Clinton Fights Back Against Spanish Radio Ad

ABC News’ Kate Snow and Eloise Harper Report: Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign is fighting back against an ad that is all over the airwaves on Spanish radio in Nevada.

The ad, in Spanish, says in part: "Hillary Clinton does not respect our people. Hillary Clinton supporters went to court to prevent working people to vote this Saturday – that is an embarrassment."

It calls Senator Clinton "shameless" and says the fact that her allies were fighting to stop voters from being able to participate in caucus sites at casinos on the Las Vegas strip was "unforgiveable".

"Senator Obama is defending our right to vote. Senator Obama wants our votes. He respects our votes, our community, and our people," the ad concludes. "Senator Obama’s campaign slogan is "Sí Se Puede, Sí se puede." ("Yes We Can"). Vote for a president that respects us, and that respects our right to vote."

The ad is paid for by a pro-Obama labor group which represents 450,000 members across North America called UNITE HERE. The organization represents a largely immigrant workforce.

The radio advertisement is in heavy rotation on Spanish language radio, including on "Super Estrella" and "Tri-color" in Las Vegas, where an ad traffic manager says it is running twice an hour. A sister station in Reno, KSRN, is also running the spot.

"Every single sentence is a personal attack on Hillary Clinton," said Maria Echaveste of the Clinton campaign, speaking to reporters on a conference call this afternoon.

Echaveste called the ads "misleading" and "outrageous". "Particularly by saying in Spanish that Hillary Clinton does not respect Latinos. And that is just so far from the truth that it makes my mouth drop," she said.

"This kind of a personal attack, a misstatement of the record, is distracting," Echaveste said.

Dolores Huerta, a Clinton supporter who helped organize Hispanic farm workers alongside Cesar Chavez, said the ad was "a really desperate attack" on the part of Obama supporters.

Huerta said she’s been organizing Latinos for fifty years and has never met Senator Obama in person.

"Barack Obama has never had a relationship with the Latino community," she said.

"In all of my works, I’ve been in Chicago and throughout the country, I’ve never met Senator Obama," Huerta said. "People don’t know who he is. In fact they say ‘Como se llama?’ ‘What’s his name?’"

Huerta said it was "pathetic and sad and unfortunate that they have to stoop so low."

If you think Obama is your future you are way off…Obama has no history just with a small group in Chicago and his some may call racist church Obama’s Church: Cauldron of Division.
Obama has no real politics just knows how to play politics with people and let them hear what they want to hear and feel good not about real issues.Wake up from the fluff and hype and get real with the issues … that is what is important

So it took the unions to give Obama some backbone. . . finally! I love the irony of Clinton complaining about the ad, she’s finally getting what she deserves.

FINALLY-The truth of Obama and his above the mud slickness. The man is dirtier than the average politician. Get serious, if you think the country is in trouble now, Obama will show you what a depression looks like. Best of luck to all you conned Obama backers.

Wow. All of a sudden Obama is the Hispanic Savior! And how did he get there? By telling lies about someone who has ALWAYS supported the Hispanic population. What has he EVER done to help Hispanic people in this country? Nothing.
His campaign should be ashamed.

In fact Obama has held a longer political career then Clinton, he has been in office longer. She has done what?? 1/2 a term in higher politics, what before that? A few charity gigs and the wife of a presidant. Maybe you American’s should actually investigate your candidates or don’t vote at all. Im from Australia and i know about every candidate you have running and their history. So stop being lazy, get off fox new or NBC or whatever it is that feeds you media fueled crap just for good headlines and do some non-objective research. Otherwise you don’t deserve to vote.

neither one of them cares about “latinos” if they did care about the “latinos” which comprise a large amount of the service sector out there they would be opposed to one of the biggest hurdles they face economically. TIPS! these people get taxed on the tips they receive for doing a good job! that in most cases is cash from their pockets. why is big brother intitled to their hard earned tips?

The Clintons have an exceelent race record. Obama is not even close. He talks the talk about lies and personal attack but does not walk the walk. The rapidly worsening ecnomy is favorable to Hilary and move the tide in her favor to clinch the nomination, while it will help Romney to clinch the republican nomination.Unfortunately the economy may help Romney to win the presidential election against democrats, though I would want to puke at someone who will contue to follow most of GWB’s policies. Hillary for 2008. The recession will sink Obama. Hillary is the strongest and best positioned Democrat to deliver on the economy and I will favor her over Romney because of the other issues which will tie me to the democratic agenda.

