Candidates Remember King, Clinton Chokes Up
ABC News’ Eloise Harper and Sunlen Miller Report: Senator Hillary Clinton’s voice quivered as she recounted her recollection of the day Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. On the 40th anniversary of King’s death, Clinton spoke at Mason Temple Church of God in Christ in Memphis TN. She addressed the crowd in the annex of the church located behind a larger church where King spoke before dying the following day.
Watch the VIDEO HERE.
“Like many of you here who are of a certain age. I will never forget where I was when Dr. King was killed. I was a junior in college and I remember hearing about it and was feeling such. I walked into my dorm room and took my book bag and I hurled it across the room. It felt like everything had been shattered. Like we would never be able to put the pieces together again you know I joined the protest march in Boston It worked to convince my college to recruit more students of color wore a but it felt like it wasn’t enough,” said Clinton.
Clinton spoke about King’s drive and perseverance even when the media and everyone else counted him out and how he never gave up.
“He never gave up and neither should you. His faith in America animated and sustained his journey. Like with any faith there were dark moments when one doubts. When one is on the brink of giving up and throwing in the towel. He would always come back from those dark places, and so must we. The tenacity of Dr Kings faith is all the more extraordinary when you think of the ways it was tested. All the critics in the media attacking his work, by the death threats the bombings the beatings the stabbings the murder. The grinding heard work day after day of just getting up and moving on.”
Senator Barack Obama also honored King on today’s anniversary, in a speech before a Fort Wayne, Indiana crowd. At the top of his prepared remarks solely devoted to the anniversary, the Illinois senator said he had spoken to the King family this morning and then prompted the crowd to observe a moment of silence.
Obama called King an extraordinary American whose assassination, “left a wound on the soul of our nation that has yet to fully heal.”
Obama said the dream that King began has not been completed, and it is all Americans task to now help finish.
He referenced his own speech on race in this context, “this is something I spoke about a few weeks ago in a speech I gave in Philadelphia. And what I said was that instead of having a politics that up to Dr. King’s call for unity, we’ve had a politics that’s used race to drive us apart, when all this does is feed the forces of division and distraction, and stops us from solving our problems. That is why the great need of this hour is much the same as it was when Dr. King delivered his sermon in Memphis.”
Obama said earlier that he chose to commemorate the day with campaign events in Indiana and North Dakota because he wanted to spread the message of Dr. King’s legacy to unfinished places. Indiana also has a place in today’s history, it was the place where Robert Kennedy was campaigning when news broke of King’s assassination. Obama was introduced at his town hall today by Mike Riley who served as Indiana chairman for Kennedy’s campaign and was with Kennedy when he spoke in Indianapolis after receiving notice of King’s death.

I’m glad Obama chose to be in Indiana and not clinging to the hip of Hillary, as the media would have posted them, as usual, can’t mention Barack without throwing Hillary in there, after all she might get slighted. I think Barack Obama will make history as one of the greatest presidents we’ve ever had.

This guy will do or say anything to become the first Black President. I used to be an Obama supporter but this jerk lost my vote with all of his inconsistencies. I don’t like any of the 3 candidates. What an awful choice we have. I guess I will wait until the general election to make up my mind but either I will skip my vote this year or bite down very hard on my tongue and vote for MCCain since I can not bring myself to vote for an empty suit.
His so called “race” speech. I think it should be called “Try to save my own A##! speech”

Obama begging to elect him so MLK’s dream can come true… What a liar.
See Jesse JAckson, Sharpton .. some of MLK’s close people. They are nothing but a disgrace to the Black community. They minted enough money to feed 10 generations.

Obama making a race speech. He constantly plays the race card. What a coward he is. I am not that big on Hillary but one thing I think most people have to say about her is she is fighter and stands up to people. Down with Obama!

It was a very thoughtful speech with great sentiment. He is always a good orator.
Along with his speech in Phillie.
Maya Angelo called his speech in Pa.
one that will be in the history books.
I also believe it will be, he done a fantastic job.

Posted by: An Opinion | April 4, 2008, 1:57 pm 1:57 pm
Obama!
1- I never heard my Pastor make such inflammatory comments while I was in the pews/ — in his race speech When I would hear inflammatory comments during his sermons etc. etc. You can’t have it both ways.
2. Rezko – he gave me 100,000.00 ooops day before the trial – it was 250,000.
3. I don’t believe in NAFTA! It hurst the country. When I become pres I will reform it. – Shhhh – hey Canada – this is only election rhetoric – dont worry about NAFTA- wink wink.
Obama is toast.

