Obama Focuses Iraq Attacks on McCain

ABC News’ Sunlen Miller Reports: Barack Obama is looking back on Iraq and forward to the general election.

For the second day in a row, Obama, D-Ill., delivered an Iraq-themed speech pegged to fifth anniversary of the start of military operations on March 19, 2003.

In a 26-minute address, the Democratic contender criticized both nomination rival Senator Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and potential general election foe Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., but Obama mentioned McCain’s name nine times and Clinton’s name only once.

Watch the VIDEO HERE.

"Because of the Bush-McCain politics, our debt has ballooned. This is creating problems in our fragile economy," Obama told the Charleston, West Virginia, crowd.

Much of the speech was spent attempting to connect McCain with President Bush uin an attempt to paint McCain as responsible for the negatives of the war.

Obama complimented former President George H.W. Bush, saying he understood how important it was to manage the costs of war, but reserved no mercy for the current President.

"None of this has been the case in the war George W. Bush and John McCain have waged the current Iraq war," he added.

Obama asserted that McCain "refuses" to learn from the "failures" of the Bush years and claimed instead of offering an exit strategy from Iraq, McCain is offering a 100-year occupation.

"John McCain seems determined to carry out a third Bush-term," Obama said.

Obama also criticized McCain for his stance on Bush’s tax cuts saying, "John McCain once opposed these tax cuts –- he rightly called them unfair and fiscally irresponsible. But now he has done an about face and wants to make them permanent, just like he wants a permanent occupation in Iraq."

The candidate’s sole mention of Clinton also involved McCain.

"At that debate in Texas several weeks ago, Senator Clinton attacked John McCain for supporting the policies that have led to our enormous war costs," Obama said, "But her point would have been more compelling had she not joined Senator McCain in making the tragically ill-considered decision to vote for the Iraq war in the first place."

As well OBAMA should, after all JOHN MCCAIN will not be ready on day one. He doesn’t have the helpful advice of a trustworthy guy like REVEREND JEREMIAH WRIGHT on his campaign to help him.

Obama is trading on fear – and disrespecting an American Hero before the debate even starts. So it appears there is lttle difference between Obama and Hillary. It is a shame this is what the Democrats have become. Debate the issues face to face instead of throwing S—t against the wall and see what sticks.
I for one would like to know what the Democrats have accomplished since taking control of both houses. Let me guess Palosi and reid — ZERO — great let put a democrat in the White House and finish the job for the liberal left and media. Has everyone lost their mind? Wake up – The democrats are only good at one thing and they have down to an art form they HATE REPUBLICANS OR ANY ONE WHO DISAGREES WITH THEM. SIGNED FED-UP

Will Mr. Obama go visit the troops in Iraq? He doesn’t seem to care about them. All the others have gone. Is he above it all and doesn’t he want their votes?

Is your Pastor your financial and spiritual advisor? Do you listen to him 100% and follow what he want you to do? Have you ever cursed Government and your country for being where you are today? in economical recession. Did you always followed and did exactly what your parents or uncles advised to you? If answer to these questions is yes then only you can attack Obama. He is grown intelligent man. He knows what is good for the country. You can only ask other people not say bad things but you cant sew their mouth.

McCain “refuses to learn from the
failures of the Bush years”!
Well John McCain saw the failures in the Bush strategy for the war and
strongly suggested the “surge” be instituted by the president and to his credit Bush changed his policy and we are now winning the war thanks to John
McCain! That is known as thinking outside the box, Barack!
We don’t need a president who will look at a failed policy or one that is failing and just give up and move on to the next “flavor of the month” issue!
We need a problem solver and that is
John McCain!
That Bush Third Term Nonsense will not work! John McCain is nobodys clone!

Get real CITIZEN! You have it totally backwards. Republicans don’t care who the President is as long as it is a Republican. Democrates challeng each Democratic opponent to see which would be the best!

WestCoastMessanger has nice words for McCain and not for Obama as her/his candidate Hillary is a great friend of McCain. Organizing tea parties for foreign visitors will never prepare some one to be ready on day one. Day one request judgement and that is what is missing with Hillary. Someone who was not able to manage her family while “things” were happening, somebody who has managed her campaign as a Rhum shop in Castries, that person cannot manage America. OBAMA08.

If there any common sense remaining with Americans, then it is common sense to end this war. Anyway, anyone knows what is the definition of the war? Invading someone else country is not war victory, its called bullying others. That is why whole world is saying that America has created more enemies than 8 years back. We need a messenger who will bring the peace to the world and regain the respect of Great America. Read and listen to What Obama said during his speech. countries like China and India are prospering and WE Americans are fighting on this issue of race and war.

This much hate for either of the candidates has really gotten out of hand. We are supposed to be a “Super Power”, the civilized nation, and yet, we cannot just support our respective candidates without the nastiness and divisiveness. Come on people, GIVE IT A REST. Obama and Clinton are no different on issues. If she was anyone other than a Clinton, she would have been asked to leave the race. I don’t know much about McCain, but I do know that he needs a strong running mate to make it to the white house. I am an independant, and right about now, all I want is for all the bickering and nastiness to stop. I guess my vote will go for the candidate who can address the issues and conduct themselves in a respectible manner. I’m not fooled by the Day One nonsense either. Anyone of them who makes a decision at 3AM (when all our brains are foggy that time of the morning) without first consulting advisors, in my opinion lacks the necessary judgment that great office requires. Just my 2 cents.

Reaganfan said: We need a problem solver and that is John McCain! Would that include his sick “joke” as a solution: “Bomb, bomb, bomb … bomb, bomb Iran” ??

