War of Words Rages Between Clinton, Obama Camps

ABC News’ Sunlen Miller and Kate Snow report:  Gen. Tony McPeak, one of Sen. Barack Obama’s co-chairs, addressed, on camera, Bill Clinton’s remarks from yesterday in North Carolina.

Clinton in Charlotte said, "I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country and people could actually asks themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics."

McPeak, at a rally in Medford, Ore., read Clinton’s statement and responded, “Both Barack Obama and John McCain are great patriots who love this country and are devoted to it. So is Hillary Clinton. Any suggestion to the contrary is flat wrong.”

He added that he was astonished and disappointed by Clinton’s words and that he doesn’t believe these types of tactics belong in politics.

McPeak said Clinton should understand this, being a victim during his own previous campaign.

“I’m saddened to see a president employ these kind of tactics. He, of all people, should know better because he was the target of exactly the same kind of tactic when he first ran 16 years ago. They had no place then. These tactics have no place in American politics … And I am happy and proud to support a candidate who loves his country so much that he would never play that kind of divisive tactic."

Yesterday, McPeak made an off-camera statement likening Clinton’s remarks to McCarthyism. But today, his rhetoric was admittedly tamed. “[The]senator’s got me on a short string here ’cause occasionally I say something a little earthier.”

McPeak, in the past, has been somewhat of a loose cannon for the Obama campaign — most notably coming under criticism for his comment following Hillary Clinton’s tearful moment in New Hampshire when he said that Obama “doesn’t go on television and have crying fits: he isn’t discovering his voice at the age of 60.”

McPeak later took back those comments, and the Obama campaign distanced themselves from his remarks.

Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson calls McPeak’s comments about Bill Clinton’s words a "deliberate misreading" of what Clinton said.

Referring to yesterday’s reference to Joseph McCarthy, Wolfson added, “I think most Democrats would be shocked to learn that a two-term president was compared to McCarthy.  Comparing Bill Clinton to Joseph McCarthy is an outrage and ought to be retracted. That is a deliberate misreading of what the president said, and [McPeak] knows better.”

Wolfson said that Clinton’s original remarks had "absolutely nothing to do with Sen. Obama."

Clinton deputy communications director Phil Singer said he would encourage members of the media to question the Obama campaign about why they continue to invite McPeak to speak on the campaign trail. “It’s a question they should have to answer," Singer said.

“Senator Obama talks about running a high-minded camp and then continues to associate himself with someone who engages in these kinds of personal attacks," Singer added.

He said that, to compare Clinton to McCarthy “doesn’t pass the laugh test.  Instead of willfully and deliberately distorting Bill Clinton’s remarks, the Obama campaign ought to do a better job of making the case for why their candidate is ready to be commander-in-chief.  Manufactured attacks like this one aren’t going to divert attention from the Obama campaign’s recent political troubles.”

Obama, himself, did not address the issue at his town hall. Instead, in a bizarre order of events, at the top of his speech, said, “I’m gonna go a bit out of order here. Usually I don’t do this,” as he prompted McPeak to come on stage to make his comments on Clinton.

And Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said, in a written statement, "Since the Clinton campaign had a news-less conference call, reiterating tired lines of attack with no basis in reality, instead of responding with a call of our own, we are going to give the press corps a break so that we can all enjoy this holiday weekend with our families, and maybe even watch a little basketball."

UPDATE:

ABC News senior national correspondent Jake Tapper asked Singer how the Clinton campaign could be so offended by McPeak’s comments when Bill Clinton, in 1992, suggested that former President Bush used McCarthyism tactics. Singer replied, “President Bush actually employed a McCarthyesque tactic to which Bill Clinton responded. Bill Clinton didn’t question Obama’s patriotism.”

And when Singer was asked about Wolfson comparing Obama to former independent counsel Ken Starr, he said, “Ken Starr raised questions about Sen. Clinton’s ethics. The Obama camp is doing the same thing.”

Obama had to call someone else on stage to attack Bill!!!! This man is truly shameless. He is not even man enough to say his own mind. How idiotic can Obama be. In the WH, not that he will ever get there, probably he will call on Michelle to say the hard parts of the speech to the other world leaders.Men, another new low!!!!!!!

llulu:
I think it was good that McPeak was made to town down his attack on the Clintons, and in asking him to do that, Obama showed both his leadership and control that Hillary wasn’t able to show during the Ferraro incident.
Gerry went on to say the same ridiculous stuff 50 more times on TV. McPeak was quickly reigned in during both his incidents.

That Obama guy is just to much. It turns out that the company that looked at the passport files is headed by an Obama advisor. Obama is just plain stupid or is the biggest liar on this earth.

Posted by: jim | March 22, 2008, 2:51 pm 2:51 pm

Give me a break, everyone that heard that remark knew what Bill was trying to say. It is just more shameless race baiting tactics by Barrack…Maybe Barrack should denounce his lifelong mentor who spews hate

Posted by: Chipo1965 | March 22, 2008, 2:52 pm 2:52 pm

Now I remember why I was so sick of the Clinton’s in 2000, that I didn’t even bother to vote for Gore!

Posted by: Chris D. | March 22, 2008, 2:54 pm 2:54 pm

Memeoryaide: Gerry was speaking the truth about this race, another instance of Barracks campaign twisting words to race baiting. Pretty soon no one will be able to say anything about ethnic origin in the country without Barrack turning it into a slight against him and/or his church

Posted by: Chipo1965 | March 22, 2008, 2:55 pm 2:55 pm

I had some reservations about Obama early on but all these strange twist of events have led me to believe I could never vote for him. To much politics as usual with him. I wanted to believe in his change message but he doesn’t walk the talk.

Posted by: sue | March 22, 2008, 2:56 pm 2:56 pm

Can Bill ever shut up. I mean after she gives the state of the union, does he get five minutes? Does he get to “clarify” her statements, every time she makes a speech. Just who is going to wear the pants in the presidency, if she gets elected? Is she her own “girl” or not??? What the hell is she running for? Is she just Bill’s “sponsor”, is that why she let’s him speak for her?Why can’t SHE be the President all by herself? It’s not like she’s senile yet like McCain? This is the worst kind of stereotype for women, and she’s running on it. “I’m in charge, but I’ve got a President to take over when things get too tough.” What hogwash. Either she is going to be “her own girl”, or she can just stay home for once. Not that it’s gonna keep Bill home anyway. Personally how can you blame him?

Posted by: cba | March 22, 2008, 2:56 pm 2:56 pm

So it was Obama’s advisors company who looked at the passport files. Wow, that’s change you can believe in.

Posted by: Jack | March 22, 2008, 2:58 pm 2:58 pm

I love Bill Clinton … he can say in a few words what it takes NObama three days to put in a pointless, racist speech!!

Posted by: Jackson | March 22, 2008, 2:58 pm 2:58 pm

Bill Clinton needs to begin to chill just a bit. Let the rest of the primaries play themselves out. But it appears Obama is going to win the Democratic nomination. And if the 527′s want to play the Wright sound bites ad naseum this fall (and begin to sound more and more like a Michael Richards–aka, “Kramer”–rant) then let them. America isn’t going to fall for that okie doke again. Not this time.

Posted by: frankiestage | March 22, 2008, 3:00 pm 3:00 pm

I never heard anyone speak negative about the Rev Wright’s color. It is what he stated. If Rev Wright was Caucasian his comments would still be offensive. Obama turned it into a racial issue. Obama also supplies a picture of Rev Wright at the White House and a letter thanking him for attending.
I don’t know about you but I’ve never been to the White House and then Obama defends Wright’s comments in context. It does not seem to me that Rev Wright was treated badly by former President Clinton, yet he spoke with so much hate for Hillary Clinton.
From Day one Obama’s plan was to seek the support of a divided democratic party then try to unite the party in the general election.
Obama’s goal was to polarize the party in the same vein that Kennedy did with Carter years ago.

Posted by: Truth | March 22, 2008, 3:01 pm 3:01 pm

Obama can say “typical white people” and he is all over Clinton for saying nothing offensive. It never ceases to amaze me what his thought process must be.

Posted by: Janet | March 22, 2008, 3:02 pm 3:02 pm

Obama will talk about anything but solutions for America’s most critical problem: THE ECONOMY!

Posted by: Paula | March 22, 2008, 3:02 pm 3:02 pm

LOL! Looks like the Clintonistas are here in full force today. Keep it up, morons…even if you do manage to steal the vote from Obama with your GOP i-like smears and tactics, you will have turned off so many Democrats that McCain will walk away with the election. In so doing, however, the Clintons will finally be relegated to the fluid-stained dust-bin of history where they belong! Go away already!

Posted by: Change4Good | March 22, 2008, 3:03 pm 3:03 pm

When did the Hillary supporters get so angry? Do you think the vitriolic nature of the campaign might reflect your candidate a little bit. The only read differences policy-wise between HRC and Obama is her flip-flop on the war. In every other respect he is the ideal candidate, yet I read these comment boards and the Clinton folks are all so po’d. Just because he has beaten the pantsuits off her so far to an insurmountable lead is no reason to be so bitter. If she was more likable or less of a known quantity as a gouble-talking phony, she might not be in this mess. Don’t be so angry, IT HURTS THE PARTY.

Posted by: tom | March 22, 2008, 3:05 pm 3:05 pm

Come on, President Clinton’s comment were not anywhere near McCarthism…Obama just wants to make a big deal about this to deflect the attention off him and his “spiritual mentor.”

Posted by: Albert | March 22, 2008, 3:05 pm 3:05 pm

Just imagine if Clinton were the one blocking a DNC approved revote in Michigan! The press and Obama would be calling her a cheat, and a lot worse that I cannot print here.
Obama has turned out to be just another politician with a lot less experience.

Posted by: Sam | March 22, 2008, 3:06 pm 3:06 pm

Ya gotta love it! Bill, you did it again. Got them talking on and on and on. You really must have a lot of influence out there, because they sure are worried about every word that comes out of your mouth. Atta, boy!

Posted by: Byme2 | March 22, 2008, 3:07 pm 3:07 pm

This is really getting amusing. Obama was supposed to be the candidate who would transcend all this type of “politics as usual”. Now he will do almost anything to get the focus off of his “Reverend Wright problem”. Pretty low blow here Obama people.

Posted by: Jim | March 22, 2008, 3:07 pm 3:07 pm

If Hillary would drop out of the race as she should because it is impossible for her to take the lead, none of us would be wasting our energy fighting each other.
I don’t care what Bill or Hillary or Barack say about each other anymore. None of it matters because the nominee is Barack Obama. He has a 170 delegate lead in pledged delegates. It is impossible for Hillary to take the lead. We should all be yelling at the super delegates because they could end this thing right now so Obama and the democratic party can focus on winning the election.

Posted by: J in Seattle | March 22, 2008, 3:08 pm 3:08 pm

Let’s see, Tuesday Obama made a speech to do damage control for the Wright race issue. Wednesday-Obama does damage control of the damage control for throwing grandma under the bus in the first damage control speech. Thursday-Obama does damage control of the damage control of the damage control and calls grandma a “typical white person” throwing grandma under the bus for a second time. Friday-Obama does damage control of the damage of the damage control of yet another damage control for “typical white people”. Wow! That’s hard to follow. Poor grandma. So many tire tracks. Saturday-Obama uses another lap dog for more damage control. Can’t wait for Sunday.

Posted by: Dogsoldier | March 22, 2008, 3:09 pm 3:09 pm

Obama cannot face real hard facts and issue…that’s truth he ignore’s everything and turn it around like he’s the innocent victim all the time…instead of blaming Wright he blames his white grandma, instead of admit he does business with Rezko he denies it…etc etc what else is this guy hiding?

Posted by: MARINE4EVER | March 22, 2008, 3:10 pm 3:10 pm

I am sickened by the Obama Campaign. I find Obama to be a total hypocrit and racially discriminatory toward whites and expecially white women. Obama is doing everything to cause and start a racial civil war. I am disgusted by Obama’s constant attacks against Hillary and Bill. I have always voted Democratic since 1952 but I will vote for McCain over Obama. Hillary is a proper leader for USA. Go Hillary Go.

Posted by: DemocratForever | March 22, 2008, 3:11 pm 3:11 pm

A further comment about the Reverend, if he despises Hillary so much and hates “rich white people” so much, what the heck is he doing dining at the White House with all these type of people who he shows such obvious hatred towards in his sermons? Is the food that good at the White House?

Posted by: Jim | March 22, 2008, 3:11 pm 3:11 pm

Again, we see Obama playing divisive politics despite his call to a higher order to end the same old politics in Washington. His campaign and his surrogates propel these personal attacks on Hillary Clinton which only makes him out to be a coward. His whole campaign is predicated on race and he HAS brought race into these campaign from the very start not just recently. He is seen as shameless by many in the working class in his character assasination on Mrs. Clinton

Posted by: Jane | March 22, 2008, 3:14 pm 3:14 pm

You know, when this race started I was so happy that either way, we had two great candidates…Obama and Hillary, but after all the nastiness coming from the Clinton camp, I’m convinced the only one I would EVER vote for now is Obama. So, even if by some trickery or party hackery, Hillary swipes the nomination, I would rather vote for John McCain then see the Clintons in the White House again. There was a reason I didn’t vote in 2000 and I thank the Clintons for reminding me why! By the way, all you creeps here questioning Obama’s patriotism and descency should be ashamed of yourselves. You’re falling right into Rush Limbaugh’s pocket. Thanks for losing us the White House again!

Posted by: Sharon DeMateo | March 22, 2008, 3:14 pm 3:14 pm

Where in Bill’s comments does he mention Obama?
This is the Obama campaign playing the race card again, and Hillary should push back hard.

Posted by: DK | March 22, 2008, 3:15 pm 3:15 pm

Per the DNC rules, pledged delegates are not bound to the electorate. They can change their vote at the national convention. While the number of thme that have changed in the past elections has been small, this race is so close and unpredictable that it will matter. The superdelegates may not be the one to tip the election to Clinton. The pledged delegates can do it also. Currently Obama’s projected lead is 3.5% of the pledged delegates. It wont take many to change that. Voters need to realize the media sites are simply projecting a best guess and their margin of errors are greater than the margin of the projected lead. The race is not over by a longshot. Remember when Obama said if he can get within 100 delegates, he has a shot? This is what his strategists in his camp were referring to. Clinton knows this is true also. Both camps have admitted that both of them will be going after pledged delegates (not just superdelegates) at the convention. There will be a lot more dirt known to the public by August. I am seeing information about Obama coming out regarding stock purchases in a company that benefitted from his legislation, suppoedly he got caught campaigning in his Senate office (federal offense), the outcome of the Rezko trial is not known yet and he has an advisor at the trial every day, and now a company headed up by one of his advisors employed the people who illegally peaked at passport records? Oh yeah… lots more to come! The accusations against Clinton that prompted the lawsuit on her schedules have been shown without merit now that the schedules were released. I suspect other accusations will also be shown without merit. But in Obama’s case, he has consistently denied, lied, then admitted to lying while trying to turn the attentino off of him. His judgment is being questioned on many fronts and his credibility continues its dive downward. The race is not over, stay with it Hillary!!!!!!!!

Posted by: DCVoter | March 22, 2008, 3:16 pm 3:16 pm

Bill Clinton’s comments were hardly a slam against Obama, and anyone who thinks so – including Mr. McPeak – is just looking to start a fight. All President Clinton said was he believed his wife and Sen. McCain both love their country…he said nothing about Obama, nor did he question Obama’s patriotism.
I’m tired of Obama surrogates looking for something to fight about. Let these primaries in the remaining states and Puerto Rico play out, then move on to the convention.

Posted by: John Cummings | March 22, 2008, 3:20 pm 3:20 pm

Bill Clinton judging anyone’s patriotism is a joke! He and Cheney had their opportunity to be patriots, but passed the test. They let others bleed for our freedoms! He wants to elevate himself (and wife) to a position that never of them have earned or deserve. He is beginning to bring back all of the drama and none of the substance of a man that time is slowly passing by.
This is the latest sound bite to distact everyone from the real issues–The war, the economy, the ecology. Maybe if we all look over here no one will look to close at the Hillary papers just released and realize that she has been lying about NAFTA, and her readiness on day one. Nice try Bill, but not this time.

Posted by: DQuinn | March 22, 2008, 3:20 pm 3:20 pm

Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton both are selfish, arrogant and unprincipled people. Period. No place for them in Politics, forget presidnecy.
John Mccain is a decent man but he has no qualification other than supporting every war since Vietnam. No way he should be President.
Barack Obama has shown to be an intelligent person, has leadership qualities, talks with candor and shows a keen sense of being in touch with the pulse of the country.
He should be nominated President and we can all save a lot of money in avoiding these campaigns and elections.

Also, why aren’t you guys in an uproar about all the evangelical preachers spewing their hate…Hagee, Parsely, Robertson.

