More on those Clinton Fat Cats
The 20 Clinton-backing fat cats who vaguely threatened House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to change her tune on superdelegates lest their purses and pocketbooks slam shut have contributed almost "$24 million to Democratic candidates and committees over the last 10 years," according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.
They’ve donated almost $554,000 to Sen. Hillary Clinton’s Senate and presidential campaigns and her leadership PAC — compared to less than a tenth of that, $52,200, for Sen. Barack Obama.
"To borrow from an investment firm’s old ad campaign," says the Center, "when big donors talk, politicians listen."
Also: John Aravosis at Americablog says just under a third of these donors had Lincoln Bedroom overnights. (Perhaps more.)
- jpt
UPDATE: ABC News’ Political Director David Chalian reports that a Democratic operative unaffiliated with either campaign and familiar with the reaction to the letter among Members of Congress says, "Members of Congress – who are superdelegates – make up the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee" or DCCC from which the donors seemed to be threatening to withhold funds.
"Threatening the DCCC is equal to threatening the superdelegates Sen. Hillary Clinton’s trying to court. The Clinton donor letter will just push undeclared superdelegates in Congress leaning toward Obama to endorse him sooner. It also reinforces the narrative that she’ll destroy the party to win."

If Nancy Pelosi does not know the rules and history of making superdelegates, she is not fit to speaker.
If she changes the rules of democratic party, hell why should these donors give money to this party.

Well, of course it does. This whole letter only shows what a miserable and counterproductive campaign Clinton is running.

I guess they think they can buy her the nomination. The Clinton camp is in it’s death throes, and frankly it’s become an ugly death to watch. I wish the super delegates would go ahead and commit to the front runner and let this bitter mess end before it does in the democratic party. You sell the nomination to Clinton and you’ve sold my ties to the democratic party. Oh, by the way, I’ve provided financial support to Obama, as well as to the party. I believe the money threats come from people that expect favors (i.e. decisions, favorable actions)from their investments and I wouldn’t miss their support anyway. This all relates to the problem that’s going on with lobbyists who buy our politicians vote with these donations. If thats the money that the fat cats are threatening to withold, fine. I’d rather do it without them anyway. I believe Mr. Obama feels the same way.

remeber folks this statement was not a threat it was a statement that unless pelosi plays fair there is no reason for thease doners to continue to support the dnc, they certainly have the right to either donate or not, this is still a free country.they also have the right to speak their minds just as all of us do on thease blogs.the differance is they chose a more public forum.count all the votes or dont complain if funding sources dry up.

All the Clintonistas are in full panic mode. Look at how many of the obviously hysterical postings, just on this one web page, are pro-Clinton. This is because the train is leaving the station, and their candidate is still on the platform, trying to win at any cost. Nancy Pelosi was merely stating the obvious, that if the superdelegates turnover the the results of the primaries, then there will be problems in November. Don’t blame Obama for Florida and Michigan, HRC agreed to the terms and then went back on her word (surprise). Now her supporters are threatening the DCCC. I think the names of the so-called fat cats should be published with a decription of their justifications for continuing to fund Hillary. They do this despite that it is a near mathematical impossibility for her to win at this point (in a way that wont destroy the Democratic Party–i.e., a reasonable and fair way). And with every day that passes Obama is subjected to more dirty attacks and McCain elevated simultaneously.
Posted by: Mike Denhof | March 27, 2008, 11:45 am 11:45 am
I find it curious when people claim that it’s Obama that it’s ignoring voters, when it’s Senator Clinton’s own staff that helped set up the rules: that if Michigan and Florida went early they’d lose their seats. At the time it didn’t matter to the Clinton campaign, they could demonstrate the strong leadership role they were taking in the party by making the hard decision and playing tough with “rogue” states.
I imagine that’s because they were sure that she’d have the nomination in the bag… although she still didn’t take her name off the ballot in Michigan, when all other candidates did, and she still promoted herself in Florida “I’m not campaigning, I’m just fund-raising!” Wily political maneuvering there.
Now that the race is tight, that she “won” in states that she promised to not to campaign in but practically still did, and in one case even ran against no other candidates, she wants those clearly non-representative votes to count. Now she’s democractic… oh except for the superdelegates, the party elite should vote for the party elite no matter what the people choose.
I’ve been really disappointed in Senator Clinton in this campaign, more so with the people and staff she’s drawn to herself. I agree with Bill Richardson’s assessment, to paraphrase “I respect the Clintons immensely, but some of their staff engage in gutter politics.” To me that’s a failure of leadership. Unfortunately, I think this campaign will hurt Senator Clinton in the long run, not just in this run for President, but her career as a politician. I also think it’s not going to turn out too well for Bill Clinton’s legacy either. But this is all just one voter’s perspective.
Regardless, I agree that FL and MI could be real challenges for Dems in the fall.