I think that Mr. Clinton is right, if we want the first civilized general presidential campaign in the recent history, campaign which any normal person can look upon without revulsion, campaign of substance without any nonsense like race card playing, swift boating, moveon.orging – we should have campaign between H. Clinton vs. J. McCain. The respect which both candidates have for each other preclude them to resort to any of questionable tactics and lack of support of them from the fringes of both parties will tone the ugly passions down. The race issue which still exist in our society is no priority now for any group and we made actually big progress in this. Mr. Obama candidacy on the other hand just unnecessary inflamed the issue and divide us on healing scars. I am not saying that any black candidate will cause this. This is specifically Mr. Obama problem. His lack of
experience was substituted with above average politician rhetoric skills initially and race card playing later. I do not think that Mr. Powell for instance will have this problem at all.

Kathy, Obama loves the troops in Iraq. He did not want them to be there at the first place. He wants them to get out there.
It was Hillary and McCain who sent them there.

Senator Obama might want to focus more on his campaign and on his own record of lies and deceit. First he lies about Rezko money, then he lies about NAFTA, then his people call his opponents names, then he lies about whether he has heard divisive comments in the pews of his church. Let’s hear something POSITIVE from Senator Obama. Wasn’t he ABOVE this kind of thing?

There is no debating the right-wing, mind-controlled, close-minded, hypocritical GOP sheep on this post. Thye have their closed minds made up, and DAMN the evidence. They distort, smear, and use race-tinged attacks to try and scare people. In short, these people are what is wrong with American today. They are the loyal followers of Karl Rove, Rush, MCain, Bush, and Cheney. They are lemmings incapable of thinkng for themselves. Thus, they feel threatened by an intelligent, reasoned, logical candidate like Obama. They DESERVE 4 more years of lies, deceit, and fearmongering from McCain because that is all they know and understand. If I did not know that they and the administraiton they voted for were dragging this country down more and more, I might kind of feel sorry for them. They are pathetic…

Posted by: miles1967 | March 20, 2008, 1:37 pm 1:37 pm

Obama will serve McCain up as an appetizer in a debate. McCain is such an idiot but i’m glad ot see he was honest enough to say he would see us in Iraq for hte next 100 years. That was very telling of him. Of course, our economy would collapse about 95 years before that could happen, but clearly, McCain won’t let total economic collapse deter him from his unbalanced war views. He is damaged goods. I never understood why anyone would think some former POW Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome Sufferer would be a good person to lead a country or a war.

Posted by: jessboston | March 20, 2008, 1:44 pm 1:44 pm

good to see the racial double standard in America is going strong. Wonder what would happen if the Aryan Lowriders endorsed McCain? hmm guess that would be ok huh?
and to all the joy-joy happy feeling hippies who want a healer in the white house.. ha you must be high. A healer? or how about a Shaman, or maybe Gandalf the Grey? There will always be someone out there that hates us. Remember the hostages in Iran? the bombing of the Marine barracks? Just think, who would our enemies want to win?

I think OBAMA is the best man to get us out of this multinational corporate wars and greed, Hilary is part of them she belongs to a weird church in Washington political circles, a book in May talks how this circle doe snot include Jews, Catholics, Blacks, women, Asians or Latinos, is almost a supremacist group, and she has to pay back to all those lobby rich war mongers back…
OBAMA is the man, yes he might have his flaws but he is the best candidate by far.

What about his decesion to attend Rev. Wrights church for 20yrs. What this say about his judgement. I don’t think that he should be lecturing Hillary about judgement and making mistakes! He has been neutralized on the judgement argument. With that large american flag in the background looks like he is trying to show that he is now proud to be an american. Well Hillary has always been proud of her country! Maybe next we will see him with one on his lapel.

When McCaan is speaking about BOTH Obama and Clinton, and saying that their war policies are wrong, I DON’T HEAR anyone saying that MCCain shouldn’t be speaking like that! Is MCCain supposed to get a free pass because ??? Hillary was talking all day yesterday, and also continues today to talk about MCCain and his unwise choice in wanting to continue the Iraq war, is she wrong for mentioning that?! These are the policies of the democrats (Obama, and Hillary: they want to end the war, and bring our soldiers home, and force the Iraq government to step up, and take care of their own country), the democrat are letting the public know their policy by saying here is what we are going to do, and here is what McCain is going to continue to do. And letting them know that their is a difference, and ther is a choice that has to be made, unless we want our soldiers to saty in Iraq forever.
This is what campaigning is about for Obama, and Hillary, it is rightly telling democats, and independents why they should want change, and want to end the policies of Bush, which ARE NOT WORKING. Just like McCain has been telling people (conservatives), why we need to keep doing what we have been doing for the past 8 years, with little success, even when we have a recession, and massive job loss, and people with no homes, beacsue of mortgage fraud, when people in America can’t afford to go to a doctor.

SS810,
McCain EMBRACED Hagee’s endorsement, McCain sought out Falwell and spoke at Liberty U, McCain calls Rod Parsely his spiritual advisor. Obama REJECTED Farrakhan’s endorsement. Obama has explained himself about his church. move on people or stop being hypocrits!
How about we talk about the issues and quit with the fearmongering and stereotypical hippie remarks. Obama has said along that he would have gone into Afghanistan and even chased al Qaeda into Pakistan. He would not have gotten us into Iraq base don the intelligence AT THAT TIME. So why do you think we would be less safe under Obama? Restoring U.S. credibility while at the same time going after the actual terrorists sounds like a good idea to me, and is totally opposite to what the Bush administration has done this past 5 years.

I am amazed at the kind of “debate” so many of you have. You get your attacks from the media itself, and do not think independently like a good citizen should. Many also seem to ignore facts and recent history and get lost in the mainstream media’s swamp. I am so disappointed in so many Americans. They LIED to you to get you into this war, and yes it is the fundamental reason the economy is sinking. You want the status quo? OK, stay in your illusion, your nightmares of terrorism even as they destroy the American Dream. WAKE UP.

Obama has divided the Democratic party. How is he suppossed to unite the nation. He will never think Iraq is making progress because that would deflate the Democratic argument. Hillary is just as flawed. The Dems do not look at what the region will be like if IRaq is left destabilized. McCain felt all along there was enough troops and he was right. Obama seems not to care at all for the military. McCain has the attitude to unite the country and get the Dems and Repubs to compromise and get legislation passed. A Democratic president with a Democratically controlled Congress only means higher taxes, legislation that is anti-business and a surrender attitude.

