Clinton Bosnia Account Comes Under Fire

ABC News’ Eloise Harper and Nitya Venkataraman Report: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., has been receiving heat for her account of a trip she took to Bosnia as First Lady, most recently in a clip that splices her account with CBS footage of the 1996 visit being circulated by the Obama campaign.

It has been disputed whether Clinton was embellishing the risk she faced during the landing in Tuzla and the trip overall. Most recently, Clinton said they landed in an "evasive maneuver" "under sniper fire".

At an event in Washington last Monday, Sen. Clinton said, "There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."

After CBS video surfaced of the 1996 visit to Bosnia showing no visible threat and a calm greeting ceremony on the tarmac in Tuzla  – Clinton’s account was again called into question.

Today on a conference call with reporters, Clinton Communications Director Howard Wolfson, defended Clinton but said that she may have "misspoke" in her most recent description of the trip.

In Clinton’s account of the same visit in her autobiography "Living History" she describes a near-perpendicular landing to evade possible ground fire" but talks about the greeting ceremony on the tarmac in Tuzla with local schoolchildren though says it was cut short "due to reports of snipers in the hills around the airstrip".

During the event on the tarmac, Clinton writes in her autobiography "One eight year old girl gave me a copy of a poem she had written entitled "Peace". Chelsea and I presented the school supplies we had brought….We were then hustled off to the fortified American base at Tuzla, where over two thousand American, Russian, Canadian, British, and Polish soldiers were encamped in a large tent city."

UPDATE

In an editorial board meeting with the Philadelphia Daily News and Philadelphia Inquirer, Clinton revised her Bosnia story, admitting there was a "misstatement" in her account describing running with her head down to get into the vehicles. Today, she said that she "had to meet this 8-year-old girl," so, "I took her stuff and left."

When Clinton was challenged by a reporter that this revised account calls into question her foreign policy credentials, Clinton then said, "No, I went to 80 countries, you know. I gave contemporaneous accounts, I wrote about a lot of this in my book. You know, I think that, a minor blip, you know, if I said something that, you know, I say a lot of things — millions of words a day — so, if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement."

Good job, Obama! You gotta do the work FOR the journalists these days.

Posted by: Cat | March 24, 2008, 3:31 pm 3:31 pm

Oh please. Can we just talk about our country for once, instead of arguing about whether somebody said EXACTLY the same thing today as they did yesterday, or 12 years ago? Or whether we approve of the church they go to?

Posted by: jock59801 | March 24, 2008, 3:32 pm 3:32 pm

It’s not really just the lies, its the hypocrisy. Or the combination of lies and hypocrisy. The American people just can’t get past those two issues with Hillary.
Fundamentally, you can’t believe a word she says because she would say and do anything just to get elected. That’s not what I call a “fighter.” It’s what I call a spineless politician.

Posted by: mg | March 24, 2008, 3:33 pm 3:33 pm

So Hill lied. So what else is new.

Posted by: JENNY | March 24, 2008, 3:33 pm 3:33 pm

Wow. All that extra Obama money is SURE being well spent digging up this stupid dirt. She embellished if she was under fire on a trip to Bosnia 12 years ago???????
This is it? The big DIRT????? lol…….
Tim burton and Michelle Plouffe are digging themselves deeper. LOL.
Man they are trying hard to get the press negative on Clinton to take the heat off Obama.
This is again, very poor journalism.

Posted by: tomdavie | March 24, 2008, 3:33 pm 3:33 pm

This is a big MISSPOKE. You’d think she’d verify these things first. It just shows, she’d do anything to win. She’d mislead us all instead of checking things out.She lied about NAFTA. She lied about her role in Ireland. These are not small exaggerations. This calls character into question.

Posted by: Right on Day1 | March 24, 2008, 3:34 pm 3:34 pm

Are we still on about this???
At least she’s been to Bosnia.
Obama can say anything he wants to nit pick her foreign trips but at least she had them.
In his capacity as a US representative Obama has been to London once on a stop over.
How and why is it important what Sinbad the comedian says with regards to the first lady’s visit to a foreign country.
This is so absurd.
He has no I mean Zero foreign policy experience. He could have had some but he is yet to convene the committee.
He’s too busy with his ego to bother with NATO.

i thought obama said he will not run a negative campaign and that he is not like the clinton .i remember him saying that the clinton are playing dirty polictics and they are old polictic but what make him different. you cannot even trust his words. who is he to point at anybody ?did he forgot his pastor story ?w e did’nt;;;;

she is all lies, and will never tell the american people the truth. It runs in the family

Posted by: wycliffe | March 24, 2008, 3:37 pm 3:37 pm

It was a bad blunder on her part. I’ll warrent that. As a Hillary supporter, I wish she would have used more caution and better judgment, since each misstep like this makes her uphill battle to win even harder.
That being said, I still prefer her over Obama. Both of them have shown some poor judgment and hypocrisy throughout this campaign. I still find her more stable and better prepaired.

Posted by: Ryan from Indiana | March 24, 2008, 3:37 pm 3:37 pm

Obama is allowed to associate with Anti-Americans & criminals, his wife is allowed to say she has never been able to be proud of the US until her husband decided to run for president, but Hillary can’t have one little blunder? Come on, pull your heads out of the sand and see Obama for what he really is…an unqualified wanna-be.

Posted by: Cheryl | March 24, 2008, 3:38 pm 3:38 pm

And why doesn’t anyone examine Obama’s foreign policy experience?
Oh I know, he doesn’t have any to examine and he wont release his records from 14 years ago.
When is he going to release his schedules from the Illinois senate and earmarks and tax returns, so we can see what he did for the Trinity United Church and when.

Posted by: s.b. | March 24, 2008, 3:38 pm 3:38 pm

Quite interesting. First she claimed she was involved in peace-making in N. Ireland which turned out not true. Now its Bosnia issue. Her experience she claims seems to be questionable!

Posted by: Peace | March 24, 2008, 3:38 pm 3:38 pm

She didnt say she had to dodge bullets. She said they had to run because they were warned of sniper fire.
Warned of sniper fire is different than dodging bullets.
She said the plane landed with evasive maneuvers because of reported fire.
None of this has been disproven.

Posted by: s.b. | March 24, 2008, 3:40 pm 3:40 pm

It just goes to show that she will say anything or do anything to get the nomination! And if she is in fact an abused woman – why would we want a mentally unstable person answering the phone at 3 am in the morning?

Posted by: wolfeye | March 24, 2008, 3:43 pm 3:43 pm

Why is Obama and his followers making such a big thing about this?? She was there . So what if some of the details don`t agree? Is Obama getting so desperate that he has to use non essential BS to bolster his ego. Or is he just trying to create a smoke screen to avoid talking about real issues.

Posted by: Vince | March 24, 2008, 3:43 pm 3:43 pm

Lets talk about why Obama hasn’t convened a committe overseeing NATO.
Bosnia was a NATO mission as well.
Lets talk NATO, an area where MR obama could have had knowledge and expertise and experience except for one thing.
He can’t be bothered!
Lets talk about Bosnia and the NATO alliance and how its disfunctional rightnow and countires wont send their troop into combat zones. NOw which one of these candidates hasn’t done their jobs with regards to the military or NATO?
That would be relevent wouldn’t it??

Posted by: s.b. | March 24, 2008, 3:44 pm 3:44 pm

If Hillary made just “one little blunder” in dealing with the truth, that would be one thing. But it’s patently obvious that she lies and lies and lies. Or, as one of her biographers put it, she has a problem with truth. Rather like our current President.

Posted by: Roger | March 24, 2008, 3:44 pm 3:44 pm

I find it hillarious how HRC’s supporters are willing to just dismiss her LIES AWAY… you people will support a liar and trust your country to someone who fabricates her foreign policy background – no such trip to Africa, was not part of the Irish Peace Agreement, Run Hillary, Run Sniper fire!
You guys just crack me up! You eat all of it up – shows you have air between your ears

Posted by: liar, liar. | March 24, 2008, 3:45 pm 3:45 pm

S.b–no one asks Obama because he didn’t loudly toot his horn on his experience compared to the other candidate or brag about his shaping critical world events.
Hillary did make those claims so it IS a big deal when it turns out she has greatly stretched the truth once again.
* *
It’s fascinating to see Obama criticized for fighting back. Some of the same people criticizing him for that are the ones who said he was non-presidential because he wouldn’t get down and dirty. What is it going to be? –It’s like the whole Muslim shtick…the same people who accused him of being Muslim now accuse him of being too close to a Christian church.
???

Clinton is out speaking on her proposals for the economy and Obama has this! What next? Maybe one of his advisors can snoop in the passport files again.

Posted by: jim | March 24, 2008, 3:46 pm 3:46 pm

This issue is very small considering the fact that Bosnia is very volatile and there was risk for her to go there and be a good will ambassader. The intent of the visit is very important and I think it must be very proud moment for her because she did it knowing the risk. Obama campaign is playing down her intent. Did Obama ever experienced such critical moments? I suppose not and that’s why he does not appretiate her intent.

For how long will she continue to lie to the America people. The most annoying part of this matter is that she is getting a free pass by the media on it. First it was NAFTAR now its Bosnia, what next Madam experience.

