EXCLUSIVE: Obama Rips Bill Clinton Slams as ‘Troubling’ and Inaccurate

ABC News’ Michael James and Tahman Bradley Report: Sen. Barack Obama says he’s ready to confront former President Bill Clinton, calling his advocacy on behalf of his wife’s presidential campaign, "troubling."

In an exclusive interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts to air Monday on "Good Morning America," Obama, D-Ill., directly engages Bill Clinton on a series of issues.

"You know the former president, who I think all of us have a lot of regard for, has taken his advocacy on behalf of his wife to a level that I think is pretty troubling,” Obama said. “He continues to make statements that are not supported by the facts — whether it’s about my record of opposition to the war in Iraq or our approach to organizing in Las Vegas. This has become a habit, and one of the things that we’re gonna have to do is to directly confront Bill Clinton when he’s making statements that are not factually accurate."

Obama apparently refers to Clinton’s comment that it was a “fairy tale” that Obama has consistently opposed to the Iraq war from the start, and that Nevada union officials backing Obama were strong-arming members into caucusing for Obama.

The former president took on Obama’s Iraq position at a Dartmouth College event days before the New Hampshire primary, saying that it was wrong Obama was able to trumpet superior judgment on Iraq by being opposed to the war from the start.

"Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I’ve ever seen," Bill Clinton said.

Clinton was making the case that Obama — just like Sen. Hillary Clinton — has voted to fund the war since he’s been in office.

Would be an interesting debate. Bill Clinton is playing such an heavy role in this campain you can wonder who is running.

republicans are loving bill’s performance. hillary can’t campaign for herself? wow, completely fair game for the gop this fall.
bill is weakening hillary. don’t blame obama; blame bill.
as some pundit said this weekend, if hillary can’t control bill during the primary, it’s going to be the same thing in the white house. bill is being dishonest and twisting beyond recognition everything obama’s words.
obama is doing exactly the right thing by confronting BILL directly. he’s the campaigner, the attack dog, the one throwing mud.
hillary benefits from bill’s name, wealth, presidency, campaign grassroots and advisers. and now bill is the primary campaigner for her? enough already.

Why aren’t most of Barack Obama’s appearances in the media? Sounds like the media is again coronating Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee prematurely.

Posted by: angelus | January 20, 2008, 4:19 pm 4:19 pm

Hey Democrats! Ask yourselves this question; why were George Will, Mathew Dawd (campaign strategist for Bush-Cheney) on This Week and Tim Russert and his fellow round table on Meet the Press, doing damage control for Obama this morning? They twisted his loss in Nevada, defended his Ronald Reagan phopah and lack of support from the Spanish community. Don’t turn away people….face it! They’re saving him for later. They are just licking their chops, waiting for the kill. We can not buy their Obama sell. The Republicans, as I have stated in the past, own MSNBC, CNN and others. They control the message that is being put out. They have used the same sell for Obama as they did Bush; type of guy you can have a beer with, a Uniter, optimistic etc. Same pitch different guy. But not because they’re on the side of Democrats; they’re Republicans! Don’t take the Republican bait. Hillary in 2008!

I voted for Bill twice, and now I am just embarressed by the way he has been conducting himself.

Dear Bill,
We loved Bill Clinton as president.
When you told us you didn’t inhale, with that little twinkle in your eye, we believed you and loved you even more.
When you got more than just a twinkle in your eye and a cigar in the — well, we stuck by you. We rallied against the vast right wing conspiracy and ushered Newt and his fellow reptilians out of office.
Man, the 90s were fun – huh? The Macarena alone… But now we’re in a new decade. Web 2.0, YouTube and camera phones; preemptive wars and terrorist attacks. It’s a new era. And we’ve spent 8 years under the thumb of a royal son.
We’re ready for change. We have some amazing Presidential Candidates. Edwards, Obama, and of course, the candidate like family to you – Clinton.
I know you want your wife to win. A lot of us want a Democrat in 2008. But you’re getting mean Bill. That twinkle in your eye is starting to look more like crazy eye.
You’re making accusations that Karl Rove & Co. will eat up and spit back out at us come time for the general election.
You’re actually disenfranchising folks this time around, dividing the electorate at a time we need to come together.
And Bill, you’re starting to make stuff up. And this time, we’re noticing. It’s a new era, Bill; everything you say is recorded and broadcast.
So what we’re asking, Bill, is that you just shut up.
Just shut up.
Sincerely,
Pretty Much Everyone

Obama, you had better know that you are up against “THE” pro spin politician. Bill has told more lies about opponents than that comedian who was the pathological liar on Saturday Night Live. And next time, for goodness sake, put your right hand over your heart when the Star Spangled Banner is played dude!

Posted by: LongT | January 20, 2008, 4:29 pm 4:29 pm

Obama is trying to distort the truth again….and doing it in a very dishonest way. People WERE strongarming voters in Nevada on his behalf. Perhaps he wasn’t personally out there doing it but it was done in his favor. Obama can’t run from that.

Posted by: thesource | January 20, 2008, 4:30 pm 4:30 pm

I have become deeply troubled with Bill Clinton’s actions and words as of late. Bill and Hillary are literally playing good cop, bad cop. Furthermore, Obama is now running a campaign against not only Hillary but also Bill. You’d almost think that Bill Clinton is running for President again. Well, maybe he is…

Posted by: Timothy | January 20, 2008, 4:30 pm 4:30 pm

Obama is trying to act sooooo innocent. I guess it’s OK for him to routinely slam especially former President Clinton on his performance while in the WH; most recently, this including his verbal chastisement against Clinton as pretty much being a do-nothing president in terms of coming up with ideas of change and innovations; this in practically the same breath that he was gushing over former President Reagan being a much more innovative leader. Obama is desperate and can’t stand the truth. He is a phony and mudslinger and if he should become the nominee, he’ll be crushed to the ground by the attack Republican machine. Obama’s dirt with federally indicted Tony Rezko is becoming more heated up and watch for Obama’s name to surface; it’ll be entertaining to see him tap dance around the connection. Revealed today, now he’s going to donate some $40k of money received from some of Rezko’s operatives that he freely received for his past campaign efforts. So, who’s the lying phony now Barack?

Posted by: Terry | January 20, 2008, 4:30 pm 4:30 pm

In regards to President Clinton being on the attack. I love it! Obama is getting a free Republican media ride, because they anticipate an easy kill. Democrats need to get this message out and Pres. Clinton is doing it. Good job! Sick ‘em Bill! We’re behind you all the way. You set your standard. What do we care what opponents think? We’re Clinton people! The Clintons weren’t in for eight years by mistake. Nor was their vote ever contested like Bush, who we all know, didn’t win.

It would appear Mr. Obama has something to hide. If people doubt me, just read the comments made by the people in Illinois about his purpose and participation in events that would have benefitted his total base. He was not there! Too busy seeking personal wealth and gain to do his job. I should think he is the greatest divider this country has seen in a long time.

Posted by: sameol | January 20, 2008, 4:31 pm 4:31 pm

How come all the reporter are doing damage control for Obama, they are forever down on the Clintons, No one wants to talk about Obama’s past, but they don’t mind digging up Bill’s, kinda a double standard. I have listened to both Hillary and Obama and he never says any thing that amounts to anything, there is no meat in his words, all he ever says is change, ok change is good, but how are you going to do it? what is your plan? your track record on change? I mean really doesn’t have much experenice Would you want a first grader teaching in High School?

Posted by: funny | January 20, 2008, 4:32 pm 4:32 pm

No matter who wins between Hillary and Obama, there is a divide in the democrat party that will lay them bare for another republican win. The African Americans who have been on the liberal plantation for so long are finally seeing what we on the right have known all along. They are being used.

Obama is being really foolish, Bill Clinton was a great President. Instead he is attacking him, and his presidency…
It will only alienate the core-vote.

Posted by: Jaz | January 20, 2008, 4:36 pm 4:36 pm

I think Obama and Edwards should not particpate in any more debates with Hillary, until Bill is and Hillary decided to run as team. Hillary is patehtic. Hillary thought should could skate her way to the democratic nomination based on her husband presidency. When Obama and Edwards won Iowa, she went crying to her husband to help her win in Newhampshire. I don’t have any respect for Hillary or Bill for the way they have been conducting themselves against, Obama.

Posted by: JillT | January 20, 2008, 4:36 pm 4:36 pm

Bill Clinton can not shut-up. Hillary must have support from her side. Obama has his wife, Edward has his wife, the other candidates have their wives. Obama’s wife and Edward’s wife are speaking on his behalf but the media outlets are not closely looking at them.

Posted by: suzelee | January 20, 2008, 4:36 pm 4:36 pm

Billary is so yesterday. Move on. Obama for Presidnet.

Posted by: AntiRestorationDemocrat | January 20, 2008, 4:37 pm 4:37 pm

Obama needs to face the fact that Republicans have been attacking the Clintons since the beginning and they have provided his campaign and followers with all the slick, catchy phrases that bring in the college kids. The fact is, nothing President Clinton has said about Obama is false. Nevertheless, Obama’s campaign strategy once again is, talk about how bad the other side is being rather than what he will do. What’s wrong Obama, don’t have any REAL ideas to pedal?

Posted by: irma | January 20, 2008, 4:39 pm 4:39 pm

Go Bill & Hillary. At least we know who they are, when will we learn the truth about Obama? Ambition is not enough will for leadership, experience counts.

Posted by: tim | January 20, 2008, 4:40 pm 4:40 pm

Obama will bring more corruption to the white house than it had in the pawt 250 years. Look at the deals he made as soon as he became senator. Then spent his fist year selling his books. Then the next year campigning. Yeah he is a change agent for a good cult following.

Posted by: Ebon Beati | January 20, 2008, 4:41 pm 4:41 pm

The media is playing along with the Clintons all the time. Why is this man never challenged on his outright lies? He said he and his daughter witness union officials strongarming people. Everyone thinks its a lie, just like his lie that he opposed the Iraq War.
The media repeats and repeats Clinton tactics bringing up minor drug use by Obama as an adolescent but they will NEVER compare and contrast whatever thats supposed to mean with Bill Clinton having sex with Monica Lewinsky in the Oval Office as a 50 year old. Any normal person would have brought up the known Clinton scandals and put Shaheen, Penn, Kerrey, et al on the hook to say what bothered them so much about Obama when they could support Clinton?

Posted by: KateC. | January 20, 2008, 4:42 pm 4:42 pm

Obama needs to talk issues instead of empty rhetoric. This is simply a reflection that he has no experience to be President of the U.S. of America. He is out of his league. I suggest he spend 8 more years in the Senate and establish a voting record that democrats can support. Rather than Bill Clinton challenging Obama, why doesn’t the press/media step up and challenge his statements. After all, he is running for President.

Posted by: benvictor | January 20, 2008, 4:43 pm 4:43 pm

Of course Obama did this in front of a black woman (Robin Roberts). He is desperately playing his entire deck of race cards. Making Bill and Hillary Clinton the victim of his pathetic attacks at least will let Hillary kick his ass sideways on Feb 5.

Why should any of this surprise anyone, I can’t remember anything factual and correct coming from a Clinton.

WOW WOW WOW. Hot off the press. Chicago Sun Times today and Obama mentioned in the Federal indictment of Lobbyist Rezko. All politocains from the Clintons to the Edwards and the Obamas are corrupt. But, then you should not claim that you are clean. If you want someone clean vote for Ron Paul. I expect that all politicians are corrupt, but, based on my needs I will vote Hillary.

