Clinton-Obama War Creates Serious Tensions at DailyKos

This is how ugly things have gotten between supporters of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama — Clinton supporters are staging what they call a "strike" at the influential liberal website DailyKos.

It’s not really a "strike" — blogging for these diarists is not a job, and stopping their blogging won’t cause them financial hardship.

But, that said, these diarists’ boycott of DailyKos is indicative of the turmoil in which the Democratic party finds itself.

Read more on their "strike" HERE.

- jpt

UPDATE: I asked Kos himself, Markos Moulitsas, what he makes of all this.

His response: "First, these people should read up on the definition of ‘strike.’ What they’re doing is a ‘boycott.’ But whatever they call it, I think it’s great. It’s a big Internet, so I hope they find what they’re looking for."

User Comments

I think whom ever wins, there will be a strike.
If Clinton wins the nomination, Al Sharpton already started discussing a strike he will manage himself.

I’m sorry what is it about saying that Republicans dont care what the liberal media says and dont have Liberal white guilt and wont be cowed by screams of racism whenever Mr Obama is questioned warrent deleting my comment?????
This is on topic. It has to do with what these blogs etc are trying to accomplish with their tactics and practices and that’s get mR Obama nominated by convincing Liberals he is the best candidate.
My point is that Huffingotn Daily Kos and yes the Liberal MSM need to wrap their brains around the fact that Republicans don’t care what the Daily Kos says or the Huffingotn post says.
Democrats should be nominating the candidate that can withstand Republican attacks the best. If a candidate can’t even get fair coverage in the Liberal blogs without having supporters threatening people and screaming racism, he doesn’t have a snowball’s hope against the republicans.

If you really look at what Wright says and stop getting defensive, it is an expression of the anger and disappointment many blacks, especially of his generation, feel as a result of the hypocrisy and horrors of racism in America. Racism is not quite as huge as it has been in the past. It is on the decline. Yet it is far from dead. We all can try to avoid seeing the 900 pound Gorilla in the middle of the room, but he ain’t going nowhere until we the people really change. Acting politically correct is still just “acting.”

Obama has self-destructed. It will be interesting to see how embarassed the media will be and how they will react to the fact that their coverage of Obama was based more on fiction than fact. Its shocking to me that Obama can claim he wasn’t aware of, or in attendance for, those sexist/racist, anti-US comments by his spiritual advisor. Lying doesn’t sound like CHANGE to me. In the same way that Romney was supposedly unelectable for being a mormon, there is plenty of precedent to believe that ones choice of church for TWENTY YEARS gives more than a glimpse of insight into one’s psyche. Obama will never get the nomination at this point.

Americans have the right to be self-critical.Are 100% of us proud of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Vietnam, Irak?? I don’t think so. The reverend went too far and used the wrong language but to blame Sen.Obama for that? Sorry, most Americans are too smart to fall for that.

While I can’t believe that ABC is actually reporting on a collective, immature fit that some Hillary Clinton supporters are having, I think it shows the desperation of the Clinton campaign and its supporters.
The era of the Clinton’s and the Democratic Leadership Council is over. Alegre and her acolytes should just get over it.

It is good that Obama will not win the nomination now. If you use the WINNER TAKE ALL for all the Primaries , CLINTON is way ahead of Obama anyway.( This is the method used in General Election)
Even now in Texas , Hillary won Texas in the Primary and Obama won in the Caucus part of the election. Nowhere else in the world , Caucuses are done to run any election .Hillary got 1,459,814 votes and Obama got 1,358,785 votes yet Hillary got less delegates than Obama. This kind of PRIMARY elections are ridiculous. Any primary results to select the nominee for the Presidency of the most powerful which is based upon most stupid criteria should be totally rejected. Not even BANANA REPUBLICS have elections like we are having. Caucuses can easily be manipulated by hiring a lot of volunteers for $100 to $1000 for one or two week period. These paid volunteers then bring all their friends to come to attend the Caucus and the candidate who spent the most money for hiring paid volunteers wins the Caucus. Since Obama raised more money , he spent more on hiring these paid volunteers mostly university students and unemployed workers and this is why he won all the caucus states. These are only games that Obama has been playing to win a large number of small caucus states and other states where he was able to outspend Hillary 4 to 1. USING WINNER TAKE ALL _the method that will be used in the general election, upto now Hillary has 2064 delegates and Obama has 1394 delegates using the same method that is used in the General election. Assuming that Hillary wins PA, WV,Indiana and PR & Guam and Obama gets SD, NC , OR , MT , she will have 2439 delegates and Obama will have 1606 delegates. If Democrats ignore this and give top of the ticket to Obama, 25% of the Democrats will vote for Republicans and we can lose both the House & the Senate. This is exactly what happened when Anti War hero McGovern was nominated and we lost all states except Mass.

I am an Asian and I think black people want both way. When it is unfair to them from white people then it is racism to them but when they do the racial stuff asian people then it is not racism. Furthermore when they call people’s name it is not racism? Just for one time can black people stop whining and be like a man.

The only way to salvage this mess is to get both of them on the ticket. Dems, temper your passion for the candidate of your choice with a little common sense. We cannot afford to tear each other to pieces. Eight years of Bush have left us all suffering a form of politic traumatic stress disorder. We can’t heal these wounds by inflicting more.

The Daily Kos writer’s strike is the right thing to do. The Daily Kos Mafia has been generally looking the other way when it comes to OBAMA’s judgement concerning having installed a known rascist America-hater on Obama’s campaign team. This OSTRICH-type approach to a national discussion is not helpful, and should be condemned. I hereby denounce, reject, and repudiate the Daily Kos and will no longer be blogging there.

Last night in our small corner of the world three friends of the family (2 NM, 1 CO) expressed regret for casting their vote for Obama weeks ago. One owned up to being swept away by “words” and not having enough information. Yes, small corner of the world but yes, again, for the great possibility that many other past votes for Obama are now being reconsidered.

It’s a shame that American political decisions are so subjective and emotional—because by any objective, logical standard, Clinton is far more qualified to be President than Barack Obama. Clinton is superior to Obama in terms of experience and intellect; she will be a Commander-in-Chief who commands immediate respect, something that is difficult to the point of impossibility to say about Obama.
Dennis Kucinich is more qualified to be President than Obama. There’s no need to take shots at Obama’s middle name in order to defeat him: all one has to do is look at his limited accomplishments in the Senate, his undistinguished track record in the Illinois Legislature, his connection to a radical, race-baiting church and his link to scandal-scarred financier Antoin Rezko. Some politicians make good Presidents in theory. Obama doesn’t even pass that threshold.
Obama has skillfully exploited anti-Bush sentiment to become a political rock star—but has yet to truly appeal to those who will make their electoral decisions based on something besides Bush-loathing.

Since all the Main Stream Media is clearly backing Obama, try posting anything pro-Obama on those sites and see what happens? I find nothing wrong in a LIBERAL site tilted in favoring Obama.
Those who vote for Hillary will get what they deserve; more corruption, more divisiveness, more of the same.

After watching Barack answer the charges of hate against his pastor, sadness came over me. Barack was forced to say he was never in church when Wright was giving sermons that might have been peppered with the kind of comments being played on TV. I’m sure that republicans, the Clintons and the media are digging to see if Barack was indeed at such a sermon. To show how ridiculous this thing was at one point Anderson showed Barack one of the statements he was condemning it went something like, paraphrasing” “Hillary has never had a cab whiz by her because the color of her skin was wrong, Hillary has no idea what it is like to be a black man and live in a country controlled by rich white people,” after showing the statement Anderson repeated this is one of the statements you are condemning, even Anderson knew it was ridiculous, because the statement is true.
I then watched as Anderson and David Gergen and Roland Martin went on to talk about how it is possible that Wright could be a patriot and could possibly love this country more than many people but feel that America has not lived up to what it could be, how we needed to dialogue about the issues behind the statements and see the entire ceremony before casting judgment. Imagine after backing Barack into a corner and after he had committed himself to a particular position the media was offering up another explanation for the same words that was before being characterized as evil and hateful. Making him denounce a man he obviously loves a great deal and who has had nothing but positive influence in his own personal growth. Great.

If Obama wants us to believe that he wasn’t aware of his pastors comments then he needs to back to pre-K and start all over again. I hope he doesn’t think we’re that stupid.
As for the media, your darling Obama is melting away, and if you think the American people are going to vote for a guy like him to run our country, you have got to be kidding yourself.

I’m a lurker in several blogs and there is more than enough bashing going on towards both candidates. It looks to me like whatever site has the most candidate supporters just has the upper hand in the bashing process. All this is doing is destroying the Democratic Party and giving John McCain the election in November. A sad case indeed.

