Obama on the State of the Union “Snub”
ABC News’ Sunlen Miller Reports: The morning after the State of the Union the Obama press plane was all a twitter over the body language between Senator Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton during a brief moment leading up to the president’s address on Monday evening.
TO SNUB OR NOT TO SNUB? JUDGE FOR YOURSELF BY WATCHING THE VIDEO HERE.
Obama attempted to clarify what many newspapers called a “snub” – the moment when Clinton reached out to greet Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts, who was standing next to Obama, and Obama turned his back to the interaction.
“I waved at her as we were coming into the Senate chamber before we walked over. I think there’s a lot more tea leaf reading going on here than I think people are suggesting,” Obama defended.
He explained that at that moment he was actually leaning over to answer a question from Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., and not intentionally turning his back on his top competitor.
“Senator Clinton and I have very cordial relations on the floor and off the floor,” Obama said with a straight face, just three days after a fierce battle for South Carolina in which both campaigns were on the attack.
Obama blamed the scrutiny over last night’s body language as a side effect of both candidates holding similar positions.
“There’s a lot of overlap in terms of policy positions between the Democrats, less so on the Republican side. So that probably leads us to comb over the gestures and the body language as reported in the Senate chamber,” said Obama.
Obama flew with McCaskill, one of his surrogates, from Washington, D.C. to Kansas Tuesday morning where he’ll pick up the endorsement of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, who delivered the Democratic response to the State of the Union.
Obama will hold a rally in McCaskill’s state, Missouri, later in the day on Tuesday, the start of an intense phase of the campaign leading up to Super Tuesday.
“The schedule is compressed so Senator Clinton has a big advantage going into the February 5th states. She’s much better known and I’m still being introduced to a lot of casual voters in these states,” Obama told reporters aboard the press plane, adding, “we’re scrappy though.”

sure looked like he intentionally snubbed her. no class! and she smiled and shook hands with teddy even though you know she must want to choke him. she’s got the ability to behave like a grownup

A picture is worth a thousand words. We all saw it so stop spinning it for us. Senator Clinton showed class, something you obviously lack. If it was Senator Clinton or President Bill Clinton who had done this, it would have been all over the news, they would be called vindictive and racist but since it is you, well…
Posted by: jack | January 29, 2008, 1:52 pm 1:52 pm
You are right sir, if this had been the clintons, the news would have not made the tv fast enough. This just shows the true bias for Obama. I think the media should all get jobs with Obama.
Let some real non bias people tell us the truth about the news and let us make up our own minds.

I don’t think it will matter much in the end.. Hillary will win all the way into the White House.. The question is..will Oboma be the V.P.?? .. Together they will be unbeatable.. I’m looking forward to Feb. 5th..

Obama needs to grow up. Not only was he disrespectful and arrogant, he was also very rude! Mrs. Clinton showed a lot of class by shaking Kennedy’s hand even if she did not mean it. That is the experience that Obama does not have.
Posted by: Ximena | January 29, 2008, 2:10 pm 2:10 pm
I disagree J.Murphy. No running mate could save a Clinton ticket, in my view. Obama wouldn’t wash Clinton’s negatives away. If she wins the nomination, Obama will have a difficult choice, assuming she offers the spot. To turn it down will look like he’s not doing what he can for the party, but to accept will only diminish his prospects for the future, which both he and the party have an interest in protecting.
Tough. Not sure what he’d do.

After all the people she’s snubbed, including U.S. soldiers, and I’m supposed to think less of Obama? Please. I’d have turned my back on her, too – but I would have looked her hard in the eyes first.

I am so sick and tired of the press (and Obama) making lame excuses for his behavior. Besides the fact that Teddy Kennedy’s endorsement showed a total lack of class, Obama – as usual – took the opportunity to gloat. I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him. I truly believe he has one face for the camera and another behind closed doors. Love her or hate her, Hillary has been gracious throughout this campaign, continually attempting to make her case on issues. When Obama complains that he doesn’t know who he’s running against – Hillary or Bill – my immediate thought is who is SHE running against, Obama or the whole damned press corps?! While Bill is accused of playing bad cop to Hillary’s good, Obama has every media outlet doing the exact same thing for him. It not only makes me angry by ashamed of this country. The whole “race” thing was Obama’s tactic which was turned upside to Hillary’s detriment. Remeber when asked if he thought Bill was “black”, Obama stated that he’d have to see him dance first. If that’s not stereotypical, I don’t know what is. If Hillary had responded, for instance, “Yes, and he likes watermelon too”, can you imagine the roasting she would have received. Finally, I think the true indicator of the two candidates is this: if Obama wins the nomination, I’m sure the Clintons will campaign for him; if Hillary gets it, you’ll see how petty Obama really is.

I think that the media as usual is to blame for this.
The complete photo of him standing next to that female senator from Kansas tells the whole story.
Its purely amazing what people would do to tell a story. Its like you cropping photos from your digital camera.
Disgusting

Every one should really get a life. He doesn’t need to run and smile in her face every time he sees her. It’s a hard campaign and if I remember correctly her distortion of his record is much more childish than not speaking in a huge crowd of people. He did interviews after the speech, she agreed to speak to the media then canceled. Were her feelings hurt? He obviously had other things to do. What about her?

I am faced with a quandary. What is a self professed right wing conservative (slowly, slowly creeping left) to do when the African American Former Muslin No Experience Democrat (AAFMNED) is the only one with something worth listening to?
I’m tired of Bush. I’m tired of the status quo. I’m tired of the Clintons… did I say I was tired of the status quo? I’m tired of the war, I’m tired of being sneered at or feared when I am over seas.
I’m tired of $3.49 gasoline… I’m tired of us spending billions (nay, trillions!) to save other people in other countries (OIL) when we have poverty, joblessness etc here…
All of this leads me to Barack Obama.
Guess what? He moves me… Now dont get me wrong, I’m not a sucker, a little jaded, but definitely not a sucker. I know that all politicians are shady and shifty… but this guys is really appealing to the fed up part of me.
Earlier I called him an AAFMNED. Let me quantify a few things…
I don’t care what his racial back ground is… (AA)
I don’t care what his religion is (FM)
I happen to think that being in the State Senate and U.S. Senate for for 12 years is worth more in the experience column than being the Spouse of a President and then riding his Coat Tails on name recognition in the senate of somewhere other than your home state…. (NE)
Now I still don’t care for the fact that he is a Democrat (D) but for the first time in my life, I’m willing to overlook that… why?
I don’t think he is owned by the system yet… I may actually have to read “The Audacity of Hope”.

druggstohr: WHAT DID YOU PRINT? ‘Hillary has been gracious throughout this campaign’???????? You must be blindly voting gender, or you have not been watching the debates. Not only has SHE, on occassion, lost her cool (not to mention, outright lied)but she’s allowed Bill to come in and do her dirty work for her. I shudder to think of 4 or even 8 more years of those 2 in the WH. And yes, he will be the co-President. If she hasn’t reined him in during the campaign, she certainly won’t do it after she wins. I used to be a staunch supporter of Hillary, but I can’t ever imagine voting for her.

