Kerry: Obama Could Help US Relations with Muslim Nations ‘Because He’s a Black Man’
In an interview with Massachusetts’ SouthCoastToday (watch it HERE), Obama-backing Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., says among other reasons he’s supporting Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is his belief that "it would be such an affirmation of who we say we are as a people. if we could elect an African-American president, young leader, who is obviously visionary about the ability to inspire people."
Kerry said that a President Obama would help the US, in relations with Muslim countries, "in some cases go around their dictator leaders to the people and inspire the people in ways that we can’t otherwise."
"He has the ability to help us bridge the divide of religious extremism," Kerry said. "To maybe even give power to moderate Islam to be able to stand up against this radical misinterpretation of a legitimate religion."
Kerry was asked what gives Obama that credibility.
"Because he’s African-American. Because he’s a black man. Who has come from a place of oppression and repression through the years in our own country."
An African-American president would be "a symbol of empowerment" for those who have been disenfranchised around the world, Kerry said, "an important lesson for America to show Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, other places in the world where disenfranchised people don’t get anything."

WOW Kerry is a total idiot. What is this, open mouth and insert foot day for the Obama camp. Mr. Obama was raised by white grandparents in Hawaii and went to the best schools and Harvard. I wish I was oppressed and repressed as him.
Kerry needs to keep his mouth shut before more damage occurs.

Geez, What do you expect from Kerry except some short sighted messages. No wonder he got swift-boated. Now the blacks have monopoly on being a Uniter. The more they open their mouths, the more the boat sinks.

Jya, Felicia and MattOhio, let us be kind to each other and avoid certain words. Obama is a black man, not a muslim, a moderate leader who can and will help the world understand America and America understand the world. That is what Kerry is saying and that is the reality. Obama represents the American Dream and that is the message he will be bringing around the world, the greatness and brightness of America. A tolerant America and American which can rise above old politics and division, an America which can lead the world out of respect and out of fear. OBAMA08

I do think that a lot of people around the world like Obama and him representing America abroad would have a very positive impact on our foreign relations. I am an American living in Italy and my neighbors, people I meet in the market, socialize with, work with, are all hopeful that Obama gets elected. People want to believe in America again, Obama inspires their trust in a way that Clinton and McCain do not. I am sure that he would be able to communicate with Africa and the Islamic world, critical areas for our foreign policy and national security in coming decades, in a way the others could not. Go Obama!

That won’t turn the tide. It will dig the sand pit deeper.
Drop the race angle. We do need that conversation. We don’t need it in the context of a Presidential campaign where all sides spin it to personal advantage. That will dilute the importance of it and reduce it back to sound bytes.
All you are doing with these stories is making Rush Limbaugh look like a political prophet. Is that what you really want to do?
The biggest losers in this campaign are the major news networks and their correspondents. They’ve all turned into Fox and Hannity. Our governance depends on the independence of the news. For pity’s sake, do the job and not the wet work.

@ Chan…
I must ask you, what has Hillary done that is so terrible? What has her campaign done that is so wrong? What has she said or done to cause damage?
A canadian news station came out with the Obama’s NAFTA issue, the media has come out with Obama’s Rezko relationship, and Fox News bought the recordings of Rev. Wright from the church Obama has atteneded for the past 20 years.
So please, tell me why Hillary is responsible for Obama’s mistakes and the media picking up on them.

Well, anyone that supports obama naturally supports his endorsers. What a complete idiot John Kerry is.
Maybe he just got an overdose of Heinz Catsup?
Hillary should be thinking how lucky she is that Kerry didn’t endorse her.
So, Geraldine Ferraro states that obama has gotten where is he because he is Black and gets the entire book thrown at her by obama – and his own endorser John Kerry states that the USA needs him to work with muslims because he is BLACK? and that goes unchallenged?
Holy Cow – apparently the anointed obama AND HIS SUPPORTERS AND ENDORSERS can say anything racist at all and it is endeared by the media and sucked up by his rabid supporters.
Oh the second coming is NOT COMING.

Oh, is that what Obama was doing for the last 20yrs? Obama listened to the hate spewed from the pulpit – and by his inaction, agreed with it. If he didn’t agree with it, why didn’t he try to “bridge the divide” in his own life circumstances?

Now is that really because he is black Kerry or is it that you really want to say maybe with Obama’s family links this may make moderate Islam a little more willing to go along with the US?
Which is it Kerry am sure the American people would love a little more insight into exactly what your theory on this is, all these revelations are getting very interesting now.

Do some research.

To solve the tight relationship with China, we should elect a Chinese-American to be president!
To solve the crisis in Iraq, we should elect an Iraq-American to be president!
To solve the mid-east problem, we should elect an Arabian-American to be president!
How many presidents we want!
Kerry wants to regret he supported Obama, he just can not find a graceful way. So he has to be sticky to Obama.

