Clinton Keeps Swinging in Columbus
ABC News’ Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., told a crowd in Columbus, Ohio, not to buy into the comments and speculation going forward in this race.
"Let me tell you: I think there is a big difference between speeches and solutions," she said.
"I could be very general about what I want to do. I could have been very rhetorical about what I want to do. … There would be cheering and applauding and the lights would come up, but I want you to know what I want to do as your president."
Clinton, who was endorsed on stage by former astronaut and John Glenn, knocked Sen. Barack Obama’s rhetoric and made the argument that she offers the details and the plans.
"I don’t want to be vague and general," she said. "I want to be very specific, because I want you to know when I am in the White House every single day. I will say to my cabinet, the people who work for me: What have you done today to help the people of America? With me you will get a fighter, a doer and a champion."
Clinton told the crowd, as she has in the past, that she has "not just talked the talk, [she] has walked the walk."
Clinton took a hit at Obama, his experience and the advisors to his campaign.
"You can have all of the advisors in the world — you know, all of the people who tell you what you should think and what you do and what you should say," she said. "But when it is all over, the president has to decide. It can be a lonely job. It’s the hardest job in the world. I’m asking you to hire me."
Clinton continued swinging against Obama and his health care plan.
"My opponent has not put forth a plan for universal health care," she said. "I think he blinked."
It wasn’t just punches for Clinton on the campaign trail today. She did learn that she had won the state of New Mexico.
"I got another Valentines Day president — that [officials] finally completed counting the votes in New Mexico, and I won."
Later in her speech, Clinton admitted that the pursuit of the presidency is "maddening and it is frustrating."

wow! so this would be Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush, Clinton? Even if I do want a female president one day I don’t want her now. I don’t like Hilary and never have. Her personality is so contrived. I don’t like power-hungry, no-it-all snobs.

What I’d like to hear are some of Hillary’s specifics. All she talks about is why Obama is bad. I don’t hear a lot of plans out of her. It sounds like the ususal – admit nothing, deny everything, make counter-accusations. Where are her tax returns? What about her $400 million in earmarks? Is she really for the little guy? I don’t think so. Hopefully the American people are smart enough to see what she really stands for-herself only. She is unethical and dishonest. Don’t be fooled.

Best quote of the day – from the Huckster: the American people are not looking for someone who can fix the carburator; they are looking for someone who can drive the car… Look how HRC’s leadership is almost driving her mostly inherited campaign off the cliff, by living in a outside-reality cocoon… She did not expect the nomintion would take so long, she did not ecpect her war vote to matter, she did not expect that small states could be impostant, she dis not expect that small donors could give a lot of money…. What would she do if Kroea nd Iran don;t act “as expected”? Ready to lead from day one?! See how she dropped this one? Solutions? Let her start with her campaign… and let her disclose her financials BEFORE the nomination – isn;t she claiming to be “vetted” and don;t we deserve an inforned decisions?! And now sen, Clinton wants to do for the country as she did for her campaign… we cannot roll that dice – do we really need the whole dysfunctional circus back in town? Do we really wnat to be distracted for the next few years from the things that matter?! The only solution CLintons offer is to McCain’s internal GOP problem – HRC on the ballot will united the GOP as no one else can, esp. not Sen. McCain!

What’s wrong with America. Are we paying attention. Mccain means more time in war for the soldiers. Obama is too inexperienced for leadership of this country. Hillary is the best choice out there. The media is poisoning the country against her. But we are setting ourselves up for failure if we don’t start paying attention. Is anyone concerned about the slipping of the dollar?

I found nothing at all biased about this piece. If an Obama supporter Ms. Harper could have noted that the delegate count in New Mexico is 13 for Clinton and 12 for Obama, for instance.
I am really tired of this “the media” is doing this or “the media” is doing that crap.
I think “the media”, meaning reporters, and not commentators who are allowed to take sides, have over-all done a very even handed job of reporting on the campaigns.

I have said all along. Clinton needs to sharpen her attacks on Obama with concise and impressionable lines like “words are cheap and actions speak louder”, etc. She needs to present herself as tough, firm, and competent as if she is an older sister to Obama. Call him “young man” if she has to. That is how to arouse and inspire her base and instill confidence in undecideds. Hope it’s not too late. Remember Bush in 2004, the whole world was against him, yet he stood firm and talk tough and it was good enough to arouse his base. If Clinton loses, I will vote for McCain.