Response to jackt51
My math is not wrong. Let us take the electoral method with winner take all
The color Purple. Much as we may crave it, we do not live in a democracy. If we did then each person would have one vote in every issue, and that vote would count as much as any other. But we don’t. If you participated in a caucus, your vote counted about ten times as much as someone who voted in a primary. In the general election, what ultimately matters is the votes in the Electoral College, not the popular vote, as we re-learned so painfully in 2000. So the question facing the uncommitted “super-delegates” is how do we run the best campaign with the highest probability of defeating John McCain in November, and win the majority of Electoral College votes. Cuurently Clinton has 267 electoral votes and Obama has 202 electoral votes using the same method as used in the GE. Assume that Hillary wins PA, WV, Indiana
and Obama gets SD, NC , OR , MT , Clinton will have 308 electoral votes and Obama will have 230 Electoral votes. You know who should be on top of the DREAM ticket. Now that Obama has been exposed we can have a better person than him on the Dream Ticket

Jake, I was looking at the comments here and I think I know where all the Hillary supporters went.
It’s sad that they take themselves out of the debate. That’s a “take my toys and go home” attitude. And it’s further sad that both sides’ supporters have become so vehemently defensive; it does not bode well for maturity as the democratic nominee race continues.
It reminds me of The Old Man and the Sea–there will be nothing left of our marlin once we drag it to shore–the sharks will have eaten either nominee down before we get to November.

In this case, its the chaff that has separated itself from the wheat.
I’ve been reading so many redundant anti-Obama diaries on Kos lately that it’s hard to find the good diaries. I’m looking forward to find some many more thoughtful diaries on Kos going forward.
And what’s the end game of this pseudo strike?
So, these so-called strikers aren’t coming back until everyone else starts making comments and posting diaries that they like?
Well, that’s not very Democratic, is it?
All I can say to Alegra and her acolytes is “good riddance.”

My mother was an avid Hillary supporter up until 3 weeks ago when Clinton started using the “kitchen sink” approach. Then she began remember all the triangulation that went on during Bill’s presidency and said, “no more”. Hillary’s “experience” boilis down to backstabbing, revenge fueled, scorched earth politics. Hillary’s experience is supporting an elitist government with no imput from the people. Obama is trying to give the government back to the people. That’s why me AND my mother are voting for him.

All this talk about Obama’s pastor is sickening. How many Catholics will denounce their Catholicism on account of the failings of a priest? How many Jews will denounce their Jewishness on account of the failings of a rabbi? Faith is about the spirit. The messenger; priest, rabbi, pastor etc. is but a conduit but not the message itself.
Finally, the message of Jesus is one of FORGIVENESS. One of TOLERANCE.
None of thie charaterizes Obama, but it does characterize those that would see him fail on account of their own innate biggotry for not focusing on the issues to win.
Obama ’08

Posted by: Sharon | March 15, 2008, 11:44 am 11:44 am

The best way to show support for Barack Obama is to give to his campaign and give big. He needs money to get his message(s) out; he needs to get a well-spoken, articulate person from his denomination and affiliation to speak about the church guiding principles and love for this country.
I think Barrack’s pastor was and is angry with our county’s leadership and their policies around the world. Any intelligent person viewing the videos on MSM could see that he had worked himself up into frenzy and was careless with his words. Too often older pastors entertain rather than teach good cohesive messages. Educated members understand this …and also, for Christian families, the Church is much more than a Sunday morning sermon.
I love this country very much. I would die for this country but not for the shameful, shameless leadership we have in power today. They do not represent the county that I love. Yes, I do not agree with their policies and practices, and no, that does not make me an anti-patriotic.

Obama’s supporters have given him a bad name. So have many of Hillary’s. But the difference between Hillary and Obama is that Hillary has never suggested that her feet were made of anything other than clay, while Obama has been very content to ride the wave hysteria that crowns him the next Great Hope. He doesn’t seem uncomfortable at all having people swoon over him. And that bothers me.
I first noticed this way back in late January, when he had that commercial aired every half hour on CNN during the SC primary race. It had some Harvard professor saying, “We were honored to have someone as brilliant as Obama support us …” I thought to myself, “that is the most arrogant thing I have ever heard” especially from someone who markets himself as being about WE,WE,WE not ME, ME, ME.
Meanwhile, Obama’s supporters blame Hillary for EVERYTHING, absolutely EVERYTHING. This is what makes Obama’s pastor’s comment “Why is everybody hating on Obama?” particularly ironic. No one has been hating on Obama. Hillary has been attacked and scrutinized from every possible angle, but Obama? Nope, he just keeps on riding the wave. When Samantha Power made that monster remark? No apology from Prince Barack. Just a “gracious” acceptance of her resignation.
Meanwhile, Hillary is expected to apologize for everything. And she does, to a voting block that has deserted her in droves. But she does it anyway, because that is just the decent thing to do. Well, I think it is time for Obama to apologize to every white person in America for the things his pastor said. It’s only fair. Then maybe he too can show some dignity by admitting that his feet are also, alas, made of clay.

Here we go, the innundation of NONSENSE from deluded Obama supporters. The sooner you all accept how utterly inappropriate he would be as a Democratic leader, the better. He has not a chance in hell of winning against McCain. Yesterday’s DISASTER for the Obama campaign is just a TASTE of what the GOP could do to him.
And these ABSURD comparisons to the faults of leaders from other religions – which aim to condone/forgive Obama’s behavior – are RIDICULOUS. The key difference is Obama was a PERSONAL FRIEND of Rev. Wright for 20 YEARS! Rev. Wright was his MENTOR – his work INSPIRED the title of Obama’s book, “The Audacity of Hope” (which should be retitled to the “The Audacity of Hate & Arrogance”). As such, Obama should absolutely be held accountable for his STRONG TIES to a pastor who spreads hate about WHITE PEOPLE and WOMEN. Obama has not been an “anonymous” member of the church/religion – he has been a central figure with direct and strong ties to the LEADER!! He has referred to Wright about as being “like an uncle”. Please, enough with these PATHETIC attempts by deluded supporters trying to forgive him.
Obama needs to drop out now. He is destroying the Democratic party with his utterly divisive politics which rely solely on racism, sexism and ageism. Game over. Mainstream America will not tolerate this nonsense behavior.

Hurricane Hillary is causing severe damage to the Democrat Party. Similar to the Clintons’ mastery of “scorched earth” and “vise-grip” politics: if she doesn’t get her nomination to the presidency Hurricane Hillary will spawn off whirlwinds of destruction with the anger and the perpetual fury the party have yet to witness. Katrina will look like the eye of the storm compared to the Clintons’ wrath. Shore up and brace yourselves for the perfect storm Democrats!

K –
Though I can see why you may think this is how Obama is, it is not the truth.
He denounced the statements made by his pastor BACK in January, prior to this making it into the MSM. He has denounced those not even associated with his campaign. He has clearly spoken of times when he has erred along the way.
Hillary has done this at times, at others she has waited until the pressure was too much to avoid, recently with the Ferrero fiasco.
Neither candidate should be held accountable for what others say but rather by how they respond to what others say.
I believe both are doing a fair job, but both need to get the public focused back onto the issues.
Obama is the one that has demonstrated he is willing to work with all sides, all voices to forge a greater America.

Posted by: Sharon | March 15, 2008, 11:59 am 11:59 am

Larry – Your may be correct but your assumptions are faulty. What does the winner of a Democratic primary have to do with who wins the state in the general election? You think that because Clinton beat Obama in New York that it somehow means that Obama would lose it to McCain? That makes no sense at all. The latest round of polls indicated that Obama would win more electoral votes than Clinton against McCain, although of course either one would win.

Posted by: jock59801 | March 15, 2008, 12:00 pm 12:00 pm

Larry: Very good point here. I was informed about Hillary wins in state primaries vs. Obama’s advantages in caucuses. However I do not think it was fair for Obama to obtain more delegates in the states where he lost the popular votes to Hillary, not to mention the possibility that he may or may not have hired some paid volunteers to manipulate results of these caucuses.
I think pro-Hillary supporters and organizations should consider create an open letter (with millions of votes’ endorsements) to Democratic National Committee to urge them allow a revote in Michigan and honor the primary result in Florida.

If the situation was reversed, Democrats would be demanding that Obama withdraw from the race.
Hillary is being allowed to destroy the party.
There is no way she can force a rule change in FL and MI, and bribe the party bosses to flip the popular vote in her favor at the convention in August.
And Obama’s supporters will just vote for McCain if she did manage to steal it somehow. They aren’t all Dems to begin with and decided long ago not to vote for Hillary.
President McCain will announcing another Iraq surge one year from now. You can thank Hillary now.

But I do want him to apologize or Wright to apologize for offending me and blaming our generation of white people for their perceived secondary status in our society. How is it my fault? Why did Hillary have to apologize for someone’s comments and Obama doesn’t have to apologize for Wright’s comments – Wright was also on one of his campaign’s committees. WHY THE DOUBLE STANDARD WHEN IT COMES TO HILLARY? Obama should apologize to white people who were offended by these remarks!!! I don’t trust him and whether or not he would be for ALL people if President. Luckily we don’t have to find out.

what’s the purpose of the ‘strike’ – how does this change anyones opinion on anything? If they want people to change their minds they have to actually make a case, rather than just take their ball and go home crying.

If Hillary muddies up the Dems then the only solution would be a Gore Obama ticket. Now that would be unstoppable and win by a land slide and this independent would see it as the best alternative to a deadlocked convention.

One last point. Barak Obama says over and over he does not take money from lobbyists..he makes a point to tell that lie over and over. He has taken more money for this Presidential nomination campaign than any other candidate, including Hillary Clinto. Read watchdog.org and tally for yourself. I have an additional question for all of you..$ 710,000 from Obama’s PAC to 35 delegates who have endorsed him..Buying votes the good old fashioned way?