Obama has went to the finest U.S. prep schools and universities (probably on government grants), and he lives a millionaire’s lifestyle in a large mansion. I could only hope that my white children are that oppressed and repressed. Maybe with Kerry’s wife being a billionaire, a mere millionaire is considered oppressed and repressed!

Posted by: golfgirlusa | March 20, 2008, 3:35 pm 3:35 pm
During the last month, one thing that has become very apparent to me is that the Democrats made horrible choices in 2004. Howard Dean luckily did not win the nomination. He is showing no leadership at all. Instead, through his no action of Florida and Michigan issues, proves where he aligns. Last night at dinner, speaking with friends, we all agreed it is a good thing he didn’t get the nomination. However, as John Kerry has been proven lately, he also was a terrible choice and luckily for the county, my vote did not win my state for Kerry.
Obama is in a mess now, that I feel he created, and no amount of spinning from his supporters on these blogs or his supporters when they speak to the media can undo. Obama didn’t want race to be an issue and yet injected it often when convenient. This week, he asked for a conversation. The conversation has started and unfortunately for him, his supporters are not speaking very well.

I find Kerry’s logic thinking is terribly bad.
This is an example.
Another example is, he said the superdelegates should follow the voters in that state. We all know that, MA gave votes to Hillary, he is superdelegate in MA, then he should vote for Hillary!
That’s why he even lost to Bush. He is more terrible than Bush!

Kerry: “it would be such an affirmation”… “Because he’s African-American. Because he’s a black man. Who has come from a place of oppression and repression…” Isn’t this what Geraldine Ferraro was trying to say? The Obama camp is stating one thing but hint at another. The official line is – “Look past the color issue”…. Yet they say… “His background will be a great plus”… in other words, if anyone outside of the Obama campaign mentions it, then it is racist. On the other hand they can use it as a positive, because they can’t be racist. Tortured logic but great tactic… have your cake and eat it too!

Obama is not my american dream. He is a liar and a fake. The people that knew him throughout his life has stated that Obama’s perception of his life is very different than what really was. He was raised very well off and went to private schools and his classmates from school are very surprised at his remarks. His school was very disversified and according to his friends he was popular and seemed really happy and they are shocked at his statements.

More ignorance from Kerry. Obama is a “symbol of empowerment” and as a black man will therefore be the super-diplomat???? How very simplistic and misinformed. For example, Obama wouldn’t even have an edge in any brokering in Kenya. Obama’s father was of the Luo tribe and the majority of the Kenyans are Kikuyu. I hear the Kikuyus are Hillary Clinton supporters.

I wasn’t angry on Kerry before, now I’m angry. He caused that! He stirred up the race topic again. This is an old topic, older than the time before civilization. Obama claimed to bring something new. However, he brough such bitter, old topic to our new era, to our young generation.
I want to enjoy life. I want a easy life. I don’t want bitterness.
Go away, Obama, Kerry!

I cannot see what was so bad about Kerry’s comments. They were not the same as Ferraro’s. He did say that the only reason Obama was in this position was because he is blk. He said that being black could be an asset in dealing with people in darker nations. He said that we will be showing that our country can live up to our promise. What Kerry said is not a new sentiment. Clinton said the same thing of herself. Of course she said that being a woman would make a difference in some dealings around the world. If we are all Americans both white and black (and other races), why can’t we have a leader of any race or gender?
Posted by: Stacey | March 20, 2008, 3:52 pm 3:52 pm
First, Kerry and other supporters were mad at anybody who say anything about Obama being black (i.e., Ferraro) but now he says that only a black man can help us working with Muslim? is Kerry saying that the rest of us (non-Blacks) are incapable of doing so?
Kerry should apologize to the whole country for making this remark!
Posted by: vote4thebest | March 20, 2008, 3:52 pm 3:52 pm
Well, it is apparent Kerry didn’t read the hand book about talking to, for or about black people or even bragging on them. Having a woman as president might help the women of these Islamic governments more than a black man. You have black Arabs killing black men and women in Darfur. I doubt if Obama could do anything about that.
Right now, this president we have and VP Cheney along with McCain are saying that the deaths of our men and women will have been worth it when we win in Iraq. Winning to them is just being able to get out without anyone saying we are running which might be in 100 years. When we get out, we will have another extreme Islamic country where women will not have the right to dress except as ordered, no right to an education and where Christians will be killed for practicing their faith. If those three think that our men and women’s life was that cheap, then they need to live in Iraq with the government that are helping to form.
There is no way Obama being a black man can help unless he gets off his pedestial and realizes he has made many mistakes and stop trying to brush them away and cover them up. It is hard to cover up 20 years of participating in a life with hate and in a church that preaches hate for this Country and most of its people.
Posted by: Mickey | March 20, 2008, 3:56 pm 3:56 pm
Yes I agree that having a woman as president would do much more for the “people” of extremist regimes or religious states than Mr. Obama.
It amazes me how often men like John Kerry forget that at least 50% of the people of these countries are women. Women he obviosuly cares nothing for and doesn’t see or even know exist.