Wow! I have already been upset by the money contributed by “fat cats” to the Hillary campaign. Now, those “fat cats” are again using the power of the purse to influence an election in which the decision has already been made. I guess “fat cats” are as tenacious as Hillary about refusing to follow rules.

LOM — I’m not worried. I said the will of the people will carry the day, and I’m perfectly fine with that. It’s not Obama that’s trying to influence the selection process by overturning legitimate votes. And Obama stated repeatedly he’s support a revote in MI and FL, if it were fairly carried out. Only the Clinton camp would have the audacity to demand to count a state on which their primary opponent wasn’t even on the ballot.
Posted by: Jerry L | March 27, 2008, 11:52 am 11:52 am
The wording of the note may have been relatively mild, but this is clearly a threat. It will backfire on the Clinton campaign. It has motivated me to give a bit more to Obama. He’s not perfect, but so much better than the alternatives.

Some say that I, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, should have spent Easter weekend in Chappaqua, writing my withdrawal speech and preparing for my return to the Senate. They ask why I stay in the ’08 race when Obama has an insurmountable lead in states, delegates, and popular vote. My strategy is for victory in the 2012 presidential election. I will continue to pursue several lines of attack on Obama including denouncing his experience, blaming him for the fiascos in Michigan & Florida, and even praising our Republican rival Senator John McCain as more patriotic and experienced than Obama. My goal is to do extensive damage to Obama to ensure that he looses the general election in ’08 and pave the way for my eventual election in 2012! It’s a HILLARYOUS strategy, but I will be president by any means necessary.

American are still sleeping; they don’t see why Clintons want to win the nomination and possible to WH because:
1. They want to take whatever left from America wealth to pay for their debts. The fat cats, the foreigners, the countries like Saudi, China, India, etc.
2. They are thirsty for power, they don’t care about America & American. Soon they are back to WH, they drop you like trees drop leaves in the fall.
Do you want to prolong the dynasty: Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clintons? do you want Bill back to WH? American like buy one get one free, therefore they will vote for Hillary so Bill can be co-president (like she was his).
The Clintons are playing Tonya Harding strategy so Hillary can run again in 2012. I lost my respect for them. I will vote for any quality female, but not Hillary. I am an independent

“They do this despite that it is a near mathematical impossibility for her to win at this point (in a way that wont destroy the Democratic Party–i.e., a reasonable and fair way)”
You guys give Clinton so much credit. If a SINGLE person can take down the entire Democratic Party, you have to admit that she must exhibit some powerful leadership skills to orchestrate such an event.
I only interpret statements like this as you are willing to dismiss the preference of ~25% of the population who are supporting Hillary. There are no mathematically improbabilities at this point and following the rules to get the 2,025 (with pledged and unpledged delegates) seems like a very reasonable and fair way.
Posted by: LOM | March 27, 2008, 11:55 am 11:55 am
Pelosi comment is merely just the rules–she’s repeating rules that already exist. HRC is spinning this as if Pelosi cames up with the statement on her own like it’s some NEW concept.
It’s a shame. HRC is doing a disservice in lying to her supporters and spinning to the media–many whom know the truth (that it’s the rules) but want HRC in office or want the dems to keep fighting so that McCain can get the office.
Pelosi is just one superdelegate. She repeated the rules. However it’s well known (just not done historically) that the supers can vote as they feel and yes they know that. Pelosi offering her opinion is just that. The supers are grown men and women–many smarter in the world of politics than you and me. What they choose to do with their vote is up to them. Pelosi can offer an opionion but that is all it is.
By HRC “threatening” her, she will only serve to alienate Pelosi’s friends and Pelosi herself. Nancy has not formally endorsed a candidate and being a white woman and friends of the Clintons in the past HRC is guarantee to push Nancy to vote Obama.
Anyways not my problem. However lies do offend me. The other one that Obama prevented MI and FL from having revotes is another bald lie that many supers and pundits who dont’ do the spin know to be a lie too. MI and FL lawmakers held series of meetings and decided for THEMSELVES it was feasible due to time and mostly costs. To say Obama made the decision for them implies that those in the know are very stupid and ignorant and beleive anything they are told.

