Hutchinson on Obama: Stop Him Before He Talks About Wright Again!
On the Huffington Post, Earl Ofari Hutchinson writes, "Whoever on Team Obama keeps feeding into Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s seeming compulsive need to speak out on the Reverend Jeremiah Wright should get the swift boot."
Faulting Obama for his "halting, stumbling, anguished voice press conference" today, Hutchinson says the myriad speeches, interviews and press conferences he’s given on the subject have given "talking heads more salacious grist for the gossip and rumor mill about Wright, the church and Obama’s long term relationship with both. He’s elevated Wright from a relatively obscure, local preacher to a nationally known polarizing figure. He’s deepened the suspicions of those who all along felt that he was a closet radical and race panderer."
The episode has caused many Democrats to have second thoughts about Obama and no "matter how much he protests that Wright doesn’t represent him or his thinking, the fact is he sat in his church for nearly two decades, called him a spiritual mentor and family confidant, appointed him to an advisory post in his campaign, and in his so-called race speech refused to disown his two decade experience and relationship with him. This instantly makes his Wright protest sound like the wail of a politician running scared, and who sees the long, arduous, time consuming and patient work he put into building up public trust in him as the nation’s great political hope fast washing down the drain."
Tough stuff. Whaddaya think?

I agree. Obama is digging his own grave. And possibly hurting John McCain, because now all the voters that could “never vote for Hillary” now may be reconsidering that.

I’m surprised he did a press conference. Also, Obama said he couldn’t denounce Wright, just like he couldn’t denounce his grandma. Is she next?

What is Obama doing? Now the black community will never accept Obama if he does not win.

Obama had his chance to denounce Wright in PA but failed to do so! Now what he is doing is political damage control rather than moral conviction, and this makes Obama look like any other politician who will do anything to get elected. The problem is that the american people are now getting a sense of who the real Obama is and they are not liking it and this is what is making superdelegates waver and this is why he should not be the nominee, because in the end he does not have the support of the working class and if Democrats don’t have that then they will lose in the GE and thats why Hillary did not and should not quit this race. She is the only Democrat left that can beat McCain this fall and people are coming around to that fact!
Rise Hillary Rise!!!

You forgot to put that Hutchinson is a CLINTON SUPPORTER. Hutchinson is out of his mind. How could Obama not have responded? In essence, he would have let Wright define him. He had to respond, and did so. I think this will quell most concerns.
Posted by: David | April 29, 2008, 6:56 pm 6:56 pm
I disagree
Obama denouncement of his pastor is long overdue
Sean Hannity and conservative pundits can no longer fault Obama for not “denouncing” him
Now that its said and done, Obama should dismiss the subject and move to the issues
When Joe Scarborough defends Obama and says this story is dead
A new day has come

It was time for BO to drop out before this mess, now, if he has any sense at all he will go away and fast, so that the democrats have a chance to win in Nov. I also will vote for McCain if by some bizzare stroke of stupidity BO wins the nomination.

barrysherrie, i’m with you. no matter who the repubs would run this year, i’d vote repub over obama. and my family and i have been straight dems for generations. obama doesn’t belong in the senate, much less the white house.
if obama were applying for a generic government job, with his ties to ayers/dohrn, auchi, etc., he wouldn’t be able to pass the background check. but somehow he’s ok as commander in chief? i don’t think so!
and that’s before we even get into his 20 year relationship with wright – now he denounces the guy and we’re supposed to just say, ok, well, that’s that. not happening!!!
we can only hope the voters in north carolina and indiana and oregon and all the remaining states give hillary huge wins so the superdelegates will finally see what the rest of america already knows. hillary can beat mccain and would be a good president. obama can’t beat mccain and would be a terrible president if he did.

Wow! It is obvious that Reverend Wright has found a lot of suckers. Just the fact that the media is covering this trash shows how backwards America is. I don’t believe that Reverend Wright is running for President. Wow, I wonder why there is no mention of Hilary’s association with Goldwater. I’ll bet that she and McCain have ties with a lot more undesirables than Mr. Obama. Well what can you expect from illiterate whites? Anything to bring down the only decent candidate we have. Oh please, spare me the I’m not racist comment. Some people are and don’t even know it. Only and ignorant fool would judge a person by others that he know. Obama said Wright was his spiritual mentor and he could no sooner disown him than his grandmother…and that Wright’s words were taken out of context. Then Wright gives a “talk” at the Press Club that is 100% televised (and where we get “context”) and Obama denounces him. Obama’s press conference today gives Wright’s comments that “he says what he has to as a politician” some merit, no?

