Obama: ‘Clinton Can Run as Long as She Wants’

ABC News’ David Wright, Sunlen Miller and Alyssa Litoff report: On day two of his six-day bus tour throughout Pennsylvania, Sen. Barack Obama said he does not completely agree to Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy’s assertion that Sen. Hillary Clinton should get out of the race.

Responding to reporters’ questions in Johnstown, Obama said the calls for her to withdraw are still premature in his eyes.

"I hadn’t talked to Pat about it," Obama said. "My attitude is that Sen. Clinton can run as long as she wants. Her name is on the ballot … she should be able to compete and her supporters should be able to support her for as long as they are willing or able."

Obama did hint to a time frame, saying he thinks a nominee should be chosen as quickly as possible after the contests wrap up in June so that person can start preparing for the general election.

"Some time in early June that at that point there are no more contests and I think it is important to pivot as quickly as possible, for the super delegates or others to make a decision as quickly as possible so that we can settle on a nominee and give that nominee some time before the convention to select a vice president or presidential nominee to start thinking about how the convention should be conducted," he said.

In addition to the need for general election prep, Obama added that after the June primaries there will not be any further information to be had.

"We will have had contests in all 50 states plus several territories," he said. "We will have tallied up the pledge delegate vote. We will have tallied up the popular vote, we will have tallied up how many states that were won by who. And then at that point I think people should have more than enough information to make a decision."

Obama said that he also does not agree completely with the idea that the Democratic Party will be hurt by the length of this nomination process.

"I think that the notion that the party has been divided by this contest is somewhat overstated. There’s no doubt that among some of my supporters or some of her supporters there’s probably been some irritation created, but I also think that in every contest you’ve seen in every state huge jumps in Democratic registration, including independents and Republicans who are changing registration to vote in the Democratic primaries," Obama said. "Those are people who are now invested in what happens. I think that bodes very well for us in November. I think the party is going to come together."

Recent polls that found large percentages of Citon and Obama supporters said they would either vote for Sen. John McCain or sit the election out if their candidate is not the Democratic nominee. But Obama said that he’s sure Clinton’s supporters will be able to support him over McCain in the end, and vice versa for his supporters if Clinton were the nominee.

"You can’t tell me that some of my supporters are going to say, ‘well, we’d rather have the guy who may want to stay in Iraq for a hundred years because we are mad that Sen. Clinton ran a negative ad against Sen. Obama," he said. "I think the converse is true as well. I think Senator Clinton’s supporters will ultimately look at a comparison and say we think an Obama administration will be very different from a McCain administration."

Obama admitted earlier in a town hall that his road in Pennsylvania will be a hard one. He called himself the "underdog" in the state, where polls have consistently found Clinton to be ahead in the polls.

The campaign, launching the six-day bus tour across the state from west to east is an attempt to introduce Obama to voters –- with smaller town halls and events planned aiming at some voting blocks Obama has struggled with, such as white blue collar voters.

Obama said that he didn’t think it was naturally a difficult state for him but rather blamed it on Clinton’s name notoriety and institutional endorsements such as that of Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell.

"I’m not as well known as Sen. Clinton is in this state, which is reflected in the polls, and she’s got a popular Democratic governor who gave her a good head start, and provided her with some institutional support," Obama said.

On the other hand, Obama admitted his recent endorsement by the state’s Sen. Bob Casey Jr. helps in Pennsylvania but he still downplayed expectations.

"We may not be able to win, but I think we’ve got a good chance and we’re going to work as hard as we can," he said.

This morning Obama and Casey hit the basketball courts before a full day of campaigning, shooting hoops at a local high school.

"You were boxing out, which is what we need," Obama said to Casey, insinuating that they will need a good defensive effort off the court as well.

What a double-talker and what a patronizer. His people have been calling for weeks for the superdelegates to decide and end this race. “As long as her supporters are willing or able…” What a crock of baloney! With so many primaries still to be run, he thinks he has it in the bag, even though there is no way he will have the required pledged delegates to be the automatic nominee. Is the glass half empty or half full?
He said: “We will have had contests in all 50 states plus several territories…” Who is he kidding? Thanks to him, the voters of Michigan and Florida do not count. He could have remedied that. What is he afraid of? Did Leahy infuriate too many Democrats, so now he is walking on eggshells? It won’t do him any good come November. Pennsylvanians can show him what their votes mean to them. Vote for Hillary.
With this race so close, I am more than disgusted with him and with some of the Democratic Party elders like Leahy. One of the reasons that Hillary Clinton has almost equal votes is that too many in the Party do not agree with Kennedy and Kerry? What were they thinking? What audacity, indeed!

He sounds like John McCain. Like I said yesterday, Hillary is the new Huckabee.
And we all know what happened to Huckabee.

Well looks like he and Leahy have had a change of heart! Yesterday Obama said “you know this contest has been like a movie that has gone on a hour too long! Now he agrees with Hillary that she likes long movies! The real reason is the backlash that he is getting in PA, the people are outraged that they are trying to push her out so he now is singing a new tune. It may have somethin to do with the crowd of 25,000 people that Bill Clinton drew in PA today, they lined up 10 people deep just to shake his hand! Well at least he changed his mind maybe thats what he calls change we can beleive in!

It doesn’t matter what Obama says, HRC will not drop out until the DNC drops dead. Right now Bill and Hillary are working for McCain. I think is a good thing for the Country because when the DNC has been wipped out at the presidentail level by the GOP and the Clintons we would have less problem with presidential politics.
With one party- GOP, all we need to do is to adjust our lives to one way – the right; instead of leaning left then right from presidential elections to elections. This is the silver lining in the cloud of the downward movement of the Clintons’ DNC!

Did he have that stupid smirk on his face when he said it? He’s just trying to deflect the fact that Rev. Wright will just not go away.

Posted by: Wendy | March 29, 2008, 6:38 pm 6:38 pm

For once I agree with BHO, even though he probably meant the comment to be sarcastic. Why should Hillary Clinton quit? Pennsylvania’s primary is still three weeks away, and Hillary will probably win it. Montana’s primary isn’t until June, but she’s almost a sure bet in Montana. Hillary should keep fighting all the way to (and including) the convention. She is our country’s last hope for a sensible future.

Posted by: Rhys | March 29, 2008, 6:41 pm 6:41 pm

Yea, and despite Rev. Wright,
Obama is leading in the polls
Gallup: 7 point lead
Ras…: 6 point lead
Pew: 10 point lead
This must really worry Hillary if the Rev. Wright “will just not go away”

Wait one cotton pickin minute. Obama must have been smoked out again, that’s the only time he talks change. The good ole boys must have got together to come up with that one and decided he should throw Leahy under the bus this time.

I agree. Hillary Clinton is still a formidable candidate. Plus I’m reminded of Mike Huckabee’s position. Huckabee wanted to stay in the race so that voters have a choice of whom they want to support before a candidate wins the party nomination.

Posted by: eric | March 29, 2008, 6:51 pm 6:51 pm

This one is to senator Leahy: Someone has to remind Senator Leahy that neither candidate has the needed number of delegates. Let all people in a free democracy have their vote! This is not Russia, and not my native country Bulgaria, where people didn’t have a choice, and a say, in a democratic election. If the party that I chose when I first arrived in the U.S. forces Senator Clinton to quit, three members of our family are not going to vote in November. We want democratic election in Pakistan and Iraq, and here in the U.S. anything but undemocratic is promoted by democratic elitists.
e is to Senator Leahy:

Posted by: Jeff | March 29, 2008, 6:59 pm 6:59 pm

That is the most intelligent path obama has taken, lately. What is happening is that: He has come to the realization he can’t win the general election and needs Hillary. The sight of 30% of her backers walking leaves him dead in the water and the republicans get 4 more years. He had better work on leveling the playing field. Better for him to be Vice President and President 8 years from now. That is his best scenario, though the pundits are blind and the media can’t see it because they have such ego they can’t believe they are wrong.

Posted by: Beau | March 29, 2008, 7:00 pm 7:00 pm

At some point, this will stop being about race and voters will FINALLY notice BHO’s politics. His cult followers, for the most part, have no clue how far left he is. Obama talks like a moderate, but his voting record says otherwise. We need to get away from the mess Bush has made, but we DON’T need an extreme leftist just because we’re getting rid of a right-wing theocrat. Hillary is a moderate, and that’s what we need.

The GOP will be HURTING in the next elections!!!!
The GOP/Republican tools on these forums wouldn’t dare talk about Republicans and their failed policies. Instead they help themselves feel better about blind support for the Republicans, by attacking Democrats trying to fan the flames of dissent within the DNC.
Well now I know, a vote for a Republican is literally a vote for ignorance, and misguided spending in an unnecessary war in Iraq, which causes more hate……..
Democrats ROCK!!!!!!!!!!
Obama is an amazing speaker! I have never heard any politician speak so candidly and clearly about so many topics, much less the state of racism in America. I’d love to see a Republican address this subject in such a direct and intelligent way.
MAJOR APLAUSE FOR BARRAK OBAMA!!
I’m proud to be a part of such a historic election. We can have our first woman or African-American President!!! This country has some healing to do and Republicans just GET IN THE WAY.
This election will be historic, and it’s not about Hillary versus Obama, it’s about Democrat versus Republican.
Hillary or Obama, or both. Go Democrats!

What a classy presidential statement by one of the greatest statesman of our times. If there is one person who can unite the party and keep his unruly, untruthful opponent in the party some respect, it is Barack Obama. I am pleased to report that the primaries continuing will give some states that have still not voted a chance and the state head quarters office of Obama was opened today. The enthusiasm for electing Obama from all people from all ages, all colors and all backgrounds was simply astounding. There was no coffee and the latte crowd was still happy to be there. Too bad my state does not allow independents to vote in a Dem primary. I am not a happy camper but those are the rules and I am not whining about being not allowed to vote as some from certain states who were victims of their state’s party leaders.

Posted by: gjkotw01 | March 29, 2008, 7:16 pm 7:16 pm

Interesting for the Democratic Party to note some democrats have a brain. Those are the ones who will vote McCain or not vote at all if the party chooses Obama. And the most important poll is the one that shows that about 30% of Hillary’s supporters will not vote for Obama if he is the candidate.

