Complainin’ Clintons Fault Obama for Complaining
The former first couple is amused with the fact that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, and his supporters were chagrined at the line of questions coming his way during Wednesday night’s debate.
On Fox 29 in Philadelphia this morning, ABC News’ Eloise Harper reports, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, said of Obama, "I know he spent all day yesterday complaining about the hard questions he was asked. Being asked tough questions in a debate is nothing like the pressures you face inside the White House. In fact, when the going gets tough, you just can’t walk away because we’re going to have some very tough decisions that we have to make. I think we need a president who can take whatever comes your way. …When the going gets tough you can’t run away."
And ABC News’ Sarah Amos reports that from front porch of an American Legion Hall in St. Mary’s, Penn., Thursday, former President Bill Clinton said, "When I watched that debate last night, I got kinda tickled when the other guy’s – after the [debate], her opponents’, oh, the people working were saying, ‘Oh this is so negative, why are they doing this.’ Well they’ve been beatin’ up on her for 15 months. I didn’t hear her whining when he said she was untruthful in Iowa."
If you haven’t heard whining from your wife or from the Clinton campaign, Mr. President, then with all due respect, you haven’t been paying attention.
The Clintons and the Clinton campaign have been complaining about the media and tough questions and the like for months. It’s one of their talking points, for the love of Pete.
After a November debate when Clinton — then the clear frontrunner — was attacked by the many other Democrats on stage, the Clinton campaign even put together a youtube video complaining of the "Politics of Pile-on."
And at the Cleveland debate seven weeks ago, Clinton complained that she always got the first question, and about the media coverage in general.
Bill Clinton has whined about the media coverage so much and often it would be difficult to list every example. In a February interview with WMAL radio in Washington DC, the former president griped that "the political press has avowedly played a role in this election. I’ve never seen this before…they’ve been active participants in this election, and you know what the objective studies done."
Back then, of course, Sen. Obama was of course sounding a different tune, telling NBC that Clinton was saying "Don’t pick on me" while his campaign issued a memo saying, "the ‘politics of hope’ doesn’t mean hoping you don’t have to answer tough questions.
Emails Clinton campaign spox Jay Carson: "Our complaint about coverage has always been that the press wasn’t tough on Obama, not that they were too tough on us. These two are running for president and should expect tough questions and if Obama and his campaign are going to whine like this about what are some of the first actual tough questions he has gotten in a debate, how on earth would he stand up to the Republicans’ withering attacks in a general election? Obama withered under questioning on Wednesday and with all due respect to Stephanopoulos and Gibson, the RNC and John McCain are a lot tougher than they are."

I think it is ironic that Bill Clinton could say that he and his wife don’t whine about the media, when Bill Clinton and Senator Clinton publicly accused the media of being too soft on Senator Barack just a couple of months ago. Either Pres. Clinton is suffering from pre-senility or he just lies so much that it is very difficult for him to keep track of them. I would rather believe the latter.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! ABC! You were awesome! Charlie Gibson and George Stephenopolous — you reminded me of a Peter Jennings — a Tom Brokaw. Real Gold Journalists; unlike the junior anchors on MSNBC; specifically speaking; Chris Matthews, David Schuster, Keith Olberman, sometimes Kate Walsh.
Joe Scarborough is excluded from the MSNBC nameslist. He is the only reason that I watch MSNBC. I turn off the others. Keep up the good work and keep asking the hard-discerning questions.

Him giving the finger to an opponent during a speech is more than immature it’s dangerous from a future President ofthe United States.
If he behaved like this were he President, it could start a war.
This gesture is unpresidential.

In fact, I think wars have been started and bombs have been dropped for a lot less than that gesture.
ABC news and the MSM need to report on this latest “gaffe” although it totally deliberate.
Let people watch the video and decide for themselves what the crowd and Mr Obama couldhave found so amusing other than his middle finger on the side of his face while he criticised Hillary Clinton.
He’ll say he did nothing wrong. So does every disrespectful school boy who does this to his teacher in class.
Anyone who has been in a high school classroom has seen it before.
He is unpresidential.

I thought the debate last night showed yet again the elistism and arrogance of Mr. Obama. If it is not a prepared speech he shows he has no grasp of the issues and of what is going on in this country yet alone the world.
Anyone with a basic financial education knows that raising the capital gains tax will reek havoc on the middle class that works hard for there money and just wants to hold on to it for their future.
As we go thourgh a rough economic patch right now the answer is not to increase taxes but to reduce them or leave them alone. His plan would drive mortgage rates through the roof and stoke inflation to heights we don’t want to go.
On the world front the last time I heard a pesidential candidate talk as wonderfully as Mr. Obama was Jimmy Carte. The results of that presidency was mortgage rates above 10% and rampant inflation. Not to mention that terrorism came out of the closet(Iran hostage crisis) and started that ball rolling right up to 9/11 and beyond.
I’m sure a Barack presidency will do even more harm to this country and this world.

If Sen. Obama had complaints about the line of questionind during the debate he had every reason to. I was disappointed that the moderators spent so much time – 45 mins.- on things that do not matter. Why did no questions discuss what’s happening with the airline industry? Why were there no questions on the foreclosure/housing crisis or the bailout of Behr-Sternes? Instead I had to hear Obama explain why he doesn’t wear a flag lapel pin. And – not one question about gasoline prices.
Gibson then talked about running out of ttime. ABC hosted a gossip show rather tthan a debate.

so according to all the obamaites we should ignore that his uncle frank in his book was frank davis communist party usa, that his father that he looks up to was a marxist and lost his job in kenya because of his politics, that in college he sought out the marxist professers[his words]that he joined a black liberation church that equates or using the bomb to end WWII with osamas terror among other un american posistions.and stays a member for 20 years.that the first time he was introduced to the public to run for office it was in the livingroom of a unrepentant terrorist that says he did not set enough bombs and last but not least he has a 17 year association with a man that let a 33 unit apt complex go without heat in a chicago winter for 33 days yet could give obama a $1000 contibution during the same time and that same person while under investigation by the feds for public corrution helps obama with a very questionable house and land deal and that same person having very strong ties to very shady middle east money men.now when you look at all of this in total it is a very disturbing picture.pray obamaites tell me why i should vote for saint obama and why i should condem ABC for doing their journalistic job!

