Clinton Pleased With Last Night, No Promises on Next Week

ABC News’ Kate Snow and Eloise Harper Report: A smiling Senator Hillary Clinton told reporters aboard her plane today that she was “really pleased” with her performance in last night’s debate.

Asked by ABC News if she disagreed with pundits who said she did not deliver a needed “knockout punch” in the Cleveland debate, Clinton said she disagreed.

“That’s a prize fight. That’s not a debate,” Clinton said.  “Real contrasts were drawn,” she continued.

As her plane bumped along through snowy skies ten minutes before landing on the short flight from Cleveland to Columbus, Ohio, Clinton emphasized that millions of people have yet to vote in this nomination battle and that she’s looking forward to next Tuesday’s contests.

“What keeps me optimistic is the success I’ve had so far and the support I’m getting,” Clinton said.

“What keeps me going is that I know I would be the best president.”

Asked, however, if she would promise her supporters she would not drop out after Tuesday, Senator Clinton did not issue a categorical promise.

"I don’t think about it like that. I’m doing everything I can to win. And that’s what I intend to do," she said.

Clinton was heading to her first event Wednesday in Zanesville, Ohio, where she is to hold an economic summit discussion.

She said she thought that — barring any unforeseen events — the economy would be “the domestic driver” of this election.

“Focusing on the economy is very important to me because if we don’t turn it around we’re going to have twin challenges," she said, "We’re sliding into a recession and the price of everything is going up."

Clinton argued that she has more experience than Barack Obama to deal with economic issues.  And she said she had more detailed proposals to help homeowners dealing with foreclosure.

“It’s better to have them paying $800 than to have to give up their homes because they can’t afford to pay a $1300 mortgage.”

“Senator Obama does not have a plan. Senator McCain does not have a plan,” she said.

She was pleased with her performance?
I guess if you’re Hillary Clinton you can be pleased if you come off
Whiney, Nasty, Rude, and Evasive!
How about those Tax Returns, Hillary,
what are You Hiding?
How about those First Lady Papers?
What are you Hiding?

Senator where there is a will there is way. you came through with your messages. The media is still very hard on you. I admire you for the courage you have, may God keep you save.

What a qualified actress!!! She knows how to comfort herself. No one makes own assessment on this earth. Its the role of people who were watching her.

I have never seen anybody who is into him/herself as Hillary is, the frequent and continued use of “I” is not a good sign, people will runaway when somebody is just talking about “I”. She was not able to run a political campaign, how she could run the US economy or the US government or be the Commander in Chief. Her lack of managerial skills are unbelievable, she cannot predict because for her primaries were before they have started and in her worse case scenario primaries will end after super Tuesday. She has to get out and learn from her friend NYer Rudy Giuliani who has spent his political legacy in one shot in Florida.

The media just hates Hillary. I cannot wait for the analysis that is done after the election to show how unfavorable they are to her in terms of coverage. Now that all the news sites have blogs, it seems reporters think they are now allowed to have opinions.

I’m a Hillary supporter. I listened to CNN reporter last night covering Baghdad and he said things were really looking good over there. Then he further stated that there was no way either Hillary or Obama was going to removed troops from Iraq when or if they get in office. He went on to say the Gulf states, the Iraq government, the American military, combined with events on the ground will decide for them. Then he stated again there is no way Hillary or Obama will removed troops.

This election is going to be one big fight If Hillary gets in the Media and all the swift boaters will go afte her IF Obama gets it thier will be a field day and every little thing will be run thru the mud and if MCcain gets in there will be plenty to say from the dems. In the end if BO does not get it the AA will be raging and if the women don’t get it well all H— will break out to. so what is the answer a third party jumping in thats what I want some one jumping in at the end I’d kick thier butt to . I for one would like to see the pollester Co get thier a—-kicked and the media for reporting unfairand and bias .

I am appalled at the degree of propaganda being forced on the public by all types of media. They are trying to influence the outcome of this election. Communist countries have nothing over on them. Shame on you all.

They had a debate last night?

Posted by: Paul | February 27, 2008, 1:21 pm 1:21 pm

I don’t think the media is bias I know the media is bias. Anyone with one brain cell left alive can tell you Obama is the chosen one for all media. However, a larger point causes me to now wonder to what extent does the media SHAPE our news. What is real? Where is the truth? I don’t know who or what I can trust anymore with any of the media.