How can we have a Democratic Nominee for President whose Pastor of twenty years- the man who introduced Obama to Christianity, the man who married him, the man who baptised his two children—HIS MENTOR–believes such horrible things?
IF this had come out before Iowa or before Super Tuesday by the national media as it should have–I don’t think the Democratic Primary would be so tight right now.
Shame on the national media for not vetting Senator Obama properly before Super Tuesday.

If Hillary’s “you know what” doesn’t stink, then she should release her tax returns, release the First Lady White House papers, release the donors to the Clinton Library, and release all her submitted earmarks. Then her and Obama would be on equal “transparency” footing. Until she does I will consider her unethical and dishonest.

What ever happened to the “friendly opposition”? If you believe any of the statements above you have reached the tribal equivalent of hating them because they belong to the other tribe. It’s OK to disagree with anyone but don’t slam them because the have a view that’s different than yours. You are all listening to too much radio talk shows.

Same here like the man from Boston who said his newspaper had no mention of the exploding story about Obama’s so called preacher (racist bigot) Jeremiah Wright. My newspaper had more articles slamming Clinton and even more slamming McCain. I am going to hit them where it hurts, I just called in and canceled my subscription and wrote the Editor. And by the way Obama just lost any chance he ever had for the Whitehouse and he knows it

Why is this being given the time of day? It’s nothing more than a bunch of self-absorbed Clinton bloggers who think they are “real” writers holding theirs collective breaths and throwing a temper tantrum on the most popular democratic blog in the world until they get attention from the likes of you. They do NOT even understand the difference between a “strike” and a “boycott”. Sheesh! There are much more important things going on in the world. Did you hear about the war in Iraq? It’s time we take a stand. It’s OK to support different candidate. But it’s not OK to attack and dehumanized the supporters of the opponent candidate. DailyKos has allowed the abusive behavior to go uncheck, and it has become a norm. DailyKos turned blind eyes to the daily insulting to Hillary supporters.
When Obama supporters went as far as saying that the poor people in Ohio didn’t have enough food so their brains lacked oxygen and hence they voted for Hillary, I knew that there is no rhyme nor reason left at DailyKos.

I was an Edwards supporter. When he dropped out, I looked at the other 2 candidates. One offered hope, and one offered experience. Then I went to their websites, and started reading the blogs. It became very clear to me, that the only choice was Hillary Clinton. Just like the comments on this blog, the Obama people can’t stick to the facts, or point out why he is qualified for the job, they just say nasty things about Hillary. If anyone is being divisive-it is the Obama people. Wasn’t it Michelle Obama, who said she would have to “think about” whether she would vote for Hillary if she were the nominee. Sounds divisive to me. If Bill Clinton said that he would have been crucified. Go to the Hillary web site. The people there do not make nasty comments about the opponent, they just work hard to support their candidate. Divisive talk does not bring about UNITY.

Posted by: beachnan | March 15, 2008, 1:04 pm 1:04 pm

Hey Sharon,
I appreciate your comments. They seemed pretty reasonable and balanced. Which is clearly something we Democrats need to seize upon, regardless of which of these phenomenal candidates we support.
But I’m not backing off what I said. The media and most voters scrutinize Hillary at a far greater level than they do Obama. Everything she or her campaign says is interpretted in the most cynical way. She is held to a higher level of scritiny than Obama and is expected to appease and conciliate much more than he is. If the world can look with such a critical eye on her, it needs to do the same toward him. I mean, is is a true contender – the front-runner, in fact. The honeymoon is over. He’s a politician just like everyone else. Some of the attachments he has are liabilities. He’s espoused and sided with some offensive attitudes. If he’s going to be President, he’s got to convince this nation – and all of its ethnicities- that he will stand for them all. That’s what Hillary has been doing when she reached out to the black community at the Black State of the Union conference and the latest event with Black newspaper publishers. Obama is going to have to do that too. If Hillary owes it to the constiuencies of the Democratic Party, then Obama owes it to Democratic constituencies too.

I don’t care in the least what Obama’s or Hillary’s minister said in any sermons. I’m really appalled that the media jumped on it like they did. I guess it sells papers. I suppose we should have gone after Huckabee’s sermons to see what kinds of things he said in them. I bet there was some inflammatory stuff in there and it would actually be his own thoughts. However this won’t hurt Obama in the general election because he can bring up McCains relationships with wacko preachers like Hagee. When this blows over (next week, I predict) Obama will be in great shape and win most of the remaining primaries.

I think Obama supporters have to understand that even if Obama was to win the nomination there is a lot of people out there that cannot hold their nose and vote for Obama after this.
NO matter how much of a die hard Democrat they are they just will not do it, those anti-american statements will keep ringing in their ears.
9/11 was such a blow, such sadness all over the world, so many died and to have someone say America deserved that will not sit well with persons that love their country.
They will not vote for Obama and that is the new position he has now found his self in, because no matter what he says now this cannot be explained away with videos and more words.

although the issue of obama’s ties to farrakhan and and wright may have some merit, how in the world can the clintons or their supporters even begin to raise the issue of anyone else’s ties to corruption?
that would be like richard nixon accusing someone else of being a paranoiac.
and in response to the inevitable comebacks of “all the stories about the clintons’ corrupt dealings are old news,” well, 9-11 is old news too…but it’s still relevant, is it not?
obama’s a doofus for having associated himself with the likes of the nation of islam and pastor wright, and his ties to rezko are troubling.
but no one, and i mean no one, can out sleaze the clintons. they’re dirtier than a new jersey landfill.

Your grand parents paid with their blood during WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, and now Iraq? Our men and women in the military continue to sacrifice their lives just like your grand parents did to save this country we call America.

I wonder how long Clinton would be able to survive were it made known that her pastor of 20 years had made repeated white nationalist statements, claiming that all the woes of the white people were due to rich blacks?
By sending Barack Obama now onto the General Election, the Democratic Party might well teach more Americans valuable lessons about the history of black exploitation and the unique dialogic experiences played out inside Black Nationalist churches. But it wil be at the expense of losing 45 states and handing the presidency to the Republican Party to go on for 8 more years of its war, torture and economic decline.

There is already one source that wrote an article about Obama and his church in August 2007, not yesterday.
This source is saying that Obama was in attendance at the church when these statements were made on July 22.
That is why the article was written in August 07 questioning Obama about his attendance at this controversial Chicago church whose pastor routinely refers to “white arrogance” and “the United States of White America.”
For Obama to come now and say he did not ever hear stuff like this he is lying and that is a very serious problem, what more will he lie about just to gain the presidency?
I just can’t believe people will just shake that off and say lets move on.

Herb65 and Mattohio …
The list that you seem to want to spread of who Obama “is” (I think we fall under the Clinton definition here of “is”) in one pile is minimal to the sheets, pages of trying to get to Clinton’s “is” is…
LOOOOONG…with a defeated country, lawsuits , charges, fines, deaths, revealing tax returns, cover-ups, “windfalls”, millions in suspect campaign finance, a list of seedy criminals…
all of this has been predominantly respectfully and oddly ignored by the side of the party trying to raise the dialog and the news media…
…but if you want to point out lists like this we can go there… by my accounts there are 23 legitimate unanswered scandals that were never fully resolved with the Clintons…and that is not counting the ones that WERE resolved (everything from the older files thank you disbarment and to the newer ones 35k fine last year.)
We are not going to play that game unless forced to defend against a candidate in a big glass house.
So please don’t go there.

Yes, go vote for McCain, the same McCain that was part of the Keating 5 where money was stolen from old people.
It’s time you cry babies grow up and accept the fact that someone is beating Hillary fairly. Big deal; bloggers are sloggers. They do not speak for the American people, they are expressing their own views, regardless of how flawed they may be. The blind following of Oprahma is not only illogical, it is soft soaping the democratic process; playing into the ‘race card’ is as much his doing as his opponents. He slices baloney well, this does not make him Presidential material. I am a Vietnam veteran and would not vote for this guy if he were the ONLY candidate. Somehow he appears to me to have an alternative agenda; and that couldn’t possibly be good for anyone. Well, maybe a few of those with ‘Oprahma fever’. I would see a doctor about that affliction; happily it is not infectious.

Obama is a liar and it’s caught up with him. And although him made a not so convincing rejection of the things Wright said, he would turn around and say how great Wright is no matter what he said, it was sickening. I can tolerate arguments on their merit, which is what the campaign should be about. But its almost comical to see people call obama supports ‘sheep’ when they in fact parrot the talking points put forth by republicans and the hillary ‘advisors’. The vast majority of hillary and obama supports have more in common than they think. They are all just idiots who cant see past their own bs and fail to bring important issues, but instead the misdirection the campaigns want you to. WTF happened to the my country. Are we so damned blinded by the divisive politics that we cant look out for who matters? US?

The Dems allowed Obama and his “HOPE” mantra to grow and grow only because they knew Hillary and her socialism and big load of baggage would never be President. Now they are in a nut cracker as thier HOPE has become a DOPE… and the party is falling all over itself for being so inept and running a candidate who should glide into office. NOT.

