Obama’s Spiritual Mentor: “Hillary Ain’t Never Been Called a N—–”
On Good Morning America this a.m., Brian Ross took a look (watch HERE) at Obama’s pastor at Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who retired last month.
Wright in one 2003 sermon said of the treatment of African-Americans by the U.S., "The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three strikes law and then wants us to sing ‘God bless America,’ No, no, no, not ‘God bless America,’ God damn America — that’s in the Bible, you’re killing innocent people, God damn America for treating us citizens as less than human."
After 9/11, Wright said, "We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagaski and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye…America’s chickens are coming home to roost."
"I don’t think that my church is actually particularly controversial," Obama has said.
In THIS CLIP which ran on Fox News last night, Wright talks about Obama being hated because he "doesn’t fit the model — he ain’t white, he ain’t rich, and he ain’t privileged."
Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, Wright says, fits the mold.
"Hillary never had a cab whiz past her and not pick her up because her skin was the wrong color," Wright says. "Hillary never had to worry about being pulled over in her car as a black man driving in the wrong…I am sick of negroes who just do not get it. Hillary was not a black boy raised in a single parent home, Barack was. Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a n—–."
When asked about these kinds of comments in the past, Obama spokesman Bill Burton has said that "Obama has said repeatedly that personal attacks such as this have no place in this campaign or our politics, whether they’re offered from a platform at a rally or the pulpit of a church."
Burton told Fox News that “Senator Obama does not think of the pastor of his church in political terms. Like a member of his family, there are things he says with which Senator Obama deeply disagrees.”
But is it true that Obama doesn’t think of Wright in political terms?
Last December, Obama’s campaign issued a press release in which Wright was listed as a national leader of the Obama campaign’s "African American Religious Leadership Committee."
That’s pretty political.
Should Obama denounce Wright’s language, his sentiments, and allow him to remain on his campaign committee? What do you think?

I don’t think that what Hillary’s been called is much better than what Obama’s been called. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a person’s gender or their race that is being derided. It’s all personal and it’s all inappropriate. I believe that Sen. Clinton’s overcome cultural obsticals of her own in order to get to the place she’s in today.

I think white america is doing a perfect job at finding different things to beat Obama up about.
White america doesn’t want Obama to be president, we already know that.
So yep…you guys are doing an excellent job at making sure that doesn’t happen.
And don’t worry, most african americans are not disillusioned with this political process. We already know what side our bread is buttered on.

Why did it take FOX news to bring this story to front. obama has been a member for over 20 years at this church, in one of his books he list this man as a mentor. This is just another example of MSM let him slide.

Why is it that there are so many freaky people around Obama? The saying show me your friends and I will tell you who you are keeps ringing in my ears.
How in heavens name can a man that seems to have surrounded his self with all these odd characters now come and say that is how they think am different.
For a AA living in a evil white America, Obama has done pretty well I would say better than some whites, his wife also gives the impression that she also has been a victim of white America but yet she take home over 300,000 a year and they both live in a million dollar mansion.
Something is not right here seems there are an awful lot of people around Obama with hidden agendas of some sort, I don’t need to wake up and get it I got it a long time now I was just waiting on the majority of Americans to wake up and get it and I do hope after all this they really start to think before they go out and vote.

Unbelievable! Is this comment part of Wright’s new black theology? As a white male, I’m starting to get really worried about the possibility of having an African-American as President of the Uinted States that is part of this movement. I’m sick of the hypocresy of politically correct rhetoric. If a black candidate is supported by the majority of the African-American community is supposedly because of their ‘empathy’ toward “black values”, BUT if a white person makes a comment like the one made by Geraldine Ferraro, then it’s racist. This is just ridiculous. If a black voter decides to vote for a black candidate because he or she feels identified with it, it’s OK but by the same token, if a white voter favors a white candidate over the African-american, it’s just because the same principle. It’s not a matter of being racist or not. It’s just a matter of not only supporting a candidate that we feel culturally identified with, but also choosing the one that can solve our most pressing issues.
I think it’s time we all stand up against the media which to my opinion, is in part responsible for feeding us with this kind of politically-biased poison.

There is an old saying that applies to Obama in this case: “Birds of the same feather flock together”.
Obama has been a member of this church for 20 years! That’s enough time for him to have realized what the ideological background of his church is. I find it mind blowing that a supposedly avantgard presidential candidate can continue to associate himself with such retrograde beliefs as professed in the Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ.

Wake up America!! Do we want a United States President who won’t salute the US Flag, whose mentor says “God Damn America”, who is a Muslim – Our country is based on Christian beliefs, and who claims “his race” is superior to all others. I don’t care what race or religion he is, but the President of the United States must serve ALL of its citizens.

Finally this very important story is getting examined. This is the man Obama calls his “spiritual mentor”, perhaps the greatest shaper of his thinking. This is the pastor and church that Obama has embraced. This has been the petri dish in which Obama’s views were formed. That is very troubling, particularly concerning the several times now where we have seen that what Obama is telling voters is different from what he has planned if he gets elected.

Hilary is white, rich (not one, but at least TWO multi-million dollar homes) and sitting pretty. Nobody knows what it’s like to walk down the street and have others cross the street to avoid you or to be pulled over by the police for DWB (driving while Black) except another Black male. The minister’s speech is bombastic, but not entirely inaccurate. BUT this was said by someone not in the Obama campaign. I don’t see the problem, unless it’s yet another attempt by the media to smear Obama by (very loose) association.
Posted by: sophillyfatz | March 13, 2008, 10:16 am 10:16 am
Senator Clinton’s accomplishments are nil. Her fitness to lead unproven, likewise Senator Obama.
What is refreshing to me is that the campaign is surfacing long submerged wounds in the national psche. Black people rightfully have a hero and the nation is seeing what the founding fathers claimed to embrace “liberty and justice for all.”
It has taken over 200 years to get here but we’re seeing real change. True the race issue still raises it’s ugly head but the fact that it is mentioned at all is because a black American is seen more as a statesman than as a black man. We are seeing the value of the man rather than the color of the skin. We’re finally becoming color blind although much yet needs to be done.
Long live the American republic and the ability of the most heterogeneous populace in the world to work out the most vexing problems known to mankind.

I am trying to figure out what the pastor has said so wrong. We did do all the things the pastor mention. Why is it the US never has to take responsibilty for the things we do, but point fingers at everyone else. In 1921 the US government bomb Tulsa, Oklahoma and worked with the Klan to do it. There was a community there made up of African Americans and Native Americans. It was thriving and they did not spend money own the with white businesses. This is why they were bomb from the air and burn from the ground.More people died than 911. This is by real count, the greatest American tragedy!

Yeah, I am an Obama supporter and def. don’t agree with that. What I will say though is that it wasn’t Obama who was saying those things and remember the clips are from sermons spread across years, which Obama may have never heard.

“White america doesn’t want Obama to be president…”
As a white, conservative Republican, I don’t want Sen. Obama being president. Not because of his race, but because of his ideology. I don’t want Sen. Clinton to be president either. Not because of her gender, but because of her ideology. Regular readers of this blog know that I wanted Dr. Condoleezza Rice to be the Republican nominee. Now that Sen. McCain has the nomination, I hope that he will select Dr. Rice to be his running mate.
For me, it is not about race or gender. I do not want the United States of America to become a Socialist country. And I certainly don’t want the federal government running our health care system (warning: you won’t be able to sue the federal government for malpractice). Both Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton want to do just that!

What church does Bill go to? What church does Macain go too..Because you go to a church you don’t have to agree with everything the pastor says..if you do you are a fool.

Yeah, let’s start an investigation of what people are being told in American churches… and reflect on the nightmare of the impact of religion on politics…
Bush…
You’ll find horrendous ideas on society and the woe on America in MANY of our churches, white or brown or black.
So this is not about race, this is about religion and its alienation of the world.
Luckily Obama is a politician who has proven to be not some advocate of single narrow minded religious view of reality.
Wright focuses, in a black church, on the suffering of black people in the history of the USA. Let’s have some understanding for that. He’s right and wrong on many things, as all pastors are.
He’s not one of the ‘Obamas’, he’s not in Obama’s campaign, etc. Obama simply owes him for opening his eyes back in 1980 or so on the story of Jesus Christ.
Obama is a brilliant politician, and the greatest candidate running for President in 2008. And Wright? He has retired, thank God.

Obama is not black. His mother was white. Unless we feel that any percentage of black “blood” is enough to taint you, calling Obama black is an insult to all. As for his pastor, I am sure the Republicans are drooling over the chance to make an issue of his church. Remember what they did to a Vietnam veteran. They made him look bad compared to a “reservist” who never served his time.

I THINK THIS PASTOR IS AN ANGRY LOOSE CANNON. IF OBAMA IS A UNITER WHAT IS HE DOING ASSOCIATED WITH THIS CHURCH. OBAMA SAYS HE DOESN’T AGREE WITH MOST OF HIS PASTOR’S STANDS THEN MY QUESTION IS – WHY BELONG. HE HAS BEEN THERE FOR OVER 20 YEARS. SOMETHING JUST DOESN’T FEEL RIGHT. TIME TO RETHINK MY VOTE.

Guess this explains why Michelle hasn’t been proud of America her whole adult life – her preacher has been preaching to her to not be for 20 years now. Are we to believe Obama feels any differently? And Geraldine was called a racist by Obama’s people? Unbelieveable.

Actions speak louder than words. Obama found himself at home at Wright’s Church. He never left and moved to another place of worship. He embraced Wright and his spiritual teaching. And then he tries to pass Wright off as an “uncle” who sometimes says off-color things. One of the fundamental choices many people make in their lives is where they worship – where they feel comfortable, especially with their spiritual leader. Obama’s choice is very troubling.

I will say… I am an Obama supporter through and through…probabaly one of his biggest now on these blogs…but absolutely
He needs to quickly and unequivically denounce this man’s rhetoric…
I have spent two days explaining what Ferraro said was stupid…and here is this guy in hiw “family” throwing around horrible horrible rhetoric…
If he is like an “uncle” who say stupid things…
This is the time to say…Uncle …you are destructive and said horrible things that hurt a lot of people and I can not see how I can continue my message with words like that coming out of your mouth”
and Obama needs to show how legitimately this is a blow to him personally…not about the campaign…but when someone close to yuo screws up this bad… you need to have some tough love…
I think this was a dis to women to say that Hillary hasn’t had her own cab driver issues… like being intimidated or being told she can’t runfor something…
I need to know right now that Obama is the man he says he is…and if he is then no question he is the president of the US.
If he isn’t unfortunately…I need to think respect first and that character is stronger in my candidate first before anything else… … John McCain will be my guy.

There are truths to be told in this country and, as an “older white woman,” I don’t find Rev. Wright’s remarks to be anything other than truths. They may be inflammatory and I’m sure they didn’t help Obama’s run for president any, but that doesn’t negate the fact that this country has alot to answer for and it takes a brave, brave person to come out and speak these words. It is my belief that true patriotism has nothing at all to do with saluting the flag, wearing a pin on one’s lapel, going to church, or spouting the party line, but more to do with talking about what can make this a better country for all of us. We have a long way to go.

Were black people racist in 2000 when they voted overwhelmingly for Al Gore? It wasn’t even an issue.
Were black people racist in 2004 when they voted overwhelmingly for John Kerry? It wasn’t even an issue.
Now here in 2008, Geraldine Ferraro, angry because black people are voting overwhelmingly for Barack Obama….NOW its a frickin issue!
Black people are supposed to sit back and wait to be told who to vote for. Hmmmm, I guess black people forgot their place. That is why I say this whole issue is nothing but smoke and mirrors. Another political ploy to insure the white vote for hillary clinton. Ooops, we didn’t do it on purpose. Nawww, of course not, it doesn’t fit a pattern….what were we thinking?!
Sorry folks, but this is totally disingenuous. I believe most of us were born AT night, not LAST night.
LOOK, someone stole the stupid crayon…..

Paster Wright is listed as a national leader of Obama’s campaign as recently as December. Then why cast stones at Mrs Ferraro’s comment? Yes, its a free country in terms of speech but why is free only for a select few in this primary?
Posted by: Evie | March 13, 2008, 10:31 am 10:31 am
Rev Wright is part of Obama’s campaign to be President. He was Obama’s pastor for 20 years, he married him and baptized his children.
If the Ferraro comments were relevant and newsworthy then this certainly is as well. The press fell over itself to cover the Ferraro story and condemn her (and Clinton in the process) but these comments (and others) by Wright are barely discussed? Why?
Rev Wright has very openly praised Obama and slammed Clinton from the pulpit. The Wall Street Journal ran a recent story that he may be violating tax codes in doing so since he is essentially campaigning for Obama in a church setting. A larger concern arises when looking at the actual words Wright has been using to promote Obama. They could not be more bitter, angry, divisive and full of hate. They make Ferraro’s “racist” remarks look like child’s play.
I see no unity, hope and transcending race here. I see a horrible escalation of racial politics. It makes me heartsick.
Senator Obama must speak clearly and forcefully on this before it escalates further. Show us his leadership and his ability to confront tough, divisive, hateful situations head-on. I have been distressed to see what I perceive as him fanning the flames and keeping this issue alive (and even causing it to escalate further). I hope I am wrong.

Oh please get off this am black and I need a break line. The world owes no one anything, you make your life as best as you can, not sitting there waiting on handouts, blaming everyone under the sun for slavery and feeling the entire world owes you a free pass for that.
That is the problem when Obama started his campaign he set off on a “our time has come line”, he knew exactly what he was saying and who he was reaching out to, but he was given a free pass on that line because no one wanted to be called racist if they asked him to explain what the meaning of that line was.
If a white person was to say it’s “out time” in America he would be pulled over the coals for saying that, you would here that was a no no he cant say that, he offended so many people, just like the “fairy tale” line that had nothing to do with race but it was turned upside down with people saying how shocked and hurt they were at it.
Well here we have some rather disturbing statements that leaves no doubt as to how you view it and no doubt to exactly what this pastor is trying to say. The “chickens are really coming home to roost” and the DNC better dump this guy because I can never support anyone or any group that believes America got what it deserved.

This whole Obama thing is nothing more than the Greatest Performance on earth.
FOr the Obama camp to make it an issue about Mrs. Ferrara, is nothing more than a total disgrace.
How dare they set the rules for this campaign, and how dare he belong to a church that is so anti-american. No wonder he doesn’t wear the american flag on his lapel and he doesn’t put his hand on his heart during the “Pledge of Allegiance.”

As an African American women, I don’t see the falseness in this message. The media portrays AA as less then equal. I don’t think White America really know how it feels to be an AA. We’re taught in this society, long hair is beaty. Lighter skin is beauty. Lighter eyes is beauty. And when you have most AA not fitting that mold, self esteem goes to play. We have hispanics and AA living in the toughest areas. Poverty is at its high. AA make up less then 14% of the population, however, AA men make up more then 50% of the men in prison. Discrimination against jobs. Everyday we have something to prove. And if an AA student is well in school she/he is “acting” white. There IS a double standard in this nation. If you’re ready to realize it….OKAY. If not, keep living in you fantasy world.

The good about all this that Americans will finally take serious issue with racism as an historical pillar of American society.
Last night during MSNBC’s show Live With Dan Abrahms, conservative commentator Pat Buchanan blew up on African American commentator Kelli Goff as she tried to point out the Clinton camp’s race-baiting.
What’s most startling is that he told this woman to SHUT UP on the air.
As fellow commentator Rachel Maddow pointed out, Buchanan hss been in numerous heated discussions with white commentators (most notably on NBC’s McLaughlin Group) and he’s NEVER told any of them to shut up.
And there still are MANY white Americans – such as among the Southern whites who I know well – who will say, as soon as a black man or woman raises his or her voice on injustice being done to black people in America: you SHUT UP!
And that, I’m afraid, explains all about pastor Wright’s anger and provocation tactics.
I’m a white man, and I DO think America needs to wake up. Barack Obama is the man who will start healing one of the deepest and still open wounds of this country.
Wright has opened his eyes for this wound; Obama is the one who will heal it, to the greater glory of our great country.

I am an African American. I know that Racism AND Sexism are both real problems in America. This is not a competition between them. If it were, I would lose twice.
There is nothing wrong with discussing and naming racism and sexism. There is something wrong with discriminating against people based on race and gender. These are two different practices, but the level of understanding and analysis is so low that we cannot tell the difference.
This race is over. Neither Clinton or Obama will win. McCain will be our next president.
Heartbreaking.

When I turn on my TV and look at the two young university students in the prime of their lives, now dead at the hands of AA men who for some unknown reason found on that fatal night they had do die, I really sometimes wonder what else does the AA community want from white America.
I did not see marches in the streets or the cries of lets get them but these two beautiful girls are gone now, parents left to mourn, and here I have to find some way to accept that and listen to this nonsense from a pastor saying white America is evil.
How can anyone justify that is beyond thinking, who wants to justify this should go asked those parents of those girls if they can accept and understand what AA always claim is so unfair to them.

Obama continues to be a member of this church, without apology or concern. This church preaches a docterine of hate as can clearly be seen on its own website. It glorifies The NAtiona of Islam and its leader, Farakhan.
Obama has been a member of this church for 20 years, so he must be ok with its teachings.
Rev Wright blessed his new home, bought with the help of Mr. Rezko, married the Obama’s and baptised their children.
Mr Obama obviously and undeniably revears this man’s teachings and it should be a concern to all Americans.
Not only are the Obama’s extremely proud of their church, one can hear the echos of its teachings in Michelle Obama’s speeches.
Hope is not what this church disseminates. Not by a long shot.
As I have said Mr. Obama continues to be a member of this church and use his membership on the campaign trail.
He obviously agrees with its doctrine.

I have heard many of Rev. Wright’s sermons over the past 10-15 years..Please don’t just judge the man of God by a couple of phrases from a couple of sermons without looking at the complete body of work..It’s truly amazing that people can pass judgement without first attempting to read the entire sermon..It’s easy for people (the media) to take a couple of lines and out of two or three sermons and determine that that’s what Rev. Wright’s entire ministry is about..If one would take the time to read, you would find that Rev. Wright is historically correct in his examples of America..No matter what the media would have you believe..In addition, why would anyone leave a church based in the truth and teaching the truth…

These comments are out of control. I thought Obama was supposed to be the man of compromise and bringing people together? This has nothing to do with health care, the economy, the war in iraq, home foreclosures, global warming, and our national security. Obama knows that if he stays off these topics and talks politics that people won’t ask him the tough questions. Now don’t get me wrong I believe that racist comments have NO place in politics. He is who he is no matter whether he is a man a women, yellow, red, orange, or GAY. It doesn’t matter what matters is what is best for this country and what will lead us to a better future!

