Richardson to Endorse Obama

ABC News’ Sunlen Miller Reports: Governor Bill Richardson, D-N.M., a former contender for the 2008 Democratic nomination, is set to endorse Senator Barack Obama, D-Ill., on Friday.

According to Obama campaign aides, Richardson will appear at Obama’s rally at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon.

Noting he was "deeply honored" by Richardson’s support Obama said in a released statement, "Whether it’s fighting to end the Iraq war or stop the genocide in Darfur or prevent nuclear weapons from falling into the hands of terrorists, Gov. Richardson has been a powerful voice on issues of global security, peace and justice, earning five Nobel Peace Prize nominations."

Richardson’s endorsement of Obama over Senator Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., is seen as a blow to the Clinton campaign who have a long relationship with the governor. Richardson was Ambassador to the UN under the Clinton administration, and remained friendly with the former President afterward.

Both presidential candidates have courted Richardson’s endorsement actively since the governor bowed out of the race on January 10th after a poor showing in the Iowa caucus. Obama’s Communications Director Robert Gibbs said Obama regularly talked with Richardson on the phone, usually once a week.

In the days leading up to the March 4th primaries Richardson hinted that an endorsement may be coming soon.

Richardson told CBS on March 2nd that, "Whoever has the most delegates after Tuesday should be the nominee."

But after big wins from Clinton in Ohio and Texas leaving no definitive nominee, talk of an impending Richardson endorsement died down, as the race between the candidates heated up once again.

While visiting Richardson’s state in early February, Obama told reporters that then he wasn’t preparing for an endorsement then.

"We have no plans of receiving an endorsement, but I would love to be pleasantly surprised. I’ve had many conversations with Governor Richardson and I’m sure the Clinton campaign has. He is obviously a tremendously important leader in the country. He ran a terrific race this presidential season and I think would make an enormous contribution to any candidate who he chose to support," Obama said at the time.

Richardson’s endorsement makes the third former presidential candidate to endorse Barack Obama, following an early endorsement by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, and a February 26th endorsement by Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn.

obama gets in trouble, obama promises richardson something, richardson endorses. politics as usual. oops, i forgot, obama (allegedly) isn’t the usual politician.
bye bye richardson. credibility and respect gone. and remember, catholics don’t like obama’s hate-filled religious views – not good for your reelection.

and, richardson, good luck selling obama’s stance on partial birth abortion (it’s a good thing for him) to your catholic constituency. (or are you thinking you’ll be vp and won’t care about your constituency any more? dream on!)

I see… he is now running a Presidential campaign. He’ll choose Richardson to hedge one of his problems – Hispanics. I thought he would pick a woman, but this is a good calculation. Like his grandma, he’s throwing the “women-over-40″ vote under the bus. Besides, he can use Michelle to woo some of them back.
His tactic right now is to assume that the racial thing is behind him and that he is the presumptive nominee. He’s finally playing to the Super Delegates… smart move. He is saying to them – look I’ve said my mea culpas for my church, now wouldn’t this be a solid ticket?
If the Wright stuff settles down by next week, I think his calculations will pan out. The only thing to de-rail him would be a huge blow-out in Penn, but it has to be BIG!

whiteman, you’re right that the promise was almost certainly vp. obama wants to con latino voters. ridiculously transparent pandering.
bill clinton made richardson an ambassador and secretary of energy. richardson should be ashamed to do this.
i do recall, however, seeing richardson’s pretty awful performance in debates. between his stumbling and fumbling and obama’s uh, uh, uh, uh, it should be pretty pathetic to watch them try to get elected. i don’t think they’ll stand a chance, especially considering obama’s “typical white person” comments, pastorgate, etc. then richardson will have to go back to new mexico and face the music. serves him right.
love the list you put together!
good night.

smartprimate, the women over 40 aren’t going to be wooed by michelle. most of us despise her (and obama). you’re right that he’s engaging in political calculation and trying to solve his hispanic problem but throwing women under the bus. there are a LOT of women. he may get through the primaries, but in a general – congratulations president mccain.

People do not blame Richardson. Even if it was in his mind to endorse Hillary, the maths does not come out. And to make even the matter worse, is the uncertainity of Michagan & Florida revote.
Why should he endorse someone who he thinks can’t make it!

I thought Obama wanted the superd’s to reflect the will of the people. Well New Mexico came out for Hillary. So I’m sure any moment now Obama will inform Richardson of his mistake.

Americans are impossible! can’t you all just unite? Can’t you? why tear yourselves down always. Why the hatred? You just come on blogs and allow the rest of the world laugh at your ignorance! Americans are thought to be smart educated and open minded, why would any of you see something good and keep painting in bad! why? Your prejudiced minds may explain that. gosh! Stop tainting Obamas’ image ,he is a good man and your leaders see it in him. If you are not willing to vote for him that is fine! keep your votes and vote for your candidates but please learn to see things in its true self. Why force your self to hate when love is calling. This is the 21st century. A century for Healing and love. Stop this hate!

Governor Richardson, this is indeed a bold move and one that can actually draw heat from the radicals in the Clinton camp.
Although I’m sure Senator Obammma appreciates your support you are certain to learn firsthand what Clinton politics are all about.
Man you have to love McCain this election. Poor SOB barely won his own primary and now looks to be the next President.
By the way, if you Clinton fans think we Republicans would rather face Obammmma think again! Clinton has far more for us to talk about and since Obammma won’t use them we have the full arsenal at our disposal. Damn I love liberals!

It is becoming painfully evident that there are millions of Americans out there are deficient in mathematics! There are 10 maybe 11 contests left and these Americans have yet to do the math. Statistically HRC has about a snowball’s chance in hell to win and yet you’re still hanging on to the dream. HRC would have to win Every contest by 56%, a Very tall order. In previous contests, she has won by 53% just 8 out of them. Even if Fla (which is not happening) and Mi (which is not happening) were to count, she would still need to win Every state be 53%. Remember those word math problems in school? This is the scenario which would make for one of those types of interesting math equations. I’ll make it easy for you. Don’t bother, she hasn’t a pray! HRC’s campaign is DOOMED!!! It’s time to get on the Love Train. OBAMA 08!!!

Why does he call himself white man? isn’t his skin color pink? obama is not even an african american he is a racially mix guy with a pink “white” mother and a Brown “black” father, that makes him a 50%50 type of guys and he cannot be bias toward any side.

I am sure this a decision of conviction for Richardson, he didn’t have to do it and was in a very difficult position- This is not necessarily politically beneficial to him – It seems like he is taking great risks in doing so, so he must very strongly believe it is the right thing to do.

your decision will help to built a solid bridge between between different great american communities : white , black and latino .

I supported Bill Richardson’s candidacy, because he has extremely good diplomatic skills and is very well respected.
I’m glad he’s doing the right thing and supporting Obama instead of just “honoring old debts”

The profound ignorance Hillary-supporters show in comments on this site are simply astounding in its brevity.
It’s painful to read through their misinterpretations of reality and propaganda-filled rhetoric. The hate emanating from these people make me cringe. It’s also worth mentioning that they tend to get all of their facts wrong and attribute quotes to Obama that yield a polar opposite view than the one he openly professes.
I came here explicitly to survey to anger of her supporters by the endorsement from Richardson–a man who has seen Hillary work behind the scenes and blatantly sees her for the corporate whore that she is–and I found what I fully expected to witness.
A few supporters attacking a man whom they would have praised endlessly if he had endorsed Hillary. A man constantly attributed by the Clinton campaign as being “experienced just like us”. But, apparently all that disappears now and now he is selfishly lambasted by Clintonites because of his honesty.
I fear the future of this nation is this type of thought-process continues. The same kind that got Bush elected. The longer Hillary remains in the race, the longer the party remains divided, and the longer smear tactics are used rather than substance.

What a slap in the face to the Clintons. Richardson stay home and get a new hairpiece. You r a total loser. I hope Hillary remebers this in the future. You and Obama can take a hike !!

Finally, a super delegate with the courage to do the right thing.
I applaud you Gov. Richardson!

Richardson just sold the Hispanics down the river. Obama is running ads here that say 40% of the black men are out of work in this country because the Mexicans came here and took their jobs. I wonder what their excuse was before. Then Ricahrdson endorses this racist anti-American? Obama just promised him vp to get him to endorse him. He is really nothing or he would still be in the race for President.

Posted by: Melanie | March 21, 2008, 6:48 am 6:48 am

Melanie, please tell me where you are and where that add is running. I woul love to see that ad. I sincerely doubt it’s from the Obama camp. He’s spent the better part of the year explaining that the lack of jobs has nothing to do with immigration.
Can you spend more time explaining the ad? I’m interested in researching it’s origin.

I hate to say this, but I am starting to think some of this is about the old boys guard not really wanting a woman in the top job. Kerry, Dodd, Bradley, Kennedy and now Richardson. They are all willing to back a man with light experience, major political disadvantages, and who can’t seem to shore up the blue collar solid democratic brackets. Why? Perhaps the just don’t want a girl doing the job they all failed to get. I mean, it’s okay for Obama to cry discrimination.. what about Hillary? Maybe some of these old liberal guards are just a little annoyed at a woman gaining such prominence? Progressives…right!

When Clinton supporters begin posting links to articles written about Democrats by conservatives you know they are desperate.
Here’s a little insight into Shelby Steele.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelby_Steele
Mimi,
Since you are quoting Shelby Steele is it safe to assume the Clinton campaign supports Mr. Steele’s position on issues such as affirmative action and other “liberal” policies?

Posted by: Finally | March 21, 2008, 7:09 am 7:09 am

Do you really think that Obama will be able to bild a bridge between different american communities? Up to this he has unfortunately polarized opinions and created tensions between the blacks and whites. He should wait until 2012! Otherwise the democrats will not be able to beat the republicans and you will have a republican president for another four years.

Reader in Georgia:
I can honestly say the thought of the “boys club” has crossed my mind as well. I sincerely hope that’s not the case because that would be as much an injustice as discrimination against Senator Obama.
I do believe Senator Clinton is experiencing some discrimination as a female candidate but I don’t think the Richardson endorsement is about her gender. I’ve made that assumption purely based on Gov. Richardson’s close relationship with the Clintons.
There seems to be more to this and I’m sure there are some politics involved just as there are politics behind every endorsement. Yet, it is interesting to see yet another Clinton ally switching sides.
That has to be a tough pill for Bill to swallow more so than it is for Hillary. At some point I don’t care which candidate you support you eventually get the feeling all of this is just a play on our emotions.
Seriously, who are we really fooling? Hillary and Barack don’t have many material differences in their political platforms once you get down to the details.

That’s the bigger issue for Democrats isn’t it? Trust me, it’s the same dilemma I face when considering a vote for Senator Obama. I know many of the blue collar Democrats (with the exception being African Americans)will find it difficult to ever vote for Obama.
The dilemma is the same in the Clinton camp. Outside of some of the African American super delegates less than 10% of the African American community will support Hillary in the general election.
This is truly a disaster for the Democratic Party. Both sides are digging in so deep that neither is willing to see the big picture.
How do we reconcile the party regardless of the candidate? That’s the real question.

God, you Americans are such nattering idiots. You have a great potential President in Barack Obama, and the mindless filth you spew at him, that his middle name is Hussein, that he won’t wear a lapel pin, or hold his hand on his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance means he is not patriotic, blah, blah, blah, shows that you are such damn fools. Oh well. Any country that elected, and then re-elected George W. Bush has shown that it is irretrievably incompetent and senile.

I think its interesting that a lot of the posts on this thread are from Clinton supporters. The truth is that Hillary cannot win the nomination without the support of superdelegates (even with FL and MI). Every high profile super d that goes for Obama is one last drop of hope dripping away from her chances.
Overall with the speech earlier in the week and the general tone of the Obama campaign, I would say that a week that could have killed his chances has gone pretty well. Clinonistas can hardly claim he isn’t battle tested anymore.

Melanie – i believe “their” “excuse” before the Mexicans arrived was something called slavery.
I am white, middle class, British, and objectively i think Obama would be the best thing that could happen to your country.
The world at large despises you for Iraq and you re-elected Bush. Personally i think Bush has done a lot of damage to your country.
Clinton or McCain cannot repair this. Clinton has too much baggage, Is disliked by everyone i’ve discussed this with in my country (Britain) and she does not have the pragmatism or diplomacy to be commander in chief. She is too volatile. McCain is a war-monger too and as such would keep you in a war nobody wants, whilst throwing you into more. Clinton and McCain want to jump into Iran. Way to fire up the extremists!!
Obama is pragmatic and intelligent, wants a non-military solution to Iran.
The world is watching, I just hope we don’t watch you make political fools of yourselves yet again
Good luck!

The headline reads “Richardson throws support behind Obama”. I think a more appropriate headline would have been “ANOTHER former Clinton supporter throws her under the bus too!” Clinton’s supporters are engaged in a mass exodus from her campaign. So are Obama’s. The way the democrats are eating each other up (and I love it), the race in November will be McCain vs McCain!

Clinton Supporters and Obama Supporters:
Enough is enough. We are killing our parties chances of winning the White House in November and if you are willing to vote for McCain instead of Senator Clinton or Senator Obama you simply do not believe in the principles of the Democratic party.
Hillary, Barack, Howard (Dean) and other party officials please get behind closed doors and work something out. This is beyond ridiculous. I don’t care if you go get Edwards and make him the nominee but work something out before these immature supporters cost us the general election.
If Hillary is so passionate about Health Care make her the Secretary of Health and Human Services. If Barack thinks he can make the world a better place make him the Secretary of State.
Hell reverse the roles, at this point I don’t care. Most of the crap we’re reading about these candidates, GOOD AND BAD, is fabricated or exaggerated so let’s just get back to the business of the party and the PEOPLE!