Davidfrat4,
No, the Clinton “scandals” are not old news, but they are FALSE. Go ahead and yell them out on the rooftops. It just makes you look more ignorant. It’s ignorant to compare the Clinton’s scandals to Nixon, who was a criminal. Reasonable people will recognize the Clinton scandals for what they really are–failed vast right wing strategy to overthrow them.
Don’t play that “Hillary is polarizing” cards. Hillary supporters are not going to let Republicans pick our president. We are voting for the best.

DailyKos has offended me for the last time, just as Chris Matthews did when he attacked any number of Democrats. Also, I am put off by Olbermann, too. I am a liberal but I am a realist. Obama is a loser for the Democrats…he is the most divisive candidate to ever hit the Democratic Party and he has won very few states, if any, that will go for the Democrats in November.

Posted by: Two-cats | March 15, 2008, 2:39 pm 2:39 pm

Talk about much ado about nothing! LOL If folks can’t stand the heat of talking to those that don’t share their feelings then they will never affect a single vote. The problem is they really want to take their ball and go home.. only they haven’t realized they don’t have the only ball and the game will go on without them.
As far as those saying Obama is done over his pastor.. that’s about as true as McCain is done because of those whacky pastors that he’s embrassed in the last two weeks. Glass houses and all that.. LOL

I don’t think most Clinton supporters are “haten on Obama”. But, I believe a vast majority of both Clinton and Obama supporters are sorely dissapointed in Obama’s charade. He is a very gifted fellow and I think one day he can and will make a difference. But, right now he needs to make an amends. The damage is catastophic. He has undermined our trust. It’s repairable, but it will take a long, long time.
I also don’t believe that Hillary has or ever will turn her back on him, no matter who the nominee is. They are in a heated political fight to be sure, but in the end, I think fences can and will be mended. At least, I hope so….

If Hillary Clinton was behind by 150+ delegates and the campaign was being dragged down in the mud like it is today, her opponent would have been dragged off the stage kicking and screaming. When are the Democrats going to find some guts, and tell Hillary it’s time to go.

Posted by: Lilly | March 15, 2008, 2:56 pm 2:56 pm

Obama repudiated the views expressed in those types of sermons. To not take him at his word can simply be rebutted this way: Our founding fathers thought slavery was OK. Many owned people, beat them, forced them to labor. Today most, if not all, people repudiate that idea. Does that mean we have to repudiate all that they stood for? Or that if we believe anything they said or did, such as the America they founded, we are in the wrong. We don’t always believe in everything that our leaders, friends or even family believe. The right (Limbaugh, Hannity, etc.) can not have it both ways. By their own logic, if they can not take Obama at his word we have to belive that they think slavery is fine and those slaves are 2/3 of a human.

Remember the phrase from Apollo 13 “Houston we have a problem”! Well you can bet that that is what the superdelegates are saying now. With this Wright revelation you can rest assured that there will not be any defections to the Obama camp in the near future. This probelm goes to the heart of Mr. Obamas credibilty and to central argument for his candidacy, that is the fact that what is important is not experience but judgement. What does it say about is judgement to put a man who he knew was controversial even before the release of these viedos as a member of his campaign? He also campaigned with Rev. Wright in Iowa where he was asked about Wrights travel with Farrakahn to Lybia and the fact that the church had given Farrakahn a lifetime acheivement award. These things took place before Sermongate yet he failed to distance himself from Rev. Wright. Was this good judgement? Now he says that even though he has known him for 20 yrs, he preformed his marriage ceremony, babtized his childern, consulted him for his advice before announcing his candidacy that he was unaware of any of Rev Wrights radical views. Well that in my opinion is incredulous. He must have know that Mr. Wright was a liability since he disinvited him from his public announcement that he was going to run for the presidency. Why did he tell hime not to come? He knew he had a problem yet he failed to do anything about it. So here he is and here the Democrats are with this hanging around his and our neck like an albatross. This is going to provide the superdelegates with a tough choice do they give the noimation to someone who because of this revelation is so hanicapped that he can’t win in november or do they do that for which they were created and that is to be a safety valve and go against the delegates if need be in order to put forth a canidate that can win? I think that the pressure to give the nomination to Obama will be so intense from the black community that he will get the nomination even thought he has failed his own test, good judgement. In the end what looked like certain victory is now in doubt and probably out of reach. McCain is looking more and more like a winner! Who could have imagined?

Martha Davidson: Actually it was Fox News that first said that they had the videos, then Brian Ross had a segment on Good Morning America. Either way they were not hidden videos they were purchased online I think from the church. I would not consider that digging them up like the Obama people say. Just like the photo of him in african garb was taken by his own film crew. It is hard to smear someone with their own viedos and pictures.

AFRICAN-AMERICANS, as all Americans, will assess the Obama judgement for what it is, a very poor judgement, and will re-assess whether he should be backed for President. African-Americans, in the great majority, do not support racial intolerance from people of any color. Nor do they support association with racial intolerance. Like with any other group, Wright represents a fringe element. Inasmuch as Obama knowingly placed a rascist person on his campaign, the great majority of African-Americans will have pause as to whether he is supportable. If we assess the facts, through a national conversation, much as we assessed the facts when Trent Lott made racially-insensitive remarks and lost a power seat in the Senate, I’m quite certain that most African-Americans, no different from all Americans, will arrive at the conclusion that Obama cannot be supported, and there has been some loss of trust.

What is sad about Obama is that he used Jeremiah Wright to get in good with the black community where he could get their vote when he was a up and coming wannabe Congressman and now he wants to be president and he wants us to believe that he had nothing to do with him during the 20 year relationship so he can be the President. He wants his cake and eat it too. I think Wright and Farrakhan both knew this and thats why you see both of them supporting him even after he denounced and rejected them outright. There is a plan behind that. You know Obama is giving them a “wink and nod” just like he did Canada and just like his Iraq war plan. Don’t be fooled America or this country will be in the toilet.

Yeah I saw that. Oh and last night on Olbermann he interviewed Obama and I don’t think I’ve seen that many softball questions in my life. I think its on the internet. It was laughable. Oh and heres one from Jeremiah Wright that came from the transcripts not on video or they don’t have this video yet. On Tucker Carlson said that Wright called Natalie Hollaway, the girl who was murdered in Aruba on her senior trip, a slut. Now I don’t know how you feel about that but I’m from Alabama and that really didn’t sit to well with me. I don’t think Obama has a chance at winning this “red” state if that goes mainstream.

The focus of this story was the “strike” at Daily Kos. The people posting here have made the focus the elect-ability of the remaining candidates and a forum for their own political preferences and bigotries. Who cares? The American electorate was never given the opportunity to even experience who if anyone that entered the primaries might have actually been the best consideration for America. As a result we get what we have. Four more years of status quo that sustains a corrupt two party system, a republican who falls well beyond the median age of his constituency and two democrats that are effectively destroying any chance a democrat has to win the general election. By allowing ourselves to be led like sheep through the election cycle thus far by the MSM, we’ve brought this once more, upon ourselves. Instead feeling indignant at Hil’ or Obama, this board should be all about the shame we share collectively.

This isn’t blowing over. It’s called Saturday news. The real journalist take weekends off and Monday this shitstorm for Obama really begins. Lets not forget that Obama said he was never at church when Wright said any of these things. Only 12 tapes have turned up. When others start coming out and there Obama is with his “I Hate White People” shirt on sitting beside Oprah with her shirt on that says “Me Too” then he’s going to have to drop out of the race.

It is often said that the conduct of the past is the best predictor of the future. Is this measure of sniping all the top two democratic candidates and their campaigns can offer? Is this how they would lead if either one found themselves in the Oval Office? Regardless of which candidate you support, do you see more than words and clever speaches in their campaigns?
This situation offers a great opportunity to take leadership beyond rhetoric if Clinton and/or Obama can sieze the opportunity. If they can’t lead themselves out of this particular paper bag, how can we expect either to perform well with the pressures of the Presidency on their shoulders?
I’ve been hoping to see a condidacy that was built on substance, not theory and I believe that we, the people are smart enough to know that all the “plans” in candidate playbooks change on day 1 of the job.
To the candidates, I say, show me your craft of leadership in practice. Give us a tough choice to make that shows us what you can do as a leader. If you want the job, don’t tell me. SHOW me that you are ready for the office.
This primary season and in the general election, I am looking for a candidate I can vote FOR, not against.

WOW! The vitriol expressed here is so disingenous. All of these folks expressing “shock and outrage” are folks who are absolutely delighted to have found a sliver of “coverage” not to support Obama and in revealing their own ignorance or bigotry or preferences for whatever reason. I love the Clintoons supporters of America’s Evita Hillary that are playing the shocked “victim” card that Hillary does so well when things are not going her way. I am convinced that none of the writers of negative responses to the Obama situation were Obama leaning supporters anyway and this is a classic Clintonian attempt to imply mass rejection of Obama – Sorry, Obama supporters tend to be smarter and all grown up politically. Anyway you guys make good theatre!

Posted by: Ohioliberal | March 15, 2008, 4:31 pm 4:31 pm

Oh believe me. After seeing how the media has bent over backward for Obama, nothing would surprise me. Here is another thing to ponder about. Why doesn’t the media talk about how unreflective a caucus is compaired to a primary. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that Hillary’s supporters, older working class and elderly people, can’t just go somewhere in the middle of the day for 6 hours and caucus. Caucus states are being won by college Obama supporters that don’t have anything to do, no jobs, and if they do have jobs, his supporters are wealthy so they can afford to take off. Texas shows you how reflective Caucus wins are to primary wins and in the General Election there will not be any caucus states. Obama is not electable no matter how you look at it.

