Clinton: This Is Personal
ABC News’ Eloise Harper Reports: Speaking in North Bergen, N.J., Sen. Hillary Clinton was brought on stage by Sen. Bob Menendez. Menedez spoke in Spanish and riled up the majority-Hispanic crowd.
A banner behind a group of Clinton supporters read: "Juntos con Hillary, Una Vida Mejor."
Clinton rattled through her stump speech. She told the crowd that she is going to need their help cleaning up the White House and suggested they bring their brooms and vacuum cleaners to help.
Clinton closed with a line that she doesn’t normally use.
"This is really personal to me," Clinton said. "I want New Jersey to be with me not just on Feb. 5 and all the way through the election in November."
Then Clinton began chanting/yelling, "Will you help me? Will you help me? Will you help me? Will you help me? Will you help me? Will you help me?"
After that members of the crowd chanted back, "Will you help me?" — and the cries soon turned into calls of "Hillary! Hillary!"

“…suggested they bring their brooms and vacuum cleaners to help.”
This is what she thinks of them, maids and servers! It’s a shame they are to stupid to see that. Man, we need some major Immigration reform…
Oh and ‘the this is personal to me’, well that was John Edwards line. This liar and her camp co-opts everyone’s message. I will delight in voting for the Repubs. for the first time in my life b/c of this nut case.

Wow Christine, calling Mrs. Clinton a nut case is pretty harsh. You might not agree with her policies or direction for the country, but calling someone a nutcase is very inappropriate. I see a lot of this overt hostility in many Obama supporters. Why is that???
Posted by: Jay | January 23, 2008, 10:16 pm 10:16 pm
Barack Obama is a statesman who speaks of uniting America to solve our problems as a nation. He is running for president on “us” not “me”. On Sunday he spoke of this in Atlanta, check his website and you will hear his leadership. Clinton offers nothing like this, for her it is all about “me”. Is a campaign really supposed to be “personal” ?How many times did she chant “help me”, what about helping “us”? I thought that’s what a president was for.

Why so much difficulty with Hilary. She is only the most accomplished capable candidate running (check her record, all of it). This lady can fight, this lady can govern. She tells the truth and she beats the media. She’ll win in SC because Bill was the first black president and will make a darn fine First Man!
Posted by: rvormwald | January 23, 2008, 10:32 pm 10:32 pm
With Hillary, it’s all about HER. Just helping HER. Sure, it’s PERSONAL to HER.
Is that what we really want in a president? I don’t. I’ll be voting for anyone but HER.

Diane, you clearly are not informed, Hillary distorts the truth to suit her needs.
Bill is also desperate to make up for all the deplorable humiliation he caused her. Obama is merely speaking the truth which clearly YOU cant handle.

Mrs. Clinton has been an elected official for eight years. Obama has been an elected official for eleven.
By my calculations, that leaves her with the experience deficit.
Also, she is kind of a jerk. anybody notice that? Ew.

Why don’t you research the work that each of the candidates has done and then base your choice on that. This country needs a COMPETENT leader. We’re at war, we owe trillions of money and a lot of people die because they can’t afford healthcare and all you people care about is to bash. If a lot of you are well-off and don’t care about the issues then can you please at least have COMPASSION for the people who are in dire situations and will even be worse-off because of the dwindling ECONOMY.

Jay, yes Barack falsely denied that he was in favor of a single payer health care package. He made a mistake not admitting that he favored it but truth be told that plan makes more sense.
Billary is actually continuing her distortions and lies with ads stating Obama endorsed republican proposals during the Reagan years. He did not say that at all. Her accusation is simply not true period. She makes me sick. Bill is an adulterer and Hillary has earned no respect for her support of him. Do you remember theyre lies while he was in office? “I did not have sex with that woman!” Ok fine lets not look at theyre moral values. She’s a scorned woman riding the coat tails of a humiliated President.
Very sad.

The Washington Post graded the candidates’ economic stimulus packages:
Barack Obama: A-minus. I criticized his previous tax plan, but Obama is at the head of the class with an intelligently designed, $120 billion stimulus plan. He would speed a $250 tax credit to most workers, followed by another $250, triggered automatically, if the economy continues on its sour path. Obama would direct a similar rebate to low- and middle-income seniors, who are also apt to spend and could get checks quickly. One demerit: Obama omits any increase in food stamp benefits, which Moody’s estimates would have the greatest bang for the buck, $1.73 for every dollar spent.
John Edwards: B-minus. Edwards gets points for handing in his paper early — in December, he issued a $25 billion stimulus proposal (plus $75 billion more if needed), including important help to states to avoid cutting Medicaid rolls. But like Hillary Clinton (see below), he would spend too much money on programs — investing in “green collar” jobs, for instance — with too long a lag time to make them an effective stimulus. Edwards’s grade goes down because he also hasn’t explained how the $75 billion would be spent.
Hillary Clinton: C-plus. Clinton, too, raised the issue early, then turned in a faulty first draft with a $70 billion stimulus plan that didn’t provide much immediate stimulation. It included a $25 billion increase in the program to help low-income Americans with heating costs — an excessive amount (the current program is under $3 billion) that probably wouldn’t kick in until next winter. Even worse was her housing plan, including a five-year freeze on subprime mortgage rates that could produce higher interest rates and reduce liquidity.

