RNC and John McCain Condemn Anti-Obama TV Ad; Hillary Clinton Mum
This morning the North Carolina Republican Party introduced a TV ad against Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., using images and sound from his controversial former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
(Okay, technically the ad is against Democratic gubernatorial candidates, but only nominally. It’s clear purpose it to tag Obama as "extreme.")
"For 20 years, Barack Obama sat in his pew listening to his pastor," the narrator says. Cue Rev. Wright and his "God d— America" sermon.
The ad then mentions Democratic candidates Bev Perdue and Richard Moore, who have endorsed Obama.
"They should know better," the narrator says. "He’s just too extreme for North Carolina."
**
I asked the campaign of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., what they made of the ad.
"John McCain strongly rejects this ad and the type of politics that degrades our civics," spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker immediately responded. "From the beginning of this process McCain has expressed his intent to run a respectful campaign based on the issues, and we have repeatedly called for all parties to follow his lead."
Within a few hours, McCain had written a letter to the chair of the North Carolina GOP, Linda Daves, saying, "From the beginning of this election, I have been committed to running a respectful campaign based upon an honest debate about the great issues confronting America today. I expect all state parties to do so as well. The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats. In the strongest terms, I implore you to not run this advertisement."
McCain said that the ad "does not live up to the very high standards we should hold ourselves to in this campaign. We need to run a campaign that is worthy of the people we seek to serve. There is no doubt that we will draw sharp contrasts with the Democrats on fundamental issues critical to the future course of our country. But we need not engage in political tactics that only seek to divide the American people. Once again, it is imperative that you withdraw this offensive advertisement."
Republican National Committee spokesman Danny Diaz issued a statement condemning the ad as well.
"Senator McCain has been very clear that he expects to run a respectful campaign based on the critical issues confronting the nation," Diaz said. "The RNC has been in contact with the NC GOP and communicated that we do not believe the ad is appropriate or helpful and have asked that they refrain from running it."
**
This morning I asked three different communications officers of the Clinton campaign for comment on the TV ad.
As of 5 p.m., the Clinton campaign has not commented on the ad.

2) For Hillary to grab the Dem nom

The Clinton Silence is deafening and disgusting. Has the Clinton camp addressed the math yet? You know the fact that Clinton will have to win the remaining contests with 70% of the vote to just pull even with Obama?

From what I can determine, there was nothing untrue in the NC ad. It should be run, that is unless McCain is afraid of what Obama has on him. Telling the truth is not being negative.

The Clinton silence tells it all. She wants the nomination so bad, even though she isn’t the best person for the job. Is she really at the point where she can’t even speak up or denounce the ad? Apparently.

I am not too fond of negative campaiging, but the dirty secret is it tends to work. In this case there was nothing inaccurate about the ad, it was just low class.
Posted by: Tom | April 23, 2008, 5:36 pm 5:36 pm
It’s not up to Hillary to decide this.
I highly respect her for staying out of this nonsense. If she speaks up, she’s damned and if she doesn’t, she’s damned.
This is not her issue.
It’s between the republicans and Obama and is their issue.

Conservative talk radio wants Hillary to win really bad. They trash Obama at every turn. They are obviously afraid of him and do not fear Hillary at all. McCain can win many hispanics, African Americans turned off to democratic party and the young turn away from Hillary. This is how they see a Hillary win and they are full of it. Obama will stomp their McCain the “corportate spokesman” and we will finally have hope.

Isn’t great how the republicans are screwing with the dems primary. All we need now is some more serious dirt to be dug up on obama causing super delegates to take the nomination away from obama, then his supporters won’t vote for Hillary and we have a mccain landslide.

Hillary Clinton is a despicable, and desperate loser. There is absolutely no way for her to win the nomination bases on pledged delegates. She relishes any kind of nastiness against Obama, regardless of where it comes from. Deep in her heart she rejoicing from this kind of republican attack against Obama, as long as it prolongs the blood letting to the democratic party. What a hippocryte! Whasn’t she the one who complained about the “vast right wing conspiracy…? Why would anyone want such a person to be our president?

This is why McCain is such a frustrating nominee. Since when is the TRUTH about where someone attends CHURCH SERVICES off limits? Americans have a right to know as much as possible about the candidates, especially TRUTHFUL INFORMATION. Just another example of why, when I get asked by the Republican Party to give $$$, (which I used to do), I laugh and throw the pleadings in the trash. The Republican Party is no longer my party…neither party is. Just another shining example of how Mr. McCain cares more about Illegal Immigrants and his Democratic Challengers than he does about conservatives. That is his chioce. My choice will be to STAY HOME on Election Day!

The republicans want Hillary, the Bosnia warrior and his spouse so badly – becuase they know the Clintons cannot win a general election – George Stephanopoulos’ dream of getting a job in a Hillary admin is not going to happen – no matter how much George tries to help Hillary using the ABC platform.

I live in AZ, so my vote won’t count for much anyway…(popular vote wins is more than overdue). But i would vote for Hillary. Obama, just isn’t ready in my opinion. So third party candidate for me when obama gets the nomination. I don’t think the country will go for an affirmative action president. You can’t criticize the man for anything. Republicans are scared of Obama, theyknow they do not stand a chance, If dem are stupid they will fall for Hillary. When your opponent tells you who he or she would like to run against it is in fact the contrary. Several I heard republicans say we don’t know how to run against Obama , suddenly they changed their tune, to make a way for HRC. Mark my words HRC will not win the nomination. She is a traitor for enlisting the help of Mellon Scaife the one who funded Bill’s impeachment. Someone hurt your husband and you seek their help? It is sick. Um, yeah right. McCain asks them to stop the attacks (wink wink), please don’t make Obama look bad (wink wink), I don’t condone this (wink wink).
Just like the Swiftboating of John Kerry — McCain (a fellow veteran) was unable to prevent him from being torn apart. Kerry has 3 purple hearts, but McCain stood by and said, “please, stop… (wink wink) please, stop”.
McCain is the “good cop”, but he’s powerless, and that’s fine with him.

McCain is smart for wanting the ads pulled. He knows that these ads have little impact on Obama and tend to backfire on the one making the attacks. The Wright faux “scandal” has not helped McCain or Clinton in the polls nor has it significantly diminished Obama in the polls. In fact, Obama closed a 25 point deficit into a 9 point loss in PA. Leave it to the GOP to try a failed tactic.

