Clinton Sharpens Barbs Against Obama

ABC News’ Kate Snow and Eloise Harper Report: Senator Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., hit hard at her top rival at a GM plant  in Lordstown, OH, saying, "Speeches don’t put food on the table. Speeches don’t fill up your tank, or fill your prescription, or do anything about that stack of bills that keeps you up at night."

Clinton continued, "Some people may think words are change. You and I know better. Words are cheap. You can’t just talk about the special interests. You have to take them on."

Watch the video here.

Clinton hit Obama on the special interests, channeling John Edwards, "My opponent says that he’ll take on the special interests. Well, he told people he stood up to the nuclear industry and passed a bill against them. But he actually let the nuclear industry water down his bill – the bill never actually passed. On top of that, the same company that watered down that bill lobbied for Dick Cheney’s energy bill. And my opponent voted for the energy bill, with its billions of dollars of breaks for the oil industry. I voted against it."

Senator Clinton told Ohio voters that the Maytag plant in Obama’s hometown support her, saying, "My opponent says he’ll stand up for workers. He often talks about the plight of Maytag workers in his home state. But the union at that plant supports me, because when 1,600 jobs were being lost, they say he didn’t do a thing to help."

Clinton also accused Senator Obama of copying her plans and ideas. "I was, however, glad to see that yesterday, my opponent adopted the goal of five million green collar jobs months after I announced I would create five million green collar jobs. I was also glad to see that he modeled his $60 billion infrastructure bank on a bill I co-sponsored last summer to create a $60 billion infrastructure bank. Now if only he would just copy my health care plan and provide coverage for every single American!"

Clinton says she doesn’t measure her life by applause lines. "That’s how I measure my life – not by applause or headlines, but by whether I’m helping people."

Senator Clinton’s advisors tell ABC News that Clinton decided to sharpen up her rhetoric in the past days and step up her attacks against Senator Obama.

Obama’s campaign responded to the attacks today with barbs of their own.

“Barack Obama doesn’t need any lectures on special interests from the candidate who’s taken more money from Washington lobbyists than any Republican running for President," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

"Hillary Clinton should tell the people of Ohio the truth — she once bragged about helping to pass the nuclear bill she’s now criticizing Obama for, she came out with her plan for green jobs one month after Obama did, and she’s said she’d ‘go after’ people’s wages if they couldn’t afford health insurance under her plan.  Senator Clinton may have said that attacks and distortions are the ‘fun’ and ‘exciting’ part of the campaign, but they’re exactly what everyone else in America is tired of,” he said.

Health coverage for every single American? Now I am being taxed for people’s ability to consume MacDonalds seven days a week? You are going to send people postal, lady. How about you just take away all freedom, all responsibility, and all choice, and make us into China. Communism is your thing, isn’t it?

If Obama wins, I’m moving to Canada.. He is all talk about change. He never tells you how he is going to change and how he is going to pay for this so called change… We need a leader like Hillary.. She will get the job done!

When has Obama ever played the race card when he has been attacked? He’ll give his shots and take ‘em like the other candidates. At least he never broke into tears.

She sounds like a desparate scorn woman. This is why she doesn’t need to be in office. Typical.

Obama will be the democratic candidate for president. I am a republican and I ask the people of Florida and Michigan to vote McCain 2009. Obama said you were merely voting in a beauty contest, which means your votes mean nothing to him nor the democratic party. He threw you all away for his own personal gain, we will not. Nor did we strip our voters because they too voted early. Say what you will we did not punished the voter for your right to choose a president for your own country. Thank you.

MaCain Economic Advisor says, Obama’s (economic) plan. is the most shameless piece of potential plagiarism that I have ever seen. He basically took Clinton’s words and Clinton’s policies and called them his own. If I were a professor I’d give him an F and try to get him kicked out of school,” said Kevin Hassett, Sen. John McCain’s economic advisor and the Director of Economic Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute.

He talks change, change, change, while i do the same, same, same. How dare he talk about change, when we are doing so good without it. (please note sarcasm)

Poll tracking by Real Clear Politics shows Obama beating Hillary in the general election. It also shows that Hillary will either lose or come close up short against McCain. Rasmussen Reports show Obama winning Nevada and Colorado from McCain, two red states, while Clinton does not.

Hillary Clinton is so desperate. Even if she wins in OH and TX, the way the delegates split, Obama will still be ahead by over 100.

Given that Hillary Clinton has no coattails outside of highly liberal states, how does she expect to bring in enough Democrats in Congress to pass her healthcare plan?
She’s already made it clear that she’s willing to “go after people’s paychecks” to enforce manditory health care, which I think is political suicide on this issue.
Expect a billion dollars worth of health industry attack ads citing what mandates really mean — taking money from people who, for one reason or another, can’t afford to pay.
After that, there’s no way she could get her program passed. Frankly, she doesn’t even have a good chance of beating John McCain…
Barack Obama’s idea of having all the parties involved negotiate a plan while the American people watch and apply pressure on reluctant parties is really the best hope we have for getting healthcare for people.
Mandates, no mandates… who cares? What matters most is having national healthcare insurance that’s available and affordable for practically anyone, saving people’s lives.

Atta girl Hillary. Go get him. Every time I see him spewing more promises on TV, I flip the channel. Anyone buying this spin really needs to take a step back. Today it may be “cool” to support the black man because he is black, not because of anything substantive. After all, we must show the world how liberal and accommodating we are. I’m not that liberal – I want results, nothing less will do.
If anyone doesn’t believe Universal Health Care works, take a trip across the border to Canada. It works, every single day of the week. People don’t lose their homes and life savings because of illness. They don’t end up filing for bankruptcy because of mounting medical bills. IT WORKS, I KNOW THIS, MY CANADIAN FRIENDS BRAG ABOUT THEIR SYSTEM – IT’S A MATTER OF ORGANIZATION AND LOGISTICS.
Keep at him Hillary. Americans are a little slow on the uptake but eventually they will figure him out for exactly what he is – a dream weaver !!

Posted by: Jill Mitchell | February 14, 2008, 1:38 pm 1:38 pm

Who cares, Pat?
First, any economic adviser to George W. McCain is simply promoting the failed policies of his political soulmate, George W. Bush, and thus is not worth spit.
Secondly, o*f course* George W. McCain’s advisers are going to try to prop up Clinton at the expense of Obama! You don’t seriously think George W. McCain wants to run against OBAMA, do you?

Posted by: Mark | February 14, 2008, 1:38 pm 1:38 pm

Oh SHUT UP Hillary! I expect you to get down and dirty, and have been waiting to see how you would go. And you know what?… no one really cares about your dirty tactics. Its all old news. You are a damn GOOD lawyer and a spoiled little girl deep inside who decides if she cannot have what she wants POWER!!!! Then she will do everything she can to destroy… imagine what Bill went through when she found out about his mistresses…scary.

Posted by: Beck | February 14, 2008, 1:38 pm 1:38 pm

Since when does hope and change mean voting “nay” on a vote that would allow credit card companies to charge more than 30% interest on credit cards? Is that the hope and change those most vulnerable to these abuses – the young, the elderly, people of color and individuals and families struggling financially- want or need? Oh yeah, I forgot, 30% was just “a random number” according to Obama? Hillary is no peach, but Obama is no Edwards, and Hillary’s record is looking pretty good right now in comparison. They’ve all been in bed with big business and for Obama to pretend otherwise is a joke. Quit paying attention to the rhetoric and the feel good speeches and start really looking at his record and statements he’s made- I can guarantee you John McCain will be looking real hard at them.

Obama is good at lying, he lied in a smart way so that no one can notice it. He’s always behind the dirty tricks, when S.C blacks distorted Hillary’s comment about Dr. King and said Clintons didn’t respect their black leader, Obama was behind. When blacks in S.C distorted Bill Clinton’s comment about Obama’s record and hated Bill Clinton, Obama was behind. When MSNBC used very dirty language to distort Chelsea’s effort to help her mother, Obama was behind. But he always said he didn’t do it, someone else did it. Obama is a good actor.

Hello Hillary!? We’re aware that speeches don’t create jobs, like that speech your husband gave a few years ago when he sold us NAFTA. He forgot to tell us that the jobs we ‘retrained’ for would pay less then the jobs we had. Now you want to garnish the paychecks we have left!

I don’t want to hear the experience card anymore. So she has been around a while. That just means that she contributed to where we are today. Are you happy with where we are today? So she has pie in the sky health care plans, has she succeeded? Garnish my paycheck? So you won’t control how much my insurance company can charge me, but force me to pay them no matter what? How is this a good plan?

Hillary has to bring Obama down because there is no way that Hillary’s campaign is going to reach any higher ground than where she is sitting now. She has no intention of leading or inspiring Americans. She just wants to win the election. I can’t blame her for that, but I certainly don’t have to vote for her. I think Hillary is going to give it everything she’s got. I just think that everything she’s got is not good enough to beat Obama.

It gives all of us such a bad name…..and now she wants to show the world that she can play in what she perceives to be a man’s world…Hello Hillary…it’s been a woman’s world for years now too….and they haven’t had to stoop to your tired old tactics….go home and let Bill tell you again why he has no respect for you…only for himself and then you can continue to enable him.

…and this is Hilarious’ conciliatory behavior with members of her OWN party! Just imagine how well she’s going to do when she needs to gain support from her fellow Dems in order to get them to write a bill that she supports, and then how easily she’ll be able to reach across the isle to get bipartisan support to get it passed. Yes sir!! We’re in for a very productive 4 years if she gets into the White House… [BTW, that was said with a VERY HEAVY dose of sarcasm!!] If you think THIS is ugly, wait until she meets the Republicans who REALLY love her.

Hillary signed a paper that she wouldn’t campaign in Florida. Then she went ahead and campaigned. So I don’t give much credibility to her signature. If she were in a position of power and were to sign a Treaty, for example, she probably wouldn’t have a qualm about reversing her commitment. That’s not just bad foreign policy, that’s political national suicide.

Billy Billy Billy trust this one thing if you have not listened to anything else….IF Obama had lied, IF the Clintons could have found ANY dirt on him…they would have and would be using it now so don’t expect anyone reading thses lists to think YOU are smarter than the Clinton Machine. OBAMA is clean and has the best interest of this country at heart as opposed to Bill & Hill who gave us NAFTA

Posted by: Deanna G. | February 14, 2008, 1:48 pm 1:48 pm

Hillary Clinton is a shameless woman. She refused to release her tax record, she refused to release her whitehouse record that is locked in their library. Exactly what does this woman want from the Americans? What are you hidding from the public? The Republicans alreday have her tax and record information with them. Hillary should please give up this presidency and save us from major embarrassment.

I don’t understand why people are going nuts about Obama. Seems to me he is all “talk”… Remember the last time we picked the President who was all “tough” talk and he promised the country he will change the Washington? It was 2000 and 2004!! Look at the mess he got us into. We need someone who can lead us out of this mess and I don’t see Obama being that person. I am a Dem but if Obama wins, I will go with John M. At least I know what I’m getting. God help us.

Posted by: JK | February 14, 2008, 1:49 pm 1:49 pm

Obama is NOT a good leader. Many people who voted for him just simplly wanted to see a new face in White House, that’s all. Obama took advantage of some people’s hatred against Clinton team and made it a good show. I have to admit that Obama is smart and lucky, BUT he’s not honest as other people think, and he will never be a good president. Our country will in great danger if so many people continue to get crazy for this empty liar Obama

Posted by: Judy | February 14, 2008, 1:49 pm 1:49 pm

Hey Tommy, if you move to Canada, I hear the health care system (exactly what HRC is trying to adopt) is a nightmare. Hillary encouraged, and benefitted financially from jobs being shipped overseas. You need to research her position on that before you start talking about the change you THINK she will bring to this country. If she claims she’s had 35 year of experience (obvious exxageration) why are we still talking about the same issues and nothing changes? Something for you to think about.

Posted by: nancy | February 14, 2008, 1:50 pm 1:50 pm

Someone like Clinton can’t give up even when she’s losing…look at her and Bill LOL ANYONE else would have left but that poor thing just can’t stand the though of losing…so she sells out her self respect and stays….She will drag the United States into a law suit over the FL and MI votes and will hand the election to the Republicans before she gives up. The Clintons are PRO’S at selling out the American Public.

