Cheney Calls the Rev. Wright’s Comments ‘Appalling’
ABC News’ Jon Garcia reports: Vice President Dick Cheney made a quick appearance on Sean Hannity’s radio show, where he used some very strong words to condemn the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barak Obama’s former pastor.
"I thought some of the things he said were absolutely appalling," Cheney told the conservative talk show host. "And, you know, I haven’t gotten into the business of trying to judge how Sen. Obama dealt with it, or didn’t deal with it, but I really — I think, like most Americans, I was stunned at what the reverend was preaching in his church and then putting up on his Web site."
Cheney was referring to the now infamous, caught-on-tape comments Wright made during some of his sermons, including "God damn America," and the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."
The vice president also backed his boss, President George Bush, and his decision to attend the Beijing Olympics this summer. Bush has come under fire for pledging to attend the games, as critics say it shows support for China in the wake of its violent crackdown in Tibet. Both Democratic presidential contenders, Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton, and others have called for President Bush to boycott the opening ceremonies.
Cheney told Hannity that wasn’t a good move.
"Well, the president has made it clear that he’s planning on going, that he thinks this is primarily a sporting event," Cheney said. "The best way to achieve progress and change in terms of the way the Chinese operate is to talk to them quietly. And boycotting the Olympics isn’t the right way to go. That really penalizes our athletes. And so I think he certainly indicated at this point he does plan to go, and I’d be surprised if he didn’t."
The vice president spent the balance of his time talking up the administration’s moves on Iraq, the surge, and Gen. David Petraeus’ testimony this week.

Are we all just stunned that this guy has been a heartbeat away from the presidency for the last 7-8 years.
How did that happen?

We elected him. Deal with it.
But I don’t disagree with him.
Plain talk: however we got here, race is the topic. All sides have something to say about it. It goes better if we don’t demonize each other.
That is precisely what Black Liberation Theology does to whites. No matter the outcome of this election, this topic isn’t going away, so Senator Obama can deal with it, or let it pass.
It is his choice.
We can vote for him considering his ongoing association with communities of this belief or not.
That is our choice. Welcome to America.

The Wright comments and Obama’s support of them for 20 years will run 24/7 the moment he is nominated.
Obama is totally unelectable.

What a tool – offensive hyperbole from a former marine – vs torture.
Thats right I forgot – validating the torture and oppression over freedom of speech (despite how vile) is his modus operendi.
Will be pleased to see you in the defense stand – as a war criminal.

Yeah, which is worst Cheney: the comments of the minister? Or, sending men and women in harms way for a war that should have never been fought?
This goes to show that senator will be the nominee and will win the white house in 2008.

First of all this war criminal can’t call anything appalling. It’s appalling what he and Bush are doing to our men and women in uniform, not to mention the Iraqi people. They fit right up there with Saddam, when it comes to genocide. They should be put on trial for crimes againt humanity.
NO MORE REPUBLICAN EVER!

You make me sick. The nation will dance when your gone.

J, I personally hope it stays in the headlines until June. That way come November it will be a dead issue – the polls show 87% of the voting public has seen the video or heard the quotes YET Senator Obama is still here…. Please keep running this in the headlines now while it clearly doesn’t impact Senator Obama. That way it will be dead in time for the general election.

Obviously, Cheney is a freak, but be warned Democrats.. this is the kindof crap we’ll be listening to all fall long. Rev. Wright’s greatest hits will be splattered all over TV 24/7. I hope you guys who signed on to the “yes we can” train are ready, because it’s gonna get ugly. We adults tried to tell you… putting up a novice against these guys will get us no where.. but you bought the hope on a stick. All I can say is.. Good Luck.

As Rev. Wright isn’t running for President, what he says and does is of no concern. But I am interested in the crimes Cheney has committed.

If the thoughts of Rev. Wright are those of Sen. Obama, then I strongly disagree with both of them. They have a right to their opinions and I will defend that but if Obama believes what Wright says then he is not fit to be the President of the United States.

Sar, first i was stunned, then i thought of my preist and said, “eh, whatever”. I never bothered to listen to the whole sermon. Then i got an email from a friend with a link to the ENTIRE sermon and he asked that everyone listen to it. He is nto that liberal of a person. So I thought “odd, He doesn’t seem like he’d support this” but he is a very intelligent guy so i indulged himn and I listened to the WHOLE sermon and after I did, sorry to break it to ya, but I think the Rev made some very very godo points about what a Christian is and how, and this is Rev WRight’s quote in those sermonds “VIOLENCE BEGETS VIOLENCE” “HATE BEGETS HATE”….did you listen to the whole sermon? No. Obviously, I can tell. YOU don’t understand his point. His point was that he was concerned that we will be damned for what we do. HE was not calling for God to damn us. ANTBODY who actually listend to it would understand that. but hey, nto like a rightwinger to be informed so keep up the steriotpye of the obtuse uninformated ignorant rightwinger. IT works so well for you people. why let a little thing like the truth stand in the way of a good right winger rant, huh??? never has before.

Hi Dogsoldier-
Again you take everything so literally.. Do I mean Cheny and Clinton hatched the scheme together? No of course not. Do I think they are taking advantage of the momentum and playing off each other and allowing each of the camps to make their arguments for them ? Yes. But the real point you missed is the positions they put forward have no basis in fact.

what i dont get is y every one is so stuck on the war in iraq. see the problem is that the world needs policed. unfortunatlly its a double edged sword. its a loose loose situation for this great country of ours. see if we do something about it then were starting a war we shouldnt be in and if we dont do anything then were ignoring the problem and we dont care about them. so before we go bad mouthing the people making the decisions maybe we should start with bad mouthing the people that put them there. and also if barak was in office on 911 how do u think he would have handled it. would he have just tucked tail and ran and not stood our ground. the bottom line is that the decision has been made and we should deal with it util the end. support our troops and our elected leaders decision.

I do have to say that I pity the next POTUS, no matter WHO she/he is, because they will have a HUGE mess to clean up. And if they don’t do it PERFECTLY (and who could?), you know that the die-hard-”excuse-Bush-no-matter-what” crowd will cry and moan and blame them for everything. How sad…

hasn’t cheney been indicted in the Netherlands or some such place for war crimes??? I think he will one day be put up to trial. For whatever reason he launched the war, thinking it was easy, getting rich, getting oil…whatever, I believe completley it was NOT for our safety. He used our military like it was cannon fodder. He broke a solemn promise we have with our troops that we would NEVER put them in harms way unless it was totally necessary. Cheney should go to jail. so should bush. WHo knows, maybe someday someone will find some memo, some evidence they haven’t destroyed. Maybe one day they will. either way, I don’t think God smiles down on them. In this way I think REv WRights IS rights. God doesn’t change in what he thinks is right and wrong. if you do nto do God’s will, you WILL be damned, no matter who you are.