It is all fine and good, but it has been the press that keeps it alive. He has to respond and you know it. So why this post?
There is not a single statement that Obama could make that would please all the people. Not one!
Hillary is in the same boat. So is ABC, NBC, CBS, AP, UPI, Newsweek, Time, and lets not forget Hutchinson

Well that’s something coming from the Huffington Post. But then again, there’s many of us out here that have been trying to bring Barack’s shortcomings to light for months. To no avail. Until now.
But the biggest question still remains…..who is Barack Obama and what does he really believe? Enquiring minds want to know.

Okay everyone “the Obama” has decread that this issue is dead, stop gawking and go back to your homes and sit quietly until he is sworn in as president. Oh wait a minute I think the “Good Rev.” may want to add something to this……

I’m a Hillary supporter. I think Obama showed bad judgment in staying with the church all these years and I think he did in part because it is THE church for black Chicagoans, so it was politically expedient.
I think Wright was providing payback, for Obama’s first distancing of him. And I think there’s probably a whole lot more going on than any of us know. This whole thing seems very personal, at least on Wright’s part.
I do think this is legitimate grist for the political process. I do think this is hurting Obama big time. I think his press conference was a sorry performance.
And yet … I felt very sorry for Obama. It was different watching him on the news than listening to parts on the radio, because you could see his face, and body language. This is a man who is hurting, PERSONALLY, as well as politically. He’s bleeding inside, and it showed.
Actually made me like him a little more to tell the truth.

Great article jake!
So now Obama is shocked by Rev.Wright? What did Wright say yesterday that we didn’t already know?
The only new revelation… Wright told the whole world that Obama only disagrees with him publicly, because Obama has to if he wants to get elected.
They’ll mend the relationship as soon as Obama gets into the White House.

The bottom line is Obama is going to be the nominee and he’s going to be President.
Unless the man really screws up…(he himself screws up)
Today was just another example of the the next President of the US.
C’mon …you compare how he was today to Hillary or McCain…there’s no question this guy is the next generation of America and he needs to take over…since this last generation kind of has screwed us all up.
There is no other candidate that can get us to lead by light…the rest of the world.
No other candidate brings it all back that we are the Great Experiment…working.
They may have years but the bottom line is he has the best intellect with the best reasoning with the least amount of taint…or the least amount of stuck in their own defense.
McCain loses on the intellect in the economy and our best forward motion for our military…(yes mcCain will lose in the general on this when the dots are connected between Afghanistan, crunbling military forces, not getting OBL, no focus on southeast asia or the fall out from this famine we are seeing on the rise and it’s increasing influence on terrorism, and the lack of finance to fight a longer war on the backs of a crumbling economy).
The war ends up a loser for him as the economy goes down to and our vets medical bills and a government that slowly more and more can’t care for them.
Hillary is just the last page of a chapter that was better than the one before but slowly revealed it wasn’t all it portrayed itself as. She will be a hold out of a closing book, the last page character left on a very bad chapter of America’s 20th century.
All your screaming and degredation of Obama at this point is not going to stop the inevitable Obama is the next President of the US of A.
and the night of the election the world will rejoice in supporting the statue of liberty again.

The true irony here is that the very church Obama joined for no other reason than to advance his political career is ultimately proving to be his political destruction.
As far those of you who feel that Obama’s much belated denunciation of Wright is sufficient, I am reminded of a comment Churchill once made about the US: “When all is said and done Obama can be counted on doing the right thing, after having first exhausted every available alternative.”

Well, you can’t please ‘em all, and short of stealing the election, you can’t please clintonistas at all!!!
Senator Obama was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Weeks of Clintonista whining about Rev. Wright might have been finally put to rest after the NAACP speech, but then Rev. Wright goes and blows chunks before the National Press Club!!! And makes it worse with Q&A. After that, what choice did Senator Obama have but to come to the realization that Rev. Wright was not a true ally in any sense of the word.
But, those same Clintonistas who clamored for Senator Obama to “throw him under the bus” are now damning him for doing it.
We can only hope that today’s press conference will put this issue to rest. It’s time to talk about issues, such as Hillabeans willingness to let our roads go to pot (literally) to give us a $35 per year break at the pumps. Less than $1.00 a week used to be a lot in the 1950′s, but isn’t anymore!!!

Right On TK! Cause you know Hilary’s supporters are blue collar, uneducated hillbillies anyway. What do you expect? The man’s part Black and they keep using this soap box issue against him. You know why? Because after all of this, he is STILL the MOST DECENT of all the candidates. If he does not win the nomination I just will not vote. Oh, by the way, I won’t wear my American Flag pin either.Barack Obama is a gentleman. His first denoucement of Reverend Wright may have sounded soft to some people but just because he didn’t harshly denounce Reverend Wright some people feel he did not do enough. I guess had he cussed the man out and just downright nearly spit on him a lot of people were not satisfied. Mr. Obama is the most civilized person I have seen in quite a while. These Obama knockers are most likely Imus listeners anyway.