WELL WAKE UP PEOPLE!! OBAMA VOTED MORE THAN 100 TIMES PRESENT INSTEAD OF TAKING SIDE AND VOTE EITHER YES OR NO. TO ME THAT IS A SIGN OF WEAKNESS AND POOR LEADERSHIP. THA MEANS HE IS AFRAID TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES. DO WE REALLY WANT THAT KIND OF PRESIDENT WHO CANNOT STAND UP FOR HIS VOTE? AT LEAST HILLARY TOOK RESPONSIBILITY AND ACTION FOR HER VOTE AND DID NOT CHICKEN OUT COMPARE TO OBAMA. THAT’S ASHAME AND OBAMA IS A MAN! YAIKS!

This candidate Hillary can’t be separated from her husband by some of you people…..
This woman Clinton has a mind of her OWN, apart from her HUSBAND—you people just have old-fashioned views of what Marriage is between a man and a woman—–contrary to what you THINK, some women is a marriage think for themselves—-Hillary is one of these Independant-thinking, intelligent women. The “dynasty in American politics” argument just does not work–it never did—-just give it up, it is an old, sad attempt to “scare” tactic by the obama people.
And Hillary is “Power-Hungry”? Give that statement up, too—-it doesn’t work, either. ALL POLITICIANS ARE POWER-HUNGRY and CORRUPT in varying degrees—these are GIVENS. Are you naive, or trying once again to use the “obama scare tactic”??

Janet:
Hillary Clinton has stated her specifics, VERY specifically. It is comical because it shows that you did not even see the debates between Clinton and Obama, where she detailed her plans and solutions so well, she beat the pants off of obama in those debates. This is why Obama will not debate her in Wisconsin when she wanted to debate him again: he consistantly stutters and talks in a boring monotone, and a person can’t make sense out of what he is trying to say when he is in a debate setting without a teleprompter to help him along. The man plain just can’t think on his feet like Hillary so brillantly does…..she is educated about the issues, has researched all that is going on, and clearly has a gift of getting her REAL PLAN and message across, especially to women and the middle-class, working Americans.
Janet, maybe you need to pay special attention to the next debate between Hillary and Obama and see for yourself. Then I dare you to say that you want to hear more specifics from Hillary. She is a very detail-oriented person about her plans to get America back on track. Obama is just wishing the future.

In addition to New Mexico, I read the news of the PA and OH polls conducted 6-12 Feb showing the Obama winning streak had surprisingly little impact in both states with Hillary Clinton leading by big margins.
When Bill Clinton was President, her enemies and the media claimed Hillary Clinton has too much influence on policy decisions, now they are trying to deny her policy decision making experience.

Do you think women should have the right to serve in any of the offices of government? You have the chance to elect someone with all the credentials needed: educated, talented, creative, caring, accomplished, experienced, and capable. That’s Hillary. Why vote for the weakest canditate?

Hillary gets criticized all the time for being a policy wonk. But I think her extraordinary knowledge of the issues, practical policy prescriptions are her strongest assets (aside from the grit and determination she has to get things done). I can’t understand why people prefer Obama’s soaring and meaningless rhetoric. I think she needs to nail him on it—GET REAL—turn off the teleprompter Barack. I wish he would agree to a live, one-on-one debate before the Wisconsin primary to address the real issues that real people care about. We have only had 1 two person debate so far and it was very instructive. Clearly, Obama does not have the confidence to go toe to toe with her with Wisconsin on the line. I bet he wishes he could push off the other debates too…. He had to face her sooner or later, so he chose later.
We don’t need vapid promises (‘we can save the planet”…”we can change the world”) and we don’t need exhortations to “Hope,” we need practical solutions to real problems.
Barack has come to realize this, belatedly. So he has adopted many of Clinton’s economic ideas as his own (even McCain’s economic adviser called him on the plagerism and said he would give Barack an ‘F’). The least Obama could have done with is heist is to grab all the good ideas. Pathetically, he stole a lot of Clinton’s proposals, but left out some of the most important pieces. Obama will be terrible for the economy—of the three remaining candidates, he gets the lowest grade from the US Chamber of Commerce, behind Clinton and McCain.

