John Glenn to Endorse Hillary Clinton
ABC News’ Jake Tapper Reports: Sources close to Senator Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign tells ABC News that former astronaut Sen. John Glenn, D-Ohio, will endorse Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, tomorrow in Columbus, Ohio, at 1 pm local time.
Glenn will appear at the endorsement event with Gov. Ted Strickland, D-Ohio, another prominent Clinton-backer in the must-win state, which will hold its primary in three weeks.
Clinton will not be there.
Glenn ran for president in 1984.
In the presidential arena, at least, he did not have the right stuff.

Hillary= the old ways, even half dead people endorse her, we want a new, young leader, with progressive ideas

What are the old ways, Steve? And more to the point, what new ways do you propose? Be specific, leave out the lofty generalities. This campaign appears to be about tearing down as many people as you can, then bring everybody together! It may already be too late. You say nothing of the established Kennedy and Kerry. Are they past the threshold for age or wisdom? How many old people do you plan to throw out?

I don’t think us Obama supporters should stoop to the same level we’ve seen against us, as every Obama endorser gets trashed on these boards. John Glenn is a hero, and he’s a nice pick-up for Clinton.

Why the sarcastic comment about John Glenn not having the right stuff? He is a space pioneer and an authentic American hero. He was a hero before Obama was even potty trained. I continue to be disappointed with ABC News, having slipped your standards. Let’s have a return to fair reporting.

I think this is great endorsement for Hillary. I have heard good things about this guy. My in-laws (They live in Ohio) are hard-core republicians and they like him.
Good for Hillary. Keep going and pushing you will make it through this bump. I have faith in you!!!

If Obama gets the nomination, I too will vote for McCain. Obama is getting more arrogant by the day, and that will be his undoing! I am an avid Edwards supporter and I believe he will endorse Hillary, Obama is to much about the upper class, yuppy democrat not the poor as John and Hillary are.

dionysus….do your research John Glenn was a senator for 24 years, once again an uninformed Obama follower jumping to the wrong conclusions!

Barack is getting way too cocky for his own good. I believe that this will be his undoing. ABC News, what is with the comment that John Glenn does not have the right stuff? I am offended by that comment. You should REPORT THE NEWS, NOT MAKE IT!

Seeing how the media portrays Hillary compared to Obama, I can see why Al Gore was so extremely reluctant to run for president again. The media does a great amount of Obama’s job for him by pretending Hillary has basically no strengths but only Obama has strengths, and in THAT way, always exalting Obama. If Obama becomes the democratic nominee, we must reject him. Even non-Hillary supporters think it’s horrible what the media is doing to supress everything that actually makes Hillary attractive in candidacy. She may not be trusted by a crowd people, but lying and pretending about what she’s like is just nefarious. Obama has earned nothing! We shouldn’t except him as the nominee if he is nominated! Obama was great to me, until the media started taking up his case for him, by uplifting him but by way of pretending. This was an issue for Hillary and her campaign in New Hampshire, yet she still managed to win New Hampshire. Nonetheless, the problem is still going on! Obama is winning by not doing what politicians do! The media isn’t letting him do his job!
Posted by: GT | February 11, 2008, 11:22 pm 11:22 pm
ATTENTION!!: Obama’s wins in Maine and other places are unearned! The media has done a great amount of Obama’s job for him – by pretending that Hillary has basically no strengths, and only Obama has strengths in most of the publicity. If Obama gets the nomination, those who supported Hillary should refuse to accept Obama as the nominee!! Then if they don’t listen to us and impose him on us, at least we’ll know we behaved like people of a real democracy.

I have always been a Democrat, I like HRC, if she does not win, I will be voting Republican. I just can’t see what Obama has done to deserve the Presidency, I don’t care what he says I would like to see what his done. Just saying the war was bad before we got into it, does not make him a President.

Obama = SPOILER!!
It’s creepy how a bunch of teenagers idolize him like a he’s a rock star. And the news, seeing that teenagers are entranced by his empty rhetoric, use him to sell their program. Obama is a media product.

