Senator Clinton Gets a Workout in Philly

ABC News’ Eloise Harper Reports: Senator Hillary Clinton got into the workout groove when she stopped by a YMCA aerobics class in Philadelphia Friday morning.

About 20 ladies were line dancing, getting their workout, when in walked the Democratic presidential candidate. Clinton waved her hands back and forth in the air and bounced her head from side to side to the music.

She shifted from side to side but declined an offer to join in on the class as they exercised in coordinated moves. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.

When the New York senator was asked later about the dancing, she replied, "Ill tell you what that was a better work out than it might have appeared at first. I think we need to put that music on the plane."

Clinton then suggested her campaign should do some of the moves she picked up in the class – in flight.

"Instead of throwing the tennis balls and the oranges we need to be going back and forth." Clinton said.

Senator Clinton has said in the past that she enjoys walking to get a work out. She moves at a pretty quick pace when she walks, leaving reporters who try to keep up with her moving at a light jog at times.

Perhaps Clinton will add this new dance routine to her work out plan.

She won’t win Philly
The African American population is LARGE
She should practice what Obama is doing
Go into town where she has a chance
This is Obama is chpping away at her lead
He’s hitting places where she has a small lead and with hopes to overturn
It’s working

Vanessa, Vanessa…Where will we find you on April 23rd when Hillary is still in this race because Obama can’t close the deal?
Your comments are a Xerox of Ohio.

Vanessa where are you getting the info on Philly? Because the real truth is Obama is slipping in the polls that are in state

Posted by: Bishop | April 11, 2008, 2:11 pm 2:11 pm

No one has lied on current events, issues and platforums as Obama has.
Obama has lied on all his friends, and his own family.
He lied to the Blacks in their own churches. How can they trust him now?
He refused to go to the Black Caucus, He Refused to go to MLK Aniversary.
He is supporting gays this week over them.
He has shown the black people they are no better than the rest, Just a vote he wants.
All are equal under Obama, your just a vote to him. His own persoanl goal and agenda is his priority.
The only thing you can beleive in about Obama is he will do absolutely any thing for a vote.

I hope Vanessa isn’t still quoting the stale poll by PPP (D) that had Obama up by 2 percentage points in PA back on 4/1.

Posted by: LOM | April 11, 2008, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

Obama, as he did in Ohio, is out-spending Clinton by 5-1 in Pennsylvania. Obama will, as he did in Ohio, lose Pennsylvania to Clinton. She is the better candidate.

Posted by: svsolis | April 11, 2008, 2:18 pm 2:18 pm

Closing the gap on a 20 point lead is hardly news. We have seen that once he starts campaigning in states, he can do that. Good for him. Big deal. The bigger question is whether or not he can close the deal! In short, the answer is NO!
All of the pundits say she has to win by huge margins or she’ll have to get out. Well, 10% wasn’t *huge* by their standards in Ohio, but she’s still in the race.
I’m actually not a bully. I have actually complimented Vanessa on a couple of occasions for talking about the margin of error. When was the last time you complimented a Hillary supporter?

All politicians are like what they are….politician but after all said and done, whom do we truely trust will work for the people?what has Obama ever fight for and lose?Atleast we know what Hillary has fought for sohe has a record.Obama has no record. It is like going to a nurse…one of the has a a note write on its door I am Register Nurse I pass the exam and Another one write I write the exam and fail and the third one wrote nothing….who will u trust?Americans think?

I agree… Obama won’t win PA but she needs a landslide
15+
Its looks more and more everyday chances are
she’ll win by 6 or 8
she’ll only have a net gain of maybe 6 or 7
Thats not enough
And if a shocker occurs
and Obama wins PA
April 23:
Clinton suspends her campiagn
The point is
she needs a landslide and I believe she won’t get it

Posted by: Vanessa | April 11, 2008, 2:35 pm 2:35 pm

I’ve complimented several Hillary supporters on several occasions when they’ve shown some class — certainly not very often as that’s a bit of a high bar for some of the folks on here whose desperation level has risen as fast as their dialogue has plummeted.
Well, we have a week and a half to see just how PA will turn out! Until then, polls are polls. But I don’t think it’s nearly so much a matter of Obama closing the deal as it is Clinton facing reality.
Obama 2008 — Yes, WE CAN!!!

It’s ok LOM – Clinton supporters can “take it” because like Clinton, we are humanitarians who understand the human element. As the nomination process continues and their candidate fails to make significant progress towards locking up the nomination, Obama supporters will feel dispair and lash out emotionally. The bad thing about that is: Obama cannot win in the GE without the majority of the very people they lash out at. Right now, as I am sure you know, the polling trends are not in his favor but things are still close.

