Truthiness and Consequences: Clinton, Obama on ‘Colbert’

ABC News’ Eloise Harper and Sunlen Miller report: The Democratic presidential race took a comical turn as both top candidates taped appearances on Comedy Central’s "Colbert Report" Thursday evening.

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., made her first appearance on the show by coming to host Stephen Colbert’s rescue. Her appearance was followed by Sen. Barack Obama’s, D-Ill., debut appearance — via a remote interview from Greenville, N.C.

Before heading on stage, Clinton spoke backstage with her and Obama’s former opponent, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, who also was a guest on the show. No details on the conversation were provided.

The skit began at the top of the show when Colbert’s monitor went to a test signal and he complained to his control room.

"What happened, Jimmy; Jimmy the rear projector just went down, the screen’s down, Jimmy where’s my liberty bell?" he said.

Jimmy told Colbert that there is nobody to fix the screen and that all the technicians are in New York.

Colbert shouted out in frustration, "Are you telling me there’s no one in this theatre who can fix the mess we’re in?"

Ta-da!

Clinton then appeared on the stage, saying, "I can. I can, Stephen."

The Democratic presidential hopeful then began a very technical conversation with Jimmy, and attempted to fix the screen. Clinton asked a series of questions until she suggested, finally, that Jimmy "try toggling the input."

Miraculously, the screen got restored and the audience applauded.

Clinton then turned to Colbert and suggested that he get a touch up.

"You know what Stephen," she said. "Your forehead is a little bit shiny. Make-up, make-up, can we get some translucent powder, please?"

Colbert responded, "Wow, Sen. Clinton. You are so prepared for any situation. I just don’t know how to thank you enough."

Clinton told Colbert that she loves solving problems, and that he could even call her at 3 a.m.

Colbert thanked Clinton and finishes by saying, "I am going to call her at 3 a.m. I’m sure she left her cell phone number."

In his segment, Obama evidently referenced what he earlier Thursday described as "gotcha politics" of Wednesday’s Democratic debate as well as Clinton’s ‘Colbert’ appearance.

"Sen. Obama!" Colbert exclaimed. "Won’t Sen. Clinton be happy that she fixed our screen?"

"I think the American people are tired of these political games and petty distractions," Obama said.

Then Obama called for such "political distractions" to be put "on notice" — a staple on Colbert’s show involving a list of people and things that are to be watched out for.

Colbert answered, "I have to warn you, I probably don’t have a card for distractions. … Let’s see: Dimetapp, Dionne Warwick, Deion Sanders, Dion Comma Celine, dirigibles. …

"Aha!" he said. "Distractions" — ultimately finding a proper card to put on the board.

Obama told Colbert to take James Brady off the "on notice" list to replace it with his choice.

"Manufactured political distractions, you are officially on notice," Obama concluded.

While this was Obama’s first appearance on the show, his wife made an appearance on the show on Tuesday night from Pennsylvania — after he originally turned down an invitation to appear.

No woman should look up to Hillary. Should took Bill Jefferson Clinton back just for her own political ambition.
Is it any wonder why Chelsea is still single? She probably can’t trust men after seeing what B.J. Clinton did to her mother.

Ha! That was cute. Hillary needs all the help she can get to attract the audience that watches Colbert–lots of college students, educated young twenty-somethings and professionals. Too bad Hillary’s true colors and lies are making her less appealing as a candidate every day. Sorry, a Colbert appearance won’t fix the damage she’s already done to herself.

Obama supporters seem to be so hateful. Enough to scare the dickens out of anyone.
We supported Obama until we learned about his 20 yr. trip with a racist preacher.
The media seems to want Obama to run against McCain. Only way McCain can take office.
You can bet McCain’s people are watching the hatefulness of Obama supporters on all these websites.
It will be part of their rebuke in the gen. election.
Who wants a hateful bunch of bigots in the White House?

Hillary
You have got to be kidding. If Barack wanted to go after all the dirty hands that the Clintons have touched a two hour debate wouldn’t be long enough. Last night was an poor use of our first amendment and a damaging night for the ABC News Team. Having seen as many debates as I have, it was an obvious setup. The pundents want this race to go on for the ratings. The outcome is already set, get used to the idea, it will be Barack Obama as the nominee. He has played by the rules, which a Clinton has no idea of such things.

McCain misspeaks, Obama tries to figure out what he “actually meant” and Hillary lies? The people who don’t have brains enough to think for themselves have to let the media think for them. What about Obamas add, only takes small donations, running while he is in SF at fundraisers at $2,500.00 a person? Don’t know about you but I am not elite enough to think that $2,500.00 is the same as $5.00. Hillary is the only one that can pull us out of the mess that Bush has put us in. Obama has set civil rights back 30 years. And HE is going to pull this country together?