This is going to help her in Ohio. I have no idea why Obama is obsessed with texas. He cant win texas in the general election.
He has to beat clinton in ohio and pensyvannia, which in both cases the govenors have endorsed clinton.
I am personally tired of reading how SUPER HYPED caucus’s riddled with whoever wants to vote, independent and republican alike, and african american
states are ‘proving’ Obama is the man.
Its another campaign strategy by a guy who has more money to fund the ground operations.

Excellent endorsement for Hillary! Too bad she can’t be there with him as he makes the announcement. He’s a great man. And the quip about him not having the right stuff is lame. 1984 was a difficult year. Nobody was gonna win against Reagan back then.

This is a great endorsement! And I’m proud to see the many loyal supporters who are more then willing to see Hillary through this hard time!
Let the Obama supporters note that as much as the media likes to portray Hillary as dead in the water THEY ARE AT A DRAW!! She is far from over. She’s looking to pull in some delegates in these next races and buy her time until Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvannia!

I’m tired of the Obama’s rudeness. I’m also tired of how he dismisses Hillary at the debates…just the way he says her name and looks down his nose. He attempts to dismiss anyone that disagrees with…. I would say his ideas but he seems to be short on those but very long on adjectives. Anyway I urge all Hillary supporters to switch to McCain if she loses the nomination. At least then we will have a safe strong America. With Obama we will have negotations with Iran…and many other crazy America haters.

I agree DB, here is the Popular vote totals for Hillary and Obama as of Feb 6th from CNN
Hillary Clinton Barack Obama
8,823,097 8,294,209
She still leads him by roughly 530,000 votes.
No one in the media or Obama mentions this fact

Day by day, Obama’s arrogance shows! He’s so sure of himself and seems to enjoy the adulation of the young voters that see him as a new JFK. But what have he done for the few years being a senator?
Compared to Hilary….NOTHING! I just wished that his new found success goes to nowhere and one of these days, he’ll wake up defeated by a person who really deserves to win…..HILARY CLINTON!

This election definitely dividing Democratic party. If Obama become the nominee then I have to vote John McCain. He is a good man, but he is not an angel as media present him. He doesn’t have any military experience to be the commander in chief, he doesn’t have any international affairs experience, so I can’t just select him cause he can give good speech. I suggest he waits few more terms then try again, I will have much more confidence to vote for him (if he is a good and honest candidate)

If Obama got the nomination. I definetely will vote for Macain. Obama wont be a good leader. he will be a god talker. Now he becoming arrogant. I am a 100% supporter to Edward. I guess he will support to Hilary. Edward will be in Hillary`s cabinet. that`s for sure.I still thinking all media institutions except very few polishing Obama`s apple.COMMON Hilary !!!! Go!!! GO!!!! we are with you…..God bless America……

I agree with shawn. Obama don’t have any military experience to comman our military. He needs to learn lot more about international affair. I agree he can energize young people, but he needs to energize the economy. In senate he did not bring any strong bill yet. He talks about not voting for Iraq war. Honestly, as an American I thought it was very disloyal of those senator who did not vote for Iraq war. At the end I can tell that much, only way I will vote for Obama (if he is the nominee)if Hillary support him just for the sake of Democratic party.

“… a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany … and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama” – Barack Obama Lebanon, New Hampshire.

I laugh at anyone that says Barack Obama is too much upper class. Both Edwards and Clinton are uber rich. The only difference between the two are that Edwards, like Obama believe that there is no reason to accept PAC of Federal Lobbiest money, which I wholeheartedly agree with.
When you see the amount of pharmaceutical money that HRC is getting, no wonder she wants Healthcare mandates. That way the healthcare industry can have more money then ever. I’m surprised at the amount of HRC supporters that think her plan is free and like socialized medicine in the UK.
I’d hope that one day, her followers would wake up and look at what her healthcare plan really is. Number 1 it won’t ever pass congress, and number 2 it doesn’t do as much as either Edwards or Obama’s plan to reduce costs. It’s a joke people, it’s spin from her campaign to make people think that so many people would be left out if it wasn’t mandated.
Plain and simple, if you are strapped from paycheck to paycheck, you’ll be choosing her plan over food, and that’s just stupid.