I think that the importance of “big name” super delagates is over estimated. There was a lot of fanfare when Kennedy announced for Obama yet he lost Massachussets. And Ted Kennedy is not heard of at all nowadays.
Which are the remaining primary states with a big Latino population where Bill Richardson can get out the votes for Obama ?And how much influence does he have over Latino voters anyway?Remember Clinton won New Mexico.
Its the people who ultimately matter not the super delegates with their axes to grind.

I’m genuinely perplexed. I know Richardson isn’t the smartest man there is, but endorsing Obama on the worst week of his political career, when his candidacy is hemorrhaging, just doesn’t make sense!
I’m thinking blackmail/extortion or payoff – from either Obama or the DNC working behind the scenes so that they can resuscitate the candidacy of someone they never fully vetted. And, have the voters think that all that we heard this week was “no big deal”. DNC and Obama – you can’t that easily “turn the channel.”

Posted by: s. valenti | March 21, 2008, 7:59 am 7:59 am

Richardson endorsed Obama because he is looking for either VP or in his administration. I am surprised that he would back stabbed the Clinton’s after he worked in their cabinet. That in its self tells you what kind of person he is. If Hillary doesn’t win the nomination I hope her voters are smart enough to switch their vote to McCain so Obama can’t become president of this country. He doesn’t deserve it. And we don’t want a worse disaster than what Bush did.

Finally
I can’t believe you would vote Democrat no matter who the candidate is? Obama is a disgrace to the Democratic Party who will destroy this country if he is elected! I care more about my son’s future than I care about a Political Party! If the Superdelegates can’t stand up and pick the best candidate for this country, I will vote Republican. The reason Obama is where he is that the young, black and some sexist males made this an American Idol contest rather than voting on true experience, knowledge, judgement, character, etc.

Posted by: dfinke | March 21, 2008, 8:01 am 8:01 am

You guys are all wrong. This is damage control because the Democratic Party is in big trouble for the breach of security. It turns out that the breach happend at the time of the New Hampshire Primary, the Texas Debate, and when Hillary released the Wright video. And an African American supporter of Hillary Clinton was the manager at the time. And this is even bigger because McCain may be involved as well. That is why Huckabee is getting publicity now, too. By the end of the day, Obama and Huckabee might be running against each other.

I am not surprised that New Mexico is supporting Obama…they are cut from the same fabric…..minority….I guess New Mexico sees this as their chance to get even with the United States for whatever it is that they think we did to them…..At least now we know how New Mexico hates the United States…Anyone voting for that traitor is just like him….

Both Dem candidates have charactar flaws so big you could drive a Mack truck through them. Hillary – for whom there is no depth too low for her to stoop. Obama who would expose his kids to a good dose of hate speech at least once a week on Sunday – just to make sure they don’t ever cross the line in their affections and actually like “w*hitey’s”. What a pair!

These comments make me embarrassed for our country. Hillary and her supporters are beyond pathetic now, I just can’t imagine that these people are making the same mistakes that we made in the previous two elections. Is this the definition of insanity? Will no one learn anything from disaster?
Please people, educate yourselves for the good of the nation. America cannot survive as a country without a stark change in direction.
The ignorance displayed here is depressing to say the least. It’s as if millions of minds have irrevocably brain-washed.

Daniel: Would you like someone to call you mother a whore? Richardson is no big deal and he isn’t all Mexican he is only half like Obama is not all black. I hope whoever looked at Obama’s files will come out with something the media don’t know. There are more than passport files in there. Obama is a liar, fake and a copier of others speeches because he’s too dumb to form his own. I was aware of the fact that Richardson would endorse Obama. It was just a matter of time. But Hillary won New Mexico regardless. White people should wake up and smell the coffee brewing. Obama does not like whites like you think, he just does a good job of hiding it and Richardson is in his league.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | March 21, 2008, 8:12 am 8:12 am

I completely agree with you, Daniel. I too have been depressed and anxious when reading many of these comments. I would ask, since when it is a Christian or American value to leap to judgment? And how many of these folks have ever even come close to walking in the shoes of nonwhite Americans?
I am a middle-aged white American woman, who sees so much defensiveness and hatred in the reactions of typical white Americans–and yes, since they (we) are the mainstream, the word “typical” IS appropriate. We all need to listen, to reason with judgment, and to give all of the candidates the benefit of the doubt. When I look at Clinton’s vs. Obama’s plan for getting us out of Iraq, I truly believe that Obama’s plan is the best–he acknowledges that things amy change between now and when and if he is elected, but the two brigades a month sounds good. I also like that he would listen to the commanders in the field and the chiefs of staff.
I do worry that millions of US citizens have been brainwashed to swllow soundbites and then defend their robotic kneee-jerk reactions. Obama has more faith in us right now than I do.

Posted by: anotherpatricia | March 21, 2008, 8:14 am 8:14 am

Please watch your language when you refers to the future President of the USA MR. OBAMA. No matter how you get there is not second time around for Hillary Clinton. Enough is enough! Perhaps she wants to take a revenge for what her husband did to her with Monica? I think that was the name of that student right?

Posted by: Ann Marie | March 21, 2008, 8:14 am 8:14 am

An excellent move from Richardson, a well thought and a well done one at the right time. Hilary must be told in clear terms that she is in the SECOND place. The figures in delegate count, popular vote, states won and fund raised should have more than enough facts for Hilary, had she own a sound conscience. She better decide to leave the race for the benefit of the people, the party and for herself too.
It is time to unite and compete with the Republicans.
Obama, you are really a “once in a generation leader”, you not only unite Amarica but the World too.

I love Hillary Clinton and trust her to make good decisions for all of us in the White House as commander and chief.. I do not trust Obama one bit..I feel in my heart Richardson was paid off in some way by Obama considering the majority of his state voted for Hillary…and I think based on what I’ve read and seen he makes very poor judgements…such as the inability to take a stand as Senator..cant say yay or nay?..his 20 year racist church going….his Rezko supporter tied to blood money from Iraq.. The majority of Voters want and voted for Hillary…..please everyone get involved at your local voting poles..i feel as though there has and will be cheating and we need to make sure this November election is fair, with no cheating allowed, and not corrupted..And i am sure Hillary Clinton will come out ahead and win by a land slide majority…

Posted by: skypawny | March 21, 2008, 8:15 am 8:15 am

Peace: Because Richardson is looking for something and he feels that he will get it from Obama if Obama wins. But if Hillary doesn’t win the nomination her voters should switch their vote to McCain and give him a landslide to knock Obama from being president. This should all be prepared in advance so the voters know what to do. America is not ready for him and may never be. This country don’t need another disaster like Bush put us into. And Obama cannot clean up the mess, he is in a mess himself.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | March 21, 2008, 8:16 am 8:16 am

Nothing bold about this endorsement. Richardson held out to see who had the better chance of wining, now that there are no do overs in Fl and MI. As for the Hispanic votes, Richardson did not attract Hispanics to vote for him, even in New York.

Posted by: evie | March 21, 2008, 8:18 am 8:18 am

Richardsonn has made a bad and disastrous judgement.Democrats have a nack for picking the wrong candidates for winning the general election.Obama’s popularity is on the downswing, all he has going for him is the “math”.Now that he has silenced the people of Florida and Michigan he must be turning a new page in his ambition to be the president. All you Obama supporters make fun as much as you can of Hillary and her supporters ,remember they are in the millions and will have the last laugh.Go McCain.

Bill Richardson is a miniority like Obama and both of them do not like the white people and both of them are good at hiding it. The white people in this country should wake up to that fact and start voting for their own like they use to do. This country is not ready for Obama to become president and may never be. I cannot believe Richrdson would back stab the Clinton’s after Bill Clinton gave him a job in his administration. When someone does it means they cannot be trusted.

All the baloney about the rest of the world hating the U.S. because of Bush is just that: baloney. Both France and Germany have traded in their anti-American presidents for pro-American presidents under Bush. I live in South America and the only ones who hate the U.S. here are either radical leftists, anti-semitic, or communists. For all you Hillary supporters who are whining that Bill Richardson betrayed her, threw her under the bus, stabbed her in the back, blah blah blah: Stop it. Grow up. I think Richardson chose Obama mainly because he discovered that the better he knows Hillary Clinton, the less there is to admire about her. There is little room in Hillary’s heart for anybody but Hillary.
Maybe she can get some votes back by blubbering and crying in public, like she did in New Hampshire. She is good at playing the victim.

Posted by: FilmMD | March 21, 2008, 8:25 am 8:25 am

I am EXTREMEMLY disappointed in Richardson! I do agree that Obama must have promised him the world. This goes against the SuperDelegates voting according to their state…that could be a plus for Hillary to prove to Pelosi that the supers can just vote anyway they want. I STILL don’t believe that Obama is the better candidate. Obama just got another reprieve after a bad media week. ( Ted Kennedy came to his defense last time). I am glad Edwards is staying mum….I hope he hands his delegates to Hillary!

Mr.Richardson,
You are disgracing yourself. Your political ambitious is over for sure due to your stupid judgment.

Posted by: jjym6768 | March 21, 2008, 8:27 am 8:27 am

I already knew that Richardson was going to endorse Obama; it was just a question of when. Richardson is an obvious sell-out who is jockeying for Vice President. The truly sad thing about this is that the media, which is desperate to find something to talk about other than Wright and Rezko since it is hurting “their man,” will now be talking constantly about Richardson’s endorsement.
Richardson is a spineless coward and a backstabber. Fortunately, it’s not going to make an ounce of matter for the remaining states here on out besides maybe PR.

Posted by: jasoninpa10 | March 21, 2008, 8:28 am 8:28 am

Greg, you’re right regarding the Latino vote. But it still speaks volumes that Richardson, who was part of the Clinton administration and was certainly offered the VP by Hillary, would endorse Obama. Hillary must be worse than the public yet knows.

Posted by: Surprised | March 21, 2008, 8:28 am 8:28 am

I applaud Gov. Richardson’s decision to endores Senator Obama. He just proves that all of Hillary’s tactics to take the nomination may not be working.

Posted by: Enrique | March 21, 2008, 8:29 am 8:29 am

Being an independent it is very hard to understand the Democrats. Both remaining candidates are democrats and should be expected to stand for the same political ideals and goals. Unfortunately they have split themselves on two matters of great importance.
1) Citizens in Florida and Michigan will not be allowed to use their constitiuonal RIGHT to express their opinion.
2) Barack Obama HAS to be true NOT acted as uniter. He has done serious misjudgemnets. On the contrary he has created an even deeper gap between black and white communities than there were before.
Terrorism, wars, recession, poverty, helthcare ………… assumes national unity more than anything else. Hence Obama should wait until 2012 and at that time he might be able to take over! I strongly believe that Clinton will be the best uniter the four years to come.

Posted by: John | March 21, 2008, 8:29 am 8:29 am

Sure Clinton trols did wake up early to do their usual campaign assignment here, or did they stay up all night. Notice how they always post at least thrice in a row: WhiteMan, so saddened, an opinion, etc. This is just sick. If anyone does anything that doesn’t favor your candidate, disrespect them, slash their tires, call them names, spit in their face, and these people are supposed to be Democrats trying to wrest the White House from George Bush? Well, what’s the difference? If all you folks bring is the same neocon/Rush Limbaugh/Michelle Malkin/hate politics, then what makes you different from the Republicans. I fees sad for the young people who are sent to post these hate-filled drivel. All they’ve been taught this year is that politics is about playing dirty, slinging mud, throwing the kitchen sink. I think smart young people can actually do better.

Posted by: Bruce | March 21, 2008, 8:30 am 8:30 am

I guess Ted Kennedy’s singing scared off the Latino voter for Obama, so Obama is using Richardson to try and get them back. Unfortunately for Obama, Latino voters are much smarter!!

Posted by: dfinke | March 21, 2008, 8:31 am 8:31 am

John,
Some MI and FL residents did express their opinion. Their party chose to violate the rules so the opinions don’t count. Hillary agreed they should not until she won the opinion polls. How can you support that?

Posted by: Surprised | March 21, 2008, 8:34 am 8:34 am

Sadly, the Democrats have already lost the general election to the Republicans…and we continue to dig ourselves into a deeper hole. Whether Richardson is endorsing with his heart or his head…he is ultimately not doing the right thing for the Democratic party. McCain must be celebrating everyday! I hope Hillary doesn’t give up, but it doesn’t look good and I will likely have to vote Republican for the first time in my life. Obama showed a lack of judgement continuing to support a parish and Rev Wright, who is simply racist, angry and full and hate. Rev Wright may have his reasons for feeling the way he feels, but he’s not running for President. Whatever your race, religion or culture, not one voter in the country, under any circumstance, should support a candidate whose family supports an organization/church who spews hate, even if only “occasionally” because they are lost in the moment. True feelings come out in moments of passion. And Obama and his family supported this man and received “spiritual” guidance from him for a long, long time. This would be OK for an average citizen, but not for the President of the U.S. Obama clearly doesn’t “unite” the country. The Democrats are now more divided than ever.