Posted by: Cathy | March 22, 2008, 3:24 pm 3:24 pm

LOL! Where was Clinton in Vietnam…oh that’s right, he ducked out of the whole mess! He’s a fine one to be talking about patriotism! McCain’s got to be the luckiest guy ever running for office, as the Democrats prove–yet again–why they can’t be trusted to run a Dairy Queen, let alone the country!

Posted by: George | March 22, 2008, 3:24 pm 3:24 pm

It saddens me to see all the Democrats fighting. I live in Oregon and I would not be upset to see the Super delegates start taking sides now to avoid a drawn out race.I really don’t care if my vote is counted or not. We need this decision to be made or we will not get health care in the future. I must say.. this last comment by President Clinton makes me so sad. He was a President that I really liked (despite his infidelities) and now he seems to be supporting the Republican cause at every turn having wonderful things to say about McCain. And Obama releasing that picture of his Preacher with President Clinton is a bummer too. We need to pull this together. I also think Clinton needs a wake up call on the pledged delegate votes. Are we gonna see a scorched earth because she doesn’t get what she wants. Its time for folks to make a call. Superdelegates STEP IN!!!

They just want them to open their mouth so that they can hammer them with the help of Obamas Internet machinary and high paid media. But, Americans are great and they know what to do when they go to voting booth.
Hillary will win 2008

If Hillary was strong enough to stand alone, she would. But she’s not and that is why she has Bill. Working women that do it alone every single day know a phony when we see one. You know her too–The wife of the supervisor that works with you–Yeah, she is a plus in the office…right. Keep telling yourself that.

I’m not a “Clinton person”, just an average hardworking American, but I support what Bill said because it’s true. We need to work on the issues. We need an experienced President who loves this country and wants to protect us and help us stay strong in every way. I would never feel loved or safe with someone as divisive as Barrack as President. My family history includes whites, blacks and Native Americans, but I guess Barrack would classify me as “typical white person” since my skin is pale. Instead I judge people by their hearts and character and not the color of their skin. I believe we need to vote based on character, actions and experience and not just on the color of someone’s skin, age or their political rhetoric. I’m grateful to Bill Clinton for having the guts to bring this up.

Ok enough is enough the Obama campaign is resorting to the same old politics that they said that they were going to replace. This coward of a canidate had to get an old general who has attacked Hillary in the past in the most personal of terms they admonished him then and now they pull him onstage to do Obama’s dirty work while he stood their acting like he is not part of this continued attack to harm the image of Bill Clinton for political gain. They are desperate to change the subject from his racist and ant-american preacher of his they will resort to anything. Well Mr. Peak I think you should ask Michelle Obama why she just started to love her country? Why the man he stands beside sat and listened to the most hateful and antiamerican speech for 20yrs and did not question it or remove himself from it.
You dare compare Bill Clinton to McCarty when Obama’s campaign uses race as a weapon to destroy their political opponets. What you have done general is to start a war within this party and the result is that Mr. Obama may win the nomination but those who support Bill and Hillary Clinton will never support Obama and by doing this you have given victory to McCain!

As we approach the 4000th casuality of the Iraq War, our economy’s in the crapper and more Americans are now turning to John MCain as the person they’d most trust to run America, I can’t believe this is all Bill Clinton and the Democrats have to do…trumpet the “patriotism” of Hillary and the other party’s candidate. I really am so disgusted with this country and now my party. Honest to God, we really, REALLY need a third party in America before we’re destroyed by fools like Rush Limbaugh and Bill Clinton!!

Clinton isn’t McCarthy, but he did know what he was doing. He’s an expert on the power and the meaning of words, and he is the ultimately campaigner. He lives for this stuff, and he relishes the use of shading and insinuation. (Do we all remember “plausible deniability” and “what is ‘is’”?)
Both sides just need to turn the rhetoric WAY done. Bill needs to shut up and go into retirement. The Obamaniacs need to calm down. And everyone should just let the candidates speak for themselves.

Posted by: James | March 22, 2008, 3:33 pm 3:33 pm

Disrespect a former president? I don’t have to, he does a good enough job of disrespecting this country for himself. He sets himself up to judge a patriot and he himself failed that test during Viet Nam. I refuse to allow him to elevate his position to judge patriots when I lost family and many friends for being REAL patriots. This is a conversation he should not have started–but it is making everyone look away from the Hillary papers and that was the intent wasn’t it?

Posted by: DQuinn | March 22, 2008, 3:33 pm 3:33 pm

But did you see that General? He was *so* obviously reading exactly what the Obama camp dictated for him! Look at the video. These weren’t his own words! He has proven that he is very good at spewing his own words.
These were the words that the Obama campaign wanted to say, but Obama was too chicken to say himself!

First they put out a photo of Bill Clinton shaking hands with Wright as if we are to beleive that Bill sat in Church for 20 yrs and listened to this hateful preacher. Then they say that Hillary has chacater flaws. Today they trod out this old general to make a political attack while Obama stands there and listens. are you implying that married women can’t stand on their own?
wow! here’s a whole new campaign issue we can throw into the ring!
In any case, Hillary, married or not, has shown on many occasions that she is more than capable of standing on her own… like in getting health care for 6,000,000 children!

Jackt51-Throw it baby! ‘Cause we can throw harder. Anyway, why did Obama choose Wright and throw grandma under the bus? Twice!

Posted by: Dogsoldier | March 22, 2008, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm

If Obama has a lead on delegates, he won alot of them with lies. Lies about his dealings with Rezko, a Syrian businessman who could produce alot of money from the Mideast for Obama’s campaign and 1.65M home. Also, of course, lies about where he was in the pew! If the liberal press had been doing their job instead of swooning over Obama, we would have known about Rev. Wright sooner and Obama would be history. Also, if we hadn’t gone to war in Iraq, Saddam would probably be flaunting his nuclear weapons right now – and where would that put Obama’s judgment. I’m proud of all our armed forces over there protecting not only Iraqi freedom, but also our American democracy.

DQuinn-I do not hate you or anyone on your side. First, you are an American. Second, we are on the opposite side. Three: We both choose words as our weapons just as you. Four: This in itself is our lesson to the rest of the world . . . we fight with words and change governments with words and that is the ultimate lesson of democracy itself. Agreed?

That draft dodging, fornicating former president Bill Clinton has a lot of gall to question anyone when it comes to patriotism. Where was he when was a young man and this country was at war with whoever? Whoops I forgot “I didn’t inhale”

Bill Richardson said that Obama speech won him over.Which speech Mr Richardson ? The one he borrowed from Rev Wright?Democrats are the most gutless set of politicians, they are unreliable and jelous of each other and you cannot count on them. What did Obama promise you Gov Richardson?I am sorry for you because Obama is going to loose and you are going down with him.How can you support such a racist?Obama is a big time racist and l am tired of people comparing that opportunist and racist to MLK.Is a disgrace and abomination to compare that toad to MLK and shame on you people for doing that. What has Obama done to warrant such coparisms? The idea that he wants to be President of this great country makes me sick and the Democrats must think little of this country to want to nominate somebody like that.If this is not the worst kind of affirmative action l dont know what is.I am also tired of their whining.

Posted by: Iffymens | March 22, 2008, 3:46 pm 3:46 pm

Obama leads in delegates. Hillary wins the popular vote without Florida and Michigan. What then? The Democrats can lose an election *they* said was impossible to lose and destroy all rights to the credibility of the DNC.
… or
we can tell the candidates to work out their positions and run together. Impossible, Pelosi says. Impossible the Obamites say. Impossible? It is the way to win and hold the Presidency for sixteen years. Anyone in the Democratic Party who can’t grasp the changes that would bring shouldn’t be in politics at all.

Posted by: len | March 22, 2008, 3:48 pm 3:48 pm

You know how I judge patriotism?
Obama has been an advocate of extending health benefits to our veterens- actively seeking that they be compensated for serving our country.
Also, he has spoken out about a senseless war, wishing that our young men and women come home.
Patriotism is devoting one’s life to service-military or civil.

Oh, come off it Gen. McPeak! Get hold of yourself! His own pastor Rev. Wright yelling “GOD DAMN AMERICA!” the man who married him and baptised his children! You’re are cheering on a candidate who comes from the far left fringe of American politics. You can’t compare Sen.Clinton and Sen. McCain to Sen. Obama’s off the wall politics; it will take lot of red, white and blue paint to make Sen. Obama appear patriotic specially, “wright now!”

Questioner–I’m not implying anything–I am saying that I have worked for over 25 years and my husband has never felt that he had to jump in and help me because I couldn’t do it alone–If he really wants to be the first man that much–shouldn’t he be studying up on how to serve tea? Let’s keep this in the real world–Hillary would not “rule” alone–If the phone rings at 3:00 a.m. We all know who’s gonna answer it–because he is answering it now! And women that have been fighting the glass ceiling for many years aren’t fooled–We’ve been around the “wanna be but don’t wanna do women” all of our live. That is why so many of us support Barack.

No matter how it gets spinned, at the end of the day the fact remains Obama will never overcome the Wright controversy in a general election. He will also likely face an election-eve indictment from prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald for taking bribes from Tony Rezko. This candidacy has been the creation of Karl Rove and his cohorts from the outset.

I love obamas sexist comment that Clinton is using the “kitchen sink” strategy. He is now saying all kinds of things about her personally. Talking about her character calling her a liar etc. I guess he is using what could be called the “tool box” strategy since he wants to get off the subject of race SOOO badly, only to make it about sex. With his now infamous “Typical White Woman” remark about his own Grandma!! I am white but I am sorry he to be “Typical” in his mind!!! I thought he was about ALL people, the agent of change and hope. Give me a break!!! From one “Typical” woman to another. I wonder if other races have “typical” woman or just white folks???

Bill Clinton remarked that it would be nice to have two patriotic nominees for the presidency and not all this questioning. When challenged by Gen. McPeak, your site posted the replay that Bill meant it was too bad Obama’s patriotism was being unfairly questioned.
So Bill Clinton thinks Obama should not have a chance to be a nominee because his patriotism is being unfairly questioned? Wow, how how fair that is of Hillary’s hubby!
Had he meant to say no candidate like Obama should be attacked regarding his patriotism, he is perfectly capable of making himself understood. And you know darn well that the implied remark was don’t vote for Obama because his patriotism has been questioned. Shame on Bill!

I agree with the general in the general sense. I always considered Bill Clinton the greatest President in my lifetime, but he has diminished his own stature and his status in history during this campaign for Hillary. I guess this was the price he must pay. After all, he does owe his wife a huge debt. Powerful people always have a powerful, and sometimes dark force, that drive them to achieve. Namaste. God Bless.

Cathy-Perhaps Obama can answer in his own words: From ‘Dreams of My Father’,
“I CEASED TO ADVERTISE MY MOTHER’S RACE AT THE AGE OF 12 OR 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites”
From Dreams of My Father, ” I FOUND A SOLACE IN NURSING A PERVASIVE SENSE OF GRIEVANCE AND ANIMOSITY AGAINST MY MOTHER’S RACE”.
From ‘Dreams of my Father’, “The emotion between the races could never be pure….. the THE OTHER RACE (WHITE) WOULD ALWAYS REMAIN JUST THAT: MENACING, ALIEN AND APART”
From Dreams Of My Father, “never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. IT WAS INTO MY FATHER’S IMAGE , THE BLACK MAN, THE SON OF AFRICA, THAT I’D PACKED ALL THE ATTRIBUTES I SOUGHT IN MYSELF.
From Dreams Of My Father:
“THAT HATE HADN’T GONE AWAY,” he wrote, BLAMING WHITE PEOPLE,- SOME CRUEL, SOME IGNORANT, sometimes a single face, sometimes just a faceless image of a system claiming power over our lives.”

There is a Whitney Houston song that goes “I believe the children are the future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them the beauty they possess inside….”
When the campaign started, I said I will vote for whoever gets nominated among the Democratic candidates because surely he/she will be good for the country. Top of my list however is Sen Obama who stands for the new politics of change and unity. My impression of him is he is a man of integrity, honesty and truthfulness.
When the revelations of Rev Wright and Antoin Rezco were exposed, my impression of him drastically changed. The most that bothered me is the question of Sen Obama’s leadership and judgment in relation to Rev Wright.
I believe that Sen Obama did not have the leadership and good judgment when he let the YOUNG CHILDREN even his own children be exposed to the unpatriotic and racial comments spewed by his pastor? Those comments were made in church where religion is reinforced. We know that religion is the most powerful influence in our life. We know that religion when practiced in extreme can cause havoc in this wonderful world of ours.
Aren’t parents supposed to protect their children from influence of unpatriotic words, hatred and racism? Parents should take an active role in determining what goes into their children’s young mind because it will be reflected in their behavior during their adult life. Otherwise, the cycle of hate and racial divide will just continue. Parents are responsible for what seeps in to their children’s subconscious, more so is required from those who profess to be leaders. Sen Obama should never run in a public office until he addresses the patriotism, racism and hatred in himself, his family, his congregation and his campaign.
I cannot imagine a person who wants be elected as a President of the United States of America, the most powerful position in this world, allow such sermons to be left unchallenged. Worse he condoned it by making the pastor his African American Religious committee member.
To make great speeches in national TV and declare that we should be united and racial divide should end but be complacent when confronted with it is tantamount to hypocrisy and grandstanding.

I enjoy reading most of you wannabe political analyst commentaries regarding Senator Obama. It’s somewhat amusing that you good people would prefer to maintain a political dynasty running this country forever while at the same time complain about how bad things are. This country needs a fresh break from the policies and politics of yesteryear and look into the future.
We have had 2 decades of Bush’s in power and 8 years of Clintons. The Arizona Senator is Bush-lite. Enough already, if obama fails as our next President then this democracy of ours is useless and I’ll go move to Sweden where ideas and social respondsability are common place.

How pathetic. Is this the best the Obama campaign can do? One more example of a guy who doesn’t walk his talk.
The same guy who wants us to transcend the racial attitudes of the past, yet he exposes his own children to a man who preaches racial hatred. He gives over 20 grand to a church that is exposing future generations to the same racial hatred he wants us to rise above. I am tired of this guy who keeps giving speeches because then he gets to answer his own questions. Why did he stay at that church for twenty years? I can’t figure it out.

Your very statement is sexist… Bill Clinton in the role as spouse to the female president… “learn to serve tea”. Hillary as First Lady learned how to serve change in America!! Much to the chagrin of alot of men that wanted her serving tea!! Just like michelle obama saying that her & barack feel that “she couldn’t run her own house how is she going to run The W.H.”? That is a very thinly veiled “sexist” statement blaming Hillary for Bills mistake. I guess it is official we can start blaming michelle for any wrong doings of her husband. We are finding out alot about him lately, and you Dquinn just threw michelle under the bus with your sexist statement, much like barack threw his Grandma under the bus with his sexist, racist comments!!!

Here’s an idea. In order to keep Barak Obama’s Nursery School from crying and whining about everything everyone opens their mouth to say for the rest of the campaign, just take Hillary and all her people and McCain and all his people and put duct tape over their mouths. They can go to rallys and interviews and be on tv with tape on their mouths and maybe they won’t say anything to offend the baby Obama. I’ll be offended by something Bill Clinton says if I ever hear him ask God to Damn American like Wright’s old uncle preacher. Since I don’t think that will ever happen, SHUT UP OBAMA WHINERS! Can everybody with a brain see what will happen in the future if Obama is President and the head of Iran or Osama says something mean about him? He’ll probably have to go to hospital and get a sedative. It’s a political campaign, GROW UP Obama!

Dogsoldier,
devastating post! you see, in his OWN words, page after page after page, Barack confirms through every syllable and image created, that he and his wife and their ‘pride’ for America is absolutely, intrinsically tied to Wright and Meeks. Michelle’s words were not a slip of the tongue. They were a slip of the heart.
If you are searching for a reason why these two stayed seated in that church for 20 years, and brought their daughters their, from Day 1, there is an obvious and simple reason indeed.
They believe every word they heard. They accept and acknowlege every sentiment stated.
They are in utter sypathy with Trinity’s philosophy and motto.
They stayed because they agree. Period.

I agree with you Melanie. How does the Obama campaign expect to survive if he is the nominee? We have heard almost nothing from the Republican camp because they are sitting back waiting to see how it ends between Obama and Hillary. If he is the nominee, the Republicans will eat him alive. Obama and his people act like Hillary and Bill are supposed to be out campaigning for him or something. If it was me and he got the nomination, I would not campaign for him then either. It would damage her politically in the future when he destroys this country with his racial anti-American beliefs. He got so popular so fast he thought that he was untouchable and in the beginning it did seem like a lovefest all around but his people talk about her Hillary and Bill on a daily basis so why would he be shocked when someone says something about him. His camp started all this racial turmoil. He tried to drag race into every little remark said all through the early campaign and then who’s side is it that is really racist? His. If he is the nominee and the KKK and other white supremacy groups start coming out and getting involved, his crowd won’t get any campaigning done for denouncing everything everybody else says everyday.

