Bill Clinton, Unplugged: Calls Shuster’s Comments ‘Careless, Crass, Cruel’

On WMAL-AM yesterday in an interview with Chris Plante, former President Bill Clinton implied the media has been unfair to his wife, stated that she was standing up to sexism when she took on NBC, and — when asked about MSNBC’s David Shuster’s comments about his daughter, Chelsea — said there was a double standard.

"If he had made a racial slur against Senator Obama, he would have been fired," Clinton said.

Of his wife’s recent travails, he said, "the caucuses aren’t good for her. They disproportionately favor upper-income voters who, who, don’t really need a president but feel like they need a change."

(An interesting description of caucus voters, and upper-income voters, to say the least.)

Listen to part 1 HERE and part 2 HERE

"I think she has been the underdog ever since Iowa," Clinton said. "She’s had, you know, a lot of the politicians, like Senator Kennedy, opposed to her. She’s had, the political press has avowedly played a role in this election. I’ve never seen this before."

He said they’d done well considering their slim budget. "We’ve gotten plenty of delegates on a shoestring," he said.

He did not mention that his wife’s campaign has raised more than $140 million.

Asked Plante: "You said, Mr. President, that the political press has played a role in this. Do you think the press has been unfair to Senator Clinton, and excessively generous to Barack Obama?

Clinton said of the press, "they’ve been active participants in this election, and you know what the objective studies done. And they’ve, many of them are willing to be quoted on the record. But I don’t want to talk about the press. I want to talk about the people. That’s what’s wrong with this election, people trying to take this election away from the people."

Plante asked about Sen. Clinton’s reaction to the comments Shuster made about Chelsea being "pimped out" by the campaign: "There have been other incidents on MSNBC, where Keith Olbermann, for example, said President Bush was pimping General David Petraeus, where Erin Burnett referred to President Bush twice as ‘the monkey,’" Plante said. "Inappropriate things are said by the press. Do you believe it’s really appropriate for senior government leaders to come down on reporters when they become angry with things that they’ve said?"

Said Clinton, slowly, "I think it was inappropriate for him… to refer …to my daughter ….in the way he did."

He went on, "it was representative of the kind of blatant, careless, crass, cruel remarks that are altogether too common. And I wouldn’t use disrespectful language referring to General Petraeus or anybody else. But I think that it is remarkable how many sexist things have been said in this campaign that have not been reprimanded.

"Hillary never complains when people say things about her or me. But when he involved my daughter, she complained, and I think it was the right thing to do.

"Look, free speech runs two ways, they had to decide, MSNBC decided, they have certainly given their reporters a lot of latitude, their commentators. But free speech runs two ways. And I think that when somebody says something like that, if he had been, made a racial slur against Senator Obama, he would have been fired."

Added the president, "She just stuck up for her daughter, and for girls everywhere, and women everywhere, and it’s about time somebody did after a lot of the rhetoric we’ve been through in this election."

Like I’m going to pay attention to what Bill Clinton thinks is dishonorable to a female? The thoughts of a womanizing man who disgraced the office of President just don’t resonate well.
Careful Bill, we remember Monica and all the others. Your confirmed actions were way more dishonorable than than an unfortunate use of a slang word.

“Look, free speech runs two ways …”
— Bill Clinton
Yes, I remember that from law school. Check your first amendment: “Congress shall pass no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, excepting when a television commentator offends the political campaign of an ex-president’s wife.”

Bill Clinton … the world knows no better defender of the dignity of women.
So the only voters that really matter to Team Clinton are the ones who didn’t actually vote at all?
Someone should ask the electability question about what effect these “caucus-goers don’t matter” statements by Team Clinton will have on turnout and independents in all of the caucus states if Team Clinton wins the nomination. Seems to me that every time Team Clinton says a state was “just a caucus,” more and more people in those states start thinking about McCain.

The depth of the Clintonesque crapola continues to amaze and dumbfound. How does he manage to fit that elephant-sized head in his pants? Some trick, I’d say.

Bill Clinton has every right to defend his daughter. News reporters should be accountable for very stupid and irresponsible remarks. Senator Clinton has taken alot of heat in this election, particularly from men and has remained gracious to the media which is more than I would do. She doesn’t deserve to have her child disrespected for any reason.

“Careless, crass, and cruel… Yup that just about sums up his treatment of Juanita Broaddrick. He should be in jail, for what he’s done. Defender of women? More like predator.

I can’ believe you all are just bashing Bill instead of listening to just one thing he has said and that is… The media is choosing our presidential candidates 9or whoever runs the media.) I want to pick my own candidate. John Edwards would still be in this if he had gotten some press. I think he was too liberal for the powers that be. This country and election are a sham. I didn’t even vote in the primary. Do any of you know what Obama wants?

To all of you idiots out there, there is a difference between a man (married or otherwise) having consensual sex with a woman and what the former president is saying about his daughter being “pimped”. I think you all have been so pimped by the Republican establishment and the media that your decency compass has been skewed, which is obvious by your Clinton hating posts!! Get over it Haters!! Bill is right!!

Come on, shouldn’t someone give him credit for being this brazen? Or maybe shameless is the word, I don’t know.
Look at what he says, it actually makes sense until you conjure the picture of that blue dress. It’s a good try. Could have worked.
It’s just politics. Great entertainment and some laughs, that’s all. It doesn’t matter who runs the White House anyway, haven’t we learned that after all these years?

How many of you will be sad come Novemeber when you realize you have been duped by the media to pick Obama. Obama has never been tested and all of you hoping for a change are stupid. It’s sad b/c when Mc Cain creams him, you all will be lefted thinking, “Bill Clinton was right when he said picking him is like rolling the dice”.
SO much is at stake and you all act the Clintons did not bring up 8 years of prosperity. Sure, it had it’s scandals, but I rather have a President who got caught cheating than one receiving on the job training and getting us stuck in Iraq.
You all should be ashamed of yourself. ONce the Republicans go to work on this guy, they will be nothing left and you Obama supporters will be to blame and DON’T YOU DARE SAY, THE ELECTION WAS STOLEN THIS TIME b/c all of you are pathetic.
I cry sometimes how much you think this election is a game. Even if John Edwards were the nominee, I would support him over Hillary not getting, but Barack Obama, a man who has never been tested and a man who 90% of Blacks are voting for him just b/c of his color and not knowing what the hell he stands for is reprehensible.

President Clinton is absolutely right!! It is DISGRACEFUL how the media has given Obama a free pass in this campaign and not only given Hillary negative press but sexist, downgrading language has been allowed to happen since this campaign started!!
And he was also right in saying if God forbid someone made a racial slur, they would have been fired but sexist comments are not only fair game but people look the other way when women are brought down!

Clinton didn’t bring us prosperity. He just happened to be in power during a time of prosperity. He’s a disgusting man.
For him to complain of sexism is laughable. He and his wife tried to tarnish all his mistresses as whores. The media is giving him a pass on it for now, but just wait until the general election starts. I know some people are tired of it, but I can’t wait. There are so many good questions to ask.
What’s Bill going to do with all his free time in the White House? Will he be allowed any visitors? Who’s going to be on his staff at the Office of the First Lady? Any interns?

Posted by: Mike | February 13, 2008, 9:17 pm 9:17 pm

Mr. John
Cut them some slack. They got used to Bill Clinton, the great communicator. Then came a new President, 9/11 and suddenly the world changed. The President had other priorities when he dealt with the daily war on terror and didn’t have time to get to know the people the way Bill Clinton did. No wonder some got disappointed.
After all this, they need the Obama rush. They need the emotional validation. They need the show. They need that sense of change and hope. Don’t we all need that? That’s why I go to U2 and Springsteen concerts. They prefer Obama shows. It’s about taste, not about stupidity or ignorance.
Sure, one day they’ll get it, but they’ll also have some great memories. That’s life. No big deal.

These medias are all right wing. They gave more airtime to Obama. American needs to stop being stupid before it is too late. Stupids went for Obama because he chants and talks like MLK. American is basically consists a lot of stupid people that was whey Bush got elected twice. They are going to poor and sad always.

I agree with Clinton! I’m not a fan of him — but I love Hillary. She has been treated in the most sexist fashion I have seen in a while. But Bill is wrong about them never influencing elections; they did the same to Howard Dean. The treatment of Hillary exceeds everything I have ever seen in contemporary politics. It is utterly shameful.

How many times are the Clintons are going to bring up race?! What the ___ does Obama’s race have to do with a “sexist” comment about Chelsea? The real analogy to be drawn is ‘what if someone said that Obama’s daughters, which he also has, or his wife.’
First, Clinton has no other person to reference but Jesse Jackson after S. Carolina. Now, this too becomes an opportunity to inject race. Sheesh. I am sorry that the first thing that comes to the Clintons’ collective mind when they think of Obama is the color of his skin. I voted for him for his intellect and character (something Bill Clinton lacks not incidentally).

