Clinton Hauls in $35 Mill; Obama Camp Says They’ll Do Better

Kate Snow, Eloise Harper, David Chalian and Sunlen Miller Report:

Sen. Hillary Clinton said Thursday she was incredibly gratified to learn her campaign hauled in a record 35 million dollars in the month of February, despite losing 11 contests during that time.

"I was sure excited by the generosity of thousands of new donors," Clinton told reporters in Hanging Rock, Ohio. "It was really heartwarming because a lot of them sent e-mails talking about why they were contributing and it was often five, ten, fifteen dollars and they would write about how they wanted to do for their children."

But while her campaign was reveling in the news, there is word that Barack Obama is ready to out-do her with an eye-popping fundraising figure of his own.

Like Obama’s campaign, Clinton raised the bulk of the new money online.

The Senator said she believes her supporters were spurred to action when they heard that she herself had loaned her campaign money.

"When people found out we didn’t have the resources to compete and I did put my own money in it just set off a chain reaction across the country of hundreds of thousands of people saying ‘Wait a minute. We want this campaign to go on.’" Clinton said.

Clinton loaned her campaign five million dollars in late January. The loan was disclosed earlier this month. It has not yet been re-paid.

"The fact that Senator Clinton put so much of her own resources into the campaign I think was a demonstration of her commitment to her own campaign and also a signal to her supporters that she needed their help," said veteran democratic strategist Tad Devine. "And I think a lot of women heard that call and they responded and that is part of success they have had in recent fundraising."

The haul was more than double what the Clinton campaign raised in Januaryits previous record for one month.

Of the 35 million, campaign officials said 30 million came from online donations. The money included donations from more than 200,000 new donors.

On average, people gave about one hundred dollars to the Clinton campaign, but there were also donations as small as ten or twenty bucks.

Obama’s campaign has also relied heavily on a strong base of internet donors.

In January, the Obama campaign raised a record 36.7 million dollars, in large part on the internet.

"These are people who are committed to candidates because they believe in them," said Devine. "They are contributing low dollar amounts not high dollar amounts."

That, he said, is why Clintoneven in the face of a series of losses and dire predictionswas able to keep fundraising.

"In the past you had to succeed to draw the money that was built on that access and political success. But we are in a different age now," Devine said.

On a conference call with financial supporters Thursday, Clinton Campaign Chairman Terry McAuliffe said the campaign had raised in excess of 167 million dollars to date.

"We have the resources to play in Texas and Ohio next week and beyond and go all the way through to the end," McAuliffe said in an interview with ABC News.

Indeed, by the time that conference call began on Thursday, the campaign had already launched several new television and radio ads in Ohio.

McAuliffe confidently predicted victory.

"What Hillary’s gonna do is she’s gonna win this nomination," he told supporters on the call.

"There are 35 million dollars worth of people who have skipped dinners, not taken medications so she can do this," he said.

"The only thing that tempers Senator Clinton’s enormous victory in terms of fundraising is the fact that her opponent has probably done even better," said Devine.

In fact, shortly after the Clinton team released their big number, a spokesman for the Obama campaign said their fundraising haul for February would be significantly higher.

Democrats familiar with the Obama campaign’s fundraising operation told ABC News his campaign is expected to have raised north of 50 million dollars for the month.

Still, when Senator Obama was asked about people writing Senator Clinton’s political obituary he said he would not count her out.

"Remember New Hampshire?" Obama askedreminding everyone of the surprising victory Clinton scored there after everyone expected Obama to win.

"If you read the press you would think this thing is over," said Clinton senior advisor Harold Ickes on the finance conference call. "We’re a long way from that."

KEY QUESTION: How much onhand debt does the campaign have. On january reports the campaign was about $9M in debt, indicating alot of loans had been taken out on General election funds. While it’s great to see her finally trying the Obama Method, the fact is this month again Obama is likely beating her 2-1 (if it’s less than 48M i’ll be shocked) again proving he’s a better manager of his campaign and inspiration for the people in his party; a key component of any election victory.

Watch out…I suspect any time now the Obama campaign will release its fundraising for February, which is rumored to have doubled Clinton’s total.

Posted by: SDinIA | February 28, 2008, 12:17 pm 12:17 pm

With 24 million being poured in, she can get her $5 million back that she loaned to her own campaign with interest. It’s win win!
So don’t feel too bad about losing the nomination. Hill.

Where is this money coming from????Why are her tax records not open to the public????Much of their money comes from overseas and has ties to it.You will not see these or the presidental records of her many trips for they were pleasure and WE paid for them.
Many of the stories coming out now are false and guess who is behind them. ????LikeI said before the Clinton’s will do ANYTHING to get back in the White House. She will never make it for a lot of us who votwd Dec will NOT vote for her. They will smear her so bad….All the things that they both did will come back to haunt her.

Honesty-It’s from peole like me. I am a Clinton supporter who will never vote for Obama.

Posted by: Nellie | February 28, 2008, 12:56 pm 12:56 pm

What I’d like to know is how many supporters this amount is based on, because Obama recently passed 1 Million individual donors. I’m guessing Hillary has nowhere near that number.

Posted by: Jake | February 28, 2008, 1:02 pm 1:02 pm

Go vote for John W. McMore-war-Bush!!! If Clinton raised 24 million Obama raised 60 million.. She has been out raised and out classed by Obama..

Posted by: Ann Hussien | February 28, 2008, 1:03 pm 1:03 pm

Honesty, you’ve been beating that same drum whereever you go. Tax filings aren’t due until April 15th. Why should politicians be treated differently than every American. Also, you seem to not know the difference between campaign funds and taxable income. Now don’t go off on Hillary and make some stupid statement like she doesn’t either, yada, yada, yada. All you are interested in doing is tearing down a good person.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | February 28, 2008, 1:04 pm 1:04 pm

Clinton supporters who wouldn’t vote Obama and Obama voters who wouldn’t vote Clinton need to go ahead and jump on the McCain train. I’m sick to death of listening to personality cultists whining about not getting their way. If Democratic values and the make-up of the Supereme Court are less important to you than the career of some politician you don’t even know, you’re hardly what I’d consider a ‘Democrat.’

I came to the conclusion this week that no matter which one of the candidates win it is going to be so much better for our country.. Call me a “dreamer” but I wish we could all stop picking apart Obama and Clinton and start focusing on how we can spread the word that it is time for new ideas in Washington… all of this arguing and slandering of our least favorite Democratic candidates is so counter productive.

Im one on MILLIONS who have donated to Hillary!! I will keep doing so until she wins!!! GO HILLARY!!!

Posted by: Ray | February 28, 2008, 1:15 pm 1:15 pm

Ray, you may be donating for a looooog time because Hillary probably won’t win till WV. Those people are a little off. I just hope that Hillary has the sense to do the best thing for her party, and that is bow out after the March 4th primaries. Obama 2008!

Posted by: pt | February 28, 2008, 1:27 pm 1:27 pm

I also have been donating and will keep on donating.Go Hillary

Posted by: Bishop | February 28, 2008, 1:35 pm 1:35 pm

Ray,
Millions of people have not donated to the Clinton Campaign. It’s probably much less than that. The majority of people who have donated to her campaign have already donated as much as they can in the primaries ($2,300). If Hillary did have millions of people donating to her campaign, she would be outdonating Obama by a large sum.

Posted by: Jess | February 28, 2008, 1:51 pm 1:51 pm

Excuse me, I meant she would be outraising Obama, not outdonating him.

Posted by: Jess | February 28, 2008, 1:52 pm 1:52 pm

Man…that’s a rough dollars to wins ratio.
But hey, at least Dunkin Donuts is doing great.

Posted by: Jon | February 28, 2008, 1:54 pm 1:54 pm

Given her reliance on wealthy high roller donors and that she is seeking now what Obama knew to seek all along (those priceless million ordinary citizen donors giving $5 who can be tapped again and again) I wonder how much of it is general election only funds, especially given her poor track record of playing by campaign finance rules.

Posted by: SE Croft | February 28, 2008, 1:55 pm 1:55 pm

Nellie says about the source of the suspect funds: “It’s from people like me. I am a Clinton supporter who will never vote for Obama.”
Maybe. But its also from Dittoheads and other on the right who want HRC in November. Hear’s the slogan being used -
Keep her in it, so we can win it.
And Westie, why you so defensive about the tax returns from last year and the year before. You know something that we don’t? I mean the Clinton’s never bend the rules or walk the edge, so everything should be just fine.

Posted by: The Commander Guy | February 28, 2008, 1:56 pm 1:56 pm

I suspect the Clinton camp has been touting a little exaggerated figure for weeks now, with regard to on-line spending.
While the front guys say its been a million a day, the Clinton fundraisers who handle incoming contributions have been referenced telling media outlets they’re concerned, because they only see about half of Obama’s million/day fundraising.
Further indication there could be some truth stretching here: we all acknowledge that March 4 is seen inside the Clinton campaign as a fight for survival, right? Check out ad buys thus far in the two big states. Obama is outspending her. If she needs these states, and has the money, why not match Obama’s ad buys?

Posted by: Paul | February 28, 2008, 2:11 pm 2:11 pm

Oops, type – I meant on-line donations when I typed spending.

Posted by: Paul | February 28, 2008, 2:12 pm 2:12 pm

Does this mean she’s going to pay back the people she’s stiffed?
OR does her campaign want a list for the best hotels and eateries in Houston?

Posted by: JB | February 28, 2008, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

Even more reason to get Clinton’s tax returns. Why wasn’t her lie about them being hard to pull together laughed out of the room? She has an accountant. The accountant has the records. So does she. MAYBE 2007 isn’t ready, but 2006 sure as heck is. ABC News should offer to send a courier to pick up the documents and photocopy them for the Clintons. Since they are so busy and all, you know, losing a primary.

Posted by: yada | February 28, 2008, 2:14 pm 2:14 pm

Obama supporter, please resist yourself from posting anything negative about Clinton. She is a great candidate compared to Bush and McCain. Obama himself said that during Cleveland debate. Of Course, Obama is the best. But he will need all the support from Clinton camp to beat McCain (aka Bush). If you see any nagative campaigning against Obama, simply state the fact and move on. Thanks and yes we can.

Hilary Clinton has NOT LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE!
Hilary Clinton is deluding herself that amassing information is the same as amassing LEADERSHIP SKILLS!
A nation needs a LEADER; because any computer today can amass information.
Hilary can’t even run an efficient and successful national campaign.
Barack Obama, on the other hand, has been a Community Organizer, of the very people who are going to vote for him!
Also, just take a look at the Obama $250m national campaign, which is organized in a year to run intelligently, efficiently and successfully?
Senator Obama’s national campaign is HISTORIC in so many ways!
Now, that’s demonstration of LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE!

just to remind the tax-filing complaint people and those saying to not treat her differently, people have till the 15th – the tax returns being asked about arent the ones for 2007 (due apr 15, 2008), they are the ones for 2006 and earlier (obama released his in late 2007 and raised the point to sen. clinton). they have already been completed and submitted to the IRS by apr 15, 2007. that’s what is being asked for. whether thats appropriate or not, thats up to you to debate. but don’t get the dates and timeframes and issues confused.

What ever happened to common sense? I proudly support and will vote for Senator Clinton as our next President. Hillary Clinton has always stood up to answer the tough questions, and has an actual plan of action from day one.Lets focus on reality! If Barack Obama were selected, the Republicans have already started in with their smear tactics: inexperience, Muslim/radical ties, who knows what else.We cannot take a chance on losing this election! Please do not hand this term over to the Republicans so easily! At rallies for Hillary, I have heard lifelong Democrats, tell me they may have to vote Republican for the first time ever! This is out of fear of Obama’s inexperience & arrogance, not taking the time to learn the ropes and gain the necessary experience needed, there was no bigotry! There were all walks of life: old & young, wealthy & struggling, soccer moms & dads, black men & women, hispanic men & women, disabled veterans, people who have come to the USA from all over, good, hardworking people with common sense and values.Hillary is of course the right choice! Think hard, its so important! We cannot take a chance on losing this election! Please do not hand this term over to the Republicans so easily!Do you want to go though 4 more years of the same Bush/Chaney type administration?Personally I don’t think the majority of us regular people want or can handle that.We do not want another 50-100 years in Iraq. And why exactly are we there again? When will you care? When someone you love is drafted?I honor and respect our men and women serving our country with all my heart. They deserve answers as to when they will be coming home? What kind of veteran services they can expect? We need homeland security! Protection here at home! We watched as Americans were left to die in the streets during Katrina! Shameful and unbelievable! It doesn’t matter what others say, do what you know in your heart and head is right! I care in Texas

I honestly think that the democrats are getting a bad plans ahead of the main election. I think both of them MUST stop the attacks because it will benefit the Republicans at the end of the day although they don’t have any serious fight to put up so the Democrats are having a field day of attacks on themselves. Hillary must understand that old issues of her past actions in White house are beeing kept by insiders or by now being filtered for public view and we want a raw publication even if it is X-rated please. The case of Mother and Daughter’s action during the days of Bill is now a public issue and must be kept away far from the us for now. Please in God’s name pull out now that the ovation is high and stand for the VP slot than humiliation and if she can actually agree to recieve funds from overseas then we are in for a resale of America to the highest bidder just as we have seen now and the most poor are paying dearly for it. Reccession? you bet is for real and no sugar coating.

All you folks who keep supporting Hillary: thanks for another vote for George Bush.
The simple reality is that you are playing right into the trap the Republicans have set for you. Even George Bush knows that McCain won’t be able to beat Obama–that’s why he came out today with his fear-mongering attack against Obama. The Republicans desperately want to run against Clinton because they know they will win.
Now, if you dislike Obama so much that you want the Republicans to be in the WH for the next four years, then change your party affiliation and admit that you have the same sensibilities as the hate mongerers in the ‘other’ party.
If you want sanity to be restored and Democratic values to be brought back into the forefront of our American consciousness, then swallow hard, get over your hatred, and do the right thing.
You’ll feel better for it afterwards.