Obama is a snob. He thinks he is up above Hillary, because the Kennedys’ endorse him. He is whinning and giving excuses for his childish behavior, for snubbing Hillary. He is arrogant. Well, he needs to show or to prove to the voters that he is qualify to run this country. He has no voting records to show where he stand. He votes ‘PRESENT’ to show that he is afraid to stand a stand. I know that many of us will pick McCain or Romney over Obama.

The MSM needs to get a life and to stop trying to start a fight. I take Senator Obama at his word and Senator McCaskill has said that was what happened. In the meantime, I wouldn’t blame him if he did snub her after the way Billary treated him in Nevada and South Carolina.

I hope Hillary beats the pants off of Obama..people keep calling him Osama by mistake (such as Ted Kennedy did yesterday)…what a yoyo. He’s showing his true colors by ignoring Hillary. He’s the one who started all this bad name calling stuff at the beginning and she had to defend herself.

Senator Obama’s behavior does not look very presedential. A person who would be president extends his hand both to friend and foe because his behavior now will be the same behavior when he is elected president. I know of no execuse to turn your back on a person.

To ABCforshort: I have also watched every single debate. Do me a favor: if you want Obama, fine. But all the blind, over-the-top Clinton hating is just, well, tired and lame. If all you’re intested in is the sound of your own cyber voice, then fine again. Otherwise, why not take the time to listen to what others have to post. Who knows, you might learn something or gain a different perpective. If that makes you more of an Obama supporter, great. But at least you’ll vote with your mind and not some other unidentifiable body part.

Ximena,
I wrote extensively on this.
If Clinton is to have a shot at winning Obama has to be on the ticket and they know this. However, if he loses he could run as an independent with Bloomberg or some other high-level profile. He would need to release his cabinet through and his entire plans to stay competitive… hard to say. third party tickets are also very risky

Re: Snubs, “Billary”, and other Press B.S.
As tempting as it is to jump into the bare-knuckle ballet, I have to be honest and say, although I support Obama, I don’t believe that a vote for Hillary means Bill will be skulking around in the shadows barking talking points at her from the wings. I’m sure there would be the pillow talk policy meetings, as we all have come to expect happens when a candidate has a strong spouse, and perhaps a certain extra effort to advise on Bill’s part (as his high profile role in her campaign seems to imply), but Hillary, if we are to be even handed, has always been accused of being her own, strong-willed woman. It is unlikely that if she gets her hard-won time in the sun, that she will simply serve it over to her spouse. Hillary, presumably, has developed the loyal following that she has, in NY in particular, because she has served her constituents.
I voted for Bill twice. Were there to be a different array of candidates this time around, perhaps I would be voting for another Clinton now too. While I never admired the man that Bill appeared to be in his personal life, I admired the public servant that he was and I believed in his intellectual and political abilities. Unfortunately, largely what remains in the public eye is the “personal” Bill, not the public service Bill. What I see is a defensive and reactionary spouse (as many of us would be while seeing our spouse go through trials) campaigning in a fashion that makes his wife look worse than the person he is trying to critique. The sins of the husband, as it were, should not come down upon Hillary’s head, but there are many ways, chief among them her disappointing and flexible stance on the war in Iraq, in which Hillary has herself created the defections she now sees in her former support base.
Her departure from her party in campaigning in Michigan and Florida also greatly concerns me. This is something that neither Edwards nor Obama felt was ethical to do. Perhaps Hillary will benefit from her departure in those states, but at what cost? Her sharp-toothed tactics with the Obama campaign is not a WP fiction. While the press can be ridiculously slanted, it is the nature of the beast. As for example this flap over “Obama’s Snub” of Hillary manufactured from a NYT picture of Hillary grinning and grabbing for Ted Kennedy’s hand, or even the incessant headlines describing “Obama’s Indicted fundraiser” who, in fact was neither “Obama’s” (funds came from the *partners* of one of his companies) nor a “fundraiser” (the donations were given to charity by the Obama campaign at the first indication of impropriety by their donor), or, see the article describing Obama slamming “ugly smears” from the Jewish community, which bears no relationship whatsoever to the text of the article. It does make you read it though, doesn’t it? Yes, the press can be a beast. Hillary is no more at its whims than Obama, though. The only person that seems to be escaping some of the fray is Edwards, but let’s be frank, it’s because he’s merely a strong third at the moment.
Finally, while Hillary will benefit from states where Independents and Republicans cannot participate in the Democratic primary (since Obama’s support has a large base of Independents and Republican-independent types) I find this to be evidence that she is the weaker candidate to put forward in the general election, not the other way around as the press spin seems to be playing. Inter-party support is kind of ideal, isn’t it?
I have read Obama’s two books, as well as the Clinton tomes (including Bill’s recent excellent “Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World”). Barack Obama, to me, is the clear choice when reads what he has to say.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe in the probability that Edwards would make an excellent nominee, and that Hillary has the potential to surprise and win over all her critics. It is only Obama, however, that I BELIEVE in, and that is something that has been on short supply for a long long time.

On a serious note it seems the media is working for Hillary though I don’t care.