Clinton made a major speech on the economy today. You know the economy. That thing that feeds people and keeps a roof over their heads.
She gives a speech detailing her plans for an emergency response team to finincial crisis and you see fit to report this garbage.
Lets talk about the economy people.
How about NATO. Bring it on. Nit picking weather or not her plane was warned of incoming sniper fire and when that threat was over 14 years ago is a complete distraction.
Obama got coverage of his speech. Why arent you covering Clinton’s speech??
Do you take all of your talking points from the Obama campaign??
Cover the speech or cover NATO like a real reporter.

Ryan from Indiana, you get my kuddos! even though you can see where Hillary MIS-SPOKE you still support her and I honestly commend you for that! matter a fact you’re why I’m responding to this. I’ll now say I’m an Obama supporter but that’s not the point you overlooked a political error because you honestly believe in your candidate and that is comendable (sorry if there’s mis-spelling) I honestly like Hillary don’t think she’s the best one and that’s ok, the point is these candidates are human and no matter who gets in the white house (hopefully it will be Barak or Hillary) there not going to go in and get it right immediatly but I think they will honestly go in to try. the point again is you where able to overlook a mistake as I have with my candidate not naming anything exactly but still behind who I think can help us get back on track so again I wrote this because of you and I hope all will think about your passion for who you’re going to give your important vote for!!

NEVER!

Posted by: s.b. | March 24, 2008, 3:51 pm 3:51 pm

I guess it’s human nature for people, expecially politicians to exagerate issues. In any area with potential surface to air risks, it is SOP for USAF aircraft to execute certain landing manuvers. In this particular case, it was probably a random steep approach to maximize altitude before the aircraft touches the runway. The same is generally true on take off..Since Hillary was on-board, every percaution was taken. I’m certain she was at no risk, since I sincerely doubt the aircraft would have been permitted to land with her aboard, with reported gunfire in the area..

look obama campaign again calling people a lier did’nt he lied when he first said he was not in those sevice when his pastor give those speeches than after he confess he was there. he knew the truth was gonna come out with rezko. the funny think about this guy he always sit on his lies and then when he notices that the media is going to find out then he start saying something else. i think there nothing comparing to the story about his pastor then what hillary said.he is just want the voters to forget his pastor story and his lies so they can focus on clinton; well the american are not stupid.

I find it funny that both the Clinton’s and their supporters want to change the rules on Fl and Mich. no vote primaries.
All parties agreed to a set time, and when warned that changing that time would cost them they did it anyway. And now they are crying because their votes won’t count. Wah, wah wah – next time play by the rules – tey won’t be changed just to satisfy a crybaby!

obama lived in a foreign country when he was a young child – his sole claim to knowledge and experience in foreign policy (other than the subcommittee he heads in name only because he has never even called a meeting). hillary overdescribes a landing scenario. which do i care more about? if you don’t know, please reread.

Posted by: so saddened | March 24, 2008, 3:54 pm 3:54 pm

LEts talk about NATO with Obama.
Wait Obama doesn’t know anything about NATO.
HE’s never visited a NATO operation.
He’s never had a meeting on NATO even though he chairs the committee and hundreds of US soldiers are dying in Afghanistan.
Bring it on. Obama has no experience.
Let him bring up Bosnia. Make a tv commercial out of it.
The responding ad will be very easy, just a blank screen and these words:
Obama’s never been to a NATO operation.

Posted by: s.b. | March 24, 2008, 3:54 pm 3:54 pm

Okay, there’s a HUGE difference between “misspoke” and imaginary gunfire!!! This was no misstatement, it was a deliberate attempt to perpetrate a lie.
Maybe, while she was napping on the plane, she was dreaming of landing under gunfire. But to call this a misstatement is pure folly.
Now, if they were playing a recording of sniper fire when she landed, her statement might come closer to misspoke — close, but no cigar (pardon the pun)!
Obama 2008 — Yes, WE CAN!!!

to tomdavie & s.b
it’s hard for me to understand what you are saying in your comments, because they makes no sense.
these two comments by people who really do not want to see things ran fair, and it’s plain to see. Any time you have to attack and have nothing more to add then “So She Lied” i think says it all.
this election is for the future of this conutry and we have at least two people who are “Seem” to be caught up in race, gender and BS comments.
the last thing i would add is instead of making BS statements about what Obama’s foreign has been … why don’t they state the facts of both of their foreign policy and let the facts stand on their own.

Let me see Hillary has
Bosnia verified out of 80 countries visited
obama visited 2 countries 1 once a layover in Britian plus the somalia trip.
the obama people need to leave this type of discussion alone. he still does not match up.

She continues lie to the American people, sad. I had so mcuh respect for this women but I can not or will not lie to myself and pretend that this type of tactics by the Clintons is just ok. No its worong. She has shown only one thing and that is a disturbing pattern of lying to the American people. I think that democrats are mooron and they wont see this as an issue. We need to look deep in our hearts and know that the clintons are the most dis-honest people in this planet. Can you imagine the harm that Hillary and Bill will do to this nation if elected. We need to stand firmly and reject the distructive and nasty tactics by the Clinton machine. We Americans are sick and tired of the dis-honesty from the clintons. We want peace and prosperit..No more Drama. I urge all democrats, republicans and Independents to look deep into their hearts and go with a canditate that has shown grace, compassion and integrety. I now know that I will not cast my vote for Hillary…..

Posted by: s.b. | March 24, 2008, 3:57 pm 3:57 pm

Her story that enemy fire was reported to the plane was confirmed.
When that danger was neutralized 14 years ago may be in question.
Contrast that to Senator obama who has never flown into a war zone and never visited a NATO mission or any US troops anywhere for that matter.

So, she stretched the truth a little … but, it’s still not as bad as lying about sitting in the pews of a church that “damns America” … and then attacking Geraldine Ferraro like a pitbull … NOBAMA is a liar too! … but at least Hillary LOVES America!!

This is a first lady who took various risks while her husband was in office. I can’t think of any first lady since Eleanor Roosevelt who flew into a war zone. If she remembers some details differently than they actually occurred, she still deserves enormous credit for undertaking the trip at all. Remember, Clinton’s advisor Ron Brown and others (forgive me for not recalling their names) died in a plane crash during the war in Bosnia. I’m not minimizing the roles of other first ladies who chose more conventional roles – but she was groundbreaking.
Do I care that these old date books don’t contain black and white evidence of a formal role in policy? Absolutely not! She was the President’s wife – with the ability to summon just about anyone – who would have been thrilled to have her ear – because, guess what folks, YOU DON”T HAVE TO MAKE APPOINTMENTS TO TALK TO AND ADVISE YOUR HUSBAND – whether he is the president, a CEO or the local selectman. Anyone who doesn’t understand this, should talk to small businessmen whose wives perform various roles in their businesses without the formal recognition that comes with a title or salary.
My final point, various unbiased commentators(David Gergen, George Stephanopolis) and politicians (republicans even) have confirmed her role in policy and programs). Again, why isn’t the DNC putting the brakes on all the negative, non-issues being raised by TEAMOBAMA. This country – and the Democratic Party owe them a debt of gratitude – whether she becomes the nominee or not – Remember: it took 48 years to put a two term Democrat (Bill Clinton) in the White House following the re-election for a 3rd term of FDR.
Are we seeing yet again, the Democratic Party snatching defeat from the jaws of victory?

What I find to be interesting is how if Clinton makes a small mistake it is all over the news, but if Obama makes a similar mistake, we barely hear about it. And, what about their major speeches? Obama has made one or two and they were made so public that it was hard not to hear about it, but if Clinton makes a major speech on the economy or about Iraq, no one knows what its about unless they research it. The media is against Clinton for what reason I do not know, but it is quite pathetic. The Obama campaign has stooped to a record low.

Here is more proof that Hilary is not to be trusted. She has started this election compaign hell-bent causing a major rift in the Democratic party and on lying her way back into the White House, from her concealing of her role in the endorsement of Nafta and the war in Iraq to her stories about her political experience to this one. Indeed, Hilary’s supportes should pull their heads out of sand and honestly ask themselves how people can possibly a person who is bound to break Bush’s record of lies… soon.

Let it go people. the reason we are holding Obama to a standard of “not going negative” is because he is the one running on being a new kind of politician, above the fray, no negativity….his words are empty, he is worse than a “regular” politician because he pretends he isn’t one…. to be a politician you have to play the game, and play it well. The only thing he plays well is the race card… when ever he gets into trouble he claims he is being discriminated against. he is not a better kind of politician, he is the worst kind! Go home now, we don’t want you anymore!

The clintons are a broken promise to the American people. They will never pull this country out of dovission because it is agaist their belief. They don’t benefit from unity they are always to the contrary of the poor.

14 years ago her plane was told of enemy fire on or around the runway.
That has been confirmed.
Landing under fire has been confirmed. Get it!
I dont believe Senator Clinton ever said she dodged bullets. She said they were told to hurry and keep their heads down. Also true.
I dont see any lies. If the danger had passed and authorities felt it was safe for the first lady to be greeted then it was.
She was the first lady at the time. If the secret service tells her to keep her head down I dont think she asks questions. She does it.
Her story has been esentially confirmed. She went to a war zone to visit a NATO mission and there was enemy fire near enough to caucse concern when her plane landed.
Again Obama has never visited an NATO mission, just sat in the pews of his chuch and lied about that later, like two months later, not 14 years.