Posted by: VPNNathan | January 20, 2008, 4:46 pm 4:46 pm

Bill Clinton balanced the budget, generated a federal surplus, increased the number of jobs, and Wall Street loved him as well. The Republicans under Bush squandered that surplus, created a phony war that is bleeding us to the tune of soon to be trillion dollars, killed/maimed thousands of Amercian soldiers, outsources jobs, lost control of the borders and brought on ‘recession’. I like Obama;s hope message but right now, we need experience. You know, whenever I interviewed for a job, the first question they always asked of me was what sort of experience do you have and not what my message of hope was or how many people liked me. Experience versus kumbaya. I vote Hillary now and for Obama in 8 years! ;))

Posted by: rap | January 20, 2008, 4:47 pm 4:47 pm

I just read some of the garbage some of you Obama haters are throwing out. I heard clips of Obama’s conversation/interview, What I didn’t hear was the question. Also I heard Obama say that Regan brought ideas. What is Obama trying to do, bring about ideas to bring about change. Haters never stop hating, and haters never will get the facts straight, because their minds and hearts are blind to the truth.

Posted by: LaRhonda | January 20, 2008, 4:48 pm 4:48 pm

I have voted for Clinton in the past. However, I am disappointed to say that based on his behavior during this campaign I am embarrassed to have not seen thorugh his garbage. I truly believe he has no ethical compass and is a poor excuse for a human being.
The great thing about this election is to have learned that the phrase “that’s just politics” no longer applies. We have never seen a candidate before Obama who has tried to do it the right way. The candidates don’t differ much on the issues; consider integrity when making your decision.

Posted by: Dylan | January 20, 2008, 4:49 pm 4:49 pm

Say what you want about the Clintons: They will clean up the MESS again behind this Bush until the American people get too prosperious and decide to hire another Bush!

Posted by: Delva Satchwell | January 20, 2008, 4:49 pm 4:49 pm

Obama’s supporters show their lack of experience and knowledge of politics in their defense strategies for Obama. They call everyone else names and give no reasons to support Obama other than he is “Change” and that Hillary, a woman who will make history with her nomination, as “so yesterday”. Don’t be naive! The Republicans are behind the perceived Obama wave. We know…they hate the Clintons for a reason; The Clintons will beat them!

Posted by: irma | January 20, 2008, 4:49 pm 4:49 pm

I think Bill really needs to start acting like a former President and less like an attack dog. He looks small and petty and if Hillary can’t win on her own, she shouldn’t be President.

Posted by: Tom | January 20, 2008, 4:49 pm 4:49 pm

The Democrats are about to pull steaming defeat from the jaws of victory again. Consider for a moment the republican race has chrystalized down into a two horse race — John McCain and Mitt Romney. Neither candidate interests the evangelical segment of the republican party, in fact both are generally disliked by the this groups, McCain for undercutting blessed Bush and Romney for daring to be Mormon. There is only one name that will mobilize those people to vote for either candidate — Hillary Clinton.
Additionally both candidates do well with moderates, while Hillary Clinton only polls well with the long-time Dem faithful and has the highest negative rating in the race.
This is a recipe for disaster. Obama on the otherhand is the darling of independents and the disenfranchised. If he beats Hillary the democratcic base falls in line behind him to give him the Dems 30% and a large portion of the independent vote —say 20%. Now figuring that the evangelicals (say 10%)stay home or run their own candidate, the republicans are at best going to get 30% republican + 15% Indy. That is how you win vs. the republicans.
How can I say all of this? I am a regular voting, anti-Iraq war moderate with a strong liberal lean who probably will vote republican if Hillary is the Democratic candidate.

Posted by: Tobi | January 20, 2008, 4:50 pm 4:50 pm

The Clintons are brilliant! They figured out the media love affair with Obama. They relized that if Hillary calls Obama out on the his lack of expeeince, the media makes her a racist. So why not have Bill be the bad guy calling out Obama on a whole host of issues, so Obama and the media can keep brining up Obamas inexperience insted HRC. Obama will spend tomorrow defending himself against Bill Clinton, while Hillary will talk about the economy, ending the war, etc. The sad thing for the Republicans is that the Clintons are being nice to Obama, they will tear the Republican canidate to shreds. Polotics is war and war is ugly!! After the Democrats have complete control of the goverment, we can talk about change. The Clintons are the only ones who can deliver control.

Here goes whiny again. When his wife goes after Hillary its great when Bill stands up for Hillary he whines about how is running against 2 people. He is her husband so what do you want him to do campaign for Obama? Dah!

Posted by: voter az | January 20, 2008, 4:52 pm 4:52 pm

Come on folks, this is a campaign not a tea party. And the fact is that Obama’s rhetoric does not match the reality. He was a two year US Senator who won because he was running against Alan Keyes. As inspiring as his story is, he has a tremendous sense of entitlement that people (MSM, et al) are encouraging based on very little evidence. This is politics, and yes we need a skilled, seasoned politician. Contrary to what is being said about his lofty goals and integrity, Obama is indeed a politician (pandering comments about Reagan, Rezko association and give back of a additional $40,000 in contributions, support from Exelon, etc.) but he is a young and inexperienced one. We don’t need a neophyte either in the White House or on the campaign trail.

Posted by: Louise Raymond | January 20, 2008, 4:53 pm 4:53 pm

Bill Clinton has made unsubstantiated claims, and attacked Obama for saying the same thing Hillary and he have said about Reagan. When the Clinton campaign was asked to prove voter intimidation in Nevada, they declined. They’ll say and do whatever it takes to win, and this is one Democrat who won’t vote for them in November.

Posted by: Drew | January 20, 2008, 4:53 pm 4:53 pm

JKR, I love the letter! I almost wish it was a petition so I could sign it ;) There is no way on this green earth that the Clinton’s have been entangled in so many legal snafu’s and been innocent every single time. It’s just not mathmatically probable. The Clinton tactics this campaign have done no justice to the political process. As a registered Independent, I wish Obama would have run as an Independent and distanced himself from the Democratic party this time around.

Posted by: Sally | January 20, 2008, 4:57 pm 4:57 pm

Whoa!! Rap. (post 4:47:39)I thought it was Hillary running for President. Are you saying that its really BILL since you listed all his accomplishments? (You forgot NAFTA and all the money and jobs it sent out of the coutry. And you also forgot 9/11–ever read the Commission report that blamed his administration for not doing anything about the errorist actions durng his administration?). But all that aside, if those two (Bill and Hill) win the nomination it will split the party, and your hero Bill will be responsible. Of course a spouse should support his wife/husband. But tirades with red face and fingerpointing are a bit too much. Reign him in Hillary, and if you can’t, it says a lot about what your Presidency will be like.

Posted by: ABCforshort | January 20, 2008, 4:57 pm 4:57 pm

What a joke! MSNBC a part of the Republican media? Russert trying to help Obama? Did anyone see the Russert hour long interview with Obama where he went after him on ethics and lack of clarity on tough issues pre-Iowa caucus? The Clinton’s argue that others are trying to convince us that a Hillary nomination will divide our nation. We don’t even have to wait to find out if this is true. Since Obama won in Iowa, the Clinton’s have been doing a pretty good job of dividing Democrats. A preview of things to come. I’m tired of this divisiveness. Those Clinton supporters who are accusing Obama of dirty tricks are blinded by their loyalty. Compare how Obama accepted defeat in New Hampshire, calling for a round of applause for Hillary at his own rally. After her loss in Iowa, Bill and Hillary’s fangs came out, and she has revealed to me that this isn’t about our country, it’s about them. I don’t understand how she’s winning the female vote when her husband is doing all of the work for her. Republicans are in disarray, but if you want to see them unite behind a single candidate, give Hillary the nomination and watch what happens.

Posted by: Jorge | January 20, 2008, 4:57 pm 4:57 pm

So many ingnorant Clinton supporters and so little time. I wish you folks would get out there and do a little research. This man, Bill Clinton, lied and perjured himself when he was president. This man cheated on his wife and she hired people to strong arm the women that he cheated on her with to silence them. Do you know why? Do you care why? It wasn’t because she loved little Bill, it was because she has planned on running for President for countless years. How dare anyone ruin her reputation! The sad thing is you are all still being Fooled. When will you start thinking for yourselves and stop allowing the media and the wealthy that control our country to make decisions for you. Please start thinking outside of the box…for the sake of this country and this world. I’d also recommend you educate yourself on other candidate’s positions.. And btw, the Repubs are not voting for Barack so they can run against him, they are voting for Hillary because they KNOW they can beat her.

Democrat, if we are looking at a Clinton/Obama ticket, forgets it. Obama has been very disrespectful to the formal President and a formal First Lady. The Republican Party will never let anyone disrespect Barbara Bush, Nancy Reagan, or republican formal First Lady regardless if they disagree with them. I think they would handle it in a more respect manner. If Clinton wins, our voices will not be heard once she gets into the White House because of our actions. We can disagree with the Clinton and support Obama while being respectful to the Bill and Hillary. If I was Hillary, I would not think about considering Obama as VP. You can not disrespect someone then ask for help. We are running around saying the Bill and Hillary Clinton has not done any things for people of color. I would look at Richardson since the Latino is supporting her. Again, in Obama speech today, Obama mentioned Bill’s comments ‘Fairly Tale”. I though we were over this, playing the race card.

concerning this article, it is an interesting chessmatch. Hillary is essentially using Bill as her vice president — her attck dog. Obama is smart to directly challenge bill (not Hillary) in measured words. It begs the question who is the candidate? If he can obscure Hillary the candidate/the woman with the shadow of lying ex-president Bill Clinton, it magnifies her campaign negatives and removes what we have seen so far — the public’s willingness to overlook “clintonian tactics” because Hillary is fighting an uphill battle as a woman candidate.

I’m on the fence this election and was an enthuisastic supporter of Bill Clinton in the past. Bill’s behavior this election is one of the major factors that is driving me towards Obama. He needs to put a lid on it and let Hillary and Obama have their campaign moment. It looks pathetic and below his stature as a former President for him to be ranting the way he has.

Interestingly foolish of Obama to open the door to what will come back to bite him, his RECORD!
Clinton was accurate stating Obama’s actions (actually lack of action) vs. his stump speeches made as an outsider regarding the war!
Obama’s record in Nevada when showed one of do as I say and not as I do when crying over the teachers lawsuit over the casino voting, laying blame on the Clinton’s, yet not denounce the negative ad campaigns shows the reality of the man!

The Clintons truly don’t know how to handle Obama! He has nothing to hide. That is why they have sunk so low and have resulted to lies and unfair attacks. They are baffled. I just hope American’s can see through this like we Canadians. It is plain and simple. Don’t be fools again. Obama truly is your best hope for postive change!

I wish Bill Clinton would keep his snout out of this election. He had his shot. Let others who might bring fresh blood in for a chance. He played footsie with the corpies and the Republicans and contributed to the busting bubble we have today by letting Wall Street run on a greed rampage. He wasn’t as bad as Bush about letting pig-rich Americans rake in windfall profits at the rest of us’s expense, but almost. He put poor people out in the street with his failed policies and didn’t do much for anyone except help push to balance the budget. That much was good. But he should stay out and keep his darned hands to himself.

