‘Shame On You’ — Plagiarized?
Another incident of plagiarism?
Hillary Clinton scolded Barack Obama via the media in Ohio yesterday: “Shame on you!” she said. (Watch HERE)
But last month Bill Clinton said the same thing to the media about Barack Obama!
“Shame on you!” he said. (Watch HERE)
But wait . . .
John Edwards had a whole “Shame on You, Ann Coulter” campaign last year!
And Michael Moore told President Bush “shame on you” at the 2003 Academy Awards!
Not to mention Mr. Bush’s famous maxim “fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fool me, you can’t get fooled again.”
Will these thefts never stop?*

* Yes, I’m kidding. Scolding has been going on since the Garden of Eden.

Sen. DeMint: GOP Race Could Go Until Convention
Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
Our language has a finite number of words, and expressions. We all are plagiarists. Can’t be helped! We can’t invent a new language for each speech, you know.

We can now understand thats the language the Clinton family are used to. Though to some people it sounds strange to come out of the mouth of a person expected to be a President or the former.
So whom we will hear next? Chelsea!!!!!!

I think your point is well taken. For either candidate to accuse the other of plagiarism is plain stupid. What I don’t like is the hypocrisy of Hillary Clinton accusing him of negative campaigning. I’m from NH and received the false, negative mailer about Obama in early January. She also did negative campaigning in IA. Not to mention that she called Obama’s healthcare plan “universal” in August but sent out mailers in Wisconsin saying he was leaving out over 15 million people. The flyer she had in her hand is the same one sent out to Wisconsin in response to her false, negative flyer. Hillary Clinton either thinks the American people are stupid or have amnesia. She is a world class hypocrite.

Obama and Hillary is almost tied
Not a big deal on the Obama’s wins.
I think both are desperate.

The sexist language continues. Were it Sen. Obama who responded to the fliers in that manner would the media use the word scold?
SNL is on to you.

Johnny at Work,
Thanks for the info. We have so much at stake in this election and all this blogger can talk about is an absurd spin on plagerism. Incredible…….
Obamanation…..

tv – your vote calculations include FL amd MI. Remember they don’t count.
Pauline – Obama has too much class to stoop to the Clinton petty tactics. He has taken the high road over and over again no matter how many times Clinton has attacked him personally or on issues.
Johnny at work – Barack used 2 passages with permission from his national co-chair. Hillary (in her debate finale) used a passage from her husband and one from John Edwards. So I think we need to call the plagiarism thing even and drop it.
All Clinton supporters- watch video of Lorna Brett Howard and then decide who should be ashamed of who.

It’s a shame that news organizations have to insult Americans’ intelligence by covering this “plagiarism” nonsense… but since Clinton started this ridiculousness in the first place, I’m glad she’s getting a taste of her own medicine.

ROTFLMAO Way to go Jack! We all need to make fun and laugh at the extremes some of these people will go to get more media attention. Got a clue for Hillary to buy…wait she can’t afford it unless she loans herself more money at a higher interest rate than she was getting at her bank…..does this woman have no shame? Oh that’s right! She dosen’t! She stayed with Bill!

Nope. Voters were either undecided or voted for Hillary.

Hey Sad State of Affairs…you mean after the primary is re run since Hillary was the only coward who agreed to NOT campagine in those states and she was the ONLY one on the ballot in MI? Yep thats a sure fire way to steal an election and rob the American people of their right to choose.
Posted by: Sam | February 24, 2008, 11:25 am 11:25 am
She sounds more and more like a Mom scolding a child. How patronizing. BTW, I think the Queen of spin has now found herself getting a taste of her own medicine. Hence the temper tantrum.
Posted by: Sorry, mommy | February 24, 2008, 11:26 am 11:26 am
tv — A million votes difference is not “almost tied.” As for Florida and Michigan, the DNC declared no delegates would be elected in those primaries, and candidates made strategic decisons based on that declaration. The outcome of the presidential race cannot be determined by those states, without destroying the integrity and credibility of the nomination process.

The primary and caucus count don’t really mean much now.
Ralph Nader is back offering a true difference from the standard corporate line of Democrats and Republicans.
Now, the independents truly have an alternative to vote for, and neither Clinton nor Obama nor McCain nor Huckabee can count on their support.
Go Nader!

OBAMA 08 is the battle cry of those who want change and are tired of almost 30 freeking years of Bush/Clinton! Think about it! 8 for George 1…8 for Billy the perv…..8 for George 2…and now we are suppose to let Hillary add another 8 to this total? These 2 families do not have the right to set the course of this country nor do they have the right to lie, cheat or take care of their friends with our tax dollars!
Posted by: Sam | February 24, 2008, 11:31 am 11:31 am
Don’t know what country you were living in, Sam, but George Bush the elder only served one term before being ousted by the Clinton machine. For most people that would equal 4 years.
Granted, he was Vice President for Ronald Reagan for 8 years, but that isn’t quite the same. Ask Al Gore.
Go Nader!