DON’T BE DUPED !!!
Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses from early on. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And because they feel that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket would be unbeatable. And also because with a Clinton and Obama ticket you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very soon.
But first, all of you have to make certain that Hillary Clinton takes the democratic nomination and then the Whitehouse. NOW! is the time. THIS! is the moment you have all been working, and waiting for. You can do this America. “Carpe diem” (harvest the day).
I think Hillary Clinton see’s a beautiful world of plenty for all. She is a woman, and a mother. And it’s time America. Do this for your-self, and your children’s future. You will have to work together on this and be aggressive, relentless, and creative. Americans face an even worse catastrophe ahead than the one you are living through now.
Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama’s. She also leads in the electoral college numbers that you must win to become President in the November national election. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!
As much as 30% of Obama’s primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.
Hillary Clinton has been out manned, out gunned, and out spent 2 and 3 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton.
If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is. YOUNG PEOPLE. DON’T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose.
The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. I suggest a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket. Everyone needs to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton NOW! So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.
I think Barack Obama has a once in a life time chance to make the ultimate historic gesture for unity, and change in America by accepting Hillary Clinton’s offer as running mate. Such an act now would for ever seal Barack Obama’s place at the top of the list of Americas all time great leaders, and unifiers for all of history.
The democratic party, and the super-delegates have a decision to make. Are the democrats, and the democratic party going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee to fight for the American people. Or are the republicans going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee through vote fraud, and gaming the DEMOCRATIC party primaries, and caucuses.
Fortunately the Clinton’s have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton’s. Only the Clinton’s are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.
Sincerely
jacksmith…

Given the fact the the Clintons and their staff are experienced campaigners, and that her race plans have been in the works since 2000, isn’t it alarming how terribly run her campain has been? They’ve switched postions daily (Fla/Mich dont count – yes the do; elected delegates are ‘it’; no, its popular vote; no, its super delegates; no, the number of states; no its the number of big states; no, its the number of electoral vote states; no, its the amount of money your supporters gave to the DNC over the last few years. Its okay not to count Fl/Mich; no its not okay to disenfranchise voters; yes it is okay to disenfranchise voters by threatening the DNC with complaints from big donors. And yesterday, Bill declared it okay to keep people on your staff who say despicable things – but it was not okay for Powers to stay on Obama’s staff… ; what is important is to bring us together; no – its more important for me to win regardless of whether I tear us apart…And so on and so on). And we haven’t even touched on the mishandling of the campaign finances, or ‘misstatements’ on experience, or calls for transparency while fighting every step of the way not to disclose your own documents and donations to the Clinton machine (including the Foundation). The thought of people like this running my country is frightening. I hope the DNC and superdelegates are paying careful, close attention!

Nothing heavy-handed in the letter huh?
This quote says it all:
We therefore urge you to clarify your position on super-delegates “AND REFLECT IN YOUR COMMENTS A MORE OPEN VIEW TO THE OPTIONAL INDEPENDENT ACTIONS OF EACH OF THE DELEGATES AT THE NATIONAL CONVENTION IN AUGUST.”
The authors of this letter are making clear that, in addition to clarifying the role of the super-delegates, Pelosi should highlight that even the “pledged” delegates representing the voters of their states can go against the wishes of their states to cast their votes for the opposing candidate.
What the Hillary supporters are essentially saying is that Pelosi should remind “pledged” delegates in all the states that Obama won that it is perfectly acceptable if they disenfranchise the voters of their states at the convention.
The Clintons, their campaign and financial supporters are the epitome of hypocrisy, as they, one one hand, cry out that FL and MI should not be disenfranchised – but, on the other hand, suggest that all the states that did not vote for Hillary should be disenfranchised.

And to “Yoo”, no, we who are supporting Obama don’t see him as “immune” to anything. We do know that he is not taking special interest money, zero from PACs, which would include these committee members PACs.
You know, WE don’t think Obama is invincible or that he’s some sort of savior. That’s what the chatterboxes who have nothing better to say claim, that we’re all being duped. We know he’s a politician. We know he’s not immune. We do recognize that he has an ability to lead and motivate.

As stated right here on this blog, contrary to what the Obamas would have you believe, this is a close contest and the reason why you see the Obama campaign spinning every little word said by anyone associated with the Clinton campaign is because he needs the superdelegates to get to 2,025 and he won’t get them. Sad to watch the “Rookie” of the Democratic party fall on his face.

I think its great that a few non elected individual can dictate what the elected officals should do. Why else would people donate large sums of money if not to influence the direction the country should go. Who cares what the people think.