You can always tell when the youngsters are on the boards. How many of you were even out of diapers during the Clinton Administration let alone even know who Ted Kennedy is? Take it from somebody who was there (as has been for over 50 years): Besides the absolute FACT that the media abhors the Clintons and have spent untold amounts of ink trying to destroy them (to no avail), like the EverReady Bunny, they keep on going. Lesser folks would have caved in a long, long time ago. The reason Clinton got two terms was because the People chose to ignore the press bashing. Those who say the Clintons are dividers are just lemmings, following the press’s lead. Face it, to the press, Obama is just fresh meat. Do you seriously think the honeymoon will last? Man what short memories some people have. Don’t you remember the lovefest the press has for “W” and look what happened. The guy is a disaster. Ditto for Obama’s “I’m an outsider” line. The last “outsider” was Jimmy Carter and if you’re too young, look up how he was treated when he took office. They couldn’t make up enough peanut famer jokes to demean the guy. Caroline Kennedy? Where the hell’s she been? Funny her cousins are for Hillary; everybody knows it wasn’t her father Jack but her Uncle Bobby who did all the REAL work. But THAT endorsement almost totally escapes the media. Finally, this is a contest for the presidency of the United States not student body president. Unfortunately, most of you posters don’t have any other reference. I guess that’s not your fault but just remember, a vote for Barack is not some psuedo vote for Snoop Dog or Puff Daddy — it’s for a real job -

Are you even aware of the distorting effect of the television “eye”, the boxing effect it has of obsessing on that which is in its frame of view and excluding everything around it, so that we see the candidate but not the dozens of reporters crowded around, Obama but not the person standing a few feet away. Has anyone tried to determine if Sen. McCaskill was in the vicinity? Or is this just endless obsessing over what is seen on television as if it were constitutive of reality?

The plain truth is this: Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are arrogant. They have acted in the most condescending and demeaning way toward Senator Clinton. Michelle has stood in front of their supporters at rallies and told outrageous lies about Sen. Clinton. She has never even bothered to read Sen. Clintons curriculum vitae; and it is impressive. Senator Clinton has spent an entire adult lifetime working to lift up those who are struggling; working for children; working for healthcare for those without. She is far and away the most intelligent person running for office. She is the best educated person running for office. She is no liberal and anyone who wants to look up the record for both her and Pres. Clinton will find they are staunch progressives, and have never been liberals.
It is time to look reality right in the face. Senator Clinton is prepared from day one to assume the roleof President of the United States. Sen. Obama is still learning how to look and act like a grown up; and he is doing a very poor job of it.
This is not a country where 17% of the population (black) will decide who their President will be (in spite of what Oprah and Morrison tell you). This is a country where the entire voting population will decide who the Country’s President will be.
Hopefully that will be Senator Clinton. If not, I guarantee you it will be a Republican.

spare me the Reaganisms (I didn’t think they were cute then, either). Perhaps you should better understand the concept of a presidential campaign or a debate for that matter — the whole point is to attack your opponent on issues and to present rebuttals on counterattack. Otherwise it’s just a bunch of candidates spouting air. INSPIRING, isn’t it? I guess it has something to do with the way people today are so afraid and/or intimidated by face-to-face confrontation. That, and the idea of actually being held acountable for one’s actions seems to be another no-no. It’s very telling that so many young people are for Obama — he represents that dreamy optimisn that really comes down to not knowing enough to discern dreams from reality. For that reason, I really think 18 is too young to vote. What the hell does an 18-year old know? Nothing. To use a phrase peopular today, “whatever dude.”

Who is lying now???? It appears that he did not think that he needed to show simple respect to a woman and that perhaps he was afraid to let Ted see him being casual with Senator Clinton. This often happens when we whine to others and they defend us; we loose our ability to be independent. What a shame for a proud man to be dependent and feel the need for this reaction! Who will he shun when he is in conference with leaders around the world, republicans and democrats?

Talk about grasping at straws.

I’m a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter and I don’t believe that Obama’s intent was to snub. Under the circumstances, I’m sure it was uncomfortable. What I do take issue with is the Claire McCaskill excuse created to deflect the issue. In the NYTimes photo Obama is looking down. When someone calls your name and you turn to respond you look up and toward that individual, not down at your hands or the floor. No candidate should have to explain themselves about ridiculous, media created scenarios. Obama supporters need to consider this the next time a ridiculous charge is leveled at Hillary Clinton.

Why do people always try to find a negative? The media shows what it wants to show to get a rise….to create news where there is none!!
Both Barack and Claire are telling the same story. Very few would have thought anything of it had the media shown the complete picture and not began first thing this morning trying to make something out of nothing.
You are cutting off this country’s nose to spite its face if you let little things like this sway you toward Billary and away from the promise and light of Barack Obama

His saintly, holier than though, method of campaigning is wearing thin. He’s lost my vote. I suggest instead of belittling himself with running for President…he should instead run for the role of Messiah!

Its good to see that we are moving forward as a nation, however it’s sad that for some of you the bottom line is that it doesn’t matter who gets in the white house as long as it’s not a black guy. I thought this nation was designed to be a nation where change is necessary so that the same people are not in charge long enough to monopolize the leadership in this country. I seriously doubt that Obama can do any worse than W. Why not get someone in the White House who’s going to really bring change.

Yes, he snubbed her, and that was not a gentlemanly thing to do. I am sick and tired of the free media ride given to Obama. All the talk about hope and change without any meat? Please give me a break! If an employer will not hire you because of your ability to inspire, why then is it okay to hire a president for that reason. It was okay for Obama to accuse Clinton during their last debate for being a board member of Walmart while he was doing whatever. The last time I checked, that was not a crime. Somehow, it is not fair game when his past is discussed. His defense – I already published it in my book; therefore it is out of reach. Give me a BREAK! By the way, I am BLACK and an Independent. He has not earned my vote.

I’m from Iowa where we wined, dined, and talked to these candidates from dawn to way past my bedtime. We studied, and discussed and examined these folks for six months. When it came time to stand up and commit Obama came in first, Edwards second and Clinton was third. Anybody wonder why? Clinton does not hold up under scrutiny in the way Obama does. The kind Senator was “saving” Obama. He did turn, as soon as Senator Kennedy reached for Clinton. There was an awkard half a minute or so before the other Senator got his attention. Even though I am a Hillary supporter, I didn’t think anything of it. I have paid attention to Barack Obama since he spoke at the convention and how he appeared on practically every show Harold Ford appeared on…I have always like Ford because he is a “regular” guy. However, I have always found Obama to come across as arrogant, smug and as though he’s deserving. That’s why I wasn’t surprised at what I saw, certainly didn’t think the media would have said anything since they sell him and all.

