Nightline Debate Wrap

Here’s the video of the spot we did for Nightline last night.

The reality is that Obama came out of the debate victorious. He knows his topics very well and his plans and Hill the Bosnian General was too small during the debate, clinging on very superficial things rather than looking at and discussing real issues in real people’s life. God bless America and God bless Obama. OBAMA08.

Who wrote the capital gains tax cut question that Gibson read of the cue card?
Everyone knows that tax revenues go up temporarily when the capital gains tax goes down.
This is because people holding stocks over the long term now have an INCENTIVE to sell. But over time a status quo settles in and the tax revenues decline.
Dood coulda read screened the cue cards b4 he read them on air.

Thanks for the COOKIES Jake! LOL
And no, there won’t be a lot a likeability crumbs left for her after such bitter personal attacks on the insurmountable front runner who wants to talk the issues.
Poor Hillary. She can’t even bow out gracefully anymore.

Finally-some equal questioning for the American Idol-
Anyone who watched that debate and didn’t clearly see how comfortable Senator Clinton was with the most difficult of substance questions compared to Senator Obama’s uhs- just needs to adjust their blinders- The press has been covering for a long time now and from today’s news reports, most continue. Fortunately for the country, many people watched and now they’ll be able to believe their lyin eyes. We can only hope for the sake of our children’s futures that voting is based on reality not media hype-words and aspirations cannot endure when there is nothing to back them up.

What a joke ABC news turned out to be. “Keep the people dumb and uninformed” should be your new slogan

Obama’s associations with Farrahkan, Wright, Ayers and Refko should be fully vetted. Obama served on a board with Mr. Ayers in the 1990’s, the Woods Foundation, which was a paid, underlined PAID directorship position. They worked together, attended fundraisers together, Ayers held fundraisers and was a contributor to Obama’s Chicago’s campaign, plus they are neighbors and visited each other quite often. Enough said. This relationship deserves being vetted. What’s the fear?
DON’T FORGET THESE PEOPLE: Wright, Ayers, Sinclair, Farrakhan, the Black Panthers, Rezko, Meeks, Malley, Auchi, Khalidi, McPeaks, Michelle Obama.
Imagine OBAMA and ALL these friends, associates, endorsers, etc., having a Pres.-Elect party?
After a few — Wright could get up and give another, ‘HATE WHITEY AMERICA!’, speech…while Rezko`s trying to sell the White House to the Russians…before Lewis Ayers gets a chance to full-fill his life-long dream of blowing it up…meanwhile, BO and Sinclair renew some bad habits together…as Michele likes to watch…would be quite a party…anyone for crashing it…and you thought the Clintons were bad in the White House…
I’d much rather have the Clintons there. Maybe – and that’s a HUGE maybe – involved in a scandal which doesn’t affect the American people — this is why the media ignores this garbage for what it is and will continue to ignore it as old news. Without the media, Obama can’t use it effectively enough to beat her…which makes her far more electable.
Meanwhile, Hillary’s policies could have us in prosperous times — compare that to BO and Friends…who, quite frankly, may be dangerous to the American people.
McCain’s going to wipe the floor with Obama!
They’ll rip him apart, along with each and every one of those “PEOPLE/GROUPS MENTIONED ABOVE”!!!

obama did win the debate.
If he had won the debate all of his supporters on this blog-would not have their backs up. as usual if you are not all in obama’ corner-or if obama is not preaching to us thing we already know-and when we are not finding out all of these things we are finding out about him-obama supporters look to blame someone-and usually it is Sen. Clinton.
well-they didn’t ask him if he was comfortable, and they didn’t pander to him last night-as you have grown use to.
so you blame the abc crew, and accuse geo. of being biased-well what about msnbc, cnn and all of those people. you folks should try to be fair.
if any of you obama supporters would pick up each of these candidates plans for what they will do for the ocuntry-
you will see Sen. Clinton has the better plans for this country.

Clinton’s attacks are pretty much backfiring for me.
First of all, it’s hard to believe anything she says.
Second of all, it seems like she is more personally obsessed with destroying her fellow democrat than she is committed to her own policies/agendas.
I wince every time she opens her mouth. Which is basically 24-7.

I have to say that this was one of the WORST debates I have seen.
I was hoping that the moderators would have addressed the issues instead of bringing up STUPID things such as flag pins (neither were Hillary nor the moderators wearing one either).
Come on. This should have be A LOT better.

Hedge fund managers income is all capital gains, that’s the point. They are taxed at lower rate than if they earned same income as salary or hourly employee, etc.

dave from new jersey,
I’ll bet you think cnn is the best new team on tv.
and i’ll be you think fox is fair and balanced
and who do you think should get an award for the best political coverage
anderson cooper
chris matthews
keith olberman
cafferty
wolf blitzer
candi crawley
or andrea mitchell
I know I have left so out.
because the list is long
on the msm who seem their only reason to exist these days is to bash sen. clinton and give obama a pass.
obama should have been vetted long ago.
and if the first forty min had been on grilling sen. clinton on bosnia, and other non issues would you be happy?

Sounds like every one is mad that thier presumtious candidate was handed kid gloved questions, like in past debates. Again he stumbles and his flock come to defend him. He can’t answer simple moral questions with out trying to run around the questions. First he disowned Wright and then he claimed Wright was a patriot. He does the same on policy issues for the last year or so, never gives substanive stances and tap dances around his plans because they are flimsy. I say Hillary should have just let him keep on talking for he was drowning himself, she did not need to add anything. The media should have taken the kid gloves off Obama a long time ago, the more he talks with out telepromoter the more he sinks.

MYCOUNTRY-
You list your list of dubious personal connections to Obama, guilt by association being Hillary’s latest strategy to destroy the reputation of a great American.
Unfortunately this blog does not have the data capacity to list all of the greasy liars, political weasels, crooked politicians, ultra-rich foreign dictators that she is linked to. She can’t win this thing straight, so she’s got morons all over the world writing idiotic and misinformed blog posts about Obama’s lapel pin. That’s right, MORONS.
I am completely disgusted by Hillary Clinton.

Hillary won the debate, in my humble opinion. She was clear and articulated her stance on the issues and did her best not to distract to the obvious regarding Obama–he is too inexpereinced, has too many skeletons and double talks his way out of many situations. He could NEVER win against McCain. Please, people, think. Check the voting records. Do your own homework as I have done. Don’t just read blogs and news stories. Look back at facts, records and watch debates. Even if this is boring. I can promise you that you will regret nominating Obama, as he hasn’t a chance against repubicans. He reminds me of a freshman debate captain. Cute and all, but very novice. I have written two blogs i my entire life…nuf said.

I find it about time Obama was questioned even thou it was with kid gloves about the pin, his mentor, the william aires, but he answers that the people do not want to know, well that shows his elitism because the people do want to know, we already know he is a Marxist, now we need to know his decisions if they are good or bad and it seems his are horrible.

Once upon a time Americans were proud to elect smart leaders. Now they want to elect the beer guzzling idiot next door as evidenced by Bush. So used to lies and innuendo that truth and justice now lie on the ground as ashes.
Last night’s display was indicative of the cancer of idiocy that infects this country. That ABC thinks pieces of metal made in China represent patriotism is appalling. What’s worse is that too many Americans are eager to follow that path. If the goal is to scrutinize and denigrate anyone any candidate ever had even the flimsiest contact with, rather than discuss issues that affect us all, then no one is qualified to lead this country.
It is no wonder we are in the situation we find ourselves.
A nation of sheep begets a government of wolves

Well Another debate? under the belt, very poor performance on ABC part. As Time magazine says it was trivial pursuit. George and Charlie did a masterful job of keeping us in the dark about issues that might mean something.
In the meantime Obama picked up another superdelegate in OK today, and his campaign announced that some very prominent Hillary supporters will announce their change to Obama Thursday morning. They state because she has gone too negative.