Again, speech.. speaker…He should run for speaker of house so he can speak his dream every day….
Again he showed his only experience, where he got well trained from his church how to speak about your dream and make you as his followers…..
He is unelectable is not because he is black… it is because he is no experience and accomplishments to earn such most honorable title…
Colin Power is much better than Obama in terms of experiences and leadership….Power would be true first black president if he would run…
America is not stupid…..He will be dumped either in Dems primary in the end or in G.E by REPs….

Lay it down, folks. Today we honor the Reverend Martin Luther King. Senator Obama has a right to speak to that legacy too.
Don’t we all?

Because Mayou Angelo says it’s a great speech and it is one for the history books. how the heck is she to tell us what is good. She writes poetry.
the only reason that Race speech was ever written and spoken – it was not because it was heartfelt – he was trying to save his campaign and the guilty white people bought it. I didn’t cause all this racism and the history of slavery. I am not going to vote for someone because this country wants to show the world – we are not racist. We are racist if that is the reason most people vote for him. Is is ashame that 90% of the black popluation is voting for Obama. What does that tell you.

I don’t think Hillary’s choking up was planned. The Clinton’s are a lot of things but no one can ever say that they are not true supporters of minorities and have always tried to help the black race. That is why Bill Clinton is referred to as the first Black president so LAUREN you should really read up on things before you make idiotic statements.

Do you think Obama is an honest man when he lied about his long time friend Rezko, his “uncle” pastor, and double-talking about NAFTA??
He is just the same politican as others, or worse because he tried to pretend he were clean…
So please give Americans the reasons why he is entitled to be US president with his little experiences and little accomplishments…

Hey CC4Obama -
funny you can remember 40 years ago. Let’s ask obama how much money Rezko dontated that he in return donated to charity – first is was 100,000 and later on it was 250,000.

In Hilary’s own word:
“I don’t think people should come to Ohio and tell the people of Ohio one thing and then have your campaign tell a foreign government something else behind closed doors,” Clinton said then. “That’s the kind of difference between talk and action and that I’ve been pointing out in this campaign.”
“I would ask you to look at that story, substitute my name for Senator Obama,” she also said. “If some of my advisers had been having private meetings with foreign governments and basically saying ignore what I’m saying because it’s only political rhetoric … I think it raises serious questions.”
Like in Obama’s case this was not just a meeting. Penn is actually lobbying for free trade.

was she talking about the late MLK or her self? its seems to me that she was talking about her campain and herself with this never gave up and all that. the fact is she could have done the things she said and she could have mis-spoke! OBAMA is a crook! He insults Martin King by likening himself to him. I would support Hillary 100%.
Personally, I think there’s a government conspiracy to get Obama elected, i think the media are apart of this too. The reasoning behind this is that the half wit government thinks that, with Obama’s Islamic connections, he will be able to make them see reason…bs!!!!! LOL but remember this, there is an element of truth in every joke. The only real joke would be on America if they vote for him and the only chance America has to get back on it’s feet is by electing HILLARY as PRESIDENT!!!

Donna…
Yes you are correct that Obama gave the speech on race to save his campaign…That doesn’t mean that he did not feel that way before the Rev Wright issue came out. I believe that him being mixed he has seen both sides of racism. This was the time for him to come out say how he felt. You are to concerned about why he gave the speech instead of listening to what the speech was about. Also since the artical is about MLK did you know that some of he speeches were considered controversial and unpatriotic just as Rev Wright.
Also Maya Angelo is not just a poet she has also written books, films, and plays. Lets not forget she is also a important figure in the civil rights movement. I would listen to her over you regarding a speech on race…..

The statement that Hillary “choked up” when she learned of the death of Dr. King makes me want to THROW UP. The truth is: she was so moved she went right out and became a “Goldwater Girl,” campaigning for the the Arizona senator who fought against the Civil Rights bill. Sorry, but whenever Hillary tells a “story” now, recalling some event of her past, I question if they are actual memories or mis-statements due to sleep deprivation or faulty long term memory. I just cannot take her “memory” or her “memory of her memories” seriously.
But, she does appear to be making good use of her angst at her sinking chances of becomming President.
Crocodile tears!