Hilary is so fake. You have to remember she softened her stand after the NH primaries, when she realised softenning up wins her votes. I really find it hard to trust that woman. Her campaign style has really dmagaed her reputation. Why not just compete rather than attacking the opposition with false accusations. She says ont thing, then backs it up with another. She will say anything to wein votes. Sometimes I wonder , these die hard supporters od Hilary, why cant they see her for what she really is????

1996: Hillary Clinton testified before a federal grand jury about the billing records from Rose Law Firm and Whitewater. In 2002, Independent Counsel Robert Ray released his final report on the eight-year investigation of the Clintons, saying they had not obstructed justice or committed perjury, BUT THAT THEY HAD GIVEN INACCURATE TESTIMONY.
So they are known for inaccurate testimony with crocodile tears, what kind of leader would she become if she is elected to the White House.
The World suffer two much under Bush, we don’t want another leader that will be economic with the truth as a World Leader.

What fresheness does Obama bring to the race? He’s just as dishonest and nasty as every other conventional politician, but he’s more overtly wishy washy. He has no solid message for his campaign’s foundation. However, Hillary has a solid campaign message; one that is hard to puncture – she may not talk too much – but is straightforward.
Posted by: GT | January 24, 2008, 1:02 am 1:02 am
Who on earth writes her speeches?!?!
First she treats them as if they’re all cleaning people, then she steals the Edwards line about “this is personal to me”, then she acts like Eva Peron repeating that one line “Will you help me?” over and over and over again.
At least you didn’t repeat Obama’s “Fired up, ready to go line again.” Even she had to be embarrassed to steal that. (Although she didn’t mind stealing his economic stimulus package.)
Does she have an original thought in her head? Ever?

The clinton’s accomplishments:
After 2 years in office, they gave us the first REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED SENATE in 8 years. There was an 8 seat swing because of the clinton’s corruption.
After 2 years in office, they also gave use the first REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED HOUSE in 40 year. There was a 54 seat swing because of the clinton’s corruption.
They also gave up 12 more seats to REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS that year.
And after 8 years in office, we were all so sick of the clinton’s corruption that they gave us EIGHT YEARS OF A REPUBLICAN PRESIDENCY.
If they had done even a 1/2 good job…
They were in power for how many years? Why didn’t they do any of the things that they are promising us now back then?

Most of you who are critizing Hillary are being nasty, you really think this works,it just gets their backs up and encourages them to vote for her. What exactally has she done against you,and why would Bill be called the first black president? I really am learning a lot about American Politics but I certainally don’t need the elementry school antics, children call names, adults try to explain. Why is one candidate more suitable than the other? Is a half black man going to do a better job than a white woman? Is the colour of skin the most important thing in this world.. .then we are a stupid bunch of racists, not the candidates.I think their ideals are fantastic, if Hillary and Obama joined forces the world not just America would change..

I agree gramma moses – the hatred directed at Hillary is terrible.
She brings 35 years of experience to the table and a solid record of working for change. And for that she gets attacked relentlessly.
I have all the faith in the world that Hillary will fight against the odds and pull off this nomination. She has been fighting an uphill climb against the Republican attack machine and the smears and distortions by Barack Obama for months and I know that most people wrote her off but she will beat the establishment that has fought against her. Hillary will prevail and turn the page on the disasterous Bush era!
Let’s help carry Hillary threw these tremendous obstacles and restore the America that we knew and loved!

Perhaps people hate her because of the way they are running a dishonest campaign? Their tactics are deplorable. The things they decried (politics of personal destruction / slash and burn) that were done to them they are not doing to her opponents. I’m sorry but Democrats do not engage in such foolishness, at least I thought they didn’t. Such acts are very offensive and insulting.
They are operating a win at all cost campaign. In the process they are splitting the Democratic party. DOES ANYONE SEE THAT? How can you call yourselves true Democrats and still support someone like that?! It doesn’t make sense.
If they weren’t such people of low character, people would still respect. They deserve no better than what they put out.

