Thompson’s ‘Politics and Eggs’ with a Side of Huckabee
ABC News’ Christine Byun Reports: Campaigning in Bedford, New Hampshire, Republican candidate Fred Thompson said he wants to rebuild the government’s credibility among the public by cutting government waste.
Before he left Congress in 2002, the former Tennessee senator authored a two-volume report on cutting government waste as chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee.
"I’d like to think the administration would have done a lot more things if it had not been for 9/11," Thompson said at the ‘Politics and Eggs’ forum in N.H. "But, now we got to back to a situation that’s growing even worse."
On Monday, Thompson explained that now is the time "to get back" and fix the system where there’s "financial mismanagement that’s wasting billions and billions of dollars."
He said the country is "way behind the curve on informational technology" as governmental agencies struggle to get "computers to talk to each other."
He also highlighted his recent immigration plan and hopes to fix the country’s Social Security problem.
After his remarks, Thompson responded to fellow Republican candidate former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s charge Thompson has "cut and run" on "cultural battles" like same-sex marriage and abortion. Thompson defended his record as "100% pro-life" and said he has a constitutional amendment on gay marriage, which would allow states to decide for themselves, that’s "workable" and "passable."
"[Former] Governor Huckabee talks about this, I suppose, because it’s the only conservative position he’s got. He’s talking about sanctuary cities, he apparently wants a sanctuary state in Arkansas. He’s very weak on immigration policy," Thompson said, in a post-event interview with Fox News.
Ever the sports fan, Thompson also mentioned he had his "priorities in order," scheduling his flight into New Hampshire late last night so he could watch Sunday night’s football matchup of the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.
"To make a long story short, I saw the game and got here at 11 o’clock," Thompson said.

Obama Backs Off Birth Control Battle?
How about “how” to cut spending? It’s a lot of nothing since the executive office has little control over spending besides offering a budget and potentially vetoing what comes back.
Improving inter-office commincations is not serious presidential topic. This is skit fodder.
Huckabee might have a confusing (contradicting) position on immigration, but more of the same is not a valid position either. Just because the other guy is wrong doesn’t make you right.
What would any of the do on issues involving marriage or abortion? Best the executive office could do is executive order it out of the federal govt’s hands and nobody is running on that.
A “real” conservative? I would give him that if he would just stick with the same positions he voiced before he decided to run. Looks to me more like a “real” politician right now.

Thompson if flat out lying about Huckabee’s record. I guess the Hollywood writer’s strike has left Thompson with nothing to say.
Thompson is too lazy to be President of the United States. He sees Huckabbe is the best man in the race and has resorted to lies to build himself up.

Fred Thompson is, frankly, just too lazy to be president. His deadpana demeanor and flat affect are, quit honestly, laughable.
