Bill Clinton: Obama Played Race Card On Me

ABC News’ Rick Klein Reports: Bill Clinton accused Barack Obama’s campaign of "playing the race card on me" and told a Philadelphia radio station that the Obama campaign took his Jesse Jackson comment and "twisted it for political purposes."

And as the interview concluded, Clinton turned to an associate and said, "I don’t think I should take any s–t from anybody on that, do you?"

Making a campaign stop and enjoying another interrupted breakfast at Pamela’s P&G Diner Tuesday morning in downtown Pittsburgh, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.,  was asked to respond to Clinton.

The Democratic nomination frontrunner seemed confused by the comments.

"So, former President Clinton dismissed my victory in South Carolina as being similar to Jesse Jackson and he is suggesting that somehow I had something to do with it," Obama said laughing, "Ok, well, you better ask him what he meant by that. I have no idea what he meant. These are words that came out of his mouth, not out of mine."

Watch the VIDEO HERE.

And at President Clinton’s first polling stop in Pittsburgh, he too appeared unwilling to discuss the incident.

"No, no, no, that’s not what I said," Clinton told a reporter who asked about the radio comments, "You always follow me around and play these little games. And I am not going to play your games today. This is a day about election day, go back and see what the question was and what my answer was. You have mischaracterized it just to get a another cheap story to divert the American people from the real urgent issues before us, and I choose not to play your game today."

Watch the
VIDEO HERE.

Clinton was talking to station WHYY about the fallout over his comparison of Obama’s South Carolina primary victory with the support of black Democrats to Jesse Jackson’s primary wins. Those comments were portrayed by critics as an attempt to highlight Obama’s race.

The former president fumed on Monday that it was Obama’s campaign that injected the race issue.

"I think that they played the race card on me. And we now know, from memos from the campaign and everything that they planned to do it all along," Bill Clinton said in a telephone interview with WHYY’s Susan Phillips. "I was stating a fact, and it’s still a fact."

The former president says the comment was "used out of context and twisted for political purposes by the Obama camapign."

Clinton goes on to say that "you have to really go some place to play the race card on me." He lists a number of his accomplishments on behalf of African Americans, inexplicably putting the fact that he has "an office in Harlem" at the top of the list.

Clinton’s outburst began when Phillips asked the President how he feels about one Philadelphia official who says she switched her support after interpreting Clinton’s remarks in South Carolina as an attempt to marginalize Obama as "the black candidate."

Clearly, Clinton seems frustrated by the question or the suggestion by anyone – either the reporter or the Philadelphia official whom she quoted – that he was somehow making a negative statement about Obama (or Jesse Jackson) based on their race.

His frustration comes through towards the end of the recording when, apparently unaware that he was still on the line, Clinton asks whoever is with him, "I don’t think I should take any s–t from anybody on that, do you?"

lmao whinning about that Bill Clinton. how does it feel to have a lable like that. Then to end off being a hothead like McCain shows your true colors just like cai

Bill is absolutly correct. Blacks are voting for Obama more for his color than anything else..
Bill’s comment is far less offensive than the “Typical White Person” comment by OBAMA and the white thrashing that happens every sunday in Obama’s church and many such churches across the country.

I hope the press keeps on interviewing Bill because everytime he opens his mouth, Obama get another vote.

JAKE — you broke that Jesse story – but you never gave the complete tape. All we had was Bill’s comment about Jesse. WE do not have the question or series of questions that led to it. I agree that this is unfair. Context matters. Even Jesse Jackson said this – that he fears the statements are being taken out of context. DOES ANYONE HAVE THE FULL INTERVIEW???

Posted by: tony | April 22, 2008, 8:07 am 8:07 am

DOES ANYONE HAVE THE FULL INTERVIEW? TIRED OF JUST HEARING THAT ONE ANSWER – WHICH SEEMS CUT OFF.

Posted by: tony | April 22, 2008, 8:09 am 8:09 am

Bill doesn’t keep bringing it, he keeps being asked the question…If he says,”we’ve moved pass that”, it looks like he’s dodging the question, if he answers, he keeps the fire smoldering…It’s like a catch 22..

Posted by: dbaragona | April 22, 2008, 8:10 am 8:10 am

I really can’t wait until this thing is over and we don’t have to listen to the whining Clintons anymore! They’ve become incredibly annoying.

Posted by: dgfiit | April 22, 2008, 8:10 am 8:10 am

Bill,
The South Carolina primary was MONTHS AGO. Stop whining about that. That is OVER.
Move on and concentrate on winning the rest of the primaries.

the only problem I see with this is Rick Klein calling President Clinton’s remarks an “outburst”. He sounds perfectly calm and reasoned to me. Why do you all try to out FOX each other and make controversy where none exists?

Posted by: NewHampster | April 22, 2008, 8:19 am 8:19 am

If you don’t want to get dirty, don’t put your uniform on …
If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen.
Same old Clinton passive/aggressive tactics …
In the words of Al Gore, “It’s time for them to go.”

Posted by: jeb jackson | April 22, 2008, 8:20 am 8:20 am

That’s right Jeb.
Time for both of the mudslinging candidates to go.
Interesting that you should quote the man who can win the White House.
But, they won’t. These two will fight all the way to the convention in August.
And, Al Gore, the only truly qualified candidate with any respect, will be nominated.
Remember 1968…

Obama has been playing the race card from the very beginning. If anyone calls his hand on it, or anything else that he says for that matter, he whines and cries foul. Remember the last debate when he stated that it was 45 minutes before a question was asked about the issues? Sorry Obama, but your associates and your past remarks, have a great impact on how you plan to handle the issues. I am a lifelong Democrat who will vote for McCain if Obama is the party’s nominee.

Posted by: savethemiddleclass | April 22, 2008, 8:26 am 8:26 am

It is true that Obama played the race card first as part of his Rovian tactic to hit his opponent on his strengths. There is a four page memo sent by Obama’s campaign to the press with talking points for the media in how to paint the Clintons as racists. The media has done a poor job in exposing the racist element in Obama’s campaign.

This adds insult to injury.
He DID do it. And now, to BLAME Obama??
I think the Clintons have lost it.

Posted by: cheryl | April 22, 2008, 8:32 am 8:32 am

OMG! Is anyone paying attention to the Clintons! Bill is pushing so hard for this because it will be his 3rd term, not Hillary’s. No one has said the obvious so I will, anyone supporting her is doing it so that Bill can be president one more time. I agree with one writer, we are seeing their true colors now. All this time they profess to be for the minorities in this country, that is until a minority runs against Hillary, then they both put back on their “hoods” and the real Clintons came out. I’m stunned at the tactics they have used, its like a mother eating her own cubs, the Democratic party is ruined and and they are soley to blame. I’m a lifelong Democrat who will NOT vote for Hillary, if she is the nominee, McCain gets my vote, at least we know what he’s about.

Posted by: Belinda | April 22, 2008, 8:36 am 8:36 am

Obama has been playing the race card all along…His its time for a change speeches are aimed at African Americans to get them on his side to vote for him. Obama is a joke, if he happens to hold on and win the nomination for democratic candidate, my vote will go over to Mccain. No way do i want that joke Obama to be my leader.

Posted by: ryan | April 22, 2008, 8:36 am 8:36 am

I MUST SAY THIS BILL CLINTON IS RIGHT.I AM A BLACK PERSON BUT WHEN YOU START SAYING BILL CLINTON IS RACES THEN YOU REALLY DO NOT KNOW WHO AND WHAT RACES IS YOU ARE KIDDING ME. THE LAST PERSON WHO YOU CALL A RACES IS BILL HE HAD DONE SO MUCH FOR THE BLACK PEOPLE.PEOPLE WAS FALLING FOR THIS TRICK THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN USED HE IS PLAYING THE VICTIM . THE BLACK AMERCIAN VOTES FOR OBAMA BECAUSE HE IS BLACK NOT BECAUSE OF THAT TWISTED REMARK.THEY VOTE FOR HIM BECAUSE HE IS A SYMBOL FOR THE AFRICAN AMRICAN PEOPLE AND NOW THEY HAVE A CHANCE TO MAKE HISTORY NOT BECAUSE OF BILL CLINTON REMARKS.I MUST SAY IT REALLY SAD FOR SOME OF US BLACK PEOPLE BECAUSE IT IS TRUE WHEN A WHITE PERSON DISAGREED OR NOT FRIENDLY OR WHAT EVER REASON THEY WILL BE ACCUSE OF BEING RACES OR THEY DO NOT LIKE BLACK.I AM NOT SAYING THERE IS NOT RACES OUT THERE. AND IT NOT ONLY HAPPING HERE BUT ALL OVER THE WORLD. OBAMA IS USING THE SAME TRICKS . YOU SEE THAT OFTEN THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN IS USING THE RACE

Bill is IDIOT

Posted by: Linda,Fl | April 22, 2008, 8:38 am 8:38 am

Again, here is where the media does not provide all the truth. Senator Obama supporters and campaigners may have jump on these comments but after average voters made comments first, highlighted by the media airing and posting them. What a farce! This is so ridiculous. The media is to blame for a lot of mis-information put out there. Understand, they are racheting up their ratings.

Bill – I feel your pain.

Posted by: Mark | April 22, 2008, 8:38 am 8:38 am

WAY TO GO BILL! For anybody to accuse either of the Clintons of being racist is just plain crazy. He made a truthful statement that was twisted into something that it wasn’t. I personally feel that Obama and his wife and his “spiritual mentor” are the biggest racist in the country.

Posted by: Judy | April 22, 2008, 8:38 am 8:38 am

I think it’s absolutely hysterical that all of keep taking Obama’s side. Obama is not right. He is not trying to make this country better. He has another agenda. GET A CLUE!!!!!

Posted by: Nikki | April 22, 2008, 8:41 am 8:41 am

Not a problem with what he is saying,
and he should be worried that the press and Obama will twist everything he says about race. The press once again trying to make this into something it is not.
He has every reason to be frustrated with the press and Obamas campaign.
Obama does play, has played, and will continue to play the race card.
Here’s a number for Chris Matthews who clearly supports Obama with bias reporting: 90% that is percentage of black vote Obama has gotten. Let’s not pretend there is not a race issue going on here. Clintons have a track record as good or better then any other politicians especially Obama, but where does the black vote go? Obamas racial attacks don’t have anything to do with that?
Wait, Obama doesn’t campaing that way right? He’s different then any other politician. Give me a break.
Same old politics. He will do and say anything to win.

Hillary Voters are Secret “Bill for a 3rd term” voters. Come on guys, what experience does she “really” have? The media won’t say it so I will, if Hillary was not married to Bill, she never would have made it this far, any credibility she had when she started was only because he was president before and her husband. The wool has been pulled over many eyes. Don’t believe the hype, a vote for Hillary is a vote for Bill in the Oval Office again.

Posted by: B | April 22, 2008, 8:43 am 8:43 am

Appyarently, people have not moved on from this issue is reporters are still revisiting the question.  President Clinton has a right to be upset about it because there has been nothing to warrant such an accusation. This is precisely why issue on race cannot progress because everytime it is mention by someone white,  someone black pulls the race card. The truth is President Clinton has advance more issues for black people than Obama has.  I did not get upset when he said then and I am not upset now because what he said is obviously true.

I wish i could vote for Bill for a 3rd term..The economy was doing so much better quickly once he started office and stayed on the upbeat the whole time he was in office. Bill has said he would be a big help to Hill if she wins and i support the Clintons whole heartedly. If obama wins the nomination my vote will go to Mccain. Obama will ruin this country even more than Mccain will.

I hate to burst your bubble but Blacks work and pay taxes also. You don’t take care of me and mine, you take care of you and yours. I am not out here begging for a darn thing. I am sick and tired of people like you thinking blacks are welfare recipents. More Whites recieve welfare than Blacks, don’t forget, we have worked hard for hundreds and hundreds of years, with low to no pay. So get off your high horse and get with the program, we are here to stay and we are strong, just like we have always been. I don’t need your charity, I probably have a better income than you!

If Hillary hadn’t decided to attack Obama for running, as if she was the only one that deserved to, then maybe they would have BOTH been doing the job. All she had to do was save her dirty tactics for the Repubs, but instead she chose to attack her own. For Obama’s credit, he has been trying to fight fair and getting called names like ‘OBAMBI” for being decent to a fellow Dem and trying to get his point across without attacking her. She has been attacking him like a vicious dog. I loved the Clintons back in the day, would have loved the duel ticket that would have surely beat any Repub, but Hillary made the decision that if she wasn’t going to be Prez, no Dem would be so she and Bill decided to destroy the party.