Half of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY still supports Hillary. Sorry but new Independent/Republicans who vote in our open Primaries are at least 64% of Obama supporters from what was last disclosed in CNN. Therefore, the REAL Democrats, the base, are on Hillary’s side. If we are dismissed we are campaigning to write her in. We already have Republicans and former BO supporters defecting onto the Hillary camp. So if we have to,WE WILL WRITE HER IN! Spread the word! Although, I believe it won’t be necessary, it looks as though Ohio and Texas will still go to her. Remember, the news usually shows BO ahead in polls or polls most favorable to him. Since they can’t tweek the polls too much, Hillary has been consistently ahead and therefore, likely to be the winner in both. She’s way ahead in Penn. Keep smiling, keep up the good work in spreading the works of the Hillary we know.

Posted by: Imahillady | February 28, 2008, 5:29 pm 5:29 pm

I totally agree with most Hillary’s supporters. She is ready on day one. But, just not for the position as a president. She is totally ready to play a supporting role on day one.
Presidents are not secretaries. They lead secretaries.
Presidents are not managers. They lead managers.
Presidents are not strategists. They lead strategists.
Presidents are political leaders who motivate people.
Presidents are visionaries.
Hillary can be a good secretary. But, we need a learder. She is a fighter. But we need a motivator. She works hard. But her vision does not resonated with people.
She needs to learn how to excite people. She needs to stop trying to be the smartest girl in the class, which, by the way, could very well be true. But she needs to know there are always people who might have slightly better idea just by chance.

There is a growing group of Obama supporters who are starting to be turned off by his campaign style. The change bit was ok in the beginning but now we are looking for something more. Nader is becoming a welcome change.

Yeah for you Doug – come on people, why can’t you see what is right in front of your nose – read Dougs comment again! I guess all of these highly educated young people aren’t so smart after all huh? I thought the economy was number one on our minds, I know it is on mine, and it should be on the young peoples too – after all one of these days they are going to be looking for jobs – lets hope there are some to be had for all their education, especially if Obama wins. I don’t understand the little people, and the middle class – not to mention the hispanics (so much for loyalty I guess) – as Obama is known to favor raising taxes, and obviously relates to the higher income population. So whats wrong with the rest of the voters – look at what Hillary has done for us and what I hope everyone in Texas and Ohio will stop and remember before voting. Or maybe they don’t mind being told in advance who to vote for…. I’m for Hillary and I was one of those who helped her raise that 34 million. Every time I watch the news and read these political columns I see how little Obama really knows about in which direction this country should be going.

Posted by: Sam | February 28, 2008, 5:32 pm 5:32 pm

What’s that song? – Anything you can do, I can do better? Obama and his campaign are starting to sound a little too cocky for many potential (but not committed) Obama voters out here. And the sanctimonious rhetoric aimed at Clinton supporters who have yet to give in to an Obama nomination and who threaten us if we don’t vote for Obama is even worse. Kitty, take a look at your own vitriol. It is what’s turning Clinton supporters away from Obama.

Posted by: mmhunt | February 28, 2008, 5:33 pm 5:33 pm

Hillary doesn’t have any experience. She says she does OVER and OVER and OVER but she never explains what her leadership experience was. I know she’s failed at things. But what political things has she accomplished, or in the case of the vote to go to war, gotten right?
Hillary supporters have no business saying they will not vote for Obama. He hasn’t waged a snippy, negative, race and gender baiting campaign. The great sin that Hillary supporters accuse Barack of is that he ran for president at all, usurping what they view as her turn. That’s not a reason to be mad at anyone but yourselves.
The party is the Democratic Party. Not the Clintoncratic Party.

To those who critize Hillary regarding her tax returns: You may not be aware of this but because Bill is a former president, the Clinton’s cannot just put any old information out there. It must all be reviewed… right up to George Bush. And, she has indicated that she is going through the process. Ever applied for a passport? I’ll bet you had to wait more than a week to get it!

OPENMINDED; Good for you. You do sound like a decent person. This is not anger, it’s a stand against injustice. I have been a volunteer in public service, working to help those less fortunate because it is what I was taught. I am now a teacher. What I do know and understand is the fact that BO is pushed by a Republican owned media and therefore he does not represent a just run for office. He has had far more advantages money wise, absence of scrutiny and campaign promotion by the press. Therefore, the injustice, being clear; I will choose my candidate as I see fit, considering that half of us have chosen Hillary, we should not be dismissed over the other half. The other half consisting of Independents/Republicans who voted in OUR primaries…..

My vitriol? For pointing out the Republicans fear running against Obama more than Clinton? How is that vitriol? It is fact.
My vitriol? For questioning how any democrat who actually believes in the democratic principles could even consider voting for the continuation of the republican policies that have driven this country to its knees simply because Hillary Clinton is not the candidate?
And, yeah, I don’t think the animosity toward Obama has anything to do with his experience, because he has enough experience to run the BEST presidential campaign we have seen in a long time. That shows managerial skill, people skills, logistics skills, financial skills, judgment, etc., everything you need in a president. Compare that to the absolutely mismanaged campaign of Mrs. Clinton and tell me again who has relevant experience. But you won’t, because if you scratch just below the surface of your argument, this isn’t about who has the most experience at all.

Imahillady,
Now the press is secretly tweaking polls in order to show Barack ahead? All of the press? In agreement? As part of the largest conspiracy ever?
The word you’re looking for is “delusional.” Look it up.
If Hillary supporters want to see every issue that Hillary cares about go down in flames, they should keep dragging this thing out and cause a floor fight or threaten to vote for her in the general as a “write-in.” She can’t win in pledged delegates, and if you think it will look like anything other than reversing the will of the people to nominate her over Barack via Superdelegates in Denver, you’re delusional. It’ll make 1968 Chicago look like Hands Across America.
You want to see her agenda pressed? Get a Democrat elected and keep the party together. She could well be majority leader in 2009 or 2011.
The only cult of personality in this campaign are the Hillary supporters who are unjustifiably angry that her turn to be the candidate was usurped. The last candidates to run on that platform? Dole and Mondale. We all see how well that went.

One other thing.. the general election involves these people known as independents. Wouldn’t it make sense to nominate a candidate who appeals to them rather than a candidate who turns them off? Wouldn’t it be wise to not nominate the candidate with a 53% negative rating? Do you know who the last candidate to win the presidency was with that high of a negative?
No one.

I wouldn’t be surprise if most of the money Clinton claims for the month is coming from her own bank account just to make everyone believe that donors still believe in her – who would be so stupid as to support a campaign that is so badly managed.

Posted by: Jeffrey | February 28, 2008, 5:51 pm 5:51 pm

To whoever said half the Democrats support Hillary, consider this from the American Research group:
In our final survey conducted February 17 and 18, 43% of likely Democratic primary voters said that Clinton was the only candidate they would vote for in the primary or that they preferred her over the other candidates, and 46% said that Obama was the only candidate they would vote for in the primary or that they preferred him over the other candidates. A total of 27% of likely Democratic primary voters said in this survey that they would never vote for Clinton and 15% said they would never vote for Obama.
I suspect that final line says a lot about which group of folks are the more open-minded.

Who cares. That is more than enough money to run an election, in both cases. It’s getting quite ridiculous. Why don’t they tell people to donate like this to worthy causes and make it in the candidates honor or something. Come on! Geez.
Way back when Jimmy Carter ran, a person didn’t need a bazilliontrillion dollars to run for president. Seemed like they actually talked about issues and the media was much more neutral.

Posted by: Getting Ridiculous | February 28, 2008, 5:57 pm 5:57 pm

Larry,
Way to trivialize and deflect the truth, but yes, the fact that Barack Obama went from double-digits behind the entitled Hillary Clinton and now outpulls her in almost all venues does qualify as experience, because it is a visual and auditory reflection of a successfully managed campaign. The fact that he has been able to make up a huge deficit in money and media coverage to now lead in most polls is a tribute to strategic planning and excellent judgment.
Just remember, when Obama was doing grass root organizing, Hillary wasn’t even planning a campaign beyond Super Tuesday. What does that say about her judgment and planning ability? And then, when she finds herself behind, she lets lose her husband and plays the gender card and becomes alternately shrill, angry, motherly, strident. Not only can she not run her campaign, she can’t even manager her own emotions.

More actual data from American Research for those of you who seem to think the media is manufacturing the support for Obama:
During the course of the campaign in Wisconsin, Clinton lost 14 percentage points of strong support (close to a 25% drop) and Obama gained 18 percentage points of strong support (over a 64% increase). Also, Clinton’s strong negative increased by 10 percentage points while Obama’s increased by 6 percentage points. That is political momentum for Obama.

In case you want a second poll–for all of you who seem to be in denial about the way the average Democrat is leaning; this is from the Rasmussen report:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows Barack Obama opening a nine-point lead over Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. Obama now earns support from 49% of Likely Democratic Primary Voters while Clinton attracts 40%.
That’s a drop of 3points for Clinton in one day.
You can live in denial all you want, and you can threaten to pick up your votes and go to the dark side, that is all up to you; however, the facts are the facts–and the facts are that even among only democratic voters, Obama is gaining momentum.

Kitty – I haven’t said I won’t vote for Obama. I did say that it was a possibility and that sanctimonious comments aimed at people like me were turning me away from Obama. And what do you do? You jump to the defensive once again. Let me tell you a few things about your candidate that have been a cause of concern for me for some time. His message is anti-corporate but his actions in taking significant donations from these same corporation don’t reflect his rhetoric. He has taken more money from Big Pharma than any other candidate, he has taken huge sums from the coal and nuclear energy industry (dirty energy)and in return he has weakened legislation that was meant to protect his constituents in Illinois. These are facts, and they are on the record if you will look beyond the Obama web-site. These are some of the reasons I have a big problem with his message. Quoting MSNBC from last October “Even though Obama takes broad swipes at Washington with a special-interest tar brush, even he gets spattered when it comes to the energy industry”. I didn’t trust Bush when he promised a new more unified Washington, so why should I trust a democrat saying the same thing. Obama’s actions do not match his rhetoric and that is cause for concern. Voters shouldn’t be chastised because we’re not getting in line to drink the kool-aid without questioning what’s in it first.

Gee, all that money and the economy stinks. One wonders what Obama supporters do for a living? I guess republicans go to work so democrats can sit in auditoriums, throw blood at marine in San Francisco, and send money to media darlings. This will go down as the most bias election campaign in history. Let us remember, Obama won his senate campaign in Chicago through the corrupt politics so well known — his campaign manager, David Axelrod and his honcho went after his opponents divorce records. That is right. This man who walks on water actually hangs out in the sewer. He is the most liberal and divisive politician, and he has become a cult.

Obama says he has grassroots support, but I did not receive any email/phone-call/mail from his office. It is probably because I live in California and his office decided not to spend much money in California.
People are looking for a fresh face and started supporting Obama. But do we really know who he is? I reviewed several websites and his profiles, but I still cannot tell any details about his issues and agenda. He did not even state his favorite movie. It said “none stated”. And it seems most sloagans and inspiring words he recited were borrowed from somebody else.

The best evidence of Obama’s readiness to lead the nation is the ability with which he has run for president. After all, what is more difficult, complicated, or challenging than getting elected president? What other life experience better illustrates one’s qualification to hold the office than a manifest skill in seeking it. For anyone who has ever been elected president, the race that sent them to the White House was the single most important event in their lives and dwarfs any other experience they might have had before running. — D Morris, former adviser to Pres Clinton

Posted by: Deb | February 28, 2008, 6:21 pm 6:21 pm

Supporters of Senator Clinton: at least don’t pretend that if she loses, you are voting for the Republicans in order to save the country from Obama’s inexperience. And don’t pretend that you’re doing so because of his (extraordinarily) negative campaign, which in your heart of hearts, you know he hasn’t run. And I can’t imagine that you think their policies are so far apart that you can’t vote for him.
If Clinton supporters do not vote Democratic in the general, it will be purely out of spite. In large part, the root of this spite will be that Clinton supporters will feel like the country is rejecting the worth of women. Let me be clear: I, and most people I know, was entirely prepared to vote for Clinton before Obama came around. Unfortunately for Clinton, he happens to be the right person at the right time in America (much as Bill Clinton was when he won). This is NOT solely a referendum on gender relations in America, and this election is not just a means for righting injustices that women, or you personally, have suffered.
One last thing: Senator Biden, Senator Dodd, and Governer Richardson each have more first-hand government experience than Clinton and Obama combined. Clinton beat out all of them. So please don’t attribute it all to sexism because a less experienced candidate is now beating Clinton. This is just Obama’s time. I know many Clinton supporters will have a difficult time believing that because of their passion for their candidate. But at least respect the fact that most of the country feels that way. Lets focus on the big picture, and get out of Iraq, improve health care, revive our economy, and improve our world standing with a Democrat in the White House.

Statistics are numbers; they aren’t media. They come from the people. I don’t see where you are coming from. And since the number of people who are supporting Obama have been rising steadily for a while, even after the mindless masses have had the opportunity to watch both Hillary and Barack live in 20 debate, how can you say these numbers are smoke and mirrors?

Posted by: Tika | February 28, 2008, 6:25 pm 6:25 pm

The amount of money raised by both candidates is extraordinary. The best news here is that Americans are engaged in the political process. Come March 5th, one group of supporters is going to be disappointed…but to suggest voting for McCain if their candidate is not the nominee is ridiculous. I will be disappointed if my choice is not the nominee, but there is no way I would cast a vote for McCain. Regan unraveled the New Deal, Bush has taken this country back to the McKinley era. Do you really think McCain is going to do anything about education, the environment, or healthcare? Do you really want more soldiers to die because your candidate is not the nominee?
Whether it is Obama or Clinton, it has to be a Democrat in 2008! Don’t let sour grapes hand the election to someone who has no interest in the progressive agenda.

