United States Code, 36 U.S.C. § 301, states that during a rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present and not in uniform may render the military salute; men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart

I spent 6 years in the military, and you put your hand on your heart DURING THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIENCE and NOT DURING THE ANTHEM. If you see a military re-enlistment at a bal game (Yes, people do that all the time!) The immediate command will all go and enjoy the game. At the anthem, you will notice that they ALL STAND AT ATTENTION and NOT PUT THEIR HANDS TO THEIR HEARTS during the anthem.

This is a disgrace, I am ex-military, and am ashamed our new president didn’t salute as codes of justice clearly state you are to respect America by saluting… Lord help us all!

even though i’m 15 and really have nothing i can do about the choices of the americans that voted for Barack Obama, it seems very ignorant to run for presidenry..and still not plege aleigence to the flag? Somone that is supposed to be an american role model not only not pleage to the flag, but at the same time raise the american flag at the same level as an campaign flag. i think that americans should be looking for more than just “a change”, because change isnt always isnt what is right.

Israel wanted change..and they got it..in king Saul. The Lord God warned them through Samuel..they still resisted..and then when change came..it was too late. Germans wanted change..so Hitler became thier “savior.” Cuba wanted lots of change..Fidel gave it to them. Obama is dangerous..a true wolf in sheep’s garb. His views are anti-Biblical, anti-American, and pro socialist. e is actaully endorsed by Communist leaders worldwide..and by the Communist Party USA…see their website. So..you WANT change…in him..you will have an anti-Christ…and you’ll have your “change” alright.

I’m 72 years old and from a child growing up during World War II I was taught to always place my hand over my heart when the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegience were played and recited. I guess that here in West Virginia we live by different standards than a lot of the country. Do what you think is right and that way you will have a clear conscience…..right or wrong.

Ask your self who should dictate what Obama should know, what should he need to know if visiting other countries, what should a Olympian know? See usflag org and it will be a little clearer. By holding your hand over your heart during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner (our national anthem), it is the non-uniformed personnel salute. Not the Gomer Pyle rendition to the brim of the hat, but rather with respectfully placing your hand over your heart. I am sure there is change coming should the ignorant side of America elect this man to this country’s highest office. His grandfather taught him not to salute the National Anthem.

Yes, we’re in two possibly unwinnable wars, our economy is in freefall, our international reputation is in tatters, our current government thinks it’s OK to torture people in secret prisons and three Supreme Court justices will probably retire in the next four years… but let’s all focus on one snapshot of a man not making a gesture in front of a piece of fabric.
