Hillary: Obama = Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery

In all the historical analogies buzzing about like fruitflies in this campaign — Obama = MLK, Obama = JFK, Obama = Sidney Poitier, Hillary = RFK, Hillary =LBJ, Obama = Lincoln, Mitt = Reagan, McCain = Reagan — there was one I missed, that George Packer’s recent New Yorker story brought to my attention.

Speaking of Michael Korda’s recent biography of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Clinton talked about Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery "who was given great marks for being so brilliant and inspiring of his men, but often had a difficult time making a tough decision, often dithered about it, and claimed he needed more information before he could pull the trigger."

Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, but we shall add it to our historical analogy list, as well as this nugget she told Packer in an interview: "I’m more reserved than people realice or accept of someone who’s in the public eye, especially in the times in which we live. I think the world is only beginning to recognize that women should be permitted the same range of leadership styles that we permit men. I followed with great interest the election of Angela Merkel as Germany’s first woman Chancellor. Many of the things that were said about her would certainly sound familar."

Obama = Montgomery; Clinton = Merkel.

Any others?

Senator Obama going to say to republicans when asked why he favors granting drivers’ licenses to illegal immigrants as Obama has admitted twice in debates? About Obama’s present position that undocumented workers will not be covered in his healthcare proposal, yet when he was running for the Senate he said that children of undocumented workers should get the same healthcare benefits that citizens get? when they begin to ask him about negotiating in unstructured summits with the leaders of Iran, North Korea and Cuba without preconditions? What will Senator Obama say when Senator McCain asks him why he said in 2004 that he did not know how he would have voted on the Iraq war authorization and that his view of the Iraq war was not different from President Bush’s? What will Senator Obama say when Senator McCain compares Obama’s votes to fully fund the Iraq War in the Senate to Obama’s rhetorical opposition to that war? What is Senator Obama going to say when Senator McCain questions Obama’s claim to be “the most qualified person in America to conduct the foreign policy of the United States”? What is Senator Obama going to say when Senator McCain says that Obama is not one of the most qualified members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to lead this country in today’s dangerous world but instead one of the most absent? Senator Obama has not conducted a single policy hearing as chairman of the subcommittee on European Affairs of the Foreign Relations Committee?

Here are a few more comparisons that come to mind for the Dems, each as valid as the ones already posited: Clinton = Blondie, Obama = Dagwood, Bill Clinton = Mr. Dithers; Clinton = Jane Jetson, Obama = George Jetson, Bill Clinton = Cosmo Spacely; Clinton = June Cleaver, Obama = Ward Cleaver, Bill Clinton = Eddie Haskell.
And for the Repubs, McCain = Mr. Wilson, Romney = Dennis the Menace, Hucakbee = Joey (Dennis’ best friend); McCain = Ralph Kramden, Romney = Ed Norton, Huckabee = Trixie Norton; McCain = Wally Cleaver, Romney = Beaver Cleaver, Huckabee = Lumpy Rutherford.

The Kennedy’s have been nothing but disgraceful scandals in the last 25 years, relatives accused of murders, rapes etc and that gives the Kennedy name clout? Don’t think so… Ted Kennedy is now go headed for a disgraceful end. The Massachusetts senator has been caught in a sneaky plot to kill a clean-energy project in Nantucket Sound. Seems he doesn’t want to see wind turbines from his waterfront estate. “Don’t you realize — that’s where I sail!” he famously said.
The Obama campaign has criticized Hillary Clinton’s candidacy as another example of dynastic politics. But now that Obama is playing adopted son of the Kennedy clan, that argument falls apart. Kennedy mystique Is so much JUST hot air. Obama, new? Change? Going back to the Kennedy Camelot Era does not benefit anyone in 2008 – or could even survive with the media probes and questions that are asked today. The Kennedy’s have been legally less desirable since JFK. Old Joe and his money?? Questions about his involvement in some of those early elections. All the affairs and nepotism in JFK’s cabinet – at least one brother and brother-in-law. And their next generation has certainly made their share of questionable choices, charged with rapes, murders etc… Amazing Ted is shaking his finger at the Clintons! Caroline stayed away from the political arena because she didn’t want to align herself and her children with this messy history. There is always going to be some revisionism with historical figures — Earl Ofari Hutchinson did a killer deconstruction on the recent rewriting of Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy — especially those who have died, so, let’s dispense with the niceties: John F. Kennedy did propose the landmark civil rights bill and that is most of his “legacy.” Actually, the record was mediocre. Just some of the highlights: Opposed the 1957 Civil Rights Acts. Used this as a wedge issue against Nixon! to help capture the “solid South” in the 1960 election. Did absolutely nothing for civil rights in his first year of office. Encouraged, told or instructed Robert Kennedy to sic Adam Clayton Powell on Martin Luther King, threatening to expose an imaginary sexual scandal with Bayard Rustin, MLK’s black gay top lieutenant, to prevent a march in Los Angeles. Opposed the 1963 March on Washington. Refused to deploy troops to protect the Freedom Riders. Ignored the Albany, Georgia bus station riot. So many more lost opportunities to choose from…. In the early 1960s, obviously, JFK’s attention was diverted to Cuba, Berlin, Vietnam, and, increasingly, Marilyn Monroe and other actresses. If Kennedy capitulated to the blacks, the Southern white Democrats would revolt. If he did nothing–which he mostly did–the violence would continue and world attention would focus on the inept White House. The Kennedys had a horrible relationship with Congress, so, there wasn’t much the president could on his. On the other hand, by sitting on his hands, the violence quotient increased, which is why he was forced to “propose” the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. Oh yeah, this probably helped endear his family to black voters in Chicago and New York City. There was an election in 1964 … We’ve got too much work that needs to be done in this country to follow this route. Obama time is definitely ready or able to lead this great country.

