It was a joke!

On MSNBC’s "Morning Joe" this morning, senior Clinton campaign strategist Mark Penn made a preposterous claim.

Penn insisted that when his campaign tried to depict Barack Obama as a hypocrite — for saying he hadn’t planned for decades to run for president, unlike Hillary Clinton — by quoting various stories in which he was described as holding such ambitions as early kindergarten, they were just joking.

"Why bring up his kindergarten teacher?" asked host Joe Scarborough (watch HERE).

"Oh, that is so silly." said Penn. "He put out an attack on her, trying to say that she had some 20 year plan, and at the end of a long thing as a joke, the campaign put out that he always wanted to run from kindergarten. It was a joke. And then the spin machines here are so hyped up here about Senator Clinton and her campaign, that — that someone would pick up on a joke like that and treat it as though it were serious."

Penn called it a "joke at the end of a very long and serious release. Gosh, you guys are so spinnable."

Read it for yourself HERE and judge for yourself.

Personally, I agree that that attack was a joke.

But not in the way Penn means it.