I’m not settling for the pro-war candidates like Hillary that the Democratic Party establishment is trying to force on us. Obama has proven himself to be a leader full of charisma, intellect, vision, hope, and a drive to CHANGE politics for the betterment of the nation. He is attracting liberals/progressives, moderates, disillusioned conservatives, Republicans, and independents.
8 years of GOP rule is enough. We can’t afford to risk losing a presidential election again. The people don’t support her, don’t want, don’t like her, and won’t vote for her come November. I know I won’t! Can’t she take a hint? Democrats don’t want her.
Obama is a uniter. He’s winning red states! He is bringing more people to the Democratic Party. He will help us not only win the White House, but also enlarge the Democratic majorities in both the House and Senate, something Hillary can’t and won’t do.

And Obama has no shot in he!! of winning red states going up aganist
Mc Cain. California, New Jersey, Massachuetts, New York, New Mexico, Florida, Michigan and Arizona are all must wins. Must wins for the DEMS and Obama has won none. Not one has Obama won.
Obama can’t be president without winning these states and he has proven he can’t. And Hillary won red states Tenn, Okal and Arkansas which is great but without the blue states she already won, no shot at the WH. None. Go back in history and see how DEMS won in the past? The must wins, Obama has lost.

Having a member of you family die of cancer is horrible. Three of mine died hat way. That is why I support health care for everyone.
My uncle never bought health insurance for his family. He was a cheap S.O.B. and my aunt paid the price. She died of colon cancer last year. If Senator Clinton’s plan was in place my uncle would have had to cover his family. And my aunt would be alive today. She left behind six kids. And they have never been the same.
Covering everyone is the right thing to do. People like my jerk uncle would be forced to do the right thing.
I guess Obama hasn’t thought of situations like my aunts. He leaves 15 million uncovered. I would never vote for a candidate that would leave so many people uncovered. Hillarys plan is affordable for everyone. And her plan helps those that need help.
Posted by: C DEPP | February 12, 2008, 5:32 am 5:32 am
Nobody has worked harder or longer to improve health care than Hillary Clinton. In Arkansas she improved rural health care. In D.C. she created the SCHIP Children’s Health Insurance program which now covers six million children.
And if it weren’t for republicans like you who spent over 50 million to stop health care for everyone, every American would have healthcare now. How many people like my aunt have died because they had no health care? Shame on you.

Another life-long Democrat who will not vote for Obama if he is our nominee. I love America too much to take a chance on him. Look what the last 7 years has brought us with a President we took a chance on! We liked him too, he was charismatic, and talked the talk. Wake up America, experience does matter.
And for not debating, there has only been one debate where we got a one-on-one between the candidates to compare them side-by-side. If Obama really wants America to get to know him and compare himself with Clinton like he keeps stating, what better way than on a nationally televised debate. Obama won’t debate because Clinton blows him away in debates. His rhetoric doesn’t stand up when questions are asked. You can’t answer “I want change”, “I will bring the power back to you” to every question and look like a serious candidate. America should demand that he debate Hillary! I am also tired of his always stating if you want to know his position on something, go to his website. Why does he do this I wonder? I think its because he can’t remember what his handlers have written as his positions. Wake up America before its to late!

I completely agree with so many of the comments above. The media and so many Obama supporters try to convince us that he is the best candidate and he will bring much needed change. How is he going to do this? We hear his lofty dreams (in an attempt to be like JFK) but where is the substance to these dreams? And I find it ironic that so many people were angered when Hillary mentioned that LBJ helped Martin Luther King and yet who does Obama turn to for help? Teddy Kennedy! Can’t get much whiter than Teddy and his family and yet that is ok. Why? I thought it was hilarious when the Kennedy’s and Oprah came out in full force for Obama in California and Massachusetts but it did them no good. Hillary won and yet we hear very little about that. I have always voted as a democrat but if Obama gets the nomination then I will vote republican. My conscious will not let me do anything else. Our country deserves a true Commander in Chief not a great pretender….

The Obama supporters will no doubt trash Glenn, say he was bought off, or claim something else on why he endorsed Hillary. According to them all Obama endorsers do it because they want to and all Hillary’s endorsers do it because they “have” to.