The most compelling analogies I’ve heard are:
Obama = Robert Kennedy
Clinton = FDR
The Inspirer vs. The Problem Solver

A few more for the Dems: Obama = James T. Kirk, Clinton = Mr. Spock, Bill Clinton = Dr. McCoy; Obama = Ricky, Clinton = Lucy, Bill Clinton = Fred; Obama = Brian Griffin, Clinton = Lois Griffin, Bill Clinton = Stewie Griffin.
And a few more for the Repubs: McCain = Obi Wan Kenobi, Romney = Darth Vader, Huckabee = R2D2; McCain = Don Lockwood, Romney = Cosmo Brown, Huckabee = Lina Lamont; McCain = Jean-Luc Picard, Romney = Wesley Crusher, Huckabee = Cmdr. William Riker.

Well, if the comparison fits – and it sounds like a pretty accurate description of Obama to me given his demeanor and answers in the debates.

I think Mona has it backwards, as far as predictions go. But putting that aside, props for the sports reference. Because it’s all a big game.

Hillary is no Shirley Chisolm. Shirley Chisolm was the first African American women in Congress and who ran for presidency in 1972. Hillary should know some black history before she mentioned president Lyndon who did absolutely nothing. She couldn’t run Bill so how could she run the country.

First the Blacks should be thanking the Republicans not johnson for the Civil rights bill, the right to vote and for freedom!

They are just people, using what they have making them unique to what they are use to giving and taking. (PERIOD)
Is it possible that Bill and Hillary, if elected will have to pay favors to persons that helped Bill in his escape from impeachment? Is this the same thing that the present Bush Administration, has done by promising positions to persons that was not qualified to do the jobs they were assigned to do.
Can America tolerate another four (4) years of this type of leadership with a Clinton nomination of the Democratic Party or Presidency? I think NOT.
It appears that Hillary is taking up where Bill left off, in her last speech, she speaks of creating jobs and keeping them here in the U.S., but on the other hand it is true that she was the champion for the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). This took jobs out of the U.S. so: L…, L…,L…, “Pants on Fire”
And the people of this country, who will walk into a wall over and over again, need to know that it is not a good thing to keep getting bumps on the head. Why elect someone that will lie to you on the facts.
And for Middle Class Republicans
If you can view the Internet Site of the Census Bureau (www.census.gov) they would see as far back as 40 years, that every time a Republican was in office Americans not only lost Household Income but also more of their Freedom and when Democrats were in office the Gross Household Income increased. Point is that all of you middle-class Republicans should stop beating your head against a wall, just because you think that your parents were right or that the people you elect will be moral in their values (no values in the past 7 years from Republicans what makes you think they will be born again). It is true that CHANGE is a scary thing. But food on the table, gas in the tank, a roof over your head (foreclosures) and a job to go to (not in India), is worth the good change/scare (not like the scare the Rep. Have given with the Bin Laden scare which happen under the Rep. watch).

Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term (6yrs.), and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law, (20) twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years.
These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress (www.thomas.loc.gov), but to save you trouble, I’ll post them here for you.

I challenge Clinton supporters to name a single legislative accomplishment that demonstrates her superior experience.
Now, I would post those of Obama’s, but the list is too substantive, so I’ll mainly categorize. During the first (8) eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced
233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
Obama’s first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included:
**the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee), and many more.
In all since enter the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record for someone who supposedly has no record according to the spin meisters, mindless twits and women who would vote for Hillary just because she’s a woman.

Well, she should remember that Montgomery was also recognized for inspiring his men and being a very competent General. Lighting fast attacks and always recognizing the battlefield situation.
He was a close 2nd to Patton and his only real flaw was an inability to share the glory with American commanders.
Analogies wont save her.