Hillary will not win the nomination, but she will also not step down until the next president takes the oath. After that, she will beat the “it should have been me” for 4 years. Since she is doing such a great job of destroying Obama for the Republicans, he will emerge from the Dem primaries unelectable. McCain can take the high road and not do any negative campaigning against Obama. All he has to do is remind everyone the negatives that have been brought up for the past year from the Clinton camp. McCain, unelectable 6 months ago, will end up in the White House and Hillary will have her dream of running again in 4 years. Don’t let the crocodile tears from New Hampshire fool you, Clinton has a device to pump the blood through her body, but it’s not a heart.

It proved again and agin Obama couldnot win over white vote, then he cannot win G.E…
Clearly, race will be one top issue in this election with 90% of AA voting for their half brother and majority of white voting for white…
The base of Dems inlcudes white, black, latino and other minorities…
The base of Reps will be majority of whites…
So if the whites or other minorities from Dems party won’t vote or vote against Obama, then Obama has little chance to win…..
So far, Obama proved again and again he has been in race just because of his skin….
It is undeniable fact: Obama lost white votes, women votes, Latino votes and other minority votes excluding AA according to past voting records….

I am very concerned about Obama. I am not a fan of smear tactics but as a life-long Democrat I cannot support this man if he represents our party. We must fight hate no matter what the form and Obama’s associates are very radical. I also do not support slavery reparations and a few other policies Obama supports. In the end I will just simply not vote. I wish all of this information came out earlier. I know if the press did its job Edwards would have had a better chance because Obama’s skeletons would have been exposed.

This type of nonsense is to be expected. I care about the issues that matter to me and most americans. $4 gasoline, food costs, oil $120, getting out of the mess in Iraq. Interesting how Obama, by having the audacity of running for the US presidency, managed to mobilise the whole country against him. What you have is the Reps, his fellow Dems and of course the citizens are falling over themselves castigating him. Just wanted to let the Republicans know, that I am an Independent voter as are many, and the CRAP I’ve been seeing lately coming from either the Clinton Camp and now the McCain Camp that doesn’t directly focus on the matters at hand is a MAJOR TURNOFF to many of us. Obama being attacked and having to defend himself from all this spin is a PATHETIC out for Both Your Camps!
You throw a little dirt his way while covering up your OWN STINK…It doesn’t cut it for people who have eyes to see, and those who are truly paying attention.
I see Obama WANTING to debate the REAL issues so far. I see Clinton and the expenses she has run up, and NOT PAYING her bills and being in MAJOR debt. That shows me that she is NOT ORGANIZED and I DON’T WANT THAT in the White House after MR.bush!
And Mr. McCain, all I can say is you can’t make up your mind which court your playing on.
To the DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL PARTY:
My vote will be for Obama…and there are so many of us who have not been polled that will do the same. If Hillary gets it by hook or CROOK, she will NOT get MY vote!

“John McCain strongly rejects this ad and the type of politics that degrades our civics,”
Kind of prissy, for a “war hero”. ALL the candidates are a little prissy this time around, probably in let’s-pretend deference to having two birthday-suit candidates on parade — viewing with alarm for teevee, while hirelings and camp-followers see to the tough stuff.
Especially since the ad’s as likely to mobilize “black” voters FOR Obama, and a heck of a lot of the “white” people aren’t going to vote for him anyway.

It is funny that everyone has said Hillary has been too hard on Obama. But you see that as soon as the press is as hard on Obama as it has been on Hillary that he comes out with nasty attacks against her.
With that said… Hillary has had many opportunities to hit Obama hard but she has never hit him as hard at the Republicans will. The big issue is that he can not take it. He has too much against him. These ads will just get worse and worse as time goes by.

I disagree with Senator McCain. I want to know as much as I can find out about the candidates, not the least of which is their judgement. The fact that Obama spent so many years in Rev. Wright’s church, and is so close to him, speaks volumes about his judgement, or lack thereof. It helps me to figure out who is is. The ad simply reminds the electorate of this fact. I have no problem with it. Why shouldn’t Obama have to answer for this? Enquiring minds want to know!

It looks like McCain could win this race — neither Democrat will be able to get past him. It’s possible that Hillary could get the nomination – Mr. O is losing favor with many people — he’s not who they thought he was, as they’re finding out. Regardless, McCain has more background and known history than either Dem — I think he’ll get it. That’s OK with me — he’s the best of the three.

I heard, but haven’t seen, the ad and it sounds fair to me. It’s not an anti-Obama ad, it doesn’t introduce anything new or make any new charges. Everyone from Bush to Clinton to Reagan has been called ‘extreme’ at one point or another.
The ad is an outside the Beltway, outside the press bus, take. Right or wrong, if the Obama is president, the Democrats will be viewed by many as the party of Jeremiah Wright and his sermons. Local candidates will obviously and fairly try to exploit that notion. If Obama succeeds, this ad will be the first of many and they do not deserve condemnation. That’s your spiritual mentor, that’s what he said, man-up Obama and quit whining through surrogates.

“I know if the press did its job Edwards would have had a better chance because Obama’s skeletons would have been exposed.”
There are more than a few John Edwards partisans for whom neither of the center-right diversity twins is an acceptable substitute.
THESE voters — left Democrats, and others (remember that Ralph Nader endorsed John Edwards) — will NOT be boarding the Obama bandwagon.
The better Clinton does, the longer it goes, the greater the chance that hot-house hustler Obama — who’s spent his entire sheltered life being groomed for installation as a top dog — implodes, or is further exposed not only as “unelectable”/unable to govern, but as the profoundly UNdemocratic tool of a bad bunch of corporate white guys for whom questing after absolute power is a class amusement.
We can watch and pray, for the Democratic “leadership to conclude that the birthday-suit season is over, and that it’s time to nominate real Democrat John
Edwards — not a “post-partisan”, not encumbered by a presidential
spouse — to carry forward the Democratic nomination, roll back and repair abuses of the present administration, reclaim democracy, and work on social justice and sane foreign policy.
By nominating Edwards, the Dems also could short-circuit the defection of traditional Democrats to Nader, McKinney, and/or Gravel — all or most of whom might well be brought aboard the Edwards train.

Once again so many are distracted from the real issues. The lapel pins, the Rev. Wrights, the crying in public, or the dodging bullets in Bosnia…remember gay marriage? I don’t care if the president is cutting lines on a mirror in his oval office if I can get some affordable, useful health care and not have to pay $3.50 for gas. I don’t care if my gay neighbors are married. What are they going to do? Increase the divorce rate from 50% to 55%? Don’t care. Stop being distracted from the real issues at hand by all of this. It’s fabricated specifically to distract you. Would you mind gay people getting married if it meant that our sons and daughters were dying in Iraq while we flip the bill over here? Would you rather have someone in office who won’t wear a flag lapel pin or someone who’s can’t run a baseball team, goes into oil, becomes preisdent and the price of oil goes up to $120 a barrel? Wake up and stop being distracted, America. Turn off American Gladiator and American Idol and do some good, old-fashioned thinking.

amazing really… Obama sits in a “racist” church and he is condemned from all sides… whites sit in a “racist” church and they’re just doing what comes natural.
This country may not be ready for a black to live in the White House, but it has less to do with his/her ability to govern as it does with the bigorty and fear and hate that continues to reside if the souls of too many people.