Regarding Louis Farrakhan, Obama stated: “And I would reject and denounce,” he said, giving rise to much laughter and applause from the audience during the debate with Hillary Clinton. Yet Obama’s church gave an award to Louis Farrakhan (Obama is a church member for over 20 years, with over 6,000 people attending and this information was never shared with him).
Regarding Pastor Wright who obviously hates America and white people in general, Obama stated regarding his statements: “inflammatory and appalling”, I reject them completely-they are not ones that reflect my values or my ideas or Michelle’s”. Yet for 20 years he sat in church listening to these values. Obama states that he did not attend the sermon that everyone is referring to “Damn America”. No one told him about the sermon, not one of the 6,000 people in the church mentioned anything about this sermon to him knowing that he was a Senator at the time. His wife didn’t hear anything about this sermon ever, and none of the 6,000 church goers and friends told her anything about this sermon.
Regarding Rezko and a 17 year relationship, Obama has stated that he was “boneheaded” (Obama’s words not mine), and therefore that issue is now dead. He also stated publically that he took no favors from Rezko. But this too has to be questioned because Rezko purchased the lot next to Obama’s house for $600,000 because Obama didn’t have enough money; even though he bought he purchased him home with help from Rezko at a very large discount? That is not a favor?

It’s because the American voter, as represented by all of you fine posters, is partisan and ugly. Don’t blame candidates and don’t blame the media for how vicious this has all gotten. Look in the mirror. The candidates and the media are only feeding your frenzy with what you apparently want.

Apology for this long post. But, I hope someone will read it :).
Putting aside the argument about what counts and what does not, let us think how we get here.
The election started with Clinton’s 20% lead. Her campaign staff, full of highly-paid “strategist” and pollsters (boy, $250K per month!!), never thought that the election would pass super Tuesday or they would lose Iowa. They were the ones who messed up Clinton’s campaign. Out of desperation, they threw “kitchen sink” which essentially gained no delegates to their side. But the campaign changed dramatically after that. Clinton’s staff had this brilliant idea to attack Obama by questioning his readiness and stating that McCain is more ready. I seriously think these guys are really working for Repulicans. Ok, let’s put math and her chances of winning aside. We can agree that these guys/gals messed up Clinton’s election once. I can also say what they are doing is messing up democrats, regardless whoever gets the nomination.
Clinton is pushed by her campaign and her surrogates to continue fighting. These guys have no courage to take the responsibility for their own failure. As the principle, Clinton should take the leadership role and calmly analyze the situation and make the right choice. Instead, she simply follows her staff’s direction. Because nobody in her campaign wants to take the blame (or risk) to tell her the truth and because of her inability to calmly analyze the situation, she fights on. At this moment, her strategy is destroying democratic party, whether it is her intention or not. By the end of the process, we are going to have a seriously wounded party.
Mrs. Clinton, please take the leadership role and show us that you are indeed READY ON DAY ONE! Being READY means not only ready to follow your pollsters, but also ready to make tough decisions. Let’s hope cool heads prevail.
Oh, Well, I guess I am just a dreamer, sadly.

Ohio liberal: It is this I am smarter than you attitude that cost Mr. Obama the election in Ohio. Ms. Powers a graduate of Harvard who after eight years of education was able to come up with that stunning political critique “Hillary is a Monster”. Good to see that her education did not go to waste. She said that the working class voters of Ohio had the wool pulled over their eyes and that is why they voted for Hillary maybe the real reason is that the working class people of Ohio are smart enough to see Obama for what he was just another poltician saying anything to get elected.

Go ahead and elect Obamerama. Then you will find out what Change is. He has an agenda; I haven’t trusted this guy from day 1. He sounds like a preacher calling his flock. They don’t care that his church is racist; his minister and wife hate America. He’s buying votes and intimidating superdelegates, but that is his right.

Everyone knows that Hillary has the better policies. She is more qualified. She actually has some foriegn policy experience. Obama has only been to one NATO country in his life and that was on a stopover going somewhere else. He’s never been to Latin America. He is not ready. This is were Geraldine Ferraro’s comments ring true. What white man or white/black woman would be in the lead with only 2 years in the Senate and while there the best thing on his resume is that he passed “ethics reform” I don’t know about you but ethics reform is not high up on my list of things I care about in a President. Oh and lets not forget the earmarks Obama released today. A million dollars to The Chicago Hospital (wife was VP there at the time) 8 million for ammo for the Bradley tank. CEO of the company is biggest contributor in his campaign. In his district a nuclear plant had a leak. He drafted a bill stating that Nuclear plants would have to warn surrounding neighborhood immediately. Then the Nuclear compant (Exelon) came in and watered down the bill and changed it to “In a timely fashion” Endangering the lives of the people that lived around the plant. Exelon is his 4th largest contributor. Also Rezko, we all know about him but think about how the media will not insinuate anything about their connection but feel free to call the Clintons racist at the drop of a hat. Rezko, a political fixer, gives Obama 250,000 dollars in campaign contributions. He gets Obama 300,000 dollars knocked off his house by buying the lot next door for asking price. Why would Rezko give him all this money if he is clean when he could have gave it to another politician that wasn’t clean that would actually do something for him. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, its usually Obama being bribed. LOL Is this a new kind of Politician? I don’t think so

This is great. Watching Hillary and her flock first trash Gore in 2000, then Kerry in 2004, and now Obama. I think she will win and do what the previous Clinton did. Give us back the Congress for another 12 years so she can blame Congress for everything she does not get. This will also lead to a slow (a generation or so) leaking of African-Americans to the Republican party. Watch McCain pick Steele for VP if Obama gets shut down. Go Hillary, we need the Congress back.

All right it is gut check time. For all you Obama lovers can you seriously say that after Sermongate that Obama can win in November? Can he win in PA,OH,FL. The republicans are not going to let this go away. Its like a judge instructing a jury to disregard the fact that a witness said that the defendant had murdered someone else in the past. Do you really think that the jury is going to disregard it? The genie is out of the bottle and to think that this is not going to be a major problem for Obama is ignoring the obvious at least and delusional at best.

As an Independent and PROUD of it, the General Election will find my vote in this order: OBama over McCain, McCain over Clinton. The only way I would not vote is if McCain ran unopposed. I would not consider voting for Nadar or Clinton, but would vote against Clinton if she shows up on any ticket. Personally, I think she should be running as a Republican, but I still wouldn’t vote for her. Maybe as Nadars vice president…Na, not even then. She’s the wrong person for office, period.

Obama and his supporters look for anything that the Clinton campaign and their supporters say that can be misconstrued as indicating that they hate blacks, scream to high heavens about it and let the MSM do its job of accepting it as fact and spreading the word in order to keep the Clinton campaign constantly on the defensive. Obama then downplays racist garbage spewed out by his spiritual adviser, mentor and pastor by calling him his “uncle” as if he had no choice in associating himself with Wright and makes the dubious claim that he never heard them till now, despite attending his sermons for 20 years. And as usual, his supporters hypocritically don’t see a double standard, and the MSM like CNN, NBC and CBS accept his explanations without comment. It is Obama who has severely divided the Democratic Party in his quest to capture the White House, and it is Obama who will allow McCain to win the White House once the GOP gets finished unleashing all the juicy video clips of Wright at his finest and Obama nodding his head in agreement into the Internet and broadcasting them on Fox 24/7.

Obama’s supporters on web blogs are very deceiptful and mean and evil. They spew forth personal attacks and insults. What good does that do toward the party? Nothing but hurt it.
I agree with others that Obama doesn’t have what it takes. If only he would get the message his bloggers are sending, he would step down.

Has everyone saw the video of Obama in 2005 when he just became a Senator and they asked him about running for President and he said that he didn’t think he has the experience to do that yet? The only reason Obama is running is because he got lucky and gave that speech in 2002 against the war and thought that would be enough since the war was unpopular when the campaign began. Now that the war is on the back burner and the Economy is front and center. He really can’t touch Hillary on that. Plus I guess he didn’t think we would know that since that speech he’s said twice that he didn’t know how he would have voted if he was a Senator during the authorization and that he was were George Bush was on the war. Oh and for everyone that thinks Hillary is lying when she said that her vote wasn’t for war but it was to get the inspectors back in and that she warned George Bush about abusing the power he was getting and he lied to them. Go look up Hillary Clinton’s Senate Floor speech on Iraq war vote. It’s very insightful. In the speech she sounds like she knew what she was talking about. She just got screwed by George Bush. But lets remember George Bush wasnt the monster he is today back then. Back then the country was united around him and he screwed us too.

Obama says he has better judgement than Clinton. If so, why did he make several boneheaded decisions with regards to Rezko and a 20 year old bad judgement call with Reverend Wright and his hate-mongering church? In addition, he pressed the wrong button at least five times while voting as an Illinois state senator in the Illinois legislature. Those are not the sort of decisions that I would like to see a President of the United States make, especially when it comes to the button unleashing nukes.