Yep. As I stated…it’s obviously full-scale panic time for Hillary’s people. Hillary’s “tonya harding” option is backfiring, and only her most hysterical, blind and babbling backers can fail to see that. It’s really simple as ABC:
a. Count the legitimate votes.
b. Don’t count rouge states. Play by the rules you helped establish.
c. Have the SuperDelegates represent the will of their voters instead of the DCCC.
Yeah, I can see where all of that is unAmerican, as far as Clinton’s camp is concerned.

jacksmith, it is you who is being “duped”. First of all, I don’t really care what the Republicans are up to with their mischief voting. Really, who cares?? Well, I guess you do, apparently. So do you not care that in Texas the Republican vote went for the first time for Hillary “coincidentally”, after Rush Limbaugh urged his followers to vote for her to “bloody up” Obama?
No, that’s OK, you’ll take THOSE voters, right? Give me a break.
The TRUTH:
This election is NOT close. Hillary would have to win about 70% of the remaining delegates to overtake Obama in the pledged delegates. Even if you add in the popular vote of Florida AND Michigan, the latter in which he didn’t even have his name on the ballot, he is still in the lead with the popular vote.
TRUTH:
The super delegates are not going to overturn the will of the people. Not if they want to be re-elected to their congressional seats and their governorships.
TRUTH:
Despite all of the flap over race and the pastor, Obama polls better against John McCain than Hillary does. He CAN win, and it would really help if Hillary stopped elevating John McCain over Obama, to whom she gushes that she really does want unity in the party. (yeah, right.)
TRUTH:
In this negative environment, that McCain isn’t holding a HUGE lead over either Democrat means he’s going to be trounced in November.
Jacksmith, vote for whomever you want, support whomever you want. But why in the world would you let Republicans influence you in your choice??

The Clinton Fat Cats want to go back to sleep in the White House-the Lincoln bedroom, that is their objective, they want to buy the presidency, what a trouble for Hill. They know that with Obama they will not that opportunity to overnight at the White House, so they are threatening Dean, Polosi and Reid and push for their hotel manager Bill Clinton to win a 3rd term. God bless America and God bless Obama. OBAMA08.

Tony, back your lies up with truth. These donars have only given 24 million over 10 years to the DNC. Obama has raised 113 million in one year based on the American people(small donations). The Special intrests are screaming out now that they see their last chance to control things, is dying with their candidate HRC.

i really wonder how bright some obama supporters are first they say follow the rules concerning fl and mi and then they say super delegates follow the rules and vote will of the people.RIGHT ON FIRST RULE TOTALLY WRONG ON THE SECOND ,party rules specificaly say the super delegate are to follow there best judgement it says nothing about will of the people so get it right if your able.

Of course, FL & MI should get their votes counted, but their lunatic party leaders & the DNC couldn’t figure out how to get past power plays to a resolution, so count them all out, starting w Howard Dean. Why those voters don’t scream & boot them all is a complete mystery. In any case, Pelosi is right, whether she’s a VP contender w Obama or not. HRC was my fav going into all this, but these desperation tactics have lost me. Hill, give it up, go home, and wait 2 years until everyone figures out that the Obama voters went for McCain in the fall & we’ll have 4 more years of “things are getting better, just you wait & see” while our children die in Iraq, our neighbors die in hospital waiting rooms wondering about insurance, the people over a block die of starvation, and the DNC lets blowhard Dean continue to set a useless agenda. Democrats have received my last vote. Of course, Republicans never got one. Guess I’ll have to start a hobby to fill my empty life.

DNC rules for the nominating process:
(1) a delegate hasn’t won until they get 2,024 pledged delegates
So, if neither candidate reaches the 2,024 threshold by pledged delegates then neither candidate has won.
(2) the super delegates are to exercise their independent judgment as to the candidate they vote for.
One of them may be ahead, but he/she has not won. Further, the super delegates are not obligated, in any way, to vote for the candidate who is ahead in pledged delegates, popular vote or any other measure.
These are the DNC rules

Whoa, Dave! “Some Americans need to be protected from themselves”, you said. Amazing! No doubt that’s what any dictator would say when shutting down elections in his / her country. Aren’t we in the U.S. lucky to smart people like you and the SuperDelegates to watch out for us?
Too bad about that whole “one person, one vote”, “will of the people” thing, eh?
Posted by: Jerry L | March 27, 2008, 12:21 pm 12:21 pm
Take a deep breath everyone. This election won’t see meaningful trends for another half a year. The reality is that whomever receives the eventual nomination will receive the wholehearted support of the other and all this invective and in-fighting will give way to healing and reason. The current polls mean NOTHING. The reason Democrats will win in the fall is that the alternative candidate, John McCain represents 8 years of failed policy on all fronts- A war that John says he would still have waged knowing what he knows now-a position with which a vast majority of Americans do not agree. Clips of his promise “that there will be other wars” will run along with his “Bomb Iran” song. He will be linked to an administration that called for fiscal conservatism and racked up $4 trillion in debt-not including the $3 trillion we’ll rack up in Iraq. The calls for “smaller governmemt” will be matched with calls for signs of ANY effective government-one that can keep people from dying in New Orleans, keep lead out of our toys, diseased cattle out of our food supply, illegal immigrants from crossing our borders, contraban-or worse- out of our ports and “free market” greedy pigs from conning millions into mortgages that they couldn’t afford while we stood by silently. The guy that “doesn’t know much about the economy” will be put on center stage at the height of this recession. Close elections get decided two weeks before the votes are cast. Exhale.