Can some of the Hillary supporters tell me why you are so angry? Let me guess. Because you think all men are evil?
Look at how many supperdelegates signed up for Hillary at the beginning. Are you sure those are all women delegates? Are you sure she did not get the support she needs within the democratic circle?
She had the perfect opportunity and was extremely well supported among democrats. Yet, she simply squandered the great opportunity. She had the entitlement mentality and felt she deserved the presidency. Well, nobody deserves the presidency. She has to show she is worthy people’s support. This time, her luck runs out and she just met a much better opponent.
She ran an extremely loosy campaign. She has been, frankly, a crying baby. I am not interested in voting for a crying bady as a president. If she wants my vote, show me she is worthy.
By the way, don’t give up, if you really want a woman to become the president. She is not the only woman politician who has the potential to become the president and she may not even be the best one. There are several woman governors who are rising stars. In a few years, they will be ready.
And, I won’t be suprised if Obama choose a woman running mate (but not Clinton).

Ask West Virginia if they want to vote! I’ve donated several times to Hillary’s campaign. We believe in her because she has the knowledge, the ideas and solutions, the experience, and she has a work ethic none of the candidates can match.
She won the big states, New Hampshire when the media doomed her, and she even won Massachusetts despite Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, Ma state senators who persuaded an inexperienced Obama to run. They preened him and propped him up with their networks and influence. On his own, people would have been saying who is this guy? He is full of rhetoric and empty of substance except what he has copied from others.

People are stupid enough to believe those numbers and jump on the bandwagon of what everybody else is doing. There are some people who DO research the candidates and make their own decisions. If you ever look at those polls they will poll 1000 people and that is where those numbers come from. That is not the consensus of the entire country, just a sampling of an area.
Polls can also be skewed to reflect whatever the person takes the poll wants you to believe and people are dumb enough to fall for it.

I agree with Ricky and some of the others re the ‘democrats’ who refuse to vote for Obama if he is the candidate. It isn’t because of his experience (or lack of it), because he has experience and he demonstrates judgment every day. And it isn’t because he is running a more dirty campaign than anyone else, because, let’s get real, all politicians do the same dirty tricks. This argument just cancels itself out.
There’s more going on in the mind of folks who WON’T vote for the democratic candidate (who has 99.9% of the same policies and planks as Hillary) simply because he isn’t Clinton.

Nice job Rose.
I will also add that we Clinton supporters will be voting and campaigning for John Mc Cain. Ever wonder WHY Mc Cain doesnt MENTION clinton anymore? Just Obama?
I have already contacted the Mc Cain camp. I am organizing Clinton supporters for Mc Cain .
Mc Cain is VERY liberal. He has STRONG ties to Clinton. He is going to come after the Clinton voters. And he will WIN.

SF for Hillary | Feb 28, 2008 6:30:59 PM
Yes, I think everybody is worried and there are very good reasons: a divided party can not win. We are worried the negative campaign of Hillary helps nobody but repulicans. We are worried that Hillary damages her own reputation so much, she will no longer be effective to even unite her own supporters.
As you can clearly see, she has successfully divided the democrats and made us fight against each other. If she really has a sense of common good of democrats, she should quit now. If she does not, she risks being “rejected and denounced” by democrats. Her only thread that is still hanging her candidacy is that she is a woman candidate.
But, let’s face it. She is not the only woman politician. Soon, everybody will realize it was a mistake to stick with her because there are better woman politicians who are better positioned to win and who are less divisive.
Hillary’s lose is inevitable and, frankly, no big deal. Her lose gives way to the rise of other better woman politicians.

My concern is this money coming from to Mr. Obama and Miss Hillary. I count 70 million dollars for both of them and it just keeps on pouring in.
People out here are losing their homes, losing their jobs to companies that are leaving. The gangs are killing each other and us. Some of us are just hungry cause we are the wrong what ever to quallify for food.
Just who is it that can afford to drop so many millions of dollars; Month after month.
Don’t say it’s the “collections of the poor”. That duck don’t even quack any more let alone fly.
Is it the Chicoms like with Mr. Bill on his second election?
There is a stinch and a stain from the House of the Democrats and it’s time we put a stop to this.
Eitgher the candidates gives us real answers or we rip it all up and start overand the next time the communists will get a say. The great patriot Joe McCarthy mustbe spinning in his grave.

ricky – Read my previous posts. I’m an independent who has been planning to vote for Clinton because her positions and her message resonate with my views of what America needs to get us out of the mess we are in. Just because I’m skeptical of Obama’s message because it does not reflect his actions does not make me a spiteful voter worthy of disdain. Your assumptions are arrogant and comments like yours and other Obama supporters have turned my potential vote even further away from your candidate. I won’t vote republican but unless Obama can explain how his huge support from Big Pharma and Dirty Energy corporations will influence his potential presidency,I don’t think I can vote for him either. Universal Healthcare and a new direction in energy use and consumption are too important to me as a voter. His words are pretty, but his actions and his corporate support don’t back it up.

To all Hillary supporters who say they will vote for McCain if BO wins the nomination: We are not fooled!!! You are GOP supporters that are trying hard to knock Obama down because you are afraid of him. I can not see a woman (NO matter how angry she may be) voting for McCain if Obama wins. She will turn her back on healthcare for her and her children, tuition, ending the war in Iraq and all the other things that he agrees with Hillary on. You will vote to take that away out of spite? You all can’t possibly be that dumb. That simply means to me that you really did NOT agree with her on the issues, you just wanted a woman in office,

Posted by: KnightCaptain | February 28, 2008, 6:50 pm 6:50 pm

Hey CommanderGuy, I believe just the opposite. In fact I have friends that are Republican’s that voted for Obama saying “Once he get’s the nomination, I vote for McCain” I think that a lot of Obama’s voters are Republican and will vote for McCain in the end. They are afraid to run against Hillary and will do anything to get Obama nominated.
Wise up people!!

Posted by: Jerry | February 28, 2008, 6:50 pm 6:50 pm

The numbers for Obama were LOW LOW LOW in the beginning, so the folks who come over to his side weren’t jumping on a bandwagon.
And if you look at the way it works, Obama will come into a state way behind in the polls and only after he hits the ground and starts talking with the people directly do his numbers begin to grow. This is what some folks aren’t understanding: people who are curious come to hear the guy and come away convinced he can change the direction of the country. It isn’t media spin or jumping on a band wagon: it is weighing options and determining who has the more compelling argument.
But it doesn’t even matter if you think that is Hillary; what is amazing is that with these two candidates having such similary platforms, it seems many are more than willing to abandon that platform and the democratic party if Obama is candidate. That goes WAY beyond preferring one candidate to another but getting behind whoever the party’s candidate is simply to effect the change we need. It is spiteful and hateful.

Hillary had no idea that her campaign would last this long. That’s why she spent so much money early on. She will never admit that she was over-confident. What’s really funny is that while she’s being too confident, she’s telling Obama’s supporters to stop having so much hope. It’s HILLarious!

Posted by: Horace | February 28, 2008, 6:55 pm 6:55 pm

the ideologue with feel-good rhetoric
I’m really amazed that the press hasn’t made more of BO’s liberal voting agenda in the Ill. and US senate. Take the example of the Born Alive Infant’s Protection Act which was unanimously passed in both the US Senate and Congress and supported by Clinton. A year later, when the Ill Senate wanted to use identical language, BO opposed it. Basically, he was voting for infanticide. This guy makes Clinton, Kennedy, and Boxer look like Right to LIfers compared to him!
For all of the deluded who are going to vote for him, think about this: BO voted present many times on many issues (basically, he refused to take a satnce), but on something so staright forward as saving the life of “preterm newborns”, he votes against it???
Why haven’t church leaders, the Clinton staff/supporters, and the press challenged the guy on this? If Clinton voted like this, she would be branded a baby-killer. Instead, BO is our new age messiah.
I don’t want to unify around this guy’s agenda in November.

Many African-American families were asked to give at least $109 to Obama’s campaign. You have churches, schools, little old women on social security, and so on, giving to his campaign. There were numerous emails saying if every one of us give this amount, he would win.

Hillary supporters need to do the math. Even if she wins Ohio and Tex by 10 points (which is unlikely)and then split the remaining delegates witch is likely to happen, she will still be down by around 70 or so pledged delegates. That is too big of a lead for the super delegates to turn around.

Posted by: Theo7272 | February 28, 2008, 7:00 pm 7:00 pm

Obama has been much more aggressive with soliciting donations from e-mail. Hillary hasn’t done that until this month. The shame of it all is that had Hillary been as agressive then she could’ve easily outspent Obama in the first months of the campaign with the combination of e-mail donors and big money donors.
I donated to Hillary, but have to give it to Obama’s campaign for their fund raising strategy. If Hillary survives the next month then I think she should be in much more competitive shape. I’m assuming her campaign now knows the value of e-mail solicitations (I hope so).
As far as supporters are concerned. The latest national polls show Obama 47% and Hillary 46%. The idea that Obama has loads more support than Hillary is ludicrous. If Hillary’s campaign gets their fundraising act together then she can easily match or top him. Think of it – Obama’s supporters have been donating for months. Hillary’s supporters have only just started. There’s a vast reserve out there if she can tap it.
4th quarter, 10 minutes left to play. My girl is behind. Can she pull it off? We’ll find out March 4th.

Senator Obama has trouble taking a stand on things that are right regardless of the consequences. He had trouble taking a stand on rejecting Louis Farrakhan, until he was pressed to take a stand. This makes me wonder what else will he not take a stand on regardless of the consequences?

Posted by: Patrick | February 28, 2008, 7:01 pm 7:01 pm

mhhunt- My post was directed towards democrats speaking of jumping ship. I can acknowledge that some independents, and perhaps a few democrats, don’t fit into the box i constructed. However, perhaps you would acknowledge the fact that Senator Clinton takes more money from “special interests” than any other candidate. That actually makes me very skeptical of the likelihood that her post-election actions would reflect the will of the people.
I am a doctor/scientist who shares your strong concerns regarding health care and clean energy. I do think that Obama is quite likely to deliver on those aspects of his platform (lower health care costs, green economy, etc). Beyond that, I am ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED that he is more likely to achieve these goals than ANY republican candidate.

I think they will make a great team Hillary needs Obama and Obama needs her in the senate. If they both put away ther ego’s for the good of the country.
They may do some great things together.

Posted by: Ron | February 28, 2008, 7:09 pm 7:09 pm

Think of the country as a whole, in the last election Dems “lost” by a very small margin. Now think of the Dems today, this race will be decided by a very small margin.
This spells out divisive. This spells out an issue with the way America picks their candidate, it’s also called democracy. Now there is no reason why Hillary should pull out, why because the media is calling Obama the front runner. If I remember the media never called Hillary when she was ahead in by far a larger spread.
Point is, the primaries are not over. And as strong as either candidate say they are, they need to put their great skills to work and pull the party together. No democrat should by using scare tactics to others warning … if they don’t vote this way McCain will win.
Now as a Hillary supporter, and IF she loses. It’s a new election and Obama will need to prove that he is a better candidate than McCain. If he can’t than I will vote accordingly. Not because of race or gender. Those are all insecure excuses for hypothetical loses. It’s foolish to think that if Obama can mimic the words of other democrats, he can win the general without bringing the party together. This is how a party loses elections.
Obama needs to be strong enough to bring us together…as he says he is, and so does Hillary. Now the counter to that is Hillary is not talking it as much as Obama, so HE needs to live up to it.
Let’s see if he wins the primaries and wins the general, then you can all praise how great he is. Until then, let America make their decision and hope that its correct.

J-
Here’s the point: the platforms are almost identical, but do you believe in the platform?
And if you do, then why do you care who carries it forward?
In fact, if you believe in the platform, then it would be even more imperative to get behind whoever is the Democratic party leader, even if it is Obama.
Because the important thing is to get the platform in place.
Yet look at how the people on this list are talking. If Hillary doesn’t win, they are willing to sacrifice the democratic platform because they don’t like a person.
Incredible.
We need the democratic platform and the democratic mentality back in the white house, and if that standard bearer is Hillary, I would swallow hard and vote for her because the platform is more important than the person.
But not you and other Hillary supporters. You pick up your marbles and leave the game.
You would doom us all because your candidate doesn’t win.
Wow. How noble.

Some folks supporting Hillary are contemplating leaving America if Obama is elected. Good for you! Congratulations!
Just curious, does this have anything to do with Hillary’s candidacy? Oh, I got it. You think she is a good manager. Are you sure being a good manager qualifies her as a good president? Are you sure Hillary is a good manager? The last time I checked, she is a rather poor manager. If you need a title to characterize her: she is a fighter. She fights with everybody, including democrats.
Do you know why Clintons are divisive and why republicans hate them so much? It is not because of their policy, mind you. Their policies are centrists policies, not liberal policies. Bill Clinton formed the Democratic Leadership Council which almost completely abondoned the traditional liberal policies. In simple words: they are moderate democrats.
They are divisive because they view everything as fights and they enjoy fighting. They win the fights because they play one group of people against the other. They do so mostly for their own reputation and ego. Hillary, in particular, wants everything in her own way and can not tolerate descending opinion. If we put her in the office, there is a real posibility that the country will have 4 more years of divisive politics.
Yah, managerial positions are simple because managers can fire employees and the employees have to listen. President can not fire American people, mind you. He/she has to lead people and be able to communicate with people, connect and inspire people. Otherwise, he/she can be fired, instead.

I agree with a lot of the sentiment on this board — I actually wonder if part of that $35 million is her injecting money in again. Remember that she counted her $5 million loan last month in her $12.5 haul.
Either way, Obama outraised her at least by $15 million. They’re saying north of $50 million. Watch for that to be even higher.
She’s gotten what she wanted with the media harping on Obama now, so she better not complain or whine anymore. They’re so used to controlling and manipulating everyone through the press, that it’s not a fun feeling when they’re actually being called out on their games.
What’s ironic is that it was the SC Carolina comments that were really the turning point in all of this. And the media made very little commentary on Bill’s words. Instead the American people were smart enough to see it for themselves.
That’s what’s different this time around. The American people aren’t letting them get away with the same old politics of personal destruction.
I hope and pray that era in our country is over. We desperately need a new change and so does our world.

If Obama gets the nomination and loses to MCCain his career is over he will be labled a spoiler in the eyes of the party. and the gop will have won one they shoud have lost.