By the time all is said and done Hillary will have the most popular vote and won the states that Democrats have to win and thats what will allow superdelegates to vote for her over Obama! You see in the end Democrats want to win and they know Hillary is a fighter who can take on McCain and the Republican attack machine! Hillary supporters are more encouraged than ever that she has a path to the nomination and will be the first woman POTUS!

I think Hutch hit the nail on the head…Wright has now overshadowed Barrack and the Right Wing Zealots must be jumping like frogs in a rain storm.
What it will come down to is again…you are known by the company you keep and when the Dems fast forward to the election Obama will not be the one they want to run against McCain.
His baggage has become too heavy to ignore.
Clearly we all feel sad for him having to face this but MSM knew about Wright almost a year ago and they are the ones who should have been paying attention and vetting Obama…now his followers will be crushed the Democrats will be divided and there is a good chance Mac could win.
But maybe that was the plan all along.
What will Rachel Maddow, Keith O and Chris Mathews do now…not to mention Schuster. They will have to beat themselves with chains for penance.
Oh, the irony! And the beat goes on and the beat goes on.

I don’t feel sorry for Obama…But strangely I feel sorry for Rev Wright.
I actually feel Obama has betrayed his longtime pastor. And I think it tells volumes about Obama’s character.
On the day Obama was announcing his run for president he took Wright off the agenda (Wright was going to speak)then asked Wright to wait in the basement out of public. That had to hurt.
Then over and over he has to hear Obama say he’s like a crazy uncle that says stupid, deplorable things.
All the while Obama is basking in glory and adoration…with Wright looking like the bad guy.
How much could Wright take without defending himself? Obama did this to himself by thinking all of America was so stupid to believe he never knew what was going on in that church.

I love those who say he was stuttering and it was “horrible”
No it was sincere…and if you can’t tell that was sincere…no wonder you are supporting Hillary.
America is about (even though all this nastiness will keep up for the next few months) to become a greater country again.
Obama is going to be President…but before that happens I hope someone is going to take Hillary to task for the damage she is doing and has done with this nuclear crap.
Even if she doesn’t win Iran and Korea and other rogue nationals are going to use that discussion (because she was the first lady) to show why they have to get Nuclear weapons to protect themselves from the warmongering Nuclear crazy west.
Obliteration and massive retaliation it makes you understand the mind behind the sniper tale. ugh.
soon she will be gone in fact …i do wonder if she has lost her senate campaign next time around.

Hutchinson makes good points. Rev. Wright said nothing that we hadn’t already heard before. When Wright made those statements earlier, Obama said he couldn’t denounce Wright no more than he could denounce his grandmother. Today, that changed. I don’t see how this helps Obama. He looks like he’s flip-flopping.

Make you prediction on IN
but if she doesn’t win IN after the bad media coverage for the Obama campiagn
The headlines the following day won’t only be “Hillary loses IN”
The headlines will be “How could she have lost IN?”
SDs, pundits, and voters will question Hillarys fight and support

Amazing that 73 of Hilary’s biggest donors stopped donating to Hilary and started supporting Obama with their 2,300 and it didn’t happen vice versa with Obama. Seems to me these people know the Hilary better than we do. That should tell us all something. I will still take Obama with his Reverend Wright baggage any day instead of these other two old Bags, Hilary and McCain.

How can this either be a) A “right wing” conspiracy, or b) an insignificant issue. The facts stand (undenied by Obama or anyone else) that wright was a close friend and advisor for 2 decades. Wright has not changed at all over those 20 years . This tells us a tremendous amount about the “real Obama”– much more than silly pre-canned speeches. The Obama crowd knows this, but thinking about it makes them have to confront their own shallow banality about supporting a guy like this in the first place

Obama’s baggage heavy… I don’t suppose you noticed that the doormen run when they see Hillary coming.
This only seems heavy becasue of the media spotlight… but that spotlight becomes dimmer whenever people get to see obama for a while and hear him speak… it also becomes lighter when we can’yt feed our families and John McCain has to give a general itemization of wehat an extended war is going to cost…and everyone sees very clearly the toll on our vets… and the costs of caring for them (which is the only thing WE HAVE to do as a nation… billions and billions on kids and grandkids…and on down the line…
Obama won’t lose when because of some pastor… are you that close to your pastor? Everyone is making a pastor out to be like his parent? amd to be honest… I think he would get blamed less if it was a parent.
McCain’s mom talking about those “mormon people”…c’mon.
Obama is going to be president and everybody is nervous but everybody just doesn’t wan this to be blown.
because everyone knows he is the only one that can bring our standing back up in the world… the only one who can get people to pucsh their votes toward leaders in their countries to be pro-American again.