Hillary plays politics with the memory of MLK. Do you guys know that this woman is paying for an acting coach? It’s disclosed on her finanical records that she has to report. Eric – do your homework before saying Obama only has Reszko and Wright in his closet. Check out William Ayers, Khalidi, Farakhan, Larry Sinclair, Frank Davis and Emil Jones. Obama’s words and actions is totally different from the carefully crafted image that him and his camp is portraying. It is the MSM that is covering up for him. The American people deserves the right to know who the Real Barack Obama is before it is too late.

You Said
Barack is a big liar too, he is NOT without his faults. Neither is Hillary, but at least we know her and she doesn’t have a racist pastor spewing garbage in what should be a place for worshiping. So what if Bill cheated, what male politician doesn’t these days anyway? Doesn’t make it right, but it happens. Barack is a closet liar, those are the worst.
You’re right, Barack has his faults. And so does his pastor (who, for the record, can say anything he wants to). But don’t tell me Obama is a closet liar and Hilary is not. There’s no such thing as an “open liar” in politics, so maybe it’s just that Hilary lies more often so she gets caught. Either that or she’s much worse at lying.
you know, there’s a reason so many ex-Clinton backers have endorsed Obama. They actually do see a better president in him than Clinton.
Remember… when you vote for Clinton, you are voting for LOBBYISTS to run your country

now do you understand why Hillarys numbers are what they are ? Texas and all the others states. Her numbers would be lower than what they are if there was not the cross over. simple math if there was 20 for example that voted for her and 10 were true rep. that crossed over then she really only won 10.
In nov. that 20 really wouldnt be there only 10 would be.

I find it highly inappropriate for someone on a campaign trail showing up in Memphis on the 40th anniversary of MLK’s death. This is a day of remembrance for HIM and to celebrate HIS life and there should be no distractions from someone on a campaign trail, whether it is Clinton, Obama, or McCain.
Was she even invited by the community to speak?

I just watched the link to Sen. Clinton’s remarks. I was really touched and impressed.
Her remarks reminded me that she has supported African Americans & civil rights and human rights in this country for her entire adult life…40 years. I have been very hard on Clinton (still do not like her disingenuousness or shades of dishonesty). Still, in watching the video I feel I have misjudged her to an extent and that I have not been fair to her. I am an AA and until today I have been an avid supporter of Obama. However, when he chose to go to Indiana rather than Memphis and when I heard the rationale and read the “political” speech he gave I really now feel that I have to think twice. I thought I was voting for him more than just because he was Black like me. Therefore, after today I really must reassess and I urge all other supporters to reassess and make sure that you are not just so happy to have the first AA President that you pick the wrong person for not just the job but for your own self interest as a citizen in America. I want to be wrong. I have contributed money and argued with people fervently on this site against Hillary and for Barack, but after today I just do not know. Moreover, when I raised this issue on the Barack Obama blog I was attacked by his supporters and I started feeling like I was in a “Personality Cult” movement rather than a real movement like Dr. King led for Civil Rights and Human Rights. Remember, there was no position for himself that King either sought or received. In fact, his family lived in near poverty for most of the early childhood of his kids when his wife was left a widow.

Too darn bad – I am not just saying these things. You can check it out and be the judge. It is your prerogative to vote for who you wish will be the best candidate. Clinton might not be perfect but she is the best one we have out there.

Everywhere I look – the media is telling that Obama is beating Hillary in the polls. The media tries to tell us that no one cared about the Rev. Wright scandal – Rezko – plagerism. It feels like the media is trying to demoralize the Clinton followers by trying brainwash us that it is a lost cause. Yet, every newspaper article’s comments, on-line article comments all say the opposite is true: that people are disgusted with Obama. So, is this election for the people? Or, is this election being hijacked by the media?

Obama will never become the President of the United States. Most of the white people supporting him now are just setting him up for the big fall in Novemeber when they cast their votes for McCain. The media is intentionally blowing him up just to tear him down when he falls.

Isn’t it interesting that Hill finds an opportunity to get “choked up” before each big vote? Her grabs at opportunism make it very difficult to feel the sincerity of her tears.