Posted by: Deanna G. | February 14, 2008, 1:51 pm 1:51 pm

OK, let’s see how Obama handles it. If he can take the best of the Clinton attack machine, he’ll be that much more prepared and ready to fight the Republican attack machine. After all, the Clintons beat the Republicans, so if he can beat the Clintons, he’ll have a good shot at the Republicans. Let’s see how he does.

It’s interesting that people are always talking about how Hillary has ‘stooped to slamming’ but when Obama does it, nothing is wrong with that. There certainly seems to be a double standard. I don’t support any of the current candidates, so it doesn’t matter one way or another to me who wins. But perhaps it should be fair for all involved?

Why do so many of you expect the media to provide you with facts? You have computers. Start doing your own research. Barack Obama was elected, note elected, to the Illinois Legislature three times. He voted 4,000 times with a definite Yes or No. He used their third option of Present because he felt some parts of a bill were unconsitutional, not the entire bill. An Illinois option. Now please provide me with a reliable source/website that I can review Hillary Clinton’s experience as an elected official before she went straight from the White House to being a NY Senator in which State she had never prevbiously lived. A reliable source please to review her prior elected legislative experience. Thank you.

Here’s the deal: I’ll take either Obama or Clinton. The one I want is the most electable. What I fear most is another 4-8 year of a republican presidency.
What will be very upsetting is to see Obama win the democratic nomination and lose horribly in the national elections. Nobody says it, but we’re all thinking it. Are most Americans ready for a Black president? I have to think that there are still far too many Whites who harbor ill feelings toward black Americans, which sucks.
If I’m a republican, I would have to hope that Obama wins, because they know it will be hard for them to win in the nationals.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Obama win the democratic nod, and I don’t him losing to McCain, if that is what the people want, but if he is trounced in the nation elections… someone has to wonder if his winning the primaries was a republican scheme.

We are tired of the Clinton/Bush clintel. It is time for them to move on. For twenty years or so they have had time to move this country in the right direction. So where are we now? They are the ones that had experience. Experience has put the U.S in harms way.

Mr. Obama, be humble and remember an old African proverb. It goes like this: “In a running contest, never confuse between the first runner out (Iowa’s winner) and the first runner to reach the finish line (The Nomination). The two are not always the same person.”

Posted by: Emanuel | February 14, 2008, 2:03 pm 2:03 pm

The Republicans want Obama to win. They have a whole arsenal of information on his background and his closets’ full of secrets. No need to use it now, only if he secures the nomination. Remember that the Republicans are presently in power and have access to all of the “skeletons”. They have the government “machine” at their disposal and they will leave no stone unturned. You Obama-huggers are in for a huge shock should this play out the way you want it to. Be careful what you wish for because we will all pay the price with another 4 years of the Republicans in power.

How has Obama lied? Where has he lied? How is his experience ‘less’ than Hillary’s? People need to get past what can be found on blogs and the internet and THINK.
Then again, that presumes I’m not talking to paid campaign staffers working for a campaign here. I’ve noticed at least a dozen ‘men’ over the past three days who support Hillary. That’s a dozen more than I know in real life. I know NO men who will support her regardless of circumstances–she, like the current President–is a divider, not someone who can unite the nation.

Hey Judy-
If you’re implying that HRC would be a better leader, you might want to pause and consider the following… if she is having trouble running her own campaign with all her FRIENDS around her, how does she plan on running this country with her ENEMIES even closer around her?

Interesting that when Hillary takes on the “Most Sexist Nasty Boys Club” crowned prince on the issues that voters should pay attention to and points out that he is copying her work, women and men jump in with their shrill misogynist attacks in defense of plagiarism. Obama has no plan(s). Empty suit. He came to Hillary and asked for advice on how to do his job, after she campaigned and raised money for him in his senate race. He calls his mentor the “status quo”, copies her plan as his, says he stands up when he is just barely present. He doesn’t vote to cap the credit card companies at 30%. I remember John Edward’s jaw dropping at that confession in a debate. Even John couldn’t believe what a bone head move that was. He chant that he stands up against the special interest, then cuts and runs on a major nuclear energy piece of legislation. I think the junior senator still needs “training wheels”. Latest polls: Hillary leads by 21 points in Ohio and 16 points in PA. Hmmm.

Riddle me this batman, why does the clinton campaign spend more time knocking his style of speech rather than his style of policy? Answer can be found in the California debate where we had 40 minutes of pure policy discussion with no mud flinging. That was just before Super Tuesday and we all know how it went from there.

“Hillary signed a paper that she wouldn’t campaign in Florida. Then she went ahead and campaigned. So I don’t give much credibility to her signature.”—–Hey Clearly Remember, OBAMA is the one who campaigned in Florida. Not Clinton. Not Edwards. All three, however, attended fundraisers in Florida. ALL THREE. To recap, in case I lost you already… OBAMA was the only one to have ads up in Florida. Therefore, HE was the only one to campaign there. You are either grossly ill-informed or you are a liar. So- which is it??

Mary Miles, you said it all. The Clinton’s dirt is out there for everyone to play with all they want. But never underestimate the Republican machine. People are betting on a candidate that only the insiders know his Achille’s heel. They are saving it for one rainy day in November.

Lookup: you have learned quickly from Obama, liar. In the news on Yahoo, I just read that Sen. Hillary lead Sen. Obama over double digital number in TX, OH and PA. I also watched both Sen. Obama and Sen. Hillary speeches, actually Obama copy Hillary’s economic plans and green energy plan. Do not cheat and fool us.

To esv: If you believe the media hype about Hillary, shake it off. The “Most Sexist Nasty Boys Club” aren’t her friends, the media can’t get enough inspiration from the empty high school slogans and Hillary is leading in the latest polls up 21 points in Ohio – 16 points in PA. Her campaign is alive and doing well, despite the media pile on.

Folks wake –up the Clintons have demonstrated they will stoop to anything to win the nomination including lie, play race card, misrepresent facts, use other people to perform under handed tactics for them and it goes on. Bill Clinton continuously lied to the American people as President and should have been impeached for his actions. Ms. Clinton’s only actual experience is in the senate. She has distorted the 35 years and it appears you have bought into her fabrication. Under these circumstances knowing the Clintons true tract record, do you honestly believe she is the best candidate? You Obama haters need to look at the whole picture. If you have been following this process from day one, you would realize Hilary Clinton has adapted MOST every position she now has from Obama. Is her recent pitch what she believes in or a mere pitch for votes. Wake up folks we honestly need change, no Clinton no Bush.

Posted by: Henry | February 14, 2008, 2:11 pm 2:11 pm

I’m so tired of hearing Obama’s promises of change and I’m so tired of people supporting him without knowing anything about him. TALK is TALK!!! There is nothing in this man’s record that show’s me that he is capable of running a country and making tough decisions. In fact, his record shows me quite the opposite. Voting “present” so many times tells me that he is unwilling to take a stand on many issues. It also leads me to believe that he had his eyes on the White House a long time ago. One can always argue that they were “for” or “against” something if there is nothing in their voting record that proves otherwise and that is exactly what he has done as a senator. I’m glad to see that Hillary is finally exposing this man for what he is… he’s smooth talker who has star power but no substance. I’m tired of hearing the words “he inspires me”. Fine, I’m glad to hear that you’re inspired by someone… but how is your inspiration going to keep us safe from terrorists? How is your inspiration going to keep our economy from crumbling? I for one would rather KNOW that there is someone in the Oval Office who is working on my behalf every day to make this country safe and prosperous. Hillary has demonstrated to me that she can and does WALK the TALK. Wake up America!

Posted by: CNL | February 14, 2008, 2:12 pm 2:12 pm

What exactly has Hillary done for this country? Since when does service as a corporate lawyer and First Lady qualify one for president? How did that health care plan go the first time, Hil? Travelgate? FileGate? Fostergate? Yup, tons of experience there for us to review. Talk is cheap Hillary, you prove it every day.

CNL – instead of repeating Hillary Clinton talking points about voting “present”, do some research on Illinois’ political process before jumping to your conclusion of it means he didn’t vote. Voting “present” has a different meaning than the one they want you to believe. Not showing up to vote is the real dodge of an issue. Like Hillary did this last week when the vote regarding the illegal wiretapping hit the floor. She was in the area yet she didn’t show up for one of the most critical issues that the democrats stand for. Doesn’t they make you lovers of the constitution feel good inside?

I do know that he ran a nationwide ad buy that could not exclude Florida, and that Hillary’s big fundraisers came the weekend before FL voting. Could you please direct me to some info about Obama’s alleged FL activities?

FROM THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS:
In Clinton’s six year term on the Senate, she has authored and passed 20 pieces of legislation. two to rename courthouses, two to rename post offices, 2 to congratulate university lacrosse teams on winning championships.
His first year in the U.S. Senate, Obama authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These inculded: **The Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law), **The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law), **The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate, **The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (biggest in history), **The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee), and many more.
As a Republican, I’d be honored to have him serve as our next U.S. President.

its the shortage of DC experience that will make Obama a great president. He is not corrupted and he will do things the way he believes they ought to be done. He is not a stupid man, or else he would not be running for President. Obama will not solve every problem, but will sure as heck make this country a lot better than it is right now.

Hey Amazon Traveler – her FRIENDS I’m refering to are those IN her campaign. The ENEMIES are the republicans who hate her with passion. As for how much she is winning by in PA and OH, she needs to win those states and Texas by at least 50 pts.
As for Obama going to HRC for advise and help…reference that news clipping or article. Don’t talk out of your ear just to make a point.
While you’re at it, you might want to also research her history with Tata Consulations…she and Bill made hundreds of thousands of dollars from jobs being shipped overseas. Why would you want to vote for a person who shamelessly benefitted from american worker’s misfortunes? Now she’s saying that NAFTA should take a ‘time-out.’ Well, of course she’s running for president. Why wasn’t she saying that two years ago?

“Speeches don’t put food on the table. Speeches don’t fill up your tank, or fill your prescription, or do anything about that stack of bills that keeps you up at night.”
Neither does working in the White House on Health Care Non-Reform, or sitting in Congress passing votes in favor of big industries. That’s right, Hillary voted for the same bill that she’s attacking Obama for in her latest interview.
When’s the last time she laid up at night wondering if her mortgage was going to get paid or not. Sure, let’s discuss how Obama has a nice house – but then let’s also look into how Hillary got her vast estate in NY.
Oh, unless we aren’t supposed to ask Hillary where she gets her money from, because that might be “sexist”.
Clinton has never given a damn about anything unless it benefitted her. Now *that* is the truth, and I’ve seen her in action for nearly 20 years now. She’s a two faced liar who has demeaned women and non-whites both by her actions and words. She’s insulted those who voted against her as “activists” and irrelevant, even if those activists voted for her!!
Just when I think she can’t say anything more stupid than before, she opens her mouth.
She doesn’t deserve the presidency. Full stop.

Blind devotion? Well, we have experience with the Clintons! That is hardly blind devotion. They were great for the country and a lot of Democrats know it. On the other hand, Obama’s supporters can’t even speak of any real accomplishment he has made that backs his philosophy. Hillary has always been about the kids. I am a teacher and I know what her cause is. I was a supporter of “It Takes a Village” even though it was attacked. There are a lot of us who know what she means. We know her and we agree with her. Hillary Clinton’s record with her cause is evident from her past works. Hillary is highly intelligent, capable and a born leader. It’s not blind, it’s deep knowledge of her and respect for her. Her site has a wonderful letter from a Canadian rescuer who ran into Hillary on September 12, 2001. It depicts the stoic Hillary we know.

Posted by: irma | February 14, 2008, 2:30 pm 2:30 pm

Even if you forget everything else in the sad chronicle that is the Clinton ‘legacy’, just take a look at the two campaigns run by our candidates. Hillary squandered over $100 million dollars prior to the Super Tuesday contest just to get her even or a little ahead of Obama. That, of course, would include the benefits of 20 years of favors owed the Clintons, name recognition, etc. Since that time, she’s had to LOAN (not give) her campaign $5 million dollars, go out begging for money, change campaign managers, lose other high level campaign folks, turn negative, and have no plan for the rest of the campaign and also lose one of her superdelegates today. On the other hand, you’ve had a steady campaign by Obama, same staff, increasing revenues coming into the bank, endorsements from all states, stations, parties, gender, race, and ethnic background. Hmmmmmmmmm, wonder who I would want running my country…and that’s even without the “vision thing”. Guess Hillary doesn’t even have the “manager thing” down yet either.