Let me ask Bill Clinton a question: What exactly did you mean when you dismissed Obama’s win saying that “well Jesse Jackson won in South Carolina”.
I would like to ask Bill Clinton, why did he pick Jesse Jackson of all people to compare Obama to, why did he not pick John Edwards who won South Carolina, in 2004. Why didn’t Bill compare Obama’s win to John Edwards? Why did he choose instead to compare Obama’s win to Jesse Jackson who won South Carolina in 1984 (OVER 20 YEARS AGO).
Bill Clinton, like the rest of America knows what Bill was trying to say, and it was that — yes Obama won, but it’s not a big deal, remember folks 20 YEARS AGO, the other black candidate Jesse Jackson won South Carolina too –
Bill Clinton’s problem is that he has deep seated racial issues with blacks, and now he is just ###### that everyone else knows it too.

whaaa!!!!! we’re losing, whaaaaaa!!!!
=(
ps – how’s that sisterhood vote workin for ya? oh, how did you put it?… “I was stating a fact, and it’s still a fact.” So why not admit that Hillary is staying in the race simply because of her gender? Both subjets are just BS at this time in history.
If you want to play the game finger pointing game, suck it up (and stop trying to change the rules). This whole primary is messed up and we’re all getting fed up. This is why Obama wants to bring people together and not be so abrasive. We can’t accomplish anything if we have a president that has tunnel vision of “us vs them”. This “tough” attitude has to go, the whole world will continue to look down on us.

Posted by: whiner | April 22, 2008, 9:02 am 9:02 am

I have no problem with Obama being proud of his heritage. I expect more black votes to go his way because of this. Hillary has never tried to accuse Obama or anyone in his campaign of being chauvinists. There is the difference. To compound the point, Obama tries to be above the frey and say he does not use dirty campaing tricks, and that race is not a key part of his campaign.
Just because he says he is running a clean campaign does not make it a fact.
For some reason he and his supporters have a problem with facts and reality.
He has fooled many, he is delusional in some of the retorhic he gives out.
He alone is going to change Washington and Politics. Get real. This is coming from a guy that has not even submitted any sugnificant legislation since he has been a Senator, much less gotten anything passed. Just ask the Governor of Wisconsin that supported him. He drew a blank when asked that specific question. This is not a football game where everyone stands up with the wave because it is fun without knowing what they are standing up for.
Think!

Posted by: tejasoutlaw | April 22, 2008, 9:03 am 9:03 am

Obama hasn’t won anything but caucuses with the exception of one or maybe two. That is why he will not win in November if he is the nominee. He can’t carry the big states that are must wins for the Democrats. There are no caucuses in the GE.

Posted by: J | April 22, 2008, 9:06 am 9:06 am

You sure do use a whole lot of words to say nothing. Why should we give someone who has not proven to be anything more than a bag of wind a chance at presidency. He has proven nothin, and has no experience. Yes, Hillary being first lady gave her much much experience. She got to see first hand how the president should act, Bill did a wonderful job, all but the one Monica Lewinski thing, which doesnt bother me at all. Cheating goes on all the time and his wife forgave him so everyone else should to. I bet most people here know someone close that has cheated on their spouse and it was forgiven. Get over it

Bill Clinton was my first choice, in ’92. And, although I was a bit disappointed with his first term, I hung in for him in ’96. But I have learned to despise him. And I can just imagine the problems he would cause as defacto vice president. Hillary would need to get a divorce before the election, for me to consider voting for her.

Posted by: Beowulf | April 22, 2008, 9:09 am 9:09 am

Reminder…
This is a media rehashing of old news to keep the “Clinton negativity” in the spot light. And right on the Pennsylvania primary day!…mmm, I wonder why?
Let’s keep clear heads people.
Afterall, the media had six whole weeks to sit by pretty idle and keep trivial stories headliners out of pure boredom.
They’re really ready to pounce on everything and anything to make up for lost time.

Cameo (last minute) Whining Performance by Bill Clinton.

Posted by: spoon2456 | April 22, 2008, 9:17 am 9:17 am

What I heard/saw Bill say was, “Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton ran a good campaign with the black vote and still didn’t get the nomination.” He was caught on film saying this. The Clintons were fine with the African American support as long as it was for ‘them’ and their causes. When an African American decided to run for the Presidency against Hillary they dismissed him as a nuisance. Go away boy, we got this! Then along came New Hampshire and she lost the first test of the campaign and the Clinton’s got annoyed with him. But the Clinton’s still had allot of the black vote. Hillary ever so smug and cerebral comment about Martin Luther King and Bill’s comment about Jesse and Al were enough for African Americans. They had enough and defected in droves. The Clinton’s have no-one to blame but themselves. They just knew that Hillary should be winning this thing. They then went to Hispanics and starting courting them. They need another minority to carry them over. But Hispanics are not widespread and loyal to any one party. Only to themselves.

WHAT A TURN OFF! Bill and Hillary have turned me off by injecting race into this election. I really held Bill in high regard prior to this campaign, but not anymore. It seems like whatever he has done for black people and to align with black people including his office in Harlem was a prelude to Hillary’s presidential campaign – a way to draw black voters and not necessarily because he holds black people in high regards or cares about them. Integrity matters to me…

Posted by: ablackwoman | April 22, 2008, 9:23 am 9:23 am

What’s wrong with most of you? It’s freaking politics. You are taking their campaign way too personal. I agree they are messing up the party and hopefully we can get down to getting the republicans out of the white house soon. More importantly than that is getting them out of the house. I think either would do an great job.

How wonderful of ABC to put this on the front page of their internet site… So Loyal a following – and Opps! It’s April 22 – Penn Primary Day. What a coincidence! The NY press is really really showing their true trashy colors… All ABC, CBS, NBC and the rest have done is push for another Republican President in November 2008. Guess all the rich media slobs dont want their investment portfolios to pay more in capital gains tax – which by the way has nothing to do with a poor person’s paycheck! Amazing, what a joke!

Posted by: NYCStylez | April 22, 2008, 9:28 am 9:28 am

I think people hear what they want to hear. When did Barack inject race into this campaign? That would be suicide if he were only to be seen as the “black” candidate. African Americans only make up 12% of the US population. Why on earth would that be a strategy to him? Bill Clinton brought up Jesse Jackson and has not provided a valid reason for doing so. He wanted Barack to be seen as only the “black” candidate like Jesse Jackson was because he knew then Barack would have no chance of winning. Then Ferraro said Barack was lucky to be Black, which is ridiculous, he had to respond to that. They were bating him. The Clinton camp wants to make this about race because they know that’s a battle they can win.

Posted by: Carter | April 22, 2008, 9:28 am 9:28 am

Ok, so here are our choices…
McCain, although I like him better then Hill at this point, his anger and age may cause him to wake up at 3am..and push the “wrong” button. Pro war, Pro-Bush, doesn’t know much (his own admittance) about the ecomomy.
Hillary, wants to be Prez so bad she will do anything, and say anything, do you really trust her? She seems to want her agenda to be the only one and she doesn’t care who she has to step on to get it.
Obama, bright, inspiring but inexperienced.
3 millionaires fighting for a 400k job. Gas $3.50, people losing home, dying from lack of health care, WAR costing BILLIONS, education 50% dropout rate. I can’t go to London because the dollar is worth .20.
Those are the facts, so what can any of them do to get us out of this mess created by BUSH? McCain, while I respect him, just wants to be Pres. he’s never been this close before and darn it he wants it, he will also do and say anything.
Hill, she feels she deserves it based on Bill’s record.
Obama, young guy who doesn’t have to subject himself to this political nonsense, but does so because he really thinks he can change things, but is that too naive?
Think about what we have in front of us and base your opinions on that and not the personal stuff. Hill being a women won’t make my gas tank full with .50 a gallon gas, McCain’s service record won’t save a mortgage, Obama’s inpsiration won’t get my child a better education. Go to their websites, read what they say they will do and pick the one who will help us the most. The rest of this stuff is BS.

Clinton is the Race card. All of his accomplishments on the so call behalf of African Americans was all about Clinton, now he show’s how he is the Race card, why is he so frustrated. The man only helped African American’s when their was a feather for his hat. And we all are not African Americans, I’m a black American.

Posted by: Blaze | April 22, 2008, 9:31 am 9:31 am

The one thing i like about this 08 campaign is whites did not, NOT vote for obama because he was black and blacks did not cast their votes for him JUST because he is black. Obama had to really work for the African American votes. They were NOT running to the polls to cast their votes from him. Does the media really think African-Americans are sitting around waiting for a Black President? I mean really? African Americans are very cautious and brand loyal people. Hillary had their support in the beginning, again until the comments. Hillary failed to reach out. She ran her campaign on entitilement and she believed her own press clippings! What a shame. I feel Hillary is un electable in the general election because she’s a brand! She’s a household name brand and can’t beat this no name senator who spent 10 minutes in the senate and spent most of his career working for the people of Illnois! I never knew anything about Obama until now and you can’t beat him. What a shame!! The way I see it, Obama is suppose to fight hard to win this thing. He’s competing against a brand. But Hillary, you can’t win in the primaries or the general election. PA please put her out of her misery, end this thing please!!!

Mariann, it is fine for you not to think there is anything wrong with Bill’s comment, but it also fine for some black people to see the statement Bill Clinton made as an insult. And I don’t know which black people you know who are “always” complaining about racism. Your statement is an exaggeration and you know it!! Just as you know, (if you are an honest person), that racism against black people does exist in this country, and sadly it has alway existed in this country. Knowing this to be true, why should some black people not have a problem with that fact!
Marianne, You and I are both women, we know that some level of sexism exists in our society, do we as women not have the right to make a statement about that sexism when we experience in our lives, or should we just shut up, be silent!!!
I don’t think we should stay silent, and pretend it does not exist, just like I don’t think it is fair that black people should be asked to be silent about what they experience, to pretend that they don’t experience racism. It exists, and people experience it, just like people experience sexism, and homophobia everyday in this country. And denying that any of these things exist in America’s society is simply refusing to face reality.

Bill Clinton is only rooting for his wife, the whole united states of america knows everything about both of them, if they dont they have been living under a rock. very little is known about Obama and if he haden’t brought out the fact his mom is white daddy black no one would have known about it, so i think he brought out that fact from the beginning hoping that would give him a better chance of running for and getting elected, it is some screwed thought in his head, i could care less if he was purple or any color i wouldn’t vote for him because he has no experience. at least Hillary has a ace in the hole ‘Bill’, what has Obama have . a bunch of loser’s following him. Obama has played the race card from the very beginning.

Posted by: chris | April 22, 2008, 9:36 am 9:36 am

Bill should have known that and be careful for sure. The very first race card cast by Obama is framing Joe Biden to be a racist simply because Biden complemented him. Obama destroyed Biden’s campaign on the very day it started, actually never able to get started.
Talking about frustration, ask Biden about it. The phonyhypocirte Obama cannot be touched because of media’s blindness. You cannot criticize him – you are racist if you do that – and you cannot praise him – you are racist when you complement him if you are his oppenent because blacks are not clean nor articulate according to Obama. If anything Clinton is not known to be anywhere associated with racial divide, the kind of division played and used skillfully by Obama.
What has already been divided by this phonyhypocrite!

I got one for the Obama Camp. Hillary will step aside in about one month. His Holiness Barack Obama will lead the democrats as the nominee but come Novemember, 3/4 of Americans will say – I like Barack, but I want someone with experience in the Senate, in foreigh relations and someone who respects the Military – guess what, that’s not Obama. So we’ll have President McCain in 2008 – and then, 2012! Madame President…. It would work out so well.

The tactics you and Hillary use are exactly what the USA does NOT want in a leader… What part of the humanity and honesty do you NOT YET understand?

This is not even worth discussing. Bill Clinton is right on. As much as he and Hillary have done for African Americans in eight years of the White House should be commended.
I do believe they played the “race card” in South Carolina and it wasn’t the Clintons.
Anyway, African-Americans are moving a little bit better towards the Clintons in Pennsylvania. Rise Hillary Rise! You will win and we will rise with you.
The Zogby Poll has Hillary up by 10 points today!

Bill and Hillary for sure can’t be trusted. I am white and can see, what he was doing. That’s why Lewis decided to back Obama, he saw the writing on the wall. And for me, Mr Obama gets my vote. Several of us, in Lancaster was talking about how they use people, especially Blacks, We are trying to turn this race around for Obama, she needs to get out of the race! She will suprise of the outcome…heading directly to Obama. It’s a waiting game now, I will pray for Mr Obama. with hopes that people, My People will vote with a clear heart, and not look at color.