It is nice to see people defending the Clintons attempts to disenfranchise Latinos. Especially Dolores Huerta. Her comments are petty and she comes accross as irrelevant. I’ve just lost a lot of respect for her.
If you continue to perpetuate the myth that the Clintons are friends of minorities, minorities in this country are never going to advance. First, the Clinton immigration policy was an abomination and a violation of human rights. Second, they’ve passed no legislation with a significant benefit for Latinos.
Finally, be pragmatic – only Obama has the political capital necessary to bring about the change that will benefit EVERY PERSON OF EVERY RACE, CREED, OR GENDER!
This Latina sees through their hype and lies.

Obama is one of the nastiest pieces of work I have ever seen. And I’ve been watching politics a long time.
Uniter? He divides more and more every day with his lies. He has never done one thing for the Hispanic community. Hillary has respected and worked with the Latino leaders for years.
Look at all the Latino leaders endorse Hillary, as opposed to that fast-talking salesman.
Does Obama think Hispanic people are stupid? He must.

. here is Bill Clinton’s WHOLE quote you just cut a snippet of to fit your agenda:
“You know, we can’t be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans to legitimately own handguns and rifles—it’s something I strongly support—we can’t be so fixated on that that we are unable to think about the reality of life that millions of Americans face on streets that are unsafe, under conditions that no other nation—no other nations—has permitted to exist. And at some point, I still hope that the leadership of the National Rifle Association will go back to doing what it did when I was a boy and which made me want to be a lifetime member because they put out valuable information about hunting and marksmanship and safe use of guns. But just to know of the conditions we face today in a lot of our cities and other places in this country and the enormous threat to public safety is amazing.”
My goodness, at least provide the quote in context… he’s talking about guns control not fascism! If this is a gun control debate fine, let’s debate it, but don’t pull those cheap tricks for cut sentences to fit your agenda.

Enough already! What is everyone’s problem? The way all of Clinton’s and Obama’s supporters are acting, we’re heading for another 4 years by a lunatic who could care less about the Latinos in this country…why can’t we all talk about the differences in Obama’s and Clinton’s policies? Why are you allowing yourselves to be used by the right wing reactionaries that are running this country into the ground? Finally, as far as Obama’s church…please give me a break! All this garbage about his radical minister make me sick. Let’s talk about Southern Baptist churches in the south. Let’s talk about evangelical churches all over this country who preach hate against anyone and everyone who doesn’t believe what they believe. Let’s live religion out of this discussion! GROW UP.

And to all you who say Hillary has done nothing and cares little for laborers, minorities, children, etc!:
*Championed the Legal Immigrant Children’s Health Improvement Act (provides states the option to provide federally funded Medicaid and SCHIP benefits to low-income legal immigrant children and pregnant women)
*Wrote the Access to Employment and English Acquisition Act to meet the growing demand for English language courses and other job skills.
*Strongly supports the DREAM Act, which provides a path to citizenship through military service or higher education for children who were brought to the U.S. by their parents.
*Offered an amendment to make family reunification the guiding principle of our immigration system.
*Original co-sponsor of the Employee Free Choice Act
*Co-sponsodered legislation to increase enforcement of Davis Bacon Act
*Introduced legislation to raise min wage to $9.50
*Has supported the Culinary Union in contract negotiations with hotel properties and “walked a day in the shoes” of an SEIU nurse
*Join Senator Reid to support Teach for American which brought nearly 200 great recent college grads to teach in Las Vegas Valley since 2004

So for him to suddenly start saying he is with the Latino community or representing the latinos is a BIG LIE. Latinos in Nevada or elsewhere should not be listening to him. Where is his record? Enough of manipulation from that fake campaign that want to portrait his candidate as the one who knows everything and the one whos records is best in everything. I don’t buy it. I am not stupid.

“Bill and Hillary have a record of real life accomplishments that have helped hispanics for years.”
Empty words and accomplishments is all I see and now they don’t even want Latinos to vote.
Barack Obama by the way, was a community organizer in Chicago and has walked the picket with Latinos many times. Furthermore, the Latinos in Chicago voted for him so he’s obviously doing something write.
You’re being willfully ignorant if you say Obama’s done nothing for Latinos. I’m so sick of this. Read and think for yourselves.

This is disturbing. He is sinking this country and dividing our party faster than you can say Sí Se Puede. I guess his Si Se Puede means yes we can destroy this country and his Hope is I hope we can draw racial lines and divide the nation. And change? Yes, it will be the first time a person is trying to win the White House on Affirmative Action.
Obama is the nastiest piece of work I’ve seen in my 26 years. First he calls the Clinton family racists now he says they don’t support the Latinos. Is he on drugs? Nevermind.

Clinton is a disgrace to American politics, She sided with republicans in the Congress to pass legislations to build a wall and then she goes on TV to deny it. Well, we have your voting record to prove it, Mrs. Clinton. It’s old news that Clinton does not respect my people, she only respects power. Latinos, don’t vote for this woman.