Why didn’t he think carefully at the beginning who Obama really is?
What’s the reason he supports Obama? Definitely he just wants to revenge on Clinton.
He is very bitter in his heart actually. He even begged his younger brother Obama to give him a good position if Obama is elected.

Obama has lived his life with far more material assets than most Americans. The Preacher isn’t hurting for material things. I don’t think either have been as oppressed as Obama would like for us to believe. AND, even if they were, that is no reason for the REV. to be such a racist and to hate this Country where he has done so well. He has had it far better here than he would have in Africa. Both of them owe this Country as all of its citizens owe this Country our loyalty. Michelle owes more than what she evidently hasn’t been willing to give. How can Obama bring any other Country together or to get them to listen to us when he won’t be able to get this Country together. Due to his racist way and associations with people who hate this Country, he has split us apart.

Ever since Mr. Obama started his campaign he and his supporters have made much of the fact that it is not important that he is black, that he is not running as a black canidate but just happens to be a canidate who is black. Kerry and Kennedy have praised the fact that he is a canidate that has transended race and his appeal has nothing to do with the fact that he is black. They are proud to point out that he is wining because the american people have looked beyond color and see him as a visionay and unifying leader.
Now it appears that Mr. Kerry is saying that the central reason why he would make a great president is that he is black and therefore have a greater ability to work with muslim countries. It appears that those who support Mr. Obama are willing to use his color as they wish in order to promote his canidacy. If it is the american electorate then Kerry says don’t look at his skin color if it is forgein policy then look at his skin color. Kerry and other can’t have it both ways you can’t say we should be color blind in one instance and predisposed to it in another, no that is not logical. It appears that Kerry is using race as a politicl advantage when they seed the need for it and play it down when they see it is not. This playing of race is the old style politics that Mr. Obama has said that he is running against. Well it appears that Kerry and others are resorting to it when they are in trouble. That can’t be the change Mr. Obama is talking about!

I guess the JFK legacy didn’t work for Kerry and Kennedy so they have to adapt. But saying Obama should be elected because he’s black doesn’t say much for qualifications. I guess 8 years of Bush has led to the dumbing down of the presidency and any candidate will do. Even Obama with his African-centric beliefs and racist church affiliations.

Mr. Kerry: Would it not be just as inspirational to the rest of the world and the majority of females who inhabiat it to see a woman elected president! Would this not be inspiring to muslim women who would say if the United States of America is willing to elect a woman would this not stir muslim women world wide to challenge their goverments to treat them a equal citizens. Mr. Kerry being a male fails to grasp the fact that Hillary could be an inspirational leader showing women world wide that they can accomplish anything! Women Mr. Kerry, Yes They Can!!

Yes Obama “Could Help US Relations with Muslim Nations”, NOT ‘Because He’s a Black Man’, but because he has a pastor saying 9/11 is US own fault.

If you listen to Senator Kerry’s full comments he makes perfect sense. His suggestion is a very wise one. And, frankly, I see nothing wrong with the comments at all. Of course, when you take anything out of context and splice it together you can make it sound any way you like. Why someone would do this thought is beyond me. Senator Kerry has offered his support to Senator Obama, he is not a member of his campaign.
Could it be to get back at him for not supporting Senator Clinton? I have to wonder. I also have to wonder is there isn’t some collusion going on between the Clinton’s and the media to push all of this nonsense about Obama and now Kerry.

Posted by: University Of Iowa | March 20, 2008, 10:30 pm 10:30 pm
For somebody who wanted to transcend race and move politics into a post-racial era, Mr. Obama seems to sense a great opportunity to use race to advance his candidacy. That much for the post-racial era.
After his speech, his surrogates seem to be stoking the American guilt by outwardly pointing us to the “blackness” of Mr. Obama. Awkward as he always is, Mr. Kerry is making us believe that the people in the Muslim world will respect America, while America gets roiled in more divisive racial politics, thanks to Ms. Ferraro, Pastor Wright, Mr. Obama and his surrogates, commentators, and the media.
Perhaps this strategy of using race to one’s advantage may work in the short run, but I do not know how long this will last.
At least now, some of us realize that the “Saint Obama veil” covering the ordinary and manipulative politician has dropped. Now, he joins the ranks of rest of the candidates. The difference in misrepresentation, manipulation, and deception is one of degree than of kind between the candidates now.
Not too bad, for the politics in America has maintained remarkably similar undertones for over a century.