We both are very aware of the Clintons and know that consistenly lie about everything. We have no disire to have them bak in the White House. As sad as it may sound Hillaty will say anthing to get elected. I respect my wife in her support of Barack. I must admit that I deepy belive he will be great for this nation. He is very smart and has shown grace and brilliance threw all of This mud swinging from the Clintons. Im sorry to say Hillary is just not president material. How can she be trusted.

Look to my moderate friends, Hillary cannot legally beat Obama only hurt him against McCain. So she wins Penn big with the support of racist democrats. she will never win N.C. big if at all and IndiaNA. She cannot win and that is the truth. She is arrogant and only out for herself while helping McCain and her husband is now like a neo-nazi with his raves about Obama. If she steals the deal, I assure you she will lose most of Obama’s supporters and rightly so with all the garbage the clintons did to this good and decent American.

Wright, who began the “Ministers in Training” (“M.I.T.”) program at Trinity United Church of Christ, has been a national leader in promoting theological education and the preparation of seminarians for the African-American church.[5] Wright has received three presidential commendations and was named one of Ebony magazine’s top fifteen preachers.[6]

here’s a news flash. Hillary made a speech on a future housing plan today in Philadelphia; what’s so strange is that it is so similar to the memo Obama sent out March 2007 to Federal Reserve Chairman and Treasury Secretary. Hillary has a lot of gall and what she banks on is the American people not reading…

errrr…. BO on NAFTA. BO on Rezko. BO on Wright. nuff said.

Posted by: IndigoGrrl | March 24, 2008, 4:12 pm 4:12 pm

I find this comical. Obama said on his Friday sweep of news organizations that “he never heard his Pastor make inflamatory statements when he was in the pew”. He even went so far as to say “if he had heard it more than once, he would have left”. Then, in his big race speech, he said “yes” to the statement “did I hear these types of statements when I was in the church”. Now that is a bold faced lie on National TV – just 4 days later. Not a word about that in the analysis & reporting on the speech. But – here is a story about Clinton. The reporter on the plane DID confirm the pilot used anti-sniper tactics to land the plane & that it was indeed a hostile environment & later Clinton did indeed visit the front lines. But gee, she said they were rushed off the tarmac when they really were not. Yup. That’s something to be really concerned with – not someone lieing about sitting in a church listening to hate filled sermons directed at the country he wants to lead.

Posted by: FromMaine | March 24, 2008, 4:12 pm 4:12 pm

She has absolutely not lied!
This is a non issue distraction.
Report on her speech report on NATO, report on the confirmation that her plane landed under fire near enough to cause concern.
This garbage is not news.

I am yet undecided but I’m kinda surprised how America would alone herself to always be intoxicated with the Clintons. The have done worse crime than any other American leader in or out of office yet Americans are even willing to listen to them.
Obama is been cricified everyday, not for what he said, but for what his former pastor said which makes so much since IF the entire sermon is reviewed. If it was Obama that lied the way Hillary did, the whole media will be all over the place. Double standard I must say.
Maybe if hillary becomes president, then Chelsea and who knows, maybe Bill again. We can criticise dictators like Mugabe, North Korea et al if we cannot tell an ambitious family the truth. that to me is HYPOCRISY.

s.b. he served, if anyone has the right to be a critic of our government it is a person who has put their life on the line to defend it. It isn’t so much that he said Goddamn America, it is that the reasons why he said it were too damn close to the damn truth. America has flaws, our government has been a participant and perpetrator of atrocitities at home and abroad. If you are going to love this country, you love all of it, including taking responsibility for the less lovable parts of our history and present and well as taking responsibility for our future. To try and stand by some claim that we are somehow perfect by virtue of being American is naive and childish.

Nothing and I mean nothing can undo the video of Wright and those hate filled comments that Obama and his wife financially and emotionally supported for 20 years. I don’t care if they had a video of Clinton at a dog fight the horror of Pastorgate is etched in the minds of the typical person.

So wait a minute, now you claim Obama’s camp found the footage to prove Hillary a liar? That’s what good journalists do, they don’t need to waste time proving that Hillary overstates her resume. Noone made Hillary lie about the trip. Sinbad refuted her and she demeened him as being a comedian. Well the joke is on you now Hillary. Those too blind to see will overlook this, but if we can go to Iraq and lose 4,000 good Americans based on a self-serving lie, what do you think is next. Obama is sitting in church with a bunch of lunnies and Hillary is basically fabricating her resume. I have done my research and can confidently say that 70% of her so-called experience are LIES. This will sink her eventually. The truth will come out.
As for Obama, since he seems to be the less of two evils, he needs to leave that lunatic church.

Alex: Who came up with this “entitlement” or “inevitable” baloney? No candidate or their spouse is going to promote themselves that way. Did she come into the race with lots of name recognition? Certainly, but if anyone possibly believes that she hasn’t put her heart and soul into this campaign, they’re delusional. That’s what has inspired her supporters and drawn even more people to her side. Many of us, when the going gets tough, just want to draw those covers over our head and plead “not today”. She is so tenacious and the breadth of knowledge and command of issues continue to blow me away – and, she loves talking about real, concrete issues. I’ve always said: If she were a man, there’d be a coronation; If Obama were a woman, he’d never have made it past the first debate. So, enough of “I used to be a Clinton supporter….” GO HILLARY!!!! In fact, I’m putting my money where my mouth is and making my second online contribution right now! So Alex, you just inspired me to do something concrete. Thanks.

Hillary Clinton is LEADING in Pennsylvania according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll by a margin of 53% – 41%. These polls are the most accurate as they are not conducted by newspapers who endorse one candidate over the other. Expect more attacks on Hillary Clinton as she continues to gain strength with voters. Each candidate’s support is becoming more racially divided. So much for harmony… To those who are undecided, please see the detailed strategy that Ms. Clinton has proposed for stimulating the economy, reducing foreclosures & generating more jobs. Thank you!

Hillary is using all of this “expertise” in foreign travel as the reason she would make a better president than Obama. It’s not as if it’s in her autobiography and that’s the only place she mentioned it. She’s using it in a campaign speech to try and show why she should be President. The Obama camp has every reason to call her out on the lie.

Posted by: Sue Anne | March 24, 2008, 4:40 pm 4:40 pm

Obama is weak …has no back bone, and lets everyone else say the Dirty things he wants to say …Because he says he’s running a clean campaign,…He really needs to give that up because everyone can see that he is not…All he wants to do is TALK..About what he wants to do …Talking will not take care of the problems that are facing America…..Hillary is trying to focus on real Issues… But all Obama wants to do is focused more on whether Hillary Clinton had orchestrated … First Lady years…We can see clearly who wants to help the American people…All Obama wants to do is talk about change … Well who doesn’t want change after Bush……No we all want the same as we have today Obama …HERS’S YOUR SIGN…Lets have a debate with him and Hillary…thats what i want to see happen…And you can tell the Americans again that you agree with Hillary.

Posted by: Patricia | March 24, 2008, 4:40 pm 4:40 pm

Of course, all the Hillary supporters want to change the subject. “Can’t we just talk about the issues?”
Remember when she said, “If your campaign’s going to be about words, they should be your own?”
Well, when your campaign is about “experience,” you should not pad your resume. In the past ten days we have learned conclusively that (i) her exaggeration of her role in the Northern Ireland peace accords is, according to a Nobel-prize-winning participant (Trimble), “a wee bit silly;” (ii) she misled the voters of Ohio about her supposed opposition to NAFTA during the Clinton administration (turns out she acted as cheerleader at a handful of meetings); (iii) she didn’t negotiate an opening of the borders in Kosovo, as she claimed; and (iv) she has outright lied (oh, I’m sorry, “misspoke”) about landing in Tuzla under sniper fire.
This isn’t “negative campaigning.” This is exposing the entire basis of the Clinton campaign as an out-and-out fraud.

Posted by: jac13 | March 24, 2008, 4:40 pm 4:40 pm

I have been following this election campaign and the media coverage for quite some time. It has become clear now that democracy in America is nothing but a mis-nomer, a big joke. After some four hundred years of history in this country, some people still seem to have difficulty transcending their deep-seated prejudices to see a black man running for president. This iis precisely why there are all these petty revelations and red-herrings get thrown around, mostly by the media, only to become recycled again and again by some arm-chair pundits and kitchen-table politicians and experts. Hilary Clinton and her husband belong to a different era, an era that is out of sync with the aspirations of the younger people. It has always been the media that has made the choice for us, but this time, those who have seen through all this game of name and shame and mud-slinging know that Obama is the voice of change in this country, Something that is long long over-due, and not the fossils of the Washington establishment with their big fat bank accounts and their lies. It is all about economics. The moment the food on the table starts shrinking, people begin to scapegoat others. They fail to see the bigger picture. Try and rise above this fray of chattering classes and give change a chance.

Posted by: Henry | March 24, 2008, 4:41 pm 4:41 pm

This is just another minor issue that the media and Obama campaign are blowing up to make themselves sound better. This is pathetic for the Obama Campaign. Find something that relates to today. Now this story is going to be all over the news while the Wright story is almost gone. God, some people are just so clueless as to Obama’s true character.

Posted by: Jonath | March 24, 2008, 4:42 pm 4:42 pm

Hillary Clinton, who was a Goldwater Republican during her college years at Wellesley, really hasn’t changed much. She will lie about her record to get elected, but the truth keeps seeping out. She championed NAFTA as First Lady, but now says she was against it. She voted for the war in Iraq, but now says she was against it. And her fairy tales about her foreign policy experience are just laughable. Most Democrats are for Obama. He has the most delegates, the most votes, the most states, and it is time for Hillary to do what is right for the Party and the Nation (instead of what’s craved by the Clintons) and step aside, so Democrats can get united and win in November!