ah, no, i’m not appaulled after having listened the entire sermon. WRight did not ask God to d*mn America. If the tape allowed him to finish his sentence, it was that God will D*mn America if she doesn’t treat her citizens properly. If you actually HEARD what it is you are complaining about, you should listen to more than two sentences ofthe sermon. The majority of hte sermon talked about policies of this government that were once thought of as OK. Slavery, Japaenese internment, Indian ethnic cleansing, and he said “GOD does not change. Governments do, Thank GOD.” GOD does not change what he thinks is right or wrong, but governments do change what they think is right or wrong and we must be careful what we think is right is today. “we want payback and we don’t care who gets hurts in teh process” and he clarifies this to children and citizens in countries we attack. He also said “Violence begets violence” and how wrong is the “Cycle of violence”…he said WE will be d*mned if we act violently, immorally. We don’t get ot say “God bless America” and then act immoral and think thati s ok, that God will bless us no matter what we do. “No, no, no” God Dmn America if she doesn’t treat her people properly, if she doesn’t act morally. So no, if you listen to the entire sermon, the message of breaking teh cycle of violence ,of how God will NOT go with us if we go to the dark side, no, his sermon was not at all outrageous, AND I would MUCH rather have a president who has had such a man, who has preached leaders to be thoughtful and wary of going over to thedarkside, I would EMBRACE having a leader who has listene to such sermonds. Cheney should have listened to such sermons. Appauled indeed!!! appauled that a man is saying that senseless violence is wrong and that God woudl frown on it! yeah, I bet, D i c k, I bet you find that appauling!

Are you not tired of 8 years of Bush/McCain republican leadership. We are trillions of dollars in debt, our Mortgage industry has collasped, Jobs are leaving this country faster then you can say india and free trade agreements. 4028 dead and 26,000 wounded based upon a republican leadership lie ( today this is undisputed), Hallaburton and Oil companies making unreal profits (thanks to the relationships with Caney, Bush and McCain), Yes,all have ties to Bush/McCain and Chaney. While the working people in this country are getting squeezed. Look, if you want to continue to support this type of government, then don’t cry when things get worse. The only reason these clowns can lie and cheat the American people is that some of us are too dumb or lazy to do something different.

Obama is too good at talking, too smart, too fluid. He will win, easily. Right wingers will be completely utterly shocked. domestic, Afghanistan, and Iraq policies may have had some thing to do with this. Policies that Obama and Clinton oppose. So if you anti Obama and Clinton folks get your way, what than? Let me make some predictions. The Patriot Act will be history and Al Qaeda will be free to plot away without fear of the US knowing what they are doing. Once the US has retreated and let Al Qaeda take over Iraq, Al Qaeda can use Iraq’s vast oil reserves to fund a nuk. Oh my. Iran will flex their muscles and openly say, yeah we have nuks and if you don’t give us what we want, lets say the destruction if Israel, we will nuk you. Oh my. Of course, Obama with his great speaking skills will be able to talk Al Qaeda and Iran out of all this nonsense. He will make a big speech and a lot of people will faint for real when he tells them the way to avoid being nuked is to convert to Islam, bow to Mecca and kill all the gays. Oh my.

McCain is on par with Bush on nearly every issue. McCain hasn’t a chance in the world. No Repbulican does, really. but certianly not one so prowar as McCAin. We are all SICK ofwar. Sick of debt, and sick of big corporations socializign their LOSSES while wanting freemarket when they ahve huge profits. Jo, who cares how long somebody goes to someones church. Obama was president of the Harvard Law Review(Very,Very, big deal in legals circles) and a graduate of Harvard Law school, don’t you think he was taught to think for himself. You also must remember, Rev Wright is much older then Obama and has witness more pain as an African American that Obama and many in the younger generation will never understand completely. Don’t let the republicans get you looking one way and pick pocet you while you are not paying attention. That how we got Bush and 4,028 dead and 25,000 wounded (you might not be very concerned unless you have a family member over there or is one of the dead or wounded) So don’t fall for the Karl Rove tactics which includes the swift boat ( remember they defamed the character of an American Hero John Kerry with a bunch of lies which lead to Bush which lead to this mess), pastor wright crap and who knows what else these A-holes will come up with next. Don’t be used.

Repeat the sentence, close your eyes and imagine 4,000 caskets draped with flags….the lies…
and he’s appalled….

Crock: You apparently have no problem with Mr. Wright’s freedom of speech but you draw the line at Mr. Cheney’s?? Freedom of speech is for everybody.
As to what Mr. Wright has said, it is appalling. While he has – and should have – every right to say what he thinks or feels, I also have the right to say, vehemently, what I think of his comments and to criticize him for making them. That is what “Freedom of Speech” means.
To demand that Freedom of Speech be restricted to certain people is the first step to tyranny and tyranny is no sweeter because the tyrant believes he is right. Most of the trants in history – including both Hitler and Stalin – believed they were right.

Every president has his constituency. To win, he has to patch together a broad coalition, convincing enough groups that he’s one of them but he always ends up governing with his original constituency. You could say that Bill Clinton’s constituency was kind of Yale Law School oriented, smart, liberal, do-gooders. Bush’s constituency was the oil patch, big energy, big corporations and big money. Obama has given every indication that his constituency is based on the values of Trinity Church, Rev. Wright and black liberation theology.

Nicholas,
If you checked the history books (since you are into history) then you can understand why Pastor Wright said some of the things he said. Why don’t you use your history knowledge to correct some of these anti-Obama people and point out that yes its true the USA at one time was the US of KKK, remember the movie birth of a nation? Oh, you probably don’t want to talk history know?

Do the right thing,
No evidence that Michelle Obama is a racist?? Are you kidding???
Just read her college thesis. She is obsessed with racism and expresses her disdain for white people in it. You want more evidence? MSNBC Morning Joe interview (11/13/2007) Michelle: “Black America will wake up and get it. Black people need to vote for Barack.” ABC interview: “My husband can change the image of black America.” What about her brother, Craig Malcolm Robinson? What was his thesis about? You guessed it!!! “Racism” within the prison community. Looks to me like Michelle is a very angry woman who carries a very large chip on her shoulder towards white people.

I’m sorry you can’t deal with the facts. Now you have chosen to personally attack me. This is another reason Hillary supporters will not vote for Barack. As to Michelle, her statements definitely come off as racist. What if Hillary had made these stmts substituting white for black? You would be the first to crucify her as a racist. Her one stmt that “Black people need to vote for Barack” makes it seem like they are obliged to vote for him just because he is black. That’s not racist? Maybe white people should vote for Hillary just because she is white. How would you feel then? And by the way, my father died of brain cancer, so I definitely did not appreciate your comment. Wake up, pick a person who will best represent all of America. Stop being a bigot!!

It will be a great moment in American history when a black person is elected president. But it should be someone who is experienced and ready and settled in his identity. Obama’s autobiographies show that he is still not comfortable in his own skin, so to speak. He is too caught up in proving he is black enough. He is ashamed of his white relatives. That’s why he can never ditch Wright or Farrakhan — they give him his black creds. I don’t believe that deep down he is capable of being president of all Americans. I think he views people as blacks, whites, jews, italians, etc., not as all Americans. It’s a subtle but I think key distinction. Race and ethnic groups matter too much to him.