Haha – here’s what George Stephanopolous had to say back in the day when he was still working for Bill Clinton:
“What he’s going to do in this campaign is focus on what’s important to the American people, on the jobs and the education. That’s what the American people care about. They want to move into the future. They don’t want to be diverted by side issues, and they’re not going to let the Republican attack machine divert them.”
Nowadays he has totally adapted to Hillary politics! That’s why she was totally in her element in what the rest of America saw as the worst presidential debate EVER on national television!

The Clinton’s complaining about Obama complaining? Obama wasn’t complaining that the questions were hard, he’s been questioning the relevance of the first 45 minutes of the debate. Frankly, so has the rest of America. As far as the finger and the lapel pin. Looks like Silly Season is in full swing.

“We need a president who is going to be up there fighting every day for the American people and not complain about how much pressure there is, and how hard the questions are.
FEBRUARY:
“”Well,” she responded, her voice rising, “could I just point out that, in the last several debates, I seem to get the first question all the time? And I don’t mind. You know, I’ll be happy to field them, but I do find it curious. And if anybody saw ‘Saturday Night Live,’ you know, maybe we should ask Barack if he’s comfortable and needs another pillow.”"

Still doesn’t make Obama’s whining any more attractive. In fact Obama’s tendency to alternate between whining and mocking others makes him look cocky, petulant and immature. The only thing “new” about his politics is his resume–there’s virtually nothing on it. Otherwise, he has all the moves down–lying (“I didn’t see that form” “I wasn’t aware of the controversial remarks”), hypocricy (lambasting others on special interest money while using a hoard of lobbyists as major bundlers and taking money from oil execs and voting for Cheney’s energy bill), pandering (notice his shape shift on gun rights and free trade).
Clinton did not claim that she was the second coming…Obama promised a new kind of politics but he is more of the same, only with less substance. That makes him more odious, not less.

Nobody cares about the screw ‘em comment because:
1) It is hearsay, and its not recorded, it was over 10 years ago, and memories fade concerning context, unlike Obama’s bitter remarks which were recorded.
2) It shows that Hillary Clinton is not a wimp. Obama has a problem with the wimp factor, just like John Kerry did, which ultimately cost him the election. Nobody wants a big liberal emotional wuss in the white house.

Amazing, and almost painful to watch.

I voted for Hillary in our primary in Texas but can read the numbers as they present themselves. She can’t win, I regretfully figured the best case scenario with where the final 8 primaries are headed. If her numbers were favorably in reverse at this stage, we could have a chance. But regardless of the poll taken, the best case scenario still shows her at being disliked by 45% of eligible voters in this country. I am afraid i for one am going to have to drop my Hillary banner and pick up the one that says we have to have democrat in the White House.

Is it reall hearsay, when her own supporters recall it, and more than one person is saying it?
It does matter that it was ten years ago, because it shows her character and her “at all cost” mentality. If she was cold and calculating back then, the ta daa she is still today.
She will do whatever is necessary, be it “bend” the truth, or change her image while she “finds” herself for the 100th time.

All Hillary, Potato Head Clinton does, is whine incessantly, about how she should win because the black man can’t win.
She has a lot of nerve even bringing up the subject. And how about Bills rants, of whining about how the press treats his immaculate conception of a wife, badly.

Even in the last debate Hillary was whining about the questions thrown at her. The media will be asking the same questions in the future. The Republicans may also bring up some of these same issues. Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton should provide standard responses prepared by competent advisors as to content and accuracy. Mr. McCain did a good job responding to the NYT story. He was well coached and his answers were direct and to the point. Outrage and complaints about the moderators will have no impact. Ratings and market share are the bottom line and the networks know what questions improve ratings.

Oh, those polls — the ones that all show Hillary leading! As I recall in Texas, just before the primaries, those same polls had Obama ahead of Clinton in the final days. As I recall in New Hampshire, those polls had Obama ahead of Clinton by 12. If Hillary is leading by 4 it means she will win by 15-20 comparatively.

We Americans deserve answers to all those questions asked in the last debate about Obama’s dubious relationships with men who hate or damn America, after all he is being considered for the Presidency of the United States of America and whoever is elected will be the Commander in Chief responsible for the security of our country. We didn’t get clear answers and we will continue to ask the tough questions, but in our mind the main question still remains:
Does Obama love or hate America?

Hillary does know about the tough question though.
The ones about who her husband was shacking up with on the previous nights party.
If that qualifies you to be commander in chief, then she is the person to vote for.
The blue dress questions, kept the Clinton administration busy doing nothing, while they answered stupid questions that didn’t pertain to the White House.
They should be charged back pay, for all the wasted time spent on their ridiculous antics, in the White House.

Look at all these whiny chics complaining about Obama giving HRC the finger? Massive time of the month? This is the amazing thing about HRC supported, they are so removed from actually having respinsibility … either daddy or husband brings home the bacon … that they think her campaign is OK. Insane chics and goobers and faux-conservative talk show hosts determine our president and the direction of the country? OMFG!

No ! you are absolutely wrong. It is HILLARY WHO HAS BEEN WHINING… before every primary she either starts crying or complaining about the Saturday Night Live thing. She just gets away with it. Obama wasn’t complaining. He just wasn’t ready for an ambush by George ( can’t get enough of those great Clinton years ) Stephanopoules.and Sean Hannity. If you look at the questions that were designed to totally convince that audience that Obama is unpatriotic, you would clearly see Hillary fanning hersrelf. If someone had told him that he would be facing 3 Republicans, he would have been better prepared for the sniper fire.

What’s the matter with all the Obama supporters they don’t want the truth. Why was he with William Ayers, why does he support Pastor Wright? Why didn’t his wife leave this country if she was never happy here?
Stephanopolous and Gibson finally got the nerve to ask some good questions and everyone can’t believe the Libral press would do that.
Had the Republicans been associated with people like Obama does the nation would never hear the end of it.

Are you people serious? Why do you continue to fall into the trap of the whole “he must hate America because…” If he hated America so much, why would he be pushing for change? If anything, the current administration are the ones who hate this country and its people by misleading them into a war with the wrong country and wreaking havoc on the economy with poor policies that only seem to benefit a select few. Grow up.

