‘Washingtonienne’ Rears Head in Spitzer Scandal

I thought the Spitzer scandal had already been replaced by the Paterson scandal, which in Newsweek gave rise to a Jonathan Alter story how, I quote “the travails of New York Gov. David Paterson have opened up a new potential career path for Clinton, according to well-informed Democratic Party insiders who refused to allow their names to be used when discussing contingencies. They want her to consider the option if she concludes after the April 22 Pennsylvania primary that she cannot overtake Barack Obama for the party’s presidential nomination. Hillary Clinton, while fully committed to continuing her presidential campaign, was said to be open to discussing the idea, while Bill Clinton rejected it out of hand.”

As a liberal republican I offer this comment. I too, also think Hillary Clinton should reject the advise. I personally thing, she can over take Barack Obama.
Frankly, I believe the Rev. Jeremiah Wright issue is not over. The really good investigative journalist are now going to be digging deeper into Jeremiah Wright past. As well as opening the flood gates to dive into the Tony Rezko relationship. Having moved from Chicago, everyone knows those two were thick as thieves. Rezko was very comfortable will all government leadership. I think this is just beginning.
However, I think it’s to late for democrats. DNC has decided on Barack Obama. The GOP, pinned back with a welcoming smile, are foaming at the mouth to get to take down Obama. They know, that’s the only way republican are going to keep the White House in November.

What I liked about the Alter story was the ending, in which a Clinton campain aide confirms that the Clintonites live in an alternative universe and therefore have lost their sense of reality in this campain. It’s rather amusing, also in its ‘I’ versus ‘they’ confusion:
“Every time the punditocracy says otherwise, she happens to win,” says another campaign aide, declining to comment on the record. “Hillary believes, and so do I, that she’ll be president this year. It may be an alternative universe, but it’s the one they [the Clintons] live in.”

“[D]eclining to comment on the record” most likely means Alter — like Jason what’s-his-name — is making up his own quotes.

“I stiil do not know how deeply Wright’s separatist movement is ingrained in Obama. But I certainly know that “Separatist” is opposite of “uniter” by Webster’s or any other definition.”
That tells a lot about you then. For a very large majority of Americans it is absolutely clear that the least appropriate adjective for Obama’s view and ideal of American society would be ‘separatist’.
And Obama’s swift recovery in the polls from a whole media week dedicated to Wright’s most inflammatory stuff tell the GOP that Wright will NOT serve their needs if they want to seriously hurt Obama in the GE.
Obama will be our next President. Turnout for McCain in the GE will simply not be large enough to compete with the record numbers of Dem voters this year.
Furthermore, there will be a lot of serious damage done to McCain’s credentials in the months to come. On election day the words “straight talk” will be a running joke throughout the country and across the aisle.