Okay, so Reverend Wright isn’t on any ballot that I’ve seen. So I’m not planning on voting for him as a write-in either.
The torture thing is a huge problem for our country. It wipes any moral authority we have (or had), it is a poor tool for gathering useful information, and it exposes our soldiers to grievous harm. What I cannot for the life of me understand is how John McCain, who was tortured himself, can even stomach being associated with Bush/Cheney. How does he defend these guys? How can he honestly accept their support? The John McCain I knew in 2000 would be speaking up now about this. I guess the new and improved John McCain just cares about winning this time around… How disappointing…

Posted by: Aerin,
You make the same point I was trying to make regarding free speech. Your points are well taken, however, I was not confusing the patriot act with free speech, I simply said and believe that the forces that suggest Obama should not have been a member of that church based upon some of the thing the Pastor said are the same people that are eroding our rights in other areas. If we really believed in freedom of speech and freedom of worship, why is the pastor wright thing an issue and being used against OBama in a punitive manner (trust me when I say that playing and replaying those tapes are soley for the purpose of trying to attack this man).
I wonder if your job sanction you for what your pastor said in church over the past years? When Mitt Romney was running, did you see any tapes of his Pastor on the tube? I think the mormans have some rather different view points as well. They think if you are not a Morman you are going to hell or be damned, So don’t try to make this a innocent freedom, public knowledge issue, this is an attack on a black man running for the highest office in the land. That’s why his pastor is on TV and John McCains spiritual mentor John Haggee is not (oh by the way, go back and see some of the things Haggee has preached). So cut the nonsense and get real!

It’s time to for John McCain to make a choice, as Rush Limbaugh puts it, who his ‘real friends are’. My guess is his choice will be very apparent in his VP candidate pick.

Definitely Common Sense:
Thanks for the link to a great article! As usual, you’re a voice of reason on this blog.
I was thinking that when in my twenties, I considered myself to be a liberal democrat. I believed in equality for all (irrespective of gender, race, or ethnicity), I distrusted the republicans ardently, and I routinely advocated for the underprivileged on both the state and county levels. Even as a professor of business, I was proud to be the lone democrat in a department loaded with pompous, fat cat republicans. However, in an earlier post on another story, I found myself saying that I’m a moderate democrat. That’s the first time I’ve ever said those words—moderate democrat. Later, I began to worry that perhaps my movement toward a moderate political perspective is a function of getting older. I don’t, however, actually think that’s it. I think the chief reason is that the Democratic Party has failed us during this primary season—lifelong, loyal democrats. They’ve piled the following crap on us: 1. That it’s permitted to be racist, but only if you’re black, and really angry. 2. That a female candidate can’t advance the problem of sexism/misogyny, but a black candidate can rally racism (no matter how unfairly). 3. That the media can, and will dictate which candidate is preferential, and which candidate will receive an unprecedented level of scrutiny. 4. That the DNC can, and will disenfranchise millions of democratic voters as a punitive measure, despite the Florida republican’s control of the 2008 Florida primary process. 5. That the voice of the entire electorate is inconsequential, because the DNC and a few angry ultra-liberal legislators have determined that Obama is the candidate, and they will use any means necessary to force Hillary out of the race. Have I missed anything?

Everyone knows that Reverend Wright has a right to say anything he wants. And anyone has a right to listen to him if they want to. That’s not the point. The point is, if Obama has associated with him for twenty years, he very probably has the same views. Period. And people don’t want that kind of a person as their president. Obama needs to quit whining every time asks him about his personal views and past history. We have a right to know.

What a pair. Mr. ‘it’s ok to commit voter fraud #2 Hannity, (Limbaugh is #1), and ‘let’s go bomb a country who had nothing to do with 9/11 Cheney’, which I for one think is more than appalling. How much more appalling can you get than all the death and destruction created by Cheney’s word’s, at least the word’s and truth spoken by Rev. Wright haven’t harmed anyone unless you count the riling up of the bigots and true racists as harmful.

No, Emily, you’re getting older like the rest of us.
I must say, however, that I am getting so very tired of this race issue as it is not Obama that keeps bringing it up. In fact, he seems to have taken great pains not to run as the “black candidate”. On the other hand, it was Senator Clinton who stated to the effect that ‘well, I think a Woman President would be a real change.’ (note that she said this before South Carolina and all the race issue was brought up.) Well, let’s explore what she is saying, and the sexism you are noting:
1. What difference will chromosomal arrangement confer? She seems to be running her campaign as a “man” (not meant to be derogatory). Is it inherently sexist to choose a candidate opposite her? If so, then it is inherently racist to choose against Obama. So stalemate.
2. Along the same lines, if you vote for Senator Clinton because she is a woman, are you any better than someone voting for a candidate because he is a man?
3. Her sexism argument is nearly completely negated by standing by the Misogynist-in-Chief that is her husband. By her own words she said that she was not a “stand by your man” kinda gal, and yet she has suffered humiliation after humiliation at his behest. Feminists that I know call women such as that to be “self-haters”. I don’t think so in her case, I think she saw him as a means to her own end which on its face is empowering. But the crime is that she didn’t think she could do this as Hillary Rodham (which she could have). Or maybe she is a truly forgiving person – but this makes her unlike any woman I’ve ever met or known. Ask yourself honestly, would you have stayed with him? Perhaps a minority would, but most wouldn’t. I know personally that I would be a dead man if I cheated on my wife once let alone multiple times.
Yes, I hear the response already:
“But MIguy, you are a man and don’t understand the glass ceiling <>”. That is true, but I am not oblivious to it and I have seen its effects on my mother and my wife (both very bright women). But nobody likes to lose and somebody will lose. Try not to take it personally, no matter what the outcome.

You are obviously entitled to your opinion. Where I have found issue is when people state what you are saying and then say they are voting for McCain. As if there was a time warp to bring him back from 2000. If people recognize the evil in this administration, and how many it has infected throughout the government, then McCain had better start putting real distance between him and them. No more footsies and air smooches, but ‘straight talk’.

The deciding factor for many was the addition of Phil Gramm as McCain’s co-chair and finance director. If you don’t know who Gramm is look up bank de-regulation. He is the most main cause of today’s mortgage fiasco, and I for one don’t want him any where near the U.S. financial situation, nor do I want anyone associated with him as President.

Lists such as your serve no purpose as they can be created for any of the candidates. They are all electable – whichever voters actually show up will choose the next President (only 55% of eligible voters showed up in 2004).
You must be a Republican because Democrats generally don’t use the word “liberal” as a four-letter-word. If you are a Democrat, then please describe the policy differences between Clinton and Obama. I think you will find them nearly identical on the issues, and perhaps Senator Clinton’s healthcare mandate is more liberal than Obama’s plan.