I am so happy to see ABC George Step and Charles Gibson ask Obama about his associations with Rev. Wright and Ayers. After seeing Lou Dobbs guess Mccarthty? I feel we may have a real undesirable running in the Democrat party. I have alway felt like Obama is hiding something from the Amercain people. There is an old proverb when you bash someone Like Hillary his running mate is because he is liking substance and character. Obama is an undesirable for the White House. If gets the primary McCain will be President. Which I will vote for him. Texas Democrats find Obama distastable and likeing in character. He will be lucky to stay in the senate I wish the FBI would investate more about his connection with racial groups.

Obama has been around for years, in the state of Illinois, a civil rights attorney, a constitutional law professor, in the Senate, and we are still asking….where did he come from??
This stupid question, after all his time working for ordinary people, is the reason why people are frustrated with the kinds of questions George Hannity decided to ask at what was supposed to be a debate on tough issues facing this country.
The questions have been asked, and they continue to be answered, so my question is….why do you keep asking the same questions over and over again? You keep asking about Rev Wright….why? That church was about more than just the pastor, and you have heard Obama state just that, and all the reasons why he stayed in the church, and didn’t disown the man. He continued answering questions about Rezko, yet you continued to ask the same questions over and over, even after he answered over and over.
But now we ask about lapel pins and just how friendly are you with another professor. And then to top it all off now….he scratches/rubs the side of his face and you determine that was really him giving hillary the finger? C’mon people, you’re making this look like a desperate witch hunt.
For those that don’t understand what had the crowd in an uproar yesterday, Obama put it all into perspective….he brushed the criticism off, brushed his shoulders off =chuckle= putting the tabloid question seminar behind him and again attempting to move forward. But the hillary supporters want to make it something more….why?

I missed the first few minutes of Wednesday night’s debate and so didn’t know immediately who was asking the questions. After the first few I thought, “Gee, ABC has brought back Geraldo.” Then the camera flashed to Gibson and Stephanopoulos. ABC News did nothing to raise the level of the 2008 presidential debates. What a shame.

I have been undecided for a long time regarding Hillary and Obama and so I watched the debate (I don’t know why I thought #21 would give me any more insight than the previous 20, but I gave it a shot) I was getting a little antsy in the beginning because I was concerned that the questions did not really address much. Flag pin? Give me a break. Anyway, I struggled through hoping for more substance later, which never really materialized. It appeared very slanted to me in favor of Mrs. Clinton but I was impressed by Mr. Obama’s ability to address each in a considered and well, presidential way. I was somewhat surprised to hear Gibson decide to enter the debate when his capital gains taxes were challenged. Seems he had his own agenda and was more concerned with his bottom line than national issues. (Perhaps he has some stocks he needs to sell and wants to avoid taxes). Anyway, all in all there were two outcomes of the evening for me. The first is that I missed American Idol for this trash and I am irritated by that. The second is that I am no longer undecided. I am voting for Mr. Obama. I feel really good now. Thanks ABC! Just Sayin’

This was the most even-handed debate thus far. As ABC is attacked, they need to remember that those of us who use the internet are not a cross-section of America. Generally, they are the kind of folks who fall into Obama’s camp statistically. Obama is simply not prepared, nor are his followers. He appears to run scared at the first sign of the media treating him even-handedly and threatens no more debates. His followers believe that any questioning of the leader is heresy. They all seem to pout. He even flips of Clinton. This is not high minded tactics. If Clinton were to behave like this, the sexist remarks would reign supreme.
Posted by: yael | April 18, 2008, 11:46 am 11:46 am
So Obama gets petulant during the debate and whines about it afterwards. Yeah cry some more Obama, that will win you votes..
My only complaint with the media’s tough look at Obama is why it took so long. He should have gotten this treatment last year.
Hillary has been through the meat grinder and survived many times. Obama hasn’t even started to feel the heat. After the republicans get a through with him he is going to look like a traitor and terrorist sympathizer. They are very good at destroying people of questionable character like Obama. He is divisive and incapable of running an effective presidency. He has already divided the democratic party, do the Obamabots actually believe he has any chance of getting them back? sad.
If Hillary loses I am voting for McCain. He may be republican but at least he is capable of truly working with the dems. Obama will only make things worse.

Everyone needs to forget about the faux debate last Wednesday. It’s just show business. ABC has no interest in news or debate, it just wants ratings. The entire election process is nothing more than a big televised reality show. It’s cheap programming for the cable networks. If the candidates actually started talking policy everyone would tune out. Obama supporters are clearly not interested in policy; they are only interested in Obama as inpirer-in-chief. Even Obama disdains policy. Hasn’t he said “Everyone has a ten-point plan” ? The only true policy wonk in the race is Hillary.

As usual those blind Hillary followers are missing the point. It’s not that everybody ,except you is complaining that Obama had to answer all the difficult questions. The problem here is that it was a debate and she wasn’t asked any hard questions. Even the one question by George whatever his last name is, about you know that 6 out of 10 people have a negative view of her , was phrased in such a way to to make the viewing audience feel sorry for her.

The finger thing is real cute. Rock band members use that trick right after the umpteenth drunk screams for Freebird.
So they get one. Never fails to get a cheer so yes, crowds do recognize it.
Obama is desperate to deflect the attention away from his loss in the debate. If neither he nor the DNC thugs can get her to drop out, this goes to the convention floor where the thug tactics will be broadcast for the whole world to see unlike the caucuses where they could get away with it.
Even if he wins there, he loses.
Say NO To Thugs.

Don’t make me laugh.
And how would you, as a Hungarian who writes that “all Americans are stupid” know?
You should be deeply ashamed of yourself for writing such a thing in an American blog. Btw let me remind you that of all the candidates Sen. Obama has the highest education. And you may not know what the Harvard Law Review is, but please check that out and I’ll remind you that Obama has been its president. That is quite something to have on your CV, in the USA. It means he was brilliant, at Harvard. That doesn’t hurt him now that he is such a great politician as well. He did what Republicans were never able to do: he has totally deconstructed the Clinton Machine, while fighting the whole Clinton family, including the former President, in this race. A totally AMAZING achievement. So if there is ONE fighter, and ONE strong candidate in this race, it must be Obama.

The rest of America IS COMPLAINING, not because the debate questions were hard but because the were STUPID questions, not worthy of the 45 minutes UTTERLY WASTED on them.
The questions were OLD NEWS. Everyone in America who has been paying attention has heard them asked and answered a GAZILLION times. We expected FRESH questions on the huge issues that are plaguing our country, not more of this crappy Clinton-driven DRIVEL!!!
Get a clue, ABC. This was a travesty of a debate, and you should all be ashamed!