Posted by: Thinking | April 17, 2008, 9:57 am 9:57 am

Good people in this country have been thrown under the bus by Obama and his campaign. Gerri Ferraro is no racist. Donna Brazile — who is clearly in the tank for Obama — worked for the Mondale campaign and said not one word in defense of Gerri. Mayor Nutter (who Daschle called “Nutty” on a television program just this past Sunday), has had to take his email account down for all of the hate mail he receives from Obama supporters who just can’t tolerate dissent. Tavis Smiley is leaving his radio program for the same reason. People are marginalized at the caucuses by his trained staff. ABC’s comment boards are jammed with rhetoric that I haven’t heard since the last time I was on a school ground.
Hope and change have morphed into such a message of bitter, projected intolerance for anything that the campaign and its fold does not support that the damage to the Democratic party is permanent. The Republican party will be rebuilt on the backs of the members thrown out by Obama. What they will discover in November is that those that are leaving are the “Little Red Hens” of the party and they will be stuck with the “Henny Pennys” as Senator Obama begins to experience some REAL questioning.

Posted by: beebop | April 17, 2008, 9:59 am 9:59 am

Obama wasn’t laughing last night! He just can’t figure out why people won’t just let go and skip over all of those details of who he is associated with, does business with, so that he can get on to changing the world. Irritation, frustration, even condescending whining of “let’s move on past my personal weakness” characterized his performance last night. His best shot at Hillary was for the pardons Bill, not Hillary issued. He can’t defend himself in this debate, how would he far, not only on the world stage but in that infamous “winner take all, no holds barred, cage battle to the death snake pit” AKA the White House.
How will that play in a general election when people really vote and they can’t caucus and coerce voters? This is the system he would have to run in and all of the rhetoric of “let’s not be negative” will be useless wailing as he is eaten bit by bit by the Republican machine.

Posted by: AmazonTraveler | April 17, 2008, 10:00 am 10:00 am

Now that the so called Hillary supporters got what they want in this debate, they’re STILL copying and pasting their smear lists from the racist and redneck anti-Obama sites out there. Always the same stuff, we’ve ssen it a 101 times now. Nobody cares, for real and patriotic Americans care about the ISSUES.
You folks must be pretty scared that the black man is REALLY winning this. And yes, he clearly is. He’s the best, you know. He will change this country for the better and make it the world’s most powerful and impressive democracy again.
Of this heated primary season most Americans in the end will remember only these two words:

Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos were out to do a deplorable job. The event was supposed to benefit the Democratic Party; instead, it looked like the RNC had hired the moderators to escalate the trite trivialities and keep the candidates from addressing the real issues.

Posted by: TK | April 17, 2008, 10:02 am 10:02 am

I thought this debate was a travesty and a diservice to the American people. It was like The Star, National Enquirer and OK magazines all rolled up into one.
Remember when their were REAL debates about ISSUES??? BRING BACK THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS.
Charlie and George should be publically flayed. Do they have NO SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY in their chosen field. Ok, so George has an excuse, this was something he was drafted to do after his political career. However, I assume Charlie Gibson went to college and studied journalism. He ought to be ashamed of himself.

The questioning at last night’s Democrat primary presidental “debate”
between Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama was Mickey Mouse journalism at best and at worst, a setup, hit job, on Sen. Obama, pure and simple!
But, it won’t work. Charlie Gibson has lost my respect as a straight news man and everyone knows or should know that his co-questioner, George S., is a former Clinton lackey!
Corporate media, yack!!

Obama supporters “backs are up” as someone put earlier because Hillary has never been vetted on her garbage during any election because it off limits and last nights debate proved people’s worse fears about Bill Clinton’s ex press secretary running the Political News Coverage for a national news service.
ABC took a hit last night… and I think it was a big one. I am sure there are many at the network that are asking questions today. More importantly there are many board members at Disney calling Bob Iger this morning I am sure…to say …”What happened…jounalistic integrity and reputation is important.”
They are not dummies.

I applaud Barack Obama for repeatedly taking the moderators (and our politics as a whole) to task for this disgusting charade. I wish Hillary Clinton had done the same, but I did not expect her to. She has learned, not only to live with this stuff, but to embrace it.
Barack Obama will not play along, and has made it his mission to move our country beyond this kind of thing. I believe this is one of the best reasons to vote for him.

Posted by: Cate fm cupertino | April 17, 2008, 10:06 am 10:06 am

ABC did the worst job of all stations hosting these debates. Charlie Gibson and George were absolutely biased in favor to Clinton. It was another attempt by the racist media to help Hilliary demean Obama’s character. I am especially disappointed by the waste of time devoted to gossip and issues of significantly less importance to the American public like the economy, health care, and foreign policy. The show was cheap tabloid trash. I expected more from Charlie and George. I thought they were much above the level they shamelessly demonstrated. …and the racism continues, but right will win inspite of your injustice.

They were rewarded with another Oklahoma Superdelegate for Obama today and the endorsement of the Philly Daily News of Barack Obama for President.
One doesn’t fool the people who care that easily!
Four more Superdelegates for Obama in 24 hours…
Thank you all, guys and Madame!

If you watched the debate last night then anyone who ask why Hillary should stay in the race got their answer! Last night put a bright light on why Obama is not the right person to take on McCain this fall! When Obama is thrown a hardball he misses badly and is dismissive of those who throw them! For once last night we got a glimpse of how he would answer the GOP attack machine and the answer was not well! He was less than forth coming on Ayers and Whight, at one point he tried to get away with saying that he had disowned Wright unitl he was challenged on that by George, then he back downed! Hillary with all her baggage displayed a calm and forcefull image and showed why she is the better of the two at handling tough questions and who the real fighter in this campaign! Is it enough to win her the nomination probably not but without her it is obvious that we inherit a canidate with so many unknows that his ability to win is in great doubt! If she wins by 10 or more in PA then maybe there is hope for her and the party! If not then there are tough days ahead for this party!

If the new politics is attack from your campaign and then pretend tlike your above it all I’m not having it.
If the new politics is take a position and even have your handwriting to prove it then deny it later forget it.
If the new politics is to have no experience or background and accuse people of attacking when they point it out no way.
If the new politics is to take the frontrunners policies then not be able to express them or to constantly get confused I am doubtful.
I do not believe that most people think Obama is well distanced from Wright. i do not believe that Obama will not have lots of fallout from Rezko going forward.
I do not believe that if Obama somehow gets in office he will be able to build coalitions.
Any poll that says that Obama is not damaged by his poor judgement is totally off base.
Let the voters speak!
I’m not crazy about mcCain’s policies but he does have a longstanding track record of reaching across the aisle and taking a centrist approach,
Will the media continue to give Obama a free ride all the way to the White House or will balance be restored when the Republicans start running.
Obama is a “pretty good politician” with no experience or record of acheivement. Oh I forgot he lived in Indonesia as a toddler and he had a college trip to Pakistan….that makes him more experienced than anyone in the US.

I am so angry at the nonsense in this country with all the hype and drama, while hard working people are falling apart and all you as a news organization could offer us, was a debate rivaling “Days of Our Lives” for soap drama of the year? God, what’s going on makes me sick to my stomach…

Obama won the debate if for no other reason that demonstrating that he will not destroy the democratic party. Why are we so willing to simply have outward symbols of patriotism? When does one person have the right to define what patriotism is? How easy to hate your brother and wear a pin. What Obama says is actions speak louder than pins!!! He also was attempting to say that people vote against their economic interests when they have lost faith in their governments. Could he be just al little tired after running such a brilliant campaign? It is easy for Hillary to say that a poor person is resilient, proud and happy as she takes millions to the bank. WAKE UP..It’s going to take more than a flag pin create a just and fair society for all!!

It is so humorous to me that after this debate and all the questions that Obama was forced to answer, and did a poor job doing so, everyone in the media focuses on how Clinton was so negative. Could it be that the Obama campaign emailed out talking points for the press to somehow dismiss the fact that he couldn’t handle the type of scrutiny that Clinton has had to endure this entire campaign? It was briefly addressed in the debate last night how Obama and his campaign have continually pushed negative talking points against Clinton to the press behind the scenes, while in front of the camera pretends to be above that type of politics. Why do you in the media so willingly use his talking points to try and steer this election in his favor? He showed that he couldn’t handle hard questions last night, something that a democratic candidate will have to do. That is the main take-away from this debate; maybe you could try and address that. Don’t be bullied into reporting only positives for Obama because many of his supporters are overly vocal on blogs. You should not let their mob mentality affect your reporting. If they were really a bigger group than Clinton supporters, he would have won already, but the truth is the support for Clinton is as strong as Obama’s, just not as intimidating and nasty.