Have any of you listened to the entire Wright sermon, or just the garbage Fox and Hannity dish out, ad nauseum?
Huffington has the Hannity highlights, in context:
Copy and paste that link, or do a search on Rev. Wright’s sermon and pick the Huffington link on Google. Listen to the whole thing in context…do you know what that word means?
How low can this populace go?
ps: I am not an Obama supporter, yet. As a registered Independent, I like McCain, but there’s no way we can afford repubs for one day longer than Bush’s reign.

It’s the fault of VOTERS, people…many of you included.
We’ve had 35 years to select and elect federal officials to do something about our growing dependence on oil, but how many of you made that a test of the candidates you voted for??? None of you here, that’s obvious.
All most of you care about is which candidate will “parent” you the best. My parents did a great job and I bear and embrace my “personal responsibility”. A pity more of you don’t.

“long live democracy it is alive. loyalty to democracy, before loyalty to the party.”
Obama’s failure to buy the PA primary makes me think you might be right — I sure hope so! In any case, your post brings some brightness to a sordid situation.
If “the party” — the so-called leadership — cared a fig for the white working classes, OR the black working classes, or the millions of all colors in the underclasses, they wouldn’t be so all-fired determined to impose a waffling “post-partisan” as the Democratic nominee, just because John Kerry thinks he’s cute.

McCain is following the Ralph Reed, Carl Rove playbook developed in 1994 for republicans to capture a few more percentage points of the black vote. A prime rule is never to run a republican against a black office holder except with another black candidate and never really criticize black officeholders.
I could tell that when McCain jumped all over the talk radio host who attacked Obama last month. McCain is making a huge mistake by attacking the NC Republican ad.
The media has made plain not only that it will help hide Obama’s past, connections, and program, but it will continue to promote his candidacy.
Wright and his church are central to Obama and his “organizing” program, which is the Alinsky plan–partner socialistic agendas with activist, liberal churches. Jeremiah Wright’s church is part of that program.
Since the media will not expose Obama, only the Republican party and McCain’s campaign can lead the expose. If they don’t do it, McCain doesn’t stand a chance against Obama in November. And if McCain doesn’t wake up until say August, it will be too late.
It may aleady be too late, Obama and his media supporters have had a year to sell the image he has created to the public, and it will be very hard to undo.
Plus, McCain, by his NC actions, is likely to cool off some potential support. Assisting Obama by silence does not win votes for McCain.

Well, you’re damn right they want Hillary, but not for the reasons many think. Back in January, Republican commentators were like everyone else and singing Barack’s praises. But, now that we’ve all learned more about him, as much as they dislike Hillary (mainly because of her husband), they detest Barack even more with his racist church and pastor, his terrorist friends and bitter wife who hates America, the way he looks down on working class Americans. Nobody wants someone like that running for president. The Republicans can BEAT both Hillary and Barack; Barack’s negatives are almost as high as Hillary’s.

Obama’s going to save the known world?
I thought he was running for President, not God!?
Leave saving the world to God. Right now Obama has his hands full saving himself from further glimmers of weakness and trying to salvage his party from the jaws of defeat.
I never thought it would happen, but the Democrats are slowly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and they are forced to rely on an inexperienced junior senator to save them from their own flawed primary system.
If the Dems lose this year they have no one to blame but themselves.

The ad is a disgrace to the GOP. It should be thrown in the ashcan. While I’m a GOP by persuasion, I reject these tactics with contempt! Please let the GOP not follow the quite dreadful, odious example of one H Clinton! She is a crude nutter, totally bereft of scruples, and a disgrace to the USA, never mind her party. Obama has NO baggage, period! All these crude attempts to demonize him are based on ‘guilt by association’, not on any single word or deed of his! Compared to the awful Clinton, he is as pure as the driven snow! I admire the man for the natural leader he is. He definitely has more than a touch of class, and shows principles and integrity. He may just prove to be another JFK in many ways. I will, however, support McCain against him in the election, because I think America needs his experience and wide acceptance across party lines at this time. John S McCain III is also an American hero, and heaven knows, right now we need heroes! McCain is also a moderate who can unite Americans during his term. Finally, his dad was a USN admiral, as was his grandad. So his pedigree and understanding of military matters is flawless, unlike Clinton who is a complete ignoramus in this respect. The US is facing some tough threats and McCain is the man to deal with them. However, I predict that Obama will, in fact, one day become POTUS! And I have no quarrel with that. He’s made of the right stuff.

I find myself more disappointed in our country everytime I read the political opinions of my fellow Americans. I’m glad to be educated and strong enough to make up my own mind because the media and most of you posting comments miss the real importance, the issues. If Clinton is a liar than Barry is too! He has told as many or more lies than Clinton. People who support him excuse his lies. But the truth is he is a liar also. And if you can find a politician that isn’t a liar than you can bet they didn’t make it in the election. New politics don’t exist. If Barry had any kind of track record he might have had a chance at his “new politics” but he was under handed in IL and this election. So many people think he is different than Clinton but he has managed to hide his lies and deceit until now. Believe it or not he is a politician and he will lie to get elected. And he will tear down his opponents. So what about that is new?

It is not like Rev. Wright only said one bad thing and then apologized. This guy has said anti-American and racist things several times. The church that Obama chose is not about unity it is about lifting blacks up, “only blacks”. Obama called his racist grandmother a “Typical White person”. Obama said people in small town America cling to… antipathy for people who are not like them. Obama’s wife said this was the first time in her adult life that she was proud of this country.

If people actually voted on issues and who is the best candidate, they would vote for Hillary whether they like her personally or not. Those who keep saying she is distracting from the “issues” are just trying to cover up Obama’s lack of substance by keeping this “negative campaigning” flame burning. He never talks about specific plans on issues, just spouts generalities and cutesy remarks. He’s too busy giving finger gestures, eating waffles, mocking Hillary’s real solutions, and dissing middle America. His campaign is the one who started all of this race crap in the first place, and then tried to blame it on the Clintons. History will look back and judge who was the true dirty politician; but unfortunately, we may have to suffer another George W. Bush over the next 4 years if people don’t wise up.