OBAMA JUSTIFIED HIS ADVOCATION TO BOMB PAKSITAN THE OTHER DAY BY SAYING THAT THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT BUSH HAS DONE COUPLE WEEKS AGO. THEN WHY SHOULD HE ATTACK BUSH SINCE HE THINKS BUSH IS DOING THE RIGHT THING IN BOMBING AND BOMBING. OBAMA’S LIES ARE SO OUTRAGEOUSLY BLATANT NOW, HE KNOWS THAT HE HAS BECOME A”CULT” FIGURE AND NO ONE WILL THINK HE WILL LIE. JUST LOOK AT THE FACTS AND COMPARE them WITH HIS WORDS. SO BUSH IS RIGHT IN BOMBING PAKISTAN AND OBAMA IS APPROVING BUSH’S BOMBINGS WHILE DENOUNCING BUSH’S POLICY. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME OUT TO FIGURE OUT THE REAL OBAMA POLICY?

Posted by: HELPPLEASE | February 28, 2008, 7:32 pm 7:32 pm

Obama’s campaign people are averaging a 109.00 per person not that much when he has over a million donors what can you say. Thats leadership!

I am not concerned about his religion. He was young and finding himself. I think anyone who has lived can understand that growing up is hard. If that is his faith he should state it only so the republicans can get off his back.

First of all, the Democrats need to concentrate on Supreme Court Nominations. There will be at least 1 opening for the next President and it’s a liberal opening. If McCain is elected, the chances of Roe vs Wade being overturned is very high.
As a fiscal conservative but social liberal who remembers the divisiveness of the Clinton presidency, I have absolutely no desire to vote for Hillary. Actually I dislike her quite a bit. But with Roe vs Wade and Iraq in the balance, I don’t think I can possibly vote for McCain.

The woman who are supporting Hillary need to come and support the brother when it is over.

Posted by: Ron | February 28, 2008, 7:36 pm 7:36 pm

What is this world coming too?
All this divisiveness. They are BOTH Great candidates in different ways. Hillary is smart, tough and knows the dirty underside of Washington and more importantly, how to make it work. On the other hand Obama is very inspiring. He strikes a cord with people who are still angry about the 2000 election. And for all those who say he is a cultist or that he is too slick… Who cares? If he can get a DEMOCRAT into the White House again – I say great. Critics have been saying over and over what he can’t do and what he won’t be able to do… And he keeps right on doing it.
Now maybe his track record is not picture perfect. Neither is Hillary’s. I don’t care, because EITHER one of them is WAY BETTER THAN NEWLY RECONDITIONED MCCAIN.
I will admit, before he became the GOP nominee, he had alot going for him. But NOW??? He sold his soul for the nomination, and I feel sorry for him. He lost focus on what is really important. He will only be the same pathetic figurehead that GWB is.
Please people, let’s be for real.
Let’s support our choices, but once we have a nominee, whichever one that is… Let’s work together to make the NEXT 8 years something we can be proud of and Yes I’m claiming 2012 too!
If 2000 & 2004 didn’t teach us anything, it taught us this… Anger and Spite are bad, but APATHY is the worst thing for us as individuals and as a nation. Let’s get together and support Someone! I for one don’t care which of them wins the nomination… I honestly and truthfully admire them both…
Let’s all keep our eyes on the big picture… I don’t know Hillary personally but I am from NY (yes I did vote for her) and I really don’t think that she would want us to give the office to McCain over Obama. And I would like to think the same for Barak.
They each want to win. They are both competitive. But to rip each other apart and do the Republicans job for them is SHAMEFUL. This election isn’t about Hillary or Barak… It is about AMERICA and the people THEY SERVE. We should all remember… they are OUR representatives – they serve us. Not the other way around.

Someone please help me understand how you can be so adamantly for Senator Clinton, but would waste a vote with a write in or vote for Senator McCain.
Senator McCain is everything Senator Clinton is against!
If Obama doesn’t get the nomination I will vote for Senator Clinton. At one point when I was extremely frustrated I said I wouldn’t but then I realized I would be cutting my nose of in spite of my face. I hate this WAR and what it is doing to a generation of soldiers; I HATE this war for what it is doing to our ECONOMY and our DEFICIT; I HATE this war because of all the innocent lives lost here and abroad; I HATE this war because our country has lost so much respect. What I do KNOW is Senator Clinton or Senator Obama will END THIS WAR & Senator McCain WILL CONTINUE THIS WAR!
I hate that we are paying $3.50/gal for gas, I hate that more jobs are being sent overseas, I hate that the poor are getting poorer and the middle-class are sinking into despair losing their homes and jobs. I KNOW Senator Clinton and Obama will change that I KNOW Senator McCain WILL NOT!
Democrats let’s not lose all PERSPECTIVE. Senator Clinton and Senator Obama have both done negative things that can be called into action, but truth me told there is more hate and disdain amongst supporters versus the candidates.

J-
Thanks for answering the question. You support the individual rather than the platform, and will sacrifice that platform if your candidate doesn’t get the nomination.
Glad to know you are so loyal to your candidate that you will let the people of the US continue to be held hostage to the politics of the Republicans because you personally don’t like someone.
Big of you to put yourself in front of the rest of us.

Policy on what?

Posted by: Ron | February 28, 2008, 7:43 pm 7:43 pm

Are you a Democrat? If so, read on.
In the general election, a vote for anyone other than the Democratic candidate is a vote for the continuation of the current administration’s policies. A write-in campaign for the candidate who is not the nominee is a symbolic act of self-immolation, no matter which candidate’s name you say you’d write in.
Trust me, I know. I voted for Ralph Nader in 2000, hoping he’d get the 3% necessary to turn American politics into a three-party system. I am older and wiser now.
Both Obama and Clinton are running on platforms of changing the way Washington works. Somehow, the vitriol between supporters of two candidates in the same party has been fanned into a brushfire that is threatening to consume the hopes of everyone who wants that change.
I find myself echoing poor Rodney King: “Can’t we all just get along?”
Can’t we all agree that we can support the candidate we prefer, without turning that support into a threat?
Ask yourself, Hillary supporters and Obama supporters both: are you a fanatic, or are you a Democrat?

For all of you Obama supporters who think that Clinton supporters would vote for Obama just because we are democtrats you’re terribly wrong. Why would we vote for such an inept candidate and hurt the democratic party? McCain is not an evil person and I feel the country would be safer for the next 4 years. Obama would ruin the country and we would then have 8 more years of a republican in office.

Bill C gets slammed for calling obama’s campaign a ferry tale and no one wants to even exam the possiblity of a crooked real estate purchase. And as for bill’s comments i beleive that many black voters were at that time just looking for any reason to leave hillary and go to Obama so they took bills comments which when you look at them were not bas at all and used them for the reason to switch. i guess what it says to white politicans is don’t try to court the balack vote because they may turn on you no matter how much good you did.

Hillary will WIN Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and oh yes, The Presidency!
Why does Obama stay in the race? He should concede! It is CRAZY to have the media saying he is a frontrunner when he is only ahead by 100 delegates, and that does NOT count Florida, Michigan, or the Super Delegates, which she STILL leads.
Obama says he will unite Republicans and Democrats when in fact, he has divided Democtats. He needs to concede. He will not win a General Election. Please look at the voter data for a General Election across the entire United States. You can find the data on the web. He cannot win. But Senator Hillary Clinton can win, or has a chance to win. But if Obama is the nominee, it is guaranteed that McCain wins the Presidency. Another Republican in office. Yes, Obama should leave the race. We need a Democrat in office and that is Hillary Clinton.

“every body plays the fool, there is no exception to the rule” and you blame people in poorly developed countries for electing the wrong president over and over and yet, after Bush, you are all jumping on the wagon of a man who has not presented one original thought or idea on any of the significant issues facing this nation today. I have many international friends and also travel and they’re simply amused at what is going on. We claim to be the ones to blaze the trail but yet, the media, and it appears many supposedly educated people are doing all they can to with their sexist tactics to beat the strongest and most qualified candidate in the race because she is a woman.
Go on America, vote for a man who is arrogant, cocky, disrespectful to women (except his wife from what I see or if he wants something from you), dishonest, ungrateful (people of Louisana overwhelmingly voted for him and he could not be bother to attend the Black dinner there), has no thought of his own, in every debate, he says “I agree with Hillary but my idea is better” then adds two sentences like “I have told the American people I will make sure there is change in Washington” which has no substance then the audience begins to clap.
The American people think they will be seen as racist if they do not vote for Obama. Drum roll, you will be seen as racist no matter what. That is your legacy. You can do your best to stand up for what you think is right and not bow to manipulation from the likes of Obama, Jessie Jackie SR, JR, Mitchelle Obama (who looks to be desperately seeking to become the first lady)and all the other Media weaklings who are terrified of a smart, strong and savvy woman.
And for the Obama people, I agree with all those who have posted up there, I will not support Obama, I too will work for Mccain or Nader if Hillary does not win. The reason? Obama who claims to be a democrat critizes the successes of the democratic party in the primaries and has divided the party, has used dirty tactics to characterize of the best Presidents to the black as racist. He is not entitled to the White House because he is black. NO one is. He said so himself when he won his Senate seat, that the position requires experience and vast knowledge and he would not run now. I do not think in 3 years or so he has suddenly become experienced enough to run for the highest office in the nation. Simply put, he is not qualified to be the leader of the free world.
I will stop for now and accept any and all responses.

My family have lost so much because the companies they used to worked closed down. They have children and its sad!! America please do not vote for a women who is nothing but a fluke. Hillary will say anything to get elected. I urge all people in Ohio to go out and support Barack Obama. In the last month she has shown her true colors. When I watched the last debate, it really shocked me how many faces this women has. I was at one of Barack Obama town meeting and he was very specific to what he wants to do.

He has said this before unfortunately, I can’t remember excactly where and now that he has gone to Ohio he is saying it is bad and pointing a finger at Hillary. Has it occured to you that he is critizing platforms of his own party especially those of one of American’s greatest Presidents (minus his personal woes)? He is a backstabber. Vote for him if you want but I do not think Obama’s policies will bring help to you and your family. Trust me, Hillary is your best bet and you can take it or leave it.

Posted by: Salida | February 28, 2008, 8:30 pm 8:30 pm

Obama needs 56% of remaining delegates. Clinton needs 63%. Clinton can’t/won’t run again. When Obama gets close enough to the nomination, super-delegates will trend even more toward him; and he’ll offer Clinton a seat on the Supreme Court. Game over there.
Obama runs to the middle. McCain runs to the middle. “He’s Bush!” says Obama. “He’s McGovern!” says McCain. If terrorism again raises its ugly head, McCain wins. If it doesn’t Obama wins, unless McCain 527s can paint the Obamas as unpatriotic semi-Muslims.
Thus endeth the lesson.

I admire people who believe in Clinton so much that they are willing to donate to her, but I wonder when Hillary supporters will “wake up?”
Running and managing a campaign tells you a lot about a candidate – not only how consistent they are with a message, but also how they manage money.
Contrary to the way that people have been trying to paint Obama, Clinton is all talk. She said she would provide New York with over 200k new jobs. During her term, New York LOST thousands of jobs. She says she will provide Universal Healthcare, but she tried to do this in the 90s with Bill Clinton and FAILED.
I don’t understand why people keep donating to her despite the fact that she so severely mishandled her campaign money and all of the donations she received from special interests and washington lobbyists, that she had to loan herself $5M of her own money, that she ended up losing 11 straight primaries (BY DOUBLE DIGITS- at least 17 points) anyway, and that she has a knack of losing double digit leads in the polls when she actually spends the money. And please don’t tell me it’s because Obama has more money and is outspending her. That may be true now, but it wasn’t true a couple of months ago.
It’s like throwing all of your money on a race horse who not only keeps losing, but loses badly every time. When will people wake up? If she can’t manage a $100M campaign (or appoint competent people to do it for her), despite her YEARS of experience, how can she manage the U.S. economy (or appoint compentent people to do that). Why do I have feeling that she will make appointments, not based on credentials, but based on loyalty derived from years and years of being in the public spotlight?
Obama has done what he has always set out to do, whether he was 20 points down or 20 points up. His message has never changed, and he never went “ugly” despite being down 20 points in this country. He will manage the country the way he has managed his campaign. By believing in you, and me, and everyone else who isn’t represented by special interests/lobbyists. His campaign is not about getting himself elected. His campaign has always been about giving the American government back to the American people. Why not believe, for example, based on recent history, that he will inspire, motivate and mobilize the vast majority of the American public to get behind his healthcare plan so that our congresspersons (Republican or Democrat) will do the same (or risk not getting reelected). If he can turn a 20 point deficit in the polls to 20 point victories and become the front runner in a campaign that Hillary was supposed to win a month ago, it makes me believe he can do the same in November and then as President.
If Hillary has taken money from special interests and lobbyists, why do people believe that she will fight such interests in Washington?

Posted by: Ben | February 28, 2008, 8:34 pm 8:34 pm

Real Democrats realize this is a win-win and this election is actually about us–not these candidates; stop being so shortsighted–if you think McCain is going to get our economy back on track and get us some healthcare; keep dreaming. I don’t know about you but my Mother and my brother can’t wait another four years for healthcare; please do the right thing for America.

Hope: I too have been having troubles logging in. I have not ever used a swear word, not even with periods between the letters to pass through the spell checker, posted a racist or sexist comment or attacked anybody. I have politely made my points, but in one night a lot of us got knocked off and deleted. I think all of us were leaning towards Obama. Enough said. I thought that free speech appropriately worded still existed! As far as Obama’s income, have any of you done any research? He made money from his first book and received a $2.69 million advance on his second book before he bought his house. He has admitted to being a ‘bone-head’ in contacting Rezko. Rezko has even contributed to both the Bush campaigns and to Gore. In fact, he has made 46 contributions to various candidates of both parties! He likes to spread his money and hedge his bets. The advance may sound like a lot, but it is not in the publishing world. Hillary Clinton received an $8 million advance for her book. And, presumably there are royalties. Nothing shady about either one of those incomes by either person. They all know shady characters and receive ‘iffy’ contributions, but how many of them are going to keep crawling out of the woodwork?

if you count Florida and Michigan–she is ahead. In Novemeber they will be voting.