Let’s see now. Senator Obama is the product of what. A father did nothing for this country. A background that takes with one hand in someone else’s pocket. Educated on who’s money. 20 year association with a person who will not let social problems heal. If you continue to open wounds, scars will remain. Jobs can never remain if he allows unlimited latin immigration. Other countries are happy with this whole mess.( which started back in Clinton’s time) They have closed the borders, increased security and taken positive action against the muslin invasion. Here you people pick and chose which laws to obey, whine when you have to wait a minute for security and are blind to the history and background of people running for election. We’re falling just like the Roman Empire. Same causes and the results will be the same.

Obama lacks judgment by participating and supporting Rev. Wright’s church. He sat there and listens to those hateful messages for 20 years without opposition. He didn’t have enough common sense to just walk out and condemn that type of behavior. He lacks character by associating what his white grandmother told him in private to that of the public hateful messages of Rev. Wright as being equivalent. We don’t get to choose our Family but we get to choose our Pastors, churches and friends. Obama chose Rev. Wright and his church for the last 20 years. I have been a Democrat for over 30 years. If Obama were to get the nomination, I’ll be switching over to the Republican Party and voting for John McCain. I’ll never go back to the Democratic Party and the reason is simple, I love my country more then I love my party.
Obama lacks judgment and character.
Obama is not Wright for America.

Angel,
If John McCain’s white mentor, pastor, “uncle” of 20 years was an anti-American racist who railed against poor black people instead of “rich white people”—what would you do?
Would you give McCain a pass when he first said “I had no idea, even though I was their 20 years” then, “I was there, but he’s done a lot of good, too.”
Wrong is wrong and you are disingenuous if you don’t see the problem with Obama’s non-denouncing denouncement of Rev. Wright and Obama’s participation in that church for 20 years.

Poor Obama. As much he is about CHANGE..(changing the subject)… this Wright thing will follow him (drip, drip drip) all the way to November.
Obama whisked Wright away for now, but in a couple of weeks Wright is due to get an award at a Divinity School in Texas, so he’ll be there, and so will the media.
Obama, Obama, Obama. You were fun till the bubble burst. Now we know what and who you really are.

as part of my advanced studies, I’ve chosen the american political system as my premise.
why continue to call names? As I’ve stated before, white america is a culture of cynicism and warmongers who never believe truth, but will follow a lie directly to hell.

Barack Obama is the first candidate in years who doesn’t insult our intelligence.
How can anyone justify voting for McCain, a man whose party has plunged us into a wasteful, disastrous, war — and has bloated our deficit and weakened our nation?
Vieweing these things and denoucing Obama at the same time points to racism — and you know it.

Posted by: Brian Pelton | March 20, 2008, 2:44 pm 2:44 pm

Jo, what an intelligent validation of Dutch Citizen’s assumptions. When are you guys going to learn how to THINK??? If McCain wins and keeps running America into the ground, it will be your own damned faults. Same with re-electing that warmongering gang for a second term. I’ll retire over here in Europe where, though some of you claim it’s so messed up, it is actually a paradise of intelligence in comparison to the U.S. citizenry. Call me a traitor for seeing America for what it is, I nevertheless love America and am saddened to see how dumbed down you all have become. In fact, if you all disappoint me one more time with this next election, I swear I’ll give up on you and live my life in peace. I give up, no further comment.

Posted by: Sinclair | March 20, 2008, 2:45 pm 2:45 pm

Sadly, the Dutch Citizen is quite right. We as Americans are very pathetic… The world does look at us and laugh.
There is hope though, and voting for Hillary or McCain won’t ever bring that hope to a reality. Obama is really the one one who has a chance at making us respectful in the world again.

i think in all of this things going on,white america should realise, that they are the ones who are coming weak from all of this,im a black man and to tell you the truth i dont care if obama wins or loses, why because i know that even if he is elected not that much will change in my personal life,or about racism in america, but one thing i dont understand how can white america be this mad about obama for something he did not say ?,and dont be mad about slavery and racism we face everyday in the streets of america, the last time i checked obama has a white mother, but he is not getting any credit for that instead they are trying to make him look like another marcom x,i mean black peoples we can accept obama as a blackman, but most of white forks will never accept a white man with some black blood? i mean who is really racist in america, black or white

Obama is a liar. He has followed his minister for 20 years, thrived on every sermon, and now that he is running for office, he’s turning on his minister in order to pretend that he does not agree with the statements his minister gave. Wake up people. Obama is a phoney. He is a hater. He is a racist. He has never voted on a single important issue. He doesn’t care about issues. Hillary and McCain do, and they have experience to prove it and back it up. I’ll go for either of them before I vote for Obama.

So why are we there,OIL, and its not even getting cheaper. We should leave and leave now and fight terror buy not buying any goods that come from that region. Mr. Obama has no credibility whatsoever as far as I am concern because of his connection with Rev. Wright who, mind you folks, is his spiritual advisor. If Mr. Obama is our nominee for the Office of President of the United States we will have four years of John McCain which is a continuation of George W. Bush’s ill-advise war and a carbon copy of all the ills that Mr. Bush has commited against our beloved country. Hillary Rodham Clinton has always been my choice for this office and I will continue to support her till she assume that office and restore America to the greatness that we all envision that this country can be.

Yes, the surge working. Why have 140,000 troops in IRAQ and continue to pay our enemies there not to engage or fight our soldiers. Could it be that the Bush ‘surge’ policy means an increase in payments to our enemies? If we’re going to pay our enemies not to fight us then why have that many troops there to begin with. No doubt our economy is in such bad shape.