Now the Clintonistas are telling superdelegate women that they have to vote for HRC because she is the only chance they will get to elect a woman.
That’s a lie. No one knows how much her candidacy will set back women in politics, but if we can actually consider the issues maybe a decent human who is a woman, will be realistic candidate later. The Clintons have reached the horror moment, when they are now behind even in Indiana and no one will support them if they lose Indiana.
So they are trying to get supers to commit now, before the train wrecks. To do so on the basis that ONLY HRC could be a woman to win, is so much nonsense, I pray that women the country wide will vote against her on this basis alone. There are many brilliant, kind, wise, women and some of them will be candidates for high office as long as this race does not become a matter of prejudice.
I think the Senators from Missouri and California *Boxer are both women I would like to see as VP or President. HRC is not the only woman who could be in high office. She is just the only person that thinks she is the only person who could be in high office. Stop this now and commit to Obama, all you supers. What a low pitch of desparation. Sad, really. How low the mighty are taken down by their desire for power.
This is like saying Geraldine Ferraro speaks for Clinton and that they both actually think that people are only for Obama because of his color.
I am not black or a Christian and I support him because he is bright and is the only candidate who says he will restore the Constitution, our right to be charged with a crime before Condi and McSame can waterboard you.

Thank heavens Hillary has a sense of humor. Her opponent and his supporters certainly don’t. It’s not surprising that Obama isn’t laughing because his surrogates, such as Rev. Wright and Bill “the bomber” Ayers, are not remotely funny. The racist Wright is going to be living in the lap of luxury in a one Million dollar home Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC) has purchased for him in Tinley Park, IL. Here’s the punch line, the mansion is in an exclusive gated community, has a 10 Million dollar line of credit attached to the home, and the community residents are 93 percent white.
I guess “God Damn America” has provided well for Rev. Wright. He should feel right at home living among the affluent white folks he despises. Nothing like a little hypocrisy.

Poor Obamaniacs…nothing else to do with their pathetic lives but clog up the blogosphere with paeans to the Obamessiah even when the blog has nothing to do with him. It is the self-absorption of the candidate that must attract similarly predisposed lemmings….
At least Senator Scrappy McPantsuit seems to have a real sense of humour…and one that encompasses self mocking.
(BTW…why was he brushing dandruff off his shoulders in NC this afternoon? Hasn’t his stylist told him about H&S?)

The media is holding back the maturity of the American people. This debate shows ABC’s lack of evolving debates. 52 minutes on Rove tatics on both candidates. I am outraged. Stick to the need’s of the American people. Not the unintelligent debate we got.

Posted by: Tina | April 17, 2008, 9:53 pm 9:53 pm

Bishop. the PPP poll for Pa has Obama leading by 2% and they interview more people than the poll you quoted.
There are several polls for Pa, none are infallible.
HRC is telling women superdelegates she is the only chance for a woman to win high office. I feel it is the opposite. If she gets out soon enough, many wonderful women candidates will have a chance in the future. She has too high an opinion of herself.
She is not the last, best hope for women.
She doesnt know how to run a caucus, which we will soon see in the west, after she loses in NC and Indiana. She is on a two loss streak again, having lost Mississippi and the Tex caucus.

Good job Hillary, nice to have some comic relief this week.
Fixing the problems in the White House is a more daunting task to be sure, but you clearly have what it takes to get the job done.
Go Hillary!

Two famous right wing preachers (incuding Hagee of Tex) have already said the God has already damned America and they both support McSame. Or doesnt that actually count?
The people who choose to support a candidate are not the candidate.
I for one agree with the Rev Wright. 9-11 was indeed OUR CHICKENS COME HOME TO ROOST.
Or do you pretend to forget that it was done by the Obama bin Laudin brigage, trained by your CIA and your tax dollars at work. That’s your chickens, come home to roost. Do you approve of that?
Some people have the courage to speak out against the CIA and its predatory self serving actions.
No WMDs. Just a trillion dollar war.
Now you dont have the right to be charged with a crime before Condi and McSame can waterboard you.

ABC moderator worked for the Clintons.
He wasnt trying to get to the issues.
He was part of the Clintonista team, bent on trivializing the election, not to discuss how the WTO is overwhelming our economy, or how to make health care affordable.
Why is there a shortage of doctors?
Why cant we have 20 new medical schools run by the National Institutes of Health?
Because it is an intentional shortage to drive up the income of the MD field.

Have often wondered why all of the Obama supporters are screaming over last nights debate. Not all of us have felt that Obama has adequately answered these questions that were asked last night. Have also wondered why his supporters are so negative and abusive about anyone who doesn’t support their candidate. The rest of the country is NOT required to agree with your blind adoration of Senator Obama.