Posted by: Common Sense | March 29, 2008, 7:16 pm 7:16 pm

It is really sad how vicious comments about Obama are. If these Hillary supporters leaving these comments are truly Democrats, please think before you speak so derisively about Obama, he is a fellow Democrat and an emminently qualified candidate. (Have you taken the time to read his bills in the Congressional Record? Or have you read either of his books to learn the excellent caliber of person he is? Or do you make your judgements on sound bytes?) And if these commentors are actually Republicans trying to make it seem like many Dems hate Obama, shame on you. Winning by any means is not the democratic way. If you think your Republican candidate can’t win by campaigning on his strengths and ideas, then maybe he doesn’t deserve the job. Let’s keep it clean if only so as the world watches and reads about our election they don’t think we take our right to elect our leader democratically a joke. We can’t push the idea that democracy is the best if we aren’t willing to take it seriously at home.
And on the subject of this story, Obama is only saying that Hillary can run as long as she wants. He isn’t saying she should. I think he is right that it won’t hurt the party. And I agree when it comes election time if it is Obama vs. McCain, any Hillary fan isn’t going to choose the totally Republican ideals McCain is touting over the very Democratic plans Obama has for running the country.

Thank You Obama! We’re all tired of the bashing and insults. It’s time to LET THE DEAD BURY THE DEAD! If the rest want to stay in the graveyard of bashing, then let them stay. Both you and Hillary are better than that. Rise above it! You’re both true Americans. Even with all the bashers, you’re both still an honorable people. Don’t sink to lowly swiftboating levels of the Republican party, an obviously corrupt and rogue bunch! You and Hillary still have a chance to get back on track. Stop allowing others to convince you to insult one another. This has been a slick dividing stunt with the Republican parties and their cronies. True Democrats are embarrassed to see our own slinking and sinking to such low and debauchery behaviours.

Posted by: Bishop | March 29, 2008, 7:23 pm 7:23 pm

Apostasy!! Is being a Republican lost all meaning? Its construct was simplified into talking points which eventually became meaningless. The polarization of our nation began peaking during when Karl Rove was in power. He was able to frame Democrats so simplistically it rang with the base they had formed. It still rings today………..the rhetoric is outrageous!!!!
One reason I like Obama so much is that he sets a different tone…….and he is a Democrat. My own values fall well within the construct of the Democratic Party.
Our problems aren’t just “liberal”, they are capitalist and diplomatic, and infrastructure and war and death and terrorists…………..remember……this country is made of Americans, made of people and ideas of all kinds……………..over a vast land.
““God bless America.” This phrase is used correctly when it conjures an image of God helping people cope with the great losses they have incurred, when it pulls members of the nation together to help and serve one another, and when it asks for the healing of our brokenness that only God can offer. This phrase is used incorrectly when it implies that God should bless our nation at the expense of others, that the United States should enjoy special privilege in the sight of God, or that the lives of Americans are inherently more valuable than the lives of any other people in the world.”

Posted by: getcentered | March 29, 2008, 7:24 pm 7:24 pm

I still believe that all of the states should have their say in who represents either party in the up coming election. Too many years we have heard that you only need two states to win an election, Ohio and Florida. I am glad both Clinton and Obama agree.
If this was the policy-based contest of mutual respect we witnessed in February than we would all say let’s keep it up until the convention. Let every state make their decision and learn all we can about the candidates and their plans for this country. Unfortunate the campaign has become far too personal and turned away from anything remotely constructive for any of the candidates, their parties, or the voters. Frankly comments like these are exactly why people are suggesting that this campaign should end. It is no longer about supporting your candidate as it should be. It is more like people are watching a stock car race hoping someone will hit the wall.
I think is more important that we pull this country together a get on with the job of fixing the things that desperately need fixing. Frankly knowing whom exaggerated their background or what someone’s pastor said would not matter at 3:00 AM for any candidate.

People relax. You are getting overwrought. Hillary and her sniper incident. Obama and the not so reverend Wright. You are missing the big picture. The big picture is the implosion of the Republican Party. Republicans like a bunch of lemmings that are following George W. Bush over the cliff of Iraq. They have earned it. They deserve it. And in November they are going to get it. Sorry, McCain
The GOP truly is the grand-OLD party. Full of old and out of date ideas, most of which have already proven to fail…….
“Couple that with 8 years of failure by conservatives and you have a cocktail for a beatdown. How is John McCain going to inspire the voter turnout for his party? His great speeches? Conservative talk radio? His flip-flop talk express bus overstuffed with Lobbyists? We all love to engage in punditry but the facts are the facts. Repubs do not have the votes to win. Outside of a total collapse (And I mean TOTAL colapse, not merely a split of the electorate)the Dem party they can offer up a broccoli f-art in a jar and still gain the White House. What planet are you conservatives living on?”
Since when were Americans so afraid of competition? ………tell you what…….
I would rather have a “inexperienced” Democrat wasting a billion on helping the poor or disabled or uneducated, than have a neo-con Republican blow a billion on killing tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi and thousands of US service men and women.
In the last 8 years or so Republicans have shown me that they will do anything and everything in their power to keep you from retaining an opinion based on the facts that their incompetence is comprised of.

For those that still think Liberal is a dirty word–I say that under Bush/Cheney we have gone so far right that to be liberal now is to be a moderate–7 years of where science is has been treated like science fiction–where those who could have been treated with cutting edge stem cell research have been doomed to slow death–where the Supreme Court spits on the constitution along with our president–If being a liberal means that you will hear more than one side of an issue; allow people of differing views to have voice; DEFEND the constitution–then Hell yes, I am a liberal and hope to elect one in November–After 7 years of Bush, common sense is now considered liberal.

There is NO way she can overcome the delegate/raw vote deficit so she has decided to bring down the party and stir her voters support to John McCain. You tell me if that serves the interest of the Democrat party. Hilliary was a “Goldwater girl” in the 60′s. And every action she has taken has been to increase the power of the state, over the individual, with her coup de grace to be this madated (as in garnish your wages to pay for less than you get now) health care plan. If that is what the Democrat party wants to hang it’s hat on; An explosion of government authority over what you can do for your own personal health choices (HMO’s on steroids) then go ahead. Bankrupt the country. After all we can pay for three major wars with an overburdened and breaking down military. With soldiers on their 3rd and 4th tours without a break. We can pay to bomb and rebuild overseas. We can spend all kinds of money in places other than the US. And we can print up even more money causing inflation and making food, energy and things like water unaffordable, while our borders are merged allowing anybody to come in and qualify for benefits without having to pay into the system; and depleting our resources like critical care with unfunded prescription drug coverage subsidies and benefits to lawbreakers. Why not. It’s not like there’s a finite limit to what we can do, as long as we take money from people, and spend it without their imput or will at hand. Big government is the answer to all our problems, until they can’t print more money and the value of your wealth and property evaporate overnight and crime will explode. Then you will see the effect of what this outsourcing of our economy, where we produce nothing while exporting debt with a falling dollar is a recipe of destruction. Emulating the fall of Russia on a more massive scale, is NOT sound economic policy. And not one canidate left is willing to address or even change that. As long as that is the case, nothing will improve. No matter who gets in. Hence, your vote DOES NOT MATTER.

Never mind June, this should go to the convention.
Whatever about who voted when, they simply cannot leave Florida & Michigan – 2 of the the biggest and most important states – out of the nomination process. Especially one this close. That simply cannot happen.
Once they count Florida, Michigan & the Superdelegates, whoever’s in front should be the nominee and should this happen, I will vote for whoever that person is.
However, if Obama gets it without Florida & Michigan being counted I will vote for McCain on principle.

On 02/03/2008, Super Bowl XLII was held between New England Patriots and New
York Giants who was the underdog. It was full of dramas and the climax
came at the last moment.
After a touch down with 2:42 left, Patriots’ fans started to celebrate their
win with 14:10. The math was clearly not on the Giants’ side. Should they
quit?
If Giants stopped trying, there would not have been their touch down with 1:
15 remaining. There would not have been their sweetest championship.
Should Hillary quit?

As the polls indicate, a lot of Clinton supporters tend to be immature. Like Hillary Clinton who wants to throw a Tonya Harding fit and throw all her toys out of the pram, they’ll just have to get over it. They are behaving like spoiled children threatening not to love their parents if they don’t get their way, and we shouldn’t pay too much attention to their threats. Once Hillary is out the race, they will find that they have nothing to threaten with. However when their tears have cleared and they consider the cold reality of another four years under the republicans, they will forget about their idle threats. If they love their country, they’ll come around and join the new wave, and back the change for a better government.

Vanessa, how are those polls showing McCain beating both of them?
Rev. Wright, stick around. We’re not finished with you yet, not by a long shot. ;-)

Well, those that say they will vote for McCain just because their candidate won’t win are the fools. I certainly have NO DELUSION whatsoever that I’ll vote for McCain if Hillary gets the nomination, which she won’t. I will just hold my nose really tight and shut my eyes and pull the lever for the lying bat.

I sensed no hint of disrespect or attitude. He realizes that this race is far from over. Sure it would be nice if it was but really come on folks.

What a great leadership, that is the right answer to Hill’s concerns, she can run as long as she wants, that is democracy and Obama has lot of respect for that process. Pen for Obama. God bless America and God bless Obama. OBAMA08.

Oh Brother…LIKE OBAMA THINKS HE PLAYS THE ROLL OF GIVING CLINTON PERMISSION TO CONTINUE IN THE RACE!!!
Typical gutter tactic…Prace out your supporters…call for Clinton to quit…hoping the MEDIA and voters will buy into your line that she can’t win.
Well…Clinton is a FIGHTER and there are 10 Primaries left to go…so Obama…you might want to hold off thinking you are the President.

Obama has class. He knows that Hill & Bill are ot going away. He figures this process is a marathon not a sprint race.
If both can accept the results without back room dealing by superpols, who knows, we may have a dream team after all.

Jim, I think you are right. I’m from PA and I can already see the excitement over Obama. I also think that the Bob Casey endorsement was HUGE. In another week the polls will show that it is too close to call.
Also, the sniper-fire comment is really hurting Clinton. This was not only a lie, it was a BAD lie and insulting to the troops that are in harms way everyday. Even if it were true was it supposed to make me want to vote for her because she ran to her car with her head covered, I don’t get it. Hillary can still have a good career as senator of NY. Obama 2008 will be GREAT!.