Posted by: Arizonian | January 24, 2008, 4:25 am 4:25 am
I voted twice for Bill – and in 2000 I would have voted a third time because I couldn’t stand the thought of a Bush Presidency.
But now after 7 years of nonstop deception in the White House I understand what the Republicans were complaining about during the 90′s. The truth, in fact, really does matter. And it is thoroughly apparent to any objective person that the Clintons simply are anathema to honesty.
I don’t regret my former votes, but I will never vote for the Clinton team again. Integrity does matter – perhaps more than anything else – for democracy to remain functional.

A smart, a fighter, an experienced woman doesn’t bring the message she is delivering: Republican hatred, divisionism, vicious attacks against a candidate of her own party, preaching exactly the opposite of what she has done all her life, an arrogant and superiority complex and a get-out-of-my-way attitude if you can’t help me get what I want. If that is what feeds her supporters, it is very sad! Those supporters will ruin it for everybody and anyone of those Republican candidates will do much better than her: none of them is preaching as much hate as she is.

Someone please show me where this candidate has 35 years of political experience. I don’t see it.
Somehow, I don’t think that being the First Lady of Arkansas, and than becoming the First Lady of the United States quantifies that claim. Nor does the inclusion of her time as the standing junior Senator from the State of New York. Time spent as a lawyer on the board of Wal-Mart does not count as political experience, either.
So, if she has this tremendous wealth of political knowledge, why than is she having an issue with staying on topic with her campaign platform, rather than lambasting all of the other Democratic candidates with what I see as disengenous nonsense?
I’m not saying she *doesn’t* have experience, but who among them really is “ready to run on Day One…”?

Nothing was so great as to watch the Clinton’s abandon all their principles when we took congress. We got welfare reform and faith based initives! Meanwhile you guys got a blue dress and a wasted presidency.

Older demographics support that Clinton voters watch tv, but much younger viewers tend to go online.

Hillary wants them to clean out the White House? She and Bill cleaned it (and Air Force One) out when they left the last time. Remember the shame of the Clinton presidency. Another example to remember when she talks about tax policy: she received a large campaign contribution from the wife of the largest tax cheat in American history and then her husband issued him a pardon. They are our shame.

I would suggest that you check her record before you ask others too. You cannot even spell her name, so I doubt that you are aware that she is corrupt to the core, something that any cursory look into her record would uncover.
On another note; since when is it appropriate for a presidential candidate to campaign in spanish?
Could she make it more obvious that she needs the least educated voters possible?
Take a look at the demographics of her primary voters, you will soon find that only the poorest and least educated will vote for Hillary!

I was very disappointed at Hillary when I watched a youtube video of Peter Paul vs Hillary. We surely don’t want to go through investigations after investigations. We can not afford that any more. I truly thought she was an honnest individual, but when you misrepresent facts over and over again , your campaign distribute e-mails to accuse Obama of being a muslim
when her campaign scares women in California I think it only indicates how she operates. When you don’t agree with her she crushes you. Woow , but this time i Think her calculation is off, the DNC knows she will never beat a republican almost 65% of the country find her polarizing. You may not agree with republican ideas or policies, but can’t demonize them, espacially when you are not a saint. You need to take what’s good in each camp for the good of America , that’s why I think Barack is the man to consider. More than ever America need to unite.

Hilary lost to Obama in Iowa when Bill Clinton did not attack Obama. After the lose, Hilary stood behind her husband to let Bill Clinton do all the attacking while herself played the victim to win New Hampshire and Nevada. I am so sick and tired of the the Clintons political games. They are running for the Presidency for themselves, not us. Also, Bill Clinton’s attack on Obama reminded me of the bully in school yard. He knows he is the former president and no body can stop him. God helps us to stop the political games in Washington and to show the Clintons that we are not stupid.

Jay,
“Thirty-five years experience” at what?
Hillary only has one term of elected office, was never been appointed to a government office before that, and has never been through any confirmation hearings.
Her “experience” before the Senate consists of: First Lady, lawyer for the Rose Law Firm, and running secretive/imperious back room meetings to cook up a risky HeathCare scheme which resulted in the GOP taking Congress in 1994.
As a Senator, she has never sponsored any major bills, and never chaired a committee.
Posted by: carl | January 24, 2008, 2:40 pm 2:40 pm
Carl – its a valid question.
She touts her 35 years of experience in the public arena. However, a significant portion of that 35 years was spent with the Rose Law Firm as a private attorney.
So right there we already see the statement beginning to whither under the mildest of scrutiny.
Wasn’t she also a law professor? More time not working public issues.
Then, of course, we would have to come to whether first lady positions qualify as the type of experience she implies.
Granted, she was more policy oriented than most spouses in the White House. I don’t remember any other First Lady ever being given a project like trying to develop a health coverage proposal.
But its also important to note after that project’s failure, Hillary wasn’t as prominent. And add to that the revelation that she never held a security clearance during those years.
Yeah, the 35-years of experience claim is certainly questionable – in fact, blatantly untrue because we know she was working in the private sector during some of that time.