ABC and their moderators were in the tank for Clinton because they dared asked Obama to explain himself.
Patriotism, racist and America hating pastors and neighbors are “trivial”

To those who say Obama say Obama won’t destroy the Democratic Party!
The novice destroyed it the minute he entered the race.
He and the left wing fed into racism by twisting anothers words into a racist statement. When it has been his associates who have been more flamboyount with thier racist statments.
He makes statements like he is smarter than McCain and Clinton on foriegn policy but has only been to 4 other countries.
Get ready to become liberal socialistic society if Obama wins. He will take the moral, values and everything this country was built on and wipe it out in 4 years.

ABC, Thank you for an informative debate last evening. I’m a Clinton supporter and thought you were balanced and I thought the questions to both candidates were fair. I especially liked the podiums. I’d grown tired of having them sit so close to each other and felt it had constrained discussion.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE provide us with feedback about what seemed like jeering inside the hall at the conclusion. It seemed that Gibson and Stephanopolis visibly flinched at some remark that was made.
Also, I’d like to see a story about the ‘spin’ being given today. I’m really distressed too by the virulence of some of Obama’s supporters – they seem incredibly aggressive and bullying. Is this a tactic to threaten the DNC into pushing Obama into the general election even even though they’re learning he’s not ready?

Posted by: s. valenti | April 17, 2008, 10:42 am 10:42 am

Obama is nowhere near qualified to be president. Brian Williams and Tim Russert did the same type of debate a month ago, but instead of asking Obama the hard questions everything was directed at Hillary. Guess what? She actually answered all of the questions and was able to handle the scrutiny and her supporters rallied behind her- not because we were upset that she was asked the hard questions (we are not naive, we expected it) but because she was so excellent at keeping her cool and addressing them.

Posted by: Andrea | April 17, 2008, 10:45 am 10:45 am

“I guess you missed a more significant endorsement this week for Hillary Clinton, where 100 (one hundred) mayors of small towns across Pennsylvania simultaneously endorsed Hillary Clinton”
I understood only 19 were still prepared to stand up for her. LOL. Besides, all these newspaper endorsements, and certainly TODAY’s endorsement of Obama by PA’s biggest newspaper, AFTER the debate, will have a much larger impact if you like it or not.
And what about the FIVE superdelegates that went for Obama in the last 24 hours? Compare that to 19 mayors! Haha.

We need to have debate like the way ABC did last night. Because so far we know about these candidates only from media bias for Obama. I am glad to hear right from Obama’s mouth about Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers… o .. ya ABC forgot ask him about Rezko and Auchi an Iraqi billionaire.
Anyway, I show how mumble Obama explained last night.

Posted by: Linda | April 17, 2008, 10:48 am 10:48 am

William Ayers is a professor at a university in Chicago, whom on many occassions, lectured on stage with Obama. Mr. Obama, when ask what is his relationship with Ayers, he claims, “We have a friendly relationship.”
It is very disturbing to know that this man teaches at an american university after saying that he regret not doing enough to bomb the US Pentagon.
What’s more disturbing is that Obama seemed to have no problem with that

Chales and George stunk, and asked a lot stupid questions to Obama, issues were lacking and Hillary looked like a whinner. looked like wed. night Obama bashing night. George S. was not what I would call fair and balanced, he did work for Bill Clinton….

The PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS today:
VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA
THE CHOICE in Tuesday’s Democratic presidential primary is not only the one between a white woman and a black man. It’s a choice between the past and the future.
More specifically, the nation must decide how to face the future racing toward us in the form of slumping home sales, unstable financial markets and increased joblessness – and staring at us from the Green Zone in Iraq and the beds at veterans hospitals.
Should Democrats choose someone who will employ hard-won – even bitter – experiences gained in a past Democratic administration, or reach beyond political truisms toward a new (and untried) model of governing?
Neither choice is obvious. Perhaps that’s why the race has gone on for so long.
But the long slog through 44 primaries and caucuses has confirmed for us that Sen. Barack Obama’s vision of change – and the way he plans to pursue it – is what we need right now. Badly.
This is a campaign that really began six years ago, on Sept. 11, 2001. Not only was the U.S. attacked and seriously wounded, it did not bounce back the way “the land of the free and home of the brave” should have. In fact, it still suffers from post-traumatic stress.
That day and its aftermath cried out for a revolution of values: a clear-eyed shared vision, a cooperative effort, a unified purpose. It cried out for a recognition that conventional warfare and conventional responses to domestic challenges in an era of globalization were not enough.
That cry was not answered.
Instead, the Bush administration embarked on an unconscionable plan to exploit the fear we all felt that day for political gain. It lied us into a disastrous war in Iraq, a staggering, record deficit at home, a weakening of the constitutional structure on which the country rests, and poisonous lines of division among Americans. It led us to a place where 81 percent of Americans say we’re on the wrong track.
Contrary to Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign slogan, we believe Barack Obama is more likely to be “ready on Day One” to lead us in a new direction. Because of his experience.
Sure, Clinton has more “experience” of a sort. For one thing, she has 14 more years on earth. How much of this experience is directly applicable to the job of president is, at best, debatable.
We are frankly troubled by her assumption that her husband’s administration and accomplishments were her own. And if her equation holds, that the first spouse is an equal partner in the administration, then the reappearance of Bill Clinton in the White House is a prospect we have a hard time reconciling with the work that needs to be done.
THERE IS a way to match Clinton’s and Obama’s performances on a relatively equal playing field: their campaigns.
A candidate’s campaign may be the best indicator of how she or he will govern. If so, an Obama administration would be well-managed, inclusive and astonishingly broad-based. It would make good use of technology and communicate a message of unity and, yes, hope.
It would not be content with eking out slim victories by playing to the narrow interests of the swing voters of the moment while leaving the rest of the country as deeply divided as ever. Instead, an Obama administration would seek to expand the number of Americans who believe that they have a personal stake in our collective future – and that they have the power to change things.
It would motivate them to hold their representatives accountable for making it happen. That is, after all, the only way to get us out of Iraq, to address global warming, to make us energy-independent. It’s the only way to resist the forces arrayed against providing universal health care, rebuilding our infrastructure and returning our schools to world-class status. It’s the only way to give our children the means to compete with children in other parts of the world who are healthier, better-educated and have more opportunities than many of our own.
An Obama administration would be freer of the the corrupting influence of big-money donors and corporate interests. Obama has raised $240 million overall, with half coming in contributions of less than $200. People who contribute to political campaigns can feel they “own” a candidate and so Obama would owe allegiance to the wide swath of America that has financed his campaign.
Based on his experience in running a quarter-billion-dollar enterprise with thousands upon thousands of volunteers, we could expect an Obama administration to be well-managed and cost-effective, with the president choosing forward-thinking advisers committed to his program, demanding that they work as a team and pay attention to details.
He would be steady and calm, given neither to irrational exuberance or outbursts of anger. He would make mistakes, that’s for sure, but he could be expected to recognize them, adjust, and move forward.
He would adjust his views to reality rather than trying to adjust reality to his views.
Obama’s unprecedented appeal to younger voters is significant not only because it expands the electorate, which is vital. It’s also a validation of his promise as a president to be free of the baby-boomer/Vietnam/segregation-era hangups.
Younger people are more egalitarian, more accepting of diversity, and more comfortable with rapid change. They also are less confined by old resentments or regrets.
AND AN OBAMA administration would lower the tone of the rhetoric that separates us.
As New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has said, Obama is a once-in-a-lifetime candidate who has the skill and eloquence to help us raise our eyes and our aspirations beyond individual, personal concerns, beyond religion or region or race or gender, beyond our well-founded fears to a shared destiny.
Most candidates claim that they will change the way business is done in Washington. Barack Obama has made us believe that, yes, he can.