I was a huge bill Clinton fan for years and backed him no matter what…BUT I am sick of watching him on the campaign trail, Im sick of watching him act like he knows everything, and I am sick of Hillary sending him out to attack Obama and basically lie while she sits back away from the fray. Ive had it with both of them and would NEVER vote for her now. Shes is running for President NOT him. I will vote for Obama if given the chance..If not I hope her campaign crashes and burns in the general! Signed life long democrat.

Pickels started this anyway. Michelle “keep your house in order” Obama and Elizabeth Edwards can swipe at Hillary all they want and in the medias eyes they are supportive wifes. Bill supports his wife and the media makes her out to be weak and him to be crazy. The Obamas can play the race card and no one says anything, Bill Clinton call Obama out for being a phony and the Clintons are racists?

It’s getting more and more obvious that the corporate media are backing Obama. Bill Bennett is the latest neocon to stink up the airways with Obamapraise. Even some of us progressives are starting to get wise. The first dirtytrick of the ’08 election is to game the nomination of the democrats so we run a young black male against their serious, experienced white man. Anyone but Huckabee would win, and if Huckabee runs against Obama, Bloomberg will probably go for it.
But these guys are so devious they can’t lose. Even if Obama doesn’t make it, if they can piss off African Americans against the Clintons, they will surpress their turnout in the November election.

All one has to do is look at the clip. Obama said that Reagan was able to bring about ideas and change. He did not say they were the BEST ideas and the right change. Then Hillary and Bill jump up and say that he is saying that he had the best ideas. SIMPLY NOT TRUE and can be proven by looking at the tapes. YouTube and online videos prove them wrong. It is harder to lie when people can bring up the audio and video of EXACTLY what was said. I am tired of hearing about the economy under Clinton. He went for NAFTA, and it is now causing problems. He planted those seeds! More could have been done against terrorism under Clinton, but he was busy chasing skirts. He should be ashamed to call anything a “fairy tale” after denying having sex with “that woman” and arguing about the meanings of words to cover his lies. If you don’t think Obama has addressed the issues, then you haven’t gone to his site and done the homework; he clearly has and also has more elected years of experience than Hillary. He is trying to be a gentleman and not knock that down, but the Republicans are just waiting to do so.

Obama is getting a free ride from the media. When an Obama worker in Iowa put on press credentials to ask Obama a softball question, only ABC News reported it. (When a Hillary worker did something not as devious it was a MAJOR EARTHQUAKE.) Obama’s campaign put out a memo saying Bill Clinton’s “fairy tale” comment was anti-Black and Hillary’s comment on King and Johnson was anti-Black and the media says the Clintons are anti-Black. Not true, no way! And Obama’s campaign denies they sent the memo out. Let’s see Obama tell the truth, for a change.

I know it’s hard to believe that a good and decent person is running for president. I know that it is difficult to believe that we can actually elect a president who will dramatically change a corrupt system where so many politicians “cash in” at the expense of the Americans who voted for them. The truth is, we can believe in Sen. Barack H. Obama. He is a good man. Our country will change for the better when he is President.

She has been vilified for years by the republicans. She has been attacked in unison by Barack and Edwards. Let one person say one thing about Barack’s record, and they are not playing fair. He needs to learn how to win an election. This is not a cocktail party. Bill and Hill are veterans. Hillary can take a punch. She gets up and keeps fighting. He complains. From Bill Clinton:
“Hillary and I will always remember President Ronald Reagan for the way he personified the indomitable optimism of the American people, and for keeping America at the forefront of the fight for freedom for people everywhere”
From John Edwards:
“For 50 years, presidents from Truman and Dwight Eisenhower to Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton built strong alliances and deepened the world’s respect for us.”
“Millions of people imprisoned behind the Iron Curtain silently cheered the day President Reagan declared, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” Even if these ordinary men and women did not always agree with our policies, they looked to our president and saw a person — and a nation — they could trust.”

Finally, Obama is taking on Clinton.
I’ve been a staunch Bill Clinton supporter for years. But over the past three weeks, Bill has intentionally misled (lied) about Obama’s stance on the war and, hypocritically considering Bill himself has used Reagan as a touchstone in his campaigns and Hillary recently called Reagan a hero of her, he basically called Obama a closet Republican. Shoring-up Bill’s lies, one of Hillary’s SC campaign stops was kicked off by a man who, basically, accused Obama of being a coke-headed hoodlum.
It’s about time Obama takes on the Clinton machine and calls them on their lies. The only question is: is it too late?

Go Bill! I am so tired of Barack getting the easy ride from all the media. Someone needs to speak up and what Bill said was TRUE and needed to be said. He is an advisor and campaigner for Hillary, not just her husband people. The people who try to suggest he is just out merely to defend his wife are SEXIST. She knows what she is doing, she is in charge, Bill is doing his job and he is good at it. Barack crying over being called out on things is what is truly “troubling” when he is running for president. Hillary is above it and never knocks Barack for all of the things he does and says personally about her. She sticks to the issues. I’m sick of Barack.

Posted by: LR | January 20, 2008, 5:25 pm 5:25 pm

Every time I look around, I read statements from Hillary supporters state that one of the reasons they are supporting Hillary is “because she has Bill”. It’s past time that Obama makes clear in a debate or to the media that he is running against Hillary – NOT Hillary and Bill! No democrat or liberal wants to bring up the ugly side and the mistakes of the Clinton presidency and soap opera (the healthcare debacle, Travelgate, Whitewater, and the issues related to Bill’s personal behavior). However, their seems to be an emerging pattern to Hillary and the Clintons playing the victim, while at the same time their surrogates make snide references to Obama’s religion and drug use (as a teenager).

This might hurt some feelings but please listen carefully. Barrack Hussein Obama does not seem like a bad guy, intelligent, good speaker etc…………………..But he will never get elected as President. If we want rid of the current group of criminals in the White House then we got to nominate someone who can win a general election in all fifty states, not just a caucus full of screaming college kids. Let’s look at the negatives for Obama.
- His real name is Barrack Hussein Obama. Oh, I must be a religious bigot for saying that right? No the fact is Barrack Hussein Obama was born into a Muslim family. He recently supported the loser in the Kenyan election who is a radical Muslim and who supports strict sharia law for women including having to wear vails at all times. Barrack Hussein Obama also is in the middle of a political scandal with a guy who bribed him by helping him buy his house and lots of other terrible money matters including being a slum lord in the black areas of Chicago. That slime ball self admitted friend of Obama’s is a Muslim also. Further a man who does not have the guts to use his real name, dishonors his father, dishonors his heritage. No current soldiers or Veterans are going to vote for a man with the middle name Hussein while we are still at war with half the Middle East………..
- Barrack Hussein Obama is a bi-racial American. Not black, not white but bi-racial, yet he wants to be known as a black? Obama is the one who brought race into this equation and into this election cycle. Obama attends a black’s only church with a preacher who just honored Farrakhan with a lifetime achievement award and a church that demands that its attendees pledge allegiance to black America……He dishonors his mother and the white race for not at least acknowledging his bi-racial heritage.
- Obama besides a very weak overall elected record has never managed a business, never served in the military, never ran a large company. His one notable achievement in the Illinois legislature is that he was the ONLY person to vote no for a bill to stop late term abortions. In fact when asked he feels that a baby carried to full term is not a person. Even people who support abortion have trouble with killing a 9 month old health baby. Barrack Hussein Obama does not.
So for all you Obama supporters, who treat this man like some kind of messiah, take another look. He was born a Muslim and still supports hardcore Muslims that would put women in vails and treat them like all Muslims do which is with absolutely NO respect. He accepted a bribe to buy his house from a recently indicted slum lord, a Muslim by the way who has received 43 million in public funds to help fix up the black ghetto and instead let them live without any heat in a sub-zero temperatures. (Obama just gave back over $40,000 from this slime). A man who will not wear an American flag on his lapel, raises his hand to his heart when it is convenient, and supports the killing of full term babies. Every one of the above statements are facts, look them up. Colonel Ray

Why is it that when men run for office it is normal for their wives to speak publicly and campaign for them. ie Mrs. Edwards and Bush’s wife and Mrs. Dole etc. but when the candidate is a woman, you all think it is not right for the husband to campaign for the wife? In what Constitution does it say that your marriage partner is banned from campaigning for you? Furthermore in what Constitution does it say that if a candidate is a ex-President he she cannot campaign? Don’t fall for the slanted statements that are trying to divide us Democrats. Think for yourselves. Don’t let what you read think for you. The world is not perfect but Hillary Bill and Barack are a dream come true if typical Democrat small-thinking doesn’t screw it up (remeber 200 2004?) Lobbyists and Republicans are banking that their little planted articles will makes us follow like sheep. Let’s stick together and take this country back. The same thieves that ruined our country this past 8 years since the Clintons left are banking we will fall apart and lose our focus because of their little Carl Rove-planted articles. They want us to start a war of Barack vs. Clinton tear us apart and then win the national election because we are only sheep of limited intelligence. Take control of our future and see through their smoke by showing our true intelligence.

Obama needs to come out and lead the band singing the Star Spangled Banner, hold his hand over his heart and recite the Pledge of Allegance loudly, and start wearing a U.S. flag in his lapel. Otherwise, you are going to see the Swift Boat Vets and all the other patriotic organizations come at him harder than they did for Kerry. At least Kerry served in the military.
It has been other democrats up til now. It has been with the gloves on. Wait until this summer and fall , if he gets the nomination and the right comes at him. I think Bill Clinton is doing a great job for Hillary. He knows what he is doing. This is a man that has won the office twice. A man that is already recorded as one of the greatest presidents in American history for all posterity.
If he needs to be rained in. I am sure Hillary will do it. But he must be doing something right. Hillary keeps winning in stunning fashion. Al Gore would have done better if he had relied on Bill more.
Frankly, I think it is a very smart move. He is making it very clear that he is going to be a very supportive and involved husband to President Hillary Clinton. Just like she was for him. And that is a good thing. Because she just happens to be married to one of the greatest former presidents in our history. Two for one.
The Clinton’s are probably the most skilled politicians in American history.
Considering the catastrophic condition that we are now in at home, and abroad. You better all see to it, and hope they win.

This is well overdue, and I applaud Senator Obama on this new stance. The fact is that the Clintons are engaging in underhanded tactics and dirty campaigning. If Hillary wins the nomination as a result of dirty campaigning, which is the only way they CAN win, the democrats are guaranteed to lose in November. Also, I keep hearing this garbage about how “experienced” Clinton is, and how Obama should “wait his turn.” First of all, in terms of elected experience, Obama has been in elected office longer than Clinton; in fact, of the three top tier Democrats, he’s been in office the longest when you count his eight years in the Illinois state senate! Clinton has been in the senate just seven years, and won’t release her records as first lady for anyone to scrutinize. It’s amazing the Clintons are getting away with this. In so far as Obama “waiting his turn” THIS IS A DEMOCRACY THE LAST TIME I CHECKED! I don’t care about any deal Hillary made with Bill, America has the right to choose the president through a democratic process. This is not a dynasty.

Come on Bill, let’s reason in this scenario: You are against your children going for an expedition (iraq war in this case) but they compelled by someone else to go. While there, they get into trouble and call upon you to help them out. What would you do? Tell them off, saying it’s up to you, since you without my consent, or do whatever is within your means to help them out? Would it be a fairy tale if you voted to send them help?