Posted by: Mike | February 27, 2008, 1:24 pm 1:24 pm

My question is why the media dislikes Clinton so much. They have more access to her than most of her supporters. Is there something the reporters see that her supporters don’t?

Posted by: Paul | February 27, 2008, 1:27 pm 1:27 pm

Paul, I suspect it’s somewhat like us here in real life, sometimes we personally like people and sometimes we don’t and for no particular reason you or I can explain even to our friends. We just don’t.

Posted by: Wil | February 27, 2008, 1:31 pm 1:31 pm

I think you’re on to something, Wil. And perhaps that’s the single best reason I’ve heard for the Democrats nominating someone else.

Hillary can’t win! When she comes off tough, the media blasts her for being so mean! When she is soft, they call her teary! What the heck! Same old double standard! Why doesn’t that appy to Obama! I guess you can do and say anything (that has no substance) when your man! Im sick of the media saying he is winning and she is losing. It looks like a draw so far. Neither have the delegates needed to win the nomination. I guess the media wants her to lose, shame on you!

Posted by: Marny | February 27, 2008, 1:50 pm 1:50 pm

Look at the questions Tim Russert asked last night. You know he is angry because she waited to do Meet the Press. Also he is known not to like her. What is going to come out of all of this is media backlash. In the next election, why have newspeople be the moderators? Here is a thought, get someone else respected to be the moderator, say Tom Hanks, and just have him ask questions which he collected from people in the audience and the internet. No media needed and no personal agendas.

Posted by: Jim | February 27, 2008, 1:52 pm 1:52 pm

What is up with Barack Obama talking to Will Smith about him potentially playing Obama in a movie. Obama stated “if ever a movie should be made about me I would like Will Smith to play me becasue we have the same ears. Will and I have discussed it. What an ego. What makes him think his life or he for that fact is worth making a movie about. See guy – I was a supporter of yours but I will vote for Hillary. How arrogant he is. Jerk!

Hillary quotes:::“What keeps me optimistic is the success I’ve had so far and the support I’m getting,” Clinton said.
“What keeps me going is that I know I would be the best president.”
Wasn’t it just last week she said that what kept her going was thinking about US and how WE were doing with this awful economy, lost jobs, poor health care, etc. She really does believe it’s all about her and what she wants. NOTE: She used a “I” and “me” 6 times in 2 sentences.

Posted by: dream on | February 27, 2008, 1:59 pm 1:59 pm

Yea, the media is totally bias. I like PBS news, boring at times, but unbias. Hillary is going to be interviewed by them tonight. As for people who hate Hillary, you have no reason to hate her. You are just repeating what you have heard Rush Limbaugh say, and the only reason he doesn’t like her is because she is a woman with a backbone. At least she has original thoughts, the other candidate, BHO, hasn’t had an original thought in his life. The only reason he is getting better at debating is because he just repeats what Hillary says from the previous debate. If people were paying attention and thinking for themselves, they would see that. HILLARY 2008!

Posted by: Heather | February 27, 2008, 1:59 pm 1:59 pm

dream on, what about Obama wanting Will Smith to play him? Sounds like it is all about him. But I am sure you have an excuse ready for that statement or belief.

Posted by: Jim | February 27, 2008, 2:03 pm 2:03 pm

Hey dream on
she uses “I” because once a President is elected it isn’t WE anymore and all of the Obama fanatics don’t realize that. We, we we we. We can’t do sh*t once president is elected. Once a president is elected he/she has to go against Congress, the senate and lobbyist. What does Obama think he is going to do walk in the white house on day one and open the skies and everyone will sing and chant and the problems would have gone away. Wake up please

Posted by: Donna | February 27, 2008, 2:06 pm 2:06 pm

Dream on, let’s here your counts of Obama’s repeated, hum drum drum, yes we can, blah, blah, blah, nothin’, nothin, nothin’, hypnotize my audience, you’re going to sleeeeepppppppp…….Obama! BTW, dream on is a perfect name for someone who can type while sleeping.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | February 27, 2008, 2:08 pm 2:08 pm

Obama is an empty suit and I think he just wants to be the first “Black Presidnet” and will do or say anything to change that. I think Hillary wants to be the first woman president and I think she really wants to help people for the right reasons. anyone wanting such a high profile position has to be a bit ego driven but not neccessarily arrogant as I seen how Obama has increasingly becoming. He has lost my vote. Hillary you just gained another vote in Ohio.