The Pelosi threat goes right along with the attacks on Richardson. That “Judas” remark sounded a lot like a threat, too.
By the way, here’s the response from Pelosi’s office:
“Speaker Pelosi is confident that superdelegates will choose between Senators Clinton or Obama — our two strong candidates — before the convention in August,” Daly said. “That choice will be based on many considerations, including respecting the decisions of millions of Americans who have voted in primaries and participated in caucuses. The Speaker believes it would do great harm to the Democratic Party if superdelegates are perceived to overturn the will of the voters. This has been her position throughout this primary season, regardless of who was ahead at any particular point in delegates or votes.”
Posted by: KayTee | March 27, 2008, 12:23 pm 12:23 pm
Jerry,
Yeah, that’s very scary what Dave said. Just what we need, replacing King George with Queen Hillary.
Nobody is suggesting that it’s not in the rules, that super delegates can move to Hillary even if Obama has more pledged delegates. Yes, of course they can. But if they want to remain true to their party’s name, they won’t go against the will of the people.
The only scenario by which I could support them doing that is if Obama completely imploded. It would have to be a scandal that makes the recent flap seem like nothing. In that case, it would be wise to them elect Hillary.
Unfortunately, I’m sure Hillary and company are doing everything in their power to make Obama unelectable. Tactics straight out of the Republican campaign handbook.
Posted by: Jill | March 27, 2008, 12:26 pm 12:26 pm
To any of the Obama MINIONS-This letter is CORRECT. Any super delegate can change his/her mind at any time up to the convention vote. And if no one is chosen on the first vote then minds can constantly change until someone is chosen. That IS the rules. Don’t believe me? Check for yourselves.

Never thought I say this but I agree with David Brooks. The Clintons have 5% chance of winning and are willing to drag the party down to preserve that chance. Think about how power mad this is before you vote for Lady MacBeth Pennsylvania, NC and the rest. These Clintons have no shame and don’t deserve your vote. They didn’t deliver health care reform when Bill was in office and then won’t next time either.

Freedom said it best…Nancy Pelosi is not following the DNC rules. If she were following the rules there would have been no need for the letter. And if she wants to open her mouth about something – why doesn’t she convince Obama to let Michigan and Florid revote. I am baffled by the silence of the media and leading dems when it comes to Obama putting the kabosh on the revote. If Clinton had done that there would have been some massive media undertaking to make the vote happen!

More often than not, actions speak louder than words. No matter what the Clinton camp say to dispel doubts about their viability in this nomination process, this type of behavor speaks volume about their collective sense of desperation. This is a blatant intimidation of a top official of this party and as such pelosi and other leading officials of the party are obliged to act accordingly. Had this been from Obama’s donors, it would have finished his candidacy already with Fox News permanently crying foul plays in the background. But, it is the Clintons who are playing dirty so I guess the establishment and the media tolerate it as ‘cute’.

What in the heck is wrong with us? We look like fools to the Republicans & nations around the world. If Hillary is her presidency will be tarnished. She’s been dishonest, divisive, & now undemocratic by saying that pledge delegates are not required to vote for a particular candidate. What is the point of voting if delegates can just cast their ballots against their constituents?
As a woman I want to like Hillary I really do but she is displaying all the qualities that I was thought not to be as a child.
As a African American I hate to tell people I like Barack better than Hillary because “other races” think I like him because he’s black. I like him better because he has more redeeming qualities than she does in my eyes.
But I do know 1 thing if he has more delegates & popular votes than Hillary & she gets the nomination, I will not vote. If my vote doesn’t matter in the primary’s then it shouldn’t matter in the general election. You can say that’s undemocratic but I’d rather not vote than vote for McCain.

All of this infighting just proves what honest political observers (not ABC,NBC,CBS OR CNN) have said for years. The Democrat Party is just as wedded to lobbyists and fat cats as the GOP, if not more so. The American People have got to get rid of this “team sport” mentality when it comes to politics. The Dems and the GOP no longer stand for anything other than getting their team elected. The Dems ran Congress for 42 years (1952-1994) and did nothing but bankrupt social security, screw up the welfare state, commit us to a 100 year occupation of Korea and start the vietnam war. In 1994 the GOP got its turn at bat, and immediately spent 12 years acting like Democrats. The Dems came back two years ago, and now we have a recession and serious economic problems while these nut-jobs run around “investigating” Alberto Gonzalez (where Congress has no jurisdiction) and playing partisan politics while America suffers. I am sick of both parties at this point, but I must admit that it is hilarious watching the Dems “historic choice” of “either the first woman or the first black candidate” blow up in their politically correct faces. Here is an idea…how about choosing the person best for America?