Abraham Lincoln: “You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.” Bill Clinton: “Only my enemies won’t believe my lies.” Hillary Clinton: “I am Bill’s friend.”

“Why is it all of a sudden bad for the Presidential hopeful’s spouse to be doing some campaiging for the nominee?”
I have no problem with a spouse campaigning, but the kind of mud slinging Bill Clinton has gotten into lately has made me lost respect for Mr. Clinton. I really thought he was more of a unifying force for Democrats than just a mud-slinging hack. And I say this as someone who was a HUGE fan of Mr. Clinton. It’s distressing to me (someone who is undecided in this race) to watch a Democrat I admire stoop to the kind of smears he’s been making against Obama. He is damaging the Democratic Party with these attacks. I would be happy to support Hillary for President (or Barack), but this negativity, which I see as coming mostly from the Clintons at this point, could undermine our efforts against the Republicans in the fall, and that’s why I want Bill Clinton to put a lid on it and be more respectful to his opponent.

Consider the problems ahead
The ones put in place by George and company
Creating economic disaster from surplus
Creating war from peace
Taking rights from freedom
Turning green off
Simply put causing death and destruction and much bad will
And all the repercussions. Who will deal with this?
There’s no doubt Hillary has the greater will, the greater intellect and the greater experience to solve these problems
You all better start believing in a “hard headed woman” over a “fancy dancer”
If a white male or white female candidate held up Ronald Reagan as a paradigm of anything other than racism and disastrous economics, he/she would be slammed
We don’t need another uniter not divider
We need a doer
Hillary and her vice John Edwards could get the important jobs done and hold onto the White House.
Don’t lose sight of the disaster of a one term demp pres

You know the fact is this Obama I think is scared he dose not have a snowballs chance in hell of being elected and he knows this, now I will give it to you that not all of President Clintons words are exactly true but the fact remains his lies have NEVER killed anyone like Bush has, also you have to be honest when he was president our economy was the best in the history of the world ever, gas prices were down, we were friends with other nations, people had jobs, and money to spend, we did not have to worry about our homes being forclosed on, we had a more than balanced budget, infact we had a very large surplus, so dont go crying about Bill and a few TRUE statements about Obama , the fact is thie media and most all news stations want him as president we need some one who is in it not just to make history like he is but we need someone who is passionate about this country and cares for the working and lower class families, Obama said himself that ” he will not run the goverment he will leave that for someone else” that is part of the job as president, no matter what you think, Mrs Clinton would be a great president maybe not as good as Bill but pretty close, and I think the best ticke would be Clinton-Obama wow that would be awesome, so to all of you out there quit makeing this a race/gender issue and think of what is best for this country and who is more qualifyed with the mose experence, maybe this country IS ready for a woman president maybe not but lets not judge her till she gets in if she gets in give her a chance.

I am glad we finally saw the true Obama today. The angry black man running to be the first Black President calling on the Black American population to get him there. Make no mistake, it will only get more racial, again from his camp, as these months march on. Iowa must be in total shock. Those silly people abandoned Biden & Dodd, the 2 most experianced candidates to vote for the New face, the New voice, the man of CHANGE who told us all the New color was purple. That we’d no longer be red or blue states in his kingdom. We would have no divisions of color, we’d have no separation of races. No, no, never, not him. Pah-leez. Here’s your change. vote for Obama, & pray alot because this is NOT an honest man. He is full of double standards & dishonesty. I saw him for what he was day 1, but I sure feel sorry for all of you who bought into his “dream”, who misplaced their “hope” & sadly, who trusted him to be true to ALL Americans, not just those with skin the color of his. We deserve to dream & hope. We deserve the America he played lip service to in order to get himself a better job in Washington. It angers me to have anyone crap on my hopes & dreams but I’m glad we have the opportunity to witness this now & not Jan 09.

Reading all these posts just reminds of someone who built a house and then try to pull it down.
If anyone of you really think that the Democrats can win in November without the black vote, that person is an idiot. Even more naive is to believe that the Democrats will win in November regardless of who it presents as the norminee.
I have yet to see this much division in this party for along time. Sadly people are too stupid to pull back from the brink.

If you people are harping on these little tiddlywinks that Bill brings up about Obama, imagine what the Republicans will bring up in the fall. They WILL bring up his cocaine use, his fence-sitting “present votes” in the Illinois state Senate, his suspicious real estate dealings with an indicted political operative, his lack of leadership in the NATO subcommittee he chairs, his vote for Cheney’s self-serving energy policy, and the fact he only served a little over a year in the Senate before deciding to run for president. You people gasp if just a smidge of these things are mentioned by fellow Democrats, but Republicans will skewer him in the fall. Obama is definitely a good man, and I will happily vote for him in ten years after he’s proven to me that he can do more than just give a good speech.

Posted by: Carmen | January 20, 2008, 5:43 pm 5:43 pm

I am thrilled that Bill is getting all the facts out, I am liking how he does it. He is defending his wife and his own record. Obama is truely living in a fairy tale to think no one would question his record. I am more qualified to run the highest office in this land then he is, just by saying he has no intention of running the government, he would let his people do that, plus I am organized. He looks at how Hillary is talking and he is taking notes. B.O. is just not ready for this promotion. Hillary knew last election she needed more experience before running for the most difficult job in this world. Yes, Bill is making a lot of noise and it is GREAT!!! Keep it up Bill. She is worth it!!!

I think it’s time that Obama packed his bags and just went back home. I don’t see how he thinks he stands a chance of winning against Hillary. As far as the November elections. Republicans have got a screw loose if they think they stand a chance against the Democratic nomination (Hillary). America is ready for change and another Republican is NOT change. Hillary is change. Hillary will happen. People just need to understand that America is ready for a woman in the white house. We are behind the times. With Hillary (and Bill) in the white house maybe we can undo the mess that Bush has made. Obama is just whining that Hillary’s husband knows the system and know’s what it takes to be the president. Obama is CLUELESS and america will soon learn that Hillary is the only way to go.

It’s also troubling that the first viable woman candidate for the presidency has to rely on her husband to strong arm her opponents, reporters, voters, and democratic officials. Whatever happened to “W O M A N” & “I am woman hear me roar?”- Here it is 2008 and we are getting-
“Help,” “Helpless’” and “Trouble’s back in town.”

Are you kidding me, do you really think this country is really going to elect a black president…if anyone has a shot is Hillary and even that is a long shot as she is a woman. You can blame the Clintons for whatever but at the end of the day is the unspoken racism in this country that will do him in..just watch and see.

Dumping on Clinton just shows how not ready for prime time Obama is. He is a whining brat who thinks he’s entitled because he seems himself as the great white (black) hope. Clinton is the best thing the Democratic party has and if he sits this one out if Obama gets the nomination, we are all in trouble. He can rally the dems, independents and every thinking person to oppose the Repubs.
Obama claims he wants to be bipartisian — I guess that means for the Repubs, not for his fellow dems. This should be obvious — he is not a peacemaker and if he was he’d be talking about himself and not Clinton. He is a poser. He should go write another biography of himself to add to the three has already and he’s only in his mid fifties.

Posted by: stve | January 20, 2008, 5:46 pm 5:46 pm

Obama needs to do this.
Someone needs to curtail Bill Clinton; he is campaigning for his wife, but as former president, this is unprecedented. He shows Hillary to be in need of a defender, even as she represents the “old guard.”
Obama is the better choice; but he is fighting two candidates in Clinton. He is the candidate for change, for ending division; Clinton is guaranteed to unite the Republicans and keep the nation polarized.
Our best hope as a nation is to elect Obama.

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH: Both spouses for both candidates make comments to support their husband or wife, and Michelle is definitely no angel when it comes to pandering. Read this article about Michelle Obama “Daring to Touch the Third Rail [i.e., race]” by Newsweek and insert “White” where you read “African American” or “Black” in her own comments. Then ask yourselves, “Who is really implanting the race card?”

Gordo, You Got It Right! Thank goodness there are people who know this game. You cannot be naive and throw this away for a dream of high ideals; as if all we Democrats don’t have them. We know what we stand for; but against the Republicans it is war. It’s not all “let’s just all be friends.” It is a struggle for power! Obama has not been tested and he will walk into all the Republican mines. I can practically set up the Republican strategies for them against Obama. Wake up Democrats! Obama is not ready. As for all those other comments from Clinton haters, they are either Republican’s in Democrat clothing, they are people who are hung up on the “sex scandal” as if it had anything to do with us, or they are people who don’t know…..The Republicans aren’t helping Obama ’cause they’re on our side, they’re against Democrats. Wake up! Face it! I understand your wanting to stick to that dream, but this is not the time, we can’t afford it with a novis.

Every Republican will beat Hillary, with the possible exception of one: Rudy Giuliani. His family domestic dramas play into his public life almost as much as Hill and Bill’s.
What the Clintons fail to recognize about Democratic and Independent and Republican voters is that while there is plenty to do to rectify the failures of the Bush administration, Americans appreciate that George and Laura’s domestic life has never made front page news.

Are you worried at all that Bill will “crack” like he did during the Starr investigation and again “act out” inappropriately. Don’t you think that this could mean we have a Romney or such in the White House? Remember, as reported in the NYT, Bill claimed that Starr’s investigation caused him to “act out” with Monica. And the NYT also reported that Hillary claimed that Bill’s actions were a result of pyschic damage when he was four years old. I have seen Bill losing it on the campaign trail; it will only get worse as stress of the campaign continues. There is a great risk that he will have worse outbursts and will likely “act out” again in some other inappropriate manner. Can the Democratic Party afford to take this HUGE risk with the Clintons? It could well mean a GOP victory in November if even a whiff of such a scandal surfaces and the whole drama is re-enacted. The independents and much of the rest of the public will recoil and the GOP will be the victors. Don’t you think that Obama is the only viable way to avoid this mess?

If Bill was not going all over the place the talk from Obama would be the Bill has deserted her, or that Bill does not have confidence in her attempts to become the first woman president. Look people, read the comments and see if you can figure out the Democrats from the Republicans who like to interject with their agendas. See if you can figure out who the real Democrats are in arguing our case for Obama or Clinton. You need to realize there are plants as well who like to bait and get a feel of the people’s way of thinking, that’s normal and fair, but there are also baiters who are trying to divide the Democrats (divide and conquer). Trip yourself out. Don’t let yourself be fooled. LEARN….

He will spend his time answering about his Muslim biological father and his Muslim stepfather and his schooling in a Muslim country. They will paint this rookie with so wide a paintbrush that you would think he would name Bin Laden as his Secretary of State, and Louis Farrican and Sharpton as his chief advisors.