Posted by: Marie | February 13, 2008, 9:39 pm 9:39 pm

He is correct with what he is saying, some of you may not have daughters but I sure would not like any one to say on national TV that my daughter was “pimping”, man how low can some of you get with this election? It seems as if everything is fair game now, crass talk, lies, half-truth, bashing, insulting and so on. Its a daily does of this stuff, sorry to say if this is what elections in this country is coming to because we have the first AA running for President and is now the front runner well we better close up shop and never have another election again it sure is getting down right nasty. No matter what your dislikes of the Clinton’s are no family deserves that kind of treatment, its really starting to look as if its not worth it.

Posted by: SJ | February 13, 2008, 9:50 pm 9:50 pm

*correction, about Obama’s daughters.
Also, I am tired of the excuses for Clinton’s losses and her lack of graciousness.
Let’s see -caucuses don’t matter (except Nevada), places where the black vote is high don’t matter, red states don’t matter (except TX, for example), purple states don’t matter (except VA, before she lost it), places with incomes over 50K don’t matter, places where whites and women betray the Clinton machine don’t matter. When did only a handful of states out of the 50 UNITED States become the only important ones? Why do we hear this even after she loses the pledged delegate lead and the popular vote?
I want a president who does not make excuses. Similarly, on the war in Iraq, I would have loved for Hillary to can all the excuses and say: ‘I made a bad decision. I am sorry, and I cannot take it back, but I am not too stubborn to change my mind and to do what it is necessary to reverse this horrible trajectory. I take this very seriously, and know that lives have been lost. I take this to bed with me, every night. Right now, what is important is that Sen. Obama and I are on the same page with respect to carefully withdrawing our troops -and I am prepared to move forward with that on Day 1.’
I could have voted for her if she said something like that. I know, I know, maybe she thinks admitting two big wrongs (healthcare in the 90s and then this) would be too much… but if you admit where you were wrong you can stop the bleeding. She never stopped the bleeding from that Iraq vote because she kept justifying it with increasingly nonsensical justifications. Okay, off my soapbox.

Posted by: Marie | February 13, 2008, 9:50 pm 9:50 pm

Dear Marie
I’m sorry, but the United States can’t leave Iraq the way Obama claims is possible. If you invade a country, then you’ve got international responsibilities.
He’s lying. On the other hand, it’s nothing personal, only politics.

I am a HC supporter. But, when it comes to being darling of the press I have to say that what goes around comes around. Was candidate Clinton not the 1991 darling of the press? It’s too bad that HC has to bear the brunt of that boomerang.

Posted by: esvida | February 13, 2008, 10:07 pm 10:07 pm

Hillary should point out– Obama has NEVER been to Iraq, so how could he possibly ever lead us out of the middle east safely? Hillary has been to Iraq multiple times and met with military leaders. She is better positioned to protect our country than unexperienced Obama. A war veteran hero like McCain will crush Obama. Here are the facts people: When Obama read a report that there was a WMD, he voted AGAINST protecting America.

I agree that Bill Clinton should not sit in judgment against anyone who utters a sexist remark. But Hillary is the one who chose to defend her daughter — and rightly so! Forget Bill. Hillary hasn’t done anything wrong and she loves her daughter just as any mother does. It was a terrible thing for this reporter (????) to say about ANYONE’S daughter!

Imagine the uproar if some pundit had said Obama was pimping out his wife! The unaddressed rampant sexism in this primary season is sometimes subtle but also extreme. Did anyone notice how Obama jumped up to pull out Hillary’s chair after their last debate (as if she needed that help)? And then, interestingly, he needed help getting unplugged from his microphone.

Posted by: Lori | February 13, 2008, 10:51 pm 10:51 pm

Just saw Matt Dowd (a former Bush employee) say that he thinks sexism is still more acceptable in this country than racism. I do agree. Why aren’t we talking about that?

Posted by: Lori | February 13, 2008, 10:58 pm 10:58 pm

Every man should have a daughter. When my daughter was born it changed me. I started paying attention to many new things – from: how women were treated in the workplace – to making sure that I placed the toilet seat in the upright position at all times.
If someone makes a derogatory comment or places an inappropriate remark in my daughter’s direction – I do not let it go.
Hillary and Bill Clinton – have every right to look after their daughter.
Regarding MSNBC – the President was correct in his statement. Mr. Mathews is in love with Sen. Obama – he has said as much in his commentary. Keith Olbermann – well we all know that is must have been promised – a great job by the Obama people.
Injecting racism into the campaign – Sen. Obama has already taken care of that. Before the South Carolina primary he made a comment about not knowing if President Clinton could dance like a “ brother “.
Sen. Obama has gotten a free ride in the press, e.g.:
- No comments about his shady (Chicago Tribune) real-estate deal
- Youth work in Chicago – must have paid a lot to afford a million dollar plus house
- The Sen. has birth-rights to 3 different nationalities: US, British, and Kenyan.
At the time of the Senators birth, the Senator’s father was a Kenyan Crown Colony born British subject in possession of the British nationality. At the time the Kenyan constitution came of power in 1963 – Sen. Obama automatically became a citizen of Kenyan –
Has the Sen. renounced these officially? If not – he still has them. I know – my background is similar.
Free ride? Yes – of course

to all you people out there, teach cnn, msnbc and all others for trashing Hillary, cancel your cable and let them know why. I did it myself. If thousands of us will do that, they will learn a lesson very quick. It’s time for us women to take a stand

Since entrance/exit polls have only been conducted in two of the ten caucus states thus far (Iowa and Nevada), it isn’t possible for Bill Clinton or anyone else to characterize the income level of caucus attenders versus primary voters. Hillary and Bill are sore losers, continually trying to make themselves out as victims of the system. It’s your system, Clintons — you created it, as well as the primary and caucus calendar. Wouldn’t it be great if the Clinton campaign could learn a lesson from Little Leaguers — congratulate a victorious opponent, and acknowledge that Hillary is losing races fair and square.

Posted by: Julian | February 13, 2008, 11:56 pm 11:56 pm

Exit polls were taken by different organizations during the Nevada, Iowa, Washington, Idaho, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Maine caucuses. Sen. Obama won these. Not one of the Caucuses attracted more than 30% of the registered voters (websites of respective Sec. of State Offices of the states mentioned above). So — Sen., Obama won these with 65% of 30% = 19.5% of the vote from registered voters.
Additionally
Does anyone really believe that the delegates from Florida will not be seated at the convention? Can a Democrat win the White House without the full support of the nearly 2 million democratic voters in Florida – their votes and their money?

I have stopped watching C. Matthews, and K. Olberman (who I had really liked and watched faithfully) because of their prejudicial statements against Hillary and slavish swooning over Obama. Olberman used to be fair-handed but he seems to have given up on that. And Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert have also lost my viewership. Hillary-bashing has become tedious to watch, just as Gore-bashing was in the 2000 election. Hillary in 2008 — you go,girl!

David Shuster wasn’t even commenting on Chelsea at all. He was commenting on the Clinton campaign. He was certainly incorrect to say that they were “pimping” her out, since Chelsea is 27 years old and is obviously supporting her mother out of her own volition, but how was it a sexist comment? Do only women get “pimped out”? How does Bill manage to suck Obama into this, and why does he always talk about race whenever he mentions him?

It is totally disgusting and outright shameful the comments directed towards the Clinton’s daughter. That the media outlet would try to justify it would bring your morality into question.
What is apparent as the world watches this election is the blatient bias of the media with no concern who you offend. Is that the kind of election process in foreign policy where elections would be setup in other countries. So shameful cause you the media would receive “America media go home”. So many people around the whole world are praying and want the best for the United States of America. Shame the media does not represent it rather you are a hinderance to it.

It is a sad commentary on the state of ethics and acceptable conduct in this nation when a national news commentator would make such a disparaging remark about a former President’s daughter. Equally distressing is the fact that so many of our fellow citizens happily join in the guttersniping and wallow in the mud and filth like they belong there. I have not seen a U.S. Presidential candidate and family, so maligned since Robert Kennedy in 1968. We have a growing portion of our electorate, intellectually incapable of debating the issues, but who thrill at the opportunity to spread poison and to unmercifully condemn our candidates and leaders. We know the character composition of these poor minded, needy souls from being subjected to their obscenities and absurdities. May God enlighten them.

I mean, here’s a guy who doesn’t have a CLUE about defense , economy, or much of anything else and yet he’s somehow, managed to pull the wool over a lot of people’s eyes. Even more shocking, here’s a guy who is against war, but wallows in the river of freedom, hides behind the blanket of bravery and is a danger to the freedom we fought so hard to obtain. I’m a Clinton supporter, but if she isn’t nominated for the Democratic ticket, I’ll vote for John McCain to be the next President of the United States.

It must be very gratifying to women everywhere to know that Bill Clinton is championing their cause. It has to be especially comforting to Paula Jones, Kathleen Wiley, and Monica Lewinsky. That the former president has humiliated his wife throughout their marriage makes his remark completely laughable. What would he say to Chelsea’s future husband if he dishonored her in the same way? And what does it say about Hillary Clinton’s desire for power that she would stay in such an “arrangement”? I believe it says she is a whore for power.