Posted by: lifetime democrat | March 21, 2008, 8:35 am 8:35 am

All you people who claim Obama does not like white people are nuts. I have lived in IL for several years and watched his career…he has friends on both sides of the aisle, and mostly white friends.
The quotes from Dreams of My Father are taken out of context too….they are from the portion where he was trying to find himself without the guidance of his father, and tended to mystify his father’s roots.
Ultimately, I think Americans are too lazy to actually read and incoroprate context and crtical thinking. They’d rather have mass media think for them.
Kudos to Rchardson for following his heart in this.

I cannot believe Bill Richardson would be so hypocritical. He run himself on experience and besides it was Clinton who helped him gain that experience and now he turns around and slaps them in the face. This completely destroys my faith in the whole system. You’re missing the point Mike. Richardson is a pretty straight up guy as politicians go. His endorsement says something for everyone.

This is ridiculous! Obama embraces racism through his church and we get an official endorsement from Bill Richardson. I’m not sure what change Obama could bring when he could not get the gumption to walk out of a hate-filled church in the last 20 years.
This does not speak well of Bill Richardson either. This is definitely political suicide for Richardson. Was he promised Vice Presidency? What is he thinking? When are the Democratic Party leaders going to truly listen to the will of the people? (including Florida and Michigan). Are they not paying attention to the polls lately?

Posted by: jan | March 21, 2008, 8:54 am 8:54 am

Posted by: Gun Shy | March 21, 2008, 8:55 am 8:55 am

Yes, he had lots of pressure from the Clintons. Bill watched the super bowl with him. I guess he finally got tired of the Clinton shenanigans. Like accusing Obama of the NAFTA flip-flop when it was Hillary’s camp that gave the nod and wink to Canada (Canadian GlobeMail or factchecker.org) In the Hillary papers released yesterday it was discovered that she met numerous times to promote NAFTA–she denied this before Ohio and accused Obama of politics for pointing this out (Wall Street Journal yesterday). Her support of the union busting activities while on the Walmart board (ABC news aired on Good Morning America–(video on you tube site search Clinton/Walmart). Now that her house of cards is starting to crumble I am curious on what she will do next?

I know the speech asked us as a country to deal with some tough issues; ourselves. It’s important that we remember over 500,000 citizens have been killed in Iraq in 5 years. The pentagon has recovered over 600,000 documents. Not one connects Iraq to Al-Qida or Weapons of Mass Destruction. These people were innocent. How wrong is to take one innocent live? Yan Alexander…
Your comment
“I prefer Obama because the WHITEMAN and Politics as usual haven’t got it right for the past 30 years…”
expresses clearly why the Democrats are not united and will lose to the Republicans in the general election.
As a child of a Hispanic father, who served in the U.S.A.F. for 30 years, and moved all over the world, I can tell you that I feel there is no greater country than the U.S. Yes, we have huge problems….we’ve done more than our fair share of damage to the environment, we have a lot more progress to be made in improving racial equality/unity, improving education/opportunity for all, turning around our economy, fixing our healthcare system….etc. We have a lot of work to do.
BUT….we’ve gotten a lot of things right. This is still the land of opportunity….and that opportunity is becoming more available to all….and we are a country whose people and politicians, while not perfect…should be proud of much we accomplished.
Anyone who expects to win the White House should be prepared to be a builder, not a destroyer…..to improve and change what we need to fix, but not denounce and throw away all the wonderful things we achieved. I am not sure that Obama is that man given where he receives his spiritual guidance. I think he feels as you do Yan Alexander….I think he believes we’ve really messed up our country….
and while we are imperfect and flawed at times….and need to never stop working harder….
I love this country….as corny and patriotic as that sounds…
and I hope Hillary Clinton finds a way!!!

DNC is sending Hillary another “message” via a super delegate she thought was in her pocket. More supers will go with Obama in the coming days in a effort to save the Party from the Clinton’s “We All Die If I Don’t Get The Nomination” Tactics which are also making McCain more and more attractive.

Posted by: x32792 | March 21, 2008, 9:09 am 9:09 am

FYI, Rev Wright is the recipient of three honorary doctorates and three presidential commendations. He is an accomplished musician and author, he has written four books, numerous articles and countless sermons and was named one of Ebony’s top fifteen preachers. He has been invited to the White House twice and there are pictures of him shaking hands with Pres Bill Clinton at a WH gathering. Wright is complicated and controversial man but he is not a racist lunatic.

Posted by: Bob, DC | March 21, 2008, 9:11 am 9:11 am

Back to that actual point. I think this signals the beginning of the super delegate fight.
It seems to me Governor Richardson is trying to send a message to other super delegates. That message maybe that its time to call the primary and unite as a party.
As a result, I fully expect dedicated Clinton super delegates that have not yet declared, to start coming forward with endorsements to shore up her foundation before this thing gets away from her.
This is the beginning folks, not the end.

Posted by: Syl | March 21, 2008, 9:12 am 9:12 am

This is the work of Kennedy, Kerry, Dodd, Bradley, Mr. Dean and other DNC members. I would bet that they promised Bill Richardson the moon and if that didn’t work they blackmailed him just like John Lewis. The big shot democrats screw up every election, they think they know who will be the best candidate and the easiest to control. If they had another brain it would be lonesome. This whole primary smelled like garbage from the beginning. The media has promoted Obama from the start, they knew about Rev. Wright for a year but chose not to bring it up, instead they trashed the Clintons on a daily basis. The black panthers have also endorsed Obama so Bill is in good company. By the way notice the media didn’t bother to mention anything about the panthers or Michelle Obama. The media also gave Bush a free ride when he was running for office and look how that turned out.
John Dean and the DNC made a huge mistake when they disenfranchised the voters of Michigan and Florida, other states moved their primaries up without being penalized. Maybe this was part of the overall plan to elect Obama, Hillary had a good chance to capture the popular vote. I was angry in 2000 and 2004 but this is the last straw and I will not vote for Obama because he was shoved down our throats unfairly and I am after all a blue collar, uneducated female who doesn’t understand Obama. They say Obama voters are affluent and educated with college degrees.

Posted by: Pam Dempsey | March 21, 2008, 9:12 am 9:12 am

Bob, what’s funny is that it only takes about twenty minutes of research to figure out that Rev. Wright is controversial and not a racist. That said, I am convinced that the people pushing this issue don’t want the truth they want Hillary. That’s the problem. Apparently they don’t believe they can have both.

Anyone that thinks McCain looks good is not a dem. “Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran” McBush is ready to take us there next. Almost 4,000 young Americans dead, over 29,000 disabled, over 80,000 Iraqis dead, over a million displaced–And oil has tripled in price. The economy is in the toilet–and McCain has already said he doesn’t know much about that. Yes! That is exactly what we need 4 more years–Will anyone still own a house or have a job with 12 years of this madness? Definitely, we should all vote republican!

Congratulations to Governor Bill Richardson for endorsing a great American for President, Senator Barack Obama. Senator Obama has what it takes to unite people of all races, creeds, religions and colors. He will bind the nation together in a spirit of love, peace and harmony.

Thank You Bill, it is about time someone with leadership tries to bring this party back together.

Posted by: goodwins | March 21, 2008, 9:16 am 9:16 am

The endorsement of Bill Richardson is to late! The voters have already made their decisions. If he was going to endorse Obama, he should have done it earlier. This is Obama’s campaign promising Richardson something and hoping that we forget about his racist and America hating minister, but it won’t work. At this point and time in the process, endorsements do not matter!

“Typical White Person” – Please explain Obama?

Posted by: Adam | March 21, 2008, 9:17 am 9:17 am

This is crazy! Obama embraces a racist church, pastor, and philosphies for the last 20 years and he is rewarded with endorsements. Shame on Bill Richardson! This is political suicide. He probably was promised Vice Presidency? I can’t any change coming from Obama when he could not even get himself to change churches in the last 20 years.

Posted by: jan | March 21, 2008, 9:17 am 9:17 am

I think it is very telling that a close friend of the Clintons would choose to endorse their opponent. I think it is also very telling that former vice-president Gore has chosen not to endorse the Clintons either. In my opinion, they probably feel the Clinton era should a closed chapter in American history and not revisted.

Posted by: John | March 21, 2008, 9:17 am 9:17 am

Syl, So true. But for many this information about Rev Wright is new. It puts whole new perspective on why Obama was attracted to Wright in the first place and why he cut him some slack when Wright said some of those controversial remarks. This issue will pass and Obama will be the nominee. Richardson’s endorsement today seals the deal.

Posted by: Bob, DC | March 21, 2008, 9:23 am 9:23 am

If he was a friend of the Clinton’s then he was a Fair Weather Friend just looking for what is in it for him

Posted by: Nelsd | March 21, 2008, 9:24 am 9:24 am

Richardson as phony as Obama. I heard him say in varies debates that “what was wrong with having experience” and now he endorses the least experienced person applying for the job. If that is not being two faces, tell me what is. He’s a looser. The president’s job is not an entry level position.

Posted by: Folmi | March 21, 2008, 9:24 am 9:24 am

I guess it will be an Obama/Richardson ticket for the Dems. Too bad it won’t be enough to overcome the Republican machine in a general election. I am so disappointed in the DNC leadership and the media. They took a sure thing with Clinton and threw her under the bus with so many other quality white women (Ferraro, Obama’s grandmother, Chelsea Clinton …..). I get the impression we’re just collateral damage in this misogynistic world. Too bad for the DNC that their dismissal of us will probably cost them the election.

Posted by: mhhunt | March 21, 2008, 9:26 am 9:26 am

There’s little or no difference between Clinton and McCain. Both are pro war, pro open borders, pro amnesty for illegals and pro NAFTA. Like Bush, both will sharply increase spending. McCain will spend more for wars and Clinton will spend more for wars and nationalized health care. Both are Washington insiders and have been for many years. In fact, they are very close friends with views so similar they could easily run on the same ticket! I see so many Democrats saying they are willing to switch parties and vote for McCain. Likewise, just as many Republicans (like Ann Colter) are willing to support Hillary now that McCain has the nomanation!
While I strongly disagree with all abortions and national health care, Bill Richardson is right in choosing Obama, who is clearly a better speaker and looks more “Presidential” than Hillary or McCain.
Also consider this fact, Barack Obama already has such a huge lead that (banning a miracle and the likely destruction of the democratic party as we know it) he will be the Democratic nominee.
At least Barack Obama promises to end this stupid (and very expensive) war in Iraq that we never should have started. Tens of thousands of innocent people have now died in Iraq and Osama is still making threats from his cave.
If we could all just be honest for a moment and admit it, there is simply no good choice remaining among these self promoting, power hungry, lying politicians. My big question: is it even possible for an honest person to win the Presidency??? It sure doesn’t appear to be possible.

I don’t know if Richardson’s endorsement seals the deal, but he is known as an up front man of integrity. Maybe this will cause some to seek information on the internet instead of the 15 second sound bites on traditional TV and find the facts. Thanks for the uncommon and enlightening views Bob and Syl–I must sign off. Great to hear views expressed with eloquence for a change–not the rabid name calling and race baiting usually found here.

Obviously the DNC and the “boys” in charge will do anything to keep a woman out of the White House. It’s amazing how the media is going crazy trying to create new “news” about Obama to change our attention off the fact that he is all about “Black Liberation” and his immense dislike of “typical white people”, including his own grandma. But that makes sense because his grandma is probably a Hillary supporter.

Posted by: hh | March 21, 2008, 9:28 am 9:28 am

There is definitely some behind the scene pandering going on. Obama is a typical politician trying to divert public’s attention from Wright fiasco and Richardson is falling for it hook, line and sinker

Posted by: pleaseanswer | March 21, 2008, 9:34 am 9:34 am

Bill Richardson represents a state and a Latino culture who support Hillary Clinton. For him to support Barack Obama at this time tells me that he is just another politician who could give a hoot about his constituents. It’s a disease in this country. We are outraged when George Bush goes forward in Iraq, despite the overwhelming majority of Americans who favor withdrawal, and I see Bill Richardson now casting himself in the same light.

2) Barack Obama HAS NOT acted as uniter.
I strongly believe that Clinton will be the best uniter the years to come.

If there is one person in this race who has been consistently showing himself to be Christ-like in his actions, it’s Barack Obama.
You’re allowed to be saddened and/or upset. But don’t be a hypocrite. There are already too many religious hypocrites in the world . . . claiming to be so religious and faithful, but then saying and doing things over and over that show the opposite.

Those are not Obama’s views. You and the VILE Bilary would want us to think it is. Gov. Richardson honor remains intact. He promised that he was going to endorse who ever had the lead in delegates and in popular votes at a certain time he had indicated and that time had already passed. He is an honorable man and he cannot delay it any longer and has to act to prevent blood spill and damage. He sees that Obama has the lead and remains the front runner, and he knows the CLINTONs real well and how they operate, especially they have their backs against their walls. He knows what’s going to happen next and what they are going to do. His endorsement deadline have passed and he has waited held out enough for Hilary to Catch a break and it has not happen. The only honorable thing he can do is stick to the word so no more blood will be spilled.

I have figured out why there is so much hatred towards Obama. It’s because he is smart. I personally want a President who is actually a scholar of the Constitution, head of the Harvard Law Review, and invited to teach at the University of Chicago. It’s time we stop being anti-intellectual and admit that we need the smartest people around. Hillary is smart, no doubt, but has directed her intelligence to the nuances of party politics. Richardson has now made a principled decision, and I applaud him!

