Most likely TUCC will go underground until and if Obama is elected, then the links will reappear and so will the trail to the White House. Meanwhile the Democratic base will take a financial beating for another four years.

Wright was replaced just the other day as head of that church. New leadership. Perhaps others — including the “new boss” — were put off by what he said as well. The idea that Obama is “behind the scrubbing” strikes me as a little paranoid and overly-conspiratorial.

They can scrub whatever website they want. The damage has been done. Whether or not Senator Obama is able to perpetrate this scam on democratic Super Delegates remains to be seen, but the Republicans have this info and will ride it to the White House in November if he is the nominee.
Every time Sen. Obama speaks of Rev. Wright, his answer changes — positively pathological.

I would never vote for either democratic candidate. That said, I do believe Clinton is the victim of far left politicians — mostly, the elite east coast liberal establishment. There’s no doubt Obama is more to the left and less to the center than Clinton.
Then, there’s the media. It’s well known that they lean far to the left — that, by their own admission. I can’t see how anyone who reads the papers or listens to CNN or NBC could possibly believe Hillary is getting a square deal.
So, Hillary will probably loose. The left is betting her followers will be bound to the party enough that they’ll rally around Obama. I don’t think that will happen. I think there will be ample resentment about how the media and special interest manipulated the coverage and, consequently, the election.

The Trinity Church has already built and payed for a million dollar mansion in Tinley Park, IL, a suburb of Chicago. It’s huge and has all the bells and whistles. This place could easily fit 5 poor families in Hyde Park where Trinity Church is. Instead of giving the money to the needy black community, they chose to let their former rasist pastor live in the lap of luxury.

This was supposed to be the week that the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. returned to the pulpit to preach for the first time since his anti-American sermons generated nationwide outrage and drew condemnation from his longtime parishioner, Barack Obama.
But, citing security concerns, Wright canceled his speaking engagements in Florida and Texas. A spokeswoman at his former church in Chicago said his schedule is pending.
A two-week FOX News investigation, however, has uncovered where Wright will be spending a good deal of his time in retirement, and it is a far cry from the impoverished Chicago streets where the preacher led his ministry for 36 years.

I am a Republican and I won’t vote for Obama. McCain is too far left for me, but I only had one vote. After reading the Black Values I don’t really have a problem with them except the part about disavowing “middleclassness”. Substitute middleclassness for bourgeoisie and then you are leaning so far left that you are somewhere in the socialist/communist part of the spectrum. I am middle class and I don’t see anything wrong with it. I would prefer to be rich or even super rich but I would need to make a considerable contribution to the economy to do so. Anybody that is rich has done so in one way or the other. Paris Hilton is rich because her grandfather filled a need in the hotel industry. Bill Gates is rich because helped standardize PC computers and bundled office productivity software.

Well I am guessing with media circus that has followed this story and the hate male this church was getting that they are trying to redesign their website to show their side of the story. That is what I would do if I was the member for a website like this who felt they were being unfairly characterized. I guess you will have to wait and see.

I think the Pastor Wright incident was a game ended event. Just as the church is removing objectionable material from its website, Obama is also backpeddling about his relationship with Wright.
Obama now seems to be claiming that this relationship, which was onced used for benefit in his Chicago district, and to help him fight the rumors of being a muslim, was never as close or as important as the media is trying to make it appear. Unfortunately for both the church and Senator Obama, there will be abundant evidence to disprove the new reality they are trying to create.
The questions every Obama supporter should ask themselves are, if the Republicans truly viewed Obama as the stronger candidate than Clinton, why didn’t they show these Rev. Wright videos back in January and February when they would have been catastrophic to his campaign? And, why have they failed to start highlighting some of his inconsistencies until now? Why did they essentially let an unvetted candidate come so close to winning the nomination?

The pilot of that plane that Hill was on is now retired and was on a radio talk show recently. He stated that the account Hill gave of the incident is totally false. He also stated that if they had been in ANY danger of being fired at by snipers they NEVER would have landed. She’s a liar, face the facts.

