Chelsea Says TX Is Must Win

ABC News’ Kate Snow reports: Speaking at Texas Tech in Lubbock tonight, Chelsea Clinton was asked if she agrees with her father’s recent comments in Beaumont about Texas and Ohio being must win states.

"I think we do have to win in Texas," Chelsea said. "And I think we will win in Texas if we work hard."

The former first daughter was hoarse, and said she was fighting an illness.

"Forgive my voice. I’ve been working hard for my mom … Unfortunately, I’m not as practiced at this as some are, so my vocal chords are a bit out of whack," she croaked at the outset.

But despite her failing voice, the younger Clinton fielded questions for more than an hour on everything from health care to education; Iraq to net neutrality and trade.

Watch part of her speech HERE.

Chelsea urged the crowd to judge her mother on her own merits.

"I don’t think you should vote for or against my mother because of my father," she said when asked if Americans should be concerned about creating a dynasty of Clintons in the White House.

It’s more than a must win, she has to have more than 65% of the vote in every last State to pass Obama. That will not happen as she has never been anywhere close in States she did win.

what about the rest of the states if she gets the mo from ohio or RI etc

Nice to have a pretty lady like Chelsea, looking out for her mom.
I really hope the voters decide on Hillary. I am not a supporter of the media’s favorite candidate.

Chelsea is a genuinely nice person. The people that automatically hate all-things-Clinton, generally because they’ve been influenced that way by bottom feeders like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly, need to sit on it for this particular thread.

None of us Clinton supporters will EVER vote for Obama. He has run a horrifying campaign of racism, media abuse and BRAINWASHING.
I give him credit for winning, but he is the WEAKEST candidate out of the three remaining. He will blubber his way thru his presidency, much like Bushie.

Chelsea is right. Texas is must win. And it can’t be a 51-49 thing, if her campaign has any serious hopes of getting back into this thing.
The ironic thing would be to wake up in nine days, with Clinton having swept all four states, but not by enough in terms of delegates, and realizing then they can’t win. Wonder how her supporters would take that?

Who really cares what Chelsea has to say. She did a great job for Mommy in Hawaii, didn’t she?

At least I do know Chelsea is still proud to be an American even if people are not voting for her mother as much as Hillary would like. I can’t say the same for Michelle Obama.

Young lady Chelsea, you are talking humbly. I wish you can advise your mom to do the same.

Why is it that the CLINTONS are so eager to be PRESIDENT???? They have been there before for 8 years. They should give chance to others to taste it,too. Hillary is just forcing her way to be,but she has already lost the nomination. America is not a monarchy system. The CLINTONS’ time is over.We anat some kind of new policies in Washington now.

To TomDavie… if it helps you slee better at night, keep reciting GOP attack lines such as “the media is to blame.” Yes, Hillary is losing states by 20 points because the voters are just so stupid, or she is losing states that don’t count. She has run a weak campaign against an excellent campaigner. Why is anyone surprised she is getting her butt kicked all over the country? I’m glad I didn’t waste any money donating to her joke of a campaign.

Posted by: Vincent F | February 26, 2008, 2:25 am 2:25 am

Why am I supposed to care what she thinks? We already knew Hillary was floundering.
And why criticize M Obamaa about the “proud” comment. I look at the stupid comments on these blogs and am ashamed to live on the same planet as most of you. Look at our history. We have lots of racism, injustice, and pointless wars that should make you less “patriotic.” If you can even call it that. Ya’ll weren’t proud enough to keep the Neo-cons from screwing U.S. for 7 yrs. So shut up about it.

Posted by: Tor | February 26, 2008, 3:01 am 3:01 am

I am an Obama supporter and very proud to be. However, I respect what Chelsea is doing on behalf of her mother’s campaign and I can’t blame Hillary for trying to use all of her surrogates, to help her comeback. Frankly, I’m tired of all of the media’s comments and projections and can’t wait until March 4th is OVER.

I have been voteing since 1960 when I worked for JFK.I will tell you that no matter what the media polls say,if Obama goes up against McCain and the Republican machine in November they will eat him alive.Look what they did to John Kerry ad Al Gore. They will fight dirty, and Obama will loose in a landslide.Hillary has the savy and the experience to win in November.I sure want to see a Democract in the White House, don’t you? THIS IS NOT THE YEAR FOR “I have a dream” Remember the world is watching this election, that includes our enemies.Look what happened in 2000.We elected Bush and got 911.Do you really think our enemies would have bombed New York City with Al Gore in the White House?? Never. And Gore would have never invaded Iraq.Thats 7,000 lies saved, and 20,000 lives that would have never been destoyed. Our enemies are watching, waiting for us to elect a weak President with no experience.Yes,Hillary is tough, she is also strong.I shutter to think how long it would be before America would be invadd with Obama sitting in the White House. So please think long and hard. This year,we need someone with lots of experience. That someone is Hillary Clinton.