I think Obama needs to go back to his home state IL and first try and fix that state before he tries to lead a nation. IL is in great trouble with crime. Could you imagine a nation as such? Obama is too passive and naive. Hillary has tougher skin and will make a fine President. I am a Black Woman Supporting Hillary for President. Like she said we all have rummaged through her baggage which we all have. At least we know about her and where she stands. The first will be last and the last will be first. It is time for woman to stand up and show how strong we are. Race is not the issue! Hillary keep doing your thing. I will support you until you are President.

Obama came to Biden’s defense during a debate (remember?)
And I think when 90 percent of African Americans were voting for Bill Clinton, everything seemed to be just fine. Bill and Hillary have apologized to black audiences, appearing to reference S.C. Now I’m just wondering: what, precisely, were they apologizing for?

B. Clinton went in history as one of the best president (in fact). We were living la vida loca during his reign. He was always pro African American. What did he get out of them? yes you guessed id betrayal. I voted for Bill Clinton, A gore, and regretfully to John Kerry, but now along with my co-church goers (2000 members) we will vote for either HRC or JC.

Bill is correct. The Obama campaign introduced the race card. It happened after the NH primary when Jesse Jackson Jr. said Hillary’s “tears” were not for black people.

Speeches by politicians are crafted to appeal to segments of the public. So when they use race in their speeches it is not to heal but to exploit the well proven divide and rule tactic. When someone as smart as Bill Clinton says it is meant for some of us. He knows that it will resonate with some of us. I wish we will move away from being divisive and focus on healing the nation.

Posted by: worldsam | April 22, 2008, 9:50 am 9:50 am

I am a young, black, educator and minister. I’m voting for Obama not because he is black but because of his stance on the issues. Race should never be an issue, but sadly so here in America. The Clinton era was great for it’s time but we must let go of the past and look toward the future with hope.

Obama is getting people of every ethnicity to vote for him, whites, blacks, hispanics, and asians, and people of all ages, BECASUE they believe he can be a good president. Democrats are not seeing color, they are seeing a MAN who has worked in the government for 12 years, and man who speaks clearly and specifically about the solutions for the many issues facing this country, such as the economy, the war, health care, education, the environment.
People are voting for Obama because they have heard his message about getting the special interest, and lobbyist OUT of Washington, and making the focus of Washington, to work for the citizens of this country, the citizens who are working hard everyday, and paying their taxes.

Posted by: lauren | April 22, 2008, 9:52 am 9:52 am

I have read and understood what most here have written. What I do not understand is why it always comes down to “division”, and the lesser of two or more evils. McCain is a good man, but he is too old, and so I’m sorry, but I cannot trust his judgment to be sound, or to remain sound over the next four to five years, let alone eight years. My father is in that same age range, and I have seen a gradual diminishing of his grasp on reality. As such his ability to make rational decisions based on “complex-reality” is very much in question. So as much as I might wish I could, I cannot, and I will not vote for McCain. As for Hillary, well we all know who and what she is, and I agree she is not a good or desirable person on many levels. She is a liar and deceiver, and both her and Bill like to twist things to their advantage. But who is this “Obama”, I wish I could believe in his “Change”, lord knows I have tried. But in him I only see a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I see the Pide Piper. I see him as a man ready to cause the nation to explode in racial tension while he manipulates the system to promote his own personal gain. I fear he will lead the nation down a very dangerous path, from which only destruction and chaos will result. All of you must make your own decisions, and follow what you think will be best for you and the country. But I cannot trust the man as much as I wish I could. In the end I will vote for Hillary if I can, because I choose to support the “moderate” evil that I know and understand, that what I perceive as a far greater evil that is being hidden behind a smile and a lot of nice sounding words, that say “NOTHING”. If I cannot vote for Hillary, if it comes down to Obama or McCain, I will have a very difficult decision to make between a man I see as being no more than a snake oil salesman, and another who I see as a doddering old fool!!!!

You have gotta love Bill Clinton!! It is about time someone came out and stated the truth. Too often white people get called racist, andI believe it is the other way around. How dare Barack Obama plan an attack like that when Bill Clinton did more for the black community than any other president. Obama is a non experienced, over played hypocrit and I would go against my democrat beliefs and vote for John McCain over him. It is a disgrace that he has made it this far and I do not in any way mean that because of the color of his skin!

LISTEN PEOPLE! You all are so offensive and are blind to where this mess always start. From the VERY BEGINNING of this campaign, THE CLINTONS (Martin Luther King DREAM WAS NOT REALIZED UNTIL LBJ SIGNED THE CIVIL RIGHTS BILL) and their backers began the race card. Please let’s be honest. The Obama camp stated that they should keep RACE out of the campaign and focus on CAMPAIGN ISSUES. They allowed THE JOURNALISTS, PRESS AND MEDIA to push this thing where it became offensive to the AFRO-AMERICANS. Then the statement was MADE BY BILL CLINTON AFTER OBAMA WON SOUTH CAROLINA. The press asked him what did he have to say about the large win Mr. Obama won in South Carolina after he had won overwhelming when he ran. Bill stated,”Well, when Jesse Jackson ran he won the state….” You all MUST UNDERSTAND THAT Afro-Americans have wised up to the race games and DON’T BLAME THEM WHEN THEY STAND UP TO THESE TACTICS THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN. Mrs. Clinton was ahead ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES IN THE POLLS before they OPENED THEIR MOUTHS AND PUT THEIR FOOT IN IT. The Clintons actually started this mess and don’t blame Mr. Obama about it. When he did respond, he stated as JFK said, “i’m am not running as an Afro-American, but a political candidate for president of the United States of America. Please be honest and call a spade a spade and not look through eyes of PREJUDICE, PARTIALITY, RACISM, AND DISHONESTY! NO ONE WEARS A LAPEL PIN OF THE UNITED STATES FLAG ‘DAILY’. Why are they pressuring this man (MR. Obama) on such DUMB AND TRIVIA issues? They are trying to make him feel they are in control of him. Why have not they showed where Bill Clinton with Rev. Wright when he invited Rev. Wright to pray for him after he committed adultery; Why have they not showed how Rezko raised money for Bush ($300M) and the Clintons ($12+M)and how he pardoned the underground guy who was appointed 20+ yrs later to a board that Mr. Obama was on. This is a serious problem I have with the HONESTY AND FAIRNESS. You want to HOLD ONE PERSON TO A STANDARD that YOU HAVE BROKEN AND NOT CORRECTED BEFORE it was presented to me. I tell you of a TRUTH, GOD WILL SET THIS THING IN ORDER.

Remember Hillary said president LBJ was the significant person in passing civil rights and that MLK was just marching.
The Clintons lie to your face about anything whether it be sex or Bosnia.
They are like Jedi politicians who use Jedi mind tricks on weak minded people. Don’t believe this article when it says he did not realize he was on mic. He is an Oxford educated ex-President who ran many campaigns. He says everything with a purpose. He knew he was on air.

Hillary and Bill made their offensive comments on Jan 7: Bill a fairy tale and calling Obama a boy. Hill made her MLK and LBJ comment twice. She had also commented about Obama having to do the spadework.
Jesse Jackson’s comment about Katrina was made on Jan 9.

I am not black nor am I white, I’m bi-racial just like Obama. I’m nearing 60 years old and I doubt a lot of you have had to experience what I have had to growing up.
Being a person of color hasn’t determined my vote, the personalities of the candidate has and HRC is not the one I choose.
HRC is devisive and like her husband, has truly turned lying into an art form.
For those who haven’t bothered, do some ssearching on HRC’s ties to India, starting with the Senate Caucus on India. Note HRC’s comments on outsourcing; good for America? Which Americans? Certainly not the ones who are losing their jobs to outsourcing or the ones whose jobs are being taken away by workers coming into the country on H1b and Nafta visas. Also search for Easybill.
HRC has been more supportive of improving the infrastructure of India and employing anyone but Americans.

The best comment I’ve heard recently that perfectly summarizes the Clinton obsession for the White House was made by Andrew Sullivan, Senior Editor for The Atlantic, on the Chris Matthews show.
Asked whether Hillary Clinton would step aside if she ended up trailing in the number of states won, trailing in the popular vote, and trailing in the number of pledged delegates, Sullivan said simply “Gollum will never relinquish the ring.”

Posted by: Bob | April 22, 2008, 10:00 am 10:00 am

Bill Clinton is always a gentleman. Always. He was the very first president after LBJ to pay attention to the need of AA community. He gave South Carolina state $250 million before his last term end to build the housing project to poor income. He is one a few people who dedicate his time & effort to rebuild New Orleans after Katrina.
To accuse him of racist is the greatest insult anyone can swing at Bill Clinton. And it’s the most stupid and absurd for anyone to believe in that mud sling and ignore the life time deed of Bill Clinton.
In my opinion, Obama camp fabricated this accusation so people can use it as an excuse to vote for him. It’s was a good strategy because it worked. But it also shows that Obama will do anything to win this nomination.

Posted by: JoeSky | April 22, 2008, 10:03 am 10:03 am

Obama is all talk and “YES” he would not have been where he is today if he was not a black man. so it’s convenient to play the race card when applicable. Double standards as usual.

Time and time again the public allows the media to keep them on their toes and looking for ways for Hillary Clinton to win. It isn’t there.
The rules that elect the Democratic nominee is by the number of delegates won. Period. Will Obama have enough to secure the nomination? No BUT and this is the big one. He will have more. He will have won more states. He will have won the popular vote.
There are not enough contest left for Clinton to pass him in any of the 3 above.
It is the perception that have the party leaders demanding that for the good of the party the supers throw their support behind the front runner. They have already begun doing so and will continue because it is the democratic process that matters to the party. Always.
The rules will apply and the media knows this.
Polls are up daily but I did one of my own.
I went back to the contest after Super tuesday and looked at the media.
Between contests they are very supportive of Obama but within a week of each contest since then they become harbingers of doom where he is concerned and it does give Hillary the boost she needs to stay in the race. Not the money or the competent machine behind her that Obama continues to enjoy regardless of what the media does, but it allowes her to stay.
I then checked the political affliation of the major news networks and the main internet rag lists such as this one. 72% are Republican.
Every picture tells a story dosen’t it

It is a know fact that the Obama supporter played the race care right after he lost New Hampshire. It was played by Jessie Jackson Jr. on MSNBC. The wind up came on Hardball by Obama supporter Micheal Eric Dyson, when he began pushing the Tom Bradley effect. Obama supporter think all American are stupid and naive. As Farraro stated because he is an African American he is as far as he is, Obama used race in January and he is still using it now. More educates the candidate and HIS supporter are the less they to use common sense.

I can not understand how any decent person could vote for such sleaze.

OF COURSE OBAMA’S CAMPAIGN PLAYED THE RACE CARD AND ANY LOGICAL THINKING PERSON COULD SEE THAT. BILL CLINTON’S STATEMENT WAS TWISTED COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTEXT JUST SO OBAMA WOULD COME OUT ON TOP. I BELEIVE OBAMA PLAN TO USE THIS TACTIC ALL ALONG AND THAT IS WHY AS AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA!

Posted by: Neal | April 22, 2008, 10:10 am 10:10 am

I’m in Virginia and I’ve had lots of conversations with blacks regarding who they’re going to vote for and ALL of them have talked to me about each candidate’s positives and negatives. They’re concerned about the SAME issues WE ALL ARE CONCERNED ABOUT: which candidate is going to get this country back on track, bring our troops home, health care, etc. Their comments show a lot of intelligent research and thought- much more than the whites, Hispanics, Asians, etc. whom I’ve talked to. *I* initially made the stupid assumption that most blacks would be for Obama and that’s not the case at all.

Posted by: Kay | April 22, 2008, 10:11 am 10:11 am

Bill Clinton, the only Democrat elected to two terms as President since FDR, unlike Obama boosters Jimmy Carter, Teddy Kennedy, and John Kerry; Bill Clinton, a Democrat who could actually carry the big states, unlike Barack Obama, and break into the South, unlike John Kerry, is absolutely right on this point. It was obvious at the time of the South Carolina primary and it is obvious now.
The Obama campaign and a number of Clinton bashers in and out of the media found something to attack Bill Clinton with and almost incidentally to attack Hillary Clinton with. They used it even though they had to twist the incident and the comment beyond recognition, but these apostles of the “New Politics” used it.
In this campaign for the first time ever we hear that Bill Clinton is a racist. If he is such a racist, why didn’t anyone notice it over the past 50 years? Why didn’t anyone notice it all the years he spent as Governor of Arkansas? Why didn’t anyone notice it during his two terms as President?
President Clinton is absolutely right. Candidate Obama and his surrogates are absolutely wrong – and they know it.