The church has a new Pastor effective March 2008. Is it so out of line for it to change its website? Most organizations shift focus when new leadership arrives. Those who minimize the importance of a pastor or spiritual director obviously have no idea what it like to sit in church week after week listening to sermons from the same person. Wright and is dissembling about what he knew, when he knew it and why he put up with it and financially supported it for 20 years.

And after his speach about race, if he really thinks he is going to change the countrys view on race, why didn’t he start with Rev. Wright? So trinity is a more focus church to help lift a fragile people in that community which happens to be black.

When you are the MINORITY in any situation.. That group have every right to not only speak its mind; but build the spirits of that group, especially if they feel some injustice have taken place.

This means that the tone has started to change and the church has learned a lesson and it needs some support from all of us to ensure that the removal of certain issues from the website will not be a way to hide things, but a starting point for discussions around race relations. i remember america being pretty prosperous when he was. it is disappointing to know obamaphilias have such selective memories of his administration.

If there is nothing wrong with what wright has said, and if his remarks were in good order as so many blacks are now saying why the scrub?
If his remarks and the teachings of this church have been taken out of context, and just being played to hurt Obama’s chances why the scrub?
What is it that they are trying to hide, are they no longer standing by their words, what happens to the black value system that they preached is it now a non issue?……hypocritical I say, they talk for days on what is right for all AA, and America and now they are scrubbing their words, why move it leave it for all to read and nothing is wrong so what is a fuss about it now?

Just as the dust surrounding Sen. Barack Obama’s long-term association with controversial minister Rev. Jeremiah Wright has begun to settle comes new reports of the democratic presidential hopeful’s connection to another racially divisive public figure—the stridently homophobic Rev. James T. Meeks, an Illinois state senator who also serves as the pastor of Chicago’s 22,000 member strong Salem Baptist Church.
Interestingly, the Chicago Sun Times has also reported that both Meeks and Obama share a history of substantial campaign contributions from indicted real estate magnate Tony Rezko.
Not only has Meeks himself served on Obama’s exploratory committee for the presidency and been listed on the Obama’s campaign website as one of the senator’s ‘influential black supporters’, but his church choir was called on to raise their voices in praise at a rally the night Obama announced his run for the White House back in 2007.
But the question remains: At what point must a candidate for the highest office in the United States be held accountable for the small coterie of individuals who make up his or her inner circle and potentially bear influence on his interpretation of the constitution? And at what point does the benefit of the doubt give way to guilt by association?
Moreover, how can a candidate cultivate a constituency like that of Rev. James Meek, essentially espousing a shared belief in their value system, become an effective and powerful advocate on behalf of issues like LGBT rights that run counter to fundamental agenda of that constituency without experiencing severe repercussions? The answer is he can’t.
Described in a 2004 Chicago Sun Times article as someone Barack Obama regularly seeks out for “spiritual counsel”, James Meeks, who will serve as an Obama delegate at the 2008 Democratic convention in Denver, is a long-time political ally to the democratic frontrunner.

I see numerous contributions from PACs and one from Chesapeake Energy Corp. According to their Web site, they are the “largest independent producer and third-largest overall producer of natural gas in the United States.”

Barrack Obama’s pastor not only spews anti-American rhetoric from the pulpit but favors shaking down U.S. taxpayers for “reparations” for slavery. The Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright was the keynote speaker at the 2007 annual conference of N’COBRA, which stands for the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America.
Wright’s talk, “A Call for Justice and Repair,” followed a statement in which he declared that “The Biblical principle of true repentance is that the offended party is given compensation to make up for that which has been stolen from them, the losses that have been inflicted upon them and their families.
”
A reparations plan for blacks could extract several trillion dollars from American taxpayers’ pockets.
But Wright isn’t the only controversial member of Obama’s church. Dr. Iva Carruthers, who describes herself as an active member of the church, is an outspoken advocate of reparations for blacks and was a participant in N’COBRA’s 2004 conference.
Carruthers was identified, along with Wright, as a member of Obama’s African American Religious Leadership Committee. Wright has since been dropped from the group. But Carruthers is sometimes referred to as a spokesman for Wright and works with him closely.
Indeed, Carruthers may be even more controversial, especially on the issue of reparations. She wrote The Church and Reparations―An African American Perspective, which was reportedly “distributed by her denomination” at the 2001 U.N. World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance. The conference was considered so extreme that the U.S. delegation, led by then-Secretary of State Colin Powell, walked out.
Not only are members of his church involved in the reparations movement; Obama is said to have been politically close to former Chicago Alderman Dorothy Jean Wright Tillman, who led an effort by the Chicago City Council to demand reparations for slavery. “Chicago has become the de facto center of the slavery reparations movement,” noted a journalist for the far-left In These Times.