ABC wants the upset to be all pro-Obama stuff but some people just waited to see something kind of presidential going on. Lots of times the moderators represent the viewers by having a lot of advanced information and background. They educate us. Neither of these moderators should be invited back. We should invite back Jim Lehrer, Gwen Ifil of PBS, Charles Schiffer of CBS if that’s his correct name, the elegant intelligent respectful white-haired guy who should be doing the Evening News, and maybe the Meet the Press guy whose name has escaped me, sorry. We need that group to ask questions.
I don’t see any need for Obama to be protected from Clinton. She is running a spoiler campaign and though it’s ugly and nasty, somebody’s got to do it.

Why can’t the Dem’s find a maverick like McCain? You know a guy who dumps his first wife who stood by him while he was a POW and marries a younger, prettier, multimillionaire? A guy who has been formally admonished by his peers in the Senate for the Keating 5 scandal? A guy who will champion campaign reform while violating the own laws he championed? A guy who will stand up for the sanctity of marriage and have multiple affairs and then blame the MSM for political hit jobs? Why can’t the Dems run a real American Hero like that? I would vote for em. For Sure.
Posted by: Reformed GOP | April 18, 2008, 11:54 am 11:54 am
It was a balanced debate. Hillary was asked to explain Bosnia which had been covered by MSM for weeks and she was asked to comment on her negative ratings. Obama was asked questions no MSM has ever really asked in a debate. It was about time.
I do think that it was balanced covereage for a change and Obama is now whining. Up to that point he was given a free ride. He could have been pressed much harder abuot Rezko and Auchi’s payment and his house selling for 300K under market value and then the purchase of the 10ft-strip of land which rendered Mrs. Rezko’s lot no longer suitable for development. They stayed away from all that which could be crucial in the GE.
Hillary Clinton and surrogates have complained that the coverage was not balanced and that she was often given the tough questions etc. The essence of the complaint is not being put on the spot, but rather, that no one else runing was treated that way.
Posted by: countallthevotes | April 18, 2008, 11:57 am 11:57 am
The Obama campaign wasn’t complaining about “tough” questions, and I’m sure they would welcome tough questions of both candidates on the issues.
Wearing a lapel pin of the flag is not a tough question, and definitely has nothing to do with healthcare, the economy, the war(s), etc.
It’s a shame that since the policies of Obama and H. Clinton are so similar (are they?), that the decision between the two may come to the effectiveness of personal attacks.
Just remember, the more the people reward negativism, the more negativism we will have in this country.

Nobody, not even, Obama was complaining about how hard the questions were. They were not hard they were stupdid. And the commentators acted like debaters themselves with Obama, but let a BS response on the fact the she intentionally lied to the american public, and repeatedly slide. Even though she had an easy time of it, she still complained about Obama talking more. He had to…his answers were being challenged by the moderators.

Obama clearly has done better starting from unknown or not than either HRC or McCain, those supposedly experienced candidates. Even Carville admits its a train wreck on Russert last Sunday. Repubs call it the worst campaign ever, you don’t think they will use “real” proof and actions of HRC incompetence and dishonesty and say/do anything. This stuff is real and will resonate, the turds you HRCers are flinging are just that. Please wash your hands.

The faux debate questions were irrelevant to the great issues of our day, but the debate got huge ratings. I heard that 10 million people watched the debate. Doesn’t this say something about what the electorate wants? They want to be entertained, not informed. The mob wants bread and circuses. If the candidates were in better shape the networks would be egging them on to do American Gladiator-type contents.
If Obama and Hillary supporters (like those in this blog) would stop writing about the negatives and gotchas, and start asking substantive questions, perhaps we would get better debates.

Obama didn’t whine, he made fun of the debate and the fact that it took the moderators 50 minutes to adress some of issues Americans tryly care about in these elections.
And it is Hillary who AGAIN has serious reasons to whine after the ABC debate. She’s in BIG trouble now. Here’s what RASMUSSEN reports today:
The Democratic Presidential Primary in Pennsylvania is getting even closer. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state shows Hillary Clinton with 47% of the vote and Barack Obama with 44%. This election poll was conducted Thursday night, the night following a nationally televised debate between the candidates. Last Monday, Clinton was leading Obama 50% to 41%.

Funny how Bill Clinton has such a short memory. Remember right before Texas – Ohio primaries, all the whining of how Hillary was being picked on because she was a woman? They whined, complained even during a debate how she always gets dumped on? Funny how Bill’s memory has faded in such a short period of time. ABC made everyone look bad. ABC and both candidates looked ridiculous!
Finding out that George got some of his questions from Sean Hannity was just bad journalism. ABC put on the worst debate EVER!!!
Wedge issues will not pay the rent/mortgage or bring down gas prices or even bring our solders back from Iraq. They only serve to distract us from reality. We can’t keep pushing each other in the gutter. ABC was completely in the gutter. We need to work together to make America a better place. United We Stand, Divided We Fall.

And let’s complain about Chelsea, Jake.
Here’s the LA Times today:
“Hillary Rodham Clinton has recently stopped telling the story of a pregnant Ohio woman who lost her baby then died because she lacked health insurance and proper prenatal care. The New York senator had recounted the story as it was told to her, but the account turned out to be oversimplified and wrong on some key details, according to news reports.
Still, Chelsea Clinton continued to tell it, even getting the woman’s age wrong. (She was 35, not “younger than me,” as Chelsea Clinton reported Saturday.)
“There was some talk in the media about whether it was true or whether it was not true,” she said. “Her family has said it’s true in the interim, but what matters to me in the following story is that no one ever doubted that it could be true in our country. So here’s the story we heard . . . .”
Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, said Chelsea Clinton should be held accountable for her stories. This story, she said, was plausible, so the telling of it, with Chelsea’s caveat, was acceptable.
“I don’t think adult daughters are held to a different standard,” Jamieson said.”

