Sen. Kit Bond Endorses Rudy Giuliani
ABC News’ Jacqueline Klingebiel Reports: U.S. Senator Kit Bond, R-Mo., is the newest addition to the Giuliani camp, announcing his endorsement Friday of the former New York city Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, R-N.Y.
Bond has been appointed national co-chair and the campaign’s Senate liaison.
During a news conference Friday in Washington D.C., Bond was joined by Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., who announced Thursday his endorsement of the former mayor for president.
Unlike Coleman — who is Giuliani’s long-time friend and former colleague as mayor of Minnesota — Bond admitted he and Giuliani come from very different backgrounds.
"We have some differences … Rudy’s a big city mayor from New York, I’m a small town lawyer from Missouri. We both think each other talk funny. And he’s a Yankee fan, I’m a Cardinal fan … We both had a bad year last year," Bond said.
Coleman also reaffirmed his endorsement Friday, reminisced how they first met.
"We both started out as mayors 14 years ago, and I am very proud to stand next to him today," he said.
The two men are natives of New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and were former prosecutors. They also were former Democrats.
Giuliani criticized Sen. Hillary Clinton’s, D-N.Y., policy on Iran.
"At least he stakes out a position," said Giuliani of Clinton’s chief Democratic rival Sen.. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
"I can feel comfortable telling you what Senator Obama’s position is, and I respect the man for taking a position. In Hillary’s case, I have to do it a little bit more carefully because it may not be the same position today as it was yesterday."