University of Iowa, I lock my doors and feel insecure in any “bad” neighborhood no matter what color the people are. If I see a black man in casual attire who doesn’t have that “could be a criminal” appearance, I don’t feel insecure. The whole locking doors thing is a favorite comic line.

I’ve enjoyed all the race crap I can stand. If Obama sat in that church on Sundays for so many years I will never believe that he didn’t hear what was said. The only thing that could have salvaged his credibility was to get up and leave after the very first remark and never go back. Who does he think he’s fooling? If he wants to be someone’s victim or is satisfied to let someone else be a victim then he’s not presidential material.

The first qualification to be commander in chief is you must be proud to be an American. Between Barack and Michelle Obama…there doesn’t seem to be much America has done that they are proud of. You guys that think that the world will love America because of a black president live in the land of Oz. I compare it to the false notion of Europe respecting the USA. I have been to Europe many time for many years and even in the Clinton era I was shocked how much the establishment, press and many people despites America (or perhaps envy America). So thinking that as soon as Bush is out Muslims and European will love us, that is a quite naive thought. As long as we maintain the position of leaders of the world and #1 power, we will not be loved nor liked. Human nature is that we all try to bring down, embarrassed, or defeat anyone who is in first place. Open your eyes and believe!

My husband is a pastor. People in our church know the content of his character after sitting under his ministry for years. They know his ideals, his values and what he stands for. Obama has been under Jeremiah Wright’s ministry for 20 years. There is no way he did NOT know the true content of his character. The only reason he has come out now and renounced what Wright has said about whites, Jews and America is because it is politically expedient for him to do so. John Kerry (and now Bill Richardson) are ignorant fools to back this man who has absolutely NO experience to be president. Sure he’s young, charismatic and can whip a crowd into an almost religious frenzy, but those are not qualifications for President.

John Kerry ranks very high among the fools of this generation. He is a proven liar. He has been called a coward by some according to his anti-American comments and his war record in South East Asia. He is also dangerous because he would attempt to negoptiate with evil, a sure plan for failure. Simply because Obama speaks well and is Black doesn’t assure that he can achieve any more success with the Islamic terrorists than have the non-Black people who have tried to find peace in the Middle East. This lifelong Democrat is switching to Independent for good and voting for McCain if Obama is the only other choice. The recent developments revealing Obama’s long time affiliation with a racist based church and Wright have done a lot of damage to race relations which the MSM isn’t even addressing.

Kerry is a “typical white man” commenting on a “typical black man” in the manner of a “typical politician.”

The reason we wound up with Kerry as the nominee in 2004 is because the process ended too soon. He was an awful candidate and if we had continued on with the primaries, maybe we wouldn’t have been stuck with him. When will the democratic party stop letting red and reddish state democrats vote first and choose who our nominees are. This is whacked on it’s face.

Of course, like always, the Obama camp playing the race card. Senator Kerry, I voted for you. I may only be a “typical white person” to you, Obama and his supporters, but I am Democrat. If he wins this nomination, my vote goes to anybody but Obama.

that is the most racist thing I have ever heard. I am offended by Senator Kerry’s racism and call on him to resign. I am a black women who will never support Senator Obama because he is not good for his Country. To say he will make a good president because he is black is not only ridiculas but also racist. I wonder if Senator Kerry will be willing to go to jail when Obama proves to be the traitor to this country that he is. I think perhaps that should be the case all those Super dels and the crooks in the DNC should all be arrested for treason. I will never vote against the interests in this country. I hope my fellow Americans of all races join me in renouncing Senator Obama and his racism and sexism. I hope that Obama never becomes President because he will be worst then George Bush.

I watched Sen. Kerry and Sen. Graham on Face the Nation today, and came away with only one conclusion. Sen. Kerry in not only stupid, but he is very ignorant. During response to questions, Sen. Graham sat politely while Sen. Kerry answered questions posed to him, while Sen. Kerry kept interupting while Sen. Graham had his turn to respond. This shows me that Sen. Kerry is a Crude, Rude ASS. What can you expect from a Democrat??

I’m so tired of this whole race obsession and game that the Democratic party plays. They continue to accuse others of racisms when in the last 6 months it has shown that they are really the bigoted ones. I am so upset with the Democratic party, having been a registered Democrat for 20 years I am going to register independent this year and vote for either McCain or a 3rd party candidate.

Jake,
You should have asked Senator Kerry, another question which is how do you feel about turing our government into social economics, similar to Marxism?