All of this will be over soon. If HRC loses Wisconsin by more than 6 points, it is effectively over. Defections of Super Delegates are moving to Obama. Major unions are backing OBama. After Wisconsin, you will more major endorsements – maybe even from Edwards and Gore. Hillary has a basic trust problem – she does not speak from her heart, only what she thinks will work that day to help her win. The end will be ugly – like when the hyenas turned on Scar in the Lion King!

HILLARY will work for every single one of us, she always has. Her positions have always been ones that unify and unite all of us. She has fought for the rights of all whites, blacks, latinos, all races, religions, genders, etc.
A white man, a black woman, a latino child, everyone is included in Hillary’s record.
WHO WOULD OBAMA FAVOR? WHAT ARE HIS TRUE INTENTIONS? How do we know what laws he will want to pass? Who he will put in his Cabinet? Does he have a secret agenda? He is all words now, I worry what his focus will be if he is the President. His Church hates White People and Jews. What other hatred does he have? Will he use his Presidency to continue his Church teachings about hating White people?
Our Country is too fragile now to take any of these chances. What if our Country gets worse and worse? Four years is a long time, enough time to ruin a great Country. Look how Bush has destroyed us. We REALLY don’t know anything about what Obama wants to do, or would do if he were really in charge of our Country. Four years on an untested, uncharted person is too many to risk! VOTE HILLARY or McCAIN!!

Bob10001, exactly. Hillary called her words solutions and Obama’s words speeches. She can’t jusitify how those are qualified differently. Obama’s plans are more detailed than hers, but then those Irmas and Nancys in this board wanted to say that, “Yes! Yes! Hillary has solutions!” While Hillary is more ambiguous than Obama.
So let’s see, attacking her opponent’s strength (speech) as weakness? Clever, but not clever enough to fool people. Of course she fools some, like the Irmas and Nancys in this blog.
She said speeches don’t put food on table, or add fuel in your tank, etc. Wait a minute. I would like to see her solutions put food on table, and add fuel in my tank, …but how do I know? I already know that once she is elected, she is going to tax us to death to fulfill her Marxism. No food, no gas, no mortgage help (not like her reporting security expense of her New York home the same amount as her mortgage). Then what do we do? Too late then. Too late then.

Posted by: I.A.T Smith | February 15, 2008, 6:59 am 6:59 am
I don’t think the comments the article points out are particularly savory, but I do agree with the point. Motivational speeches alone don’t make policy to solve the problems we face today.
And we would never remember the words of JFK, MLK, FDR, Lincoln, and the rest if they had not lead America the way they did. Bush’s speech after 9/11 would have gone down in history if it had not been for his record. Words are important, yes, but we need words + action + policy + leadership, etc.
If you’re wondering if Hillary is merely “words” as well, you should look at her record of fighting for policies to help the U.S. She’s been on Capitol hill trying to push forward the mortgage rate freeze, expanding children’s healthcare, timetables for troop withdrawal… You can call her what you may, but you can’t call her a coward or someone who won’t fight for the American people.

On a list of today’s most used words, change, ranks at the top. Oddly, many use the word to turn any differences of opinion about an issue into an argument about change. Those who don’t agree with your idea are opposed to change.
TO CHANGE OR NOT TO CHANGE is an absurd question. Change is certain & constant. It occurs in nature & in society. It may be positive or negative. It may move us forward or backward. Wise leaders do not debate change. They debate the merits of a particular idea or plan. You are trying to dehumanize the Clintons but the facts speak for themselves. The Clintons are a strong power couple who have made more positive changes in our country over the past 35 years than any negative BS you try to bring up. That’s the kind of leadership I want for our country. Hillary is smart, savy, knowledgeable about foreign affairs & all the real issues plus hardworking. She does not give up & that’s the kind of person I want to lead our country. Someone who will fight for us & our domeatic interests.
Sorry, but Obama’s whining and reading speeches written by Ted Sorenson, JFK’s speech writer, will not inpress international leaders or encourage them to work with us.

LindaMA – I live not too far away from Capitol Hill, and I haven’t seen any of Clinton’s “fighting” you speak of. Outside of the campaign, her time on Capitol Hill seems more directed to fundraising and writing earmarks for New York.
Take the economic stimulus plan. She called for one as a candidate, but she didn’t propose one as a senator – and she surely could have without skipping a beat on the campaign trail, because her Senate office is still up and running.
Actually I have that same criticism of Sen Obama, too (who I support). Neither actually proposed anything except campaign talk, and the packages suggested, which aren’t too disimilar from the one we’ll get, are meaningless drops in the bucket, meant only to pander as opposed to actually pull the economy out of recession.