What got me freaked out is Fox News, which I never watched before this primary, and they are treating Hillary and Obama very fair. Even Bill O’Reilly is very fair toward Clinton. Something’s not right here when Fox makes CBS, MSNBC, ABC, and the newspaper chains look like a cheering section for Obama. Never thought I’d say that.

Posted by: dream on | February 27, 2008, 2:18 pm 2:18 pm

What is obvious is that the media likes dealing with Obama. With Hillary, they bring out their knives to try to attack her. Then she has to attack back and that provides nice news coverage. At this point, no news person wants to be the one known as the person who attacked Obama. You might lose viewers, access to Obama and grief while covering him. That should not be the basis for covering this election.

Posted by: Jim | February 27, 2008, 2:20 pm 2:20 pm

Right on Toby! Hillary has to fight the media to win this election and that is a tough fight to win. A very strong lady with yes a controversial past but with whitewater investigated and cleared but people still use stuff like this against her.

Posted by: Karl | February 27, 2008, 2:22 pm 2:22 pm

There is a growing divide in the democratic party between the Obama people and the Hillary people. Furthermore, the divide is growing rapidly wider each and every day. We are now at the point where I cannot see any way for the Hillary folks and Obama folks can ever come together. I’m speaking as a Hillary supporter. I cannot accept Obama and they cannot accept Clinton. Therefore, if we lose I will write in Hillary’s name in November.

Posted by: Marlene | February 27, 2008, 2:22 pm 2:22 pm

Mike, yea, I totally agree about the Fox News thing. Never thought I would agree with that, but they are being far more fair about Clinton than any other news media. HILLARY 2008!

Posted by: Heather | February 27, 2008, 2:25 pm 2:25 pm

Thanks Heather. I think the media had me convinced Fox News was only for bigots until I checked for myself. Another media myth. Sure Hannity is a nut over there but he lets me know he not attempting to be anything else. I can deal with that. I’m a male 1000% Hillary supporter. That will never, never, change even if we lose. I will write in Hillary’s name come November because I know who and what is best for America. Period!

Posted by: Mike | February 27, 2008, 2:32 pm 2:32 pm

Brian – Obama just surpassed a million contributors. That’s unprecedented. He’s at the head of a political movement that is on the verge of beating an “inevitable” party insider for the Democratic nomination.
I’d say that’s a worthy storyline.
Rocky was based on a Chuck Wepner fight against Ali. At the time, no one had any thoughts of that insignificant fight becoming the basis for a movie, with the possible exception of Sylvester Stallone (I think he was in the ringside crowd). And I say “possibly,” because I doubt that Stallone even knew it at the time. But the underdog nobody ever heard of taking an Ali walloping for 15 rounds left an impression, and the rest of cinematic history.
With the Obama campaign, its certainly an easier call to make than it was with the Wepner fight.

I haven’t watched MSNBC until last night’s debate, but have rea/heard/seen clips of the horrible SEXIST remarks people on that channel have made about her/her family and I think it is just wrong. I am sorry, but it was easy to tell after a few minutes that the moderator(s) how SEXIST they really are. I honestly don’t blame Hillary for having to be tough with them last night. I truly feel VERY sorry for her and I have almost been in tears at times for her b/c of the HORRIBLE treatment she has been getting not only from the media, but Obama and his supporters as well. It just makes me have more and more respect for her everytime I see what horrible things are being said about her. I wish I could be half as strong a woman as she is, but I doubt I will ever be that strong. I do truly respect this woman’s strength to deal with all the attacks she has had going against for so many years now.

Even the press is saying the press is tougher on Hillary. See the article on NYTimes where they talk about how Tim Russert was helping Obama. If you can figure out that answer, there is a problem.

HRC, exactly how do you plan to get mortgage companies to reduce what they will accept in payments? Here is the short answer, you can. The President has no authority in this. Not to mention that the damage has been done, by the time the next President is in office hundreds of thousands of forclosures will have been completed. Mine is one of them. The issue is no longer just addressing foreclosures, but how will the people that have been through it will recover. For the next 10 years my choices are to rent or pay an extremely high interest rate, it won’t matter how much I improve my credit or if I come up with a 10 or 20% down payment and I am at he higher end of the scale, with a solid work history and consistent income. what about those people HRC?