ABC/Fox News should stop trying to bring negative views of other people in this presidential campaign. The Media has cross the line so many times during this presidential campaign that it is unreal. We need to hold the media accountable for a lot of the negative issues that face both Obama and Clinton. Please stop this negative smear. We need to discuss the issues this nation is facing. Have we forgotten what they are? This nation is in peril and distress. Can we even come together for the common good of this county, so we can elect a president a leader that is going to help this nation solve the difficult problems this nation has. What are we doing? Yes, Obama is black, yes, Hillary is a woman. What wrong with that? Don’t hate Obama because he’s black don’t hate Hillary because she’s a woman. Regardless what any of us think these two individuals have a desire to make this county better. And we as nation won’t let them, with our bias and distorted views. The media is feeding the flame to the public and we are taking the bait. This nation really looks bad we can’t appreciate an individual willing to take a position as President of the United States to better this nation, and hopefully answer the problems this nation has. What are we doing? I hate this stuff. Yes, I support one of these candidates but I want say which one, because enough negative and hateful comments have been said about both candidates to last us for a life time into eternity. I am shame of the county. We are doomed, because we refuse to be healed from the old bias and hatred this nation has had for century. I would not dare to speak evil of Obama; I would not dare to speak evil of Hillary or McCain. What will that solve, absolutely nothing? So why do we continue this America, Why? The news Media you ought to be a shame.

Thank God this is coming out before Barrack gets voted as the nominee or president. It is a free choice, a personal choice who we go to, who we select for spiritual guidance and motivation. Obama selected and continued to go to hear this man speak- preach- for 20 years! No one goes and listens to someone speak everyweek for 20 years if they did not agree with him or have his words strike a chord within as some truth. Obama and his campaign have been the divisive wedge in this campaign and we as a country need to turn away from this and walk away. We do not need to set the US back decades in all of the progress we have made in race relations. Thanks- but no thanks- Obama.

No one hates Obama because he is black the fact of the matter is he has some rather strange companions around him, who may have over the years shaped his way of thinking.
Obama is not a open book, no one knows anything about him so we all have to look and see who is associates are to paint a picture and so far 9 out of 10 seems to be people that you can say hmmmm about.

The final sermon from Rev Wright where he spews hatred of American and Bill Clinton happens on Jan. 13 right about the time the media were accusing Bill CLinton fo being Racist for saying Obama’s vote on Iraq was a fairy tale. I still don’t get how that remark is in any way shape or form racist, but Rev Wright can spew hatred with $20,000 a year support from the Obama’s with Obama sitting in the congregation calling him his spiritual leader and that’s ok. On Jan 13th.
NO reporting on that though. Got to love the MSM. I guess late is better than never to do your jobs.

Change, Obama style: Now that he and his supporters have pressured Ferraro to resign and smeared Clinton, Obama is saying her statements really weren`t racist. That is playing the race card with finesse. Don`t know about the Dems but we Indies are not buying it.

And Clinton doesn’t have strange supporters???
Do you share the same beliefs as some of your friends??? Do you guys ALWAYS agree???
I think the real situation is, Many Clinton supporters can’t grasp the fact the “inevitable” candidate is no longer going to be the democratic candidate. And because of this, any little comment said by a Obama supporter, they jump on it.

BTW
I agree of course on sexism being a scandalous and divisive force in American and world culture.
But there is a difference, and those who disagree are out of touch with reality. We’ve had apartheid in this country not that long ago, and it wasn’t aimed at women. We’ve told our police to chase people with dogs, to beat them, throw them in prison or shoot them down; and it wasn’t about women claiming women rights on our streets. I refrain from going further back in our history and tell the most shameful stories about white Americans’ abuse of black people. No need to do so, for we all know.
It’s easy to say that racism and sexism are both wrong, and that both play a problematic role in the current campaign. But there’s a different story of injustice, suffering, humiliation and pain for the two. I don’t agree with pastor Wright’s ideas, I don’t have to, but he sure reminds of a pain that is part of America’s soul, and I understand his anger and need in addressing it.

to all of you out there saying rev wright was justified in what he said let me remind you ,or better yet ask someone who was serving in the pacific during world war II that by dropping the nukes on hiroshima and nagasaki saved somewhere between 1 and 2 million american lives.so i say again obama could have voted against wright with his feet especially after the sermon n 9/11 and he did not.WAKE UP PEOPLE this and his association with ayers and dorhn should give you a cue of what he really thinks of the united states deep down in his heart.
Posted by: don tufts | March 13, 2008, 11:07 am 11:07 am
And not every white is the same as those of the KKK, not every white believe in white power, not every white is racist.
So those statements works both ways, that is exactly the point am called racist because I pointed out the killing of those two university students but what the pastor said is not racist he is free to say what he wants.
It works both ways people unfortunately some of you dont understand that.

I also find it extremely sad that people are confusing telling the truth about America’s actions as HATE…
Since when did it become wrong to simply lay out the history of America from the eyes of historians..
Since when did facts become taboo when talking about your’e own country..It’s sad that we as Americans are willing to believe that we’ve never done anything wrong..and then wonder why we are so hated across the world..
I refuse to believe that we are that naive to confuse telling the truth with being a traitor to your country…

Do the Obama’s bring their children to this church?
The language and the message is really not something apropriate for children.
If this were a school and this guy a teacher his license to teach would be revoked.
ABC news has left out some of the most offensive statements, just so people know.
This church does not preach a message of Hope or love or tolerance. It preaches hate. And the Obama’s do bring their children there and in my opinion that is questionable judgement.
Posted by: s.b. | March 13, 2008, 11:11 am 11:11 am
Obama just lost my vote. He has stated that he has judgment. Hillary did not use judgment when voting on the war resolution. However, Obama has been a member and supporting this hate mongering church for 20 years??? NOT GOOD JUDGMENT! Those lower tiered Democratic candidates should have stayed in the race. I hope the next primary has a uniform primary election on the same day and each state has the same number of candidates(not 2) so this primary fiasco will never happen again.

You know what I wonder, if the African American’s were voting for Hillary in the numbers they are voting for Obama would this race bating stuff even be an issue? Obama earned everything he is standing for today and nothing was handed to him. People in this country know that the black man has been handed nothing more than a hard way to go so how could this man have been handed anything? He had to earn the black vote just as he did the white. It’s a bad thing blacks are supporting Obama because we have crossed the line and they are not staying in their place right? They are cool as long as they stay in their place and do what they are told? Hillary ran a bad campaign and that is the gist of it. She thought the nomination would be handed to her and walked with arrogance never acknowledging that there was a young man out on the street building a grass roots campaign that was about to explode! No one has been beating up on Hillary, Hillary beat up on Hillary spitting out all of that hate and venom and then she twists her negative games to play the victim. I don’t see where the media gave her a hard way to go, I see both Obama and Hillary get bruised in the media. So why is it so wrong to have a black man as president? You say you are not racist but you can not fathom this as an inevitable right? It is time to move forward and heal a very wounded nation or we will see ourselves in a 100 year war with 15 year olds getting drafted by McCain if we do not stop this bickering. Democrats are supposed to be a united front with all races together, can we please begin to behave this way instead of dividing the races. You divided the Latinos, the blacks and the whites but we are all supposed to be a united front? It’s time that we behaved that this is a united front! Obama is winning because he worked for it from the ground up! Nothing was handed to him and you people know it! Can we please stop arguing and move forward? May the best man or woman win fair and square!

You can’t denounce and reject someone’s words, teachings and doctrine and then continue to be a member of this church. The sermon being quoted was preached on Jan 13th of this year, when the media was so busy going after Bill Clinton and accusing him of racism for saying that Obama’s voting record on Iraq was a fairy tale???????
Jan 13th this year!!!! That’s not rejecting and denouncing, that’s supporting and agreeing with. The obama’s also take their children to hear this hatred and foul language and give this so called church about $20,000 a year to spread this message of hate.

I’m sorry if ABC news were even handed this sermon of hate with the Obama’s and their children sitting in the pews would have been reported Jan 14th, the day after it happened.
They were too busy attacking Bill Clinton. The only reason why they are reporting it now is because FOX news is.

Obama has some really interesting “supporters”. Comments reported today, including blaming America for the Trade Center attacks, have made up my mind. I will NOT vote for Obama. I don’t like the other candidates, either, but Obama is beginning to scare me.

Growing up in the south, many of my class mates parents were staunch racist. This did not stop my peers & I from formulating profound friendships. Geraldine & Pastor Wright are entitled to their opinions and their views are not expressed by neither Hillary nor Barack. They have each rejected, denounced & repunated these people’s opinions. Now, can we focus on the real issues that concerns Americans?

You have three Choices vote for Sen. Obama and hope for the best as we did with Bill Clinton, vote for Sen. Clinton and may be lose the general election because republicans hate her with a passion, vote for Sen. McCain and stay in Iraq till hell freezes over plus Sen. McCain has an Evangelical Pastor that hates Catholics and no one is complaining. Is a Catholic a lesser being? Or do we have to accept what that pastor said because of his political affiliation or race? I’m really tired of all this bickering. What type of election year are we having? I can’t wait for all this to be over. One way or the other it might not change our situation in America, it might end up making things worse or little bit better.

I want answers from Mr. Obama, not answers from the Obama camp “Puppets” that are talking for him.
Come on Mr. Axelrod, let Obama speak for himself. We want answers!!!!!!!!
“How dare you Mr. Obama for donating $2,000.00 a month for 2o years of your life sitting in a church every sunday listening to a preacher that denounces America.
Yes, $2,000.00 a month to listen to a radical, racist preacher whom is blamiong America and us “WHITES” for all their problems. (Now keep in mind you bloggers, this speech is not from 1964, this speech is from January,2008. )
I thought we had gone beyond the racial divides.
Mr. Obama just let your preacher continue blaming us for everything. But it is black and “WHITE” soilders that are fighting for our country andvhas fought in many, many wars to give you and your “PRECIOUS” preacher the freedom you and him and your wife and children have today.
I do not believe I want you <Mr. Barack Hussein Obama, answeering the phone at 3:00am.

Why do you use the words “African American”? I do not describe myself as “White American”. Why can’t we be just Americans? If you who wish to continue in using these type of divisions then do not be suprised when these divisions continue. It is one thing to remember where you came from, your past, and those who bore the burdens so you can have the future you have. Those are admirable things to do. But if you don’t strive for a better future for all then you have spit in the eye of all those who fought those battles. This applies to all races and until race is no longer seen then we will fight this battle till the end of days.

In his book ‘Dreams of my father” he writes about a very close friend that he also refers to as a father, whom is named “Frank”. Now it comes to light that this frank is “Frank Mitchell Davis”, an Old Coummnist Member of USA.
According to Obama’s book it was Frank that led him to politics.
Where is Mr. Obama finding all these radical individuals.

All I see here is buying into Hillary’s strategy to mislead Democrats from focusing on the necessary changes needed to tackle our most urgent issues by having this constant tone of bickering — which hurts the entire Democratic party, drowns out all productive discussion, and stamps out any sense of hopefulness in an attempt to invent controversy – to keep it rolling.

This is the worst thing I have ever heard and to think we might be electing a president who cannot admit he is white too and only acknowledges his black 50% what will he do or lie about for the rest of his terms. He is making this an issue by letting people talk like his pastor and his not mentioning as much that he is an American white and black but an American. What is
America becoming when this is even a possibility. I would want to leave our country if Barak Obama is elected president. Oprah and Barak should leave this country and go to Africa since that is the card they are playing.I’m so happy they go to church and listen to such hatred as this. The audacity of Obama to give this man a role in his campaign is shocking. With all the anti-American and prejudicial teachings of Wright it is just “wrong-headed’ and ‘ridiculous’. Will he denounce and reject and ask for a resignation? Not likely – it seems he is rewarding him by giving him a role knowing the beliefs of this man. Obama surrogate? Simply shocking. Wake up America! Take off the rose-colored glasses and read the facts. Obama once again shows poor judgement and that is what he states his claim to fame shall be?

I disagree with the resignations of Samantha Powers, Geraldine Ferraro, et al in these campaigns, but if Senator Obama has set the precedence where this type of stuff has no place in his campaign, then it seems reasonable to have Rev. Wright follow Ferraro’s lead and recuse himself of his post on the African American Religious Leadership Committee.

OBAMA’s surrogate, this preacher, needs to be reigned in. If Obama has any executive class whatsoever he will say publcly that that man does not speak for me and my philosophy. I’m supporting Clinton but do not want to see Obama end up as damaged goods. This kind of stuff makes it so there cannot even be a CLINTON/OBAMA ticket because he will be too damaged. It would be a MAGIC TICKET, unless America begins to characterize OBAMA as a rascist of the same type as this preacher.

Hillary Clinton is a member of a prayer group that consists of some of the most conservative members of Congress. This includes people who espouse views on a woman’s right to chose, stem cell research, and gay rights that are the opposite of Hillary Clinton’s stated views. I am an Obama supporter, but I do not think for a second that her chosing to worship with these people means she agrees with them on matters of personal choice. The Reverend Wright is not the issue. The reason the Janaury 13th sermon was not covered in the media is that Bill Clinton is a former POTUS and a major supporter of Hillary Clinton. Reverend Wright is not a major national or political figure so he is not the object of media scrutiny. I really think that it is time that attention be focused on issues not what makes for the catchiest headline. Also, I am sure that Mr. Tapper knows that titles in a campaign are pretty meaningless. As Geraldine Ferraro pointed out, being co-chair of the Clinton NY finance committee, really meant nothing with regard to her relationship with the campaign. Why doesn’t someone investigate how either of these candidates plans to actually pay for their health care plans or some other substantive issue?

Shame on ABC News. I am not even an Obama supporter, but I clearly see through this as an attempt by the media to create controversy. How can anyone with an iota of common sense hold Senator Obama responsible for what his pastor or anyone else says. if we are going to have this standard, then lets start looking at all the demeaning, racist, sexist and bigoted remarks that spew out of the mouths of everyone that any politician has come in contact with in his/her political career. Utterly absurd, and shame on ABC News for even suggesting either overtly or covertly that what Dr. Wright has said has any bearing on Senator Obama’s thoughts, ideas and even more important, his policy stances.

This is now what exactly what Hillary wants…about race.
I don’t care what color Obama is…I wouldn’t care if he’s green. The question is….can he be our leader. He certainly has leadership qualities…my question at this point is do i want to go where he’s leading us? This can only be answered by examining his policies…not his skin color or the remarks of his overwrought pastor.
If you take the war out of the equation what policies are left to discuss and how will they affect our country?

Gender and race has become the only way the Clintons have got to attack Obama. Obama NEVER brings this topics up; contrary to Hillary and her surrogates who do that constantly. Her tactics of “beat and apologize” has tended to work for some time, but it is becoming transparent to more and more people. Even Democrats leaders do not buy it anymore (see Sen. Polosi, Gov. Richardson, et). HER LAST DAYS ARE CLOSE.

Disgusting. Can you imagine if a the pastor of a predominatly white congregation blasted an AA candidate? The denunciation would be swift and deafening. This is just another blatant attempt by a BO surrogate to “shore up the base” by cynically playing the race card.
Just like the “bamboozle” “okiedoke” imitation of Malcolm X that BO weaves into speeches in the deep south w/ AA audiences.
Just like Sharpton threatening violence in the streets if BO isn’t given the nomination.
Just like Jesse Jackson Jr threatening AA SDs.

Please people wake up, If Obama is the nominee the Reps. will make mince meat of him. I read on a Rep. site that Rove is running Mcains campaign from the background. No, Mrs Clinton cannot help if other fellow worshipers have different views. However, in Obama’s case, he has chosen this particular pastor to marry him and Michelle,Baptized their children, sit through his sermons along with his children during the last 20 years, praise Farrahkan, and contribute thousands to his church. Obama has alot of explaining to do over his judgement.

If White people feel guilty when they hear Rev. Wright’s words then you perhaps do hold contempt in your heart and are intollerent. Since when is being critical of America racist. He uses the phrase ‘we’ a lot when reffering to America, meaning WE the people of America voted these individuals into elected office. We are responsible for OUR countries actions. That’s right he’s calling out black people too. It’s called holding America to the standards that it has set for it’s self. I’M NOT APPOLOGIZING IF A SPADE IS A SPADE. This country has been built on the backs of black people, so what if I’m pissed off if I can’t get a cab. Oh and gve me a break, if we made a list of murders committed against white women I’m positive you will find a whole lot more white men on that list then black.

We dont choose who are uncles are and most of us dont give them $22,000 per year to promote their message.
Mr Obama obviously agrees with waht this man says, takes his children to hear it and gives this man money to promote it.

Looks like ole Al is up to his old tricks.
That decision drew a sharp rebuke on Wednesday from the Rev. Al Sharpton , the black political leader in New York and a former presidential candidate, who questioned whether Mrs. Clinton’s campaign was keeping the issue alive as a way to win white votes in Pennsylvania.
In addition to Ms. Ferraro’s remark, Mr. Sharpton cited Mrs. Clinton’s decision not to fire her top ally in Pennsylvania, Gov. Edward G. Rendell , for saying in February that some white voters there were “probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate.”
“When you hear the lack of total denunciation of Ferraro, when you hear Rendell saying there are whites who will never vote for a black, one has to wonder if the Clinton campaign has a Pennsylvania strategy to appeal to voters on race,” Mr. Sharpton said in an interview. “I would hope Mrs. Clinton would make it clear that she is not doing that.”
Although Mr. Obama did not directly call on Ms. Ferraro to quit the campaign finance committee, his aides worked to keep the issue alive. They set up a conference call with reporters to draw attention to the comment.