Posted by: Bonny | February 28, 2008, 8:48 pm 8:48 pm

People who say they will vote for Hillary are either really McCain supporters or are near-sighted.
I am an avid Obama supporter as you can tell from the above post, but if Hillary can somehow win this nomination, then I vote for her in November. Why? Because this country is too important to leave to McCain, who will likely get to appoint a supreme court justice in his next term. Republicans know this, and that is why, conservative or not, they will vote for McCain whether they like him or not. They know that the Supreme Court is balanced 5-4 in their favor for the first time in many years (thanks to GW Bush) and one more nomination would make it more difficult for women to keep their abortion rights (which have already been affected by the new conservative regime in the Supreme Court) or for grade schools to promote diversity. CLINTON SUPPORTERS. WAKE UP. If you want McCain to win, then do what you say you will do. I don’t like Hillary, but this country CANNOT survive with another Republican- Bush Cronie in the office so I will vote for her if she wins the nomination. I was afraid that a long-protracted race between Clintons and Obamas would make people so emotionally invested and entrenched in their allegiances that they can’t see the forest through the trees.

Salida: Since you seem to be a Hillary supporter then good for you that your candidate is now on a roll. But, I would like to ask the rather obvious question as to why she now needs to be on a roll? Assumption that everything would be wrapped up by Big Tuesday and would not need a great deal more campaigning money was being just a bit presumptious in my mind!

This message is for Liwai from China. I dont understand what are you trying to say. The fact is that I was at one of his Town Hall meeting (BARACK OBAMA) and he was very specific. I live in OHIO. Per your post you live in China. Im happy you are financially stable there. My famili is not, here in America. We have lost so much jobs becouse of NAFTA is not funny!! My two sister lost their jobs, they both have children. Its sad. I understand you like Hillary. I just can not support a women who supported NAFTA and act like is nothing. I researched this in great details and Hillary did support NAFTA. The other issue he emotional state is so not desirable. In regards to charactor Barack has been always coo, cal and colective. He is very respectfull. Im tired of all the Clinton dramas. We Americans in Ohio will come out and reject her.

OBAMA HAS TOTALLY NEGLECTED HIS DUTY ON THE OVERSIGHT COMMITTE OVERSEEING AFGANISTAN, SO HE DOES NOT KNOW THAT BUSH’S BOMBINGS WHICH HE SO APPROVED HAVE CAUSED THE GREAT RESURGENCE OF TALIBANS. ACCORDING TO AN AID WORKER in Afg, SHE HAS TO GO THROUGH MANY TALIBAN CHECKPOINTS WHEN DELIVERING GOODS TO THE COUNTRYSIDE. OBAMA CAN’T EVEN FULFILL HIS DUTY AS A SENATOR TO UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION IN AFG, HOW CAN HE UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE WORLD WHICH IS SEETHING WITH HATRED TOWARDS US CAUSED BY THE BOMBINGS. SO HE WILL CONTINUE BUSH’S BOMBINS WHILE ATTACKING HIS COMRADE-IN-BOMBINGS IN THE WHITE HOUSE? THIS HALF-WHITE CHENEY IS GOING TO BE MORE LETHAL TO OUR COUNTRY THAN THE TOTALLY WHITE ONE. CHENEY CAN’T HIDE HIS DISHONESTY AND VICIOUSNESS WITH OBAMA’S SEEMINGLY SWEET SMILES. DO YOUR COUNTRY A FAVOR BY LOOKING BEHIND THOSE PASTED-ONE SMILES.

I did not think the whole Rezko thing was an issue UNTIL I saw the picture of the lot next to Obama’s house. I assumed it was an empty lot that someone would/could build a house on. It’s really a big garden that can only be accessed by Obama’s front gate! Now why in the world would Rezko’s wife had bought that lot if it wasn’t a payoff?

For all of contributors there are plenty of books available that give accurate detail of each of these candidates. Books on Hillary are very interesting and speak alot as to how Bill Clinton’s earnings from speeches ( alot of foreigh money ) end up in their personal accounts and loophole their way into the campaign financing. I know I do not want Chinese money via the Clinton fund impacting the quality and amount of Chines product that comes here. Lead paint anyone ? What it comes down to for me is that last 8 years, my personal gain has been zero. I gave the Republicans my vote thinking my personal gain would come,,,,,nope. So in this election if you really care about who will run the show , read up on the candidates and make your decicison based on how your family will be affected. Many things I do not like about Hillary, a few things make me nervous about Obama and McCain…well, I just cannot connect to him or his policies. For me the choices are scary. But I won’t waste my vote. Obama gets my primary vote but I dont know who gets it in the end…..

Obama will win the democratic nominee and possibly the presidency. I will not help him. He will be the biggest dissapointment since jimmy carter. Hope does not solve problems. Its just a word. Hillary would be a much better president. Obama want to negoiate with terrorist and terrorist nations. It is true, there is a sucker born every minute and terrorist are pulling for Obama because they know they can fool him, lie to him and strike us in our heart. If your family earns over 50k a year; you will regret voting in Obama. He is going to tax you to death to pay for all the people too lazy to use the programs in place now for self improvement. Everyone can go to college if they are willing to work for it. No one will want to or need to with Obama and the giant government that he wants. Welfare is going to drowned our country. Obama does not have a clue. He is just a slick con man with fools that will follow him off the cliff. Not me or anyone I know. Last thing, there is a difference between book smart and common sense. Obama has neither; just slick talk. Used car salesman.

Posted by: Just say NO to "O" | February 28, 2008, 9:03 pm 9:03 pm

Dear “For What its worth”
Please describe in detail how Hillary would be better than Obama?
List of Hillary’s “Accomplishments”
- FAILED attempts to get health care for everyone.
- Went around telling people that she supported NAFTA, which has devastated states like Ohio.
- WORKED on the corporate board at Wal-Mart.
- VOTED FOR the war in Iraq, which she admits that she regrets.
- Her State LOSES thousands of jobs despite her campaign promise that she will create 200k new jobs in New York.
- Was the hands down favorite to win the nomination, but not only failed, but also neglected to have a strategy after Super Tuesday (classic case of “underestimating your enemy.”)
Also, as you will see from the exit polls, more people who are college educated and earn more than $50k per year are voting for OBAMA and not Clinton. Why? Because we believe that we won’t be taxed to death. I earn more than $50 k, but I never asked Bush for a tax cut (ESPECIALLY IN A TIME OF WAR). So repealing his tax cuts will put me back in the same position as before Bush passed those tax cuts. Will it kill me? No. Will I sacrifice a few more tax dollars so that people who earn less than $50k (ESPECIALLY CHILDREN) will get healthcare? YES. Barack is not just slick talk – he is talk AND action, and there is a reason why anyone who does their research on BOTH candidates will see that Obama is superior in QUALIFICATIONS.
# Years in Washington doesn’t = Qualified

Salida,
Please see her own book, her memoir, “Living History.”
“Creating a free trade zone in North America—the largest free trade zone in the world—would expand U.S. exports, create jobs and ensure that our economy was reaping the benefits, not the burdens, of globalization. Although unpopular with labor unions, expanding trade opportunities was an important administration goal. The question was whether the White House could focus its energies on two legislative campaigns at once [NAFTA and health care]. I argued that we could and that postponing health care would further weaken its chances.” [p. 182]
“Senator Dole was genuinely interested in health care reform but wanted to run for President in 1996. He couldn’t hand incumbent Bill Clinton any more legislative victories, particularly after Bill’s successes on the budget, the Brady bill and NAFTA.” [p.231]
hmmm…. I wonder why labor unions were so opposed to the idea back in the day? Maybe it’s because the deal NAFTA didn’t have enough protections for corporations that would do that.

GES, I saw the picture of Obama’s house and the lot next to it and thought the same thing. The other thing that stands out is the price comparison. There is no way that his house would only be $1.6M and the lot next door $600,000. I could see if the house was $1.9M and the lot $300,000. Something is fishy.

He said he is expecting and Hillary almost say she have the right amont. Do your math as the Aarons commercial advertisement, 1+1=2. Obama will raise more money, because he is based on hope. Democrats lets be realistic, OHIO.
We can not be in denial. These are the facts. Please fell free to research this information on your own.
Hillary can not win against McCain, WHY?? THE ONLY PLATFORM TO WIN THIS NOVEMBER IS THE WAR IN IRAQ, ENDING IT. HOW CAN HILLARY STAND AGAINST MCCAIN WHEN SHE VOTED FOR THE SAME THING. HILLARY SUPPORTED THE WAR. SHE VOTED YES TO SUPPORT THE WAR, PERIOD.
THE OTHER ISSUE IS NAFTA. HILLARY SUPPORTED NAFTA, THATS A FACT. PLEASE RESEARCH THIS ON YOUR OWN.
THE OTHER ISSUE HEALTH CARE. AMERICANS ARE REJECTING HILLARY HEALTH PLAN BECAUSE ITS A MANDATE. AMERICANS LIKE CHOICE. SHE SAID THAT SHE WILL GARNISH WAGES. THIS IS A FACT. SHE SAID THIS HER SELF.
FOLKS THIS IS REALITY. HILLARY DOES NOT HAVE A PLATFORM TO WIN AGAIST MCCAIN. HE WILL WIN.
THE POLLS SHOW BARACK WINNIG AGAIST MCCAIN BEACAUSE HE SAID NO TO THE WAR FROM THE START. HIS ECONOMIC PLAN ARE REALISTIC.
BARACK HAS A BETTER CHANCE. IN ORDER TO WIN YOU MUST BRING INDEPENDENTS AND REPUBLICANS TO YOUR SIDE. BARACK HAS A HISTORY OF WORKING ACROSS PARTY LINES. HILLARY IS NOT WELL LIKE AMONG REPUBLICANS. BARACK IS CARRYS THE INDEPENDENTS. IN ORDER TO WIN AN ELECTION YOU MUST BRING ALL, DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS AND INDEPENDENTS. THATS HOW YOU WIN. THIS IS A FACT.
WE DEMOCRATS MUST KNOW THAT BARACK HAS THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN AGAIST MCCAIN. WE MUST STAND BY HIM AND VOTE FOR HIM.
WE DONT NEED MORE DEBATES. WE ALL HEARD WHAT THEY STAND FOR. ITS TIME TO MAKE UP OUR MINDS AND SUPPORT BARCAK THE ONE WHO HAS A CHANCE TO BEAT MCCAIN. IF NOT THIS IS GOING TO DRAG ON TO JUNE OR JULY.
WE AMERICANS WANT PEACE AND STABILIY. BARACK HAS WON 11 STATES IN A ROLL THAT SAYS ALOT.
ALL URGE ALL DEMOCRATS TO BE AWARE OF ALL THE TRASH THAT WILL COME OU WAY. THATS OK WE ARE READY.
OHIO, TEXAS LEST STAND BY BARACK OBAMA. HE IS THE ONE WHO WILL WIN IN NOVEMBER.
BARACK IS BRILLIANT AND HE HAS NATURAL WWISDOM.

DMDNormanOk, yes, play the race card. It always works for only one group of people in this country. The others can’t defend themselves, they can’t have an opinion that is against a black man, they are seen as racist. If America does not hand the Presidency to Obama, they’re racist because the black man is owed the presidency.
This obviously does not apply to women or the fact that for over 200 years in this country and many other countries the world over, it has been ruled by men which has basically resulted in war, famine, etc all over.

No, if Hillary had own 11 straight, no one would ask him to drop out. Because, the 11 straight would not have given her any significant lead ahead of him as it has NOT given him ahead of her. If there are still more states to speak, they should be able to select the candidate. The job of president of the United States is not one at McDonalds. Both of them will have to work hard for it. No one is dropping out yet. This race is interesting, it is hard fought. No one gets it because he/she leads by 100 delegates now.

Its true Salida. Hillary supported NAFTA. Yale university resarched this information in great details. They did concluded that she did suported NAFTA. In fact they said Hillary and Bill champion NAFTA all over the USA and they both said it was one of Bills Clintons best acomplishments. Im one who will not vote for Hillary. She flip-flops an issues. Fist she voted for the war, then she acted like she was bothered when ask why?? She danced around this issue an never came clean ala Hillary style. Then she said maybe it was a wrong choice. Hillary supported Nafta now she said well maybe it was not what she thought it will be. The other issue health care. In the debate she try to say that her plan is not a mandate and Barack called her out. It is a mandate. If you dont join you will have a penalty and you will have your wages garnish. This is real. Its not working in Mass, what makes her think it will work all over the USA. The reason Americans are rejecting this health plan is becasue like the democratic party in Ohio said, Americans like choice not mandates. The last thing Im sorry Hillary has acted very all over the place. One day shes happy, the next day she is angry, defensive. She is not presidential. In contrast Barcak has maintain his ways..He has been calm and respecfull all the way. He acts and looks very presidential. Wow lots of people from Ohio. How great!!

Mrs. Rezko bought the $600,000 lot on a salary of $40,000 and $25,000 in assets. Is she “hoping” on that salary she can afford to build the $1,000,000 home? Hmm, something smells fishy. The truth is a British-Syrian billionaire bankrolled the purchase. Connect the dots, it’s really not that hard!

Hillary had no idea that her campaign would last this long. That’s why she spent so much money early on. She will never admit that she was over-confident. What’s really funny is that while she’s being too confident, she’s telling Obama’s supporters to stop having so much hope. It’s HILLarious!

Pat, the appearance is not good. But there is no proof that Rezko gained any favors from the transaction. Obama said it was bone headed on his part.
The Chicago Sun-Times, which has really crack, well connected political reporters investigated the Rezko deal for years. They could come up with nothing. If they couldn’t, I doubt there is anything further to connect.

Rezko’s wife sold her neighboring lot, which Obama had used as a parking lot, etc. and had been mowing. Rezko paid to build the iron-fence to separate the lot from Obama’s before it was sold to one of his business acquaintances.