I do not believe Senator Obama was complaining about tough questions, I think he was complaining about stupid questions, which I believe they were. They have nothing to do with the day to day life of American’s. I want to scream if I hear one more stupid media type say “this is what the public wants and needs to know”. We the public doesn’t care about OTHER peoples comments, statements made 40 years ago, and fashion statements (flag pin), which by the way does not make you patriotic. I have long stopped watching the Stephanopoulos Sunday show because of the appearance of political bias but I am actually surprised at C. Gibson. If he wants to be taken seriously as a news anchor, he has to step up his game and stop asking GMA, taboid questions. On Bill Clinton I have lost all respect for him. He has turned into a character. The uncle no one wants to invite to the house because he talks too much.

In my opinion, ABC’s debate only hurt Clinton. It has already and will continue to benefit Obama. It was perfectly orchestrated to paint a negative picture of Hillary by allowing her to capitalize on everything but real issues. Not a good platform for a presidential candidate. Even Bill won the White House on the premise “It’s the economy stupid”. She came out looking cheaper, more desperate and even more deceitful than before the debate. There is a reason why McCain only attacks Obama. He knows he can beat Hillary in the fall.

Well, it turns out TPM Reader JL did give it some thought. And he came up with something very interesting (see JL’s post at the DrexelDems blog). He did a little googling and found out Nash is pretty popular with the traveling press now in Pennsylvania. It turns out McCabe was featured in an April 4th story in the Times which begins like this …
Ask whom she might vote for in the coming presidential primary election and Nash McCabe, 52, seems almost relieved to be able to unpack the dossier she has been collecting in her head.
It is not about whom she likes, but more a bill of particulars about why she cannot vote for Senator Barack Obama of Illinois.
“How can I vote for a president who won’t wear a flag pin?” Mrs. McCabe, a recently unemployed clerk typist, said in a booth at the Valley Dairy luncheonette in this quiet, small city in western Pennsylvania.
Mr. Obama has said patriotism is about ideas, not flag pins.
“I watch him on TV,” Mrs. McCabe said. “I keep looking for that lapel pin.”
Now, it does seem like McCabe is not a fan of Sen. Obama’s. And I think we can assume that it’s not a coincidence that McCabe managed to show up featured in the Times and also as the sole outside questioner in the ABC debate. Presumably, a researcher for ABC or Gibson saw the piece in the Times, figured, hey, this lady hates Obama and is seriously ginned up about the lapel issue. Let’s send a camera crew and film her slamming Obama to his face. It’ll be great in the debate.

Even on this blog, some of you keep asking questions that have already been answered.
Why are you still asking about his home purchase? It was asked and answered.
And ask yourselves this question….
if Obama is so “unknown” do you think he would have the backing that he does?
Those people know who he is and what he’s all about. Do you really think he would get all this backing if they somehow didn’t know anything about him?
C’mon….try to be fair.

Obama is an empty suit, with no strong resume to back him up. He is not presidential material. He couldn’t even handle a couple of tough questions.
He better not be the Democratic candidate, because he will not do well against the Republican machine.

Let’s face it, friends…
The Clintons have gotten to the point of being just plain scary. It’s so blatantly obvious that they’ll say anything and do anything to score a cheap political point.
She needs to get out of the race and Bill needs to go back to making millions peddling his presidential influence with tin pot dictators and tassle-toed pansies in Washington DC.

Oh wait, maybe not, or maybe, or maybe I don’t have the facts right, or maybe I’m having a senior moment. Never mind let’s talk abotu Bosnia, NAFTA, etc., at least Hillary almost got those stories right, or maybe not, or maybe I don’t remember, or maybe I was just had a lapse in memory.

Actually it was 52 minutes before they asked about any of the issues.
But hey…I thought the debate was supposed to be between Obama and clinton. So why were the moderators interrupting and ‘debating’ with Obama?
Because it wasn’t a debate….it was a hit job. They didn’t really want to discuss issues, just continue to ask Obama the same questions over and over again. The sean hannity question….nothing but innuendo, no substance. If we continue to ask the question, there has to be something to it, just because we say so.
Disingenuous crap people.

I love the solution to gas prices from both of them, look for the big evil corporation and fund a big government program by raising taxes.
Gas prices are a result of Supply and Demand. Look on the road and see all these people with huge SUVs drinking gas. Maybe we need to tax all vehiles that get less than 25 MPG to pay for alternative fuel. The rest of the world still pays more than we do for gas, it is a global economy, get use to it. Everyone one with a 401K or money in a stock fund loves the oil companies results, but of course in a communist, oops I mean democrat, world business shouldn’t make money.

Who is falling for the Clintons’ petty games?
There’s a reason Obama is winning this race, and a reason he’s going to win in November.
We’re sick of the politics of sleaze and ready to elect a president who will work for us, not corporate lobbyists, foreign governments, media windbags, and most importantly, themselves. Hello 100 million, Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Thanks for not repeating the Clintons’ distortions without correction. The AP has taken a similar approach today:
“‘We were both asked some pretty tough questions and that’s part of what happens in a debate and in a campaign, and I know he spent all day yesterday complaining about the hard questions he was asked,’ Clinton said, although Obama did not complain about the difficulty of the questions, just the substance.”

Congratulations on an excellent debate.
Gibson and Stephanopolous surprised me with their questions to Obama. All of us want them answered. He is like the emporer in his new clothes, bare of substance, all fantasy with fine words. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but our long election period has exposed him as totally unprepared to be President of the U.S.

Clinton and McCain are politics as usual, bought and paid for by the people who make more in one year than most of us will make in a lifetime. I”m voting for the guy being funded one $25 contribution at a time by average Americans in RECORD numbers — which just goes to show we are sick of politics as usual and GOTCHA news media as usual. Turn the cameras on Britney Spears if you need salacious gossip. Let”s stick to the WAR, ECONOMY, HEALTHCARE and other serious issues when we talk politics.
Posted by: DemsDeBreaks | April 18, 2008, 12:28 pm 12:28 pm
This is the largest “complaint” the Clintons have had, that Obama was getting off easy yet when he does have to come “under the gun” they then have to drag out another lie. That they have not complained. That’s the thing, and the difference here, is that these 2 lie when the truth would serve them better but they think the public is so stupid that they won’t catch on to yet another lie.
She is losing in all polls, she is behind with no hope of catching up and she can only win if the will of the majority of the American public is thrown under the bus…and all polls point to the lies, the bashing and the inability to change their actions…and yet they still lie.
She deserves to lose and not only deserves, she is entitled to it since it is the only thing she has earned in this race.

oh yeah =gasp= I almost forgot…there’s a primary next week.

