Romney “Very Encourag[ed]” by Nevada Polls

ABC’s Matt Stuart reports: Mitt Romney made an early stop at Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas this morning, and said polls have been "very encouraging" for today’s Nevada Caucuses.

Romney was greeted by a crowd of 50 to 75 people, but many seemed to come from outside Nevada.

Romney’s extended family also  made it out of bed for the 7:30 AM event, including two cousins from California, Heidi and Kristin and one, Roderick, from Phoenix.

Romney said the family was out "knocking on doors" to get people to the caucus.

Romney joked about his appearance on the "Tonight" show last night, saying of himself and host Jay Leno, "it takes a big head to know another big head."

Romney also said he was talking with a "skateboarder" who was on the "Tonight" show with him, who spent the whole time on his skateboard like it was attached to his feet. Romney tried to joke that he wished "Nevada was attached to my feet."

Many greeting Romney were from outside of the state. One group said they "came down from Salt Lake City" to help his effort here.

Another group apparently came in from La Canada, CA.

Romney also pointed out his cousin’s husband Brian, who invented a pneumatic pogo stick that goes up to six feet in the air.

Romney said he was happy to have a family that was "inventive, creative and crazy," and compared Brian’s pogo stick to running for President — "In both cases you can get badly injured."

Speaking from the back of a black pickup truck, Romney said he’d "like to win" South Carolina and later said he was pretty confident, based on the polls he’d seen, that he would win Nevada.

Romney then started looking toward Super Tuesday, forgeting about Florida all together, but promising he’d be campaigning in California before Feb. 5.