Posted by: Jose | January 17, 2008, 10:38 pm 10:38 pm

Let’s see, in 2000 elected to President was a chanting Uniter, Changer and wanting to give Hope to America, and inside that suit shouting it was a dictator who put lives in harms way over lies, but because it is a Republican controlled Washington, no impeachment, yet a man who lies about an affair, like 100% of those caught in one will do and most on here would do or have done, and was not Impeached because the Senate couldn’t impeach him as the foundation wasn’t there, Congress did but congress is a joke!
And here we are 8 years later and still listening to an empty suit who lied to his voters when running for US Senate stating he would not run for President but would serve his full term in the Senate!
It is amazing how people forget that the most major reforms in modern history came by the Clinton Whitehouse 90′s and turned around a destroyed America thanks to 12 years of Republican rule! And the only thing the Republicans could do is attack personal credibility in destroying the reality of change that happened to tarnish all the good done and that took place even while they were on their witch hunt!
So keep feeding on the Republicans bait and listen even to their rhetoric of wanting Clinton to go against, when has any political party exposed their choice as who they’d prefer to go against in history? Ahhh but pie in the sky believers will always be and will be disenfrachised once again and then we will have to suffer at the hands of the Republicans once again! Even Oprah can’t fix this one if it happens, after all she doesn’t pay for the things she gives away, just makes it seem like she does……fools!

The Ad is the truth. Both the Clinton’s did not say hey stop this law suit in Nevada. They would have liked to dis-enfranchise voters that worked in the casino’s pretty much. I am glad the Judge dismissed the suit. If they had come out and said, yes it is not a good way to go about it with a little heart but it is not our place, then it would have at least worked in their favor. However, they were a part in the suit. That is not caring for latino voice. You can decide for yourself if you still don’t believe they weren’t in it to dis-enfranchise Latino voters from participating.

Hillary Clinton takes credit for the Bill Clinton Administration’s
accomplishments when touting her experience advantage over
her rival Obama.
OK, lets list the important ones that had long lasting affects:
N.A.F.T.A. and the W.T.O. – Clinton championed these
disastrous trade deals that have destroyed our middle class
and sent our good paying blue collar jobs away.
H1B Visa. – Clinton championed this program that allowed
U.S. corporations to import high skilled foreign workers to
replace American people for a fraction of the pay. Clinton
allowed in hundreds of thousands of these replacement
workers to the great benefit of a few superrich contributors.
Ballistic Missile Technology to China. – Clinton reversed the
ban the State Department had imposed on the transfer of this
dangerous technology, signing a waiver to allow just one
company to do it. The Lorel Corporation. Coincidentally that
company is run by CEO Bernard Swartz who had been the
biggest contributor to Bill Clintons reelection campaign.
I won’t mention any of the ridiculous scandals that also plagued
the last Clinton Administration. The Clintons directly led to the
Republican takeovers of the Presidency and both Houses of
Congress with their shenanigans.
Now we have Hillary Clinton who takes millions of dollars
of campaign contributions from corporate lobbyists saying she
is the candidate of change???
Are we THAT stupid!
Hillary has Terry McAuliffe running her campaign. This is
the sleazy guy who ended up with millions of dollars from the
WorldCom fiasco that left thousands of honest peoples life
savings gone.
Come on people, lets move forward. Not backward!!!
Its not HOW FAR, but HOW WELL things are done…

Obama can fight back, but not with lies and slander. He just finished using the race card, which he admitted to finally in the debate, and now he’s openly telling Latino voters overt lies? At least Hillary is simply trying to state her case and frame her campaign, but doesn’t go on air waves trying to tell people blank statements such as this guy doesn’t care about your people.

Obama is not using the race he is trying to communcate to you the only way he knows how. If you watch Hillary she use’s Blacks, Mexicans, and Women, any time she gets on TV just watch her. After the debate on tuesday she had a black man speaking for her. In New Hampsure she had a woman speaking for her. You wacth tomorrow she will have mexicans all around her she use’s anyone to get elected. Obama never brought up race never until he had to. God Bless You.

In Spanish there is a phrase for the way the Clintons and their surrogates (read: trained seals)savage their opponents …
They “throw stones and then hide their hands.”
That in itself would qualify Hillary–who professes not only innocence but victimhood in nearly all instances–and her followers as “sinverguenzas” (shameless).
There is another Spanish phrase that comes to mind here …
“The truth hurts, but it doesn’t offend.”
Except in the case of the Clintons, they pretend that it does.

I’ve read the whole ad, and here’s what I have to say about it. Obama doesn’t respect Hispanics so much as the poster suggests. Obama’s main support is from the Elites and rich; Hillary’s is from the the working class. The last time I checked, many hispanics aren’t rich, so they don’t need Obama with his elitist’s appeal. As a lady in the article said (I agree with both of the ladies who commented against Obama’s ad), they don’t even KNOW Obama.