Democrats are whining little brats. They complain about everything, but never lifted a hand to actually do anything.
They think Americians way of life is FREE, and they DESERVE whatever they can get on a silver platter. They have no real sense of belonging to the rest of their fellow americans. They have no real sense of the sacrifice and hard work of our forefathers.
They just pick out what is wrong. Point the finger, and blame all their personal problems on the goverment, or military, or why there inst BLISS 24 hours a day.
If this is what the democratic party stands for…….childish WHINING …….then I am all for starting another political party.

He is not ready to be the President. Too ambitious. Why is he in such a hurry to run for presidency. Do more work as senator would be better, and get ready for next term.

“Appalling”! That is rich coming from a man who has been the major architect of the lying campaign that paved the way for our disastrous foray into Iraq, has enriched himself with his crooked involvement with Halliburton and their fleecing of the American taxpayer with their no bid contracts in Iraq! This man has done more than most in the current administration to destroy our credibility and stature throughout the world, to involve us in an illegal war and thereby destroy our economy and run up the largest budget deficit in our nation’s history. This is also a man who has encouraged the use of torture and been instrumental in the destruction of our civil liberties. Frankly, I find that more appalling than anything Reverend Wright has said.

Well if anyone can understand guilt by association, it would be Cheney.
As long as it was benefitting the Clintons, they were associated with very radically outspoken ethnic religious leaders–Rev. Wright included. Would be interesting to pull some of their recorded sermons too.
I don’t think anyone in an objective view of Obama would consider him racially prejudiced.
It’s not as much about Obama’s appeal as it is about not trusting the Clintons.
It’s hard to realize the person you support most is loosing the election.
However, the feeling of empowerment to make needed changes far outweighs anything Hillary can do at this point–negative for Obama or positive for herself.
No turning back, no turning back.

Olsten – the feds arrested and charged two online bloggers with sedition in the past. Right now the feds are focused on the IRS investigation of TUCC and Wright and perhaps they think that may be enough. I have no idea what the FBI is or is not doing with regards to Wright. In my opinion, after seeing several videos, and reading the TUCC and Trumpet magazine information prior to the site being scrubbed, Wright did more than the two bloggers who were arrested for sedition. Right after the videos were made public, Wright left the country immediately. When his return was scheduled for appearances in the USA, he cancelled them. Looks like “duck and run” to me. I still think Senator Obama should have used better judgment on the entire association with a church who violated federal law (Obama participated in the violation) by campaigning in the church itself as well as any questionable association with a man who could be guilty of sedition. Free speech still has limits within the law… not just sedition but also other aspects including libel, slander, and defamation. Any US Senator should disassociate from questionable characters they chose to be around while they violate the law.

Mr. Cheney, if anything goes “boom” between now and November, the world will look straight at you and your agents. For your grandchildren, confess now and the tribunal will consider the circumstances of “peak oil” in your sentence. Either way, your legacy is beyond “appalling”.

Did Chaney discuss the current revelations about torture and how he authorized it? And how the hell can a VP authorize anything? Isn’t that illegal?
Chaney has no more right to appear on TV than Joseph Mengala, if morality had anything to do with politics. The good news is the guy is on his way out. I hope he moves to Argentina or wherever Nazis go when they retire.

To the guy that thinks that for some reason Cheney and his cronies haven’t been indicted because they haven’t done anything wrong- it must be a magical dream world you live in my friend! Imagine this little scenario for one moment shall we? Since Dubya has already shown us he has no problem pardoning his “cronies” perhaps Congress has decided that sometimes it is better to wait. Perhaps they have been stockpiling all of this beautiful evidence year after year, horror after horror and keeping it nice and safe.Waiting , just waiting for the day that good old Bushes pardoning skills fail him- cuz buddy you don’t have that type of power anymore. Then our new President is in office ( in my mind it is Obama, but you may picture Hillary if that is your thing) and things start to change. Troops are being withdrawn, the energy crisis is being addressed, and perhaps I begin to make more money working a job everday than people do on unemployment.. oh and while our new President is busy doing all of these wonderful things to “get the country back on the right track” he/she says Let’s not forget about the war crimes…let’s not forget about the atrocities …and don’t worry- there are NO pardons here. See that scenario to me seems a thousand percent more believable then the one where you say The Bush Administration has done nothing wrong.

Obama has never once espoused any of the negative views held by Rev. Wright. And yet he has led a life that reflects the good work of Rev. Wright and his church. He is able to see the good in someone, and disregard the bad. We all have both inside of us. The only way we can move forward as a nation united is if we can all admit this fundamental truth. Let’s stop being so judgemental of each other, look inside and look for solutions.

I am appalled that Vice President responded to the fact that the majority of the American people do not approve of the war in Iraq with, “So.”
It appears to me that the Reverend Wright story is conveniently reintroduced by politicians, yesterday, Lanny Davis, today, Vice President Cheyney whenever they want to divert the attention of the American people that face all Americans and return us to the politics of division and fear.
Think about it, why is the Reverend Wright controversy still considered “news”?
Gas prices are nearing $4.00 a gallon.
85,000 jobs last month
We are beginning our sixth year in the War in Iraq
And Vice President Cheney wants to now “weigh in” on Reverend Wright. Let’s get back to the real issues.

Merle07 I think we all know the Rev.Wright comments will not go away because Hannity and Colmes,Bill o’reilly,Fox news and some of you that think Mccain is the best thing since sliced bread will not let it go away. Some of you are so upset because Rev.Wright didn’t pretty it up for you all when he spoke about 911 and good Ol America.God is truly sick and tired of some of the things going on in good ol America.

Cheney and his neocon thugs need torture for two reasons: 1) to intimidate domestic opposition and 2) to force confessions from “terrorists” to justify the fraudulent “war on terror”.
Posted by: ghostof911 | April 11, 2008, 8:53 am 8:53 am
Cheney has pointed out that Wright is a vile human being with no morals – approves of hating this country and teaches young children to hate. Just look at what is going on with children murdering children on the southside of Chicago. Children are learning to hate on Sunday mornings while sitting in church pews. And Obama has shown he’s deaf to reality if he can sit in that church for 20 years and not understand the hate being preached.

Please. Cheney would say the same about Dr. Martin Luther King then. After all, MLK said alot of the same things during the civil rights movement. Take out the inflamatory parts of Rev. Wright statements and examine what is the truth.

Jessy, thank you for your post,You explained his sermon perfectly.God is not happy with all the mess going on in good ol America. When Rev.Wright preached about 911 and good ol America,he didn’t sugar coat it,he spoke nothing but the truth.People have heard the 911 tragedy as it pertains to America sugarcoated so much, that they couldn’t take real talk, some thought it was appalling but it was just a dose of reality. It’s like people don’t even fear God anymore, everyone’s just doing their own thing with no regards or no concern about what is and what is not of God.