BELATELY CBS IS FOLLOWING ABC AND REPORTS ON THE RECORDS OF BOTH CANDIDATES. TO MY GREAT SHOCK, OBAMA WHO HAS PROCLAIMED REPEATEDLY THAT HE NEVER ACCEPTED AND ACCEPTS PAC MONEY, HAS RECEIVED $1.2 MILLION FROM PACS FOR HIS SENATE AND PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN. EXOLON WHICH HAS CONTRIBUTED MORE THAN $250,000 TO HIS SENATE AND PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN HAS SUCCESSFULLY QUASHED THE BILL, EVEN A WATERDOWN VERSION, WHICH WILL PUT EXOLON UNDER CLOSER SCRUTINY. STRANGE, OBAMA INTRUDUCED THE BILL BUT LET IT DIE AFTER EXOLON’S OPPOSITION. OBAMA REALLY HAS LED ALL US LITTLE GUYS BY THE NOSES. I BELIEVED HIM ALL ALONG THAT HE DID NOT ACCEPT PAC MONEY AS I COULD NOT IMAGINE ANYONE CAN LIE SO BOLDFACEDLY IN PUBLIC. THE INTRODUCTION AND THEN CANCELLATION OF EXOLON BILL LOOKS LIKE A SUBTLE EXTORTION INSTEAD OF A GENUINE EFFORT TO REGULATE THE DANGEROUS NUKE INDUSTRY.
IS THIS KIND OF BOLDFACED LIAR AND EXTORTIONIST WE SHOULD PUT IN THE WHITE HHOUSE? JUDGING FROM AMERICANS’ CRAZINESS, PERHAPS THEY WILL. DON’T BLAME ON MY FRIEDNS THAT THEY ARE PLANNING ON LEAVING.

Posted by: Dinero80 | February 28, 2008, 10:13 pm 10:13 pm

Lynda, I doubt Yale University said they researched this but I’ll give you that nontheless. I do know from what I have researched about her, she is not going to openly critize a platform her husband and the democratic party were pushing because they inherited it and wanted to go forward. Regarding the war, Lynda, majority of Americans were calling for that war after 9/11 and when we got the intel that Sadam had weapons of mass destruction. Hell, I would have volunteered if necessary. We were all mislead and I also have family members who thought it was bad. Now I know it was bad and that is why we have to move forward. Obama continuously sings this song about being against the war but he did not have the authority to vote at the time. If he did, trust me, he would have voted for the war and I can bet my house on that. He now says he won’t because he has seen the back lash. Why I do not trust him? He will not take a stand. He does not want to be wrong. In life, you make decisions and when it is not the write one you make ones to correct it. Obama floats by on a cloud, and has gotten away with not making any strong decision so that it does not taint his record when he is about to run for president.
On healthcare, Obama’s plan also carries penalities for parents who do not enroll their kids. It is the same what if they cannot afford it? They will get penalized. He does not say that either, didn’t Hillary call him out on it also? I would rather everyone pay their share so that a few will not continue to pay the health care for those who don’t. Yes, sometimes, mandates are required so that that financial load is evenly shared. Besides, there will also be lots of options and it caps the premium based on salary. This is the same one they use in Washington for themselves.
Now on the issue of looking presidential, if you feel someone who is arrogant, cocky, not articulate when there is no teleprompter is more presidential, then someone who is serious and takes things puts herself out there, then you’re welcome to vote for him. NO, Obama has not been calm and respectful. We seem to be seeing different people but anyway, maybe there are two of him with him being “The one” according to Oprah, maybe he does have the ability to be two people.

Steve & othet Obama supporters:
You guys keep on repeating Obama campaign talking point that Clintons are divisive, can any of you give some concrete examples what divisiveness they caused. From what I see Democratic party was, thanks to Mr. Obama, never as divided as it is today. I have seen many posts which say they will never vote for Obama if he is the nominee. By the way I am one those who will not vote for Obama.

Posted by: satish | February 28, 2008, 10:20 pm 10:20 pm

Pat, it shows a lack of judgment. Obama admitted it was a mistake. That, to me, shows character. It is a patter of character he has demonstrated repeatedly. Life is all about making mistakes, owning up to them, and changing behavior.
Obama showed a lot more character in his response than did Bill Clinton in denying the “bimbo eruptions” or than did HRC when weaseling her changing Iraq vote position.
The latter two incidents were mistakes too. I would respect the Clintons if they admitted they were wrong and moved on.
There is someone occupying the White House right now who can’t admit mistakes. Today, it is that the US is not in a recession, despite a growth rate of 0.6% last month and several consecutive interest rate slashes. Now, how well has the infallibility of perfect judgment worked out so far?

Statish,
Thanks for this posting. No, I have not seen this party as divided as it is now and we also had a tough race the last time but everyone rallied. Obama treats those who are stalwarts of the party, and even those who have run this country as if they’ve just been doing wrong for all of these years and it is left to him and Michelle to get it fixed. This has been a proud, successful and great country and so has the democratic party.
Yes, because of the division, I’m concerned that neither of them will win the nomination. I will not support Obama if he gets the nomination. I already know many people who have the same feeling.

I HAVE LIVED IN ASIA FOR A VERY LONG TIME. I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT OBAMA WILL NOT GET VERY FAR WITH ANY ASIAN LEADERS. ASIANS PRIZED “HUMILITY” TO BE THE FIRST VIRTUE, SPECIALLY IN A LEADER. DO YOU ALL SEE HOW JAPANESE AND CHINESE LEADERS BOW TO THE REPRESENTIATIVES IN PARLIAMENTS AND ASSEMBLIES? THOSE LEADERS WILL BE TOTALLY TURNED OFF WHEN THEY SEE THE COCKINESS IN A SELF-CONGRATUTORY, SMUG AND HOLIER-THAN-THOU OBAMA. AND DAMN IT, WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET FROM ASIA IN FIGHTING TERRORISM, GLOBAL WARMING AND ECONOMIC COOPERATIONS. GUESS AMERICANS WHO CANNOT EVEN FIND ASIA ON THE MAP, CAN NEVER IMAGINE THE CONSQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS BY VOTING AN ARROGANT MAN INTO OFFICE.

Salida, there is a growing movement of people who will not support Obama under any circumstance. I agree with an earlier post that it will not be because Hillary did not get the nomination (if that happens) but because he is not the best of the remaining candidates and he would be a disaster for our country.

I think when it coems to Nafta it can be said that although Nafta is not working for America now, at the time of its conception in the 1992 it was the right thing for America but like so many things, times change and with them what was good sometimes becomes bad later on.

I have never donated to any political campaign before but I felt that the press have been unfair to Clinton and that Obama have been advertising like crazy with all the money he collected, I needed to help a more qualified candidate, ie Hillary, to level the playing field a little. I have contributed twice online and will do again with no hesitation.

Rezko and Obama went house hunting together. Obama bought a house and Rezko bought the adjacent lot because the seller wanted to close the deal on the same day. What strikes me odd is that Obama, a novice, was able to get price reduced by $300,000 but Rezko, an experienced businessman, could not get any reduction in price. WOW Obama is smart or may be ????????

Al, NAFTA was negotiated by the Bush administration. It was first discussed by Reagan and Mulroney, and negotiations started under their leadership.
People who will not support Obama under any circumstances are not true Democrats.
I always thought Clinton’s administration (for which HRC takes credit) was a disaster foreign policy wise (Kosovo, Russia, lack of action on terrorist bombings), but I never denied they were Democrats.

Al, how, exactly, did Bush run his campaign? By smearing McCain in South Carolina, by smearing Kerry and his wife in 2004, and by cynically playing the Evangelicals in both elections.
And he has proven true to that form in office.

No, Al, Mulroney and Reagan started the NAFTA negotiations. I remember it.
NAFTA was signed by Bush in 1992 (remember, it’s a treaty). It needed legislative approval thereafter, and Clinton pushed that through.

Satish, you are misrepresenting Obama’s position. He said that if Pakistan refused to rout al Qaeda in border regions, he would bomb those regions to take out al Qaeda.
The truth is, that has already happened. On numerous occasions. There have been several bombings of al Qaeda hideouts in Pakistan (in which innocent civilians have also been killed).
Musharraf is hamstrung in taking action, because it would foment Islamic fundamentalism within Pakistan. Moreover, many of Pakistan’s military officers are ethnic Pashtuns allied with the Taliban and Islamic radicals, and there are fundamentalist sympathizers within Pakistan’s secret service, who tip off radicals when they can.
Do you think it is a coincidence that the safest places in the world today for al Qaeda operatives are Yeman and Pakistan???
So, nothing Obama said was very different from current policies, spin notwithstanding.

Talk about a double standard I was watching a CNN episode when they were interviewing a black male in South Carolina about Hillary. As his wife sat across from him he was saying how he could not vote for a women because he and his friends said she would be soft if the U.S. were attacked by terrorists, Can you imagine if a white man said he would not vote for a person who was black beacuse of his race. Why is gender discrimiantion tolarated when race discrimiantion isn’t. I think when it comes down to this election thats the bottom line.

Men and women are wired differently. There is no denying that. Anyone with boys and girls knows this. And, HRC has said that her governance would be very different because she is a woman.
I don’t believe the amount of melatonin in a person’s skin wires that person differently.

Obama is a slick attorney who knows if he can get people all worked up and excited, they will think they are at a football game shouting to win. His followers don’t even recognize the real situation. Hillary is a mature attorney who knows this country needs a dedicated mature real leader. Obama is all about “him” and Hillary is all about “us”. She has true grit. She is the best choice of all 3 to lead this nation. Obama’s arrogance will lead us down the wrong pathways and perhaps into a worse war or economic mess than we’ve seen already. This is a serious time – it’s not a sporting event. His impeccable coat/tie and legaleze way of smiling while he insults our intelligence by his lack of maturity will not get my vote regardless of party lines. Hillary is miles ahead of him in every agenda presented to us.

Posted by: Dogood1 | February 28, 2008, 11:45 pm 11:45 pm

Al, as a woman, I will disagree with you on just about everything you wrote about gender.
I took Edwards’ comment as a joke. I am a lawyer, and would get comments like that too if I deviated from my standard dark suit. Further, even if it were not a joke, why would it be Obama’s role to defend HRC. Is she incapable of defending herself?
Women have many opportunities in the US. More than in almost any country in the world (including most EU countries). Yes, there is still sexism. But women can, and have achieved power.
What I see is that men succeed because they will put in the hours most women don’t want to put in. Women work until they have children and 90% of the time, once they are mothers, life balance becomes more important than the brass ring.
I don’t think women have been influenced by Oprah. Most women are very capable of thinking independently, thank you very much.

“My view is that the United States’ special relationship with Israel obligates us to be helpful to them in the search for credible partners with whom they can make peace, while also supporting Israel in defending itself against enemies sworn to its destruction”

I also recall the President who won in 1980. BO’s words are inspiring as his, but BO is not like him because the President had already lost his party nomination once and won California twice by the time he was nominated in 1980. BO can certainly sound like him, but BO’s experience is no where near his. Ditto for the comparison between BO and the President who won in 1992.

Snakes on a Blog,
Pakistan is a sovreign country and nobody has a right to go there and bomb them whether they go after Al Quaida or not or whatever their internal politics are. If it is all right for Obama to go and bomb Pakistan in pursuit of Al Quaida then why was it wrong for Bush to go into Iraq in pursuit of WMD and an evil dictator? You say it is happening today. Yes it is happening today because Bush and Musharaff are cooperating in war against terrorism. I read many Pakistani newspapers after that stupid and reckless comment was made and they were all outraged. Face it that was a stupid comment and if he acted on his threat if he is president I can assure you that Pakistan will do some very serious damage to USA, they are a nuclear country and have large well trained army. Oh by the way I thought you and Obama supporters disagreed with whatever current administration did. I am glad that you agree with Bush administration at least on one point.

Posted by: Satish | February 29, 2008, 12:00 am 12:00 am

Hillary’s continued use of her husband to defend her is so typical of feminist who want it both ways. “I’m strong, oh, yes, Bill can you keep that bad old man from attacking me?” Please!!!!! Every guy knows what is going on. Either you stand your own ground if you want to be considered strong or you do what she does and call on ‘big daddy’ when you get into trouble.

Posted by: strangelove | February 29, 2008, 12:08 am 12:08 am

esvida, Ronald Reagan was demonized as a lightweight, and “empty suit” in the same manner Obama has been. In fact, even worse, as Reagan’s intellect was attacked.
Barack Obama has 10 years of public service. The same number Clinton had when elected. And, Clinton had no Washington experience when he was elected.
Satish, Pakistan’s tribal areas (where al Qaeda largely is hiding) have been bombed. And nobody in Pakistan said “boo” about it. Since the real experience provides the true answer, all the dramatic hand wringing is off the mark.
There were no WMD in Iraq, which was disclosed at the time of the invasion (do you remember the name HANS BLIX???). So, your comparison is irrelevant.

r/e Negatives on these thread
Watch out people. Some of the people doing these negatives are Dem haters portraying themselves as either Clinton or Obama supporters. Their goal is polarize each others supporters so that we are hearing both Clinton and Obama supporters saying they will vote for McCain rather than each other’s opponent. Did it ever occur to you that these haters make want that?
Take a lesson from Feb 26th debate: When that offensive picture came up of Obama in dress Hillary looked Obama in the eye and said in a soft voice I really didn’t have anything to do with it. Obama quickly replied I beleive you. They made it a non-issue on national TV. I think they both realized that somebody else outside planted this to create hatred for each other’s supporters sparking the supporters to say I’ll vote for McCain.
Did you ever notice since that pic some of the worse racism KKK stuff started showing up in the blogs all “claiming” to be Clinton supporters.
That other blogger saying we should stop hating (negativity) on each other is right.
For those of you who are long time Democrat perhaps you should realize there are forces outside your party trying to break the Dem party apart and as you can see in the blogs is succeeding. By dividing the party with each others supporters either sitting out or voting for McCain either way results in a win for McCain.
BTW I’m not saying McCain has anything to do with this either. But we all know there are extremist and crazies in the world who will do anything to get people to do what they want.
Also I’m a republican but here i am asking for unity for the Dem Party. You might ask why? Because I have a strong sense of ethics and fairness. I don’t hate on each others parties.