Posted by: PeaceOnEarth | January 18, 2008, 12:18 am 12:18 am

Tomorrow will be interesting. The Clintons thought they had a free pass to use the race card shamelessly, lie about Obama’s record repeatedly (even after being called on the lies by reporters), and attempt to shut down polling places so minorities can’t vote. If this were 1992, which they wish it were, they would be getting away with it. Not this time. Conservative, Moderate, AND Liberal reporters have pulled the free pass, and are firing tough questions at the Clintons. And Obama has refused to ask a union to pull a mean, but accurate ad. He has ‘found his voice’. He will do unto Clinton what she does unto him. It’s the best way to handle a bully and a cry-baby. There is one more day before the Nevada caucus for Hillary to play the victim, play the race card, play the gender card, or play dirty. I look for her to cram all four plays into one day. Tomorrow should be a doozie.

While I do regret that Obama’s SUPPORTERS (Not the campaign itself,I might ad) has stooped to the level of the CLintons, I say The Clintons shouldn’t dish out BS that they can’t eat. The CLintons have done more mudslinging in this campaign than anyone else, the slick tactics that she has used ar so transparent. At least Obama isn’t being sneeky about it. He is bringing it to her.
The lawsuit REALLY WAS STUPID. And the CLintons PUBLICLY backed it. If they had a problem with it, they should have said something about it. I bet my bext paycheck that if the Culinary Union had backed Clinton, her supporters never would have filed a suit in the first place. Try to argue that you Clintonian supporters!!!

Here we go again. I’m beginning to believe only about 10% of the American population have been able to retain the sense they were born with. Not once in this story does it say anything about the Obama campaign in any way of supporting, endorsing, or authorizing such an advertisement. The Lawsuit brought against the Nevada Democratic Committee over the casino at large districts by the Nevada State Education Association, who has not endorsed a candidate, yet several of the individuals from the organization, and represented in the lawsuit, are heavily involved in the Clinton Nevada campaign. The Nevada Democratic Committee sent copies of the district plans out to the campaigns in March. It is now January. One would have thought if there were a problem with the districts, it would have been noticed long before. I do find fault in the fact the Clinton campaign did not find fault with the plan until the Culinary Union endorsed Obama. The rules were evidently fine until the endorsement was forth coming, then they immediately wanted to change the long agreed upon rules. Senator Obama chastised the lawyers and the group filing the lawsuit for now wanting to disenfranchise a large group of voters at the last moment, which he had every right to do. You don’t change the rules of the game once the game has started. Clinton accepted her oversight and that of her organization graciously by stating, “The courts and the state party will have to work it out.” This Commercial being a product from Unite Here, an associate of SEIU which is a partner of ACORN did this on their own, I can assure you. I have been involved in actions against the founder of these organizations, Wade Rathke, and his un-ethical maneuvering of low and middle income union/political organizations.

“Hillary Clinton has supported Latinos her entire life.”
She doesn’t support anyone but herself. Ask yourself a simple question: If she supported Latinos why did her cronies file a lawsuit to make it harder for them to vote? Come on! The fake outrage from Clinton and her supporters is plain ridiculous.

Posted by: MK, Los Angeles, California | January 18, 2008, 1:14 am 1:14 am

“the people who went to court over voting from the workplace aren’t even Senator Clinton’s supporters.”
That is total BS. The six individuals are Clinton supporters and the teacher’s union has not kept its support of Clinton secret. I do not know what you have been reading, but if Bill Clinton defends the lawsuit and Senator Clinton’s supporters filed the lawsuit that means her campaign was for the lawsuit as well. Get OVER IT. Senator Clinton tried to make it harder for union workers in the casinos (a sizeable segement of whome are Hispanic) to vote. If that is being for Hispanics, then I guess it turns on what the meaning of “for” is.

Go to the street of Chicago and ask about Obamas work. He has always been for the ordinary people, regardless of race or sex. If Hillary Clinton respects the LATINOS, she will not be so despirate to stop them form voting. Wake up people!!!

HILLARY DID ALL OF THAT ABOVE SO THE IDIOTS THAT THINK OBAMA DID IS WRONG! SHE DID THIS
*Championed the Legal Immigrant Children’s Health Improvement Act (provides states the option to provide federally funded Medicaid and SCHIP benefits to low-income legal immigrant children and pregnant women)
*Join Senator Reid to support Teach for American which brought nearly 200 great recent college grads to teach in Las Vegas Valley since 2004
etc….
HILLARY 08!

Funny, the Clinton’s can dish it out but sure can take it. Obama is beating them at their own game and its wonderful! Keep up Barack, America needs to move past the Clinton era as soon as possible!