Maybe, just maybe, both Hillary AND Obama are good politicians who both bring something to the table. Just because they are running against each other doesn’t mean that one is evil and one is good. That’s a short-sighted, immature and unwise way of seeing things. The question isn’t who’s the worst, its who’s the best. I vote Obama because he fits the bill for America’s current state and for where we need to be in the future. Thats not to say that if Hillary wins Revelations will begin to play out either….

It seems that Hillary and Bill are still living in the 90′s. They’ve held that dream for over a decade to be back in the white house. But I’m sorry Clintons, this is 2008, time for a change and you all are not part of that change. Move over, already because your campaign tactics are wack and old. I was around when the Clintons became the first family, but that was then. Obama’s not winning because he is black, Obama’s is winning because he’s unique and different.

Also – i dont think Obama ever called either of the Clintons’ “racist” – In fact, Clinton’s team jumped the gun and tried to say that Obama would be using the race card after Bill made that statement. At that point Obama had not even said the word race…the clinton team probably expected that to happen though, but they expected wrongly.

I find it pure comedy that people continue to say that black ppl are voting for Obama simply b/c of his skin color. But for laughs, lets say this is true. If thats the case, since we’re making wide ranging assumptions, anybody white voting for McCain is simply casting their vote for him b/c he is white!!! How about that? Wait, no you say?! It’s more than that?! What a novel idea then, that maybe ppl are casting their ballot for Obama based on a little bit more than his skin tone. Wide ranging assumptions can go both ways. Remember that one…

The reason the republicans ie. Cindy McCain wants the nomination process to go on is because the longer it goes on the more people learn about Obama and the fact that he is unelectable. Do you really think you have heard all the dirt on Obama? You havn’t heard half of it. The republicans are trying to win this nomination for Obama because they know if he does get the nomination they can then bring out the real dirt on him and walk away with 4 more years. Open your eyes.

the main reason African Americans are voting for Obama is because there are two choices and the other choice insulted the hell out of them by playing the race card first. (give me a break) thanks to the media we are having a non-discussion about the most serious decision we have to make in this democracy. first Barack wasn’t black enough, then they made him the black candidate, now he is back to being elite. all this discussion is over nothing, doesn’t solve a single problem, and just turns people off. the reason Barack will win is because by and large, inspite of our individual racisms, most of us want to move ahead as a UNITED nation, we want to be integrated, we want to get along, we want to make intelligent choices about the future and change the mindset that has turned our politics so sour. fortunately or unfortunately, whatever the case may be, the majority of people who post divisve blather on these websites are members of the minority who either profit from keeping us divided or are unwittingly duped into doing their bidding. most of us know better, and this time around we will take back the power. the Clinton years was a feel good era when it was easy to gloss over our problems. these times are different, our problems more severe and require a deeper commitment to leadership and even more importantly, citizenship. yes we can, and yes we will

Posted by: chris | April 22, 2008, 10:21 am 10:21 am

Again, flipping Hillary the finger and the media did nothing. Is this the man we want as leader of this nation?
He wants to “talk” to terrorist… What?
Once you start talking to terrorist you start opening a very bad door… terrorist groups or would be terrorist group will grow if countries start negotiating with them, and it will give them the reason to believe that terrorist activities will indeed help them suceed with their quest. Ex-president Carter is talking to the Hamas group and you know Obama is behing this… after all the Hamas group publically supports him. What kind of change is this man planning??

Obama is no good. why doesan’t he come clean about his past. instead he never answers any questions when things are brought out about him. why dont he acknowledge he was in the million man march with Louis Farrakhan the Islam leader. and the speech Bill Clinton gave. about cleaning up your house of racism..blacks and whites alike. Bill and Hillary are no racist.. the Obamas are.. Obama thinks he’s slick..well appearently he is at some point because he sure is doing a snow job on a lot of people. then there is some of us that dont buy into his garbage. Frankely I dont see the point of Bill Clinton having to defend his actions he is not running for President. and he’s done a hell of a lot for the black people. just ask the Rev.Manning. Bill Clinton has been a fair man to everyone during his time of President.

This is just attempting to stir the pot.
It’s a bit obvious that Bill wouldv’e thought the race card was played by the Obama camp so this is pretty much old news being thrown out there for no reason whatsoever. It would be nice if Bill would get over it but it’s pretty hard to do when people continue to ask or bait you on it.

Obama will be the Democratic nominee for President of the USA. It would be nice if the contest could finish tonight in PA. Yet, regardless of the outcome, whether the race ends or continues, the odds all strongly favor Obama to be the nominee. That is when the real fun begins. Hence, all of the networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, FOX, etc.) should realize that their ratings will instantly quintipple the moment the race between Obama and McCain begins. It will begin very civil, at first, with both candidates focused on the issues, with the first repudiations of surrogates coming from McCain as he realizes he is losing on the issues that he supports but that American majority do not support, as his swift boat 527s circle about and make the first small blunder. Behind in the polls and sinking, McCain and the Republicans will be the first to go negative. Yet, Obama will become even more positive expressing a calm tone of HOPE! As America and the polls shift quickly to Obama, McCain will quickly realize that he is supported only by the far right wing christians (who don’t fully support him now, but will fly to him out of fear of their new black President of the USA) and the NEO CONs, who want to bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran. And, just like that, it will be a second round knockout for Obama as McCain hits the canvas, totally…and I mean totally, for the full 10 count!!!!!!!!!! Obama and his beautiful wife will prevail in a landslide as the new president and first lady. Obama will make a real change in the tone at the top, a paradigm shift from the current administration, with its secret prisons. By surrounding himself with a cabinet of intelligence and judgment, coupled with experience, they will lead America back to its proper standing in the world, and, will use economic policies that will bring down our national debt, to a level bearable for our future generations. LETS GET ON WITH THE GENERAL ELECTION…OBAMA VS MCAIN>>>> OBAMA 08>>> YES, WE CAN!!

ryan: I don’t think by Obama being in the same Church with Rev Wright should be a litmus test for the highest office of the land. Rev Wright’s word are his words not Obama’s. You should condemn Rev Wright not Obama for those words.
A Black Man running for the Presidentcy and getting this far is something new on the American scene. Blacks have heard it all before regarding not being worthy of anything. Rev Wright words are another block in the road to progress.
Obama all the way!

Bill is absolutely correct. I have seen this from the very get go. Obama has played the race card from the very beginning realizing that it is a trigger topic that is ultra sensitive in america and will play well with those white voters who are looking to prove and wash away their white guilt. I am non-white and have been very disturbed that a man who claimed to be a unifying was the very master at injecting race and racism into the election in order to benefit from it. This is dirty politic at its worse and the Obama supporters have all been bambozzled into a blind devotion.

Bill Clinton has by far been the worst presidential candidate spouse ever. He just simply cannot shut his freakin’ mouth. Almost every time he’s opened his mouth during this campaign, something has come out of it that just messes up HRC. She really needs to muzzle the dude. His time has passsed, and he just can’t stand not being the center of attention. He, above all else, has really messed everything up for HRC. She would have had a clean path to the nomination if Bill could have just laid low and kept off the radar screen.

Posted by: J. T. Bigglesworth | April 22, 2008, 10:36 am 10:36 am

The only ones that perceived former President Clinton’s factual comparison between the black voter turnout and vote between Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama in South Carolina were themselves bigots and racists. Former President Clinton is correct in his assertions that the Obama camp has used the race card. I guess only whites are racists and bigots? If some are delusional that either of the Clintons, their staff and supporters are racists and bigots, then the same must be said about either of the Obamas, their staff and supporters. The Obama camp can’t have it both ways.

While there are certainly admirable qualities about Senator Clinton, I personally could never vote for someone who says “screw the white southerners”…there were witnesses to that, no question about it! And there has been no one (caught) who disgraced the Whitehouse the way Bill did. And thats a fact!

Hillary is way to divisive to ever be a good president. we need someone who will lead in a way that will bring us closer together as a nation.
i know Barack Obama, he knows my family, he is a good man who is risking his life at our (the country’s) behest to try to make a positive difference in this world.
he is racist? give me a break. he was raised by a single white mother. his wife is African American. do you honestly think he is racist? based on what? frustration in the African American community that Rev Wright expresses? Should I hate Barack Obama because I might disagree with some of his other supporters? How many votes would anybody get if they had to agree 100% on every issue. Barack’s very strength is that he can bring people together from different mindsets so we can face the challenges of our times. Let’s reach together for the dreams we all share
i dont know why i bother posting on these pages when it ends up being a name calling match. lets feed and educate our children. lets care for our elderly, secure our borders and our future. lets work with our neighbors and leave the world better than we found it. does any of this discussion lead us there? if not, it, like this article and the interview that initiated it, all a big waste of time and energy. back to the future, (stupid) …. hehehe. i’ll see you there

I would love to see a woman in the White House but not with what we having running this year.

Posted by: Oklabelle | April 22, 2008, 10:49 am 10:49 am

Well said, Bill Clinton! As a close observer of this campaign from the beginning, every opportunity the Obama campaign had to create a wedge, they did. They played the race card on Hillary’s remarks about MLK, they played the race card on “fairytale” remarks, they played the race card on “Jesse Jackson” remarks, they played the race card on Geraldine Ferraro’s historical assessment, and have acted wounded by any honest observation of the campaign. They have done it to ignite their AA base. On top of that, they have put extreme pressure on any blacks supporting Hillary. So, a big context of this campaign is about race, because they have made it so.
There is no better person than Bill Clinton to make this observation. We know how he and Hillary have led the way in creating opportunities for African Americans to make progress in education and opportunities in government. He is absolutely correct in his assessment. His ending expletive, given when he thought the audio was off, was mild. I would have said much worse. It is a #!%-*$! shame that some are so blinded by their pied piper that they cannot see reality.

Clinton is right. The Obama campaign has been playing the card all along.
Problem is, elitist pundits are so anxious to cleanse their hands of their ancestors sins of slavery, they go along with the Obama campaign.

Posted by: TP | April 22, 2008, 10:54 am 10:54 am

Bill is incredible. The Clintons introduced race into the debate. They’ve nurtured the argument of race in the debate and since it’s blown up in their faces are blaming Obama. That’s just plain sad.

Senator Barack Obama has apparently avoided being questioned by the traveling press pool for nearly two weeks now. Why? When asked questions on the road, in diners, etc, by the press, he scolds them and tells them that he “just wants to eat his waffle”. This man is extremely defensive and weak. When a man is defensive, it is because he is fundamentally insecure about his answers. More and more, Barack Obama reminds me of President George W. Bush. And that is not a compliment.

I agree with President Clinton. I also believe that Obama/Axelrod played the race and gender card against Geraldine Ferraro. They got a twofer…unjustly called her a racist and got to attack the only woman on a National ticket. Shame on them.
Here is a direct quote from an article written by Chicago Tribune reporter Jeff
Zeleny, June 26, 2005:
“Obama acknowledges, with no small irony, that he benefits from his race.
If he were white, he once bluntly noted, he would simply be one of nine freshmen senators, almost certainly without a multimillion-dollar book deal and a shred of celebrity. Or would he have been elected at all?”

Posted by: Kathy Corey | April 22, 2008, 10:56 am 10:56 am

‘merican – Obama “defended” Biden on debate because Obama had already destroyed Biden and Biden is no longer a threat to him in the primaries.
Furthermore, that 90% blacks voted for Clinton was a choice between Clinton and Bush, or Clinton and Dole. They, blacks, voted Jesse Jackson over Clinton – did you just happen to forget about it?
You think 90% of one race voted for his race is not racism?

Bill Clinton may have had several missteps recently, but he makes a lot of sense here. Obama is bothersome. He mentioned that Wright behaves the way he behaves because of his old way of thinking. But he purposely forgot to mention his wife Michelle who clearly has the same feeling as her pastor because of her thinking also however newer.

Talk about the truth. There were only a handful of papers that wrote articles about this topic after it kind of faded away. But Bill is completely correct. Especially when he said “Obama’s voting record on the war in Iraq is a fairy tale,” which then turned into by Michelle Obama “My husbands campaign isn’t a fairy tale. Then that spinned into Obama campaign isn’t a fairy tale, because he is a black man. I mean come on. Obama has been playing the race card all along. I am a bi-racial male and there hasn’t been anything more obvious this election that Obama playing the race card. Bill Clinton is 100% correct!