So, Obama likes to stay above the fray but has no problem standing next to a surrogate as that person demeans our former President as a McCarthyite. Again, I think TEAMOBAMA is putting words in their surrogates’ mouths. McPeak isn’t even old enough to remember the McCarthy period but Obama’s attack team has the savvy to know how such an expression can resonate with voters of a certain age. Shame on TEAMOBAMA.

At no time did he suggest Obama did not love the U.S. This is not the first time I’ve seen the Obama campaign use this sleezy tactic. First of all, Mcpeak was passed over by Bill Clinton, for Joint Chief of Staff Chairman. Clinton named General Shalikashvili instead. So the way I see this, is that McPeak is getting payback on Clinton by saying Clinton is like McCarthy. He only endorsed Obama to start with, because he’s holding that grudge. He backed Dole, and after that…. Guess what?….. He backed Bush!. So by all rights, he would normally have backed McCain. Second, If what Bill Clinton meant, was that the GOP would run 527 attack ads that show everyone with their hand over their heart during the star spangled banner except Obama, then Bill’s right.

An Interesting Alliance has formed between Clintonites (see Taylor Marsh), Freepers(many ring wing blogs to chose from), and the Talk Radio Right. We could call it an Axis I suppose.
All speak the same talking points and share a similar goal. These days it can be virtually impossible to distinguish a Freeper from a Clintonite when reading a Comment Board. They can sound eerily similar. And let’s not forget Rush Limbaugh dragging Hillary over the finish line in TX.
The term wingnut has had a very specific meaning in the past referring to a self described right wing nut. But if it is hard to tell a Clintonite apart from a freeper by their respective use of rhetoric, would it be appropriate to redefine the pool of people who qualify to be labeled as wingnuts?
Right now, I am not ready to do this. But we now have a name for this new Alliance.
The Big Three are now named:
THE AXIS of INCOHERENCE.

I.A. Beychock
Obama wasn’t part of the equation. He was speaking on Hillary as being the nominee against Mccain.
In other words, let me spell it out for you, obama had lost and Hillary is the nominee. He is referring to her knowledge of the war, foriegn affairs and getting to witness these two patriotic, knowledgeable people debating each other. Pay attention..you might learn something..back away from the Kool-Aid!!!

Would Rev. Wright still remain Obama’s spiritual advisor if he becomes president?

Posted by: onenibble | March 22, 2008, 4:53 pm 4:53 pm

This is the same tactic the Obama campaign used so successfully in South Caroline. And he wants us all to get along. Put a sock on it Obama. I’m done with you.

Posted by: Peter | March 22, 2008, 4:56 pm 4:56 pm

I think you have all lost your own minds. The Clintons are the ones who changed the entire tone of the campaign. They are also the ones who famously said that a candidate running for president must answer “every attack,” otherwise it’s gets construed to be true. I guess what’s good for the goose is not good for the gander. You people should read a very good article on truthout regarding Reverend Wright’s speeches. After all, folks, what he said may well make some white people uncomfortable, his comments are true. Furthermore, just the other day in Fayetteville, NC, a white man ran down a black man for asking his lady friend for a cigarette. This isn’t the 60′s, this is 2008, and racism is STILL ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN AMERICA. But, Reverend Wright is wrong to pinpoint it, is he? And furthermore, this guilt by association thing from all the candidates should stop. People should be held accountable for their own words. In spite of the truth of Rev. Dr. Wright’s words, you haven’t heard Barack Obama utter anything similar. In fact, he — like some white people –seems willing to forget that these things happen, even as they do!

Some one needs to be talking about the lack of patriotism shown by Obama and his wife. This country was built on patriotism and was founded by patriots.Americans need to wake up, Obama will not bring anyone together nor will he take new ideas to Washington D.C.,he will only divide this county even more with his obsession with race.

Posted by: Doretta Shelhart | March 22, 2008, 4:57 pm 4:57 pm

Obama does not speak to Reverend Wright (the reverend is out of the country, some say he has alzhiemers, and is in very poor health)
And I am sure you know that, even thought there is a new pastor at Obama’s church, Obama decided NOT to go to church this Easter.

Posted by: SARA | March 22, 2008, 4:59 pm 4:59 pm

Wright’s successor is Otil Moss from TUCC and shares the same views as Wrights…..if Wright is not Obama’s spiritual advisor, Otis Moss will be Obama’s spiritual advisor……so nothing is going to change as far as Obama’s religious connections go

Thinking,
Thank you. I do think it is a little different sitting in a church listening to hatred for 20 years than just having someone endorse you. Though, I wouldn’t be too thrilled to receive an endorsement as such. For me personally I would have left that church many many years ago.

Posted by: lois | March 22, 2008, 5:01 pm 5:01 pm

This is just another ploy from the Obama camp to try and take away attention from his relationship with the racist and American hating minister.

Posted by: Joe | March 22, 2008, 5:02 pm 5:02 pm

Why Obama himself or his camp react so defensively when anyone asks legitemate question or questions on him? They just accuse other people without answering the question. Where he learn those dirty tricks? It definitely not from American politics. If Obama has nothing to hide, why he or his camp are so nervous?

Posted by: Zack | March 22, 2008, 5:05 pm 5:05 pm

I cannot believe this. Now “Obama hates his country?” That is ridiculous. I wonder how you people would feel if you had been treated as black people have been treated for more than 400 years. Again, the Clinton’s are the one’s who injected racism into the equation. Stop blaming Obama for that. They felt they were losing and will stoop to any level to win. What we are now seeing is the things Republicans used to say about the Clintons (even though they can’t talk with their Rovian tactics), but Clinton lovers like me, didn’t see it, much less wanted to believe it. Well, the Clintons are plenty ugly, and I don’t see how anybody can defend them! They can take credit for taking the Democratic Party to the Center, which alienated the left, and how they’ve completely fractured the party! They don’t care about the carnage they leave in their wake, just so they win!

Ginny Albert
You are 100% right. Racism is STILL ALIVE AND WELL IN AMERICA. I to have a story to tell, except I didn’t read it I lived it. It started with a gun, kidnapping and I guess I don’t need to detail the events any further. Any person with half a brain could figure it out. While this was happening the person on the other end of the gun was screaming racial epithets at me, while he beat me etc. You see I am white he was black. Yes racism is alive and well in America. But don’t think for a minute that this made me hate black people. I was 14 when that happened. I had a daughter much later (my husbands actually, we raised her) she married a black man and has 3 children I love dearly. So yes, we can get past it. But when a man stands up to lecture me on racism and what I need to do… he needs to shut up and talk about reverse racism too. Not just what white America has to do to fix it!!!
Have a lovely day Ginny stay away from the Kool-Aid it clouds clear thinking!!!

THE GUILTY DOG BARKS FIRST… IF OBAMAS CAMPAIGN THINKS BILL CLINTON IS TALKING ABOUT OBAMA.. MAYBE THEY KNOW SOMETHING THE REST OF US WILL SOON FIGURE OUT.. BILL CLINTON NEVER MENTIONED ANYBODY AND OBAMA JUST THINKS THAT CLINTON WAS TALKING ABOUT HIM.. IS HE GETTING A LITTLE PARANOID?

Posted by: kelly | March 22, 2008, 5:08 pm 5:08 pm

Ginny get your facts straight. Remember the talking point memo about race the Obama camp admitted existed during the Debate. Then he said we need to do a better job of keeping people in control. Do you remember that? Watch the debate if you don’t? The memo was to examine everything the Clinton’s said that could be construed as racist. I’ll admit it worked well for him, just look at your comments. He was actually successful at painting the Clinton’s as racist. Now they may be a lot of things, but racist isn’t one of them. They’ve done more for civil rights than Obama ever has.

Posted by: Holly | March 22, 2008, 5:10 pm 5:10 pm

Joe (North Dakota), I am so glad that there are people such as yourself; Level-headed individuals who can see the forest for the trees. A person who is not swayed by dirty politics, and who realizes that the GOP seems to be doing well during the presidential campaign, because they didn’t have viable candidates. That’s why they were able to choose a candidate so early. Unfortunately, John McCain, who trod on his own principles in order to woo the far right, is the only semi-viable candidate they had. I could have voted for any one of the Democrats, because each of them have substance, experience, a plan to bring the country together, and favor all Americans instead of the top 1%. If we can keep in the forefront your comment that John McCain means 4 more years of George W. Bush, then perhaps we can get somewhere. I am now for the super delegates choosing their candidate now (whether Clinton or Obama), before the party totally self-destructs.

Posted by: Ginny Albert | March 22, 2008, 5:14 pm 5:14 pm

Yeah whatever.. Obama has no chance..

Posted by: kelly | March 22, 2008, 5:18 pm 5:18 pm

Kelly, the Clintons are also a lot older than Obama, so to compare their civil rights record with his is rather ludicrous. The debates catch people off guard and any candidate can answer a questions in a way that they later regret, and while I don’t remember what you’re talking about, I get the point. But I will say this, if the Clintons are such lovers of civil rights and the rights of African Americans, why didn’t they abolish the VOTING RIGHTS ACT and make it the law! Does the right to vote for white Americans come up for discussion every 10 years, to see if they can in fact vote for 10 more? Does it make any sense? The GOP nearly didn’t ratify it this time around. It’s almost like blackmail — If blacks get out of hand, or become too powerful, we’ll just take away their right to vote, and they’ll be reduced to nothing!

AT LEAST THIS TIME, B O WON’T BE ABLE to sidle out of his abominable handling of President Clinton’s comments by saying “I was unaware of what was going on”.
As for Bill speaking in behalf of his wife, why shouldn’t he? At least HE doesn’t come up with political gaffes like “I’ve never been proud of my country until now”.
Clinton has taken the rap for B O’s raising the race bar ever since South Carolina when he factually stated that Martin Luther King’s dream wouldn’t have become a reality without it’s enactment by President Johnson.
As for HIllary, she’s strong enough to stand alone and smart and feisty enough to be a fantastic president. She stood by her man, and now he’s standing up for her.
It’s time to lower the boom on B O.

james4hill – Obama said that the things that he heard his pastor said that were controversal were about adultery, “that his pastor has a blunt way of speaking about that subject that made the people in the congregation blush”
Go look at the CNN – Anderson 360 interview where Anderson specifically asked him what controversial things he has heard, and Obama told him about the sermons his pastor would give about things such as adultery, in a blunt manner. Obama reiterated to Anderson that he had NEVER heard the 2 sermons that the news stations keeps running over, and over, and that he was NOT in church when the 2 sermons were gioven by his pastors. AND it has been proven, by news organizations that Obama was NOT in church on those two days.

1.) Obama needed to take the focus off the Wright story.
2.) Poof – someone snooped in Obama’s passport file.
3.) Oh wait, they also snooped in Clinton & McCain’s files.
4.) Oh wait, the head of the contracting company who snooped is an Obama advisor.

Bill Clinton was out campaigning for Hillary in North Carolina, before a group of vets who would normally lean toward McCain, and he compared Hillary’s patriotism to that of McCain.Sorry, Obama, you weren’t even in the conversation. This is getting ridiculous – Obama campaign attacks that are so pathetic and transparent – sorry, we know you’re vainly attempting to turn the conversation away from Reverend Wright, but too many Americans have seen those hateful tapes, and too many of us will carry those thoughts all the way to the voting booth.

Posted by: Grammy Barb | March 22, 2008, 5:28 pm 5:28 pm

If Obama was white he would not have been still running after all of that scandal with his “uncle” pastor. We, the “white people”, cannot use the word “black” in public, only African-American; while on the other side, a person that attends an African-American racist church every Sunday and listens to the bias of anti-white preaching, can still be running for president!!! Do you really think Wright has preached that kind of preaching just that one time?
Obama said “the most segregated hour in American life occurs on Sunday morning”. I don’t think so! I never ever heard of any white priest preaching from the altar such racist ideas against blacks, or any other segments of the American population. Probably that is happening in Obama’s neck of the wood…
Well, if lefties (Kerry & Co.) succeed in hijacking the Democratic Party leadership, I can see that a lot of Hillary supporters would vote for McCain. Obama’s candidacy has been artificially blown out of all proportion. Does he really believe that he stands a chance to win the General Election? Everyone I know would vote Republican this time if Hillary is not going to be the nominee…
Obamatics forget that the majority of the US are not lefties. Bill Clinton knew this very well. That’s why he was able to build a centrist oriented coalition & won both elections.
Also, it was in Obama’s interest for Florida & Michigan not to rerun their primaries. Do not forget the majority of the voters in both of these states voted for Hillary. That’s why lefties are not interested in finding a solution. He knew full well he would lose both of them. So, how he is going to win without Florida & Michigan?
What a sad joke!!!
Also I am not suprise of the ABC’s bias take on politics. Poor Americans for the news coverage they get!

Brenda, I’m sorry for your troubles, but please understand that I know racism goes both ways. However, I should think you and yours would at least concede that it is far more prevalent from white to black than the other way around. I have trouble with PEOPLE who are racist — white and black. It doesn’t help, though, when an entire people learns to hate themselves because they are told that they are inferior. Whites don’t go through that. And please know this, my brain is no more clouded by Kool-Aid than anybody else’s. I guess in a way, it is productive that we’re having this debate, as before nobody discussed it. Forums would even delete certain comments, which did not get through to the masses. Now, we are having a healthy dialogue. Hopefully, we’ll learn from it! I also hope people who planned to vote for Obama still vote for him. Both your blood and mine runs through his veins.

Clinton slings mud… much how two high school girls fight – lots of cheap shots and backstabbing followed by “oh, I was not aware of this happening”. I won’t even mention the continued flip flopping on issues (FL/MI, NAFTA, war, “experience” and… unions (she says she back these groups but when you look at her career, she’s been unsuccessful at any union task she’s worked – as well as healthcare (except for 1). She’s like a teenage girl that can’t make up her mind on what clothes to wear for the day – she can’t just stick with a single strategy.
Obama does damage control for comments taken out of context, people he knows and short 30 sec vids of his minister that was quoting US Generals but the clips were to short to realize he was quoting others – as well as people not understanding cultures other than their own.
We’re all American – we just do things different… be open, welcoming and come together!

Why in the world does Hillary Clinton allow Bill to even speak for the campaign any more? Doesn’t anybody in the campaign realize that every time he gets in front of a crowd and wags his thumb like he did during “the good old days” that it just makes people cringe. The ex-president is probably the worst advocate for his own wife’s presidency. For this reason alone, Hillary has no future in any office higher than what she has now. People are never going to be able to get past the thought of having Slick Willy in the White House again. Obama benefits every time Bubba opens his mouth, can’t anybody in the Clinton campaign see this?
And what gives with Carville referring to Gov. Richardson as “Judas”? Give me a break. So because Richardson agreed to serve Bubba in a couple of offices, he’s supposed to support Bubba for the rest of his life? This is exactly the kind of politics that wreaks — cronyism. Down with Clinton, down with Carville, down with Cronyism in all of its ugly-headed glory!

It’s funny also how people keep calling Obama a whiner, and think he shouldn’t respond to anything, and get upset about what his responses are. And yet, for everything that happens, people’s votes ARE affected. It proves a candidate ABSOLUTELY MUST RESPOND TO EVERY LITTLE THING, because contrary to the claim by EVERYBODY that they hate the negative campaigning, they are still influenced by what the other camp reports on their rival, while expecting that same rival not to prove their innocence. It looks as though we’re all a little crazy! It’s like taking the 5th — if you won’t respond, people think whatever you’ve been charged with is true!

The Clintons have lost the poplular vote; she has lost more states; she has 150 less delegates. This thing is over regardless of how close the media want to make it for their own ratings, IT’S OVER and Hillary lost. These Clinton supporters can’t claim they’ve won more states, delegates, or popular vote. They are blowing hot air now and attempting to frame this thing they would like it all the while destroying the Democractic Party for her lost campaign. This needs to end, the Clinton’s have lost. Deal with it. “It’s Not Over” because the final bell hasn’t rung (last contest is not over), but have no doubt, the fate has ALREADY BEEN DECIDED. THIS ELECTION IS OVER AND OBAMA HAS WON. PERIOD.

Is that what you want?

SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!
It wouldn’t suprise me that the totals given by the Obama Campaign from contributors were off the mark…MAYBE BY MILLIONS, just to exagerate and sensationalize the “so called” CAMPAIGN OF HOPE

I honestly believe that Mr. McPeak read more into Bill’s speach. He assumes Clinton was making references to Obama’s unpatriotism. Well, lets call it like it is, and see Obama for what he really is. Obama is walking a fine line by allowing his attack dogs out. He should at least coach them on what to go after. After all, he is the puppet master, and his people, stooges. Obama is and will be the greatest act in our American history. God save us all! And for those looking for hope and salvation, believing that you’ll find these in this man, think twice. You’re about to make a big mistake, one that could have dire consequences.