Watch out folks, cuz its a comin’.
Posted by: LA in Indiana | April 18, 2008, 12:31 pm 12:31 pm
The main point is this:
Obama has had a free ride from the press throughout this primary and the first time he was asked a number of tough questions, he buckled. Clinton and her supporters never complained about getting hard questions, rather they noted that Obama never seemed to get them. When she did this the media said she was whining. Now Obama tries to make the case and suddenly the press gives in to his complaints? There is something fishy going on here. What’s good for the gander is good for the goose.
Posted by: Andrea | April 18, 2008, 12:33 pm 12:33 pm
Doesn’t it worry any of you that are independent, Clinton supporters or even Republicans, that the press and also the superdelegates are being bullied into Obama’s candidacy by his supporters who have a mob mentality? I am worried. This is not the way to select a president. Clinton has half the support in this primary- Obama and his mob are not succeeding at convincing (threatening) everyone. This is reminiscent of how G.W ran his campaign with the right-wing supporters pushing him so aggressively. I am reminded of a quote by Gloria Steinem who said “Evil is obvious only in retrospect.”
Posted by: Andrea | April 18, 2008, 12:35 pm 12:35 pm
ABC asked very good and tough questions. If you can’t handle the heat, you may hit a wrong button to launch nuclear weapon to your ally…
A president should be able to handle any tough situation facing him… Clearly Obama is not ready for it yet…
No one can really win over the issues thru the debate depending how people taste them,
The debate is NOT about the issues, it is about how you react….
Obama just reacted poorly..

Hillary’s shameless attempts to embarrass Senator Barack Obama over the last week and during the ABC Debate, pandering to Shock Jocks and Poison Pen Writers posing as “Journalist” which is no more than Acting Bad entertainment. Her aim as she claims, is to try and sway Super Delegates. The Polls show no one is listening to HRC especially the Super Delegates. HRC is complicit with these “Yellow Journalist”. The Media Industry and the FCC may need to do a little Policing when obvious Free Speech Rights may be abused. HRC has nothing further to add at this time, and time will remove her from the Public Square of the Democratic nominee process. Short biased opinion masquerading as objective fact is rejected, coming either from Hillary’s camp or biased media this is not complaining on Obama’s part.

We need a once-in-a-lifetime president, which Obama can be, to erase the worst-in-our-history president’s legacy of 2001-2008. Last chance to save the US of A as we once knew it from the 1980-2008 continuous sell-off of everything we hold dear.

OK. The questions weren’t TOUGH, just S-T-O-O-O-P-I-D. Who WOULDN’T be exasperated at having to justify one’s patriotism for the umpteenth time to “Dottie in Duluth”. Forty-five minutes and 16 “questions” before a single relevent issue is raised. What is that? Most Americans would be indignant at a single questioning of their patriotism; here this guy has been defending his for months. Of all the questions from 300 million Americans and THIS is the one ABC chooses to air? If wearing or not wearing a flag lapel pin is considered a more relevent issue by the “average” voter than Iraq, global warming, healthcare, the economy, social security et al, then we are in a lot worse trouble than we think. Send Charlie back to Good Morning, America – he’ll have an audience more enamored of his particular style of “journalism”.

It is not suprising that most of Obama’s fans thought the questions ABC asked they called “stupid”?
It proved that Obama couldn’t even handle “stupid” questions, how can he deal with real issues???
A true leader can govern all kind of situations. It is not about the issues, it is about how he reacts! – that is the true intelligent and true leadership…

In the words of Obama ” I borrowed this” but I thought it was dead on…
The Clinton Rules
1. If anything bad happens to the Democrats in this campaign, it can and should be blamed on Hillary Clinton.
2. Every statement of any supporter or surrogate of Hillary Clinton is a reflection of Hillary Clinton’s personal views or directives.
3. If Hillary Clinton gets the nomination (through her evil machinations) and loses, it will be the fault of Hillary Clinton and her supporters.
4. Any votes that Hillary Clinton receives from Independents and Republicans are due to their interest in preventing Sen. Obama from becoming the Democratic nominee and defeating Sen. John McCain. After all, the GOP wants to run against Hillary Clinton in the Fall!
5. If Hillary Clinton attempts to work the completely screwed up primary system to her advantage, it represents vote-stealing and cheating.
The Obama Rules
1. If anything good happens to the Democrats in this campaign, it can and should be attributed to Sen. Barack Obama.
2. NOT every statement of any prominent supporter or surrogate of Barack Obama is a reflection of Barack Obama’s personal views or directives.
3. If Sen. Obama gets the nomination and loses, it will be the fault of Hillary Clinton and her supporters.
4. Any votes that Sen. Obama receives from Independents and Republicans are a result of his uplifting and positive campaign of hope, change and unity and his incredible coattails – and not because they are just becoming Democrats for a day. After all, isn’t it ridiculous that Democrats alone are allowed to pick the Democratic nominee?
5. If Sen. Obama attempts to work the completely screwed up primary system to his advantage, it represents hope, optimism and change and a reflection of the will of the people.

I was totally disappointed with this debate. The CNN Compassion forum was much much better. ABC blew it. The candidates had no problems attacking one another. We did not need ABC fanning the flames of these dying fires. We need answers to this complex mess our country in presently. Your debate did very little to address this. Do a better job next time or stop sponsoring debates. Leave it to others who care about the real issues.