Posted by: pt | March 29, 2008, 8:04 pm 8:04 pm

Obama said always always respect Hillary and never gets in return, he always say good thing about her and never get that inreturn.. what is funny about these comments in here is that People who hate Obama will always hate him no matter what lol i find that very funny.. Obama said something good and they have to find some excuse to bash him now they call him “flipflop” mmmm
Look people Hillary has to win 70 or 60% the remaining contests, that is 95% unlikely! i know some of you racist idiots will vote for Mccain becouse he is white no matter his policy so be it you will have another 4years of bush

Obama is right, he and hillary agree on the majority of issues and its the small number of differences which separates them. Yet still people say if their candidate doesn’t get the nod they’ll vote for McCain. Sell-outs!
Voting for McCain means that you support the following:
1.Staying in Iraq for and indefinate amount of time.
2.Continuing giving tax breaks to the wealthiest.
3.Having a nominee that admits he knows very little about economic policy.

All the polls you have been quoting what do they really mean. Are these the same polls that said that Hillary would lose in California,New Jersey,Texas,Ohio, and the mother of all polls the ones that said that she would lose New Hampshire by eight points, even the exit polling was wrong. My point is that polls are snapshots of time and may not tell the whole story.
Take the poll that NBC did this week. By their own admission they oversampled African Americans, thus this is not a truly random scientific poll and any time you overpoll one group the poll will be biased. When I was in college my professor called this Grabage in Garbage out!

Its time for clinton to bow out. Obama should be getting ready for the General Election. Clinton can not win, unless she finds a way to cheat. Or, because she won a few big states she can drag this out. But, she is losing everywhere else.
She needs to go back to corporate law. She is not telling the truth about NAFTA or anything else.

Sorry, but that just sounds like a desperate plea for attention – like a 5-year old having a temper tantrum. MY way or I’ll run away from home!
This barrage of indignant posts taking umbrage at a simple opinion is telling. Though I’m tempted to place the blame for this squarely at the feet of your mistress and her toxic advisors – They’re primarily to blame for your slow poisoning, from all the vitriol seeping out of the Clinton campaign HQ.
For the few – guaranteed a LOT fewer than 30% – that might indeed go down the McCain path, go ahead. You’ll likely be the biggest losers in prolonging this trillion dollar war and disastrously anti-American economic policies. A people get a government they deserve – and deserve it you will.

Oh, thank you, Oprahma; as if she needed your permission and/or blessing for her to continue her campaign. Arrogance is one thing, irritating arrogance is another, and ingratiating arrogance is quite another. You qualify for all three and win the big prize; ‘overrated and underworked Presidential hopeful’ of the year. There are no real ‘candidates’ in either party; this country is in dire straights and hard up for a real, live, qualified candidate. I see this country more racially divided since this Democratic debate has unfolded; neither Clinton nor Oprahma are without blame. “Change we can believe in”, eh? On what planet would that be?

To those 30% or so of Hillary supporters who claim they would NEVER vote for Obama…Why? Their policies overlap by something like 95%. And you´d rather have a McBush in the White House? So sad.

To “fletch” on this post — we dont need obama’s opinion on whether hillary should run or not…OKAY!!! She has the fundamental right to stay in as long as she wants. He is not going to get 2024 without superdelegates and so none of u Obama supporters — better say anything.
To “9jkotwo7″…before u wax eloquence on ur Nobama — recall that he said yesterday that this primary was a extra long movie. He has no business or the right to approve or disapprove any candidate’s decision to run or not.He is yet to secure the requisite delegates and so he should focus on doing well in the next 10 primaries!!
He has more elected delegates and i congratulate him…and he seems to inspire a lot of folks who r frustrated with the current government. But so are Hillary’s supporters and we want change as well –but through Hillary!! It is not as if he has a 300 delegate or a 400 delegate lead, okay!!!
He claims he can unite the country better than her — well let him earn his nomination 100% and then he can try to unite Hillary supporters behind him! All u bloggers who favour him — my advise is to tone down your negative rhetoric about hillary if u want any chance at him getting our support.
I live in michigan and all of u say that the party leaders here messed up and the rules cannot be changed? But u are not even willing to have a revote..? Why — because u run the risk of losing in popular vote eventually!!!
He is not willing to find out if we michiganders want him or hillary as the nominee and yet he will have the gall to come here later on in Fall season to seek a victory? You may seat the delegates 50% to each candidateNOW….but dont expect the voters who ultimately decide in November to just give in meekly to the leadership flaws of Michigan!
SO AGAIN…ALL U OBAMA SUPPORTERS — BETTER TONE DOWN UR RHETORIC ON ALL BLOGS IF U HOPE TO GET OUR VOTES. TRUST ME…I AM NOT ALONE ON THIS.

Posted by: sam | March 29, 2008, 9:01 pm 9:01 pm

If Obama is the nominated candidate the Democratic Party will implode. Clinton’s supporters know and understand very clearly that he espouses no galvanazing political idea. He is unable to say what he means by “change” or “hope” or “the future.” And he has failed to say and his actions clearly demonstrate that he is not a “unifier.” By the evidence of his slight political record (130 “present” votes in the IL state legislature, little achievement in the U.S. Senate) Barack Obama stacks up as something of a mediocrity. And when you read the posts of his followers, you understand that they know no reasoning but follow the path of him as well as Rev. Wrigth of hate and insults. That is why the Democratic Party will loose the elections if he is the candidate.

He knows the majority of the Democrats in this country want Hillary.
He also knows that the ploy to get all the High power dems to speak out trying to get her to drop out, was a bad mistake on his part.
His new ploy to act gracious is not going to work either.
He is no more than a speech. He has nothing to offer America.
A vote for America is a vote against Obama.

Posted by: seah | March 29, 2008, 9:04 pm 9:04 pm

I have a question for the Hillary supporters who say they will never vote for Obama. I know you are passionate about Hillary. But if you are true dems how could you give up the Supreme Court. You would rather have 20 plus years of a conservative Supreme Court than 4 years of Obama. Think of what that would mean….no stem cell research, which really can’t wait, Roe vs Wade would be overturned, etc. This is my #1 priority for voting for a dem no matter who it is. I am just having a hard time understanding this.

This contest is over. Clinton’s just playing out the string now. No amount of spin, voodoo delegate math or “Big State” strategy can change that.

Bush said that the current fight in Iraq at Basra is a defining moment, the next day officials say that the Basra fight is not going well and threatens to end the 7 month cease fire in Iraq by Mahdi Army. If that cease fire ends the violence will increase and everyone who said the surge worked will by scratching their heads and people will be sending a clear message this fall that they want an end to this war. The only way McCain gets the nod is if there are remarkable improvements in Iraq from now to november.

Obama does not speak for himself – he speaks for Kennedy, Kerry, Dean, Pelosi and Reid. All these dems are expecting big payback once their Golden Boy wins the nomination and ultimately the presidency. That’s why you won’t see Hillary supporters voting for Obama, we know Hillary will stand up to these idiots that are destroying the Democratic party. As for saying that Hillary can stay in the race after Leahy’s Big Press Conference covered live on big donor networks CNN and MSNBC, does Obama really think we are that stupid? Obama didn’t know Leahy was going to give a big press conference and demand Hillary to get out? Why won’t this girl listen to the big boys? The nerve of her!

You can only give permission to someone if they are asking you for it, and I don’t think Hillary is asking Obama for anything at the moment.

Posted by: pt | March 29, 2008, 9:22 pm 9:22 pm

russell, you seem to read and digest the news the same way I do. Yesterday, the movie was too long for him; today, she can “run as long as she wants” and her followers “should be able to support her as long as they are willing or able.” That sounds like a little step back from yesterday to me. But, you know what, I still detect that egocentric put down. He does not get it. He says he did not talk to Pat (Leahy) about it. I believe that as much as I believe that he and Bill Richardson were not in cahoots and planning for weeks before his endorsement. His entire northeastern gang of senator buddies seem to be trying a full assault to get Hillary out before the primaries are finished. What are they afraid of at this point? That Obama is not strong enough of a candidate to compete against McCain? They should have thought of that from the beginning.
They want to blame Hillary for damaging the Party’s chances? She is the one with poise and dignity. They really should know that strong Democrats make up their own minds. I have been in the Party too long to be treated like all of a sudden I am not concerned about the success of the Party. At what costs?
Hillary did not create Reverend Wright’s hate speech; he is not her mentor or spiritual advisor. Hillary did not create Rezko; the newspapers and media already knew a lot. It only became relevant for debate after Obama tried to slander Hillary for once being on the board for Walmart in Arkansas. Even crazier, Michelle just dropped off her connection with Walmart. Hillary did not give a noted speech that Obama gave as his own when another public figure had already given it. Obama got caught in double talk about NAFTA with Canada. The Obama camp has played the race card at every opportunity to ignite their base; now, he says the country needs to have a conversation about race?
What a double-talker!

At least Hillary is a fighter. Kerry collapsed like a wet noodle in 2004, and Obama just doesn’t have the courage that the country needs right now. He wasn’t even able to stand up to his pastor. He just went with the flow.

I’m struck by the “end-game” positions of the two camps.
Hillary’s supporters say “We’ll vote McCain if we feel the process is unfair”
Obama supporters call up visions of riots, burnings, uprisings.
Hmmmm, who’s stuck in the 1960′s? and who as the recognized underdog made the heartfelt call to rally her supporters that whatever happened, we would support the eventual democratic nominee? Hillary Clinton. Well guess what, we love you Hillary, we support you fiercely, but we need to make sure that the DNC never again attempts to sideline a viable, worthy candidate again. So, on this, we respectfully reserve the right to follow our own course if the worst happens.