Posted by: DCVoter | April 11, 2008, 2:37 pm 2:37 pm

Even if HRC doesn’t win PA by double-digits, it will still be one more big state that doesn’t go to Obama. OH, NY, MA, NJ, CA, TX, PA, FL, MI….
Combine the loss of another big state primary with all the other “unelectable” qualities of the Obama campaign, and it becomes one more negative data point that will influence the SuperDs.
HRC ’08 or McCain ’08

Vanessa — You said the same thing about Ohio, on script with the rest of the pundits. Tell me, why does she need to win by a landslide? Is it your position that 6 or 7 points is not enough to continue her candidacy?
I will agree if Obama pulls an upset, she will have little to no argument for staying in the race. I truly doubt that will happen though, but never say never.

How do you think Obama will do in Puerto Rico???

Posted by: svsolis | April 11, 2008, 2:47 pm 2:47 pm

Vanessa – no male candidate has ever been criticized for staying in a nomination race all the way through theo convention regardless of standing. As a female, one yould think you could see how you are being sexist in your views. Unfortunately, women discriminate against women more than men do and that is why women still make 70 cents on the dollar and suffer accepted sexism in society every day. You might want to reassess your perspective so that you do not appear as condescending and sexist as some of Obama’s surrogates and supporters do.
A landslide is actually not needed in PA for her to remain competitive. The different in delegates is much lower than the remaining delegates and superdelegates. Without FL and MI, neither candidate will likely achieve half the delegates prior to the convention so neither candidate will become the presumptive nominee before then. Delegates are not bound to the electorate, superdelegates are not bound to the electorate, and unpledged delegates are not bound to the electorate… good thing too or there would never be a nominee this year for the dems. With FL and MI (court cases in process and credentials committee undecided) possibly being seated even 1/2 credit per delegate, the race tips to Clinton. Would you then ask Obama to step aside? Not likely – you would hope that the delegates at the convention vote to give him the nomination.

Posted by: DCVoter | April 11, 2008, 2:47 pm 2:47 pm

Actually I thought she would win Ohio, not by 10 but maybe 7 or 8
Every poll had her up by as much… one poll even had her up by 14
I thought Obama would have won Texas
It seems with Rush Limbaugh’s help… she won Texas
She needs to win by a landslide b/c she needs to close in on pledge delegates
Penn is designed for Sen. Clinton and if she wins by 7 or 8 and she was leading by 30 at one point…
Not only will she not close the gap in pledge delegates
but
SDs will start questioning the Clinton
Especially if Obama wins North Carolina by a landslide

Posted by: Vanessa | April 11, 2008, 2:50 pm 2:50 pm

svsolis – current projections for Puerto Rico are for Clinton but it is too early to tell. But Peurto Rico is not a state so it doesnt fit into the electability argument that superdelegates will have to consider.

If Clinton does win PA by a landslide, is the converse true: SDs will start questioning Obama?
I don’t agree with your analysis, but I really do appreciate you putting forth your thought process.
The fact is that she will not close the gap in pledged delegates. But the margin by which Obama leads will continue to shrink.
By the way, Obama shows that he won Texas on his website…the claim being that he won more delegates.

Clinton was expected to win by a landslide
PA demographics says she should win by a landslide
SDs won’t question Obama b/c he was never in favor of winning PA
If Hillary doesn’t win by a landslide
Obama will make it up in NC
Don’t forget
Obama won the Texas caucus and recieved more delegates
He has the right

Posted by: Vanessa | April 11, 2008, 3:07 pm 3:07 pm

The TX caucuses are currently under investigation so dont bet on Obama’s claims being a final count. The TX SOS said Clinton won TX based on the primary because the caucus voters were a small subset of the primary voters. Delegates apportioned based on the primaries are not in question which gives Clinton TX by delegates also.
Regarding the Limbaugh effect: Analysts have already determined it was insignificant and actually was in Obama’s favor.
“In the Democratic primaries overall, fewer than 5 percent of voters said they were Republicans. And that five percent voted for Barack Obama 53 percent to 39 percent over Hillary Clinton – which is very much like the votes of self-identified independents, who split 55 percent for Obama, 39 percent for Clinton.”
So Clinton’s win in TX was even more significant than it appears and the caucus results may have been skewed by the cheating by Obama supporters and/or republicans who are anti-Clinton regardless of Rush’s and Ingraham’s wishes.

Vanessa,
As always, from your viewpoint, Obama has a commanding lead, there’s no stopping him, Hillary should just give up, blah, blah, blah. Given those “facts”, isn’t your blogging rather useless? Shouldn’t you give up the blogging? It’s clear from your statements that Obama will win without a bit of contribution by you, so your contribution is essentially a waste of time.
So gets to another point, why should anybody even listen to you for a moment since you are willing to invest in totally wasting your time? Aren’t you a classic Gen X’r? Your time may be better spent perfecting some X-box game tactics somewhere, don’t you think?

Vanessa – *sigh* I know you are trying to look at the numbers but they are more than what you are seeing. Reread the exit poll results posted in the previous entry and you will see the numbers indicate most Republicans voted for Obama not Clinton.
Also, Clinton has Republican supporters… specifically females and some white males that are reagan democrats. I suspect she has more female Republicans because the female Republican voting bloc has been MIA from the Republican primaries in every state. This is not being covered much in the MSM of course since it would reflect poorly on Obama.

