Voting Lines Out the Door in Nashua, N.H.

ABC News’ Karen Travers Reports: Nashua is New Hampshire’s second largest city and its polls are open until 8:00pm ET. The city leans Democratic but has a high number of registered independents (43 percent)

Nashua City Clerk Paul Bergeron said that even now the lines are out of the door at some polling stations and the ward moderators (who manage the stations) have the discretion to extend polling hours.

Bergeron said what is likely to happy is everyone in line at 8pm ET will be let in and then doors will close.

High turnout and counting of approximately 700 absentee ballots will slow things down in Nashua, Bergeron said, and he does not expect all of their results in until about 9:30-9:45pm ET.

Bergeron thinks Nashua will see 60 percent voter turnout – there are 44,117 registered voters there and the city is Democratic-leaning with a high number of independents (19,544).

He estimated that about 10 percent of the votes cast in Nashua will be newly registered voters who signed up at the polls today. That matches estimates for the state total voter turnout and same-day registrants.