Lifetime Democrat: Yes, we have gotten allot of things right. But the basic human rights here in the United States have only been raised to the level of acceptance not the standard.
Healthcare for example its way better in other countries, I lived in France for a year and I felt the difference in how the system works compare to here in America. Here in America it’s all about the profits, not the well being of the patient. This is my biggest concern that’s why after reading senators Obama’s plan compare to Hillary’s health care plan I prefer Obama’s because the last thing we need is to have government force everyone to get it. They need to lower the cost. Hillary’s healthcare plan mentions diet and exercise ONCE while the word Medicine and Treatment are mentioned 16 X. the last thing we need in the healthcare system now is more greedy pharmaceuticals.
Racial Equality only exists on paper because the majority of people here in the states still judge people by the color of their skin not their IQ. Again enforcing my point that things here is America are up to the level of acceptance. If I ever date and African America I am sure my grand parents will raise an eyebrow. I wish its wasn’t the case but I am sure this happens in most white families.
Invasion of privacy by the government.
Education – We do just enough to make it easy to enroll our kids but not enough to keep them in school. While is primarily the parents responsibility, more can be done. It only seems fair if Bush has me paying 27% of taxes while Warren Buffet only pays 17% and he makes a thousand times more that what I make.
Immigration – I, being half native America, I feel that the typical white man is a hypocrite because they despise immigrants mainly Hispanics, I never, I MEAN NEVER heard any racial remarks from a white man towards an Irish or Italian when referring to them as immigrants. The whites came here illegally too but the typical white man doesn’t bother with history. If they did bush would have not gone to Iraq.
I love my country to but I feel we can do more if we focus on the issues that really matter. BEFORE IT WAS DEMOCRAT VS REPUBLICAN NOW IT’S THE WHITE VS BLACK, WOMEN VS MAN, OLD VS YOUNG. THIS DOESNT HELP ONLY DIVIDES. THIS IS WHY WE DONT GET ANYTHING DONE. IF EVERYONE WERE TO CAST THEIR VOTES BASED ON ISSUES THAT AFFECT THEM WE WOULDN’T BE IN THIS MESS. THERE IS NO BAD POLITICIANS ONLY STUPID PEOPLE THAT ARE SUPERFICIAL AND VOTE BASED ON WHAT MEETS THE EYE.

NOte to All Hillary Supporters: ————————Listen, I know that you are all angry over the fact that your candidate seems to be losing this election. It is still possible that she may win, though that possibility is miniscule. As an Obama supporter, I can honestly say that if Senator Hillary Clinton wins the nomination, I will vote for her in the general. WHY? because I would rather vote for Mickey Mouse before I vote for a republican any day!!! As democrats, you guys have to be ready to to do the same for Obama. Remember, it does NOT matter how angry you may be if Hillary loses the nomination, but the fact is that Obama and Hillary are one in the same and agree on 95% of the issues!!! They are both democrats that stand up for the under priviledged.
As for race and gender: I implore you all to PLEASE not let your voting decision and this elction be about any of those. The media and republicans have tried to appeal tosome of the bigotry of American by pushing the race and gender cards. Obama DID NOT run on race. Yes, his African Amrican support has been overwhelming, but Hillary’s Latino support has been overwhelming. I WILL NOT call either group racist. They just voted for the candidate that they thought would best benefit them, and I understand that. If you guys suuport Hillary, then you should support Obama if she loses the nomination. If you chose to support McCain instead, that means that you must harbor some deep seeded bigotry towards African Americans or you just wanted to see a woman as president, regardless of what she stands for. I say this because if you want to hide behind the “experience” reason, you would have voted for Senator Chris Dodd or Joe Biden. Both of those candidates have more experience than Hillary.
The media forced Obama into a corner by attacking African American culture. I assure you that Reverend Wright is no different from many African American ministers. OBAMA WAS CORRECT IN THAT DENOUNCING THIS MAN WOULD BE AS BAD AS DENOUNCING HIS ENTIRE CULTURE AND THE THOUSANDS OF OTHER AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURE. The problem is that most white Americans do not understand African American culture and the AA church. It is why Sunday Morning IS IN FACT, THE MOST SEGREGATED HOUR IN AMERICA!!! WHites go to their church, Blacks to their church, and Latinos to their church. Their are few that are multi cultural and multi racial. Please don’t let AA ministry or race affect your responsibility to vote for the person YOU KNOW will help bring about policies you want to have in America!!!
Finally, I will say that Obama is not perfect. He has made mistakes. He will make mistakes. So will Hillary. SHe is NOT perfect and has made MANY mistakes. There is dirt in every politician’s closet, so lets get past this divisive jargon and focus on what matters most… The well being of America.

You folks really think the rest of America is as uninformed as you when it comes to the reasons behind the re-votes in FL and MI? People can read, they know it’s not Obama stopping the re-vote. They also know that it’s the DNC, which Hillary supported, that stripped the votes.

Posted by: Reality | March 21, 2008, 10:15 am 10:15 am

Why is it that it has to be them thinking that they’re going to be VP… Is it not enough that he may like this guy? Some of you people are so childish! All you’re looking at are the few petty things that have been thrown you way about Obama. No one has anything to say about the fact that they have been able to pull up substantial thing on Clinton, but the worst they could do on Obama was his ex-pastor’s sermons! Wake up people… Hillary lied about her experience, her trip to Ireland, Africa, China, etc. all have been dis proven. Anyone that went on those trips have said that she didn’t do anything while there. Or what about NAFTA? The fact that she claims that she was always against it, the women that she had a meeting with says it was the total opposite( that was women there), and they admit being upset with her for denying it! And not forget the war! She voted for it but conveniently when the Odds are stacked against it she no longer for the war! Some of you people are impossible. If you can see the light through all of this dark, then you are truly blind, and that is what’s wrong with our country. Oh yeah, no one had anything to say about McCain begging for the endorsement of John Hagee, who had disgusting things to say about the Catholic Church…Let’s talk more about that!

Posted by: Raisean | March 21, 2008, 10:16 am 10:16 am

I’m really amazed that most of us Democrats are so stupid! The Republican press pushed for this candidates with their historic election bit. An african-american and a woman. The fact of the matter is that these were candidates that they could beat. We played right into their hands. Beating each other up and fracturing the party. Leave it to us Democrats to be handed The White House on a silver platter by the Bush administration and squandering it because we can’t be thinking people and support whoever the nominee is! Obama can’t win the white vote because of his comments on the radio show and his affiliation with Rev. Wright and Clinton can’t win because she can’t get the black vote. That’s the math we ought to be thinking about. The Republicans pushed for these two candidates and then sat back and watched us self-destruct! Please I beg you, support whoever the nominee is. This great country of ours can not afford another Republican Administration! Grow up!

The Democratic Party is tossing everything down the drain. I’ve had it with the likes of Gov. Richardson, Speaker Pelosi and all the other Dems who have turned their backs on Hillary Clinton and the core Democrats. They can take their Party to the far Left if they want but I won’t be going with them. If Hillary Clinton does not get the Democratic nomination I will vote for John McCain or I just won’t vote. They don’t care about the voters in Florida and Michigan. I’m sure they won’t mind if I don’t give them my vote. They are doing to the Democratic Party what the Evangelicals did to the Republicans. Wise up before you lose it all.

TYPICAL WHITE PERSON, I know you won’t believe this, but by that quote, Obama was saying that his grandmother is a “typical”, as in, everyday, normal white person who harbors no racial animosity, but has a reaction when a black man comes walking toward them. Happens all the time. Does not mean they are racist. Just means life experiences, whether going through something with a black person, or seeing it on the news, have helped shape their mental makeup. But, hey, if you don’t like him, people will take it as they see fit – not how it really is.

As a moderate Republican now favoring McCain I would definitely take a long look at a Obama/Richardson ticket. Richardson would give Obama definite foreign policy creds. The abortion issue is a big one for me but not a decisive one. One must look at all issues.
It is clear that the Hillary people have drunk the cool-aide and will see nothing good about anyone who does not agree with them. What they accused Obama’s people of being and doing they are themselves. It’s called “psychological projection”.

Posted by: PuddyKatz | March 21, 2008, 10:23 am 10:23 am

This cynical independent is amazed at how deft the republican leadership has been and at how arrogant and ignorant the democratic leadership continues to be. Gore should have won, Kerry should have won, and now – a democrat should have been a slam dunk in 2008. Once again, the democrats have blown a sure thing. They never seem to get the big picture during election season. There are just too many liberal leaning, disconnected people running the party. During the primary, they all but ignore their centrist voters and they refuse to see that most American voters are centrist in their views. The dems. will ultimately coalesce behind a candidate, but it won’t be enough to overcome the shortcomings of the DNC leadership and their lack of understanding outside their own little corners of the U.S. and Washington DC. I’d like to see some serious dialog and movement toward a third party – one that represents common sense and common concerns in this country.

WHEREAS, the nominating calendar honors the traditional role of retail politics early in the nominating process.
WHEREAS, the nominating calendar provides geographical balance with contests in the Heartland, East, South and West.
WHEREAS, it is the desire of Presidential campaigns, the DNC, the states and the American people to bring finality, predictability and common sense to the nominating calendar.

One more thing if you have read my previous post, you have seen that I am half Native American half 4th gen. British. I love this country, I volunteer in hospitals and shelters as much as I can. I tried to raise awareness about global warming in my community, I gather young kids to try cleaning parks, graffiti etc.
Why is that we get pissed at pastor Wright comments. When if you really give it some thought it’s the truth. But the truth hurts doesn’t it. Over 655,000 Iraqis dead after the war started. When we cut Aid to other countries, who suffer??? Starving kids, they die because of basic needs that are cut off by “sanctions” do you think leaders of nations loose sleep over sanctions??? We go to other countries and install governments of our choice for oil purposes and you tell me all of this is not some sort of terrorism? I am not a smart person but doesn’t terrorism kill people no matter the method you use to achieve the end result? Again that figure will still be in my head 655,000 Iraqis dead. And for what, just so some punk (bush) can have it his way. What would we say if China had bases here and killed 655,000 Americans? about 70% of the population in Rhode Island?

I agree with the “psychological projection” analysis. On these ABC boards I’ve seen enough anti-American hatred to make Pastor Wright look like a model patriot. I’d rather look a the real issues, and in that regard Obama comes out on top.

NO!

The truth is that if Senator Hillary Clinton was leading in pledged delegates and “momentum”; Gov. Bill Richardson would be endorsing her for the Democratic nomination. During the debates, I saw Richardson as an opportunist, plain and simple. He defended Hillary during the debates left and right, because he assumed that she would get the nomination easily. This endorsement means nothing, except that, like with Bill Clinton, Richardson is now going to expect a cabinet post is Barack Obama becomes President. Extremely lame.

MY wife and I agree with your rational for endorsing Obamba. If Clinton gets the nomination, I have a feeling many will follow suit with us and vote for a third party canidate. This is the worest mud slinging, inuendo suggesting, and prejudiced campaign that we have witnessed in over fifty of voting! The Clintons are as ruthless as they come! Governor Richardson,
I have been a supporter of yours for years! I had the pleasure of meeting you in El Paso a few years ago. However, I can no longer support you. You have saddend myself and many hispanics with your endorsement of Barack Obama. It seems to me that if you really believed in him you would have endorsed him in the Texas primary. El Paso, Texas is just down the road from you. Why didn’t you endorse him then? Why now? Obama uses hispanics in an insulting way. During the Texas primaries, Hillary came to El Paso as did her daughter. Bill Clinton came twice and we even got a visit from General Wesley Clark. Obama did not come to see El Paso which is over 80% hispanic. Who did he send on his behalf? George Lopez!!! A comedian!! El Paso was greatly insulted! I’m sure hispanics all over the nation are very sad about Richardsons decision and we see it as just a dirty political move. Mr. Richardson you have lost my support and many in the hispanic community feel the same way. I can no longer support you and that hurts me to no end. I am very disappointed in you and shame on you for having no loyalty to the Clintons who got you to where you are.

Paul – By the way, I disagree with your assessment. Most of the really nasty comments are more than likely republican “posers” having a little fun reeking havoc between the two democratic camps. Your comment is laughable considering the names I’ve been called by the Obama supporters (and probably some republicans posers) in the past few months for issuing any comment that praises a candidate not their own. Even when I post data based information – the responses are often explicitly vulgar and personal. Every demographic group I belong to has been demeaned and belittled in the basest of ways. As a centrist, white, post-graduate degreed, mother and spouse living in a liberal leaning city in a very conservative leaning State, I have become a true cynic. Our system of voting is broken and we won’t fix it by pointing fingers amongst ourselves.

I want to see how he will balance the budget, relate to other countries, plan for the war, plan for the stresses here in the USA. Show me a plan, give me some insight. All I have heard from him is words. Show me the Money!!! What do you have in store. I see this guy and say I hear but do not see, and I am not blind. MAke me want to vote for you. This is what I think alot of people are saying. The Clintons, I know who they are, make me change my mind, until then I fear if voted in we will have a Hurricane Charley all over again in the government. No power, no food, no water. All survival skills thrown in a loop, and mass riots. I dont like the future if this is where we are going to. Again, not hate, just need more proof this will work

Hawk, I grew up in North Philly, and with all honesty, Jimmy the Greek and Ferraro are not good examples because I don’t think they were racist in tone or intention. When I heard him say “typical” I thought it a bad choice of words and could see how some might take it the way they did. I just hope for people to look at the context fairly.
By the name calling and ranting (you all?) you demonstrate, I know the reason you would not vote for him isn’t because because of policy, but rather, I suspect the very thing he speaks of.
Good luck with that.