Regarding Hillary’s Bosnia-trip embellishment (which some keep bringing up): This type of “resume-padding” is quite common among politicians running for office and various presidential candidates have done it to various degrees in the past. These instances are usually overlooked or barely covered by the media unless the “embellishment” is serious or the press wants to sensationalize something because it makes a good story. The Hillary-Bosnia story was brought to the press by the Obama campaign, along with the videos that made it a “juicy” story. The media lapped it up and made a big deal of it. But what they haven’t made a big deal about is all the times Obama has done this kind of thing and his history of lies and embellishments. Here are just some of the “embellishments” and untrue things he has said: 1) His parents met at the Selma march (in fact, he was born 4 years before Selma). 2) He was fluent in Indonesian as a child (his teacher has said he was not). 3) He was involved in a campaign against Asbestos in public housing. 4) At age 9 he had a “racial awakening” when he read an article in Ebony magazine which he described in detail (there was no such article). 5) He has exaggerated his role in immigration reform and housing policy and community organizing 6) He claims credit for passing nuclear leak legislation that never got out of committee. 7) He claims to have been a Constitutional Law Professor (the proper title is “Senior Lecturer”). 8) He said lobbyists won’t work in his White House and later contradicted himself 9) He originally said he didn’t have knowledge of Rezko’s wrongdoing and not much of a relationship with him and that Rezko didn’t raise much money for him. All lies, and Obama keeps increasing the amount he says Rezko contributed. 10) He said he didn’t get contribution from oil companies (he did) 11) Obama has contradicted himself a few times about his knowledge of Rev. Wright’s troubling views. 12) In Obama’s books he has exaggerated, embellished (or invented) stories of his life to “pump himself up” (etc)… for example, this account (by an Obama supporter!) on one of his past jobs: http://www.analyzethis.net/blog/2005/07/09/barack-obama-embellishes-his-resume/ … There are even more instances of embellishments, exaggerations and outright lies from Obama. Yes, Hillary may have embellished the Bosnia story, but what she described is what they told her to prepare for… and at least she was there and was willing to face a dangerous situation… and she has been to about 80 countries… and met all kinds of challenges!!! Let’s focus on her long record of accomplishments and her great proposals for our nation!

Here I thought Clinton got to decide all on her own whether or not she stays in the race. I had no idea she had to ask permission of Obama. He seems to think that he gets to speak for everyone: Florida, Michigan, all the states that haven’t voted, and now Clinton herself.
I could give a crap about abortion versus my right to choose my own candidate and vote for her. Do you really think a bunch of men care about your reproductive rights? Do you think if men choose your candidate that they will make sure they always choose one who supports abortion? Your right to vote is your protection of your viewpoint.

Several posts I’ve followed mention how Obama has mis-stated and exaggerated his accomplishments. Find the N.Y. Times article from 1990 or 1991 following his electon as editor of the Harvard Law Review. As a 28 year old man – certainly qualifies him as an adult – he lied about his father’s position. He told the interviewer that his dad had been the “Finance Minister of Kenya”. He wasn’t. He also claimed that his mother was an anthropologist. If she was, where’s her research? The point is: who was he trying to impress back then. Was he so uncomfortable in his own skin that he had to invent a background. It is troubling that the little we know about Obama’s family is what he wants us to know. – and that he lied about his background when it couldn’t possibly make any difference.

I am not all that much into waffler’s. Just a few days ago we were watching a movie that had run too long according to BO. All his surrogates were telling her she didn’t have the math. Now he is backing off? Hmm. He is so arrogant and condescending – He is saying what is politically expedient for him at this time because he is a ……
P O L I T I C I A N. Nothing new here. He is what he claims not to be. Looking forward to the upcoming debates so the he can un, ur, uh…defer to Clinton and agree with all her points. His Rev. Wright, REZCO, and NAFTA fiasco’s have mortally wounded him for the general election, and that incidentally has not even been revealed completely.

Pennsylvania is really not a race between Clinton and Obama; it is a race about whether the battle will go on and on, or we put an end to this in Pennsylvania. The state cannot make Clinton the nominee. Even if Clinton wins, as expected, it will only mean that the contest goes on the North Carolina and Indiana. On the other hand, if Obama pulls an upset, that will end the race. I know the Hillaryites and Obama-haters will never vote for Obama, but most democratic voters, including most leaning to Clinton, would be satisfied with either candidate in November. Those who feel that way, but are leaning to Hillary, need to ask themselves: Do you want this damaging, knock-down, drag-out fight to continue, or do you really want to decide this in Pennsylvania and vote for Obama to end the contest on April 22?

Thanks for Sen. Leahy the Hillary supporters were never as motivated before than now because of his undemocratic call for Hillary. The right time for Hillary’s momentum has come now in PA in Indiana and soon it will spread through the reamining States primary. what you sow you reap. Leahy unknowingly threatened the White populace of losing their last hope for this election, so every household in PA is now campaigning for Hillary. They do it with fire in their heart and with good cause. Make another announcememtn Obama so the spark that is now forming will become a momentum of fire.

I have faith in PA. It was smart enough not to go for bush/cheney back in 2004 and PA will be smart enough to know that this country really needs a good leader like Obama. He can begin to repair the damage this administration has caused over the last 7.5 years. Obama 2008!!!

Karela: you have it wrong – Nancy Pelosi threatened Hillary, hence the letter from her supporters. The Obama has been trashing and bad mouthing the only 2 term democratic president in the last forty years, and the first lady, and Obama and his supporters think he should get away with it. The Speaker of the House should know better, but she is part of the idiot makeup of the DNC, and they don’t know better. They would rather disenfranchise and turn off lifelong democrats than look at the reality of having a dirty Chicago politician as their Golden Boy. Obama won’t fly in the general election – he’s already lost FL and MI. And he has no chance in many of the other big states. Time to stop drinking the kool aid Obama supporters.

He can have all the red states like NC but the one’s that count are the blue states. I can wait until her victory speech. She’s going to make the case that hey, this guy can’t win the big blue states we have to have. He can’t beat McCain in Pennsylvania. If he’s the nominee, how do you make up an electoral loss like PA ?

People should check out the declining fortunes of Deval Patrick, Obama’s stalking horse, and the governor of Massachusetts. He too shared Obama’s guru, David Axelrod, and remember they shared the same message of “hope” “change” and “yes, we can”.. Like Obama, he seemingly came out of nowhere, blew the competition out of the water and won the governorship by wide margins. Yet, as governor, he’s been a major disappointment. He staked his first year in office on a questionable economic plan of casino gambling (yuck!). He couldn’t even rally support from Democrats – much less obraining support from “across the aisle”. When push came to shove, he sought the assistance of one of our Congressmen, Mike Capuano who attempted to conciliate between the two camps – the legislature and the Governor. Imagine how he felt when after working for hours to pull together a compromise, he walked back to the Governor’s office and found it darkened. Patrick had already left for a long weekend! More later.

Apparently lois what you want is a president that insults the military by lying to boost her resume. She basically said the soldiers new she was coming because she said there was suppose to be a ceremony but they didn’t do their jobs and secure the area. All lies cause she thought she would get away with it. Yeah she would be a great commander in cheif.

Posted by: common sense | March 29, 2008, 9:56 pm 9:56 pm

While his emissary, Congressman Capuano, toiled through the evening, guess where Gov. Patrick, Obama’s clone, was? You might ask why wasn’t the Governor on hand for last minute conferences, debriefings? No, he left town on “undisclosed, personal business”. What was that business? We found out yesterday that he was packing for a trip to New York. Turns out he was engaged in a bidding war for his so-called autobiography. Like Obama – expect it to be flimsy. This casino gambling scheme by the way was the centerpiece of his economic plan. Makes you wonder what Obama has in store if he were to become President. P.S., The talk around town is that he is already bored with the governorship.

Posted by: s. valenti | March 29, 2008, 9:56 pm 9:56 pm

By the way, some Massachusetts citizens feel that Patrick had no choice but to “strike while the irons hot”. It seems that Patrick is feeling that the window on interest in anything he might say in a book, might be limited since we can’t be sure that his friend, Obama can even obtain the nomination, much less the presidency.

Posted by: s. valenti | March 29, 2008, 9:57 pm 9:57 pm

How nice of Obama. He is distancing himself from the supporters really would love to have Clinton drop out before the convention.
WHY are his supporters calling for Clinton to drop out before the convention? Because Clinton has a real chance to win the nomination at the convention.
Under the proportional delegate system Obama may be ahead (without the super delegates) … for the first ballot.
Under a winner takes all system (not counting super delegates) here’s what the delegate count looks like to as of mid-March: Clinton: 1418, Obama: 1246 (to be counted on the first ballot at the convention).
If Clinton wins Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky and Puerto Rico and survives the first ballot at the convention we could very well see a Clinton win on the basis of the delegates voting for the winner of the popular vote for their STATE or territory, which is the traditional vote at the convention.
Is this fair? Ask Al Gore about the electoral college voting system.

Obama wisely doesnt want to appear as one who is asking Hillary to pull out. He knows that doing so just makes certain voters feel disenfranchised and compelled to vote the opposite way. Its not logical, but its what many people do. Obama is smart to distance himself from what appears to be a wave of people who are finally to openly object to Hillary’s continued bid (despite odds of winning that are close to zero).

I think this was a wise change in tactic, especially since Democrats were incensed over Leahy’s and Casey’s call for her to quit. Also, he sees her power in Pennsylvania. As for the polls, remember Hillary went through one awful week last week and her poll numbers fell because the media whipped her around. The media have been horribly biased for Obama and I do not think it has anything to do with liking him. Perhaps some of them do, but the press likes to feel its muscle power. The week before while Rev. Wright held sway, Obama’s numbers were down. Hillary is very lucky her supporters are not particularly affected by the press. She is such an awesome candidate, she keeps standing despite the blows!

That is, is this “youth vote” that is “inspired” by obama a color thing? or a “young” thing? If there were another YOUNG, say white Man OR woman running, would the “Young voters” still be inspired I wonder?
Wish I could find some demographics regarding “young voters” from every state that has voted so far, but it would take a long time to find the answer…

Presently Obama is ahead (not counting the super delegates)in the committed delegate count under the proportional delegate system.
Suppose the primaries had been winner takes all (leaving out the super delegates) here’s what the delegate count would look like as of early March: Clinton: 1418, Obama: 1246. This give you a hint of the real situation for the convention.
If Clinton wins Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky and Puerto Rico AND survives the first ballot at the convention we could very well see a Clinton win.
WHY? Because traditionally the delegates end up voting for the winner of the popular vote for their STATE or territory, and most of the super delegates follow suit. Don’t believe me … do the math.
It doesn’t matter if Obama CURRENTLY has the most votes nationwide, which if the 1,754,400 Florida and Michigan votes were counted would only be a 56,524 vote lead over Clinton.
It doesn’t matter that he won more contests (Obama: 28 – Clinton: 17). What matters is that Clinton has won the big states.
Is this fair? Ask Al Gore about the electoral college voting system.
FYI: Number one rule in politics … NEVER! EVER! TAKE YOUR NAME OF THE BALLOT! Obama broke that rule in Michigan.

Once again, Obama proves to be the more gracious and classy of the two Democratic candidates. He has the most votes, the most primary delegates, the most caucus delegates, the most states, the popular vote, and the best poll numbers. But the Clintons will still try to come up with some spin that says they deserve the nomination. Fine, let’s play it out to the end and then make a decision well before the convention. Barack has it EXACTLY right.