The articles about “how to fix” Hillary’s campaign miss a crucial point. If Hillary can answer the Mitt Romney challenge she can turn things around. Romney stated the unspoken fear of MOST Americans “The prospect of Bill Clinton running around the White House with nothing to do [and with young females around] is not one I relish.” Hillary has experience by osmosis and her pre-Senator experience is bad — Hillarycare, Pork Belly Futures, Whitewater Billing Records, an alleged affair with Foster. All that can be forgiven if she TELLS US what she will do with Bill. The uncertainty about Bill [and about Bill's ability to weigh Hillary down emotionally] is sitting unspoken in every voter’s mind. All Al Queda has to do is plant a few beautiful and available females in an HRC White House to capture Bill’s affections and create a nasty distraction for Hillary. With HRC emotionally screwed up at that point all of the US is vulnerable. The key to a future HRC presidency is knowing what with be done with Bill. {I recommend ambassador to Russia}

Stop and think! Forget that the comment involved the Clinton family and imagine that it involved your daughter. If your daughter represented you at some function and David Shuster, on public television, said you were “pimping her out”, how would you feel? Mr. Shuster got caught up in Chris Matthews’ blatant dislike of Hillary Clinton and he should be fired. So should Matthews.

I’m sure Chelsea Clinton is a good woman but the parents sound like Harry Truman when his daughter was criticized for singing ability. I really don’t think Bill Clinton has any right to speak about respect for women.
Jennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, and Monica Lewinsky are a good indication of how much respected his family.
He put them through far worse than a poorly phrased comment. They are all the butt of jokes to this day because of his behavioral issues.

Can you actually believe that Bill Clinton can make these comments about women with a straight face? What massive conceit and denial this man has. Also his regal arrogance of dominion over the press and the thoughts of voters in American is astounding. He and Hilary don’t have enough humility to effectively lead a democracy.

I agree with the thrust of Clinton’s comments regarding the lack of civility and coarseness on MSNBC. I wish his comments were taken more objectively. It’s long overdue.

where are the glorious Bush daughters ??? The republicans are so afraid of a smarter than they are women and of course they want to run against Obama as his name alone will be a great swiftboat subject. Some Da! americans believed george was the war hero and he was the one who had recieved many medals while it was Sen kerry who cut and run. Bush cut and run on his service to this country and now he sends other young people to war. How can a real american back that ——–.

If politics is a game, the Dems better realize that Republicans are far more ruthless in pursuit of power than they ever will be. Part of the reason the Clintons are so devisive is because Bill beat them at the game and was willing to “take no prisoners”. I think the reason the press is so universally for Obama is because they aspire for the hope he promises. The fall campaign, if it were McCain vs. Clinton, would be hardest on women — who would finally embrace their suffrage in wholehearted rejection. Clinton wins easily. McCain vs. Obama is going to be hard for everybody — the swiftboaters will “color” the campaign in such a way that Obama, even if he were to somehow win, would have an even more fractured electorate to try to pull together. No change will ever come of that. JFK comes again? Martin? Bobby? Look what trying to bring hope to the people did for them. The hopes of an entire generation were so easily blown away. Obama is the “Do Over” candidate for elites, the young people of this nation, and the press who romanticize all that could have been and never was … and will be again.

Both Billy Bob and Queen Hillary voluntarily drops their daughter into the arena pit and then want to complain that a tiger bit their daughter? Besides all that, this is a skirt chaser with zero morality who has demeaned his wife and all women through Monica. Why should he care about his daughter?? Give me a break!

The fact that the statement about Chelsea Clinton were made by MSNBC came to me as no surprise. My grandson Carl was shot by the Burban police in the back eight time while sitting in a car wearing his seatbelt. They shot him eight times in the back. When I called NBC and reported the carnige and ask if they could put a short report on the local news to warn the public I was told the story “HAD NO INTERTAINMENT VALUE!!!!” This should give anybody a warning about the moral and ethical standards practiced by NBC, and MSNBC.

To the many of you who think Chris Matthews is against hillary, I suspect you don’t watch his show. Since the last election in 2004 she’s ALL he talks about and not in a negitive light.Any guest he’s had in the past three years a question about her and the presidency is never far away.

Posted by: bob | February 14, 2008, 8:45 am 8:45 am

But now I hear that Hillary has agreed to drop her threat to boycott debating on MSNBC.
I guess the free media exposure, given the shoe-string nature of her campaign despite the fact she raised and spent over $140 million, is worth more than her ‘principled’ stand for her daughter.
I guess being a mother first is only useful for a few days worth of media exposure and then it’s back to being a manipulative politician first…..

You Americans are such hypocriticalprudes! Or is it prudish hypocrites?
Most of you brought up by the Idiot Box, with hamburgers, coca-cola and chips for food.
Most of you are egocentric, arrogant, two-dimensional, ignoramuses with attention span of a 4-year old.
What you call “great American Middle Class”, we in Europe snicker at as “petit bourgeois”
Most of you confuse convenience with freedom.
You as a country ought to consider yourself unbelievably lucky, and be proud that an intelligent, learned man like Bill Clinton was your President.
Any democratic country in the world
would’ve been proud to have him as leader. But your level is George W. Bush! A very decent man, indeed…

Posted by: Stratrider | February 14, 2008, 8:47 am 8:47 am

Every time Bill Clinton speaks my “lie-dar” runs off the charts. The hypocrisies of his support for “women” and his unrelenting pursuit to provoke racism are merely self gratifying attempts to massage indecisive voters matching profiles.
Hillary already addressed this issue; Bill pursues it, pimps it again, in desperate attempt to garnish the support of women voters in Texas.
Women, we don’t need Hillary as a representative for our cause! Just because she’s running for President doesn’t negate the fact she ignored her husband’s infidelities. Quite frankly I’d rather my daughter emulate someone with higher standards.

Some of you have a problem looking at reality…as they say..it is what it is…not what “Dude ..I wish it was..”
The wallet is mighter than your vote.
I see demos not voting him in or voting for McCain if given the choice…..
old school racism will never go away anywhere..it’s existed all over the world for centuries, what makes the USA different?

I can’t stand Bill Clinton, but he is correct for standing up for his daughter. The MSNBC comments were WAY out of line, and had Shuster called Obama’s daughters “ho’s” — a la Don Imus — Shuster (rightfully) would have fired. In this case he got off light with a suspension.
p.s. People, the Swift Boat accusations are true. Kerry went to Vietnam, managed to alienate 90% of his platoon, left early, and disparaged every American vet upon his return with false allegations and out right lies. Get over it.

The reason David Shuster’s comment stung is because it’s true. Senator Clinton is sending Chelsea out to campaign for her, Shuster’s choice of words is suspect but not the meaning.
I like Senator Clinton and if she win’s the nomination I will vote for her because unlike Tom I am a Democrat. However I won’t be happy about it and I think she will lose to John McCain because I think a lot of people like me are sick and tired of the Bushes and the Clintons! There has been one or the other in/near the White House since 1980 when Bush (40) was VP that’s nearly 30 years:-0 time to move on.
To Tom: vote for McCain good riddance to you, your republican!
But in this election we need to replace the Bush’s and the Clinton’s and the Kennedy’s and McCain’s and the rest of the old guard. You have run the course and made America great and strong. You taught the world that democracy can survive through the best of times and the worst of times. But the time has come to rest on the laurels you have earned and let the next generation take over to learn for your triumphs and defeats to take America to its next destination in history.

That person should be fired!!!! The Clintons should follow their friend’s example,(you know, the Bush’s), how many times did something negative came out about the Bush girls??? You did not see the President step up demanding this or that. But when it comes to Chelsea, not Chelsea!!!, She is the vestal virgin reborn!!! Here is a clue, she is a woman now, she can take care of herself!!! People are going to say what they are going to say regardless of what you do or say to try to prevent it. IT IS A THEIR RIGHT TO!!!!! Hello, this is the USA!!! Is this what we are heading to, with the Clintons in power? Suppression of the 1st Amendment!!! Do a little more campaigning and a little less crying Bill & Hillary, it is getting to the point that is all I am hearing out of the both of you!!! Here’s a clue for down the road, LIFE IS NOT FAIR!!! And no amount of universal health care can cure that!!

Yes, the language used with respect to Chelsea Clinton was not the best. However, Chelsea Clinton is not a little girl, she is an adult and she has chosen to get involved in a political campaign. It goes with the territory. Sorry, but it does. The Clintons should have just shrugged it off.

Posted by: Jim | February 14, 2008, 9:23 am 9:23 am

If you listen to Barack, what he says does not make sense and he has no detailed plan to get it done. People are voting based on his race and that is racism. He is offering everything.
-Reduce Health care premiums by $2500, most people do not pay that much
-Get us out of Iraq within a year, not feasible. I am not for the war and Barack has never been in the military. You have to take into account American citiZens, Iraqi informants, American generals, and American solders that are there.
-Give illegal immigrants drivers license, THEIR ILLEGAL!

This whole race is about HIM. Forget Hillary. I want his ugly mug off camera and out of sight. He’s made MILLIONS giving speeches about what HE thinks and I think it’s about time he leave the stage. Now he’s poormouthing about no money for the campaign. Spend some of the millions you and Hillary have made giving redundant speeches to the blind sheep who still think you are relevant.