Hillary needs to step it up and counter everything Obama says. He seems to be able to say whatever he wants and everybody beleives it’s the truth. Why? I don’t know. He speaks in half truths and lies like everyone else just to get elected. He is no different than anyone else. Someone needs to put out to the American public when he is lying! Hillary just can’t sit back and take it.

Some of you people crack me up. How do you expect Obama to change things NOW? Hello! He’s got to get ELECTED first. What’s wrong with universal health care? I already pay $9000 a year in insurance and still have to pay copays. I’d rather that go to one place and everybody benefits. Maybe we can take some of that money we are sending to foreign nations who squander it and pay to keep AMERICANS healthy. You want a better America? Educate and take care of our own first.

The Clintons have always enjoyed playing victim, whilst being far nastier and far more aggressive than anyway else on the field. I have not seen anything in the way of positive comments from the Clinton campaign for a while now, the only way they seem to know how to campaign is to hit and hit hard. Are they going to be able to hit at McCain in the same way? Do you really want four years of Hillary acting as victim in the White House?

Posted by: markymark | February 14, 2008, 2:34 pm 2:34 pm

. Hillary has past experience and efforts that support her philosophy. Obama has not done ANYTHING in his past for people, I mean there is NOTHING he has done that supports his philosophy, one that keeps sounding like Hillary’s. Obama started off with Bill Clintons ‘92 campaign of Hope. Took the United Farm Workers mantra of “Si Se Puede,” even though that union supports Hillary. Is pushing off his deficient health care plan as Universal. Doesn’t want to debate, because as we all know….he is no good at it. Fails to answer real questions on the Rezko and Exelon incidents. Didn’t seem to know it was breaking the rules to run ads in Florida, when they were’nt suppose to. Had supporters run a vote against Hillary campaign in Michigan, where she still won especially after voters found Kucinich was also on the ballot, yet no mention of this in the media. His supporters were going crazy on radio and tv in California for Michigan to vote against Clinton. National radio ran shows supporting this effort. He mis quotes and mis represents his opponents. Then, when he lost the teleprompter connection at his Virginia speech, he had to ad lib while flipping through his notes, which came off as an angry liberal and not the uniter in his speeches. To which we ask, “Will the real Obama please step aside and perhaps let your speech writer run for office since they are responsible for your following, or rather those who are ‘Coming to Obama’.” Sure, she can take him, he Is a superficial mimic.

That’s right…but it gets worse, while we were losing those american jobs, Hillary and Bill were making hundreds and thousands of dollars. See, they have stock with the companies that ship our jobs overseas…when those companies do well, the Clintons do very well…might just be where she got the $5 million to invest in her campaign. Maybe that’s why she doesn’t release her tax records.

Remember when Bill Clintion ran for President? A few years before he ran very few people knew who he was. Suddenly, He was in the White House. The question has always been, where did he get all his financial support? We know that the President is selected, not elected. The ‘Chosen One’ is now in position and the people in power are in control. The people in power will nover give up their control over us willingly. These people in power are not names we would recognize. They will use any method available to acheive their goals. So, we must decide which candidate they have placed in the position to be selected our next President. And, do we want to continue to give them control over us? If you ask how do they select our President, it by the means of controlling the mainstream media. You only see and hear the information they want you to receive. They can make a candidate almost disappear from the political scene just by keeping them from getting coverage over the mainstream media. If that does not work , they will pour millions of dollars to back their ‘Chosen One’. Thjey think we vote for the one they tell us to vote for, not the one we choose. Listen to what the candidates are telling us they will to for us. That is not what a Republic is all about. They are not in office to supply our needs. They more they make us dependent on the government for our needs, the more control they have over us. We need more limited government, not a government out of control. Do your research on each of the five candidates still in the race. Then you decide.

He is not going to change anything except how much more in taxes your going to pay for his programs of bull. I’m sick and tired of the media suckin up to him like he’s something special. William T Sherman: Are you kidding? Hillary has managed to review healthcare for over a decade without getting a damn thing done. She has been the wife of a president. That is not experience. She claims 35 years experience. Even if you count her time as first lady in the WH and Arkansas, which is tenuous at best, it only adds up to 27years. Obama has held elected office for longer than her. She only has elected office because she was married to a president, she could not get elected on her own merits, as she does not have any.

Obama is getting free pass from mainstream media at the expense of Hillary now and McCain later on. If any other candidate gives a stump speech with no substance, the pundits will be all over him/her. Obama’s short senate record does not exactly speak to change that he keeps on harping about. It’s about time she remark on Obama. People need to realize she has action and Obama just has words. People wake up…we all need healthcare coverage because if we don’t all have it we end up paying for the uninsured. People do you really think the uninsured go to hospitals and pay their bill. Who do you think pays it. Hillary has a plan. Also, does anyone question why Obama did not support the president when our agencies ie CIA said their were weopons of mass destruction? Is he a profit or fortune teller? Why did he vote no when our nation was at crises? Is he going to not rely on our Inteligence in future decisions. Our nation is at risk with this guy people…wake up and vote for someone who cares and has represented and helped people their entire life like Hillary.

The comments made by Obama supporters are simply insults. No substance throughout the campaign. It’s like an empty tamale. All sweet cornmeal and NO BEEF. Hillary’s experience in actual policy, physically working with abused children, working to improve education backs her philosophy. I need a little more from a candidate than, mimics of past campaigns, flowery speeches and abusive supporters calling us names unless we “Come to Obama”.

Hillary claims to have spent her entire life helping people. Well, yes. But mostly she’s been helping herself to what she thinks she’s entitled to. She’s the first and main recipient of her own helping. Why her? Well, because, she’s, uh, Hillary.

It is interesting to see how many anti-Hillary comments on this board contain the word “woman” used in a negative way (as in “that woman”, “Hillary is a shameless woman”, etc.).
I guess that, in America nowadays, it is politically unacceptable to be overtly racist, but being explicitly sexist is still OK ! Obama himself has made derogatory sexist remarks throughout his campaign (Hillary’s “having tea” with Bhutto in Pakistan, Obama’s promising “not to hurt Hillary’s feelings”, etc.) and apparently got away with it !
Hillary, a female candidate, is also the only candidate who gets blamed for or judged on the actions/merits of her spouse, showing the implicit sexist assumption that, even though she is the candidate, being a woman, it is actually her husband who is in control !

I was just wondering why you claim you voted present 130 times rather than yes or no on crucial legislation, yet you claim it was because in several instances, PLANNED PARENT HOOD TOLD YOU TOO. Wow, are you sure you will be able to handle decisions? Will you need Hillary to give you the right answers?

It doesn’t count when you say “oops, if I had known then what I know now…” Tell that to the families of all those children, fathers, mothers, friends who died in this war. And let’s not forget…Chaffee also saw the info that Hillary had and he still voted NO…the only one in Congress to have done so…he lost re-election because of it. So don’t sit on that excuse anymore.

justme: Give up. I have been trying to persuade readers to pull up the Illinois Legislative site to learn that Barack Obama was a three-times elected official by the people, and to understand their three-vote system. It is like talking to the wind. And, I am still waiting, still, for somebody to give me a reliable website that I can review Hillary Clinton’s legislative and political experience as an elected official prior to going straight from the White House to the US Senate. Is that too much to ask so I can read for myself about the prior experience on Hillary Clinton’s legislation that was actually passed? Thank you.

RO, for you….He is empty rhetoric. He has nothing in his past works or lack of works that support his philosophy, therefore he is continuously copying someone or something else.Obama has not done ANYTHING in his past for people, I mean there is NOTHING he has done that supports his philosophy, one that keeps sounding like Hillary’s. To which we ask, “Will the real Obama please step aside and perhaps let your speech writer run for office since they are responsible for your following, or rather those who are ‘Coming to Obama’.” Sure, she can take him, he Is a superficial mimic.

don’t give Hillary all that credit. And while you’re at it, you might want to include in her qualifications that:
1.While Americans were losing their jobs because of outsourcing (a practice that the Clintons created) the Clintons were making money off of it…hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Pretty hypocritical of her to say she’s worried about the unemployment level and poverty level…well, she helped create it and there is NO defending that.

Maybe we keep getting confused if Hillary Clinton really *IS* running the show, when she keeps mentioning things like “Well, my husband lost caucuses too”.
Had Hillary gone out and won any elected office WITHOUT the help of the Bill Clinton Collective (such as Sen. D’amato), then perhaps it would be easier to see her as her own person. When things got bad in the early primaries, she brought her husband out of mothballs to slam Obama as a “fairy tale”. She then started talking about how she was a “co-president” in the administration of Clinton I , and that you’d get “two for the price of one” this time as well.
She isn’t doing ANYTHING on her own, unless it’s *easy*. That’s why she’s campaigning alone in Texas, as she thinks this is a cakewalk to win.
She isn’t anything close to being a feminist. Rice, Pelosi, Sebelius – THEY are feminists.

They have alot of history together, a child , memories and if Bill can’t keep it in his pants that is for her to decide. I give this woman in immense amount of credit. She battles and battles for what I believe she truly belives in. I am not an Obama supporter but it won’t do any good to beat him up here. I just simply won’t vote for him if he is the nominee. I will have to go to McCains camp if that is the case. Stop making judgements on peoples personal choices. Why should she show her tax returns. That is her own private matter. They have become very wealthy through books, interviews, consulting and yes buisness deals. So let’s move on. If you don’t support her – don’t beat up on her – just state and support your candidate. Isn’t it funny how when confronted with the truth, Obama supporters roll out all sorts of trash!
Fact is folks, Obama already brought change, the sort of change that has been going on in Illinois politics for years, smoke, mirrors and deception!
Fact is Obama has reached his place in politics today on the heels of two things, dirty money: which he fragrently used money donated by people for a Presidential campaign to show the appearance of a do gooder in donating the dirty money to charity, well sorry, that still leaves an even dirtier person, not a saint! And stealing other peoples ideas: proves how empty this person is!
One question that is becoming clear is: if Obama becomes President, will Clinton be there to enact all her policies and programs which Obama has taken from her?

Posted by: Clear Choice | February 14, 2008, 3:03 pm 3:03 pm

Keith-
It was not put in Obama’s hands to decide…it was put in the hands of the congress…and HRC was there! It was not about luck, it was about sound judgement. And HRC can’t run on the idea that she would be ready on day one or that she has the experience…when it mattered the most to exercise those qualities…she failed.
While I have your attention, what do you make on the issue of Hillary supporting and lobbying for outsourcing…and making hundreds of thousands of dollars from that practice while americans lose their jobs. Pretty immoral for our next president to benefit financially from Americans losing their jobs, wouldn’t you say?

Posted by: nancy | February 14, 2008, 3:04 pm 3:04 pm

Why would Obama not vote to support the president in sanctions against Iraq given the same inteligence that Clinton had? People look at the content of Obama…When it comes down to it would you really sleep well at night knowing he was president. Do you really want someone who doesn’t listen to our agencies? This is too big of a decision people, our nation is at stake this election.

Here is something I found in another article that is kinda interest:
Bush seems more comfortable with Sen. Hillary Clinton as a successor than Sen. Barack Obama, judging by his comments in the Fox News Interview. He told Wallace that he had predicted a Clinton victory months ago “because I knew that she understands the klieg lights and understands the pressures.” He also defended Bill Clinton, saying that he understands why the former president “wants to campaign hard for his wife.” He seems confident that Clinton won’t abruptly withdraw from Iraq, regardless of her campaign rhetoric.
Kinda scary…..

Obama has a mandate for children on his health plan- what’s he going to shake down a 2 year old’s piggy bank to get that premium? if you have children there will be a mandate so Obama clearly doesn’t have a problem with mandates in his own health care plan and if you don’t pay the premium there’s no potential for garnishment in his plan then? I would assume it would be similar to what Clinton has stated in that there would be a focus on making premiums affordable and capping the amount one can charge for a premium

Obama has not played the race card — but it sure has been played for him by others. And as far as the gender card — that is played out everyday by the media against Senator Clinton. Obama does not have one single plan of his own that he has not stolen from someone, whether it be economic, creating green jobs, healthcare (his plan leaves a bunch of folks out), the mortgage crisis which he has completely ignored and which Senator Clinton has been talking about for more than a year as the crisis was looming — an no one bothered to listen to her. All Obama does is give inspiring speeches of hope and fluff that are, underneath the rhetoric, not of any substance whatsoever. Yeah, he’s the one we should put in the White House so he can make it up as he goes along. No wonder Canadians are flooding the web with messages of support for McCain and Clinton. Even our neighbors to the north are frightened of an Obama Presidency. Be very careful what you wish for!