If you think that being radically in favor of live birth abortions (killing babies after they are born) and partial birth abortions of 100% viable babies (even most dems are against this) is consistent with a firm belief in God, please for your own soul search a little deeper. These are firm beliefs of Obama–and ironically, his argument was to keep them from having rights so even a live born baby could be killed without consequence–the same exact rationale used to continue slavery, as well as abuse and kill slaves, without consequence, pre-civil war. See, now you’re spinning. I never made a comment against black voters nro was I attempting to make illegitimate any claims by black voters. I am simply pointing out that the black votes that swung Baraks way didn’t swing that way until after Bill’s comment, and AFTER Geraldine Ferraros comment, when previously they may very well have swung Hillary’s way. I am also pointing out that Obama’s campaign is not a token one, and for the same reason that Hillary’s isn’t a token one.
I have only pointed out the fact that MOST women suppoeting Hillary are doing so for the wrong reason. and anyone, including any black person voting for Obama simply because he’s black is guilty of the same offense.
Sadly, most of the people supporting Hillary are far less genuine than the one’s supporting Barak Obama AT THIS POINT. All this from a few sermons(minutes actually) of Pastor Wright shown on T.V., And you cant understand why some blacks are still mad about Slavery , Jim Crow, and the forcing out of blacks from the political landscape in the late 1800′s, Or the ethnic cleansing that occurred in some cities in the early 1900′s. I find it the ignorant and angry remarks of a minister who leads people in fait, very disturbing. We all know and even love people who have made remarks we know are wrong. When I was little, my wonderful grandfather used a mild ( in the sceme of things) racist word and told him not to say that – even a little child, knows better. I told him not to say that because I did not want my wonderful grandfather to say something that might hurt someone else and I knew in his heart he was a generous and kind person. If we love someone we should not be afraid to tell that person when they say things that hurt other people.

Obama may win the nomination but has a little shot at the general election…Dems have screwed up and backed the wrong over zealous candidate arrogant, candidate whose platform has been shot with liars and holes he will owe so many of the “establishment” favors and will be their little puppet if he gets elected …but the general election is not a caucus and he will lose Michigan and Florida in his blindness to win the nomination in place of giving them their right to decide particularly when it was the republicans who screwed the Dem in Florida…Obama withdrew his name in Michigan..

I’ve yet to see much in the mainstream media to correct the out of context distortion of Rev. Wright. When I have seen it in a few less mainstream places, the reaction of people is quite remarkable in that many recognize the shortcomings of the coverage and how they’ve been misled.
This weekend the church held a meeting to address the one sided attacks with their congregation because they’re concerned with the damage that is being done – at the very least, some unfairly. If there’s going to be a one way dialogue in the mainstream media on the church with the media taking their material out of context to sensationalize (unfairly from their perspective), they’ve got to protect themselves.
If you were in their boots and something being openly discussed by you was getting twisted into something else or something worse, would you continue to provide fodder for that? Obviously not. So I don’t blame them.
Having looked pretty closely at the issue and Rev. Wright’s sermons, I think the mainstream media coverage largely limited to snippets out of contest has been unfair and a disgrace to those who stand for quality in journalism. The proof in this is in the reaction by those who get the full story. It’s there and irrefutable. I have more issues with the media coverage than I do with what Rev. Wright said.

Thanks for the great article Jake! It’s very important for us to know that damage control is being undertaken by Obama’s church. I urge all people (especially young people) to research Obama very thoroughly and don’t trust that you’ve heard it all on the news stations like NBC and CNN. My new nickname for him is “teflon man” since none of his lies and deceptions seem to stick around long and there have been many… It’s bad for our democracy for the press to manipulate the news in favor of Obama. It’s refreshing for me that I can get balanced news on both democratic candidates from ABC News and Fox News at least. 6. Punish the democratic voters in 2 very important states and you can kiss the election goodbye in Nov.
7. Look up the role of superdelegates for yourselves… otherwise they will close this post before I can educate all of you.