Clintons invited Rev Wright to white house (if he is such a hate monger, then why invite him to white house?).
Bill sent airforce and navy seals to Haiti and almost caused an all out civil war when Jimmy Carter was there getting a peace deal signed.
Bill was more interested in attacking N. Korea instead of dialogue and peaceful resolution. He didn’t care to give Carter permission to travel to N Korea for talks.
I haven’t a single instance where Hillary congradulating Obama on any of his primary wins. I have seen many instance of Obama congradulating Hillary on her wins.
Afer insulting the African American folks, it took over two months before an apology was issued by the Clinton camp. Even that came only because of primary in Mississippi was approaching. I can’t understand why people still support selfish liar Clintons.
Even Jimmy Carter said that Clintons will be your friend only when they need something from you. Carter is an old man doing charity work by building homes for the poor and delivering medicines to people in poverty and decease ridden parts deep in Africa. There is no reason for him to say anything untrue about Clinton. Even when Carter reveals the truth about Clintons, some people still refuse to take a second look the the true face of Clintons. A chronic liar is not someone I want as my president. I don’t know about the other half of Democrats who still support the Clintons.

Here in Ohio there are so many people struggling to really offer there family a sense of security by keeping their job and there houses, and have some kind of savings. Our schools are poor, not just because of lack of resources, but also because of lack of substance -kids are turned off by curriculums that don’t help them make sense of there lives. People have been patriotically spending at bestbuy only to find out too late that their massive consumerism comes at a price. They are maxed out on credit cards and refinancing and are now being told not to pay debt with there Irs checks, but go spend money.
Meanwhile so many of us have outstanding medical bills and are a paycheck away from utter despair while the government is HELPING the big companies like in the mortgage crisis with billions in help for raping citizens with unfair loans and refusing to rewrite them.
If you’ll on here want to be bitter, there is much to be bitter about. If you want to help, please return to the issues.
I voted for Obama in Ohio primary because he can both call on citizens to be responsible for bettering their lives and hold government and businesses responsible for their behavior. So he says -they all make promises.
I don’t mind people differing by voting for someone else. However, what bothers me is that we allow media to keep all of us side tracked while conditions in this country for the average worker gets progressively worse.
Posted by: cman | March 27, 2008, 1:18 pm 1:18 pm
Like I said, I don’t care about who HE is giving to.
The important numbers about Obama’s coalition to me are…
$109 average donation amount to the Obama campaign.
1.4 million, perhaps 1.8 million, (still trying to verify) individuals who have donated to Obama. That’s not donations, but individuals. I’ve donated 4 times, I’m merely one in 1.4 million.
Now that’s some power. We the people kind of power.

Does anyone still think this woman is worthy to lead the country? Let me count the ways she isn’t. 1) LYING about Bosnia, her representation of McDougal while at the Rose Law Firm, and her involvement in the firings of Travelgate (Evidently perjury runs in the family). 2) Agreeing to respect the party rules and discount Michigan and Florida- until she needed them – then reneging. 3) Standing by backers who THREATENED Pelosi and the DCCC. 4) Saying she’ll try to flip the pledged delegates. 5) Failure to produce tax returns – and if and when she does so it will only be in response to immense public pressure. McCain and Obama have released everything going back for years.
Give me someone who offers transparent leadership, uninfluenced by big donors, PACs and lobbyists, who wants to streamline government and still look out for the little guy. Give me Obama, and if not him, then McCain. You couldn’t get me to vote for HRC if you put a gun to my head.

It pretty simple–It all depends on what your definition of “is” is and what your definition of “voter” is, “vote” is, “delegate” is, “won” is, “lead” is, “will of the people” is, “entitlement” is, and so on.

I see the new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll has Hillary Clintons negatives at a career high 48%. So half the country views her negatively and somehow her supporters thinks she has a chance in a general election. Now that is some serious kool-aid drinking.

Clinton fat cats to Nancy Pelosi:
Stop telling the super-delegates to follow the will of the people and allow them to listen to the lies of the Clintons. We could not win at the polls so lets change the rules. With our money we are entitled to buy this nomination. The Democratic Party has not been in touch with the people for years. We need Obama so that the people have a say. This nomination has taught me much about the attitude of the rich in the Democratic party.
The Obama nomination means the people will be the Democratic Party.

These are the DNC rules. ( NANCY PELOSI is NOT following her own Party RULES – Something really wrong here!)
The Superdelegates know the DNC rules and they know what they are expected to do. They do not need NANCY PELOSI to tell them how they should vote, she should stay out of it.