It is a dilemma for Obama…
He will be blamed if he just sits without doing anything…
He will be questioned about his sincerity when he stood up to dennounce his “uncle” and may have offended his black brothers who supported Rev Wright….
Poor guy…

Come on Bob! People do change! Reverend Wright seems to now be very envious of BO. You can tell it. He is now feeling that he has been overlooked. A man that defended this country only to return and be a Reverend and here is this young man that he grew close to who is running as the first (half American Black) for President. I say half American Black because a lot of you illiterate people forget that his mother is white. I suppose that you feel he is going to throw his mother under the bus too. I know…..

If ever there was a man who is sincere it is Barack Obama. His genuinely reflective eyes and his staight and honest look today and the hurt said it all.Give the man a break. In all the 20 years that he listened to Wright in his church or in a personal sense Reverend Wright always praised our great country and our leaders. Obama never heard the Rev say a single racist divisive or unpatriotic thing.Whenever the Rev went overboard neither Barack or Michelle were ever in the audience. If Barack or Michelle ever knew the true Wright, they would never have been married by him or have their children baptized by him nor be blessed by him before running to be president or have him as the campaigns spiritual mentor. They never knew the racist Wright.Barack Obama is the most sincere and truthful person I have known in my life.Barack showed great courage today and America found religion in the greatest leader ever to be found in the world.Raise all you Americans and kneel before the new Messiah, Barack Obama. Lets all pray for him, and hope the rest of the world find religion like us Americans.

Texas Lil
there is one candidate that will lose their seat in the senate possibly Hillary has done a lot of damage to a future campaign in a state where she would have lost if a strong republican ran against her.
and looking at her margins in New york…her home state (compared to Obama’s in Illinois) yeah… I think Obama wouldn’t have had to worry if it wasn’t going the way it is.
Hillary knew when she rolled the dice to throw the kitchen sink and pput herself ahead of the party and country…that she might not win her senate seat back if it went this way.
Unfortunately that bet is getting called by the dealer.

You are absolutely right. I am stunned at how America is willing to ‘overlook’ what in their eyes seems to be a ‘minor’ detail and gullibly believe a politicians attempt to clean up bad press. One commenter wrote “people do change”- and while that is true SOMETIMES, character rarely changes. The truth of the matter is that the sermons Wright gave were neither a rare radical moment for him, nor a surprise to Obama. I’m glad you touched on this issue, and am even more shocked at how he has herded all of his followers into a nice sheepfold who will follow him (quite scarily) where ever he may go.

I am glad Michelle finally gave him permission to throw Rev. Wrong under the bus, however….it is pretty crowded down there with Grandma and all those other “typical, white people”, all those “who cling to guns and religion”. Gosh, who’s next??? I would NEVER vote for HRC – McCain or anybody before Hillary – what kind of nation are we to look the other way when our President cheats repeatedly on his wife, is involved in multiple scandals, and both are chronic liars – I agree the Obama may not be the man but have some respect and self-pride. NO CLINTONS!!! They are bad for America and an embarassment to the world!!!

No matter what Obama does those that don’t want him elected on going to criticize and play the race card.
This includes the media two Clintons
and a McCain.
Still Obama leads Clinton in national polls.
Funny the media never mentions the fact that most of his supporters are Americans of the lighter persuasion.
Instead of embracing the fact that most of the people that voted for Obama in Pennsylvania and other states are White.
media outlets rather promote Clintons implications that White Americans are not ready for a Black president.

Obama is not electable, because his cult following has divided the party. Your hatred towards everthing and anything that doesn’t spell Obama, is destroying not only Obama’s chances, but the party’s chances.

Wonder how long its going to be before Rev Wright answers, Wright sure does not look like a man that will take this and say nothing, I don’t believe he is going to take this throwing of him under a bus by Obama and not respond.
I also feel a lot of black pastors that supported Wright is also going to respond because Obama sure made a lot of them look rather foolish.

Obama has been trying to separate himself from old politics but what he has done in this campaign is worse than any politics I have seen in my life. He is throwing his grandmother and his pastor under the bus to get ahead. What will he do next? The scary thing is no one knows. We can not blindly trust this guy to lead our country.

Why are there so many hypocrites in this country??? Everyone has been so determined to FIND “dirty” on Obama that they have resorted to guilt by association.
With that being said, I guest we will be STUCK with Bush remaining in office because McCain and Hillary have TONS and TONS of SHADY CHARACTERS in their past and present.
Heaven help us ALL if these jacked up double standards becomes the “norm”. I don’t think any HONEST American would like it if everything said and done by every person you’ve know was used to discredit you….Can we say “six degrees of separation”?
This is nothing more than new fill and an attempt to keep our focus off of the REAL ISSUES. I could care less about Clinton’s, McCain’s or Obama’s religion as long as he/she does what Bush has FAILED to do an allow religion to creep into government.