Posted by: ken levy | February 26, 2008, 4:07 am 4:07 am

All these people keep talking about Hillary’s experience. What exactly has she done?

Posted by: Janet | February 26, 2008, 4:16 am 4:16 am

Thirty five years of experience and she’s still talking about the same issues. RED FLAG! If she hasn’t done it in 35 yrs, what makes you think she can do it as president! Just one question…has anyone ever seen Hillary in a dress?

Posted by: Kay | February 26, 2008, 4:30 am 4:30 am

Someone, anyone name one think Obama has done.Yes,he has been a Senator for 3 years. How many votes in Washington has he missed the last two years running around the country running for the White House.Hillary has been a Senator for 8 years. She has also lived in Wahington and knows how to cross party lines to get bills passed.Im not saying she is perfect,Im saying she knows how to be President on day one.No learning, needed,And all the experience with foriegn policy is needed now.She can also fight the Republican machine, and belive me thay are going to have one hell of a dirty monster to throw at us this year.Ask John Kerry, ask Al Gore. They are raising millions as we speak to run those swift boat ads, remember? No one knows better how to run dirty elections better than the Republicans. We will need a very strong leader to fight.Obama is weak. You cann’t turn the other cheek with the Republicans.Hillary is tough, well tested, and ready.Believe me when I say John McCain really fears Hillary Clinton.Thats why the media has been so very nice to Obama. They want him to beat Hillary so we can have 4 more years of a Republican White House.I know how the media works,I have been watching their dirty tricks for 40 years. You would think the American people would have too.

Posted by: ken levy | February 26, 2008, 4:47 am 4:47 am

chelsea,
it was silly to say people shouldnt vote or not vote for your mom because of Bill. Didn’t you get the memo that most of her support is because of Bill?
Chelsea visiting a state is like a jinx… so now Texas will be lost too

Posted by: dave | February 26, 2008, 8:58 am 8:58 am

If experience is what you want, then McCain is your candidate.

Posted by: Jim in Philadelphia | February 26, 2008, 9:15 am 9:15 am

Name one thing Obama did?
He helped co-sponsor the toughest anti-pork bill that’s ever passed Congress.
As an Illinois Senator he passed a bill that required video-taping of confessions to police, to make sure the suspects were not beaten.
He, unlike Hillary, came back to Washington during the campaign to vote NO on telecom immunity.
Look at Obama’s record: He is for real.

I really do not mean to be disrespectful, but these idiots that have done no research on Obama make me sick. He has taken tons of money from large corporations, like Exelon whom has leaked nuclear waste in the river in Illinios. $200,000 dollars to be factual. It does not stop there. He put absolutely false flyer out “lie” about NAFTA. He has voted to fund the war in Iraq, Hillary stopped some time ago. His Health insurance plan is corporate give away. I know because I struggle to get claims paid, and medical insurance for employers. All the negativity about Clinton, just corporate media propaganda. I loved the one about Obama watering down a bill so Nuclear Plants do not have to report nuclear leaks, but it is ok trust corporations. Then Obama lieing on his site that he had it mandated. People are idiots, and will ultimately destroy this country with the help of Media Corporation giants. What is hope – that people get a brain

pam wrote:
“these idiots that have done no research on Obama make me sick”
Well, people who get their information about Obama from Hillary Clinton talking points make me sad.
pam says:
“He put absolutely false flyer out “lie” about NAFTA”
But the non-partisan factcheck.org said that while Obama’s flyer “strained the truth” it was “not exactly false,” whereas of Clinton’s flyers they said:
Social security flyer: “an awful distortion”
Foreclosure flyer: “fiction,” and “That’s false”
They said that Hillary’s response to his Nafta flyer was also a distortion of the facts and not the “whole truth.”
So remove that plank from your candidate’s eye before you throw stones…or something.

Why do people continue to believe that BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA is new style politics. He’s not!!!!
Because of the oratory, he’s been able to me disguise his use of the same old techniques and call them “change.”
I love what the republican guy said:
“Americans now we have a hack Chicago style daily politician who is picturing himself as change. When he gets done with you all your are going to have in your pockets is CHANGE,” Cunningham said of Obama before introducing McCain.