This current contest is the most interesting ever I beleive because of the possibilities.I beleive a democrat needs to win the white house.Unfortunately, within the democratic party there is too much fighting within the party. Some want Obama. Some want Hillary. Both are democrats and both will have similar views on how the country should be lead. I want Obama, but if Hillary wins I need to back her. I don’t want to but will need to since I am more of what one would call a moderate democrat. If you are a democrat YOU NEED TO STOP trashing the your candidate’s democratic opponent.Do you think Romney really wanted to back McCain? No..but he did because he knows the republican party needs to be unified.Look at voter turnout. It is so high on the democratic side. All democrats want change and Hillary and Barack bring a form of that. She cannot ignore him and his signifigance and he cannot ignore her. They both need to stop attacking one another especially her. And like Hillary said let the voters decide. This desperation and determination within the democrat party is going and is causing a civil war within the party. THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM!!!Look at their combined votes and the turnout for them combined. These two monumental figure need to figure out how to join as one.It is so stupid and near sided of her to tear Obama down. If she wins, it would be in her best interest to gain that massive momentum of voters that wanted Obama. She WILL NOT be able to gain his supporters if she continues to do her best to destroy him.She needs to focus her attention on herself, what she can and will do and how it is fundamentally good for the country. All of you democrats that want to destroy Hillary or Barack”s chances Shame On YOU!Demorats…Democrats…Democrats…A House divided against itself will surely fall! We need charisma, inspiration, knowledge, experience and someone that can fight and between the two HILLARY AND BARACK have got what the democrats need.Hillary is right. Someone needs to be able to fight the republicans that want to fight and YES SHE CAN do just that.Barack is right when he says we need to be able to pull people together so that we can have a working majority and YES HE CAN do just that.If she wins he needs to be the vice president period. If he wins she needs to be vice president period. It would not be an easy pair but THEY need to communicate the need for it. Apologies have to be made on both sides of the democratic coin. Yes they have contrasts , but no one can ignore the huge following they both have.Barack can reach the people she never could and vice versa. They can benefit from strengthening each other weaknesses.Democrats stop pointing out your fellow democrats flaws because no one enjoys this more than a republican that wants the white house for yet another 4 years.