One bright spot in this otherwise depressing and discouraging Democratic campaign season is the voter turnout so far. It’s great to see Americans taking part (in large numbers) in their states’ caucuses and primaries.
Of course all the voters are chopped up into categories–Whites, Hispanics, African Americans, women, men, women over 50, voters between the ages of 18-30, Evangelicals, Catholics, Jews, those who make less that 25,000, more than 100K, those with a high school education, college education, doctors, lawyers, merchants, chiefs, etc., etc., etc. As Mark Penn, Clinton’s “pollster and campaign consultant” shares: There isn’t one America, there’s 100 Americas. Great.
Reminds me of the 30 minute conversation I had with one of Clinton’s pollster’s back in the summer in NH. Would I feel “not at all favorable,” “somewhat more favorable,” “more favorable,” “much more favorable” about Hillary Clinton after hearing her stance on: health care, social security, the war in Iraq, education, the economy, etc., etc. Which of the follow celebrities did I have favorable opinions of? I must admit I didn’t recognize many of the names. I’m not up on pop culture — couldn’t help much there.
And after a couple of questions back to this question: If you were voting in the NH primary today, would you vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama; then Hillary Clinton or John Edwards? More “not at all favorable,” “somewhat favorable,” etc. – Back to “Hillary Clinton or Barck Obama?” “Hillary Clinton or John Edward?”
I never got any pollsters calling me from the Obama, Edwards, Dodd, Biden, or Kucinich campaigns. I guess they must have tried to figure it out for themselves. Too bad for them, looks like the slicing and dicing of the American electorate is THE way to win elections. So much for wanting to make a difference. So much for finding the common ground. Divided we stand.

First, this is an election and you use your assets. Bill Clinton is an asset. Obama is not that innocent. Listen to him, he is condescending. Also, the media is playing heavy favorites. Hillary Clinton is criticized and scrutinized. Nothing is said about Obama’s record at all, why, because he has no record. Everyone is treating him softly. He’ll never unite the country.

Posted by: Eve | January 20, 2008, 6:08 pm 6:08 pm

Wow after 7 years of Junior I felt sure that there was nothing the Democrats could do to lose the election of 2008. Years of Republican controlled government lead to tax cuts for the wealthiest 1%, home foreclosure at an all time high, corporation starting to lay-off workers by the thousands and I didn’t even start with the war. But somehow the Dems will do it. They will hand the election over to the Republicans, again.
I as a old African American woman was torn between Obama and Hillary. After Iowa I was still somewhat torn but after watching the Bill/Hillary show I would NEVER under ANY circumstance vote for her. I voted for Bill twice but Hillary? No way!. I expected the Republicans to play the race card, after all race baiting politics is what the are good at but I did not expect to see it in a Democratic candidate. I expected Republicans to play the Al Qaeda card. It’s how they controlled power for so long, they needed Americans to be afraid but Hillary plays the Al Qaeda card was too much for me. I understand that Hillary was shocked by her Iowa loss but to use surrogates to play dirty politics while trying to appear that she had nothing to do with it is insulting. Robert Johnson, BET founder was the straw that broke the camels back. Republicans and a lot of independents hate Hillary and by the time she and Bill get done that African American guaranteed vote will be split which will leave her with not much to work with. Face it folks, McCain will win the Republican nomination and Hillary as the Democratic nominee will send Republicans to the polls in great numbers. We wont be discussing the complete failure of the Bush years. The topic will be Bill, Hillary, scandal, sex, corruption, Sandy Berger, Marc Rich, Clinton’s brother and all of other crap from the 1990′s. Waiting for Clinton’s prosperity years? Sorry but you will never see them again, at least not by anyone with the name Clinton.

Face it…there is nothing more. We know it all and the Republicans will really have to be clever in trumping up some new accusations. Obama, however, is FRESH MEAT. That’s why they (Repubs) were doing damage control for him this morning. Wake up! You can go round and round with the same arguments on why you’re against the Clintons. Bottom line, they’re an open book, and the Republicans are desperately trying to keep from running against a Clinton.

Reagan as agent of change; Bill Clinton not an agent of change: I don’t know if that is smart politics or not, but it is accurate.
“Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not,” Obama said in a video on the Gazette Journal’s website.
I don’t know if that is smart politics or not, but it is accurate.
I think Michael Goodwin may have been the first to write about Hillary’s experience claim. John F. Harris, Maureen Dowd, and others also touch on this factor. However, they are just describing the peak of the iceberg.
Hillary Clinton is On the Ropes (Michael Goodwin, New York Daily News)
“The nostalgia for the ’90s, a move for a restoration of the Clinton presidency, isn’t a persuasive rationale. The flaw was on display in her speech – surrounded by Bill and some of his old aides, she was a tableau of the past, not the future.”
“She needs to come out from behind Bubba and the barricades and the imperial court of handlers who create a bubble.”
Hillary and Bill Clinton’s time in the White house was during a much different, much easier time in our country’s history than the next eight years will be.
I think the voters realize that Hillary’s claim to experience was that she had only some experience and that it was during that much different, much easier period.
It is not all that relevant to the difficult next eight years. Her time has come and gone.
I think that voters are seeing Bill Clinton as someone who rode the wave, not as someone who actively created the good times. The more I read and think about Bill, the more I see him as someone who wasted a fabulous opportunity to help the people of this country.
I think that is underlying Hillary’s drop in the polls and the loss in Iowa. If that is correct, I don’t see how she can regain the lead without a very negative attack on Obama. I think that having Bill on the campaign trail was the cause of her decline. It made her look like his puppet, reminded people of Bill’s failings to seize the fabulous opportunity, and reinforced the opinion that she was of the past that was much different than the present.
If this is correct, Bill’s taking over her campaign will only make matters worse for Hillary. Sharp attacks by both of them against Obama will also reinforce the differences between the two candidates.

Posted by: pjonathan | January 20, 2008, 6:15 pm 6:15 pm

Many democrats I know will not vote for Hillary if she gets nominated. Indeed, now that G. Bush is out of the way, some of the republican candidates may get a fresh look, McCain for example; stay home is also an option…unless of course Obama gets nominated, which is the only chance Dems have this year, and the only chance for a meaningful change of huge proportions this country badly needs.

Posted by: chomsky | January 20, 2008, 6:16 pm 6:16 pm

I think someone should write a book about Bill Clinton’s role in Hillary’s campaign. Maybe call it “Third Term”.
I think his campaign is the best story of the 2008 election. News articles, editorials, Op-Ed pieces and blogs are full of Bill. If you started researching now and started with only web searches you would probably need a year full time to get everything before some of it disappears from the web.
I agree with George Will’s comment: “Speaking of the boomers’ inexhaustible fascination with themselves, Bill Clinton has transformed his wife’s campaign into his narcissism tour. As the New York Times dryly described a New Hampshire appearance the day after her Iowa rejection: “He talked about his administration, his foundation work and some about his wife.”"
However, it talks only about tactical campaigning. There is something of more concern.
Running to redeem a father and now, a husband, is a story worth writing.
Much has been written about George W running to redeem his father’s “failure” to “go to Bagdad”.
Some has been written this time around about Senator Dodd running to redeem his father’s failure-ethical lapses- and Governor Romney running to redeem his father’s failure-his brainwashing comments.
The press has been nibbling around the edges of Hillary running to redeem Bill and herself. That story, however, is the most intriguing of the bunch.
In addition, an article written about all of these “redemption” runs would probably convince us that voters should never vote for a presidential candidate who is related to a president or presidential candidate. I think with just my information it is fair to say that redemption runs lead to poor judgment in the political decisions of a campaign and in presidential decisions, clouding both. An experienced political writer or writers would be able to fully research and present clearly the results of that research.
I think that Hillary Clinton would still be leading if Bill Clinton had been kept in the background. What I am seeing and what I believe the press is starting to report is that Hillary’s race is all about Bill redeeming Bill and Bill’s legacy and Hillary redeeming Bill, Bill’s legacy, and Hillary’s legacy. Obama and Edwards have been clearly stating for a long time that their presidential race is about America or about the middle class or about the other America, not about them. Hillary in NH is just starting to say that her race is not about her. But she just said that the race for her is very personal, suggesting policy but in reality much more telling.

Surrogates making arguments for their candidate to win, too much for you people? Wow, Obama’s supporters, you need to get with the game! This is the world of politics. Not pretty is it. You will never be able to come in and be all butterflies and rainbows, have the other side help you out and then let reality hit you. Toughen up kids, this is a fight for power. Power that needs to be taken away from the harsh, relentless Republican machine.

Never in my life did I think I would see Democrats, who appear to support someone other than Senator Obama, use racism and garbage rhetoric to bash a fellow Democrat. Some of you need read your comments and truly rethink whether being a Democrat is right for you. Regardless of your support for a candidate, using middle names to stir up fear, or belittle someone because of their perceived lack of experience, make accusations and distort documented stances on specific issue, these are all tactics we have seen before. Usually However, they are coming from the other side of the battlefield. Regardless, I believe we need a Democrat this election, it would be a shame to leave my party and join the fastest growing political party ( I ) due to my party’s own ability to be respectful and rise above the Karl Rove strategies and beltway bickering…

Obama supporters are desparate, trying to use Bill Clinton as a news-cycle red herring – Let’s face it: American’s just aren’t going to vote for a black man. As someone who has traveled the country back and forth, my heart tells me that we have to accept it – the country just isn’t ready yet. Maybe in 8 years? How about a Clinton/Obama ticket?

Posted by: Wake Up Democrats | January 20, 2008, 6:20 pm 6:20 pm

Wow is all I have to say.
Hillary is relying on her former President husband to get elected. 35 years of experience with the help of Bill. Clintons have already been in the white house for 8 years and that is quite long enough.
It’s time for someone new to make a change!

Posted by: Liz | January 20, 2008, 6:20 pm 6:20 pm

I completely agree with what I have read so far,the Republican party can’t wait to tear Obama apart if he wins the democratic nomination, that is why they have been defending him on all of the major political news networks. The republican party knows that an unexperienced candidate, such as Obama, cannot compete with McCain,Romney,or even Huckabee in a one on one debate in the fall.Hillary is clearly the most qualified to take on the GOP nominee in any debate,no matter who she goes up against.Bill Clinton was a great president, but Hillary can hold her own.Don’t take the Republican bait, vote for Hillary in 2008!!!

Posted by: hillaryfan2008 | January 20, 2008, 6:21 pm 6:21 pm

Some of us call Hillary Billary and its now very clear why! Bill’s really setting his wife up for a Reptile take down by getting up in front of her during this. He has to allow her to stand or fall on her own or its going to create a really sticky situation come Nov.

OK – Give us a break
Obama has been playing the race card since day one – And he has tried to keep it under wraps – but now Hillary has called him out -
Barack needs about 10 years of experience in elective office to give it another try -

Hillary Clinton could not beat ONE of the GOP candidates. Not one! She has way too much baggage and is an extremely polarizing, villainous person who happens to be female..
WOMEN!!!!
Do NOT feel obligated to vote for her to get a female in office, our time WILL come! But please, not her….

Why is there no place on this blog where you can report abuse posts. I am sick to my stomach reading these posts, with all the racial slurs. A lot of other blogs have places where you can report abuse. It is so sad that there are still people who think like this. Hillary and Bill are the past – do we really want two family dynasties running the company for close to 30 years? Now is our chance to put a transformational president into the White House. You have to remember – Bill rode the wave of the technology/Internet boom and got to claim the rewards. I voted for him twice, and now I wish I could have taken it back. If Bill and Hillary are the nominees in the fall, I will sit home or HOPEFULLY vote Bloomberg. I will have no choice because I am just sick of the same old politics. My choice for 2008 is Obama.

Posted by: Erick J | January 20, 2008, 6:28 pm 6:28 pm

I don’t question Obama’s motives for wanting to lead America. He is a Democrat and I know what the party stands for. However, I am a Hillary supporter because I know where she stands on Children issues. I have read her books and I have read Bill’s as well. I know their philosophy is one in which they believe in helping those who need it most. Anything else in your opinion which is a personal attack, is purely based on your personal perception of things. I was a little shakey on Clinton’s ability to win this time around after what I witnessed from the right wing. Yet, as soon as I noticed Mathews, Russert, Dawd, Will and the regular Republican leaners promoting Obama….red flags went up. You have to have been around a while to know. They are getting wise to us knowing so there will be a curve soon. Just keep paying attention….