Mike Huckabee on Rev. Jeremiah Wright, March 19, 2008
“And one other thing I think we’ve got to remember: As easy as it is for those of us who are white to look back and say, “That’s a terrible statement,” I grew up in a very segregated South, and I think that you have to cut some slack. And I’m going to be probably the only conservative in America who’s going to say something like this, but I’m just telling you: We’ve got to cut some slack to people who grew up being called names, being told, “You have to sit in the balcony when you go to the movie. You have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant. And you can’t sit out there with everyone else. There’s a separate waiting room in the doctor’s office. Here’s where you sit on the bus.” And you know what? Sometimes people do have a chip on their shoulder and resentment. And you have to just say, I probably would too. I probably would too. In fact, I may have had a more, more of a chip on my shoulder had it been me.” – Mike Huckabee

For the first time in my 64 years on this earth, I will vote Republican.
All the Rev Wrigth, Rezko, Farakhan, etc. has not fully come out about him. And when the Republicans start, and it will soon, they will pound and pound this into the news Daily. It is Not gonna go away as the B Hussien supporters hope.

Cheney says words are appalling. I say that Cheney’s actions are appalling. He is a self serving, coniving criminal and belongs behind bars. How about lying to promote a war that serves only the business masters that he serves? Want to talk about racism? In addition to the over 4,000 precious American lives lost there have been more than 700,000 Iraqi’s killed so far. That doesn’t seem to have an impact on the Neo-Cons or much of the American public, I guess because many of the ignorant think that the Iraqi’s are just worthless “A-Rabs” as they say. The Iraqi people are just like you and me; mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands and wives. They have dreams and aspirations and hope for a world with peace and happiness. The criminals that have totally disregarded and urinated on the Constitution like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Condaleeza, and so on and so on will have their judgment day soon. Heed the words of Thomas Jefferson who once said: “The energies of the nation shall be reserved for improvement of the condition of man, not wasted in his destruction.”

When did it become unpatriotic to criticize our government? Dissent is important. Falwell and Robertson claimed that 9/11 happened because of all of the gay people in America, I think Wright’s claims that our flawed foreign policies contributed to 9/11 happening is closer to the truth than the garbage spewed by those two religious noodniks. If we can’t look at ourselves in a critical way how do we improve? That doesn’t make Wright’s hateful comments right but it doesn’t make him a traitor either. We are guarenteed the right to speak freely about what we feel is wrong.

Let’s be FRANK and HONEST here my fellow AMERICANS, how many of you do not have relatives, friends, and/or associates who have not made disparging racial comments or dissatisfaction with America in LESS TACTIFUL tones????… Yet, do we cut those people off or just take it with a grain of salt and look at the overall view of the person and their deeds???…….. On the other hand, if Hillary wins the nomination, it will finally be the wake-up call for voting African-Americans in this country…. I think this is the first election that many African-Americans are finally paying attention to the issues. Why? Because they are being forced to with this long drawn out battle in the democratic primary…. I think African-Americans are finally seeing that the democratic party has taken their vote for granted for so many years. This is why Obama is so enticing. He is not really pandering to African-Americans. They just happen to be supporting him. Yes, part of it is pride due to the kinship, but mainly because of his message…. Now if Hillary wins, I feel many African-Americans will defect to John McCain, not necessarily the Republican party, but to McCain. Why? because he is not a typical Republican… Just like Obama is not a typical Democrat…… This maybe the end of the Democratic party’s reliance on the “black vote”….

Where’s all the posters roasting McCain for his endorsement from Pastor John Hagee who says that all non-Christians are going to HELL and that Israel has a right to commit atrocities against the Palestinians, without batting an eye? I’m a christian, conservative, registered Republican and even I have a problem with THAT! Far, far more than Wright’s sermon to his congregation. It wasn’t a televised national speech, it was a sermon on a pulpit in a church… BIG difference. I’m not even going to vote for Obama, but I think giving McCain a free pass when his preacher has condemmed FAR more people (Catholics, Muslims, Buddhists, etc., etc.), is far worse and worth condemming in evey way publicly. But then again I fall back to reason as my guide, and I don’t rely on the newspaper OR FOX news for my information.

(1) approved torture(breaking the rules of Nato)
(2) circumvented the constitution regarding search and wiretapping
(3) lied to the American people about the war and (God only knows what else).
—-
Wright has :
(1) said God damn American
(2) made some racial remarks, in a sermon, at a church, that upset some white people.
hummmmm
I am willing to say that Cheney is the worst of the two. I can handle a pastor that uses theatrics, I have NO use for someone who takes away my constitutional rights.

Can Obama really be a leader to a nation of such colorful people when he had made such a horrific judgement to allow hate to spread against some of those people based on the color of their skin and their religious belief? Cheney is a pig and the last person who should talk about Reverend Wright’s comments about racism in America. What does Cheney know about the lives of real people? Nothing. Cheney is so far removed from being a decent human being that he of all people should not be criticizing anyone. Cheney got us into the war in Iraq by intimidating the intelegence community with his daily visits to the CIA and “suggestions” that they look harder for ties to 9/11 and Iraq. When the intelegence community said that Iraq had nothing to do with it, Cheney fabricated the yellow cake platonium story to make the case for weapons of mass destruction so the American people would be fooled into attacking Iraq. 4,000 young American military men and women have died in Iraq in the last 5 years and what does Cheney have to say? “They volunteered.” Cheney advocates torture, and sent young ment and women to die so that his cronies could make a bunch of money in Iraq while the tax payers pay for it – billions!! Bush is not that bright and Cheney took advantage of a president with limited intellegance to run his own agenda in the White House. This man is the worst thing that every happened to America and history will show it.

Google up her being fired for hiding evidence while working on Nixon’s impeachment for the Justice dept. If you would believe her she fought with the 300 Spartans, was the sole survivor of the Alamo, single-handedly hammered down the Berlin wall and it was her, not Eli Manning that led the Giants to the Super Bowl win. Any lie she’s is caught in was just “misremembering”. Is that even a word or was it made up by Mr. Testosterone, Roger Clemens? Bottom Line: She thinks Americans are stupid.

“torturing” (a procedure navy seals indure as part of their training until the the keyboard warriors complained)3 men with water boarding and slaps totally ignores the fact that the enemy kills and tortures all of our soldiers when captured. Those 3 men killed 0ver 3000 on 9/11. Only arm chair moralist and keyboard warriors are offended. Obama would have paid more attention to the radical moslem killers than he would to who they kill. Would have he has…..Obama is toast stick a fork in the Chicago radical leftist whose father left him as did his mother and the typical white person grandma raised him and sent him to Harvard. While his wife beat out white folks through affirmative action and went on to get a pay raise of 100,000 to 300,000 2 months after Obama was elected to the Senate. Thats Change…hardly and neither is having your mansion financed by Tony Rizzo. Can’t wait until the general election where the republicans will exspose this egomaniac as all talk and no walk…..by the way I am Independent….and we don’t like Obama more and more…just look at the polls…

I can tell by the posts here that not too many here KNOW their US history. This nation has a long history of human rights abuses, aggression, warmongering, genocide, etc etc and ALL backed by the leadership of the time. While noble and wonderful, the “American Dream” has yet to manifest itself. What Rev. Wright said hurts dunnit? It doesn’t feel good to have someone condemn your nation… the nation many of our sons and daughters died “serving” int he military for. Like an alcoholic who is called out on his problem, we deny and become indignant when it is pointed out to us in public. My recommendation to ALL OF YOU is to get yourself a REAL history book, like Howard Zinn’s: A People’s History of the United States, and EDUCATE YOURSELF! You will find that we have a LOOOOOONG way to go before we can rightfully hold our heads up high on behalf of what our leadership stands for.