Posted by: Richard Terrell | February 14, 2008, 9:24 am 9:24 am

The reporter didn’t disparage Chelsea. The comment was directed at her sorry parents.
If Hillary wins, Bill will still run the show. Hillary is just a token to get him back in office.
And it’s quite obvious the empty suit named Obama is getting a lot of white votes so they (the white voters) can show the world that they aren’t “racist.”
Can’t one be against these two simply because NEITHER is qualified for the office? Then again, neither is McCain. It is a pretty sorry situation the country is in these days.

Posted by: elbob | February 14, 2008, 9:30 am 9:30 am

Dear Will,
“What makes the U.S. different?” Not people like you. Keep to the issue at hand. – This is not about “race”. Get your head from under you and face reality. We are all part of the same race “THE HUMAN RACE”. My God man this is ’2008. The U.S. is a melting pot. It is time that we as a people accept this. Racial labels are offensive. When we label, we lose out on the really interesting aspects of people. When we stop labeling people will come together and we will have no excuse for WAR, HATRED, or DIVISIVENESS. “Yes we can.”
P.S. “On the job training.” – I have confidence that Sen. Obama will choose an effective Cabinet that with his “vision” will steer the U.S. through its darkest days.

Posted by: m | February 14, 2008, 9:32 am 9:32 am

Hey ‘m’ the darkest days would be if Obama gets elected! So you really want unknown people running the country vote Obama, if you want to know who runs the country vote anyone else!
As far as Hilary and Bill well welcome to what Republicans are putting up with, but dont worry if Hilary wins the nomination the Liberal media will go back to treating her with kid gloves!!
Obama has no Clue, his blinded supporters can even say what he stands for , just Change, well do they know the change he wants is to destroy our Constitution and bring Socialism here!! This man says nothing, his blinded supporters say his qualifications are his looks, well then elect Brad Pitt or J LO!!

You can whine about all the unfair things that have happened, are happening or will happen; but, not a one of them will change the inevitable outcome of the Democratic primary — Obama is going to be the nominee.
This is like watching an object drop from the sky — the journey is interesting but the final result is immutable — CRUNCH!
The Clintons — Bill, Hill, Chels — are done. Fair? Who cares?
As the Godfather said: “This is the life we have chosen.”
Stop whining!

The Clinton’s have disparaged others for years and years. Hillary attacked the character of the women Bill groped. Bill has attacked Obama through the race issue inuendos. The Clinton’s have both engaged in the politics of personal destruction time after time.
Now they are “incensed and outraged” over a “pimping” comment? Yeah right – sure they are. Time for the liers in chief to depart American politics once and for all. Good ridance to bad rubish.

Clinton’s affair with Lewinsky doesn’t excuse NBC reps calling his daughter names a Hip-Hop star would be slammed for. Too many on this forum are sleepwalkingly voting for Obama on some warped anti-Clinton trip.
How the most powerful nation on the Planet has been reduced to Cable Tv positive_like platitudes about change – no Blue or red states yuk is disturbing. Obama, regardless of what you think of the Clintons isn’t ready for the Whitehouse. some person has chosen to blame the Clintons for some Blue-collared peoples’ opinions about race & voting.
As a Black Brit, who grew up in the USa – I find the constant charge of racism against the Clintons unfair & deeply regressive. There seems a White_guilt trip that says scrutiny of policies of Black people like myself is racist. I say non equal scrutiny of policies is racist.
That Obama’s Iraq stand & press non-scrutiny is fairytale ain’t racist, that LBJ did a lot to advance civil rights ain’t diminishing MLK jnr’s legacy, that Jesse Jackson won S.Carolina is fact.
sexism towards Hillary & the attitude of many to Romney’s mormonism are more pressing issues. I maintain the mass rush of many African Americans to vote for Obama regardless of opponent or policy is a form of reverse racism. The abuse the likes of Magic Johnson & Maya Angelou have gotten form Blacks for supporting Hillary is a disgrace to my race.

Apropos Shuster’s comment: People seem to miss two very important points: The first is that Shusters’s off-the-cuff remark referred to the Hillary’s rather cynical use of her daughter, and not the daughter herself. The second is the context, specifically Hillary’s willingness to put her daughter on display when it suits her purpose, but then to deny the media access to Chelsea, insisting the young woman is not a public figure. It’s a typical Clintonesque ploy—they want it both ways, and complain bitterly when they can’t have it. Finally, an interview with Bill Clinton is entirely beside the point, as he’s incapable of telling the truth—it seems now journalists interview him for sport, so after the fact, people can remark on the man’s compulsive lying and naked hypocrisy.

I see that the former president is taking a page from his time-honored playbook: if things aren’t going your way, complain of unfair treatment and inherent inequality of press coverage, along with anything else you want to vent about. If Sen. Clinton does not become the nominee of her party, it will be mostly due to her whining scold of a husband!

He said “people are trying to take this election out of the hands of the people.” Digest that one, please, since Hillary wants Florida and Michigan to be seated, though they broke the rules and held their primary races early? Who’s taking it out of the hands of the people? From what I’ve heard, Obama wants the will of the people voted by superdelegates, not Hillary and Bill strong arming them to vote for her .. or worse yet, buying their votes with favors. Bill, and Hillary, I have one thing to say to both of you:
The will of the people will be done. Your lies and your cheats won’t work on this one.

Posted by: Cathi | February 14, 2008, 10:04 am 10:04 am

If one thinks about it, how can the press (or anyone else) weigh in in favor of Obama for President over Hillary Clinton? Obama lacks the international and domestic experience in government aptly to lead the country. He is essentially “untried.” McCain can bury him. The press should have pressed O’s inexperience. Now it appears it may be too late, – he’ll get the nomination and lose the election, whereas Hillary could and should beat MCain **based on her record.** The **record** is what the press should be emphasizing, not general rhetoric for “change.” Change to what? How? Tell us Obama, I’m waiting. We know what Hillary or McCain would do if elected. We do not know what you, Obama, can do or accomplish. Better yet, what have you done so far as a senator??? You haven’t been telling or emphasizing that. Why not? Hillary tells us what she’s done. We know what McCain’s done and will do. The press needs to take the **mystery** out of the Obama campaign, but apparently the press is making money not doing that, – promoting the improbable fairy tale. By doing so, they are pulling a “Nader,” – favoring someone who can’t get elected President. You don’t send a triple-A hitter up against a Major league pitcher in the World Series. You season him first in the AAA and see how he performs over time before moving him up. No one needs a .190 batting shortstop with excellent glove or lip.

wasn’t it Webb Hubble who described the clintons as a “tornado that blows through peoples lives, destroying everything in it’s path” or something to that effect?

As a Republican who suffered through two Bill Clinton campaigns, I am literally laughing out loud at Bill’s indignation. The preferential media coverage he received in 1992 and 1996 was nothing short of sickening..I can still remember Katie Couric’s insipid fawning interviews. Guess it was okay then. Never thought I’d have the pleasure of seeing the Clinton’s on the wrong side of the left-wing media bias.

Why wasn’t OLberHead suspended and condemned for saying Bush was pimping out Petraeus? double standard!

Posted by: Sam | February 14, 2008, 10:33 am 10:33 am

First, the HRC CAMPAIGN brought Chelsea out (product for sale) to bring in the young voters currently being courted by Obama (item to be bought). In return for Chelsea being put on the block, her mother (who profits from said sale) would be back in the WH (outcome of the sale) – that’s another form of prostitution in my eyes. There’s something someone can sell/display/use to gain something for someone else (the pimp) thus Chelsea was pimped by her mothers CAMPAIGN! It’s sad to hear such things being said in public but that’s the world being touted by the powers that be (ie, Hollywood).
Second, it’s great to hear all the liberals crying about media bias! Payback is fun! This is how it feels to hear the vast left-wing media blast GWB day in and day out! Turn off the TV, do your own research on each candidate and vote using YOUR brain instead of the junk being spouted by the media. If enough of you turn off the tv and cancel your cable service, believe me, the media would get the hint very fast as the almighty dollar speaks volumes! Instead of having 24/7 news COMMENTARY, there might actually be some real reporters REPORTING the news instead of trying to convert the listeners to their way of thinking (that’s what editorials are for the last time I looked).
Third, if Hill and Bill were so good the first time around, why did we have 9/11 in the first place?!?! There wouldn’t have been any reason to go into Iraq if Bill had worked on ending Osama’s reign of terror instead of sexually harassing women all day and all night! And where was the co-president during the first WTC bombing or any of the many other acts of terrorism going on during the 1990′s? Oh yeah that’s right, she was busy traveling (with her highly protected daughter) around the world – on the taxpayers buck – doing absolutely nothing!
Complain on – it’s music to my ears!