He didn’t snub her. And even if he did, she and Bill should NOT HAVE SPENT THE LAST 3 WEEKS LYING ON HIM.
Is it showing respect when you purposefully mislead the public and down right lie on someone? Is it showing respect when you attack someone based on a TOTAL LIE?
If she wants respect she BETTER LEARN TO GIVE IT. She is not immune from common DECENCY because she is a woman and because you all THINK SHE IS SOME GOD. SHE IS NOT GOD AND SHE DESERVED LESS THAN WHAT SHE GOT.

Here’s an endorsement for Hillary by Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Kerry Kennedy. They focused on substance and real track records, instead of the vague rhetorics on Obama.
“….We have worked with Hillary Clinton for 15 years (and in Kathleen’s case, 25 years) and witnessed the power and depth of her convictions firsthand. We’ve seen her formidable work ethic, courage in the face of adversity and her dignity and clear head in crisis. We’ve also seen her two-fisted willingness to enter the brawl when America’s principles are challenged. Her measured rhetoric, political savvy and pragmatism shield the heart of our nation’s most determined and most democratic warrior.”….

The curious thing is that the media don’t cover this as much as the Ted Kennedy endorsement.

I don’t know why a lot of people are wasting their votes on Obama when there is a candidate that has all his qualities plus proven experience and already know how she can bring about change. Then she has a husband (an ex President) who can really be an additional asset to the country. Why does anyone have to be convinced further? Vote Hillary! For goodness’ sake. Respectable people from other countries even know this.

Is this all the garbage you can come up with? I have noticed that the Hilly supporters do not have anything to say about Whitewater, the corrupt Arkansas dealings, the impeachment, the Rezko connection, the HSU connection–what about it? And you think the Clintons are squeaky clean? If she and Billy get in the White House, and him, you can bet things will be the same old status quo. She just wants to be the first female president and he wants to run things. Two for the price of one? This is one time I don’t want two for the price of one. It will not be a bargain!Obama ’08

Spiritually – no. . . . Because when we declare “one nation under God,” the Christian’s God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as
Heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in The Quran’s 99 excellent names.
You honestly need to get your facts straight…
Al-WADUD (THE LOVING)
AR-RAHMAH(THE MOST MERCIFUL)
The meaning of this Arabic word, Al-Qur’án, is “The Reading, The Recitation (aloud) and The Collection”. The Miraculous Qur’án has successfully created a new phase of human thought and has greatly affected the life of millions of people the world over. While the Great Qur’án strictly prohibits the roots of all evils such as interest, oppression, corruption, adultery, intoxicants, gambling, etc., it constantly reminds us of the Divine mercy and compassion.
Allah (Arabic: الله, Allāh, IPA: [ʔalˤːɑːh]) is the standard Arabic word for “God”.[1] The term is most likely derived from a contraction of the Arabic article al- and ʾilāh “deity, god” to al-lāh meaning “the [sole] deity, God” (ho theos monos); another theory traces the etymology of the word to the Aramaic Alāhā.[2]
While the term is best known in the West for its use by Muslims as a reference to God, it is used by Arabic-speakers of all Abrahamic faiths, including Christians and Jews in reference to “God”.
Al-Karim The Bountiful, The Generous
As-Sabur The Patient, The Timeless

Oh come on! When did this degenerate to high school people? Debating whether Obama snubbed Sen. Clinton after her and Bill tried to do a hatchet job on him is just insane! This is why the Clinton campaign is doomed to failure. They are locked into throwing mud and making it stick (The Carville way of politics) and not talking about ideas or what will happen should she actually get the nomination. If this is all Sen. Clinton has, do us all a favor, quit the campaign and just go back to work.

Yes, it did appear that Senator Obama did a snub job on Senator Clinton. Hopefully, Mr. Obama will exhibit politeness on the campaign trail and refrain from name calling, agitating, and baiting. Apparently, Mr. Obama, pumped up from his endorsement by an intoxicated appearing Senator Kennedy triggered yet another display of poor manners. Also, Mr. Obama should concentrate on substance in his “speeches” rather than the empty rhetoric displayed to date.

Are you kidding me? People are choosing not to vote for someone because he happens to turn away when a political rival (who has spent recent times smearing his reputation) approaches? Who cares if it’s deliberate or not! If that’s the reason you’re put off a candidate or the reason you refuse to vote for him, go back to kindergarten. How about voting for, or supporting a candidate because of ACTUAL political issues that don’t involve body angles? Like the economy, or the war in Iraq, or education, or health care. Americans, don’t disgrace yourselves on the internet by displaying how you pander to tabloid culture. It’s a sad state of affairs when something as ridiculous as this even makes the news. “BARACK OBAMA HAPPENED TO BE FACING A DIFFERENT DIRECTION! WHO KNOWS IF IT WAS A SNUB OR NOT A SNUB?! The more important question is why Hillary thinks she can turn her back on the truth.
Hillary said tonight that she would fight to make sure Florida’s delegates were seated at the convention.
This after promising to abide by the national party’s decision on the contest being non-binding.
In Nevada the Clintons whined that the Obama campaign had an advertisement that called them sinverguenzas–shameless.
Is there any other name for it?
Government accountability starts with personal responsibility.
The concept is foreign to the Clintons.
It is time to take the Democratic Party back!

I’m so disappointed in you. You did not report this honestly. All other media outlets clearly corrected the “snub” coverage and aired the entire comment that BOTH Senator Obama and Sen. Obama is supposed to be such a good speaker, and that is why I was so amazed by his explanation of his rude action. Not only didn’t he express any regret, he blamed on the others for “reading to much in the tealeaves”
What the hell does he mean? What has the questioning about his ill-mannered behavior to do with “reading the tea leaves”. That is totally non sequitur and absurd.
Obama does not seem to be able to follow logic in what he says. Is this lack of logic the reason ofhis votes for hundreds of billions to continue a war he is supposed to oppose?