Dailykos just like most blogsphere and mainstream media have not scrutinized Obama. His connections to Rezko, Wright and other seedy figures are all looked over by dailykos. Even in Wright’s case we saw very selective statements by him. The real hateful stuff about Jews, women, and gays has been left out by the TV coverage. McCain’s and Hillary’s associations are researched to detail, as they should be.
Obama is enjoying the favoritism of media and it should stop.

I never thought I see the day where the Media who could care less about Religion would focus on the pastor of a Presidential candidate. Not the policy of the man, not the history of the man, but his pastor. I never seen them do a report about his mother nor his grandparents. I only seen a little snipet of his grandmother in Kenya. But who cares about them, lets focus on his pastor. And now, Obama is the ONLY church goer who agrees with his pastor 100% and shares his views 100%. The media is as bad as it gets. We need to help Obama out and change the tone of the debate. We need to hit up every blog, every newspaper, every talk radio station and make the public aware of Hillary’s role in giving clemency to the 16 F.A.L.N terrorist. We must insist they talk about it. We ust insist they investigate. We must insist that the documents of the clemencies and all names involved are released. We can not let the Clintons and the Clinton Media turn America against Obama. How can we stand by while she touts her experience when we all know she struck a deal with Luis N. Falcon (lobbyist and reported FALN leader) to free the terrorist in exchange for support from the Puerto Rican community in her upcoming senate race. PA needs to know that for the first time in America’s History, clemency was given to 16 terrorist even though they did not request it. It is procedure that you request clemency first. They need to know that the TERRORIST turned in down intitially. They need to know Hillary is willing to sell us out for POWER. It’s up to us. Spread the word.

If Clinton and Obama want to make sure one of them actually wins the election, they need to stop flinging dirt at each other. Here’s a simple way to do this:
Both publicly pledge that if are nominated for President, the other candidate will be their first choice for the Vice Presidential spot.
This immediately puts a stop to personal attacks, or calling their rival’s ability into question; you don’t disrespect you’re the person you’ve chosen to be your second-in-command. The candidates can still debate the issues and clarify their differences, but the main focus of their anger and outrage can now be directed at the Bush-McCain policies of the past 8 years.
This fall, Obama or Clinton will need to lead a unified party if they want to ensure victory. This requires the enthusiastic support of the other, and of the voters who voted for him or her in the primaries and caucuses,
Obama-Clinton, Clinton-Obama – either “dream team” is McCain’s worst nightmare. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama can make that nightmare a reality for him now.

People get a grip. Do you actually believe everything that your minister tells you? Do you obey every word? Hillary Clinton has embarassed me as a white woman. Her, her husband, staff and surrogates have made so many damaging statments that they are the ones we should be criticizing. Never once have I heard Senator Obama make one dispariging remark about her, her gender, her race or white people. If he is so racist as many of you want to believe…please quote one instance. Until then, what a minister says will have no affect on me. I do not believe everything my minister says or believes in but I love my church family as does Senator Obama. If it is guilt by association then Hillary better start digging out of that pile of crap that her campaign wants to feed us.

Little lefties can blame their MSM for being so dishonest since 2001. The Clintons owned the press but when it became obvious she had too much baggage to win the presidency they falsely propped the Hope Man while bailing on their Clinton loyalty. In that time they showed all of Hillary’s weakness which for so long hid and now they are caught with an American Hater as their pony in the race. In the meantime a guy like McCain, middle of the road is going to walk on into the White House as the liberals now understand both their candidates are beyond flawed and actually not worthy. Wow.

Obama wrote about him in his book as if he were the CENTER of his life. He attended his preaching for two decades. he was married in “Holy” marriage. His children were baptized by him. He took campaign advice from him. He donated money. He is in deep with this guy and if you think America is as blind as you think again. He is toast. there was a LOT of ugly stuff that precipitated this walkout. administrators on Kos have stood by while Obama supporters tried to find out real life information on Hillary supporters- their real names, where they lived and worked, etc. supposedly, this is an offense which causes instant banning, yet the person who openly solicited RL information still posts merrily away on Kos.
when i protested about someone commenting about a “death wish” in a thread about hillary, the administrators warned me, not the person posting the secret service bait! basic legal liability considerations have been ignored by the administrators at Kos in their zeal to support obama.
i hope nobody gets hurt as a result of this, but it’s not a safe place to post anymore the way things are now.

Context. Evaluating what people say, especially when it appears to be something controversial, within a gestalt, or context, takes spiritual maturity.
I would ask those who read what follows from such a place – a place that wishes the best for all…
I am a former chaplain (Caucasian and female) who attended two seminaries and spent part of my life in “The Church.”
After reading many of the posts on this latest “Wright” controversy, I decided to check out, not only the church in question, but the reverend’s theological training and background. (I was assuming, based on what has been written and reported, that this was possibly some guy who had received his degree from a less-than-reputable seminary and was probably preaching his so-called “Gospel of Hate” out of his own sense of…whatever.)
Come to find out, Rev. Wright received his Master of Divinity degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School. Hmm. Not exactly “fringe” stuff. And also discovered….he received a doctorate from United Theological Seminary (Ohio)…a school that dared to graduate a woman way back in 1886! Wow. Progressive, to say the least.
Then I checked out Trinity’s website. Lo and behold, I found nearly 60 specialized ministries meant to support and uplift – including a singles community ministry that even offers a group just for “same gender loving” folk!
More wow. (And where’s all that hate?)
So, does this mean I agree with the way Rev. Wright expressed himself on the occasions that have generated so much controversy? No. However, knowing his impeccable theological training, and noting the extensive educational backgrounds of Trinity’s staff…
…and noting as well the remarkable ministries they provide to a wide variety of people within and around their community…
…my inclination is to simply try to “walk in his shoes.” And remember the era he grew up in. Remember what he probably witnessed. Or experienced directly himself. Oprah? Not even a possibility at that time.
Many are soooo quick to judge and condemn… people. So quick to crucify…people. Without attempting to understand.
Without attempting to open….the heart. And by so doing…
…choose to see only the “flaws.” All the while refusing to see any of the grand and glorious.
This is a man who grew a congregation of 72 to a congregation of thousands. A man who, in his own way, attempted to preach the gospel to those who were living a radically different version of “The American Dream.” Quite simply: They were his family. And they were hurting.
No, Barack did not withdraw himself from this pastor who allowed his anger to get the best of him on more than one occasion. But I admire the senator for that. Why?
Because I did the withdrawal thing from my family when it became evident our values were different. I was going to show them…that they had to agree with me or else. And it was a mistake. A huge mistake.
Three years later I returned. More mature. More able to look past our points of difference. More able to find our points of commonality. And more able to express love.
Guess what happened? I found, to my surprise, that I actually had more influence on them by sticking around and being myself…modeling those values so dear to me…than I did when I left them, rejected them.
Thank you, Barack, for “getting it.” You had to know the political risks of sticking with “your crazy uncle.” Yet you chose to anyway. Until the climate got so bad…
I’m sorry things are such that you feel you can no longer even talk with the man without getting condemned, ripped to shreds. Just know, I see the good in him. I didn’t take offense. Rather…I tried to understand. And hope I succeeded.
P.S. Thanks, too, for allowing Geraldine the same kind of error by giving context to her remarks as well. Patently absurd comments? Yes. Just like the ones that came from Rev. Wright. But racist? You said no. And I agree. The era they lived through…no doubt played a role here. You recognized such.
Spiritual maturity at its best.

Well, if it is dirt you want to concentrate on with regard to Barack Obama, why don’t you all go the whole hog and begin to look at the connection between Hillary Clinton and the very same Rezko; as well as the huge connection between Hillary Clinton and the private detective Anthony Pellicano who is also undergoing a trial right now in Hollywood? The bottom line is that Hillary Clinton publicly announced that she was going to use the kitchen sink approach to blunt Obama’s momentun and so started all the disgusting insults, back-handed racist remarks, etc., etc., etc. Hillary Clinton should never have gone there, knowing full well the amount of baggage she is carrying. It is an old tactic – when you have mess to hide, go on the attack to try and deflect attention from that mess. Hillary’s baggage is a train wreck load of tinder just waiting to blow up in this excruciating fire that she has so recklessly lit. Folks want to feed on dirt and drama, then Obama is small fry. Go check Hillary Clinton out and do your research with the same diligence you research Obama. Her dirt and mess goes back many years and involve a lot of people. She doesn’t talk about 35 years of experience for nothing! It is Hillary Clinton’s backers, especially the African-Americans, who need to stop swooning over the memories of the Bill Clinton years. take their rose-tinted spectacles off and see the Clintons for what they have become. When you see and understand the mess that surrounds Hillary Clinton, it then becomes absolutely frightening to think what she would be able to do with the power of the office of the President of the United States.