I think all the hillary and obama bad-mouth brigades owe it to themselves to watch the PBS special on how the Iraq War started.

Jan, you know that Obama will win and that is more than good news to us, the Republicans who are watching this play out. Obama’s church will be an issue, his cut and run attitude will be an issue, his stance against the war in Iraq and failure to support the troops in Afghanistan by not doing his job in the Senate on NATO will be another issue. He is so screwed when he comes up against the Republicans, that is all before his personal life of lies and blunder hit him in the campaign and then we have Rezko to throw at him. He is an open market for the Repubicans to take aim. He will be so easy, McCain won’t have to say anything, the news media will do it for him. Funny, life just keeps getting better.

Mr. Obama, you have no right to tell Senator Clinton to stay in or drop out the race. None of you have enough delegates to win the nomination. If you are smart, you should drop out the race and do more public service works, start by rebuilding your church. Then there is a chance for you to be the US President in the next 16 years.

His surrogates and campaign have been pushing for this to end quickly and then he jumps in and tries to look like the knight in shining armor who is so kind and gentlemanly. I don’t buy it for a second. The longer is he is in this race, the less I believe he is all that he claims to be.

Oh, I CAN’T WAIT TO FIND OUT IF THIS SCENARIO PLAYS OUT—obama supporters will be threatening, begging, ordering Hillary supporters to vote for obama……….they cannot do it without the “other 1/2″ of the Democrats…
Then if obama loses, the obama supporters will blame the Hillary supporters for not helping obama win the Presidency.

He is leading because of the Caucus and before the Wright’s story. Unfortunately, the winning in Caucus won’t count in the general election. He needs to win big in Primary in order to beat John McCain in November 04. And I don’t think he can convince the voters in Primary States vote for him especial after his pastor story. If he sure he can get their votes why he doesn’t support the re-vote in Florida and Michigan?

It’s amusing to see how the bitter spiteful individuals react to this simple comment from Barack (in response to inane media questions) despite the fact that all that he stated was the simple fact that Hilary can run as long as she wants. Personally, I think that she should run longer. The longer she runs – the deeper she digs her campaign’s grave. True, her campaign’s negativity and attacks on her opponent are taking a large toll on the Democratic Party by turning off conservative and independent voters but she’s not going to find anything of substance that the Clinton spin machine can make stick to Obama. In the end, it will only drive more Democrats over to support Barack.

For Barack to say he will “Change Washington” is as ludicrous as Tiger Woods saying he will change to figure skating. Obama excels at “Old Washington Politics.” He has the full support of the ancient crustaceans who own the hill.
TRUE CHANGE will only come from a candidate who strongly supports the middle class. Clinton’s proposals regarding universal health care & mortgage assistance go far beyond what Obama proposes. She is the Democratic nominee the middle class needs. Clinton in 2008.

Barack is so kind to say that Hillary can stay in. Considering she is supported by at least as many voters as he, that’s big of him. If he is the nominee, we will not win the general election. He has too much baggage that is going to be brought up by the Republicans, particularly the Wright affair, but there’s a lot more that they are sitting on until after the nomination is finalized. If Hillary was the nominee and forced to take him as vp, it would very likely drag her down as well. As far as the Bosnia incident, at least she HAS some experience to embellish.

If the situation were reversed and Obama was behind, clinton and all her animals would be howling for him to get out of the race, and saying he was ruining the party, and blah, blah blah, blah blah
You guys are too much!

LA in Indiana,
I just read a report posted at 11:44 PM that says the Texas apportionment from the caucuses now stands at 50-50. I think the 41% count you are using is what was reported on the day of the primary/caucus. According to multiple citations that was the total number of precints reporting in, when Obama was leading in the caucuses by 56% to 43%. The new numbers I’m hearing seem to indicate that the trend has reversed. I’m sure you hope that is not the case, but I hope it is the case. And if it is the case it will be interesting to see how the pundits explain this one. I’m going to be calling it as buyer’s remorse.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | March 30, 2008, 1:05 am 1:05 am

ahem….Barack Obama WON the Texas Two Step Caucus with pledged delegate win 38-29.
:op
I love it when a plan comes together!

Hillary is a polarizing figure, and this is evidence that she has managed to divide our party.
All I’m seeing is that if Hillary doesn’t win the primary, you will vote for McCain!
My cousin is in Iraq, and I want him home. If you had relatives there, you would think, and act differently.
Hillary voted for this war, and now she’s trying to “fix” the problem,
Unfortunately, I don’t trust that she will.

I sure am glad the candidates are acting like adults because many of their supporters are not. Of course you can’t blame the candidates for all the bitter internet commenters that happen to support them. Why does supporting your candidate have to involve insulting or telling lies about the other one? We have two exceptional candidates here. Pick one and tell us why; we don’t need to hear the latest internet rumors about the other one.

I hope the reports from Texas are the 60-40 Clinton. Perhaps people are waking up and figuring this is only step one of the road to the White House for the democrats and Obama will loose to McCain in a landslide…do the math – zero from Florida…zero from Michigan…-30% Clinton supporters – slam dunk for McCain. Don’t know Obama and from what I have read about him – never want to. I don’t like people who condone racism…condone hatred…and do deals behind the back of the voters (NAFTA/Canada)…too many lies…come on Texas Clinton supporters…stand your ground!!!!!!!!! Gooooo Senator Clinton – even though you did not need Camp Obama permission :-)

puuuleeeeze
GO OBAMA!!!

Posted by: LA in Indiana | March 30, 2008, 1:21 am 1:21 am

obama always claims it’s because she has more name recognition – how stupid does he think we are? as though he doesn’t have just as much name recognition now? puleeze!!! just another excuse for his inability to win big states. (and don’t even get me going on caucuses – where his supporters practically accosted hillary supporters, at least in texas).
and who does he think he is, saying hillary “can run” as long as she wants? it’s not for him to say.
and he says what else will there be to know after the primaries end in june – well, he didn’t think we’d find out about wright, but we did. who knows what else will be coming out. maybe rezko will cop a plea and talk about obama’s wrongdoing. he and the dnc are just wanting this thing ended as soon as possible before we find out the rest of the truth.

Posted by: so saddened | March 30, 2008, 1:21 am 1:21 am

DCVoter,
I don’t hate Obama. I’ll support Obama in 8 years when he has politically matured. I would like to see him admit that his appointment of Wright was a boneheaded move and I could forgive him that. So far he has just weaseled around that subject.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | March 30, 2008, 1:21 am 1:21 am

DCVoter,
One other note, Obama does not appear to have lifted a finger to help resolve the Florida and Michigan debacle. Hillary Clinton is the only candidate that has done so. I don’t see how Obama can be given credit as a leader when he has not shown the basic leadership skills.
What are your thoughts on that?

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | March 30, 2008, 1:25 am 1:25 am

You hillary supporters are supposed to be smart….what REALLY happened with nafta??
And why did Brodie say he was assured by the clinton campaign….hmmmmm
But you didn’t see THAT truth in the news reports, did ya?!

Posted by: LA in Indiana | March 30, 2008, 1:26 am 1:26 am

LA in Indiana – Getting away from the snipping…..can you please let me know how come you support nuclear weapons? someone who want to implement a foreign policy the likes of Bush41 and Regan (although democrat), not counting Florida votes, leaving millions uninsured, never hears the Reverend…oops I was there – kind of lies, condoning racism and hatred from the Reverends mouth (with children present)…..etc. I am not for those things. I am for the rest of the citizens I guess who do not fall within those categories. I am for one United States with a spouse that I would never have to wonder about their patriotism..I am for strength, tenacity, know how to get things done and someone who could do it TODAY…..not with a learning curve.
Clinton should be the nominee for the democrats and she will take the White House. She is the better of the two candidates and frankly, Obama will loose to McCain if he is the nominee. Look at the big picture…it isn’t just about today! Talk issues! Read about things….and learn to see what the spin is!

Posted by: LA girl | March 30, 2008, 1:27 am 1:27 am

Jock59801 – He did do all those things and more..read up because your naive uninformed side is showing.
He does support nuclear weapons, he does want to have his foreign policy patterned after Regan and Bush41, he did lie about being present for the hatred spewed from Reverend Wright, etc. etc. etc. Get informed dude.

LA in Indiana,
I’m not saying I doubt your claim, but it still sounds like the results that were posted by the original 41% of Texas precincts. I’m just not seeing a current number that supports it. Do you have a citation you can point to?

Posted by: MattOhio | March 30, 2008, 1:44 am 1:44 am

no citation wcm, you’ll just have to wait for the news reports.
LAgirl, Obama said he was not present during the soundbite sermons that were put on the 30 second loop on television. And trust me, they scoured those tapes to see if he was there.
He also stated he knew his pastor was controversial and had some controversial sermons. No he did not elaborate on exactly what those were. The sermons played on the news were the ones that were considered the ‘most offensive’. And they tried to say Obama was in attendance….Fox had reported he was there, until they checked his campaign records and found out he was in FL that day.
The main issue here, since you hillary supporters like to continuously question his character….just like his parents aren’t running for President, neither is his pastor.
Stop listening to Hannity, he’ll surely make you into a clinton zombie.

Posted by: LA in Indiana | March 30, 2008, 1:48 am 1:48 am

You’re right cass, she can run as long as she wants to. If she keeps provoking him, and I’m certain she will, he’ll pull all of her skeletons out of her closet, and lord knows there’s more than a few. If he does she stands a real good chance of losing her seat in the Senate. If you’re a sure enough Dem’ you know what that means. If you’re not a sure enough Democrat you’ll probably ask some stupid question.
Come on dude, the good people of New York are already looking down their nose at Democrats for following Bill’s lead. They can’t keep their pants up. The Governor couldn’t do it, and neither could his replacement. Don’t need anymore dirt on Dems’.

LA in Indiana,
So you are projecting that it will turn out that way, right? Nothing substantive yet? Texas is already out to pasture, so it doesn’t really matter in the momentum game, I’d just like to know the facts.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | March 30, 2008, 1:52 am 1:52 am

I am talking about Obama’s character to chose to be associated with someone with such hatred for all those years. It just isn’t reasonable to assume that the Reverend turned it on and off like a water faucet. Obama himself said he was an angry person (the Reverend). He has also said that if the Reverend was not retiring he would have left the church? It took all this for what I feel would have been a very easy decision 19.5 years ago. Also, he has had his young children in the presence of this ‘angry’ person, which is just shameful. I know I may be just another white person but for goodness sake – at some point I would appreciate Obama accepting responsiblity for making such a poor decision. Over and over and over for 20 years. So it is not that the Reverend is running for President, it is the poor judgment Senator Obama showed by his decisions.