Posted by: Mike | March 22, 2008, 6:15 pm 6:15 pm

Obama’s on the ropes again so he’s trying to go around Hillary once more and engage Bill. Only this time it is so transparent who is on the attack. McCarthy?! Shame on you Barrack. Lifelong Democrat here, and at this rate the only way Obama will get my vote in November is if he is in the VP slot on the same ticket as Hillary.
The whole party right now is feeling buyer’s remorse. To demonstrate they are not willing to play “politics as usual,” the Obama camp should agree to re-votes in Michigan and Florida so the will of the people can truly be known. If he blocks those efforts, that alone should disqualify from the party’s nomination for President.

Posted by: JETrout | March 22, 2008, 6:16 pm 6:16 pm

You know this Obama, Rev. Wright spewing hate stuff is ridiculous. The man is not a member of the Church of the Identity, and Rev. Wright is not pastor for such a racist church. The only people who would equate the two are non-Blacks who know little to nothing about Black people, Black-American history, or Christianity as it was disseminated to African slaves. It is laughable that some white guy in up state New York, or De Moins, Iowa is going to speak knowingly about the Black American experience as it relates to religion, when that same white person doesn’t belive there is any racism left in this country.

Anthony: thats not true.
If Michigan and Florida were counted, as democratically they should, Senator Hillary Cinton will be ahead. Period.
Secondly, the Republican help you got for Barak is going to dissappear when it comes to the general election.
Senator Clinton will be the Presidential Candidate – rightly so – because she is the most capable to lead our country and include everyone.

Posted by: Retro Vision | March 22, 2008, 6:17 pm 6:17 pm

Exactly, you have nothing to say to the fact that The Clintons have lost the Popular Vote, States Won, and Delegates Won and that there is not enough contests remaining to catch up. Thats when you call a race. It’s over. Hillary has lost.

So, you say $50,000,000 and the Obama can’t run a campaign? Well, the Clinton’s have run SEVERAL campaigns, more than enough to make zilch mistakes, and yet they’re making them like 40 going North, South, East, AND West.

It may seem like it’s over for the Kool-aid drinking progressives(liberals), but this will follow Obama for the rest of his career. Anti-White racism is only ok to White-guilt voters and Black Americans.

And the Yankees would have over come the Red Sox if they counted Spring Training games. Then why did Hillary already sign off saying that it was ok if they didn’t counted BEFORE she was losing?
Second, it is Rush Limbaugh who is supporting Hillary.
Three, that is only your opinion, and there are more people who voted against your way of thought. More States Won for Obama, More Delegates Won, and More Popular Vote won for Obama.

Oh, and folks… Lets not kid ourselves. Obama is going to win the nomination and the presidency. So be prepared. Don’t get me wrong; we’ll get to know a lot more about Obama, good and bad. A lot more bad than good. But somehow, he’ll manage to survive, unscathed by any of it. This will not hinder his momentum.

That’s right, Senator obama was shaken up, so the strategy was to create a distraction: THE PASSPORT STORY. And to make the issue more believable, Clinton’s and McCain passports were also looked at. What a joke. Obama will never be elected president. His supporters remind me of those fanatic sheiks sermons.

Posted by: malthusian77 | March 22, 2008, 6:32 pm 6:32 pm

I keep reading people say that the Democrats should not step in and endorse anyone yet (thus basically asking voters to abandon a certain candidate) because Obama isn’t winning by much and Hillary still has a chance. Umm…Yes he is and No she doesn’t. She has lost the nomination, the media just wont report it for the sake of ratings and love for the Clinton name. Remember when Hillary came back from the dead in New Hampshire? I do, and then it mattered, but now it doesn’t matter anymore. She can “get back up from the dead again” (lame) and win all the remaining contests and she still would be behind in States Won, Popular Vote, and Delegates. Also, people forget that she had a rebound in New Hampshire, sure, but she was also knocked dead again by losing the majority of contests and delegates on Super Tuesday and then losing 13 in a row.
Let’s also not forget that she was FAVORED to win both Texas and Ohio. The media allowed her to define her own standard of victory by claiming that if she merely won both that she should be allowed to continue. This was false. She needed to win by HUGE margins and she failed to do that, and though it’s not official, she LOST the Texas Caucus, which we’ll all find out on March 29th.
THE TRUTH IS that this contest WAS over on Super Tuesday, but the media somehow allowed Hillary again to define own standards of winning or drawing by letting her claim that if she won California that she was still alive or even somehow won on Super Tuesday, despite the fact that SHE WAS FAVORED TO WIN CALIFORNIA, and Obama still took many of the delegates from her there.
This contest is over and Obama has won. Are Democratic Party leaders THAT stupid by not endorsing Obama to let it be known to the Democratic public that they do not support Hillary’s negative campaign that can no longer even win her the election, but rather simply help destroy Obama in the general election and sink the Democratic party not only in November but for potentially years to come?
Pelosi, Edwards, and Gore have a responsibility to their parties, and frankly, the fact that they don’t see that point, and don’t act on it, in my opinion, are hurting them personally and hurting the party. Democrats have gained the reputation of only doing the safe thing and not sticking their neck out for what they really believe, and here we go again; Pelosi, Gore, Edwards continue to do the safe thing and continue to not endorse anyone for their own political reasons, because they can’t see where this race is going to end (which is just bad sight) and what the safe bet is to make. The fact that Hillary has tried to bring the ENTIRE PARTY down with her sinking ship instead of bowing out gracefully in a “Choose me or I”ll kick more dirt on Obama than even McCain will or can” strategy that she is using now is all that ANY Democrat needs to see to know that The Democratic Party should be behind Obama (and that whole winning the popular vote, more states, more delegates doesn’t hurt either).
Gore, Edwards, and Pelosi need to do what many people think that Democrats are incapable of doing in recent years-showing some fortitude, spine, guts, resolve, and insight by sticking their neck out for a candidate and their party (and it wouldn’t be sticking it out much because this race is all but officially over and they can help make it officially over and concentrate on McCain). You remember that whole saying by Bush (regardless of how meaningless and empty it was) that “You may not always agree with me, but you know where I stand.” ?????? THAT WORKS! And, right now, people don’t know where The Democratic Party leadership stands in a race that has gone out of control and is hurting the part itself.
Back to the media, Bill Richardson, someone close to the Clinton family both personally and politically came out to endorse Obama. However, I suppose in the eyes of many media personalities that the endorsement of a former member (Tina Fey) of a TV show that hasn’t been funny in 15 years (SNL) carries more weight than the endorsement of a 5 time nominee for a Noble Peace Prize.
The media needs to stop this already! This is a sign that she has lost and that reality is in fact, reality.
In the James Carville World (and I suppose he just compared the Clintons to Jesus by comparing Richardson to Judas) Clinton still has a chance. In reality, and in terms most people will understand, Hillary is in a playoff race that “comes down to the wire”, but she down in the 7th inning by 15 runs. All she has to do now to move on is recapture the tie, convince the umpires that Spring Training games should be allowed to count as Regular Season games, and then convince the MLB that she should move on because she tied.
Shame on the media and all we hear about from those terrible spin machines in no other than New York is how Pro-Obama the media is. The fact that they haven’t declared her dead when she is, is evidence that they are Pro-Clinton and falling victim to the same thing that happened in 2000 with Bush-Gore (Guns, Lawyers, and Money), and it just goes to show, that the Clintons are fine with this because this is the type of campaign that they have run this season, and they don’t mind winning on the same terms that they’ve played this season- on Karl Rove Terms.

HE BETTER TAKE A LEAF FROM FORMER PRESIDENTS LIKE BUSH (SR) AND CARTER, OTHERWISE, HE WILL LOSE WHATEVER DIGNITY AND HONOR THAT IS LEFT OF HIM. THE REASON HE HAS COME TO THIS DISGRACEFUL LEVEL IS THAT THE CLINTONS THINK THEMSELVES AS SUPERSTARS IN AMERICA POLITICS THAT CAN GET A WAY WITH ANYTHING. THEY ARE WRONG. THE TRUE SUPERSTARS IN AMERICA POLITICS AS WE HAVE BEEN MADE TO LEARN ARE THE VOTERS THEMSELVES. WAKE UP BILL CLINTON. YOU ARE STILL SLEEPING.

I pray that the Democrats pull back from the brink here before they destroy our chances in November. I have been unhappy with many of the things coming from the Clinton camp and am an Obama supporter. Given previous statements by Bill, it’s easy to see why people are hearing his latest statement as a giant slam at Obama’s patriotism. And it may have been meant as such. However, you could also read it as his wishing the campaign were such that the two well meaning patriots in the Democratic race — Hillary and Barack — were competing on the issues and not “all that other stuff”. Regretably, Bill has contributed so much to the rancor and divisiveness of the campaign himself that it’s easy to see why he’s not getting the benefit of the doubt.
The world is hanging in the balance here and the Democrats have got to remember that no matter how passionately we feel about our candidates (and I am absolutely convinced that Obama is the right person for the job), it would be nothing short of national suicide to allow four more years of war mongering Republican rule.

As usual Obama uses someone else to spew his venom, in the same way that Jeremiah Wright has been his racist anti-American mouthpiece. He keeps undermining unity in this country in so many subtle ways while blaming the Clintons. How can such a hypocritical coward be the leader of the free world?

Posted by: gamgirl | March 22, 2008, 6:39 pm 6:39 pm

Remember last time when Obama, Sen. Kerry, Sen. Richardson, and Gov. Richardson prematurely called on Clinton to quit the race. Clinton severly beat Obama in the larger states. He has only won 1 large state–IL. We just have to see how things play out. Obama has been such a whimp and coward that even if he gets the nomination…he can’t win general election. Republicans are already preparing the swift boat ads. just wait.

This is truly another i;; advised ploy by Barrack and his advisors to create negative press for Clinton. This man will stop at nothing, he is constantly on the prowl for anything to turn into an issue to divert attention from the real issues at hand. His campaing is in trouble, his numbers are dropping by the minute and people are starting look beyond his oratory skills and see that he has no substance.

Posted by: jim | March 22, 2008, 6:46 pm 6:46 pm

From all of the Clinton supporter posts, it appears that what they dislike most is that this is going to be a close loss for her. Unfortunately for her, no matter how hard she tries from here on out, she’s going to do no better than have a close loss. She’s not going to win every state left, and she certainly is not going to win by the landslides that she would need to break even in the states where she probably will win. Unfortunately for the Hillary Democrats, it’s going to be close, but it will ultimately be a loss no matter how much spin you or any Clinton supporters put on it. That’s the powerful thing about (or the regrettable thing) about democracy. And if she continues to be behind in delegates, states won, and popular vote, just watch as the superdelegates jump ship on her. If the superdelegates do otherwise, just watch as “major” voting groups leave the party. It’s clear from Hillary supporters that you’re uncomfortable that she will, in fact, lose the nomination. But unfortunately, that’s just the way it’s going to turn out. She really only has two options: (1) take the low road, dig up as much “dirt” or pseudo-”dirt” and inject as much fear, uncertainty, and doubt about Obama into the campaign, but still ultimately lose, or (2) take the high road, run the rest of the campaign reasonably graciously, accept defeat honorably, and live to campaign another year. Given the Clinton track record, it appears that option (2) is probably out. But the goal of the Democratic party should be to win the White House at this point, not to divide the Democratic party. And, unfortunately for Clinton, she pretty much has no shot.

malthusian/others: I don’t believe that Clinton has lost, and if you’re dem, you better hope not. Just wait until Raila Odinga hits center stage: a guy trying for the 2nd time to overthrow the govt of Kenya who claims to be Obama’s cousin? That Obama actually was present, and shared the stage with McPeak for these comments is a truly sad moment for the democratic party. He sure can’t pretend he was busy working in the Senate and didn’t know the comments were making news the way he claimed he was on the day the Wright story filled the airwaves. Obama is changing Democratic politics; he’s campaigning like a Republican.

Terry-
First of all, Hillary lied to the people in Ohio about her support for NAFTA, they will not be fooled twice, so she might not take Ohio when the swiftboat ads come out attacking her on that. Second of all, democrats were split on Obama and Hillary in Texas, that’s why she won the primary and he won the Caucus, but what you ought to be concerned about is that during the primary 100,000 voters were republicans that voted for Hillary…the margin she won the Texas primary by. Had they not voted at all, Obama would have won it easily. Sounds to me like Hillary is DOA in the general, if she’s shallow enough to steal it from Obama.

Posted by: jim | March 22, 2008, 6:51 pm 6:51 pm

I am really beginning to solidify my original thought that Senator Barack Obama is intelligent, well-spoken, but lacks a tough back-bone. First of all, he purports to be running a “clean” campaign, yet time and time again, resorts to passive-aggressive attacks on Senator Hillary Clinton. Second, he cant even “attack” on his own. He has to call up a retired General on stage to do his dirty work . Third, to ALLOW McPeak to compare President Bill Clinton to Joseph McCarthy is beyond the pale. Plain and simple. Senator Barack Obama is a total phoney baloney.

It’s just so shameful for some to speak so disrespectfully about him.
America should draw from his experience, consult him on matters to help us get back on our feet… not throw stones!!! Stone throwing happens in Iran! That’s not a Christian behaviour. It is awful convenient to say he”s been a consistant church goer but he”s been “absent” when this madman of a preacher made his anti American remarks from the pulpit????? Seems awfully suspicious. Forget the remarks on race – I”m talking about remarks against AMERICA which includes everyone. Wake up before it”s too late. It”s not too late to make sure he doesn”t get the Democratic nomination.
AND – What are they ever going to do about Florida & Michigan???? Mr. Dean needs his *ss ran off. He should have prepared for a worse case scenario. Something definitely needs to be done to include all the states.
Obama also said for the first time that his private real estate transactions with Rezko were not simply mistakes of judgment because Rezko was under grand jury investigation at the time of their 2005 and 2006 dealings. In addition, he said, “The mistake was he had been a contributor and somebody involved in politics.”
…..
The most vexing issue hits Obama right at home. The Obamas and the Rezkos bought adjacent South Side properties from the same seller on the same day in June 2005. They subsequently engaged in a series of private transactions to improve and re-divide their parcels, giving the Obamas a bigger yard and a buffer for their $1.65 million Georgian revival home.
Over the last year, Obama has been reluctant to discuss his dealings with Rezko. His efforts to deflect questions seemed successful until January, when Sen. Hillary Clinton effectively introduced Rezko to a national audience by invoking his name at a caustic Democratic debate in South Carolina.
Obama is lying big time about the man he still worships.
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama”s pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago”s south side, has a long history of “inflammatory rhetoric,” God *** America, ,” he said in a 2003 sermon. Here is his pastor of 20 years preaching anti-American, racial hatred, anti-seminitc, revenge-seeking language. No wonder Michelle Obama felt so comfortable saying she finally has a reason to be proud of her country! Bet she hangs on every word her Pastor says! Obama has been going to this church for 20 years, listening to this subversive, anti-American *** and continues to go to the church and call this man his spiritual advisor. How can someone be President of the United States when for the past twenty years he has been going to an “I Hate America” lecture every Sunday. Just think of how “God *** America” will be played over and over and over again in Republican ads. To insult our country and to *** our country, while this man enjoys the very blanket of freedom that I (being military) provide, is absolutely unforgivable. I would NEVER vote for Obama. Not even for the president of the PTA. I HOPE THE SUPERDELEGATES OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY TAKE A GOOD HARD LOOK AT THIS BEFORE THEY MAKE THE DECISION TO GIVE THE NOMINATION TO SOMEONE WHO SEEMS TO BE LACKING IN GOOD JUDGEMENT WHERE HE RECEIVES HIS SPIRTUAL GUIDANCE.
GIVE ME A BREAK. IF YOU BELIEVE THAT HE DIDN”T KNOW WAKE UP, HES DOING IT AGAIN, SWEET TAKING HIM OUT OF IT. WHY DID REV. WRIGHT STEP DOWN, OBAMA BOOK LOOKS UP TO HIM AND HE CALLS HIM UNCLE!!!!!!!!!!
IF YOU GO TO A CHURCH FOR 20 YEARS AND DO NOT KNOW WHATS GOING ON. THIS MEANS OBAMA WOULD BE A POOR PRESIDENT DUE TO NOT KNOWING WHAT HIS REV. WRIGHT SAYS YA YA RIGHT AND IM THE POPE.
REMEMBER THEY SELL THE DVD TO ALL AND THIS WAS IN 2003!!!!!
OBAMA SHOULD DROP OUT BECAUSE OF POOR JUDGEMENT IN REV. WRIGHT AND ANTONIN “TONY” REZKO.
TO MANY THINGS ARE COMING UP. REMEMBER OBAMA WILL NOT WEAR A PIN WITH A FLAG, NOT SING GOD BLESS AMERICA AND WILL NOT PLEDGE TO THE FLAG. EVERYTHING THAT REV. WRIGHT SAID MATCHES OBAMA ACTIONS. THEN HIS WIFE SAYING NOW SHES PROUD TO BE AMERICAN. IT ALL FITS. IF YOU BELIEVE OBAMA THEN HE CAN SELL YOU A WET PAPER BAG FOR 1 MILLION DOLLARS.
WAKE UP AMERICA YOU NEED TO SEE IT, HE IS SELLING YOU DOWN THE ROAD LATER.