No, Cheney. YOU are appalling. You have been stealing from the American taxpayer and sacrificing American lives for far too long. You ordered your subordinates to put the lives of CIA operatives in danger just to satisfy your political ambitions, and when they were found guilty you had your lackey Bush pardon them. And then you laughed about it, because you have zero respect for the Constitution. You should have been impeached long ago. I hope that the next time you visit Europe you are arrested and tried just like Pinochet. And when that happens we will all say, so! Justice will finally have been served.

Be careful: if you swallow too much, you will eventually get sick.

In Rev. Wright’s comment “God damn America,” means that the small god (satan) is already damned and it is he (satan) that damns America because America is doing a lot of satan’s work, i.e., to steal, to kill, and to destroy. The Lord Jesus Christ is Love but the Lord will take the hedge off this country or any other country if these countries continue in these senseless wars. The Bible declares that wars are caused by sin. The media and of course sean hannity are being used by satan. The USA is not a christian nation and the USA is not the chosen nation, therefore, the USA must repent and get to know the Lord Most High. Amen

This man has been Vice-President of the United States for 8 long years because Americans are obsessed about following “The Rules!” Al Gore won more popular votes than George Bush, but Bush became President due to the Electroal College.
If Obama’s people keep pressing on about following the rules, and that he should be the Nominee because he has more Pledged Delegates, the next President of the United States will be John McCain. Barack Obama has no chance of winning Ohio, Pennsylvania or Florida. Bye bye

If you don’t think that Rev. Wright teaches racist occults at his church, Try this…
The Rev. Wright’s church conducts an annual practice of LIBATIONS, to call up the spirits of the dead SLAVES. He really wants this country to pay blacks back for slavery. He is a leader in support of REPARATIONS. I guess Obama was not there at service on these days either…
By the way, would Obama be eligible for Reparations since his mother of father were BLACK SLAVES? His family did not come across the water on slaves ships.

Hillary Clinton gets nailed for answering a question about Rev. Wright; she was accused of digging up a “dead subject.” Now Cheney answers a question about it so let’s see what happens to him. As for Beijing, Obama is taking a wait and see attitude, he’s not saying anything about boycotting the opening ceremony, which is what Clinton was calling for.

Obama…didn’t have a church was advised that he would do better to select one…Obama was advised Rev Wright was a former Muslim and Black Nationalist. Rev Wright felt he could do more from a Christian church than as jsut a Black Nationalist…..Obama made the decision to align with Rev Wright’s church …their agendas were similar…Rev Wright became Obama’s mentor and advisor. …Great article yesterday on these facts at Real Clear Politics. Makes you to understand …it was never an issue as to what sermons Obama was in the service for….He agreed and chose Rev Wright accordingly.

The people in this forum calling the vice president of the United States a war criminal, torturer, etc. are delusional.
He was freely elected by the voters of the country. Deal with it.
And if either Hillary or Obama is your nominee, watch your hopes of gaining the presidency go up in smoke. They’re both horrible candidates who lie about their positions (past, present and future), lack integrity and have left-wing beliefs that are far out of the American mainstream. Of course, this provokes paroxysms of love from the type of leftist loons that post in forums like this.
Americans don’t want a racist or another Clinton for their president. Sorry if the truth hurts.
Posted by: ajmalkov | April 11, 2008, 2:41 pm 2:41 pm
I agree that
Cheyney has done more to hurt America than any Vice President before him.
Obama is no longer electable due to the Rev. Wright episode. Obama says that words are powerful and a person is what he says. If Obama believes in this then how can he not disown Rev. Wright completely. In case of Rev. Wright the words suddenly do not matter – the person behind the words becomes more important!
If Obama becomes the nominee, Republican’s will play up this weakness and this will reverberate in all white households. Obama will not be elected.

In the grand scheme, which does more damage to the country, saying “God Damn America” in a speech or voting to approve torture while sitting in the White House?
Cheney should know all about “appalling”, unfortunately his ACTIONS are appalling while Wrights speeches are appalling.
And McSame gets a pass, saying he is against torture while he voted AGAINST a ban on torture. That is more anti-American than ANY speech no matter how appalling.
Posted by: Jaded | April 11, 2008, 3:14 pm 3:14 pm
I am not a Republican. But on this one, I totally agree with the Vice President. Wright’s sermons are totally unacceptable, and Obama cannot be our President as he apparentlly felt okay with Wright’s sermons and stayed in that church full of hate sermons for 20 years. Whatever happened so long ago DOES NOT justify that kind of sermons in a church, which encourage the people from one group to hate another group. This is NOT acceptable in this country! Also, President Bush’s decision on Beijing Olympic is a good one. We gain nothing for not going, simple as that. Those extreme left-wing people should relax; should learn to pick the fights that really matters, like what’s going on with our ecomnomy and what’s going on in Iraq.

Posted by: Fred Atkins | April 11, 2008, 3:25 pm 3:25 pm
In the grand scheme, it is so very harmful to say “G-d Damn America.” And I’d like to know what your definition of torture is. It should not be deemed or identified as torture when what’s being done is to get information from a known terroist or criminal that would save people etc. from a deadly action. War is not a game of tiddly winks. The enemy is not bare-handing a person. We are talking about terroists who will stoop at nothing to destroy each and every American person, building, foundation, or ideology. Don’t even talk to me about torture. Torture is used against “animals” and for good reason; to make sure our country is safe from terrible destruction and harm at their and their comrades’ hands. Hello…. must we put up a picture of the World Trade Center on September 11th to remind you idiots just what these “people” are capable of doing? Has everyone lost their minds? We are at war with a terrible enemy and if it takes “torture” to protect ourselves from them, then that is what we should do. We are not here to win a popularity contest.

Momick – No, torture is NOT for animals. You would be arrested for doing that, or for treating animals the way a lot of the detainees are treated. My main concern is not whether we torture terrorists; the problem is we torture, or at least treat inhumanly, people who have not been proven guilty in a fair trial. Some of them may well be terrorists, but many are probably not. That is not what America is all about.