The press, not just ABC have been biased against Hillary. There is no report that Robert KennedyS daughter Kathleen supports Hillary. Instead, Caroline and Ted were splashed all over the screen. Kathleen Kennedy is as much as a Kennedy as Caroline.

Posted by: jenny | January 29, 2008, 11:19 pm 11:19 pm
Let’s get it right. Those who fall for the “SNUB” are weak-minded! Why in the world would Senator Obama snub the Clintons, intentially, when he is going to need their support for the general election? Again, the media can be useful and then they can be “manipulative”!
Posted by: MWPHGLofPA | January 29, 2008, 11:22 pm 11:22 pm
I mean really what does it matter if he snubbed her or not. They are both in competition, and if the man said he was talking to someone else then just leave it at that. The press always tries to find some way to find conflict by twisting and turning a picture so we have some more pointless news to talk about. How about we talk about who is going to bring us out of this economic hole we’re in.
Posted by: Adrian | January 29, 2008, 11:25 pm 11:25 pm
Pictures don’t lie, and most of all Obama admitted he didn’t shake Billary’s hand that evening. Look, he lied, about calling Bill Clinton’s remarks racist, Jessie Jackson is not offended, if it were racist, he’d be offended. Obama and his crazy campaign caused all this hoopla, which is really loved by the serious voters, who want to know the differences between the candidates, who are the winners and losers and what they plan to do about the domestic issues and the war that still faces us. Of course serious voters would all vote for John Edwards, not Billary or
the hip hop artist Obama.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading all the postings here and it confirms my belief that the majority of American Democrats believe Hillary is the candidate to get the nomination! Obama should have extended his hand first, he knew she was there and the cameras were rolling…what a great opportunity to show statesmen like behavior, classy beat you-to-the-good-sportsmanship-punch. But instead he took his arrogant high road again. I’m an Independent registered Republican who will only vote Democrat if Hillary is on the ticket. If Obama had the class and experiene of Colin Powell, then we’d be talking…otherwise I’m voting for the most qualified, intelligent, articulate, hard working, experienced candidate, who clearly knows how to conduct herself in offering Obama a good will handshake. GO HILLARY!!!

Pointman: That has to be one of the most asinine post I’ve read today. I highly doubt your claim being a combat veteran. If you were, you would more than likely be supporting the man who has written and passed more legislation benefiting veterans than any Senator this decade.
Posted by: Gc | January 29, 2008, 11:42 pm 11:42 pm
I really wish you independents and cross over republicans would vote for
a republican in the primary so whatever candidate that gets to be nominee, you will vote for in the General election. Instead of voting for Obama, and making him the nominee of the Democratic party but clearly has no chance to win against either republican McCain or Romney, by the way independents, by not voting for the most electable candidate in the general (John Edwards) an independent may enter the race and somebody is going to get screwed and the Independent candidate will not be the winner.

Do people read the comments before posting. The Video shown did not show the whole story. Obama was talking to someone else.
Other then the Hillary fans here who seem to be blind and anit-Obama that you missed the class act she made by not leading you to beleive she was reaching out to Obama.
I give her credit what a spin.
The little respect I had for the Clinton is just about all gone.

Obama is an arrogant guy with an inflated ego. Who would want this dude to be president? Who would vote for him after that type of immature behavior. This is not a world leader.
Posted by: Dave | January 29, 2008, 11:59 pm 11:59 pm
The snub was not just rude but also indicative of his lack of basic manners. It also says something about his ability to handle the delicate diplomatic conversations that Presidents have to be able to handle. Also, even though a snub may seem like a small matter, as is always the case the cover-up means more. Here, he clearly lied later and even had his endorser lie for him. That says something about both of them. It also makes you wonder when people conspire to lie about little things will they conspire to lie about big things?

An arrogant young upstart who promises to bring change to Washington, wants to unite and not divide the American people, bring the nations of the world back together. Yet, he does not practice what he preaches. We put him in office and we see his true colors. Sounds like Obama is the new Bush. As a

Obushama No for 08.

Ah the supposed snub….
I guess the “he’s just like Jesse Jackson” thing wasn’t working, the Camelot crowd (that counts) went to Barack and ol’ Bill’s been told to shut up. So it’s time for a new gimmick (I mean campaign strategy – ahem). What’s a girl to do? Why pull out the old red dress (but we’re not supposed to pay attention to how she’s dressed, that’s sexist), march on over for the cameras and manufacture a Kodak moment. Clinton BS at its best.

Obama is going to be dragging book-club Oprah out to help him try to look like he is all about supporting women. Book-club needs to get out of her pew and move to the pulpit to preach about respect for women to her pick, Obama.
Obama is a fake. In this case, a picture is worth hundreds of thousands of votes from women being treated like second-class citizens.
See you soon Oprah.

Obama blew the election for himself. He can now go back to his 1.3 million dollar home and his new yard courtesy of Rezko and plant some hope for himself. By the way, his wife, Michelle, has been cashing in at her own while consulting for a company with ties to Walmart.
The more exposed this Obama becomes the more he looks like another empty politician cashing out for himself. No difference. No change.

Obama kept saying over and over and over again that Florida is a beauty contest. Even today he was saying Florida is a beauty contest. And that the Florida vote doesn’t count. My family lives in north Fla and they are ticked off at Obama. First he says no one should vote because it is only a beauty contest and then the “snob guy” runs commercials in Florida against the DNC rules. If Obama didn’t want anyone to go to the polls, then why did he spend millions on commercials in Florida? Clinton and Edwards no commercials and no campaigning. Obama makes my family and friends sick. And we are so happy Obama was crushed tonight by the Florida voters. Who does this up start think he is? Obama needs to show some respect to the voters of Florida and Michigan. And to Senator Clinton.
SENATOR CLINTON WINS FLORIDA!!!!!

Obama the uniter? The inspiring leader who will bring us together?
By pouting like a child when receiving legitimate attacks. By snubbing a fellow senator and opponent in one of the most public venues possible in the whole world. By whining, making excuses, and denying what we all saw with our own eyes.
Does a uniter snub anyone publicly? Does a uniter snarl a sarcastic “you’re likeable enough, Hillary?” in a debate when there was no need for him to say anything at all.
If Obama can’t take the heat, he needs to get out of the kitchen. He is just proving that he is nothing but hot air. How on earth will he react when the Republicans trash him if he can’t take these tiny little criticisms he’s getting now.
I’m going to Hillary. I want someone with some class in the presidency for a change.