Ken: Senior Bush’s administration sponsored Nafta, Bill Clinton worked towards making it into a law. Hillary dint have any public office or responsibility at that time to make NAFTA into a law….Hillary was opposed to it…that is a known fact since 1993….
For your information Obama has promoted NAFTA for Central American countries…and secretly talked to Canadians on promoting NAFTA

Posted by: MattOhio | March 30, 2008, 2:00 am 2:00 am

LA Girl,
OK, I don’t feel quite the same way about Obama’s relationship with the pastor. I think we can reach a summary agreement that the pastor engages in hate speak. That being said, Obama is more than entitled to have a relationship with whoever he chooses. I believe, though, he crossed the line when he placed the man on his campaign, because at that moment Wright became more than an association, he was in fact endorsed by Obama, meaning that Obama accepted him as is in the political realm, hate speech and all. If he would have kept this in the personal realm, then I would not have a problem with him. I understand that you see it differently. At the end of the day, we agree, though, that Obama is showing a judgement problem on this one.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | March 30, 2008, 2:01 am 2:01 am

I am a RC…wouldn’t know….! And as I remember though – I hadn’t seen that with my eyes or heard it with my ears! I suspect Senator Obama was so accustomed to hearing things that he had no idea it was offensive. He knew of these last November and did nothing. What would that say to anyone?

His decision to remain in a church that fed the poor, housed the homeless, helped people as good christians do.
But because people like you thought he should leave after being there for so many years…..aaahhhhh, got it.
Sometimes if you just LISTEN, you can learn something.
The man has said on numerous occasions that those comments, from those particular sermons….he said those type sermons were not typical. Besides, the FOX loop has about what…3 or 4 different sermons from 2001, 2006, 2007. And he preached 3 times a week for 30 yrs….
You do the math.

la in indiana, you say obama has already been “vetted” on the wright thing, and refer to 30 second sound bites. i realize from your posts that you will continue your beliefs despite all evidence to the contrary. however, others do not choose willful blindness. obama’s own words prove his lies. read his books, where he quotes and references wright’s hate speech at length (of course, he writes about it positively and doesn’t call it hate speech, but the words are there, including references to some of the things you say were just 30 second sound bites). then he lies about not knowing, when even his own words prove he knew. then he admits knowing in his coverup speech, then he goes back later to saying he didn’t know. and on and on. it’d be funny if it weren’t so pathetic.

Of course the news wouldn’t tell you he was quoting someone else. Admiral Peck I believe his name is. But you would only know that if you listen to more than the soundbite. He was stating what someone else said lololol on Fox News. Now theres a surprise!

LA in Indiana,
The Houston Chronicle is reporting its latest results as 50-50 from today’s caucus updates. If so this is a 12 point shift in Hillary’s favor in a caucus state. That is extremely significant inasmuch as she has not done well in caucuses previously. It would mean that there has been a shift in the winds.
Earlier today Obama was predicting that he would sustain his caucus delegate win. That’s hard to say at this point.
This thing really is going to go down to the wire.

War is hell and mind bending. Aside from impending danger information and conclusions can confuse life defending decisions. This primary is just as much a part of mental war as any current frontline battle.
Hillary and her family have been an open book for years. What pudits can’t find new to denergrate her they dredge up the past as a negative reminder. The Clinton administration has been, bar none, the finest period of prosperity for all Americans for many many years.
Barack? What do we really know about him? Some say he began running for President when he became an Illinios State Legislature. His association with Woods Fund, William Ayers, and the Arab American Action Network are a matter of record but submergered mysteriously below the water line. Since his political days in Illinios his income has quadrupled. The rest of his negatives are well known. His contributions are few and far between. He claims to be an outsider, but his membership to the U.S.Senate negate that proposition. Because of this alleged outsider definition he thinks he is the agent of change. The rest of who Barack really is remains a mystery.
In war one must never mistake their enemy as a friend. In this election better to err on the side of the candidate who is known instead of a charismatic figure followed by a complacent generation.

It is about racism because the media is not reporting the facts. They took snippets to try and destroy a man. America tries to outweigh 30 years with 30 seconds. You have nothing on Obama so you attack those around him. And had the snippets been accurate thats one thing but they don’t show the full speech which showson one part he was only quoting what a white Ambassador said it. The part about chickens coming home to roost was spoken by a white man an their was no uproar but when Rev Wright quoted it its like the end of the world. This is so crazy that the church the clintons attended the 8 years they were in the whitehouse is defending the Reverend and denouncing those who attack him.

WestCoastMessenger the media wrongly portrayed what was said but lets say Rev Wright did say it just like that. What was false about it. Did America not bomb any of the places he said. Did America not infect blacks with syphillis during the Tuskegee Experiment which was passed on to their wives and unborns so why is it hard to believe America would do the same with aids. Bill Clinton even apologized to the 8 survivors for what America did. And you act like people woke up one day and said they feel like flying a plane in a building. I have not seen such judgement forthcoming in Obama: Rezko, Wright, the disenfranchisement of Florida and Michigan. Perhaps you can point to his legislative record for evidence. What, no?
To me, the latter case shows his greatest weakness in judgement, willing to allow the disenfranchisement of Florida and Michigan. You just don’t win like that on the backs of working class Democrats, no way, no how.

Obama actually has no say in the matter. And, it is highly presumptive for him or anyone else to think otherwise.
Words in this case, “do not matter”. HRC supporters do!
The best thing the DNC, Obama supporters, and the Obama media could do for HRC and us, her supporters, would be to “force her out of the race”.
That way we would get a new, possibly effective DNC, a chastised media, and a stronger than ever HRC simply waiting for 4 yrs to run against a sitting President McCain.
I desperately want the DNC to be completely torn apart from the top down. It has brought us nothing but defeat. The whole lot are worthless. The ones calling for HRC to quit are mostly the same ones who presided over the last 2 debacles. Dean, Brazile, Shrum, etc.
Therefore if it takes Obama being the nominee, then being defeated by McCain, with the help of HRC supporters staying home, to bring down the DNC, I am all for it.
HRC can run in 2012 as “the we told you so” candidate.

He want to be president of the united states and he cannot show favortism. We are one country. He has to respect every american. Their is no person better than the other. Look into his heart. he is trying to unite the cvountry. He cannot change everyone heart, but at least he cvan change 70% of the country. Just think if God gave up on us where would we be. I trust in God. He is first in my life. I pray for Obama and his campange. Every time I pray God open up someone heart to help him. I will pray for Obama until the end of the race. People of all race creeds and colrs that I know is a Obama supporters. Inspite of the Rev. Wright. Obama should not be held for what Rev. I have family members who does not like people of different colors, but that does not mean. I feel everyone has taken it out all of porpotion such as Hillary. Hillary cannot throw stones when she live in a glass house. She lied about her visit in Iraq. I feel she has mislead everyoone about her credibility. Almost every single Obama supporter that reporters ever talk to dont have a CLUE what Obamas platform is. They just know what the media TOLD them to think.
His website TELLS THEM what to think. Like Obama dreamed up all the plans himself. He has no experience so he thought none of it up.

WestCoastMessenger,
Glad you share my feelings. I have been a voting democrat for 46 years and have been shafted so many times by elitist, so-called ” party elders that I simply do not have an ounce of loyalty left for the DNC or Democratic party itself.
This year has been that proverbial “straw”. My only loyalty now is to my country, and the folks I view as having served us best, as a country, the Clintons.
I did not even know that such a far-left wing existed in the Dem party. I am embarrassed to say I had totally missed it.
Now that I am aware, I see it as a mirror image of the R’s far-right, and I want no part of either.
Discovering the book, “Burning at the Grassroots, The Dean Machine” by Dana Duncan, 2 weeks ago, was a true eye opener. It exposes a Karl Rove like “playbook” for the far-left that is stunning!
Everything Obama’s folks have done has come right from that Dean/MoveOn expose. Right down to “schmoozing the press”, stealing at caucuses, A “tar-baby effect” that would equate with race-baiting, using the net to silence opposition, and on and on. Stunning stuff. Totally contrary to Democracy!
The party no longer needs me, and I have never truly needed it. So when HRC is finished, I will be too. Until, and if, she chooses to run again.

RC,
Still perpetrating that fraud about the lobbyists? So your contention is that Senator Obama is some type of arch Angel, devoid of and clean from federal lobbyists money, and somehow Hillary Clinton is the lesser species, having accepted such.
1. Senator Obama accepts money from the wives of federal lobbyists.
2. Senator Obama accepts free labor paid for by federal lobbyists.
3. Senator Obama accepts monies paid by state lobbyists, even if the source of such money was originally from a federal lobbyist to the state lobbyists.
Obama’s hands are looking about as clean as Reverend Wright’s mouth.

it is still appalling that rev wright was ‘gesturing’ the way he was. i saw the clip. how disgusting. but what disgusts me more is obama sat there for 20 years and accepted that and then some. i feel sorry for his daughters. they have been subjected to hate, venom, and anti-americanism. my late father was in the korean war. i can tell you right now, if he heard the rev say GD america….he would have driven to shy-town to pay this ‘gentleman’ veteran visit

MattOhio I understand the Imus situation and I see your point. I’m not saying it’s right If Obama did witness it but I don’t know he did. I have a nephew that use to mock what the pastor would say in church when he was a toddler and the congregation would laugh and talk about it later and still be laughing. I was a member and often went but not once did I ever witness my nephew do that but I heard about it all the time. Also I have friends that I have known all my life that smoke weed that I have never seen smoke weed. I heard them talk about it but never once light up in front of me and once I joined the military they never mentioned it again but I know they do it. And thats why when you take a pastor giving 3 sermons a week over 30 years I can believe Obama didn’t witness it and if he had I’m sure someone would have found him in the audience on film by now. Also wcm no I haven’t seen the sexual one but you can send me the link. But those I did see I know were taken out of context. My point in all this again is I don’t condone the statements from Imus or wright. ALl I am geeting at is why the outrage over a statement now but not when Ambassador Peck said it on fox news.