Posted by: Bruce | April 11, 2008, 3:38 pm 3:38 pm
It’s not a matter of whether Obama is “intelligent” or not. It’s not a matter of being afraid of Bush or Cheney. You say you’re going to vote for him because he is intelligent. O.k. What is it about him that you like? O.k., he’s a good speaker. He mingles well with a crowd. But what is he all about? What is his platform? What will he do for the American people? He has not committed to a stance on anything substantive. What will he do about the current shape of the economy? What will he do about the borders? What will he do about anything? He has not told the American people anything. All he talks about is Change. That’s all fine and good but what change does he want to make? This man has not committed to anything because he does not have any experience. You say you like him because he’s intelligent. Great. We have an intelligent man with two years as a Senator, no military or foreign policy experience. Nothing more. This man is not up to the challenges of a presidency. Hitler was intelligent and a good speaker too. Remember?

People, it all amounts to this. Educate yourselves about the candidates. Educate yourselves about the Iraq War, the Vietnam War, the border issues. Educate yourselves about the economy, about race relations, about the candidates. If you can blog, you can take time to learn. This is a very important election coming up this November with many important issues. Arm yourselves with knowledge about the issues. Then, you’ll be able to choose a candidate. Emotion feeds into everything we do but with electing a President, we must do our homework so we know who we are voting for. The American people are smart and will do what is best for the country. But education is our most important asset and now with technology, we have the means to question things; we have the means to learn; we have the means to search for answers. We owe it to ourselves to learn as much as possible. That way, when we blog, we can intelligently discuss the issues and we can go to our respective voting booths and vote with confidence for our favorite and the most worthy candidate. This is our G-d given right.

What did Bush and Cheney do about our borders? What did Bush and Cheney do about our Economy? What did Bush and Cheney do about our INFLATED American Dollar? What did Bush and Cheney do about high gasoline prices? I can go on and on! They both constantly lie and lie and lie. I know that we cannot afford another 4 more years of a “Bush and Cheney Virtual” Economy. We now have the highest deficit in the history of America and Bush and Cheney are responsible for it not Obama! Bush promised a balanced buget in 4 years! I saw and heard him say this but now his story has changed once again. Bush and Cheney may be able to brag about experience but they obviously have NO INTELLIGENCE! Look at the mess that they have created!
What I really like about Obama is that he doesn’t change “certain” views on “specifics” like the war in Iraq, health care and the economy but most of all he seems to want to work together as a team player and not a foolish “bull headed idiot” wearing blinders. We need someone in “Office” that can Unite both Parties together for the “good of America”. I know it may be a hard “thing” to do but Obama “strikes” me as the only one that may be capable of doing this.

I support the many lies told by Hillary: Bosnia, NAFTRA, against the Iraq war from the beginning, her secret support for the free-trade agreement for which and her husband receive $800,000.00. Her non-ties with Hsu, now on trial for fraud. Her $2300.00 “contributions” from poor Chinese dish washers.

The Democrats have gone down this road many times before. They will nominate another leftist and that candidate will lose. Humphrey, McGovern, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry and now Hillobama. Obama’s color and his tendancy to listen to paranoid conspiracy theories is not his problem. His problem is that he is just another typical leftist. Democrats should wise up.

Cheney is awesome. Love the guy. Hope he goes back into the oil business and makes us even more money. Owned Haliburton and that was a 7 bagger while he was the head man. Isn’t America great. Wright is true scum and a sleazy race baiter along the lines of David Duke and Jesse Jackson. Maybe Jesse, Wright, Duke and Obama can all get together for dinner and churn for ideas on how to make us all hate each other.

Get used to this being a story 7×24.
This story will never be “old” as much as the Obama supporters would wish it.
And, there can never be enough “context” to justify the Reverend’s remarks.
Ever.
I hope Axelrod is polling for realistic data that will open their eyes to the battle that awaits Obama should he win the nomination. It’s not in the bag by any means.

The 2008 election was supposed to be a referendum on Iraq and the GOP and a landslide for the Democrats. Instead Barack Obama has made it a referendum on Black people and their mentality of militant victim hood. This mentality has clearly -jumped the shark- in an America where Asians are wealthier than Whites, where Hispanics outnumber Blacks, and where Black immigrants from Africa and Caribbean come here voluntarily and do well.
Martin Luther King was a great American. MLK would never have stood and listen to haters without speaking up. Obama’s spiritual advisor like Wright, Meeks, Jackson, Sharpton are discrediting what MLK stood for in life. These haters are opening the gates to something that is not health for America.
Somewhere, Martin Luther King is hanging his head in despair that the movement he worked so hard and gave his life for has been hijacked by HATRED.

That’s about the right number of idiots from those states that would vote for the racist O-bomb. The only ones who have not had their voting rights revoked for being a convicted felon. What about the others Let’s see…there are 4.6 million people in Georgia and 4.5 million in Alabama….what you gonna do about those people? Ummm, isn’t it a coincidence (wink wink nudge nudge) that he happens to pull out this story today, when news came out the the buck stopped with Cheney as far as approving torture of other human beings?
Is anybody paying attention at all? Aren’t reporters connecting the dots at all? Who decides what is “news” these days?
Why is Cheney’s opinion on a presidential candidate’s ex-pastor newsworthy rather than news today that Cheney has blood on his hands?
Torture, people.

Democrats promised to balance the budget and eliminate earmarks. None of that happened.
Democrats control Congress and its approval ratings are in the 20s (lower than Bush’s).
The states with the highest unemployment rates are the ones controlled by Democrats: California, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Michigan.
The states with the lowest unemployment rates are the ones controlled by Republicans: Texas and Florida
Texas with its business-friendly policies created jobs the last three months while the rest of country lost jobs. More jobs and businesses are moving from high tax states to low tax states. If you want a good paying job and you are not a Democrat, please move to Texas. We have plenty of jobs.
Obama and Clinton promise higher taxes, which will only send more jobs overseas. Money is portable and if businesses can’t compete in the U.S., capital will flow even faster to other countries. Democrats also promise to restrict free trade, which will only destruct jobs in the U.S. Restricting free trade means that other countries won’t want to do business in the U.S. A policy, Smoot-Hawley, that lead to the Great Depression restricted trade. NAFTA was supposedly going to ruin the working class. It didn’t. The unemployment rate is low and much lower than Europe’s unemployment rate.
Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are unfunded entitlement programs that run close to 50 trillion dollars in liabilities. Nobody talks about how these programs are adding to the national debt. So, the Democrats propose universal health care to add to this debt burden. It is like someone already maxed out on three credit cards opening a new credit card account. Can you say new payroll tax?
On national security, people still trust the Republicans more than Democrats on national security. It also doesn’t help that Obama’s pastor is friends with Libyan leader, Gaddafi. He is the one that refused to hand over terrorists that detonated an airplane bomb over Scotland. There were 270 victims. Obama and his wife should have quit the church a long time ago. Any reasonable person that ever knew of Wright’s connections to terrorist leaders and his irrational views on America would have left. This will be a big issue in the upcoming election.
These are the issues that will decide the national election. The “Bush is a war criminal” mantra by the left that so effectively defeated him in 2004 won’t be.
Lastly, if you are one of those people that feel that you are a victim. If you feel that you cannot get ahead because of someone else. If you feel that there is inequality because someone else is successful and you are not, then you do belong in the Democratic Party. They are the ones that will make the successful people pay for your health care insurance, college, room and board, dental, Medicare, Medicaid and retirement. They will even give you tax credits to have babies. Just remember at the end of the day this will only lead to a weaker America. No one wins in a Socialist / Communist society. The incentive to work and invest in America won’t be there because the tax burden will be too high. As a result, the quality of life will decline. Sure, if you get sick, you will eventually get treated for free. You may have to wait a while for the government administrator to approve your paper work. Also, you may not be comfortable waiting in the un-air-conditioned hospital (like they have in France).
I look forward to the debates.