I watch Hillary nearly bursted into tears when given an address in MLK memory.
This is another way of seeking black votes, Can she produce the video to show her emontional claim? or is this another sniper fire story.
God help HRC

Tell me this…..
How could you be up by 20+ points in a place that’s considered to be “Clinton Country” and check today and see it’s only 5 points and dropping.
Sounds bad to the average, critically thinking human being.
Wouldn’t it be a shocker to see Obama shut Hillary down in Pennsylvania? A place where she’s favored to win?
Hmmmm, that would be classic. Starting to look better as we get closer to 4/22

What a joke… Not only does she try to pull these crocodile tears every time her campaign gets desperate, but to do it just prior to releasing her tax returns is ridicules. (Talk about deflecting). And then to top it off she ends her “speech” with the same biblical quote from Amos that Barrack ended his speech with out in Indiana. it’s becoming apparent that her days are numbered, and it’s quite insulting that on this Historic day she could not even produce the smallest amount of sincerity. Good luck Hillary…

Clinton’s quivering voice is more sham sentiment from a professional prevaricator. Her credibility about anything that she feels cannot be substantiated is zero. Just what were her social leanings 40 years ago? There is NO WAY to verify just how she felt 40 years ago and she knows it, but I seriously doubt that the murder of Dr. King tore her up so much that she threw her bookbag across the room and felt that everything had been shattered. I wasn’t a junior in college, but I also remember the day and my main emotion was bewilderment about why someone wanted to kill a person like this who had never hurt anyone. Sadly, however, there are many who are willing to accept anything a known liar says if the liar embellishes them well enough to the listener’s liking.

Obama supporters, now that Clinton has released her tax returns, why hasn’t Obama released his for 2007???
Another issue I don’t see mentioned, is what has Obama done in his career for someone other than himself? The Clinton’s are always out there helping victims of aids, Katrina, poverty and you never hear anything that Obama does. The Clinton’s gave over 10 million to charity, the most Obama gave to charity was $220,000 to his racist church.
People are quick to criticize the Clintons, but they are the ones out there taking up the cause and helping the unfortunate or victims of disaster-no matter what race, income, age, etc. It is a shame that some many people are lost in the empty rhetoric of Obama to see he is only in this race for himself and will DO NOTHING to help anyone else other than his cronies. Some of you just can’t fathom the idea that Hillary Clinton, a politician for most of her life, may actually be a politician for the purpose of changing things for the better for everyone. Her tax returns were released today. I don’t think if I had that much money that I would be willing to go through the rigors of a campaign where people call me every name under the sun and the media blasts me at every turn. Apparently she is fighting to be our President for something more than money. There is one other candidate that doesn’t need the money. Why would anyone with millions want to do the hardest job in the world?

1st The Democratic Party is made up of males who will not vote for a female in a leadership position. Bottom line..Kerry, Kennedy, Dodd, Richardson, etc. would never vote for or want to take orders from a female! It’s a double standard world.
2nd The media has given Obama a free ride and have worked hard to paint the Clinton’s in a negative light. All of Obama’s stories are of fainting fans, while the media tries to turn all the Clinton stories into negative ones.
I do not vote based on race, sex or age. I vote on the best candidate to move our country forward—That candidate is Hillary!!! Obama is dividing the Democratic Party!!

You know, there is a perception out there that well-to-do liberal white men want to vote for Obama to assuage their guilt about racism in America. I think that rather than force a inexperienced president of dubious character upon the whole country, that these men try to assuage their guilt by trying to hire more black men at their own businesses. That is what would heal America. I have challenged my own husband to do just that!

It was in Indianapolis on this very day 40 years ago that Robert Kennedy — campaigning for the Democratic nomination himself — was dealt the task of having to inform a stunned crowd that Dr. King was gone.
In the midst of the grief, Kennedy begged for calm, as Dr. King surely would have himself. And as cities across the nation were beset with violence in the wake of the King assassination, Indianapolis remained quiet.
It was that moment that Obama commemorated today. Not the shot that rang out, but how some responded in the wake of it. There will be talk of whether his choice was appropriate — whether the first African American to have a serious shot at the White House should have visited the spot where a generation was changed.
But in the end, the unfinished business of Dr. King still reaches into every corner and every balcony in the country. What that night in Indiana 40 years ago showed, is that it’s sentiment that counts, not geography.