Some of these pastor were on MSM defending Wright and this black value system, now Obama coming and throwing water on all this am sure they are not going to be too happy with that.
I really don’t think they expected Obama to turn his back on them, after all they kept saying that is how they do it in there church, even Wright in his last speech says he was not being divisive it was just different.
Well we will see how it goes but my gut feeling is I don’t think they are going to be too happy with this new turn of events and Obama.

I pray what happened to Bob & John Kennedy and Martin King will not happen to Obama. I have no question; by far he is the better candidate and will be one of the best presidents America had. It is amazing regardless of the massive propaganda against him – the media played the same Rev Wrigth tape for the last two months non stop and still he is leading by far in all polls. For some reason this country is not blessed enough to have honest and sincere leaders.

There is nothing ABC news can do to stop Sen. Clinton from becoming President. About three years ago a well known televangelist, Perry Stone Jr., told his congregation that God spoke to him and said Sen. Clinton will be the next President. This information can be obtained from one of his published works on CD entitled “Strange Patterns of Recent American Presidents.” On track 7 of this CD, he tells us that Sen. Clinton will once again be in the White House. So give it up ABC News. And Barack, your days are numbered.

The appearance may be that he is back peddling, but the reality is that he is not. I realize that people who needed an excuse not to vote for him, will decide not to do so. But those who are voting for him are doing so because they get it. This campaign is not and never has been about Rev. Wright. Just because the media has made it about that doesn’t mean the voters have to make it about that. Obama was in a tough place. Rev. Wright said some horrible things that Obama denounced from the beginning and has continued to denounce. It was enough for his supporters, but not for the media. They have followed Rev. Wright around to every speaking engagement and hung on his every word. So Obama has to respond. He can’t allow the media to keep putting all of these ridiculous comments out there from Rev. Wright and Obama not respond. Let’s be real. The media doesn’t care about Rev. Wright. They are trying to use him to hurt Obama. So, while I wish he didn’t have to talk about it, the reality is that he does. Because as with John Kerry and the Swift Boat ads, you can’t ignore these things no matter how ridiculous they may seem. Obama did the right thing by denouncing the words but not the person. He’s doing the right thing now by denouncing the person as well. What’s the difference you ask? In the beginning, there were a few sound bites from old sermons that in no way represented the man as a whole. Obama made it clear that Rev. Wright spoke for Rev. Wright and not Obama. Recently, Rev. Wright has begun making statements about Obama speaking as a “politician”. That implies that Obama is only saying things to get votes. I do not believe this and I think it was important for Obama to say Rev. Wright has gone too far in trying to speak for him. And if Rev. Wright can say that, perhaps he doesn’t know Rev. Wright as well as he thought he did. Think of this like any good relationship gone sour. You want to believe in the person until they do things that force you to realize that you no longer can.

@SJ,
Duh, he insulted Obama yesterday, whay do you think he said it was a personal insult to him and his campaign, if Obama had been just a politician he would have thrown Wright under the Bus on day one, instead he took the high road, and even stood up and defended Wright, and then Wright stabbed him in the back on monday, he disrespected him

“I can no more disown him than I could disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I could my “white” grandmother.”
One thing Rev. Wright was “right” on, is that Barack Obama is just a politican.

Nothing has changed between Obama and Reverend Wright..Obama still belongs to TRINITY church, Reverend Wright church, and he didn’t tell Reverend Wright to go to hell..so this is as I said before a stage fight to confused the American people on the fundamental truth that Obama and Wright are bound together in friendship and in their purpose to bring Black liberation theology to the White House.

@axt113: If Obama felt Wright insulted him geez this man is his pastor for 20 years you don’t call a media conference and insult your pastor back in return do you?
All he had to do was call Wright and talk to him in private, not shove it down his throat for the entire world to speak about it, what kind of loyalty is that to a man that he once spoke so highly about?

