Cooks Vote, Too

ABC News’ Z. Byron Wolf reports: As polls closed and John McCain was almost immediately projected as the winner of the New Hampshire primary, libertarian Republican Ron Paul was at a small dinner at the Barley House in Concord, N.H,, for donors and supporters.

Trevor Lyman, who, while unaffiliated with the campaign, was responsible for organizing the Web sites that raised Paul more than $10 million in two 24-hour periods in November and December, sat across from Paul.

But there were other supporters at the restaurant, too — in the kitchen.

Before the food came, one of the waitresses serving the group, which was keeping an eye on results, showing Paul bouncing between fourth and fifth place, on a big TV at the end of the room, told Paul that "all the guys working in the kitchen voted for you."

Paul threw his napkin on the table and shot up from his chair, marching toward the kitchen to thank them for their vote.

The cooks were shocked to see their candidate stride into the kitchen, his hand outstretched.

One cook was working the grill and could not come over.

"Let that one be medium well," said the server.

"It’s his dinner," the flustered cook shot back, before eventually abandoning the steak to come over and pose for a picture.

Paul did not complain afterward that his food was overcooked.

Later, he will speak to reporters at the Courtyard Marriott in Concord, located, appropriately enough, on Constitution Street.