So, the DNC found a couple of 3rd tier democrats to throw under the bus for Obama. Remember: he’s their guy – at least for the left wing faction that seems to be hijacking the DNC.
One thing that may not be evident yet, but Republicans will be rethinking their congressional contests this fall. Democrats risk losing even ‘safe’ seats of Democrats that prematurely jumped on Obama’s bandwagon. Regardless of the outcome of the race for the nomination, I’m looking forward to getting rid of those local democrats that endorsed Obama.
It’s time for the DNC to replace the dollar signs reflected in their eyes(i.e., Obama’s successful yet ultimately ineffective fundraising) with the cold hard reality of once again becoming the minority party – and losing their 3rd straight presidential election.

Barack lost the debate. He wins the spin. Those of us who understand that will vote for McCain if Barack is nominated.
Sorry, Hillary, but unless you top the ticket, the Republicans get four more years. Dean is out of touch and out of time.

Linda,
What’s worse is that (like my white grandma=Wright) Obama threw a Senator from Oklahoma under the bus comparing him to William Ayres.

Spectacular!!Charlie and George you did a great job. Finally MSM asking questions that noone has had the courage to ask. Finally Obama scrutinized to be the way Hillary has been for her entire public life. Dems need to understand, and I am one that is going to vote for McCain if Obama gets the nomination, that they are about to be noinating a guy for Pres with slim credentials and a whole host of uknowns that will be taken to task by McCain. You did a brillian tjob asking questions that go to our possible nominee’s true judgement, including the company he keeps, and how he withers under the controvery..We need a fighter for sure, and it clearly is not him. Iran is threatening Israel directly and he wants to give carrots and sticks to Ahmadinejad. Thanks George and Charlie, at last!!!

He becomes more unsavory with each revelation and yes, folks do care about flag pins/hands over hearts/ a nut ball mentor called Wright/affiliations with Ayers/nasty comments about rural folks/ comments about ‘typical white people’ and oh yes, his lack of experience. He has actually sponsored 1, yes 1, bill in the senate – EEEGADS can you imagine having to pick between McCain/Romney OR Obama/Ayers?? Imozes,
The Daily News probably should have checked with the Boston Globe before they endorsed Obama. Obama lost Massachusetts.
and the Globe’s readership is declining.
When I spoke to the young man who called me last night from the Boston Globe trying to induce me to re-open my subsciption which I’d recently cancelled due to their huge bias, he told me that he’s been getting a lot of complaints from former subscribers who have lost interest in this “left-leaning” newspaper.

Years from now, will people look at those who associate with Cheney, Bush, et. al in the same way that they look at Obama and his loose at best association with the Weather Underground? Seems to me they have done more damage then this group ever has.

Obama never debates well! Why do you think it took him two months to agree to do it. Without a teleprompter, he”s clueless!

Posted by: Lisa | April 17, 2008, 11:05 am 11:05 am

Contradictions in last night’s debate made by Obama…
1. Saying he wouldn’t raise taxes on people making below $250K and then when pushed admitted that he may install a payroll tax that will target those about $97K (THIS TO ME IS THE BIGGEST STORY AND ONE THE REPUBLICANS WILL USE IF HE WERE TO GET THE NOMINATION)
2. Handwriting on the gun questionare that he said wasn’t his – but has been admitted to at one time was
3. Said he disowned Rev. Wright (although backtracked when he was questioned on that statement by George)
4. Said that we shouldn’t overly examine his words (but wait, don’t words matter?)
5. Wants positive politics, yet sends talking points to all media trying to insinuate that Clinton is dishonest.
6. When his back is against the wall, always tries to distract by taking a hit at Clinton or Mccain (isn’t this part of the “typical politics” he has called for an end to?)
But guess what? The press is covering the biggest contradiction as Hillary saying that Barrack could win against Mccain while telling superdelegates that it is unlikely. Pundits keep pushing this as another lie from Hillary. But the fact of the matter is he could win against Mccain if there aren’t any more skeletons in his closet or he doesn’t make any more missteps. But all in all that is highly unlikely that this will happen because what we know about Obama’s past and philosophy, aside from his campaign rhetoric, is less than his very limited resume. What we do know is that on the surface he has a lot of connections to questionable people and that if these questions are investigated further it could lead to a huge loss for the democrats if he were to win the nomination. I don’t think we can take that risk and I hope the superdelegates agree with me, even if the pundits don’t.

I thought this was the best debate and I loved the job that Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos did at the debate with their questions. I feel the Cable Stations should look at these two honest reporters and offer them jobs! (Especially the women reporters, e.g. Campbell Brown- she is so biased against Hillary- I don’t care about her preference- only the facts and bringing out the truth!) This country should have had these two men report to all of us each night! At least they get to the bottom of some of this smoke and mirror from Obama! He never answers a question, and I don’t think he understands all this tax stuff! He has had a free ride for too long and now that the truth is coming out..I guess we are all bitter to him! This is his new excuse when he can’t give a straight answer. We need a leader and that is Hillary Clinton and not someone who keeps making excuses about what he means to say. (Look at his voting record…”I meant to vote, my button didn’t work….I really meant, I made a mistake and hit the wrong button) Wake up America!
Please keep up the good work so we can know the truth about our candidates. Our country is on the line!
GOOOOOOOOO Hillary!!!
P.S. Help Florida and Michigan be counted. They did not choose the date to vote- their leadership should be punished. This is unconstitutional to disclude them. Last I looked we had 50 states. Oh yeah, since Richardson did not back who his voters chose no other superdelegates shoul either, remember he and Obama broke the rules of how Obama feels. No moaning later on!

Barbara Walters just kissed up to the brass on “The View” about last night, as expected.
It’s disturbing that Hillary Clinton said “Screw ‘Em” about southern white men when Bill Clinton was looking for advice on running his 1996 presidency. Or that Hillary worked for known communists in 1971.

No. He can’t win. However, she could not say that as all of you in the media would be on her so fast her head would be spinning. As an Independent who generally votes Democratic, I and many others under no circumstances will support Obama. It will McCain’s race to lose. After last night, I don’t know how anyone could vote for Obama. I’m just so surprised and disappointed in the American public that they are falling for his and the mass media’s pathetic ploys and lies. Shame on all of you.

I guess you missed a more significant endorsement this week for Hillary Clinton, where 100 (one hundred) mayors of small towns across Pennsylvania simultaneously endorsed Hillary Clinton. Seems like that might make a bit more of an impact than your references.

Posted by: Wonderme | April 17, 2008, 11:22 am 11:22 am

linton campaign officials deny the reports of three earwitnesses that Sen. Hillary Clinton uttered the words “screw ‘em” during an internal discussion about how and whether to reach out to white working class voters in 1995. Howard Wolfson, speaking on Morning Joe this morning, said: “It ain’t so. It ain’t so. We were asked about this yesterday. This is not something that occurred.” Again, three contemporaneous witnesses, some with solid pro-Clinton credentials, heard it and affirm the context of it. On a conference call this morning, Clinton spokesman Phil Singer told NBC’s Andrea Mitchell: “This quote that has gotten some attention late yesterday differs from the recollections of other people who were in the room. They don’t remember the comment being made and they don’t remember the tone or tenor that is being described. Some people are having one recollection and that’s contradicted by other people who were there.”

Hey dude…Obama always has cheap answers. I agree with the post below. People are starting to see who he really is — I think the drawn out battle between the two candidates is a blessing in disguise. We get to see WHO HE REALLY IS, even though it may be sound bites here and there. Remember now.. he is the media darling. I live in Pennsylvania… I am disgusted at his condecending “down to earth oratory” when speaking to the people of PA. He is streamlining his high handed speeches for the working class. He is a sorry excuse for a candidate running for the President of this beloved country. (He does not like the flag.. remember that too). Nor does his stuck up wife, for she is only proud of America now that her rotten husband is running for office. Please.. . Who does he think he is anyway? The people of Pennsylvania are going to BLOW HIM OFF THE MAP ON APRIL 22.