I agree with the bigger message that Duch citizen has. White I don’t think we are Americans are stupid (Otherwise we would not be the world power), we do need to focus on the bigger issues like, Energy policy (so that we do not pay $$$$BBBB to other countries), Iraq war (We are wasting $$$$BBBB here), shoring up our industrial base, health care for all, etc. Our $$ has sunk to a new low. Just because, FOX news riles up people on some old videos of Obams’s pastor, we should not fall for that. We know FOX news has its own agenda (To elect a republican at any cost, even GW to a thrid term!). We should be more objective and focus on larger issues. One of the reason things don’t get done in Wash DC is because of gridlock. We need to see who will be able to bring people to get these done.

So, Bush’s Defense Department gives a massive tanker contract to Northrop Grumman and the European firm EADS. In doing so, it shunned Boeing, which bid on the contract.
This action is perverse on so many levels, it’s hard to know where to begin.
In handing out the contract—worth between $40 billion to $100 billion—for the construction of Air Force refueling tankers, the Bush administration claimed that 25,000 jobs would be created in Alabama and other southern states.
That assertion obscures several key points: Far more jobs—44,000—would have been created had Boeing received the contract, with more than 300 suppliers in 40 states benefiting, according to Boeing. At Boeing plants, those jobs would be highly paid and the workers would be members of unions. The 25,000 jobs Bush claims the contract creates involve far lower-paying jobs assembling parts made overseas. And they’re not union jobs.

“Obama is trading on fear – and disrespecting an American Hero before the debate even starts.”
Obama has never disrepected John Mccains military service. He has a different view on the war in Iraq. That does not mean he disrepects him.
Furthermore, in recent speeches Mccain did not seem to know that Al Qaida was Sunni. That Iran would even contemplate training a radical fundamentalist Sunni organization is absolutely unthinkable. This really makes me question his foreign policy expertise. This is Middle East 101!

Kathy,
You can get the informations about the election from international news/news paper , I mean some informations which US media does not want to release to public here.
The news said Obama is ready to meet all Muslim leaders in the world.
I think Bush knows about this and he tried to stop him.
Bush said on tv interview (if anybody recall), he does not know what Obama believe in.
People just don’t want to believe Bush.
I actually Clinton supporters but some times I must agree what Republican say also if they are right.
The only thing Obama can use as a weapon to attack the other opponent is he does not vote for the war and always says ” Lets people come together”
which I think if he’d like to unity people together why he only attends Black Church, that does not make sense to me.

Something very interesting I just noticed by reading all these comments. Look and you’ll see that this is an accurate observation: the commenters who write their outrage and seem to despise Obama, the ones like Bruce or Bev or the Marine4ever guy, and many others who seem so angry, they are the ones who so obviously have a quite low level of education, and they cannot think critically and creatively, they are not really expressing their own opinions, they were spoon-fed their angry “ideas”. I just wonder whether there are enough better educated Americans to see through all this and realize, once they listen to the words and ideas of Obama, that he is a truly great man, absolutely brilliant, the best leader our nation will see in many generations. If Americans are blind to this and let the media lead them by their ignernt noses to the gates of hell, then it will no longer be a problem that concerns me. How many intelligent Americans are there out there? This next election is going to reveal that, and if the media hoodwinks the majority, then damn their eyes.

Our culture has done quite a bit to help African Americans and for the most part they have done nothing with it (this is admitted by my black friends and I have alot of them, who work and are good responsible people) . The majority of people in prison are african american, this is not because of racism, it is because they broke the law. In fact even as a 52 year old white male that I am, I have to admit I actually agree with some of the things he said! So all you sissy whites out there playing patriotic, GFY! obama talks about “unity” and bringing about change, yet so many involved with his campaign and supporting him are divisive and engaging in politics of the 1950′s…….so much arrogance, naivete, racism and anger……all with one common denominator: obama

The message that most normal Americans got from Barack’s speech is…
Do as I say, not as I do.
That won’t wash. Barack needs to lecture his own community, rather than the rest of us who were willing to give a black man a chance.

Posted by: Jo | March 20, 2008, 4:35 pm 4:35 pm

Obama, the man who thought that all the rest pledging allegiance to the flag were pro keeping the war going, the man who won’t wear the american flag pin on his lapel, the man who thinks even though his preacher spews racist remarks is ok and the man who said that his white mother and white grandmother(who by the way put her life on hold to raise this kid) said things that embarassed him- the lady who took on a colored child to raise in a time when her character was questioned in doing this- but she did it anyway for the love of her grandson even though some of the rest shunned her for it- this man who is embarrassed about his heritage(half white) wants us to believe he’s not placing a race card-any man who won’t pledge allegiance to his own flag does not deserve the presidency.

hey man, you can and be blinded by OBAMA’S empty promises, he hasn’t been elected as president he has more dirt and filth on his lap than most U.S. President that ever served. Like I say, I will vote for the less evil one of our choices, at least I already know Hillary and under Bill our economy was great and we had less foreign intervention except for the Balkan war and Haiti both amended by the UN…off coarse I want our boys and girls home from Iraq, and don’t ever lecture me as an idiot have lost a relative in Iraq? They don’t. And you’ll find that out soon enough.

Senator Clinton will have immediate international credibility that neither mccain nor obama could achieve in their first 6 months, and such credibility will allow her to establish and lead an international effort to begin to confront and destroy terrorism and all that it feeds upon (poverty, hunger, oppression, etc.), so that the threat it poses not only to our troops and our interests, but to foreign nations and peoples as well will be diminished and eradicated and thus, the danger and risks for our own troops will be decreased so that they will receive some much earned rest and recuperation, ready to defend and support America when the next natural disaster or man-made situation arises

why would obama call for unity and support, yet when Senator Clinton acknowledged the contribution of President Johnson to civil rights by enacting legislation which was largely achieved because of the hard work of Martin Luther King Jr., her campaign was accused by obama of diminishing Dr. King’s legacy? if obama feels the need to falsely cry racism to serve his political ends, his words of change are resoundingly hollow