Posted by: common sense | March 30, 2008, 4:22 am 4:22 am

What I don’t like is that Obama says on the view and Larry King that he didn’t know about a speec h that mentions Hillary by name and compares him to Jesus. Rev Wright aside, Obama is lying with a straight face. No way he did not hear about all of this when he’s a member of that church for so long.
That’s the real issue that won’t go away, The fact that Obama is always double talking everything and lying under pressure. It doesn’t impress people and shows bad judgment. That he’s so good at lying makes it weven worse.

Posted by: Steve | March 30, 2008, 4:28 am 4:28 am

How about all the demands Obama makes in this campaign — he’s so arrogant. Calling people racist, demanding who should be files, and now giving Hillary “permission” to continue. For such a brilliant speeker he really comes off as someone way too arrogant and without grace. This will backfire.
I’m a college graduate, and so are mots of the Hillary supporters I know. Poeple who are not college graduates are also sharp. people are on to his games, and not liking the arrogance, and assumptions will alll to dumb to figure out he’s playing US all.

Here in PA a few days ago they were interviewing college students that heard Bill Clinton speak. Quite a few of them said they they are switching their votes to Hillary.

The way Obama looks “clean” is he plays the classic game of good cop bad cop with David Axelrod, his ruthless strategist and press agent.
That way he’ll get people such as here, to say he never says bad things about Hillary and she is negative. Yeah, right!
Is Resko and Right Hillary’s fault too?

Posted by: Steve | March 30, 2008, 4:45 am 4:45 am

right on mc. how in the heck can obama subject his children to this…

Posted by: carla sue | March 30, 2008, 4:58 am 4:58 am

Hillary is negative. Her only chance is to destroy Obama yet her camp denies everything negative that comes up. If that is her only chance isn’t it reasonable to think her camp is the one trying to destroy Obama. She is making it to where once she lose Obama will lose and we will be stuck with McCain. I’ve been to Iraq and I know what it is like to fight for people that don’t want you there so others can get rich. I’ve lost friends there, one friend lost his arm, and I’ve had two friends overdose on medication after returning home not to mention my brother is a reservist and his unit is prepping for Iraq now. And with McCain as President the war will go on and their friends will get rich and my friends will continue to die. I just feel like the on going battle is helping McCain and with no chance of winning it should be about getting a Dem in the whitehouse. If roles were reversed I think Obama would have put his support behind her. I actully think he would have did it had he lost 12 in a row. So my opinion is that Hillary currently is not benefiting the party.

Yes we can “What”
I come from the advertising industry and I have seen all products sold as: New, Diffrent, Improved, Better, Best. So when I hear slogans and what sounds like and ad campaign where Obama polled popele to see what everyone wants: Change and Hope, and even tied to trademark, Change You can believe In… I say “show me the solutions” and he doesn’t offer any. So Yes we can what? Give Hillary permission to run in PA and beyond. Is that a pesumtive close? A classic sales move or what? Whats’ Obama offering.
I have faoth Hillary will bring change we can believe in whether Obama has a TM or not, he’s not delivering. Has he united US or torn US apart… Oh, and blames Hillary for that. I’n certainly not impressed with Obama’s Hyperbole.

Posted by: Steve | March 30, 2008, 4:59 am 4:59 am

It is becomming quite clear that Obama is more than likely the candidate to go up against McCain. If he does, there are quite a few issues that will haunt Obama and his message will never get out because he will be put on the defense immediately…hence the Swift Boating will come into play. Once this occurs, there will be nothing left for Obama, just the same as it was for Kerry, another liar. Actually, Hillary would be the toughest choice to go up against McCain because her little lies have all aleady been aired. She has nothing new to jump out at the pubic. John McCain and Hillary Clinton are friends, he will not talk about the WH days of Bill clinton.

Also, those of you who want to vote for McCain because you are not getting the Democratic candidate you want is just silly. You rather there be more US casualties in IRAQ because you are not getting your way. Both of the Democratic candidates said they want us out of IRAQ. It is imperative that a Democrat wins the house and that there is Democrat majority(60) in both houses so things can get done. Change is needed in Washington.

Posted by: Louis | March 30, 2008, 5:41 am 5:41 am

Hey Bilbo983 first of all Obama has yet to win a single large state and is fixing to lose another in PA. You want talk about empty promises just look at Obama. All he has to do is give a speech and you idiots are giving him more credence than Bill Clinton who had the greatest economy ever. I find it insulting that Obama would even run on his 1st term as a US Senator. That’s a NO NO in politics. At least Hillary served a full term. Another thing is he could be so damaged in the General election by losing to McCain he would lose his Senate a few years later just like what happened to Edwards.

I find funny how you Republicans are crying about Obama’s pastor saying divisive things yet look at what Pat Roberson has said and he’s endorsed McCain. Robertson said that NY deserved what happened on 911 because of gay’s liberals and the ACLU etc. Another double standard here. Robertson and Farwell are most divisive people ever known to man-kind.

Posted by: VainandPompous | March 30, 2008, 9:07 am 9:07 am

People should tune into George Stephanopolis’ interview Sunday with Sen. Joe Lieberman who basically says that the Democratic Party has been hijacked by the far-left. He has decided to endorse McCain because the Democratic Party is no longer the party of Bill Clinton and Al Gore. I think many of us are listening and agreeing with him. That’s why if it takes a floor fight to reveal where the party now wishes to go, so be it!
p.s., Although Kerry gave a spirited defense of Obama, I just can’t get past the fact that Kerry lost an election that could/should have been won. What is it about these middle aged men who can’t close the deal themselves that they’re so anxious to jump on the bandwagon of the “next new thing”. Guys just go buy a cadillac instead!

Great show today on “This Week with George S.”. At the round-table though the question nobody seems to want to touch – like the elephant in the room – is that as McCain appears to move to the center – will disaffected Democrats cross party lines if the DNC reveals itself to have been hijacked by the left wing of the Party?

Posted by: s. valenti | March 30, 2008, 9:53 am 9:53 am

Deeply concerned,
George Bush has 7 years experience as President, but look what a mess he is leaving this country in. He is leaving two bloody, unwinnable wars and a failing economy. If that is what experience brings, I want an inexperienced president. I want Obama.

Hillary take no prisioners kind of politician. Barack is inclusive. You can try to spin it however you would like, but his supporters want this to end over the bitterness and to bring the party together, but he is supporting the process understanding it may be the only way to unite the party.
Keep practicing division, It’s about the political war, it’s how politics is played, if you can dish it out what kind of person are you?, Can’t be a president if you can’t stand the heat, it’s no longer about issues, it is guilt by association, it is us against them we have to fight dirty, choose whatever rationale you would like. Barack is different and has to potential to impact the country in fundamental ways.

Posted by: goodwins | March 30, 2008, 10:04 am 10:04 am

Obama had NOTHING to do with Michigan and Florida. Hillary AGREED not to campaign in Michigan and Florida because the DNC, not the candidates, took away their votes for breaking the party rules and moving up their primaries. Hillary didn’t care before the election that millions of people would be disenfranchised. Not until she realized she could not win the nomination did she decide to change the rules. You don’t get to change the rules because you are losing. Florida and Michigan should be blaming their elected officials who voted to move the primary up knowing they would lose their delegates. Anyone with half a brain knew a year ago when all of this was going on that Howard Dean was making a huge mistake, if not in the primary, then for the November election. Yet, no one said anything until now all of a sudden when Hillary’s supporters want to whine about “disenfranchisement and democracy”. Where were you a year ago? Michigan and Florida should go to the polls and vote out of office every incumbent and the DNC should fire Howard Dean. No one can blame Obama for not wanting to change the rules in the middle of an election.

People are waking up to how Obama has mis-stated and exaggerated his accomplishments.

Surrendering? That is expected from Barack Obama. I bet another of his mafias will be discovered soon. Doesn’t he care about the humiliation to his surrogates and all that deceit. Does he ever care? After the false prophet of Wright, what will be coming? The nose will be longer than Pinnochio…

Posted by: RossiMass | March 30, 2008, 10:31 am 10:31 am

Keep Hillary in the race, Obama needs an opponent to fight as he travels around the country presenting his program, like he did on The View. By August, Hillary and her gang will still be going on and on and one about a 30 second sound clip from a sermon some pastor made. She is a harmless waste of space.
Texas is a good example of the effect of time on Hillary’s campaign. Texans don’t like liars, and as they get to know the candidates better there is a big shift to Obama.

Posted by: John | March 30, 2008, 10:37 am 10:37 am

To Senator Barack Obama; um, since when does Senator HIllary Clinton need your permission to continue in this DEMOCRATIC nominating process? The last I checked, Americans still had free will and the freedom to vote their conscience. See how quickly this man stoops to condenscend not that he is in the lead in pledged delegates? His hypocrisy is the main reason I would never vote for him.

Checking out some of the complimentary posts by the Obama supporters “what a classy speech” et. al. I happen to think that we reveal our true nature and character in life’s unscripted moments. Have we already forgotten: “Hillary, you’re nice enough” and his snub of Clinton the night of the State of the Union address. Then, there are all of the exaggerations about his background and record.
People are starting to get past the “newness” of Obama’s candidacy. It reminds me of a brand new car model. They’re shiny and new. There’s the promise of great performance BASED SOLELY on spiffy marketing material. It can even seem to hold up during a test drive. Buy this unproven, not fully tested vehicle and you can experience severe “buyer’s remorse”. That’s what I believe we would get if he succeeds in obtaining the nomination. Voters know he can’t win. The DNC knows it too. They just don’t know what to do.

To all you Obama supporters. I have to admire the lot of you who can go through life with a permanatly affixed set of blinders. You rave about what a wonderful speach he gave in Phil. PA about race relations and the need for change. Uhh, he was supposed to be explaining the hate speeches of the unRev. Wright. He deftly changed the speech to race and never addressed 20 years of listening to anti-american rot. You, like the little lambs you are, decided he gave “such an uplifting” speech. “It should be heralded as one of the greatest speeches of all times, etc.” Give me a break. He dodged the bullet and the media and his blind followers allowed him. The only way that fake will ever get my vote is 1.This race starts being run on an even keel, from now to the convention and Hillary does loose to him. 2.The media starts doing their job of just reporting the news instead of some news and several minutes of free commercial time to Obama.