You know there are two kinds of people in this world, talkers and doers. I guess we know who’s who in this run for the nomination. Hill and Bill have been out there “doing” for the poor, the needy and minorities their entire lives. All Obama does is take credit for what others have done. I would put no credence on anything he supposedly did, especially in the IL senate where it has been repeatedly reported that he was assigned to many bills mostly completed by others, just so a U.S. senator could be “created” to get “pork” for his district. This man’s entire campaign is based on a carefully constructed fabrication of experience. Don’t anyone talk about Hillary “lying” when you have this guy’s record of compulsive lying out there.

I also heard Hilary’s remark about President Johnson and MLK and I did not hear anything that trivialized MLK’s accomplishments. First, his accomplishments were so huge that they simply can’t be trivialized. In my list of heroes, he’s way up there. Prez Johnson–though useful, pretty much forgotten. I know AA’s are very sensitive on subjects relating to race but sometimes you have to really think about a speaker’s true intent and H. Clinton would NEVER put down MLK. Shelgirl, I think you are really wise to question whether this black candidate is the right one to pin all your hopes and dreams on. If he isn’t then things will only get worse for people of color, not better. The country is definitely ready for an AA president but that first one needs to be somebody of the caliber more like MLK. If only…..

First of all, i don’t believe Hillary’s account of that day, that she went to her dorm and threw her bag across the room, those tears were crocodile tears meant to appeal to black votes and win some sympathy. i have always said this lady and the husband have become so rich and powerful they think, they have every right to the presidency and will destroy the party if they can’t get their way. i believe Mccain was sincere when he said sorry against the holiday bill. And am very glad Obama stayed away. if the former first lady will repeat lying at every opportunity to win the democratic normination ie flying to sniper filled and bullet dodging trip to war torn cosovo which we have found to be untrue, then this type of manupulating and calculating politicians must be told in a clear and plain terms enough is enough.

It is troubling to think of Obama as taking the stand of a “Uniter” and not being side by side with the other candidate on such a special honorable event.

The Clintons never denigrated Martin Luther King, they praised him and gave him all the credit for his struggle along with thousands more in the struggle. All Hillary tried to do, in the context of electing a President in this campaign was to say how important a Presidential leader is. President Johnson got the legislation passed; so, it did take a President to help their struggle come to fruition.
Then what happened? As has been the case when she said it, someone looked for a wedge to ignite the African-American base, saying she said that King did not deserve the credit for the civil rights struggle. What a joke! Do any of you look at yourselves for the responsibility of this fallacy. I’ll admit that the biased media drummed it up, but, it is a falsehood.

Jerry, if you researched Hillary’s youth, you would believe her account of the day. She always was a mover and shaker for change, even in college. She has stood up for AA’s since high school. She will NEVER stop supporting them and believing in them and I know that she forgives them abandoning her because it is in her nature.

Posted by: lulu | April 4, 2008, 9:58 pm 9:58 pm
Judy:
You’re right: Hillary has always been a “mover and shaker.” Her first foray into politics was as a “Goldwater Girl” campaigning for Barry Goldwater. Of course, Goldwater was against the Civil Rights Act at the time.
Hillary grew up in an all-white suburb, went to an all-white school and attended an all-white church. She belonged to a wealthy Republican family. That does not make her a bad person, but neither is that the kind of background that ordinarily produces an person empathetic to the problems of poor blacks.
That is why, I believe, she looks so phony when she tries and lies about, “I’m just one of you,” not with tens of millions – I don’t think soj.
Posted by: Randle Bate | April 4, 2008, 10:00 pm 10:00 pm

Some of you Obama people need to finish high school. If you did, you might learn that Goldwater ran as the Republican nominee for president in the 1964 election against LBJ (and was whipped). You might also learn that MLK was assassinated in 1967 (3 years later, do the math). You might also learn that the Democratic candidate for president in 1968 was Hubert Humphrey, who was defeated by none other than Richard Nixon. A simple web search will tell you that HRC was born in 1947. All of that drivel about Clinton being 14 when MLK was assassinated and then becoming a Goldwater girl afterwards… uneducated, unfounded (dare I say it) lies. I suspect you have researched your chosen candidate as well as everything else you have posted.

On this day when presidential candidates McCain and Clinton came together in unity to honor MLK,they put aside campaigns and political differences for the sake of the goof cause and the message that this day is a symbol to overcome differences.
Then the question arises “Where was Obama” ,it should have been a day for all 3 candidates to stand side by side.
Why is Obama the man who likes to be known as the ” Uniter” not present with the other candidates on such a day ?

i have to say… for obama to come out on a day like today and speak about dr. martin luther king and then compare one of the most important people in our history to himself that to me is a disgrace… this man is a true fake… after all that we know about him or the things we dont, because i can tell you from my point of view, i still dont know this man…. he is very shady… but if sen. clinton came out today and spoke about dr. martin luther king and then her campaign, she wouldve been crucified by all you obama supporters and this bs media….