Reviewing Hillary’s methodical playing of the “Race card”, and “The Perpetual Victim” against Obama; and, her recent commentary on Iraq; Pakistan; Energy Policy; the need for her to control the 14 Trillion $ American Economy from her White House Politburo (this from a woman who hasn’t managed so much as a corner vegetable stand, or for that matter her own marriage; but, of course you could count Whitewater, and her tenure as “Madam” for Bill’s White House Brothel); her Marxist statement in San Francisco: “We’re going to have to take more from you, and give it to others for the common good.”; Illegal Immigration; Taxes; Infanticide; Massive new Government spending; Multi million $ Senate earmarks for supporters of Hillary’s Presidential campaign; Garnishing of your wages to fund her coveted Socialized medicine program; and, the Clinton’s history of emasculating the military, verifies that this grievously flawed woman would be the female version of the Jimmy Carter debacle that gave us the Ayatollah Khomeini who ushered in rampant Islamic radicalism; block-long lines at our gasoline stations; a severely hollow military; and, a record Misery Index. Only much worse. Considering all of her recent gaffes, e.g. “I voted FOR IT (referring to the Bankruptcy Bill); but, I was glad to see that it didn’t pass.”; and, her increasingly frequent crying jags, one has to wonder if excessive use of Botox has affected her mental stability. It’s no wonder that her campaign staff is shielding her from reporter and audience unscripted questions. The prospect of Madam Hillary as President; in a word: TERRIFYING. Greg Neubeck

Americans have lost the grace and the ability to be kind and civil to each other. I see only reverse racism practised by Obama who practically has not a clue on leading the USA. His vocabulary comprises only the word “change’ and anymorequestions on the substance and what it means, he is lost. It truly is a crying shame what Bush has done to Americans. He had made them yearning so much for change, even a moron like Obama seems refreshing. After eight years of a dumb Bush, they are now picking an equally dumb orator. What a shame indeed!

Chelsea believes in her mother’s leadership and is working in the campaign. She hasn’t done anything other family members haven’t done in campaigns past and present, including Michelle Obama. She’s very effective, especially with young people.

Posted by: Lou | February 14, 2008, 11:16 am 11:16 am

“Chelsea shouldn’t be subjected to vulgarities though, regardless of having high-profile parents.”
It was vulgar, yes, but the fact is, the vulgarity was aimed at the operators of the campaign. That is Mrs. Clinton and staff. While it was a vulgar description, it was an accurate one. They are using their daughter to gain votes. Period.

Obama supporters seem to be looking in the past a lot as a means of avoiding the real issues.
And to keep bringing Bill into this, no wonder you support Obama, you’re all jealous of the accomplished man that Bill is. You’re Billophobic because you can’t be like him. It’s easy to look better than Obama.

Clinton’s daughter has excluded herself from all the others by repeatedly telling reporters in the past that she doesn’t speak to reporters. Well – until her mother started loosing. Then everything changed. Pimping out does seem to fit – Clintons will stop at nothing to get what they want. Including using their daughter.

What a country! The once most respected model of democracy has become totally focussed on sexual morality developed by a collection of long dead, probable perverts trying to achieve monetary advantage over their fellows. Why has a large part of the non-Islam world been able to move forward in matters of human sexuality while America is busy trying to catch up with the repressive sexual morality of its Islamic enemies?
The use of sex terminology to comment on the candidates and the apparent deep concern with the candidates, their friends, acquantances and even their pets sexual activities past, present and future suggest there is something very wrong with the would-be voters. Sexual morality seems to be the most important issue in the election, not poverty, not “the war”, not the erosion of civil and legal rights, not the healthcare crisis, not the diminishing quality of life for the average American, just sexual morality. Sexuality is part of human nature. There is no correct or incorrect methods, practices, viewpoints or philosophies about it. As long as whatever happens is acceptable to the parties involved, voyeurs should either silently watch or concern themselves with something else. Fornication in the middle of the road should be considered a safety issue not one of moral turpitude.
The comment about Chelsea was inappropriate and if it was an attempt to be funny, it was not. President Clinton’s displeasure and his comments were justified as any father’s complaints in a similar situation would be. The mention of President Clinton’s past sexual exploits, while evidently extremely distressing to some, were between consenting adults and only of concern to the parties involved and totally irrelevant to the situation at hand.
BTW to throwing stones: who cares what you remember? If you are going to vote based on someone else’s past actions you are living proof the world was created at the time Bishop Usher said it was.

She can’t.I look at her and I hear Tammy Wynette’s “Stand by your man” Gloria Steinen’s recent praise in the NYTimes is blatant gibberish and a slap in the face to the woman’s Lib movement Most .Americans believes her candidacy is in reality a 2fer.and I believe most Americans reject this.If Hillary would rid herself of this cancer (divorce his butt) and do it real soon. She would be embraced by the million who now reject her.

The total lack of self awareness of the Clintons continues to astonish and amaze me. Bill says “I don’t want to talk about the press. I want to talk about the people. That’s what’s wrong with this election, people trying to take this election away from the people.” Yet that is EXACTLY what Hillary and her staff are trying to do by arguing that superdelegates (i.e. unelected party officials)should give her this election even if she is behind in the popular vote and in pledged delegates. And if that doesn’t work, then she wants to count the FL and MI delegates when she agreed ahead of time to the rules. Unbelievable that anyone could ever vote for such a pair of hucksters!

1. My comment, “A jet fighter never looks in his rear view mirror” had nothing to do with George W. Bush. It was told to me by a “real” jet fighter pilot who was in combat action and when he told that phrase, it was in reference to life. One should never look back but keep your eyes on what’s ahead. That was my interpretation of it and i was referencing it to everyone who looks to the past, the oh so boring past here on Bill and Monica that is old news.
2. I know it’s an article about Bill, Pepe!!! But this is the comment section and I’m commenting on the fact that it’s being brought up again. The oh so boring past here on Bill and Monica that is old news.
3. The President of the USA not on par with an intern…I’m not excusing him or his judgement but we are created equal and that at the end of the day we are all human. What fantasy world do you live in.
4. 21 year old with a fifty year old man…Hmmm, wow, that’s never happened before, talk about naive.
5. Boss on par with intern, Hmmm, how old is the intern. How about a married college professer with a 19 year old student?? Do you read the paper and how old are you??
6. Look at your #6…cool, I don’t think so for I am a devoted husband who would never stray…never have after 20 years. Realistic, yea, I’ve seen a lot in my lifetime, nothing suprises me.
7. My daughter is 19 and on the pill…how do I know, because we communicate! Also I don’t think of her in any position but you know what, I’m sure my wife’s father doesn’t think about his daughter with me…some guys just don’t go there.

David Shuster might have just sealed the election for Obama… I bet the Clinton’s discussed and were planning on using Chelsea more… I grew up with a friend who turned out to be psychotic. I learned the only way to beat him was to tell everyone every trick he likes to do (which by the way remind me of every trick Bill and Hillary have done, the crying, the labeling of people that have you figured out as “obsessed”, even reading the stories of people who worked with the Clinton’s like Dick Morris remind me of exact events I went through with this kid). When I called Jason out on all of his little tricks he wasn’t able to do those tricks and he eventually through time lost all of his “friends”. [That my friends is the sure fire way to beat Hillary in a campaign, you call her out on everything in the beginning even if it makes you look stupid, then she will dig her own grave, you just have to had her the shovel] Oh, and ah by the way, never in my life has the word “friend” been said and people trying to figure out the definition of the word “friend” then in that time of my life growing up with Jason. Now I watch the TV and the word “friend” is used in such a way by so many people who know the Clintons that it reminds me of this psychotic friend I grew up with…

When did we TOTALLY lose our ability to treat and speak to and about people and events in a civilized manner in this country? It’s not about free speech alone, it’s about common decency.
MOST of us, regardless of our own faults or indiscretions will defend our children, regardless of how “grownup” they become. This man is a representative of the public media and it is time they were held accountable to behave like intelligent journalists.
If you are thinking that it was okay to refer to Chealsea being “pimped out” because she is doing some campaigning for her mother–what about the use of the phrase “pimped out his wife, Michelle, to campaign for him” in referrence to Sen Obama. How do you suppose the press and Sen Obama and Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and the NAACP ,etc. would’ve reacted to that?
It all goes back to the dispespect for common decency that the media has come to refer to as their right to free speech–as well as still trying to keep that glass ceiling firmly planted on the female head.
By the way, I am A 70 yr old female, and I don’t believe I’ve seen an election covered so unfairly as this current one, and that includes both parties.

With Hillary losing a foothold on her apparent destiny to become POTUS, does anybody else out there think that Mr. Obama’s security staff needs to be very diligent in their protection of the candidate? The Clinton’s have time after time proven they will do ANYTHING to win. Remember, she has somehow been deemed the “rightful heir” to the presidential throne. Is a revisiting of what happened June 1968 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles in order? Not to play Oliver Stone here, but if backed into a corner, would Bill and Hillary play the one card they know would secure the nomination? I’m not a right-wing loon (registed Dem) by the way, just wondering how dangerously far the Clinton’s thirst for power run?