Uh pauper, you will stay that way unless you learn some fundamental lessons of economics.
When interest rates fall, the dollar does too, as international money moves to countries where the interest rate on debt is higher.
Blame the Bush/Clinton policy of MFN status for China and foreign borrowing for your economic woes.

I contributed $100 this month to Hillary–for a better future of my toddler daughter. It is the first time ever in my life to make a political contribution.
Hope this make a small difference at this critical junction of american history.
She has a solid record of serving ordinary people. Millions benefit from her action. It may sound banal to many people, but she indeed will be ready from day one. We need a committed and hardened fighter more than an opportunist to make the right changes for this country.
We don’t have the luxury for another in-job-training, which as past experiences indicate may take several years. This nation is sliding so fast that another four wrong years will make the damage irreparable.
All signs show that Barack is a political opportunist. The best thing he knows is campaign tactics. Other than that I am not impressed. I probably have better judgement and more substance than this guy.
It is good to have a hope, but in the end you have to come back to the cruel reality and fight for every change and progress.

George Bush, jr. has had as much experiences as Obama when he ran in 2000. He was mobbed by huge crowds just like Obama. He was adored by the multitude because he WAS so likable just like Obama. He was preferred by many, specially men, because “he is the guy I can have a beer with”. He was invested with the hope of “CHANGING WASHINGTON AND AMERICAN AND THE WORLD” WHICH HE SOLEMLY PLEDGED. CONGRATULATIONS, WE ARE REPEATING HISTORY AND GETTING ANOTHER LIAKBLE POPULAR REFORMER. Both Reagan and Clinton had experience as Governors before running for the Presidency. BO has 10 years of public service, but too much of that is just resume building w/o taking stands. I’d vote for BO in a heart beat if he showed 1 or 2 terms as IL Governor, or at least 1 or more complete Senate terms with solid records.

Hillary Clinton has been a Methodist her entire life. She attended First United Methodist Church in Park Ridge, Ill. The Clintons currently attend Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington D.C. —- —- You can look up Hillary’s church at umc.org. —————–
The “Christian Church” that Obama belongs to is an all Black church and places Black Africanism values above American values. ———

“BIRDS OF ONE FEATHER, FLOCK TOGETHER.” REZCO THE JAIED CRIMINAL FOR FRAUD AND OBAMA’S BOSOM BUDDY FOR DECADES, THINKS HIS MONEY CAN BUY HIM EVERYTHING. SO DOES OBAMA. SO HE THINKS THE $50 MILLION WILL BUY HIM THE PRESIDENCY. WELL, HE COULD BE RIGHT AS AMERICANS ARE AWED BY MONEY. BUT TOO BAD, MONEY CAN’T SAVE HIS BUDDY REZCO. In the last Debate, Obama said that as President he would reinvade Iraq, if Al Quada entered Iraq after the US leaves.
Ummmm Isn’t that essentially the same reason GW Bush invaded Iraq in the firs place. And back then, it was believed that Sadaam still had WMD’s and was trying to aquire more.
We know for a fact that Al Qaeda has no WMD’s. But Obama would invade anyway? Wow he really is a tough Gangsta.
And Obama still wants us to believe he was always against the war?

ALL THE LIES AND SCARE TACTICS COME FROM OBAMA CAMP. JUST A FEW EXMAPLES: “REPUBLICANS WILL DIG UP A LOAD OF DIRT ON CLINTON” EVEN SHE WAS GIVEN A BILL OF CLEAN HEALTH BY KENETH STARR AFTER $50 MILLIONS INVESTIGATION. ONLY HILLARY ACCEPTS PAC MONEY IS ANOTHER ONE. OBAMA HAS ACCEPTED MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF PAC MONEY AND LET A BILL TO SCRUTINIZE EXOLON DIE AFTER EXOLON GAVE HIS CAMPAIGN $276,000. HILLARY’S CALL FOR REVELATION OF EXOLON’S DEAL WITH OBAMA IS NECESSARY, NOT SMEAR. SO FAR ALL THE DIRT IS THROWN FROM THE BOY’S ROOM. I am mesmerized by both campaigns’ grassroot financial backing. So far the only thing bothering me is the lopsided black votes for BO. I can’t wait to see if there will be a similar support for JM.

Obama’s church is a Christian church for an African American community. Whites who have been there said they felt welcomed.
As a Slav, I can tell you that my church is all white. Does that mean anything?
Rezko is a Syrian Christian. Syria has one of the oldest Christian churches in the world.

Obama also said he would bomb Pakistan, if Osama and Al Qaeda are found hiding in the mountains. And he said he would do it with or without Pakistans cooperation.
Pakistan is the ally of the US and the west, does not support terrorism, and has been instrumental in capturing terrorists, including 9/11 masterminds Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Abu Zubaydah and terrorism suspect Ramzi bin al-Shibh.
Obama, who claims he did not support authorizing the use of force in Iraq, a country who’s leader harbored terrorists and threatened the west, says he will unilaterally bomb our ally Pakistan if Osama is found in the mountains. Even though it is known that Osama does not have WMD’s.
George Bush was wrong in the way he used the authorization from Congress. But Obama is wronger than wrong, and a hypocrite.
The US has not conducted any unilateral military campaigns or bombing in Pakistan as proposed by Obama. The US has only assisted the Pakistanis and have pressured them to conduct raids in the mountain regions, which the Pakistanis have done.
The CIA has assisted the Pakistanis, but not without prior approval from Pakistan’s president, General Pervez Musharraf. A unilateral effort by the US would be an act of war according to Musharraf, and would certainly inflame the region further against the US.
Pakistan has WMD’s. The US needs to keep Pakistan as an ally.
A secret military operation in early 2005 to capture senior members of Al Qaeda in Pakistan’s tribal areas was aborted at the last minute after top Bush administration officials decided it was too risky and could jeopardize relations with Pakistan.
Good to know Bush draws a line somewhere. Obama does not have a clue where the line is.
Pakistan is already peeved over Obama’s “Words”. Obama is a danger to the US and the world.

the ideologue with feel-good rhetoric
I’m really amazed that the press hasn’t made more of BO’s liberal voting agenda in the Ill. and US senate. Take the example of the Born Alive Infant’s Protection Act which was unanimously passed in both the US Senate and Congress and supported by Clinton. A year later, when the Ill Senate wanted to use identical language, BO opposed it. Basically, he was voting for infanticide. This guy makes Clinton, Kennedy, and Boxer look like Right to Lifers compared to him!
For all of the deluded who are going to vote for him, think about this: BO voted present many times on many issues (basically, he refused to take a stance), but on something so straight forward as saving the life of “preterm newborns”, he votes against it???
Why haven’t church leaders, the Clinton staff/supporters, and the press challenged the guy on this? If Clinton voted like this, she would be branded a baby-killer. Instead, BO is deemed our new age messiah.
I don’t want to unify around this guy’s agenda in November.
Obama supporters who spend all their time clapping and singing in church will never respond to this!!

Hillary will win Ohio, and RI. TX and VT are tossups.
But, newly registered voters are being counted in the TX polls, and there is a 30 waiting period to vote in TX.
Those who regestered after Super Tuesday, are showing up in polling numbers, but will not be able to vote.
Too bad for O that the kids can’t just wake up on Tuesday, go register, and vote at the same time.

OH and TX should be the two battles that BO needs to put HC’s campaign to rest. After winning 11 contests in a row, with 1 million donors and contribution running almost a 2:1 ratio, with all momentum on his side if he does not win TX or OH at similar margins of his most recent victories, he should rethink his chance of winning in Nov.

Google “Clinton convicts” and see the results, that is the horrible legacy of the Clintons – Marc Rich Money for Pardon Scandal, Hugh Rodham Money for Pardon Scandal, Travelgate, Lied under oath (felon?), refused to release the names of donors to the Clinton Library Fund (so much for fully vetted)…

Hopefully they will bring back the White House Plates they stole on their way out.. and Bill can get Air Force 2. How nice? Just what we have been waiting. The return of the Clintons for their Third term.. It is their birth right? How dare anyone take it away from them? Democrats, the inevitable, melt-down drama queen Hillary is dreaming of Air Force One already.. She wants to get to “work” on behalf of the American people…Yes…some more scandals – the definition of “IS”, Bill can be in charge of interns – show them around the WH.. Satish, you are mistaken.
Hans Blix gave a speech to the UN on the lack of WMD in Iraq. That was BEFORE the invasion.
Pakistan is sovereign, but if it harbors terrorists who planned attacks, and continue to plan attacks on the US, it is fair game. That is different from attacking a country that did not attack the US.

Posted by: Snakes on a Blog | February 29, 2008, 1:14 am 1:14 am

I don’t think it’s fair, but would it be too irrational for someone to claim that putting BO in the WH is akin to nationalize Chicago’s infamous corruption? Given that scenario and putting BC back in the WH, I’d take the latter hands down.

Posted by: esvida | February 29, 2008, 1:24 am 1:24 am

Pakistan does not “harbor” terrorists. Pakistan is our ally and has been instrumental in capturing 9/11 planners. If Alqaeda is discovered in Pakistan, we must, and will get Pakistani cooperation to kill or capture them.
But the key is that the Pakistanis must be allowed to take the lead in that effort.
On the other hand, Sadaam Hussein did “harbor” terrorists. Al Qaeda is not the only terrorist organization.

Johnnytwodog,
You keep referring to Obama supporters as kids. Interesting, so all the people that voted in the last 11 contests are that Hillary lost are kids..
BTW, Obama never said he would have voted to authorize the use of force.
But I am supporting Hillary because she is fully vetted – Too busy to release her tax returns until she is the nominee, Can’t release the names of donors to the Clinton Library Fund, was not around when Bill started selling Presidential Pardons to felons for Cash..
Yeah, Hillary and Bill for Third Term.. We need them to save us, they have solutions for this country, like teaching children to lie under oath. Yes, sell more Presidential Pardons for Cash — By the way, Air Force 2 is for Bill..ok, the unofficial VP..
Melt-down drama queen Hillary and Sleak Bill for President..

Its up to each individual how they vote. All this slam dunk of people is so out of hand its ridiculous. Its like this Texans and people in other states. Afganistan, under the control of the Taliban, did “harbor” Al Qaeda terrorists.
GW was absolutely right to invade Pakistan. But, he screwed that up. He waited waaay to long to go after them, and he did not make a big enough commitment to keep at it until they were all defeated.
It’s abundently clear that the effort in Afghanistan was weakened by invading Iraq.
That effort will be a disaster if we invade Pakistan too.

Barack is also responsible for the delay in releasing Hillary’s White House papers, oops, the Clintons said George W Bush is causing the delay.. never mind the Clintons are fully vetted, ready to lead on day one.. they would need a new cash till in the White house though, to collect more cash from Convicts.. how nice Clinton pardon for felon Inc., registered to operate out of the WH.. Go Clintons.. we are behind you, we have your back covered.. Third Term for the Clintons… America needs the Clintons

If you google “Clinton Convicts”, that would help you to understand the Clintons better and their legacy. We witnessed it, we saw him lying under oath on TV, it was on news, they stole White House plates on their way out of the White House, they sold presidential pardons for cash. Up till today, we do not know who funded the Clinton Presidential Library because the Clintons would not release the names of the donors.. they are really fully vetted..

esvida, Obama is not reponsible for Chicago’s corruption. That’s existed long before he was born.
People should not let the racists on these blogs get to them. I honestly beleive there are racist Dem haters (not appt by JM tho) who are hoping to divide the Dem party. Tho judging from the blogs all over, as someone said, the candidates supporters share far more animosity than the candidates themselves (recall the last few debates–both did well and had a lot to say).
Hillary really is a better candidate than the the people who are running her campaign.
Also BO has a lopsided vote amongst blacks simply because that race is excited that one of their own may win.
Likewise HRC has a lopsided vote amongst women and in many ares hispanics.
So depending on the state S. Carolina benefited BO and California (now 1/3 Hispanic) benefited HRC. I don’t think there is any conspiracy for the lopsidedness. To me it seems like just blacks who want the 1st black president and women who want the 1st woman president. Anyways that’s my 2 cents.
I hope I didn’t say anyting that you may perceive as antagonist. Beleive I don’t mean that.

I never claimed that BO responsible for Chicago corruption. I don’t think that BO will corrupt the WH just like I never thought that BC sold amnesty for money. But, politically, it’s fair to speculate either way. To argue that someone couldn’t possibly nationalize something not of his creation is just not logical. Take one example – Ray Kroc and the McDonald franchise. Could someone claim that Ray Kroc did not nationalize McDonald because it was founded by someone else?

Snakes on a Blog
If you are president of a country who would you beleive your own CIA director or Mr. Hans Blix.
Who gives Mr. Obama right to label Pakistani citizens or anyboy else for that matter, terrorists who are planning attacks on US. If Mr. Obama as President of US, God forbid, has reason to beleive that some anti US activity is going on in Pakistan there are channels in Pakistan to deal with them. You negotiate and work with Pakistan. And that is what current administartion is doing. You just do not go there, bomb them and risk starting a war. Trust me if you go into Pakistan uninvited and bomb them there will be WAR. If you continue to think that Mr. Obama is justified in bombing Pakistan for any reason then I am afraid you have not learned any lesson from Iraq. Wars and invasions do not solve anything they just escalate the problem. Antagosing a country like Pakistan in pursuit of some criminals is foolhardy and stupid and will hurt US big time.
Good night!!!!

B.Obama has positions with little respect for life. He would not vote to ban the partial birth abortion or to save an infant born alive during an intended abortion. Then he makes the statement that Congress should never have discussed the Terry Shiavo case – and this type of discussion should be off-limits in his mind. If Congress shouldn’t support the right for citizens – no matter their condition – to pursue life liberty and happiness – who will protect us.