One of sound mind should never underestimate the power of unity.
Whereas many see and believe that Obama is the candidate of change, at that Hillary is a seasoned politician who does not really have anything new to offer other than the fact that she represents the possibility of the first female US President, our beloved war hero who guarantees a continuation of the current administration’s policies basks in the sun, quietly yet systematically gathering and mobilizing the conservatives in preparation for November’s general elections.
While the freshman, Obama battles with the junior Hillary, soiling each others reputation in the hope of converting a handful who haven’t already made-up their minds as to who they will vote for, the GOP is quietly taking notes, on what attack works; they are ecstatic that their potential challenger is being lynched for them without having to spend a dime; the GOP relishes the bloodbath the democrats are involved in and come November, a divided party will be all McFury will need to waltz his way to the Whitehouse.
The notion that Hillary could somehow win the nomination without tearing the party asunder has not escaped the Party leaders. The majority of Democrats has elected Obama and will feel betrayed if for some reason, the superdelegates decide to deny him the nomination and give it to Hillary.
The only reason the party leaders have not publicly come out for the winning candidate is because their base is practically split. The female baby-boomer and older are vehemently supporting Hillary while the youth, the future of the party and the black voters are totally backing Obama.
When these two blocks, the core of the Democratic base are at odds with each other, the Democratic Party ceases to be a power to reckon with but becomes a joke; a cake-walk for the GOP.
While rules are meant to guide and protect us, there are those who think that they are meant to be broken. As important as Florida and Michigan will be in the fall, they broke the rules and should pay the penalty. The candidates agreed to this prior to the beginning of the primaries, but are now reneging on their pledges to penalize the two states.
This might have been the best chance for a blackman or a woman to win the US-Presidency, but because of the immaturity of the Democratic Party, Lazarus McFury, will justly continue the long tradition of “every white boy and only the white boy born in America having the potential to be the future President of the United States of America.”
This infighting is not good for the Democratic Party and if Gov. Howard Dean, the chairman of the Party can not use his influence privately to end this bloodbath quickly, then he and the party leaders, Pelosi and Reid should publicly embrace one candidate, the one that they believe has the best chance against McCain, preferably the one whose endorsement will not permanently damage the party.
This way and only this way can the Democratic Party, the father of the Republican Party avoid another devastating split such as the one back in 1825 when the Democratic-Republican Party split to form the modern parties. Of course the Republican Party would further split giving rise to the Whig Party before it dissolved in the late 1850′s and its members reverted back to the Republican Party.
That said, the Party leaders should not go to Pennsylvania without an establishment backed candidate because that will solidify the split. The youth and the black vote, ubiquitously the future of the party, will feel betrayed and will seek consolation and recognition amongst the GOP; they will easily vote for Lazarus McFury in the fall.
I strongly believe that Hillary fought well, just like my good friend Mike Huckabee; but unlike Huckaboom, she fought a dirty and vicious battle, throwing everything at her opponent and preferred presidential candidate; providing unnecessary and unsolicited yet much appreciated fodder to the McFury campaign; nevertheless, hers was a loosing battle and in the best interest of the Party, should step down and let Obama prepare for McFury.
Step Down Hillary and let Obama and Adm. Fallon prepare for the general elections. He might give you the position you are best suited for; Secretary of State.

By the time the dems are done tearing each other apart, McCain will be a breath of fresh air. If Obama does not win, blacks will not vote. If Clinton does not win, Southern woman will vote by race and hand McCain the white house.
it is inevitable, i hope mccain picks a democrat running mate.

Democrats are not fighting each other but fighting for the truth to come out. Democrats are being responsible because the only way to know the truth is through fierce debate. To elect the wrong person because democrats want to play goody-two-shoe will be disasterous for the country. I hope more debates had been conducted when Bush was running and we might not have this mess on our hands now.

notricksplease: it is very, very clear that you have very selective eyes and ears and only pick up dribs and drabs here and there that you think support your view of Obama and you totally ignore all the details of facts that go against your view and that will take away your ammunition against him. Obama has answered all these things and taken action to rectify his mistakes. He has and is admiting his mistakes in public and has and is taking steps to be open and transparent in his activities. Why do you ignore Clinton’s mess and the fact that she has failed to match Obama in publicising her activities and decisions. If you want to demonstrate that you are unbiased and are able to see all sides, then also speak about Hillary’s mess, speak even about McCain’s mess. The bottom line is that Hillary Clinton should have had a good long think before starting this fire. Let’s see who gets burnt to a crisp.

I sometimes strongly disagree with the framing of the topics and the content on Political Punch, which may unnecessarily fan the political conflicts out there (just think about the title of this blog for example), but I do respect its author as someone who is willing to entertain opposing viewpoints, civilly. That’s the same reason I find myself drawn to Andrew Sullivan’s and Josh Marshall’s blogs.
I mention this because I feel a bit sorry for ABC at the harshness of many of the comments on here, not that this is the only site prone to a long string of nasty arguments.
I think many if not most of us are sick of the harshness of politics in the US. Yet judging by the comments here (and on most web blogs) it seems it’s just a reflection of the American people.
If we’re going to complaining but the gridlock, divisiveness and combatitiveness of American politics, maybe we have no one to blame but ourselves.

The Clintons hook up with Rush Limbaugh and they wonder why the rest of the Democrats think they’ve lost their minds. Really.
Well, now that Politico and Huffington are starting to ask why Hillary has had it so easy with her business ties, at least someone other than Kos and KO will be talking about it. Media Matters is talking about problems in fairness for Obama at ABC as well, and you know god don’t like ugly. Just ask CNN!
Jake, you could answer what Media Matters is saying about ABC’s coverage of Obama and McCain. I’d be curious to hear what you think.

Will the real Senator Obama please stand up!
Mr. Obama has run his campaign based on one good judgement, not even a vote. He claims the people he surrouinds himself with are the best. These were to be his closest most trusted advisors. So far, they have been proven to be racists, crooks, and behind the scenes deal makers. He keeps aplogizing for the decisions(judgements)h he has made, about the people he has judged to be his mentors, and advisors. Our country can not take the chance. We don’t have the time to see what he truly has up his sleeve. He apparently, like Geoerge W. Bush, beleives the American voters are ignorant and will vote for charisma and charm, not experience. I HOPE too.I hope the voters get it straight and vote for our country and not against it. Vote for our economy, not hope for a change. Vote for our national secutity, and for our rights. The racism that the Obama campaign keeps screaming about is their own. The media just couldn’t see that through their own cloud of misinformation.
Obama we need you to STEP DOWN NOW!!!!!
YOU ARE A WOLF IN SHEEP CLOTHING!!!!
HILLARY 08

The Obama supporters have been incredibly nasty for many months. there are other liberal discussion groups – DU – where the Obama people said very nasty and obscene things about Hillary. Their hatred for our former First Lady and your current Senator goes beyond rational thinking.

Obama is: charasmatic, gives people hope, is a very talented speaker, promises big change, rallies the people, and has overzealous followers, ……………… Sounds a little like Adolf Hitler, doesn’t it.
I mean, really, think about that! No, Obama has no plans of genocide, but don’t be blind like the Germans of the 1930s. NO politician is a savior. NO politician has the power to solve all our problems. NO politician can change things by himself, unless he is a dictator like Hitler was.
Please consider that as you decide who you’ll vote for. Remember the old saying, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

Hillary will mist up and shed some tears in Pennsylvania, touting her ONE year working as an advocate for the Children’s Fund before spending EIGHTEEN years as a corporate lawyer and serving double digit numbers of years on the board for Walmart. She will ask older white women from the working class to send her money, because she has loaned five million dollars of her many millions to her campaign. She will not release her tax returns or her WH files. She will insinnuate that the she is having a tougher in the US as the very rich white wife of the President of the US than a black man raised by a teen single parent, bearing the name “Barack Obama.” Her surrogates, including her co-president partner, Bill, will use the gender and race cards. The Clinton dynasty’s ads will feature the fear and slime politics of personal destruction, including the scorched earth politics that is destroying the Democratic Party. In the meantime, the party elders like John Edwards, Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi sit on their hands and watch the Roman circus proceed and the imperial Clinton co-presidents move on to an unconstitutional eight more years in the WH.

What’s all the hoopla about here anyway about some preacher? I just read that obama got another 9 delegates from Iowa and net 3 from california. Which makes him lead Clinton by like – what? 155 pledged delegates? with several superdelegates leaning to throwing in their lot with the leader?
We should have expected Obama to be swift boated on the issue of the reverend. I kind of doubt that there is a single black person in the country who didn’t at some point in their life find comfort at a church much like wright’s. I saw some of the tapes, and heard nothing beyond what we all know. Yes, it’s a racist society in lots of places, and yes, it’s enough to make people’s blood boil. But instead of ranting and raving all day long, they tolerate the indnigites during the week, then attend a find black church on the week end with some proper fiery sermon, and that helps exorcise the devil. Which devils BTW seem to be lurking big time on this board. many probably the same crowd whp cheered on the military – with its disproportionately many black soldiers – to just go on into Iraq and bring them some of that good american democracy medicine.
Get used to it – you all – Obama will be our next president. There really is no other choice…

Obama should be commended for his ability to appreciate the good in people despite their flaws or certain of their beliefs. America needs more people like this.
Every ne of us is a mixed bag, as is America. We are all imprefect. America is imperfect. We all could improve ourselves. America could be improved in the same way.
One of the biggest flaws I see in America is peoples’ inability to get along with (and tendency to demonize) others who think or believe differently than they do.
We need a president who can promote tolerance of differences. We need a president who supports people for their strengths, despite their flaws. We need a president who doesnt divide and judge people on oversimplistic criteria. We need a president with the courage to see the world in more gradations than just black and white.
Jesus did just that. He was someone who encouraged, above all else, acceptance of others. He mingled with people regardless of their class or status. And he spoke against judging one another (in the sense of condeming someone).
Some things to think about.