As the interviewer implied, why is it any more appropriate for the Clintons to complain about what is said about Chelsea than for Barbara Bush to complain about what is said about her son, the POTUS? Just like GWB, Chelsea has willingly and knowingly entered the political arena. If the Clintons want to continue to take advantage of Chelsea’s talents in convincing superdelegates to vote for her mother, they need to get thicker skin…

Clinton has spent more than $120 million – with the possible exception of Obama, that’s more than anyone has ever spent for a party nomination – in any race, any year, any country, and probably any planet.
Of all the absurd things I’ve heard Bill say this campaign season, saying she’d gotten her delegates on a shoestring budget is just, well, beyond absurd.
They may be on a shoestring now, but certainly hadn’t been while winning their delegates.
Eh, why bother – I saw the Rasmussen Reports tracking poll yesterday and today, and its over. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if people start advising Clinton to concede before Wisconsin. Not sure she’ll listen, but she’ll be hearing that, and from trusted friends.

Puhleeze! This whole controversy over Shister using the term “pimped out” is ridiculous. It’s a figure of speach. He’s not literally calling Chelsea Clinto a whore. The only reason this is a big deal is because Hillary’s campaign wants to play the victim, and MSNBC is bending over backwards to kiss her backside because they don’t want her to pull out of the upcoming debate on their network.
That’s ALL this is about. If you think otherwise, then you’re just naive.
As one of the first commenters pointed out, I love how Bill comes out and talks about offending women. If anyone would know it would be him. He’s done plenty of offensive things to women.

Posted by: stgeorgeschapel | February 14, 2008, 12:32 pm 12:32 pm

I certainly agree with Mr. Clinton that the comments about his daughter were untrue cheap shots. However, Hillary being an underdog is a fairytale. Hillary started with much more money than her opponents and much more “insider” support than her opponents. Somehow she blew her money, her support, and her lead. That does not make her an underdog, it makes her a loser.

Bill has it exactly right. What would have happened if Shuster had said it seemed like OBAMA WAS PIMPING OUT MICHELLE, HIS WIFE…..after all, she’s been on the campaign trail just like Chelsea. I’ll tell you what would have happened….holy hell would have broken loose. There is a double standard here, plain and simple.

Obama is a great candidate, the best viable male candidate since Bill Clinton, maybe even since Robert F. Kennedy. His best campaign slogan — “Time For Change” — says it all. He represents a younger version of our “Children of the 60s” generation (born after 1940 and before the 1970) in presidential politics and a new color to boot (amazing he is our only perceived black U.S. Senator — of course, he is multi-racial — aren’t most of us these days?). His speech-making talents are as impressive as they are obvious. If progressive politics are we, Obama R US — more so than Hillary, I am chastened to confess. Scholastically, his credentials are superb — Columbia University is one of our best.
He hails from a reliably Democratic and liberal state (Hillary’s state — what a great year for Illinois).
If I may be permitted to bubble over a bit, Obama is passionate, charming, clearly well-intentioned, immensely likeable, and sells well his desire to change the culture of Washington D.C. As a state senator, Barrack was a champion of the under-privileged, which speaks to my heart.
Despite some strangely suspicious polls, I don’t believe the theory that he can beat McCain whereas Hillary cannot. But his gender and demeanor are definitely not polarizing — like say Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson or any woman intending to be the head honcho in America. There is a reasonableness about the man, a clarity of thinking that just — dare I say it — inspires. I like him, I respect him, and, gosh, I Think I Love Him (thank you, Emmy Lou Harris).
My arguments for Hillary are not very inspirational I fear; worse yet, not very persuasive. Her resume is superior; her accomplishments more substantial; her public advocacy more profound and broader. She is the same generation, though far more seasoned (not usually a bad thing); her international relations and contacts incomparable; her position on the war now, virtually identical; ditto for health care, balanced budget, campaign and lobby reform; gun control; pro choice; taxation; immigration; energy; global warming, et al. Nothing in terms of issues significantly separates Hillary from Barack.
Ironically, the campaign slogan “Time For Change” — suits both candidates. The change we need from Bush to…well, practically anybody. To me it is clear from her credentials and experience that Hillary is far better prepared for the presidency than was Bill (or is even today in my mind). However, I think the majority of Americans would gladly go back to the days of the Clinton administration — a time of peace and property despite the manacles and interminable miseries of Monicagate. A perusal of reasonably balanced historians leads me to believe Bill Clinton will be ranked among the very best of our presidents.
But all this is not the real point for me. The real change…and the most important change needed in our world today…is the gender change. I am not sorry to write it, but many are tired of reading and hearing it — particularly the patriarchs and fembots.
Feminism has become a bad word. Politicians fear it. The backlash against the women’s movement has been brutal and vicious. The Patriarchy is fierce and formidable. We have been taught to shut up about our poor, oppressed, abused women. No Equal Rights Amendment for our country. No siree, Bob. “By God, what do women want? They’ve the vote, the purse strings, and the men by the balls!”
So here is the radical feminist line from this sixty year old ex-patriarch:
Darlins’ , you’ve been looking for love in all the wrong places. It is time to stop looking for answers, happiness, and salvation in men. The real change, the significant change is a change in leadership gender. Men have been in charge of everything for at least 5000 years. To this very day, they dictate all aspects of life — corporate, government, military, law, education, philosophy, art, science, environment, love — even for whom we shall vote (the media is owned and micro-managed by men, afterall).
We all want to believe that our country will improve with an improvement in the quality of our leadership. Fine. I want to believe that too. But American women and men have been looking to men for quality leadership since 1776. It hasn’t worked. The twentieth century saw more deaths due to war than all the other centuries of humankind’s existence combined. And for the first time in our history, 3 out of 4 humans killed in war were women and children. And worse yet, in Vietnam and Iraq, more children have been killed than soldiers.
Where are the women leaders that have led us to this abomination? They are certainly not in charge. Of that we may be certain.
Immortality is a sweet dream. But Jesus as Mother Earth salvation is an illusion. No man or man-god can save this world. Our last hope is with the mothers. They are our only hope. We have tried all other options to no avail. Men failed. Women must succeed — for the sake of the children.
The single step that will take us home the surest and the fastest is but one small step for a woman, one giant leap for humankind. The top spot on Mother Earth will be a democratically elected woman. Hillary Clinton – A WOMAN IN CHARGE.

1. Voting for bills that are politically expedient then denying that she supported the bill.
2. Not releasing tax records
3. White House papers locked up until 2012
4. Long history of crooked fundraising
5. Selling pardons
6. Selling Commerce Dept positions
7. Lost law firm records
8. Found law firm records
9. Crooked land deals
10. Lying under oath
11. More lying under oath
12. Firing White House Travel Office staff on trumped-up charges
13. 900 FBI files on opponents
14. Crooked cattle futures trading
I’m just getting warmed up. Shall I go on?

$140 million is a shoestring? Poor Hillary – Bill sabotaged her again. Bill’s a disgrace but Barack Hussein Obama is a danger. We have three very bad candidates for President now but Hillary will be out soon. Hillary burned through $140 million? Where did it all go? Plastic surgery for the whole family?

Once again, America’s most scandal-ridden President has demonstrated that Hillary’s two biggest detriments to her ambitions to become America’s “Evita Peron” are her own lefist (some might say Communist)history, and her husband’s record and his BIG mouth.
Even if Bill shut up today, Hillary’s ultra-leftist record is reason enough to imprison her, and her husband, and she should be disqualified as a candidate on that alone.

I’m betting much of the Obama craze is really anti-Clinton craze. There seem to be fewer and fewer Clinton loyalists holding out for Hillary’s resurrection. Maybe they were just looking for a reasonable alternative and decided loyalty doesn’t trump vengeance.
At any rate, the general election will require Obama to come up with more than an empty cup and unfundable promises ala the Clinton modus operandi itself. People will be looking for the beef!

Brian Baptist post is so misinformed, peace and prosperity Clinton attacked more nations than any other president in American history. The only reason for economic stability was the tech sector because every company was upgrading because of the year 2000 scare. After 2000 the economy tanked for Clintons last 3 years and did not pick up until he left office.

Let’s see them tax records, Clintons. Before I invest in any company, I look at the balance sheet.
In fact: I can’t invest in a public company unless they produce their numbers.
Odd that I can’t see the candidate’s balance sheet before I ‘invest’ in them.
Also: If there is nothing to hide in the Clinton tax records… why the spinning and hemming and hawing?
Cover ups, spin, abuse of power, a long list of dead and disenfranchised associates, piles of distracting legal issues, pimping the Lincoln Bedroom… The Clintons better clean up their own house before we put them in ours at 1600 Pen. Ave.

The sad fact is Hillary’s Campaign does not include everyone and caters to women first just the opposite of what winning the Presidency is all about.
Even worse, Hillary’s inability to spend her money properly, and being unable to organize groups for her in many states shows an air of arrogance, ignorance, and incompetence’s just when she brags about being ready for the Presidency on day one.
Hillary showed she was the “I Don’t Care, I Don’t Know and I Can’t Run A Campaign,” came at the exact wrong time and was planned by her Campaign on her watch!
The plain simple fact is Hillary Clinton has shown she cannot organize a campaign let alone the nation that need unity not selective favoritism and abandonment of people and parts of America!

Regarding B. Clinton’s comment: “She’s had, the political press has avowedly played a role in this election. I’ve never seen this before.”
He should take a look at how Ron Paul, Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich, and many of the other candidates fared this election due to unfair media coverage. In today’s U.S. media, unfair political favoring is the norm.