Posted by: JJ | February 26, 2008, 2:05 pm 2:05 pm

Why are we so blind to see what happened not too long ago. The Clinton’s did great for this country and wanted to get us back to where we were. That brining us back to prosperity and finacial responsibility is change. How is Barack Obama going to bring about the change, if he is not going to be the one that sets the agenda in congress? He will lose to John McCain come november and the democratic party will learn, when it is too late. Hillary is a better person to go against the republicans, and we do not need them in the white house again.
People should wake up and see, Obama will have his work cut out for him, when the dirt starts flying around him
Mark my word. He will be kissing the l have a dream for change speach,he did not do too much when he was in the senate in Illinois and in the US senate! How is he going to do this.
ps: all the states with large African American population are voting for Obama yet when Bill Clinton spoke about the race issue, the black leaders were crying. He was right. look at the percentages of the votes. Do you remember when african americans said that Bill Clinton was the first black president. Who knows what Obama will do!
l am Black and l see the racial line for the support, seems black people want a black president

who is going to teach obama to slute the american flag.

Posted by: k,hall | February 26, 2008, 5:22 pm 5:22 pm

I think Americans are blind. They just go by a person’s ability to talk well. If a person is good at giving speeches, Americans will vote for that candidate. Also, I think this country is very backwards in terms of what they think. You never had any Female president yet!! Look at the so called third world countries. Bangladesh, India, Pakistan all had Women presidents way back in 1980s. People here are still discriminating against Females although they say they don’t. I strongly believe that Obama didn’t vote for Iraq war because he cannot do that as he has Muslim roots. How can he fight against his own people??!! Although he might pose himself as a Christian, don’t forget that his roots are Muslim and he has ties with his father’s family. He is Barak Hussain Obama!!
I like Hillary because she has solutions to problems. Although she is not a great orator as Obama, she thinks before she makes any promises. Obama just gives great speeches. Americans made a mistake by re-electing Bush and are again going to do the same by electing Obama. This time it is going to be a doomsday for this continuously ruining economy. God… Please give brains to Americans.

gore and kerry had a lot more going for them than obama and they couldn’t get the whitehouse (no point now arguing about the election issues….). obama wouldn’t even be someone we’d heard of if not for his race. that sells well in democratic primaries/caucuses, but will be a hindrance rather than an asset in a general election – not pc to say, but true. btw, the one who said we hillary supporters get our info from flyers or whatever – no, we’ve actually followed the issues and the people involved over the years. we know what they actually stand for. but i read hundreds/thousands of posts from obamaites that sound like campaign propaganda. and i agree with those who commented that obama will endanger our security and our economy. heaven help us if he gets elected. but i think he has very little chance – like many, i’m a lifelong dem who will vote repub for the first time ever this year. and fortunately for the country if obama loses in a landslide, that’ll be the end of his political career and we can look forward to the first black president actually being someone qualified.

All they are trying to pass a legacy from Bill to Hillary and so on after 20 years in between Jeb Bush if the Americans sleep forever.

Posted by: Jay | February 27, 2008, 4:40 pm 4:40 pm

If Hillary is so experience why did she run her campaign similar to President Bush Invading Iraq. President Bush started the war thinking it will be over when he ousted Saddam Hussein. Hillary thought her campaign would be over when she won Super Tuesday. President Bush could not control Iraq’s war expenses. Hillary cannot control her campaign’s expenses. Feeling the pressure President Bush fired some of his top aides, so did Hillary. So I asked, how can you run a country when you cannot make the right decisions for your own campaign? Hillary has 35 yrs experience, I would have thought that this experience that she speaks of would show in her campaign. No it has not! Her campaign is ran like a rookie on the field for the first time. To tell you the truth, I like Hillary. But she is not the face I will like to present to the world as President of these here United States. Barack Obama, first of all is an American, and like all Americans he loves this country. He has 20 years within the legislative process. He understands that to start healing we must communicate. If communication is good for families then it is also good for the country and for the world. He also understands that without hope we are like the walking dead. We need hope to project, to move forward, to live. With hope comes inspiration, that even with a little effort we can achieve our dreams. Many cultures, One people, One America. Barack Obama for President!

Why do people insist that Hillary has all this experience. Obama has more experience than she does unless you count her bossing Bill around for 35yrs.
DO NOT WANT THE THIEVING, LYING CLINTONS BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE. ENOUGH OF THEM ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chelsea is a brillant young lady.
Bill and Hillary did an excellent job on raising her.
Hillary is a super woman who deserves to win. She will be a good US president because of her intelligence and wide variety of experience on any kind that relates to presidency.
I followed her success, achievements and personal sufferings since back then.
This woman is truly amazing and brillant.
I pray each day for her continues success and hoping she will win this election.
If she will win, our country will have better hope for the future.
I wish her and family the best of luck.
