Hillary, Chelsea and Dorothy Make an Iowa Diner Stop

ABC News’ David Wright and Eloise Harper report: Sen. Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton and Dorothy Rodham walked into Palmer’s Deli and Market in Des Moines, Iowa, and created quite the stir this morning. While the flat screens above were featuring TV anchors discussing the Oprah effect — the Clinton family was quietly creating its own media frenzy.

Sen. Clinton was asked if she was worried about the big crowds Obama is going to draw today with Oprah Winfrey. Clinton shrugged it off.

"I am having a good time; I’m just not sure if I’m going to eat all of this in front of you," she said. "That’s the only thing I’m concerned about right now."

Clinton had ordered the Good Ol’ Iowa — which included an omelet, rye toast, hash browns and tea. Chelsea had an egg white omelet with lots of well-done hash browns. Chelsea was concerned that her grandmother hadn’t ordered and came back with the order — Mrs. Rodham selected the hotcakes.
Sen. Clinton paid the bill with cash, and Chelsea dumped the change into the tip jar.

The three women ignored the TV crew surrounding them while they ate their breakfast.

Andy McGuire, a campaign co-chair, joined the ladies and  asked  Chelsea  if she has a boyfriend.

"I have a very serious boyfriend, who my family knows and, I hope, likes," Chelsea said. "You will meet him. He will be here in December."

A little boy and girl approached Chelsea and her mother and told the duo, "Girls rule and boys drool." Chelsea laughed and said, "I am agreeing with the first half of the statement."

Chelsea and her grandmother will be joining Sen. Clinton on the trail today. Its not Chelsea’s first time to the Hawkeye State — but it is her first time on the campaign trail. She told the people at the table she will be back.

I think the US of A will be ended if Clinton is president. This women has no idea how to run a country, yet she can’t even keep her own husband from cheating on her.

If Clinton is elected, this country will not go to ruin… Quit this partisan malarkey, is it not obvious to you that Dems and Republicans are the same? I probably would rather vote for Ron Paul, because he or Kucinich are the only ones who would really change things. ‘This country needs changes for the RIGHT.’ You are ignorant, look at what the right has done to this country in only eight years. Look at what they did when Reagan was in office, due to his economic policies there was considerable recession…

Red Elephant – Where have you been these last 7 years. GW took this country down to the point that will create a gargantuan effort by the next president (Dem or Repub) to reverse what he started.

Fidony-I was wondering when they would trot Chelsea out.The first Clinton presidency turned her upside down. She doesn’t need part2& neither do we.No matter the problem I have with her parents,I have always liked her.

It’s awesome to see all of them on the campaign trail. At least Dorothy won’t say anything stupid or embarrassing like John McCain’s mother.

I love to see Hillary’s family; but don’t miss use them from media reason. Oprah will harm Barck Hussein Obama at the end, just wait and see.
American People are not so dumb to vote some one due to media person.

Boom! Hillary brings out the big guns! (solid american family values trumping hollywood flash for all you obama fans who cant read between the lines…)
Boom and down goes oprah-ism!!
you think this is something? just wait till act 2 and 3 come out just before the primaries.
this lady has the smarts and the $$ to scare the republicans as well as the republican wanna bes (obama and r. paul). they are really scared this time around and rightly so, as her well planned media is just beginning to get into gear.

Regardless of personal opinions, I believe we all can agree that what Bill did in his personal life, has no reflection on the way Hillary can and will run our country. Unless we are ALL pure snow white and blameless (pun intended RED Elephant-) than I don’t think we should remark on one’s personal sexual life.
Additionally; I think we all can agree that our country and world environment is in real trouble under this current administration. I would be delighted to see Hilliary in office she speaks clearly with conviction. Obama would also make me happy although I think he may need a few more years in the arena to build his back bone. Perhaps our next president after Mrs. Clinton.
Bottom line RED & all you others who make backhanded insults: Go educated your self on all aspects of a candidate before expressing your views for all the world to read. Even if you don’t change your mind about a certain candidate, you can at least walk away with more information than you started with. Good Luck to you!

Oprah’s true colors of racial divisiveness are shining thorough. Where has she been for the last 25 years as election after election rolls by? Then a black joins the ranks and she’s suddenly all over it. And please spare us the chatter about how she believes in Obama’s platform, etc, etc. etc. She out there because he’s black and this sends the wrong message, particulary as she encourages “color blindness” to her viewers day after day. She’s not blind to color and that is perhaps the biggest sham of all. But then again, many of us have always known that Oprah, like Obama, is a fraud.