Wright has been retired since Feb. 10th. Funny – to dig it out now the day after another controversy. This story might be able to keep the divisiveness rolling, but it’s a vicious cycle to invent controversy each and every day. It tends to stray from journalism – or at least what once was journalism.

Well about time people started talking about his church and religion, it has been kept in the dark so long. The minute Romney announced the media attacked hi religion.
This is very important because it puts in perspective of Who Barack Hussein Obama is, why he is not proud of this Country, why he can not where a Flag or say the Pledge of Alliegence, it shows how racist he is and how anti-american he is.
2+2=4 people, he says that this preacher once a muslim is his spiritual leader and basis for his beliefs means he believes what the preacher says. there is no hiding it!

Well this is the problem when one takes someones own words and uses them against them. It appears that the Obama people after getting their pound of flesh yesterday are condeming the outrage today. I guess it depends on whos goat is getting goard.

It makes no difference what color you are, religion you practice,or your sex. If a person who is running for President of the U.S. of America, or any political office for that matter, cannot say the Pledge of Allegiance and cannot honor the Flag of the U.S.A., then they have no business running the country for which it stands. People need to have RESPECT for themselves, each other and their country. Proud to be an American, White, Female, Married to an USA Air Force veteran.

The Obama’s have gone to this church and supported it for twenty years. They obviously condone its message. They give around 20,000 per year to this church that supports the NAtion of ISlam and Mr. Farakhan. Its interesting that Mr. obama claims to denounce the teachings of Farakhan but gives significant amounts of money to a church that supports the Nation of Isalm.
20 years is a long time. You know people are welcome to have their own beliefs and there are even stranger beliefs out there, but when someone is running for President of the United States, that person’s beliefs and a message of hate incorporated and indivisible from those beliefs, put forward by that person’s church are an issue.
20 years is a long time, and 20 G per year to support the message of this pastor and this church is a lot of money.

Shelgirl: The problem for Mr. Obama is that he says he is a different politician. Now we hear all the hate that Rev. Wright is preaching and if he fails to denounce it as he has asked Hillary to do then what are we to assume about his sincerity to his commitment not to allow this kind of talk by individuals in his campaign?
Posted by: russell | March 13, 2008, 1:04 pm 1:04 pm
Mark, you hit it right on — Olbermann would never do a Special Commentary on this or any other story that could reflect poorly on Obama. When Obama, his wife or one of his surrogates says anything negative or controversial, the MSM goes out of their way to “explain” what they “really” meant, etc. Anyone supporting Clinton is immediately skewered, regardless of what was really said and intended.

I had my doubts about Obama the minute I heard he would not wear the Flag. Why? What are his true intentions? Seems that those answers are comming out now. Obama has been brainwashed into hating America from his church pastor.

Unfortunately for Obama, his connection (and, yes, it is a political association, as well as a personal one) with Rev. Wright is a huge liability. I don’t know what the solution is, but the problem is not going to go away.

russel and fakebama, the downside with this media-controlled game of “turnabout is fair play”, and fierce, eye-for-an-eye divisiveness is the abandonment of issues. Issues such as ending the war and its devastation of the economy, health care, the imbalance caused by Bush tax cuts get lost from the discussion. Now that’s perhaps a “kitchen sink” strategy by the Clinton campaign to get ahead, but this puts the Democratic party way behind, as McCain raises cash and his numbers.

This coming from a man who works with Matthews who made sexist comments about Hillary and Shuster comments about pimping out their daughter. Burns: It seems that it is the Obama campaign who gets to dictate when and where to use race as a weapon. They have called Hillary out because of a stupid statement by Ferraro and she has resigned. Now we are calling out the so called Rev. Wright on his outrageous statements and we will be waiting to see if Obama lives up to the standards that they pushed yesterday and assures america that he is no longer a part of his campaign.
Posted by: russell | March 13, 2008, 1:18 pm 1:18 pm
Olbermann is a coward.
To say that Ferraro is speaking with Senator Clinton’s approval is absurd. That’s like saying Senator Obama agrees with Farrakhan’s extremely unfavorable views of Jews because he has not boldly rejected and denounced some of the views of Rev. Wright.
If he wants to play the “guilty by association” game, then he needs to cut it both ways.

Well, shegirl, as a Native American I too can call on the “truth” as I want to see it, right? I can say I do believe blacks played an equal part in the killing of my people as whites. I can even remind you of another truth that thousands and thousands of “WHITE” people died to “FREE” the black man from slavery. Have you forgotten so soon? It seems like Wright forgot everything that is good about America and chooses to attack Hillary who did this man no wrong. He says Bill Clinton did good for the black man AND then goes right on to attack him in the next breath? Bill Clinton did no wrong to this man yet you do not CHOOSE to find any wrong with Mr Wright’s statements and instead you CHOSE to use the race card to try to shut people down? Why?

In the meantime, while people are bickering over pastors and sexes, more relevant information is up.
A comprehensive, nation-wide SurveyUSA poll shows Barack Obama defeating John McCain in a hypothetical match-up by a margin of 280 electoral votes to 256. Obama carries 24 states plus the District of Columbia. In Nebraska, which divides its electoral votes based on congressional districts, McCain wins three electoral votes while Obama wins two.
Of the states which McCain is currently predicted to carry, the race is extremely close in Texas (47%-46%), Florida (47%-45%), North Carolina (47%-45%) and South Carolina (48%-45%). And with Barack as the Democratic candidate, nearly every state west of the Mississippi could be in play.
A wide range of recent polls show Barack Obama increasing his lead in a potential general election match-up against John McCain.
At the same time, McCain leads when matched up against Hillary Clinton. Nationally, Barack Obama now leads John McCain by an average of 4.2% in the most recent head-to-head polls, while Senator Clinton trails.
An ABC/Washington Post poll released yesterday shows Obama with a commanding 12% lead over McCain.
Amidst all the perceptions, it can be worthwile to have a look at the facts that matter. The math, so to say.

The poster on this site obviously have not attended church where the pastor tells you you are gouing to hell if you don’t straighten up. The pastor of Barack’s church simply sais the same thing. America has backed many ruthless dictators and despots, and was created on oppression of all who did not the definition of AMERICAN: native amaerican, african-american, irish-american, mexican-american, asian-american, and yes, the acts we did overseas undoubtedly led to our being targeted for terroristic attacks, just just bush’s war has not made us safer, just destroyed a sovereign nation and left it much more worse off. The only ones that profited would be the ones that instigated the war. They have been making off with the Nation’s treasure hand over fist, and you republicans think that is just peachy keen. We’re in a recession due to bush and his pitiful policies. And all you all can come up with is to denigrate a pastor who is simply telling it like it is… you blind folks can’t get the beam out of your eye while criticizing the mote in someone’s else’s.

Suzi – Clinton tends to have supporters of all religions including those of no religion. She is the only candidate that is keeping religion out of her campaign as much as possible. She believes in the separation of church and state and I agree with her. Obama professes to be a constitutional professor yet he is not keeping them separate.

Mat Math – good job looking at facts but there are polls that show results different than you stated. All in all, the polls considered the most valid show dead heat between Clinton and Obama with Clinton gaining more of the lead and both of them slightly in the lead over McCain. Much has changed over the course of time and it will continue. What matters most is not the polls… the nomination process is what matters… voters, delegates, and superdelegates in both parties.

What is the difference between vetting and swiftboating? So, John Kerry did not have the vetting test? Does Hillary tell you folks to administer a bunch of tests? There was the CIC (commander-in-chief) Test, now the vetting test, racial test, and what else suckers? Ain’t these all just a sign of desparation from a losing Hillary camp? Whining, crying, accusing and blaming, and at the end, justifying them under some banner of tests? Crazy and slimy!
Posted by: Mandy | March 13, 2008, 1:52 pm 1:52 pm

That explains why Obama does not place his right hand on his heart when the National anthem plays. That shows the influence of his pastor right there.
When Farraro says something about Obama, both Obama and his campaign jumped all over her.
When you live in a glass house, it’s a bad idea to throw rock at others. May be Obama pastor forgot to preach that to Obama.

There is no indication this was prompted by the Clinton campaign. IN fact, the story broke when FOX news (a republican leaning news source) unearthed details. I would bet the RNC machine is behind that push if anyone was. But you know its all politics and irrelevant who sourced it. Facts are facts and the voters are entitled to hear facts and participate in the vetting of all candidates.
Posted by: DCVoter | March 13, 2008, 2:06 pm 2:06 pm
definition of Vetting – A thorough and diligent review of a prospective person or project prior to a hiring or investment decision.
definition of swiftboating – A group formed for the purpose of opposing John Murtha’s reelection to Congress, Vets for the Truth, involving made up falsehoods, featherman, etc. American political jargon for an ad hominem attack usually resulting in a benefit to an established political force.

russel, if this is all the evidence provided that Wright is involved, but there’s nothing to show where he spoke of behalf of Obama’s campaign, or raised money like Ferraro, this seems like quite a reach to invent controversy by the media by connecting the two – that is, outside the church. Obama has stated on the stump that he stands for separation of church and state. And I see no confusion whether Wright is involved in the campaign, as he is certainly not. Perhaps, like I’ve heard from somewhere, this is silly season – controversy for controversy’s sake.

Obama not privileged? Give me a break. Obama’s mother and grandparents sent him to the best schools. Both he and his wife went to Harvard as minorities courtesy of American taxpayers. Mrs. Obama was admitted even though her ACT test scores were too low (by her OWN ADMISSION). They make close to a million dollars a year, live in a 2 million dollar house, their kids go to the Chicago University’s prestigious Lab school that costs $20,000/yr per kid. And Wright has the audacity to call him underprivileged? So what if he was a “black boy raised by a single parent.” Soo was Bill Clinton. Obama CANNOT pledge allegiance or honor the American flag. He honors the flag (black, red and green) of the pro-Africa movement that hangs in his and his mentor’s church (which, by the way, is the continuation of the “Black Power” movement). Obama has been committed to the “commandments” of his church and to the country of their choice for the past 20 years and it IS NOT AMERICA. It is AFRICA. If this country owes anything to anybody it is to the AMERICAN INDIANS who have been wiped off the continent that was theirs.

How does this church hold its nonprofit status? My church wouldn’t even think of making any political statements from the pulpit or they’d have their nonprofit status taken away. Oh, but my church is predominately white and we don’t have the same privileges as an African-American church.
These comments from this pastor are nothing new for this church. Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theology that started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology. According to Dr. Cone’s books, Black Power means “complete emancipation of Black people from white oppression by whatever means Black people deem necessary.” “Black theology will accept only a love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy.”
I think it’s time for Barack to RESIGN.

NO!NO!NO!Obama needs to get him out of his campaign effective immediately! Who died and made this so called man (Wright)God? I personnally despise anybody that speaks about my country, which I love, to that extreme. If that is what he thinks about the United States then send him and all his baggage to where his kind reside. There’s no place for him or his here. Obama always has an excuse to cover for the idiotic things his campaign does or say. Is this what we are facing if he is elected president? Are we not going through hell right now with Bush? Are we strong enough as a nation to say, enough is enough? Obama is only going to make it worse as his supporters (blacks) are going to expect something in return for supporting him. We will face a crisis worse than the one we have now. Obama is not the kind of person that knows how to fight his own battles and take punches, he has people doing it for him. Then when he does get punched, he whines like a baby and expects sympathy. Not much of an example of a man to me.

Truth be told, I’ve heard my own mother say some things that have made me cringe. I’m not going to “denounce” and “reject” her, though.
I am sure Obama is conflicted by some of the things he hears coming out of his pastor’s mouth, because I’m sure there are some pretty powerfully positive things being said in that church as well.
Still, when Obama is President (in less than one year!), he’s going to have to put some distance there. I suspect he’ll find that there are other pastors with whom he won’t feel that he has to take the bad with the good.

I don’t find what Rev. Wright says particularly surprising. I also don’t find people’s negative reaction surprising. The gospel is far more radical than what we hear in most of our churches on Sunday morning. We’ve domesticated Jesus, toning down his counter cultural and non-violent message. For many, merely saying “God Damn America” is incendiary. But, when he says this after listing numerous ways that we as a country continue to choose violence as our path to presumed freedom, the point Rev. Wright makes is more to shame America for taking the wrong path. Go back and read the prophets from the Old Testament, they frequently say things that call for the destruction of their own people (the Israelites) at the hand of God because Israel (the people, not the state) has been disobedient. This is an incredibly Biblical thing the Rev. Wright is saying. The Israelites worshiped false idols and the prophets called them on it. Rev. Wright is saying that America is worshiping the false idol of violence, both in 9/11 and in the treatment of tens of thousands in our penal system, and that we should turn from our wrong path. While this sounds political, we should understood that Blacks in America are in some ways like the Israelites of Jesus’ day. They’re both minorities in dominating cultures. Both have histories of being oppressed and of struggling to find their identity. Rev. Wright is firmly in the line of prophets calling for justice for the oppressed, for faithfulness to God, and of the hope we have in God, who will bring all this about in God’s kingdom now and in the time to come. We Christians should be rightly concerned that patriotism not be misunderstood as faithfulness. As the commandments say, “you shall have no other god before me.” Sadly, too many of our churches function like country clubs proffering a Jesus who appeals to the status quo by offering reassurances of salvation to those who continue to worship at the altars of the world.

toby you are missing the point – this man is a surrogate for Obama, has a position in his campaign, is spouting things that Obama said have no place in either campaign, yet is not denouncing, rejecting, and asking for a resignation yet he expected and pressured Clinton to do that to her surrogates… and this surrogate along with his own wife have said much worse than any of the Clinton surrogates… he is a hypocrit and is showing more bad judgement

But your right, teaching our children about being black in America is ‘bad judgement’. We should leave that to Paris Hilton cause she’s for Africa n’ stuff.

United Methodist Pastor – While you make some valid statements, by identifying yourself as a pastor, I find it disturbing that you violate the spirit of the constitution regarding the separation of church and state by implying we should be using the Bible to guide our governing.
Aside from the illegal political content in his sermons and the anti-American and prejudicial doctrine, as a pastor do you think it is appropriate for Obama to expose his children to sexual gestures Wright uses in his speeches about Bill Clinton’s indiscretion and that Wright uses obscene language in his sermons?
This is not an all adult church!

Could you be kind enough to post the interview that was held this morning by GMA? You know, the Obama adviser who was brought on by the GMA Anchor to talk about this NONE-issue really made the Anchor look like a total fool. If I was an ABC manager he & the producer would loose their job or at least suffer a demotion. In this competetive media age, such lack of strategy & foresight can be very telling.

Pastor Wright says the chickens came home to roost on 9-11. We are witnessing the chickens come home to the Democratic party. Decades of cultivating constituencies based on race, ethnicity, and gender make their supporters identify with their candidates on the most personal level. Now they are hopelessly deadlocked by identity politics.
This is very divisive and bad for our country, has the potential to set race relations back 40 years. I am much more upset about that larger situation caused by the Democratic party than any of pastor Wright’s comments. The Democrats may lose the election over this and the MI, FL problem, but the racial divisions exposed and inflamed by this primary will be with us for a long time.

my gosh how many people go to church to look at the statues? How many of us go and to the church just to go. People wven in his Book , Obama claims to have found his spiritual leader in this man. He has been part of his sheep for over 20 years. If he says he doesn’t believe in the words that this man is preaching, then he is a straight up liar.
Even funnier is that white guy who came on the news from Obamas camp and says to look at Obamas speaches to see what he believes in…. Does he mean the plagerised speaches? The ones he didn’t write? Or the ones that are written for him by another person? can someone shed some light on that?

How many of you Obama supporters realize that this pastor has been a major influence on Senator Obama’s life. Do you not think that Senator Obama believes in many of the things that his pastor said? Honestly, if you dont agree with the views of your pastor, then you shouldn’t be going to his church!!!!

Wright is a political liability – no doubt.
But this isn’t a simple issue. Churches have no right to dictate the way members vote. Catholic priests should not denounce candidates based on pro-choice positions from the pulpit. National reporters should not write posts and then suggest that they be sent to the pro-Israeli donors. But does separation of church and state mean that MLK should not have led the March on Washington? The civil rights movement and black churches cannot be separated. There has been powerful work done through black churches by coalitions with preachers, academics, everyday people, old ladies… I’ve seen it. It’s saved lives. Why don’t reporters find out what the Trinity Unity Church of Christ has done for the community of Chicago’s south side?

It seems he retired just a month ago – is Obama just waking up to the fact that Rev Wright is a liability (as he drives around in his luxury car)?
By the way, what’s his retirement package – and where did the money come from – I’m thinking one or many of Obama’s wealthy supporters who thought it was timely for Rev. Wright to make his exit. Please follow up on this – who paid him to leave?

Rev. Wright was retired in February. His
sermon left me stunned. As one who has
gone to and been a member of black
church communities, I did not get a ssense of healing of his message. There
was vitriol and a tearing down of the
Clinton. A divisive regard about the llarger society “us-vs-them”, blacks against whites. He only equates a lack
of power in society in racial terms, as
as many have, they will say, “women
weren’t lynched…”. History shows thru
today, that regardless of color, economic status, and background, women have had their powerlessness impressed
upon them via crimes of rape, domestic
violence and acquaintence rape.
When Bill Clinton was elected President,
he ran on the politics of inclusion.
Sen.Clinton has worked diligently in all
areas for the benefit of the American
people. It was somewhat inevitable that
having “a woman and a black man” as the
last two challengers for the nomination
would raise sensitivities. Our focus
needs to be who is going to be best on
helping us acheive the promise of the
future while providing the security our
country needs during this critical time.

DCVoter – I have made no statement, implied or otherwise, about the separation of church and state. As it was appropriate for the prophets to condemn their oppressor, so should it be appropriate for a pastor in a sermon, particularly one serving a minority community like Rev. Wright, to speak against policies of the United States believed to be damaging or immoral.
I think it’s inappropriate to categorize Rev. Wright’s statements as “anti-American.” If anything, they call America and it’s people to be a better country. That seems like the kind of thing patriots can support.
About other things that Rev. Wright says or does, really that’s the judgment of his church’s board of elders and I’m not interested in speculating or in indulging in sensationalism. I can say that I don’t think the separation of church and state should be interpreted to limit religious speech.
It seems more appropriate to ask church/state questions to the candidate and not of his pastor. To my knowledge, Barack Obama has not repeated these statements or instituted policy positions that demand the religious observance of anyone. I don’t believe this can be said of all the candidates in this race.
So to return to what I believe were my original “valid statements,” Rev. Wright is firmly within the prophetic tradition of Christianity. Jesus was not a milquetoast savior. Criticizing America for where it fails to be what it could be should never be called unpatriotic.
Further, I think, efforts to focus on the tone/style/manner in which something is said, rather than the core point being made in the full context of a rich and varied tradition, are efforts to obfuscate, misdirect, and manipulate. The core argument here is one that calls us to a hopeful and better America for all Americans. That’s something we should support, even if it means we must say “damn” to those parts of our selves and of our country that keep us from becoming greater than we are right now.