Clearly, the torrent of purported outrage by the leftist media and Obama supporters is an attempt to make Obama immune from criticism for his close associations with extremists that have been going on for many years and are still extant. McCain is a fool for criticizing this ad. Apparently, he has very little regard for the right of voters to make educated decisions. The Real issue is how will Obama ever win in Nov when he cant win any of the big blue states…Hillary won them all!! And did you see the exit polls…Only 59% of Hillary supporters will vote for Obama in general election if Obama wins. How can he win with those numbers…he can’t!! Obama strength is with Black voters and rich white elites. These are traditionally democratic voters anyway, so no net gain for the general election. 92-95% of blacks vote for whoever the democrats nominate, so republicans lose zero voters with Obama, but will lose the lower class white Democrates, who, unfortunately, are racist. These elections are decided by 5% so the loss of lower class Democratic voters will hurt a lot in Nov!!

To me Rev.Wright is a deal breaker. Obama insults our good sense by saying he never heard sermons,DVDs,newsletter.

reason must prevail
you’re right if you are going to look at nasty close relationships you might want to look at the history of the clintons a little more before you do that.
we have a chance to make it right and get rid of these people who know how to play the game to their own advantage at the countries detriment.
that is why Obama is winning…vet your own candidate…because america may have heard of whitewater or vince foster or the fbi files or all the rest of the “clinton lists” but they don’t know what they are really.
and maybe if we had done a little more vetting we would have found out that hillary knows nothing about foreign policy when she tries to act like reagan in the cold war and threaten iran with nuclear obliteration…
yeah that’s how you get a country to not want nuclear weapons …threaten them with nuclear weapons… this is not reagan and russia… and it is scary that she wants to play like she understands these war dynamics…
and let’s police the middleeast and set up a protective umbrella on the us’s dime…and subjegate congressional approval by promising them “massive retaliation” from Iran …this to ANY country who forgoes nuclear power in the middle east… that is neocon imperialism and fiscally and constituionally obsceene to do coming out of Iraq.
What about russia and china… or any of our other allies that we are trying to get back on our side and take the weight off of us with iraq…you think they will all be okay with that?
if we had known this back in NH she would have lost.

One candidate now is stooping but if you look back at the Clintons history…they were never afraid of stooping…that’s why our government is so great now. Regardless of who you like, it has becoming increasingly evident that Obama is running his campaign on rhetoric, not substance. He has no real policy proposals, and those that he presents (i.e. raising capital gains tax) are quickly shot down by the least politically acute. While he may be a good speaker, his economic stances borderline on socialism. And while he tries to present himself as a viable option for the middle class, his ideas would hurt them the most (raise the payroll tax). I am not a big fan of the Clintons, but at least Hllary has a firm grasp on reality, and can legislate accordingly. Obama needs to reconcile his ideas with reality. It just goes to show you the disparity between those who adhere to academia, and those who live in the real world.

Obama has been winning only because the media has been acting as both cheerleaders and attack dogs on his behalf. The reaction to this ad is the latest example. Obama is nothing more than a two-bit statist whose chief goal is to grow the government and increase the class of people dependant on their fellow citizens. Moreover, he is the only candidate whose past shows evidence of racism.
McCain is indifferent to the type of change that is really needed by our country–a return to limited government, individual rights and economic freedom that has been responsible for 250 years of improvement in the human condition. He is, however, not a radical collectivist like Obama. We should have a better choice, but McCain is clearly the lesser of two evils.
Someone posted a message with repeating “fear” a dozen times. Fear is not an irrational response in the face of grave danger. We should fear the possibility of an Obama presidency. More socialism, greater centralization and more entitlements programs that we cannot afford is the best that we can hope for during an Obama presidency.

This whole past three months has been about 2012.
Hillary wants to make sure Obama is beaten up really good and that she opens up the door gets her brainwashed followers to get all heated up
“your queen, your queen…they are taking her crown away.”
opens the door to give permission for the debates to be on issues of friends of friends and questioning patriotism pulling it out of thin air…spinning (you know the woman in the pearls who hasn’t driven herself in 30 years calling the guy who just paid off his loans an elitist…oy lol)
she does all of this because …if she can’t have it now she doesn’t want the dems to have it.
Nothing in the entire background of the Clintons ever put their welfare and advancement before the country or it’s people.
Name me one thing that they did that put the country or it’s people or even a group of people that they put ahead of themselves…ever.
you can’t.

These are old, vicious Jesse Helms type tactics being used by Linda Daves and the N. C. Republican Party. Their gutter politics demonstrates the depth of hypocrisy in those who would produce and promode such ads, while claiming to embrace “Christian” values.
Also, if Obama is to faulted, with regard to Wright, it is because he has yet to demand that this man’s full background of military service and religious training and dedication to aiding those in-need, should be revealed by the media, instead of their one-dimensional, sleazy, ratings-driven caricatures of Reverend Wright.
The North Carolina Republican Party is acting in a wholly disgraceful manner that you can be sure, Ronald Reagan would find deplorable. Ms. Davies and her Republican Party have become a whorehouse party, which will pander for votes in whatever degrading and contemptuous manner that they might find advantageous.

“isn’t is funny that Mccain and the RNC can get a value system but hillary supporters is all based on
‘Your candidate above all values and morals.’”
I don’t understand why Obamabots think Clinton — whose ad it isn’t — is duty-bound to denounce an ad about the long-time leader of the Obamas’ “church family”, as Mrs. Obama has called it.
The ad shows factual footage of Obama’s spiritual mentor, who brought him to Jesus at an advanced age, gave him the title for his zillion-dollar ficto-biography, etc. — right? Tough darts.
(Is somebody out there afraid black-nationalist stuff might not play well to some “black” voters in NC, who are regular old Methodists and Baptists?)

The team who bragged about flying back to Arkansas to preside over the execution of a black man with half his brain missing in 1992, who tried to marginalize Obama as “the black candidate” with no wider appeal once he started BEATING them, then the whining “they played the race card” followed by “no I did not say that”- what, is it a surprise that these people will remain silent when the Wright issue is demagogued?
They have no character, and they have no principle, except their own devotion to seeking power.

It amazes me that people who camplain about the American people being brainwashed are the same people who strenuously argue for the suppression of the truth, as in their response to the North Carolina ad. Logic and intellectual honesty are not the hallmarks of Obama or his supporters.