Bill messed up big time and knows it. Blacks including myself where behind the Clintons and remembering the Clinton years. Obama was an unknown and couldn’t get the black support he needed. Hillary made the MLK and LBJ comparison then Bill made the Jessie Jackson SC comparison. He knew that comparing Obama to Jessie Jackson was a put down because of the way Jackson thinks. Why would it make sense for Obama to remind white America that he is just another Black candidate when he knows that wouldn’t get him any votes or support. Obama is winning because of white support as well as Black support. No Black person in their right mind wants to remind people they are black to think that would give them an advantage in America. Bill knew what he was doing and it back fired big time. It may have costs Hillary the nomination. If she steals it, it will be a hollow victory because she can’t win without the black vote. If Hillary wins fair she has my vote. I am not so bitter that I would vote for McCain so he can finish bankrupting America.

I am white, and I have never voted for a Republican. But no way will I ever vote for another Clinton. Both played the race card, trying to paint Obama as the “black” candidate. In a private business not funded by government or not for public office, that is fine but in a public arena to have to deal with both a powerful husband and his wife is torture. I have worked for bosses whose wives were also around in the work place and it was very uncomfortable and unfair. For goodness sake stop the dynasties and the power couples from making an uneven playing field for their opponents and rid the US of this menace.

It’s unfortunate that Bill Clinton, like many Americans, is unable to recognize the fact that two men and one woman continue in the race for the whitehouse, instead of a black man, a white man and a woman. The need to continually insert the color or gender of the individual only reinforces the fact that the speaker has not been able to move beyond race or gender as a factor in ones ability to face and handle the real issues facing Americans. While the Clinton’s, Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter and others continue to use tactics reminiscent of Lee Atwater, to polarize, divide and conquer; tactics practiced by a mentor of Hillary Clinton, Saul Alinsky; Senator Obama has been one able to move beyond this stereotyping and include all Americans, regardless of color of skin or gender. Senator Obama has exhibited strength of character and the ability to address Americans as one, only visiting the issue of race when forced to do so. This character, along with the continual pummeling of distorted half-truths, innuendo’s and spin by individuals such as Limbaugh and Hannity, designed to polarize Americans, has resulted in many, such as myself, to move beyond the rhetoric of daily mainstream media and search for answers off the beaten path. This journey has culminated in the realization that Senator Obama, despite his minor misgivings, is the only one remaining in this race who is right for America, and the world. I can only pray that many other Americans come to this realization, just as Lee Atwater did in his final moments, recanting tactics of using negatives to drive and perpetuate fear. Confronting death, Atwater, through the grace of God, became an advocate of the politics of love and reconciliation, rather than one who polarized and exploited insecurities and prejudices to win elections. Unlike Atwater, let’s not wait till our final moment.

Nobody that knows history thinks either Bill or Hillary are racists and Obama has never said or intimated that they are. All that happened is that Bill wanted to diminish the impact of Hillary’s South Carolina loss so he compared it to Jackson’s victory. That comparison was primarily based on race since there were no other real similarities and it was intended to stress the racial divide in the voting. This is called playing the race card. Let’s not try to rewrite history. I still don’t know whether it has worked to the Clinton’s advantage or disadvantage. I certainly hurt their support among African-Americans but it’s hard to tell whether the race element has helped with white voters in certain race-sensitive states like Ohio and Pennsylvania.

If Hillary wins big in PA, I am voting for her in NC and I am black!
Somehow, Obama is wounded with Jeremiah Wright badly and I don’t see the Jewish and Catholics going for him again after his comments!
I will decide based on today’s primary!
But one thing the media must end this racial divide now!
Democrats need a winner in November, who cares if Obama gets the nomination and looses to McCain in November!

I was also surprise to see that there were no Obama signs out front of the polling place, when most of my neighbors are obama supporters. I jsut pray that everything went fair and well for the voters no matter who they voted for.

Compare what Bill has done for the African American community to what Barack’s. I cannot put my finger on anything other than working as community organizer but that pales in comparison. He is also going about trashing Bill’s record in the 90s which everyone admits made a lot of people millionaires in this country. What has Barack to offer other than speeches and lofty ideas which we have to take a gamble on. I have no clue which corporation would hire someone with a thin resume to be its CEO?

I saw few black fellows posts here, they may vote for Hillary in NC if she wins big in PA, I hope they do and slam the media!
We all kniow Obama can not win after America saw his judgement , listening his pastor for 20 years~! Than he called whites , typical white person, than he called the middle class bitter!
It is impossible for Obama to beat a moderate republican John McCain!

I wonder how many times have Bill shot off his mouth, frankly. And how come Bill hasn’t been assigned to the back of the bus? Don’t Hillary realise that the more Bill talks, the more he damages her own prospects?

Posted by: SpinSpinSpin | April 22, 2008, 11:56 am 11:56 am

Here in Georgia, Rep. John Lewis (D-black superdelegate) was publicly pressured (at his friend’s funeral no less) by other black leaders to change his endorsement from Clinton to Obama, as this was the “will of the people.” In Massachusets, however, no such pressure was placed on Senators Kennedy and Kerry, both who endorsed Obama even though Clinton won the primary there.
Hmmm…. Double standard?

Good for President Clinton. He was asked the question and he answered it. And as a Democrat, I’m glad somebody FINALLY called the Obama campaign (and the media) on playing the race card against the Clintons.
I can understand why the people who caused the backlash don’t want to talk about it. But in the real world, even people who were not fond of the Clintons are thinking, “Good grief! If they can call BILL CLINTON a “racist”, NOBODY is safe from that kind of false judgement.”
Obama’s playing the race card was smart politics in the caucus states, but on-the-ground Democrats have been trying to tell them for months — it’s going to snap ‘em in the *** in the General Election.

+++++++++++
The question is WHY??++++++++++
I believe there are a lot of controversies that he doesn’t want to answer very much like pleading the “fifth amendment”. He refuses the answer the question the grounds that it will incriminate him. For one, the lie about the GUN CONTROL questionnaire where his handwriting appeared which he denied.+++++
Sen Obama is not concerned with change, he is concerned with just winning the presidency at all cost.

If Hillary is not the nominee, I pray that Hillary will run as a third party candidate because she is a better candidate than either McCain or Obama. Using the race card against Bill Clinton wasn’t the first time the Obama camp has used it, and it certainly won’t be the last. They will use any means necessary to divert attention from Rev. Wright, Bill “the bomber” Ayers, Meeks, Rezko, and every other racist, radical, or crooked gangster possible. They would do anything to shift the real blame, and manipulate PA voters. It won’t work.

I strongly feel that Hillary Clinton has the potential of even exceeding his greatness as President. When we get Hillary we’ll get Bill. That’s 2 for the price of one and the good they can and will do for this country during Hillary’s Presidency will be not only historical, it will be monumental. We need the greatness they have to offer. Our economy needs it and our young men and women dying in Iraq desperately need their greatness.

Well, it looks like “Slick Willie” is at it again. Riling up everybody, bringing alive the race card, and then saying it was Obama who did it. He told them to ask that question just so he could use it one more time to deceive the Pa. voter. The white voters that is. He then twists it and says he never meant that or said that. What a lying idiot he is, and anybody who believes him is an idiot too. He and Hillary are just alike, two peas in a pod. They are so desperate to win they will do anything. Im voting for Obama, because I want to be friends with the world, not enemies. Peace and OBAMA 08!!

Bill is absolutly correct. Blacks are voting for Obama more for his color than anything else..
MyAudacity: I am Black, and I’m curious as to how you could possibly know why I am supporting Obama. Why is it possible that for all the years I have supported White Male candidates because of their platforms can NOT be the same reason I am supporting Obama. The fact that he is of mixed race and I am not leads me to believe that people can not look beyond the color of his skin, nor be bothered to see his intelligence because they are blinded by racial hatred. Anyone with a brain can see that Bill is pulling another publicity “victim” stunt. What is sad is that it is people will fall for it. I’m constantly pray that God does not allow such evil motives to prevail.
Posted by: Rick Bill’s comment is far less offensive than the “Typical White Person” comment by OBAMA and the white thrashing that happens every sunday in Obama’s church and many such churches across the country.
MyAudacity: I explained this remark to my sister by reminding her that Obama was never raised in a traditional African American home. He did not have the benefit of a Black Father or Black Mother……His mother was white, his step-father was Indonesian, and eventually he lived with his white grandparent’s……so, I actually found it quite funny…..because to him he spoke the “truth”, his grandmother was typically white……because as far as he knew, that is the way white people thought.
Now, if such a comment would have come from a person who had been raised in an African American home, then I would agree that it would seem to be a racial stereotype, (just as you did earlier when you presumed to know why African American’s were voting for Obama)because, my remark would have been based upon my opinion, and not on the facts of my personal life having lived with 2 white women.

Posted by: MyAudacity | April 22, 2008, 12:45 pm 12:45 pm

Until Obama came along, Bill Clinton was known as the black man’s president. Somehow though Bill was turned into a racist. Who did that benefit? Just like Obama gave a speech on race because of Rev. Wright. While the speech was good, it really had nothing to do with why Obama listened to Wright and then lied about what he heard. Obama and Michelle play the race card when it works to their advantage. That’s politics and Obama is no different from any other politician.

The saddest part of this Democratic primary will come after The Republicans destroy Obama in the general, if he gets it. Yes, he’s inspirational, and all the kids are swooning… But he was in office for 1 year, prior to running for President. After 8 years of the worst President in US history, do you really want to put your faith in a rookie? Anyone who thinks he will “change” Washington, has their head in the clouds. Continue swooning & “hoping”, but be prepared for a big let-down. And more of the same. There will be no denying it, unfortunately. PS ~ “change” will happen no matter who becomes President.

The Clintons have spent a lifetime standing up for the rights and betterment of the AA community. It is a disgrace that they have been abandoned for this poser, Obama, who is afraid to go to AA events where he can have his picture taken with large groups of AA’s, thereby being seen as the “black” candidate. When will the AA community see they are nothing but pawns in a grab for political power.

There have been other Black candidates in the past, and they have not received the same support as Senator Obama. The Obama camp played the race card when right after New Hampshire they twisted Hillary’s words about LBJ and MLK, which was made in reference to rhetoric versus actual legislation. This tact will not work for Obama in the general election and based on how the electoral map looks right now, he and his supporters had better not beat a dead horse with this latest attack on the Clintons. Bill and Hillary and not racists. I’m not so sure about Barrack and Michelle.

Bottom line. The Clintons are low-class, lying, cheating, self-serving, manipulative opportunists.
They LOVED black people when they got their vote. Now they’ve turned against them to court the uneducated, bigoted, working class white vote.
They LOVED “moveon” when the group defended Bill Clinton. Hillary CHASED AFTER their endorsement, but when she lost it, she turned against them, too.
Of course, they HATED the Pittsburgh-Trbune Review, whose owner/publisher Richard Mellon, led the RNC charges against Bill Clinton while he was president, but now they LOVE Mellon, because they cut a deal with him to get his endorsement.
Disloyal. Dishonest. Disgusting!

I think Bill Clinton’s words speak for themselves. He did more for blacks, had appointed more blacks to his cabinet than any previous president before him. Now he’s being painted a racist? He asked Jesse Jackson if he thought so and Jackson said “no”. Jackson supports Obama but his wife and son support Hillary. Do you think Jesse Jackson’s wife and son would support racists??? Why is the media continuing this non-story? Why aren’t they doing their jobs and talking about a re-vote for the people of Florida and Michigan? If these people don’t get the chance to vote and the will of the people is subverted, there better not be any cries of “foul” and “unfair” when the superdelegates subvert the will of the popular vote and go for the candidate most likely to beat McCain (in those states where Democrats can actually win)…Hillary Clinton.

President Clinton is right. This entire race thing was started in the media and played up by the Obama campaign.
Honestly, the candidate who fit inn with the needs of the black community was John Edwards. He has been in New Orleans the entire time building homes. He has been fighting for housing in New Orleans. In 2004, John Edwards swept South Carolina.
He is now out of the race. He has become a better person than he was in 2004 yet he came in 3rd in South Carolina. He lost to Obama.
Obama won the black vote by 97%. Anyone that tells you that was not because he is a black man is just plain stupid and does not deserve to be commenting on this political race.
Hillary is winning the women’s vote because she is a woman. It is no big deal. But we are so politically correct in this country that we fear to state the obvious.
Who cares. But let’s call it what it is.
President Clinton was right. Look at the facts. Read the comments in full.
Time for Americans to stop forming opinions based on headlines and soundbites. Get the facts.
If Americans were interested in the facts, Obama would have been out of this race months ago.

If you can say blacks are voting for Barack because he’s black….
I can say whites are voting for Hillary RIGHT NOW in rural Pennsylvania becaue she is white.
Is there any difference?
It cuts both ways. Not something to be proud of either way…
Attribute it all to the cogenital birth defect of America SLAVERY. I bet some of the bloggers don’t know that our illustrious goverment of master thinkers once regarded a black person as 3/5ths of a person. How brilliant.