Posted by: Andrew | March 24, 2008, 4:42 pm 4:42 pm

sb, Clinton’s trips were paid by us the taxpayers. These trips were excursions for her with great hospitality from host countries. Where would you get that as a private citizen. You will need to book your own room. So, you can call these foreign policy trips – having tea with dignitaries. It is exegerated resume building, I say.

Posted by: silkwool | March 24, 2008, 4:43 pm 4:43 pm

Every politician embellishes. But Clinton’s claim about the danger in Tuzla in 1996 was trotted out to support her claim that she would be “more experienced” as commander-in-chief. I guess that’s so, if receiving flowers from little girls counts as experience.
This episode points to a major weakness to her claims of ‘experience,’ reflected in her recently released daily schedules as well: she was not making executive decisions as the spouse of a US president, so these claims of ‘experience’ ring hollow. The two biggest instances of executive management on her resume– health care in 1993 and now her campaign in 2007-8– by all accounts were fraught from the beginning with mistaken assumptions, poor management and oversight, and constant infighting.
Is this really what we want from our chief executive?

Posted by: carmen | March 24, 2008, 4:44 pm 4:44 pm

There is validity to this issue – we can’t just dismiss it. Hillary has a very poor favorably rating and trustworthy – she is not.
I have no problem with misquotes but this one issue (Bosnia) doesn’t fall into that category.
This is a serious issue. I do not want to have to question a conflicting message between the president, congress and the like. I see this situation developing just because of this trust and honesty issue. She can’t pad her words to us and run our government. Doesn’t work. It will only build more bridges between congressional members, the senate, our foreign leaders, us and on and on.
Sorry but hillary really has outrighted lied, exgarrated enough times in just these last two weeks. How many bought what she said and how many found the truth from the reporters. Did you believe her when she told you the first time around?
Running a country is a BIG DEAL.

Posted by: respect001122 | March 24, 2008, 4:47 pm 4:47 pm

Anyone who thinks riding over to Bosnia when you are an American citizen is just like a carnival with cotton candy and funnel cakes is sadly mistaken. Do we not admit that Bosnia is a war torn country? So she may have exaggerated, but the fact remains that she actually traveled there and was apart of something. Obama exaggerates every single day. He has to, he hasn’t done anything.

MISSPEAK = “To speak mistakenly or inappropriately”
MISLEAD = “To lead into error of thought or action, esp. by intentionally deceiving”
Given the number of times HRC repeated the story, the word MISLEAD more accurately describes what HRC did. They were quite deliberate misstatements intended to lead listeners to a thought or an action.
Besides, if HRC REALLY believes these events transpired the way she relayed them, shouldn’t we be questioning whether she has passed the “DEMENTIA THRESHOLD TEST”?

Posted by: Vanessa | March 24, 2008, 4:48 pm 4:48 pm

I just want to know why the clinton supporters are getting unglued about this report. The matter is very simple. Senator Clinton in the attempt to contrast her record of “foreign policy” from that of Senator Obama, said she put her life in jeopardy when she went to Bosnia in 1996. She even went to lengths describing the event in details. Many have already disputed that, but now there is proof that she wasn’t exactly telling the truth about the event.
I see absolutely nothing wrong for the Obama camp to provide proof that Clinton’s claim of experience doesn’t hold water. Are you telling us that the Clinton’s wouldn’t do the same? It is not negative campaigning when one provide truth on exaggerated credentials. It’s negative campaigning when one makes racial stereotypic insinuation to entice fear and hatred among the voters. Ferraro, Pres. Clinton, and many other prominent people in the Clinton camp have done it. Such tactics have long term negative effects on race relationships in our country.

This wouldn’t be such a big deal, EXCEPT for the fact she kept repeating this story over and over as a reason to vote for her. Hillary seems like she did a great job as First Lady. But to suggest these years as “experience” for being the President is quite a leap! And to lie about it makes me question her character.

Hillary is a “liar” about her experience. On the other hand, Obama doesn’t have anything to lie about (except that he is not clear whether he knows Rev. Wright or not). He got an empty suit. Taking W. Bush out of WH is the biggest change we want. I don’t know what else he can claim to do more than that. Taking the old Washington’s politician out? Then his campaign manager (David Plouffe, big DC loser) and rest of the team, his superdelegates and US political infustructure will be all out of job. Obama supporters, look into the substances before you commit to such real politician/liar.

Did Obama lie recently about “not knowing” any of the controversial statements that JEremiah Wright preached? Do either of these two things matter at the end of the day? No. We are electing a President. I want someone strong in there who hasn’t made “bonehead” decisions already. That is gonna either be John McCain or Hillary CLinton.

The Clintons!
Bill Clinton for years has been my best living president. One who understands the difficulties of humanity. I loved that and I loved him too.
In the wake of 08 Democratic primary though, the clintons have presented themselves as the owners of the Democratic Party, and have giving the sense that they are so smart and everyone else is so folish.
The Claims about Ireland was untrue, the claim on Bosnia has turned out a lie.
Recently in North Carolina Clinton said Obama is unpatriotic, and the Clinton camp is currenly desperately using the media to deny his statement and deviate attention from it.
In Newhamshire, Clinton labelled Obama’s “run for president” “the biggest fairy” then, used the media for several week to change the meaning. The media bought it that he meant the “Iraq war” not Obama’s run for president.
In South Carolina Bill Clinton said “Jesse Jackson won South Caronlina” Implication! No big deal! Jesse Jackson did not win the nomination after that anyway.
If this is what the clintons are, I cannot change their politics, but I remain disappointed with them.
Everyone is not as folish as the Clintons beleive and media must stop believing them too.

Yep. This is certainly on par with “I never heard it” — speaking to Anderson Cooper about 20 years of sermons and hate speech followed two days later with “I did hear it ….”
The Gang That Can’t Shoot Straight … what’s happening with Passport Gate by the way, did you find Senator Clinton’s finger prints on your files? LOL

What i find soooo sad is that we can’t simply stick to the issues. I’m sorry, but the Clinton campaign started with the negatives first. Obama tried to take the high road, but in so doing got pounded like in Ohio, when Hillary flat out lied about NAFTA and knew that she was lying. And she kept repeating the lie about Obama’s people telling the Canadians something different than what Obama had said regarding Nafta, when in fact her campaign was the ones who spoke first to the Canadians. I really believe that Obama wanted to have a different type of campaign but that doesn’t seem to be the type of politics that Hillary can participate in. If she had spent half the amount of energy on her own campaign as she has spent trying to discredit Obama, she would undoubtedly be in the lead and by now the superdelegates would have told him to try again next time. She shot her own self in the foot with this inevitability stuff and now is grasping at any straw within reach to hold on. It is stupid for people to keep saying “but I thought he wanted to run a clean campaign, now look at what he’s doing.” back. You cannot take a knife to a gunfight…or maybe you can, but you’ll probably lose. So if Hillary continues to run a lowball campaign, then Obama has to respond in kind. If Bill Clinton wants respect, then he needs to give it.

Whaddaya know, another Hillary campaign claim is a LIE?! If just being First Lady is enough experience to become President, then why didn’t Mamie Eisenhower run, for God’s sake?
As it turns out, Hillary’s foreign policy experience consists of eagerly welcoming Yasser Arafat, the Father of Modern Terrorism, to a dozen of her husband’s White House dinners.
P.S., I loved it when Clinton minion James Carville called Bill Richardson “Judas”–and actually said it on Good Friday! Yeah, real sensitive there, Gollum!

As usual, too many of you are content to spin words out of context. No matter what the warnings and descriptions were for the landing and the security of the event, someone is always willing to spin it to mean something else. For instance, supposed racial slurs, supposed lack of patriotism, supposed fairy tale, and on and on. The only hope Obama has in winning the nomination is to bring out all of the Republican spin he can to damage someone’s character. He should be more concerned about his own as the public learns more about him. So much for hope and unity. He does not have a chance of becoming President, even if he manages somehow to gain the nomination. His true color is becoming truer–green.

Big lies versus little truths.
Con artists use this strategy all the time. Bill Clinton does it instictively. Hillary is coached by the master.
Little truths establish credibility. Big lies are used to counter impressions that can be parsed, countered and rewritten. No factual anecdote? No problem, make one up.
Look for the big, high-risk lies they tell and you have profile of the Clinton’s biggest weaknesses.
The definition of a con artist is someone who can perfectly imitate the actions of an honest person.

I couldn’t agree more that the entire election should be on issues but both parties have wandered into the periphery issues. Both have overstated their own credentials, even their own honest supporters have to admit that. But, today’s revelation is just too far off the envelope for Hillary….to make such outrageous claims when there is video footage by the major networks showing that what she said was o gross exaggeration….not just misspoken. One thing to misstate, another tpo attack the intelligence of the American public and, yes, the media, thinking they wouldn’t verify what she said trying herself to make herself a hero——5 1/2 years a POW versus a lie about being shot at once. Posted by: moe | March 24, 2008, 6:11 pm 6:11 pm

The fact that she was not under fire as she claimed in Bosnia is not a big deal. What is a big deal is this underlying deceitfulness and feeling that Hillary will say anything she can to get elected. She is not truthful and always wants to have everything both ways. She just goes with whatever she thinks will get her votes. She is a skilled politician but has no morals when it comes to getting her way. Obama cannot be held responsible for the statements of his pastor, or Clinton for the statements of Ferraro, but Clinton can and should be held accountable for her own double-edged double-talk.