Even with her trying to hide any documents that might reveal her decision making process until after the general election. Funny timing there huh? Also, still waiting on a reason why she didn’t show up to vote this week on the illegal wiretaps even though she was in the neighborhood. Posted by: ORK | February 14, 2008, 3:18 pm 3:18 pm

I’m an independent and I support Obama (and for the first time in my life I will put a sign on my front lawn supporting him if he is the nominee) but I will NOT vote for Hillary if she is the nominee even if Barack is the VP which I think would be a big mistake on his part (the vindictive Clintons will suck the life out of him). The Clintons are the most disingenuous and duplicitous individuals there are in political circles today. They are all that is wrong with Washington politics and if Hillary (I’ve accomplished nothing but talk in her career) is elected will not change anything in Washington. Her attack dog of a husband Bill Clinton will lie right to your face if it serves his purpose, just as he did when he was the President. They will do or say anything to get back to the White House. Its not about concern for Americas welfare its there own ego driven need for power. Hillary is not about change… she never even mention herself as a change agent until she saw that Mr. Obama’s message had resonance with the American psyche. Unfortunately I fear Hillary will get the nomination, and if that is the case I will never vote for a democrat for President ever again. I’m very disturbed at the lack of insight by people who support Hillary. She has never accomplished anything in her political career… yet people continue to think she is experienced. What is this great experience you all think she has? What great piece of legislation has she championed and has been passed into law that is helping you today. We would have had some type of national health care today, if Hillary would have been willing to compromise back in the early 90s. During her time in the White House she did not even have National Security clearance …, yep that’s real experience she’s had during her years in White House. The Clintons championed NAFTA and promoted China… These two moves have diminished the US as an economic power and have caused the loss of millions of good paying jobs to foreign companies. She was completely in support of the Bush and his invasion of Iraq , now she tries to change history. The reason she supported the war was a purely political move for her future plans to run for the White House, she hoped to use it to stave off any attacks by the Republicans that she was not strong in defense issues. Listen to the double talk she is using to cover up her purely political motivated vote to go to war .. does she really believe we are that stupid (I guess so). Listen to her dance around the answer, and look at what she said in the debate in California, this is the Commander and Chief you want sitting behind the desk… Quote from the debate:
“Knowing that he was a megalomanic, knowing he would not want to compete for attention with Osama bin Laden, there were legitimate concerns about what he might do. So I think I made a reasoned judgment.”
Yeah where have I heard that before (Bush and Cheney) NO Thanks!!
She did not care for the soldiers being sent off to a needless war that did not address actual national security priorities. … Hillary’s views and opinions are blown by the wind… done for political expediency not out of belief. I’ve talked with a number of Obama supports who also will not support Hillary if she is the nominee. It will be another sad day in America, when the Clintons return to the White House.

When Obama came on the scene with no experience, I wondered who was behind him. Then out of the blue, Ted Kennedy endorsed him, and it was obvious Ted Kennedy was pulling the strings from day 1. Shame on Caroline for saying she turned to Obama after hearing her children talk about him. She had to be present at Ted’s home for more than one of Obama’s many visits during the planning process. What bothers me is the secretiveness of it. Why couldn’t they make it known over a year ago? Haven’t we learned anything from the secrecy surrounding the Bush White House?

HRC tells it like it is. You Obama cultist haven see nothing yet. By the way how about someone telling the Goverment to put on a self distruct system on satallites, so we don’t have to spend so much money shooting them down. The satallite comeing down was up in Dec 2006. How about some cabeza.

I haven’t really made up my mind yet, but I have some serious reservations about Hillary. One is that she seems to attack when things don’t go her way, and I’m getting the sense that I’m right because after reading these posts, I notice thaqt many of them are in the same tone as the article. Is Hillary writing them??

Shawn-
The vote was for MILITARY ACTIONS, not sanctions. Believe me, I understand the anger and pain that all of us felt after 9/11. But one thing I learned is that you can never make decisions in that state of mind that are going to affect millions of more people. You have to step back and ask all the hard questions and consider hard what you’re about to vote on. If Chaffee was willing to do that…why couldn’t someone who claims is experienced enough and ready enough do the same?

The last people-poll I checked, no one remembers having more “food on the table” during Bill’s presidency and the average low-income New York City family is squeezed in an apt. meant for 1 person, wishing for “more food on the table!” Hello Hilliar, where’s the beef? The only thing any of us can really remember is Monica on “Bill’s office table” & Hillary as co-conspirator, co-concealor & liar, using the same “faked emotions” she uses now to again FAKE the public on alleged truths…come on, whose that stupid! We all know what she really has EXPERIENCE in, and it has nothing to do with the public good…

“How are you holding up?” HRC response: sniffle, sniffle, tear drop. If this is how she reacts to campaign pressure, imagine her under presidential pressure. This is not a swipe at her being a woman. It just demonstrates a lack of strong leadership. As they say, there is no crying in baseball. Can you imagine what would happen if the president of the great USA cried during a press briefing? How about in front of the U.N.? Emotional choices tend to be bad choices. I want someone with a clear head to lead my country, not someone who breaks down just because they were asked how they are doing.

Your not a true latino , if you were you’d look to your elders and know they know the truth of history. Look which latinos have supported who. True latinos take pride in our elders we don’t spit in their faces. I was at the rally yesterday in San Antonio Stood out in line with the other 5 thousand plus supporters, who were mostly latino. Your trying to tell them they are all stupid and duped???? I think it is you who are misled.

Is anyone else seeing a pattern here of putting disingenuous comments about Obama! Not only that they being cut and pasted amoungst multiple articles, but also personalized with names of other respondents within the page! Eg. The law suite thing, or Obama is a muslim, and rather than saying it directly, someone is putting it as a question! It’s like using reverse pyscology to put one’s knowhow in question! Swiftboating but inside out I guess! Carefull people!

Oprah is going to be smiling at you from the steps of the White House. Ever wonder why she invested money in project in Africa when there is poverty on her own doorstep in Illinois. Does this tell you how little influence Obama is going to have after she gets her hooks into him and our national policy. She is the puppet-master. He is the puppet.

Hillary was asked why she didn’t disclosed her income tax return in a television interview.
Did Hillary answer the question? NO! All Hillary did was to place attention on Barack Obama with a half truth.
Well Benjamin Franklin must of had Hillary in mind when he said: “A Half Truth Is A Big Lie.”

So yesterday, John McCain attacked Barack Obama for lacking specifics. Also yesterday, McCain’s economic advisor, Kevin “Dow 36,000″ Hassett attacked Obama for allegedly pilfering Clinton’s economic stimulus program. (The criticism, and Obama’s denial of it, can be found here.)
I noted yesterday that it’s odd McCain would be attacking Obama for lacking specifics, when McCain is far vaguer and more ill-informed than Obama. It’s even odder that McCain’s campaign is jumping into the question of which Democrat came out with which stimulus plan first. I expected MCain to go after Obama, I just thought it would be on grounds of being a liberal liberal liberal peacenik.
Could the answer be that… McCain’s goal is not to hurt Obama in the general election but to hurt him in the primary? Every poll now shows Obama performing better than Clinton against McCain. On average, he does five and a half points better than her, which is a very significant margin.
So it’s quite likely that the reason that McCain is amplifying Clinton’s attacks on McCain, rather than make attacks that would fit his general election audience, is that they’re targetted to the primary. If McCain attacks Obama for wanting to withdraw from Iraq, that helps Obama in the primary. If he attacks him for lacking domestic policy proposals, it helps Clinton. I suspect McCain is trying to pick his opponent here, the way Richard Nixon tried to sink Ed Muskie’s primary campaign in 1972, but without the illegality. (I’m not suggesting there’s anything immoral about the tactic — if I were McCain I’d do the same thing.)

Slick Hilly would sell her soul to the devil to become President of the United States. One could say she already has by marrying Bill ”I did not have sexual relations with that woman! (or all those other women)” Clinton. Bill and Hillary’s so-called union is a perverse corporate partnership redefining ”the end justifies the means”. Do we really want to define our nation through Hillary Clinton? Vote Obama or McCain. Either one is a move toward the middle and away from certain special interest extremes.

Socialized medicine does not work with for-profit health insurers. Her plan will garnish your paycheck while doing nothing to stop the money grabbing taking place in our health insurance industry. Force you to pay but not control how much they can charge you? This is not a solution to the problem. This throws fuel on the fire.

Kate you are so misinformed,
I hope your not one of those people who thinking it is cool to vote for OBama cuz he has a video, and the OBama girl. that is not what this election is about! Which raises another issue. on the debate in CA, OBama said,” I have two girls of my own I care deeply about what they watch on TV.” OH yeah Obama, why did you have a pole dancer showing her rear on the Superbowl commercial. You guys can believe this two faced project. I don’t, he’s all show , no tell. Instead of just arguing with people and me about it , read , read, and when your done , research deeper. read his book . Obama can’t even remember the people he wrote about. (THIS IS A FACT PEOPLE LOOK IT UP< USE GOOGLE)(I refuse to vote for him , ill go republican, the stuff on this guy is BAD! The only thing I can figure is that the republicans who have control over clear channel are getting him nominated.)I mean come on you really want someone who can't remember who he wrote about to be your pres??? How bout this and look this up too. Obama claims he was the product of his parents marching on the selma bridge. well that took place 4 years after he was born???? Do you want a president who forgot when he was born?? or did he make that up , it's one or the other, ask him , he said it . Google it!!! research people please.
While your at it , look up how the republicans run two campains, one for the republicans and one for who they want to run against. I know they will eat him alive, you watch as soon as Obama gets the nom, and it looks like he's getting it, all the trash will flow on the front pages of news papers and websites across the nation. all his endorsers will look like fools for not see the hidden republican treasures, and will have another republican inthe white house.
A few other items to look up
*Nuclear and obama<— opps did i miss something
*Obama and his kenyan cousin <— genocide?
*Obama attends a racist church<– Oh no , he never played the race card.
*Obama Likes single payer insurance? <—- Oh no he didn't
*Obama lies about guns<— Is he for or against it , we will never know???
*Obama and Resko<——How did he get his house again?
*Obama Was A Constitutional Law Professor<– no you weren't you are just registered as a speaker.
*Obama's record on choice is less than 50%. He pretends to be pro-choice while voting for anti-choice justices who have vowed to end choice. Obama even voted for cloture on Priscilla Owen, a justice Alberto Gonzales felt was too far to the right
*Obama's pretense at being anti-war is a fraud on the American people. His actions are fully pro-war. He has voted anti-choice and to keep the USA-PATRIOT Act. A win for Obama will be a win for the neo-con agenda. An Obama nomination is a guaranteed loss for the American people who would have no major candidates to support in 2008.
What do you really know about Obama, seems to me , not much!

Hillary did not show up to vote against the immunity provision to the telecom companies in the illegal wiretapping this week. She was in the area and not showed up! What’s her excuse this time?
Crystal clear is that she did not want to go against the telecom companies, one of her strong backers of the campaign and one of the 5 most powerful lobbying forces in Washington.
__Only 31 Democratic Senators (not all Dem. Sen.s) voted against the provision. Yes! Sen. Obama was one of them who voted against the provision! This is a telling of true leadership, of caring for the civil rights we are all entitled to.

Well, I hate to point out, it’s teachers like Irma who have no judgement of right or wrong, good or bad, that bogged down our country’s education system. The Obama campaign sounds a lot like the George W. Bush campaign: try to avoid the issues; deny any responsibility for the dirty tricks played against your opponent and instill fear in the voters against your opponent. I wouldn’t be surprised if Karl Rove is secretly helping Obama. On another note, Obama sounds a lot like Reagan as far as catering to the rich and giving lip service to the poor. The 80′s were all about acumulating wealth at the expense of everyone else. Obama, with his courtship with Oprah and the so-called intellectual elite is mimicking the whole Reagan mystique. None of it is about actually reaching out to the disenfranchized. All the voters who covet most their gadgets and whatever else they can get in the way of material wealth seem to favor him. Most of his endorsements appear to be from those who hope to gain from his presidency rather than a sincere belief in his potential policies. As a black man old enough to have experienced the Civil Rights Era, I too have dreamed of a black president. The difference between me and a lot of the Obama supporters is that they seem to feel that as long as he’s black it doesn’t really matter what he stands for. I don’t. I want a black president, just the right one. Jesse Jackson was also magnetic and I voted for him in the primaries but he was too black for some people. That’s a shame because I also know what an oreo is and that is not who I want as a black president. I want a man or woman who is not afraid to be black, who is proud to be black and who will not encourage me to “forget” about being black. Until white america can deal with black pride then Obama is fooling himself and selling out to his people.