Was the intent of the ABC Debate to ridicule the intelligence of the American voters. The American people are not interested in whether Obama where’s a lapel pin? George and Charlie questioned Obama about Rev. Wright, as if Wright was going to be Obama’s Vice President or a cabinet member, Hillary misspoke, she exaggerated, politicians do, enough already, let us move on. The ABC debate left a VERY bitter taste in my mouth. It was pathetic, gossipy and demeaning.
I am a retiree, on the fence about both candidates, and was looking forward to a debate with a lot of substance, possibly getting more insight on issues and candidates. Social security, national security, our economy, our countries concerns. I have often had my cup of coffee while watching George Stepanopolis Sunday mornings, tune into the Charlie Gibson evening newscast….I am only one viewer, but these programs will definitely be one viewer less.

He wants to be president of our country. We deserve to know everything about him. And I believe who he associates with does matter to the security of our country.
Thanks Charlie and George. I know you will be sharply ridiculed by the Obama supporters. But you did the right thing.

To the person commenting on the “100 Mayor’s for Hillary.” It’s always impressive when anyone endorses anyone. But it’s also worth noting that there was nothing “simultaneous” about it–most of those mayor’s had already endorsed a while ago, only 19 of them showed up to the “event.” Also, as there are 2,567 municipalities in PA, to suggest it will have a big impact is a bit of a stretch.

Posted by: Joe | April 17, 2008, 11:35 am 11:35 am

We need a president who will immediately take care of the economy, our troops, education, illegals crossing our borders, among other important things.
Last week, Obama said he would “immediately” review potential crimes of the Bush administration. Do you feel better knowing that a President Obama is going to spend his time and energy going after his fellow Americans who have been protecting us from the Islamic terrorists who are intent on killing Americans? Terrorist Muslims killed Americans. Why shouldn’t we should torture these criminals, if necessary? Anything the government does is okay as long as my child is safe!
If Barack Hussein Obama feels that strongly, then he should be investigated for his involvement with Rezko, Ayers, Nadhmi Auchi, Wright, Sinclair, Farrakhan, the Black Panthers, Meeks, Malley, , Khalidi, McPeaks, anti-American Michelle Obama, siad or any of his other friends. Would only be right to find out BEFORE he was ever elected.
Hopefully, someday somebody will tell me something Obama has accomplished. He is a great orator but will be decimated in the Fall election cycle. He is either a Marxist or a guy who doesn’t really understand how Washington works. He has no real policy on anything but Healthcare. He is way too Liberal for the USA! Most of his good stances are duplicates of Hillary’s. And, worse than anything, his entire campaign has been run on lies!
Clinton or McCain! Vote for our Country — not for a Party.

ABC debate was great!!! For once we saw both candiates confronted with their real character problems. While platforms and positions are important, anyone can read them from the websites or just the candidates’ brochures and mailings. The questions presented last night go to the credibility and judgment of the candidates. Those are essential elements when choosing the President.
Both candidates were confronted; both were put on the spot. It was even handed and fair.
Kudoos to ABC and, of course, Jake!!
P.S. Obama’s performance was notable in that he is not good when put on the spot. That is exactly where he will be if he is the nominee. Also, he was dismissive of anything that was not directly tied to his platform, like Ayres, Wright, small town people. He doesn’t get it. Those things are important and will be the essence of the Republican attack machine.

Posted by: countallthevotes | April 17, 2008, 11:41 am 11:41 am

Bush flouted Constitutional law, allowed for torture, and acts more like an emperor than a United States President. Still, he managed a second term to continue his malfeasance; regardless a felon isn’t supposed to attain high public office [forgot the drunk driver arrest squelched by the elder Bush of CIA fame, and his questionable military service]? Now ABC continues helping Republicans by asking all the wrong questions of the Democratic candidates in last night’s debate. Doesn’t anyone care that biased reporting only hurts the Common Good? I guarantee ABC will be much kinder in any questioning of McCain, the hero who broke under torture; who can’t read a cue card, whose wife plagerizes recipes, and who is a rubber stamp of the Bush regime – but ah, he represents Truth, Justice, and the American Way…well, I grew up with Superman, and McCain ain’t no Superman. ABC News can report all they want on anything they want, but count me out as a viewer; I don’t watch politically rigged newscasts!

abc should be given credit for a sophomoric, intelectually empty, content less “tabloid debate” which lacked content for the first 45 minutes. This was the worst performance by Charlie & George ( which in a way translated to lousy performance by the contestants). I will not watch any more debates again – this is enough. may be next time you should have a program “dancing with the presidential contestants”

Posted by: ravi shankar | April 17, 2008, 11:43 am 11:43 am

Great job ABC! You have now joined the tabloid journalism club! The first hour covered nothing of substance to my family. The entire debate lacked any real substantive discussion of important issues; such as, health care, climate change, gas price increases, jobless rate increase. I was shocked to see a moderator that used to work for Clinton grilling Obama. No conflict of interest there. By the way, Stephanopolis never asked a substantive question of Obama at all, reverend Wright, the will airs stuff brought up Fox news, congrats. Now some will say this is fair, however, it is so obviously one sided, that is what will be discussed, not Obamas answers, which werent that bad. I am an undecided but to see Obama attacked over a flag pin, and Hillary chiming in, makes me think perhaps she isnt the choice for me. He didnt jump her, at all, until forced to defend himself, which anyone would do. By the way, he defended himself well, and showed that he can take a punch well, so I am closer to vote for him than her. So your lopsided attempt to replicate Fox networks fair and balanced approach helped me decide. I never watch ABC, and that charade of a debate reinforces that decision. Furthermore, when Obama probably wins, (mathematics folks) I doubt ABC will be getting any White House interviews.

Folks, it’s not only Obama supporters who sought this as a despicable debate, a low point in political journalism. Even FOX thinks it was. My o my, ABC… FOX writes:
Critics are panning ABC News for its performance at the Democratic presidential debate Wednesday night. Even moderator Charlie Gibson recognized that it wasn’t going well.
Many media critics gave ABC poor reviews, arguing that the debate focused not on policy, but on gaffes by both candidates that have made the news in the last few weeks. The debate was the last to be held before Pennsylvania voters go to the polls on Tuesday to determine who will get the majority of the 158 delegates from that state.
Among the worst offenses to media analysts and viewers was the number of commercial breaks taken, including one just minutes into the two-hour telecast, immediately after Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama made their opening statements.
Gibson later earned jeers for taking a break shortly before the end of the program. Boos could be heard, and Gibson threw up his hands in defeat.
“Oh,” he said with a nervous laugh to co-moderator George Stephanopoulos. “The crowd is turning on me, the crowd is turning on me.”

WASHINTOP POST WAS ACCURATE: In Pa. Debate, The Clear Loser Is ABC

Obama could not handle the pressure. The Puzzled look on his face, he kept getting, was worrisome.
I do not beleive he can take on McCain and the republican machine.
I do not think He can run this country.
He is weak, he evades and eludes and talks around most issues and Never gives details about his polices (when he is not flip-flopping on them)
He has lied on his friends and associates to many times. When the subject of them comes up he falls apart.
Remember they are the people who have backed him, paid his way to get here, They are the wind beneath his wings, he owes them dearly. He has sold them out and lied about them. He says he has denounced them, sperated himself from them, for how long? Shows extreme character flaw.
Worse is he will not and has not, put all his lies together with the stories and told the truth yet. Which shows his life over the past 20 years has been a lie and his life is a lie now.
Does he actually think he controls everyones minds or that the world is stupid?
Kudo’s to Hillary for standing in front of the world, admitting a mistake and having the Guts to Apologize. That took more courage and honor, than her opponent has every shown.
It was the best debate so far, answered many peoples questions, and let the voters see the candidates under fire.

Posted by: cindyct | April 17, 2008, 12:08 pm 12:08 pm

Wow – he is getting more and more arrogant. I get put off every time he acts as thought he already is the president, but this is another one of his moments that I just shake my head at…
In a speech to Jewish community leaders in Philadelphia, the Democratic presidential candidate, Obama said: “Let me make one last point about the comparison to McGovern and Dukakis, both excellent men, but I’m a pretty darn good politician. And I can give a pretty good speech and I can connect and inspire the American people in ways that I think will become apparent. I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t pretty good at mixing it up.”
Let’s see if the news decides this is worthy to investigate further.

