Thompson Camp Reports “Smear” Fliers Misleading Record
ABC’s Christine Byun reports: Republican candidate Fred Thompson’s campaign is accusing rival Mike Huckabee’s campaign of more "dirty tricks" in South Carolina.
They say fliers with misleading information about the former Tennessee senator’s abortion record were placed on parked cars at their event venue last night (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/01/thompson-lets-g.html). The fliers insinuate Thompson voted for funding for abortions through a bill that supported Planned Parenthood. Thompson –- who has received the endorsement of national anti-abortion organization National Right to Life –- did vote for the bill in question, H.R. 3061. However, the bill specifically states that it does not include federal funding for abortions and does not mention Planned Parenthood. The flier quotes Scripture –- Proverbs 31:8 –- and includes a picture of the former Senator.
"Sen. Thompson worked in the Senate to ensure that federal funds did not go to abortion," a Thompson campaign spokesman, who provided a copy of a flier, said.
Earlier this week, the Thompson campaign accused Huckabee supporters of push-polling calls.
“These deceptive tactics are yet another sad sign that Gov. Huckabee cannot engage in a substantive discussion of the important public policy issues facing our country,” Dean Rice, the South Carolina campaign manager, said in a written statement.

Don’t worry Matt, Christians see right through the Huckabee lies.

Freedom of speech should not extend to freedom to blatantly misrepresent facts (aka. LIE). As a Christian, Huckabee should be actively distancing himself and condemning these tactics by his supporters. Thou shall not bear false witness! Or do you just pretend the Ten Commandments don’t exist for election purposes? Do the ends justify the means in your eyes?

Come on, guys. There is no way this came straight from the Huckabee campaign. On the eve of the election their staff starved campaign has a LOT better things to be doing.
Could it have been some strange Huckabee supporter that thought this would help? Sure. Or a McCain supporter. Or a Romney supporter. Or a Fred supporter who knows Fred needs all the earned media he can get….even if it’s him whining.
The fact is, no one knows…so quit making assumptions.

I don’t know for sure if the flyers have been positively linked to his supporters, but the push-polling has. The fact of the matter is, Huckabee needs to strongly denounce this sort of behavior, whether he is involved in it or not and he has not done that. If he has, he hasn’t done it very forcefully and that speaks volumns.

That would be volumes. I’ll admit this has me a little riled.

the MSM is looking for a McCain/Huckabee ticket in the fall. they know Huckabee can’t win the nomination but would be perfectly happy with the VP job. that would get him a Federal pension and the possibilities for President next time around (he’s an optimistic kinda guy). they know McCain will not unite the “Reagan conservatives”, giving Barack or Hillary a better chance at winning.
Sad thing is, many people believe the huckleberry because he was a Baptist preacher and don’t do enough research to see the pattern of Iowa, NH, Michigan and now SC.
And John is just an old school Democrat, strong military and big government at home. He has his partner Joe Lieberman campaigning for him in Florida.

Mike Huckabee is a disgrace. His conduct in this campaign has been embarrassing, and he has deeply offended many of us in the pro-troop movements with his counterproductive criticism of the success our troops are achieving in the War on Terror. His constant flip-flopping is shameless, and his inability to campaign without resorting to dirty tricks and lies shows that this man is not in this race to make for a better America, but to serve the ego and personal interest of this fraud and liar.

I am surprised at the conservative Republicans supporting McCain, since Joe Lieberman is supporting him. What in the world were you thinking? McCain is obviously being backed by money from Liebermans friends. We need to fix our economy and all we’ll keep doing is supporting big government hand outs.
Dr Ron Paul is the true conservative and knows what the problems are.