Some people here share Republican hatred machine of Bill and Hillary Clinton. Why don’t you remember only seven years ago when Bill was the only president in our lifetime who balance the budget and run the county on surplus. For me, I didn’t feel any hardship during Bill eight years. Now I have four kids in school, home mortgage, and everyday nightmare of losing my job. I trust Hillary more than Obama and his empty speeches. I am glad people saw his true mentality. He lost my vote longtime ago.

A real man would apologize for any misunderstanding. What does Obama do? Lies. Spins. We saw the photo. We watched the video. All these 19 year old Obama fans need to go back to updating their Myspace friend requests and leave the elections to the adults. We know respect when we see it and what we see is a man not ready to be President.
It should also be noted that Obama was excited (and did) shake hands with Bush after the speech. No surprise there since ” the Republicans have all the ideas.”
Claire Mcwhatever can lie all she wants. Her man is a bad pick. True colors people.

On the news when asked about it the Mi. Gov. had to jump in and explain so the story would be the same. To bad it doesn’t go over, I read lips and didn’t see her ask him a question just as Hillary Clinton walked up to him and Ted. But hey this coming from the same guy that didn’t campaign in Florida but ads have been on TV for weeks. No John Edwards, or Hillary Clinton ads have been on at all. Oh that is right he had national ads and could not tell the networks not to show them in Florida, I don’t have Cable or a Dish so the ads are on the networks.

When Obama got SC. his true colors came out ! Hey Man-get some manners! Sen. Clinton has been more than gracious to you in public and private! She out ranks you in the Senate -in political experience- and the democratic party! She is older than you has put in a lot more hard time and sweat than you! She has more integrity! She is well respected by millions and millions around the globe! And even though the press and every Media face in Washington refuses to acknowledge this simple truth- Sen. Clinton isfirst and foremost a Lady!Amember of the kinder, gentler sex! Any true Gentleman would have had the decency to acknowledge her presence and politely extend his hand in greeting. Manners are those things we learned in the kindergarten next to The Golden Rule..If Obama can’t grasp the basics of Moralistic,American human behavior, how can we believe this guy has what it takes to run the Country? We need a leader with the capability of putting us back in good standings with the rest of the world. This guy can’t play nice with the kids at his own playground!

I really don’t like the Republicans, but I would vote for one in preference to Hillary. I supported Bill but he’s had his chance and should shut up now. The Hillary campaign has played the gender card a lot more than Obama has played the race card. It won them New Hampshire. I doubt it will win the presidency. It’s time to get away from the dynasties and vote in an agent for change. (And it ain’t cause Hillary’s a woman, it’s because she’s Hillary).

I find it interesting that seemingly intelligent people will swallow the main
stream spin on Obama’s so-called body language.Obviously he had already acknowledged her, and she has not complained about his waving to her. I suggest you go to both Obama’s website and Clinton’w website, and see what they stand for. As for Obama’s votes, you need to call his office, and find out that he had intelligent reason why he did not vote on some of the bills, and voted present. Investigate, and be fair to both Hillary and Obama. That is all I ask.
Peace to all of good will!

I hope that Hillary is chosen as the candidate, otherwise, John McCain will win. He has the experience. After watching the debates, it is very clear that Obama lacks information on technical details on the economy, health care and education. Moreover, he will be tested by McCain on the terror related issues. Superficial answers and one liners will not help. It is good running on the theme stating that he would like to change America, but where is the beef?

As a woman who has been involved in local politics we walk a fine line between being too tough and too emotional… Hilary has what it takes to be president NOW, she has a firm command of the issues, she knows how to get Washington to work – yes she can be polarizing, but what good and effective politicians have not been … as far as Bill – all presidents have had relatives that have caused them a little grief but once she is elected, he will find his niche and definitively be a positive … I have nothing against Obama – I just do not feel that he has the gravitas to be president at this point – he seems too idealistic and all the comparisons to Kennedy may inspire but what actually did Kennedy do for the country – he really is an ideal and unfortunately his life was cut too short to leave a true legacy – The Republicans cannot wait to get their hands on Hilary but I think she will rally to their criticism if she does not get too defensive and bitter – again that tough balance that most women face, whether in our professional life or at home… Good Luck Hilary. Let’s stop focusing on all these little bickering issues and look at the big picture – beating the Republicans – if we cannot do this after Bush – I will let you finish this sentence…

I agree that his snub was arrogant but also cowardly. Obama certainly has the passion of JFK. Unfortunately civil rights activist Bobby Kennedy had all the passion in that family. Anyone that was alive at that time will remember. His record was amazing. Maybe it’s that passion that Bobby’s children including Robert Jr. see in Hillary. You can’t have change without passion and Hillary and Bill certainly have plenty of it.

Doesn’t anyone see that this is a photograph of ONE portion of a LARGER set? EXAMINE the photographs properly, and the video too. It is more than obvious that Obama was leaning towards someone on his left, someone who was obviously asking for his attention about something. What snub? What body language? This is obviously a photograph attempting to frame a particular perspective. I think we ought to search for another photo shot or clip that shows a LARGER sphere of people around them – only then will we see the full picture.

It seems to me while reading through all the comments that most posters think watching 10 minutes of political coverage makes them a pundit – it doesn’t. If this “snub” has caused you to change your vote one way or the other for either candidate – you’re obtuse. And if you this primary comes down to this kind of tit-for-tat idiocy – the democrats can kiss the WH goodbye in 2008.

I think most of the you are ignorant about this entire election. I am a Clinton fan and did vote for him in post elections. Americans had given him a chance to change our Country for the better, we was successful at times but today is a new day and time for a different kind of change. A change uniting all Americans, rich / poor, black, white, latinos, asia together as one. Establishing better health care and education is a social issue in American. Don’t forget our senior citizens with social security. They too need our help, it’s time that we as Americans stop fighting with one another and unite to bring was back as one. The America our fore fathers came to know. Barack Obama, is the only candidate I believe who is sincere and will try his best to restore America from this recession. I don’t think he’s a snob but I do know that he’s a human being and his entitled to be emotionally upset regarding negative remarks made about him. [Do you really believe Hillary's fake tears?] I don’t and Bill will be the next President and not Hillary if America remains ignorant of the facts on the parties.