Obama espouses no galvanizing political idea. He is unable to say what he means by “change” or “hope” or “the future.” And he has failed to say how he would actually be a “unifier.” By the evidence of his slight political record (130 “present” votes in the Illinois state legislature, little achievement in the U.S. Senate) Barack Obama stacks up as something of a mediocrity
Nothing could be more dangerous to Mr. Obama’s political aspirations than the revelation that he, the son of a white woman, sat Sunday after Sunday — for 20 years — in an Afrocentric, black nationalist church in which his own mother, not to mention other whites, could never feel comfortable. His pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is a challenger who goes far past Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in his anti-American outrage (“God damn America”).And what portent of presidential judgment is it to have exposed his two daughters for their entire lives to what is, at the very least, a subtext of anti-white vitriol?Tthe floodlight of a presidential campaign has trained on this usually hidden corner of contemporary black life. Jeremiah Wright, splashed across America’s television screens, has shown us that there is no real difference between rhetorical hatred and real hatred. His public persona thrives on a manipulation of whites , and his private sense of racial identity demands both self-betrayal and duplicity. His is the story of a man who flew so high, yet neglected to become himself. He can NEVER be the President of the Greatest Nation on earth.
Once everyone’s counted, including mi and fl, HILLARY WILL BE WINNING THE POPULAR VOTE.

OBAMA shame on you. Bill Clinton was president of this country that too twice and during his time the country flourished. He is no Joseph McCarthy.
I felt Wright’s preaching similar to that of Osama-bin-Laden. I wish someone in McCain’s camp could compare Obama’s pastor to that of Osama.

Where were the outrageous parts of Clinton’s remarks? I’m sick to death of people feigning shock and outrage over innocuous comments. We can’t go 24 hours without someone accusing someone else of racism or demanding an apology. I’m sick of people political grandstanding and trying to make mountains for the press out of nonexistent molehills. Grow the F up already! Get to the issues! And if you’re a journalist, try doing some actual bloody journalism for a change instead of imitating the tabloids.

Obama is really pulling America down into the gutter. Of course it is right for Bill Clinton to praise those who love their country. Perhaps Obama doesn’t like to hear that because he, his wife and his pastor prefer not to be proud of America. Had he have gone to live in Kenya with his dad he wouldn’t have had anywhere near the opportunities that America has given him. And is he grateful, no. Good for Bill for standing up for America.

For all those who say that Obama will win the nomination, be prepared to lose the White House. Americans will never stand for having to see this man
1. who continues to worship in a church that spews against the USA as their president.
2. who so willingly sold his grandmother’s reputation so he could justify Wright.
3. who thinks that we have a black america and a non-negotiable contract with America.
4. who does not believe in the American Flag.
5. who sat year after year listening and nodding to all the hate filled sermons against America and did not say a single word in defence of our great nation.
Obama does not behave like an American. He would rather be an African first. Majority of the Americans will never allow this man to be POTUS.

Never once did Clinton mention any names. Guilty conscience makes people think others say things that they are thinking. This logic comes from a typical white woman.

Posted by: ikkeye | March 22, 2008, 7:13 pm 7:13 pm

Are you Obama supporters insane? The notion that a man who willingly participates in a church that SELLS American hatred (cloaked in the gospel) will ever, I repeat ever, be the president of the most fabulous country on the planet is absurd. See the man for who he is. He started out trying to find out who he is, decided to be a black activist, chose a church to get credibility in the black community, then decided to run for president. Well, NO thank you Mr. Obama. We don’t need your kind.

I think Bill Clinton’s remarks are the ones that are shameful, questioning Obama’s patriotism. I’d expect that from the Republicans, but not from a Democrat who himself had it done to him.
I have seen a side of the Clintons I never saw before: the Republican “win at any cost” mentality and it is handing the election to John McCain.

Posted by: JL | March 22, 2008, 7:19 pm 7:19 pm

If the worst dirt republicans can dig up on Obama after all this time is something his Pastor said when he wasn’t even present, then they really are grasping at straws and don’t have anything substantial on him. It should be easy for him to defeat McSame who guarantees 100 years in Iraq, continued skyrocketing gas and healthcare prices, the continued destruction of the U.S. economy and dollar and middle class and the elimination of Social Security. I’m voting for the Democratic nominee come hell or high water.

Take some time to get over it. Eventually, you will realize you have been hoodwinked by a man whose only desire is to be president. You have been bamboozled, and you thought you were smarter than that. I know how you are feeling. I was there once. And don’t even try to tell me I am not speaking the truth to you. All of you have to remember, Bill Clinton is a “IMPEACHED PRESIDENT” he was not and is not fit for office and was even disbarred because he doesn’t know the difference between truth and lies. Why anybody would care what that piece of work had to say is beyond me!Since everything that comes out of his mouth is lies, one must really listen to even what he is saying about his own wife!
We need to restore “HONOR” and “INTEGRITY” to the Whitehouse…..neither a Bush nor a Clinton qualifies!!

Upon graduating from Wellesley, Hillary made a commencement speech that moved her audience. She went immediately to Yale Law School. Following Yale, and a year in Washington, Rodham flunked the DC bar exam twice which has a 60% pass rate. She moved to Arkansas and passed their bar exam which has an 80% pass rate, and married Bill Clinton. She taught at the University of Arkansas and joined the Rose law firm which is a corporate law firm. Clinton established a legal aid clinic at the university. She taught law for two years. As first lady of Arkansas, and of the U.S., Clinton served on many boards including Wal-mart. She chaired only one: the Task Force on National Health Care Reform, which failed, accomplishing only political traction for Republicans and a setback for her husband. She fended off prosecution involving the White House Travel Office and her investments with Whitewater. A year after Clinton became a Senator, she secured $20 billion for New York City in the wake of 9/11. Among other funding measures she directed toward her state, she prevented the closing of a military base there. Although she is considered to be one of the most influential Democrats in the Senate, most of her sponsored legislation has been symbolic — naming two post offices, two courthouses, honoring and congratulating sports teams and historic figures from New York. And in 6 years on Wal-mart board, she sat mute while the company fought against unions and the advancement of women. She has a reputation of being the queen of earmarks and recently secured a 1.5 million dollar earmark awarded to a Harlem minister who endorsed her candidacy for President. She also has accepted more corporate donations than any of the Republican candidates. NOT AN EXAMPLE OF A GOOD LEADER.

It was Bill Clinton that gave China Most Favored Nation trade status. He did that in spite of their human rights record and when he did that he said that our insistance of human rights advancements was getting in the way of commercial interests. Furthermore, it was Bill Clinton who signed waivers allowing High Technology transfers to Chinca including top secret IC chips used in nuclear warfare. In other words, Bill Clinton sold us down the toilet. And while Hillary was screaming at Bush over the Dubai Ports deal, her husband was being paid to get the deal done, and he was being paid to help Dubai interests purchase two defense contractors. The Clintons would sell us to the highest bidder if it put money in their pocket.

Obama has more experience in a legislature than Hillary. And Hillary had no experience as “wife” of the President. Even the NY Times admitted her resume was thin on experience. She grossly exaggerated her experience and credentials.
Hillary’s health care plan will provide medical care for everyone – even the illegal aliens – and if we disagree with it, she promises to garnishee your wages. This is exactly her ill-thought out reasoning that caused the last health insurance debacle.
Yes, Hillary is right. She is not all talk. She did the Rose Law Firm, White Water, Travel Gate, Vincent Foster, …etc. Oh, yes she can – she wasted millions of dollars of tax payers’ money when she tried to pass health care reform when Bill was President. Oh, did I forget to mention that the Congress were occupied by the Dems then? Why failed? – she was too divisive that she couldn’t have Dems to vote for it. Yes, she is not all talks – even as the Clintons were leaving the White House she took funiture from it so that she had to reimburse the cost to avoid a national disgrace.

He stuck it in our face when he lied about having sex with Monica. 2). He stuck it in our face when he lied to the voters that Sen. Obama’s Campaign was a fantasy. 3). He stuck it in our face in South Carolina where he lied about “race baiting”. 4). He stuck it in our face in Mississippi when he “insulted our intelligence” by lying and misleading us about a Clinton/Obama Ticket. 5). Now that same “FINGER” is in our face making the preposterous assertion that Sen. Obama is not Patriotic, he said Quote: “I think it would be a great thing if we had an “election year” where you had two people who “LOVED” this country and were “DEVOTED” to the “INTEREST” of this country and people could actually asks themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other “STUFF” that always seems to intrude itself on “OUR” politics, Unquote….. If Obama wants to win the Presidential election not the primary he needs to stop acting like a victim. As long as he and his campaign continue to whine about what they perceive as injustices he will continue to lose the respect of millions of Americans. This would not have been an issue if you had not drawn attention to it. If you are serious about winning the election borrow the spine of your Grandmother in Kenya because from what I’ve seen of her she has more spine than you will ever have. Also the GOP is loving every catty word that passes between the campaigns. I will personally hold the democratic convention responsible if the election is lost to the GOP and our country continues under the same pathetic policies we have now. This is not about who gets to be the rock star this about the issues of our county. I used to think the media was pro Obama but the truth is it is pro GOP. This is what I want to see on the ballot. First choice Clinton/Obama. Second choice Obama/ Clinton. Divided we fall.

Hey Dave, most of Obama’s experience has been on the campaign trail. Sure he has held office longer, but actually “in” office …. nope. The man is a professional campaigner who doesn’t even show up for the committee meetings that would prove the experience/judgement he professes. He’s counting on people who don’t do the research. Are you one of those?

The democratic race is polorizing the electorate to the point where the division will cause the democrats to lose in nov. The rehtoric coming from constituates on both sides is getting more ugly as time passes, young vs. older, black vs. white and male vs. female. Observing all posts, the younger voter is polorizing the electorate the most and this is not the unity I was expecting in this election. Now racial inuendos are appearing in the posts and this will only further divide the party, as well as cause race issues to escalate. I am fast becoming disenfranchised with my own party for the first time in all my years of voting and so are a lot of others. I don’t think people realize on both sides how fractured the party is becoming and this will cause some to not even vote in the general election or vote the other side. If this race comes down to the super delegates determining the winner, we will surely lose the election. I for one, have already went down to the department of motor vehicles and have already changed my affiliation from Democrat to Independent and I urge all the Obama Democrats to do the same. Most of these “Super Delegates” (which Bill is worth 12 just by himself!) are enter-twined with The Clinton crime family. They are either paying back favors or they like politics the way they are and are speaking with their own greed instead of the will of the people the are “suppose to” represent. If we all unite under the independent party we not only can get rid of Hillary once and for all but we can also get rid of all these “Super delegates” that sold us out!

Senator Clinton’s supporters do not support the current division in the Democratic party. We would like to see a level playing field. We are appalled that despite Senator Obama’s pledge to adhere to the decision of the Democratic party when it came to the voters in Michigan, he allowed the party’s plan to expire without signing it. A candidate who believes that he or she has the support of the Democratic voters cannot run in fear from the people’s votes and expect to prevail in the general election. Senator Obama has been given every benefit of the doubt and ample opportunity to talk to us.

Clever is an adjective you have to use for the Clintons. They have managed you to donate your money while they loaned their money to her campaign. If you are a Hillary supporter, look at the following facts and think about it. “The 35 years of experience” donot mean a squat! – The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance – Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates* – Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation – Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify – Most number of witnesses to die suddenly – First president sued for sexual harassment. – First president accused of rape. – First first lady to come under criminal investigation- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case- First president to establish a legal defense fund.- First president to be held in contempt of court- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions – Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad- First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court

To those of you who continue to criticize Barrack Obama for calling himself the only agent of change in this election, I have one thing to say to you: JUST TRUST HIM. Keep in mind that there are plenty of things that he can’t speak about openly, until he IS elected, because he is still under the influence of the entrenched and corrupt powers that be. And if he does state clearly what he will do there are plenty of very powerful people who will make sure that he never gets there because they will have too much to lose. Let’s take a look at one thing for instance, one injustice that could derail his candidacy, and that is the issue of these so-called “super delegates”. What if Mr Obama was to come out against it as being unjust, anti-democratic and should be abolished because it is corrupt and give the voting power of over 10,000 regular voters into the hands of nearly 800 party bosses known as the DNC (Democratic National Committee). Do you thinkit’s fair for the Clintons to have so much say in deciding who the next president would be? Bill Clinton alone has placed hundreds of people in this select group, each and everyone of them will have the opportunity to return the favor should either of the two candidates fail to win 2025 delegates. If only 200 hundreds decide to pay him back in kind that’s 200,000 votes for Hillary. Do you think it’s fair? How many people do you think Obama has placed in the DNC? How many DNC members would want Obama in the office if he was to openly say that this is an item in his change agenda? How many of those party bosses would still want him in office if he publicly declared that as president he would level the playing field and allow each american to have ONE MAN ONE VOTE? Do you think that it’s wise for any candidate running for office to declare him/herself openly on this issue? My point is: we need to trust him, and allow him that he would do what he said he would. Why is Hillary refusing to release her income tax record? I think it’s only fair for a candidate running for the highest office in the land to release their tax record and show the people that they have nothing to hide. Obama’s total networth is $1.3 million. Hillary is supposedly worth over 40 million. Why can’t she show to the american people her finances. If she refuses to do so when she is not president and cannot claim executive privileges, what would she do when she can? Can you count how many times Bill Clinton had claimed executive privilege? Just think about it..

The young voters are idealist and Obama, as they think would be the least of evil. Obama is already showing the colors of what politician he is .. every day.. young voters are waking up to this reality. Obma is learning and was learning back in Chicago politics on how to gain votes. He is still holding the Blacks by not disowning his pastor and wise enough to attrack young naive voters. Obama is riosking enough to beome middle and without stand. He will suffer the sonsequences after the result of the primary or in general election. He should start first being a real American rather than a bogus American.

The Clintons are at it again, using every opportunity to cast doubt. Bill is an excellent speaker and he knows exactly what he says and how it will be taken. Obama you want to use dirty politics and use lies to get you to the top that’s fine. So you send your robots to speak for you. Is that how you plan on running this country. I have had enough of you Obama and your throng of idiots. You are dividing this country like i’ve never seen before. Stop using the platform of hope and change, when you and all of your advisors are using anything and everything to try to deceive the people. The longer you keep deceiving the people the worst it will get. QUIT NOW OBAMA!

Posted by: Persio | March 22, 2008, 8:32 pm 8:32 pm

Look at this: Kennedy, Kerry, Daschle, Brazille, Richardson, Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Chris Matthews, Keith Obermann, Cafferty etc. are all endorsing Barack Obama, who is a man who is friends and associates with Louis Farrakan, Rev. Wright, Black Panthers, Tony Rezko. They are also endorsing Obama, a man who they know refuses to wear a U.S. flag lapel pin, would not put his hand over his heart during the pledge of allegiance to our flag, whose wife says she has never been proud of our country until now. How stupid they are. The Republicans are going to make mince meat out of Obama in the general election with all the skeletons that are yet to emerge.

I have never seen yard signs go down so fast! I’m not sure if it was after the Wright story or after he said typical white people but the yard signs that were up for Obama in my neighborhood quickly came down (and are nowhere to be seen). Ouch!!!!

Posted by: Jerry | March 22, 2008, 8:33 pm 8:33 pm

Obama is a fake. Look at what he really does. He divides this country. He supports hatred from his church. He throws his own white grandmother under the bus and saves his best friend who hates America. Obama is going to bring on racial wars in America. Obama is not the correct black man for President. He has terrible judgement and forments this racial strife. He has personally insulted all white people by saying his white grandmother is a racist just like all the other white people. He constantly attacks Bill Clinton who is a revered former President. Bill Clinton said good things and he twists the words into the opposite and attacks. I will not vote for Obama. Hillary and Bill gave us prosperity and good times. I support Hillary. She is a wonderful woman. Oops I forgot about discrimination against women. Obama discriminates against his own grandmother and refuses to consider Hillary as VP, He dismisses her with a laugh. He is so incredibly prejudiced against women. He will never unite this country. He is causing a racial war in this country and he is not President. It will be worse. Whatever you say will be attacked as racial by Obama. Paranoid. Look out the end is coming. He will never get elected. I will remain a democrat and vote for McCain. Go Hillary.