Cmon people we get it, Hillary is a woman and you will vote for her because SHE is a woman, period. No pun intended. But, you fail to realize that Obama represents a bigger cross section of America then either Hillary or Mccain. I see young people who are truly excited about being part of this historic race and I see that all the negative campaigning by Hillary hurting the democractic party. Hillary is only concerned about HILLARY, she does not care about the issues. She knows that the only way she can win is to drag Obama down to her level and she is using you (WOMEN) to do it for her. You should wake up and see that America needs the change that Obama will bring if elected. He will force a change of the status quo, he will bring the country back from the brink of depression, he is the only one who will unify the country. Hillary and McCain will only tear it apart, it will be politics as usual. We need the change that Obama will bring. We need someone who is not jaded in the WH, someone who will bring about positive change and who will help to bring the USA back to prominance on the world stage and as a positive world leader instead of being the world’s cop. Isn’t that the kettle calling the pot burnt?
If McCain or Hillary haven’t twisted Obama’s words for political purposes, or cried foul for being attacked, then I must be dumb, and I don’t appreciate being condescended too. It’s about the facts, not the manipulation of someone’s words, and the fact is that Clinton and McCain both have records that are impotent at best and completely corrupt most often. What we know about Hillary and John is that they play the press and the public well mostly because they will say whatever the public wants to hear no matter how dishonest, and if you check the facts it almost always is a lie, and they have done nothing to stop and in fact promoted the debacle that this country is now in, both the war and the economy. But I asked myself what do I know about Obama? Well I know that I didn’t support him in the beginning and I still think of him as the lesser of three (evils?). I’ll explain how I could make such a decision to support him? Obama’s voting record is only slightly left of Hillary’s, and Hillary’s voting record is only midway left of McCain’s even though Hillary’s is way to the right of center and Obama’s is just about center, McCain’ voting record is that of a man that knows nothing of what is happening in the world other his own blind drive for power. And Hillary’s position on anything is questionable sense it flip-flops whenever her actions don’t sit well with the voters, as well as being driven only by power. Other then that my decision was set in stone when both Hillary and McCain decided to use a kind of political correctness that reminded me of the rhetoric that we the voting public lack patriotism because we question the war, our government, or our president? All assumptions I find patently insulting. So future President Obama, get used to it Hillary and McCain, but you were not my first choice but now you are my only choice. Congratulations

I am sick to death of the negativity that is surrounding the democratic campaign. I attempted to watch the debate, but was so annoyed with George and Charles’ negative political journalism that I could no longer suffer through it. I agree with a previous post that many of the questions that were asked of each candidate were stupid and in my opinion irrelevant. Issues of Hilliary’s lie of what happened in Bosnia and what O’Bama should have or shouldn’t have done regarding his pastor doesn’t matter as much as how people are going to pay for housing, gas, food, medical, decent wages.
Everyday we are hearing of citizens losing their jobs, their homes being foreclosed, gas prices escalating; the list can go on and on. And, journhalist want to sow discord and negativity?? I want to hear the candidates solution to that which concerns most of us all. Not the crap we are being subjected to by the media.
Needless to say, I was very dissatisfied with the way George and Charles handled the debate and disappointed with them. I expected better of them both.
Based upon some of the comments, we as people have a long way to go towards being united. This comment doesn’t have a darn thing to do with my “patriotism”. SSShhhh, I don’t always wear my American flag pin: does this make me against my country? We can agree to disagree, but to be nasty? That is uncalled for and should not be tolerated.

I agree with Hector, your article is bringing some good journalism back to ABC. I was shocked because I thought Charles Gibson and George Stephanopolis were more professional. I can understand asking tough questions, but most of them were directed toward Obama, so it didn’t even look equal — and the clincher was bringing up that weatherman stuff — that was just ridiculous and ABC lost all credibility because it looked they were really trying to find something that wasn’t even there.

Congratulations to ABC! Finally, questions were asked that, I am sure, are being asked by many Americans, and it took the courage of these two highly qualifed and knowledgable News Commentators to ask them.
Both Clinton and Obama were asked questions that were tough. And, as someone who is wanting to know more about Obama, I am disappointed that he has taken, the attitude of being the
“Victim”, something that he accuses Clinton of. We have watched many debates between these two and everyone knows about their plans for Health Care, Iraq, etc., what everyone doesn’t know about are the very questions that were asked,e.g.; what Clinton will do to win back the trust of voters over her Bosnia mistake. More importantly, are the questions about Obama, because we don’t know of him and he has the delegate lead, for now. We all know about Clinton, We don’t know about what influences Obama. And so far, his choices and judgement to maintain relations with “Anti-American” hater’s and his Pastor, still needs to be answered. We all should have the “Right to Know”.
It is also appalling to hear what Obama is saying today, that basically, We the People of America don’t care about those issues and then goes on to refer to them as; “petty issues”, which sounds condescending. I believe there will be more unfavorable surprises yet to come about Obama and won’t be able to win the General Election.
I question his ability, thus far, as to whether he can unite this Country, because he apparantly is no longer willing to have another Debate, before the North Carolina Primary, nor did he agree to allow the States of Florida and Michigan to revote. The People of those States are the rank and file Democrates, who had nothing to do with the rescheduling of their Primaries. Their Elected Officals did and he knows that. To continue to use the Excuse that the “Rules are the Rules” is wrong, and only divides and denies the rank and file their democratic vote.

Hillary has been getting clobbered in the debates and by the media for over a year. Heck, for over 20 yrs. But for the first time he gets it a little rough and someone doesn’t fall at his feet, and he carries on about it like he just got impeached for some silly nonsense. And the media and the DNC are out in full force defending him.
But with all of it, the media bias, the DNC taking away two states’ delegates from her and now trying to prematurly end the election – the way she’s been beat up, hand-cuffed, had Iraq blood poured all over her, and viciously maligned, she just will not be knocked down, and she just keeps getting VOTES. Frankly, I admire her more now than ever.
Even honest Obama supporters admit that the media bias in his favor has been extraordinary, and now Howard Dean’s bias is becoming glaringly obvious. They’ll take this election from the people come hell or high water.
It’s like watching a murder you can’t stop, knowing the perp will get away with it – BUT THE VICTIM IS OUR DEMOCRACY.
This beats all I’ve ever seen.

At the end of the day, those supposedly tough questions won’t give you the much needed pay raise, keep food on your table, lower the price of gas, make the Iraqi’s get along so we can leave, catch Bin Ladin and everyone that’s associated with him, won’t lower the rapidly increasing price of college tuition, won’t improve the economy, won’t secure a future for your children, won’t make the world like us any better, won’t bring peace to the middle east, won’t improve medical care, won’t make our schools safer from crazy people with guns on campus, won’t lower the price of buying a home, and won’t secure that you’ll have a job next year – do I need to say anymore? If none of those 45 minutes of tabloid styled questions solves, answers, addresses any of those issues, then how important were they to be asked in the first place. Shame on anyone that believes those “questions” were that important… it’s probably because of that type of thinking that got us into the mess in the first place… too busy being focused on stuff that doesn’t matter really doesn’t matter – at the end of the day… God bless our democracy!

