Obama Pushes Back on Caucus Brochure Story
ABC News’ Sunlen Miller Reports: At a campaign stop in Iowa on Sunday, Sen. Barack Obama D-Ill., read verbatim from a brochure making the rounds at Iowa colleges, in which his campaign urges college students to return to caucus for him even if they aren’t from Iowa.
"If you are spending the holidays outside of Iowa you can come back to Ames and caucus on Thursday, Janurary 3rd," Obama told a crowd of 400 Iowa State University students.
Obama has recently drawn criticism from his rivals for the strategy of urging out-of-town college students to come back and caucus where they reside during the school year.
The Clinton campaign said recently, "The Iowa caucus should be for Iowans," and Senator Dodd’s campaign added it ruins the sprit of the Iowa caucus.
Obama responded in front of 400 college students telling them to stand strong, "One of the things we’ve been hearing lately is well maybe young people shouldn’t caucus if they just recently moved here because they are going to school here. Don’t let people tell you that you can’t participate. You are an Iowa student, you can be an Iowa caucus goer, and I want you to prove them wrong when they say you’re not gonna show up."
Obama concluded by telling students that their vote is one of the things his campaign is "banking on in this election."

I don’t see why they cannot caucus –
both my daughter’s had to get absentee ballots to vote in elections while away at school, why not allow students to vote where they are living while in colleges?? Most kids who really get involved in politics do so at their colleges, form opinions have long great arguments — why should those students who wish to caucus not be allowed to do so?? I think it’s a great learning experience and and forget the criticism from the political machines — this is the U.S. and not Venezula — the students who go to Iowa for 4 years have every right to caucus and vote where they have established their residence — as do other students across the country.