I have a few questions for Mr. Obama (and his supporters) that I know he has no answers for:
1. Why did you join a church with an extreme Black centrist ideology when you could have joined any other church in Chicago?
2. Why did you stay in that church for twenty years even though the leader of the church had views that had they been expressed by a white minister would be seen as racist?
3. Why have you never confronted the minister about his outrageous views, including when he claimed that 9/11 was a justified response to the American support of Israel?
4. Why did you embrace your church leader as a close friend, inviting him to marry you and baptize your children?
5. Why did you expose your two young children to the hateful ideology of your minister every Sunday almost from birth?
6. Why did you use your minister’s sermon (at your own acknowledgement) as the basis for your book?
7. Why did you not repudiate your wife’s comments about being proud of America “for the first time” because it supports you?
8. Now that the nature of your church leader has been exposed, why did you not disown him?
9. Why did you drag your grandmother into the debate about your minister, disclosing information that she, obviously, shared with you in private?
10. Why did you equate your grandmother’s privately expressed views with your minister’s life long career of hatred toward whites?
11. Why did you support Mr. Razko’s (the man that is currently on trial in Chicago for making questionable contributions to your campaign) Arab terrorist linked “charities”?

The GOP will be HURTING in the next elections!!!!
The GOP/Republican tools on these forums wouldn’t dare talk about Republicans and their failed policies. Instead they help themselves feel better about blind support for the Republicans, by attacking Democrats trying to fan the flames of dissent within the DNC.
Well now I know, a vote for a Republican is literally a vote for hate, and misguided spending in an unnecessary war in Iraq, which causes more hate……
Democrats ROCK!!!!!!!!!!
A historic day for Democrats!
Obama made an amazing speech! I have never heard any politician speak so candidly and clearly about ANY topic, much less the state of racism in America.
MAJOR APLAUSE FOR BARRAK OBAMA!!
I like how eloquently Hillary Clinton commented and plugged him for his speech. She knows Barrack summed up the topic of racism so well, that she let it stand as is.
Very graceful of her!
I’d love to see a Republican address this subject in such a direct and intelligent way.
This country has some healing to do and Republicans just GET IN THE WAY.

You guys need to codemn the catholic church for breeding rapist and child molestors (do i hear crickets), instead of crucifying someone for speaking the truth. And Obama doesnt only want whites to change, he wants everyone to change, thats why everyone is voting for him. Blacks aren’t the only ones voting for him, Hillary wants you guys to believe that. That’s why she keeps saying she winning the states that matter. If only blacks were voting for him, he would’ve lost already. Blacks only make up a small percentage of the American population. To Every one of the americans on this blog speaking out negatively and against Barack Obama’s Pastor….You are proving the man right… you are the reason, your statements, your evident position is what jeremiah Wright is talking about and why he is angered. Oh well…I guess the few of you really don’t care about change…why not? when I was in College my frigin’ roomate turned out to be ‘fucin’ Aryan nation member…guns and all…try that on for laughs. He use to call me beatbox…I guess it’s not hard to understand why I didn’t like him much…however do to an inability for my school to find different housing for either of us we were forced to live together for a sememster. Wanna know how that ended? After many days of arguing debating and sometimes enduring angry silence somehow we engaged eachother to a duel. I would have to go to one of his head banging, beer guzzlin, tomato smashin’, get bloody and muddy mash parties and in turn he had to go to one of my beep bop, fresh suit, ‘hood posin’, california smoke puffin’black parties. Oddly enough his acutal interaction with blacks changed his ideals pretty quickly when he realized that they didn’t dislike like him personally. of course he had to hide hide that nazi tattoo and stop saying nig… but yeah a few drinks wit the brothas and some groupie love from the sista’s and my nazi american roomate suddenly realized that black people don’t hate…but we can be angry…likewise it was my first time ever going to a …mash party and i have to admit ….it was great! It was an opportunity to elbow a few white boys in the chin…without reprisal. But… I soon came to realize that they didn’t recognize my aggression as a vent of anger but actually loved me more when I did that…They actually ignored my anger. I was for a moment confused before I too realized that White people don’t want to hate… their just angry at times…too. Well… i don’t know if that means anything to any of you here on this blog but… to my old college roomate, I know your still a republican and probably spend most of your time on those super right wing blogs but if you by chance happen to see this i want you to know…my clothes are still muddy…I love you William…my brotha from another mutha’…

Well Jo. If white people changed there hateful ways, blacks would follow. Remember we are a product of the abuse we have suffered from your race. Not the other way around.
Blacks never made you slaves, beat and hanged your men. Raped your women, and sold your children.
We didn’t tell your race that they couldn’t go to school with our children, drink from the same water fountain, walk on the same side of the road, move into our neighborhoods. Couldn’t make eye to eye contact.
We didn’t give your serviceman the syphilis virus and not tell them.
We didn’t spray your people with water hoses, and unleash our dogs on your children. We never said you couldn’t vote.
No matter what Wright said it will never compare to the abuse our people have suffered thru your people’s hands.
Its a joke for you to even try to compare it. So again when white people stop hating us based on the skin GOD gave us. Then will stop hating you for the devils you have always been.

McCain does not even know the difference between Sunni and Shia! How can we trust him to run an occupation of Iraq? Also the “surge” is not working – Sadr called a cease fire in August – that is the only thing that is holding Iraq together. Sadr is an enemy of the US and our goals and interest are opposite. The future will remain peaceful only if we continue to “give-in” to Sadr.

WOW, These show the passion and emotion, the fact that people really are waking up, that what is being done to the minds of not just Americans, but people all over the world, the brainwashing is so obvious, and some people just don’t want to know the truth.
Everyone must, must read Public Opinion by Walter Lippman, the father of public relations, who literally wrote the book on how both corporations and government can benefit from the knowledge of how to “convince” a group of people, large or small, to go along with an idea they can directly profit from. This is a must read!! written in the 1930′s I believe.