Geevil said: “A Clinton /Obama ticket can’t be beat and I hope Obama realizes that.”
I certainly think a Clinton/Obama ticket could be pretty strong, but it’s becoming clearer and clearer that without Obama, she doesn’t fare so well. So why not just lose the losing part of the ticket, especially when he already polls so well on his own?
Whereas, based on recently released opinion polls, I doubt an Obama/Clinton ticket would help him at all. How did she manage to make such a bad negativity rating even worse?
Still, I find it funny that supporters of the 2nd place candidate try to come up with rational arguments to say why she should be 1st and the 1st place 2nd.
I remember in 200 when somebody asked Al Gore if he wished Ralph Nader would drop out of the race, he responded with a laugh and said, “Actually, I wish George Bush would!” To me, this is that same kind of wish… at least in Al Gore’s case he knew it was a joke.

It is absolutely unbelievable how the Clintons have convinced their followers that Obama is a liar, that he was the one who started the negative campaign, that Obama is a Muslim, that Obama should be held accountable for the Michigan legislature unwillingness to agree on a revote!! All you need to do is to listen to the news and read a bit of history if you were not an adult during the 90s.
How can you let a candidate think for you? Yes, Obama has a lot of shortcomings and yes more will surface about him in the next few months, but how could you possible ignore the history of the Clintons! What a state of denial!
They both have problem areas; they’re human. But just don’t deny your candidate’s shortcomings by attacking the other. At least, acknolwedge that while talking about one or another candidate unfair game, you are being much more unfair by not being balanced.
It strikes me that Clinton’s supporters are fanatics too and of the worse kind. Have you noticed how many of them write blogs all in CAPS, just to convey anger?
Thanks to the blogger who posted on the civil suit against the Clintons for campaign fraud in LA County. Not much press coverage on that one. I checked it out and he’s right. Filed in 2003 it’s still pending trial, now scheduled for April 25th.

Hillary is using every dispicable angle to try and undercut Senator Obama. Why in the world are these donors writing to Ms Pelosi with veiled but real threats? You can bet your bottom dollar they did not do this on their own, they were following Hillary and Bill’s requests (orders, actually).
Hillary, Bill, and their campaign heads want to place themselves in the White House. Believe me, Hillary’s “team” would become part of her administration. They have ALL run a horrible campaign: Infighting, loose tongues, poor money management, Bill suffers from Diarrhea of the mouth, dispicable political trash-and-burn tactics. Hillary keeps changing her persona; do Hillary’s supporters know WHICH of the MANY Hillaries for whom they are voting?? Hillary also keeps changing her stance and she has lied big time about Bosnia, AFTA, her experience, and much, much more. She thinks smaller states are unimportant and don’t matter; she thinks caucus states are undemocratic and don’t matter. She has belittled and insulted the voters from these states as NOT BEING REAL. In short, Hillary’s tactics are really hard to stomach!
Someone earlier stated Senator Obama could not take what Senator McCain may hit him with in the General Election. To that person and others of the same ilk, I say: Senator has definitely withstood the Clintons’ dirty politicking and has risen above them. We have this young senator from Illinois (David) who takes on “THE CLINTON MACHINE” (Goliath) and he brings them down several notches. I would say that is one of many good reasons to make him our President!! Senator Obama has proven himself as a man of great strength, good character, integrity, honesty, superb leadership and managerial skills (Note how smoothly his campaign has been run), a great manager of his campaign funds, definitely a wonderful uniter—it is SOLELY because of Senator Obamas great efforts and hard work that we are seeing voters going to the polls and the caucuses in such huge numbers! I would say he has already succeeded in uniting the Democrat Party!
It is sad to see his efforts and hard work in unting the party being torn apart by Hillary, Bill, and their campaign and their filthy and dishonest political tactics. Hillary and her gang are destroying the Democrat Party; they have placed THEMSELVES above the states, the voters, the party, and the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The United States got rid of Saddam, the dictator in Iraq. Now Hillary is employing the same dictator methods, treating our country and its citizens like Saddam himself treated the Iraqis. “If we cannot do it democratically, by golly, I will force myself into the Office of the Presidency, no matter how many dead and injured we leave behind!!” Very, very sad, indeed!