Wasn’t Bill impeached? Wasn’t he declared the first black President? Didn’t Hillary say “No whiners in the White House”? Wait until the Republicans get a hold of you Clintons when Hillary wins the democratic nomination. Does America know about Bill Clinton having the retired Air Force I or II remodeled to look like a McDonalds for his daughter to travel in. All at the tax payers expense. Don’t think for a minute I am making this up, I saw it at the Raytheon plant in Texas. I stumbled on it while having a meeting there. I was whisk away by security to told not to talk about it. But not before I got to talk to some of the people working on it.

I don’t think anyone called the President a “racist”. However, his comment was deemed to “racial” in its comment. This is politics. They play the game better than anybody. But when the game is reversed on them, then they cry foul. Bill (as every politician) should know “anything you say can and will be used against you”.
BTW – I resent that fact that people state African Americans are voting for Senator Obama just because he’s black. If you remember at the start of this race, most people felt he wasn’t “black enough”. And BTW, it was Iowa (a mostly white state), that propelled him into contention.

Dave’s comment: “Obama will divide this country far worse than any right wing Republican ever could. A vote for Obama means a vote for a step backwards!”
I have news for you, Dave. This country was already divided. It has always been “the white world and the black world”. Obama has been working very hard to unify the people of this great America. Granted, blacks and whites are different in philosophical ideas, so there will always be differences between us. We most begin to respect the differences and move on to the more important issues. Right now, we are all suffering from a poor economy; a needless war; and barely sign of a prosperous future for our children. It appears that some folks want to keep America divided. Don’t be foolish – strength is in numbers, in individual colors. For instance, if you mix the colors yellow and green, you get a unique color. If you keep them seperate, they are JUST yellow and green. Why do you think the Crayola company is so successful? They dared to mix colors to come up with more vibrant colors! Think about it….

So Hillary doesn’t know that video cameras exist, and Bill doesn’t know that tape recorders exist. He denies he says that in an interview, when all we have to do is listen to it. The two of them are mind-boggling in their ability to lie, and then blame their lies on someone else.

Posted by: nanc | April 22, 2008, 1:07 pm 1:07 pm

I used to have a lot of respect for Bill–but it seems like every time he’s in front of a mic or camera he’s got this ultra-cockiness that appears.
The Obama campaign may have commented, but I never heard any negative comments they made in response. I heard about the story through news websites like ABC news, and Bill’s statement alone was enough to upset me. Obama didn’t have to say anything about it.
All Bill has to say is that he didn’t realize people were going to feel insulted by those comments and that he was in no way comparing Obama to Jesse Jackson…He could then go on to say that Jackson really did win SC. However, Bill just gets cranky everytime it’s brought up. He keeps damaging his wife’s campaign–every time he opens his mouth!! A lot of black people (I’m black) were originally going to vote for Hillary, but Bill keeps making these stupid comments. Shut up!

Posted by: in2itively | April 22, 2008, 1:09 pm 1:09 pm

Bill did more for blacks? thats a vast misconception. He passed the three strikes policy and built more prisons and cracked down on crack cocaine harder than powdered and there was a vast sentencing disparity. alot of his polices also worked in opposition to blacks especially in unions. bill himself has said that he regrets passing alot of those bills

Excellent post, Nickberry!
As usual, racism takes center stage, but misogyny is on the back-burner. The irony is that Bill isn’t a racist, but many of Obama’s cohorts are. As for sexism, it’s been running rampant, and largely unchecked, during this presidential primary.
I have every confidence that PA voters know what’s really going on.
HILLARY, YES WE WILL!!

Bill Clinton is correct. He has done so much for the African American community, and it is disappointing that many young people are not aware of this or dismiss if for Obama’s empty suit and empty rhetoric, oh and of course skin color.
Obama has run a dirty campaign from the start.

Posted by: Tim | April 22, 2008, 1:12 pm 1:12 pm

Obama started the race card when hillary said he is just words. With many quotes from the bible, constition, bill of rights, ect… he chose to invoke MLK suggesting bill said MLK was just words (race card…Like it has been stated by many blacks, they detect race issues where non-blacks do not. Bill never said ” a black man bening president is a fairy tail” He said obama has not been fighting the war from the begining. obama never offered to clear this up, he played the race card. Why does he sound more “street” when he speaks to black groups?

Posted by: words | April 22, 2008, 1:12 pm 1:12 pm

People can say what they want about the Clintons but at the end of the day, add up all the good they have done for this Country and compare it to Obama’s giving. The President has spent a lot of his retirement, trying to make lives better in Africa and other places as well as in this Country. If people will care to actually read about about the Clintons, they will see they have devoted a lot of their time trying to help others.
Obama’s people have been the most racially labeling people of any. Anything, anyone said about Obama was turned into something that had an anti racial context. People were saying we all needed to learn how to speak to black people differently. We can’t say they are clean cut, good looking, etc. In other words, we can’t even compliment a black the same way we do a white or else you are a racist. Well, what is good for the white brothers should be good for the black brothers. I don’t think saying a person won a state because of a certain race when they say Hillary wins because she is a female and got the female vote or so and so because they got white male vote. Obama and his people have been so hung up on people’s words and branding them as racist, I can’t understand how anyone could vote for him. Just him being too lazy to either get rid of the Pastor or move to another church make me not want to vote for him because for 20 years he brought no change in his life, just stayed with the hate filled, Country hating Rev.

Posted by: Mickey | April 22, 2008, 1:12 pm 1:12 pm

Yes… the Obama campaign jumped on Bill Clinton… Their surrogates were ubiquitous on the news after the South Carolina election. They inundated the media with memos and conference calls. The Obama campaign played the “race” card against both Bill and Hillary Clinton when they both said NOTHING at all racist, but rather stated facts that would have remained innocuous without the Obama “spin.”

Fairnews08: Just having “the most experience” does not make a person qualified to represent the people of this country. There are other qualities that Hillary has not demonstrated and Barack has, such as the ability to bring people together for a common goal; excellent judgement; trustworthiness; honesty; good morals, etc. Hillary has not displayed any of these much needed qualities for the position of POTUS. She is a fraud and a phoney, just like her husband, John McCain, and the Bushies.

Are you kidding? Is that why Richard Mellon is backing Hillary now, because he saw the light? Is that why John McCain wants Hillary to win, because he knows she will beat him? John McCain is salivating at the chance that he will face Hillary, mark my word, if she gets the nomination (which I doubt) the Republicans will think it’s the 90s and Ken Starr is back in town, they will drag up all kinds of dirt on the Clinton’s. And I for one do not want to go through this bull again; what a horrible time for politics. What a horrible time for Democrats. Posted by: lonnie2 | April 22, 2008, 1:19 pm 1:19 pm

I’ll be the first to admit that Blacks are voting for him because he is black. But to say that is why he is winning is just asinine, and this is why. First blacks only make up 12%(men women and people UNDER the voting age) of this country so even if all blacks are voting for him that is still a relatively small number. Second, half of blacks that are of age aren’t even registered to vote or even have an idea what it means to vote in the primaries. Third, 10% percent of blacks registered to vote are Republican. So when you say that 90% percent of the registered voters are voting for Obama, that number is very very small. So to all the people that are saying that he’s in this race because he’s black are ALL MORONS, and are looking for an excuse for how this man is doing so well in this country. So where are all of his votes coming from? Its the White Americans that are not stuck in the civil rights days. Its the White Americans that don’t think that blacks just eat watermelon and chicken all day. Its the White Americans that see this man as an equal not as beneath them. Its the White Americans that are going to help this country move forward not backwards. Just because a man is black doesn’t make him a criminal, or a gangster, or most importantly imcompetent.

Wow, when I first read this I was infuriated with Bill for diverting the attention back to this the day before the PA primary, but then I actually clicked the link that took me to the radio site and listened to the interview with Bill for myself. You “journalists” took a few lines from his answer and twisted it around. What President Clinton said was true – Obama has been playing the race card the entire campaign. How else do you explain 90% of African Americans voting for Obama, even though the Clintons have a proven record of fighting and working on behalf of civil rights their entire lives? Obama didn’t go to the State of the Black Union in New Orleans (Hillary did) and also chose not to go to Memphis to honor the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination (which both Mccain and Hillary did). This shows the arrogance from him that has been getting more and more brazen as if to say, “I already have the black vote, no need to appeal to them anymore, they are undeniable behind me so why bother?”

To all of you how believe Bill is the reason the economy did so well, you need to go to school and take an economics class. It was the policies of Bush senior that allowed the economy to thrieve. A third term for the Clintons wont bring the economy back in fact their failed policies like NAFTA will only make it worse. I love the way Hillary takes credit for all of the positive parts of Bills presidency while distancing herself from the negatives. Look they are both liars. Bill was impeached for it and Hillary has spent her entire campaighn doing it. If you really want to know what her presidency would be like look at the past twelve years. The last honest president we had was Bush Senior. Vote Obama or McCain at least they know how to tell the truth.

Incredible that Obama supporters can ignore recent polling in Massachusetts that says – Obama can’t win this reliably Democratic state.
One of the reasons speculated (but I don’t believe it’s the only one), we’ve had the experience of another Axelrod INVENTED candidate, Deval Patrick, now our governor. He’s useless. Read the article posted above for more details.

I’ve always believed that Bill and Hillary are running as co-presidents. After reading some of the comments here I find it amusing that many of Hillary’s supporters are those who support her as a surrogate for Bill since he cannot run again. Heck, I voted for Bill twice and would never vote him again or his wife. He disgraced the office of the presidency and disgraced his wife. And their behavior (both of them) since the beginning of this campaign has been a disgrace filled with blatant political manueverings, theatrics, and mis-truths. The Clintons begat GWB and nominating Hillary will only re-invigorate Republicans. Wake up folks! Bill left in disgrace in 2000 for a reason…As for the economy being better under Clinton there are many reasons for that. I will give Clinton credit that he didn’t screw things up like GWB.

After the SC primary Bill was asked why does it take two Clintons to beat one Obama. He turned to the reporter and said Jessie won SC in 1984 and 1988,Jessie ran a good campaign and Obama ran a good campaign. He failed to ans the reporter’s question, instead decided to inject the race card, implying Jessie was black and won SC(with a 51% electorate black pop)so no big deal Obama won it was expected playing down his victory.
Ted Kennedy endoresed Obama shortly after that, saying the same thing happened to his brother only it was based on him being catholic. Bill Clinton is right. It was a part of the Obama game plan from the beginning: to ignite the AA base by claiming racial slurs. It certainly worked to get the majority of the AA votes. Why does he not get all of them? Some people know the truth, and cannot be fooled by empty rhetoric. Too many make choices based on soundbites from the biased media. Others pay attention to the entire story from beginning to end. They read and listen.

The coment by Bill is an historical fact and nothing more. I saw Jesse Jackson was asked within hours of the comment and he said “No” not racist but then Obama began his spin and the media got right on board. I am really enjoying the Democrats eating their young. They can’t hide behind “helping blacks” when they are really keeping blacks down while giving the message that the white people know what is best for blacks and the white people will provide for blacks. They tried to do that to women, but it didn’t work. We can stand on our own, thank you very much. Just get out of the way, and let freedom ring.
And as long as Bill is around, Hillary doesn’t have to worry about what to wear to the inaugural ball.
And Hillary, you are the only one saying that Pennsylvania is the “one” you need to win. First, it was one state. Then another. The date and state keeps getting later and later. You keep moving the bar, and for whatever reason, some people are buying it.

I’ve said all along that way back in North Carolina Obama’s campaign chose to play the race card. I saw them start to do it on MSNBC right after New Hampshire. In fact it was the first thing that turned me away from Obama. Lately though I’ve found piles of reasons I can’t ever support him. So YES absolutely, the race card was played by Obama. Not from President Bill Clinton. And it was played to anger and guilt black supporters away from supporting Hillary. Disgusting!

Posted by: Julie | April 22, 2008, 1:52 pm 1:52 pm

I believe it. I totally believe that Obama’s campaign had it planned to catch either Bill or Hillary in anything resembling a racist remark, precisely so that they could play the race card.
And they did! They sure as heck did. They leaped on the first pathetic thing Hillary said, and then they went after Bill with equal venom.
Sad. Deeply disturbing.
That anyone would call either of the Clintons racist is pathetic and desperate. It’s a travesty, especially when you look at their life-long record of work for the African American community. It’s also sad that community has turned their back on them. I understand that they would want to vote for Obama, but to paint the Clintons as racist is profoundly wrong.

There are two possible explanatinos for the recent bizarre incidents involving comments by both the Clintons:
(1) They have extremely poor short-term memories and can’t remember what they said a few days or even hours ago.
(2) They are two of the most qualified candidates for a new federal position: Storyteller for the Nation. What yarns they spin!