Posted by: J | March 24, 2008, 6:13 pm 6:13 pm

People make what they want to of any situation, citing the dangers in varying degrees. If someone is told sniper fire has been reported in the mountains around the airport landing, advised to sit in a more fortified area of the plane, and knows full well the horrendous events of the war in Bosnia with thousands being killed, in my mind, I would be well aware of the dangers and cognizant of what precaution measures were being taken. Others might not have been advised of such possible dangers. Hillary Clinton is a knowledgeable and careful person. What might now be seen on news film of the airport is not a thorough assessment of what was actually going on behind the scenes. What looks completely safe and normal may not have been. Did someone time the meeting at the airport? I would not rely on Sinbad or the media to know everything that was going on. Spin this item to death, if you will, but my faith is in the person who spoke of the trip from her perspective. This story is a spin story.

More smears and lies about Obama:
NAFTA: The great Hillary press has constantly REFUSED to report on the fact that one of her surrogates went to the Canadian embassy in Washington and told them not to worry, she really didn’t mean it, either.
Controversial statements heard by Obama by the Reverend Wright: he addressed the nature of those comments, and they weren’t the stuff that is making the rounds, as much as you would love them to be: apparently, the good pastor spoke graphically about the sin of infidelity and other social problems.
Gosh, too bad you Obama haters can’t read. You can save yourself a heck of a lot of embarrassment when you go around telling lies—oh, wait! You are just emulating Hillary!!!!!

I actually had a chance to look at tape of Wright in his sermons. He sure does use words to provoke but “chickens coming home to roost line” is in the context of the US creating collateral damage as acceptable in a conflict. We as a government say this is a sad but a part of war and it has been that way since Dresden/Hiroshima/Nagasaki.
In the “God Dam America” quote he is saying God is unchanging: God is and always will be a God of Love; God is and always will be a God of Justice; God is and always will be a God of Truth. Governments are not like that. Race based laws were chosen against Native Americans, African slaves, Japanese internees. These are not what God wanted but what the American government wanted. God is not going to change and this government can be changed. To always say “God Bless America” when the laws are against God’s will is incorrect and then you should rightly say: “God Damn America”. [All parties argue against the power structure of the opposition party.]

No one can “steal” the democratic nomination from anyone. To steal implies that it has belonged to someone, which it has not.
Still waiting for you to solve that math problem for the rest of us…
I’m guessing that since you haven’t answered it by now that you realize that your argument is flawed since Obama has to rely on the SUPERDELEGATES to get him to 2,025. This is the same math that could also give Clinton the 2,025 to clinch the nomination. And since Bill Richardson kindly reminded us that supers can vote their independent judgment, this election is FAR from over.
Nice work, omentum. You’re absolutely correct — it’s the delegates, stupid.

Posted by: LOM | March 25, 2008, 1:54 am 1:54 am

WELL LOM
Thanks for the lesson hypothetical world of statistical polls. They change daily
But if I may school you….
It would be wise to stick with the facts. The delegates that have been already pledged. Stick with the fact that there is no way Hillary can overtake Barack in the Delegates…. Remember … it is all about the delegates

Posted by: omentum | March 25, 2008, 2:01 am 2:01 am

People need to realize this is gotcha tactics – its politics! When you compare records, accomplishments, command of the issues, voter confidence, experience, resumes, etc. then you will really be basing your vote on substance. Dont let the media sway your vote! Do you research with unbiased nonpartisan websites. Dont rely on MSM projections, do the real math… learn how it really works! This will not be decided until the convention and it is going to be close enough that a small number of pledged delegates changing their vote legally at the convention may just swing the nomination so the superdelegates do not matter as much. But the bottom line is, neither candidate can win without them unless a large portion of the peldged delegates swing which is not likely. If the court orders FL or MI delegates seated… all bets are off on who is leading.

Posted by: DCVoter | March 25, 2008, 2:02 am 2:02 am

omentum – pledged delegates are pledged based on an electorate snapshot. They are not pledged after the first round of voting. All of them can vote for whomever at the convention just like superdelegates. You might want to learn the real facts before assuming you know them. This is well documented in the DNC rules and was covered by three news sources that I know of in the past few days. Both camps admit they will be going after pledged delegate votes at the convention.

I remember watching Bill Clinton in the first few months of office after his election. After six months, and after also watching Hillary move around him emotionally, I told myself that Hillary was posturing herself emotionally in order to run for president herself in the future. Well, who knew?!!!
And, concerning this “NEW” story of Bosnia. A news clip had Hillary commenting after being home from Bosnia a few months that she would make up a good story about it in order to look like she can face danger if she ever needed that image in the future.
I SAY SHE ALSO HAD A SENIOR MOMENT!!! “MISSPOKE” IS NOT NOW A POLITICALLY CORRECT TERM FOR CONVENIENTLY LYING?
I’m Republican and just love watching these two. But now they are dragging themselves into the ground trying to reframe our mindsets. OBAMA HAS WON!!
MCCAIN IS MAKING NATIONAL SECURITY THE KEY ISSUE AS MUCH AS HE CAN IN THE MINDS OF THE PEOPLE BECAUSE HE CAN’T WIN ON THE OTHER ISSUES. CONSTANTLY DRAG THE OTHER ISSUES INTO THE LIMELIGHT DEMOCRATS AND SHOW MCCAIN”S WEAKNESS OR YOU WILL NEVER WIN!!
MY BEEF IS THAT AT THIS TIME, THE ECONOMY AND THE OTHER ISSUES ARE THE KEY NOW. I’M TIRED OF MCCAIN!! HE HAS NO EXPERTISE.
IRAQ CAN GET TO WHERE THEY TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES IF WE JUST KEEP PROVIDING MILITARY SUPPORT FOR A WHILE LONGER. THEY ARE PUTTING SO MANY ECONOMIC POLICIES IN PLACE TO BE RICHER THAN SAUDIA ARABIA!! In the 90′s, Sadaam wanted to do what is being done this very year but he knew it would take money and someone like the US to help train them and provide machinery so they wouldn’t be totally taken advantage of!
THEY ARE MOVING FASTER NOW THAN MANY EXPECT AND I’VE HEARD ON NEWS RADIO OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN THERE AND AMONG TE PEOPLE THAT THE LEADERS WANT TO LOOK LIKE IT IS GOING SO SLOW TO GET A LOT OF AID!!! AND, THEY DO HAVE ISSUES AND NO ONE EXPECTED INSURGENCIES LIKE THIS!
THEY ARE GOING TO DOUBLE THEIR CURRENT OIL PRODUCTION IN TEN YEARS WITH THE HELP OF US AND BRITAIN COMPANIES. THEY ARE GOING TO HELP BUILD A PIPELINE INTO EUROPE TO PROVIDE THIS NEW OIL TO IRAN, TURKEY, AND EUROPE.

Well it’s bothersome that you trust what comes out in blogs as true, but that’s your right. It helps when you see it in mainstream media though you can’t always count on getting an unbiased reporting of it. On a blog though, you can almost bet the bank on getting a biased view. So I guess I’ll wait till I see it on one of the real news channels before I bother to watch yet antother anit-hillary smear.

This board is littered with half-truths, wishful thinking, purposeful distortions — are you all liars too? Almost every story has atleast 2 sides -if you bothered to actually evaluate the source and credibility of information and to understand how things work – you might see the world isn’t so black & white.
Bosnia – the negative spin that’s out now vs visits to 3 bases 12 yrs ago which could be mixed up (and no, Sinbad didn’t her accompany her to all the places/meetings she had); Walmart — criticism for her board actions vs 1)labor/health care issues didn’t rise to natl interest until few years ago, not during her term, and 2) if everyone who criticised HRC for being on the board actually doesn’t shop at Walmart, the Bentonville crew wouldn’t be half as rich; her campaigns alleged innuendos vs Obama’s very public depiction of her as unethical, liar, flawed, and more; her taking lobbyist money vs “guess where most political campaign funds come from” (BO is no slouch either); greatest number of earmarks vs senator for NY which contributes more to fed budget from taxes than many states put together. Goes on and on … Give it a rest -

The bad news for Mrs Clinton is the media will now start looking at all her other “mis-statments”.

Posted by: Davis | March 25, 2008, 7:04 am 7:04 am

Dorothy It’s the resemblance to what the Republicans use as their spin every time in their attempts against the Clintons, and how the Obama supporters embrace it that gives it the disturbing conclusions one could assume from it. I wonder who will write their material if Obama wins the nomination and they have to think up their own to use against him.

‘At an event in Washington last Monday, Sen. Clinton said, “There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.”‘
That’s a MISSTATEMENT??? Are you KIDDING??? That’s a WHOLE STORY!!!
I find it really hard to believe that *anyone* couldn’t see this as a blatant LIE. So, Clinton supporters, what say you? Still blindly following her?
It’s people like the Clintonistas that put George W. into office.
God help us all if this woman is the nominee.