The debate was a farce as is main stream media.
Cable media is shameful.Nothing more than jerry springer mentality? this is insulting to democracy.
You would think a super power could do better?.
Why NOT hold a real debate at a University moderated by America’s finest intellectuals instead of these so called news personalities.
I have no faith in American democracy and the American dream is just that, a dream.
When the primary is held the votes will be tallied by electronic fraud voting machines???.
Wonder why Barack Obama does better with a paper ballot caucus?
The hypocrisy of spreading freedom around the world when American democracy is nothing more than an exercise is futility.
Wake up America!!
Count your votes!
Demand your media serve you better.

It shows how low class and shameless Hillary really is after months of complaining about nonpreferential media treatment. I think Hillary has the capacity to top Bush in creating division. The Bush/Clinton has pitted this country against itself and Hillary continues the tradition. Obama has the class and humor to blow her off.

After K makes a comment about “when you grow up,” James responds by slyly rubbing his forehead with his middle finger exposed.
OBAMA used a gesture against Clinton that Will Smith did to TOmmy Lee JOnes in MIB. His lack audience knew what it was. spread the word and video.

“I know he spent all day yesterday complaining about the hard questions he was asked.”
More BS from Hillary. Obama observed that the debate didn’t dwell on the tough questions that are of much more interest to Americans. The ABC debate blog and the media outrage is evidence that Obama was right.
Hillary’s ready for Day One to fight with everybody on silly crap like she has for 35 years.

geevill,
You can go ahead and say “black” supporters, we won’t be offended because we are not that petty, as I can see a lot of people are. By the way, I sometimes use my middle finger to push up my glasses or to even scratch an itch on my face. Does this mean that I am giving the wall in my office the finger, h*** no. Don’t stereotype black folks because you don’t have a clue as what the h*** you are talking about.

Ok folks, I am going to keep this short and to the point. I understand that a lot of these comments are coming from Hillary supporters. The fact is that Obama was not complaining about the tough questions, he was complaining that the questions where not issue driven. Instead, they where to scrutinize misspoken words. We all have said things that should have been said in a different way, does this make us bad people, certainly not. I like both candidates and may the best one win. I support Obama because he is the politics of change in America, the America that I love so much. With this said, I will support any Dem who wins the nomination because whatever happens, its got to be better than what we have had in office for these last 8 awful years. I am a registered nurse and barely able to make mortgage or pay bills and before the current presidency, I was an LVN and doing just fine. Can someone please explain to me why it is that if one or the other candidate wins the nomination, some of our “so-called” democrats are threatening to go republican. To me that is not patriotic at all, it is a lie. A lie when you supposedly support someone or group as long as the person is not “black” or a “woman”. God help America, this is ridiculous.

Oh please. How dopey can you get? There was no fear in Barak Obama’s voice. He was just irritated by the consistant whining from the Hillary camp. that includes people like you. Get over it. Barak is winning and your rights arent’ going to get trampled on when he becomes pres. You’re not that important.
Hah, how’s that for elitism. *rolls eyes*

For those foreigners who wonder how the US could have elected George Bush twice this is why.
They would rather ask questions about lapels and pastors instead of how to make the society better.
People must be deluded to believe these were “great” questions. WOW

Obama is a “sneak it in chicken.”

I was just watching Reliable Sources address ABC’s debate, and yeah, I think we can all agree the “flag pin” question was a bit much, though I didn’t realize “the women on the street” who asked the question was actually someone the NY Times quoted about this, but all these other questions really were legitimate. The media has focused on the Rev. Wright and “bitter” remarks ad nauseum, and this IS the first debate held since these issues came up. But the larger point is that of the other 20-something debates, many of them focused rather harshly on Clinton’s negatives. This ONE debate was more focused on Obama’s, the front runner’s, negatives, and the whining is deafening – just deafening. I think this highlights pretty starkly just how great the bias in the media really is. And let’s face it, if he had actually performed well, no one would be saying a word, other than to praise how he tough he is.
So, this entire argument highlights IMO a greater issue, the liberal media’s overwhelming favoritism toward Obama. Actually that’s the real issue here. When Clinton was the front-runner, that was the “excuse” for her getting the majority of the hammering. If Obama makes it to the general election, you can bet he’s going to get roughed up plenty and that these issues are going to come up again.
So . . . he can cry me a river. He’s sure never complained about be the liberal media’s darling.

There is one fact that we can agree on. OBAMA is losing. He looks dumb. He can’t change anything but his annual income.
He can’t change CHICAGO POLITICS
He can’t change REZKO and the Middle East Ties
He can’t change Rev. Wright.
Now, he claims that he will change Washington should you give him your vote.
He is good at saying lofty things but not specific. Now he gets himself in a situation he needs to answer specific question and he mumbles, jumble and fumbles and tries to make a fool of himself by laughing it off.
As an audience, I think it is funny because of him.

The coverage throughout the campaign has been totally slanted towards Obaama…I am a private citizena and i knew about Rezko, Wright and Ayers early in the campaign from searching the records of all the candidates…but they were not really covered until the readers outcry became too great,
So what if Hillary wasn’t too happy with MSM. And it was terribel…journalists calling her names and using Obama’s campaign’s talking points instead of doing “fair and balanced” coverage….
Even with the “bitter” remarks some of the press perfers to leave out “antipathy to others that are not like themselves and anti-immigrant”
A lot of people may not care to be called bitter gun and church clingers….but most people really resent being called racists.
Anyway Clinton made do…..But the first time you bring up anything about Obama he is not just complaining but totally using a “scorched earth” policy. Will he debate again or use this as an excuse not to take questions? Did he ever take questions?
ANd so he sets his attackers on a network…and he stops hiding behind his attack dogs to go full blown negative.
There are youtubes out there where Obama made 2 different stops in PA the day after the debate and he is giving the “finger” to Clinton in the same basic part of the speech.
He is a hypocrite who will not allow anyone to question him. I believe there will be a lot more revelations about his friends and policies. Obama may give great speeches and the camera loves him. But he has no record of accomplishment and he has no relevant experience…

John_Lai:
You should learn to say:
President Barack Hussein Obama, 44th President of the United States of America
Maybe you should salute, hold your hand over your heart and bow when you say it.

Poor Hillary.
Why anyone can understand how it’s easy to confuse a “corkscrew” land at Tuzla airport among sniper fire and then having to run across the tarmac with a comedian and a guitar player in tow and ducking bullets all the while to a poem from a child.