Frankly, I am tired hearing people demonize Mr. Obama. His strength and ability to lead our nation he’s already shown by motivating and inspiring “politician-non-believers” such as myself to register and vote for the first time. With the help of the media, America is going to make the biggest mistake by not listening to what he stands for and voting Hillary or worse yet mcbush into the white house. I was initially going to vote for Clinton but after seeing how far she will go to “win” and reclaim the white house resorting to negativity I quickly did my own research on Mr. Obama. I do not fault him for what his former pastor stands for nor believes in as Mr. Obama clearly is his own person. I can’t believe how people are accusing him of playing the race card when he’s not black enough to claim black and not white enough to be called white. He lost the debate in Pennsylvania because he chose to refrain from acting like Hillary who will stop at nothing to be president. Her negative strategy is what is dividing the nation!!!! why is she forgiven for her lies about being under attack in Bosnia–words that came out of her mouth over and over– and Mr. Obama is being crucified for words that came out of another person’s mouth or deeds done by another person(ayers) when he was only 8 years of age!!! This is ridiculous people!!! Everybody keeps saying how Obama is not experienced enough but neither was president lincoln and he lead our country just fine. Mr. Obama embodies the leader we so desperately need. the guilty by association bs is just that nothing but BS. Those of you who claim to be religious how many of you really follow your religious beliefs and or teachings??????? it’s time we come together as a nation if we really want to start seeing a positive change. Lets stop feeding into the negative media and attempts of Mrs. Clinton to divide the minorites/whites/poor/rich. Mr. obama has integrity and a dream and his politics is not tainted. hillary on the other hand has Bill and knows exactly what to say and how to sway her non believers to believe what she says she stands for just as Mr. clinton made us believe that he did not inhale nor have any sexual relations with lewinsky.. sometimes people having experience is not always an advantage….

Both of these guys essentially accuse Barbara Reynolds, the black female minister (and Howard University Divinity professor) who organized the Press Club event, of witchcraft — of causing Wright’s remarks by “chatting” with him before the event.

Obama is a politician and is acting political. He can fool some of the people some of the time, but he can’t fool all the people all the time. The company you keep says a lot about the type of man you are.
The three major themes that his campaign is based on are Judgment, Change and Hope, yet when investigated his actions don’t seem to match his rhetoric.
Judgment- Where was his judgment when it came to his personal and longtime connections with people such as Wright, Ayers and Rezko?
Change- How can we expect that he will actually try and change the way Washington works, when he sat in a church for 20 years and listened to the preaching of a very angry and divisive pastor and did nothing to try and change the tone?
Hope –How can we follow his message of hope when he penned Wright as his “spiritual mentor” (now he is trying to say he was just his pastor) and appointed him to the spiritual advisory committee on his campaign? Wright’s preaching implies he is hopeless about the future and progress of America and that message was passed on to his congregation over the last 20 years that Obama sat in the pews listening.
The future of our country has to be more than words. Hope must be used to inspire positive change. Change can only happen through action. Judgment must be based on integrity, follow through and personal associations, not simply one speech. When you look at the full spectrum of Obama’s actions, associations and integrity there isn’t much that proves that his rhetoric will be anything more than just words.

Let’s see:
Obama leads by so many pledged delegates it is impossible for HRC to catch up. He has to loose all remaining contests by 40 points for her to overtake him in pledged delegates. Her fuzzy math attempts to recalculate the popular vote won’t help.
More superdelegates have announced their support for Obama after her 9 point win in PA than for HRC.
Obama announced his plan for a 50 state investment in voter registration and joint fund raising with the DNC, aiding all Democrats running in November and leaving no state behind. HRC has not. She does not have the money or the support.
She only wants debates and because she can’t get her message out due to mismanagement of campaign funds and lack of support from grass roots voters. Shows her desperation.
Obama has the real forward thinking ideas. They have been up on his web site for months.
Who has the real momentum in this race?

GIVE ME A BREAK, WE ARE ALL HYPOCRITS!! Listen to ourselves, it’s discusting!! I don’t care if you are Pro-Obama, Pro-Hillary, or Pro-McCain, read these blogs and you tell me, what the hell has changed with the attitudes of Americans that set us free from our past?
I read the religious community bashing Rev Wright as being racist and anti american and not being “christian”. are you serious? The very basic principal’s of religion is that WE ALL ALL SINNERS!!! “He who has not SINNED cast the first stone” Yet we keep IGNORING GOD and cast those stones as if we’re sinnless?
I hear others say that we need to “forget the horrible ways we’ve treated people in the past, what’s done is done, move on”. But yet here we are participating in malicious, hostile and offensive attacks against anyone who says or does anything we don’t like, and we don’t care who we destroy in the process. So how have we changed as a people? as a Nation? How are we keeping those types of attitudes and distructive actions in the past? Read these blogs, and tell me we are NOT the same people who are willing to do the things we have in the past.
And to justify our actions we say things like “the media” or “Obama” or “Hillary” are dividing this County? We blame everyone else for our actions STILL? How can you or anyone else “Divide” a people if they ARE NOT WILLING to be divided? We CHOOSE to divide or not divide, WE CHOOSE to write the uplifting or demoralizing things in these blogs, WE CHOOSE to accept distortions as facts and perpetuate lies, or WE CHOOSE to insist on facts over distortions and perpetuate truths.
WE CHOOSE to accept that dirty campaigning and smear tactics as a legitimate part of the process. Why?
I had Hope! Not because of a single man, but because of a leader of a postive movement for real change. If Obama loses the Presidency, it isn’t because he failed, its because we have.

