Giuliani Says New Ad Uses 9/11 Imagery Proportionally
ABC News’ Jan Simmonds reports: In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, this morning Rudy Giuliani, R-N.Y., was asked by a reporter whether he thought that using 9/11 imagery in his new television ad could turn off voters.
"Well, it only uses them (images from 9/11), I think, in a proportionate way," Giuliani said. "And other candidates have done it. I believe Hillary Clinton has. President Bush did in the last campaign. I think that, I believe that some other candidates have also done it."
This morning, the Giuliani Campaign released its first national television ad entitled "Freedom."
The ad compares, both in its words and visually, World War II’s so-called "Greatest Generation" with the heroes who risked their lives during the attacks of September 11, 2001.
"It is part of my life. It is part of my life that helps to define me," he added. "It isn’t the only part of my life. But it would seem to me that maybe the critics want you to, like, remove a part of your life in which people have every right to draw judgments about how you would handle a crisis, how you would handle a difficult situation, how you would handle terrorism."
Giuliani went on to note that he has also run several other ads about fiscal conservatism and his record before 9/11 as Mayor of New York City.
"I think, if you look at all the ads we’ve run, this is very proportionate emphasis on something that was an important part of my life but by no means my whole life," said Giuliani.
The ad was released to the press before the explosion in Pakistan today that took the life of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Yeah, well pandered Rudy. Maybe next one you could wrap the flag a little tighter around yourself.

I was in the room whem Mr. Giuliani made that statement in reply to the usual media “cheap shots.” Mr. Giuliani served a hundred Vietnams after 9/11 with respect to what happened to and after the towers collapsed. Can any of the other canidates say that they witnessed first hand the carnage and devistation that Rudy Giuliani had too? Still keeping his emotions and leadership abilities intact other than John McCain? After hearing Mr Gs reply one one battle hardened Marine looked at me and said “now theres a leader.”
Did any of other Presidential hopefulls
take any time to meet with the Veterans?
Rudy Giuliani has my vote. JT

I wouldn’t go as far as equating Giuliani’s service to that of our Viet Nam veterans, but your other points are correct. Rudy was calm and extremely effective under the pressure of the most nightmarish scenario imaginable. Unfortunately, the vast majority of our leaders would have been about as good as Ray Nagin during such a crisis.

Gawd, Rudy LOVES to relive 9-11 almost as much as Bush!

Relive it? No. Acknowledging that it actually happened and that terrorism is a real-life issue for our country? Yes.

To ZUZU — maybe if we have someone in power who lived through it once and is acutely aware of how important it is to protect us against the prospect of it happening again.. then none of us will ever have to “relive 9-11″ again. Some how, i am more comfortable ( much more) with someone who relives 9/11 in making their decisions than i am with anyone from a party that considered terrorism a “bumper-sticker issue”.

JT: Ron Paul met with veterans. Im a Marine, and he is the only one who speaks truth and doesnt garnish his message for more followers.
and i believe he is the only hope for us as a nation.

Rudy doesn’t have to hide from 9/11 or
apologise for referring to his actions
during and after 9/11, it’s called
Leadership! An important quality in a
presidential candidate!
By the way where were Senators Hillary
Clinton and Chuck Schumer in the days and weeks after the attack?

Rudy “Pull it!” Guiianni not only lived 911 – he helped orchestrate it.

So why did hundreds of fire fighters die and not policemen….because their radios worked. Rudy gave the company a no-bid contract to replace radios that did not work with new radios that did not work. He also would not follow the advice of others and placed the command center in the same location which has been previously attacked by terrorist.
Have you seen the pictures of him in drag kissing Donald Trump. Like he always say, “the reality is” the guy has no moral standards.

givemeabreak,coloradorocket123, You are BOTH right, it was the best thing to happen to their administrations. They made Americans feel “UNSAFE”, now, everyone is too scared to get on a plane with “sippy cups”, so scared we spent $2.4 trillion protecting us from a repeat, so TERRIFIED we are poised to invade Iran. The administration is completing the terrorist agenda by “breaking the Bank’, and by scaring the American public into sissy crybabies. NOW, think about this, Hitler did the equivalent to 9-11 to Britian every DAY for more than a year! And the Brits pulled themselves up, and defeated the enemy. Meanwhile, we can’t even LOCATE to owner of 9-11…Osama Bin Laden!

Such “leadership” that never provided the proper equipment so the varios departments in NYC could communicate with each other? The type of equipment that could have saved lives? Is this the leadership you people speak of? You might want to see what the people of NYC have to say about Rudy’s “leadership”. I think you’ll find the majority don’t look at him very favorably.

Giuliani is telling fibs again. Military service was never part of his life. 24/7 personal security for him and his mistress was part of his life! Nominating the indicted Bernie Keric to head homeland security was, is? part of his life.

Rudy means more years of fear mongering and I’ve had about enough of that. I also think he made a couple of mistakes with 9-11 that people gloss over. He messed up in where the office was located (the towers – AFTER everybody told him not to), the radio issue AND the minipulation of that local EPA on the air quality will hurt many. I will admit he exhibited some good qualities in dealing with the aftermath. However I’d rather vote somebody in that will hopefully head off such things vs. boast about how well they’ll do when thousands more do get slain.