NEW RASMUSSEN POLL -

DEMOCRATS, WAKE UP AND UNITE!!!

Posted by: mathman | April 17, 2008, 12:10 pm 12:10 pm

The questions were softballs really, but obama usually gets tee-ball questions.
Obama wants to give speeches where he controls what is said. he cannot handle being asked questions (remember 8 questions got him flustered) He constantly digs himself into a hole trying to spin and re-spin his remarks because he feels he is always right and everyone is simply not getting it.

jgaw….Ya her plan is to flip flopon the issues until she gets them right…she sounds like Kerry…..a few years ago

3 question attacking obama by the moderators (WRIGHT + WILLIW? + BITTER)
“ZERO” question attackig HIllary by moderaor
1 question attacking hillary by viewer (Sniper Fire)
1 question attacking Obama by viewer (flag pin..compare that to sniper fire)
And….who were the adience? just CHELSEA, Ed RENDALL, NUTTER….where did they hide the obama supporters?
GEORGE was scared CARVILLE WILL CALL HIM JUDAS otherwise….after all he was Bill’s CAMPAIGN ADVISOR and PRSS SEC.

The hosts,Charlie and George were very insulting to the Nation for their insignificant questions during the first 45 minutes of the program…Shame on you ABC.

“I’m a pretty darn good politician.”
Darn good at “post-partisan” preening, and at being placed in electoral positions by corporate white guys.

You can debate about who one or didn’t win last night…but the BIG question is who can beat McCain. Let’s hope we nominate the one who can

Posted by: cindyct | April 17, 2008, 12:13 pm 12:13 pm

cindyct:
Both candidates are quite capable of beating McCain, even with the baggage that either would bring to the General Election.
The key is to get behind that candidate, no matter how strongly we support our chosen candidate, and no matter how disappointed we are that the particular historical moment we supported will not come to fruition this election cycle.
Obama 2008 — Yes, WE CAN!!!

Great work ABC. Finally someone had the audacity to ask some genuine questions to the so called “can do no wrong Obama”. His connections to all these anti-american cults should be investigated. That is exactly what George and Charlie did. GREAT JOB.
American people deserves to know whether they are electing a member of the Black Panther community or Weather Underground.

Same in ABC..very prejudgeous.

I always admired Charles Gibson and chose to watch his national news show every evening. After last night’s embarrassing debacle, I’ll rethink that. Both he and Stephanapoulos sounded like gossip columnists, only interested in the superficial and incendiary. How could they sink so low? Did someone tell them to ask those ridiculous questions? The only one who kept his dignity was Obama.

Posted by: MizLiz | April 17, 2008, 12:25 pm 12:25 pm

I AGREE WITH CINDY:
I am so thankful ABC had the courage to ask the tough questions of Obama.
He wants to be president of our country. We deserve to know everything about him. And I believe who he associates with does matter to the security of our country.
Thanks Charlie and George. I know you will be sharply ridiculed by the Obama supporters. But you did the right thing.

Posted by: Skerry | April 17, 2008, 12:27 pm 12:27 pm

When the Media decide to focus on tabloid issues, the American people lose. We are facing multitude of problems and challenges at home and losing our credibility abroad. We need ethical journalism.
The let down of the public by the media at last night’s debate is obvious by the discussions on this blog. The American citizens deserve better.
The next day’s discussion is about the trivial issues than discussing the real policies and platforms that matters most to the American people.
The media suppose to inform and direct the general public to focus on real political issues and problems facing our country at home and abroad. Instead the public were distracted and deceived. I am very disappointed that Charlie Gibson accepted this role to help Hillary Clinton demean Barack Obama’s character. Barack has integrity and believes in uniting the party, building the coalition, and move our country beyond Hillary Clinton’s tricks and lies.

THANK YOU ABC FOR THE GOOD WORK!!!

Posted by: petra | April 17, 2008, 12:32 pm 12:32 pm

obama has the msm, the dnc, the print media all pulling for him.
and all of the media job is to try and help the dnc, bring hillary clinton down.
they cannot do it on hoping she will slip up on the issues-she will not-she knows what the issues are and how to solve them-they cannot get her on that.
so the other way they try to bring her down is to sway things obamas way.
he will not make a good president we are just getting the dem. party left wing version on the rep. geo. bush.
if you want to know the story behind all of these newspapers endorsing obama
go to 100 top newspapers in the usa
it will list every newspaper, where they are located and who owns them
now after you find out who owns them
even if the newspaper has not endorsed anyone-start to map it. you will see
just how many of the 100 are in the pocket for obama. and it is not necessarily because the editorial boards disagree with sen. clinton-it is because the own(s) are in the pocket for obama.
obama is not the new style of politician
he has become the best candidate money can buy.
I might-just might have had a little respect for obama if he being a fresh face on the scene had new fresh faces working for him-and they really went against the washington scene and got themselves this far. but what obama is the front man for old blood (and loser blood-I might add)axelrod, dean, kerry, bradley, dashle, richardson, and co. these people are just about as old established washington as they get.
they are all “sour grape’ contemporaries of the clintons-the clintons are more moderate dems. and this kerry, dean, left wing crew have been trying to hijack the dem party for a long time-
obama will not bring real progressive change to this country. what we will get is a rehash of the late sixties and seventies. except this time it will be worst. wait and see-obama and co. will not be able to bring the troops home.
4k dead now-after the left-wing of the dem party gets in-can you say “another vietnam all over again-boy we didn’t see that coming”
and you can keep going over the hillary bosnia thing if you want to.
but answer me this, obama refered to his association to these radical people as flimsy-ayers-(william ayers gave 200dollars to obamas campaign)wright, etc.
but we should ask ourselves why does he have all of these ties to these radical
patriotically challenged people?
if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it’s a duck-and ducks of a feather-quack together.
obama espouses some of the very views of these people he associates with.
(no matter what he tell us now that he wants to be potus) and axelrod, kerry and bradley would be supporters of some of these views also.
and don’t get me started on the black people-hillary was winning the black support-as she should have-and the obama people knew they had to change that somehow-SO IT WAS OBAMAS CAMP THAT INTRO THE RACE CARD-NOT THE CLINTONS
OBAMA HAD TO BRING UP RACE IN SOMEWAY TO CUT INTO THE CLINTON SUPPORT.
OBAMA BROUGHT UP THE RACE THING-NOT THE CLINTONS
and if he gets to be president-he will repay the black people with just what he thinks they should have-a chance to go and fight in his new vietnam-and if you make it back-you can go to college-head trauma-and all.
wake up people-obama is not the one.

This was topflight journalism at its worst. This was ABC’s old, flimsy history with threadbare sizzle packaged as news.
It was a tabloid debate with tabloid questions. Matt Drudge come to life on a respectable stage. From what I subsequently discovered, they actually, eventually got around to real issues — after over an hour. But watching it for a mere 45 minutes made me feel almost seedy. I wanted to shower to get the smarm off. I love news, I admire professional journalists, I cherish the Mainstream Media, even when they flounder, because it is the core of democracy. But this was embarrassing. This was pathetic. This was just a cheesy press conference with cheesy questions.
Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos should be ashamed. I’m sure they have all of their reasons wrapped nicely with a bow, explaining why they asked what they asked and why it was proper and good and noble. Sorry, it wasn’t. They put this on in prime time across the nation, and turned it into a slimy, Fox Network reality show. A cross between Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire? and Temptation Island. Something like, So, You Want to Be President?!
This was a disservice to America.

Posted by: elisberg | April 17, 2008, 12:33 pm 12:33 pm

“He wants to be president of our country. We deserve to know everything about him. And I believe who he associates with does matter to the security of our country.”
While I agree that who they work with matters, I do beleive there should be a limit to it. How far removed does someone need to be to not be considered indellibly linked to a candidates ideology?
We want someone who can unite us and get things done, right? Well, that means they’ll have to be willing to talk to or even work with people who have a different point of view. That’s been a theme of a lot of Obama’s past relationships.
Every time Clinton points out something like this, it only highlights how isolated and protectionist her administration will be, and how inclusive and progressive Obama’s will be.
For the record, I beleive this cuts both ways. I don’t think its any more relevant that Bill pardoned the 2 Weathermen.