At this point, I’m thinking that McCain can have David Duke as a running mate and still beat the Dems… even if they forced the two into a so-called dream ticket.
Every week, it seems as if the two Dem nominees have found more ammo to ensure a Republican victory. Is this some sort of weird but brilliant strategy to over-expose the candidates so much that if the public found out that either one performed animal sacrifices, we would only shrug it off?
I can’t wait to find out Hillary’s tax forms: did she donate to the Nation of Islam? Did she make millions speculating on the mortgage bubble bursting? Is she part owner with Bill in the Empire Club? Is she in fact client no. 8?
Stay tuned for another chapter in “Primary Colors II – the Unauthorized Sequel”

Obama should ust try to bow out gracefully. The long-term, close personal relationship with Reverend Wright is a nail in the coffin for the Democrats to claim the White House. There is no place for those sermons that have been blasphemous, hate mongering, and anti-american. It’s insulting that Obama says he wasn’t aware of the Reverend’s comments. If the media finds the “smoking gun” of Obama, his wife and/or children being at one or more of these sermons then it’s over for him as people will realize not only his very poor judgement in selecting friends/advisors but that he is lying about it now.

Posted by: JD, Pittsburgh, PA | March 16, 2008, 8:49 am 8:49 am

Can someone point out just one example of Obama demonstrating good judgement? You can’t use the Iraq war vote because Obama has already stated he didn’t know how he would have voted because he wasn’t in the senate at that time and didn’t see the intelligence reports (even though he gave a speech in 2002 being against the war–a speech is not the same as a vote). I’m seeing several examples of Obama’s poor judgement that include his relationship with Rezko and purchasing the house/land deal, drugs/sex story and Larry Sinclair, and Rev. Wright’s inflamatory sermons, etc…
Please point out one example of good judgement of Obama that has nothing to do with the Iraq war.

I find it rather ironic that Clinton supporters are suggesting that “These Obama-bots will vote for B.O. no matter what, they’ll even cheat in the caucuses for him. They don’t listen to reason. In fact I don’t think many of them have any frontal lobes in their brains, just operate from somewhere in the limbic system.” After the “3:AM” ads, do we really need to ask who is operating from a fight or flight mindset?

Posted by: Dave | March 16, 2008, 10:50 am 10:50 am

Our pledge of allegiance states that we are one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. When you think about these words, if you are an honest person then you have to admit that they are not true, because we are divided, we don’t all have the same liberties and there is certainly not justice for all.
Right now a large number of white Americans are outraged at the words of the Rev. wright, while a large amount of black Americans are wondering what they are outraged about.
A lot of white Americans see his remarks as racist and unpatriotic, they feel that he hates whites and America.
A lot of black Americans feel that his remarks have some truth to them. That We have bombed several nations for our own selfish reasons, we have killed many innocent men, women, and children.
When he said that America’s chickens were coming home to roost after 911, most white people took that to mean that he is saying that America deserved to be attacked.
Most black people look at it as a what’s good for the goose is good for the gander type of issue, that just like America loves it’s citizens and think it was unfair for someone to kill thousands of innocent people in the workd trade center, then those other countries love their citizens too and America can’t go around the Globe creating chaos and not expcect somenone to strike back at us.
The Rev. Wright didn’t lie about these things. When he said that Hillary didn’t grow up as a little black boy with a single mother, Hillary never had to watch a cab whizz past her because of the color of her skin, Hillary has never been called that offensive word, all of those statrments are true and the only thing racial about them are the actions that many in this country take against people of color.
The remarks that most people saw on tv and the internet were excerpts taken from two different speeches and the editors did’t show what Mr. wright said before or after those comments. The media did this on purpose to incite anger among whites and for a large part it has worked. But the honest white people are not angered, only saddened that this great country of ours in 2008 is still so racially divided. They are saddened that a good man is being wrongly condemned because of the words of another that make some people uncomfortable.
I have heard so many people say that the world is watching our election process, I say, God is watching and I don’t think he is pleased, and I think that is why he has been trying to get our attention and we need to wake up and listen. For example; There was a terrible storm in Atlanta over the weekend that people are saying “came from out of nowhere”
Devastating tornadoes struck four states on Super Tuesday. There was a really bad snow storm in Ohio the day after the primaries there. there were snowstorms and wild fires after the Texas primaries , there are more incidences also, but the words I have heard after every one of these instances were “We have never seen anything like it”
Gas prices are out of control, thousands of people are losing their homes and jobs, groceries are so expensive that many people who once could eat a healthy diet can no longer afford to do so. Our dollar is constantly falling in value, Our education system is steadily getting worse and crime is rampant. Until America recognizes the wrongs we have done and continue to do and don’t try to rectify them, this nation as a whole is going to continue to suffer.
II Chronicles 7:14 If my people which are called by name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.

Obama may in fact still take the nomination as the Super Delegates would support him if he murdered his wife, but the real deal that will seal his fate will be in the general election. Obama should bow out now, let Hillary have it and lets move on

You know what “obama supporters,” you’re in for a damn rude awakening, sooner than later.
I’ll tell you what, when someone can say THIS about Bill Clinton, two months ago, and not hear a peep from you or the media, then I know who’s hypocritical, and talking out of both sides of their mouth. You’re JUST LIKE BUSH SUPPORTERS!:
Sen. Bill Perkins of NY:
“This is not Bill Clinton’s backyard or his plantation. Underscore, plantation, underscore backyard.”
Does Bill Clinton own slaves? Cuz I personally feel smearing a once-good enough Democratic President in favor of a perceived “black” candidate is pretty racist.
Secondly,
YOU DO NOT ATTEND A CHURCH with a pro-nounced focus on “black values,” with a pastor who has been friends with Louis Farrakhan (do you admit he’s a racist, and anti-semite, or are you going to lie about that too?) for a long time; a trip to Tripoli in what, 1984? and Wright gave an award to a guy like Farrakhan and called him a great man…this has all been recent, but Obama feigns surprise that his personal friend/mentor for TWENTY YEARS is so racially focused?
Oh please…along with Michelle Obama’s thesis on “racial divide” and disappointed that her thesis showed that her fellow black peers lost their “black identity”, Wright’s close association with Farrakhan, Obama’s close association with Wright (for TWENTY YEARS!) coupled with Senator Perkins “plantation” comment pretty much tells me how hypocritical Obama, his supporters, and the mainstream media are.
Furthermore, as a flaming liberal, I’m disgusted that Obama supporters are sucking up what the MSM has to sell them, after we’ve spent the last 7 years denouncing them for giving bush cover on EVERYTHING.
You people are ridiculous.

Has Senator Obama bublicly elevated the Republican candidate above Ms. Clinton? Nope, opps, that was Hillary.
Has Senator Obama, in a red rage ranted “SHAME on you Hillary Clinton!!!” Nope, opps. That was Hillary.
Has Senator Obama waited a week or so to see how internal polling says he should respond to rantings from his spouse and/or senior staff? Nope, opps. That was Hillary.
Did Senator Obama go negative on TV in the Wisconsin primary? Nope, opps again. That was Hillary.
Did Senator Obama go negative on TV in Texas and Ohio while declaring he was using the “kitchen sink” attack? Nope. Opps again and again. That was Hillary.
Did Senator Obama wait for internal polling when one of his own spoke out-of-turn? Nope. “Not on my campaign.” Fired, end of story.
Thank you, Senator Obama, for acting as Presidential as possible while the kitchen sink is being continuously thrown at you. You are demonstrating a “Class Act.”
As to Alegre, DailyKOS will miss her. But we won’t miss her laundry list of fellow-travelers who have whined, often thrown around the f-bomb, and in general made Senator Clinton’s supporters look so little and trite.

If one asks questions regarding, or voices opposition to Obama’s platforms, they are personally attacked and called racist. This is an attempt to intimidate people into silence. This is race baiting at its worst. Imagine what this country would be like if Obama sat in the White House. No way will I, and may others, support Obama. Poor Hillary and Ferraro are the victims, right? We know Hillary is ALWAYS THE VICTIM.
One thing I do know is that the Clintons do and have always shamelessly pandered to African Americans. They have played the race card over and over again in this election and please don’t insult me by saying they have not. Bill Clinton makes his frequent visits to all black churches during the election…just like he always did. But ONLY during elections.
Does it surprise anyone that all you hear on the news now is how the flames of racism in America have been fanned?
Whether it is a crazy old black minister or a crazy old elite white woman, we are back to a 1960′s mentality here in 2008.
Have we wiped out years of trying to move beyond racist sentiments? From a quick look at the headlines I would say apparently so. But, I really think the American voters are as sick and tired of this as I am. I think they will make up their own minds and not be swayed by all this rhetoric.
I’m pretty sure when they do, it won’t be in favor of Hillary Clinton. But this is coming from a crazy white woman who likes to think Americans really are better than this.

Olberman should be boycotted – of all the news media pundits out there – he is the most hateful and biased against Hillary. The others appear neutral.
Acccording to him, barack is a saint.

People do make mistake and most mistake can be corrected or it can correct itself but this one never and never can. I will never vote for Obama even if Dem has Obama/Clinton ticket and will consider 3 times before I cast Clinton/Obama ballot also.

To WardCleaver,
My point was: We are ALL Americans. Evidently I didn’t make the point clear. Sorry.