It is PATHETIC that any self identified Republican, Christian, Patriot or Mccain supporter should accuse Obama’s pastor of racism. For nearly two-hundred years American Christian churches encouraged, no, blessed slavery, their own doctrine treated blacks as chattle and women as property. This is our country’s sad history, and yet Obama dares to love what are country is which is good and still can be. Despite the enormous odds, he will be the next POTUS. And for the prejudice scummy trolls out there, Hussein translates in to little beauty. I am no Muslim, but I can assure you, McCain & Clinton possess no beauty whatsoever!

Posted by: Tadster | March 20, 2008, 5:47 pm 5:47 pm

Well Jo. You made it seem that all black people are racist. So you lose that argument. I unlike you realize that there are bad, hateful people on both sides. I unlike you realize that you cant take one man’s words and put them on an entire race of people.
If you had any common sense you would realize that hating Obama, because of his pastor condemning America for there many sins is foolish. If you read your bible you would realize that God’s wrath is upon America. Do you not see the floods, the fire’s, the state our economy is in.
As much as you people hated Rev.Wright’s delivery his message is the same message pastors both black and white are delivering around the country.
God is angry with us for the way we treat fellow human beings and our environment.
He is angry with us for taking church out of schools.
He is angry with us for fighting a war in the holy land.
He is angry at us for all the Iraq citizens we have helped slaughter.
He is angry with us for killing our unborn blessings.
Don’t be a fool, all your life.Take the time to not only read your bible, but to understand your bible. It will truly open your eyes, and help make you a better person than what your parents raised.

Obama supporter – The republicans are laughing at the democrats and will continue to do so all the way to the White House. As a democratic leaning independent, I have been appalled by the fiasco the liberal democratic party insiders created this year. By pushing Obama out front without any real look into his potential downsides, they have given the Republicans an election that should have been a slam dunk. Clinton was an excellent candidate and still is, but the DNC and lots of naive voters will make sure we don’t see her in the White House. I won’t vote for either McCain or Obama this fall. ANYONE BUT OBAMA! OBAMA IS A COMPLETE EMBARRASSMENT TO THE STATE OF ILLINOIS AND THE US SENATE! What other skeletons are lurking in Obama’s closest? Should he come clean now or what to be caught?!?! Apparently we know that answer to that one now!

The Republican Fantasy World
Being Republican DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING ANYMORE.
Small government, NO they don’t know how to do that, why because its not possible. Just like a “victory” Iraq, Republicans prefer NO government at all.
States Rights; NO Republicans don’t believe in protecting those anymore. Cal past 215 to legalize the purchase of pot for medical purposes in Clinton’s era, but during the neo-con Bush era the Fed comes in and literally STEALS California tax revenues generated from these sales. States right? Yea right…….
National Security? 7 in 10 Americans can now easily explain to another the failures of the last 8 years or Neo-con/Republican DOMINATED US foreign policy. We LINCHED the leader of IRAQ which HAD schools for its citizens, a government in place, power and water for the people and a stable economy, and for what? OIL; which has become more expensive in the last 7 years? How do the Republicans treat our military? How much of it are the Republicans going to allow slip into the hands of the private sector where accountability and allegiance to OUR country go out the window?
Please, someone tell me what it means today to be a Republican. Pro hate or pro-anger? YOU CAN NOT LEAD A COUNTRY IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PICK YOUR BATTLES!! Republican, neo-con, conservative, or whatever you want to call them is too old and angry to understand our country and the world as it is today.
Hillary, Obama, or both, I don’t care, the Democrats get my vote.

to crisis08: Yes, one of Obama’s best demographics is those with college degrees. He does well with students too. It is those of us with degrees, jobs, and experience, who are voting for, AND FUNDING Barack Obama. Why does he outpace Clinton in funding? Because of the college educated, not the college students. We’re not smarter than everybody else in this democracy, but we put our money where our mouths are.

BLACK AND PROUD…YOU STATED THINGS THAT HAPPENED A LONG TIME AGO…WHY NOT BRING YOUR CAUSE TO AFRICA, WHERE THEY ARE RAPING, BEATING AND ENSLAVING EACH OTHER AS WE TALK…TELL ME HOW ARE YOU GOING TO BRING UP SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T EXIST ON OUR COUNTRY ANY LONGER BUT YET IS STILL HAPPENING TO YOUR HOMELAND OF AFRICA?

Posted by: MARINE4EVER | March 20, 2008, 6:04 pm 6:04 pm

Blah, blah, blah, black sheep white sheep. Is karl rove the traitor on here again! Divide and conquer; the usual republican way! Is America so scared and afraid that it will put another Republican in the white house!? Are you crazy! McWar has alzheimer’s disease just like Reagan. McWar says we are making great progress in Iraq – what a joke! People be real! Obama ’08!

Posted by: JOHNBCOPELAND | March 20, 2008, 6:05 pm 6:05 pm

MARINE4EVER
Your attitude what is wrong with our country….
People who vote for Republicans are very angry right now. They feel somewhat responsible for our brothers and sisters dying in Iraq, and they should, but that does not mean that because you voted for a warmonger in the last few elections that you have to continue to do so.
Republicans:
Stop feeling so bad and stop voting for GOP’er just because you keep hearing the word “team” associated with them. This is not Football, your votes can help decide whether our brothers and sisters fight and die for causes that all Americans believe in and support.
Do not let your guilt get in the way of your intelligence!
By the way, where are the centrist Republicans? Why does the GOP have to have a big rubber stamp as a constituency?
I would rather have a Democrat wasting a billion on helping the poor or disabled or uneducated, than have a neo-con Republican blow a billion on killing tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi and thousands of US service men and women.
Republicans will do anything and everything in their power to keep you from retaining an opinion based on the facts that their incompetence is comprised of.

obama gave great speech, justifying his pastor’s evil sermons by bringing up slavery, segregation, racism. Wake up obama, it’s 2008 ! Stop dividing the nation even more.

Posted by: pam | March 20, 2008, 6:06 pm 6:06 pm

Wake up Pam … you can’t sweep it all under a rug. That does not unite a nation. Honest unites a nation, and we got honesty in that speech from a TRUE patriot, Barack Obama.

