Biden Drops Out of Race
ABC News’ Brian Wheeler Reports: Senator Joe Biden will abandon his bid for the White House, according to campaign aides.
Biden, D-Dela., joins his Senate colleague Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn., in leaving the race after a poor showing in the Iowa caucuses.
In his speech to supporters before departing Iowa in the middle of the night, Biden told the crowd, "I don’t want anybody walking out of here dejected. I want you walking out of here proud of what we fought for and determined to continue to push the Democratic party in a direction of significant responsibility."
Biden warned the eventual nominee he would be watching from his post in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee: "I want to make it clear to whoever is the nominee, I’m going to insist, as a United States Senator, that they can keep the commitment to our men and women who are still in harms way."
Biden’s presidential aspirations were hampered by fundraising troubles and barely-there polls numbers. Despite his long Senate career, legislative accomplishments, and reputation as the preeminent voice in his party on foreign policy, Biden’s campaign was never quite able to register with voters.
He often said on the stump that his staff was upset with him because "he spent more time thinking about what he’d do as president, than how to get elected president."
The Senator was upbeat and inspired in his closing remarks, saying, "There’s no reason not to be happy. The promise of this nation is immense.
"My family, thank God, is healthy. You all are wonderful, decent people. You’re the reason why this country is what it is."
The departures of two senators from the race leaves six contenders for the Democratic nomination heading into the New Hampshire primaries next week.

Are you high? He’s not a nut case at all. Biden is a good senator and very respected Democrat.

I would have voted for Biden being an independent. But, I’m not suprised he followed the democratic norm which is to throw in the towel when things get rough and bow down to lesser candidates, and you can’t handle the pressure. Clinton is next! I take that back, she’ll stay in the race until the end if not only to make sure she spends all of her questionable campaign funds.

Biden was an awesome and respectable candidate and is a great senator and a great man.
If anyone can make derogatory statements about the most honorable, caring and wise candidate with the most integrity in the whole field, then your voice is one of pure evil and dysfunctionality.
And Biden has gone through so much more than most Americans ever go through so being dumb enough to say something so ignorant that he cant handle pressure makes you as useless as a bag of hammers.
The man overcame a stuttering problem as a child, first in his family to go to college, youngest man elected to Senate, lost his first wife and baby girl to a car accident and stuck with his 2 boys in the hospital never leaving their bedside. He was even sworn in at their bedside, he has never used his power and position to enrich himself and takes the train back and forth to work in DC. He had 2 anyeurisms 20 yrs ago and almost passed away twice. This man has done more and gone through more than any whining ignorant critic will ever go through and hes better for it.
Good Luck Joe, wish you could have succeeded.

I am a Richardson supporter. Joe Biden probably gave Bill Richardson more than his fair share of attacks but that is the game of politics. When Bill Richardson talks about Joe Biden in the press and media, its with respect, admiration and friendship. The Richardson camp has been gracious and polite almost to fault.
Joe Biden is good and very capable man and far more deserving than Clinton, Edwards and Obama to be the Democratic Party front runner.
If Democrats want to win, they must win the Western states like, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, and Texas (South Texas).
The best West meets East team – Richardson CEO and Biden President of the Senate. Such a Richardson/Biden ticket not likely to happen and not likely for the Democrats to win in Fall 2008 with Obama or Edwards leading the ticket.

I can’t believe that 2 candidates dropped out after 1 contest that represents 3% of the electoral votes! They should of stayed in until Feb 5th.
I wanted to point out that yes there are 6 surviving Democratic candidates, but ABC will only be inviting 4 of them to the debate.
Thanks for the censorship ABC.

The people of this great country will get what they deserve as times get rougher .Not to vote for a statesman like Joe Biden is unbeliveble and for the press to not give equal time says it all.Iowa means nothing and nothing is what you are going to get.

I have to say that when Joe Biden left the Presidential race the best candidate for the Presidency is gone. He not only has the most experience in Foreign Affairs but is also the most Presidential of any candidate, Republican or Democrat who strives to the highest office in the land. It would be nice if the people of California could have the access the people in the Midwest have.

I’m sorry to that Joe didn’t make it. I caucused for him but it takes a lot of money to go on.Money from other corners of the U.S. might have helped. I wish the media had given him a chance but no, they had to concentrate on the top 3.

Kucinich has the determination to stay in! Even though he doesn’t have the amount of funding that Clinton the other big two have, Kucinich will fight the fight!
The media is disgraceful. You at ABC need to give equal time to all candidates, not just the ones that the big whigs are giving money to.