Obama has no class at all. This is not the first time he has shown his arrogance. I have closely watched his body language when ever he is on TV (which is twice more than all other candidates combined).
He comes off as supremely arrogant and he has this sense of entitlement that America owes him the Presidency. I hope he falls off his high horse on Super Tuesday.

She was reaching out to shake Kennedy’s hand, so…how exactly did Obama snub her?
There is nothing to suggest that she was coming over to see him. She didn’t tap him on the shoulder and try to shake his hand. And even her words in interviews are calculated to avoid revealing that fact.
“My hand of friendship is still outstretched”, she says. What a load of bull.

Obama…O’Bummer. Could he not think the cameras were rolling and knowing Hillary was inches away and reaching over for Ted’s hand…could he not think to do a Presidential thing and extend his first? Don’t tell me he was invloved in a conversation. Earlier we had seen O’bummer and Kennedy looking Hillary’s way then I saw four photo of him applauding and looking distracted or trying to avoid the handshaking taking place before him. The stink isn’t that he didn’t take the higher Presidential-like road with his opponent…the stink is that is this the kind of fauxpas we want to see from an inexperienced newbie representing our country? More arrogant behavior by those Americans. We need a leader in office who represents us globally and that leader is HILLARY CLINTON!

Is that what he would do to foreign leaders he does not like or does not agree with – ignore them? Is that what he would do with other politicians he disagrees with – ignore them? We don’t need another spoiled brat in the WH refusing to speak to anyone or negotiate with anyone and let everthing escalate out of control because he just wants his own way. We don’t need another “shoot first” “decider” tearing our country apart again. Looks like this guy has a lot of growing up to do. Book smarts alone can’t run a country. We need a strong, intelligent, savvy, diplomatic negotiator in this day and age – not an “ignorer” like Obama.

Get to know more about him first and also, gave him the same opportunity you gaved Bill Clinton prior to Bush being elected. Knowledge is power, therefore, do not allow the elitist / lobbyist called your mental thoughts.

i’ve seen snubs, i’ve been snubbed, i’ve snubbed. that was a snub. if it wasn’t, it should be easy to say, ‘oh, so-and-so caught my attention and i turned to him/her’ or ‘dropped my pen and started looking for it.’ thing is, it’s these little things that get ALLLL FREAKIN BLOWWWNNN OUT OF PROPOOORTIONNNN during the general election when the right wing will hammer somebody like obama for being a poor sport and mr and mrs middle america see it and go, ‘oh, isn’t that just terrible…’ i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, he needs a little more experience, maturity, and seasoning. whether we like it or not, it is a political game and she knows how to play it better. he’ll still be TOTALLY VIABLE 4 or 8 or even 12 years from now, and a much better candidate and president for those extra few years of training.

Ron you proved my point I did not say Bush put us in the black or in the red. All I said is everyone seems to think Hillary can do not wrong but as we know there was white water and then the intern. What about the miltiary plane the was forced to land in China and instead of blowing it up he left it there for months so that they could leran about our miltiary technology. He may as well have gift wrapped it for then. So please use your head for smoething other than holding your ears apart. Hillary would just be a bad rerun. Don’t get me wrong Bush is an idiot and I do not agree with him very often. To put Hillary back in the whitehouse is like NBC bringing back Knight Rider and Amercian Gladiators. Just the same old crap recycled over again. The Clintons are not royalty. I am not against a women pres. just not her.

What do your mean Obama stay classy? Who said he has class? When is he going to change that suit he wears or does he only buy one color. Now that he’s donating the crook Rezko’s money that he had will he still stay friends with him undercover? After all he was his attorney and was Obama crooked? Let me go on record that Obama could never beat McCain, he couldn’t beat Hillary Clinton. I can’t wait until Hillary wins the nomination and sticks it to Ted Kennedy if she becomes president. If I was Hillary I wouldn’t pass a bill for him and I would ignore Obama completely.

Obama did snub Hillary Clinton as it shows and who does he think he is. He was a pauper at one time and he does not have the money that the Clinton’s have and probably never will. If I was Hillary I wouldn’t open a hand shake to him, he’s a nobody trying to be somebody. And he is nowhere like JFK and never will be. JFK had s good speaking voice, intelligence and the capabilities of making decisions on his own. Forget Obama that will never be and he will not, repeat, will not win the nomination now or never. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. And Hulk Hogan endorsing Obama? Hulk’s wife is suing him for divorce and the property. Oh my what an endorsement. If it isn’t Rezko its someone else in trouble.

To Jean Bennett: I agree with everything you say. You are so right. Obama and Michelle are arrogant and don’t have any manners. If he wants to become president he better straighten out because world leaders would not tolerate his attitude. And I am surprised at Jimmy Carter for what he said about Hillary.

This is ludicrous. Look at their eyes. Hillary isn’t even looking at Obama. She’s obviously shaking hands with Kennedy.

I am black and never never would I consider voting for Obama. He has a lot of growing up to do and learning as well., We know little about him and he is so arrogant that it makes me sick to my stomach. Lets be fair and and look at the big picture. Hillary is a woman and I know some individuals do not and will not except her as the President of the United States. Times have changed and women are on the move, Hillary will be our next President whether some like it or not,. Sorry Sorry Gentlemen but you need to get on board,.

For somebody that goes around talking about unifying the country, that picture tells a different story. Obama shows a lot of immaturity and arrogance.
Goodluck in November if Obama is the nominee of the Democratic party.

Yes he snubbed her, because he’s an arrogant amateur. He has no record of getting anything done to stand on. If he could just sound more like a Colin Powell and not a screaming preaching Jessie Jackson and have something substantial behind his “Change” mantra. His whole demeanor is offensive and if he is the Dem nominee, for sure it will be a Republican (hopefully McCain) in the WH. I would only vote Hillary and most intelligent, honest, middle of the road Americans would too. Everyone is afraid to look racist but it’s OK to be sexist? SHE is the best Dem. candidate and most these posters agree (except VoteDemDon’tThink). And by the way, what does bringing up Bill’s past have anything to do with all that Hillary will be able to accomplish in the WH. She could get more done on any given day than Obummer. Bill’s expertise will come in handy too. WAKE UP, if the Dems want to win, the logical, educated choice is HILLARY!