Posted by: Tom in Virginia | April 22, 2008, 1:53 pm 1:53 pm

Look. The media goes out of its way to FORCE these idiot questions on Clinton. Its not like he summons a press conference to spew it all out.
Here is the forumla:
Want a story? Want to paint Bill as a racist? Want to wreck Hillarys campaign?
Simple.
1)Just go hunt Bill down and force a question down his throat. Back him into a corner to get him to defend himself or his wife
2) Take whatever he says and make it a huge headline .
Of course, my theory would point to the media being COMEPLETELY CORRUPT AND BIASED for Obama , egro acting like HENCHMEN to rip Clinton a new one every chance they get.
That couldnt be happening, now could it?

I don’t think anyone is calling Bill a racist. Anyone that has a brain knows that he’s not. The fact is that he made it out to be that he was supposed to get SC because Jesse Jackson got it. Any with a brain knows that Bill Clinton was a great president..at least I do. I’ve never had anything bad to say about Hillary. However as I’ve watched her campaing over the last year and a half, I’ve really begun to dislike her. With that being said, I’d still vote for her over McCain in the General election.

Posted by: Jason | April 22, 2008, 2:00 pm 2:00 pm

The DNC under the FOIA just requested every written document every generated by John McCain. The GOP has not submitted any requests.
You don’t think the DNC is getting ready to try to smear John McCain?
So the high and mighty Obama can keep to the big issues.
The whole system is a farce.

Posted by: Frank Jones | April 22, 2008, 2:01 pm 2:01 pm

in2itively…I saw Jessie Jackson and another guy…(he wrote a controversial book, wore glasses, black guy…)I can’t remember his name both Obama supporters were interviewed by MSNBC claiming racism in the results of New Hampshire PRIOR to anything Bill or Hillary had said. They started it then and a week later they pounced on Hillary being racist about Martian Luther King taking her remarks out of context and then saying Bills “Fairy Tale” remark was racist. Again, that was taken out of context. And that started a witch hunt for anything racist.

Posted by: Julie | April 22, 2008, 2:03 pm 2:03 pm

“context sure the hell didn’t matter when it was a preacher’s phrases being parsed. ”
hahaha – how many comments have the Clintons taken out of context and gotten mileage off of? These are the politics the American people are tired of.

Bill is not a racist. The real racism is coming from the Obama side.

Posted by: Gayle in Oregon | April 22, 2008, 2:08 pm 2:08 pm

Texas Lil,
You’re right, if the poor came out to vote, there would be a political revolution. It would be full on socialism. Most poor are poor for a reason…it’s called being lazy. If the poor were in charge they’d vote for every social program they could and the working class would be the ones that paid for it. No thanks.
Emilianna,
You said there are more white people on welfare than black people, and you’re right. 38.8% of welfare recipients are white, 37.2% are black. However, 80% of the US population is white, 13% is black. You may want to look a little further into the facts you are going to use to support the outstanding nature of blacks in this country. You make a bad argument.

“hahaha – how many comments have the Clintons taken out of context and gotten mileage off of? These are the politics the American people are tired of.”
Why is it that lately all I hear from the Obama Campaing (and now you too) Is something akin to “So! They did it too!” Since when does two wrongs make a right. And I though Obama was supposed to be of a new kind of politics. Guess he’s all talk after all.

i used to be a big fan of Bill’s, but it seems like in the years out of the limelight, he has gotten a little crazy. when he talks, he seems like he’s acting and over the top, at that. most of things that he says are negative and just plain weird. i’m worried about him … i think he’s lost it.

If anybody believes that if a large group of voters vote 90% for one candidate and there is no underlying cause other than candidate’s ability is stupid.

Posted by: Satish | April 22, 2008, 2:14 pm 2:14 pm

It is amazing that this petty quibble is so important to so many. Can anyone here describe what it is that any of these candidates intends to do once in office? Hillary’s Health Care plan still caters to the HMOs (these institutions do not have people’s well being in mind). Will any of these candidates pull us out of Iraq and lighten the load in Afgh? Honestly? These candidates have very weak positions on energy policy, taxation and spending. Do you think anyone has a plan fro infrastructure development as the streets in our big cities continue to languish? I think not. All we have are three celebrities running fro office. This is a missed opportunity for America. A big one.

Posted by: Jack Sprat | April 22, 2008, 2:15 pm 2:15 pm

Where do you people come up with this stuff?
Rick—have you been to Obama’s church? How do you know that every sermon is white bashing? Have you listened to every sermon? Hearing a 30 second sound byte does not equate to being an expert or “knowing” anything other than 30 seconds on a sermon was extremely offensive.
Jodi–why is it that anyone that doesn’t support Hillary is somehow delusion or misguided or all of Obama’s support is merely youthful idealism. Isn’t the whole point to get young people engaged? Hasn’t that been the complaint that numerous politicians on both sides of the isle have been making ? And now that young people are involved in record numbers, Hillary supporters are making condescending comments that they’re misguided and being fooled.
And to the larger point–Obama did not introduce race into this campaign. He has responded when attacked but he hasn’t been calling Hillary or Bill a racist. Supporters of his may have, and those that comment on message boards like these may have but HE has not. The fact that he has received upwards to 90% of the black vote does not equate to playing the race card. There is a HUGE difference between voters voting for someone because of their race or their gender and playing the race/gender card.

I think Bill Clinton does this deliberately. He’s way to smart to make these types of mistake. It is calculated to put a negative focus on him rather than on his wife, and to make her a “victim” by implication he may be subliminally trying to sabotage her. It’s ridiculous and convoluted. But, then that is the story of their lives.
I personally will have none of it……they are pretty transparent, and it is only those who fall for it that have me shaking my head in bewilderment.
I suspect that in the area of racism, the Clinton’s may be more in touch with certain types of people than others, afterall that is a topic of which they seem to be quite fond.
If everyone pays attention to his “gaffe”, then they will not notice that she is a warmongerer willing to bomb the Iranians, Arabian’s, and anyone else who is perceived to be a threat, whether it is in America’s interest or not.
Don’t hear anyone talking about that today, do you?

Two years into his first term in the U.S. Senate, a highly respected and powerful position, the man decides, “Eh… this Senate gig isn’t doing it for me. It want to be the leader of the free world!” So he embarked on this quest, having abandoned what was his big chance to show us what he’s made of. Now he asks us to have hope and believe in ourselves, except when it comes to believing someone who has already proven himself by his actions in office, who is now, despite all appearances to the contrary, a racist. I am skeptical, and lean toward supporting someone with more experience and detailed plans for getting things done. This makes me a racist too. Thanks for breaking it down.

Jason, the blacks registered as Democrat voters in South Carolina comprised more than 50 percent of Democrat voters. Do you think all the blacks kept the flag up? Don’t twist the demographics to make a false point. We were talking about the Primary, and not the general election to be held in November. Do you think that the 29 percent of AA voters will give Obama the electoral votes for South Carolina in November? I don’t think so. The math does not compute. Obama and his camp have tried to get sympathy claiming that others are playing the race card against him. Nothing you can say will change that. The percentages of people who have been offended by that are much larger than you think. The numbers really are against him.

Bill is absolutly correct. Blacks are voting for Obama more for his color than anything else..
—————————————-
How insulting. So why is it that most of the educated folks in america are also backing Obama? I guess they all got an attack of “Black Love”.
When this all started neither my wife, my mother or me (all black when I last checked) even wanted Obama in this race. I was firmly behind Hillary. Then she and her husband proceeded to change all of that. Black folks feel betrayed and hurt by the fact that some that we so revered (Bill Clinton) could behave this way. It all has to do with a sense of loyalty and decency. The two-headed monster that Bill and Hilary have become, represents the worst of what we’ve come to expect of the GOP.
All that aside, after carefully listening to all of the canadates, It would be America’s loss if Obama does not get elected President. Maybe Americe really does not deserve him.
Vote McCain while the world applauds the fall of the arrogant, pompus, American empire.

nickelflipper, listen to the radio interview, all of it, before you listen to the reporter trying to spin and get an incomplete negative reaction. Bill Clinton was asked a question on the radio interview and he answered it fully. He discussed specifics like talking to Jesse Jackson. Listen to all of it. The problem is too many people listen to the soundbites reporters want you to hear. It is up to you to get the full story. Bill Clinton is absolutely correct about Obama’s strategy of pulling race cards. And, you just compound the problem by reporting a spinning falsehood.

The reason it’s 90-10 Obama in regard to AA vote is precisely because of BClinton’s mouth. Hillary was winning AA vote before SC. You think Obama wants to have 90% of the AA vote if it means losing 15% of the white vote? Hell no! There’s a block of white voters who will vote against Obama precisely for the reason Bill said. That’s why he said it…to draw attention to it. He knows there will be a backlash among some middle/lower income, HS graduate whites who perceive a black candidate to be catering to blacks alone. That was the point of Bills SC comment. Duh.

KnSD—In theory your correct and you did an excellent job explaining yourself. However, practicality will step in and you will have far more individual restrictions in this country if we have anything close to 9/11 occur again.
You will NOT SAVE PARADISE by CLOSING YOUR EYES TO REALITY! Many people during WW2 could not believe the horrors the Nazi’s were committing and those Horrors continued for far too long because of that. Millions were killed (including lots of our soldiers) and some of those millions could have been saved if we had been more vigilant and less obsessed with cliches and meaningless BS!
I say to you again, lives are more important then the Supreme Court. Theory and reality are NOT the same. Get with it. Read some history books.

Posted by: Independent | April 22, 2008, 5:35 pm 5:35 pm

Independent,
We should not throw out our Constitution just because we are not happy about how things are going.
What we need to do is to educate ourselves about issues that do matter (all of them, not just the ones we care about) and then make informed decisions as to whom we elect. And when those people don’t live up to our expectations, we should vote them out. If we educated ourselves to care more about all of the issues and stopped focusing all of our energy on telling other people that they are wrong or have the wrong priorities, we would not divide ourselves and can stand to gether to demand more from those who represent us.
The fact that we have no plan for the war in Iraq, or that we made a mess of and for ourselves in Vietnam, doesn’t mean we scrap the governement and start over. It means we go in, fix what needs to be fixed, vote out the people who made the mess and then we put in new people and demand from them tht they do a better job.
The great thing about this country is how every 2 years we get to have a revolution.

You were brilliant back then with your tactics. Trouble is, the rest of the US has moved on, and your campaign is stuck in the ’90s.
How does a former First Lady candidate who has her ex=President husband and ex=First Daughter out campaigning on her behalf not win in a landslide?

why does obama avoid the press lately? does he not want to be bothered with any more questions, afraid his finger may shoot up if he gets annoyed!! the audacity of the hype of hope, he has displayed none of the traits that an american president should have. I am praying that PA will do the right thing today and not vote for someone who thinks that wearing the flag is choosing sides? what side? the American side – yeah that would be bad for the country. My son just did a report on red badge of courage he is in grade school and understands the importance of the symbol of the flag. Our soldiers have died in every battle to protect the flag and what it stands for, after 9/11 it stood as a symbol for all of us that came together after our country was attacked. There are so many things that make him unelectable and yet his supporters keep telling themselves change and hope, change and hope. Change to what? Wrightism, finger flippin, no flags, no anthem? These are issues, no they dont solve the gas prices or the mortage crises but they do need to be addressed of the man who wants to hold the highest office in the United States of America. This country can be great again, can be respected again, but our president has to love the flag and all it stands for.

Some of you can’t seem to believe there are real Democrats out here that can’t stand the Clintons. Well we’re here, and in greater numbers than you think.

Obama and his supporters absolutely twisted Clinton’s remarks in Carolina. It started out as a compliment to Obama — had NOTHING to do with being anti-black or anti-not-white. Obama has always been quick to play the race card (or have someone play it for him, usually) and then sit back and say, “who me?”
Yes you, you big phony.

A Clinton is caught lying, again. So what else is new?

Posted by: bud | April 22, 2008, 7:54 pm 7:54 pm

If I agreed with Obama on the issues, his plans for the country and who influences his opinions, I’d vote for him in a heartbeat. He is a masterful speaker and has a little bit of JFK-Lite in him. Unfortunately, I don’t, so I can’t.

Posted by: Lee | April 22, 2008, 7:58 pm 7:58 pm

Bill Clinton didn’t start lying recently. He and Hillary have been dishonest since before he won the presidency.
People are finally alert to it and the media is finally doing their job with (certain) democrats instead of just pounding republicans.