Obama for President! The Clintons campaign got a dose of their own medicine! Bill smoked but didn’t inhale! Yea, right. They say anything but the truth! Oh yea, I didn’t have sex with that woman! If you’re sick and tired of being reminded of past indiscretions, scandals, and negative campaigns and a doom and gloom future, Obama is the best choice for a positive
future with hope and inspiration for all Americans.
It’s sad after 60 years on earth Hillary Rodam Clinton has redefined her self on the campaign trail more than anyone can count. She has gone from an experienced candidate, to a change candidate, to ready on day one candidate, to a softer image candidate, to a misty-eyed candidate, to what’s next! You will think a candidate who thought she would be the only frontrunner would know what her political slogan should be by now! Her campaign has been two-faced, slimy and negative every step of status quo politics. Talk about using the gender card, she got misty-eyed when she thought she was going to lose in NH. Using code words, such as “fairy tale, “roll of dice”, “drug dealer” is divide and conquer politics being played by the Clintons’ campaign. Why, because they are feeling threatend by the Obama’s campaign. Go Figure…The powerful Clinton machine being threatened and resort to their racial insults! And talk about using the gender card, Hillary got misty-eyed in NH when she thought she would be defeated! What message was she sending – in code? What message was she sending to the world? And by the way, those votes may be foul at most! Thank goodness we’ll have a recount in NH!
As for her Bill, she needs to reign him in for playing her personal pitt bull. He’s doing her no good on the campaign trail. Voters are seeing their real true side in politics. The side that shows hunger for more power, slimy, negative politics!
More importantly, he’s a former President. He should try to act stateman like even if he’s not! Should Hillary has an opportunity to be President, Bill and Hillary would continue to run the White House just like they play politics: Dirty, Slimy and Vindictive!
Mr. Obama has shown steady class, and run a positive campaign in comparison. He’s the clear choice for a well-run White House.
Go Obama ’08!!!

I’m from Chicago and I could say a lot but I’ll keep it short and sweet.
If you vote for Obama, your most likely an idiot between the age of 18-25. Vote for Obama and watch the Republicans gain the white house again.

Um, excuse me — how many of these “Latinos” are actually legal to vote? That would be my question. Because if you are NOT legally a citizen of this country, you have no right to voting or representation by our elected officials or through our political process. If you’re legal, fine. But if you are an illegal alien and have not gone through the proper channels to obtain U.S. citizenship, you are prohibited from voting and you do not have a say as to what goes on in this country, or who is elected into leadership positions. Actually, you really shouldn’t even be here, living her and taking advantages of what our country has to offer, without having legal citizenship, paying taxes, and so forth.
And by the way, if you do happen to be American citizens, why don’t all you “Latinos” just stop calling yourself that and just call yourself Americans? If you’re here, stop speaking Spanish and identifying yourself with Mexico or wherever you came from. You are going to tear down this country and make it look like the countries you came from — corrupt, divided, and weak. America is better than that — and you should aspire to better things as well other than remaining a small, disenfranchised group. Americans who came here from other countries in the past assimilated into this culture and became American alongside every other race and culture. We were all ONE. That is what made America strong. Your politics and game playing will make it weak.

Truth: Clinton and her supporters did/tried to suppress votes by their phone lawsuit when Union endorsed Obama, it did not work.
False: Hillary does wants them to vote only if they vote for her, otherwise don’t bother to vote.
Truth: Both Hillary and Obama have great affection and empathy for the Latino people. Democrats are the party of inclusiveness.
I just think Barack Obama would be better at bringing and uniting people together, staying positive and on message, being truthful and himself and not some spin master.

All those that do not like Obama as president are evidently supporting how difficult making a change is. But, if we really need change then lets move forward…and let Obama in and do the job to redefine the position and place of our country in the world. He should be the best for us this time in the history and future of the human race.

A review of Obama’s votes on Iraq:
2002: opposed the war
Obama’s position before the invasion was one of passionate opposition while an antiwar rally: In 2002, when he was an Illinois state senator
2004: Started to hide his opposition to the war
When he ran for Senate in 2004, he continued to oppose the war and said he would “unequivocally” vote against an additional $87 billion of war funding.
Obama’s 2002 antiwar speech disappeared from his website during his Senate run in 2004 – he was hiding it because it was unpopular.
In 2004 Obama, in order to not lose the presidential nominee’s (John Kerry) favor, he said he wasn’t sure how he would have voted if he’d been in the Senate at the time of the war authorization.
2005: Supported Iraq funding that he opposed in 2004
BUT after taking office in January 2005, Obama voted numerous times to support Iraq funding, to the tune of more than $300 billion.
Obama gave his first major speech about Iraq as a member of the Senate in November 2005, 11 months into his term. He did not oppose the war.
2006: Voted against Early withdrawal
In June of 2006, Obama voted AGAINST a proposal by Senator John F. Kerry to remove most troops from Iraq within a year
2007: Running for President – anti-war once more
Obama didn’t introduce legislation to end the war until last January 2007n he was exploring a run for president.
He first voted against funding for the war in May 2007, after he had declared his candidacy for president