United Methodist Pastor: You are very eloquent in your posts. I do have one question. It is sounding like you are condoning the type of racist and sexist and offensive and inappropriate speech coming from Pastor Wrights pulpit.
Is that actually the case? Do you condone this type of sermon? I am a born again Christian, and I attend many churches, including Baptists, black churches etc.. If I heard this type of sermon coming from any Pastor, I would immediately walk out and never attend that church again.

I am an immigrant, and have lived in America for 19 years. If people hate this country so much, I mean pastor Wright, why don’t you leave? Why do you use all the perks in this country and preach that America should be Damned? What do you know about a really bad life? Immigration works both ways, you know, you can leave! I know, that if I don’t agree with my spiritual leader, I wouldn’t have been listening to him for 20 years. NOBAMA 2008!

You know….there are different ways to approach issues…Michelle Obama, a well educated and well paid woman complains about not being proud of the country in which she lives a very nice life. Maybe she really has been listening to her Pastor complain too much.
And then there are people like Condi Rice…well educated, well paid who doesn’t whine about what color she is – she just does her best like anyone who wants to get ahead. She’s hardly the only one.
I personally am half hispanic/half Anglo Saxon but look more Hispanic. SO WHAT? I had a business and the government wanted to force us to hire quotas but my opinion was I didn’t care if a person was green or purple – they’d be hired since to be competitive we had to hire the best for the job.
I’m SICK of all this categorizing by race…on BOTH sides. Problem is, the politicians like to do it, to pit one group against another, slice and dice, exploit the differences, so they can get more votes. The Clintons have done this regularly. On the other hand we have this Pastor…I suppose in some ways he felt it advantageous to his career to spend a lot of time complaining – just like Sharpton and Jackson. The whole thing is disgusting.

Um…separation of Church and State. Well apparently Obama does believe in doing whatever it takes, read on:Here’s a passage from the story in the Chicago Tribune about Obama.
“Obama knows his way around a ballot Some say his ability to play political hardball goes back to his first campaign
By David Jackson and Ray Long | Tribune staff reporters April 3, 2007
A close examination of Obama’s first campaign clouds the image he has cultivated throughout his political career: The man now running for president on a message of giving a voice to the voiceless first entered public office not by leveling the playing field, but by clearing it.
‘Why say you’re for a new tomorrow, then do old-style Chicago politics to remove legitimate candidates?’ Askia said. ‘He talks about honor and democracy, but what honor is there in getting rid of every other candidate so you can run scot-free? Why not let the people decide?’
In a recent interview, Obama granted that ‘there’s a legitimate argument to be made that you shouldn’t create barriers to people getting on the ballot.’
But the unsparing legal tactics were justified, he said, by obvious flaws in his opponents’ signature sheets. ‘To my mind, we were just abiding by the rules that had been set up,’ Obama recalled. (Whatever it takes, right Obama? No wonder you and your supporters say it so much. Too much protest is always suspicious…..)

Obama cannot win the General election period! He can only win states that McCain will win in the fall. That is a fact.
I find it despicable that Obama continues to unite his heart and soul to a church whose pastor is filled with filth and the most racial sinful hatred vile deplorable ideologies I have ever heard. For him to say “God damn America” and for him to say to the families whose loved one died on 9/11 because they deserved it is inhuman and heartless. Obama has yet to denounce his pastor and renounce his membership from that church. The fact he hasn’t done so, tells the American people that he is accepting of this kind of belief. Obama shows that he has the same demeaning views of Americans when he does not put his hand on his heart during the national anthem, when he plans to support Africa more than the United Sates, when he schemes to divide blacks and whites, when he continues to support and attend a church that is dripping with hate and black supremacy.
Let this be a warning to us that Obama cannot and will never devote his life for America. 20 yrs attending a church where he has given his alms, his life, his spiritual devotion, his soul to all the vile beliefs that this cult perpetuates. It is deplorable!!
Obama is a shame to the American people. And yet there are still ignorant people who will think it’s nothing it’s just his pastor who thinks this way…. If they know anything about a church where you go to worship and be blessed — this fills your heart and soul and drives the way you think and view the world. If this is what Obama is feeding on and allowing his children to feed on all they will know and react to is the hatred and vile and disgrace and dehumanizing ideologies that will translate into Obama’s policies and laws if he becomes president.
No wonder Michelle says she is only now proud of America – it was in her heart so it came out it slipped but we know the truth – she doesn’t have to explain herself why he hates America so much! She is Jezebel in disguise.

Anyone who condones the sermon that this pastor gives might as well say they are not proud of the United States as Michelle Obama did. It is very obvious that this pastor preaches hatred towards anyone who isn’t black! There is no ifs ands or buts about it. I am sick of always hearing that we, white america, are racist anytime we speak negatively of a person of color. We could say he isn’t qualified to lead, and it would be labeled as racist. We could say he doesn’t know how to speak, we would be racist. We can say he isn’t ready to be Commander in Chief, yet we are racist. Then you have people like Pastor Wright saying WHITE AMERICA is the reason 9/11 happened, guess what he is just speak a sermon. Where is the racist in that? HMMMM YOU TELL ME? Racist goes both ways my friends, and this pastor is beyond racist! And we are sitting here saying Senator Obama doesn’t believe or agree with these things? He has been a member of this church for 20 years. If he doesn’t agree, then why go to this church? Oh wait, guess that makes me racist now! Of course that is what his church would say!
This election has unfortunately brought the race card up. Sure you can say both sides have done it, but it seems more and more that the Obama campaign keeps digging it back up and accusing the Clinton campaign of starting it. But isn’t it a reality by them bringing it up they are, in fact, causing the furor? We should be looking at the issues and qualifications of each candidate and not the color of their skin! I would vote for a black man in a heartbeat if I felt he had the qualifications to lead this country. I don’t care whether he is white, black, green, yellow, orange or purple. All I care is that he has a record showing his ability to lead!
Posted by: Brian | March 13, 2008, 5:45 pm 5:45 pm
The Clinton campaign played the race card the way the Bush campaign used the Swift Boat ad. How long did it take for the race issue to turn into an inferno? And who is fueling the fire? The press. Do I think that any pastor should be on a presidential political committee? Not sure. Based on the link, there were hundreds of pastors on that committee. Do I think that we should elect our presidents based on religious conversion or affiliation? No.
But if religion is a viable issue, the press should give equal coverage to all candidates, including John McCain. McCain referred to Rod Parsley, an evangelical leader of a mega-church in Ohio, as his “spiritual guide” (2/27/08). Was this covered? Parsley is a man who has compared Planned Parenthood to the Nazis and wrote in his 2005 book, “The fact is that America was founded, in part, with the intention of seeing this false religion [Islam] destroyed.” Sounds political to me.

It also concern me that many of the political, social, economical, and judicial issues that African Americans are facing in AMERICA are not being address by any of the candidates including Obama.
Again, I knew it was coming. Sometimes the “trick-a-ration” in football works and go for plenty of yardage and even result in a score. But, many times it just another bad play!!
Thank you Rev. Dr. Wright for being a voice and conscious for AMERICA.

How interesting and convenient that Obama’s pastor retired last month. How much did Obama pay his pastor to retire. Well Obama’s pastor must be praying night and day to his god of hate that Obama wins cuz if he doesn’t rev write won’t get his pension and will have to come out of retirement. Chicago – Where does it say God damn America in the Bible? And can you tell us why did your pastor retire from that church?
For a pastor to use the Bible to perpetuate and validate his hatred views on America is reprehensible. I just can’t imagine anyone continuing to attend a church that supports and preaches those views. I would get up and leave in the middle of that hatred filled sermon. It is beyond me how anyone can clap and cheer to that kind of message. You’d have to be so callous hearted and so indignant towards others to stomach and feed on those words. Why won’t you denounce it and reject it? Why did you make such a big deal about Ferrara and now that the table’s turned against you you can’t own up to it?? Obama deep down has a spiritual affiliation with this church and pastor and holds dearly to this kind of teaching.
I don’t know how anyone can call him/herself a Christian and sit through a sermon like this. I heard snippets of it on tv today, and the little that I heard made me want to vomit. How can someone who claims to be a man of God use the Bible in such a manipulating way to perpetuate his own hatred towards this country. And in some way I feel bad for the members they are brainwashed into believing that this is right and this is biblical. IT IS NOT! IT is filthy and destructive.
Obama better denounce and reject this – not just call it inflammatory (yes we know that). And why did he retire so suddenly and conveniently??

I commend ABC and Jake for having the integrity to write this story. All other news networks are completely silent on this. They know that if this comes out Obama is toast. I hope in the next debate Obama will get grilled because of this. This has to be made public! The people need to know this! This is deplorable information. You have a man running for the highest office in America who serves at a church that hates America. What really is on Obama’s agenda to be president? Is he going to bring this country to ruins? Is this what his pastor is hoping for? Some kind of retribution?

I find Rev. Jeremiah Wright‘s comments shocking! While it is arguable that we in the west may have at times overstepped our bounds in middle eastern countries interests in the context of our political and business ambitions over the past century, this statement from an African-American Pastor, from the congregation of the first viable mixed race candidate for president ever, is among other things stupid. I’ve actually been leaning strongly towards Obama. Those statements are very unfortunate and unnecessary. So inflammatory and provoking are these statements at a time when a member of his own fold is actually the front runner for the Democratic nomination that it must give us all pause for concern. Perhaps we truly have not made the social advances that I had began to think we had from the 1960’s thru the present. Frankly, they’ve got a name for people who hate like that, whatever their race!

Obama was quick enough to jump on Clinton about Geraldine Ferraro’s comments, which by the way were not racist, but yet he hasn’t come out and said anything about this. Come on Obama where’s your denounce and reject statement? I hope you people are seeing what you have been voting for. What is this teaching his children for God’s sake?

Mara — Again pointing fingers at the Clinton campaign for revealing this to the public. Mara it wasn’t the Clinton campaign that came out with this. Get your facts straight. This came out a while ago during the debate when America discovered that Obama’s pastor adulates Farakan – and I knew then that this information would come out sooner or later. I knew his church has racist ideologies against whites and Jews alike. I knew that. I commend that ABC news has the integrity to do this story. Mara are you sorry this came out? Were you hoping this would be kept secret? Common. Obama knew all along this would come out. His pastor retired for crying out loud. So stop putting the blame on Clinton when this is ALL on Obama and his great spiritual mentor rev. write. I love how Obama supporters tries to blame everything on Clinton when there isn’t even a connection, yet they totally dismiss the real issue here: THE FACT THAT OBAMA HAS NOT DENOUNCED HIS PASTOR’s VIEWS and how he has been attending that church for the past 20 yrs!!!!!!!! That is really damaging against him! Mara wake up. Stop living in your pipe dream of hoping one day Obama will be your black hero. He ain’t ! He’s just a racist trying to win this election by playing the victim of racism when he is the epidomy of racism. They perpetuate it.

“It is hard to imagine, though, how Mr. Obama can truly distance himself from Mr. Wright,” writes Jodi Kantor of The New York Times. On the day Sen. Obama announced his presidential quest in February of this year, Wright was set to give the invocation at the Springfield, Ill. rally. At the last moment, Obama’s campaign yanked the invite to Wright.
Wright’s camp was apparently upset by the slight, and Obama’s campaign quickly issued a statement “Senator Obama is proud of his pastor and his church.”

I found it so offensive that I copied the original article and emailed it to all my friends and family.Obama has been going to this church for 20 years,it must be something he deeply agrees with because you leave a church you dont.

I was a Ron Paul supporter but the media completely ignored him while it built Obama’s candidacy. Obama is not who he proclaims to be …uniter of all people, change and hope. No matter how they spin it, he cannot pretend that those views apply only to his mentor-pastor. Most of congregation were celebratiing Rev. Wright’s inflammatory remarks. How can people sing and praise God D*** America? Michelle’s bitternes against America is a reflection of this association. This will sink Obama. The sad thing about all this is that the bias media has eliminated viable candidates like Richardson, Edwards, and Biden. Sadly the media has pounded Clinton so much, for the sake of one-sided political correctness and apologies, that her candidacy is already in shreds. Bush was right, Clinton will win the nomination but the Republicans Neo-cons will win the election.

I don’t agree with Rev. Wright but to all the sudden say Obama is unworthy is ludicrous.

Just the thought of having these guys at the White House daying these things and having dinner at our expense….no way.

This is appalling. A self claimed uniter and an agent for change (wonder now what kind of change he meant by that).
I grew up going to church. I have disassociated myself from churches that I knew taught incorrect doctrine. If you say you are a Christian then your spiritual leaders will influence you on how you view the world and the way you interact with the world. If Obama’s pastor views it through hatred and racism then those ideologies will be transfered to his congergation and they in turn will feed on that and consciously or subconsciously live it.
This cannot be forgiven this cannot be overlooked this cannot be erased this has no excuse whatsoever when it comes to electing someone for the highest office of the US. You can’t elect someone to cammander in chief of America who has in his very own religion a debasing a demeaning a degrading opinion of the US. I have always wondered about Oabam’s patriotism towards America – this news confirms it for me – he has none.

Kel agreeing with your mother or not is not the same thing as this. This is a pastor who rather sings “God damn America” than God bless America. How can you as someone living in the US enjoying all of its privileges and opportunities wish on it God’s damnation???? And No, you don’t continue to go to a church that spews out hatred let alone let your children listen under that kind of teaching! How can we teach our children to love one another when spiritual leaders are teaching them otherwise? No, You leave the church. Agreeing with your mom or disagree is not the same thing as this. This is far more hideous. Stop making excuses for Obama. He has to own up to this. This cannot be overlooked as something that just happens all the time. We are not electing someone to clown school we are electing someone who will be the next president of the United States – someone we hope will have an undying love for this country someone who will die for this country someone who is proud of this country and will STAND UP for this country when others condemn it!!! Obama has not shown that yet. I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT Obama and the little news that leaks our here and there are all incriminating. So far there aren’t any good news. Obama is fishing. Rezko and now rev. Write. What next???? When do we as Americans say enough is enough.

I couldn’t believe the words coming out of Wright’s mouth. He spoke with such hate. You’re right. If Obama has attended this church for 20 years, he shares these views about America. “God Damn America”? I can’t believe that this has never come out before. This guy is running for President of the United States of America???? I’m glad I voted for Hillary.

Obama’s self proclaimed mentor.
What a realistic look into the potential of an Obama administration for any country!
Even when trying to brush off the racist, fear mongering, hatred of Wright, Obama refers to the man as on “old uncle!”
Does any of your family speak about others with such hate and racism?
If so, do you claim them?

Cindy. I’m an independent voter. I’m not looking for heroes – black or otherwise. But I’ve watched plenty of nasty election cycles (including the one where Karl Rove sent me a flyer claiming McCain had fathered a black baby) and th Clinton campaign is the nastiest. The Farrakhan issue was over in one new cycle – that dog won’t bark.
So do this. Count the number of days it took between Ferraro’s first comment and the Clinton campaign’s response (a week). Read Maggie Williams disgusting attempt to blame Ferraro’s attacks on Obama (they are on the Clinton website). Count the number of race-related articles before Ferraro made her last remark (it’s because I’m white). Count the number after. Count the number of posts made on race before Geraldine’s remarks. Count the number after. The Clinton campaign knew what it was doing and they played the race card, because their pollsters told them it would win them in Pennsylvania, WV and KY. Will it? I don’t know. I’ve lived all over – even in the deep south and I been amazed at how people are willing to work together – but maybe those states are the last racist holdouts. I’m hoping they are not. It’s not an America I want to believe in.
There are endless discussions anyone can have on religion – whether someone is Jewish, Catholic, Evangelical, Mormon – or belongs to a black Baptist church. My Dad had both political, racial and religious beliefs I don’t share – and I would probably not want to see them in print. I imagine anyone over 50 does as well. But he never turned his back on anyone, ever, who was in need – and that’s what I look for. People who are willing to walk their talk.

I can’t believe that at one time I supported Obama. HE really had me fooled. After the last debate I knew that I could not support him because he was not being honest with himself nor to the American people. The way he smirked the way he snickered the way carried himself during the debate was very telling of the kind of arrogance and haughtiness that he exudes. When asked about Farakan and his pastor he grinned from ear to ear and casually said he rejected and denounced Farakan’s remarks. I find him disingenuine, I find him lacking in personality lacking in fighting for the people. All of his community work and all of his work as Senator means nothing to me when he can’t even carry himself first as a human being. At least stand up for what’s right. AND STOP taking the American people as fools. WE aren’t. We have learned some things you although slowly but surely.