Yes, Randle, Hillary went to an all white church and brought the first African Americans ever to visit her church when she was young. Her youth minister challenged the young people to stand up for change and Hillary took it to heart, brought the AA visitors and the rest is history. She has been fighting for change ever since. I made it my business to research both candidates for the democratic party and Hillary is the real deal.

I have seen several of our Presidents get teary eyed and male politicians “choke up” throughout my life and yet I have never once seen an article titled “Reagan gets teary eyed”
or “Bush Sr gets choked up”. I think we need an honest dialogue about sexism in this Country also while we’re at it.

All candidates were invited to today’s ceremonies. Only Clinton and Mccain were respectful enough to travel to Memphis to take part in the remembrance. Barack Obama chose to stay on the campaign trail and then give a speech comparing himself to MLK. The arrogance of this man stuns me. Martin Luther King would never have taken money from a slumlord like Tony Rezko, whose lower income tenants were living without heat in the winter and living in dilapidated buildings, many of which are now boarded up. MLK had more courage and more integrity in his little finger than Barack Obama has in his entire body.

I get “choked up” when I think of 1968 in general and the assassinations of MLK and Bobby Kennedy in particular. I was in middle school….America lost a lot of heros that year.
Perhaps as a middle aged white woman who saw those heros pass I can relate to Hillary.
Actually there were a lot of middle aged white people like the Clinton’s that helped to make Dr Kings dream a little more obtainable.
The fact that these people and Ferrarro have been branded racists as a political ploy is kind of shameful.
Just like being overly angry at the Clinton’s income. Not only are they giving almost 10% of their income to charity, but Bill’s foundation is rebuilding New Orleans and funding AIDS research to the tune of billions.
They may have their failings but they truly work and have always worked to change America.
You may like them or not but understand that more than most they do give back to humanity and make a difference in people’s lives.

Let’s remind ourselves that Clinton and her surrogates are going all over the country telling people that Bi-racial candidate Obama can’t be elected because of the of his former Black minister’s, remarks in his Black church, i.e. A Black candidate can’t win — before we get to sucked in by Clinton’s overly rehearsed MLK tear-jerker.

What I wonder is this – how can Hillary’s supporters be lied to in their faces and KNOW that she’s caught red handed and STILL back her???? I don’t get that.
I really want to know the answer to to that. And don’t give me “Barack is this and Barack is that….” This question is NOT about Barack…. it is about Clinton and her lies.

FOR THOSE OBAMA-BASHERS WHO STILL SEEM TO HAVE TROUBLE SEEING A BLACKMAN RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT, HEREIN I HAVE GATHERED A BRIEF HISTORY OF SOME OF HIS ACHIEMENTS. HOPELLY, THIS SHOULD ALLEVIATE SOME OF THEIR PREJUDICES AND DISTORTED VIEWS.Sen.Obama cosponsored bipartisan legislation for controlling conventional weapons and for promoting greater public accountability in the use of federal funds. In the current 110th Congress, he has sponsored legislation on lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for returned U.S. military personnel.
Since announcing his presidential campaign in February 2007, Obama has emphasized ending the Iraq War, increasing energy independence, and providing universal health care as his top three priorities.

Starlight:
What is your problem? You seem to have gone to great lengths to ascertain the true ethnicity of Barack Obama, and by some mathematical formula you have concluded he is not African-America. So what? Does that make him less or more attractive as a candidate. I have NEVER read posts by anyone who is so wrapped up on a person’s race. Just what kind of racist are you. From your diatribe which meanders all over the place, it’s difficult to tell.

I think for this reason Barack did the right thing in not wanting to distract from the moment but to honer it.

I certainly hope the Academy Award folks were watching. Perfectly Hillary will get nominated for Best Actress. HRC and Bill and huge phonies. They use “emotion” to manipulate the masses. Does anybody recall Bill at Ron Brown’s funeral? He was laughing up a storm with somebody there, and then he turned solemn and began to tear up as soon as the cameras were on him. HRC is certainly following in his “emotional” footsteps. How in the world can so many people be fooled by this junk? Come on, she just got caught up a huge fib last week about Bosnia. Is anybody really buying this act as well?