Yes Belle as someone who says she fights for these same issues and they are more important than herself…
yes she should probably understand that the American people don’t need the distraction from “solutions”
but it’s only solutions to how she can win isn’t it.
C’mon …you can say it…it’s just solutions for her to win.
but you have been duped…and as someone who was duped for years by the clintons…I can tell you it’s hard rto wake up but once you do …you realize “what a dummy they made you out to be”
she’s a hawk about everything (that smile hides someone totally different as is apparent by her comments on Iran and her retisance to apologize for giving over power to the presidency…becasue she wants it…that’s why she only apologized for giving it to Bush…not the presidency)… and if you win by being a hawk… you get a government run by a hawk.
safer no …in bigger debt yes.

“headlines such as “TAX EVASION” on a picture of Obama”
Is that the one where the Obamas’ property taxes for 2005 — on a condo and the mansion — can’t be found to have been paid?
Probably (like Mrs. Obama’s $200,000 “raise” the same year) just some perk of attaining public servitude in Chicago …

I am beginning to wonder who the real whacko extremists are these days, the republican right (who refuse to even consider running the respectful campaign their nominee asks for) or these shrill Clinton hacks who seem to find everything they can to drag out of the sewer to smear Obama. In their zeal in supporting a near-mathematically impossible task, they are perfectly happy to cripple their own party. Amazing.

Nobody hates John Edwards.
Spouse Elizabeth Edwards, an entirely appealing person, has never been president of the U.S. OR a medical executive for the University of Chicago.

Character counts.
Obama will almost certainly get the nomination — unless Clinton manages to manipulate the system in some way that seems unlikely.
But in that hopefully unlikely event, it’s becoming increasingly clear to me who the *decent* candidate will be in such a contest.
If McCain keeps taking the high ground, he might just bring a little fresh air into the GOP.
Now if he would lose his neocon handlers…

Write Obama’s Name on Ballot if Clinton Steals Nomination
If Hillary Clinton steals the Democratic nomination from Obama, I will not vote for her or John McCain. I feel strongly about voting because people died so that we could have the right to vote; however, I cannot in good conscience vote for Clinton or McCain. Early during the primary season, I was okay with Clinton or Obama winning; however, the prolonged fight, increased negativity, and dirty tactics have soured my opinion of Hillary Clinton.
I don’t trust her now, so how can I trust her as president? I’m a registered Democrat. I used to be an Independent until I realized in Florida you had to belong to a particular party to participate in primaries. Her kitchen sink strategy and determination to muddy Barack Obama beyond repair for the General Election is too much.
If Clinton “steals” the nomination and you plan on staying home or writing Obama’s name in on the ballot, please sign this guestbook so that the media, pundits, voters, and superdelegates realize that the media spin and polling is not always accurate and can be skewed.

I applaud John McCain for condemning this kind of ad. He is taking the high road. He said on Chris Matthews last week that he will not run his campaign on these types of ads and he hopes his opponent won’t either.
On the other hand Hillary’s silence is troubling. If she won’t come to the aid of a fellow dem, even when a republican did, how can we expect her to come through for us. I don’t trust her and I believe she will tell us anything to get us to vote for her whether it’s truthful or not. I don’t feel she has my best interest at heart.

For North Carolina and Indiana voters, as with Pennsylvania voters, the real Barack Obama has emerged. And the Obama regime just doesn’t like the reality emerging clearly for the first time in the Democratic nomination circus.
Barack Obama has been pointing to leads provided by the bias of caucus votes and associated delegates while his campaign and supporters cry for Hillary Clinton to drop out of the nominee race.
Some of the Obama supporters have even had the disrespect to compare him to President John F. Kennedy. Barack Obama is no John Kennedy, and he will never be even close. However, if nominated, he would be the next George McGovern and suffer the same destiny.
Why McGovern? Barack Obama is the most liberal member of the United States Senate, something his campaign and supporters want to avoid drawing attention to. Obama is more liberal that Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Bernie Sanders, and Hillary Clinton combined.
The primary reason that Barack Obama has done so well up to this point is due to the kid glove treatment he has received from the media in general. In essence, the media deals with Obama as if he were a Hollywood celebrity instead of a Chicago-style politician.
Now that the attention of the Democratic party leaders and superdelegates has finally been brought to some semblance of focus, Indiana will offer a test of Obama’s ability to win an electoral election just as Pennsylvania did and with the same results.
However, one striking difference between Indiana voter composition and that of Pennsylvania does exist and deserves consideration as to implication in a general election. Indiana has the highest concentration of white voters in the United States. Will that make any difference? We shall see…

Non affiliates numbers are growing because many embarrass and disappointed repubs are leaving in droves, and more than half will vote Dem. With that I see why a lot of the post are hateful, racial, negative, and anti-woman. “Before he is finished, he will have destroyed the unity of the Democratic Party; he will have set race relations back 50 years; and he will have destroyed the Democratic Party’s chance to win the general election and with it, America’s chance to recover from the terrible reign of George Bush.”
So maybe “the media” HAS been playing for the right, with the goal of a permanent crusader administration. Except for Chris Matthews, who might possibly have gone gaga with misplaced “liberal” adoration for the vagueness of it all …
The country won’t just “recover” from the imperial setup Bush and Cheney have constructed: it’s going to take some slashing and burning and reconstruction.
John Edwards is the Democratic nominee who actually can accomplish this. While he was still campaigning, Edwards — and only Edwards — pledged to undo the wholesale domestic surveillance to which Americans are presently subjected by our peeping-Tom politicians.

Hillary should not have to defend Obama
Posted by: Bishop | April 23, 2008, 10:04 pm 10:04 pm
While John McCain is showing an initial desire to run a clean campaign, McCain may have to begin focusing on the true aspects of a radical, liberal Obama agenda.
Taxation is a good example. Obama espouses the implementation of a vast array of social programs in an attempt to mislead voters and garner support. Almost in the same breath Obama has promised to raise taxes, and not just on the wealthy.
For Obama’s plan to fix Social Security he would–raise taxes.
For Obama’s plan to fix Medicare he would–raise taxes.
For Obama’s plan to provide low cost prescription drugs he would–raise taxes.
For Obama’s plan to provide additional tuition support or “free” college tuition he would–raise taxes.
For Obama’s plan to provide national health care he would–raise taxes.
Basically, the Obama plan to fix anything wrong with government or society is to have the government expand its control and raise taxes.
American voters do not want more government control and intrusion into their everyday lives.
American voters do not want more and more of their already shrinking paychecks to go to Obama’s version of Big Brother.
And, if Obama should somehow manage to wriggle into the Democratic nomination, voters (not caucuses) will choose the alternative to higher taxes just as they did with McGovern, Dukakis, and Kerry.