This is the only article I’ve seen providing an example of how Obama’s campaign is distorting the truth and using the race card. Yes, the race card. I guess the fact that it is the Hispanic race doesn’t count much in the eyes of the media – or the Obama supporters. Shame on them. If this was done by the Clinton campaign, it wouldn’t be buried in the mix of other articles, it would be a headline on every news show and newspaper around the country and the Obama supporters would be ranting and hurling the same nasty insults they do on all the blogs. By the way, in terms of experience, a state senator does not come close to dealing with the issues that a U.S. senator does. It is a part-time job that deals with one state – it may be a stepping stone but, realistically, it can’t be used as a one-on-one comparison to service in the U.S. Senate.

The hypocritical lies of the Democratic party, two candidates that are not qualified, is really embarressing. If we realize that another, more appealing, Republican is actually better for the country, we could stand up and be proud, instead of ashamed.

Posted by: jack | January 18, 2008, 8:29 am 8:29 am

Devil is in the details, folks. If we refuse to debate the issues and learn the facts, we are destined to repeat the same mistakes in electing our leaders. Electing on the basis of “likablity” and “inspiration”. As I recall, people beat up on Al Gore for being too boring, too smart to talk to average yokels, and too policy oriented.. and guess what, we ended up with Dubya. Please, let’s not make that mistake again.

Posted by: atlantachick | January 18, 2008, 9:28 am 9:28 am

Let’s read the story and focus on details. Obama did NOT take out those radio ads. A group that supports him did. That means he did not have the chance to say okay, it’s a fair ad or not. You can’t judge him by one group of supporters’s actions.
But if you listen to Clinton speak, she actually says mean and untrue statements about Obama ever since he won in Iowa. She is choosing to run her campaign negatively by attacking the opposition. She lost my vote as soon as she started with that garbage.
In my mind, a politician should be able to win over voters by the strength of his or her own plans for the presidency. She can’t because many of her ideas aren’t original or aren’t workable or are just small band-aids for problems which are gaping wounds.
My favorite is Edwards because he is the champion of the middle-class and the common worker. His ideas really seem the most workable and common sense.
Obama is a close second because he has the ability to get people enthused enough to get involved. And his plans make much more sense than Clinton’s.
Please read each candidate’s ‘issues’ plans on their own websites before you decide who to vote for. Don’t vote on clips some news organization chose to show for ratings or some sound byte that is shown over and over. Read their plans for solving the nation’s problems.
And Clinton fans, remember you are not voting Bill into office again. You are voting for someone counting her first lady experience as part of those 35 years she keeps touting. Only her time as senator counts unless you want to say Laura Bush should run on her ‘experience’ in the White House.

Why is it people don’t have the guts to confront the people responsible for whatever attack ads they hate? They’d rather stick their head in the sand and just blame Obama. Hell, go after the people who decided to put the ad out, not Obama, he had nothing to do with it. But more than anything, go after Hillary Clinton, who decided to disenfranchise voters in Nevada. If she had been backed by the Culinary Union I guarantee you she would’ve never started that lawsuit against the voters in Nevada.

Barack is a silver tongued politician. Like all the rest. The problem with Obamba is, he is going to lose if he makes it to the real election and we will be left with a Republican in the white house. When Barack played the race card when he lost in New Hampshire he showed his true colors. He is a skilled politician and will cheat and steal to get elected. With attack against Hillary shows how much of a divider he can really be. The Republicans will eat him alive!!

Posted by: dbatista | January 18, 2008, 11:58 am 11:58 am

It’s pretty simple, the Clintons filed a lawsuit trying to ban a caucus when they learned their chances of winning said caucus were lower than they originally thought. That is called “rigging an election”. It’s one thing to play dirty, it’s another to blow the whistle when your opponent is in clear violation of the rules.

Posted by: Sarah | January 18, 2008, 11:58 am 11:58 am

If the actions of my republican friends are any indication, their party is done and the INDEPENDENTS can become the second most powerful party in the USA. First step though is that INDEPENDENTS have to vote Democratic this Novemeber and devastate the republicans so thoroughly that the road will be paved for the INDEPENDENTS to rise up and take the republican position. There is no guarantee INDEPENDENTS can handle the responsibility and bring forth viable candidates. Thus fringe parties will have an opening to beat people in primaries and get in on general election fun. The republicans will not take this downfall so well so pat them on the head and throw them a bone to run after. At least, with NIXON, a few republicans with guts knew when it was time to take the PERP walk to the WHITE HOUSE and tell dumbdumb the JIG was up. Modern republicans got no guts except what they allow into our food chain by their failed leadership.