Posted by: Derrick | December 8, 2007, 3:14 pm 3:14 pm

Don’t think Oprah will help Obama. After all she could not pick someone to run her school so why do we think she could pick someone to run our country. Good luck Hillary

No doubts about it!! Sen Hilary Rodham Clinton is going to be our next President. She is so clean by her heart and has confidence in her statements she made. She is very intelligent and smart lady and She is sure to be first lady president of USA.

Enough is enough, Hilary Clinton is the best one for our country. Obama could wait and try in 8 years. What’s his hurry. He is still young and can do alot more perhaps in the senate. He scares me. He is like Bush, too fast on the draw but misses the bulls eye. What is it with some of you out there? Why pick on Hilary all the time. She will be awesome as a president. Regardless of what Bill did he never lost his family and continued to do right for our country, remember no one person can be perfect, president or otherwise. You go Hilary!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Jane garcia | December 8, 2007, 3:51 pm 3:51 pm

Go Hilary
I strongly belive in Hilary, and Bill. Bill made a few mistakes but his IQ equals both Bushes together. The mess that these Bushes made of this country will take many years to make right. Panama and Iraq. There should be come court action against these people. Remember that we diddn’t have these terroist before Bush. Now there seems to be every where.
And this Homeland thing of Billons of dollars, is a farce. and this must stop. Do us proud Hilary, and may the force be with you.

Hillary go after them. Just be yourself explain your side. Tell it the way it is, if they don’t like what they here to bad. Tell the real story. America has heard enough lies to last a very long time. Remember the needs out way th needs of the few or even the one. Hilary you have my vote. Chicago will not let you down.

Pretty sorry sight to have Chelsea on the trail…
Clinton’s always wanted to “protect” her… now she will be the focus of a lot of venom…
It’s truly a sign of desperation on the trail…
And they get one short media cycle from it… whereas Oprah will get a whole weekend of media attention…

I like seeing Hillary and her mom and daughter

Posted by: lori | December 8, 2007, 5:38 pm 5:38 pm

It is much wiser to have your own mom and daughter than Oprah. Who doesn’t love our daughter and who doesn’t love our mom?
Oprah and Obama together give a very negative image for Obama campaign: both are talkers. Only thing Oprah is famous for is talking. That is exactly what Obama does, talking. He missed over 80% votes in US Senate and has been the most ever “present” Senator in Illinois Senate (meaning he does not vote “yes” nor “no” but say “ I am present but not vote”). Now the Talk Queen endorses and stands together with the Talk King, emphasizing what they are in common—doing noting but talking. What a dumb strategy! this will hurt ABC’s rating.

Go Hilary. More brains than all the men running put together!!

Posted by: Paul Lucero | December 8, 2007, 6:11 pm 6:11 pm

To use the pathetic argument that Hillary is scandalously “trotting” Chelsea out (a horse term, by the way)when she “always wanted to ‘protect’” her in the past is simply idiotic. This might be too complicated for some bloggers to understand, but Chelsea was A CHILD and had no choice when her parents were in the White House. She is now an ADULT and free to choose a public role and suffer the consequences. Honestly, “Grow up, people!”

Posted by: Steve in St.Pete | December 8, 2007, 6:26 pm 6:26 pm

Lets see,
Jacqueline Kennedy couldn’t keep her husband from cheating, and that didn’t seem to affect his running the country, nor was it held against him.
Of course they are going to bring Chelsea out on the campaign trail. #1, they are proud of their Standford educated daughter, number 2# no doubt Chelsea wants to support her mom, #3, every politician in American history has involved their family in this process. I don’t understand the surprise

The worst thing about an American President doing something that he has to hide from his wife and the public is the possibility of being coersed or blackmailed, threatened or persuaded in ways that are not in the publics best interest. How many of you democrats who supported Bill Clinton arent smart enough to realise this? Wouldnt someone who is having illicit sex with the president have more influence over him than you and me? Did we vote for this type of secret influence? And what if foreign spies got ahold of this information? could that country not use it against him? I wonder if it were George Bush who had done it, if you would be telling us all that it is none of our business. No, i dont wonder, i know how you are.