Mara – I’m still counting for Oabam to denounce and reject rev. writes hatred towards Americans and I’m still counting for Obama to renounce his association with that church that hopes God will damn America. I don’t want a president that on one hand claims to unite Americans and be proud of America and yet on Sundays sits in the pews saying Amen and clapping when a pastor makes racist remarks against America! I really really abhor this kind of hypocrisy.
Clinton has a lot of things about her that is bad, but I know that her allegiance is to America and she would never tolerate a pastor that preaches inflammatory sermons.
To be honest, I don’t care about the Ferraro business because that’s one’s interpretation of her comments. You can view it is stating a fact or as racist. Personally I don’t find it racist – she was stating a fact. Look at the polls. If Obama weren’t running, I am sure Hillary would get the black votes! I am positive she would because I know a lot of blacks who adored Clinton well up until Obama started running for president. And I don’t have anything against blacks voting for Obama – that’s great for them.
But what I do have against is an Obama who says one thing but can’t stand up for America when someone denounces America! I know what going to church is about. If you don’t agree with the pastor’s views you are not obligated to stay you can sever your membership. Oprah left that church. Why couldn’t Obama?? Why sit under teachings that teach hate and degrades whites? I find that deplorable. I find this worst that Ferraro’s comments. I find this unbecoming of someone who is running for president of America. It is unacceptable.
Posted by: cindy | March 13, 2008, 8:17 pm 8:17 pm
DENOUNCE AND REJECT! If Senator Obama does not do this, he is just being two-faced. First, demanding Clinton reject and denounce and fire Ferraro, and then for Rev Wright, he laughs it off as a crazy uncle! THAT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! I will never vote for this man! Hopefully we can survive another 4 republican years if he gets the nomination!

this speaks directly to Obama’s judgement and character. Obama cannot simply distance himself from the comments of his beloved spiritual mentor now that he is running for Potus! He and his family were faithful member of this church for 20 years! If he truly disagreed with his pastor and mentor, he would have walked within the first 20 minutes of pastor wrights first sermon.

it’s hard to think that Obama disassociates himself from his Pastor’s comments when his well paid, well educated (i.e. living the American dream) wife seems to have the same anti-white attitude. Then there is the matter of their children being exposed to this sort of thinking which to me is indicative of agreement. I want this to not be true but facts need to be faced.
Additionally, Hillary is just to conniving, too ethically challenged, too much of a liar…where do you stop with the negative adjectives with Hillary? She is horrible.
McCain has ended up looking better to me.

Cindy – I do not believe the timing of the Wright story is accidental. Obama has mentioned Wright for months if not years – so why did Fox and ABC chose this particular day to bring the story out? They chose this timing to fuel the fire – just like the media did after the Swift Boat ad. And what did that give us? Four more years of George Bush, a debt to the Chinese our children may be able to pay off, the loss of our own liberties, and an endless war.
The candidates are heading into PA, where the Governor has said a black man can not be elected. The Clintons need to win PA at any cost. The polls say the race issue will do that – that the people of PA are that bigoted. Mark Penn, chief advisor to the Clintons believes that all he needs is Fox News and the race card. I have more faith in people. Mark Penn does not. He refers to the working class people he needs in PA as “jugheads.”
Do the American people have the goodness and smarts to step back, hear from both sides, and then make a reasoned judgment – instead of leaping to attack – based on one news cycle? Or is 2004 going to happen all over again? Are you all going to make one of the most important political decisions of your lives – and your children’s lives overnight – based on one side of the story and one news cycle? I believe people are better than that.

You don’t hesitate to slam Clinton for what Ferraro or any other number non-issues, but I don’t see your love and support here. I’m not religious, but if this is who Obama uses as his mentor, why are supporting him America? How could he go to this church for twenty years and think it wouldn’t come back to hit him if he decided to run for president. For those of you that still have a chance to vote, please vote for Hillary or kiss this election good by. I’ve always voted democrat, but it’s not going to happen with this guy. Obama doesn’t have such a good background to say the least, an attorney for a crooked businessman Rezko, Farrakhan, Ayers and now his Pastor. Obama made his money from Rezko and at that time Rezko gave Obama the $300,000 to buy that southside house he lives in. Obama belongs to an all black church that hates whites and Farrakhan belongs to it also. If you think for one minute Obama likes the white people think again. He is using them for his own benefit to become the president of this country. How could so many white people be so stupid as to believe his fake speeches. Maybe he’s trying to be like MLK. And if he does win the nomination it is possible Hillary’s voters will switch to McCain to give McCain a landslide victory and send Obama back to the senate.

It’s time that we Americans get through our heads that Mr. Obama comes from the far fringers of American politics. Lately, his political image has been throughly re-manifactured by the king of Chicago’s politics David Axelrod and also by David Plouffe his senior campaign staff.Every political event that Mr. Obama attends is such a media savvy, scripted and orchestrated affair. His arrival, getting on the stage, greeting, the background faces, all of it done with perfect pitch and timing for the newscast footage, for the maximum effect-using all the elements of the stagecraft. His image is so well manufactured for the consumption and the manipulation of the public, Mr. Obama’s politics looking more and more like a Hollywood production than a real life political event. While Mr. Obama’s message is about change, what Mr. Obama really does seemed to be steeped in corporate media that cheered us along in a very big way to the quagmire in Iraq. Mr. Obama also claims to be MLK and even JFK, without having done tiniest fraction of the vast accomplishments of MLK or JFK. Mr. Obama even lacks a sustentative legislative record. But for American media deeds have little value if you have the right image. I watch Mr. Obama’s rise in alarm for the sake of America’s future. His hubris is unsurpassed in American politics. I find him and his message without a clear political logic or details, more suited for TV audience, no discussion of issues, programs or policies, rather his speeches are full of name dropping and all sorts of claims, rich in platitudes and slogans. How come Mr. Obama’s embracing the Kennedy Camelot of the 60’s is considered going forward and if Hillary Clinton looks back to the 90’s for guidance─ now that’s considered going backwards?

I know everyone is ready to jump on Barak because of the comments of his pastor. I think what people need to realize is that his pastor speaks for himself not for Barack. The quote regarding Hilary never being called the n word is true. As an African-American male there are a lot of racist experiences that I have had the “honor” of having. So for that it is true. People need to realize that there are many out spoken preachers in pulpits across the country, some of us have the intellegence to seperate a mans opinion from the Word of God. What I really take issue with is that we blast Barak and his “spiritual mentor” but no one blasted President Bush when his “spiritual mentor” Ted Hagget was busted for buying drugs and getting with male prostitutes. Ladies and gentlemen if you are looking for the perfect canidate, you won’t find one. Regardless of the color of their skin, gender or political party. What we need to do is stop letting our fears dictate what we do. Barak is the unknown, people fear that, Hilary has a famous last name people embrace that. But she is a typical seasoned politician, the same as those who have run this country into the mud. It is time for a change, it is time to do something different. WAKE UP, America is struggling, she is hurting, she is hated. Give the man a chance, don’t take his meekness for weakness, let see what he can do. If he fails we wo’t be in any worse shape then we already are. Our current President is a liar, he is manipulative, he is a bully. We have had 8 years of hell. To be honest, I wouldn’t put it past our current government if they knew 911 was gonna happen before it did. Barak’s pastor isn’t the first to say that. HELLO Michael Moore. So the fighting and lets fix the mess this country is in. Really it is time for CHANGE and last time I checked you don’t get change from people who are a part of the same crowd.

You’ve got to be kidding. I should vote for Hillary because she went from living in government housing almost all her marriage and having way less net worth than I do to suddenly, through the miracle of elected office, now is a multi-multi millionaire? Since she won’t release her tax returns I can only imagine that a good portion of her “windfall” is from questionable sources….i.e. bribes to her husband by people who expect he’ll be back in the White House.
You imply that I’m jealous and think that’s a reason I should vote for her? All that with having no idea who I am? You are a prime example of why I won’t EVER vote for Hillary.

If Obama thinks he is going to win in Pennsylvania he better forget it. Hillary will win that state because he cannot win the big states and it already has been proven. I agree with Mark Penn, in a general election he would not win those states they will go republican. They would have voted for him in the first place. Looks like a McCain win if Hillary doesn’t get the nomination. But that’s okay with me as long as Obama doesn’t win and his run of the mouth wife Michelle won’t be first lady.

It’s always shocking to learn something unpleasant about someone you believe in. It’s even more alarming when they are so highly educated, charismatic, smooth talking, ect. But believe me when I tell you, deciet lives in all facets of society and on every possible level.
The problem with someone like Obama is that his credintials and high IQ lend him credibilty, which he is obviously trying to hide behind.

To Epman:
It is true that we can not blame Obama for his preacher’s sermons. However, you don’t go to a church for 20 years listening to those same type of sermons week after week without believing at least some if not all of it. By saying that you don’t agree with the sermon of the pastor, you are saying that you don’t agree. However, if I don’t agree with someone, I don’t and wouldn’t continue going to the church. You don’t go listening to this man for 20 years if you didn’t want to listen to that type of hate filled speaking! Shame on Obama for associating himself with this church. If you agree that this church is spewing the right sermon, then you have the same hate in your heart as that pastor does.

I agree…I’m very disappointed. I figured there’d be some things I didn’t love…like Rezko…but this thing with his Pastor is too much. It’s un-Presidential. Maybe there will be some explanation but at this point I have a hard time imagining what he can say. That coupled with his wife’s attitude and the length of time at that church just gives credibility to the whole ugly scenario. Originally I gave his wife a pass for the “first time I’m proud of America” statement. Sigh…
We’ll see…but I’m disillusioned.

Hello, Michael More is entitled to free speech just as the good Reverend Wright.
However, Michael Moore is not McCain’s or Clinton’s racist, America hating, spiritual mentor/minister either. Obama has spent twenty years supporting Reverend Wright and now embraces him in his campaign. Where do Obama supporters get the audacity to defend this while they take aim at Ferraro?
Posted by: redsolomon | March 13, 2008, 10:45 pm 10:45 pm
To SuziQ:
You have to be kidding, you assume that people can’t be rich and in the White House? She had jobs before becoming first lady. She wasn’t poor when they got in the white house and she wasn’t living in government housing. She was the First Lady of the United States. All of Obama’s supporters want to see her tax returns. If she were getting bribes, it wouldn’t show on her tax returns. But let’s throw a wrinkle in that thought. The bribes that Obama could have received from Rezko wouldn’t show up in his tax returns either. So back off Hillary and her tax returns. Let’s look at Obama’s bank accounts during the years he was in the Illinois Senate. Maybe we will see some interesting deposits and transfers.

Are some of you Obama supporters blind? This article says:
“Last December, Obama’s campaign issued a press release in which Wright was listed as a national leader of the Obama campaign’s “African American Religious Leadership Committee.”
That’s pretty political.”
While I understand you say the views of a pastor do not represent Obama’s. But come on, for 20 years he’s been to the same church every Sunday (per his own words), you’re saying he must have not heard of any of those harsh comments made by the pastor? He only spiritually “opened Obama’s eyes” at the beginning and that was it? What about the claim from Obama himself that this pastor has been his mentor? What about all those praises about him in Obama’s book? Yes, he doesn’t necessarily agree on Everything he says, but is it that simple? Just think for one moment, 20 years devoted to the same church! Unless you are an idiot and cant’ think!

Obama——Yikes,
AMEN! Hillary’s got her issues, but she’d still make a great president! She has done so many good things for people around the globe and I for the life of me cannot understand why no one can see this. She will work her heart out for this country. I think for Hillary it’s more about leaving a positive legacy and mark in American history. And I would totaly trust her to keep our country safe and on a positive track.

I never said you can’t be rich and in the WH. What I said was they had little before getting to the WH and now suddenly are rich. Isn’t that special?
Bill has all sorts of corporate alliances that fund him VERY well and some of these obviously would benefit extremely from Hillary getting herself into the WH. This has been discussed widely as a possible conflict of interest.
Somewhere stashed on the net is a schedule showing the remarkable growth of their net worth…if I can find it I’ll post it.
I’m not defending Obama BTW…he sort of lost me with this pastor fiasco.

I have known about the church’s stance on being unapolagethically black and their non-negotiatable commitment to Africa, but not until I heard these sermons did I truly see the depth of the hatred that this church spews on the pulpit. I would have never voted for Obama before but now I can not seeing even supporting the man if he were in office. Is Obama going to dictate the country with these beliefs? Are we going to all of a sudden have to bow down to the beliefs of this church? Will we have to commit to Africa? Someone from Obama’s camp, please tell me!
Posted by: Brian Seattle | March 13, 2008, 11:01 pm 11:01 pm
It seems the Obama camp has put out the talking point to blunt this unbelievable view of a pastor.
The talking point is;
“A Republican candidate had the same views about America and 9/11, so it should not be a big deal.”
I have heard all the pundits repeat this talking point so far in all the show tonight.
Obama has at least a 20 year relationship with this pastor and Tony Rezko. You do the math.

I agree with you totally “sad state of affairs”. HRC would work 24/7 as president and I can’t believe we wouldn’t have excellent results. Can’t more of you out there see how she would take on the republicans and do what is necessary to protect the U.S.A? She has the best health care plan and is equal to or better than Obama on most, if not every issue. She has been working with and supporting African-Americans her entire public life.
I don’t understand the hatred towards her or the love of Obama. Obama doesn’t stand a chance in the general election. With Rezko and now stories of this ridiculous mentor, we are just starting to get a fuller picture of Obama. What else will come out between now and November? By the way, I heard of Obama’s alliance of Rev. Wright, but it is not until I saw the video of him today that I realized the full extent of what he is preaching. If this is what Obama has been taking in for twenty years straight, and this is who he has helping run his campaign, then God help us all!
If Obama wins, this lifetime democrat will thinking red, or probably just not voting at all.

Obama donated $25,000 to Wright and his church last year. That is troubling.

This story has been out all day and yet Senator Obama has not released a statement denouncing this church and preacher. Now I truly see the conversation I had with someone the other day. He told me that I was missing Senator Obama’s hidden speech. He told me that Senator Obama was going to get in the White House and start letting the world know what our government has been doing. He mentioned 9/11 and said that Obama knew what really happened and would be taking control and showing American people why we did it. OMG, I am scared for this country for the first time in my life if this man becomes President. Have we been so blind all this campaign not to notice these things that this person seems to have already knew? By watching these sermons, I see what the kid was saying. I see the agenda and it scares me!
Posted by: Brian Seattle | March 13, 2008, 11:27 pm 11:27 pm
SuziQ, do you not realize that former Presidents get very large fees to speak at events? Do you not realize that Hillary Clinton had a best selling book after she left the White House? All of these factors would amount to why they have made more money since they have been out of the White House. Money has nothing to do with the debate of who is a better fit for the Presidency of the United States.

Did you look at the links and ready the article? I think not because you didn’t have time and wouldn’t be asking these questions if you had.
Besides which, you say we shouldn’t talk about money but plenty of people here are upset over Obama’s link with Rezko – which is a money deal.
Most politics is about money, unfortunately.

As I keep on saying… we need a national discussion on race. Why not use this opportunity to add that aspect to the Penn Debate. The subject is out there – but we just keep talking past each other or yelling at each other. These two candidates, whether they wanted to or not, have re-opened the great wound of race relations and disparity… they need to address it!

This is why I don’t go to church. The guy is just another Holy Roller with some politics thrown in. But come on — he’s not a campaign adviser, and he’s not even the pastor of the church anymore. I can’t remember when the news media showed scenes from any other candidate’s church and then made fun of the candidate. Jeez! First they require you to go to church to get into politics (us irreligious types get no respect) and then they make fun of the church you go to.

This is the end of history. Obama can not win inthe general election. It is either he withdraws for honor if he has or fight in the general election. Republicans can not let Obama sleep with their campaign machinery all about Obama’s dirt that are all facts. At least the Republicans now will make a fair informative campaign against Obama. Say goodbye to democratic party for the next 4 years all because of the American infatuation of Obama. Democrats will have to wait 2012 for their turn.

Grandma Barb: I did not call anyone in PN a bigot because I do not believe that. I said the opposite. I don’t believe everyone who votes for Clinton is a bigot. My mother is 93 and she wants to see a woman President. She is for Hillary. She also has a number of bi-racial grandchildren and I would defy anyone to call her a racist. I said that Mark Penn, who calls working class people, like my family, jugheads, expects that he can play the race card, scare voters, and win more votes for Clinton. There was a reason why the Wright story came out when it did – and it was not oversight, it was political strategy. You certainly can vote for whomever you want – but you do not have a right to twist my words.

Many Obama campaign members are saying things that are damaging their very own candidate! First you have Rice, then Powers, then Thorne, and Goolsbee. There are a few more that I can’t remember off the top of my head. But come on, they are accusing Hillary’s campaign of this nasty fighting when in fact his very own campaign has so many loose cannons they can’t even keep it together. And now Rev Wright! How can you even condone the content of his sermons. I am sure if we bought every sermon that he has ever given, there would be so much hate filled talk that all of the country would be so disgusted that they demanded this church be shut down!

We’re going to shoot ourselves in the foot again over race, gender, and religion…..the Democratic Party, I guess the jack symbol should not be taken lightly, it may be time for an independent party, we’ve got to move on. What makes you think it is a handful of sermons? Plus I dont care if it is one sermon or 1000. It is the content of the message and the way it is presented that upsets me. I have seen at least 7 of these so called sermons and they all have the same hate filled messages and anger in them. So if you are saying it is a handful, then you are sadly mistaken. If there are this many that we know about, there are many many more. This man’s hate is exuding every time he speaks. I don’t see how he can go from this type of sermon to one with love and kindness for all! Wake up and smell the poo!
Posted by: Brian Seattle | March 14, 2008, 1:22 am 1:22 am
All you have proof of his a handful of sermons. And like I said it’s not as hate filled as you would like to think and that’s probably what’s really upsetting.
Nevada-What gives you the right to judge him based off a handful of sermons. Tell me where you get the right? Just about every church I’ve gone to has made comments that I disagreed with about homosexuals. Does that mean I hate homosexuals too?
Who are you? Are you Barack’s mother? Father? Best friend? I doubt it. Please I would love to hear you answer those questions with a straight face and a clear conscience. If you can I’ll pray for you.
But somehow many of you feel you have the right to base him off another man. Maybe I don’t have the right to assume that Obama doesn’t believe the same thing as his pastor but in the same breath you don’t have the right to believe he does.
Posted by: Kel | March 14, 2008, 1:24 am 1:24 am
Many media outlets will not carry this latest story about Obama’s pastor because the will look like fool. CNN mentioned it briefly after the talked down Hillary every 5 minutes. They help created Obama and help him beat down Hillary. They need to give as much time to this story as they did beating down Hillary. Obama did not have legs until Oprah supported him then the media outlets when crazy. I am African American and I support the media outlets action to run this story 24/7….smile. African Americans need to know who they are supporting.