Senator Obama should keep his promise and use only Public Finance Campign Money as he pledged to Senator John McCain that is doing the same. However, Senator Obama should then contribute the money he has raised to Democratic Congressional and Senatorial Candidates taht woudl insure him a Democratic and majority in congress and the senate. In this way, he not only has Democratic Allies helping to implement change, but elected officials that owe him for helping them win office. It would be a sign of unselfishness as leader and President. President Clinton had the same chance in 1996 but only worried about himself while the Republicans held onto the congress and senate. It would a show of leadership never seen before and Senator Obama can do it!

It’s sad seeing Democrats tear eachother apart over two people who, policy-wise, are really not that different. Either one will do a pretty good job. Hillary might do better on foreign relations, Obama might do better at uniting the nation and reforming our health care system, but really they are both far better than any other option.

Snakes on a blog, It does not matter what I believe. What matters is what Bush believed when he decided to invade Iraq. I am not privy to inner workigs of CIA and do not know how they came to this conclusion, all I am saying is that rightly or wrongly Bush believed Iraq had WMD. No doubt he was duped either by George Tenet or right wingers like Wolfowitz, Perle, Cheney. Also no less a person than General Collin Powell also believed Iraq had WMD. I know you are convinced that it was all a White House consipracy, do you then believe that Collin Powell was part of this consipracy. I do not. I have too much respect for General Powell. If General Powell can be duped why is it too hard to believe that Bush can be duped too. After all Bush is a moron.
Point I was making in my earlier post was that Gorge Bush believed Iraq had WMD and he attacked them and Obama threatens to bomb Pakistan if they did not pursue terrorists. In my opinion both are wrong and should be condemned. Irresponsible comments like Obama’s are not going to increase America’s respect in the World.
BTW there is no need for sarcasm.

I say good riddance to you and the rest of the sometimes Democrats. Have you ever thought that the reason so many people are switching to Obama, might be integrity, genuine care for the country? My guest is that there are not willing to just except the same old XXXX anymore! So thanks to many people like yourself, we will only have you to blame!!

Oprah is an avid support or Obama…I think had she been supporting Hilary, SHE would be in the lead.
Just my two cents.

No Clinton Third Term. America deserves better. Google “Clinton Convicts” and see the results, that is the horrible legacy of the Clintons from the 90s. No one with that kind of rapsheet deserves to run our country. Reject the Clintons and their baggage, America deserves better.

We are in a heck of a recession according to the leftists in this country. How in the world are people coming up with the combined amount of $85 million in one month for these two worthless slugs? The only thing they have to offer is the notoriously failed system of socialism to replace the America economy.

if the $350 donated by Marc Rich to the Clinton Library Fund before the Presidential Pardon he got from Bill is ok, then why don’t the Clintons release the entire list of donors, since the Library is quasi-public as you claim. Wake up, sleeping Democrats. The Clintons are destroying your party.

I wish to inform America and Democrats that it does not matter who gets the most money, it would be so great if the most competent nominee could be chosen. I for one am getting sick to death of hearing the same chant over and over with only the word “change” being repeated. I have news: it does not matter who is elected there will be change. Change is inevitable. How can he get away with this idiot message?

Posted by: Martha Quigley | February 29, 2008, 7:31 am 7:31 am

Hill is so happy with her internet fund raising results, only to have that Barack again stole the thunder from under her premature glee ! We have now entered into the internet fund raising war and I doubt that behind Hill’s numbers, there could be a Hsu redux. I just don’t trust her supporters with the savy of the internet, as my instinct tells me that we could be into another Clinton inspired scandal !

Posted by: wilson | February 29, 2008, 7:34 am 7:34 am

It is not an idiotic message. We need CHANGE from what the Clintons represent – Scandals galore.
Google Clinton Convicts and see the results, that is the horrible legacy of the Clintons from the 90s. Marc Rich Cash for Pardon Scandal, Hugh Rodham Cash for Pardon Scandal, Travelgate, Monica Lewinsky Sex Scandal, Lying under oath (felon?), Refusing to release names of Clinton Library donors, Refusing to release tax return, Refusing to release Hillary’s White House papers – THAT IS THE CHANGE WE WANT. No to Third Term for the Clintons, America deserves better

We have never voted to return a disgraced impeached President for a Third Term. We are not going to start with the Clintons. Reject the Clintons, America deserves better

The hypocrisy of the democracts . Where does it go next?
They are against the war that gives protection to their miserable lives yet they spread hate and violence against citizens with different views .
They said the country is in recession yet they contribute millions for two liberal socialist loosers.
One woman posts ; elect a democract and bring back decency to the country. Decency to a democract.Abortion, gay rights,no prayer in schools and take god out of everything, oppression of the poor, affrimitive action, amesty and the list goes on.
Barack Hussein Hussein Obama. I’m sure all enimies in the world who want to kill us all will rejoice if he is elected.

MacMan,
Thank you very much for reminding me about Barack’s middle name. In fact I am white, and and my new nick name is – Hussein. People like you make me look forward to voting for Barack, here in Texas. Please continue your race-baiting, it would not change anything.
By the way, the late King Hussein of Jordan who was married to an American lady – Lady Noor – was a great FRIEND and ally of the United States for 50 years. Shame on people who think there is something wrong with the name “Hussein”.

Its amazing to me that while Romney paid for most of his campaigning (not that he ever had a real shot) and Hillary goes out and gives herself a loan. Looks like she is more worried about getting a return than winning the election. Her campaign is a joke as is she. Wake up Hillary, your not as liked as you thought you were!

Jerry
“Keep her in it so we can win it” was the fund raising call that Limbaugh sent out to the radio faithful earlier in the month.
At that time HRC’s anemic campaign was tottering on bankruptcy. HRC had to borrow $5M from Bill and his Kazak buddy and Borat wannbe to keep things afloat.
After the “Keep her in it so we can win it” shout out, all this new money from new individual donors comes pouring in.
Just a coindence is what you tell me. You are probably right, so re-up your donations to HRC.

She should give this money to a charity for the vets or homeless. Spending it is merely a waste of money. The primaries are over, Obama will be the nominee.

Since when in America, that the mere mention of someone’s middle name has become an insult. Hhy Mr. Obama has been so defensive when his middle name is mentioned. When his taliban style of dressing becomes public, them he becomes offensive. We recently saw Laura Bush Proudly dressed in Ghana cultural style with a smile when they she visited Africa. It’s that something that we have to be offensive about. Smear is right in the nose. Mr. Obama has something to hide. Let’s wait till the republican machine kicks in.

Terry McAuliffe was quoted as saying, “”There are 35 million dollars worth of people who have skipped dinners, not taken medications so she can do this,” he said.”
Wouldn’t skipping your medication be illegal under the latest-and-greatest HillaryCare?

I think this country should be ashamed of itself. All this money spent by the campaigns and Ohio can’t even have voting machines that can give an accurate accounting of the vote. What a rip off to the citizens of this country. With todays technology why can’t these states come up with accurate voting machines. This is ridiculous. All the time and money spent by the candidates and the voters can’t even get their vote counted accurately. The Federal government should mandate each state to have accurate voting equipment. Here we go again, 4 years later and the same old problem.

The trouble with democrats is their inability to agree on anything except more entitlement for people too lazy to get off their butts and work and higher taxes to support their new “entitlements”. We are on a run-a-way traing headed for socialism and until the american public wises up and refuses to fund all these BS programs, there is no stopping it.

Posted by: FU_ Dems | February 29, 2008, 10:35 am 10:35 am

Klaus and not4uHillary said it best. It is time to stop all this “I won’t vote for the other candidate” in the general election. If you are a Democrat and support the democratic agenda, you need to support whoever the nominee is in the general election. Let the candidates do their job to WIN the nomination. You do yours by voting your choice. But in the end, we are all still Democrats. There is not a significant difference between Clinton’s or Obama’s agenda. They both follow the democratic agenda. We should as well once it is all said and done. Voting Republican out of anger that your choice did not win is not very mature and silly.

Are they looking to recoup those monies after they take office with kickbacks and favors?

DJ in TX, I suspect that many of those who say they won’t vote for Clinton or Obama if they get the nomination are Independents, like me. Obama is my choice and since, in my core, I know that Senator Clinton cannot be trusted, I can’t in good conscience vote for her. Therefore I will vote for Senator McCain. Too many people keep forgetting that this thing could come down to how we Independents vote.

“Hillary will WIN Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and oh yes, The Presidency!
We need a Democrat in office and that is Hillary Clinton”
Thank you for posting, PMC@HillaryClinton.com. Please email the campaign to collect your payment.

What is this, a freaking contest? No matter what Hillary does, Obama and his supporters have to bully their way into the foreground, dismissing her efforts. Whether it is her agenda and goals for our country, her knowledge of foreign affairs, or her experience, Obama dismisses it and her as irrelevant. This is unbelievable coming from someone lacking any viable experience and with nearly no record of achievements during his very short political career. Now, when her campaign has some good news about contributions, Obama’s camp says basicly, “That’s nothin’, we’ve already doubled that.” This is a great example of how an unqualified candidate can buy his way into the highest office in our country. Hillary’s 35 million dollars in contributions will give her all the air time she needs to show voters what she has to offer.

“Where is this money coming from????Why are her tax records not open to the public????Much of their money comes from overseas and has ties to it.You will not see these or the presidental records of her many trips for they were pleasure and WE paid for them.”
To the uninformed……. She received $8 million for her book, her husband has made over $20 million in the last two years from his book and speaking fees.
The majority of her records are online, look for them. Try a search for her Senate financial disclosures. The presidential records have already been vetted by her and are now in the hands of the Federal Archivist and then the W and his team get to vet them too. Just in case you have forgotten, the W sealed Presidential records for 12 years unless both the sitting President and the former presidents agree to release the files. So we will not see the records about the Iran-Contra affair until a Democratic President is in office.
By the way, the W also had his records from Texas moved into his fathers’ Presidential Library, which in effect put them off limits forever.
As to the Obomba, I am a life long liberal as was my late wife. I would never vote for this man. Another W, all hat, no cattle. I at least know the sins of Hillary. I wonder how long it will be before the hysteria about “change” will be over and they take a hard look at his mob connections, his “present” votes and his complete lack of a record of accomplishment in the US Senate.

Something no has addressed recently, the delegates from Florida and Michigan. They will have to be seated regardless of what the Democratic leadership says. I forsee a major lawsuit if they are not. It would disenfranchise over 2 million votes.
Pundits and the Obomba people claim they were meaningless, they were not. Hillary won Florida with 50%. Obomba, 33 % or so of the vote and Michigan with 55%. One more point although it is never discussed, without the black vote voting in lock step ( just like the evangelicals do for the right), the Obomba would not even be on the radar.

I guess it really has come down to “buying votes”. Unfortunately, “he who holds the gold holds the power” has become the only way to be elected President. Worse yet, no one can even answer the question… What have these two done as Senators? Campaign promises tell us NOTHING! Hillary promised Upstate NY thousands of new jobs… Today we have well over 100,000
FEWER jobs that before she became Senator. Obama supporters, even top level, can not relate one thing that Obama has accomplished since entering politics. PLEASE, lets make our decisions based on facts, not rhetroric!
We are electing the President of the United States, not some for President of the high school Senior Class.

Obama,
When you told the media that you think in the general election that you will get Hillary’s voters but that there is nothing that indicates that she will get your voters, YOU LOST MY VOTE!! If you are the nominee, I will vote for McCain. You are an empty “uniter” just like Bush.
Dems for McCain

So Hillary wants a pat on the back because she raised $35 million this month? Please…
Obama has been out-funding and out-campaigning her since day one. To boast over one million unique donors, raise $50 million this month alone, and come from behind in a race he wasn’t supposed to win in the first place and now be the frontrunner with 11 straight wins is quite an achievement.
Win or lose, Obama has done more in this race than any other presidential candidate in recent times. I give credit where credit’s due.

This entire topic of who raised more $. If either gave a #### about the people, they would have raised it for the troubled economy we are living in, not for personal gain. This entire campaign shows USA is being roped into another pompus status quo that the American people will feel in there homes. God help America. They can raise between them, all running, what does it add up to? But middle and low class are loosing jobs, homes, self respect, and pride for our nation. Well fantastic the rich can raise millions daily to buy a spot in the White House. Dispicable polititions and obviously some people can afford their taxes raised, get off the small guy!

Posted by: regionfive | February 29, 2008, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

regionfive – the money Obama raise gets churned right back into the economy. The primary elections account for hundreds of millions of extra dollars being spent – much of it going to relatively small businesses like printers, caterers etc.
If HRC ever pays her bills it will be even better for the economy.

So Hillary raised 35 million and Obama 50? Thought there was a recession going on? Who has all the money to give? So why are democrats complaining about the price of gas or groceries if they can afford to give money to people who are better off than they are…strange people.

Posted by: El | February 29, 2008, 4:52 pm 4:52 pm

Mariann Pepitone…..I said the exact same thing when I heard this fabrication about Obama’s fund raising on the news last night. It’s all Politics with Obama. You see at first all they could do was brag about how much money he was raising, then when Hillary’s donor’s stepped up to the plate Obama’s campaign had to outshine her fund raising by such a larger number. There is no way Obama raised more than $50 million dollars in one month. It’s another tactic to derail Hillary’s accomplishments during the election. I’m 41 years old and African-American and I would NEVER vote for Barack Obama. He’s a uppity, stiff shirt in a suit with an arrogant attitude, and he is not ready to run the country…..GO HILLARY !!!HILLARY 08!!

Is Obama running for National Preacherman or President of the United States? He has many, many rules on how people should live their lives, almost Godlike. I haven’t heard anything about what he would do as the leader of the greatest country on earth. He talks about America as if we’re a third world country. – Feed your children breakfast in the morning. – Come on, people. We have many, many things to be proud of despite what Obama’s wife says. Over two-thirds of the budget of the Department of Agriculture is for food handouts. Does Obama not know that schools in his hometown, Chicago, offer 3 meals a day for their students – provided by our federal government – that’s us, folks! We need a REAL person who is REALLY in touch with our nation. Not someone off on a third-world, save the world, tangent!