To all the Obama whiners who want Hillary out of the race: had Obama had the strength to defeat Hillary in the BIG states of CA, OH, TX, NY, NJ, FL, etc. Obama could have reached the 2,025 delegates he needs to secure the nomination and Hillary would have had to end her campaign just as Huckabee did on the GOP side.
BUT instead Hillary WON CA, OH, NV, NM, TX, AR, FL, TN, NH, NM, NY, NJ, MA, (Sorry Teddy!), RI, etc. So why would or should someone who has won 49% of the popular vote and more than 49 % of the delegates drop out so that someone who was too weak to beat her can secure the nomination?
Get real – this race is going to go on and PA, WV, IN, KY and PR are likely to join the list of Hillary’s victories!

I’ve basically been harassed and called names by approximately 99% of them, and have seen little evidence of use of real facts to support their position. LOL Dogsoldier… CNN’s numbers tend to be skewed but they had the 53% part right. They just failed to use the actual 39% for Clinton and simply subtracted. This skews perceptions in Obama’s favor of course by implying more Republicans voted for Clinton than actually did. I posted the Math for other posters who seem to be having trouble understanding it… no disrespect meant :)

When Obama outspends Clinton by 5:1 in some areas and still can’t win at similar ration, it shows that he still has some big issues.
Even if Obama wins the nomination because of the party leaders are willing to rig the election by bullying Clinton out of th e race, he will loose the general election because of his relationships with Wright and other anti-American radicals.

DCVoter: I always enjoy your posts on this and other blogs, and look forward to reading more of them. With that said, I want to point out a few things about an earlier post you wrote to Vanessa. Perhaps I can explicate, at least in part, why some women (Obama supporters and some female media personalities) disparage Hillary. As you pointed out, some women do work to subordinate and subjugate members of their own gender. In some cases, it’s a mechanism to remain an exception to the rule, such as the queen-bee syndrome. In other instances, some women actually engage in discriminative behaviors to malign or injure other women for reasons that aren’t as obvious. Many of these women are not dissimilar to the oppressed black man that subjugates his female partner. One would consider his behavior illogical given that he has been oppressed himself, and should therefore know better than to oppress someone else. The reality is that oppression is the foundation of human existence; it’s ingrained in our collective modus opperanda. Oppression is the oldest archetypal performance in human history, and while men are typically the oppressors, women can also execute the deed. One reason is socialization. From antiquity, women were socialized to distrust each other and to compete for men as their primary means of financial support. While securing a man for financial sustenance is no longer a necessity for most contemporary women, the socialized distain for other women is still there. In short, some women dislike strong, competent, and smart women. They especially loathe women who are ambitious, opinionated, strong-willed, and outspoken. These are behaviors ascribed to a man, but even today, still frowned upon in women. Hillary can be characterized by all of these adjectives, and more. She epitomizes typical male attributes, and is branded a “monster.” She’s also feminine, and as such is commonly referred to as “shillary,” by her detractors, among other pejoratives. She’s in a classic catch 22, also known as a double-bind. No matter how she behaves, she’s a monster or a shillary. For both men and women who can’t or won’t see beyond gender roles, she will always be demonized. For the rest of us, she’s just a strong, capable, and dedicated public servant, who is unrivaled as the best presidential candidate we’ve had in years.

crisis – On that topic, Obama has been talking out of both sides of his mouth again regarding gay rights. He stated he does not support dont ask dont tell and would consider repealing it but then also states he will NOT require his joint chiefs to allow gays to serve openly in the military. The end effect would be to implement the same discriminatory policies that were in place prior to dont ask dont tell. Senator Clinton at least understands it was a stepping stone that would give the military leaders the opportunity to prevent discrimination but they chose to use it to continue the status quo. She remains strong in her support of humanitarian rights in the interest of the people and in the interest of the country. Obama panders to the GLBT community to get their vote then refuses to be interviewed locally or photographed with GLBT leaders. Now he abandons them because he couldnt win after pandering to them. I surely hope the GLBT that abandoned Clinton for empty words of hope return to Clinton en masse and shout loud and proud.

This time, I disagree with you. I think gender and racial issues are important in this campaign and on this blog. NP Emily and yes crisis, I think the majority of Clinton supporters are humanitarians who believe in human rights and equality for all. Unfortunately, it is tough to hold a majority but we are very close! We have to keep educating others because communication in this election is viral and every entry we make could have an impact on someone who has not voted yet.

DC Voter
Your analysis of Texas is correct…I am from Dallas…the majority of metroplex voters did vote Obama here…and more than a few I know are Republican. Hillary won all of rural Texas by wide margins….She took some cities (like San Antonio) but Dallas-Ft Worth went Obama with the help of Republicans that will vote McCain in Nov.