Posted by: daddyblue | January 18, 2008, 12:41 pm 12:41 pm

We need to think of the big picture here, we need to look past the primaries and see who will win the general election. You win elections by winning over independents. While Hillary has modest support from democrats (modest in the sense that nationally she now only has an 8 to 12% advantage among democrats over Obama depending on the poll) she has absolutely no support from any republicans and support which could be classified as tepid at best from few independents. In head to head match ups against John McCain, Clinton is already behind in the polls and the real mud slinging hasn’t even begun.
Republicans are hoping for a Clinton victory people! Just listen to Karl Rove and to the pundits on right wing radio and Fox News run their mouths. They are literally salivating. And while the Republican Party looks to be in shambles there is one sure thing that can guarantee huge Republican turnout on Election Day, their hatred for HRC. All polls show nationally that almost 50% of the population has an unfavorable view of her. If only 50% of voters are even willing to consider voting for you there is no way you can win a general election.
Obama has a cross-over appeal not felt for generations, a cross-over appeal that can more effectively heal the divide in this great country, a cross-over appeal that will cause independents to vote for him in droves and guarantee a victory in November. He may even win over some Republicans. If he is the democratic nominee this year we will have a democrat as president. Pick Hillary and we will have at least four more years of the mess we’ve had for the past eight. Guaranteed.

At least he isn’t involved with the dirty politics of Washington. The Clintons are. Willy should take better care of himself, he looked like he was going to have a stroke. I am sick of him too. What group is suffering disportionately from the subprime fraud. Latinos. What firm was responsible for packaging much of the subprime junk together while simultaneously making a killing shorting the securities of the banks it sold the junk to? Goldman Sachs. Who is the number one contributor (corporate and individual employee contributions combined)to BOTH Clinton and Obama. Goldman Sachs. Get the picture. Geez, Americans are stone cold dumb. Next time Hillary gets in front of a bunch of her adoring Latino fans, would somebody PLEASE ask her about why Goldman Sachs has been both her and Bill’s number one supporter (or close) for over 15 straight years. Just a coincidence hedge funds and private equity started hollowing out America about that time? Obama is owned by the same people that own the Clintons. Hillary says she has been serving the public for 35 years. Let’s see, her and Bill were worth a million or so when he ran for President in 1992, and now – after 15 more years of public service – they are worth 50 million. I can’t believe any American is still dumb enough to vote for any Democrat or Republican.

I would imagine that many latinos would support the Clintons. They’re not real big on enforcing the law on illegal immigration. They don’t care. They probably just fine buying the latino vote with promises of socialism and turing a blind eye to the crimminal invasion of millions into the US and do nothing about it.

Dear Australian “ME”. Did you actually say that we (Americans) need to do our homework and some being lazy? You claim to have done your homework, well, if that were true then you’d know that Hillary got into politics when Obama was still in diapers. She was a Governer’s wife, First Lady and now a senior senator. Obama is a junior senator with little track record. If you’re wondering why he’s good at giving speeches but not in answering ad hoc questions then you need to visit his home town of Hyde Park on the south east side of Chicago and learn that he’s been serving in the pulpit for far longer than he has been in politics. Yes, his religious side isn’t showing so much right now, but just wait until he gets into office and shows his true colors. Come visit…I’ll even let you stay with me, I live 6 miles from him. And yes, I’ve met him long before you or most of the country. He’s sharp, articulate and good at prepared speeches…But where is the “beef”?

For the first time in many years I am excited about this election. For the first time I will be voting for someone I truly believe in. I am a Hispanic female from NY and I will be voting for Obama. He has tried to keep his campaign free of any race or gender comments. He is extremely optimistic and inclusive. I really believe that we can once again be the world leader that we once were. We can once again gain the respect of so many other countries. That we can turn around our economy and bring our troops home. I am so tired so reading so many of the negative comments that my fellow countryman(woman) are saying. Let’s all try and stay with the facts, which will help all of us make an educated decision about our vote. Let’s focus on the big picture and pick the candidate who will bring us all together for the better of this country which I love so much.

I’m voting for Obama, I like Hillary, but I hate her supporters. If HRC wasn’t running for the democratic nomination I would think she was a Republican how nasty her surrogates and supporters have gotten. This election will be dirty because (just like Edwards said) the entrenched interests in Washington (HRC) will not give up power without a fight. Let Obama take the gloves off and beat them and then when he is President we can start the process of changing the way we run our nation. This is why I never trust anyone over 50. Because they will always fight dirty to get what they want.