One of the funniest things I have seen so far is the picture of Bill Clinton and Rev. Wright. The Obama camp admitted they distributed it but the press barely covered it. Remember when Obama thought the Clinton camp distributed the photo of him dressed like a muslim? The press almost hung her on the cross. Hmmm.

Posted by: jim | March 22, 2008, 8:37 pm 8:37 pm

I’m still trying to figure out what Obama stands for. So far all I have come up with is “hate”. That would make a great bumper sticker, “I Hate Obama”.

Flyfisher, would you be talking about the voters in Texas and Ohio?

Posted by: Jerry | March 22, 2008, 8:44 pm 8:44 pm

More and more clearly I think,
Wright reflects who Obama is!
Because Obama wants to use Wright to say whatever Obama wants to say.
He pretends to denounce Wright. He will keep close with Wright in his whole life.
Obama is raised by white parents, grand parents, but he betrayed white. Now, after his speech, black people felt they were insulted by Obama. Because not every black people is anti-America, Wright is just Wright, just represents himself, but Obama seems to say the Wright generation black all anti-America. So, Black people will keep distance from him more and more. Of course white people will keep distance from him too.

Flyfisher, did you just say NO ONE is discussing why Hillary or Mccain are good choices? Here’s one that works for both: They are not Obama.

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 8:45 pm 8:45 pm

There are only two options here.
Bill Clinton made these remarks open to misinterpretation on purpose or he made them open to misinterpretation by accident.
If you think he did it by accident then you are saying he has lost any skills he ever had as an orator.
And if he did it on purpose, and then denied it, then he lied.

Posted by: Frank McCandless | March 22, 2008, 8:46 pm 8:46 pm

Frank, a third option might be that he spoke the truth and the words don’t need interpretation. Hard for you to believe, huh?

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 8:50 pm 8:50 pm

It seems many Americans like to talk about everything here except the candidates proposed administrative policies. It’s pathetic really. Grow up.

“Here’s one that works for both: They are not Obama.”
That’s exactly the point he’s making. That’s the ONLY thing you’re discussing, the only recommendation you have.
This is a one-man election.

Posted by: Frank McCandless | March 22, 2008, 8:51 pm 8:51 pm

ASP, just what are the candidates proposed administrative policies? And last time I checked, the title of the piece was something about a war of words. Did I miss something?

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 8:52 pm 8:52 pm

“Frank, a third option might be that he spoke the truth and the words don’t need interpretation.”
Not according to the man himself. According to him, that’s not what he meant.
Maybe it was a senior moment, like we’re going to be seeing a lot of from McCain.
Give the man a cigar. “Anointed” or otherwise.

Posted by: Frank McCandless | March 22, 2008, 8:54 pm 8:54 pm

Frank, I thought his point was people are talking about Obama’s losing support but he isn’t and that noone can give reasons for voting for Hillary or McCain. I pointed out that there is a big reason to vote for either one, and that is becasue they are not Obama. What part of that did you have a hard time with?

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 8:58 pm 8:58 pm

The naivety of the propaganda you people spout is disgraceful.

Posted by: Out of the cold | March 22, 2008, 8:58 pm 8:58 pm

Frank your thought processes expressed in this form are interesting to say the least. You have jumped from one topic to McCain having a senior moment to a cigar. Is there a schizophrenic candidate running that you support?

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 9:02 pm 9:02 pm

“I suggest a third option–it could have been a Freudian slip.”
You think this is a guy who makes slips?
Since his wife would have been relying on him so much if she’d got anywhere, that’s scary. We all know what Freudian stuff does to Bill Clinton’s big brain, and his little one.

Kitty, That’s just it, a war of words about irrelevant innuendo instead of what’s important. And here we see a continued plethora of the same garbage spewed ad nauseam instead of articulate dialog about the issues and policies. To quote Winston Churchill, “The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.” I think this forum proves his point.

Posted by: ASP | March 22, 2008, 9:06 pm 9:06 pm

Looking at the sock puppets, the cross dressers, the race changers, the fake “democrats”, posting in this thread, I believe you are addressing that question to the wrong man. And the wrong political party.

ASP, there are so many sites you can go to where people talk about all the stuff they think is not irrelevant. This time, here, though, the title is about a war of words. Of all the places to have a complaint about a war of words, this isn’t the best choice.

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 9:10 pm 9:10 pm

Why are we shifting from the remarks of the pastor? We should be talking that as OBAMA spend 20 years there and continues to support his pastor.

You can see why Obama has to make an effective and appealing campaign statement by Bill Clinton as offensive as possible. Obama is no closer to solidifying his name goes on the ballot than Hillary. The image Bill Clinton created is a very appealing one, but Obama can’t produce such a campaign. He doesn’t have enough substance to go against seasoned politicians.

Posted by: RMJ | March 22, 2008, 9:13 pm 9:13 pm

Yes, GS, we should be talking about Obama’s pastor and Obama’s 20 year history with the man he thinks of as family. And speaking of family, how about that “my grnadmother makes me cringe” speech Obama gave?

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 9:14 pm 9:14 pm

My grandmother never made me cringe. She lived to be 100. Her husband owned a successful trucking company, but due to his drinking, they lost everything. My grandmother told him to go sit on the couch and she would take care of everything. She proceeeded to start a catering business in a time when women usually weren’t the bread winners. She was very successful and parlayed her earnings into real estate. Throughout her life, she was a churchgoer who loved the Lord. She was active and healthy and took her first trip trip to China at 85! Up until shortly before her death, she was a go getter. SO, no,my grandmother never made me cringe. AND for GOd’s sake, even if she had, I would have the couth not to tell people in a speech that I knew would be telelvised nationally and throughout the world.

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 9:24 pm 9:24 pm

Bill Clinton has always been precise with his words.
When he said he “did not have sex with that woman”, it meant exactly what he wanted it to mean. The man does not imply by accident.
People say they want Hillary to drop out and support Obama. With friends like Bill, Obama would not need enemies.

This is not right for the press to let Obama get away with surrogates for his campaign, that have, in my opinion, been given talking points to speak on from Obama himself, negatively attacking Clinton so that he (Obama) can keep his hands clean. This is totally BS! When anytime Clinton supporters say anything against Obama it is taken as if Hillary said it herself. If Obama needs others to fight his battles for him, how the hell could he handle the presidency?!

Progressives overwhelmingly support Obama. That’s fine. They can choose who they wish. They are the most ardent against the war. Their worst nightmare is that McCain becomes president and continues the war.
Clinton’s supporters are generally against the war but are more concerned with the economy, healthcare, etc. If Obama wins, Hillary’s supporters do not see McCain as inherently evil like Bush. Their isn’t that much space in this election as there was between Bush/Kerry.
This is very dangerous for the party. It isn’t going to take very much for Hillary’s supporters to vote for McCain. I think Bill Clinton was reminding folks in well, – in his own way.
Hillary actually has a great deal of power. More than anyone else in this party if you think about it. She holds a huge block of Democrats. Way, way, way more than is needed to tip the scale in Nov. If she feels like the party is abandoning her, her lukewarm support will make McCain the next president.
That is the nightmare scenerio that the progressives fear the most. For Hillary, she goes back to the senate with a huge grin on her face.
I support Hillary and I am seriously looking at McCain because the political reality is that the solders have to stay for a while. McCain has paid his dues to his country and his party. That matters alot to me.

If you can consider McCain, you never were a Democrat.

Posted by: Frank McCandless | March 22, 2008, 10:26 pm 10:26 pm

First, let me say that I find Bill Clinton’s speech a good speech. It’s informative, speaks to the issues and is friendly—at least until the end. At the end, the words go out of control, and he directly suggests McCain, the republican, is a better candidate than Obama, the other democrat. I know he wants his spouse to become the nominee, but because he’s prone to losing control, he should pause before making those kinds of controversial statements during a speech. He and Hillary both should pause. It doesn’t look good.
Why did he make the statement? Well, we need only study the effects. Where did the media go after the speech? What became the focus of the campaign? Why is the attention here and not on issues?
The Clintons need to stay out of the Obama campaign, so we the voters can view each candidate on our own. We don’t need the commentary, direct or indirect. We can think for ourselves. We can make judgments on our own. Just give us your position on the issues.
Why bring this up? Once underhanded behavior is brought into the light, it becomes more easily recognized. We voters then stand a better chance of seeing through the behavior and are less likely to be manipulated. The situation is not that big of a deal in itself. It’s a situation in which we should probably conclude, oh, yeah, there goes Bill again out of control. He’s human. But we have the obligation to ask the Clinton campaign to stop these intrusions. They’re annoying and insulting to the voters.

Posted by: ldjnews | March 22, 2008, 10:29 pm 10:29 pm

Dear Mr. Obama, whether it is you or your “monster” “McCarthist” surrogates, you have handed the election to John McCain. Yes, you have caused a split in the democratic party. Hillary is what she is; she hasn’t changed over the past three months or so. But you, you egomaniac, you lying politician just like all the others. You charm us, and behind the scenes you play as dirty as all the rest (if not more so). You lie and you throw up a nice speech. But you only gave it because you had to, and you didn’t address the question of how it is you have stayed with Wright all these years. Or of you did address it, you didn’t address it to satisfy me and millions of others.
Let me tell you something else Mr. Obama, Ms. Ferraro said the obvious. I’m not going to state that she did it for honorable reasons, but it’s not a stretch to state you wouldn’t be in the position that you if you weren’t bi-racial. I suppose you and your supporters would say I am racist now. Well, why would I marry a minority (Asian) then? Why would I bother having gay friends? Do you have any? And by the way, why weren’t you more universal in your speech the other day? America is no longer a black and white place. Don’t you think it would have been more appropriate to talk about human rights, say more about females, perhaps address homophobia in the African-American community? Oh sorry, did I say something else wrong?
I will never vote for you this election Obama. I don’t care what happens – anybody but you unless Hillary is on the ticket. Maybe I am a terribly sore loser, but I was also against the war from the start and now I couldn’t really give a hoot if we are in Iraq for 1,000 years as long as you are not the president of the United States.
P.S. Mr. Obama, will you stop saying you were against the war from the start that like means anything. You weren’t even in the senate at the time! And you have even been quoted as saying you don’t how you would have voted if you had same the info as the senators had! Your votes are no different than Hillary’s since you’ve been in the senate for goodness sakes.
P.S.S. Democratic party, you had better get it together! More than ever I can see we need a third party now. You have snatched defeat from sure victory. If Howard Dean isn’t fired by the end the year I think you are the most spineless organization in the world. I hope the election is close and the Whitehouse is lost because of Florida and/or Michigan!

Posted by: CK Canon | March 22, 2008, 10:31 pm 10:31 pm

Charles,
You raise a good point. If HRC loses the primary, and gives lukewarm support to Obama, or no support at all, he is doomed. There have already been suggestions that the Clintons see McCain as better qualified than Obama, though that might just be political posturing.
As for myself, I entered this primary pulling for McCain in the Republican primary but have remained neutral on Clinton/Obama/Edwards. I really did want to like Obama, good things had been said, but in the end we just get more and more rhetoric with little that matches it. Not really a Clinton fan either, but I’d give her the edge.
And as far as progressives, leanings which I have, after this recent spat of problems for Obama, and the poor manner in which he has handled them (leading me to see him as just one more savvy politician) I’d go the Nader route.

Posted by: Tru Blue | March 22, 2008, 10:35 pm 10:35 pm

Tru Blue,
Valid question was raised. Obama has others do his dirty work for him so that he can preserve his untarnished image. And the media goes along. In the meantime, anything anyone associated with the Clinton campaign (e.g., Ferraro) says the media almost takes it that it’s from HRC’s very own mouth.
There are definite double standards here biased toward Obama. It’s a shame really, because this will ultimately be his downfall in the general election.

“Obama has others do his dirty work”
Obama AND his supporters have been misquoted, deliberately and flagrantly, so often by you people that the concept of “dirty work” takes a whole new meaning from your mouths.
My favourite was the Republican claim that his recent speech stole a passage from Bill Clinton, which it quoted, even though the passage NEVER WAS IN OBAMA’S SPEECH. So much for dirty work.
Obama and his close supporters have so often been careful not to characterise comments as racist., and then you come here and scream “he called us racists”. So much for dirty work.
ABC digs up less than five minutes of soundbites from a thirty year career to tarnish a preacher. So much for dirty work. It tries to taint Obama by association and then you people get annoyed when your McCarthyism is labelled what it is. Yeah. Most of the dirty work I’ve seen has been pretty explicit. Just not from Mr Obama.

FYI, I don’t vote for someone bc they are white, black, female, male, or whatever.
In fact, I have leanings toward Nader, someone who openly criticized Obama for doing nothing to stop predatory lending and other injustices to South Side Chicago, where he was a community organizer.

As for the I was never a Democrat. Yes I was. I’m an independent thinker. I support the candidate that represents my vision or something close to it. I am actually ashamed to be a Democrat now. I can’t believe this party would actually consider disenfranchising any voters after what we went through with Gore no matter who it benefits. That is the holy grail of US politics is that everyone’s vote should count. It’s extremely dangerous to challenge that notion.
JA. I understand your frustration. I feel as though Obama just staged a political “coup” against the Clintons. It makes me kind of sick to see Richardson, Kerry, Daschle, Pelosi, willing to split the party apart. They really should have remained neutral.
I do wish that Obama would have waited, paid his dues, instead of staging his coup against the Clintons. I don’t see how things are better now. The party would have been united months ago if he would have just waited.
McCain strengths are Hillary’s strengths. They are both strong, they have paid their dues. They have served. They know what it takes. They are tough and gritty. They are tested. It is not such a big leap of faith in support of one or the other.

More interesting question: would you drive right now?

Posted by: Frank McCandless | March 22, 2008, 10:51 pm 10:51 pm

“I support the candidate that represents my vision or something close to it.”
Rubbish. Clinton and Obama are closest on almost any issue you care to mention than Clinton and McCain, to the extent that you people often spend your time accusing Obama of lifting her policies. You can’t have things both ways.
I don’t see the bit where Hillary has supporters who believe the destruction of Jerusalem will bring Jesus back

Posted by: Democrat for Life | March 22, 2008, 10:54 pm 10:54 pm

Good Old Dan,
Thanks for the great retort. Obama’s appeal as a non-political politician is gone. What he now needs to stand on are his credentials, his DETAILED vision of the future of this country, and how he plans to achieve this. SPECIFICS. I look forward to hearing them, maybe he can change my mind. But for now, the most honest person I see in this race is nader. The only person who will go after the opponents on ISSUES and DIRECTLY and not mediated by their campaign managers or whatnot.

Posted by: JA | March 22, 2008, 10:54 pm 10:54 pm

What I don’t understand about clinton supporters, is that these people have been and continue to be linked to so many scandals and just because they know how to manipulate things politically does’nt make them any better then the way Bush and the republicans do the same. If it was a score about evil deeds, lets see, Clintons=lost count
Obama=3 and oh, by the way, the reason the Clintons are not pushing the Rezco thing so hard is Rezco also raised hundreds of thousands to them as well…. so I have to choose the one of lesser evils and voting always comes down to that.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 10:56 pm 10:56 pm

lol Frank, I was asking tru blue really. he seems to think I am single and alone. I thought he might chime in.

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 10:58 pm 10:58 pm

Frank and Peace and Love,
I am hispanic. And definitely not a Republican (I see McCain more as an opportunistic Republican, and really an independent).
What amuses me are people like you two, who have no arguments but just ad hominem attacks. Just like the rest of the pols who I have grown weary of. Why can’t we just accept the fact that all of these candidates are opportunistic and move on, discuss issues, credentials, etc.?

Posted by: JA | March 22, 2008, 11:00 pm 11:00 pm

Clinton followers should realize OBAMA is the lesser of 2 evils

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:01 pm 11:01 pm

JA
As I said, people are whoever they want to be on the internet.
What amuses me is people who see personal attack and “ad hominem” as coming from only one side.
The fact is that ABC News and Fox News are not fora where one can indulge in serious political debate. That takes goodwill on both sides, and people using only one identity and sticking with it, as well as exhibiting integrity and a willingness for serious debate.
EVERY comment about Obama here is ad hom. I am frankly amazed you don’t see that

Posted by: Frank McCandless | March 22, 2008, 11:06 pm 11:06 pm

Let’s discuss Obama’s preparedness, or credentials. Oh wait, he has none.
Let’s discuss why Obama would want to take the highest political office in the USA with so little experience?
Let’s discuss someone who openly says he would attack within Pakistan if he had actionable intelligent re terrorists (a political nighmare of an idea).
Let’s be honest, the guy says great things but has achieved very little (to his defense he is very junior – but that’s the point!).

Posted by: JA | March 22, 2008, 11:07 pm 11:07 pm

A “true” Democrat would have waited another 4 years just like Hillary did when Kerry ran. The had the clout to do it but it wasn’t what was best for the party so she waited.
If Obama was in for it for the party and not himself, he would have waited instead of tearing the party apart. He knew coming in that this would likely split the party in half like it has and he has done it.
Tell me who is selfish traitor to the party now.