Karen There is truth to that I have to admit, I have no doubt that because of how you describe as “Still blindly following her” at least 25% of Clinton supporters will vote against Obama if Hillary isn’t the nominee. Some of us do feel that strongly about it, and that can be called blind loyal by some, but to others it’s an ideal or principle. Either way, they have a history of it, so I guess time will tell how that aspect of it plays out.

Why can’t journalists and the general public see Clinton’s “misstatement” is a deliberate lie, a false and misleading story, a calculated effort to represent herself to the American public as someone other than her real self?
If you caught your child recasting an athletic event in this fashion, would be OK? Would you be proud, or upset that your child would lie in this way?

Typical Clinton….lying, conniving, attempting to change history for her benefit. With the White House as the prize, it is clear she will do ANYTHING to win. Be careful what you wish for, America.

How can Hillary’s supporters dismiss all the lies that she tells. This dishonest and we should look at it for what it is. I find it ironic that you can bash Obama but when it is Hillary it just misspoken. There is some double standards here. I believe there is a motive behind the Hillary supporters, and it is not who will be best for our country.

Posted by: Emilianna | March 25, 2008, 7:41 am 7:41 am

Now lets see, which is worst a liar or man who attends a church with a minister we don’t like? Like the Clintonista always say, “words do matter.” Even more so when they are your own words and not those of your surrogates. Whether or not it is “fish story” this is one in a long line of “fish stories” she has been caught in. Let’s see (1) SHE said she was instrumental in getting the health program SChip passed, the media and the senators who worked for passage of the bill provided proof she was not; (2) SHE said she was involved in negotiating peace in Ireland, the Irish leaders said she was not; (3)SHE said was a part of an important event in Bosnia that the press footage proved actually happened a month before she arrived; (4) SHE said she was involved in major policy decisions as first lady, when the records prove she did not have the security clearance to allow her be involved at this level. Fish Stories, Lies, Embellishments, Half-truths, Mispoken words. They all amount to the same thing. Another Clinton rewriting reality to suit them.

Hillary told people these lies so they would vote for her instead of Obama, so it is NOT just something in “the past”, but speaks about her character and how she will mislead the public to get things to go her way.
Hillary says she wants to help the middle class, but look at how rich she is and also, how she met several times near the end of Bill Clinton’s presidency with Denise Rich and then, right before Clinton left office, he pardoned billionaire Rich for evading taxes so he wouldn’t have to live overseas….I wonder how much that billionaire has contributed to Hillary’s campaign.
Also, if you hear Clinton “misspeak”, just remember that Vincent Foster, her aid during Bill’s presidency mysteriously died right before he was going to resign because of the White Water scandal. There is video footage of Foster entering the White House. Later, his body is found and there is no footage of Foster leaving White House. Also, his files mysteriously and very quickly disappeared and two letters in his safe box disappeared. This all goes to show that you can’t trust Hillary or believe anything she says, because it’s all twisted–lies upon other lies to cover up other lies and deceive the public.
Just ask yourself why she is resisting releasing her White House records and why so many are missing that have been released
WHAT IS HILLARY HIDING?
WHY DOES HILLARY HAVE TO LIE SO MUCH IN ORDER TO TRY AND WIN?
VOTE OBAMA VOTE OBAMA VOTE OBAMA

NIt2WinIt:
There is no math in the Huffingtonpost article. It is just a Hillary supporter trying to desperately persuade us that she still has a chance. Any unbiased analysis of the situation shows Hillary has little to no chance to catch Obama in either elected delegates or popular vote. He has amassed of lead of over 160 elected delegates, a few at a time, over the 40 contests completed. Due to proportional allocation this is a huge lead with only 10 contests left. Also considering FL and MI are now off the table it puts Hillary in losing situation no matter how you look at it. Her only slim hope is that the vast majority of the superdelegates will somehow decide to override the elected delegate majority and give her the nomination. That is a huge longshot and getting longer by the day. Its over and has been over for quite sometime. The media has been prolonging it because she’s a Clinton and because it was good for their ratings.

People say, “so what that Hillary can’t remember exactly what happened 12 years ago.” However, her book, “Living History” was printed in 2003. That’s only 5 years ago. She and her “Wolf”son keep touting that it and other statement’s in that book are accurate so her memory must be really bad. It’s amazing she can’t remember something she felt was so scary. I can remember things that scared me when I was a child and I’m 48 years old. Maybe she has Alzheimers and needs to step down from public office to seek help. Or maybe she’ll say anything or do anything to get a vote. While in Ohio, she was adamant that she was always against NAFTA and yet, her own records and the people she spoke to all remember differently. She told Ohio a lie because she knew NAFTA affected them economically and she couldn’t admit she did her part in supporting it because she wouldn’t get their vote. Now, she’s in Pennsylvania touting her foreign policy experience and lying about her Tuzla adventure in an effort for votes. So what, she’s been to 80 countries. (Are we sure she can even remember that many and if she can remember that many how come she can’t remember what she said 5 years ago?) I can name lots of people who’ve been to numerous countries, whether it be they worked there or just visited. It doesn’t give her or them entitlement to foreign policy experience. Now lets see, my 2 sons are serving in Iraq and my 3 nephews have served in Iraq. They’ve spent far more time with foreigners from all classes and had many more one on one experiences with them than Hillary, so I believe they’ve got more foreign policy experience than she does with her shaking hands as she gets off a plane or spending an hour or two with designated individuals. The Clintons serve the Clintons, not America. They didn’t get wealthy serving America, they got wealthy serving big corporate interests. One example, from 2005 to 2007 Bill Clinton had $31.3 million dollars funneled to him from a Canadian mining company for Bill’s involvement (they wanted him because of his title as former president and remember his wife is a U.S. Senator at this time) in helping this wealthy corporation get a mining deal in Kazakhstan, a country that America has been openly critical of because of it’s poor human rights record. People think because he was president at the time the economy got better, it was because of him. He was taking credit for unemployment rates dropping within months of his taking office. However, look how long it took for the Clinton’s NAFTA to take effect in American’s pocketbooks. I’ve heard plenty of university economic professors say that it takes years to see the effects of the current president and it’s usually after they are out of office before they are evident.

How many previous Presidents claimed to have had the so-called experience that Hillary Clinton claims to have, none and yet they were all elected President. How much experience did JFK, Reagan, Ford, Carter, Bush, Clinton, Bush, etc had any experience other than being a governor of a state. If you check the records not many had foreign policy experience, which by the way is not a requirement for the Presidency.

I’m curious during what overseas trip did HRC in fact run with her head down to get to her car? Because if she ever had done so (exit an airplane with her head down and run to an awaiting car), that would in fact mean that she ‘misspoke’ about the Bosnia trip. But more than likely, the scenario she described NEVER happened anywhere, which means she did not misspeak or embellish. It means she fabricated the entire incident.

Can he keep his temper. Can he put two or more words together and actually make a complete sentence or even write his own speech. Obama has all that and more. Face it people HRC is done and it is time to focus on Mr McCain.

Posted by: JENNY | March 25, 2008, 9:07 am 9:07 am

Alexis –
You don’t need to worry about that too much. The elitist leaders of the party will never let Obama into the fray. He isn’t as much of a Washington insider as Hillary is. Mainly, he isn’t electable. A lot of people who voted for Obama early in the primaries wouldn’t vote for him now and a lot of those who voted for other early candidates will vote for McCain before Obama. Clinton and McCain love Mexico more than they like the US. Obama doesn’t like the US at all. I don’t know who will win the election, but America will loose.

At this time, I can’t tell whether HRC or partner Bill is winning in their quest for the title of executive sleazoid. But make no mistake about it, she has no shortage of mistatements, distortions, fabrications and outright lies to use as tools in her quest for the throne. Consider this if she actually reaches her goal and perceives any threat to her entitled position. Heil Hillary!!

In the beginning I was for Hillary, only because I liked Bill. ;) I try not to get caught up in all the back and forward bickering between candidates. I try to look at the facts. So what, Hillary lied, don’t all politicians? I’m 30 and never voted but wanted to this time as I see our country heading downhill and I want it to be better for my 3 year old daughter. I’m not too happy about the war in Iraq but understand why we are there, I’m a former grunt so I see both sides of the fence. I don’t think any one candidate is best for the job but out of the three left I think I’m going to vote McCain. I was always democratic and didn’t care for the way republicans spend money. But, if you look at it McCain was a POW and has a military background, so I think he’s best for the job. Personally I think we need to clean house and start over with people who are not lawyers but people who have lived in the shoes of the middle class and have struggled to pay bills. I really wish Huckabee would have made it. He seemed to be the only one that has been where we are. Only time will tell who makes it. I hope we as Americans will make the right choices as it will affect our childrens lives.

Hillary’s memory of the Bosnia trip is in part supported by others who were there. What they were told to expect and what actually happened were two different things. Hillary’s memory of the event was less than that in actuality. On the otherhand, we have Obama’s accounting of the amount of money he received from Rezko…80 thou? 125 thou? oh, it may have been 250 thou…uh,huh. Memories do deceive don’t they?

Posted by: sparklewdc | March 25, 2008, 12:15 pm 12:15 pm

Hillary took a page from Roger Clemens who “misremembered”. Was Hillary ever shot at? I don’t think that would become an unreliable memory. A useful exaggeration maybe. I love how Chelsea backed up her mom’s errant memory. Maybe Cheryl Crow and Sinbad aren’t so inexact with their accounts.