You’ve been blinded. Saying negative things about her opponent is the strategy, as long as they are factual. She wasn’t saying anythng negative between SC and Obama’s big victories the past days while your candidate Obama was attacking her a lot during the same period of time and you are ignorant! With the media’s “help”, it doesn’t work if she attacks – Obama gets sympathy votes; it doesn’t work when she doesn’t attack – Obama begins to attack and people believe he was right on them all and translate them as weakness of Clinton’s. Come on, be little fair and square, please! You’ve been blindly following the momentums and don’t even want to listen to what Clinton has to offer! I bet you haven’t tuned in and stayed all the way to the end of any of her speeches! That’s why you haven’t heard any specifics from her. Obama is stealing away the presidency from Clinton. I would feel ok if he gets nominated after a fair competion, but I have big problems with him getting votes everywhere with his rhetoric speeches along with so called charm and charisma.
Posted by: snakebaby | February 15, 2008, 4:32 pm 4:32 pm
I have been listening to the candidates talk and watching what they are doing while campaigning. According to McCains manager he has been just going from town to town and talking about his POW experience. Barack has been calling Kenya, Africa every day concerned about the fighting over there according to His campaign manager. His manager said he has been pre-occupied with Africa and I believe it because the night of the Iowa Caucus we all watched him call Kenya and talk to them about their fighting. Then you have Hillary, whom went to California at the request of “The Terminator” and Oprah’s Best Friend, Arnold Swatzanagger. Arnold had asked the Clintons to go to Ca. To help him figure out a way to fix CA. Problems with the economy. She and Bill took Time out from campaigning to do just that and have already implemented plans into action to fix it. Just as they had done after the first financial deficit that the first Bush has gotten us into. Since then as she goes state to state, she has been systematically meeting with those heads of states and asking what she can do to help them get out of debt and rebuild the economy. Not only that but she has been working out plans to increase our energy through alternate methods of solar power rather than us needing oil and wrecking our planet that contributes to global warming. Plus she is trying to get the cost of college tuition down and make more grants available to college students. So everyone has a fair chance at getting an education. She has always felt as I do that no matter who you are that ALL CHILDREN SHOULD HAVE HEALTH CARE. Kids have to come first. Without our kids we have no future generations. She is already responding like a commander and chief to our problems in America. Why? Because she cares about each person in America. She has a passion for this country and love for this country and its people like we all had just after 9/11. But it Is daily, never ending in her. She is a problem solver.
I remember when the First bush got out of office and we were all afraid that our children’s childrens’ grandchildren would be paying off the large deficit he impacted on us. Along come Hillary and Bill Clinton and they not only get us out of debt, but they give us a large surplus like we had never had before. Then Bill began making peace between Israel and the Palestinans, and giving money and apologys to the African Americans for the crimes of America against them for slavery as well as to the Japanese when they were put into camps here. The Bible says “Blessed are the peacemakers.” For the first time in history people were able to quit their jobs and become entenpuers and own their companies. They established start up loans and grants for so many small businesses. The tables were turned for if you wanted someone to work for you, you had to treat them with respect and give them perks. So with the Clinton’s we had peace in the world, a Hugh surplus, a booming economy and more kids in college than ever before. And there was so much work for whoever wanted a job. The Clinton’s has given us Hope. They had inspired us to be all that we could ever be or hope to be. Everyone was happy.
Then I remember when Bush ran, and how Barbara Streisand got up in front of a big crowd and told them “You don’t remember what it was like before the Clinton’s. You have forgotten the despiration we in America were in.” Please remember and vote for Al Gore.” But instead Bush got in. The media controlled by conservative Replublicans promoted Bush and we have had 8 years of hell. I remember telling people that I had heard on television one time and the media never played it again where Bush had told his father on stage at a rally that when he got in he would take care of Saddam. No one believed me. When I heard Tony Blair say that on national television that he had received a fax about 9/11 three days prior and had told Bush about it, no one believed me.
The media has taken away our sense of what is rational, or moral or believeable. They pushed Bush’s lies through out his terms in office. Bush made our economy so bad that people will do anything to get money. The networks exploite that by rewarding the most devious and evil of people on these reality shows. Lately even Donald Trump has shown people like Steven Baldwin with morals and doing what is right at the cost of loosing and playing for charity. We have all lost what makes us humans, to care about someone else more than ourselves. But even though she has been insulted, arrogance thrown at her, Hillary still continues to love Americans and try to fix their problems.
I have a problem with Barack Hussain Obama and his platform for what he is running for and here it is:
1. Obama made a comment about Congress. He said on t.v. That if Congress said no to something and he disagreed that he would do it anyway. Who does that sound like? Bush. 2. He said that if the people wanted him to do something and he did not do it, not to come to him, because it was up to the people to take care of their own problems. I don’t call that inspiring or giving hope. If you don’t want to fix peoples problems why do you want to be a President of those people? What is your real motive? Michelle Obama said this recently in Ohio while campaigning for him: “Hillary Clinton has said about Barack that her husband hasn’t spelled out solutions to the nation’s problems”.It is true he won’t say how he will do anything. All he talks about is “inspiration” which won’t put food on your table, or pay your college tuition or give you medical attention when you need it. Michelle Obama said the race “has nothing to do with plans and policies.” oh, really, than what does? Plans and policies are what make or break a nation!!! Do you think that when you get into office that just saying the words “inspiration” or “hope” is going to feed your kids or mine? Jesus said, “I will show you my faith by my works.” Doing and bringing about solutions and helping others is what brings about Hope and inspiration not saying the words. As we have seen on television anyone can talk a good script and throw out words like “He’s the one” or “Its okay to vote for a black man instead of a woman.” thanks so much for your permission. Anyone can write and say the words. The bible says “hope deferred makes the heart sad.” Bill and Hillary got us out of debt and that is what gave us hope. Hope to start our own companies, Hope to send our kids to college.” Tax rebates for the middle and low income families. They set up HUD to start giving out home loans and grants to people who could not other wise afford it. When you are a homeowner you are than inspired to be all that you can become. This is what inspires us than to become all we can become as a people and as a nation.
Michelle Obama said: “Your character is measured by what you do in the shadows when no one is watching. Barack has been working in the shadows for a long time. Really tell us what has he done that has significantly changed peoples lives the way the clintons have? Nothing. You have to show a real commitment to the people. We haven’t seen that in a leader in my lifetime”, she continued to say. Really? Then where has she been? Is she saying than that John F. Kennedy was not committed because he was in her lifetime? I mean they paraded pictures around of John F. Kennedy as though he were a god and displayed his daughter so I mean that is a real turn around during Obamas campasign and now Obamas wife is saying that she & Obama have seen no one that is committed in their lifetime in office. Double mindedness on their part I would say. Well Bill & Hillary made a committed effort to make peace with the world and gave money to the blacks for their relatives that were enslaved. He gave money to the Japanese whose parents and grandparents were enslaved. He tried to make up for the crimes of our past. He never told people “Don’t come to me if you have a problem like Obama did. He started an office in Harlem of all places to be near the people to better understand them and help them with their problems and he did help the African Americans. He has always been known for his championship in their causes. They have always looked up to and been inspiried by Bill and that is one reason why Oprahs mentor, Maya Angelou is backing Hillary. They were committed enough to giving us a surplus and getting rid of the large deficet we had. And they it possible for peoples hope to be realized of home ownership and having a job and medical care to provide for their families. They gave inspiration and hope to mothers on welfare and broke the cycle of them having to continue generation after generation of being on it, by providing child care expenses for them, a college education and thus giving them the tools they needed to succeed and provide and support their families. They gave them hope and inspired them to become the people they could become. You need more than words like hope and inspiration you actually have to provide help along with it. Obama talks the talk but does not walk the walk. As we all know talk is cheap.