Deb,
That is the dumbest comment I have heard. Clinton earned $109m in 7 years. My guess is that it is closer to $140m if you add 2007. My point is that if the Clintons are so good tell me what they have done?
Obama is not an empty suite. I am not even in the country but I can tell you this majority of Obama promisings are things he promised as state senator and he has delivered in Illinios, health care, early childhood education, tax breaks for the working class, worked on racial profiling.
Ignorance is a disease. The cure is a little research. Tell me what McCain has done I will give you more of what Obama has done.

Obama really went to Indiana instead of Memphis, so that he could talk about Robert Kennedy and use Kennedy’s “words” that were spoken the night Martin Luther King was assassinated. Thereby, he aligned himself with two fallen heroes and gave a speech that would resonate in the upcoming Indiana primary. He really is eaten up with clothing himself in the Kennedy image, a ploy that does not reasonate with those who witnessed the events as they occurred. You would have thought that a visit to Memphis to remember King’s great sacrifice for the workers in Memphis would have been a priority. He cannot help himself, he is still too green to know what the most important decisions are.

Tell me again what Obama has done to help Americans? I have never saw him out doing any charitable work for any causes. Before the Clintons’ were even running and throughout the Clinton years, she have been out championing efforts with time and money. Efforts mean more than words! Obama’s only efforts have been to help Obama..not others! This is a major character shortcoming that the American voters need to look at.

I’ve heard Hillary Clinton tell the story many times in speeches, and it rarely fails to bring a horrified gasp from the crowd: An uninsured and pregnant Ohio woman, working for minimum wage at a pizza parlor, is turned away from a hospital because she can’t come up with $100. The baby dies, and so does the woman. Clinton talks about how this woman haunts her, and how stories like this show the moral imperative–and the urgency–of fixing a badly broken health care system.
THE PROBLEM IS: IT DID NOT HAPPEN – AT LEAST THE WAY HILLARY TELLS IT. GO TO NEWSWEEK – POLITICS -

HRCs “non-Academy Award winning acting” was absolutely the pitts. She had to READ her “rememberance”. If she truly remembered the incident, she would not have had to read the entire account. I also noted that apparently the last line of her script must have said, “now don’t forget, try to squeeze out a tear so it appears to people that you are truly touched”. OMG, please give me a break. There was no way this could have been a “rememberance” unless you could associate it with her “rememberance” of her Bosnia trip since that was NOT real either. I do believe that Paris Hilton could have given a better performance and Paris can’t act either! Even if the Washington Post does not give them to her, I have to give her 4 pinochios here as well!

It looks like many Obama’s supporters do not use their brain cortex to justify their choice, but rather sub-cortical structures of the brain responsible for emotions, not logical reasoning. They display blind rage, aggression and pure hate towards anyone who has reservations about their favorite. (In science, we call such reactions as coming from the “reptile brain”.) Responsible people are using facts as a base to formulate their opinions and not hearsay, gossip or questionable sources.
Since there are people here who are obviously using unreliable resources to obtain their information, it seems that one has to set the record straight again.
So, here is another set of cold facts about achievements of both candidates.
FACT CHECK
Updated: 12:42 PM ET Apr 1, 2008
Summary
A misleading e-mail has been making the rounds, alleging that Clinton has fewer legislative accomplishments than Obama, and that they are less substantive. We’ve had questions about it from a number of readers, and blogs have jumped into the fray. So what’s the real story on the Senate careers of the Democratic presidential candidates?
We find that the e-mail is false in almost every particular:
It sets up a face-off between apples and, well, broccoli, comparing only the Clinton-sponsored bills that became law with all bills sponsored or cosponsored by Obama, whether they were signed into law or not.
It includes legislation Obama sponsored in the Illinois state Senate, a very different legislative body.
It tells us that Obama has sponsored more legislation than Clinton, when in fact he has sponsored less.
It implies that Obama has passed more bills into law than Clinton, when the opposite is true.
Contrary to the e-mail’s assertions, Clinton’s and Obama’s contributions are not qualitatively different, and quantitatively, Clinton has the edge.
What impresses us is how misleading the e-mail is. Its anonymous author doesn’t apply the same standards to Clinton’s record and Obama’s, thus leading to false conclusions about their legislative records. For Clinton, the e-mail claims to examine bills that the senator has sponsored and that were passed into law during her Senate career. For Obama, however, it counts both sponsored and cosponsored bills, whether they were passed or not. And – something the e-mail doesn’t state clearly – it counts bills Obama sponsored in the Illinois state Senate, before he was a United States senator.
An accurate comparison with the Clinton bills listed in the e-mail would have included only the bills Obama has sponsored that have been signed into law. This comparison favors Clinton heavily, since 19 of her bills in seven years have become law, while Obama has had just 2 (two) in his three years:
We counted only bills for which Obama or Clinton was the sole, original sponsor. The e-mail inflates Obama’s numbers by counting his cosponsored bills, but Sarah Binder, a fellow at the Brookings Institution and an expert on legislative politics, tells FactCheck.org that often “cosponsorship does not require a commitment of time, energy or resources – let alone the political or policy ingenuity that might generate a bill idea in the first place.” Tallying sponsored bills, says Binder, is “a better metric of a senator’s agenda, efforts and interests.”
Clinton has been in the Senate a little more than seven years; Obama, a little more than three. Using the numbers above, we calculate that Clinton has been the sole sponsor of a few more bills and resolutions per year – 51, to Obama’s 43. And she has steered twice as many through the Senate and almost four times as many into law per year, on average, as Obama has.
Barack Obama all legislative achievements.