Well, according to the Obamacans, Richardson CAN’T pledge his superdelegate vote to him because Hillary WON New Mexico. How can he be yet ANOTHER hypocrite about this issue. He won’t allow Michigan or Florida voters to have their say so how can he accept this endorsement? Besides, we see what endorsements are anyway (ie, Kerry, Kennedy). The only endorsement that MAY sway anyone is Gore.

Posted by: Sam | March 21, 2008, 10:53 am 10:53 am

Richardson won’t make much difference with the exception of the general election against McCain. Obama is going to take Oregon anyway and Richardson won’t help in PA, NC and Indiana. At least he wasn’t a woose though like Edwards last night. Edwards endorsement, or lack of, was the equivalent of the 130-140 “present” votes Obama made that Edwards went after him on.

I wonder how many political careers will be finished after this election. Either they tied their raft to the wrong ship and it didn’t sail or they tied their raft to the ship that sails but sinks once it gets in deep waters. Either way I don’t think that either captain will try to save them now.

Being from NM, Bill Richardson has passed laws which opened the general fund to expenses of his whims. He has promoted a boondoogle of a train from Belen to Santa Fe that has a huge price tag & not enough riders (like a train to nowhere). He has built himself a new office in Albuquerque and bought himself a new jet airplane to run around the country in while trying to run for president & spent more money in his current term than any other governor. He wasn’t the clear winner of his current position, until missing ballots were turned in late from some obsure community in the hills of New Mexico. Many of his appointees & cronies have been indicted for unscrupulous practices. Now he is pushing for universal healthcare on the back of taxpayers, when NM already has a high percentage of the population receiving free healthcare now (both legal & illegal). The environmental impact of the newest pit rules, will cause fuel prices to increase more, and cause rigs to shut down due to the expensive processes he is pushing for. He supports Desert Rock power plant, a coal fired power plant in the works for the northwestern portion of the state. Our skies are already polluted by 2 coal fired plants that send their electricity to California and places beyond. We used to have blue sky here, but now it has a sulfur yellow, gray haze over San Juan county. New Mexico is in the top 5 in the nation for violent crime. Our schools are short changing our children. There isn’t enough money for textbooks for all the students. Under his watch we’ve had foreign nationals in our governor’s mansion and security breaches at Los Alamos National Lab. It has all been rather odd.

Richardson may have counted for something but he was never good with timing. This week, Obama was the damsel in distress. Then Richardson figured that he will be Obama’s knight in shining armor who will save him from this quagmire. Except, the knight came too late. Obama is already way too deep into this racial quagmire by his own doing.

Posted by: Haha | March 21, 2008, 10:56 am 10:56 am

I applaud Governor Richardson for having the intelligence and foresight of being able to see beyond the inflammatory and seditious remarks being fomented by a right wing fringe, led by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and the many who lack the capability and vision to see beyond the rhetoric of such individuals, who are intent upon denying Americans the service of a leader who has the ability to return governance of our great nation, back to the original intent of our Constitution. A government “of the people, by the people, and for the people”. I am a 62 year old white, former Republican, living in Texas who wholeheartedly supports the direction and vision Senator Barack Obama is offering to Americans. I applaud and admire Senator Obama’s ability and tenacity to remain focused upon this objective, while under attack by those who would have this nation become further divided, and remain on the destructive course it has followed, not only under the current administration, but from many administrations of the past. Thank You Governor Richardson, I could only hope many others awaken and realize the opportunity we are being offered before it is too late, not only for my generation, but for generations to come.

If Democrats do not understand the big picture, the will lose in the GE. It is obvious that Richardson is getting something out of this but injecting himself into swinging the race. This will be old news also but Richardson would have lost his reputation of being an honorable SD. Goodbye Mr. Richardson, you have sealed your fate for the history books!!

A post asked the question; Why would Hispanics suffer under Obama? Good question. The answer is that you can judge a man by the company he keeps. Obama has clearly shown that his beliefs particularly as they relate to his spiritual and world view is clearly AfroCentric. If you study his speeches he makes references over and over about bridging the black and white divide, about blacks and whites coming together and so on and on. Hispanics have surpassed Africans as the largest minority, yet in the view of his mentor and Obama himself they see the world and particularly America as a drama of two groups, European and African caught up in their historical travails trying to heal the wounds of their epochal struggle. Give me a break. What I find even more offensive about the Reverend’s remarks is this overriding attitude of “This is all about us, we have suffered this and that . I’d like to remind Africans that many Americans have suffered and no one group or individual can claim it as their own. Obama’s yet to ride through another storm called Rezko soon. I hope that answers your Question.

Well, racism lives and both Obama and Richardson have now ended their political careers forever. Neither has benefited the DEM party in the past and any political student will be left wondering why the party ever endorsed either one for any position. I don’t look forward to the 100 year war but established racisim in the White House would be even worse. I’ll be really careful to vote for good quality senators and hope for the best.

Socialized medicine… See what FIXED NEWS has put in to your head. No Obama’s plan is about lowering cost. Tell me HAWK which one of this following scenarios you prefer.
1) you have a medical condition that needs to be operated but the operation cost 50K, you are in extreme pain waiting in the ER. But in all this time you doctor is talking to a moron a thousand miles away stuck in his cubicle and frustrated about his $14 job and discussing weather he can approve your operation. This person needs to also meet certain amount of denials a month and he starts to flip a coin on your operation. In the mean time you feel like the undertaker is coming for you and thinking to your self I pay $400 a month for my insurance why cant he just do it??? Then he finally does your operation and you go home then receive a bill for 40K saying that you need to pay the copayment of 40K because you didn’t “pre-approve your surgery”
2) Have the doctor walk in to the emergency waiting area asses your pain and asses the other patients in the waiting area, and have him and only him decide that you have to go to the operating room immediately.
Hawk tell me which one you preffer?
WHAT DO I SAY THIS?? BECAUSE IT HAPPENED TO ME WHILE I WAS IN FRANCE I NEEDED TO HAVE LYMPH NODE TAKEN OUT, THE DOCTOR WALKED IN, SAW ME IN PAIN AND PUT ME FIRST. MY COUSIN WENT IN TO THE HOSPITAL Boston Medical Center BECAUSE HIS APPENDIX AND THE DOCTOR SPEND A GOOD 35 MINUTES TALKING TO THE INSURANCE AGENCY. THEN RECEIVED A RIDICULUS BILL. When they tell you I will be right back while you are in the waiting area. They call you insurance to make sure they approve and make sure he is going to get paid.

I’m from NM. Richardson is a marginal governor and he ran a marginal presidential campaign. He couldn’t even get NM hispanics to vote from Obama. I can’t see why this endorsment matters at all. Obama and Richardson have been plotting for a long time now. This is from Jan 4 blog from Jeremy Peters from the NYT regarding the Iowa caucus.
“But a supporter from Senator Obama’s campaign had a more persuasive offer. She explained that the Obama campaign and the Richardson campaign had a pact: If Mr. Richardson failed to win enough votes in the caucuses being held across Iowa that night to be considered a viable candidate, his supporters would vote for Mr. Obama.
“That’s what the leadership has said,” the Obama volunteer, Deb Copeland, a 43-year-old talent agent from Des Moines, told the Richardson voters, who were looking more forlorn by the minute.
“What we’re concerned about is we heard of a few people going to Hillary. And we want to keep you together.”
Very interesting that these two have been in cahoots since then.

Should Obama become the Democratic Nominee, this Democratic is voting for John McCain.

I don’t think Bill Richardson’s endorsment will help Obama!
It will help John McCain though because he may unite the democratic party to go against Hillary!
It looks like John McCain will walk the GE in November!

Obama just can’t win the general election now with only 41% of typical white people. He is election box poison, any typical white person can see that now.

And, hey Dems, get beyond the Pastor thing, it means nothing. You elected slick willy the sex addict philanderer twice!! He ruined the party, people. Geeez, wake up.

Now, for those of you ready to convict Rev. Wright without having heard the entire sermon – you should do yourself a favor a listen because you are making a mockery of the Clinton campaign and showing your true colors.
By the way, Hillary has heard the sermons in their entireity which is why SHE isn’t saying a word.

Gov. Richardson, the news about the Obama endorsement extremely saddened me. How could in good conscience do this? I am suspicious about your reasons for the endorsement. I no longer have the admiration and positive opinion I use to have for you.

Hawk: the only reason I use caps is because I want people to read the main point within the point. I don’t scream or get upset by this stuff because in the end I know the result. People will still vote for someone like McCain who vows to continue Bush’s Tax cuts, War, and monetary policy, than to vote for a woman or a black man. Did you see McCain fc*k up in a press conference while in Jordan confusing Extremist AlQaeda and Iran early his week. That’s how wars start. Don’t you think this will be a much better country if people voted their interest? I fear a collapse of the economy if we continue with bush’s policies we cannot afford another 4 years. China’s, India’s, and Europe’s market are moving along. If we continue to stretch the dollar, in today’s digital age people can move their money over night, exactly what happened to Bear Sterns over to this stable markets. That’s why we need Hillary or Obama this November, they are both very similar on policies but very different in believes.

Eric,
I am a catholic myself, and as such I know Jesus is not about hate and cowardice. He stood by his principle to the end, in spite of the fact he knew he would be crucified. Likewise, Mr. Obama has never backed out of his principle, and has never ever uttered word of hatred or disrespect against anyone. He is a man of reconciliation, a man that understands different views (because himself is the product of two cultures and has been exposed to a wide range of other cultures) , a man that has chosen to teach his opponents instead of denigrating them, and a man that stands up to ugly and divisive tactics and invites the rest of us to do the same. He is what America has been needing for many years and I am confident Richardson has endorsed him after much deliberations and with understanding that it may cost him politically. That’ s what courageous men do, and that’s what it means to live in the image of Christ. In this Good Friday, I invite you to see what Jesus has taught us to do, treat others as we want to be treated:with love, respect and fairness.
Happy Easter to you too.

GOP , Here is my answer to you, It makes a lot of sense!
Richardson endorsment at this point is useless! It would have been powerful before TX! Because a lot of latinos would have voted for Obama! And now, the Democratic Party would have been united! Not divided! John Mccain was in Iraq while the Democrats wre battleing against each other last week!
I voted for Obama before the Rev. Wright comments! I thought he offered hope! But I was wrong! Obama offers hate!
Terms of how Obama can be racist and anti American, is very simple!
Obama choose to attend to Rev. Wright’s church and listened to his hate for 20 years! After knowing those strong words against the US Goverment such as “God damn America, WE deserved 9/11″ from Rev. Wright, I do not believe there are many people out ther will cast their votes for Obama unless they are black or associated with the Demcoratic Party insiders who support Obama! Obama did not disown this man! White male voters are all gone! It is a huge damage that nobody can fix at this moment!Obama showed a very poor judgement!
Finally, Richardson endorsemnt will not change minds!
You will see in Pa and the rest of the states! But I know the Democratoc Party will give the nomination to Obama! That will help John McCain in November! I myself will vote for John McCain allthough I voted for Obama in TX!

You are right, we should teach love in all of our religious assemblies and that’s precisely what Rev. Wright does.
I’m not challenging your credibility but I find it difficult to believe that you’ve actually heard that entire sermon and still feel it was a racist message. The most inflammatory statement in the entire sermon was a quote of a “white” politician. Which he says in the speech but you’ve heard it right?

If Richardson was going to endorse Obama, why couldn’t he have done it before the Texas primary? If he had, Obama might have won in Texas, sparing the Democratic party this prolonged fight from which no one will emerge as a strong candidate.

Everything is so clear. There must be a
deal made behind the backdrop.Obama is in
heat of the media, and right now he needs
some good news. So,he turned to that betrayal–Richardson.Obama said to him:If you come to my rescue,I promise(Oops, again) you the
seat of VP.Then Richardson thought about a minute, said:That sounds not bad.Ok,I’ll
make an endorsement to you.Deal was done.
And now you all see what is on the media

I enjoy how the Obama Zombies like to call everyone who doesn’t support their man “racist” or that if Obama doesn’t get elected it’s due to “racism.”
HOGWASH
Who is really the racist?
The big questions remain unanswered that cut to the core of Obama’s credibility, character and judgment:
Mr. Obama, if you truly believe in a united America and are “post racial,” why for the last 25 years have you aligned yourself and your family with the hateful, anti-America, anti-white, anti-semitic rhetoric of Jeremiah Wright and the Black Nationalist movement?
Mr. Obama, if you are truly the great uniter, why have you donated tens of thousands of dollars, including $22,500 last year alone, to Jeremiah Wright to further his message of hate and diviseness?
Mr. Obama, why did it take the media and plummeting poll numbers to jolt you out of what can only be described as a racist stupor to begin addressing your association with racism and hate?
Mr. Obama?

are typical of the White Race and that racism is inbred in us.
Well, I’d like to say that, that is a RAICIST statement on your part!

Posted by: Rhino | March 21, 2008, 12:17 pm 12:17 pm

As a “typical white person” I am not sure why it matters who Richardson endorses – he is no longer a player and is probably trolling for a position in Obama’s Administration knowing he won’t get one in Hillary’s. Obama gives good speeches but his actions and associations are not in sync and when in doubt I feel actions speak louder than words. Especially the words that someone else writes for you – Obama is an opportunist and a fraud and I will never vote for him now.