Antonn: I think you have your math wrong. Oregon has more delegates than Kentucky or West Virginia. Montana and South Dakota combined have more delegates than West Virginia, and are equal in amount to Kentucky. Once again the math is against Clinton. In fact, Obama can just win NC and OR and lose the other contests, and he will still be ahead of CLinton in delegates by nearly 100. Sorry…

People who go around bashing others and calling them names have low self-esteem, personal strife in their lives, feel power in attacking people because they feel insecure about themselves, and usually have trouble adjusting to new ideas or situations that they cannot clearly grasp. Because change scares them, they resort to anger to mask their fears.

It’s a trick.
This is “same ole politics” at its finest.
Barack’s campaign people, who are cunning, told him to pull this big stunt to try and cut Wright as being a “future threat” during the general election.
The real message people need to see right away is that Barack is an experienced trickster, and he’s playing his followers right into approving his broken character.
Barack is a liar and a flip flopper, a windsock, and a cunning politician.
Don’t fall for it!! You’ll be so sorry if you do.
Hillary has baggage all right, but it’s not going to stop her from taking care of the working class, from implementing Universal Healthcare to increasing Education benefits.
Americans MUST see this IMMEDIATELY and not make the mistake of putting Barack into the Primary. It’s all going to backfire on his campaign, don’t let it be too late to choose a better candidate!!
Posted by: No Follow Obama | April 29, 2008, 10:14 pm 10:14 pm
There’s no way this thing is over. Even if Wright keeps quiet and doesn’t answer Obama back, the press will follow him until he blurts something out. Then it will be news all over again. And if what he says at that point is inflammatory (as it well might be), it will headline the news. Anyone who thinks this is going away is as naive as Obama claims he’s been for the past 20 years.

I also sort of felt sorry for Obama at the press conference today. It did give a little insight though into how he would react to hard questions if elected. I just think he is way out of his league having never been properly vetted by the press before. At this point, I think he would have been better off to make a short, simple statement on Wright’s rantings yesterday rather that the forced ramblings from reporter questions which just opened up more questions. In hindsight, I bet he is wishing he had at least finished out his first Senate term before running for President. I am just surprised that his advisors seemed so unprepared for this whole Wright issue coming up, maybe because the press lured them into a false sense of security through the first part of his campaign.

The Obama campaign and his myriad of supporters fail to see that Obama’s campaign is mortally wounded. Obama fails to see how his membership in this church and his close relationship with the Rev. Wright deeply offended and hurt many Americans. How can Obama talk about change and bringing people together when he has immersed himself in this anger and hatred at white people, jews, Israel and the United States government for 20 years? What hurts and offends me as a woman, is that the pundits seem to only care that a black man get the nomination because of its significance. The media has thrown Hillary and women under the bus with Obama’s grandma.

On Greta tonight, a good friend of Rev Wright’s said they had suggested that Obama should have distanced himself from the Rev. about 3yrs. ago, because they knew this was going to be brought up sometime during the elections, but they thought it would not be during the primaries but rather closer to the general election. All political tactics!!!!!!! America beware.

What happens when the Reverend Wright decides to write a tell-all book about Obama and Michelle? What happens when Reverend Wright decides to talk about what Obama really thinks about Iran, Syria, Hamas, Israel, or Pakistan? The Reverend Wright said at the National Press Club he will be following Obama into the White House, whether Obama wants him there or not. And why was Al Sharpton on Larry King Live getting into this and speaking for Obama? This is getting all too crazy and there is a country that needs to be run. Obama does not have the backbone to stand up to Reverend Wright and company, how will Obama stand up to America’s enemies? Oh, yes, the liberal left believes that America has no enemies – WRIGHT?

Bush says stupid stuff that is demonstratively false about ANWAR saving the day. This ain’t the worst of it. It is bad enough that he can look at the camera with a straight face and play the anwar nonsense to the voters. The worst of it is that he expects the you are stupid enough to fall for it. Enter Hillary Clinton and John McCain. Both Hillary and John take up the Bush Stupidity Challenge. They both expect alotta you to fall for it, too. These two are staying the course, I’d say.