Belle Star: Very astute analysis. I’ve been wondering the same thing from the start. Republicans knew that if Hillary Clinton ran for the nomination without serious competition, a united Democratic Party would rip them to shreds in November. What better plan, than to assist a candidate who is eloquent, has no real record to run on, and whom one can criticize only at their peril. Karl Rove is laughing at us all . . .

Posted by: lisa | April 23, 2008, 10:09 pm 10:09 pm
here’s a reason for the Republicans attacking Obama
1) To prolong the Dem battle
2) For Hillary to grab the Dem nom
Everyone knows the Republican want Hillary.
Smear, and distract. Are you people so easily distracted? Focus. The war in Iraq, oil prices, morgage crises, etc… These are what you should concentrate on. Obama over a year ago co-wrote legislation to try to increase the transparancy of lenders and what they were doing. He was way ahead of the curve on that, as he was on Iraq. Further, he isn’t eloquent, he’s direct. Further he believes in transparency of government. All he asks is that everyone is listen to. He listens even to those he disagree with to understand their anger, white males to black ministers. For this he is going to get skewered? Sad. If Hillary wins, we get same policies but her approach is either my way or the highway, al la her first health care attempt, that led to Republican take over of Congress. When the Repubs get into the inevitable fight with her we are doomed. This is management style that doesn’t work because it isn’t inclusive. McCain, he’s admitted he doesn’t understand economics. To the current oil crises he answer is to lower the fuel tax. This will lead to an increase in quantity demanded, which will reduce price a little, but will kick up the deficit which will reduce liquidity, driving up interest rates and slowing economic growh, just what America needs.

The real question is, if Obama wins the Democratic nomination, will he stick to his promise to take federal funding, and compete on a level playing field?
McCain said he would, and he has. How many candidates in this election will we have who stick to their promises? One, or two?
Man up, Barack. Show that you can win without the oversized George Soros warchest.

He may have fooled you or you simply weren’t getting the messages out there but people are getting it. The worst part is that it’s true and this is the guy people were voting for early on, granted the old “consider the source” applies when looking where the votes came from.
Posted by: CM | April 23, 2008, 10:30 pm 10:30 pm
Ksam,
His stance of I was against the war before I had to vote for it, isn’t impressive. He has at least 20 votes that either fund the war, support those profitting from it, or the people who lied to get us into it.
A freeze on a gas taxes would only stop funds from going into the highway fund. It would give Americans a break on the rising price, and help businesses re-coup losses from the 50% increase in prices just this year.
Several airlines have already gone bankrupt within the same week. And food prices are going to be going up even higher, because the trucking industry will no longer subsidize the fuel prices that clearly will not go down.
As it stands now the trucking industry gets between 20% to 32% of each load to help defray the cost of fuel. Depending upon the state the load starts it’s journey.
The issue of the deficit being kicked up isn’t an issue because like I said the taxes on fuel go into the highway fund. If anything as the tax burden is decreased people will have more disposable money to spend. That tax revenue still has nothing to do with the deficit however.
The issue of liquidity and interest rates, well lowered interest rates actually creates inflation because of an increase in money supply. Which devalues money that we already have in the market place, bank accounts, 401ks, etc. Which is why so many are against the Fed reducing rates and the resulting decrease in the value of the dollar. The liquidity issue is now only going to help banks and investment banks, as the newspapers have repeatly stated. The banks have been helping themselves to the new Fed ATM, but not passing on that cheap money to the people. So, liquidity has nothing to do with the fuel taxes either, but the credit crunch and deregulation.
And on your point that it is her way or the highway. Hillary has already proven that she can work with people she has had major disagreement with, take Scaife for example the man who went after them in the 90s. He has now endorsed Hillary.
Posted by: Cali girl | April 23, 2008, 10:31 pm 10:31 pm

Her negatives are so high this will only hurt her further

Posted by: geevill | April 23, 2008, 10:37 pm 10:37 pm
I like Hillary, but her tactics are useless and I am surprised that no one has yet pointed out why. She runs a negative campaign which has lost her superdelegates — 100 have endorsed Obama vs 9 or 10 for Hill since Super Tuesday. Hillary began in Pa polls 25 point ahead of Obama, but lost support to the tune of 15 points within a month to win by only 10 points. By not condemning personal and distorted ads against Obama that John McCain and the RNC are condemning, she is encouraging her supporters to vituperate Barack Obama with messages of hate and distortion as shown in the above comments — they get downright disgusting — and Hillary is responsible for engendering this hatred by not speaking out against it.

“We must do whatever we can to stop Obama and his radical supporters from hijacking the Democratic Party (much like Bush and the far-right have dominated the Republican Party for the last 8 years).”
Anybody who supports Obama in hope of his doing anything “radical” to disturb the prosperity pyramid and perma-war the Republicans have put in place is, based on Obama’s previous political performances, whistling in the dark.
He really IS a fraud. Stopping him just as soon as possible is a very good idea. He couldn’t buy the PA primary — even with John Kerry’s rich wife rallying with Mrs. Obama. Maybe he can’t buy North Carolina and Indiana EITHER. Now, that’d be nice …
(Just now on msnbc, Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann are screaming at each other about how much the Republicans want Clinton to be the nominee. These people should be ashamed of themselves. Or be fired. Or at least puzzled.)

Posted by: geevill | April 23, 2008, 10:44 pm 10:44 pm
pp: I agree. Obama fans are crying about an ad that depicts Obama’s racist and anti-American “mentor and spiritual adviser,” Rev. Wright. If Obama didn’t want to be associated with such a crude and hateful man, he shouldn’t have attended his church for 20 years, considered him his mentor and spiritual adviser, and appointed him to one of his election committees. I remember when Obama was asked about Wright before anyone knew about him, he said that there is “nothing controversial at all” about him or his church. Well, if Wright is such a nice and non-controversial figure, why is everyone upset that he is starring in a commercial. Obama fans can’t have it both ways. They’ve been defending Wright constantly in order to defend their messiah. As such, they should be happy to see this “wonderful man” who has “done so much for the community” on television. It should only help Obama, right?:

the ad does not speak to the issues, but does address judgement, character, “uniter/inclusiveness.”
AND, hillary is the candidate…bill and monica were not her doing, and whitewater, 40 million dollars later, was determined to be a non-issue.
the ad was done by the RNC making it perhaps necessary for mccain to address. it has no relation to hillary.