Just a thought. For over 50 years, black folks have been devoted to the Democratic party. One has to look at history to find if the democratic party has had the best interest at heart for blacks. NO! The Human Rights and Civil Rights movement of the mid to late 1800′s, one starting with Fredrick Douglass; the movement with Marcus Garvey during the twenties, and later with Dr. Martin Luther King was the force that made the difference. Not the party. Black Americans EMBARRASSED this country in front of the WORLD into doing the right thing. The overwhelming majority of DEMOCRATS during the fifties and sixties were racist and voted AGAINST Civil Right Laws. I give a brief history of black folks in America to tell the new great minorities (Spanish speakers) that the democratic party will do unto to you as they have done unto Blacks- TAKE you for granted. Don’t fall for the hokey doke.
Don’t give them 50 years to pacify your demands. And when they all talk about protecting ‘our’ borders, make sure they include the Canadian border.

Obama is the establishment candidate who is being sold to us in a nice package of being populist and for “change”! Come on people, the writting is on the wall. What is amazing is how much support he is getting from the Democratic establishment – these are the same people who didn’t do anything to change bush’s policies after the last election which brought them to power in congress. Obama just praised Reagan and called the republicans the party of ideas for the past 10 years! Can you belive this. Of course he is popular with the republicans. Those of us in Nevada who have been watching the news coverage, reading all the articles, etc., realize the one playing the dirty politics is indeed Clinton. It was her campaign at the back of the lawsuit to disenfranchise voters…two days after the Culinary Union decided to endorse Obama. And, if you have been following it like a lot of others have, you would see that Clinton’s interest in the Hispanic people is strictly for their vote. When her campaign tried to get voters disenfranchised and it didn’t work, those voters got very upset…and I, for one, cannot blame them for feeling betrayed by the Clinton campaign who made a big deal out of being for the Hispanic people…
Obama was not a party to the lawsuit, he did not try to disenfranchise voters. Are you now saying the feeling of the Hispanic people, as voiced in that radio ad, should have been silenced? That is the same as saying the lawsuit was ok. And I do not agree.

Obama once again pulls the race card. His staff started all that race stuff about MLK last week then he denied it. Obama finally admitted it but did not fire the staff who started the race card issue.
Obama is privately high-fiving his staff for starting the race card issue just before south carolina and nevada

Say all you want. I am still voting for Obama. The Clinton Machine started all the garbage about the race issue. Think back—-Hillary was the one that started all the comments! She didn’t surpise me one bit. Then Willy chimed in. The Clinton Machine think they are “above” anything and all of us and they can do whatever they want. Now someone is invading their territory. Too bad! I am a white female senior citizen, but I consider myself an American first,I never think about “race”. It is unimportant and irrelevant. WE are ALL human beings, WE all deserve better, WE are one people and we should be United. We should not allow anything to divide us. Go Obama! Go Packers!

Senator Obama now applauds the republican party as the one with ideas and invokes Ronald Reagan. What do you stand for senator? Are you saying that Bush and Cheney had all the ideas for the last 8 years? Are you dissing the only democratic president for the past 30 years, Bill Clinton.

Hillary and Bill had no complaints when their supporters went to court to stop the at large caucusing (that had been in place for a year) 6 days before causcus and 12 hours after the union endorsed their opponent but they can sure complain when they are exposed. Sorry guys you can’t have it both ways

Obama is slick and appeals to young voters who don’t know anything about history.
He goes around saying “Si Se Puede,” which was the slogan of the United Farm Workers back in the 1960s, but he gives no credit to Cesar Chavez or his work. In the 60s, CA farm workers were beaten and jailed for trying to form a union. Reagan was the CA Governor back then and he sided against the farm workers. And Obama thinks that Reagan brought people together and had some good ideas? I don’t think so! Ask the Air Traffic Controllers!
Obama is all flash, no substance. He doesn’t fool me at all.

LOOK NOW WHAT HAPPENED TO SENATOR OBAMA HE LOST IN NEVADA. HE IS PLAYING A DIRTY TRICKS AGAIN! HE THOUGHT HISPANIC VOTER WILL TAKE THE BAIT OF HIS NEGATIVE ADS. HISPANIC VOTERS ARE SMART AND THEY HAVE A MIND OF THERE OWN.
OBAMA SHAME ON YOU! YOUR TRUE-COLOR IS COMING OUT! AS THE SAYING GOES: NOTHING HIDDEN CANNOT BE REVEAL! HE WILL DO ANYTHING DO GET THE WHITE HOUSE. HE PLAYED WITH FIRE BEFORE TAKING “RACE” AS AN ISSUE. I HOPE AFRICAN AMERICAN VOTER WILL DISCERN THIS – DON’T BE BLINDED WITH HIS RHETORICS..

Obama is “African-American” when it’s beneficial. Otherwise, according to him, he transcends race. Is he the great “white hope”? Bennet referred to him as a “real” African American. Go figure. His surrogates throw stones and hide their hands. Those radio ads backfired.