I think the Clinton supporters might be getting a touch too defensive. I saw a couple people trashing the endorsement – as I’ve seen Clinton supporters trashing Obama endorsers. But then the long littany of 1) Obama is too arrogant (confused that Obama and ABC aren’t the same person), or 2) Obama is just mean (confused that Obama himself isn’t posting on this blog).
If this is any indication of what four years of Hillary would be like – constantly reading blogs with such messages defending her (and I do think it would be like that) – then yet another reason to not nominate her.
I did my part earlier today, here in Virginia.

Posted by: Satish | February 12, 2008, 1:56 pm 1:56 pm
I just saw former Senator Glenn on MSNBC and he was talking about why he endorsed Senator Clinton. He said she was the most experienced person for the job, she will be ready to lead America on day one, she is a great person, she has great ideas and plans to put America back on track.
Former Senator Glenn went on to say that he has known Hillary a long time and has worked with her in the past and she is a fine leader. And he has seen her grown into that role.
And for all of you out there who have a problem with Senator Clintons vote on Iraq, he set the record straight. It was George Bush that got us into Iraq. And only him. Bush broke a trust with Congress.
And by the way all you Obama people,
Obama was not even in the senate to cast a vote on Iraq. But he gives the impression he was. That is like me saying I was against the war so vote for me for president. I was not in the senate to cast a vote and neither was Obama. Soldiers are fighting and dying and Obama is using Iraq as a issue to get into the WH. And he is not telling the truth about it. Shame on Obama for not telling the truth.
Posted by: C DEPP | February 12, 2008, 2:00 pm 2:00 pm
Besides he states this in an interview about Hillary’s Iraq vote:
“I think what people might point to is our different assessments of the war in Iraq,” Obama said at the time, “although I’m always careful to say that I was not in the Senate, so perhaps the reason I thought it was such a bad idea was that I didn’t have the benefit of U.S. intelligence.”
But this morning, Obama attacked Clinton head-on for her initial support of the war, and even accused her of trying to “revise history” on the vote.
In fact, Obama’s Senate voting record on Iraq is nearly identical to Clinton’s. Over the two years Obama has been in the Senate, the only Iraq-related vote on which they differed was the confirmation earlier this year of General George Casey to be Chief of Staff of the Army, which Obama voted for and Clinton voted against. Just last week, in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Obama conceded that his position on the war is not the “polar opposite” of Clinton’s.

Trashing a American hero is alright with you? And we should just keep quite. It is not alright with us. There are so few heroes left.
And if Obama gets in there, there will be a flood of blogs on fire with his failures in office quicker than a blink of a eye. Don’t believe all the press momentum garbage. It is real voters that go to the polls. The voters will decide who will run from the DEM party, not the media and not Obama. There are millions and millions of voters that are inspired by Senator Clinton. And have and are going to go to the polls and vote for her.
And you have been reading the wrong polls. The polls that I have seen say opposite. You can see here on this blog that allot of people would rather kiss a frog on the lips than vote for your cult God.
Wake up to the facts. Hillary has more delegates and more people have gone to the polls to vote for her than your god. By more than half a million. Get a grip on reality.

C DEPP – no, trashing a hero isn’t okay with me, and I posted my response to that near the top of this thread.
But it was something like two posts trashing him, which ABC has removed, and quite a few responses about Obama, Obama supporters, etc. That’s why I say it comes across as maybe a little defensive.
And not to get into a tit for tat argument, but I’ve seen far more posts trashing those who endorse Obama. Maybe I’m wrong, and I’m a little defensive, too. But that’s how it seemed to me.

A hero supporting a hero.

I have been a Democrat, active volunteer, donor etc. for over twenty years. I will not be part of the party if Obama is the nominee. I have thought long and hard about this. Reading the news daily, seeing the news daily, knowing that Obama is never questioned/scrutinized at all by the media is extremely disturbing. I do not like all the manipulation and propganda surrounding his campaign. When I read the baseless, tasteless posts written by his supporters; I am confused as to why this man is being propelled onto us. I am burned out at hearing how wonderful he is from everyone, yet there is no evidence of work that he has done in his life to back up his philosophy. Hillary has a string of evidence connecting her to working with children, education and the working class. Obama’s foot work during a campaign, is far less than my work, on my own time apart from my full time job. He is being sold to the public in the same way little Disney Pop starts are sold. I refuse to buy into it, because I know “All That Glitters (in this case, made to glitter) Isn’t Gold.” I will simply sit this out, stop contributing and become an independent. God help if he wins, because the Republicans will win.