“Separation of Church and State”: It is the only arrangement by which out diverse society can hope to function. If a church (any church) is going to use it’s pulpit for politics, then they should lose their non-profit status. They should also be TAXED and fined! Beyond some reasonable minimum definition (or formula) for church owned assets in direct ratio to the size of their congregation, these churches should not be permitted accumulating obscene wealth in the form of vast real estate holdings, held off the tax roles, and radio and television broadcasting conglomerates to manipulate the public politically. LOL! You need to hear the audio of Hillary’s initial response to the Michigan and Florida penalty. They asked her why her name was still on the ballot of Michigan while others removed theirs. Here are the facts:
1.) The Axis Powers started WW II, not the U.S. or anyone else. The U.S. entered the war after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.
2.) Hundreds of cities, with civilians, were bombed with conventional bombs during the course of WW II, with many nearly destroyed. Japan bombed cities in China, Australia, Philippines, Korea, Malaysia and much of Asia. Germany bombed cites in England, Russia, Poland, France, Netherlands, Belgium and else ware in Europe. And of course the Allies bombed many cities in Germany, Japan and Italy.
3.) Japanese War Crimes – the Japanese military murdered from nearly 3,000,000 to over 10,000,000 people, most probably 6,000,000 Chinese, Indonesians, Koreans, Filipinos, and Indochinese, among others, including Western prisoners of war. This democide was due to a morally bankrupt political and military strategy, military expediency and custom, and national culture.
4.) Two weeks prior to using the Atomic bombs the Allies issue the Potsdam Declaration that gave Japan the choice of surrender or destruction. Japan never responded.
5.) The decision to drop the Atomic bombs saved countless lives, both American and Japanese. Estimated United States casualties rose to over a million while unknown for Japan if amphibious assaults were launched. If you compare that statistic to the one hundred ten thousand killed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, you would probably say that the casualties in Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just a small fraction of what the real casualties would have been if an amphibious assault was carried out. If it were not for the atomic bomb, waves of American amphibious attacks would have been initiated on Japan. In addition, the outcome of the war in the Pacific would have been unknown with a land invasion.
6.) Supporters also point to an order given by the Japanese War Ministry on August 1, 1944, ordering the disposal and execution of all Allied POWs, numbering over 100,000, if an invasion of the Japanese mainland took place.
7.) Supporters of the bombing also argue that waiting for the Japanese to surrender was not a cost-free option. “For China alone, depending upon what number one chooses for overall Chinese casualties, in each of the ninety-seven months between July 1937 and August 1945, somewhere between 100,000 and 200,000 persons perished, the vast majority of them noncombatants. For the other Asians alone, the average probably ranged in the tens of thousands per month, but the actual numbers were almost certainly greater in 1945, notably due to the mass death in a famine in Vietnam. 8.) Japan also had an Atomic Program during WW II. The U.S. knew of its existence but not how far along it was. US intelligence took the possibility very seriously. Japan’s nuclear program was indeed verified after the war.
No reasonable person will ever dispute that Germany or Japan would have bombed U.S. cities with either conventional or nuclear weapons if they had the capabilities, resources and opportunity. Fortunately America’s Greatest Generation and Heroes prevented this from happening.

I just googled Trinity United Church of Christ AND they DID SCRUB it!!!!!! when you do it hit CACHED at the bottom of the listing it will bring you to a description of the Black values system very different from the one presently ( buried on the website…It used to be on the first page. Why are they hiding it?

All I hear is what about Jerry Falwell or John Hagee,I think your missing the point no other candidate goes to Falwell or Hagees church let alone for 20 years,but Obama went to this fools church for 20 years and has no excuse for doing so.Obama just recently regained his hearing after 20 years and now he says if pastor Wright hadnt retired hed have left the church,he shovels manure big piles of it

Jim I don’t think this story has anything to do with racism on the editors part. I call it an unbias opinion by the reporter to bring you all aspects of situation. In this case Obama and his illustrious church. I will say it again Obama is running for President of the United States he should be scrutinized, he should be exposed from all angles. That is what they are doing to Hillary, and that is what they are doing to McCain. Obama is no better than any of the others. Everyone else has and will have their personal lives rehashed, and rehashed again before this is all over. I commend the article it is giving you a clearer view of Obama and those that surround him.