America has the attention span of a moth. LOok at the purty light. People were forgetting about Wright even while they were still thinking about him.
A candidate makes up a story about being under sniper fire and no one remembers it today.
People don’t take ministers seriously in this country. We’re not deeply religious. In fact, our whole country is founded on religious tolerance. Our first settlers were religious outcasts of England. Throw in some Quakers, Catholics, Calvinists, jesuits, Anabaptists, Lutherans etc. (as early as mid 1600s) and you’ve got people who learned not to care what their neighbor’s minister was saying.
Today is no different. Americans don’t care about what some minister says, even a would-be president’s. That’s why Wright didn’t hurt Obama before and won’t hurt him now. All the wacky ministers on the right, no one cares. Every year they come out and lament God punishing the U.S. and then support the Republicans — no one cares.
The only people who care about Wright are those with an agenda and those in the media. I talk to people in all walks of life – people don’t care. The polls have shown people don’t care.
Show me a Republican talking about Wright and I’ll show you someone who doesn’t want to talk about the president going down as the worst in U.S. history, who nearly doubled the national debt, sent 4000 blue-collar boys(and girls) off to die in the desert for WMDs that never existed, devalued the dollar, increased the trade deficit, watched 50million American men women and children go without medical care, passed a law making it harder for working folks to declare bankruptcy, ignored the intelligence warnings the month before 9/11, made it harder to unionize, changed regulations to make more people “managers” not subject to overtime pay, ruined our reputation in the world, let Bin Laden live the pastoral life in peace while we fought a non-enemy in Iraq, trampled the constitution with illegal invasion of the privacy of US citizens, instituted torture of fellow human beings, and generally waged a presidency of disinformation, deceit, arrogance, and dishonest.

I consider this just another BIG LIE of Obama. This man should step out of the political spot light now but apologize to all his supporters first.
Posted by: Mary | April 30, 2008, 2:30 am 2:30 am
Obama singled out several statements of Wright’s to condemn:
The AIDS thing, which he had to have heard before through the snippets – and there was no way to “take out of context”.
His praise of Farrakhan – who has not only endorsed Obama, but Obama returned the favor when he attended the Million Man March with Wright.
Wright’s equating U.S. war efforts with terrorism – which he couldn’t possibly have missed in Wright’s God d*mn America sermon, unless he was too irresponsible to listen to that sermon in full to know the facts behind the sound bites.
Obama knows very well who Wright is and where he stands on African American and world issues. He has called him his spiritual mentor and stated that he consults him before making major political moves.
Say what you will about Wright; he says what he means and stands behind his words. Obama is just another politician, and we now see without a doubt that he’ll say and do anything to get elected.
Don’t worry though; he and Wright will kiss and make up should Obama take the White House with Michelle as mediator. Then they can work together to advance their African American, African and anti-Israel agendas.

I can’t imagine him talking to “America’s worst enemies” as he’s vowed to do without pre-conditions or negotiations.

Hutchison got it right. 20 years he sat there and he’s lying if he says he didn’t know this man’s views. This was a transparent political move after a night of polling to see what people think. Several people from upcoming primaries report being polled the night before. Obama could have said the same things at his press conference the day before and didn’t – he waited till his internal polling was done and decided he had to do it or lose the election. So much for “new” politics – sounds like the same old politics from mister wet behind the ears – we don’t need another novice in the white house – we’ve had 7 years of that already and it’s been a disaster.

He is my spiritual advisor… he’s not my spiritual advisor. I can’t disown him… I can disown him. He is the black community (and therefore can’t be disowned)… he isn’t the black community.
He is going to pay a terrible but deserved price for going along with the angry black minister and the angry black wife all these years. Even if we take him at his word that it didn’t poison him, he let his children be steeped in this environment. Oprah left the same church over disagreements with Wright. Why didn’t he?

The Rev. Wright says Obama is a politician and he the Rev. is a Pastor. Could it be that Rev. Wright speaks what he believes and is therefore honest. He sees Obama’s denial of having heard these sermons before as dishonest and as a Pastor can not sit back and allow the lies to continue. Obama could not and would not disown Wright untill he heard Rev. Wright call Obama a politician, the thing Obama claims not to be. Obama did not disown Rev. Wright for saying that America manufactured AIDS to kill blacks or had 911 coming to them, Obama only disowned Wright when Wright called Obama a politician. Obama did not sit in the church for 20 years and bring his kids to the church unless he agreed with the principles in the Rev. Wright sermons. Obama lies while Rev. Wright appears to be honest.
I also will vote McCain if the DNC is fool enough to nominate Obama.

Wow! Unbelievable comments about Obama from folks who never supported him anyway. Most are quoting or half quoting what they heard someone else say and the others are… well you know what I’m saying. Wright was definitely wrong, but he and his congregation are not joined at the hip. Sunday is but one day in a week and we don’t all go to church every Sunday. I know many of you can identify with that. When we marry, we do so for better or worse, to death do us part. Unlike Sunday, it’s a 24-7 event. But then something happens. The person we thought we knew and loved, changes over time; sometimes 20 years. We try to deny it, but then there is that last straw, and we divorce them because we recognize that we don’t have the same values and beliefs anymore, if ever, and we certainly don’t want to be like them or support them going forward. Life happens, but who the heck is Hutchinson? We would be better served by your focusing on the important issues in this great political race. The circus has left town. Let’s move on.