OH ANOTHERE THING, IF YOU GUYS REALLY LOOK AT THE SLAVE HISTORY IN AFRICA, ESPECIALLY IN SOUTH AFRICA. THE BLACKS WERE THE ONES THAT ENSLAVED THE WHITE FIRST, THAN OTHER POWERFUL TRIBES ENSLAVED THEIR OWN PEOPLE AND SOLD THEM TO THE ARABS. THEN THE ARABS SOLD THE AFRICANS TO THE EUROPEAN, YEAH THE DUTCH TRADING COMPANY…THIS FOR THE DUTCH CITIZEN, YOU GUYS WERE THE FIRST EUROPEANS TO ENSLAVED THEM…

Posted by: MARINE4EVER | March 20, 2008, 6:09 pm 6:09 pm

TWO ITEMS JUST IN: 1) In interview with WIP, Philadelphia this morning, Obama says more about his white grandmother: “The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. But she is a *typical white person*. Ah, so now Mr. Obama sees his job as to lecture the rest of us about being a typical white person? 2) John Kerry says “color of Obama’s skin makes him uniquely qualified for president.” Hm, doesn’t that kind of prove Geraldine Ferraro’s point? GET THIS MAN OUT OF THE PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY BEFORE MY HEAD EXPLODES.

Posted by: Heather | March 20, 2008, 6:13 pm 6:13 pm

“typical white person”. I have brown friends-indians and yellow friends-chinese and have the same fear as his grand-ma. Are they typical brown person and typical
yellow person ?

Those of you who last week said that Obama was not experienced enough to be president, are now confronted with a candidate who took one of the most difficult issues of our time head-on. He approached the subject with wisdom, humility, and leadership. Clinton and McCain, and all of the Republican tools, approach the same subjects with cynicism. “Obama is just words.” Yes, effective words. And the most rational policies. Check them out at his website. Then check out Hillary Clinton, who just wants to “turn up the heat” rather than rationally state a single productive policy.

Posted by: malthusian77 | March 20, 2008, 6:15 pm 6:15 pm

I saw the headline “Obama attacks McCain” – and for a moment thought maybe he tried to beat him up or something – I wouldn’t have been surprised. I always have to tell my kids to play nicely with each other – seems we shouldn’t have to tell politicians to be nice to one another and treat each other with respect, kindness and basic courtesy.

Dear Senator Barack Obama:
You have shown yourself to be dishonest, to lack judgement, to be willing to tear the Democratic Party and the whole country apart, to be all talk, and to be a closet racist. Get out of the race now. You are in way over your head, and the United States just can’t afford your ego trip. Step aside now.

Posted by: Marty | March 20, 2008, 6:16 pm 6:16 pm

Senator Obama, where was your sound judgement when you decided not to participate in FL and MI primaries? How can a presidential candidate win general elections without respecting two major states? Just because, others said “no”, you should not have followed them blindly, if you claimed to have “sound judgement”. Today if you still run on “Sound Judgement”, you should accept a redo. A gentleman as brave and as candid as you claim to be must not shy away from competition and even defeat. You’re fighting for the people, so let them respect you by doing the right thing. Respectfully, HK.

“I guess that is what you mean when you say Dems. rock.”
THAT’S RIGHT, Democrats ROCK.
Women’s Right
Civil Rights
Voting Rights
Abortion Rights
What Party has historically been better at protecting these rights for people?
Democrats.
Dissent is healthy within a Party!!
This election is not about Hillary versus Obama, it’s about Democrat versus Republican.
Hillary or Obama, or both.

But Africa no longer has the gold that made it such a great nation. And were to busy fighting the war for oil.
Believe me I would fully support anything our country did to help the people of Africa, But dark skinned people have never been high on this countries list of priorities.

Obama’s Words: “I’m about hope & unity”
Obama’s Actions: Sitting in pews for

Yes, actions speak louder than words.

HK: If you have listened to Obama, he is for a reasonable redo in FL & MI. It will help push him over the 2025 delegates he needs. But he wants it to be fair and legal. A redo will NOT help Clinton in the delegate count, it will doom her. Do the math.

Obama equated 20 years of spewing white hatred and America bashing with some comments from his white grandmother.
If that’s how he treats/betrays his white grandmother, imagine how he’d treat the rest of us white Americans if he were president.
Plus equating the two is the stupidest thing he said.

hey malthusian 77, I’m not sweeping any thing under the rug. No president, black or white, no policy is going to unite the people. ONLY the people can choose to unite or disunite ! The power is in the people!, not the goverment.

Face it – Obama wants to be president because it’s “time to get even with white America.”
And how hard would it be to remove a black president from office? Impossible.
No thanks.

HK: a repost: Clinton would need to get 64.2% of the remaining pledged delegates in order to catch. That is HIGHLY unlikely. Interestingly, if we have a revote in Fl and Mi, and Obama retains his 200 some superdeletates, then he only needs a little over 45% of the remaining delegates to clinch the nomination. Get used to him folks, the numbers are on his side.

c’mon…never listed as high priority? think again affirmitive action! if you don’t think this country gives every color of skin a chance, why does a colored woman holds the most powerful seat in the government, and colored man hold the highest sit in the justice department? CONDI RICE AND THOMAS CLARENCE! anymore pity and excuses why the rest of the black community is not progressing because Africa has been robbed out its gold and bling is a really really silly excuses of self pity failure…trust me I work 2 jobs ever since the aerospace industry is shrinking…when growing up I saw more black kids intimidating the white kids…

I’m with Pam on the revote. But since I can’t really, I will not support a certain nominee if he makes it to the election. (kind of gave it away there didn’t I) What is left in store to learn? Probably don’t want to know.
I can have my voice heard in November if I feel the wrong person wins the nomination. I will vote Nader or something else. Or just in spite, I could even hold my nose and vote McCaine. Take that to the bank.