Posted by: Charles | March 22, 2008, 11:07 pm 11:07 pm

I must say I was quite surprised by Clinton carrying the Hispanic vote since, statisticaly, they get stereo typed the same as black, inprisoned the same, ect… so I must say Obama still has work to do but the truth is, before Obama, I too was a Clinton suporter but given the choice of a cleaner person emerging, had to choose OBAMA, still can’t wash away the big favor pardons the Clintons gave away to the billionair

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:07 pm 11:07 pm

Frank, EVERY? What do you think of the Global Poverty Act?

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 11:08 pm 11:08 pm

Thats the whole point that he should run because no one should have to wait their turn to run for office. Same people=same problems. Bush-clinton-bush and then Clinton again?

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:12 pm 11:12 pm

Randle, people complain that Bill wasn’t tending to the nations business while he was screwing around. Isn’t that an argument for wanting him to be screwing around while she’s the president. He will be too busy to pull any strings.

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 11:13 pm 11:13 pm

Democrat 4 Life, tell me, if Obama and Clinton are so much alike, then why did we need two candidates this election cycle ? To tear up the party ?

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 11:17 pm 11:17 pm

Lets see, Obama gets the nomination but due to a fractured party, might loose the big race.
Clinton gets the nomination but due to a fractured party, def looses the big race.
What people are missing is if we loose the race, BOTH of these same people will be back here in 4 years to run again, but Ms.Clinton will be 4 years older then she is now and I can’t see allotta fight left in her after that. Get it over with and vote for Obama because just like this deligate race, he can out last her!

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:18 pm 11:18 pm

Yes, it’s really sad how this prolonged primary has turned the dems against each other, tukss. About half the democrats would disagree with you on the reasons why, though.

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 11:19 pm 11:19 pm

Well Randle, I don’t want either Hillary or Obama in there, so I suggest you do what I’m doing. Vote McCain 08

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 11:23 pm 11:23 pm

The Clintons did alot for the democratic party, but they also did allot of things by force to the dems as well. A secret servey already done in the house and the senate already showed 84 percent want Obama to get the nod but due to the looks and feel they get from the Clintons as well as some of the funding, they are afraid to come out, which is why they are doing it so slow.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:24 pm 11:24 pm

Nader??? Might as well not vote.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:26 pm 11:26 pm

Peace and Love,
Read my above excerpt re Nader. You seem to be one of those people who know very little about Obama and are just going by what the media feeds you. Pursue these questions that Nader asks. See where it takes you. Don’t let others make up your mind for you.

Posted by: JA | March 22, 2008, 11:27 pm 11:27 pm

TowHappy, how secret can it be if we all know about it now? Ask them again tomorrow and you’ll get a different result.

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 11:27 pm 11:27 pm

TowHappy,
I’m of the same mind. However, he does raise the RIGHT QUESTIONS.

Posted by: JA | March 22, 2008, 11:28 pm 11:28 pm

The funny thing is Nader doesn’t matter at this point. He is calling and begging for interviews and getting maybe 1 a week?

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:29 pm 11:29 pm

TowHappy,
Interesting thing is that Obama, nor you for that matter, have an answer for these very good questions.

Posted by: JA | March 22, 2008, 11:30 pm 11:30 pm

If Obama isn’t helping people with these issues on his home turf AND HE WAS A COMMUNITY OTGANIZER then Mr. Nader is doing a great service to expose this fraud for what it is.

Posted by: Kitty | March 22, 2008, 11:33 pm 11:33 pm

Well first, this poll was taken last week, and second, although Nader is asking the right questions, its from the wronge person. The only airplay Nader is going to get is in the general at the debates and if Nader is so influential, why the hell does he keep getting his campaghns federally funded on our dime?

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:33 pm 11:33 pm

Kitty,
And that is my point. Nader, though not a viable candidate, will at least ask the questions that others are afraid or unwilling to.
All this talk non-sense about who’s playing the race card is just a distraction. There are real issues out there that are not being asked. A man with no credentials is portraying himself as a leader, and yet he apparently didn’t do quite enough when he was in such a position.

Posted by: JA | March 22, 2008, 11:36 pm 11:36 pm

Well Ja, if you google obama in allot of his local Chicago papers, you will see great things that he HAS DONE for his community and JA you seem to be very intelligent and informed so you should also be smart enough to know that NADER must ask some attention grabbing questions because he gets none and 2, the media did there homework and there isn’t much to Naders question.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:37 pm 11:37 pm

TowHappy,
I am intelligent enough to know that the media is biased in favor of Obama, and that they are not going to explore these issues (with the exception of a certain conservative-leaning network).
Why is it that this matter of Obama’s pastor is just coming out now, when in fact articles were written about this very topic a year ago? Not to say that Obama should be blamed for what his pastor says, but it does raise questions that need answering.
Nader’s questions are not meant to just grab attention, they are very real. Why the reluctance to answer them?

Posted by: JA | March 22, 2008, 11:40 pm 11:40 pm

Peace and Love,
I agree the media is full of distortion, unfortunately it is distortion in favor of Obama, not against him.
To just trust what a politician says of himself is quite naive.
And what are “JW films”?

Posted by: JA | March 22, 2008, 11:43 pm 11:43 pm

I just did by telling you to GOOGLE THE CHACAGO TRIBUNE as well as the other local papers there and you will see that answers are there for you to read yourself which is WHY the media doesnt pose the questions themselves. There is no boubt he did allot in his hometown. Oh, and by the way, there is only so much power you have as a community orginizer, trying to change housing laws and bad landlords is like being a security gaurd with a flashlight and no radio to stop an armed burgler with a gun.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:49 pm 11:49 pm

I think if they barred NADER from running on the taxpayers dime, we wouldnt see him at all, which by the way was a republican law passed just for that reason. Notice he only attacks the democratic side?

Posted by: JA | March 22, 2008, 11:53 pm 11:53 pm

2009: Your comment about teenage supporters having no knowledge of history was spot-on. They confuse electing the chief executive of the world’s most powerful political and economic entity with picking a favorite on American Idol. Change can be bad, too. Remember when America rejected Bob Dole for Bill Clinton because Bob was old (experienced)? Is anyone sorry now? Obama would be outstanding as a TV personality with Oprah. But the President of the United States? I’m fine with a bi-racial leader, just not that one.

Posted by: Terry | March 22, 2008, 11:53 pm 11:53 pm

Hillary is a senator. WHAT HAS SHE DONE TO PREVENT THE INJUSTICES AGAINST (to quote Nader): “payday loans, predatory lending, rent-to-own rackets, landlord abuses, lead contamination, asbestos.”

Posted by: Randle Bate | March 22, 2008, 11:55 pm 11:55 pm

JA…..What the hell do you think he can do by himself in the senate? Mayor or Gov maybe, but we are talking about bills that need a bunch of approvals as well as the presidents stamp. WHICH HAS BEEN A REPUBLICAN HOUSE FOR most of his time there

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:55 pm 11:55 pm

Obama has cosponsered more bills with the republicans to get things done. Hillery, I think 2 to date

Posted by: TowHappy | March 22, 2008, 11:58 pm 11:58 pm

Randle,
Hilary probably did nothing. I’m not a HRC diehard supporter, you have me confused with someone else.
My point is solely that you people are very uninformed about Obama. He is not the man you so desperately want to believe he is.
I know at this moment in our history we desperately want someone authentically just, a real leader, HONEST, ambitious only for our country and not for him or herself….but Obama is NOT that person.

Posted by: JA | March 23, 2008, 12:00 am 12:00 am

The exact number is 264,000 for his wife and he didn’t ABANDON his people JA, you seem short sighted on the fact that through his senate channels, he only do so much coming from a democrat in a REPUBLICAN HOUSE AND PRESIDENCY but he did manage healthcare for 150,00 kids in his state….um…..bout Hillery? While we are at it, Whats Naders past and what has he done as well JA?

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:02 am 12:02 am

I never said Obama was the next coming, please don’t confuse that, if you scroll up, I Said he is the LESSER of the 2 evils JA

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:05 am 12:05 am

I was a Clinton supporter but choose the lesser of 2 evils,( OBAMA) but to support NADER is like no vote at all and statistically, thats a fact!

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:07 am 12:07 am

“Among the pork-barrel spending requests Barack Obama has made since arriving in the U.S. Senate is $1 million for the hospital where his wife worked at the time and $8 million for weapons technology made by a big defense contractor with close ties to a major fundraiser.”
“In among them was a request for $1 million in federal funding in 2006 for a new pavilion at the University of Chicago Hospitals, where his wife, Michelle Obama, was a vice president at the time. The request was not ultimately included when Congress passed spending legislation that year, according to the Obama campaign.
That same year, Obama requested $8 million in funding for “High Explosive Air Burst Technology” made by General Dynamics, a military contractor with close ties to a major fundraiser.”

Posted by: JA | March 23, 2008, 12:08 am 12:08 am

I must say that if this is true, you live in the south side of Chicago, then you should have naders questions answered, you seem to stick to the negitives of OBAMA, but I have also read the positives about the man in CHICAGO as well.
If you fact checked the clintons, you would see he has ACTUALLY DONE MORE locally then her, and LINED HIS POCKETS A HELLUVA lot less, IE: The lesser of 2 evils.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:12 am 12:12 am

TowHappy,
I missed that post where you said lesser of two evils. I can see how would one would argue that Obama is a lesser evil than Clinton; however, consider what the result was of voting into office someone with little experience (Bush).

Posted by: JA | March 23, 2008, 12:13 am 12:13 am

TwoHappy,
Why take my word for it?:
Obama said Nader “is a singular figure in American politics and has done as much as just about anyone for consumers.”

Posted by: JA | March 23, 2008, 12:17 am 12:17 am

Clintons porkbarrel request speak volumes so please don’t. Yes he did what the average politicians do when it comes to looking out for who they know but there is not enuf space to put what the clintons are and continue to be connected to and if I grasp this conversation in the right text, its ok for the Clintons to do shady deals in the 100 million range because we at least know how they operate?

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:17 am 12:17 am

It is beyond weird that Obama supporters behave like they are so enlightened and then insult, name call and tell Hillary supporters to get loss, take care of their kids instead of posting etc. WEIRD….I guess everyone who “believes” in Obama is filled with double standards, no wonder he makes sense to them.
I prefer having an intelligent leader for EVERYONE; Hillary Clinton.

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 12:17 am 12:17 am

TowHappy,
My point is not to portray Clinton as a saint, surely she is NOT. And as I have said, I am not a HRC diehard fan.
But the question raises itself: Given that Obama’s appeal is that he is not a politician (in the pejorative sense), and given that he seems to commit the sins of all other politicians, why would I vote for him over HRC given they have virtually the same proposals?
If Obama loses the “good guy” appeal, what’s left really but a young politician with little experience and no track record?

Posted by: JA | March 23, 2008, 12:20 am 12:20 am

Well picture this Ja….Clinton was inexperienced before he came in but turned out to run the country pretty decent and I don’t think we can get any worse then we are now unless we elect republican.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:20 am 12:20 am

If Obama loses the “good guy” appeal, what’s left really but a young politician with little experience and no track record?

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:23 am 12:23 am

TowHappy,
Bill Clinton had FAR more experience than Obama when he ran. Not to say that he was very experienced, especially not in comparison to Bush Sr, but Obama is very very unseasoned.

Posted by: JA | March 23, 2008, 12:23 am 12:23 am

Bill was a Governor. Ugh…that is quite a bit different than a first term Senator or State Senator.

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 12:23 am 12:23 am

“I was, in terms of experience, was closer to Senator Obama, I suppose, in 1988 when I came within a day of announcing,” Mr. Clinton said in a interview on “Political Capital with Al Hunt” that was scheduled to be broadcast tonight on Bloomberg television and again this weekend.
Mr. Clinton did not run that year, he added, because “I really didn’t think I knew enough, and had served enough and done enough to run.”
The former president quickly noted that he did not mean Mr. Obama should not be pursuing the nomination. But he said that compared to Mr. Obama, who went from the Illinois Legislature to the United States Senate in 2005, Mr. Clinton had far more experience when he finally did run in 1992, as governor of Arkansas for nearly 12 years and as a leader of national policy initiatives.”

Posted by: JA | March 23, 2008, 12:25 am 12:25 am

The whole Peter Paul, political armtwisting, get it done within her own party by force thing just turned me off the Clintons. I must say he has at least shown he is not the same in that aspect is all um sayin Ja, because force will only get stalemate, which in our politics gets nothing done.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:26 am 12:26 am

Thank you TowHappy, I don’t hate anyone really myself. I do however find it hard to believe that you were a Clinton supporter, are not that crazy about O, the lesser of two evils and yet you are compelled to go on this site to post in his defense. Hmmmm?

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 12:28 am 12:28 am

TowHappy,
Funny, but I recall Obama on numerous occasions warning superdelegates to vote the way of the delegates.
My take is that the popular vote should take the cake, whoever wins that. But one must also accept that if the race is very tight, the superdelegates should be able to DECIDE ON THEIR OWN and not be THREATENED.

Posted by: JA | March 23, 2008, 12:28 am 12:28 am

First irma, to tell you the truth, I never liked Hillery, but I LOVE BILL and that is why she was getting my vote, but now that even Bill is turning me off, nowhere else to go besides OBAMA and Ja, I understand the politics on his side as well but don’t see him phrasing “vote with your districts” as a threat, just a way to secure his hard work from being twisted away from him AND to throw more attention on it since WE ALL KNOW the Clintons are a force that could make it happen. It was a statement made for protection.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:34 am 12:34 am

The more people that PAY ATTENTION, the harder it is for the CLINTONS to do buisness as usual through back door force. He made the politicians more afraid of their constituants then the Clintons and I must say, it worked

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:37 am 12:37 am

TowHappy,
Fair enough. I think we are probably in agreement on most points, only I haven’t yet decided who is the lesser of the two evils (since there are many possible evils at play here).
Nice chatting with you though. I’m off to sleep.

Posted by: JA | March 23, 2008, 12:39 am 12:39 am

Randle Bate; first, I would rather have had Hillary as President over Bill any day. She is a lot more intelligent although as we know, Bill is very skilled with people. Secondly, the whole Kosovo thing is equivalent to a fishing story for all I care. Her mistakes do not compare to Obama’s. I have a real fear of him being the nominee because those crossovers will not vote for him in the general and we know it. After this racial stuff, I fear he has instigated a great white vote that will NEVER be in his favor.

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 12:42 am 12:42 am

Bottom line is this people, they made us fall for OBAMA before truly vetting him as they are now, and the CLINTONS underestimated him as a canidate and truth be told, had they saw him as the threat he is now, they would have killed him whith the stuff they are doing now, BUT, alot are shaking their heads because there is no way out of nominating him without killing the party.
Lemme pose this question to all, even if Barrak goes into the convention with say 5 more deligates then the Clintons, in this society, DO YOU ACTUALLY THINK THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE IT FROM A BLACK GUY? Risk marches, loosing the black vote, maybe even riots from people who wouldn’t understand? There honestly would be no explanation they could give no matter how bad Clinton wants it. At this stage in the race, giving it to Ms. Clinton would be giving McCAIN THE KEYS. Nominate him, let him loose, then run again in 4 years.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:46 am 12:46 am

TowHappy why do men who like Bill not like Hillary? The politics are the same because Bill is involved. So why?

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 12:50 am 12:50 am

By the way, I am white but not stupid. They could explain an OBAMA nomination allot esier then a Clinton one at this point. You have, AL sharpton, Jackson, and allot of others to name a few that would catipult a clinton nomination like an olympic event. We can nominate her, but she wouldn’t get elected due to the road she took to get the nomination and by the numbers. I live in the real world people, not what I want, just the way it is.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:53 am 12:53 am

I guess I just don’t like her character. She is not like him, not charasmatic. As a person, she just doesnt do it for me. Beleive me, I was strongly behind her for sure but the problem is, this OBAMA guy is alot more chrasmatic and its truly catchy and I believe the support she was getting was allot of people like me who felt, I dont like her, but I love him and OBAMA comes along, they let us get attatched to him, then throw the kitchen sink after he was too far ahead so now um stuck. My thought is they should have threw the whole kitchen at him before the 13 wins so people like me can vote without holding my nose and my head low in the booth!

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 12:59 am 12:59 am

I looked up to Hillary since age 8 when I saw her in a sea of men during the Water Gate hearings. She was the one shuffling papers, writing and really working. I have never forgotten that image. I didn’t know she was Hillary Clinton until 1992. I read her books and I share her philosophy. I do feel sorry for her not being as “skilled” with people as Bill is, but that just means he is a better B.S.’er. Whenever she tries to “act” something out, she’s awful at it. Yet when she speaks what she believes, the person Bill must love comes through. Chelsea obviously looks up to her and Hillary did a fantastic job with her daughter, under circumstances that a lot of people would never be able to cope with. Hillary is obviously highly intelligent. Aside from “harsh” politics, she has causes that she believes in and she holds values that I share. I would be proud to vote for Hillary as a leader.

