ABC News’ Theresa Cook and Dee Carden Report:  Before returning to Washington from his ranch in Texas, President Bush delivered a New Year’s message wishing Americans health and happiness in 2008 from the tarmac at the Texas State Technical College Waco Airport.

With his wife at his side, Bush said, "Laura and I wish our fellow Americans a happy and healthy 2008. I particularly want to say something to our troops and their families:  this country respects you, we admire you and we wish you a great 2008 as well."

"I’ve just come off the ranch, I had a good rest and a good New Year’s with some friends and I’m looking forward to getting back to Washington to work on policies to keep this country safe and to keep this country prosperous.  But I just wanted to stop by and wish everybody a happy 2008."

Though the press gathered on the tarmac for the statement shouted questions about recent events in Pakistan, the president and first lady continued on to Air Force One without answering.

Bush arrived at his ranch in Crawford, Texas Dec. 26, after spending the Christmas holiday at Camp David in Maryland.