The Clintons are model liberal democrats. Truth is relative, the ends justify the means, what I said is not what I said and silence the opposition. It’s right out of the liberal democratic playbook.

Posted by: N Waff | April 22, 2008, 9:02 pm 9:02 pm

Bill is right to be frustrated! The press and the Obama campaign keeps twisting his words and claiming that he is injecting race into the campaign when they are the ones doing it.. Obama has been race baiting for months to get an advantage in the states that are heavily African American and then pointing the finger at the Clinton campaign. I find his tactics disgusting and the is why if he is the nominee i will not vote or vote for McCain!

Posted by: Betsy | April 22, 2008, 9:05 pm 9:05 pm

The Clintons’ first inclination is to lie. They can’t help it. They’ve been doing it for so long and the Democrats have been gulping it in for so long, it’s amazing some are finally catching on to the real Clintons.

What would be wonderful is to have Bill Clinton on CNN tonight for the Pennsylvania election returns and have them play the WHYY Radio interview for Wolf, Donna, etc., and then dissect it. They reported the story in their little soundbites and cutsies tonight, and there is no way their little spin matches the content of the interview. I would love to hear him discuss it with them. But, then, it would be a delicate and embarrassing situation for these fine upstanding “journalists”. They would not be able to get away with their kind of news presentation. America and the free press are really in trouble.

Bill Clinton only has “an office in Harlem” because he could not move into the location of his first choice! I think he forgot to mention that! What a freaking piece of garbage and filth he is.

Hillary makes me sick to my stomach.
If she wins, just about everybody I know is sitting out of this pathetic mess.
I’m so sick of these old guard politicians holding court in Washington DC for decade after decade after decade. What is this, monarchy now? King Bill and Queen Hillary. Prince Bush II. It’s just a big cesspool of cronyism, nepotism and corruption.

Rome burns and all anybody seems to care about is this travesty of a TV reality show called politics today. I guess it’s our moronic apathy that has led us to today huh?

Posted by: mauricio | April 23, 2008, 1:39 am 1:39 am

Trax,
I will assume that you are talking to me since I seem to be the only one with K in their name….
I did not mention anything about Obama lying that I can see. Though, at this point, I didn’t find my original post to read it over again. But I don’t remember calling Obama a liar.
What I have said is that Obama is a product in this campaign. He is good packaging. I don;t hear the specifics from him in his speeches. I don’t see any evidence of a plan or the track record of doing what he says he will do if he is elected. Even in his acceptance speech tonight I heard far too many stretches of the truth for my taste.
He is not my first choice for president, but he will certainly have my vote if he is the nominee. For a multitude of reasons.
The reason I support Hillary is because I have no illusons as to what I am getting. I know who she is, who her husband is and I am okay with that. Of the choices I have this election, that is who I choose. That’s not difficult for me at all.
And bringing up Bill’s issues (such as the “what “is” is comment) is not going to sway me from supporting Hillary.
I do have the ability to look at everything and make my decision accordingly. To quote a phrase “sometimes, the devil you know….”
And to Independent – We have been phenomanally blessed in this country that we haven’t had realy anything on our home soil but 9/11 since the civil war (and the World Trade Center in 93). Not many countries on the planet can make a claim like that. I have read and I am relatively well educated and I still say tht for this moment in time, the Supreme Court is the priority.
It always struck my as hypocritical and ironic for Bush to stand up and say “they hate us for our freedoms” and then push the Patriot Act and attack those freedoms.
In theory vs. practicality? Are you kidding? If you want to show people how strong Amrica is and how great it is then stand up and defend our Constitution, and by doing so the country, by showing the strength of our convictions in that this is the land of the free and the home of the brave. Live up to the ideals we espouse and tell the world they should aspire to.

Obama has lost the general election. He just hasn’t realized it yet. If Hillary doesn’t get the nomination, she will run as an Independent pulling votes from Obama. It has been so much fun watching the Democrats self-destruct! Democrats are such losers.

If Obama can’t win with working class white voters why should he be the nominee? If he cannot win PA or Ohio why should he be the nominee? If he can’t win in Florida, Michigan, California, or the states that really matters what good is he? Why can’t he close the deal? The argument that the person who wins the most states is garbage. In November the winner takes all Electoral College heavily favors Clinton. “Super Dems” be smart and choose the hill that is where you will fine a win for the houses.

Posted by: Marlon | April 23, 2008, 7:25 am 7:25 am

The Democratic party is the party of failure. It doen’t matter which one of these idiots get the nomination, they are both equally qualified to lead it. If they both stepped aside, there are plenty more who could step in and do just as good a job (Gore, Kerry, Etc). As this thing wears on, perhaps some of you will come out of the anesthesia that has numbed you for so long.

Florida. Isn’t that the state that the candidates agreed they would not campaign? The state that Hillary campainged? The state that isn’t having votes counted?
Michigan. Isn’t that a state where the votes weren’t counted and Obama didn’t have his name included on the ballot because they weren’t going to be counted?
It’s fine and dandy for people to say Hillary won both of those states, but it’s quite a stretch for anyone to believe those were true elections.

“Bill is absolutly correct. Blacks are voting for Obama more for his color than anything else.”
The same could be said about old white voters [the only age group Clinton is leading] who may be a bit too racist to vote for a black man, who is clearly the better candidate on the Democrat side.

Hmmm…when either one of these morally bankrupt, self-aggrandizing Clintons get caught in their own web of lies and deceit, it is a conspiracy against them. How many times can the voters hear them blame the press or Republicans for trying to “get” them before they realise there might be a problem with the Clintons?

Posted by: Nigel | April 23, 2008, 8:38 am 8:38 am

Bill Clinton is right.Obama has played the race card all during the democratic nomination.Black voters went 92% for Obama in Pennsylvannia. That tells the American people that blacks are voting for Obama just because his skin happens to be black. The issues seem to be on the back burner for Obama supporters and his followers will vote for him no matter what.

Posted by: S4B0 | April 23, 2008, 8:38 am 8:38 am

Bill Clinton reminds me of that line from It’s a Wonderful Life: “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings.” In this case, “Every time Bill Clinton speaks, Obama gets more votes.” I swear he is deliberately trying to undermine Hillary’s campaign sometimes.

Posted by: Jeff Schmitt | April 23, 2008, 8:40 am 8:40 am

This is all due to Rush Limbaugh’s “OPERATION CHAOS” This is fantastic to see Dems get a piece of their own medicine. They are the ones fixated on race, not the Republicans. And they ALLWAYS have been.
Remember the Republicans freed the slaves and the Democrats created the KKK

Posted by: Insanity Island | April 23, 2008, 8:49 am 8:49 am

I am a registered Republican and have been for the past thirty years. However, I voted for Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1996. I still think that, on balance, he did a good job as President. That being said, I think that his wife is unfit for the Presidency.
Now as to his comments on the South Carolina primary: I doubt very much that Bill Clinton’s comments were racially motivated. They were clumsy and subject to misinterpretation. But to accuse Bill Clinton of racism is really a stretch.

How sad…Obama and Hillary are almost identical in their views. They should be looking to do what’s best to advance their political agenda, which means, one steps down for the sake of a Democrat remaining strong in the race. Now many supporters of one won’t vote for the other if the other wins the nomination. As long as Hillary stays in, McCain is gaining Democrat support. Hillary’s (read Bill’s) ego, along with her certainty that Obama will make one tragic false move, is what’s keeping her in. She doesn’t care about how this affects the Party.

Posted by: vic | April 23, 2008, 9:58 am 9:58 am

I get really upset when I hear people saying that Blacks are only voting for Obama because he is Black. That really scares me because it’s saying Whites aren’t voting for him because he is Black.
It’s not about Black or White people, it’s about putting a worthy candidate in office.
Obama isn’t the first Black_American to run for President. So it can’t be stated that Blacks are voting because of his race. Obama is sharp and very smart so why not vote for him White or Black?
He is a man that’s running for the Presidency, can we leave race out of it and who’s voting for him and why. Please, I am so tired of race being brought up all the time.

Posted by: Gerald | April 23, 2008, 10:12 am 10:12 am

I love it that the liberals are now race baiting each other. What a hoot! This election is all about race and anyone who says otherwise is seriously confused. I know the Republicans want Obama to win for precisely that reason. If Obama wins, then it is a black-white contest in November. Look at the population demographics. White voters VASTLY outnumber black voters. There will be some racial crossover both ways, but not much and the white candidate will win. It’s a sad state of affairs that it has come to this, but the democrats have brought it on themselves. Whites are so sick of this racial crap that being called a racist no longer has any meaning. Blacks have said they are going to vote for Obama because he is black. Is this not racist? Of course it is, but so what? I just wish we had a qualified candidate running for president. All three of them are either incompetent, dangerous, or both.

This entire election season is just sick. The Clintons can lie , and be seen lying on camera and many of you dimwits would still vote for her. Obama has a nice message, but he would never be the great unifier we need. He voted against John Roberts for the supreme court, while the vote was 78-22 for his nomination. Roberts is probably the most qualified jurist since John Jay. If that vote wasn’t pure partisan politics, please share with me. John McCain is old and sometimes angry, but his integrity is fairly intact. He would not be my first choice, and if he makes a good slip, Nader will get my vote. But he has proven that he will reach across the aisle, and that’s what this country needs right now! Enough of the Clintons, and Obama has too much gray area to get my vote!

Carter: You are absolutely right!
I’m a white republican and it has been clear throughout the campaign the
the Clintons and their surrogates have
brought race into the campaign through
innuendo! They’ve already tried to
negate the North Carolina vote by having their media surrogates bring up the anticipated support Obama will get from African-American voters there!
As if there is something wrong with people being proud of their race and voting for Obama!
I am Italian-American and I would vote
for a qualified Italian-American if he or she was running and was a Republican!
There is nothing wrong with racial or ethnic pride!

If ANYONE would bother to go back and look at when the race issue came about, it did NOT come from Bill Clinton. That whole comment about being a fairytale was in reference to Obama’s view on Iraq NOT him or his campaign. People within Obama’s campaign AND African American supporters are the ones that decided to make ALL of this a race issue. NOW, it really is because LOOK at who Obama’s supporters are……

Bill Clinton did a lot of damage to this country and Hillary will do more. McCain will do even more. The election is too crucial at this time in America to be dealing with these greedy people. We can count on Obama’s voting record and honesty. As a 70+yr old woman,I truely would love to vote for a woman for President but Clinton is not nearly qualified or capable of keeping the upper standards the likes I haven’t seen since Roosevelt. Obama does.

Posted by: Yeske24 | April 24, 2008, 12:09 pm 12:09 pm

Race is an issue in some ways. There are a lot of hate groups out there that would not want to see a black President.
What if one of them managed assasinate Obama. Remember how bad it was with the Rodney King verdict. I once heard a speach where the speaker said if MLK were assasinated today the country would likely be in a civil war. I have no problem with Obama being President, I just hope nothing ever happens to him.

Posted by: Brad | April 24, 2008, 12:39 pm 12:39 pm

Why is David Axelrod advising any of his surrogates to attack Bill Clinton (again) after his candidate drew 97% of the black vote in PA.
David Axelrod is not only tarnishing the legacy of Bill Clinton but he is ripping the country apart by playing the race card too many times.
It seems to me that Axelrod is threatening the superdeligates with the argument that if you take this nomination away from Obama, it will be your fault for igniting a racial war (causing possible riots?) in America.

Posted by: steve | April 25, 2008, 12:08 am 12:08 am

Where is the memo that Bill clinton refers to?? The Obama campaign’s attack on Bill Clinton was a bit too hasty to appear spontaneous. I am skeptical because Axelrod is very experienced at promoting African-American candidates (governor of Massachuetts, for example), and he is well aware of the power of “playing” the race card. It would be logical to anticipate that Axelrod would desire to silence Bill Clinton early in the campaign. Why did the Obama campaign chose to make such a big deal about this when it was obvious that the black voters in South Carolina were going to vote for Obama for historical reasons? I regret that Bill Clinton timed his response when he did, but I believe that his reaction was understandable, given his lifelong commitment to furthering civil rights. Speaking as a person who has had the race card played against me, I do empathize with Bill Clinton’s sense of betrayal. If Axelrod is, indeed, threatening the superdelegates as Steve suggests, he is continuing to play the race card, and the Democratic party as well as the country will pay the price for years to come. I do not want top see anyone elected to the most important office in this country because of affirmative action, whether it be a person of color or gender.

I’m sick of the Obama campaign’s double standards and slick tricks. He may fool some people into thinking he’s for changing Washington politics but he’s simply using good ole Chicago politics in it’s place!
His campaign played the race card simply to neutralize Bill Clinton early in the campaign. It doesn’t take much effort to see that!