Alzach–you assert that “Hillary’s silence speaks a great deal about her lack of character.” You Obamaniacs complain when Hillary addresses Wright and when she is mum on Wright. The real telling silence is Obama’s. Obama sat in the pew for 20 years while Wright railed against “evil white Americans” and “middleclassness.” And don’t insult my intelligence by claiming that Obama didn’t know–a quick look at the church website, or even the stuff that Obama mentions in his book, was enough to alarm me. This guy will be president when hell freezes over!

You know what Jake? Did you contact the Obama campaign too or are they mum about it as well?
Why should Hillary say something? Barack’s a big boy — if he has a problem with it, then he should say something.
How is it that EVERYTHING that happens in this election cycle somehow loops back to Clinton?

“I want to hear about the issues. My husband is out of a job and we are hurting. I want to know what each canidate will do for me. What is wrong with that.”
Nothing’s wrong with that — except that brainy populist John Edwards is the only Democratic candidate with the backbone to address the REAL predicament of the un-rich, which is getting more dangerous every day.
Clinton and Obama are nearly identical on the “issues”, and both too timid by far — that’s why they don’t say much ABOUT issues. This is a rhetorical beauty contest between two candidates, each of whom is hated by half the country.
Pray for the Democrats to nominate John Edwards.

If some other politician wishes to point out BO’s significant character flaws, then more power to them, and thank God for them. Our country is much too important to us to take chances, and BO is risky…

If that doesn’t work out, join the zillions of Democrats who will vote for Ralph Nader — who endorsed Edwards — or for Cynthia McKinney, the Green Party candidate.

plans are not he same. to name a few differences:
1-there are no alliances(co=ops) like there were in 1993. in this plan you can keep your own insurance you have now.
2- no new bureaucracy would be set up, as proposed last time, to set up benefits
3- this time does not require small business owners to cover their workers
4- this time, by giving uninsured people tax breaks and incentives, it would make health care affordable to all………

Disclaimer: Black woman (originally an Edwards supporter who switched after the Wright controversy)
Now to state the obvious: The inherent racism of an ad featuring Rev. Wright is that Black people are not some kind of monolithic being who can’t think for themselves. I go to church to hear about God. Not form political ideologies. Hearing a speech does not make me a supporter of that speech, it makes me open-minded. Obama, a half white man, is most likely open minded, but if he states that he disagrees with Wright’s speech, why does the public feel that the black half can’t be that smart? I have yet to meet anyone who knows the names of McCain’s or Hill’s “spiritual advisors”.

adam,
bho cannot win the general election. first, calculate delegates as done in the general election, winner-take-all, and hillary would have amassed 1800+ delegates to bho 1100+…that is an indication of his run against mccain.

In the America of former generations, people like BO wouldn’t be where he is. Not because of racism, but because all of his criminal connections would make him ineligible.

of course they blame hillary for someone else’s ad. they blame hillary for global warming, warm beer, cold eggs, whatever. funny how they don’t blame obama when others attack hillary.
mccain is no idiot – condemn the ads, look like a good guy. the ads run anyway. same thing obama does all the time – pretend to be a good guy, have surrogates trash hillary. obamaites love it when hillary’s the target, but somehow not so much when their guy’s on the receiving end.
get used to it, politics is tough.
oops, forgot, obama’s too weak for this, won’t even debate any more now that his weakness was exposed, we should give him a break. sorry, not happening.

Have we returned to a McCarthyesque world? Guilt by association is selling again? Now it’s guilt by association twice removed? What a shell game…and we’ll all be conned if we buy into it.
About Wright, do some of you even know anything beyond the out-of-context snippets on TV? Do you know the complete text of the sermons, and therefore the fuller meaning? Try this article from the Christian Science Monitor called, “Did Obama’s Pastor Preach Hate?”
By no means do I condone the wrong-headed, harsh, and hurtful statements in question, but what arrogance and, if you’re Christian, how un-Christian to judge a man’s lifework based on a minute of footage! And how illogical and unfair to judge a man by another man’s statements!
By this guilt-by-association measure, McCain is very guilty: He sought out and said he was “very honored” to receive John Hagee’s endorsement. Hagee, if you’re not aware, refers to the Catholic Church as “the whore of Babylon, “The Great Whore,” an “apostate church,” a “false cult system,” and “the “anti-Christ.” He preaches a far-out Scriptural prophecy that espouses a pre-emptive military strike against Iran to bring about Armageddon. Google it.
Then there’s Rod Parsley and his extreme views. McCain, who stood beside the evangelical minister at a 2/26/08 Cincinnati rally, said, “I am very honored today to have one of the truly great leaders in America, a moral compass, a spiritual guide…thank you for your leadership and your guidance.”
Among Parsley’s extreme fundamentalist views: there should be no separation between church and state in this country; “Allah was a demon spirit” and there is no difference between violent Islamic extremists and other followers of Islam; and “…America was founded, in part, with the intention of seeing this false religion destroyed.”
It seems to me the Republican smear machine has lost the “Obama equals Wright” argument. After all, McCain only “speaks out against” Hagee’s bizarre anti-Catholic rants but still “admires and respects Dr. Hagee’s leadership of his Church” and he’s still glad that he sought out, received, and accepted Hagee’s endorsement. McCain sought out and accepted Parsley’s endorsement.
I shouldn’t forget: Remember the Keating Five?
CONTINUED ABOVE.

too bad that clinton and her supporters don’t realize that…

get off the low-level human debate…

I don’t care about the whole context of Rev.Wright’s sermon. The truth is he damns rich white people then moves into a multi-million dollar home in a white neighborhood.
And even if he only said “GD America” one time and blamed 9/11 on us one time then that is unacceptable to me.
And this is who Obama looks up to for 20 years?
Obama insults our intelligence by saying he never heard the sermons, DVD’s,newsletters. Some can ignore this.
But I have to look at myself in the mirror everyday and I will not have any part of putting this man in the White House. America deserves better.

3) Get a clue
Posted by: LuB | April 24, 2008, 9:17 am 9:17 am
Why should Hillary Clinton step into this????
Obama chose Wright, and for some people, that is an issue. Obama must demonstrate that he can refute the issue effectively. More importantly, he must show that he can stand on his own. If he wants to win, he cant rely on Hillary as a foil and he certainly cant rely on her to defend him.
Anyone who thinks that we would not see this kind of stuff (and much worse) in the general election is living in the Obamasphere. Let’s get real.
Posted by: Nancy | April 24, 2008, 9:32 am 9:32 am
PP, you wrote: “…in this plan you can keep your own insurance you have now.”
A couple of months ago, during one of the debates in which Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama were detailing their respective health care plans, Sen. Clinton made a very bold statement. She stated that those individuals who are pleased with their current medical insurance can keep that insurance…”For Now.” She actually said, “For Now.”
The discussion of 47 million people being uninsured is just a complete ruse. Both Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama detest private medical insurance. They both want to eventually do away with private medical insurance and replace it with a Medicare like bureaucracy. But they are also keenly aware that eliminating private medical insurance cannot occur overnight. That it must be a gradual transition. But their ultimate goal is for a complete federal government takeover of our medical healthcare system.