That is where you are wrong. MSNBC, ABCNews, FOXNews have all ran this. FOXNews spent over an hour between O’Reilly and Hannity on this exact story. MSNBC spent part of their nightly newscast on this. So your idea that it is an agenda of ABC is not plausable. You are obviously an Obama supporter and you obviously find no problem with the content of these sermons. So therefore, you can assume all you want but your own admission that you condone the content doesn’t make you any better than this pastor!
Posted by: Brian Seattle | March 14, 2008, 1:35 am 1:35 am
It’s on none of their websites. The point is they aren’t making a huge deal out of it like ABC is. ABC has multiple pages about it. Videos too.
And I never said I condoned anything. You’re putting words in my mouth. The judgmental nature is evident.
I asked a simple question. Why is it not ok for me to assume that Obama doesn’t agree with the pastor but ok for you to assume? Attendance isn’t enough.
As I stated just about every church I’ve been to has judged homosexuals. Is it fair to say that I hate homosexuals? No it’s not. Because you don’t know me just like you don’t know Obama.
I am an Obama supporter and I’m also a Hillary supporter. This nonsense is out of control though. You’re all picking apart the man on technicalities. Give me something solid and I may be impressed.

This pastor is not even supposed to be using his pulpit to discuss politics. It’s a good thing he retired from the ministry of the church or they could lose their non-profit status for violating the separation of church and state laws. The pulpit is supposed to be for teaching the Bible from. I have never heard a so-called Christian minister take God’s name in vain before or curse the country he lives in. 9/11 was caused by radical Islamic extremists. Any transgressions committed by the US is no excuse, whether real or imagined. If Wright had ever read his Bible, he would know that God says “Revenge is mine”, not “Revenge belongs to Bin Laden”. Now this man has officially joined Obama’s campaign. There is no way Obama could ever convince me that he has listened to this man’s hate filled rants for 20 years but does not agree with them. As far as committing to Africa is concerned, if anyone has been listening to Oprah, Clooney, Pitt, John and Theresa Kerry, etc. from the start, they have all been embracing Obama for the very fact that he has already committed to them all this country’s support for their pet projects in Darfur, Kenya, and the rest of Africa. Bush has said no new military bases in Africa, but that is not Obama’s policy. Did anyone catch the interviews on the street in Kenya about who they wanted to be President and why? None of this is a secret, John Kerry sat on This Week after the first primary and endorsed Obama because of all of the things he was going to do for Africa. HELLO! We are supposed to be electing the President of the US. If Obama wants to do so much for Africa, let him go run for President down there. Wright makes out in the rant against Hillary that Obama had such a hard time growing up. I have friends who live in Hawaii where Obama grew up, and it is a long way from the ghetto. He doesn’t know any more about being poor and downtrodden than Hillary does. If he is elected, you can look for this country to be more racially divided than at any other time since the Civil War.

CNN and MSNBC are not even making this news. Shame on them!!! I’m glad Fox brought this up and ABC has it all over the news. CNN and MSNBC is biased to Obama and their reporting is bogus and unfair. They have Michelle Obama’s life in their news tonight at CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360. Who cares about her life? Her husband has issues that needs to be answered and that’s what should be discussed. Oh and by the way, MSNBC’s saliva-spitting Chris Matthews, he’s the most obnoxious and biased commentator I’ve ever known. He has no credibility whatsoever. I can’t even call him a lousy journalist because he’s no journalist.

I am judging the pastor and the fact that Barack Obama has been going to this church for 20 years. And this pastor is not the only one at the church that speaks of White America being down on Black America. I don’t want a President that feels his race has been slighted decided my future. I dont want race to be a role in the White House. His alliance to this church for 20 years clearly states he believes their values and that I have a problem with! Stop playing the race card, we don’t care if you are black or white, we care that you are american.

Kel-OPEN YOUR EYES! What answer are you looking for because there are many up here already! You can obviously believe whatever you choose, that’s what’s good about this country!
Posted by: Nevada | March 14, 2008, 1:59 am 1:59 am
Barack is one of the few people not playing the race card. All the comments have come from somewhere else. Less we forget that Barack is multiracial. I’m black and white just like he is and while I can’t speak for him I can tell you that I can’t muster up the strength to be racist. I especially can’t muster up my strength to HATE my own mother because she’s white and the world views me as black.
Just about every church judges homosexuals poorly. I’m sure they do so for 20+ years. Do you think that it’s ok to say that everyone that has attended that church for 20 years hates homosexuals? It’s not. It’s not fair.
Barack might believe some of the values that the pastor preaches but he doesn’t have to believe all of them. The problem with most of you is that you’re comfortable with assuming. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it’s stupid of me but I think everyone deserves as much.
I just really hope some of you will reevaluate. Give him a chance and not jump on the “barack must hate whites because his pastor does.” I hope that some of you will try to step out of your own shoes and into someone else’s for a change. I hope that people will put race aside because Barack definitely isn’t talking about it.
It truly breaks my heart.
That’s all. I’m leaving. Have a good one.

if hillary attended a similar church she’d have been forced out immediately. but obamaites just keep excusing, excusing, excusing. he may even get the nomination, because of all the excusing and the media coverup of the truth about him. but the repubs will not be so kind as to hide this sort of thing. and they won’t let him get away with that just a crazy old uncle b.s. they will rightly point out that he CHOSE this church/pastor, stayed there 20 years, had this guy marry him and baptize his kids, contributed 2000 per month, etc. just another of the many reasons obama is not only wrong for the country but unelectable.
Posted by: so saddened | March 14, 2008, 2:23 am 2:23 am
girlinvt, you are so right about leaving a church that spews hatred. but obama didn’t. and not only does that reflect his agreement with the pastor’s views, despite his denials, but it also says something about what he’s teaching his children. imagine how children’s views of the world must be affected by spending their childhood hearing that sort of hate speech in what’s supposed to be a place of God?
Posted by: so saddened | March 14, 2008, 2:56 am 2:56 am
Obama’s church claims to be a “Christian” church. The pastor of a Christian church should preach salvation through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This church is rather radical. Why has the Obama family remained in this chruch for 20 years? Do the American people actually know who Obama is and what he stands for. I have not heard Obama say that he has accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He only says that he is a member of a Christian Church. Hitler was a member of a Christian Church. Hitler was a Catholic. As a young man he was in the choir and wanted to be a priest. Being a member of a church does not mean a person is a Christian. America needs to know exactly who Obama is and what his value system truely is. The main stream news media must explore his value system further and not fall prey to his rhetoric.

I don’t know what Obama can do now. How can he denounce and reject the support of his own pastor for 20 years? It’s not like it was a little one-time slip.
It’s up to the people and the media to hold him accountable for his long, intimate association with this hate-monger and this church which honored Farrakhan with a lifetime achievement award.

The concept of ruling Obama as a black man is the same as the slaves age, using the “One drop rule”
Remember he’s half black and half white. The African Americans are not only his people, so is the rest of the Americans.
So what if his pastor held contempt toward a society where racism still exist up to this date.
Dissent is not unpatriotic, it is tell you the truth about the society and you can hear it or ignore it.

So can we all agree that we didn’t really know Barrack Obama like we thought?
For those of you who say that we can’t presume that Obama has been influenced by Rev. Wright, one need only to listen to his wife Michelle, and know that she has.
After all these years, we have two high profile Harvard grads fully vested in the mantra of the white man holding them down.
I read an article years ago that chided the black religious community for maintaining its control and attendance by perpetuating the sorry state of affairs for blacks by reinforcing old imagery and hateful sermons.
That was an article, but the video of Rev. Wright is proof positive that this is indeed a tactic still in use.
Sadly, at the end of the day Obama comes off as either disingenuous about his campaign rhetoric about transcending race, or perhaps worse, has shown incredibly poor judgement by remaining a member of this congregation.
We all know the importance of “judgement” to the success of Obama’s core argument for choosing him over Hillary. Also, seeing this other side to Obama’s life opens the door to all kinds of doubt about what he really means. What does he hope for and what will he change?
I hope that the insidious pattern of hate that is obviously still rampant in black community churches can be investigated further and get some discussion going…. is it productive? Is it healthy?
Can we ever change if this is an accepted means of holding the attention of a congregation?

I don’t think you’re right about the guy retiring from the church so that he can work on Obama’s campaign, suzalee. Don’t think it matters much, though. It’s going to come down to what people think, not to what’s actually true. Talk about opening Pandora’s box…

When does it end? Why are blacks still crying about events which happened in the past? Is this moving forward? For anyone who thinks this isn’t relevant, but yet the comments of Ferraro are…are you reading with both eyes, or just hiding your head under the pillow hoping that none of this is true? If I went to a church, and all the pastor spoke about was how horrible a nation we are, and how horrible blacks are, I wouldn’t go there again, because those are not the beliefs I was brought up with. If someone continues to go to such a church, they apparently agree with the pastor’s views. Open your eyes people, you can talk great, and look great, and blame everyone else for your problems, or you can just be the best you can be, regardless of the injustices, because they will always exist in one way or another for everyone. Obama is not who you think he is, and this shows it only way too much. If Obama is the candidate, McCain will be our next President.

This also goes back to the beginning of Obama’s campaign when he was in Georgia and South Carolina. He had a “Gospel Tour” through alot of black churches that included “ex-gay” Donnie McClirkin. At the time, McClirkin was talking about how he was delivered from the evils of homosexuality before and after Obama would speak. When this became public, Obama decided to include a gay pastor (who gave a prayer, then left immediately), so Obama could say he was inclusive. Now, Obama has distanced himself from the tactics at the beginning of his campaign. He IS playing both sides of the fence. He gets a pass from the media in all this.

What really strikes me is that Wright really has no empathy for what Hillary has gone through in her own life…or in general, what Women go through in their lives. African American MEN were given the right to vote before women. Women helped the abolitionists and when slavery and the AA male vote was taken care of, the abolitionist men LEFT the women’s suffrage movement. What about the fact that after slavery was abolished, women were still considered a man’s property upon marriage. And, if a woman was beaten or abused and wanted out of the marriage, she couldn’t and if she insisted, she didn’t have a right to her children. What about women being considered 2nd class citizens? What about women being raped, beaten, murdered? How man men to you see missing/murdered on the news? It’s usually a man preying on a woman. Why doesn’t Wright address these issues or empathize with the discrimination and hatefulness directed at women in this society too? How about the fact that there have been only MEN in the Presidency and not one WOMAN? Wright should not be a pastor, he doesn’t not have LOVE for all of God’s people. He incites rage and hate which he hopes will be directed toward the white oppressors of society. I should feel the same hate too, right? I’ve been oppressed as a woman in this society. Not one of my Presidents has been a woman – therefore I haven’t had full representation for my issues.

Now Obama’s supporters are saying it is okay that Obama attend this Church and should not questions is past. If this is the case then Obama’s supporters are not looking for change and need to shut up about McClain and Hillary’s backgrounds. Accept the fact that Obama is same as all other candidates. Yes, Obama for change, yes his unknown problems are changing people mind not to vote for him.

So Obama’s mentor doesn’t think much of women’s suffering, Jews, whites, gays, blacks who disagree with him, and America. Well I guess that covers most of us and Obama sit through this because he is one of Rev. Wrights select few. Meanwhile Obama’s campaign and the bias media viciously attacked Ferraro. Obama may become president, but not in this country.

I don’t dislike Obama because he is black any more than I oppose Hillary because she is a woman or McCain because he’s white. I simply don’t like their politics. Obama’s loyalty to a minister who curses our nation is on a par with Giuliani’s support for his priest who molests children. Neither are fit to lead our country.

As a Obama supporter I was disappointed in Rev. Wright’s outrageous preaching. Because it has the potential to turn wishy-washy voters through guilt-by-association attacks, I expect Obama to come out with an even stronger denunciation of such ideas.
Guilt-by-association was tried against Bill Clinton in 1992 but wasn’t able to stop him. The difference here is the added element of race, and Obama can’t afford to let that simmer. He needs to once again make a break with those ideas and move on.
Nevertheless, there are those who do in fact validate some of Rev. Wright’s words by repeating falsehoods such as that Obama’s camp winked at the Candians when in fact the Canadians corrected themselves to say it was actually the Clintons who had done so. And those who say that Obama won’t salute the flag, is a Muslim, and all the other hate-induced slander that they read in their email. Such people are just as bad as Wright.

WHAT THE MEDIA SHOULD SEARCH IS, IF OBAMA WAS THERE WHEN REV. WRIGHT MADE THESE RACIAL STATEMENTS AND THE DENOUNCEMENT OF THE USA FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO US IN 9/11…I WANT TO KNOW, I DEMAND TO KNOW IF HE WAS THERE DURING THOSE SERMONS AND STILL ASSIGNED THIS MAN TO HIS CAMPAIGN. IT SEEMS OBAMA LOST THE JUDGEMENT HIGROAD WITH THIS ONE.

One cannot ignore that this is where Obama chooses to worship, his God. One is responsible for their choices. It does not warrant an exemption because of race. Model it. If you transposed this situation into a non-black scenario (say McCain) it would be rendered non-patriotic.
It is time that Obama stand up and detail the issues he so rhetorically espouses that he has positions on. We should hold him accountable for that because that is what we expect from leaders. Sitting in a church on Sunday and badmouthing the government isn’t leadership. This behavior breeds contempt and resentment and that isn’t healthy for any person of any color or gender.
Obama was elected to be a part of, government that is slammed by this minister.
When you have nothing to offer, you can always slam the last guy or the last administration for what they did wrong. We saw that with Bush 8 yrs ago. We’re seeing it again with Obama. Wake up.
This country needs an economist, a world diplomat, a military strategist, a person of integrity, someone who respects the constitution, and a human being that can relate to the people and understand all of issues of all its constituents. We don’t need another empty speechmaker without real resolution to our problems.

People keep saying just because he was there does not mean he agreed. Whoa…First he CHOOSES to go to a church with a miniter who espouses hate,is a racial bigot, and has no love for our country. This is a man who wants to be president of the very country that his preacher–a man of God??–damns. Over twenty years he has had opportunity to suggest Wright dial it back or he will have to worship else where. Obviously this “good judgement” was not excersized. How can BHO begin to talk of unity. Denouncing is not sufficient. He listened for twenty years. He is 19 years an 364 days too late.

Congratulations ABC News, for exposing the doctrines and the views of this Pastor and his congregation. Yes I also include this congregation that Obama is a member of. To spew out these anti-American, anti-White, and other conspiracies theories is really appalling. Obama likes to point out the great position he took against the war, but what about his decision on being a member of this Racist Church? 20 years! There are a lot of Amens coming from Obama’s lips in 20 years of membership.

LOL @ most of Obamania comments. So it’s ok for Leader of Obama campaign’s African American Religious Leadership Committee to say such things, but not ok for Geraldine Ferraro to say what she has said recently? Nice double standard, I’m not surprised where that’s coming from though. And yes, let’s blame the media for reporting these information. They should only write articles praising Obama. How worthless… LOL

He needs to step down from his role on the campaign. I support Barack Obama, and the struggle of blacks in our country is different from whites. The struggles of the oppressed are most often dismissed under the cloud of the myth of the perfect america and blind patriotism. But the pastor has gone too far and it seems his ego has gotten in his own way.
It is interesting to me that Mr. Obama has a pastor and Ms. Clinton and Mr. McCain only have a reference to a denomination. The connection and participation with a faith community is important. Especially the particiapation within a community in which everyone does not agree with everyone. That is what makes a church a much more healing place.

Have we not all surrounded ourselves with people that have different ideals, different philosophies, different backgrounds then ourselves? They may be family, they may be friends, they may mentors or polictal figures that we favor. Not all the time are we going to agree with what they may believe or what they may say and we don’t turn our backs on them for expressing themselves. This is the United States of America and eventhough there are things that I don’t like about my Country the good thing is that I can express that and not worry about being persucuted, harmed or injured by my government for expressing how I fell.
Remember this man was around during the days of Jim Crow and Civil rights and there maybe some things that may not sit well with him. His Constutional right gives him the freedom to express that. Do we now BLAME B.Obama for the words of one man or relize that this maybe a difference of opion from a religious mentor.

I really get a chuckle out of Obama’s explanation that Wright is like an old uncle that he does agree with 100% of the time — I’m sure it would have gone over well with the Obama people if Hillary had said that Ferraro was like and old aunt ……..
And what’s the deal with Wright’s statements about Obama not being white, rich or priveleged? OK, he’s half-white and he may not be as rich as his friend Oprah or his democratic establishment supporters, the Kennedys, but an income of about $1M in 2006 is pretty darn good.
So when he talks about “Change”, is it the Rev. Wright kind of change he means? Or is it the kind of change that being beholden to dinosaurs like Kennedy, Kerry, McCaskill, etc. brings about — which is no change at all. .

Where is the fairness in the media. I use to hate FOX news. They seemed to hate the Clintons, but they are the only ones showing Obama’s pastor for weeks. CNN and MSNBC are just starting to show it and are not making a big deal of it. Could you imagine if Clinton’s preacher talked this way about black america. It just shows once again CNN and MSNBC are going to try to get Obama in. It won’t work the american people see whats happening.

Jake, there’s NO supporter with which a candidate doesn’t have at least one disagreement. (Rush’s dittoheads excepted.)
I care about major advisors. If Axelrod started saying off the wall stuff, I’m be concerned. The Reverend (and retired) Wright? Not so much.
That AARL Committee must have a whole lot of members. From the article, the SC section alone is huge!:
“The South Carolina leadership committee includes nearly 130 senior pastors from some of the largest and most important churches across the state.”
I expect the group includes some that are anti-gay, some that are pro-creation or intelligent design – who knows? Who cares?
Obama’s point has been to find what we all have in common, not dig up our differences. Waht part of that do people not understand?

I do not know much of Rev. Jeremiah Wright other than the comments that were made public in the media, and I am sure Rev. Jeremiah Wright is a man of God, but personally I would question my judgment if my Pastor made those comments or if my “spiritual mentor” spoke in that language and said those words about the United States especially after the tragic event of 911.