Posted by: Bethy | March 21, 2008, 12:17 pm 12:17 pm

RJ, the problem with your argument on Rev. Wright is that 67% of Americans said they don’t believe Obama is a racist – this coming just ONE week after the biggest misrepresentations of his sermon. Imagine the number when the truth gets out and the actual sermon is circulated to the media outlets and they get wind of the fact that this has been blown WAY out of proportion.

The Founding Fathers did not have to believe in god or pretend to as today’s politicians have to. If anyone took “men of god” seriously we’d believe that New Orleans got its just reward, 9/11 was god’s wakeup call, etc., etc. Who cares what Wright says? Politicians have to thump the bible but probably only Bush is dumb enough to put any real stock in it.

Posted by: Curious Independent | March 21, 2008, 12:21 pm 12:21 pm

Truth, he invited him TWICE. Wait until this gets out…he was also involved in the first Clinton campaign in IL as part of the Richard Daley machine. Guess who was one of the first ministers Bill reached out to? You guessed it….Rev. Wright.
Seriously, these folks are snakes. I realize Rev. Wright called Bill a fraud just a few months after their first meeting but damn if it’s not hypocrital to first seek his support and then misrepresent his religious and social beliefs.
That’s just low.

Posted by: Proud AFRICAN American | March 21, 2008, 12:23 pm 12:23 pm

Some of you accused Richardson not being loyal to Clintons. Are you big fans for Bush who is famous to chose loyalty over principle and happy where we are today with his leadership?
Talk about loyalty – When Bill Clinton was in trouble in 1998, he invited Rev. Wright to White House to confess his sin and thanked Rev. Wright for helping during that difficult time (about to get impeached). Why none of the Clintons came out tell the public that Rev. Wright isn’t a racist or anti-American pastor? That simple truth could have put the rumors to rest, if only the Clintons are decent enough to state it. They fail this test. They show themselves most self serving again. Even McCain and Huckabee have the integrity to acknowledge the simple truth that we shouldn’t judge Obama by what his Pastor said, and they backed up Obama that he isn’t racist and he is not anti-American.
For those of you insist that Rev. Wright has been preaching for 20 years like way the Faxnews clips are, then you are committing injustice to the man without a fact check beyond media spin. If Rev. Wight has been indeed so bad as you imagined or MSM painted, then you better ask while the Clintons seeked out his support in White House.
For the future of your own family and children, can you overcome your attachment to dividing politics and for once following Richardson to unity?

While campaigning for the democratic nomination, Mr. Richardson, overflowing with pomp and self-importance, felt as if, regardless of his meaningless rhetoric void of substance and hardly making any sense, his very existence dictated that voters could not possibly elect anyone other than him. Sharing much of these same traits with Senator Obama, the two are nearly a perfect fit, with one exception, that being Mr. Richardson needs to fall at the feet of Reverend Wright in solemn worship so that the union of these two charlatans will achieve the ultimate degree of perfection.

Posted by: nick | March 21, 2008, 12:34 pm 12:34 pm

Valenti:
Mr. Richardson is only doing what an honorable man would do and he is a honorable man. He promised at a certain time in February or early March that he was going to endorse who ever the dem. Candidate had the lead. March is almost over and I think he feels he has held of making his choice for far too long that Hilary has tried the KITCHEN SINK and it hasn’t been successful, she’s still behind in delegates, and in Popular vote, March is ending and the endorsement is over due and Mr. Richardson knows how the Clinton work well. He has been loyal to now and he knows that since the KITCHEN SINK did not work he has to act before Hilary digs deep (for as we know what the clintons will do when their backs are against the walls) digs deep into herself and in desperation decides to throw the PMS strategy. The KITCHEN SINK has already spilled a lot of blood and Richardson knows he has to make good on his word to prevent hilary from going balastic and a blood bath that will ultimately hurt and completely divide up the party. He has been loyal to Hilary, she won Texas and Ohio her hopes for Michigan and Florida won’t happen and she’s still behind in vote counts and delegates. Most importantly, he knows OBAMA did not give those speeches, so he is doing the right and honorable thing to do. He’s truly an Honorable man.

Divider…guess what. His grandmother is the typical white woman. Why is that a bad thing? Oh wait…because it’s a stereotypical comparison. Similar to Bill comparing Obama’s victories to Jacksons, and Ferraro saying Obama is where he is because he is black?
Isn’t that a bit hypocritical?

Posted by: Proud AFRICAN American | March 21, 2008, 12:41 pm 12:41 pm

Obama has always played race games. Take this, for example, when he used the words of super Muslim and racist Malcolm X in Spike Lee’s movie to incite a mostly African American audience in South Carolina. Coincidence? Of course not. Obama knows exactly what he’s doing.
“They’re trying to bamboozle you. It’s the same old okie-doke. Y’all know about okie doke, right?… They try to bamboozle you. Hoodwink ya. Try to hoodwink ya.”
–Barack Obama in a speech January 24, 2008
“You’ve been hoodwinked. You’ve been had. You’ve been took. You’ve been led astray, led amok. You’ve been bamboozled.”
- Malcolm X
__________
If any other candidate gave a speech that included phrases from, say, a white power leader, he/she would be berated by the Obama campaign and the media as a racist, and the world would come to end.
Obama is a racist con man. Nothing more.

It’s amazing how this thread which I thought was about Gov Richardson endorsing Obama has some how got off track and is now attacking Obama or discussing other issues about what he said, she said, and of course Pastor Wright again LOL.
Obama haters, listen carefully. Some of us do NOT care what Pastor Wright said or didn’t say. Some of us don’t care what Obama’s wife Michelle said or didn’t say! I am a 52 year old white male. Independent, nondenomination Christian. I simply do not care what Pastor Wright said or believes. I don’t care if Obama put his hand over his heart or not to pledge. I don’t care if he wears a American flag pin or not. I wouldn’t care if he was Muslim.
You Obama haters simply dont get it do you? Some of us simply want REAL change and we believe Obama is our best HOPE for it. The rest of you can support who ever you want, just don’t expect every one to be as outraged or offended as you are about some of these things. Clinton and Obama supporters, this fighting has go to stop. As democrats we cannot allow to have McCain in the white house. Do we want to be in Iraq another 100 years like he said. And what about the Supreme Court. Think of what will happened if it turns all conservative. We will be doomed. I can’t believe for the good of the party and our country you would seriously consider voting for McCain. If Hillary wins the nomination, Obama will be behind her 100% and vice versa. I wanted to see John Edwards get the nomination but you don’t see me spewing hatred because he didn’t get it. This is dividing the party at a time when we really need to come together. We need to put our differences aside and back whoever the canidate is. This hatred is sickening and it is poisoning us.

Proud AFRICAN American -
Thanks for your intelligent posts. I wouldn’t despair too much just from the commenters on here. The internet inevitably brings out the people with the most bitterness to vent. There are many other people who are using this opportunity to have an intelligent conversation on race. I hope Obama gets the nomination whether or not he becomes president, so this process can continue. Maybe we will understand that we can’t keep sweeping it back under the rug again.

Once again, who cares about Richardson? His motives for endorsement are so transparent that even a 9 month old baby can see through this. obama is in deep trouble, makes a deal with Richardson, Richardson who failed miserably during the primaries on his run for president, then jumps in (another 15 minutes of fame) and already the obamamaniacs are once again declaring their Golden Boy the president of the USA.
Hey G. W. Bush – better use this weekend to move out of the White House the Golden Boy is coming in to roost.
Obama played the race card and it bit him on this butt. Obama has divided not only the Democratic party but this nation with his racism.
Proof of obama’s racism? When John Kerry announced that obama could deal better with the muslims because he is a black man comment didn’t even warrant an “explanation” from the obama camp? Why not? Ferraro basically said the same thing and obama leaped into the air shouting her racism.
What a pitiful excuse for a person. Obama is racist and a bigot.
Shame on obama for thinking the American voting public is so stupid to believe he is the anointed.
A vote for obama is a vote for the destruction of American.

I consider Obama’s fellow parishioners who were clapping, hooting and cavorting during Wright’s hateful, anti-American sermons to be on the same level as white supremacists.
I would not vote for someone who affiliated himself for 25 years with a white supremacy movement and I, and no one I know, will support someone like Obama who has affiliated himself with the Black Nationalist movement for a quarter century.
From his support of Wright to the “typical white person” comment, it’s clear that Obama seeks to divide, not unite. Obama is a fraud.

Richardson is doing the Democratic Party and the nation a disservice by endorsing Obama now. Obama has no credibility, and has no chance to win the General Election. Richardson should have waited after ALL the voters speak. It’s unbelievable that Richardson is doing this at the time Obama is blocking a Michigan re-vote. Obama says one thing, does something else in action. We cannot have him as our President.

Do we really need to go over what Black Liberation Theology people believe?

To all you Obama haters – I would be careful dwelling too much on Rev. You wouldn’t want to risk that, would you?

Richardson called for both candidates to be civil for weeks. Instead of heeding that call, the Clintons have gone more negative. Richardson’s decision to go with Obama shows that he wants to move the dialog along and concentrate on Democrats winning the White House.

Posted by: Russ G | March 21, 2008, 1:03 pm 1:03 pm

Bill Richardson is an opportunist and not worth anything to Obama because most Hispanics remaine loyal to Hillary Clinton. Wonder what happened to the Obama campaign protests about Superdelagates being “required” to follow the popular vote outcome? With is “exception”? Anyway, if Hillary is not the Democratic Nominee, most of us Hispanics will probably vote Democratic for all positions EXCEPT for the position of President….in which case I personally plan to not vote if not allowed to write-in Clinton’s name. Hopefully, enough of us will vote like is and stop Obama from becoming President while making sure the Democrats have majority control of the House and Senate. This is the only way I can think of to keep the Republicans at-bay because McCain will win the Presidency if Obama is the Democratic Party choice. I am an Hispanic, highly educated female over 40 yrs. old, and guess what? I will not vote for a snake oil salesman. Furthermore, I am seriously thinking of changing my Party Affiliation to Independent until an new Party is formed…like the “United Party” maybe?

This marathon primary was an astonishingly stupid idea by foolish people who have compounded that error at every opportunity most recently by trying to undo punishments they set down for ignoring their stupid idea which would guarantee that next time every state will ignore them.
All that said this marathon primary has been a revelation and a blessing in a very good disguise. I did not know the American people could be so welcoming to a new idea especially coming out of the mouth of a person with a natural tan. I did not know the American people could be so hopeful and inspired and throw off so much fear and loathing everyone expected them to fall for.
And I had no idea the Democratic party had so many ignorant nasty little beasts in it. I haven’t seen one comment on a candidate’s policy or position just sniping and worse. No wonder Democrats have not beat Republicans for years, so of you ARE the mirror image of the worst kind of Republicans, self-parody conservatives whose words betray the fact that they don’t really believe in a single thing they claim to stand for every time they speak.
You should vote for John McCain when Clinton loses as you have threatened to. You’ve already run the Democratic Party as far into the ground and as far from its principles as you could. Mission accomplished. You can go home.

It makes me think that the only qualification for AAs for this candidate is his color. He has no experience, he’s naive, he’s contradictory, he’s unloyal, he apparently condones anti-MAerican statements, and for all intents and purposes wants to change this into a socialist society (look closely at his speech). “Purple” states are those where, for example, the Presidential vote in 2004 was separated by about 6% or less. Those include Ohio, Florida, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and New Mexico which Hillary either already won or is leading. These are the states that the Democratic Party must win in November. It is critically important that the Democratic candidate be the one who draws most strongly in those key states. To believe that the candidate who did not attract a majority of Democratic voters in the primaries there, will somehow get not only most of those Democratic voters but also draw similar voters from outside the Democratic Party is naïve and dangerous if your ultimate goal is to not have a Republican in the White House this time next year. Upto now Hillary has 2064 delegates and Obama has 1394 delegates using the same method that is used in the General election. Assuming that Hillary wins PA, WV,Indiana and PR & Guam and Obama gets SD, NC , OR , MT , she will have 2439 delegates and Obama will have 1606 delegates. If Democrats ignore this and give top of the ticket to Obama, 25% of the Democrats will vote for Republicans and we can lose both the House & the Senate. This is exactly what happened when Anti War hero McGovern was nominated and we lost all states except Mass.

Posted by: larry996 | March 21, 2008, 1:18 pm 1:18 pm

The color Purple. Much as we may crave it, we do not live in a democracy. If we did then each person would have one vote in every issue, and that vote would count as much as any other. But we don’t. If you participated in a caucus, your vote counted about ten times as much as someone who voted in a primary. In the general election, what ultimately matters is the votes in the Electoral College, not the popular vote, as we re-learned so painfully in 2000. So the question facing the uncommitted “super-delegates” is how do we run the best campaign with the highest probability of defeating John McCain in November, and win the majority of Electoral College votes. Cuurently Clinton has 267 electoral votes and Obama has 202 electoral votes using the same method as used in the GE. Assume that Hillary wins PA, WV, Indiana
and Obama gets SD, NC , OR , MT , Clinton will have 308 electoral votes and Obama will have 230 Electoral votes. You know who should be on top of the DREAM ticket.
Only a handful, either because of their almost equal balance between Republican and Democratic registrations, or the changing demographics, make the Electoral College votes for that state competitive. Those are the “Purple” states; those which are neither definitively Red nor definitively Blue. And those states are what this race, and the next one are actually all about.

