Kissinger: McCain Best For ‘Difficult and Complicated’ Times
EmailABC News’s Bret Hovell reports: Henry Kissinger reiterated his support for Sen. John McCain’s candidacy for president Wednesday, saying that he was one of the early people who urged McCain to run for the White House.
"I believed then and I believe now that he’s the best candidate to serve our nation in an extremely difficult and complicated period," the former secretary of state said in Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall, where he joined McCain for a campaign event to discuss America’s future role in the world.
Kissinger, who served in the Nixon and Ford administrations, has supported McCain’s campaign throughout this election cycle, formally endorsing him in April along with three other secretaries of state — Alexander Haig, Lawrence Eagleburger and George Schultz.
"I’m doing something that I have never done before," Kissinger said of his public support for McCain’s candidacy.
During his remarks, Kissinger spoke about the recent release of the National Intelligence Estimate, which said Iran was not building warheads for nuclear weapons.
Kissinger said that the enriching of nuclear material and the building of missiles, which he argued Iran is still engaging in, were the much more concerning actions.
"The warheads are the easiest part," he said. "No country has ever failed to do that when they had the other 2 parts."

McCain, Kissinger, Lieberman, the pro-war CFR candidates, more of the same old corrupt politics.

McCain thinks its safe for American’s to travel in IRAQ, and that the general Patraus travels around without security. Has he lost his mind?

Isn’t it interesting that ALL of these various former SECRETARIES OF STATE — across a number of different administration — ALL have publicly endorsed Senator McCain! There must be something about this man’s singular judgment and background and instincts that cause them and Homeland Security head Tom Ridge all to take such a public stance. As Secy. Kissinger said, he’s NEVER publicly endorsed in a primary previously in his long life. Further, Senator McCain — polls continue to show — runs BEST vs any Democrat in the general election! — Thanks for your SERIOUS consideration. —Janet

The difference between McCain and Hillary Clinton is that the former politician knew early on that we had to go with a different strategy (which is now working) and the latter backed the war without advocating any policy other than supporting Bush.

McCain not only has a mind, but a great mind. He’s highly respected as the person best to protect America during these tough times… and getting specific… best to protect me and my children. He didn’t create Iraq and actaully was the first to ask Rumsfield to leave. Fact. His politically courageous decision to support a new direction with Petraus is just another example of independent, smart leadership. I’m waiting to hear from someone to question Petraus and his leadership.