I can’t believe this. Senator O’Bama is going to bring about change and experience is not important because he can practice good judgement. If HRC were remotely connected with David Duke, I bet all major cities in America would be in gridlock with the inundation of protestors calling for her dismissal form the race and the senate. ABC is probably the only news broadcast that reports the news equally on both candidates. You do not here/or your see CNN or MSN reporting this news with any seriousness because they are republican backed news media and they want O’Bama (the easy candidate to beat) to run for the Presidency.
Senator O’Bama states “I don’t think my church is particularly controversial”, is that why they have at least a dozen of these sermon for sale to the general public. I hope the so called “US of KKK” as referenced by Rev Wright opens its eyes to the actions of this Glory boy O’Bama and see what he is truly about.
Then there are the O’Bama supporters crying, oh why did ABC wait to bring this out now, it was not important a while ago??? The fact of the matter is does that really matter? When/If he begins the Presidential Election process do you not think he will be exposed.
I applaud ABC for running this story, but I am afraid it was present a little to late. I am sure the there is much more dirt out there on this Golden Boy, and people are going to regret their decision.

I hope is too late to understand that you need more than Judgment to run a Country… The damage is already there and many people already casted the votes thinnking What I did… but in the other hand is going to bring experience to voters to understand how important is the vote and how sure you need to be at the time you need to select your candidate, is going to teach many people that you can not trust Media …..
Again I hope Media back up and is not late to take Obama out the Nomination…..
I am sorry, comments for this racist Reverend should matter, this is the Church he is attending for 20 years…..

Mike,
Are you kidding. This whole election is absolutely about race. And the race card is being played. And anyone who supports the rhetoric that came out of that Reverends mouth is absolutely a supporter of such rhetoric or there would have been disassociation long ago.

In 2004, my priest at St. Patrick’s in Washington DC railed against Senator Kerry for supporting abortion rights. I stood up in the middle of mass and walked out – so did several other people. After that we went to a different church. Why didn’t Obama do the same?
Posted by: BMurphyNYC | March 14, 2008, 1:31 pm 1:31 pm
Do you notice that race is NOT supposed to be a factor, but whenever a minority is involved it always is. A hispanic last name automatically makes you think of the illegal immigration. Who’s
fault is that?
Public perception & stereotypes be what they may over the years…do you feed the wrong perception?
I have a lot of heroes & Bill Cosby is one of them but nobody wants to listen to his wisdom. One of the best examples of a black man on the planet & they call him a traitor…lol!

I guess all those Catholic who ended up with pastors who abused children can’t run for president. And since so many of the Cardinals who looked the other way are still in the Church, all Catholics who don’t leave the Church must be, by definition, supporters of child abuse. Is that what we are saying? Obama is not responsible for the words of his pastor; nor is McCain responsible for the words of the religious fundamentalist who support him.
Posted by: Tom Zirpoli | March 14, 2008, 1:39 pm 1:39 pm
.I am so happy that his church is getting more attention and I am African American. Bill Clinton was right ‘Fairly Tale’ dreams. Bill Clinton was trying to warn us without going into details about Obama because the media outlets would turn it against his family….that did any way. Once some of the African Americans fully understand his believes, his supports will decrease in the African Americans’ communities. If you vote for Obama then you have to believe in junk and his pastor’s believes. And, the DNC IS A BUNCH OF WEAK GROUP, they only care about the money being raised by Hillary and Obama. This is way; I keep saying that Obama can not be on the ticket with Hillary if she wins. He has too much unknown baggage’s that the media outlets are too scare touch. It may be too late; we may have to accept whatever change Obama and his pastor are planning to hand down to us. The pastor has resigned from the church a month and is now acting as adviser for the Obama’s camp, over a month. Best no one of this before the media outlets was not going their jobs. The joke is on the young white Americans and the Africa Americans that did not fully understand Obama’s church. This is one of the reasons, I do not support Obama, and I am Africa American. I follow my pastor because I believe in him and what he is saying. And, Obama is doing the same.

For months I dismissed all the rhetoric about Obama’s preacher and mentor as political garbage, however now after seeing and hearing this hateful nut recently on MSM I’ve learned my lesson about so easily dismissing these investigative articles. Hearing Rev. Wright was very concerning.
If Obama really deplores this hate, why has he stayed with this nut for 20 years? However I’m willing to hear Obama out before being hasty.

You know it has always been true that actions speak louder than words…. I do not need to hold an opinion to hear out Obama when his action to continue to support this particular church and preachings and tha fact that this reverend is a part of his staff as reported in another ABC article on this story shows his standing of agreeance with the Reverends position and insight on America and its citizens:
Obama said Wright “is like an old uncle who says things I don’t always agree with,”
Wright is listed as a national leader of the Obama campaign’s “African American Religious Leadership Committee.”

The fact that it took Cnn and MSNBC until now to talk about this is crazy. What are we living in Russia or the middle east where they decide what we need to know? The liberal papers barely mention this. And the excuses for this what a bunch of hypocrites If Mccain was at a white sepratist church they would be asking for him to get out of race. I think Obama pulled the wool over everyones eyes. This is his spiritual advisor and dear friend who he always consults with. Actions speak louder than words. Obama has to agree with his pastor. He has listened to this hate for 20 years. His wife couldn’t hide her feelings as well.

I don’t get it.. is everyone upset because deep down inside they know that alot of what the pastor is saying is TRUE?It wasn’t so long ago that we had segregated drinking fountains and women barefoot in the kitchen. Jeez, think about it, not one of us can claim we have never felt priveliged to be white.. and if you say you haven’t then you are lying to yourself. He’s overzealous that I agree to but this is opening up a wound that we had only put a band aid over in the past.. let’s tear it off and perhaps we will find that the wound of racism and judging people by the color of their skin never really healed… or we can just get a new band aid and keep pretending that this isn’t still happening in 2008…

You are right, racism has not healed… problem is it has spread and it is not as one sided as the reverend preaches. And by the way Black people are not the only minority in the scheme of thinngs, in fact they are becoming more of a majority. If it were then you would not see many blacks in the profession that they are in today, and certainly not running for President.
Racism will never be healed because nooone will allow it too. It is too easy a claim for all sides of the spectrum.

They make me feel ASHAMED..that is the difference I think and I am afraid it always will be. Whether we lived it or read about it in history books.. or both We can never really know as caucasians what it is like to walk in an African American’s shoes and live that every single day. I embrace my racism. I am not ashamed of it…at all. It doesn’t make anyone a bad person. Why must everyone feel that we must all get along and live together? Human nature makes us want to stay with our own kind and we should leave it like that. The forests and oceans are filled with species that all stay with their own kind and protect their own. That is the way it should be and we would all get along together.

I believe Obama should not be held responsible for his pastor’s comments because I know how it is. As an African American, sometimes I leave church disagreeing with the pastor’s sermon. I have attended different churches and it just happens that some pastors are too radical. They remind me of Professors who are bent on teaching their personal opinions rather than fact, I know many people don’t drop such classes. So it’s easy to ask why didn’t Obama leave the church but remember Rev.Wright is just of the many people that make up the church.
I understand why people are worried, but have we ever wondered why all attacks on Obama are things said by his associates? I would worry myself with what Obama has to say. I mean I have heard some white people say hateful things about blacks but that doesn’t make their families/ friends responsible for such remarks. I agree Pastor Wright was wrong and in fact he went over the top especially with the Clinton part but holding Obama responsible is highly judgmental and unfair. By the way, this message was preached in December 07, why is it such an issue now. Pastor Wright suddenly thinks he the spokes person for all colored people, remember he said HIV was an attack on all colored ,NOT blacks alone. It is not time to judge but we should all sit back and interpret his so-called sermon.
I wish Obama all the best, people’s responsible is really outrageous, I wonder what will happen if Obama is the one directly involved.I don’t understand what Fox News wants Obama to do since his denouncement of the pastor is not enough in their opinion. Why should you charge Peter for Paul’s misbehavior. He/She that is not guilty by association should cast the first stone.

I always thought acceptance was part of evolution and I don’t see how getting along together could ever be a bad thing – look at all of the wars that have been waged over religion and race and that’s a good thing? No, I don’t think so -but again just my opinion.

LOOK!! THE EMPORIER HAS NO CLOTHES, HE HAS NO CLOTHES!! I dont see why people are so surprised about finding this out about Obama’s pastor. What’s surprising is that they just found this out “This week”! The Senator has been attending his church for 20 YEARS and the media is just now finding out about this???? Maybe if they were’nt so busy passing out during his rallies or bashing Hillary on “every little thing” then maybe they would have been fair and balanced to realize this about Sen Obmam’s past and brought this up in say… the past 19 debates! Then us Demorcrates would have realized this before running to the polls to “Make a Change” Yeah a change from bad to worse. He’s just Pres Bush…no good judgement! Just a nice man who speaks very well gives great speaches and has a nice voice. But with all the problems of the world now. We dont need anyone who needs on the job training! I still have high regards for CNN. Many of you simply don’t get it. CNN also aired this sermon same day Fox did, but you know FOX will always over emphasize anything they don’t like. Talking about fair game, why would Fox interview Ferraro just for her to come on air to say she’s not sorry. If you don’t want to breed hate in you heart please continue to watch CNN, it gives you a better perspective.
Obama SHOULD NOT be held accountable for the pastor’s comment. He only owes Americans an explanation about his own opinions, period!
By the way, being the President doesn’t mean one will veto everything. The president is not above scrutiny. Please if you believe in Obama’s message of hope and change don’t let it drift away, continue to support him because the road to change is not easy.

I have always had a probalem with Obama. Something just didnt ring true about him but now I know what it is. He is a product of his pastor. To say that he doesnt always agree with his pastor is BS. If he felt that way then he should have separated himself from that church 20 years ago. It’s a little late now to be saying that he doesnt agree with those views. Can you imagine if McCain or Clinton were part of a religion that did not allow african american’s in it? OMG they would be absolutley run out of politics. Does the word “reverse discrimination” come to mind? All this talk of “change” needs to start within Obama’s backyard. How can you expect the U.S. to change if you have beliefs that will set racial relations back to the 1950′s? I don’t particularly care for Clinton but you can bet i’ll vote for her just to keep Obama from the nomination.

Being from Illinois, there are many questionable things about b.hussein obama. Keep track of the Rezko trial. obama has not cared about the State of Illinois, just HIS state of affairs. If you think he is going to be a change, well, think again. He is one of the good ole boys. You know the ones that go to the locked room and make decisions for the good of us all. Ask Southern Illinois voters. We all feel the “money sucking noise” coming from Cook County (Chicago)every April, by our state taxes mainly going there. If you think that Oprah is so great, well she also has a wonderful “new age” religion. This has been going on for many years. Check out the trial and see how obama is kept out of the whole deal. At the primary here, a little lady asked if this man O’bama was Irish. If he was, he would not declare that. I feel sorry for his grandparents that raised him. They are white you know, the evildoers, according to his beloved preacher. I only wish that I could have purchased my home for the cost of one-thind less than appraised. It’s in our newspapers. Thank you for finally seeing what we have known for a time. Senator Hillary will be the best choice. Appreciation goes to the media that is not so biased to bring forth the truths we so richly deserve if we are voters or not. How many could be sorry for their vote in the primaries before this mess is over?
Did you know that Senator Hillary Clinton was born in Illinois? He claims this state,but——-

Of course we cannot hold obama responsible for the words of his pastor but if we are smart we will connect the dots and read between his lies and see Obama for what he is and who he is…. he should not be responsible for his wife’s anti-american sentiments..she obviously is not as smart or cunning as he is and does, thankfully, slip up and reveals herself to us…do we really want to take the chance on electing as president an unkown entity with a very spotty history…which includes anit-white, anti-semetic, anti-american…what has he accomplished that is worth taking this chance?
Think people…things could get a lot worst..

In times like this I feel like “NOSTRADOMIS” himself ! Since I started watching the Newspapers and networks pandering the man, and acting as though He was the “first coming” , I told all my close friends and associates that the truth shall prevail, and Barac Husseim Obama’s own pastor and religious advisor has made my prediction show the truth. I was very proud of Mrs. Ferraro, and still am. God Bless America, and my fellow patriotic veteran , our future Comander-in-chief, ” JOHN McCain.

I am sick and appalled that CNN and MSNBC have just completely and thoroughly ignored the issue of Obama’s pastor. It isn’t about the actions of the pastor – it about Obama’s lack of reaction to this man! If Obama doesn’t agree with his pastor, then he must show the courage and integrity to break off all relationship with such a hate filled venonous man. If, over the past 20 years, he’s been too timid or intimidated to stand up to his pastor and friend; then how, as President, could he possibly stand up for me as an American against Americas’ foes?

People you are so naive…no one goes to a church,a temple or other place of worship unless you are one who is among it’s choir…there are sooo many christian church’s in this country..wonderful afro-ameican churches he could have chosen…but he didn’t for TWENTY YEARS!!!!!!this hatefilled pastor Married him, baptised his children, was his mentor ..It is more important to watch one’s actions than to listen to his lies…and it would have been good if he showed up to work at congress more than just 40% of the time…our tax dollars again wasted by a man who threatens to raise them a lot more…this election is a sad joke!!

Now I know why obama turns his back on the American flag and will not wear a flag pin on his lapel as do other Senators. It’s against his religion. There is no other country in the world where unpatriotism would be tolerated.Only in America.
I can barely guess to think why SOME of the Kennedy Clan could praise and promote him. JFK was a real patriot.
Did you ever hear of the old saying “flash in the pan”? Well it seems the gold miners in the west, years ago said this when they saw a brilliant flash in their mining pans and then discovered it was nothing but fools gold ( pyrite). It looked so good and they were so excited and cheered and jumped and yelled ( just like obama-mania) but,as we now know that pyrite is yellow and smells like sulfur and that smell is referred to in the Bible as hades. So now, is that a comparison or not? I only hope that the young people listen to their elders who remember and have the experience to tell them what sacrifices they will have to make when we see this next recession. It is surely coming. Please consider this when you go to the polls and vote. Pennsylvania and the other states voting soon.
Oops, just saw on CNN that obama rejects not everything the pastor W said, just the personal remarks against the country and other personal things against Senator Clinton. Think he is getting the message? Toooooooo late! After 20 years, think its time? It is so sad that this is turning out to be a race- gender debate and not about the important issues facing America.
Senator Clinton would be denounced by certain media outlets if she so much as had on the wrong lipstick. It’s just not fair. How does he get so much leeway? What’s in it for the finger pointers? Control? Of what? He is certainly not prepared to lead our wonderful U.S.A. God Bless us all.

JAKE TAPPER deserves a courage in journalism award for digging after the truth. I don’t really care for racial politics, would not like to see it as part of the campaign, but in fact, this rascist character is clearly on the OBAMA campaign. OBAMA better kick him off and right quick or OBAMA is damaged goods. The Pennsylvania train is going to roll right over him. Can’t say I didn’t warn you OBAMA team.

“PRChristian”,
We have common ground. However, I really don’t care what Obama’s pastor spews, I don’t care how often Obama has heard it. I listen to Rush Limbaugh all the time and don’t believe a word he says. In this case, I only care that Obama has sanctioned the rascist fellow by having the guy sit on a campaign committee. This says something extremely negative about Obama’s judgement. Didn’t Trent Lott lose the his Senate Majority leadership role by a similar failure in judgement, just a mere mention of an endorsement of a rascist colleague?

Suzalee – do you really believe that you can make a blanket statement like that? I have been an active church-goer for 20+ years and I have NEVER purchased a tape to hear a sermon that was missed. Until there is some kind of evidence that he did purchase and listen to the tapes while claiming to be unaware of the statements, these kind of statements are judgmental and ridiculous.

Obama is no longer a viable candidate for President. His actions time and again do not support the words he speaks that someone else has told him to say. Hopefully now we can repair the damage done by this Flam Flam Obama Man to the DNC by moving beyond this character’s reignition of racial divisions. We need to focus on the mess Bush is saddling us with. We have wasted way too much opportunity, time and an unGodly amount of money with this FRAUD. Let’s get back to the real world.

I am sick that we have let this scoundral Obama get this far and this close to the Presidency. Anyone who pays $22,000/year to fund someone who says Americans deserved to be slaughtered on 9/11 has no business thinking he could ever be our Commander in Chief – whose top priority is to protect ALLL American citizens.

Hello highstakes: I believe that Obama will get past this. I believe more people understand that pastors say a lot of things that they don’t personally agree with. I’ve been reading articles all day of people who identify with this. Let’s just wait and see what happens. Especially since now Rev Wright is no longer associate with the campaign

Obama is finished, and rightly so. Poor ol’ Romney was grilled by the MSM about his mormonism to no end. They ruined his chances. I didn’t hear any Clinton supporters (who now consider FOX to be fair and balanced-isn’t that precious)or Obama supporters (who now suddenly see the wisdom of paying no mind to a candidate’s religious affiliations)berating the old media for demanding that Romney explain the Mormon Church’s actions in 1881! Our press corps in this country are the real losers here. They’re once again a day late and a dollar short. Here’s to the blogosphere spreading the word about this dangerous nut-ball who would be president. He’d sell us out in a minute. He doesn’t even like us. It’s not surprising that every tin-pot dictator and leftist tyrant in the world is praying that the fraudulent one gets elected. Let’s hope the American people come to their senses.

I feel like I’ve been bamboozled. I can’t believe I voted for a man that listened to this racist, anti-American garbage for 20 years. Not only THAT, he financially supported it and subjected his small daughters to it. The MSM has bought his post-racial, uniter not a divider LIE lock, stock and smoking barrel. They need to be ashamed of themselves. Obama is obviously a total fraud and a fake.

People we need to check this guy’s past. We are voting for president! I need all the facts not just the good ones. I can’t stand that he lied just to save his ambition. he have not heard this for 20 years? are you kidding me? think something believable. please!

Doesn’t this remind you of Rick’s comment in CASABLANCA: “Of all the gin mills in the world, they had to pick this one.”
True in Obama’s case. He and his wife could have chosen a black church in Chicago that didn’t spout America bashing from the pulpit on a routine basis–with congregationers applauding wildly and cheering as the remarks became more and more anti-white, anti-American.
But Obama was completely unaware of all this over a period of some twenty years. He never heard anything “divisive” coming from this pastor with fire in his belly. Totally unbelievable!
That’s like Claude Rains saying: “Gambling! I’m astonished!” before picking up his winnings. Sounds like life imitating the movies!
Posted by: Neil | March 15, 2008, 2:21 pm 2:21 pm
I find his explanation as to why he has not left this church unbelievable . As the wife of a pastor, all I can say is that either Obama was asleep while his pastor preached and judging by his wife’s recent comments, she was not, or he is trying to cover up. He is a typical politician.
My children voted for him in the primaries in the states where they live. But they are p.k.s so they now realize he is just another politician. How sad!