Richardson was saying a few months ago that it does not make any difference as to who endorses who during the presidential race. For me, it is ok for him to endorse Obama just as the powerful house member Murtha endorsed Clinton a few days ago. But I heard Richardson is insisting Cliton to give up her presidential campaign now which is non of his business. If he continue to do that, he will be another looser just like Obama and how wonderful it would be those two running together as a team.

The majority of states are firmly planted in either “Red” or “Blue” territory. Because of their demographics, party registration, or culture, about 35 states are overwhelmingly likely to vote the same way they have for decades, for either the Republican or the Democratic candidate, no matter what name is on the ballot. In the general election, there is no proportional allocation of Electoral College votes. It’s winner-take-all. It is highly unlikely that any Democrat can win states such as Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Kansas, North Dakota, Alaska,Alabama, South Carolina, South Dakota, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas,Lousiana Nebraska, Missisipi, Montana, Missouri,Washington, North Carolina and others that Barack is winning .Only a handful, either because of their almost equal balance between Republican and Democratic registrations, or the changing demographics, make the Electoral College votes for that state competitive. Those are the “Purple” states; those which are neither definitively Red nor definitively Blue. And those states are what this race, and the next one are actually all about.

Why is so difficult for Africans to admit that other Africans can make mistakes or engage in negative behavior. The Wright incident runs across the spectrum of AfricanAmerican life whether it is Michael Vick, Michael Jackson or O.J Simpson. No matter the negative behavior, it seems they are incapable of sanctioning their own. You demand respect and atonement for the past misdeeds of others upon you yet defend the most despicable behavior of those in your community simply because of a shared heritage. It is clear that the Obama campaign were feverishly seeking something to stop the hemorrhaging of the last few days and made a deal with Richardson, politics as usual. It is rumored that Obama promised Richardson help for New Mexico if and when he becomes President.

From ‘Dreams of My Father’, “I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.”
From ‘Dreams of My Father’, “There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.”

Hawk, at least you are willing to look into the Southern Baptist denomination.
Here are the similarities based on the allegations implied here against Black Liberation Theology.
Southern Baptists:
1. They have strong ties to the KKK
2. Believe it or not they’re a predominantly white denomination with a handful of black congregations – Like Trinity and UCC.
3. They are/were (depends on the church) staunch supporters of separation/segregation
4. They believe race mixing is sinful.
I’m sure you get the point.
Now, with all of that said, I have enough sense to separate the individuals from the churches history and some of their extremist leaders. Im also intelligent enough to understand those well known generalizations are based on me looking from the outside in and there’s probably more to their story.
For that reason – I reserve judgement on individuals associated with that denonmination.
Jo,
Your problem is that I actually know too much and obviously quite a bit more than you.

You have saved them that worry and the polls now show McCann winning the election. You had a damn near unbeatable candidate and you kicked her to the curb out of some misplaced white guilt. So saddened you’re right: You and I know Obama promised him something…….VP you think! You know there is a catch to it. Would someone in his camp tell him to take that dang sign down “CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IT” people are laughing at it. First you have to tell the truth. Take your mask off let us see who you are. Had he taken the high road and been honest coming into the game, allowing the public to come to their own conclusions he might have had a chance. But he chose the low road….. And I don’t appreciate being an African American my pastor grouped with people like him and his pastor/mentor…. As far as Hillary not having enough delegates Obamba doesn’t have enough either. But he so silly I know what he’ll do. Since he can’t win she won’t win. The delegates can’t support him because at this point he is not the popular vote. And I doubt that he will be agian. So, McCain it is!

Posted by: Mgck59 | March 21, 2008, 1:35 pm 1:35 pm

Will you people get a clue? Do you really think Bush has done ANYTHING himself at all over the last 8 years? It’s Cheney and his cronies from CIA and Pentagon pulling the puppet strings. The president of this country no longer makes any decisions. Clinton or McCain will just be business as usual and keep the same jokers in place. Obama is the only choice for change!

I enjoy the comments from those of other countries who have a world view. However, how can they read all the ignorant comments on this page and still not believe that America elected Bush twice? The overblown coverage of 3 minutes of Rev. Wright’s 30 year ministry suddenly made people say, “My God, Obama’s black!” I think Obama’s speech will go down in history as one of the best ever. I fear it may be too intelligent for most of Americans to understand, however. Perhaps his real liability is his intelligence, not his race!

Posted by: nanc | March 21, 2008, 1:39 pm 1:39 pm

I also love the way that Hillary supporters feel the need to degrade Bill Richardson who has only been nominated for a Noble Peace Prize 5 times. Goes to show how intelligent the Hillary campaign is, and how low it will go to get elected. The Hillary campaign is not about ANYTHING but themselves and their own ego if they go as low as to attempt lower a 5 time nominee for a Noble Peace Prize.
Oh and sorry Robert Perez, the onlt thing I see wrong with what you said is that Obama leads in states won, delegates, and popular vote. The Obama magic has come to an end? Well the Obama camp now has the support of a 5 time nominee for a Noble Peace Prize and someone that was close to the Clinton family. The only thing wrong with what you said is that you have everythig backwards.
This is the end of Hillary. Time to unite behind the clear winner Obama who won more states, delegates, and popular vote.

Posted by: Anthony | March 21, 2008, 1:39 pm 1:39 pm

So are the Clinton Supporters saying this won’t have any bearing on this election amongst the super delegates?
Jerry, polls also say that 67% of Americans don’t care about the Rev. Wright issue and that comes in the middle of the most slanderous week to date.

after reading these post i’ve decided that the older generation is to set in their ways to give a woman or a black man a chance at giving this country whay they need.
I may be just a college student, and very young compared to some of you, but I do believe we need something new in office. Times are changing so lets go with the flow. I don’t understand how most white americans consider themselves non-racist, when these arguments and post that you have put up show where you stand racially.
some may think Obama is playing the race card….by the looks of your posts…..he just might have that right.
Gov.Richards did what he thought he had to do. So, if you don’t like it then tuff doo-doo.

The $100 barrel oil and $3.60 you pay for a gallon of gas are not accidents. Bush and Cheney and if he gets his way, McCain are all taking you to the cleaners. The Republicans can’t afford ths SCHIP program (30 billion over five years) because of the expense and the claim that it’s socialized medicine, but engaging in socialized banking by bailing out Bear Stearns (30 billion NOW) and the bank industry (200 billion NOW) is ok. Borrowing from the Chinese to pay our 60 billion dollar trade deficit is ok. Giving our children crippling debt for decades is ok according to the Republican playbook. So, you have two real choices: Give McCain the reins and allow him to run us completely off the cliff or like Richardson, choose to change course now and elect a leader who has the people’s interest in mind. Obama 08

Some folks are mad because who Mr. Richardson is supporting. The truth of the matter is this country can be represented by anyone of its citizens. There has never been a criteria or skill set to run for president. The truth of the matter is some don’t want to be represented by a black Man, no matter what his skill set is. Some say they will not vote for him because he is black. Some say they will not vote because of his pastor’s comments. Here is some shocking news…. he can’t control either. You can not tell any man to disown a family member or friend for what they say. He can’t change his color (sorry). I didn’t see anyone fighting to remove the charge the many speaking hate in the 60s, some are still living. Some may even be your family members, are you going to disown them? I see more and more everyday the racial basis comments being made and yet you want blame him for your comments. We must remember (or have you forgotten already) that some of the same people who Hung, Killed, Burned, Raped, Denied Opportunities to many African Americans still live today (do you know any of them). Why aren’t you carrying the same type of hate for them? It’s a shame how our true motives and feelings are hidden. When we are to expose them, we become very defensive and seek to remove the item or person who has awaken those spirits within ourselves. May God have Mercy on your Soul!!!!

Proud African american:
I too am a proud African-American and I’m supporting Hillary Clinton. I chose to vote for the candidate I felt was most capable of running the country. I chose not to vote for Barack simply because he’s black. The ISSUES to me were more important that the SKIN tone. Just the fact that you’ve chosen to title yourself “Proud African-American” proves that you are more concerened with the black candidate winning than you are with the best candidate winning. Obama has tried to avoid the race issue for over a year now, and it’s funny how his own past is responsible now for race being institued. Rev Wright, the “typical white person” remark; all that is going to cost Barack dearly!…If you think race is an issue now, just wait until after November 7th when McCain is our next President. If some black people are calling Hillary a racist now just wait to hear what they call McCain when he sits down in the Oval Office.

Bill Richardson is a superdelegate and he is entitled to his right to choose any candidate for whatever reasons he feels fit even his decision is against the choice of his state’s constituency.
Please take that to heart, Obama’s supporters. What’s good for the gander should also be good for the goose.

I never liked Bill Richardson anyway, and his motives must be sinister, same as Obama. This election is embarassing to the USA in my book. So silly for a bunch of grown men that ought to know better, makes you wonder if they all don’t have a Form of Insanity, and must have gotten stuck at dysfunction function. Just shows you, it’s going to take a women to straighten out this mess. Give Hillary a chance, at least she is American and the men have shown they can royally screw things up.
God bless America, again and we will be eternally grateful.

Wow, I see that HRC and her supporters are very much alike!! Vengeful, sore losers who will say or do anything if they don’t get their way……
If any of you heard Richardson a couple of weeks ago, you would know that he was going to endorse Obama anyway. He talked about how he felt some sense of loyalty to the Clintons after serving in his cabinet BUT that he REALLy liked what he saw in Obama. It was obvious where he was leaning…..but of course, because he didn’t endorse your candidate the HRC supporters as usual come out and spew their venom against Obama and Richard. HRC has divided the Democratic party and now has most-likely handed the election to McCain no matter who the nominee is….from my interactions with various Democrats, it looks like because of HRC’s divisive tactics, a lot of supporters of Obama will NOT vote for HRC if she is the nominee, and the feeling is mutual among HRC’s supporters.

I am not pouring cold water on Obama campaign. Actually I am leaning for him in the Nov general election. But so far I have concluded the following for Election 2008: (1) High profile politician endorsement has limited influence, (2) Heavy spending on TV ad does not work either, and above all (3) Public opinion poll can sway result in 180 degree direction. So stay positive, be your own. Obama handled the race issue really well. He was sincere and truthful. Obama disagrees Wright’s messages but can still consider him a friend. Just like you and I can argue and hold opposite view from parents, but you and I always love them.

I actually knew from day one (being from Chicago) that Obama was all fluff, and not so much anger but apprehension was what I feel when even imagining him in the White House. He is a total socialist, apologist, and a redistributionist. And he (along with Hillary) just voted for the largest tax increase in decades. Now here is where you have to pay attention. Most of that gets passed on to the middle class. Bad timing for Obama. The thought of Obama in the WH has officially won the title of “worse than fingernails on a chalkboard”.

I personally want my next President to know exactly how to handle the crisis America is in,and that sure ain’t Obama.
Hillary CAN and WILL know how to handle the job. Hillary won Bill Richardsons state NOT Obama..it seems to me that he’s going against what the citizens of NM voted for..so there has to be collusion between him and his racist buddy..He slapped the people of NM in the face..and I’ll bet they won’t forget it. To all those who posted comments against Governer Richardson’ decision should be shamed. This man has taken a personnal decision which he believes well best suit the party. He has every right to endorse Obama, that’s what makes free will so great. Simply because he does not adhere to our personnal ideas and thought does not make his decision wrong. You want to talk about making divisions, listen to yourselves. I’m sure all you Cliton backers out there have gone through Clitons background with a fine tooth comb right, I wonder what would happen if you were in Obama’s position and had your life under a microscope, how many of you would stand up as well as he has. It’s easy to criticize and belittle others when you yourself have not been in the same position and could never hope to be, much like the couch quarter back on sundays at home do when they believe that ‘had they called the play this way we’dve won!’ Give the Gouvenor, Obama, and Cliton a break, and as well as those who support them, for whatever the reason may be.

Democrats in general are redistributionist…that’s a fact. I agree it ultimately gets to the middle class but I just happen to be in the tax bracket that the Democrats want to tax more (which isn’t the middle class) and I’m not complaining if it’s a strategic investment. That’s the key. An investment now that pays dividends over the long haul.

Daniel’s post from above was so good, so true, I just HAVE to post it again because I can’t say it better myself…
“The profound ignorance Hillary-supporters show in comments on this site are simply astounding in its brevity.
The longer Hillary remains in the race, the longer the party remains divided, and the longer smear tactics are used rather than substance.”

Yeah, education is doing so well now in this country with all the money we’ve thrown at it at the democrats’ behest. The best thing is there is a concerted effort to make home-schooling prohibitively difficult to do legally.
Throwing money at this problem will not make people take responsibility for themselves, sit down, open a book (learn to read), and study. BTW, all the organizations that support teachers in this country and make it extremely hard to insist on higher quality of teachers support democrats…

Posted by: Hawk | March 21, 2008, 2:26 pm 2:26 pm

Hawk, I would love to square off with you but thus far we don’t disagree on the last two posts.
I don’t propose throwing money at the problem, I propose throwing money at the solution. However, I take issue with the assumption some of the students that are failing are failing due to lack of motivation or commitment. Inferior teachers, equipment and facilities are to blame in some areas.
Have you walked through a school in a low income area? I wouldn’t send my dog to be trained in some of those facilities yet we expect these kids to learn. That’s the extreme but it exists in the richest country in the world.
That’s unacceptable.