Posted by: Paul | March 25, 2008, 12:35 pm 12:35 pm

Senator Clinton owned up to misspeaking without trying to explain it away. McCain owned up to misspeaking without trying to explain it away. Obama has consistently tried to explain away every incident of “misspeaking” he and his surrogates have done. Think about credibility there – kids who intentionally lie will try to explain it away over and over as Obama has been doing. People who make a mistake or remember something incorrectly own up to it and move on. So I do not think this takes away from any credibility anymore than McCain misspeaking in Jordan about Sunnis and Shiites. Obama’s credibility is very much in question because of his actions.
Personally, with some inside knowledge of how things work in the military activities, there was a First Lady on board heading to a country that could be dangerous to visit at that time, personnel support the memory of preparation inside the vehicle and the protection given to the First Lady as appropriate, the reception seen in the video was not one fitting of a First Lady and most likely was not the planned location, so while she misspoke it was 12 years ago and likely a muddled mess of memories… if the military personnel had not corraborated her memory inside the vehicle I would not be so lenient.
When Obama couldnt remember what state he was in 5 minutes after speaking to its residents at an event (Wyoming), I cut him some slack even though it is obvious the stress is getting to him. Each candidate has 1 incident I cut them some slack on. Is it so hard for others to do that also?

Posted by: DCVoter | March 25, 2008, 12:37 pm 12:37 pm

How convenient that the “misstatement” presents her in a favorable light. Let’s be honest…She’ll say absolutely anything to get elected. No one’s surprised when she lies…that’s why Hillary’s credibility numbers are and always have been such a serious problem with her. She’s a wold class liar just like her husband.
This is only one example of how her presidential bid has suffered as a direct result of her previous lies. The arrogant and crass way she and Bill have treated people in the past is catching up with her.

Posted by: Don | March 25, 2008, 12:42 pm 12:42 pm

I can imagine that now we have to update the classic ”Pinocchio” for political correctness to state something along the lines of “his nose grew bigger when he misspoke”.

Posted by: kene | March 25, 2008, 12:43 pm 12:43 pm

All that remains to be done with this rediculous burning at the stake is to identify the trip when Clinton and her entourage did have to hurry to their vehicles. We all watched TV coverage of children sledding and old people trying to get drinking water when they were mercilessly killed by sniper fire. Warnings of sniper fire in the mountains surrounding the airport were real. If one detail is not correct about this landing, heads down and hurrying to awaiting vehicles, it does not mean that it never happened in a similar situation. Some or you are trying to make more of this lapse in memory than what it is. Everyone can misstate a detail every now and then. If you say you don’t, who is lying? Clinton has made more than 80 foreign visits. This is not a “swift-boating” story. Worry more about Rezko and Wright in this continuing campaign. As for foreign relations experience, Obama has none, unless you want to count his Kenyan father and his family in Africa.

Posted by: georgia | March 25, 2008, 12:56 pm 12:56 pm

Then pray tell GEORGIA,
When has HILLARY CLINTON EVER, during her time in the white house been under “sniper fire” and had to “run with her head down”.
This is open for anyone else to answer. It doesn’t necessary have to be in Bosnia, it can be anywhere else in the world that she has traveled.
I’ll wait for you to support your claims that a “lapse in memory” can happen.

MG and Jazz, If you wait long enough, you will have it. After you pour over all the released schedules, it will be there. When you find it, please verify my claim so that everyone can have a crow dinner.
Does “under sniper fire” mean reports in the mountains, in the immediate vicinity, or on the airport tarmac? How close is close enough, if telescopic lens are involved? I am not certain how far the snipers were from children sledding, or old people trying to get a jug of water on a snowy winter’s day. Come to think of it, it might have been a sunshiny day, or perhaps it was raining. Actually, I watched so much news during the Bosnian War that the details sometimes get interchanged. Imagine that!

Given a choice between Hilliary and Obama, I’ll choose McCain….!

These two make John Kerry look like a good democratic candidate. Where is he again?

On his twenty-third bombing mission over North Vietnam later in 1967, he was shot down, badly injured, and captured as a prisoner of war by the North Vietnamese. He spent five and a half years as a prisoner of war, including periods of torture, before he was released in accordance with the Paris Peace Accords in 1973.

McCain has already come under fire. Real fire. But he was also shooting back! Go John.

How could Hillary get something so
important, so wrong? This does not look
good because it makes McCains’ errors
last week seem intelligent.
If a person was ever “under sniper fire”, shouldn’t they remember that
moment vividly and accurately?
Then she dismisses Sinbad’s account of the event by saying, “He’s a comedian”.
Perhaps it’s Hillary who’s the joke here and I don’t really know what to believe. Was she lying or just having a senior moment?
Her little white embellishment of the truth is apparently in the book she wrote too, so this is very
bad for her credibility to say the least.
Today, I was disappointed by her
arrogant comments about the fact that
she “misspoke” on this. It was sad, ya’ll. She seemed hostile and angry about her own mistake, instead of graciously admitting she was wrong. We all make mistakes, so just say I made a mistake, apologize and move on. Hillary should stop with the insults of those
she feels are inferior to her.
Hillary’s comments were like “So”, as if she were channeling Cheney. She said, “So what? I made a mistake, I’m human and that was apparently a new revelation for some people”.
This is the type of behavior that most likely caused Gov Bill Richardson to endorse Barack Obama instead of her and pres Bill last week.
Keep up the good work Hillary, cause now we’re all wondering what else you’re misleading the American people about.
I pray that you never get the chance again to become another lying president like George Bush. Been there, done that.
OBAMA 2008

Posted by: faking history? | March 25, 2008, 5:16 pm 5:16 pm

So she got caught up in a moment and embellished some. Big whoopee do! We do know Hillary HAS been to Bosnia, which is more than many can say. At the end of the day, these candidates are only human. They are not perfect by any means. They work hard, and the public should cut them slack. Why are we focusing on petty things like candidates Preacher choices and candidates mistakes,– when we really should be focusing on our country sending missiles to the wrong places! Sheesh! We are the priorities?

Posted by: Rick T. | March 25, 2008, 5:33 pm 5:33 pm

Oh, now People. Don’t be so hard on “Poor, Poor Hillary”. She’s just practicing for when (May God Forbid) she has to lie to we Americans without blinking, or twitching, or winking at Chelsea and Bill. . . You Go Girl. You’re almost as good as Bush!

Posted by: 2008TooLate | March 25, 2008, 6:36 pm 6:36 pm

“Misspoke”?,”mistaken”?, “embellished”? Haven’t you ignorant boobs ever learned the English lanquage. The correct word is “LIED” (a verb, meaning to tell an untruth., as in “I did not have sexual relations with that woman!”)

Posted by: James | March 25, 2008, 8:52 pm 8:52 pm

To Rick T, and every other Hillary and McCain supporter out there:
The point is that those dummies who
sent the missiles to Taiwan by accident
are probably saying “SO” to their bosses right about now too.
The American people are HRC’s bosses and saying “So” to US is not acceptable.
She’s not President yet, or maybe
she’s mistakken about that too.
Holding people accountable for what
they say and do in America is a real
problem. Barack has asked us to work
together to do this collectively as Americans, without fear and like the adults that we are, while Hillary and Bill keep finding ways to split us apart, then they sit back and say:
“Who, Me? The MSM is so hard on us.”
What about how it treats blacks,
hispanics and the poor. Does Katrina
TV footage ring a bell at all with you?
The bottom line is that when a President gets it wrong, people die. That’s no minor detail. 4000 people are dead from an illegal war because Bush and people like Hillary got it wrong… repeatedly.
We have to rely on better judgement
from our Leaders, other wise they
are misleaders, much better than the lies we’ve seen from Hillary or McCain.
Even though we know that
Obama is not perfect, he will not
tell us “So” when he makes a mistake.
he will approach it with wisdom
and honesty and integrity, just like he did with his speech last week. He has no
reason not to.
America has got to flip the script and
write Hillary and McCain out of it
for the sake of our children and
grandchildren. And that’s all I have
further to say about it. So how’s that for sticking to the issue.

Posted by: faking history? | March 25, 2008, 8:53 pm 8:53 pm

I disagree with DCvoter’s account that you get “inside” information as First Lady. Legally speaking, it’s wrong. Worse yet, it is a national security breach if the First Lady involves in decision making of any kind at all. You can not have the best of the both worlds. Shaking hands, hugging, and holding tea parties do not account for foreign policy experience. PERIOD.

Posted by: Tiffany | March 25, 2008, 9:20 pm 9:20 pm

So Hillary finally got caught. No wonder she resisted public view of her whitehouse records. In response to her comments about her making a mistake in recollection about the Bosnia trip, she bald-faced lied. Her recollection about not supporting NAFTA, and that it was Obama’s camp that told the Canadian that the comments were not to be taken seriously was a lie. An account of the reaction to the issue by the Canadian gov. shown on a c-span tape showed Hillary “winked”. Somewhere are tapes about the 5 meetings she held when pushing NAFTA legislation. There will be more examples of her mistatements coming in the future, I’m sure as more scrutiny is placed on her calandar. If I accept her explainations about her whitehouse experiences as qualifiers to be comander in chief, I’d say multiple job seekers have not been considered or were fired from positions because they lied about their resume was not ok and that should’nt have happened to them.