Anyway, 100% I am sure all q’s you have put have been beyond satisfactortly answere here and elsewhere.. now don’t say this is hogwash, just google or something or try huffpost or something… secondly, just because Hillary had a high profile carrier (no thanks to her self, but rather largely to Bill) it doesn’t mean Obama was counting the stars in his public service years! I am sure the ratio to Obama’s bill’s to Hillay’s like 20 to 1! And when it comes to even more substantial bills the ratio would be like 50 to 1 in favor of Obama! This is again no hogwash, just google for Obama’s legislative history! And while you are at it just count the propotion of bills that hillary put out to rename buildings, roads etc! you will shock your self, and perhaps to the realms of reality! cheers!

For those people that Barack Obama lacks substance and specifics, you are just echoing what the mass media tells you. Go to his website, read his policy proposals, read The Audacity of Hope. If you still aren’t convinced he has laid out substantive and specific policy on many different issues then I feel sorry for you. At least Obama has stuck with the same position and message of change while Hillary Clinton desperate to win is trying out every angle and position she can if it will get her votes.

Universal Care is NOT enough!
Back in the Clinton Administration, although Hillary’s health plan didn’t succeed, drug companies pledged not to increase drug prices above inflation. It worked for a few years, but then it was like the old days. It is time we put a lid on drug prices spikes. The rest of the world manages the price of drugs by allowing or not their licensing. Why not the FDA?
To correct the health care problems Hillary or Obama has to address the pricing of the drugs and the structure of the health system. A major competitive disadvantage in the US happens when we subsidize the world health. Disposable income for American worker drops when we have to pay for higher medical expenses, either directly (co-pays) or indirectly (company plans – see automobile industry unions). Right now, the total cost of an American worker is much more expensive than a foreigner one. I would like to hear either candidate to come clean on this one.

Anyone who simply goes to a candidates website and reads only the issues there and doesn’t do any fact checking for themselves are simply dillusional! Those websites are self-bias, compare, research, and figure out for yourself!
Only change ever in Washington is th moderate flip flop Congress/Senators! Hard core Party Congress/Sentaors will ever change!
Proven under pressure of simple debates, Obama falls apart every time! These are serious days ahead, want a President who will toot an old useless stump speech to an anti-war demonstration when the going gets tough and real decissions need to be made?
Choice is likeable: hands down Obama!
Choice is get the job done: hands down Clinton!
Come Jan 20th/09 a serious, very serious situation will face the Government, magnify todays problems by a minimum of 125% worse off!
McCain will bring 4 more years of Bush!
Obama will bring loads of talk and nothing done, proven by his record of 4 yrs in the US Senate and writing only 2 Bills that have passed into law, while defending himself against core Republican smear tactics!
Clinton will bring change in direction both at home and abroad while core Republicans do their ususal smear tactics!
In the end, the choice is to either get things done in Washington or to have 4 yrs of the same or have 4 yrs of complete termoil with nothing done at the hands of a person who has proven nothing but giving good speeches!

LOL! Hillary attacks Obama on the same bill she coauthored and bragged about!
Pretty typical for her.
35 years experience…
Wal-Mart Board Member – no universal employee healthcare.
Arkansas First Lady – No statewide universal healthcare.
First Lady backed by power of Bill’s Presidency – No universal healthcare.
New York Senator – No statewide universal healthcare.
35 years of failure could be considered experience I guess, but it does not make a compelling argument for another shot on the off chance she will finally get it right.

omentum,
If your so righteous in what Obama has done for his district, look up his district. Yes he has passed a lot of Bills, but has done very little for his own district. Why is this? It’s completely fine I’m just trying to see why people like Obama convince me to look his way. I have been trying to understand what policy he comes up with himself that is good. all I have found is someone who takes other peoples stuff and claims it for his own. For example he compares himself to JFK and MLK , but they never compared themselves to anyone , they were the bar, then knew they didn’t do it for prestige. When I see Obama I see someone who wnats the lime light. Someone who is more intersted in the idea of the presendency then the job. With Hillary I see someone who wants the job.

this right here shows me how thoughtless you really are:
“Wal-Mart Board Member – no universal employee healthcare”
Funny thing is you people don’t realize that Wal-Mart was a great company back when Sam was running it. Then his kid took it over and made it what it is today. If you want to know how the company use to be look at the company’s motto. Very differnet when Clinton was there, which was when Sam was ALIVE. Also you go and tell your company to change something , and come back and let us know how you did. Next your going to say taht she went to so and so High school , and there was no universal health care there too. Please get real people , stop spinning wheels on really thoughtless ideas.

Oh ya and bill clintons own political strategist just endorced him. If superdelegates decide to make hillary the nominee, it will be to lose trust in american democracy ( which is kind of an oxymoron to begin with) but if these party bosses decide to go against the majority of people in the democratic party it would be to lose the faith of the american people in a system which is already on the rocks.

Everyone appears to be asking for “concretes”. Here is mine. Hilary let that chump off when he said he wasn’t having sex with “that girl”. She should have dumped him then, and I think she can’t run the country. (By the way, she never cried about that, but sure cries a lot now).

What’s in Hillary’s TAX RETURNS that she dosn’t want us to know about unless she is the nominee.
It’s a little late to find out there is stuff that could cost the Democrates the election after she is the nominee.
Is this as example of the open style of Goverment, sounds like same old style Washington coverups.
Time for her to be open and honest.

Well you got me there… I must admit Hillary has provided a lot for her constituents. I hear she is one of the top earmarkers in the senate (half a billion bucks…. woo hoo gooo hillary. Bravo.. take my tax dollars to New York. On the state level you have virtually nothing to work with. And by the way talk about a 35 year fairy tale. When you are the first lady of a state and of a country… who is going to dismiss your plans/service. Her name did not appear on a ballot until new york. FOR US SENATOR. Wow talk about stepping to the front of the line. In front of hundreds of state reps and senators who have worked for decades for the chance to got to Washington. And oh by the way she was a carpet bagger. Wow now that’s a fairy tale .. Now comes the part when her and Bill goes away and live happily ever after. THE END.

Uh, she’s got solutions?
Like last time she brought us universal coverage?
Like when she stood up with Bush and voted for the idiotic war in Iraq?
Like when she whipped the entire Republican party into a frenzy with her arrogant self righteousness?
THOSE SOLUTIONS? NO THANKS, HILL.

eleven22, he did not gutt the bill, and prime change made after the orginal bill was to give the industry and the standards body (working with the industry) two years to set up channels and mechanisms to report leakages below the standards set for hazadous leakages! Further, if you check the bill, it mandated that any leakages should be reported within 24 hours, as opposed to an unspecified timeline! I am sure you can thank Obama if you were notified earlier than later in case of a leakage, god forbid though!
And to all those like eleven22, do some research and check what Obama has done or not! Don’t just parrot out the self-serving talking points of Hillary!

Poor Hillary no matter which mask she trys it doesn’t fit == how do you fight optimism and HOPE when Americans are just sick and tired of the darkness and fear mongering, plus the drama of the Clinton’s and Bush’s.
The dislike of Hillary is not gender based it’s CLINTON based — and if we wound up with Hillary in office it would be as bad as Bush and no other woman for many generations would be able to try for it again.
Obama offers the change from the same ole, same ole that people are attracted to — the difference between banging our heads against the wall or risk trying something new — that in great numbers cannot be fought — and those speeches contain solutions — Hillary just isn’t listening.

Just listen to Hill-lair-y speeches, does she really sound sincere? She is too dry. She cried just before New Hampshire primary, you know what people did not see her in person while she attempted to cry, but the people who were in the room with her actually recognized as a political drama. The lady who asked that question did not even vote for her. She had said Clinton is doing orchestrated drama.

Just to add to my last point, the reason for giving two years to the nuclear industry to set up channels and mechanisms to report was because if there were no proper channels it could easily lead to public hysterial and equally economic losses to the community effected!
So that shows to me judgement rather than 35 years of fluffy experience! And no, I am not being sexist!

Hillary isn’t the real deal. The people in TX see right through her empty promises. I’m not gonna vote for her because she is loosing and wants me to feel sorry for her. That dog won’t hunt.
The only way she could do it is winning most of the rest of the contests by 25 to 30 points, and there is not a single contest on the calendar left where any polls project her to win by those margins.
Now members of CNN’s political team are saying that she must steal some of John Edwards speaches to get enough voters. She already sounding more and more like Obama. Complaining that she is a victim because, she doesn’t do well in caucuses. Complaing that she can’t get the crowd all wooped up like the Sentator from IL. It’s not looking good for the home team.

I am an ardous republican without a leader to root for this time around.. I would never break my party lines, but I must say, Hillary is so negative when she is push against the wall, It makes me sad.. and I does because I respect her intellect and her intentions.. I honestly wanted her to do well, but this is not going to help her… It is a shame, because she might easyly be the smartest candidate left in the race… I am trouble by her anger towards a decent black man who just so happens to ignite hope and inspire a lot of young voter into her party.. Face the man with the same integrity you always face your own husband’s infidelities… Senator Clinton, you are better than that.. I am republican and I know you deep inside YOU ARE.. clean it up…

Enough of the record arguments; neither Clinton or Obama has much to go on. However, Hillary is divisive, arrogant and cynical. She represents so much of what is wrong in the political process today in that there must be a right way and a wrong way or a Left way and a Right way, or you are with me or against me. She seeks not the mutually beneficial middle ground but only to assuage her selfish interests and motivations. Meanwhile, 300 million people are held captive by petty partisan goings on up on the Hill in Washington and Hillary as president is just more of the same . If Obama says he wants change, then I will give change a try (I have been a fiscal conservative Republican all my life until now). Enough of the Washington Consensus or Corporatocracy or whatever you want to call it for the last 63 years. Obama can be no worse than what we have endured for the last four terms. Shake it up a little. The rest of the world is watching and wondering if the US will make needed course corrections in its international diplomacy or if it will be more of the “do as we say or else” mantra.

Isn’t it obvious that if it were any other candidate who had a history of dealing with the likes of Rezko, the media would be attacking left and right to sink the campaign. But because no one wants to be accused of being a racist, no one even touches the subject. From where I stand, Obama is no different than a Washington insider who enjoys the perks of being a policy maker. He’s just not called on it because of racial bullying.

Even I would then might be force to reenter the process and vote for McCain as much as that pains me… But it would be more a vote against her dirty tactis.. than a vote for a true conservative with I am.

Obama told people he stood up to the nuclear industry and passed a bill against them. But he actually let the nuclear industry water down his bill – the bill never actually passed. On top of that, the same company that watered down that bill lobbied for Dick Cheney’s energy bill. And my opponent voted for the energy bill, with its billions of dollars of breaks for the oil industry. I voted against it.”

I am antinuke down to the last bone in my body and have watched almost every piece of legislation relating to the nuke mongers for the last 20 years.

I will not vote for someone with Hussein

let him do all he wants. He is not criticized for many mistakes due to the
fact that he has not been around long

nothing do not make errors. We still
remember all the promises Bush made to

Kene , I wasn’t impling that, I was implying that the people are all in one area or building. I know the Ron Paul people do it , so why not the Obama team. The bigger problem then all this arguing which has no construction to it at all , is taht the Dem party is split. If Barak wins , Hillary supporters will either not vote or vote Republican. If Hillary wins ditto. It really is a sad state of affairs for the Dems.

That’s because you are not listening. Just like your candidate. She is not listening to America. She drag out this tired health care plan that she has been trying to pass for the past 35 years – WE DONT WANT IT…. And then she bash obama – WE WANT CHANGE. She also doesnt listen when America was telling her this war was WRONG. She doenst listen to America ask her to admit she made a mistake – be human hillary (we all make mistakes) We’ve had a stubborn president for the last seven years. Yeah how has that worked out for us.