Now recently I have come across many obama supporters and they act hateful. They remind me of how the Republicans used to treat all Democrats. I remember when the Dixie Chicks went up against Bush and had death threats given to them and their CD’s burned in public and now everyone sees they were right and supports them again. The media did a hachet job on them for a long time though. We need to remember that WE ARE ALL AMERICANS AND WE ARE ON THE SAME SIDE. If any obama supporters were ever in trouble and I could help them, I would without hesitation. We may disagree on who is best to run our country, but we are all Americans.
“Your character is measured by what you do in the shadows when no one is watching. Barack has been working in the shadows for a long time. You have to show a real commitment to the people. We haven’t seen that in a leader in my lifetime.”
Yes, but see that is exactly what Hillary and Bill have done their entire life. Even after office Bill Clinton has been a champion for Black rights as well as every other minority out there, but especially blacks rights. Blacks have always praised them for all the help they have given to them. Bill of all the places on earth and with all his money chose to set up his office in Harlem. Why ? to help in anyway he could. I mean it seems that Barack hangs out with rich white people and Bill hangs out with the African Americans helping in the community. Even building homes with Habitat for Humanity. Barack has done no community service to speak of.
I will show you my faith by my works Jesus said.
While obama has been campaigning, just let me say that Arnold Swartzanagger asked the clintons for their help to get the flagging economy in California out of debt. Hillary and Bill met with him and gave him some good ideas. Plus, Obama has said out his own mouth, that he has gone to Hillary asking for her advice many times. And she has always given it to him.
Paul Krugman from the New York times has put these facts up to show that the people Barack says he wants out of office are actually the ones that have come out in support for him. This is how they voted and what they said. Ted Kennedy the one who got up and said “Barack did not vote for the war” did himself advocate it. Now, I did not believe in the war and I was unpopular for saying it. But one thing we must be aware of is we have to always put our national security first. We don’t want another 9/11 happen to us.
“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seing and developing weapons of mass destruction.”
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002.
“I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002.
“We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction. “[W]ithout question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime … He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he has continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction … So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real …
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003.
He talks about Hillary being some of the old establishment, well, Ted Kennedy is the oldest and uses pork tax dollars.
MAntoin “Tony” Rezko, an entrepreneur who made a fortune in pizza parlors, Chinese restaurants and real estate, goes on trial next month on federal charges of extortion, influence peddling and conspiracy. There is no suggestion that Obama is involved in any of the alleged criminal activity. But the upcoming trial — and details of Obama’s relationship with its central figure — could cast a shadow over his carefully cultivated image at a critical time.
In recent weeks, including during the debate, Obama sought to minimize the nature of that relationship. Ost and is backing obama. You want to know who someone is, look at their backers. During his speech Tuesday night, Obama pushed this negative attack on Hillary:
“It’s a choice between a candidate who’s taken more money from Washington lobbyists than either Republican in this race and a campaign that has not taken a dime of their money.”
But…..Sen. Obama’s comments came on the same week Public Citizen released a report detailing ten bundlers for Sen. Obama who have registered as federal lobbyists.
It also came at the same time that his former fundraising chairman and the man Obama called his “political Godfather”, Antoin “Tony” Rezko, is about to be tried on federal charges of fraud involving bribery and political corruption.
In this campaign Sen. Obama has also taken money from former lobbyists, partners of lobbyists, people who hire lobbyists, lobbyists’ spouses, children of lobbyists and of course…any state lobbyists that wants to bundle up a million or so is very welcome to.
These are the facts, according to the Campaign Finance Institute: http://www.cfinst.org/pr/prRelease
“Obama, whose campaign claims to have almost 500,000 donors in 2007, raised 54% of his $97.2 million from $1,000 and over donations (mostly in $2300 checks).”
(Less than a third, only 32%, of his money in 2007 came from $200 or less contributions.)
Like the Roman figure of Janus, Obama seems quite comfortable talking out of both sides of his two faces.
But anyone who has been paying attention to the facts and not just the fluff of the Obama campaign already knows this.
An Asterisk To Obama’s Policy On Donations
A presidential hopeful’s refusal of lobbyist money has its limits
By Dan Morgan, LA Times Staff Writer
http://www.caclean.org/problem/latimes_2 007-04-22
Until he started running for president, Sen. Obama took money from federal lobbyists and, as a state senator, directly from corporations. (Which is LEGAL in Illinois politics!)
Obama attained the lofty mark (of leading in Presidential fundraising) even as he decried the fundraising system. In his Internet appeals for small donations, Obama played up populist themes of reform.
“It may sound strange for a presidential candidate to launch a fundraising drive that isn’t about dollars. But our democracy shouldn’t be about money, and it’s time our campaigns weren’t either,” he said in one such pitch.
“We’re not going to play that game,” the e-mail said.”
Obama said in his first-quarter financial report that he received money from 104,000 donors, twice as many as Clinton, suggesting a disproportionate number of small contributions. But the Campaign Finance Institute said Obama still received 68% of his money from donations of $1,000 or more…
Rules for lobbyists
Lobbyists generally are paid by corporations, unions and other interest groups to shape public policy by making regular contact with government officials. They must register with both houses of Congress, and make public disclosures identifying their clients and the amounts they are paid.
Some of the most influential players, lawyers and consultants among them, skirt disclosure requirements by merely advising clients and associates who do actual lobbying, and avoiding regular contact with policymakers. Obama’s ban does not cover such individuals.
For example, partners from the Atlanta-based law firm Alston & Bird donated $33,000 to Obama in the first 90 days of 2007.
Alston & Bird has a large lobbying division in Washington. It billed its clients nearly $3.9 million in 2006, ranking 35th among Washington lobbyists. Alston boasts on its website that it offers clients “unique experience with how policy is made” and knows “the people who make it: government and agency officials; members of Congress and their staff.”
Obama kept $2,300 donated by Alston’s Tom Daschle, the former Senate Democratic leader (and general chairman of the Obama for President campaign). Daschle, located in Washington, is neither a lawyer nor a lobbyist. He is a consultant.
According to Alston’s website, Daschle advises “clients on issues related to all aspects of public policy with a particular emphasis on issues related to financial services, health care, energy, telecommunications and taxes.”
Daschle did not return phone calls.
(Note: Daschel’s wife is the head lobbyist for the Airline Industry, she was behind the Congressional airline bailout after 9/11, and has been reported to be amongst the highest paid lobbyists in town)
The Obama campaign makes a very big issue of not taking money directly from “federal lobbyists”….but he’s happy to take money directly from their clients! In the first quarter of 2007 alone, Obama took in a combined $170,000 from executives from Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, two financial giants that have numerous issues pending in Washington and spent a total of $4.6 million on lobbying in 2006.
But wait…There’s More!
Nuke Em! Power provider’s largess
Obama’s biggest single source of corporate money, over $160,000, came from executives at Exelon Corp., the nation’s largest nuclear power provider, and its subsidiary, Commonwealth Edison, an Illinois utility. This includes checks from lobbyists John P. Novak and James Monk. In Springfield, Novak represents Exelon., and Monk is president of the Illinois Energy Assn., a trade group that represents Commonwealth Electric.