I liked Obama very much when I first saw him as a newly elected senator. I thought that if he would work hard and distinguish himself he could be really something. However, the work hard and distinguish himself part he decided to skip. Apparently, all the praise he got went straight into his head. It is very obvious that his candidacy is being used to divide the Democrats. He can’t do wrong with the corporate media now, but if he would win the nomination they would sink him like rock. Very clever, I only hope that democrats are not stupid enough to buy it. Unfortunately, Obama’s candidacy at this time is nothing more than a fairy tail.
Of course I support Clintons. I want to see a Democrat in the White House and I think that Hillary is fully capable of getting there and doing a great job while she is there. As far as I am concerned, she is offering a real change and not a pie in a sky.

In Hillary’s loss in Nevada (Hillary:12 delegates, Obama:13 delegates!!), she outpolled Obama by 13 percentage points among women–out of every eight women, she got four, Obama got three, and edwards got one. Where she really beat Obama was among the blind–people blind to the fact that Hillary beats only two of the five main GOP candidates in the polls—people blind to the sleazy, 1990′s style politics that will sink the rest of the party in November if she’s nominated (congressional candidates, etc)—and people blind to the pathetic buffoon that Bill Clinton has become. Also, I understand that she won the undereducated vote. From the Hillary-corp lap-dogs I see posting above, I can believe it.

Too bad Mr. Obama, deal with it. Mr. Clinton is a huge asset, lucky for his wife. Had Mr Gore used him in the last election, we would not be in the present mess we now find ourselves in.
One quick question,if African Americans say something unfavorable about Hillary Clinton, are they considered racist?

Posted by: jetro | January 20, 2008, 6:38 pm 6:38 pm

People, don’t read the racist and sexist junk as arguments from real supporters, they’re not! They are baiting Democrats into division. It’s a tactic…don’t take the bait. Divide and conquer has always been the Republican strategy because the vast majority of people who understand economics and how it affects them, would never support a Republican. Filthy tactics is all they have. People who are too immature, also have a tendency to use low class arguments. They need to mature.

Bill Clinton risks bringing disrepute on his image as a former president. He is belittling himself. One wonders why is is coming so unglued at times. Does he see Hillary’s campaign as, in effect, his own campaign for a “third term”?

speaking as an outsider-I’ve spent only 10 years here in the States- regarding Hillary Clinton, what the most of people here have not realized is that, you can say how you want to, but the only thing she really has on her resume is “being the first lady” and last time I saw something like this happened was when I was traveling through 3rd world countries.I thought WHAT MAKES AMERICA AMERICA was AMERICA DOES NOT DO DYNASTY, am I wrong, or am I wrong!?!?

Bill Clinton has damaged his legacy with the way he’s been behaving lately. Anyone who says he hasn’t distorted Obama’s words about his Iraq war position or Ronald Reagan is either willfully ignorant or flat out lying. Obama said the GOP was the party of ideas for the last 10-15 years (which is true, by the way, and I say that as a loyal Democrat who voted for Bill Clinton twice and Gore and Kerry). Obama did not say Reagan’s ideas were BETTER ideas, which is what both Hillary and Bill claimed Obama said.
As a result of all of this, I won’t vote for Hillary in the fall if she’s the nominee. And Bill is the most unclassy ex president I’ve ever seen. Say what you will about GHW Bush (and I’ve said plenty bad about him) at least he didn’t put his nose into his son’s campaign; he let his son run on his own merits (or lack thereof). Bill Clinton, with every meltdown and lie, is showing America that he doesn’t believe his wife can win on her own merits.

I am happy that Obama is taking on Bill Clinton. It is time for the male Clinton to retire to his library in Arkansas.
If his wife — that woman, Hillary Clinton — has the 35 years of experience she claims, she is perfectly capable of standing on her own two feet and running her own campaign.
But she doesn’t have the experience, she’s not capable, and can’t stand on her own record.

Posted by: Jade7243 | January 20, 2008, 8:02 pm 8:02 pm

What is Obama standing on? He has no record.

Posted by: ad | January 20, 2008, 8:05 pm 8:05 pm

We know now that Obama is not fan of President Clinton and that he really loves RONALD REAGAN, he’s playing a really risky strategy just to try to buy in the so called Reagan Democrats, the fact is that he can’t have it both ways.
Now once again, Obama is crying out loud again, since when this guy is the messenger of the truth? He needs to start opens up his dealings in Chicago and Illinois, his lies about being the one and untouchable of any criticism. He probably thought that running for President was a picnic and got used to the friendly press that never questioned his record or actions. This guy is crating a division in the Democratic party just for his own ambition to become a President of the US based only in promises. He is playing with people desperation and hopes. He is always playing the race card or the victim and some of us are getting tired is his charade. When the press is going to give us a break and start giving the other candidates front page, this guy goes to the bathroom and that will be a front page, what a despicable biased of the press. Where is the coverage for Edwards???? even in Hillary all the press talk is negative about her or her campaign. We need some balanced coverage.

Obama is in trouble to start this nonsense. He has to walk a tight rope here too. Hillary tries hard to AVOID making bill her ‘ace in the hole’ which is what this is really about of course. Obama cant BLAST Bill , because he NEEDS the Clinton legacy to hit the republicans over the head with during the general election.
Once we figure out who the candidate is going to be, then we can get back to admiring how much better things were during the clinton years than this 8 years of crap from the Bush administration.

After former president Clinton’s unprecidented behavior – no other former president has come out so vociferously against other political opponents like Bill agains Barack – it makes me wonder what we can expect from president Hillary Clinton. Will she be so timid as to send out her attack dogs, like Bill and other members of the DNC and DLCC establishment? Why does Hillary’s campaign continue to employ “Swift Boat” tactics – just like the same type pointed against John Kerry during 2004? (Most recent examples were the contineud focus on race, “blackness” of Barack Obama, and the self-indulgent wrapping of the manlte of Lyndon Johnson around her shoulders in refernece to the Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King.
If Mrs. Clinton has NO CONTROL over actions of others, including her husband and ex-president, in the campaign, what can we expect from her if she should be elected President? At no point has Mrs. Clinton stepped forth and said, “Anyone who is involved in ssmear tactics and devisive behavior, will be FIRED.” Hmm, sounds much like George W Bush and Plamegate scandal.
With all of this “experience” being bantered about, the conduct of Hillary the CEO of the Campaign looks more like the inmates running the insane asylum.

Bill and Hillary are two of the most dishonest and shallow people who have been in politics, not counting the Bush family back to Prescott. I guess people forget how “clueless” Hillary was when asked by Congress on “Travelgate”, “Filegate”, “Chinagate” and Vince Foster. Yet, she would have you believe now that that “cluelessness” was in fact “experience” which qualifies her to be President. What is it? Did she make decisions and participate, or was she just clueless? I for one don’t buy it. She changed her middle name to not draw attention to her heritage. She was left of left in the 60′s leaning marxist. She is wealth due to fraud the least of which was her instant $100,000 cattle future profit while in Arkansaw. Each person here who has professed loyalty to the Clintons shocks me.

Let’s see. When Bill left office in disgrace the Democrats lost control of the Senate, House and majority of State Houses. He had the happy accident of being in office during the Internet Boom and took credit for an economy he hand no hand in creating. He was NEVER elected by a majority of American voters and may owe his entire career to Ross Perot. Someone tell me why the media falls all over themselves calling him a political genius.
If Mrs. Bill Clinton wants to meet Obama in an election, how about coming out from behind Bill and running a one on one election? That’s the problem. She can’t. Come on out and play Mrs. Bill Clinton. Let’s see if you have any game with Bill back home tending the fireplace.

In a recent debate Obama said that he did not want his staff to hand him over any paper (note ) just 2 seconds before. I am done trying to defend the Clintons. I did that all through the 90′s to my republican friends who thought Bill demeaned the office of the president with his lies and disgusting personal conduct. Well, now I am the one who is disgusted by his lies. I watch Obama make a speech and then watch Bill blatently twist his words and misquote him. Those who aren’t paying attention don’t even know what Bill is saying is BS, they take him at his word. This is embarassing for a former president. Bill Clinton should put more thought into what his actions are doing to the party. He is weakening the party due to his and his wife’s ego. Enough already. Please just stop and let your wife fight her own battles.

As an Obama supporter, I feel vindicated. One of the most unseemly and under-reported characteristics of this race so far is having the titular head of the Democratic Party actively campaigning in a Democratic Primary for one candidate over another. It’s a recipe for splitting the party in two. It’s a scorched earth policy that leaves me gasping at its arrogance.
I supported Bill during his impeachment, much to the chagrin of many of my conservative friends who always said I wore “blinders” when dealing with the Clinton matter. I suppose, in retrospect, I did. No longer! I see quite well what a disgrace Bill is, and the lengths to which he will go to regain the white house. “2 for the price of 1″ as Hillary would say. So, do we have a co-presidency in the works? Will Bill be Hillary’s vice president? Perhaps she will deploy Bill to Iraq to be the new Proconsul. Who knows. Considering the dynastic trend we’ve been seeing: Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton, maybe we should just scrap the constitution and establish a hereditary monarchy: The House of Clinton and the House of Bush.
I’m thrilled that Obama is finally bringing this matter to the full attention of the American Public. It will knock him off message for 48 hours, but so be it. If he can kick the bully out of the schoolyard, than the American people can witness a debate between Hillary and Obama, and not the spectacle of a popular former President of the United States attacking a respected, well liked, charismatic member of his own party.

Posted by: ChrisNBama | January 20, 2008, 10:03 pm 10:03 pm

Originally, the Clintons wanted to wait until after the convention for Bill to come out. The fact he has to come out with an outrageous and inflammatory statement on election day in NH and NV shows one thing:
True Desperation.
I don’t recall him campaigning like this for Al Gore in 2000, or at the Supreme Court…
Experience? The Clintons won’t even release the papers saying what Hillary DID in the White House! Furthermore, Obama has been a legislator longer than Clinton (11 years to 7).
How could Hillary pass anything? Does anyone seriously believe she could get anything past a republican filibuster? Probably the only candidates who could pass a law are McCain and Obama.
This is one chance in a generation to have a fresh start…to not go backwards. It’s 1968 again, and I’m afraid we’re gonna end up with another Nixon.

President Clinton, like any American citizen, like Oprah, like Mrs. Obama, has the right to speak and campaign for anyone he wants. If Obama cannot take this little bit of heat, what would he be like if he had to face the Republican slime machine in the fall? Bill and Hillary have taken on those smear-merchants for over 15 years and have withstood every malicious attack. Mr. Obama, come back to us in eight years and show us what you have accomplished in the Senate in that time period.

There’s something unseemly about an ex-President of the U.S. wallowing in the mud of a campaign. The other candidates spouses are not ex-presidents with the influence that position carries. As bad as Dubya is, his daddy wasn’t following him around to ward off detractors. Obama would do well to question the Clinton tactic of gang banging his attempt to lift our image abroad, at home and within ourselves and to enlist all of us to help solve the enormous problems of our future. We need hope and vision, not more hate and fear. Obama’s time is now and so can it be ours.