Please fellow democrats in the remaining primary states, understand the gravity of this story. Obama is no longer electable, there is nothing he can say that will be credible. It’s just a matter of time before they prove he was indeed there at one of the hundreds of sermons where these statements were made. I beg of you, correct the mistake us earlier democratic voters made based on a lazy media’s love affair with this fraud.

What are we talking about?….. Yeah It’s about what surrogate says which.
Beyond all the smoke and mirrors of election campaigning, its all about the two persons who are asking for our vote. Whether any one like it are not, we are dealing with two of the best democrats fighting it out. They both are good in their own ways. A very educated, philosophically thinking and good man Barry Obama and a very efficient and intelligent and good woman Hilary Clinton.
He is a professional educator hence sounds convincing with the students and educated people and She is a hard working brilliant professional politician hence resonates well with the common people.
There is lot of truth to the fact that Barry wont be where he is if he is not black and Hillary wont be where if she is not Mrs. Clinton. Hard facts but there is lot of truth to it. But beyond this obvious fact they are the best suited for this job they are fighting for.
But the whole election is about the American people. What they are made of? Beyond all the equality to the women and nonwhites, it is very obvious in many ways that its Male dominated society. Hence I feel many voters would rather vote for a Man than voting for a women even if he is black, brown, yellow or any other color. It’s for the same reason why even if Hillary is elected she wouldn’t be able to do many things as men could do. But it’s only a process. This election process has exposed many of the social stigmas that other members of the society (non-white males) faces in every day life.
This does not mean that every one who voted for Barack didn’t vote for his philosophy, his vision, intelligence or his convictions. Some voted for the phenomenon and some for the color and others for the candidate. Similarly some voted for the women, some voted for the survivor, some for the brilliant politician, rest did vote for their beliefs.
Hence, the election is about THE AMERICAN PEOPLE their beliefs and US and actions. There is more at stake than the color or the gender. It’s about how DEEP or SHALLOW we are. Prove to yourself!!!!!!!!
VOTE for the BEST…

Obama Attended Hate America Sermon
Sunday, March 16, 2008 7:14 PM
By: Ronald Kessler
Contrary to Senator Barack Obamas claim that he never heard his pastor Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. preach hatred of America, Obama was in the pews last July 22 when the minister blamed the white arrogance of Americas Caucasian majority for the worlds suffering, especially the oppression of blacks…..Obama claimed, The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity [United Church of Christ] or heard him utter in private conversation. In fact, Obama was present in the South Side Chicago church on July 22 last year when Jim Davis, a freelance correspondent for Newsmax, attended services along with Obama. In his sermon that day, Wright tore into America, referring to the United States of White America and lacing his sermon with expletives as Obama listened. Hearing Wrights attacks on his own country, Obama had the opportunity to walk out, but Davis said the senator sat in his pew and nodded in agreement. Addressing the Iraq war, Wright thundered, Young African-American men were dying for nothing. The illegal war, he shouted, was based on Bushs lies and is being fought for oil money. ..…© 2008 Newsmax. All rights reserved.

I am of mixed race AND Jewish.
Odd that i read much regarding Rev. Wright and his beliefs well over a year ago, so how is it Obama was unaware of and had not ever heard these comments?
That is a beyond belief ridiculous assumption and since when did someone’s religion really “not” matter?
I would say the religion of Jim Jones and his followers very much mattered, just as the religion of the Branch Davidians mattered.
The old saying that religion and politics are to remain off topic is here rendered dangerously antiquated.
No, one’s religious beliefs do indeed matter as does choice of association. This is not some televangelist giving a Republican an endorsement, this was the breeding ground of Obama and his wife.
I am tired of the double standards here.
African Americans defend this racist rhetoric, exclaiming, defending and justifying it because it was a church born of slavery.
That was 142 years ago, yet it was only 52 years ago that the religious and political beliefs of many Germans that lead to a little thing called the Holocaust.
Obama has sat in the pews of this church for over 2o years and never once had the courage to denounce this rhetoric, and it’s a bit like his all too convenient absenteeism during many votes over the last three years.
What I see here is a frightening pattern of Obama’s lack of moral courage.

I am all for a brother of color occupying the White House, it’s long past time.
Likewise, I am for a woman occupying the White House since Europe has had female leadership for over 300 years.
However, if we intend to really progress then it’s time we see a true leader of color who does not see color, nor does not cry color and especially does not allow his campaign to imply color whenever things aren’t going quite
right.
That is the only true way we can, as a people and as a nation, truly progress in unity.
Personally, I’d like to see either McCain or Clinton pick Erik Rush as a running mate because he would be a far more effective, progressive and healing
leader than Obama, who will cause increasing division if he wins.
Something I’d like to see someday;
Erik Rush for president.

My friends, we have to move beyond this. In our nation, free speech is our constitutional right. The solution is that one must not mix politics with religion. Evangelicals have also made controversial remarks in our history and continue to make divisive remarks. The Presidential candidates need to focus on the issues. How does a remark made by a preacher improve our economy? Is this all the dirt Obama’s detractors can find? We must move on.

Doesn’t it seem just a little odd that when Obama gets busted for fratranizing with strange bed fellows that he suddenly has this overwhelming idea to dismiss the naughty behavior & says it shouldn’t be a part of the political race. Now why is he making up the idea that we only talk about what he wants us to talk about?? His seedy bed fellows are something everyone should be talking about since he is applying for more than a position at the local car wash. When his wash gets hung out on the line there is a reason we all are interested in wether it is sqweeky clean & ready for the WHITE House. He is not who he says he is. We want to know if these bed fellows are going to follow him to the White House & if so, we are sooo in trouble.
Posted by: seasoned | March 17, 2008, 6:52 pm 6:52 pm
Yes, isn’t “that” remarkable?
Obama & his camp, in a shrewd, underhanded effort, cry “we’re concentrating too much on racial division” “in response” to racially divisive rhetoric being spewed from “his” pastor and admitted mentor.
Crying racism over reaction to their racism.
Yet, Mr. Obama today made a comment regarding the hypocrisy of Clinton’s war vote, while he himself said, in 04, that he was in agreement with Bush over the war, a question he dodged in the last debate and a question his campaign has to continually dodge.
A holier than thou facade from probably the shrewdest campaign since Bush’s.
If Obama wins, and he may very well do that, we are going to go back a good 50 years in racial advancement, not to mention having yet another extremely incompetent regime in the White House.
Posted by: edhillfiker | March 17, 2008, 7:18 pm 7:18 pm
No matter what is said tomorrow in the speech, there are some fundamental judgement and honesty issues that will not disappear. He must rebuild that trust and it won’t happen this year. From the beginning he dodged the tough questions. His campaign and the media were too quick to address female concerns as “whining” and race issues as “racial”. He wanted to act like an evangelical minister and wow us. I started last fall voting FOR Hillary and by late January I was voting AGAINST Obama. It will take time before Mr. Obama can honestly address the race issue with us and we can believe it. I know several Hillary supporters that would not vote if he were even the VP candidate. I feel he has failed in some core value areas.

Sen. Obama will never be ever to build the trust that was lost because of his involvement with Mr. Wright. I have lost respect for Mr. Obama in every terms because he supported such a dispicable act against this beloved country and mostly to our forefathers
who bravely given their lives for such blessed freedom we all cherish today.
How can I respect such men who preach so much hatred, so much anger, so much unholiness. This is very sad day for AMERICA!

So Wright was the leader of Obama’s African American Religious Leadership Committee. Well, we know what knid of leadership they were advocating. Does this also mean that Obama isn’t interested in the religious voices of ALL Americans? From Wright’s rhetoric, I’m afraid the answer to that question in NO. It is time for Obama to withdraw from the presidential race.
Posted by: David | March 17, 2008, 8:55 pm 8:55 pm
The issue here is not Rev Wright. The issue is the character of the man who would be President. How does one judge character? Actions speak louder than words? Sen Obama has been affiliated with this church for 20 plus years. That is an action by his own choice. This church has ties with Louis Farrakahn. Sen Obama must know of this. Yet he maintains his membership in this church and has it’s principle leader as an active part of his campaign. Now he wants everyone to believe he did not know all of this stuff. Tomorrow I guess he will get up and say Black people see everything differently and that justifies the statements and preaching of Pastor Wright and justifies his continued association with him. That is his choice but the Black people I know don’t like what Pastor Wright is saying any better than I do. So tomorrow I guess he will paint American Blacks as a people seeing things differently than White folks. Come together???? We will come together when people stop judging others by the color of their skin, when we judge someone by the content of their character. Sen Obama, you have flunked the test.

“Obama acknowledges, with no small irony, that he benefits from his race. If he were white, he once bluntly noted, he would simply be one of nine freshmen senators, almost certainly without a multimillion-dollar book deal and a shred of celebrity. Or would he have been elected at all?”
And his campaign attacked Ferraro for saying exactly the same thing. What a slime ball.

This should not be about Hillary nor Obama but about America. We are still showing the world that we are of this world. Why are we focusing on the wrong instead of the right. Christ came preaching peace and love not hate and division. This country seems to be more divided and race (black & white & brown & yellow and red. Why not go back to the beginning, when all men were suppose to be equal. Has that really changed today. God have mercy on us.

Comments, regardless from where they are made, and two whom they are addressed, describe the feelings, beliefs, and culture of the person. As a man of God, Rev. Wright has a duty to teach his pupils from the Bible and be a source of spiritual support to his congregation while at the pulpit and outside the church. His actions make it clear that his intentions are not to serve God by doing this, but rather create antimocity by using abrasive language and idiological comparisons.
Then back to the first sentence; what does this say about Obama’s character, for looking to such a contemptible influence as his spiritual light.

This Obama candidate is a nightmare and so bad for USA ..it’s making me sick. This campaign keeps spinning webs, playing the race card, (must be from years of being brainwashing at Trinity) to the hilt.. What Geraldine Ferraro’s said really is so true..if any other person came into this presidential race with this much baggage they would have been laughed off and never have recieved any backing what so ever..(and her comment wasnt anyway near as detrimental and evil as what Wright said..OMG.WAKE UP!!) Obama is getting so much better media coverage and deals over all..WHY IS THE MEDIA KEEP DOING THIS??!!.Yahoo is so one sided it’s scary & making me ill too; saying stuff like “thank goodness he made that speech ..it saved his campaign” .etc etc..(btw..Who owns YAHOO??) It is in the toilet and has been from day one….I’m so sad with the way the majority of black voters can’t see how bad this Obama is for all of us….always siding with Obama no matter what..I’m convinced that if Obama was sporting horns and a tail and doing ritual sacrifices on the white people ..they would have justification rhetoric and continue to sing praises and think he’s just great!. Obama is bad for all of us in the USA not only the whites……ABC seems to be about the only media taking all sides into consideration..thank you ABC.. Obama Step Out, you are twisted beyond repair..(How much more crap does the American people have to learn about you..you’ve let everyone down especially yourself.) and certainly not any “chief citizen” spreading goodwill and hope to war torn America that we want or need..I’m afraid you and your evil buddies want to blow up the white House next..for your big climactic event “change” finale for USA..

I didn’t hear anything different from Mr. Obama’s speech on how he ended up attending to Wright’s ministries for over 20 years. Why is he just distancing himself now and now and not since 1980 when OPRAH realized it was a mistake. He continues to defend this man he so called “Uncle” despite of his despicable rhetoric agains another race, against his own country and using the “N” word in front of children (including Obama’s) who have been attending his ministries. Yet all these parents including Sen. Obama and his wife Michelle continued to attend and let their children listen to the pastor’s
preached of hatred and racism. Black or White if anyone preaches hatred, racism and bigotry – It is wrong and it needs to stop or at least be condemned. Someone like Sen. Obama who preaches transparency, equality and a uniter who attended in such event full of hatred ministries is so hard to comprehend and heart flattened. What is the difference between a radical muslim preachers who preaches the downfall and death of America to their followers and turn around and blow themselves up killing innocent people to Mr. Wright’s preaching of hatred against race and damning AMERICA in front of his followers who Sen. Obama happened to be one of them? I admired Sen. Obama before, his speeches are magnificent. Now that I know the true Sen. Obama, that he is no different to others who promised us Hope – Audacity of Hope as he called it – to find out later that it’s all just speeches and worst integrated with lies. I am scared of his belief, his stance on AMERICA and the race so as an Independent I am no longer voting for him. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Mainstream Media especially “CNN” has been bias on their journalistic reporting. I commend and respect ABCNews for not following CNN’s footstep of harboring or favoring a candidate (Obama) for corporate gain. I would recommend all bloggers to check out ABCNews if they are looking for fair journalism.

It seems so narrow sighted to me that race is almost always defined in this country as a black and white issue. I understand to some degree how the white European/black African history in the context of this nation is such a polarizing force however lets not forget that we are a nation of many colors, creeds and cultures. As an example the Japanese were a mortal enemy that attacked our homeland. We violated our constitution by putting into camps thousands of Asian American citizens without Due process, we even nuked them for God sakes but today we live in this country with tens of thousands of Japanese Americans without near the divisiveness that exist between blacks and whites. Why is that? Come on America let’s move on. The problems of the past must be put behind us. We can all live together if we cast off the chips so many of us continue to carry on our shoulders. I believe that much of this ” Racial divide” as it is so commonly referred to as, exist because of pride. Pride is not a bad thing, Most people recognize the Japanese people as a proud and honorable culture however they accepted the realities of the times and forged on, rebuilding their lives and taking part in the American dream when they too could have easily griped and moaned about their predicament and in turn institutionalized their resentment and hatred into generations of offsprings. Having said all that let me say that what concerns me most about this debate is Senator Obamas seemingly poor decision making process in naming this man to his African American Religious Leadership Committee. We need someone who makes good decisions now more than ever. I’m a little worried that he didn’t see this coming.

So what? Should the Rev. Wright be lynched for his words? Why don’t we subject executives costing people and their families their lives, pensions, jobs to at least the comparable scrutiny?
Obama spoke with integrity and honesty; should we just indulge in bickering for the sake of bickering?
Should we dissect everything for the political strategy’s sake and not listening to the possibly genuine (rather than cynical) remarks.
Don’t we want to try to know who these people are, rather than what their campaign strategy may be? Will this not matter to our future? Campaign promises are made and often quickly forgotten (think about the current administration’s campaign platform), but people’s inner core remains for better or for worse.
How shallow can we be? Should be focus so much on race as opposed to culture? I’ve been to black churches (I’m white) and seen a very different CULTURE: how people speak and interact is often more meaningful than the actual words said. Unlike a Baptist preacher, a black person whit a Wall Street suit, demeanor and language is often accepted as “white.”
And, Obama included, how is it that anyone with a skin tinge is automatically black in America? Shouldn’t we expand our vocabulary just a little but? Some of the “African Americans” I’ve seen or met look more white than me. Is it than a simple black/or white question?
We keep oversimplifying to the point of distraction.
And, really, does anyone sincerely believe that our actions around the world have absolutely nothing to do with other’s willingness to do us harm?
Let’s grow up.

People are surprised and shocked to learn the truth about this slickster? How naive, how childlike. I posted an item about this empty suit when he first had the audacity to equate himself to Abraham Lincoln while declaring his candidacy in the home of Honest Abe, Springfield Illinois. I sat in front of my TV incredulous at this snake oil salesman tap dancing his way through corny and cheesy platitudes and squishy visions of a pie in the sky version of his America all the while wincing each time he invoked childlike phrases like locking hands across America, or united we can accomplish the highest of dreams ugh! someone please hand me the airsick bag! Don’t you remember (look it up) the last guy that asked you for your vote so he could bring America together, Richard M. Nixon. That’s right. The best is yet to come Obamaites. The trial of his benefactor Rezko is just underway (being ignored by the mainstream press) Tidbit: The Obamas want a house but the house costs over a million. Rezko buys it and sells it to the Obamas for half its worth. What does Rezko get in return? Maybe Obama is right if you hope and dream hard enough you can get a million dollar home for half price. Hope and dreams to you.

1. The most frequent defense I hear in this case relies on the old ‘separation of religion and politics ‘ thing but this does not jive in that I never once heard Rev. Wright even talk of God in this rant.
No, this church establishes itself as a political entity and therefore should be investigated by the IRS.
2. Obama admitted he lied. First, he denied ever once hearing this rhetoric, but then had to admit it after the likelihood of evidence proving the contrary was certain to surface.
The admission that he lied makes him as hypocritical as Spitzer. Both projected a squeaky clean image and Obama has consistently said he is a different type of politician. No, he’s the same and, in the end “Yes we Can” proves as empty and
dumb as “Get er Done”.
3. Weakly excusing this type of rhetoric and blaming it on the media’s misunderstanding of black issues is as phony and as weak an excuse of attempting to blame a murderer’s crimes on his childhood.
This went beyond a mere “White America” has pushed us down, this went into “America invented the AIDS Virus and sells us crack to kill us off”.
Early on, I was undecided. Not now. I could not vote for him with a clear conscience and nothing he can slickly say or day can justify or explain why he compliantly listened to this for 2o plus years and why he did not , like Oprah, take the high moral road and leave.
Sadly, this is not a profile in courage. This is a moral coward.

Obama said his white grandmother is afraid of black men? He uses that to justify his relationship with the racist preacher. Obama has known all along about the anti-American vile outbursts of his idiot preacher. Did you see the people in the church dancing and jumping when the idiot preacher damns America? And Obama wants us to just let it go. Jews, Indians, Asians, Chicanos, Italians, have suffered discrimination not just the blacks. But they don’t preach hate for America. Obama, his preacher and their cronies are all the same. They complain about America but they still enjoy the benefits. Obama has no business defending the racist preacher. Unless he is one himself.

Simple question:
Hilary expects Obama to have left his church pew after hearing the pastor’s racially charged sermon. However, why did Hilary not leave a man whose licit affair not only publicly embarassed her but most importantly their daughter??

If you live in America, then your an American, then you l should act like an American and show your support for America if it’s loyal and true to the people and if your against Capitalism and Freedom, then you should live in another country.