What happened to the issues guys? Pins? Church leaders? Sniper fire? George, I bought your book and used to admire you. The more you soft shoe around the conservatives on your show, and the tone of this debate makes me wish I never had. I actually wanted to see a real intelligent debate, instead, I got Rupert Murdoch style tabloid questions that focus on sensationalism. ABC News who once held some prestige, has sullied the reputation of solid journalists like Peter Jennings. Shame, shame. Our country needed to know what they will do about our economy, the war and health care, not gaffes and redundant responses to gaffes!

Hillary had a 20+ lead in PA, remember?
Today’s new Zogby poll in Pennsylvania finds Sen. Hillary Clinton barely edging Sen. Barack Obama, 45% to 44% with 12% undecided.
Key findings: “Clinton leads by a wide margin in western Pennsylvania, including Pittsburgh, while Obama leads by a large percentage in eastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia. In the central part of the state, including the state capital of Harrisburg, Clinton leads by eight points.”

Shame on you ABC so called news (what a joke)! Shame on you! Why in the first place would you have a former employee of the Clintons “moderating” this lynching? Shame on you! The complete inability to ask anything midly significant or to even attempt to seem balance for a second!!!! What a disgrace you are! And, the cheapest misery, not happy enough with owning a lynching and being in the clintons payroll, there goes this sorry disgrace taking questions from Sean Hannity. Gives me nausea. I am not exaggerating. Gives me nausea. I did not think that anybody other than dictators and genocides gave me nausea. You do. Filthy disgraces. Thanks God we are a democracy. Your sorry careers will see the effect of this ignomity. Shame on you.

The first 50 minutes of the so-called debate were a sad disappointment and not what I have come to expect from a major network with decades of news experience. There are so many issues worth exploring…and that voters care about..but the former Clinton aide & Charlie Gibson chose to descend to the level of the lowest supermarket tabloid lackeys. Shame on you…you know better and you can certainly do better.

Obama’s campaign has been publicly pushing a flirtation with Jimmy Carter. This is the same Jimmy Carter that just met with Hamas. I had a lot of respect for Carter up until this very moment, he has completely disappointed me. I’m sure Obama’s campaign will still welcome his endorsement, though.

What a couple of ill-informed, bad-tempered buffoons the two interviewers are. Stupid, irrelevent questions. Attack questions for Obama, carefully selected fawning questions for Hillary.
A FLAG PIN??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
And the debate was sponsored by an organization with Bill and Hillary on its board.

ABC did a FANTASTIC JOB last night !
Everyone is talking now —-what everyone wants to know more about…..
Obama looked as if he wanted to kick Hillary’s a$$….. and I loved the way Hillary was looking back at him like— what?… what did I say that got you upset?….
This woman can hold her own, not physically but MENTALLY she can hold her opponent down,
Being a President, you have to be able to keep your cool, and put on your best poker face when you meet with all the world leaders….. meeting with China etc etc— you can’t look weak and guilty— you have to look like you OWN IT and she came across as someone I can stand behind…….
We are one of the most powerful countries in the world, we cannot afford to lose it to a man who gets upset and flustered WORDS….!!

Obama supporters Open your eyes already, the man is a sharlinton , a sham, a oil snakes salesman.
He babbled on the economy questions , he tried skipping questions about his judgement
As far as the one post about Hilaries connections not being able to fill this page, Obama’s coonections to terrorists could not fill the internet,
He donates money to a Islamic front Group called CAIR, and to his racist mentor, and then a small amount to the NAACP.
So who is he more for the terrorists or the Blacks??

Obama was the one at the parties with AYERS and REZKO and PLEASE folks do not forget AUCHI.
20 Years, Most Sundays past he was getting charged up with Rev. Wright’s words of wisdom…. Rev.Wright’s golden boy, and now he is getting asked questions of his Judgements…..
Don’t ever expect a straight answer from this guy

fontapa – Interesting but there is a difference between Bills pardon and Obama stratigizing with the Weather underground founders, the one big one is Bill is not running, and since you Obama followers think associations should not matter then Hilary can not be blamed for that!
The screaming by Obama supporters is sad, about these so called tough questions that Obama could not answer!
Do you know Obama has never had a real campaign – His run for State senate he fought his Democrat opponents in court to get them off the ballot, he won the federal senate because no one ran against him that mattered, the person who did pulled out, and then they brought in an out of stater to run.

why no questions about rezko and the shady house deal ??
why no questions on aluchi the iraqi billionaire who obama partied with but claims not to know ??
why no questions on obamas wife calling american a mean country and saying she was not proud of her country

The debate pretty much confirms the fact that news coverage of 21st century politics in America is primarily about entertainment. If a candidate stuck to policy he or she would never get a mention in the news media, unless the candidate was the target of the other candidate’s attacks.

Hey Spock. You’re as wrong as Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who had to eat crow today on “The View” after she said Obama had never been to Iraq. He has. In 2006
But back to you.
“Do you know Obama has never had a real campaign” You say…
The Weather Underground False Debate
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/joseph-a-palermo/the-weather-underground-f_b_97144.html
“Guilt By Association. For George Stephanopoulos to bring up Ayers and not talk about the social context of the early 1970s that also brought us the Black Panther Party and other groups is to misconstrue the point of the question.
It’s also interesting that a more important and radical organization of the early 1970s, the Black Panther Party, featured Chicago Congressman Bobby Rush as its titular head at the time when the legendary Fred Hampton was the inspirational leader. The irony here is that a former leader of the Black Panther Party, Congressman Rush, badly defeated Obama in the 2000 Democratic congressional primary. “Taking on Bobby Rush among black voters is like running into a buzz saw,” said Ron Lester, a pollster who worked for Obama during the campaign. “This guy was incredibly popular. Not only that, his support ran deep — to the extent that a lot of people who liked Barack still wouldn’t support him because they were committed to Bobby. He had built up this reserve of goodwill over 25 years in that community.” Obama learned an enormous amount from losing big to Bobby Rush.”

“Obama does not know what a capital gains tax is. He started babbling about the INCOME of hedgefund managers.” Oh, really?
Actually, Edgar Cayce, it would be nice if Charlie Gibson had been smarter about his question and less self absorbed about paying his fair share. Sorry, Charlie: You’re Wrong on the Cap Gains Tax examines how Gibson – YET AGAIN – asked a poor question.
“Joint Committee on Taxation and Treasury both score raising capital gains taxes as raising revenues. There is some behavioral response but much of that is timing and doesn’t affect the medium-to-long term revenue loss.
Note that the experience after the 1997 cut and the 2003 cut is not a meaningful way to assess the impact of capital gains tax cuts on revenues because so many things were happening simultaneously. The JCT score of the capital gains cut in 1997 was a few billion dollars annually. The 2003 cut was something like $5 billion annually. But capital gains revenues can go up or down by tens of billions annually. So it is hard to look at the noisy data and infer ex post the revenue impact of these changes.
Or, to put it more simply, Gibson’s logic was flawed.”

The debate last night was insulting to the intelligence of the American voter. I’m really tired of elites, both media and politicians, thinking that the electorate is so stupid that in a time of war and recession, we care about lapel pins.

YES, REALLY.
Obama’s buddy Harry Reid killed a bill that would create a tax on billionaire Hedge Fund Managers who currently use tax dodges.
The question was about ordinary capital gains that all American pay regardless of income. It had nothing to do with hedge funds.

Last nights debate was a complete joke. Though unlike most other people, I don’t blame the moderators. The people in the production office, the writers, those at the top were dictating the drama. I have watched all of the past 20 plus dem debates, and none were such a mockery of this type of forum. All of the questions were aimed at getting the candidates to pull the type of personal punches that make little difference to our country and serve only to turn everyone off to the voting process. SHAME ON ABC!