If the media had even come close to treating Obama as they have Clinton (especially Clinton) and McCain he would fold. The media can’t say enough negative things about Clinton, yet, they constantly praise Obama. He got used to that treatment and can’t face anything but praise. The media fears him and the Democratic Party fears him and the Republicans are cutting Clinton to shreds because they know Obama can’t win against McCain. Now, after the treatment the media has given Clinton she can’t win either. McCain is a shoe in and the Republicans wins again. I won’t take a chance on Obama his personality is too much like George Bush’s. Arrogant, immature and inexperienced. He will always use fear of a racial uprising if he doesn’t get his way. Like George Bush, he is just dumb enough to always think he will get his way. It worked for George Bush, so, why not Obama.

The Key word is ” CAN” Clinton can stay in the race as long as she wants.
Thanks Sir Hinus for that permission to continue as you wish.
He has a pattern of saying the exact opposite of his actions or of that of his campaign supporters.
He or his campaign people attack Clinton and then he goes on record in his next speech saying ” I am concerned about the tone of this campaign and of course reminding us ever so often that all he wants to do is pay fair and nice ,but his actions and that of his campaign are quite the opposite.
It makes me ill to see his clever witted speeches playing the nice and unifying boy but he acts against democracy and plays quite dirty campaign tactics .
Once more showing clearly that his words never seem to match his true actions.

Why would you start burning and fighting and tearing up your own community? These candidates do not give a crap about you or me. Power and Money is what they feed on. We working Americans will suffer, due to the mess we are in today for years to come. You don’t see anyone in government struggling to pay bills. WAKE UP PEOPLE, OUR DOLLAR IS DROPPED NEAR THE PESO,GAS IS 5 DOLLARS A GALLON,FOOD IS SKYROCKETED,SOCIAL SECURITY IS GOING BROKE,WALL STREET IS COLLAPSING,WE OWE TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS, THERE ARE NO JOBS, THE SOLDIERS OVER IN IRAQ ARE TIRED FROM BEING OVERUSED,THEREFORE, OUR MILITARY IS WEAK IN CASE OF ATTACK HERE IN AMERICA,OUR REBATE WAS BORROWED FROM CHINA, I’M NOT MAKING THIS UP, READ MORE OF THE PAPER THAN THE HEADLINES. I LOVE AMERICA AND I HATE IT HAS COME TO THIS.
Stop buying all this HYPE from the Cable news. MONEY IS WHAT RUNS ALL NATIONS AND WE WORKING PEOPLE ARE THE ONES TO SUFFER. Don’t burn and tear up your communities over this election crap. You might be like New Orleans and not get it back. Be nice to each other because we are in it together.

Hillary, reassessed
By Richard M. Scaife
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Sunday, March 30, 2008
Sen. Clinton came to the Trib anyway and, for 90 minutes, answered questions.
Her meeting and her remarks during it CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT HER.
Walking into our conference room, not knowing what to expect (or even, perhaps, expecting the worst), took courage and confidence. Not many politicians have political or personal courage today, so it was refreshing to see her exhibit both.
Particularly regarding foreign policy, she identified what we consider to be the most important challenges and dangers that the next president must confront and resolve in order to guarantee our nation’s security. Those include an increasingly hostile Russia, an increasingly powerful China and increasing instability in Pakistan and South America.
Like me, she believes we must pull our troops out of Iraq, because it is time for Iraqis to handle their own destiny — and, more important, because it is past time to end the toll on our soldiers there, to begin rebuilding our military, and to refocus our attention on other threats, starting with Afghanistan.
Does all this mean I’m ready to come out and recommend that our Democrat readers choose Sen. Clinton in Pennsylvania’s April 22 primary?
But it does mean that I have a very different impression of Hillary Clinton today than before last Tuesday’s meeting — and it’s a very favorable one indeed.
Call it a “counterintuitive” impression.

The magical bus is rolling through town. So far they had thrown granny, Rezko, Unrev Wright, and now Leahy under the bus for traction. I’m hoping Michelle O’bell Obama is next.

NEWSWEEK- Giving HILLARY Credit for SCHIP
Despite disparagement from political rivals, we find she deserves
ample credit for expanding children’s health insurance.
Summary
One of Clinton’s signature claims has come under fire from political
foes, quoted by the Boston Globe, who say she doesn’t deserve credit
for expanding federal health insurance for millions of children.
We review the record and conclude that she deserves plenty of credit,
both for the passage of the SCHIP legislation and for pushing outreach
efforts to translate the law into reality.
Analysis
Hillary Clinton has made the claim literally thousands of times,
repeating it constantly in her ads, debate appearances and stump
speeches. She “got health insurance for six million kids,” according
to one ad. (The version shown here ran in Texas, but a similar ad
also ran heavily in Wisconsin.)

california, do you think his northeastern senators advised him to create some layed back humor implying that she should get out? His comment about the movie being thirty minutes too long really does convey his “cool” and laid back treatment of serious matters. I agree that he watches the polls to see if he is still looking “cool”. This time he is caught using the same method he used to distance himself from Rev. Wright hate speech, plaigiarism of others speeches, being caught on NAFTA double talk, and continually playing the race card. He is as bad as Romney, pretending he said or meant something else, or he didn’t know. His surrogates just stepped over the line. How many backtracks can we believe? Do you believe that Leahy did not call him before he called for Hillary to drop out of the campaign?

Hillary cant win, she may as well stay in this Gives Obama a chance to raise a trillion more dollars, if running her campaign is an insight to the way she would run the wight house we would all be in trouble, she’s 9 million in debt had to lend herself 5 million, she couldnt manage the 32 million she raised how is she h=going to manage a trillor dollar budget. no thanks Obama 08

“This is McCain’s worst nightmare–an all out assault on him from two fronts.”
Are you out of your mind? This is the poison pill for the Democrats. I’m a registered Dem who voted for Hillary in the primaries, but who would have voted for Obama in the general had the Rev Wright and Michelle Obama’s views not been aired. I’m glad they have been.
Here’s the issue: McCain is hated by his party because he’s “too liberal”.. which of course makes him perfectly acceptable to a left-leaning white male centrist like me. If Obama gets the nod, I’ll be voting McCain in the fall. We swing-voters will be the end of him.
Now cue the left-wingers to come out with the tired old “you’re ignorant” comment. I’m not ignorant; I’m well-read on the issues… so to rebuf in advance: your version of “ignorance” means “waaaah.. he doesn’t agree with me!” I can debate you to death using actual facts and not emotive half-truths and fallacious arguments.
The bottom line is: under close scrutiny Obama does NOT hold up. He hasn’t even completed his first term as a senator. If he DOES get elected, the beltway insiders on both sides of the aisle will have him for dinner.

Exactly, his people, his supporters have been calling for her to quit and rightly so, she should. She cant win. the superdelegates will not overturn the will of the people. Everyone is just waiting for the other shoe to fall from Obama. Guess what, it might not fall, and meanwhile, the drama continues and each candidate looks worse for the fall. You have not heard Obama say Hillary you need to quit. It’s just like that pastor stuff. Those were the pastor’s words, not his. With as many non thinking americans that exist, I’m surprised America is as great as she is. Too many of you depend on the media to make up your mind. Try to do some thinking on your own.

LET’S BE REALISTIC: IF SENATOR CLINTON IS NOT THE NOMINEE – AMERICA IS BETTER OF WITH SENATOR JOHN McCAIN IN THE WHITE HOUSE. WE CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER MISTAKE IN ELECTING A WRONG PRESIDENT AT THE STAKE OUR COUNTRYS PROBLEM: ECONOMY, IRAQ WAR AND SO ON… WE HAVE NO TIME FOR ON THE JOB TRAINING PRESIDENT IN THE WHITE HOUSE RIGHT NOW – MAYBE SOME OTHER TIME. SENATOR OBAMA IS SAYING: CLINTON CAN RUN AS LONG AS SHE WANTS THIS IS JUST A POLITICAL MANUEVERING ON HIS PART TO SHOW THAT HE IS AN HONORABLE MAN. AFTER DISENFRANCHISING THE VOTERS IN MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA ITS THERE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS TO BE HEARD. WHY SENATOR OBAMA DIDN’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT – IT’S ALL UP TO YOU TO MAKE THE CONCLUSION. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT PEOPLE KNOWS IT AND THEY ARE NOT BORN YESTERDAY. AFTER THIS ELECTION THEY SHOULD FIRE DNC CHAIRMAN HOWARD DEAN FOR SCREWING THIS UP OR HE SHOULD RESIGN – HE HAS A POOR JUDGEMENT.

If democrats wish to pull defeat from the jaws of success, by not voting for Obama or Clinton because one or the other did not win the nomination, well they deserve what they get. Being pigheaded will not be Obama’s fault, Clinton’s fault or the party leaders fault. It will be our fault for giving the Republicans another four years of the George W. Bush failures and bankrupt ideas.

I think a lot of you are failing to recognize the understanding of the workings of Constitutional Government and Senator Obama showing respect for those institutions.
This man represents a once in a generation opportunity to move forward, and maybe fix some of our current sand traps, as well.
I worry about the Clinton Campaign tearing him apart and giving Rash Lamebrain and the RNC all the ammunition they need come the fall.
Another news story cited Bill Clinton telling people to ‘relax’ about the whole situation.
Isn’t that what the Dr says right before he inserts the…..??

It amazes me how off topic these blogs get. I think for the most part, we’re just communicating into an empty cyberspace. Anyway, I’m glad Obama is saying Clinton can continue running. Though she doesn’t need his permission. Maybe it’s another attempt at gallantry, like in Austin at the end of the debate when he jumps up quickly and pulls her chair back with her in it.

“My attitude is that Sen. Clinton can run as long as she wants. Her name is on the ballot … she should be able to compete and her supporters should be able to support her for as long as they are willing or able.”
************************************
Is Obama so arrogant that he thinks Clinton needs his permission? Does he have any idea how patronizing he sounds? Its no wonder the women in this country are offended by this man.

I only have to say that if senator Obama was a roman Catholic he would be asked constantly about his loyalty to the Pope. The Media is trating Obama with very delicate gloves. Why? Asked him what changes is he boing to implemente. How can he say that after 20 years of going to this so called Christian Church he could not see the hate and the racist comments from his Pastor. This is something that is embeded into Rev Wright. He preaches hate and division. I am sitll waiting to hear a Priest attack any ethnic group an “damn” the Nations where you make you living and allow you to say those horrible things. Christ did not preach hate. Obama is just using his eloquence to atract voters. Charisma does not make someone a good President or ruler. Look at history. Castro, Chavez and why not Hitler.