You can not sell Obama to the American people anymore because it got so hard and tasteless to swallow!

Posted by: Bridget | March 21, 2008, 2:31 pm 2:31 pm

Answer to Hill about to quit!
The dems may give the nomination to Obama but the American people won’t!
Democratic Party to go with Obama is a political suicide!
Hill should endorse Jhn McCain!

Posted by: WHO CARES ABOUT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY | March 21, 2008, 2:36 pm 2:36 pm

Bridget, apparently the American people are buying Obama over Clinton.
By the way, if Rev. Wright is what the Republicans plan to throw at Obama that’s a far cry from the arsenal they have against Hillary and (unfortunately for her) Bill.

Posted by: Proud AFRICAN American | March 21, 2008, 2:36 pm 2:36 pm

They have lost since immy carter and Jimmy carter was just like Obama !
the only good one was Bill clintion anyways!

Posted by: WHO CARES ABOUT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY | March 21, 2008, 2:37 pm 2:37 pm

Thank you so much Bill Richardson for your courageous endorsement of Barack Obama.
You are sending a signal to the DNC that it is time to put an end to the bickering and negative campaigning within the Democratic Party, and to unite and focus on winning the White House in November.
Barack Obama is the best candidate to come along in my lifetime, and I hope and pray that we as Americans will not let this opportunity pass us by!

Posted by: Karen in California | March 21, 2008, 2:42 pm 2:42 pm

This is no big deal: Richardson could have helped Obama pre March4th primaries in Texas. However, this is bad for Richardson as Hillary won the entire southwest, including his own state and with recent Obama revelations talking about his grandmother as a “typcial white person” bodes the end for both candidates. I hope once Clinton wins, she cuts off Richardson at the knees, and shuns Obama to the ash heap of history.

Charles, you know the Clintons well.

I can’t understand how stupid americans can be, washing their dirty linens in public. The hate I read is unbelievable and only goes to show that behind the holier-than-thou gospel of democarcy and freedom, they are not different from third world democracies like pakistan, kenya, etc. Hate only replaced physical violence. But for how long!

Posted by: Olotu | March 21, 2008, 2:49 pm 2:49 pm

Proud Jewish American, have you contributed or donated anything to the Obama candidacy thus far?
If not, where’s the loss? If so, would you like a refund? I mean, really what will make you whole?

Posted by: Proud AFRICAN American | March 21, 2008, 2:50 pm 2:50 pm

so many people just love to hate and we have so many shock jock entertainers that make alot of money feeding that lust. – give them a fragment of a sermon taken out of context and they can work them up into a self righteous indignant froth about their 5 seconds of listening for a sermon – which was obviously alot longer.
I believe everyone deserves their opinion and their vote – but it’s disappointing to hear the vile venom and rants that they will get even by voting for McCain.
It doesn’t sound like a party that’s interested in uniting – sounds more like it’s Hillary or death. I – won’t vote for that ever.

Posted by: vmcgreen | March 21, 2008, 2:51 pm 2:51 pm

I’m sure you can’t possibly speak for some of the more fair and impartial members of the Jewish community but didn’t the Jewish community endorse Kerry and Gore? How did that work out for you?

Posted by: Proud AFRICAN American | March 21, 2008, 2:51 pm 2:51 pm

Don’t forget the middle class homemakers who highly voted for Hillary!
we will not vote for an ANTI AMERICAN!
I will rather seeing the war 4 more years than sending an anti American to the White House for 4 years! God knows what Obama would do to our country?
GOD DAMN AMERICA and he did not even disown the man!
Middle calss with your words not educated women, will not vote for a looser works against the US goverment!

No offense middle class homemakers but he was never women the female vote and I guess you are assuming all middle class homemakers are “white”.

Obama will never see the White House!

Posted by: KING DAVID | March 21, 2008, 2:57 pm 2:57 pm

Obama won’t get my vote!
Who cares about pro-latino Richardson, latinos dont like Obama anyway, and now most America does not want racist or hyprocrit Obama as president, his polls are falling like a brick!

King David…good luck with that.

Posted by: Proud AFRICAN American | March 21, 2008, 3:02 pm 3:02 pm

Clinton supporters WAKE-UP! You are supporting a DEAD candidate. She can’t win, face facts. The DNC would never give the niomination to Hillary, Come and join John Mccain! Don’t vote for this divisive person Obama!

Posted by: Tom | March 21, 2008, 3:10 pm 3:10 pm

As evidenced in his church attendance, pastor-mentor relationship AND NOW his comments about his white grandmother being a “typical white person” because she was intimidated by certain blacks in the past on the street and made comments about it. Was that HER fault? I have seen white women walk past several black men on a street corner in the inner city–they make all kinds of filthy comments to them, may even try to touch them. She had GOOD REASON for what she said! Nice job throwing your OWN grandmother under the bus Obama for being a “typical white person”! You are FINISHED! Can you screw yourself any worse??? My money says you can!

Posted by: Tedd | March 21, 2008, 3:14 pm 3:14 pm

Obama already lost before the election started! What is the point to endorse him now?

Posted by: Rose | March 21, 2008, 3:18 pm 3:18 pm

The goal of the party is to get in the white house, or..? If the race is this close, it becomes a choice of who is best for getting in the white house. In a close race like this, no matter what who wins. Will Richardsons`endorsement make it easier to reach the goal? Probably not!

Posted by: John II | March 21, 2008, 3:26 pm 3:26 pm

i see all you obama supporters begging the clinton supporters not to vote for McCain, that our future depends on it, you have alot of nerve,McCain is the only future our kids have if hill isn’t on the ticket

Posted by: ATYPICALWHITEWOMAN | March 21, 2008, 3:40 pm 3:40 pm

Richardson at the rally for Obama said he was moved to endorse Obama by his eloquent moving speech on race. Which part did you like Bill? How about the part where he equated his Grandmother to Reverend Wright or was it later in the speech when he through her under the bus?

Posted by: yaquitheone | March 21, 2008, 3:40 pm 3:40 pm

I myself like the part where he starts off the guilt trip of slavery and leads into the American Original Sin part,,,,,,,,,,,,typical black man,,,,

Posted by: ATYPICALWHITEWOMAN | March 21, 2008, 3:43 pm 3:43 pm

Oh so I guess if Hillary isn’t the canidate we should vote for McCain so our children and their children can be in Iraq for another 100 years. How stupid is that. Sorry no thanks. That is not the future I want for my children.

I’m a Brit and I want to let you guys know that we in the world community were hoping and praying you’d vote Bush out 4 years ago. Now we are on pins and needles again hoping you’ll do the right thing and elect Obama. Let me tell you, if this were a worldwide election Obama would win in a landslide. People around the world are so inspired and hopeful in regards to his potential presidency. It would be sad if you don’t elect him. His candidacy is a labour of love. We feel the love over here. Do the right thing America. We want to like you again.

Posted by: Brit | March 21, 2008, 3:50 pm 3:50 pm

well i will take 100 yrs of fighting in Iraq over four years of fighting in our streets with Obama, over there we have a chance at winning, over here we don’t,

Posted by: ATYPICALWHITEWOMAN | March 21, 2008, 3:55 pm 3:55 pm

From what I’m hearing from Latinos at work is that they feel betrayed by Richardson. Hispanics in general see right through Obama. Latinos are solidly behind Hilary and relate to a strong alpha male like McCain. They are distrustful of men who tap dance with words as opposed to someone who looks you in the eye and tells you straight, like McCain. Typical Democrats, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. McCain advisors are you listening, all you have to do to win the Latino (MexicanAmerican) vote is have McCain look them straight in the eye and say on issues that matter to them, I’ll be tough, but I promise I”ll be fair.

This is a HUGE!!!! Bill Richardson is one of the greatest moral leaders of the Democratic Party. Let’s hope that many other superdelegates will follow.
So, cheers, and Viva Obama!

Posted by: Mark Webb | March 21, 2008, 5:21 pm 5:21 pm

We will NOT vote for Obama. He is not the man for the job. I don’t like the candidate, I don’t like the shafting of 2 states over politics. I don’t like the DNC…what’s left?
I don’t like that the Democratic party has really lowered it’s standings getting behind a man like Obama. We just can’t let our country and our children have and example like this.

Posted by: John | March 21, 2008, 11:53 pm 11:53 pm

what they say about politicians is true..if you want a friend get a dog. Wow what a friend Bill Richardson is. He would sell his own horse for a promotion…hopefully his horse will response by a swift kick to you know where. This yellow dog democrat is going to vote for McCain (holding my nose as I do it).

Posted by: rg | March 22, 2008, 2:50 pm 2:50 pm

Has anyone noticed that these superdelegates are choosing a candidate that was not chosen by their state in their primaries? i.e., Richardson’s endorsement makes the third former presidential candidate to endorse Barack Obama, following an early endorsement by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, and a February 26th endorsement by Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn.(Dodd is the only one whose state backed Obama). All these listed along with Ted Kennedy and John Kerry? Is this an acceptance of the fact that Superdelegates do not have to support the candidate based on who won their state? I THINK SO!! Thanks

If Obama doesen’t win the Dem. Nomination then Clinton has no chance in General. If anyone doesn’t want the Repulicans in the White House, then they should get behind Obama. I will personally do my best to influence others into voting for McCain if Obama doesn’t get nomination. We either get Obama or we get McCain. Clinton should have ran four years ago. The fact of the matter is, the Democratic party is divided. Obama has brought many to the polls who wouldn’t have even bothered to think about the primaries be for he decided to run. If he doesn’t Win, then the Republicans have a very very good chance of winning especially if Obama supporters vote against Clinton to spite her. Instead of not voting for the same old democratic politics, people will be asked to vote against the party. Either way they would get the same old politics and to politicians who are for the War in Iraq and a waste of life.

News flash people. Obama is ahead of Hilary in every way that counts – It’s almost mathematically impossible for
I would really love to know how what Obama said about his Grandmother is ‘throwing her under the bus’. It was an honest statement. And his grandma is the product of a couple of generations ago. Everyone, and I mean everyone is racist to some degree. My fiance is black and we BOTH lock the car door when we pull up to a stop sign if there are a group of blacks ‘hanging out’.
I would really love to hear some full quotes of Obama’s so called racism. Not partial ‘fox news’ quotes, but the full quote in context.
Regarding Michigan and Florida.. how is Obama doing anything wrong? Those 2 states moved their primary dates ahead of schedule – breaking the rules of the DNC. They broke the party rules and they had many warnings, knew the consequences and had time to fix things – Michigan and Florida stood firm and now have to accept the consequences – none of this is a surprise. They chose to ignore the rules. Obama followed the rules and did not campaign there. He was not even on the ballot in MI. How is that fair to him and what did he do wrong?
I’d also like to know why the media ignores the endorsement of McCain by this nut Chuck Hagee (google him) which he accepted. Obama gets slammed for comments he didnt say and that he has repeatedly said he does not agree with. What more is the guy supposed to do? Is he supposed to cut loose and disown a friend? God knows if I disowned a friend or family member every time they did or said something stupid, I’d be pretty lonely.
Instead of looking at his race speech for what it was, an attempt at starting a dialog, everyone is jumping on the guy for saying things that are racist. Can you really disagree with that speech? If so then you must think that there is no racial anger among whites, blacks or Latinos.. come on, really?
Bill Richardson is a good guy and pretty smart. He’s trying to not have the democratic party split. Look at the math.. it’s almost impossible for Hilary to win at this point. Ans as good of a guy as Richardson is I doubt he will be VP, but I’m sure he’ll have a cabinet position.
As far as McCain goes, he’s looking pretty good right now because Obama and Clinton are in a tight race. But he’ll get slaughtered in the general election. Can you imagine him in a debate against Obama or Clinton, it’s going to be ugly. 99% of the Clinton camp will support Obama if he gets the nomination, just as 99% of Obama’s camp will support Clinton. Really, who the heck are all of these Hilary supporters that claim to be switching to McCain – I’m betting you are Rush Limbaugh listeners. Who, by the way needs to be indicted on Conspiracy to commit voter fraud, which is what he did when he was asking Republicans to vote for Clinton. Did you follow the numbers during the primaries at all.. twice as many people voted democrat than republican. MOST people are sick of the war, sick of Bush, sick of republican scandals and want a major change.

Posted by: Common sense | March 23, 2008, 11:28 pm 11:28 pm

Jazzlover, I totally agree. I’m also amazed at how many people are claiming they’ll vote republican if their candidate does not win (seems like it’s mostly coming from Clinton supporters).
Does anyone really think that dems are going to switch parties when Obama and Clinton are almost identical on the issues?
How many people here think that a lot of the BS and hatred is coming from republican stooges. I talk politics with a lot of friends and have never heard this level of hatred and even ignorance of some pretty basic stuff.

Posted by: Common sense | March 24, 2008, 11:29 pm 11:29 pm

I seriously doubt Obama is going to be of any threat in Oregon. We arent big on racial ethics specialists becoming our next President. We have a lot of “Typical White people”, “Gun Tottin,”" Church goers”. We stand for not quitting in the middle of a race. Come to think of it we might be “bitter too” about the cost of gas to commute from rural areas to get to work. So please dont be trying to “disenfranchise” our votes in “Clinton Country”. Maybe you should practice your speeches a little more carefully(so you dont get mangled) and for God’s sake please try to be original. The rhetoric and “word borrowing” is playing havoc on my television set. Thanks