Politics is a dirty business. To play, you better be damn good. I remember another president that want to change washington: Jimmy Carter. I remember another president who wanted to bring hope and change to Washington: George Bush.
Barack Obama is living in a fantasty fueled by a clever marketing plan. He ripped off Hillary Clinton agenda, her platform and even “change”. That was her line when the campagin began. The story her is vendetta politics. Not the candidates. Hillary CLinton is having to pay for her husbands sins.
David Axelrod and all the other democracy party haters of Bill Clinton’s are going to see this happen. That’s the story the media is not reporting.
Axelrod and the boys, knew to beat the Clinton is was going to take another another appealing black man. Since half the democratic party is made up of blacks. Bill Clinton base was blacks.
In with the spin, the marketing, then branding of Barack Obama. One thing went wrong… the race went on to long, now people are starting to see beyond the hipe. That why Hillary Clinton is still in the race, people are having buyers remorse about Barack Obama.

To whoever said that Hillary coined the concept of “change” as her campaign motif and that Obama later copied it from her, you are mistaken. The one that came up with the “change” concept was John Edwards. When it became obvious that young voters responded, Obama followed suit and then (3rd in line) came Hillary. But it did not work for her because she is about a lot of things, but change is not one of them. Hillary has always based her campaign in “experience,” although she has very little of that too, unless you count her imaginary life in Ireland and Bosnia. In any case, it seems that not even Hillary’s $24 million donors can effect the kind of change Hillary is now looking for.

Calls for either candidate to drop out of the race are premature. There are still 10 contests coming up – millions of voters deserve to be heard. Why would the Democratic Party ever want to disenfranchise voters?
It’s possible that a faction within the DNC don’t want their boy Obama bruised and limping into Denver but isn’t the Primary season when we get the chance to kick the tires?

Navarro: First, back up what you’re saying with facts. I mean a quote from a respected media source which proves that “Obama got his start by double-crossing his female mentor.”
Second, I don’t see Obama’s fundraising as a scam and neither do over a million other Americans. I see it as a change – for the better. Grass-roots fundraising is not going away, it’s going to grow stronger, and the power and influence of the billionaires who the Clintons have conveniently befriended are going to lessen.
And there is no insult, no lies, no slander, no quote from some extreme right-wing blog that is going to convince me that the 20 millionaires and billionaires who wrote that letter were doing the right thing. They represent the Clinton campaign – everything that is wrong about the Clinton campaign. They expect something out of it – and boy, Bernard Schwartz sure did – a chance to sell missile secrets to the Chinese (NYT, 2002). They are trying to buy this election and it is wrong. What they are going to wind up with is another Republican president – and years of war. Except they won’t be hurt, will they? It’s regular people who will be hurt – and lose jobs and health care and watch their children die.

Melissa, You’re right. I donate when I can, and I sure haven’t bought anything. But I’m not Bernard Schwartz, who has been given trade access to the Chinese through a trip with Ron Brown and the Clitnon Administration, made millions, was convicted of selling missile secrets to the Chinese and had to pay a $14M fine, and the Clintons STILL accept money from him. Not everyone can be bought. That doesn’t hold true for the Clintons and their co-presidencies.

EVERYONE! Can you set aside emotion for even a few moments to find out what is true vs what is hype or even 100% false, and make your decisions on facts? Opinion is one thing, but there are dozens and dozens of out right ERRORS in these posts. If you want FACTS go to factcheck.org regarding any issues regarding either candidate. I for one want to make my decision based on REAL information.
For those who threaten to vote for McCain, make a list TODAY of all the predictable things that will happen if he were President–regarding war (Bomb Iran?), the economy (he doesn’t know much about that, he said), jobs, global warming, health care (forget any progress there). I live in Arizona; I am sitting in my office right now, one block away from McCain’s office. While I respect his POW experience, he is a HOTHEAD. There is video footage of him getting into a FIGHT on the Senate floor. Did you see the clip of him losing his temper and getting into the face of a woman reporter who was simply asking him a question he avoided answering? She was speaking in a very calm, measured voice, but she was persistent.
MAKE THE LIST TODAY OF WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT WITH A MCCAIN PRESIDENCY, and set it aside, pull it out in November. Ask yourself then, “Do I want responsibility for voting this person into office?” A man who will keep us at war (do you have draft-age sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, friends?) I DO, and I don’t want to lose my loved ones in a war over greed and oil. What about your friends and relatives who have suffered without healthcare or poor coverage, what about your friends, neighbors, and family members who have lost their jobs; and don’t forget that McCain has flip flopped his position on torture? When he came out against torture and water-boarding just weeks ago, I called his office and thanked him. My Dad was a Japanese POW and was tortured in WWII. NOW McCain says TORTURE IS OK.
CALM DOWN, THINK, BE RESPONSIBLE. WE CAN’T CONTROL THE FOOLISH REMARKS OF THE CANDIDATES, BUT YOU CAN CONTROL YOURSELF AND BECOME A VOICE OF REASON. WHEN YOU SPEW VENOM, YOU REPRESENT THE CANDIDATE YOU ARE CHAMPIONING.