OK, let’s say that Clinton by some miracle is the nominee. Show of hands: who here doesn’t think that the GOP will grind her into a little nub over this stuff?
She repeated the sniper story at least 4 separate times, and it was still on her website earlier this week. And there’s plenty more. She’s clearly lying here, everyone can see that. Reminds us of the bad old Clinton days.

Posted by: Tungsten | March 25, 2008, 11:56 pm 11:56 pm

It was not a mistatement and I find it insulting that she would lie about this. My son was in the military really running from bullets, how dare she. Hillary wanted this kind of campaign, she said it was what politics is all about. You know the old saying,”If you can’t take it then don’t dish it out.”
Shame on you Hillary for lying when our soldiers are really in the line of fire. How dare you.

As someone who served in Bosnia with the US Army National Guard, I’m fortunate to say that I never encountered sniper fire, but had I, I am CERTAIN that I would have remembered it. Hillary’s account is a baldfaced lie calculated to embellish her “foreign policy experience”. This lie dishonors all those who have served in combat zones and risked their lives for our country.

Posted by: Todd | March 26, 2008, 2:37 am 2:37 am

I still don’t believe most people really care about politicians gaffs. Hillary embellishing her accounts in Bosnia are comparable to Obama saying he never heard his pastor’s comments while in the pews and later stated he had. Politicians make mistakes like we all do, and most people are concerned with what the issues facing them day to day, as to how they feel about the candidates.

Posted by: Rotweil | March 26, 2008, 2:59 am 2:59 am

HRC lied and it looks like Chelsey swore to it. How does that make it a mistake?

Posted by: Karen | March 26, 2008, 3:36 am 3:36 am

Yes hwddawg , part of that inconsistency problem he has when he says he didn’t know about statements his pastor makes. Just defies credibility.

Posted by: Rotweil | March 26, 2008, 5:49 am 5:49 am

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Why do we give more media attention to the frivolous mistakes of the Clintons when Bush and his evil friends literally get away with murder and torture.
I suspect the media has indeed done its job to brainwash the american public so they can continue to rape the country.
I actually think Clinton supporters are the enlightened ones and fed up with this crap.
Unfortunately the naive and the crazy evangelicals are still under the evil influence.

Posted by: IIIiiiIII | March 26, 2008, 3:30 pm 3:30 pm

“Give me a break,” to quote Bill Clinton. No credible person would label this a “mis-statement.” I could barely stand to listen to the account of this non-experience. Hillary, how can you fabricate something that would have been a terrifing experience, yet re-tell it with almost gleeful joy? It doesn’t play well for any of us.
Democrats are tired of your negativity, dishonesty and attacks (and I am a former supporter of Bill Clinton). Please do the decent thing and step back. This isn’t your time.
And if you can’t bring yourself to do what’s right for the good of the Democratic National Party, then we need our Democratic leaders to “lead,” rather than let the massacre continue.
Obama has shown integrity, honesty and good judgement. I don’t think the same can be said about the Clintons.
Disgusted in Oklahoma City.

Hillary camp is obviously trying to change the subject again. The subject folks is SHE IS A LIAR! Not the fact that she was in Bosnia with Sinbad and an 8 year old girl—some war ‘zone’. LOL.

Posted by: Ron | March 26, 2008, 8:04 pm 8:04 pm

Hillary “misspoke”, no, LIED 4 times in 4 months according to more videos CBS has discovered. There she is,large as life, standing there lying on 4 different occasions. One would naturally wonder, “What else has she been lying about?” There is one way to tell though – if her lips are moving!!

Posted by: Debby | March 26, 2008, 8:38 pm 8:38 pm

It is hysterical to watch these whinny Obama supporters and Obamabot media spokes people talk about “Hillary should concede now” They go on and on about how their candidate is wining, but are afraid to let elections happen. It’s more important to them to have Obama win than to see Democracy in action. In case you folks haven’t notice there is about an equal margin of folks that want Hillary to win, and when that happens in our country, we don’t have the other side concede, we have elections. I know it’s an annoying part of how Democracy works, and is inconvenient for Obama, but the country kind of was built on the ideal of things being decided by the people, which can’t happen till they’ve all voted.

Wow, half the Dem party is saying of the Clintons what Republicans have been saying for years! Ain’t politics fun.

I am just amused by some comments. Being a fist lady does not provide you with teh necessary or unecessary experience to become commander in chief.
Bill Clinton probably lacked of experience before h could actually give a chance to his wife to experience “something”. Clinton=Lies! Remember? “I did not have a s…. relationship with that woman” Huh??

Obama’s in his primary Senate campaign said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He is not. He is a senior lecturer (now on leave) at the school. There is a vast difference between the two titles. Professors have tenure while lecturers do not. He’s also not a constitutional professor

Posted by: Rotweil | March 27, 2008, 3:46 pm 3:46 pm

Obama also claimed credit for nuclear leak legislation that never passed. Contrary to Mr. Obama’s comments it eventually died from parliamentary wrangling in the Senate.

Mr. Obama misspoke when he relayed a story of how his mother and father fell in love because of the tumult of Selma. He was born in 1961, four years before the conflict at Selma took place. He later clarified himself, saying: ‘I meant the whole civil rights movement

Posted by: Rotweil | March 27, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm

Sen. Obama took too much credit for his community organizing efforts. Obama says he initiated and led efforts that thrust Altgeld’s asbestos problem into the headlines, pushing city officials to call hearings and a reluctant housing authority to start a cleanup. Credit for pushing officials to deal with the cancer-causing substance, according to interviews and news accounts from that period, also goes to a well-known preexisting group at Altgeld Gardens and to a local newspaper called the Chicago Reporter. Obama does not mention either one in his book.

Posted by: Rotweil | March 27, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm

Sen. Obama has said many times ‘I passed a law that put Illinois on a path to universal coverage”, but Obama’s health care legislation merely set up a task force. Just do a google search of “obama misstatements”, they’re not hard to find since there are many. Least of all why he still continues to strongly condemn the statements of the pastor who’s church he attends, yet this seems normal behavior to him and his supporters.

Posted by: Rotweil | March 27, 2008, 3:48 pm 3:48 pm

Since mid-December, when the presidential candidates turned their full attention to the Iowa caucuses, Sen. Barack Obama has led the race for good press and Sen. Hillary Clinton has lagged the farthest behind. From Dec 16 through Jan 27 five out of six on-air evaluations of Obama (84%) have been favorable, compared to a bare majority (51%) of evaluations of Mrs. Clinton. This media trend continued up to the Ohio and Texas primaries. What other candidate has ever had to not only run a campaign against their opponent, but at the same time had most of the media working against them as well. Not only has she survived this, but had a come back. How much proof do Dems need to show the leadership of Hillary Clinton and the loyalty of her supporters.

Posted by: Rotweil | March 27, 2008, 4:17 pm 4:17 pm

How can this be considered by the world community to be an open and transparent elections process that can be seen as truly expressing what Democracy is all about, if two of the 50 states don’t even have a voice. If this was something we saw of another country, we would be very outspoken in disagreement toward that country as truly being a valid Democratic process.

Posted by: Rotweil | March 27, 2008, 8:00 pm 8:00 pm

Okay, so they didn’t duck their heads. Sniper fire was a threat…They went to Bosnia, not Palm Springs. There were troops there….It’s not like she made the thing up from thin air like Obama’s parents falling in love for the first time when he was FOUR! Or that he didn’t know his Pastor had “issues”.

Posted by: irma | March 28, 2008, 1:15 am 1:15 am

Irma, Obama and his supporters would rather fault Hillary over something that happened in 1996 that she talked about now with incorrect facts, rather than look at Obama hypocritical statements condemning his pastors comments while still attending the same church. Or not knowing his pastors views, then he did know but not that much, and then he did know about the views but didn’t hear them in the pews, till the next speech, when he did hear it in the pews but still condemns the statements but still stands by him and attends the church. Can you blame them?

Posted by: Rotweil | March 28, 2008, 4:36 am 4:36 am

It is astonished to see so many Americans trying to help Hillary who lies balantly to get the votes. If this woman get the job, probably the red phone will ring all the time, not just 3 am.

Posted by: jimmy | March 29, 2008, 12:29 am 12:29 am

jimmy, I’m just as astonished how Obama supporters are mesmerized by a man who has little substance, to all of our nations problems, in his speeches. How you qualify that is up to you. Clinton supporters tend to care about what the plans, and what the actions to make those plans happen involve. This is what Obama doesn’t elaborate on, or uses the ideas from others, and helps make up the mind of the Clinton supporters over who really is prepared to be thrust in the middle of the many issues they will have to face as POTUS.

Hillary the Belle of Bosnia? —
Well maybe she is not the Bosnian Belle, and I don’t think that even the wicked news media would dare call her Senator Hillary Boom-Boom Clinton—as one can see from the video coverage of her 1996 arrival in Bosnia, there was nary any snap, crackle or pop. Rather than talking about ducking and running and sitting on flack jackets, how about claiming that she brought peace to that war-torn land; it certainly looked peaceful.
And have we ever had so much fun in our Democratic Party—with material like this, maybe the entire national convention should be held on Saturday Nigh Live?

Posted by: Sam Osborne | March 30, 2008, 1:28 pm 1:28 pm

she doesnt deserve to be president at all. she lies… and calls its misspoken. if she uses that excuse how many times have we misspoken? we lie to teacher… NOT… we just misspoke it…. A person with no morals at all and wants to line in order to become president? Heck NO!!!