Hillary is a phoney!!! Obama honors Martin Luther King everyday in his speeches, and he did honored him yesterday as well, by making a speech about Martin Luther Kind, and the things that Martin Luther King lived, and died for, and that whether he is elected or not, our country should try to become more, and more like the country Martin Luther King envisioned, and lost his life trying to bring about.
I prefer a man who is not putting on tears, and offering fake apologies like McCain, who made his speech 40 years too late, and ONLY did it because he is running for president.
And Hillary is so self serving, she will do anything, say anything to get elected. No one forgets how she Hillary tried to make people believe that Obama was NOT a christian, and that it was her campaign staff who sent out pictures of Obama when he wearing African Garb, because Obama had been on a trip with US Army officials in an African country. AND Nobody forgets that under that same picture Hillary Staff members had lied, and tried to imply that the picture was proof that Obama was not a Christian. Hillary, and her staff knew full well that Obama was a Christian, BUT because of Obama’s color, and his name, Hillary decided to try to win the nomination by playing the race, and ethnicity card. How does her actions, her deceit in these matters, go with the fake words she was saying about civil rights yesterday. It DOESN’T!! From the beginning of this campaign Hillary has tried to use Obama’s name, and his race against him, even when Hillary Clinton knew Obama is a Christian, and that he is a qualified candidate (which Clinton has said out of her own mouth, including that she thinks Obama would make a great president!)

Obama’s lead in the polls seems to bring out the spitefulness, the gnashing of teeth and telling of lies for those in the race behind him.

presto,
Thanks for those records. Most of us know what she has done, but it is clear how much greater her work and accomplishments measure. You gave some very specific data. When someone throws out the race card, they need to look at the list of notable African-Americans her bills honored. Do they even recognize the names and their histories?
Some people do not want to read anything of merit. They just want to rant and rave. They are the ones playing the race cards instead of looking for the most qualified and experienced candidate.
Thanks for your research.

I am so tired of Hilary’s crying fits. She should be a actress in Hollywood for all the lying and acting she does. She told a story about how she reacted when she heard Martin Luther King had been shot. And in that story she’s trying to make everybody think that she really cared so much about Dr. Martin Luther King. How do you all of a sudden care about something that you were once against. But in her earlier years she once campaigned hard for a man that was totally against the whole Civil Rights Movement. She lies so much that she can’t even remember the lies that she tell. Ms. Clinton is so fake, nothing about her is real. I felt that when she teared up in that speech she gave I felt that was not from the heart it was just another acting job for Ms. Clinton. Another attempt to get people to like her. Another way to get people to vote for her. She makes me sick.

I do agree with the Canadian. The pettiness can become quite tiresome. I’m a Native American and to be honest, I think Obama or Hilary is exactly what this country needs. I’m tired and exhausted of where the power and concerns of this country has led us to. I think, just the redistribution of powers within the U.S. is a plus for all the minorities and women. Enough of all the Bush’s and McCain’s.