From the Boston Globe:
But behind Obama’s campaign rhetoric about taking on special interests lies a more complicated truth. A Globe review of Obama’s campaign finance records shows that he collected hundreds of thousands of dollars from lobbyists and PACs as a state legislator in Illinois, a US senator, and a presidential aspirant.
In Obama’s eight years in the Illinois Senate, from 1996 to 2004, almost two-thirds of the money he raised for his campaigns — $296,000 of $461,000 — came from PACs, corporate contributions, or unions, according to Illinois Board of Elections records. He tapped financial services firms, real estate developers, healthcare providers, oil companies, and many other corporate interests, the records show.
Obama’s US Senate campaign committee, starting with his successful run in 2004, had collected over $1.5 million from PACs and lobbyists, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonprofit organization that tracks money in politics.
In Roman mythology, Janus was the god of gates, doors and doorways. What’s always on the inside of the doorways in both the State Capital in Springfield and the US Capital in Washington? Plenty of lobbies and lobbyists. Lets look at some of Obamas…

The bible says that a double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Barack talks about campagin reform, and than hires a Guy that goes on trial as an extortionist and conspiracy. He says he comes out against big corporate America and than takes money from the. He says he hates the established congressman and senators that do business as usual and than they come out in support of him. Ted Kennedy has always been known for his underground connections. We all know this. He says he is for the little people, yet Bill Clinton is still working to help the little people and has his office in one of the worst cities. Who is more grounded and aware of peoples problems. You know as I said anyone can write and give a great speech, but I like what Jesus said, ” I will show you my faith by my works” and that is what the Clintons have always done and will continue to always do.
Please investigate this and vote for Hillary for 2008 so we can get our economy back on track and our nation in a good place again.