Darth Vader doesn’t want to give the Jeremiah Wright verbal outbreak a rest. Why should he? He believes with every fiber of his being that he sets the agenda for the Republican Party. Cheney’s done so in this administration. His former company, Haliburton, is making money hand over foot, being protected by private security forces in Iraq–forces that get our enlisted servicemen and women in trouble by THEIR actions. If Cheney wants to keep the money flowing for the military industrial complex, and he does, he’ll find a bone and chew on it down to the marrow, just like a pit bull. But while Cheney was getting FIVE deferments from serving in the armed forces, Jeremiah Wright was fighting in Viet Nam as a Marine. So, if a person fights for his country, he cannot criticize the country when he sees it going wrong? Cheney can hide behind the flag of patriotism all he wants, but when he was selected to enlist, he got cold feet. Wright interupted his college education to VOLUNTEER to fight for our country. Give me a break! Give the jeremiah Wright verbal outbreak a rest!

Five years after the start of the war in Iraq, Vice President Cheney offered a positive assessment of the current situation and called last year’s troop surge a “major success.”

“On the security front, I think there’s a general consensus that we’ve made major progress, that the surge has worked. That’s been a major success,” Cheney told ABC News’ Martha Raddatz during an exclusive interview in Oman.
When asked how that assessment comports with recent polls that show about two-thirds of Americans say the fight in Iraq is not worth it, Cheney replied, “So?”
“You don’t care what the American people think?” Raddatz asked the vice president.
“You can’t be blown off course by polls,” said Cheney, who is currently on a tour of the Middle East. “This president is very courageous and determined to go the course. There has been a huge fundamental change and transformation for the better. That’s a huge accomplishment.”
Conclusion: Cheney is worse than Rev. Wright. Our young men & women die and he has no respect for their sacrifices. He only cares about how much Haliburton makes in Iraq.

thastar,
You can’t be further from the truth. You say that because Obama stayed in his church for 20 years then he MUST think the same way as his reverend. I am a 66-year-old Catholic woman who has been in the same church for my entire life. Guess what? I stayed here even after one of our priests was transferred for his involvement in molesting boys. I had heard the whispers and of course “I knew” what was going on. Everyone knew. I tried to mitigate it by telling myself how much good he did over the years for the community and society by bringing people closer to Christ and God. Every time some one talks about what Obama “SHOULD HAVE DONE” or “SHOULD HAVE KNOWN” I think about all the other Catholics in shoes similar to mine. I am no hypocrite and I certainly am in no position to judge any other human being. Obviously, you feel you are.

Rev Wright “absolutely appalling”
No kidding .. !!
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE, I AGREE WITH CHENEY.
Posted by: InAgreementWithCheney | April 13, 2008, 2:33 pm 2:33 pm
Coleen, many of us would have gotten up from your church and Barack’s church and left a long time ago. It isn’t a matter of judging, but it does speak about a person’s character. Barack has made a lot of poor choices when picking friends. Explain to me why he would ever NEED to be friends with a slumlord? Explain to me why he somehow NEVER heard the things his pastor has said on tape, or has put in their church bulletin. Barack has admitted he never reads literature coming from his church. I find that impossible. Even as a child, I remember reading what was going on within our church and I was rarely sitting in the pew. None of this adds up. We are not discussing a job as dog catcher of the year. Anybody running for president of this country should be able to stand by his/her actions, or lack of actions or at least give us a darn good reason why they failed to do the right thing.
Posted by: Susan | April 13, 2008, 2:35 pm 2:35 pm
So Susan, because I saw the best in the man who was my priest and not the worst, then you question my character? Wow, you truly are holier than I am. I am so glad that everything is so cut and dried for you. Sure, you would have left my church but I like millions of other Catholics did no such thing. I guess that allows you to question every Catholic who had a problem or questions about the child molestations by their priests and others but still sat in those pews every Sunday. I’m glad your life is so easy.

SO ……….
fiery rhetoric = appalling…………………
4000 dead Americans (more than 5X the number killed in 9/11) , tens of thousands of serious injuries to American citizens, hundreds of thousands of dead innocent Iraqis, taking America into an unjust and unprovoked war for personal reasons and ordering honorable American military to commit war crimes = ?????????
Can anyone think of a word for it, because compared to the appalling deeds of the reverend Wright I think the English language fails to have one strong enough
it’s a sad statement that there are 3 times as many posts on this subject as there are on the fact that Cheney Okayed the torturing of prisoners.
Posted by: vernonwerge | April 13, 2008, 9:36 pm 9:36 pm
The Roman Catholic Church has had several Priests sexually molest people. I sit in on a pew, in a Roman Catholic Church and you’re going to BLAME ME????? I did not sexually molest anyone. How many Priests were thrown in Jail for these crimes? I’m still sitting on the pew! Is it my fault? Obama has nothing to do with what his minister said and so what if his minister said bad things about Bush. His Minister did not sexually multistate anyone AND BUY OFF VICTOMS! Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!

98% of what Cheney says is appalling!
98% of what Rev. Wright says is right on!
Cheney didn’t go into the military and it wasn’t because he was a conscientious objector.
Wright did 6 years in the military.
Do the math. Who is the real patriot?

This is very sad… to question any American loyalty because they see things another way. We all know someone who have shed blood in defense of this country. We all lover this country, just because some one point out some imperfections do not label them unpatriotic.
Posted by: bob | April 28, 2008, 1:37 pm 1:37 pm
What are the offensive comments that Rev. Wright made? Its good to hear someone speak other than politicians or from those who have different opinions rather than main stream. Let’s face it the US is not the best country in the world. The mainstream says how great we are because we have our freedom. Freedom to do what? Freedom to vote for a person that is qualified to be a used car salesman, and the horrible thing is we actually elected him. We are free to go against the UN and numerous other countries and invade Iraq on the belief that they could do the US harm. With what and how? Maybe invade us with the use of paddle boats. Here is the thing we are an avarice nation. While numerous countries in the world are starving we are squabbling over whether or not we should eat at Red Lobster again or not. Where is the love and compassion for others? Where is the heart of our government? Just follow the money and I think you will find it.