The solution to the Michigan Florida issue is to let all the delegates go as uncommitteds. If Obama thinks he can get them to vote for him, then let him try.
These people who put their names forward and were voted for as delegates should be allowed to go to convention.

Nope..changing the rules again. FL and MI KNEW the cost and decided to pay it. The only fair way would be another primary in both states. BUT I fully expect the clinton kool aid drinkers to try to steal the election with this…won’t work though as the America people are speaking out! LOUDLY.

SHAME ON YOU HILLY!
Hilly’s new strategy is to show anger and wait for Barack Obama to show the same level of hostility that Obama shows. Then angry Hillary Rodham Clinton can cry and scold Barack Obama for attacking her, and act as though she is the white southern bell being attacks by the angry mid-west black man.
Yes her strategy just 10 days before the Ohio and Texas primaries is an 11th hour attempt to build a new color arousal effort to save her campaign. Check out her out of control non-presidential demeanor and agitation. Is this the type of person that you want as Commander and Chief?

Rules. Since when did rules mean anything to the Clinton or Obama campaigns?
The rules have all changed with the Nader announcement. The independent vote has direction.

Just reading through the comments and noticed that one post refers to former President Bill Clinton as “Billy the perv.”
From what I read on another site, the results of the Larry Sinclair polygraph tests will be out Monday or Tuesday.
Perhaps we can subdue the name calling and wait to define what a “perv” is until then.

I think it is very important to clarify what is plagiarism. “Hello”, “Good morning” or “shame on you” is NOT plagiarism. Plagiarism happens when someone tries to make a point, an argument or statement by copying what have been stated by others without citing the resources in a passage. Senator Obama has correctly admitted he committed plagiarism without giving credit to governor Deval Patrick. Case closed. It is true that we have a finite number of words in English language. But there can be infinite number of combinations of words or constructions to make sentences or paragraphs powerful or meaningless. Be yourself by using your own words not copying others.
Posted by: Fair minded | February 24, 2008, 2:17 pm 2:17 pm
The ironic thing about her complaining about plagarism is the fact that her big moment at the end of the debate was directly taken from her husband in ’92. I like how nobody ran that clip over and over to show that she’s doing the same thing.
And plagarism is taking something unlawfully from another. If using Duval’s words is plagarism (after he told Obama to use them) then candidates should have to give credit to their speechwriters so that nobody accuses them of plagarism. And that’s just as ridiculous.

What makes Obama wrong does not make Hillary right and vice versa. There is a morale standard here. It is very courageous for Obama to admit he is wrong using “patented” expression without citation. But the spin afterwards is less genuine. Try this with your professor and tell him/her that your classmates gave you the permission to copy paragraphs from his/her term paper for the assignment. Perhaps you can try to use the same logic to justify plagarism. Curious about the outcome of that argument.

Face it folks, Hillary scored one on Obama – this vitriolic reaction is more appropriate to the neo-conservatives. We elected the last president based upon emotional choices – and look where we are now. Can we go back to talk about real issues?
Posted by: What about real issues? | February 24, 2008, 3:45 pm 3:45 pm
Where does the speech writer place in all of this? Seems the candidates are using writers’ words and taking them as their own.
To be silly and follow on the academic example what would happen if your professor found out you were paying somebody to write your papers?
Posted by: Ron | February 24, 2008, 7:23 pm 7:23 pm
Perhaps the speech writer should come with up a different speech for a different candidate. The future president of United States should not be a product of mass production. He/she should have a better judgment to provide a unique identity of his own. Senator Obama is not running for the governor of Mass but president of US. He should be held to a higher standard.

Hopefully all these votes will go to McCain if Obama is the candidate. For these were votes against Obama….Screw the democratic party at this point…They have screwed all of us who have stayed with them for many lost national elections…We took a chance on Carter and that got us in more turmoil and only 4 years….Here we go again!!

You can still like someone and yet be angry with them when they LIE. I am sure Obama would do the same. He controls himself for the press, but lets it all out during his rallys. Don’t you all think that a person has the right to be angry about something? First, people complain Hillary is a robot, then when she shows feelings, she is attacked. Give me a break and grow up.

TO DONE…
MY vote WILL go to McCain if Obama is the nominee. It is not normal to worship another human being, his campaign is nothing but a joke, celebrities give him money, etc.. so I am done too, and for the first time in my life will vote republican because I DO care about the USA…

The whole plagiarism business started by Hillary shows either she doesn’t understand how politics (and perhaps the world at large too) works or she counts on us not to understand. Not good.
Despite the fact that sometimes Obama appears to do similar things as Clinton, he clearly does them without those two effects. I have yet to be given cause to doubt he understands how politics (and the world) works. I have yet to see him counting on us being clueless too. In fact, if anything, I see him encouraging more understanding, not less.
That makes a big difference.