Hmm…Clinton leads Obama in missed Senate votes.
Here are a few of Barack Obama’s exceptionally worthwhile accomplishments. I will quote from John k. Wilson’s book “Barack Obama: This Improbable quest.”
John K. Wison:
“Although ranking at the bottom of the U.S. Senate in seniority and trying to keep a low profile in the face of his media celebrity, Obama introduced bills to reduce mercury and lead pollution, improve security at chemical plants, help develop alternative energy, protect drinking water from terrorist attacks, improve the safety of spent nuclear fuel, increase rail and transit security, improve emergency evacuation and aid procedures, help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, speed up background checks for immigrants, make employers verify the legal status of employees, aid innovative school districts and summer programs, increase the Pell grant and make higher education more affordable, guard against an Asian flu epidemic, protect genetic privacy while increasing genetic research, increase the efficiency of the health care system, provide housing for homeless veterans, improve ethics on Capital Hill by limiting the revolving door and ending lobbyist gifts, prevent voter intimidation, and create an Office of Public Integrity.”
“Obama sponsored 152 bills and resolutions and cosponsored 427 bills in the 109th Congress during 2005 and 2006. Beginning with a bill to increase funding of Pell Grants to help poor students attend college, Obama proposed a wide range of progressive legislation.”
If you are looking to develop an informed opinion about Barack Obama, I would recommend John K. Wilson’s book or any of Obama’s books. And of course, you could always go to Barack Obama’s web site.

It’s interesting that both sides of the aisle are blaming the press for their woes this year. The conservatives blame the liberal media, the Clintons yammering about the political press. Cripes, no wonder no one can take responsibility for their own words and actions anymore.
The Clintons should understand better than anyone that whatever you put out there is going to get trampled on by someone. They had always been very protective of Chelsea, and the news media generally respected those boundaries. Now, as an adult, she’s out there campaigning for her mom. So all bets are off. Was the MSNBC comment vaguely out of line? Yeah, I guess. But as others have said, it’s not a slam on Chelsea… it’s a slam on Bill & Hillary taking advantage of their daughter’s youth (and gender) to appeal to an audience that’s otherwise swaying the other direction. In modern use, around the childless dinner table, that’s the very definition of “pimping.” Is it appropriate for TV? Maybe not. Worth all this outrage? No way.
I have a sinking feeling that, no matter what voters in the remaining states say, Hillary will find a way to worm her way into the election, be it with Michigan & Florida delegates, superdelegates, whatever. That makes Bill’s comments in the above article, about the press taking the election away from the people, incredibly ironic, since that’s exactly what Hillary will do.

If you are a Mother to a son and voting for Hillary Clinton, then ask yourself why she refuses to go after the White Male vote?
Is this politics by exclusion and not inclusion, is she going to ignore the white males?
How can she manage the nation when she cannot manage her own campaign over money, going to all the states, and not caring for parts of this nation?
Hillary is only going for votes in the most populous states, favoring only women and hispanics, is this the way to run for a Presidency that must include all 50 States, not just the few she wants to see and hear from for votes?
Dump Hillary because she had already dumped on us!

I think that Bill Clinton has a point here. Make a critical statement about Obama and everyone claims that you are playing the race card. But slandering Hillary and her daughter is fair game. Seems like the perfect definition of hypocricy…
We all need free press and freedom of expression, but we should not forget that the person we are writing or talking about has rights, too. When it gets personal and when the family is used as a substitute target, the fun ends and the smear begins. That’s what I like about the mob: The family is sacred and everything is not personal…
BTW: If Obama sponsored 152 bills and resolutions and cosponsored 427 bills in the 109th Congress during 2005 and 2006…

What is funny about this article is Bill saying “She just stuck up for her daughter, and for girls everywhere, and women everywhere, and it’s about time somebody did after…….” lets say a President sexually took advantage of an intern in the work place.
Apparently Bill has memory loss about how he has treated women and “girls” in the past.

You don’t like Bill’s description of a caucus? I have a better one. Letting 1 to 5 percent of a state’s voters decide who that state will support in a primary. Which means you can win a caucus and lose badly in a general election when everybody is voting, or didn’t you figure that out yet? Remember you heard it from me first.

Chelsea? You mean the cute little pre-teen hugging her teddy bear while holding Mommy and Daddy by the hand as she walks to the local public elementary school in the D.C. neighborhood where they all live happily ever after together?

Caucuses favor upper income people who “don’t need a president” ??? You can’t make this stuff up. I knew Bill couldn’t keep his trap shut for long and now he is making a mess of things again.
Keep going Bill.. you’ll ruin your wife’s chances. Or, maybe that’s what deep down you really want !

I’m all for the idea the right woman becoming President, but it would be nice if it were a woman of individual accomplishment and not an expert at coat-tail riding. How many people be voting for Hillary Rodham the Arkansas corporate attorney?

As long as Chelsea was out of it, sitting at home, being a daughter, she was entitled to privacy, and to be left out of the media, but as soon as Mom and Dad put her out there on the campaign trail, she became fair game for anyone to take a shot at her. Its all part of it. You cannot have it both ways. You want to protect her, keep her out of the picture.
“Pimping” someone out, is hardly an offensive term in this cruddy society we are stuck with, anyway

when our forefathers, the farmers, carpenters, blacksmiths, the freed slaves etc followed George Washington into battle against Great Britain, the greatest power in the world at the time it wasnt because he was a self righteous wind sock who claimed to know everything, they followed him because they were inspired by him. Obama brings that same sort of inspiration to a new generation of americans and it will be a shame if this generation of american people can’t be inspired to take another bold step toward the future and instead gutlessly decides to follow the same tired path hoping it will this time lead to a new destination.

Slick Willy and that snake oil saleswoman should be bloody ashamed of PIMPING thier daughter, like Jean-Benet Ramsey sans lipstick.
The conceited, trite daughter was mum for years as if she had a pea brain. Alas, it’s election time and Mummy wants her ol’ 1500 Penny addy back.
Typical snake OIL Clinton charlatanism. Petty and COMMON. The only people in this country who’d allow the CLINTONs past the front door are the nouveau-riche and pill popping, self-righteous celebs.

President Clinton is ABSOLUTELY right, the political press has been incredibly biased in their favor of Obama, and they have had a huge part in driving the results of the Democratic nomination, to their grave discredit. Totally unprofessional in journalism!!! But, hopefully, it will be the female species of this nation who will decide this election and vote based on experience and NOT on the press-appointed messiah. Most of these political press are so afraid of a strong, capable woman, despite the fact that they all have mothers who were possibly, hopefully similar. They must be so proud!!David Shuster, Chris Matthews and the like should be fired. Go to the polls, ladies and show them what “CHANGE” really means! And maybe, just maybe, the political press will report THAT!!! YoU GO GIRL!!! We’re counting on you!

I really don’t care about the sex thing any longer that happened in the white houe, it’s over and done with, But what bothers me the most is all the crimmal act’s that the dirty clinton’s got away with, Ron Brown secretary of commerce and former DNC chairman, reported to have died by impact in a plane crash. A pathologlist close to the investigation reported that their was difintely a hole on the top of Brown’s skull resembling a gunshot wound. At the time of his death Brown was being investigated, and spoke publicly of his willingness to cut a deal with prosecutors., Vince Foster-former white house counselor, and colleague of HILLARY CLINTON at little rock’s rose law firm. Died very mysteriously of a gunshot wound to the head, ruled a suicide. Mary Mahoney- A former white house intern was murdered july 1997 at a Starbucks coffee shop in georgetown, the murder took place just aftershe was to go public with her story of sexual harassment in the white house, under, Bill pervert Clinton…..James Mcdougal- Clintons convicted Whitewater parter died of an apparent heat attack, while in solitary confinement, He was A KEY witness in Ken Starr’s investigation. And their were others too, no,no, these two are scum, they are nothing more than cold blooded KILLER”S. There are so many people that knew the the truth about the Clinton’s, and they were MURDERED to keep their silence, I hope the same thing happen’s to them that happened to all these people who had to die to keep them silent, I will celebrate on that day.

Take a look at Wall Street Journal On Line and search for the article “The Clintons’ Terror Pardons”. Read this article and then ask yourself if this is the person that you want as your next president. The people they pardoned to try and gain latino votes maimed and blinded several policemen. I was angry when I read this and sent it to every one I know and ask you to do the same.

Irony of ironies that the very couple who propelled crude, immoral, to say nothing of dishonest behavior into our living-rooms daily via TV scandals on a daily basis would complain about the misuse (or not) of a single word. I cannot think of a single organization let alone individual or couple that has done more to erode the civility of our public discourse than the first couple It is my sincere hope that the Clintons will be rejected by the public and the democratic establishment so they won’t be able to harm our country any more than they already have.