Obama should be directing his whining at Hillary not her surrogates. In the general election, would he be responding to the attack dog tactics of the opposition’s VP candidate? Americans don’t want a crybaby for their president. He should put himself above the bickering. With the breath he wasted on his hissy fit he could have gave us some specifics on his proposals. Oh wait, he doesn’t have any specifics. No wonder he has to use these distractions.
So what next, another love letter to Ronald Reagan? Perhaps it is time for Obama to switch parties. I hear the Republicans are looking for a candidate. He would be more comfortable over there.

If Barrack is a smart poltician – and politician he is contrary to all the rhetoric – then he would make real peace with Clintons. Similarly Hillary is better off making real peace with Obama. There is a chance that they could be on the same ticket. But attacking Clintons or praising Regan in a out of context manner is not the way to do this. This would be destruction for all concerned. There are bloggers here who are paid by some camp – who post some of the most hatred blogs on both of them. Be aware of such low life because I dont think a patriotic republican or patriotic democrat regardless of their choice of candidate would post blogs of disgusting personal attacks

Do you want this man to lead the nation or Hillary whose response was simply that she was ready to lead from day 1.”
But it isn’t necessary for a President to run schedules properly. That’s why a President has a “Chief of Staff”, and a coterie of secretaries. The proper role of a President is to set an agenda, and communicate that agenda to the American people. The people he places to lead his administration then set out to accomplish that agenda. The last President who was also a technocrat was Jimmy Carter, and his attempts to micromanage all aspects of his Administration led to the lackluster results of his Presidency.
But if competence is your thing, then look no further than Obama’s own campaign. He has raised alot of money, and that money has been wisely spent. He has managed to run a clean and efficient campaign, that not only includes his inner circle, but also his surrogates. How often has Hillary’s campaign had to fire or reign in unruly staff and surrogates due to improper attacks on her opponent? Then ask yourself, how many people has Obama had to fire or reign in for acting improperly?
As Jesus would say, “You judge a tree by it’s fruit”. Obama’s campaign has been run flawlessly. Therefore, this issue of management is moot. You are simply regurgitating discredited talking points.

Obama needs to remember that he is not running against Bill. Focus on the issues that will get you the vote and leave Bill alone. He will get worn out thinking day and night how to attach him and this is a well calculated move by Bill to derail him. Obama, wake up, the ready for the heat.

Wow. President Clinton isn’t your average “American citizen”. Nor is he like Oprah. Oprah is not a politician. She’s a talk show host who happens to support Obama for President. President Clinton is the elder statesman of the Democratic Party. Although this isn’t a precise comparison, I will make it nonetheless. Howard Dean is the chair of the DNC. As an “American citizen”, he has the right to support any candidate he chooses. Should the DNC chair be out campaigning during the democratic primary for his choice for President? Do you sense a conflict of interest? In like manner, Bill Clinton is the DEMOCRATIC FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. It is improper for him to enter the fray of intra-mural politics in this way. There isn’t precedent for this sort of behavior, and it is unseemly and inappropriate. If you read the news, you will see many reports of pressure from the DNC and from stalwarts of the Democratic movement: Ted Kennedy and Rahm Emmanuel cautioning Bill to tone down the attacks.
Mrs. Obama has been out front campaigning for her husband, but only in the sense of acting as a witness and providing testimony to the character of her husband. That is all well and good. She isn’t out there attacking Hillary, misrepresenting her policies, or distorting her words. Even if she were doing those things, it wouldn’t be improper in the same way as it is with President Clinton doing those things. I hope you see the distinction.

I cannot understand why people insist on saying that Barack is inexperienced or that Hillary is experienced. Hillary’s experience is tied to Bill’s time in office as governor and President. It is like saying that a football coach’s wife could take the reins when he retires, she’s been around during the games, understands play calling, has hosted events for the team, helped with recruits or draft picks, etc. How idiotic is that? Next time I make an appointment with my doctor, I’ll ask for his/her spouse instead. Hillary is not anymore ready for day 1 than anyone else as she claims. Additionally there are many republicans willing to cross the line to vote for Barack, but not for Hillary. We need to move away from the negative politics of the agricultural and industrial age and move towards the newer more improved version for the information age. A leader is defined as someone who can motivate, lead, delegate, unify others to follow for a common cause. Leaders have a vision for what the future holds and how to get there. That person is Barack Obama!!!
I also want to ask the Hillary supporters, if she couldn’t deliver on universal healthcare in the 90′s when she was given this opportunity by Bill in his administration, how is she going to do it now? She keeps talking about how she has brought about change–when, where, what law did she pass??? It seems like she is a lot of rhetoric.
Thank you Barack for giving us Hope, Unity, Optimism and someone with whom we can believe in and move into this next era. You are what this country and world need to heal and move beyond our destructive ways.

Obama is an amazing statesman. He speaks the truth calmly and clearly without deriding his opponents. Meanwhile, the Clintons with all their years of so called experience can not manage to keep themselves from a constant drama of lies and scandal. Its as if the Clinton’s and their supporters are aiming for reincarnation of G W Bush regime.

Think about it. With the exception of C-Span 1 & C-Span 2, we have been subjected to Obama worship with no scrutiny by CNN, MSNBC, and a little less from Fox for weeks, if not months. I rarely make it through more of a minute before I flip the channel. Hope they all lose their contracts, and MediaMatters gets them all fired ultimately. Yet, there propagand isn’t working completely. If Hillary can score victories IN SPITE of mainstream media bashing her at every turn, think about what support she must REALLY have. This is so wonderful and exciting. And do you think they get that people are waging a backlash against their bias, playing us for a bunch of fools? Obama’s Rezco connection, Black racist church, lack of meaningful record, playing the race card and openly vying for independents and Republicans by glorifying Reagan while dissing Democrats means his sense of entitlement must be checked. If mainstream media, those bleeding heart liberals working for far-left and far-right corporate American Repblicans have their way – Obama will be who they run against in November. So, that means we deliver the true agent of change who is a champion for working people. I am absolutely convinced that Obama is not electable, and the country will ensure that Hillary Clinton is elected in Nov ’08. The more they go after the Clintons, the more I support them. Hey folks, Big Brother is the enemy, not the Clintons. My life was much better under Bill Clinton’s watch, and I’m ready for Hillary to take the reins from the Shrub. Wonder how long it will take dimwits to understand that it’s Hillary who is the anti-establishment candidate, not Obaba and Edwards who “yes man” you to death. The good ‘ole boy system is making this “Norma Rae” want to grab a Hillary sign, jump up on a table, and declare liberation and victory for women, minorities, and the shrinking invisible middle-class that is the glue that holds this country together. Clinton ’08

Joe, who signed “Pretty Much Everyone” got it right. Many of us who loved Bill Clinton or supported him even when we didn’t love what he was doing are shocked and disgusted by how mean and petty and relentless Bill is in pursuit of power after having already served TWO TERMS IN OFFICE.
As a white woman in her 40s with a daughter, there is no way I will vote for Hillary Clinton. She is no role model for me. I don’t trust her. She has given up too much integrity to get where she is. The Clintons are tainted goods. All the worst aspects of divisive mudslinging politics are back again, but this time used against a fellow Democrat.
The Republican media would love to have Clinton as the nominee. No doubt about that!
But Barack Obama deserves a fair hearing. Read his books and check out his web site. Listen to his speeches. I have. He is an inspirational person, with dignity, integrity and a true sense of purpose.
The American people will lose if we cannot rise above pettiness and choose for the right reasons the best people who are willing to serve on our behalf.
America is at a significant crossroads at the moment. Divisiveness and mudslinging are not good for the Democratic Party, they’re not good for America. If Bill and his down-trodden wife Hillary are willing to do this to Obama, imagine what it would be like if they got back into the White House.
Wake up and smell the coffee folks, the future of our country is in the balance.

I think this is all sad,
Sad because we in this country have a chance to really change this countries decline. To actually show each other and the world the better side of ourselves
Instead I think this election will either show the world what type of leadership our country needs or what kind of leadership our country deserves. Look at who is appealing to us to unite and who is counting on about divide and conquer, of splitting the “black vote”
or if that fails to discount it by saying “blacks will vote black” so South Carolina wont really mean anything.
This country is really at a precipice and we are looking at the decline and fall of the American Age . We will in the end get the leadership we need . Or because of the lower part of our nature get the leadership we deserve . If that happens, well then America was nice when it lasted. I for one am going to start to make contingency plans to leave .

I’m a supporter of Mr. Obama but I just realized that what I’m mostly tired of is the division and the pain that Mr. Bush has caused. I understand why people are passionate about Mrs. Clinton and I won’t question their judgment. I just have to say that no politician has ever inspired me to act, up until Mr. Obama. I know he’s not perfect, no one is. However, I will no longer be a force for division. I love this country and I want whatever the voters decide is truly best. To Hillary supporters: I wish you and your candidate all the best.

The Clintons are amazing. They’re documented corrupt, no oringinal ideas, vile and not prone to tell the truth. Did I mention racist. Bill Clinton was mentored by J.William Fulbright(major Arkansas bigot). Hillary Clinton was a fervent Goldwater follower.
The “contract with america” was the vehicle used to balance the budget and change welfare, pay as you go.

Posted by: warren | January 21, 2008, 9:42 am 9:42 am

Is Barack Obama’s war position inconsistent?
Senator Barack Obama, then an Illinois state senator, delivered these remarks October 2, 2002 at the Federal Plaza in Chicago:
“I stand before you as someone who is not opposed to war in all circumstances. The Civil War was one of the bloodiest in history, and yet it was only through the crucible of the sword, the sacrifice of multitudes, that we could begin to perfect this union and drive the scourge of slavery from our soil.
I Don’t Oppose All Wars
I don’t oppose all wars. My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton’s army. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil. I don’t oppose all wars. After September 11, after witnessing the carnage and destruction, the dust and the tears, I supported this administration’s pledge to hunt down and root out those who would slaughter innocents in the name of intolerance, and I would willingly take up arms myself to prevent such tragedy from happening again.
Opposed to Dumb, Rash Wars
I don’t oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne. What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income, to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression. That’s what I’m opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics.
On Saddam Hussein
Now let me be clear: I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power…. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him. But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors…and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.
I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences.
I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.
I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars. So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president.
You Want a Fight, President Bush?
You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s finish the fight with Bin Laden and al-Qaeda, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings. You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to make sure that…we vigorously enforce a nonproliferation treaty, and that former enemies and current allies like Russia safeguard and ultimately eliminate their stores of nuclear material, and that nations like Pakistan and India never use the terrible weapons already in their possession, and that the arms merchants in our own country stop feeding the countless wars that rage across the globe. You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to make sure our so-called allies in the Middle East, the Saudis and the Egyptians, stop oppressing their own people, and suppressing dissent, and tolerating corruption and inequality, and mismanaging their economies so that their youth grow up without education, without prospects, without hope, the ready recruits of terrorist cells.
You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to wean ourselves off Middle East oil through an energy policy that doesn’t simply serve the interests of Exxon and Mobil.
Those are the battles that we need to fight. Those are the battles that we willingly join. The battles against ignorance and intolerance. Corruption and greed. Poverty and despair.”
Barack Obama delivered his powerful speech at the Federal Plaza in Chicago October 2, 2002 against the US beginning war in Iraq while later that same month Hillary Clinton voted for the authorization to begin US military action in Iraq. Once US troops were actually in Iraq and fighting a war, of course, it would be irresponsible for Obama to be against funding the troops. The key is that Barack Obama had the judgment to see the dumbness of the war in October 2002 and clearly said so. Hillary Clinton did not and voted to start it.
Bill and Hillary Clinton’s tactic of trying to paint Obama’s war position as “a fairy tale” or as “inconsistent” is merely “Clinton politics” and clearly demonstrates why America badly needs the enormous breath of fresh air Barack Obama provides. At one time Senator Kerry from Nebraska referred to the Clinton’s as “clever liars” several years before President Bill Clinton told America: “I did not have sex with that woman!” or as Jay Leno quipped, “He didn’t have sex with her, she had it with him!”
Goodbye Bill and Hillary Clinton. Hello Barack Obama.