Posted by: omentum | February 14, 2008, 5:02 pm 5:02 pm

Just a question. I’m confused about the democratic race. Why does it look like people are choosing Obama over Clinton? What does Obama have that Clinton doesn’t have, and I don’t mean the way he looks or talks, I mean in substance. Why do young people think he represents them? He is in his late 40,s. Most people his age have grown children, and are thought of as middle aged. I guess I’m just looking for someone to give me an intelligent reason for all this hype.
His wife told Larry King thier children go to a private school in Chicago. If he’s just regular folk as he would have you think he is why doesn’t his children go to school with the inner school children in Chicago? Are they to good for regular black folks? He sure wants to be considered common in order to get thier vote. The truth be told he probably wouldn’t speak to these people if he didn’t stand to gain something politically. The fact that his children go to private school did it for me. How can he be a common man and live a priveledged life style? If you are going to vote for a person because they promise to be different than other politicians then you should try to find out how he is different. I believe that there are people who think the color of his skin (which is only part black) is enough to convince people he is the candidate of change. Pretty stupid if you ask me. By the way, he hasn’t won the nomination yet. To listen to him you’d think if he becomes president he will have free reign in Washington. He will only be able to do marginal things without the support of congress and the senate, or don’t you know that?

Posted by: Edward Franco | February 14, 2008, 5:02 pm 5:02 pm

Posted by: TechGuy | February 14, 2008, 5:02 pm 5:02 pm

Hillary would be well advised to refrain from attacking Obama over legislation she co-sponsored. She would be well advised to return the PAC and lobbyist money she has collected before talking about taking on special interests, and to explain why she didn’t vote against a bankruptcy bill she claims to have opposed (she voted for it in 2001, and then sat on the sidelines and watched it pass while collecting banking industry money in 2005).
She has a great future in the Senate, and could be one of the workhorses of the new Democratic majority. Her attempts to attack Obama keep breaking her house’s windows, however, and her supporters’ continued attempts to play the race card further push away many of the voters she would need in November.

Obama said the florida democratic primary vote was like a beauty contest. Obama did campaign in florida thru cable tv. Disenfrancised , in the primaries , if our delegates are not seated , I will not vote in the General Election. There are over 1.7 million democrats that voted in florida and i bet most feel the same way.One way or the other Florida will make or break the democratic nominee. 3 other states also moved their primaries and no disenfrancisement. Obviously, you are echoing Hill-lair-y rhetoric’s, but the fact is
“Barack Obama doesn’t need any lectures on special interests from the candidate who’s taken more money from Washington lobbyists than any Republican running for President,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.”
“Hillary Clinton should tell the people of Ohio the truth — she once bragged about helping to pass the nuclear bill she’s now criticizing Obama for, she came out with her plan for green jobs one month after Obama did, and she’s said she’d ‘go after’ people’s wages if they couldn’t afford health insurance under her plan. Senator Clinton may have said that attacks and distortions are the ‘fun’ and ‘exciting’ part of the campaign, but they’re exactly what everyone else in America is tired of,” he said.

Posted by: John Elias | February 14, 2008, 5:13 pm 5:13 pm

The one-liner quality of Obama’s speeches – that rarely highlight plans or facts – reminds me of the one-liner platform Bush ran on.
Speech after speech, Obama talks about change in general metaphoric brush strokes, but I have no clue how he’s going to accomplish “Change I can Believe in.”
I believe Hillary is the person who can really begin to heal this country. It takes know-how to make believable change.
Do we really want someone with 4 years experience attempting to run this country on ideologies?
Isn’t that what Bush is trying to do as well (and failing miserably at – thank god!)
I don’t want 4 years of a lame duck president. I want 8 years of progress. Progress takes someone who thinks realistically – not in one-liners.

Consider: SINCE 1980, there has not been ONE presidential election in this country without either the name “Clinton” or “Bush” (or both) on the ballot.
Does that sound like democracy to you, my fellow Americans?
Can we not do better?
Is this really what we want?

edward franco, just your question about the school Obama’s young girls attend….lol you guys are off the charts!
You must support hillary because some of the stuff you are typing is just truly stupid. Must be the under 50K crowd…
You guys really need to get a grip about this election and what the job of a president really is, and maybe then you will stop asking such stupid questions.
Why don’t you find out what type schools Chelsea Clinton attended when her father was in Arkansas. Did she attend a public school?
Amazing!

Posted by: LA in Indiana | February 14, 2008, 5:29 pm 5:29 pm

OK, eleven22, I’ll bite. First, I don’t know what Obama has ever done for his “district” (by which maybe you mean state, since he does represent all of Illinois in the Senate), and I don’t care. What I think of both Hillary and Obama is, as I heard one commentator put it, “there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between them on the issues.” So let’s start even there. She has more experience (not 35 years’ worth, obviously – not sure why the Rose Law Firm years, or even Arkansas First Lady should qualify, but whatever) in the national political arena, and he has a longer legislative record, more in the state senate. I think that it is pretty clear that she has an encyclopedic knowledge of any issue you can throw in front of her. If her last name was not Clinton, and she did not have the history from the 1990′s that she has, I would say that she is the stronger candidate. But I can’t help but start with the fact that she has a ceiling – there is a VERY large percentage of people in this country who find her distasteful to the extreme, a woman who would do anything to win, and a person who brings out the enmity of the conservative right in this country like no other. I never wanted her to run, regardless of her intelligence and Senate record, because I think it is the ultimate selfish act. Even if she thinks she is the only one capable of doing the job right, I consider it selfish to drag this country back into the polarizing politics of the nineties, with venom spewing every direction, all the time.
What do I see in Obama? I’m one of the highly educated “idiots” who has fallen for his pie-in-the-sky rhetoric. First, he is consistely leading McCain in the polls, and Hillary is polling behind. In most contests with Hillary, Obama starts behind and moves forward; Hillary seems to only be able to improve so much. I think anyone going to support her is already doing so, and I don’t see her attracting independents. More important for me, Obama is an anti-Clinton, who really seems to have the potential to make people feel good about this country again, maybe even invested in it. This is the complete opposite of where I see things going if Clinton runs. We’ve had an awful 8 years – people need to feel good about this place again. I think that he’s an extremely intelligent man who is also extremely thoughtful. I trust that he will have advisers to whom he actually listens. He has been very active in the Senate, and I do not denigrate Hillary’s Senate record. I just think that sometimes history provides the right person for the right time, and she is not what this country needs right now.
Finally, for voters like the one who would never vote for someone with Obama’s middle name, I say no problem — I don’t think he was probably ever courting the ignorant racists’ vote, anyway.

Chelsea was in D.C. for high school, and she attended Sidwell Friends, an elite private institution. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that, but on that one I’d say they’re even.

Barack Obama is ducking debates?
“After 18 debates, with two more coming, Hillary says Barack Obama is ducking debates? It’s the same old politics, of phony charges and false attacks. On health care, even Bill Clinton’s own Labor Secretary says Obama covers more people than Hillary and does more to cut costs, saving $2,500 for the typical family. Obama’s housing plan — it stems foreclosures and cracks down on crooked lenders. That’s change we can believe in.

Posted by: John Elias | February 14, 2008, 5:31 pm 5:31 pm

Hill’s one and only claim to candidacy is her experience; but with all of her so called experience and leadership ability she has proven incapable of getting through her campaign without crying like a broken hearted school girl. Allow me to end the ‘experience’ debate once and for all – George W Bush has served two terms as POTUS; I rest my case. The wave of change is sweeping across the nation and you can be apart of it or be consumed by it but it all comes down to this: This country is stuck in the rut of ‘Politics as Usual’ and the Clintons, along with the GOP Corporate Meat Puppets, wrote the book on ‘Politics as Usual’ – NO MORE! The way out is FORWARD and whether you like it or not, Obama will win the nomination and crush the GOP Corporate Meat Puppets in November.

Can someone tell me what exactly Obama has done in his senate career that equate to big and drastic changes? What exactly has he done?…I listen and listen and listen and outside of the oscar performance speeches, I am clueless on his past great and drastic changes. Obama has a line that he uses again and again and again that goes like this…stand by me and you and I will change this country and the world. Ok, lets inject some reality into this hollywood movie…what exactly does that mean? If I vote for him, what and how exactly is he going to inspire me to help him change the economy, social policies, national security, immigration? When you step outside of the sparkle and shinning speeches, you are left with absolutely no specifics to fill up the over-inflated promises. The big problem here is that Obama supporters are like many others who falls for the fascade and the well crafted image…like followers of jim jones…without ever asking the crutial, specific, logical questions…and this is the shame of it all. Hillary does not need to talk the talk as long as she continues to take actions for changes….and this is why I’m a Hillary supporter all the way.

The only Hillary is not the clear choice here is because she is a woman. Sexism is alive and well….just heard a talk show host say he can’t imagine a woman being a comander in chief…please….I run my house like a military barack! I urge all women to recognize the double standards and sexist treatment that’s being played out against HIllary and make your vote count. 2008 is the year women will rise break that highest glass ceiling. we should not stand idle and watch a woman with 35 yrs of experience being pushed aside for a man who’s began campainging for president 2 yrs after he came to the senate. This is the kind of practice I pray my daughter will not have to deal with and I hope my vote for HIllary will count.

San Francisco, I’d LOVE to support a woman president. If Obama doesn’t get the nomination, I will. But I still wish it was a woman without quite so much baggage. It’s the Clinton-thing, stupid!

Posted by: 1234ellen | February 14, 2008, 5:44 pm 5:44 pm

You Hillary haters will get your just deserts if Obama is the nominee. He has shown little depth about anything except for the plans he copied from Hillary and called his own. Sounding good on the stump and being treated like an idol cannot continue to prop him up. No amount of endorsements, such as Kennedy and Kerry who must dislike southern men like Carter and Clinton, can hold him up against McCain. Or will he forego debates with McCain so the voters cannot see his lack of depth. Hillary is not any of the mean and vicious descriptions you have given. She has been a very intelligent and caring woman who has made a difference for the good in many peoples’ lives. It is easy to see that you are working very hard to bring people together. Your vision does not bode well for this country’s future.

Come on, San Francisco, I can put out the laundry list again, but are you seriously pretending that she is NOT a divisive figure??? She has markedly high unfavorable ratings, and has since they left the White House. I’m saying that people are sick of the Clintons, and no specifics are required to back up such a claim.

Posted by: 1234ellen | February 14, 2008, 5:54 pm 5:54 pm

Excuse me, but there are plenty of differences on issues btw. Obama and Hillary. 1. Iraq war – He was against from the beginning while she voted “for” it and refused to recant the vote on many occasions. 2. Health Care Reform – Hillary’s proposal is mandatory in that if you do not take it you will be penalized just like a fine for not having a driver’s license. Also, she did not take cost control into consideration. Estimated to absorb more than 16% of our economy, her proposal is simply a pandering promise without realistic judgment. Bill Clinton warned in 1993 that if the Health Care cost share of our national income passed 12%, we would face an economic disaster. (I wonder what he’d say about his wife’s plan, now). Barack Obama on the other hand, focuses on the lowering of the cost. Isn’t it true that many of us would love to be covered by the Health Care, but cannot afford to? His plan provides a pragmatic approach that we all can work on. 3. Wiretapping – Hillary did not show up to vote against the provision that granted immunity for telecom companies of illegal wiretapping this week. She was in the area and managed not to show up to vote. Unlike her, Barack Obama did show up and did vote against the provision. He is one of the 31 democratic Senators who voted against it and deeply care about our civil rights. *** If you look into it, there are numerous issues they differ from each other. They may look more similar when compared to the Rep. ideas and proposals. P.s. *1. telecom companies are one of the 5 most powerful lobbying forces in Washington and Hillary is backed by the telecom companies. *2. Guess who’s also backing Hillary up – the insurance and drug companies who defeated Hillary’s 1993 Health Care Reform are big donators for the Hill’s campaign.

A couple of quick thoughts.
Firstly- the experience argument, well frankly I don’t get it. Really history teaches us that practically nothing trains you to be President. People with a long record in public service have been awful Presidents, people with no record in public service have been awful presidents. People with long records in public service have been great Presidents, people with virtually no experience in public service have been great presidents. Great Presidency’s come down to judgement and intelligence.
Secondly, in a global context, many countries have elected women to positions of leaderships. Even the US has a woman Speaker of the House of Representatives at the moment. I cannot think of one western democracy that has ever elected a member of an ethnic minority to power (save maybe Disraeli and one or two other secular Jews??