Hillary is losing ground for a reason. You all are so wrapped up in Hillary…you all know good and well that if she was just Hillary Rodham then she could never have gotten to this level. She shows up with her daughter and mother and Bill like they are one happy Famliy…Why didnt she lose the name “Clinton” after she got rid of Bill?…she is just using the man…she could not satisfy her husband so he looked elsewhere…you cant blame the man…he went to go get what Hillary wouldnt give him. Its all a matter of her character…and that also plays into the way she will run the country. Countless times has she flip floped on issues and now she wants to make health care as imposing as car insurance…Hmmm..I wonder which lobbyist have her that idea to make thier pockets fatter… she is ludacris…she is never clear on her topics….all she does is avoid questions and say witty phrases istead. Her campaign is one of empty witty phrases that dont give her a clear stance on ANY topic…and with all her experience she voted for the Iraq war…who knows what else her experience will vote for as a president. Where is she in the community? I dont see her building houses or getting her hands dirty. But yet she can walk around communities and eat in thier diners…LOL!!….she is a lobbyist supporter with a resume of obvious experience of bad judgement. You all need a wake up all. You are part of the problem and part of the reason America will stay on this “same old politics” path. She Does not representa change she represents the politics of an old clinton era in a NEW AMERICA….what we need is A CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!!!
BARACK OBAMA ’08′!!! READY TO GO!!!

This is another example of the Clintons speaking out of both sides of their mouths! Now in order to help her mothers

Barack Hussain Obama, what can I say about a man who does not live up to his own name? I for one would never vote for someone like him a man who denies his own faith is a man not to be trusted. I call upon all Iowans to think before they vote as the future of America lies in your hand. One should not put their personal interest before their country. Obama is not the person he pretends to be, he might be a good talker but not experienced, has no vision to make the right decision which seems to be the most important quality of commander in chief. He can not even get enough votes so he has to depend on Oprah , who might be a good entertainer but should not be involved in decisions for the country, (as she was unable of take care of a small school )how can she decides who is the right person to became the leader of the biggest nation of the world. Obama has been mudslinging against Hillary all this time but as soon as the table was turned people started to judge Hillary, therefore Iowans shouldn’t make this mistake and think ever

How GREAT it was to see three generations campaigning together…I truly hope this time around we the people will elect someone into office with enough “SMARTS” to run our great country, unlike a person of average intelligence such as President Bush. I truly feel the time has come for the ‘FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT’of the USA. Hilary Rodham Clinton is a woman who not only possesses a genius level of intelligence, but she has also demonstrated remarkable judgement in times of adversity…she is exactly what our country needs during a time when it is facing more ADVERSITY from other countries in the WORLD than it ever has before…I am 56 years old and I think she will address and deal with the interests of all three generations, both genders and all economical classes equally.

…and stop being jealous about Oprahs endorsment…stop saying its racist……this woman gives cars and refrigerators away to her diverse audience…dont get angry because she endorses a canidate that is actually honest and is clear on all his intentions…it just so happens that Barack is part black…those of you who disagree are the ones creating the problems in this country…simply because you cant open your eyes to change the direction of a United America..you just want to create seperation where you can…well…news flash…divide and conquer…if you keep dividing America, someone will surely conquer us….pray it wont be Russia (lol!)…
Either your for a change….or your not..and if you open your eyes….you’ll see that Hillary Rodham is NOT a change. God bless you all…and God Bless America.

Oprah Winfrey has weathered 8 presidential elections since 1984 just as we all have. 1984 is when she became a celebrity. However she has not endorsed a single candidate for presidency. She has even ignored politics by her own admission. Now we have the first female presidential candidate in Hillary Clinton and even she has been tossed aside by Oprah in favor of the first black presidential candidate.

Oprah’s speech about experience not being important is the dumbest, she is contrdicting herself which means her own experience of 20 plus has no bearing.America is the only nation in the whorld that can be influenced by the like of Oprah(I used to watch her show but haven’t for over few years as I find her very arrogant and acts like God Almighty)

I personally am sick of politicians, both the Clinton and the Obama candidates are your typical politicians. They will say or do whatever they think will capture the public’s interest. We are a nation who sits glued in front of the television, watching “reality” tv, and is obsessed with the personal lives of our celebrities. Americans talk about change, talk about the “best” candidate, yet they seem stuck on the issue of having a female or a black man in office. Who cares? I think both candidates are very intelligent, perhaps more than we give them credit for. Due to that very fact, and looking at both their pasts, I say I don’t trust either of them, I think they have their own agendas, and whatever those may be will remain to be seen. Regardless of who gains the office, and how great or horrible a job they do, they will have supporters, simply because of their sex or race, and will have those who nitpick at every little thing they do, for the same reasons. We as an American people need to speak up, and take charge. We elect the senate, the House of Representatives, and the President. Don’t blame the administration for the problems in this country, who put them there? They are human, we have to expect mistakes. But we are Americans, we have to stand together to fix the problems, not waste our time trying to find a scapegoat, who cares whose fault it is, let the past be the past, we need to look to the future, and work TOGETHER for the betterment of this country and its’ people.