I was honored to apply and be chosen for my position, as president of teens for Hillary.
I’m voting and supporting Hillary because I trust her and she’s honest and intelligent. After 8 years of the Bush regime we need a leader who will actually lead.
Hillary is the only candidate with a Health Care plan that covers EVERY American; Obama’s plan leaves 15 Million Americans un-insured. Hillary is the only candidate with an Economic Stimulus plan that freezes home foreclosures. On Iraq; she has showed an exquisite ammount of leadership. She has already pressed the Bush administration to prepare a withdrawal plan. She has also pledged to make Iraq her first priority in office; and begin troop redeployment in her first 60 days; Obama has pledged a year!
And last, experience trumphs change. You can make all the non-inspiring speeches in the world; but those don’t create change, they won’t get you health insurance, they won’t save your familys home, they won’t end the war or create peace. Hillary has spent 35 years making change and has the record to prove it.
I’ve chosen my candidate. Its Hillary Clinton; and she’s in it to win it. Come Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania the nomination is ours.
Nows the time to back Hillary.

The President in the end does decide. So we want a president with a heart & a brain !! Not a dictator like bush, or a marshmallow that can’t even debate while just running in the primaries. The Only Logical & Responsible Person to Vote for is Hillary !! She’ll go to the Whitehouse taking our concerns with her & ready on day 1 to put into action the smart solutions for this country to get America back to the people. And it’s rightful place in the world.

Let’s get out there and communicate and support this capable candidate. She’s the only one who will truly make change happen because she has a history of making change. Those of us who are backing Hillary have been quiet and let others think we don’t exist. Well… we do. And now it’s time to roar!

Until now, I have been excited about the political races and what is happening in the democratic party but I think Hillary is getting ugly in her attacks of Obama. I also don’t want a president whose husband has to take on her fights. If Bill has to take on Obama — what will happen with the likes of Ahmadinejad, Osama bin Laden, or other terrorist groups. I kept thinking if Hillary beats Obama I will vote for Hillary. But with cheap shots about Obama’s speaches and Bill stepping in swinging like a bully instead of a former President – I don’t think I can take another 4-8 years!

After March 4, 2008 it will all
be over for Bill and Hillary(I still can’t figure out who’s running for
President)! Return home, Carpetbaggers!