Posted by: markymark | February 14, 2008, 6:00 pm 6:00 pm

Addendum: McCain will offer an alternative choice if the Democratic nominee is Obama. McCain’s main negative
is, perhaps, a longer stay in Iraq and the Middle East. If that is the case, this country may have to reinstitute the draft. Don’t worry. Everyone will have jobs and the economy can put all the bloggers back to work, unless they are already blogging on the job. McCain is a moderate, however, and his presidency will be a big CHANGE from George Bush! And I am sure that is the change you are all looking for–The change that will bring everybody together again. Hallelujah!

News Flash to all Obama supporters: Ignorance is not bliss!!!
Obama’s healthcare plan leaves out 15+ million people. Who will crash back to the healthcare system for help and leave our service stretched and expensive because of ongoing healthcare for non-insured people. Hillary’s is mandatory with provisions for lower income folks so they can get coverage.
Obama voted 135 times ‘present’ and when asked saying that he did it to avoid a political trap…aka, to protect his political career.
Obama voted against a bill that would allow sex shop to be set up next to schools
Obama voted against a bill that will limit the interest rate credit card companies can charge their customers
Obama’s close friend who bought land next to his house has been indicted for ‘political fixing’ aka, taking bribes for political favors.
Obama’s grand speech against the Iraq war is his only claim to fame but even then…he began to back-track a year later when public sentiment was for the war. Then flip back to being anti-war when public sentiment became against war.
Obama began essembling his presidential campaign machine 2 years after coming to the senate…a bit arrogant I would say.
Obama’s other claim to fame that he boasted over is his legislator he crafted where congressman can no longer accept meal from lobbiest…turns out it only apply to sit down meals but not stand up meals. Hmmmm, now that’s some fantastic changes that I can really belive in…..PPPPPPPlease! I’m no Jim Jones supporter and I aint dump enough to be an Obama supporter. I haven’t lived this long to vote a used car salesman into the office of president.

Notice Hillary is the only one running negative campaigning. Obama wants to bring our nation up and fill them with hope, while all she does is rip on Obama. The Clinton’s are running a dirty campaign and the man behind the curtain is her sleazy husband. Her campaigning and attitude reminds me of Bush and thats exactly the person we don’t need in the white house.

Don’t be charmed by a campaign spin.
**Robert Reich, Bill’s Labor Secretary, stated that Obama’s Health Care Plan covers “more people” than Hillary’s. Also, he mentioned that Obama’s plan lowers its cost more than Hillary’s.
** Please, don’t try to sell me a lemon.

Posted by: Philip, NY | February 14, 2008, 6:17 pm 6:17 pm

The Clintons are not running negative campaigning….they’re running a pissed off campaign. I can’t blame them. If I was Hillary with all the hard work and experience earned…just to be criticized and minimized because of her gender…while someone who is barely out of diaper and who can regergitate great speeches of the past is being applauded as the next JFK, I would be mad as hell. I feel what HIllary’s feeling…this treatment of minimizing a woman’s experience and ability has gone on in corporate america for a long time and it does not surprise me that an inexperience man is getting all the attention over the well qualify woman. It is a really sad thing that is happenning to all women in this country.

Posted by: San Francisco, California | February 14, 2008, 6:19 pm 6:19 pm

Clintons had their chance.. 8 years.. more of the same crap, no national health, no fixed to SS, what, they want a DO OVER?? Not on my watch.. Obama DOES have particulars.. but his speeches are not the place to find them out.. more than buzz words more than the digest version.. go read them!

Posted by: bookwerm | February 14, 2008, 6:21 pm 6:21 pm

Philip, you’re right, I should not minimize their differences. I am all for Obama. But, my point is – if you think that universal health care is worth having in this country, then come Nov., we should all support whichever candidate takes the nom, because they both do. And really, any candidate’s plan in this regard is just a starting point for congressional wrangling anyway. Or, if you support troop withdrawal more quickly than McCain does, than either Dem.s’ plan should make you happier than the other side. I hate that so many people are so anti-the other guy when we should all try our very hardest to end up on the same side. This will have to be our best shot, can Dems please avoid not blowing it???

Posted by: georgia | February 14, 2008, 6:27 pm 6:27 pm

You’re right…his speeches is not the place to get specifics from him. His debate is not he place to get specifics from him…..you really should go to his website where you’ll get some things…that look strangely similiar to all of HIllary’s proposals. But his past voting records is what’s fascinating…two glaring things….1) no votes, absents and present votes 2) check out the things he did vote for…sex shop to be build next to schools, credit card companies to be no ceilings on interest rates, voted for funding the war…but wait, he was against the war..hmmm
So yes, I urge all voters to dig deeper into Obama’s past voting records and you’ll see that the records do not reflect the slogan. This is the classic 101 sales pitch!!! sell people the image, the fascade, the idea……especially when you have no real substantial product or in this case substance to back it up. Obama is a fraud and the shame is that he may just deny one of the best qualify president the country will have. Hillary is all about about hard work and persistent…her presidency will bring drastic changes and this country will be nurtured with such greatness with her as president.

Posted by: San Francisco, California | February 14, 2008, 6:30 pm 6:30 pm

Actually, I think the sex-shop vote was one of the “present” votes. I only know because I’ve done my own research on his present votes. Please don’t assume that none of the Obama voters have done their own research. A lot of those present votes were also done one the basis of Obama’s concerns about the constitutionality of a particular measure, or the fact that it was being rushed to vote without time for adequate review. He cast nearly 4,000 votes in Illinois, so only a small percentage were present, anyway. And no, I’m not claiming that none were done for political expediency, but I don’t see evidence that 130 were.

Strange isn’t it. The Clinton camp has split itself into three candidates (Hill, Bill, and now Chelsea) and Obama is left to go it alone. Not that it will matter. It is time for Hillary to hang up her hat so that we can move forward.

Like Obama, we saw her trying to read great and inspiring speech, it didn’t work. Her friend John McCain, Mitt Romney, they all copied Obama and Edwards. Did you hear McCain saying ” I am ready to go! Fired up. Hillary didn’t tell us either how she is going to succeed this time with her Universal Health Plan.

Posted by: 1234ellen | February 14, 2008, 7:19 pm 7:19 pm

I’ve noticed something very refreshing reading the comments posted here. Clinton supporters have come out in force today with a mixture of vehemence, ignorance, racism, and hypocrisy. Clinton supporters, perhaps coinciding with the varying qualities of her campaign strategy, have shown what they are all about–that they are just what Clinton asked for–that they will say anything to get elected. Meanwhile, Obama supporters and even people who haven’t made up their minds yet are much more even in their response. And while the Obama supporters all want to fight against the ignorance, the malevolent voices here, the usual subdued racism I come across on every Obama post, sometimes you have to fight back with compassion and understanding. Thus the Obama comments have been hugely positive—like his message of change. The biggest difference between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama—and it makes ALL the difference to me—is that Clinton tells people what they want to hear, Obama tells people what they need to hear. When addressing stock brokers and executives at the NASDAQ market site on Wall Street, he said people like themselves need to reappraise their values in the marketplace. He said this directly to their faces. When Hillary Clinton condemns Wall Street, among her biggest contributors, she does it in Florida, or California, or someplace where they might only read about it or hear it dismissively it by word of mouth. When Hillary Clinton addresses a largely black audience, she tells them that she knows it hard being black, that things are wrong and unfair in this world, and she’s going to try to help. When Barack Obama addresses a largely black audience, he tells them they need to change the mindset that being smart is being “white”, that we need to invest in our children—all children, everywhere if we are to succeed. He has the courage and moral character to confront problems head on instead of in another state thousands of miles away. He tells them to take the step forward out of the shadows of the past and into the future. That is what Barack Obama is all about—this country moving into the future together. It’s about hope. It’s about returning government to serve the people instead of corporations and ultimately themselves. It’s about people serving their country together united in a common purpose they can believe in. And when faced with the choice of cynicism and hatred versus hope and love, the human heart will always choose the latter. If it’s specific policy guidance you seek from Barack Obama, then you should check his website to find strategy and detailed policies for over 24 facets of American life from Iraq to Iowa. If it’s experience you seek, let’s not forget that President George W. Bush, who spent five years as Governor of Texas, whose brother was Governor of Florida, whose father was Vice-President for eight years and President for four, who was President himself for four years, has in his last and final term shows us that in 2008 that choice to re-elect him has only made our country weaker and more divided, economically, politically, and socially than our generation has ever witnessed. Cleary, this wealth of experience has served the country well. And for those who would claim Hillary Clinton’s First Lady experience as experience, then you should nominate Monica Lewinsky because she has at least equal claim to that. I’m sorry, I know that was a cheap shot, but its atleast mildly funny. In all seriousness, character and integrity are the most important virtues a President should posses. Give me a smart and experience person with no ethical roots and I’ll give you a disaster. Kenneth Lay, Richard Nixon, Resident Bush—I could go on and on. So if the Obamania “group think” idea is to change government to align it with serving to the benefit of all Americans and the World, then count me in that group and let Obamania and this rash of exuberance that individuals can make a difference when they stand together for what is right, flow over this country like a bukect of cold water waking us from a nightmare of apathy. You just have to believe it. Yes you can. Yes we can. Together

Everyday in this country, people are losing their life savings and going bankrupt paying for medical expenses. This includes those who HAVE insurance. People who HAVE insurance are denied claims everyday. I can go on, but the point is that just because you have insurance doesn’t mean you are covered and protected. The real issue here is cost and lack of care. Hillary has a plan to FORCE you to have coverage but does nothing to reduce the cost. How is this a solution to the for-profit health industry? Will her plan fix any of the issues with health insurance today. No, she is counting on competition to reduce costs. Seriously, if that is all it takes to reduce cost why hasn’t it happened yet? There is no monopoly in health care. Only corruption with money going one way, and her plan is gonna take the money right out of your paychecks. Way to go!

You are living in another world. You resort to ridicule, sexism, distortion, and name-calling to make any point. So much for bringing people together. Just which peoples are you planning to bring together? And how?
It’s time for a war hero to bring us together, and if he can’t, maybe he’ll be better on security.

Experience means nothing unless you learn from your mistakes. Insanity is when you continue to make the same choices expecting a different result. People, our government has been making the same choices, and yet some of us are expecting different results. How long will you wait?

This is not a quantitative objection, but a qualitative one. There was a revealing moment in the debate at St. Anselm’s College, when Clinton unleashed what was supposed to be her rhetorical masterstroke: “Words are not actions.” This provoked Obama to explain that words are actions: “The truth is actually words do inspire. Words do help people get involved… .
The refulgence of Obama’s oratory, with its passages of re-moralizing lyricism, is a political and even a cultural gain. Yet an argument about the centrality of eloquence for politics from Barack Obama makes me uneasy… I worry that it is most of what he has and most of what he knows. When, as in the debates, Obama cannot resort to his silken swelling sentences, he seems pretty conventional. The closer he comes to the stuff of policy, the swifter the magic is gone. Perhaps policy is just not magical. Still, he seems more prepared for the aria of politics than for the recitative of government.
This has something to do with “experience,” the other moronic mantra of this race. Plainly experience is no promise of wisdom or success…but I must admit that when, at the St. Anselm’s debate, Obama began a sentence with “As commander-in-chief I will … ” I shuddered. There were about ten years in my life as a citizen when I would not have so shuddered. They were the years – a second youth, historically speaking – between the fall of the Berlin Wall and the fall of the World Trade Center.
Since I am once again a national security and foreign policy voter – nobody cares equally about everything – I am unenthusiastic about the prospect of electing a president from the Illinois state legislature. How, really, can Obama’s years in the United States Senate be described as distinguished? There was no time, at least for that.
Then there is the disjunction between his inexperience and his assuredness. Obama’s popularity is owed in no small measure to the charisma of his confidence in himself. He has a redeemer’s gait, and enters a hall like he has come to save it. This leaves me cold; and I was dismayed by his reference, in his concession speech in New Hampshire, to skeptics as cynics: a familiar feature of the righteousness of the candidate who beat him. But people believe in people who believe in themselves, and Obama’s belief in himself is devout, innate, and of Seinfeldian proportions. I hope it is educable, though I dread the ordeal of yet another president’s “education.”
I hear a lot about Obama as a “post-racial” candidate, and I am not sure what this means. I understand that he is a hybridity idol, Kansas and Kenya and all that – “our first Benetton candidate,” as a friend admiringly remarked…. All this adoring talk has the consequence of making Obama stand for little more than his own identity. But every identity, even the most exotic one, is narrow, until life widens it. Nobody is adequately equipped by their origins to manage human affairs.