You write such embarrassingly ignorant things, and with such a mindless tone of disrespect and hatred that I cannot and will not continue. Because of you guys I am finished with this forum. jessboston: Are You Serious!
Obama wouldn’t stand a chance in a
Debate with McCain whether it’s about
the economy or Iraq!
Obama is going to have to tell us his plans for the economy and Iraq in the
debates, not just make nice speeches!
As far as I can see his plans for Iraq are to declare defeat(even though we’re
winning) and withdraw our troops!
His plans for our economy include
spending billions of dollars on universal healthcare, spending billions of dollars to bail out irresponsible homeowners who bought homes they couldn’t afford, and spending 1 billion
dollars a year on Afganistan!
So he plans to Spend us out of the recession! No Thanks!
By the way McCain Never said we would be in Iraq for 100 years!
He said we could have troops in that
area of the middle east for that long!
We still have troops in Germany, Japan,
60 years after those wars ended!
That’s what he meant and said!

Posted by: reaganfan | March 21, 2008, 12:01 am 12:01 am

Jim Kiricov:
You’d better save that Whitehouse greeter job for Hillary or Barack!
By the way McCain is only two years
older than Reagan was when he was elected! In case you haven’t noticed
recent polls show McCain ahead of
Obama by 7 points and ahaed of
Clinton by 10 points!
Considering how the MSM is telling us daily how bad a president Bush is, Obama and Clinton should be 10 points ahead of McCain at this time!
I do think it will be a close election, but McCain will get enough Independents
and Reagan Democrats to win in November!

Listening Obama I wonder what would be his reaction if our country is under attack as was in september ll.
He think he is special because he did not vote for the war, but REMEMBER, IN THE BEGINING THE WAR WAS AGAINST AFGANISTAN WHERE OSAMA BIN LANDEN WAS HIDDEN.
Obama will not respond when we are under attack?
This issue show the kind of president that he will be.
Obama is not trusted, this are dangerous time and we need a strong person as Hillary Clinton.

Neither Mc Cain and Obama have the personality, the trust of other leaders and the prestige that Hillary Clinton.
She will put other countries in our side to help us finish with whatever is needed in the middle east, including support to the refugees.
So, vote for Hillary!

Obama came here to NC Wednesday to Fayetteville, which probably has the highes black population in the state and also the highest crime rate. It is also home to Ft. Bragg. He didn’t bother to come here to Camp Lejeune to speak. He probably knew no one wanted to hear anything he had to say. After his foreign policy advisors stating specifically that he could not say with any certainty what would be going on in Iraq next Jan., and the best case scenario would be to pull out about sixteen months in, if nothing was going wrong, Obama stood up and promised these people in Fayetteville that he was going to pull out one combat brigade per month starting in Jan, 2009. How stupid does he think people are? He is like a cult leader, and thinks no one listens to anything anyone else says besides him, not even his own foreign policy advisors. Does he have a crystal ball? Can he read the future in tea leaves? To stand there and promise these people who have relatives over there that he is going to bring them back at a certain time when he knows it is not possible. If a General is standing there telling him that to pull out so many would put the rest in danger, is he going to pull them out anyway? This man says what he thinks you want to hear, period, and counts on everyone to be too blinded by his superstardom to think rationally.

Obama is blaming of the Bush/McCain Government(huh?) for the current economic crisis is pure propaganda. If you remember, the crisis started with people stupid or greedy enough not to know what an adjustable mortgage is. The purchase is probably the most expensive thing they ever bought. They get loans from opportunistic brokers (aren’t they all trying to make a sale?) to buy houses they cannot really afford. Consider that most of foreclosures are in the ‘minority’ neighborhoods in the country. You start to see who really is responsible, the same people who are Obama’s supporters, the same ones who now are crying for the government to ‘rescue’ their homes. Obama does not know what he’s talking about. Instead of running for office, he should star in the next movie called- Clueless: The Mouth Without A Brain.

Amazing! In Obama’s world people of a certain color have every right to fear America, but Americans has no right to fear the terrorists.
I admit as a white woman, I fear any guy who has a bunch of tattoos when I’m walking alone. His skin color makes no difference.

Come on guys!
The forum is not about us tearing each other down, but, who among the candidates has the best policies to be commander in chief. Therefore, we should all focus on policies(issues that matter to the American people) rather than on distractions such as 100 years in Iraq or pastor Wright or G. Feraro.
Let’s start it now.

20 years 0f attending a church and I never figured out what my pastors sermons were about, I’m very intelligent. Hehehe… How will I ever figure out or even begin to, what our fine intellects of the government do everyday working on solutions to the problems of our great country and making it better. Oh man and when it comes to adding the world on top of this. I attended a church FAITHFULLY for 20 years and finally I learned from outside sources what my pastor was preaching. I must have missed it all or just did not understand. Yes I want to be your President of the greatest nation on earth and I can completely understand why my loving wife would finally be proud of the United States of America for the very first time. After all she married me. Oh my gosh, is this real? Maybe I should ask the good American people to think this over a little more. Then again, I’m a super hero, I can change everything, just not improve it. Hillary’s skeletons are out of the closet, at least she can work ahead now. Also, she does have credentials and is very capable of building on them and adding more to the list. But McCains the one, reasonable, professional, patriotic and proven even recently to be able to conduct with many world leaders and powers. And most of all, what does all places want to see on your resume? Experience, All questions answered now. Mr. Obama, one good line of advice. Find another church of good teachings and true faith, listen learn and then pander returning. God Bless, good night to all.

I got about halfway down when I started hearing Marines comment on stuff and they are actually voting for McSame! I left the Corps because I won’t work for a terrorist like Bush. The “typical white person” was not an insult, albeit, an observation. Obama hasn’t made this about race, all of his opponents have. How many of you go to church, but don’t agree with everything your pastor says? How many don’t agree with your spouse? Reportedly, Clinton doesn’t and it’s okay for her. Do yourself a favor and treat it like debate class in high school and weigh the pros and cons. Everyone knows this will cause a landslide for Obama. Clinton is working for the Republicans to appease special interests.