Posted by: Tara | December 9, 2007, 1:55 pm 1:55 pm

Bill will be president again, not Hillary. Why did she make a comment that Bill may be in her cabinet? She could not run her own family and we are going to trust her to run the country? I think not. Wake up Americans. The novelty of having a woman president will wear off quickly. With the problems we have now, we need a strong president, not four more years of a clinton farce.

Oprah has not helped Obama in any way other than drawing a crowd. He still doesn’t have the real experience that he needs. And, for all of you who keep refering to her as a millionaire – she is a BILLIONAIRE AND HAS DONE VERY LITTLE FOR ANYBODY BUT HERSELF IF YOU BASE IT ON HER NET WORTH. VERY LITTLE! She’s also full of herself and thinks that she’s smarter than the average bear and she can convince you to vote for Obama because of her hidden agenda for wanting him in the White House.

It wasnt so bad when she had the time to cover up his lack of self control and devotion. If she were elected president, bill could be a terrible detriment to an already flawed character in Hillary.

For those of you who think Hillary will represent a change from politics as usual, read this story in today’s Los Angeles Times. “Clinton Rolls a Sizable Pork Barrel.” Quote: Since taking office in 2001, Clinton has delivered $500 million worth of earmarks that have specifically benefited 59 corporations. About 64% of those corporations provided funds to her campaign….All told, Clinton has earmarked $2.3 billion for federal appropriations for projects in her state since her election to the Senate….Clinton is not the biggest earmarker in the Senate, but she does significantly more earmarking than others with her relatively low level of senority…Her record stands in contrast to others in the Senate seeking the presidency, particularly McCain and Obama,…McCain who has long opposed earmarks does not write them, Obama has used the device, but now declines to earmark funds for private companies, he uses earmarks only to secure federal funding for projects such as road building and hospital projects…Since her arrival in the Senate, she has collected more than $1 million from earmark beneficiaries and associates…This pattern shows that Clinton has made aggressive use of the ‘pay to play’ earmark game. Democrats made earmark reform a priority when they took over in January….Clinton supported those basic reforms, but balked at a proposal by Obama to require members to disclose their proposed earmark requests, not just those that were enacted into law…Clinton has been able to earmark $1.4 billion for defense contractors in New York since her arrival…Clinton has received more than $270,000 for her campaign from those defense contractors…” If you don’t think this isn’t politics as usual, but on a grand scale in such a short time, your left brain isn’t working. This just adds to the list of reasons to NOT vote for Hillary. Her actions sustain ideals she learned from Saul Alinsky, her Marxist protege from college about whom she wrote her college thesis. Folks, wake up and smell the coffee, Obama is the only one that has the intelligence, integrity and stamina to beat down politics as usual and return good governance to the control of the American people.

Hillary`s latest silliness is that we shouldn`t vote for Obama because someone we like and respect, Oprah, asks us to consider him. But we should vote for her because, unlike Giuliani, her family suppors her? I fail to see her point. I do know that no one has the “experience” to exercise the full resonsibilities of the office of president from day one, including her. Bush has clearly proven that! Maybe, maybe, Bill Clinton does.

I find it amusing that most comments here are about how corrupt politics and politicians are! If you don’t like politics and politicians, there is a very simple solution — don’t have a political leader and don’t participate in any political process. Failing that, let me see all Americans become honest as saints — never doing anything wrong, never doing anything secretly, and never blaming others for their own mistakes. When the whole of the US becomes that honest, they will get leaders who are also honest. As long as 999.99% of the country thinks it is OK to do anything to win, they will get leaders who think it is OK to do anything to win.

Bringing the daughter out of the closet sure isn’t anywhere equal to Oprah Winfrey – or worth all the headlines ABC is trying to give her..

Some people are honest anpadh. Is it too much to hope for that one of the most honest among us would be elevated to the highest office in the land? Is it your point that the presidents sense of honesty, and dignity match the lowest common denomiantor? That is what you would get with Hillary Clinton. A politician with the lowest common denomiator ethics.