What has Hillary done while she has been in the Senate? Why does everyone let her count her husband’s presidency as her own political experience? Did she have her hands in his pockets and make presidential decisions? If so, do you want more of that? Check the Library of Congress out and see the types of bills Hillary sponsored. Naming buildings was a big one! Then look at the bills that Obama sponsored, cosponsored, and wrote! I would say that he had alot more experience and positive actions in the Senate than she did. She was too worried about what other people would think if she sponsored a bill that someone didn’t like because she knew she would run for president. Obviously she was not thinking about what was best for the country then, what makes her so well suited now?

Posted by: Check Research | February 15, 2008, 12:43 am 12:43 am

hillary clinton’s “EXPERIENCE” equals SEVEN years in the senate with no major accomplishment.
she has NEVER held a leadership position in hre elective career.

Posted by: deroy | February 15, 2008, 1:07 am 1:07 am

Hillary is my Senator and while she hasn’t been a bad senator, neither has she been an outstanding senator. I am not aware of any significant legislation bearing her name. She seemed to use a lot of her votes, power and efforts preparing herself for her run for President. Though that may be fine, not on my dime.

Posted by: Sigmund.Fraud | February 15, 2008, 1:26 am 1:26 am

In all fairness, the Clintons have always been powermongers. Everything they do is self interest. She favors abortion; let’s abort her. She should serve out her term as Senator and then hang it up.

Posted by: Sigmund.Fraud | February 15, 2008, 1:28 am 1:28 am

I must say, it’s entirely entertaining watching the Democrats tear themselves apart.
In what should be a Democratic year because of Bush’s errors, it’s all going to south for them–and quickly! They’re going to nominate a person with the most liberal voting record in the Senate, a man with three whole years in serious govt service, a man who never ran a business or any significant enterprise at all, a man who never served in the military, a man who cherishes his association with a black militant church, a man who somehow taught law for ten years at the University of Chicago without publishing any legal scholarship, a man whose principal virtue is inspiring left-wing airheads with Robin Hood economics and neohippie bravado, a man who almost certainly cannot win a single red state, a man who constantly speaks in class-warfare and racialist overtones.
This is the best the Democrats can do? Really? Hillary must be a weak candidate indeed to lose to someone so obviously on the fringe.
Just this week, we saw Obama propose that retirees should pay no income taxes on earned income under $50K per year. This will “unite” America, by pitting one group against another as sharply as it gets? Young people with babies earning $40K have to pay taxes, in part to pay Social Security and Medicare entitlements for seniors, but those same seniors would be exempt from federal income taxes?
The man is a fool, who will only get the votes of fools, and by the fall he’ll probably be a laughingstock and his groupies will be looking for their next messiah over whom they can cry, to whom they can give supplications of blind faith, and whose feet they will kiss.
McCain by 10-12 points in November.

Posted by: Richard | February 15, 2008, 4:03 am 4:03 am

Hillary lost the election last week. It’s impossible for her to catch up now. The media keeps her alive just so she can draw in more money.

What most people seem to forget is that whatever $$$ she raises during her campaign is hers to keep, win, lose or withdraw. Now Bill is claiming she has to run her campaign on a shoestring budget. No wonder Bill is begging for more donations.

Ahhhhhhh… The old Clinton victim card. Like we haven’t seen this one played about a million times. I have honestly seen no sexism involved in the critic of Hillary. I am so sick of one of the worst political attack machine of the Clintons attempting to play the victim card all the time. It gets really old.
I am a moderate leaning Republican from Ohio, and I will be voting for Obama in March, and in November.

Posted by: Marc | February 15, 2008, 9:10 am 9:10 am

I hate to do this, but I have to agree with Bill Clinton (at least partly): there is double standard.
MSNBC has been using terms like that (and far worse) about Bush and other Republicans for years, and no one has been suspended for it.
So he’s right, there is a double standard, but not in the way he contends.

Posted by: Nick in Virginia | February 15, 2008, 9:16 am 9:16 am

I’m tired of racial divisiveness on all sides. Why not focus on the issues? Who is the best person for the job? This is not a beauty contest. We have some very serious problems facing our country and the entire world (upcoming recession, over 4000 soldiers dying in Iraq, poor health care, rampant gun violence, terrorism and etc).. I’m tired of media focus on Obama and his super star greatness. If he was all that, why not check his voting, his work ethics, his influence, and his focus both in the senate and the Illinois statehouse. If he was a big humanitarian, where was he post hurricane Katrina? If he was interested in withdrawing from Iraq, how many trips has he made to Iraq and the veteran hospitals? If you want to give away your vote to someone is full of platitudes and is naive, then Obama, is your choice. However, he is not mine. At the end of the day, I’m going to vote for someone who is willing to work hard and can run a country without Oprah in the wings. I want someone with experience. I want someone who can think for themself and not be a puppet.

Posted by: Ditto | February 15, 2008, 9:22 am 9:22 am

In reality, when one looks upon this, the media is trying to overlook her loss of her campaign money and show a more sturdy side, one of Bill protecting his family, and showing that they aren’t going down without a fight. In all honesty, the democrats need to get there heads out of the dirt because this is their election to win, but they are destroying themselves by not working as one. Clinton, Obama, it’s all the same. Are we ready for a two year Illinois senator, who spent really ONE year in his office and another campaigning for president. Are we ready for a female senator and solid politician who has a husband who was one of the greatest Presidents of this nation with an ugly personal life… I am not sure, but everyone needs to take a second look before reacting.

Posted by: Justin | February 15, 2008, 9:40 am 9:40 am

I’m a lifelong Democrat, but I’ll be voting for McCain. Obama has no experience and Clinton is a self-absorbed and power hungry beauracrat.
We’ve all seen that McCain can work with both sides and has by far the most experience. We’ve seen time and time again that he’ll compromise with us. And since we’ve seen him speak out numerous times against Bush, we know he’s not the RNC’s lap dog.
I hope my fellow Democrats consider him.

Shuster’s comment disappointed and disgusted me. MSNBC’s continuous, veiled sexist remarks are unacceptable. If it was racist, much more action would have been taken.

Posted by: Sexist | February 15, 2008, 11:35 am 11:35 am

Reading these comments has reinforced my opinion that, unfortunately, many of my fellow citizens are either morons or totally uninformed.
For instance, WMDs WERE found in IRAQ. Get over it.
The “pimping” comment was directed at Hillary, NOT her daugher.
Stewart’s and Colbert’s shows are COMEDIES – NOT news programs. That’s why they are on the COMEDY channel.
And anyone who believes Hillary’s experience is anything other than lying and cheating (after all if being a first lady is “experience” let’s elect Barbara Bush!) is delusional. And anyone that votes for someone because they have a good campaign slogan (albeit a copied one) is a moron. Demand that your candidate spell out EXACTLY how he or she intends to enact the so-called change they are talking about (if you can even get them to say what change exactly).

Posted by: dcgirl | February 15, 2008, 11:55 am 11:55 am

I look at all these posts and all I see is the same stuff the politicans go through, hate, rivalry, distortion, complasency, idiocracy, and down right bashing. Is this what politics have come to be? Is the whole point of politics now to bash each other verbally and mentally until the other gives in or one achieves their goal? I honestly thought it was suppose to be about the persons interests and abilities, not their private lives and interactions with the media. NO it is suppose to be about how the country works as one and what they can do for the country and what is best for the country. The whole point of politics is to elect someone who will make the decisions you want made or you would make in their place. We have politicians, because unlike in the Greek days, we can not all go to congress and decide for ourselves. Think about that before you vote. Every politician is full of crap, everyone does something for personal gain, but vote upon the basis of the one that best suites you and the nation, not the one that has the best slogan or the best ability to humilate or insult their opponent.

Posted by: Justin | February 15, 2008, 12:40 pm 12:40 pm

Bill Clinton needs to find a hole and crawl in it. I’m an Obama supporter, and I’ll openly admit that Bill has severely damaged his wife’s campaign.
So tired of the “sexism” stuff. Drop it.
I’m black and trust me I’m so tired of the racial battles on both sides. Dang, let’s drop it already.

Posted by: Big J | February 15, 2008, 2:04 pm 2:04 pm

How was the pimping comment sexist? Are people suggesting Shuster wouldn’t have said the same thing about McCain and his daughter if there existed similar parent-child exploitation? I’m not even sure why Shuster made such a comment – Haven’t many past presidential candidates’ adult children engaged in such campaigning efforts?
And one thing I do know. If there were any WMDs found in Iraq, they were chemical weapons, most of which were manufactured pre-1991. These were not the WMDs we went to war to find and destroy. Why do people on these threads attempt to mislead others when there’s no opportunity for political gain in so doing?

Posted by: couple points and questions | February 26, 2008, 1:28 pm 1:28 pm

They have every right to be upset.
This is a presidential race.
Obama keeps talking about the “new politics,” of “hope,” “change,” and “unity,” but there is always this double-standard – that is the exact opposite, and no one is supposed to say anything about it?

Posted by: Lauren | March 8, 2008, 7:17 am 7:17 am

Obama dodws such things as this to exhibit the complete room applauding him. Remember when he asked the very best Court and said excitedly to stay together ahead of time and used his bully pulpit to reprimand them. They’re his equal in governemtn. He could be type of a child that nobody ever trained any manners or proper behavior rules.