Even Republicans were disgusted! Even they start endorsing Obama… LOL. CCN reports:
“Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has won an endorsement from Republican and former Nixon Watergate figure William D. Ruckelshaus.
Ruckelshaus was serving as deputy attorney general in 1973 when he made history as part of the infamous Saturday Night Massacre. He and his boss, Attorney General Elliot Richardson, were fired after they refused Nixon’s order to dismiss the independent counsel investigating the Watergate break-ins.
The former Nixon FBI director and secretary of the Environmental Protection Agency hopes to help Obama defeat Democratic rival Sen. Hillary Clinton in the May 6 primary in Ruckelshaus’ homestate of Indiana. The state has been a longtime Republican stronghold in presidential politics.
“Senator Obama’s ability to attract not only Democrats, but also Republicans and Independents, makes him uniquely qualified to build the broad coalitions needed to address our nation’s challenges,” said Ruckelshaus in a statement.”

Flag Pins? Really? Hillary doesn’t wear one. I’ve seen lots of pics where McCain isn’t wearing one either. How stupid! You could cover yourself in flag pins and we’d still be losing our homes, jobs, paying too much for gas and sacrificing our fine troops in Iraq.

Charlie and his partner did a very poor job for ABC with the tired questions they asked.
Thse questions had already been asked by the other networks, thus making ABC look like a third rate network. They made it sound like a slow newsday!
They avoided useful and important questions such as: “Ackowledging the whole citienship is bothered by the extreme high prices for prescription drugs, “What whoud you do to level this playing field between the Drug Corps and the consumers.?”

On the sustantive issues, I don’t think there is much difference between the two candidates so on that point I’d have to say it was a tie. I think that the rehashing of old news by Hillary and ABC however pushed Obama across the finish line by a nose therefore, Obama won the debate last night.

Obama’s associations with Wright, Ayers, Sinclair, Farrakhan, the Black Panthers, Rezko, Meeks, Malley, Auchi, Khalidi, McPeaks, Michelle Obama should be FULLY VETTED!
Obama said he was only a small boy when Ayers bombed the U.S. What he didn’t say was, later, in the 1990’s, when he was a man, he served on a board with Mr. Ayers, the Woods Foundation, which was a paid, “underline PAID” directorship position. They worked together, attended fundraisers together, Ayers held fundraisers and was a contributor to Obama’s Chicago’s campaign, plus they visited each other quite often. Enough said. This relationship deserves being vetted. What’s their fear?

OBAMA HAS FAKE ENDORSEMENTS !!!!
In The Huffington Post, 04/16/08, Obama received an endorsement from the AHSA, American Hunters and Sportsmen Assoc. It said “eat your heart out Hillary.”
The endorsement is to mislead people in to thinking Obama is actually suppotive of Guns.
Upon further checking ..
“AHSA is actually the latest in a long line of anti-gun groups camouflaging
themselves as pro-hunting and pro-conservation in order to split our community.
Before you give AHSA any creed ” beware the wolf in sheep”s clothing, ”
OBAMA ACTUALLY HAS A PLAN TO DISARM AMERICA

AGAIN — both Obama and his wife are claiming amnesia about the 2004 event….kind of like Obama does not remember his real estate transaction with Rezko in 2005.
This is just beginning — not over by a long shot. Obama was definitely enriched by his association with Rezko.
Even though Obama is claiming all his IL Senate records have disappeared…..no one really believes it and it’s not over!

It’s obvious the Obama supporters have a problem with their candidate being asked hard questions. What do you think is going to happen IF he gets the nomination? It is better he is asked now.

With all these people Obama has friends with, America must beware the wolf in sheep”s clothing, “

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, whose pedigree is on the other side of their generation’s cultural divide, defends Bill Ayers in a statement to the Tribune:
There are a lot of reasons that Americans are angry about Washington politics. And one more example is the way Senator Obama’s opponents are playing guilt-by-association, tarring him because he happens to know Bill Ayers.
I also know Bill Ayers. He worked with me in shaping our now nationally-renowned school reform program. He is a nationally-recognized distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois/Chicago and a valued member of the Chicago community.
I don’t condone what he did 40 years ago but I remember that period well. It was a difficult time, but those days are long over. I believe we have too many challenges in Chicago and our country to keep re-fighting 40 year old battles.

This November, I am voting for the DEMOCRAT no matter what.
You guys are arguing over Republican talking points. Who cares!

“This November, I am voting for the DEMOCRAT no matter what.”
Sue, now THAT’s the attitude!
The rest is senseless bickering.
Let’s make sure we won’t have another Republican tearing this country down!

Thanks to ABC for getting the candidates to admit that their chronic misstatements or misplaced allegiances were not just accidents, but deliberate actions. It was a revelation to hear the parsing of words in attempts to make blatant, repeated lying seem like an innocent impulse, and to hear the making of plans to punish people for earning money and working hard as a way to help the “poor”. Both candidates came off in a terrible light. Had Hillary not had to confess her deliberate lying, she would have been the winner. But unfortunately, confabulation and exaggeration has done her in. These things are character issues which, in turn, makes them political issues of great importance to voters. It isn’t race or gender, it is an issue of their awareness of right or wrong. And that is how the voters must decide who will be the next president. Who, of these candidates, will protect EVERY citizen from usurious taxes, pork barrel budget bloat, and terrorism?

FINALLY, Senator Obama was made to speak unscripted about Reverend Wright, etc. I wish they had also asked what he meant when he recently spoke about the “typical” white person. Let’s be honest, all we know about Sen. Obama is he is an amazing orator. Absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing speeches. I personally need to know more about who may become our next President, when this is such a critical time for our country. Democrat, Republican, Independent……..it should not matter to any of us right now. We will never completely agree on everything with ANY of the candidates; but, we defintely need to know character.

Focus on this people:
Promising to raise taxes has spelled disaster for presidential candidates in the past. A good example was Michael Dukakis (one of the Ted Kennedy, John Kerry crowd).
Barack Obama has promised to roll back tax cuts (a tax increase) and is proposing programs that cannot be funded by anything else but more taxes for everyone. Indeed, Obama has stated that taxes will have to be raised in many areas just to fund his proposals, let alone balancing the budget or paying down the deficit.
With the economy failing badly, can anyone in America afford more taxes?
Barack Obama, change we all should fear.

ABC News Hacks: Now you’re evaluating your own Hack Job? What’s the point? Fold up the tent. Send Stephanopolous and Gibson out on the campaign trail with Hillary and maybe they too will fade into oblivion. Jake, you still got a job? Is ABC even legitimate after that disaster? Get a job at Fox News, it’ll be a step up out of the sewer you’re currently working at…and you have the guts to question the Obama girl interviewing someone? Is that a joke? You’re gonna be put out after Stephanopolous (how is that guy even invited to Bilderberg?) and Gibson (another Clinton shill) “moderated” that fiasco you’re calling a debate. Let me tell you something, Jake…if a “moderator” is booed right after a debate and spends time defending his actions (like Stephanopolous did), it’s a clear sign the “debate” was a total disaster. But, back to the Obama girl. You really did seemed annoyed by her being in the “Spin Room”. It’s funny…YOU…cracking on her!!! You’re a clown.

pp: Do folks realize McCain was born in South America?

Posted by: H. Aslan Aslani-Far | April 18, 2008, 5:12 am 5:12 am

asian…
I am quite aware that McCain was born in Panama, which was an American territory at the time, and both his parents were Americans. He does NOT have dual citizenship with Panama. Would seem there would be a conflict of interest with dual citizenship and who you pledge you allegiance to. This is the presidency and not an “average” citizen. The supreme court discourages citizens from maintaining other citizenships. Might follow that a presidential candidate may want to only pledge alligiance to one country.

Barack is an “amazing orator?” “mesmerizing?”
This Barack must be different from the one I see stumbling over his words, stuttering, with long awkward pauses and “uh….uh…..uh….”
I just don’t understand some peoples’ crush on him. His answers, when he does manage to eventually get something out that has to do with the question, PALE in comparison to Hillary’s. I’m thinking about the question about attacks on Israel. Hillary gave an answer that was absolutely spot on and full of information. Barack mumbled something about “taking appropriate action” Give me a break.
HILLARY 2008