Hillary and Bill Clinton are sneaky and devisive. Her tactics are downright pathetic. Bill Clinton has all but villified his reputation among educated African Americans, what he is doing now is downright nasty. And we see it for who he truly is. Also, Hillary, you can’t go around getting African Americans leaders to endorse you and think that is going to make us respect you. Do you not realize the other guys campaigns are about THE PEOPLE? Yet, Hillary’s campaign is about HILLARY? You are a joke my friend. And I will take great pleasure in helping to defeat your party come November. I ask all logical and reasonable minded Dems. to join me. You don’t have to vote Repub. if the idea turns you off. You can vote Indep. Whatever you do, just don’t vote Hillary if she is the nominee. Don’t sanction their actions. Don’t let them pull the wool over your eyes…..these people are disgusting pigs. As an observor from the United Kingdom, I would have thought that is was clear why Obama voted against the war in Iraq (unlike Hillary Clinton), and then voted to support the troops in the field once they were committed to action. This is not a contradiction in terms as the Clintons alledge but an absolute moral duty. What if he had voted not to fund the war, what would people say? That he put US lives at risk? And what of Hillary’s record? She claimed to be behind the Northern Ireland Peace Process and Rwanda… not so, that is an outright lie…

Those of us who have the foresight to see into the summer realize that Obama stands no chance whatsoever in surviving the onslaught waged by the GOP. Rezko trial will result in charges of accepting bribes among other things by prosecutor, with probable disqualification of his candidacy altogether. Trinity United Church of Christ’s Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.’s (Obama’s mentor) award to Louis Farrakhan, founder of Nation of Islam, and known hater of Jews and Gentiles, is not a church where the leader of the free world should be affiliated. Their racist Black Values System, and non-negotiable contract with Africa reflects heavily on Obama’s character as he has not cut ties with this church for “some reason”. The Democratic base will not support nor overlook this radical association of Obama’s, even though the media has, and neither will Republican or Independent crossovers. His membership of twenty years in this church is a huge “in-your-face” insult to Americans for it’s sheer hypocrisy alone. Analysis shows too much baggage to overcome. Finally, on the subject of Bill Clinton challenging Obama’s record:
IT SHOULD BOTHER EVERY AMERICAN THAT OBAMA IS GETTING A FREE PASS FROM THE PRESS AND IS BEING CODDLED BY THEM. ANYONE WITH A LICK OF SENSE SHOULD BE ASKING AND WONDERING WHY THIS LACK OF SCRUTINY IS ACKNOWLEDGED EVEN BY HIS FANS. COINCIDENCE? DON’T BE SO NAIVE.
BILL CLINTON IS FORCED TO PERFORM THE DUTY THAT MAINSTREAM MEDIA REFUSES OR IS NOT ALLOWED TO DO. THIS IS THE ONLY SCRUTINY OBAMA HAS HAD TO FACE AND HE DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO ACT OR RESPOND, EXCEPT WHINE AND SAY IT ISN’T FAIR. HE CAN’T BE QUESTIONED WITHOUT HOLLERING RACE. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD ANYBODY WANT A PRESIDENT WHO PLAYS THE RACE CARD WHEN ASKED A QUESTION? HE’S NO DIFFERENT THAN MANY OF YOUR CO-WORKERS WHO GET AWAY WITH WHATEVER BECAUSE NO ONE WILL CHALLENGE THEM DUE TO RACE. WHO NEEDS TO WALK AROUND ON EGGSHELLS? WE NEED A PRESIDENT THAT IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE ON A DAILY BASIS – OBAMA’S FEAR OF BEING OUTED IS HIS PROBLEM – NOT OURS. EXPECT MORE OUT OF HIM – MAKE HIM ANSWER TOUGH QUESTIONS. BILL CLINTON HAS EVERY RIGHT TO DO THE JOB THAT MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS TO AFRAID TO DO. IF ANYTHING, YOU SHOULD BE GRATEFUL THAT HE IS EXPECTING ANSWERS. HE CONTINUES TO DO AMERICA AND ALL OF US A FAVOR.

Why are women excited about Hillary running for president? Hillary is not campaigning to be the first woman president…she’s just Bill’s mouthpiece so he can run for a third term. Her “experience” is his years in office. He put her in charge of healthcare and she created such a mess that he didn’t try to touch that issue for the rest of his 8 yrs in office. I guess they don’t really believe a woman can run without a man’s credentials behind her.

Does anyone remember in 1992 when Bill Clinton was running against George H. W. Bush? Barbara called Hillary a “word that rhymes with witch” and somehow everyone found it funny and endearing. Also, Bush called Clinton “Bozo-with that big nose”. That was certainly unbecoming behavior for a current President and First Lady!
Obama has some nerve speaking of either Clinton with such arrogance; does he actually hold Reagan in such high esteem? Maybe he is running on the wrong party ticket!

Can’t run on her own campaign WITHOUT BILL AND HIS MANY LIES and TOTAL RANTS. Bill has been involved in her campaign for how long now? No the REPUBS. will eat her alive. What will she do then? Will she cry and go for the sympathy vote?
It won’t work b/c those of us that don’t like her name, still won’t like her. So, while you all will be mad, we will be laughing and planning to vote with the REPUBS come Nov.
Oh an by the way, the Rezko affair, Hillary was involved in that too. I wish you Hillary supporters would educate yourselves. And to think many of you are allowed to vote!

So we are not REAL Democrats if we don’t want Hillary? Please. Not everyone is devoted to the Clinton’s. Not all of us think she is Mrs. Electable. AND YES SOME OF US WILL VOTE AGAINST HER COME DECEMBER.
Do not insult us because we want someone other than her. I find that as offensive and as insulting as I find the Clinton’s actions. THEY are the one’s not acting like Democrats!!!!
They are acting like street thugs with their style of campaigning. I guess you all don’t have a problem with the manner they are conducting their campaign? If the same things were being directed at Hillary, would you all have a problem with it then?
Sure, they (and you all) were against, “slash and burn style politics” and ” the politics of personal destruction” when it was directed at them. But, when they are the ones dishing it out, well I guess then it is ok.
Since Bill himself has entered this campaign, The Clinton’s are like the gum on the bottom of my shoe, disgusting. They are worthless, unworthy of any type of respect.

I have one question…what has Hillary done ON HER OWN that makes her so much more experienced to be President than the other candidates? (Do not include being First Lady or her husband)

Why are people framing this in terms of what Clinton did for Black people? Are you all aware that, were it not for Blacks, he wouldn’t have gotten elected?
Black people don’t owe the Clinton’s anything. The Clinton’s don’t owe Blacks. And although Blacks have remained loyal and consistent to the Dem. Party, that too is a wash. In other words folks we are all even. Women and other minority groups while not have the same devotion as blacks, have also supported and benefited from the policies of the party so it is a wash. In other words, give it a rest.
It is ironic that the very thing Dr. King marched for is now a JOKE. Think about it, here we are on MLK day and all of these Black Leaders, supporters, even people who claimed to have marched with King have all turned their backs on the guy. I wonder if someone were to tell Blacks: you won’t get this chance again for another 2000 years, would they still support Hillary over him? King must be turning over in his grave right now. I don’t mean to frame this in black and white but I’m reading all these post about what the Clinton’s have done for Blacks. Please. The Repubs. have helped you also. You all are just to partisan thus you cannot see it…….It might not have been the type of help many people had in mind, but in the end it was better than status quo.
On the topic of better, why are so many people so selfish? I hear so many people so better for us(women), or our people(black), etc. in regards to Hillary. Instead of thinking about yourselves, why don’t you think about what is best for everyone as a whole? Perhaps your life isn’t all that it could be because so many of you are so self-centered and cannot think beyond your own needs and wants. We know the Clinton’s can’t. Can you all?
Chelsea, many of us share your sentiments regarding the Bill.

As for Bill Clinton being a cheat…yeah, he was but so was FDR, JFK and MLK, yet we respect the memory of these truly good men who were also flawed human beings.

I once had a great deal of respect for Bill Clinton – he could have been a great president if he could have controlled himself. I was deeply disappointed when he commuted the sentences of a bunch of white collar criminals on his last day in office. Now I’m just sad over the way he is lowering himself and his former office by engaging in dirty politics. Hillery wants the presidency so much that she is using him to fight dirty. This is all the more reason I want Obama. I’m sick of the Karl Rove/Bush and Clinton style of partisan politics. We need someone honest and inclusive like Obama to give us something to really be proud of again. For me, it’s Obama or I set this one out.

Obama, is caught either lying or not remembering what he says. In the debate he said ” he never supported a single payer plan. WELL! He did before a union meeting in 2003. His record is not being distorted he has a bad memory or ?

I am a white women democrat that has always been loyal to the democratic party up untill the last debate. I’m so embarrassed for Bill and Hilliary. I had no idea that Bill could bend the truth so much about Barack. And I can’t believe how mean Hillary is. She looks like the wicked witch of the north when she start attacking and distorting the truth. I can’t believe I could have been so wrong about them, and I won’t be fooled by them again. My next vote will be for either Obama or Edwards, but never again for a Clinton.

I keep reading that Obama is a crybaby but if memory serves me right, Hillary is the one that (almost)shed tears in front of the camera. I can’t help but wonder if she will cry in front of foreign leaders when they say something “hurtful” to her.
I have spent alot of time watching the election coverage and I feel that Hillary gets an unfair amount of air time and it is not negative in tone. I personally think that the media, in general, favors her as the national candidate not Obama. If anyone is taking a hit in the media it’s John Edwards (just look at the time he gets in any debate) yet it’s Bill that is complaining about the media coverage.
I am a middle-class (by definition) factory worker and many of my peers feel that if Hillary is the candidate they will stay home on election day (remember NAFTA, we do) Score one for the Republicans.
It should not really surprise anyone that Bill is taking such an active role in Hillary’s campaign. All the talk about the Clinton administration is now what Bill and Hillary did and her campaign is now what they will do when elected. They are being treated as one person. What we need to realize is the Clintons have a marriage that is nothing more than a business arrangement. They have been planning their policial strategy for years, that’s why she did not leave him after all the sex scandals, why she moved to New York to run for the Senate, and that’s why he is her attack dog in this campaign. They are running as a team for President.
The media and analyst twist the candidate’s words so much that too much is made of what they actually said, but nicey-nice doesn’t make for good TV or newspaper. I wish the DNC could just tell the media to cool it. That would do more to unite the Democrats than anything else.

Last night as Kennedy and O’bama were hugged up at the prez’s speech,Hilliary walked over and shook Kennedy’s hand. O’bama turned his back on her. Class will tell.