I think the media is that fourth branch of government that is siding plitical activists ideas about their qualifications with the Sen. Clinton who is running for the United States President aalot lower and maybe because her backer and supporters are not political scientists handling a important job like the ‘most important person in the world’is a lot out of their credentials because of education chrisma.
So let’s look at the MEDIA
Is the media powerful enough to serve as a fourth branch of government?
Part of the strength of the media in US politics is the media having to take overa large part of the political information function carried out by political parties. Media role is the public’s attention focused to nation politics. Other effects of themedia serving as a virtual fourth branch of US government is, the fact that it enlarges the pluralism of the American system of politics and government, dispersinfg and fragmenting power even more than required by the constitutional system. The watchdog or investigating role of the mediahas eroded people’s confidence in government. Serving as a fourth branch of government the media makes it harder for the other three branches of government to act coherently . Failure of the other three branches , the media’s effect diminish the general power, reputation and acceptability of those branches.
The bottom line [the media quest for profits], rather than the public’s interest, increasingly drives mews coverage…The news has become increasingly sensational… the relentless search for attention getting stories weakens the press’s ability to provide citizens a clear understanding of what is a broadly at issue with politics. It is a difficult job trying to formulate society’s problems in a way citizens can understand and act upon them. The news media cannot do the job consistently well.

I agree with all you people out there that will write Hillary in Nov. if BHO wins the dem. nom. There is growing divide among dems. because we remember how HILLARY has fought for us all these years. The people too young to remember when she stood up in front of all those African men and demanded female circumcision to stop now and told the Chinese that women’s rights was human rights and that it was shameful for them to try to separate the two have forsaken the dem. party. True democrats know who has a backbone and who doesn’t. Don’t be sheep following the herd, be the change you want to see in the world! HILLARY 2008!

Don’t worry about the Democratic Party. Don’t worry about the Republican Party. Worry about women’s rights, children’s rights, healthcare for all, and the freedom to choose the one who truly represents those battles. In the end, it is not the party that matters most; it is the policies and needs for the people that matter most.
Vote Hillary!

They know as well as we do what another 4 years of a Republican administration will mean to the environment, healthcare, the economy, the war lets pray that they experience a “road to Damascus” moment before pulling such a careless stunt.

Wow, this blog is filled with people who have no memory between 1992 and 2000, or the recent years the Hillary was making herself a Senator in NY. The championship goes to “courtjusperk” who claimed she cried and cried watching the press grilling Hillary who is so very strong. “courtjusperk” sobs, “I don’t know if I could be that strong.”
What?! I watched the whole debate. Tim Russert pointed out to Hillary, “Senator Obama is correct about your inconsistency…You said you supported NAFTA when you were in White House…when you were in New York…” She became really agitated and finally said, “You don’t know all my records.” You see how she spins. Not strong. Spins!
Those were records! What are you crying about?
Tim Russert tried to be fair. But the only inconsistency he can point out about Obama was very weak, and Obama explained it, to my satisfaction. I don’t know if “courtjusperk” understood it though.
With voters like “courtjusperk”, no wonder the Clintons have survived this long, lying, cheating and stealing from American people. This is the time we use votes to show the part of America that you are neither smart, no majority, and put this issue and Clintonian actitivies completely to rest.

How can they say the media is against them when they have their old friend and

It’s not easy taking on a whole media outlet like NBC and MSNBC, and then your opponent in politics. The fact that she is still in the race is a tribute to her resolve.
We will all be sorry if Obama is the nominee and president. He has no solution to any of our problems, and he knows it. His ditto-heads will figure this out later.
Problem is, we will all suffer the consequences. Get ready to pay $4 – $5 per gallon for gas this summer. I forgot, Obama will make us feel good about paying that much on gas.

The notion that Hilarious Clinton is getting unfair treatment is ridiculous, the reality is she has many more years of flip-floping around on the issues and people are simply trying to find out her latest position. Also it’s seems silly for her to be one minute pushing for a fight then the minute the going gets tough she she starts complaining that she’s receiving unfair treatment. Will be the same as president ? Tough as a wet noodle.

The photo shoots of Hillary during her debate questions had the markings of ‘gotcha” and she held her own. The MSM cosistantly puts her on the defensive and history has shown that she indeed is fine tuned to take on tough issues. Obana has yet to show a toughness. The soft ride the press is giving him indicates a fear to offend him because of his race, matched against a fear of a strong woman. The job requirements awaiting the next president require strong and tested skills; so far they have been best displayed by Senator Clinton.