I think all Clinton supporters should jump this Democratic ship if Obama gets the nomination. There is nothing patriotic about giving one candidate multimedia endorsements, time and credibility just because Oprah and other ABC operatives support him. There is a gang up against the Clintons by the media (who we should never trust) while there is a full promotion of B.O. Knowing that Hillary has super delegates just as Obama does, but making an issue of it for Obama’s sake, because Hillary has more; is simply trying to discredit any support on Clinton’s behalf. The DNC needs to count the Mich. and Florida votes or punish all states that moved their primaries and caucuses. Not that caucuses are democratic. They are the least democratic forms of voting. School kids and people who are able to take the day to caucus are not representative of society, nor are they elected officials to hold so much power in such few hands.

Cocky means; unpleasantly proud and conceited. It is more than apt for B.O. So to whom ever Ms. Kitty was scoulding, there is nothing wrong in using the term. It is short for Peacockish. Perhaps these might put Ms. Kitty at ease; Vain, conceited, egotistical.

I totally agree with you Gina! With each passing day it seems as though Mr. BO is getting more and more egotistical. Also his Messiah complex is revolting.

Posted by: steve | Feb 11, 2008 9:41:55 PM: – “Hillary= the old ways, even half dead people endorse her, we want a new, young leader, with progressive ideas” ———— Oh yeah, and Ted Kennedy is a young stud I suppose? I’d Take Glenn, the former Marine pilot and Astronaut over Pot Belly Teddy Kennedy any day. ———————
Obama is so phony with his Change Mantra. He wraps himself in old Washington, pretends to be the heir to JFK from the 60′s, claims to have a hands off management style like George Dubya, and tells us that’s change. ——– I Don’t think so ——- We don’t need another Laz-E-Boy like Dubya, and don’t need a JFK without the wisdom tempered by combat. Don’t get me wrong, JFK and his brother Robert did great things for civil rights. But they were hands on They did not just talk a good game, they did it. —– JFK took a hands on approach, and yet still gave us Vietnam, the Bay of Pigs, and brought us to the Brink of Nuclear Annihilation with the Cuban missle crisis. If JFK was not hands on, and let his advisors have their way, the shooting war would have started in Cuba, and ended in the Soviet Union and US with Mushroom Clouds. ————- We are finally getting rid of Hands Off Laz-E-Boy Bush, listening to idiot Cheney and Rumsfeld, and don’t need another. Just say No to Laz-E-Boy Obama. He’s no Change – Been there done that, no thanks.

Hey Erin
You better do your research. Exelon ALSO is a pharmaceutical company & give Obama bunches of money; so much they have to use their employees name’s to place the donations.
John Glenn is a wonderful man. I have had the honor to meet him & his wife. Wisdom comes with age.
If Hillary does not get the nomination, I will NOT cast a vote for Obama. He has become too cocky for me. Even his wife said on Larry King people were treating him like a “God”.
NO THANKS!

Republicans wants Obama to be the democratic candidate,he is going to be eaten alive on Election Day. The news media has been soft on Obama by not saying anything negative about him. He is advertising his healthcare program as universal for everyone. Before it was not for everyone, only Hillary plan was. The news media is not talking about this flip flop.
Do not underestimate the Republicans. They have the information they need to blow Obama out of the game. There no need to use that information now. If Obama is the nominee, they are going to run their negative ads as many times as necessary. Rezko will be Obama’s racketeering Arab friend, Hussein and Osama Bin Laden will be his terrorist relatives. While the ads may not be true, it is the perception and the fear factor of another 9/11. It going to play like all terrorists will have a free pass into the USA. Remember Willie Horton 1988 that was not true either.

I saw so many deeply nasty posts everywhere by Obama supporter to bash Hillary at such a personal level, and media’s unfair treatement of Hillary, people’s feelings really hurt and many will naturally stay home in G.E if Obama finally wins the nomination. This definitely divides and harms Democratic party for a long time.