It’s time for someone to start thinking about how Americans will put food on the table, stay in their homes, get healthcare, have something for retirement, etc. I don’t think that any political party has done anything for the people of this country once Reagan was elected. The chickens are coming home to roost as our young people forgo marriage because they simply can’t afford to start a family. When I started working my employer and union provided me with the peace of mind – including 100% of the cost of health insurance for my entire young family, a vacation, paid sick time, disability benefits, a pension, tuition assistance, and overtime if I worked extra hours or on holidays – that encouraged us to settle down and raise a family. Young people today simply can’t afford to raise a family. Where is the commitment to family values the Republicans talk about? The middle class has been picked clean. It has no future until Americans demand and achieve restoration of the compensation and working conditions that we earned with our productivity everday. We must not settle for the political choices that the corporatocracy select for us.

WHY SENATOR OBAMA AFRAID TO HAVE A DEBATE WITH SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON?
DEBATE IS A WAY YOU CAN GAUGE OR FIND OUT WHAT KIND OF CANDIDATE YOU ARE ELECTING OR VOTING.
HERE’S THE FOLLOWING LOGICAL REASON:
1. THEIR ELECTABILITY AND EXPERIENCE 2. WHAT IS THERE PLANS FOR OUR COUNTRY 3. HOW THEY HANDLE THEMSELVES UNDER PRESSURE 4. IF THIS CANDIDATE IS JUST BLUFFING – THAT WILL SHOW THE WAY THEY ANSWER THE QUESTION.
PLUS VOTERS NEED TO KNOW WHO THEY ARE VOTING – YOU ARE ELECTING A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA – WE CANNOT JUST TAKE TO CHANCE IN ELECTING A WRONG PRESIDENT AGAIN! NOR WE CANNOT AFFORD AN ON THE JOB TRAINING PRESIDENT! BEAUTIFUL SPEECHES AND RHETORIC IS NOT ENOUGH TO SOLVED OUR COUNTRY PROBLEMS: ECONOMY , IRAQ WAR, IMMIGRATION AND SO ON… VOTERS DESERVE TO FIND OUT WHO ARE THEY ELECTING – WE CANNOT JUST GO WITH THE FLOW WHAT THE MEDIA IS TRYING TO FEED US. FOR AMERICA CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER BLOW. THAT’S WHY DEBATE IS REALLY ESSENTIAL IN THE ELECTION PROCESS THE MORE THE BETTER. MY QUESTION IS WHY SENATOR OBAMA IS SO AFRAID TO HAVE A DEBATE WITH SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON – UNLESS YOU ARE HIDING SOMETHING THAT YOU DON’T WANT THE VOTER TO KNOW OR PICK UP.

Sam Lim–Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have debated 18 times thus far. If you haven’t picked up on THAT yet, you’re never going to. If you would like to view them all, I’m sure you can find many of them on Youtube. If you would like to open your eyes, I’m sure you’d find that a good Presidential candidte would rather meet and listen to new people in different parts of the country they’ve never met before, than to one person they’ve met and listened to 18 time before. Does that make sense to you Sam?

This is nothing against Obama, except that he is all words and no action. What has he done? Your vote has serious consequences and will affect your life over the next 4 years. Hillary Clinton’s real problem was her cocky assumption that she is the sure fire heir apparent to the Democratic Party’s candidacy. She thought Super Tuesday would be her coronation day. Alas! Everything turned out to a day dream. Since then, she had resorted to every dirty tricks in the book — the race card to the spin strategy — but to no avail.
She couldn’t stop the Obama juggernaut. She claims that Obama doesn’t have the requisite experience. I have a question for her: What experience did her husband Bill had before becoming President. If I recall correctly, he was just a one-term governor of Arkansas, one of the smallest states in the US.
Hillary now redicules Obama’s clarion call for ‘change’ as a mere word. Tell that to the hundreds of thousands Americans – young and old – who have rallied behind Mr Obama to dump political relics of yesteryears. The truth is days of being beholden to lobbyists and vested interest groups who fill the coffers of the likes of you are over. The politics of divisions and deprivation are soon to be over in the new UNITED States of America under the leadership of the likes of Obamas.

So much for Obama having the ‘voice of america’ .

Senator Clinton — Senator Clinton’s, who has served only one full term (6yrs.), and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law, (20) twenty pieces of legislation.
1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Hon
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after Jonn A. O’Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.

Only five of Senator Clinton’s bills are more substantive:
16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.
In Conclusion, you now have the facts straight from the Senate Records vault.

Thank you James Brown 4 PRECISE OUTLINE
of OBAMA’s FULL CAPACITY 2 LEAD US–USA.
Hillary on the other hand is by far and away SIMPLY an AGING POM-POM girl having
absolutely–extremely little to NO–PART
IN the GAME ON THE FIELD, only reacting WELL AFTER-THE-FACT, yet even THEN ONLY WHEN OTHER SIDELINERS BEGIN TO CHEER …
ANOTHER VITAL ISSUE — ECONOMIC TRADE:
NAFTA is the REPUBLICAN legislative bill
signed into law by Bill Clinton between
the two BUSH Administrations. As a few are aware, BUSH JR. is continuing the FREE TRADE dominoes with Canada & a few more countries SOUTH of TEXAS, including
a couple in South America.
HERE’S the PROBLEM, FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS:
Trade agreements between the USA & other
countries do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to mend
the STILL WIDE RIFT between two bodies of people speaking SPANISH and ENGLISH.
ON THE OTHER HAND we have countries like
PUERTO RICO that we have “nationalized” via the ECONOMIC EXPANSION METHOD USED EXTENSIVELY IN OUR RICH-STORIED HISTORY,
KNOWN AS — TERRITORIALIZATION.
PUERTO RICO IS NOT A US STATE; rather it
IS AN ECONOMIC TERRITORY of the US, with
the US DOLLAR & MILITARY present within.
PUERTO RICO IS FLOURISHING AS A RESULT.
US Territories as such are the nearest TRUE USA economic/social melting pot.
MANY MANY MANY FOLKS NOW LIVING SOUTH OF
TEXAS WOULD WELCOME US CITIZENSHIP VIA
TERRITORIALIZATION. This “EXPANSIONIST”
POLICY would do WAY MORE for the PEOPLE
of “converted” countries, WAY MORE than
“trade agreements” between countries …
This is IN FACT how DEMOCRACY is spread,
by INCLUDING the PEOPLE, rather than go on STATUS QUO by USING THE PEOPLE, as is
the still existant case with agreements.
AN ISOLATIONIST POLICY would otherwise
produce a trade agreement with a COLONY,
which our own revolution showed, indeed,
produce USARY economic relationships.
Back to INCLUSIONARY POLITICS:
Each converted country would retain its national flag, yet though appended to a front swatch GOLD STAR on BLUE BACKING,
such as that on the STATE OF TEXAS FLAG.
The US Flag would REMAIN AS IS, perhaps thou with the bottom right star as GOLD.
As with PUERTO RICO each country retains
its cultural/social autonomy untouched.
OUR ILLUSTRIOUS CONGRESS can do WAY MORE
for ALL OF MANKIND pursing expansionism.
Trade Agreements usually end up in WAR.
Look at history folks … OURS & others.

Barack’s speeches have brought millions of dollars and millions of people to his movement for change.
That is not exactly food on the table. But he has proved that given the position of President he can use speeches to motivate enough people to change what is wrong in our nation. Hillary is just going to bash her opponents and change nothing.

Uniter vs. a divider?
I’ve lived enough of my life in the Red States and Blue States of America and I’m over it. I’d like to live in the UNITED States of America for a change. I respect Hillary but the only uniting I see her capable of is uniting the Republican party in November. For me, Obama is our obvious choice.

In reality, Hillary and Barack are both very close politically. I just think that Barack does better again the Republicans in the Fall. Also, Barack would bring the country together and therefore be able to start cleaning up the mess that has been caused the last 7 years. Let’s all go from the worst in history to the Best in the Future.

Everybody wants to be on a winning team. While Obama is talented and gives a moving motivating speech, Clinton has the experience, intelligence and understands how Washington works. As President, Obama stated that he would televise the “inner workings” of our gov. institutions so that the american people could keep things in-check. How nieve can you get? Sorry Obama, while I truly respect you, I will take experience any day over hype. Lucky for Obama the “average” American voters “political” attention span is short on substance and big on dreams. Clinton would be the better candidate but, as we saw with the tragic elections of GWBush – the American populace loves to be spoon fed. Regardless, Jan. 20, 2009 Hang in there American – the end of the GWBush “error”.

Note to Obama campaign:
So Hillary has the answers huh. I don’t make speeches. I offer Solutions. I am the solution person. I, I , I , me, me me. I will solve all of your problems.
Yes, Sen. Obama is a good speech giver. But it does not stop there. Are you paying attention to what he says. He doesn’t say he is going to do this and that – he asks US to come up with the solution.
A talented leader who can motivate the electorate and the citizenry can motivate those citizens to get off their butts and do something. We have gotten fat and complacent for too long expecting our leaders to take care of us. I don’t want Hillary to come up witht the solution for me. I want to have a part in that solution. That is what Obama is asking of us.And it’s working. Roosevelt did not undersetimate the power of motiviating Americans and collectively we did great things during WWII. Bush had us in the palm of his hands after 2001 and he asked nothing of us. No call to greatness.

“Talk is cheap.” Tell that to the generations who heard or read A.

or JFK’s inaugural address.
Words can inspire, move people to
action, create a shift in how
society operates.

“Speeches don’t put food on the table. Speeches don’t fill up your tank, or fill your prescription, or do anything about that stack of bills that keeps you up at night.”
Clinton continued, “Some people may think words are change. You and I know better. Words are cheap….”
This seems a bit disingenuous coming from the Clintons. A quick read of this list of fees Bill Clinton earned for speeches – upwards of $30 million – suggests that words do have value.

Obama is not electable, because his following has divided the party. Your hatred towards everthing and anything that doesn’t spell Obama, is destroying not only Obama’s chances, but the party’s chances.

Posted by: okdokethen | February 16, 2008, 3:55 pm 3:55 pm

I find these repeated observations that Senator Obama has divided the Democratic Party to be so baseless as to be laughable. This party has so much more to be united about in resistance to the continued divide and conquer tactics of Republicans since Ronald Reagan that this polite rift between two candidates for the Democratic nomination won’t raise a ripple by November. I don’t see evidence for anything wound that won’t heal with a band aid and a kiss. It makes me question the motivation of those who want to see wounds that won’t heal. No one who knows ANYTHING about the history of political campaigns could see this as a bitter feud, when what it clearly is is evidence of a better candidate. The presumption that all of the voters who agree with me enough to vote for Barack Obama are somehow duped by his excellent rhetoric is not merely insulting it is ridiculous. I see no evidence of superior intelligence in the writing of those who repeatedly express that opinion to justify their claim to superior incite into the candidates.

Posted by: Joey Tranchina | February 21, 2008, 6:54 am 6:54 am

The one criticism that has some merit is that we do not know enough about the record of Senator Obama. While I have begun to study his record and have found some good things I do want to hear an explanation for his “present” votes on controversial issues. More detailed policy positions are clearly needed, but I would suggest that he not be too explicit before he has the nomination. Senator Obama’s policies must be carefully drafted to be sound; practical and passable. I would not want to see him tied to positions that might help win a nomination but could cost him the election.
On the other hand, anyone who has been paying attention to Hillary Clinton’s wind-driven positions should know all one need know about her ability to lead this nation out of the wilderness of Republican incompetence and irresponsibility — how dare they talk about empty rhetoric — I, for one, was resigned to hold my nose to vote for Senator Clinton; I certainly hope that I am left with a better choice come November.

Posted by: Joey Tranchina | February 21, 2008, 7:09 am 7:09 am

Addenda:
I hope all Americans have a better option, to the extension of Republican bigotry and incompetence, than Hillary Clinton offers. I believe Barack Obama is that better option. I believe he offers the possibility of a dynamic unity that could make the best of both parties.
I don’t like big government but big bad-government is intolerable. Big-bad government is what the Bush administration has give us. The only way I know to end the domination of a bully is to put him on his back. Once that’s done, it is possible to improve his manners. Democrats do not have all the answers; they tend to be economic imbeciles while Republicans, when they go bad, are pirates.
To turn this oil tanker of a republic around, America needs more than hope, but without hope it makes no difference what we do with the rudder, because we’re going nowhere.