I am a Canadian and I must say I am puzzled by the way Americans conduct the lead up to their elections, why the mudslinging?
The candidates records and actions should speak for themselves. Come on, we have had a female Leader as have many other countries, a candidates sex has nothing to do with their ability the same for the hue of their skin. Lets all try to be civil. Kudos to those who showed grace and manners in their comments.

Definitely a snug. Obama needs to explain the $60,000 campaing money he received from the SLUM LORD, Land Developer, Drug Money Launderer, now arrested ANTOIN (TONY) REZKO who also save OBAMA $300,000 dollars on his home he purchased in Chicago. What did OBAMA promise REZKO. An endorsement from the KENNEDY Killers is something to really be proud of.

Maybe we can only leave Obama’s action to individuals to access. from all i see, it could have been either way: Obama avoiding an opponent – a bad and demeaning move – or Obama actually not seeing clinton approach!
the latter is ok, the former is a shame!

Barak is attacking Hillary Clinton all the time. Therefore, no matter what Obama or anybody else they get away with it but not Hillary.

The press does have more important things to cover, but…
What separates me from the Republicans is I think FACTS trump assertions and speculation.
The fact in this case is Hillary did reach out to Obama. She reached out to shake Kennedy’s hand.
I don’t know if it was meant as a snub or not. If so, it was a little childish. If not, then Hillary making a big deal about it was the childish move. Either way, it is of little consequence.
What is of consequence is that there are so many people out there who are stupid enough to think this determines whether someone should be president or not. Go read a book. Reading and thinking are some of the other things that should distinguish us from republicans. Both candidates have books that speak volumes about how they view the world and where they would take america. Read, think, and only then speak. Better yet, read, think, and only then vote.

I looked close at the photo of the event and i do believe obama snubed Clinton, I than looked at another photo of abama and laughed,, i never dreamed of what i saw befor,, it was a skinny chicken neck with a head and the face looked to me like a turtle face. Everytime i see obama talking about the people of the United States i see “” we Black African Americans”,,, Now all my life i have been a hines 57 person of other races but always befor the presidents have refurred to us as ” WE the people ”,, Now you think obama is ready to be president,, thank about young kids going out on thier own and a young age thinking they have the world by the tail until they rack up all the credit card debts and come running back home for someone to pay them, this is much on the line of bill of sale obama is handing out to the people. Now for the Kennedy’s to embrace obama, not a supprise to me at all,, that old fossal should have been out of office years ago but as long as he can kiss up to someone he will be there a while longer,, there needs to be a term limit as to how long a person can be a sinitor or what ever in office,, if the limit is set to a 8 year term also we might see a big change in washington but untill than?
Obama, this is for you personally,, i truely believe you are a person playing the race game. I knew someday look forward to a black man in the presidents office but after watching you i would no longer desire to see that in my time. I only hope i am wrong but i think you set the black people back in time about 30 years. You need to grow up and change your childish ways if you ever hope to be counted for anything. In my books H. Clinton was the only way to go but if she should lose i hope John McCain get the nomination. You see obama, you are no better than george bush is and will do even less than he did.

Is this the kind of behavior Obama will engage in, when he’ll come across some foreign leader he doesn’t like.
His arrogance and lack of basic manners is disgusting.

OBAMA 08, Baby! Can any thinking person in this country really look forward to another 4 years of Clinton-Bush? The country has been controlled by two families for the last 20 years. I kinda thought we once fought a war to end this kind of thing….

There was no snub. Obama was already turning away before Hillary even had her hand out… look at the photos again. And there was a woman in his line of sight as she was approaching, notice how the photo is taken from a high vantage point.
The media really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel for this. Hillary, when she did extend her hand, was clearly looking at Ted Kennedy, not at Obama who had already turned away.
Yet she goes on record as saying she extended her hand to Obama in friendship, when the photos show that isn’t true. This lady can lie at the drop of a hat.

I’m not only tired of Obama an his whining I am totally discusted with the CNN’s BEST BROADCAST TEAM IN AMERICA, Wolf Blitzer, Jack Cafferty and the rest. One little incident comes up like Bill Clinton’s legimate business deal with the Canadian Bussiness man and you go on and on for hours in trying to make an issue out of it. Then when OBAMA is linked with the gangster ANTOIN REZKO you mentioned it one time. Can you explain this to me or are you another one of those FAIR AND EQUAL NEWS TEAMS? Why don’t you people just report the news truthfully and let the candidates hang themselves. Quit telling America what they should think and which candidate to choose. The last time I looked we are not as stupid as you people are. HILLARY ALL THE WAY TO THE WHITE HOUSE. Read it and weep.

Obama, the sweet wing of the Change: the audacity of your rudeness.
He snubbed Hillary by pretending not to see her.

Obummer, OprahObama,Obnoxiousama, sorry; I am just having some fun being as petty and childish as Obama. So let’s see, he whines, tattles, tells tales, won’t take responsibility for his own actions and now won’t play nice. Such a child. Grow up and try again in eight years. I will vote for a Woman for President.

This business of the “snub” is pure bunkum. The press is pressing for things to say. Let us get down to the business at hand, electing a democrat and getting rid of Alfred E. Neumann.
Posted by: beege | January 31, 2008, 9:36 pm 9:36 pm
Your video shot does not go to see why Senator Obama was looking the other way. He was looking at and talking to Senator McCaskill. It is interesting that Senator Clinton stated she extended her hand to Senator Obama why she actually extended it to Senator Kennedy. Of course she would not lie about that to get extra votes.

For the first time in generations the whole world has started to think of America as a real land of the FREE,White America has shown that race or creed is unimportant when the future of their country is at stake. The Democrats and America as a whole would gain the respect of the whole world if they complete their brave and honourable journey by electing an unmistakeable talent like obama president,he is indeed a star and unbelievable, well done obama