I am sure Hillery is a decent woman, she just comes across with no real identity and this is why she became one of the most hated when all hill had to do is be herself like in her books, show real feelings and some passion more, but at this point so many in the democratic party dont like her that besides the numbers working against her, having picked up so many democratic enemys within the party, and having no freinds on the republican side, hence, we are left with Oprahs boyfriend but in the end, they will do the same job.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 1:15 am 1:15 am

Hillary has Republicans who like and speak well of her, McCain being one of them. As for Democrats, they’re all making deals right now. The loyal one’s such as Tubbs, Waters and Ferraro and many more are completely behind her.

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 1:20 am 1:20 am

The only way out of this mess is the so-called “Dream Ticket”, although it’s not much of a dream anymore. Wrong or right, many BO supporters hate HRC and won’t vote for her if she is the nominee. Likewise, while HRC don’t hate BO, they won’t vote for him either. Like me, they just won’t vote at all, and some others will vote for McCain.
Sad thing is, I don’t see either of the candidates (or their campaigns) willing to side with the other, so we are now stuck with John McCain as president. Who knows, maybe he’ll do a decent job, or possibly it’ll get worse and they’ll be another go at in 2012. Maybe this will start an independent party or at least get the dems to address this monumental **** up. Whatever happens, I hope we have a different nominating process. Kill the caucuses and end this never-ending nomination process!

READING THIS BARRAGE OF MESSAGES, I AM HAPPY TO SEE THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO VOTE EITHER FOR HILLARY OR OBAMA, AND THEREFORE NEARLY ALL WILL BE HAPPY TO DO IT FOR McCAIN, NOT VOTE AT ALL OR
VOTE FOR NADER (WHICH IS THE SAME AS NO VOTING!)
By the way: a language confusion as McCains is the same or less bad as OBAMAS “President of Canada” (he will have problems with the Queen!). Of course either means nothing !

So the African American’s according to TH, will be angry. As will we. WE WILL NOT VOTE. We understand that you just don’t want her, even though she is most qualified. Added with the threat of people being “angry” that we just don’t give it to him. I suppose this is why women throughout United States history have been the last to have rights. I think we shouldn’t fear, we are in a civilized society, right?

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 1:29 am 1:29 am

I agree Cannon, and IRMA, lets just say I work in a state democratic office, (totally true), and my boss is a state senator and the buzz around is that we wish we threw more behind Richardson but the real support was behind Obama from some older senators before the race began due to ongoing power struggles within the party with the Clintons. I can tell you that we don’t like the numbers with a McCain and Obama matchup because he is not strong enuf to get the white vote across the board but now even she is not strong enough to get the aa votes BUT she is making some serious enemies now within the party with certain things going on out of public view but they ar gonna step in soon and end this. They started outside the senate to test the waters,(Richardson) and slowly they will come out because unless he can make a speech that will vet the average white vote, we are doomed, but Clinton is also doomed. Most in the senate realize that to give her the nod now, will tear us apart within the DNC. There is no easy way out of this. Deals continue to try to be struck with Ms. Clinton but she won’t waver instead threatning DNC harm.
What she continues to miss is they,we can’t take it from him unless she sweeps the hell out of him for the rest oof the contests. hopefully you uunderstand this better because some of uus just want a better person besides the 2 we got, but the harm to the DNC will be far greater if we give her the nod, rather then just another failed election.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 1:40 am 1:40 am

We already know Hill supporters aint gonna stand for him, so now you understand the word no matter who it is, we as the democrats are doomed but we would rather be doomed then ripped 2 shreds.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 1:44 am 1:44 am

Just 2 give you all insight, this political senate fight has been going long before the race, between Kennedy and HIll, and maybe that will answer some questions about people publicaly backkin ob

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 1:51 am 1:51 am

That’s the problem! Why are deals being made with her to get out? WE, the Dem base want her, so? Unbeliveable! You have been forcing her out since she began, with the guy that can’t win. Kerry, Kennedy and the rest are at fault.

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 1:53 am 1:53 am

It is the end of the night people and I have sleep to get but Obama is the unsaid nominee and the media doesnt want to say it but the word in congress and the senate is just that. The repubs talk to the dems around here and pass the word to MCain which is why he and others continue to go after OBAMA, the problem is so isn’t Clinton so when we hand him the torch, its gonna go dim anyways.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 1:56 am 1:56 am

Doesn’t it make sense, that Obama, going to a church majorly centered on their race, would be more likely to bring race into the dialogue?

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 2:00 am 2:00 am

Tow: This shouldn’t even have been a close election. The dems should have taken the presidency easily, yet it already seems lost to me. So, why should most of care about the DNC? If what you are saying is true, I sincerely hope HRC does tear down the democratic party. It needs to be torn up, so it can redefine itself. Heck, on the national level I’m not seeing how the DNC even functional at this point.
This being said, I hope I’m surprised at the convention. While I certainly don’t expect anything other than a weak candidate and a loss in November there is the hope that somehow the two candidates can hold their noses, hold hands, and move forward towards an almost certain victory. The odds would change from about 10% to 90% and all the insiders would get to keep their jobs. Can’t party leaders see this?

Posted by: CK Canon | March 23, 2008, 2:00 am 2:00 am

Pelosi played dirty by trying to take the SD support away. Now the power struggle includes us, the BASE!

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 2:04 am 2:04 am

UNDERSTAND THIS URMA, no one anticipated this, and Hill and Bill made alot of enemieswith back door force so allot of feelings towards her are stale. When she ran for the senate of NY, she stomped on another democrat who had to sit that race out because her and bill felt that would be a good base to make her have some sort of history. If she would have just ran in Arkansaw or where she grew up, we wouldn’t have this division in the senate in the first place. Bill came and twisted allot of arms to place her on a NY ticket because thats where his office was gonna be and it wasn’t fair, but out of fear and intimidation, she became a NY senator bought and paid for by their powerful donors in NYC so please know the history before you make rash judgements. You won’t find allot of what I know in her books or on display for the public and I understand you are a true hill believer thru and thru, but it doesnt change the actions the Clintons took that got her the reputation she has in the senate. Make no mistake, there are 2 power plays going here, diminish the Clinton power within the DNC because they truly were not kind to there own politically when she got here. The only cover junior senators had in these walls when she did unfair things was TED

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 2:09 am 2:09 am

Yeah, sounds like what Obama did.

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 2:16 am 2:16 am

Cannon, this DNC means more then Hill and if we have to hand it to OB just to see him loose, then thats livable verses give it to hill and not only loose, but create a vacumm of other events that would surely rip the party to points I can’t even imagine and I been around these hacks 8 plus. Trust me, HE IS THE NOMINEE, and although it will sting, but not before they join and rip the Clinton Legacy and even Bill doesn’t want that but it is very ugly in the halls towards the Clintons right now because she has even threatened some senior people with caos and they might tear her down. Yes, she is a “Clinton”, but if she keeps up the back door things, I believe they will damage her NY Support as well as publicly.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 2:21 am 2:21 am

If support was stale, she would not have had the larger support. The bullyhing came from Kennedy. Yeah, we know what he’s like. We also know what Kerry is like. They don’t like it that she was going to be the nominee. They tried to tare her down and crown him a “Kennedy”, Dynasty? Yeah, she’s foiled that and we are all being bullied to give it up. DREAM ON!

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 2:21 am 2:21 am

Here’s why they’re to blame; Kennedy and Kerry. The people like and want the Clintons. Why did TED screw with this. He helped to create this screwed up wedge. DEMS would have been in with the Clintons. All this junk came from that distructive driven Kennedy.

Posted by: irma | March 23, 2008, 2:27 am 2:27 am

Dear IRMA, you are speaking fom emotion and passion, but I am truthfully telling you, she made the enimies when she unfairly went to NY and ran in the locals race just because who she was, she had other dem donors saying they would pull support away from others within the senate if she wasnt helped and handed that specific NY senate slot. This sent vibrations of what was right and wronge and no one could stop it without showing a public fight within the party. When she wanted something it was mostly through intimidation and political manipulations within these walls, and due to fear, no one wanted to be against her but they see this as there way to diminish the threat and I can say this, it was never this bad here, all the whispers about snubbin this one and that one, the visits from bill when she didn’t get her way with the secret service always hovering, you really love her and I understand but you love her blindly and dont know why others dont and I am truly trying to help you understand.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 2:36 am 2:36 am

The bottom line is that Obama does not yet have sufficient experience to assume the presidency. It would have been much better for him to have gained the experience and run when he was more capable of leading. His main claim to fame is his ability to deliver a well prepared speech. As it stands, he may have detroyed his chances for both the present and the future. Time would have allowed him to distance himself from the rantings of Rev. Wright and, actually, go beyond the platitudes. He has also been the victim one time too often. It is difficult to be critical of him without being called a racist and that gets old. Mr. Obama is an extraordinarily divisive personality. I’m not sure that the Democrats can survive him in an election that should easily be won by them. The McCarthism comment is laughable. Bill Clinton has done more for this country than Obama can even begin to conceptualize.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 2:38 am 2:38 am

We know Obamas flaws now more then ever but we are stuck with him and it is not a joy, he is just the lesser of the 2. If you truly had the pleasure of working with both you would see that ones ways of doing business is completely diff from the other

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 2:43 am 2:43 am

I understand what you saying Tow, but why not put OB and HRC on the same ticket? Are the parties involved, that is the party insiders so proud, or full of self-interest that they can’t see this is the only way out? If OB is given the nomination, chooses Richardson or Dodd or Edwards (etc.) to be the nominee and loses do you think anything will be better in 2012? Is getting HRC and her inner circle worth it at all costs? Is Ted’s inner circle any better and/or different? I never imagined reasonably intelligent people (even in politics) would be so insular (and stupid).

Posted by: CK Canon | March 23, 2008, 2:45 am 2:45 am

Well, to tell you the truth, it wss floated to the Obama camp first within the party, but Hill had to go and start saying it publicly without OB agreeing and that killed it.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 2:49 am 2:49 am

Had Hill kept the talks private, I thik we had a chance at a joint ticket because we had both camps at least privately considering but when she came out and started saying it, trust me, all were pissed in the DNC, and thats why Pelosi came out discusted at Hill and said she killed it when she opened her mouth.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 2:55 am 2:55 am

Finnally, your starting to understand why we can’t give it to hill.
Give it to hill, we loose the DNC as we know it, Give it to OB, we keep the DNC intact but loose the race but can reclaim it 4 years later because just because Mcsame is in the Big House, he needs the other 2 houses to get the job done so the DNC will still run the country behind the scenes, BUT we loose all power plus allot of seats and elections from mass defections if we gave it to hill due to the fact that half of america are simple.
1+1=2 and thats hard to eplain if the numbers are on his side but we gave it to her and as I said b4, Hill made enemies long b4 this process..

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 3:03 am 3:03 am

The two warring camps better send some insiders out to talk to Mr. Joe and Ms. Joan Public, because the only hope is to get together and figure it out. Swallow collective pride and move on. Tow, I’m not buying it that because HRC started floating the idea public it is now dead in the water. That can’t be all there is to that story, or if it is, then the OB camp never wanted it from the start.

Posted by: CK Canon | March 23, 2008, 3:05 am 3:05 am

Most HRC supporters would support OB as president, and HRC as vice president. If OB won and she refused, he’d still get most of our support and I’m assuming it would go the same with HRC on top.

Posted by: cK Canon | March 23, 2008, 3:09 am 3:09 am

As you all can see, I am just a true democrat that sits behind the scenes and knows the realities. She right now to us is the Mike Huckabee on the dem side, but her political future will be far worse off the longer she drags this out. Right now, as I understand it, no one here is to come out and publically vote for OB until after INdiana and Hill is calling everyday for other scenerious but with the stale feelings around here, and the fact that her power to manipulate is diminished, gracefully is the option she has left and she seems to be willing to go the other way.

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 3:11 am 3:11 am

By the way, Hill said she only would ecept a ticket on top so thats out unless she changes her mind

Posted by: TowHappy | March 23, 2008, 3:23 am 3:23 am

Fair enough. It’s been educational Tow. I feel like I’m signing off with more of a perspective, but the same lack of amount of hope (if not more). I’m a HRC supporter, not because I like her as person, but I think she is a good politician (publicly I guess), extremely intelligent, and willing to do what needs to be done at this point in time. I don’t think anything that the press would say would cripple her. Too many people like myself want to see a woman president, want someone relative moderate, and aren’t ready for the focus of race which OB brings at this point in time. I think she would have been a great transition for where we are in 2008, and then OB could have taken the reigns eight years later. But things haven’t worked out (why oh why couldn’t OB have waited a few years), and now we are the worse for it.

Posted by: cK Canon | March 23, 2008, 3:38 am 3:38 am

Hillary needs to stay in. Obama lost many of his original supporters once they became aware of his 20 year support of a man who preaches against America and white people. The speach affect of his campaign wore off and people started looking at the actions (or more like inaction) of him. There is going to be lots of pressure on the superdelegates who will ultimately have to look at the reality of the general election and who can actually win. This Wright thing is not going to go away. No matter how much the Obama camp tries to divert it, Americans will not forget or forgive GD America or anyone who supports that behavior. It won’t happen.

If the Democrats keep reversing themselves by seating any of the delegates from Michigan or Florida which would be in direct violation of the rules of the DNC, then any credibility they might have gained in recent months with the voting public is out the window. Hillary and Bill need to drop out of the race, commit their delegates to Obama, get the Gov. of Ohio as VP candidate and try to win in Nov. In the real world it will not matter who is Pres. the economy will be an issue and so will the terrorists when they attack us again which is much more certain than the economy going bad.

One can compare Rev Wright’s hate filled sermons with a madrasa .. and how Al queda brainwashes young generations into hate .. and if Obama really wants to displace the racial divide in this country he should have ran away from Rev Wright well before the DVD’s were shown to America … he will now have to suffer the consequences of his poor judgement ..

TowHappy,
I think you underestimate what the effect of HRC losing the primary will be. I agree with you that McCain will likely defeat either democratic candidate.
However, if HRC loses the primary, and then when BO loses the general election….trust me, the party will be split in half. HRC will be saying that she could have beaten McCain, that BO was too much of a novice, too ambitious and not ready for the presidency, destroyed the party’s guarantee for the white house, etc.
I think whoever wins the primary (most likely Obama), the party is in tatters.

Saying something negative about an immediate family member (who raised you and loved you) in order to justify one’s political position is just about as close to throwing someone under the bus as you can get without actually doing it.
If Wright did become so close to him that he was virtually a family member, and so cannot just disown him, then fine. You can keep him close to you. But you should NOT be attending his services and stay a member of his Church when he is promoting racial divide – nor have him marry you to your wife, baptise your children, and expose your children to his hate speech.
If Obama is unable to separate his personal affection for someone from what’s best for his family, then I can tell you outright this man will not be able to handle office. There was an ongoing lapse of judgment on his part, one that last over a decade. The options are 1. Obama believes to some extent what Wright preaches or 2. Obama does not believe what Wright preaches but found it difficult to separate himself from him. (I will not grant you 3. Ignorance, because that is a load of BS).
Your choice George. Choose wisely.

And GOD FORBID, we have another 9/11 or its equivalent.
Then imagine President Obama has invited his spiritual advisor to the White House .. none other than Pastor Wright.
Then imagine he has invited his church to the Rose Garden and his spiritual advisor is delivering a similar speech like the one he delivered after the 9/11 2001.
Now, if this all seems cool to you, if this feels like the right thing for you, if this makes you feel proud and safe, if this give you hope, then you vote Obama.

The Clintons sordid past is an open book—the Travelgate, Pardongate, Chinagate, cattle-futures, Whitewater scandals; the using Marines as waiters; the IRS auditing of critics; the hiring of detectives to dig up dirt on women seduced by Bill; the Monica Lewsinki trysts in the rooms of the White House; the 50+ deaths by murder, suicide, accidents and sudden illnesses of people connected the Clinton regime; the Impeachment.
All that is bound to come out and derail the schemes of the Clintons machine to retake power. McCain 08!

I am a proud Canadian watching from the sidelines American politics turn into a soap opera of all sorts. And who are the actual losers? Not the Clintons. Not Obama. Yes, you all, the American people, because you are being deprived of the privilege to determine which candidate really meets those issues more important to you: your health, your declining economy and popularity, your children’s education, the Iraq war, etc. It is a shame that much emphasize is given around dirty politics and rhetorics such that the most important element in this whole picture is completely left out in the cold: you, the American people so desperately needing a good leader who can lead you in these difficult times. My heart goes to all of you. However, like it or not: I think McCain will be the next US President. This will be my first and last posting so I bid you adieu and good luck. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