First McCain was wrong for criticizing the ad for 3 reasons
1- It was not an ad for his presidency
2- It was truthful
3- Is not Obama playing ads criticizing McCain’s age?
Is Obama going to tell Soros not to use the 50 million + dollars they have on the side to attack McCain?
Is Obama going to tell Moveon, Daily kooks, media matters, NYT, MSNBC, CNN, CBS, NBC and other liberal organizations to not say negative about McCain.
There is a difference between Liberal ads and Republicans the ones from Republican are based on true facts, the ones from libs are outright lies!
As already seen from the NYT and CBS!!

Iona: Who hasn’t seen the AD. I think its great and it tells the truth about Obama. You are well aware of the facts about Obama because they were told on the internet and George brought one out at the debate. Obama did not choose the right people to associate with. If your not anti-american yourself why then would you associate with Ayers, the underground dog who was wanted by the Feds, a pastor that is racist, anti-american and hates white people. Its bad enough he associated with Farrakhan and Rezko. Obama may have you fooled but the battleground states that didn’t vote for him weren’t fooled by his copied speeches of RFK with RFK’s word of hope. Obama is a liar and a fake and its the majority of the college students of today that are voting for him because he is in their class of booze and drugs.

Vanessa: That’s good that the republicans want Hillary because Hillary can beat McCain at his game. With Obama as nominee McCain would get a landslide. If you think the battleground states would vote for Obama you better think again. Hillary’s voters would switch to McCain. Get a grip. You better listen to the news more often. Those states that voted for Hillary didn’t want Obama to begin that’s why they didn’t vote for him. I know there are many Hillary haters on the internet but that’s evident, the Clinton’s accomplished their goals in life and made their millions that way. Jealousy doesn’t get you anywhere it just eats into you. And that’s what is happening to the Hillary haters on the internet. These people probably set their goals and couldn’t accomplish them and they dislike those that did.

This is a brilliant move by McCain. This ad now moves into prime time replay, McCain looks like the “I’m above this kind of nonsense” kind of candidate, and of course the NC Republican party is going to keep the ad anyway, because McCain knows it’s none of his business what ads they use. NICE MOVE, MCCAIN!

Nancy: You are so right about Obama. Obama never like white people as a young boy and he doesn’t now. He needs their votes to win and in the states of MN,SC & WI they gave him the win. When will the white people ever wake up to the fact that he is using them for his own advantage to make history like MLK. Obama never went to the southside of Chicago to meet the families who lost their children to gun violence. He doesn’t care about them he cares only about himself. He lives in Hyde Park next the Ayers who went underground because of his bombing. His pastor has hated the white people since time. Pastor’s are suppose to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ not politics. Obama knew this when he attended that church. I view Obama as anti-american and a racist. The voters in IN and NC better wake up to this fact.

Nancy and Mariann Pepitone, nobody can reunify and reinvigorate the republican base like Hillary as the nominee. That is why Rush, Hannity, Fox&Friends, OReilly and Foxnews are pushing for her to be the nominee. She is the easiest target for them to beat. Hill has a lot of skelettons in the closets, that is a fact. She is not a strong leader and has no managerial skills looking at how she organized her campaign which should still be in the red now. Somebody who cannot run a campaign how would you give to her the destiny of the greatest nation on earth? Hill, the Bosnian General, has to leave the context and help Obama to beat McCain as a drum. God bless America and God bless Obama.OBAMA08.

BKMC-
The republicans have long since abandoned any so-called strategies to try to assist the “weaker” Democratic candidate.
What we’re all hearing is that their antipathy to Obama has to do with his anti-american, divisive and elitist views. They can’t wait until the General Election because people would understandably ask, “where were you when this information was fresh and before the public?”.
There’s also a large number of Republicans – some in my own family – who feel that they don’t want Obama and his associations and beliefs getting the kind of national and international exposure that comes during the general election cycle.
It’s that patriotism that many republicans genuinely feel for our country. They feel Obama is just too dangerous and extremist.

Obama supporters and the media(matthews and cnn) want to paint this as racism, the vote in PA was due to some degree by racism. The very thought that there are voters who don’t like Obama due to his politics and associations(past and present) is completely alien to them. They have traded there personal and journalistic ethics for blanted biased toward there favorite canidate, yet they don’t have the guts to say they support him openly. I grew up watching Benard Shaw, Ted Koppel, David Brinkley, and so on….I miss them.

Of course the PA primary turned on race. Does anybody believe that 92% of Black people voted Obama because they like his policies better than Clinton’s? Get real. Obama, who wants to be the post-racial candidate, has turned into the ultra-racial candidate. If Black voters were splitting between Obama and Hillary then this might not be such an issue. However, because they are voting almost exclusively for Obama, Obama is very heavily identified with this group. Obviously, this makes White voters nervous.

If republicans think Obama is the “weaker” candidate why does Rush, Hannity, O’Reilly, Scarborough, Buchannan, etc. keep pushing Clinton as the one that will win the Democratic Nomination?
Obama was raised by a single mom and had to go to school using student loans. McCain married a beer distributing heiress worth more then $100 million, owns four different homes, was part of tge Keating five, Washington insider for 25+ years. Who is elitist?
“Our country is not the only thing to which we owe our allegiance. It is also owed to justice and to humanity. Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong” – James Bryce
If you like what we have had over the past 8 years. McCain is your guy. If you would rather be bogged down in a war with no clear mission. McCain is your guy. If you want the richest 1% and corporations to continue to receive the majority of the tax cuts. McCain is your guy.

Seems like a number of people are voicing the argument that if Obama asks NC Republicans to take this ad down, that it would be hypocritical to say anything negative of McCain later.
I think there is a critical distinction here and that is that these are ads about an association of Obama’s not about Obama himself, and one whom Obama has already disassociated himself from.
Obama should still have the right to be critical of McCain’s voting record & platform, he should not be allowed to attack him for the statements of others.
Additionally, I’d say that the TV stations who air this ad should largely be held responsible for their role in furthering this kind of mudslinging. I commend WRAL-TV in Raeleigh and WSOC-TV in Charlotte for pulling the ad, and encourage other stations to do the same.