Barak and Michelle were not CHOSEN to lead us; at least, not by any god. If they become the president and first lady it will be because we see nobility, and honesty and integrity in them, or that we are lead to believe that they have those qualities.
I am, as well, a 34 year old white man with absolutely no power. I do not believe a god exist or has ever existed, and I fear noone when I am facing them.
I fear ignorance though, and hatred, and bigotry, and racism, and sexism, etc., ad nauseum. Any person alive can be a racist. Anyone. With or without power, as racism is just one form of prejudice. It’s important to note that.
I am a Barak Obama supporter because he does not claim the same thing you are. I am a Barak Obama supporter because he has not decided to blame the ills of this world on… a boys club, an amorphus blob of radical Islamic extremists, or whites in general. I support him because he does the people the service of distancing himself from people like that without having to be asked. I support him because I feel that when he says things he isn’t blowing smoke up our butts, and I support him because he doesn’t consider me evil. Scrubbing the site isn’t the big issue James, scrubbing the books is. It is tax fraud for a non-profit church to endorse a political candidate. Period. Their tax-exempt status should be revoked and we (taxpayers) should get back the millions of dollard the Christ Church saved. Obama can’t be sooo inexperienced that he doesn’t know this. Hillary hasn’t gone “negative” on this one. Obama would rather begin a national debate on race by throwing Geraldine Ferraro under the bus for stating the obvious (shame on you Keith Olbermann) If he was a white state senator from Ill. would he have been given national air time at the 2004? A debate let’s both sides discuss, a sermon is where one person talks and everyone else listens.

I completely agree that the church’s tax exempt status should be revoked, and yes I would even go as far as you have and say that the church should be forced to pay taxes like everyone else for it’s political statement against Mrs. Clinton. However, the scrubbing of the site IS the issue, at least in this instance, and that is what I am commenting on.
The issue of tax exempt status hasn’t come up at all; so, I would suggest you lobby this and other news organizations to concentrate on that. As far as Ms. Ferraro, it wasn’t Obama that threw her under a bus, nor was she thrown under a bus. She was called out for tokenizing his campaign as just due to his blackness, your race, my race, or anybody elses race aside, and as that somehow being a fortunate thing, and in doing so SHE reintroduced race as a factor, along with the initial reporter who brought up the implication that he may not be black enough, and Bill Clinton’s comments on race, intended or not.
So, please, again, keep your straw man aguements to yourself. THIS issue HERE IS about the scrubbing of a website, otherwise it would have been titled something else. As well, I see no remarksby Mr. Tapper regarding the churches taz exempt status… that is something YOU have brought up.

How do you intend to Malign Senator Obama about the churches tax exempt status, while at the same time, keeping your church and others out of the public eye, when so many other churches have used their religious power to do what Rev. Wright has done?
The difference between them being that, most often, those churches attempt to call what they do positive for America… you know… like that freak group that goes to the funerals of soldiers and praises god for their deaths because of homosexuals? Or the religious nuts that bomb Abortion clinics, because it’s “god’s will”.

If Rev. Wright so openly spews anti-American incendiary rhetoric to thousands of people in a church sermon, is it not a logical line of inquiry to explore where the Church’s contributions are going?? I’m incredulous the press hasn’t grabbed on to this as an area that at least is important to investigate. We know church finances are exempt from most tax laws, but that makes the potential for illicit activity (i.e. funding ant-US organizations….TERRORISTS) even more likely in a cult like Rev Wrights.

The church has scrubbed their site just as Obama’s site has scrubbed any controversial material (and connections), just as Princeton U has taken Michelle O’s senior thesis and removed it from the libraries records and put it under lock and key until after the Nov elections.
Lots of stuff “scrubbed” and removed from the public eye, as is the Michelle tape.