Posted by: 2old2smart | April 17, 2008, 10:04 pm 10:04 pm

check out Joan Vennochi in today’s Boston Globe..the gist of it is…Kerry, Kennedy and Deval Patrick met with Massachusetts women who support HRC and want the superdelegates to find a way to count the votes in M and F..”The men, all Obama supporters in a state that went for HRC on primary day-said they believed in fairness, but not, necessarily, in counting votes in other states when Clinton claims victory”…they said they would be willing to talk to Dean but not to take their cause public,…these guys are in HUGE trouble in Massachusetts…Female voters are a very powerful force in Ma. None of these guys would have won without them and believe me, the girls are pissed and dissed!, So, Bruce..save your platitudes about “maybe a decent, kind woman later”..it’s condesending and patronizing and more evidence that sexism is alive and well in American discourse…

Hillary is great! She has a wonderful sense of humor. It shows all the time – in debates, in conversations.
Why is Obama so glum and angry all the time?? Always the blame game – no substance when he talks – only a truckload of NONSENSE.

Posted by: Jkan | April 17, 2008, 10:12 pm 10:12 pm

I just looked at the two most current Penn polls.
In one Clinton lead by 1%. That was taken today after the debate.
In the other Obama led by 3% before the debate.
In either case, the results are within the margin of guesswork, based on interviewing less than thousands of people in each area of the state, which no one does.
So the tall tale that HRC is going to win Penn is just a spin. In real life, no one knows who will win.
It is too close to call.

Interesting that Obama only agreed to appear after Hillary had signed on. Another instance of “me, tooism”. Only a person who’s comfortable in their own skin can pull off a humorous situation as Clinton does.
The ‘authentic’ Obama is too wary and anything but authentic.

Thank you Charlie Gibson & George for a great debate. Obama’s supporters are sore losers. Finally, Obama’s mask has been removed.
I realize that both of you have been vilified by the bias media and Obama’s surrogates. You performed a great service to the country by exposing this unqualified candidate.
The job of the Presidency is too important to hand it to an unknown. I blog on the Atlantic website, and some of their reporters such as Ambinder and Matt are defending you. I was really surprised that James Fallows has become an Obama hack.
One more thing, Jake Tapper should be fired. He is such a bias reporter. ABC News deserves better.

So, Bruce..save your platitudes about “maybe a decent, kind woman later”..it’s condesending and patronizing and more evidence that sexism is alive and well in American discourse…
Ok, so a ballsy viscous woman who has yet to make her interest in high office known, can also win the Presidency. It doesnt matter whether the next female candidate is sweet or mean, the point is that HRC is just one of many possible female candidates and I prefer two others to her, besides not liking the fact that she never speaks about restoring habeus corpus or her husband’s unConstitutional practice of signing statements. Her surrogates appeal to vote for her because it the last chance is nonsense, isnt it? Do you actually agree with her?
I think there are better candidates among women Senators.

Posted by: bruce becker | April 17, 2008, 10:19 pm 10:19 pm

Bruce Becker: yeah, I’m waiting to see the Democratic Party jump aboard the “caucus” express! Caucuses are for those states that typically vote republican – meaning they don’t matter. If there is any real indication that a state can be moved into the Democratic column – and it’s big enough, you won’t be able to spell “primary” fast enough.

So per usual, her experience is based on shaky grounds, and then she continuously embellishes her credentials, to the point of making stuff up, its amazing that women can still support her after these lies, can’t they rise above their gender??

Her usual stories always go like this: When I was little girl in a small town …………. blah, blah, blah, blah Hillary. When I was a little white girl in the same situation ………… blah, blah, blah Hillary. When I was a little white girl in the same situation ………… and Bill was dipping a cigar in Monica’s you know what and licking and smelling it ………. blah, blah, blah Hillary. Oh Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Hillary NOT again! Cut it out will ya!

Man, oh, man. So much hate from both sides. The video tape in question was shot by the media – so if is such a huge deal, why isn’t all over the media? Simple. Taken from a different angle – one sees a much different view and no problem – Senator Obama had two fingers up at the same time. GEEZ! Have you people never seen things only to find out later, it was not really what you saw! Optical illusions have been a part of everyone’s visual experience.
ABC is owned and operated by Disney. Disney has been a large donor to the Clinton campaign. Disney puts money on Dems, Clinton.
http://blogs.reuters.com/mediafile/2008/02/27/disney-puts-money-on-dems-clinton/ So, if people are complaining that the debate was slanted, they have firm ground to stand on.
If you are honest with yourselves you wll come to the conclusion that neither candidate won the debate last night. No winners, only losers – the American voting public.

Why is that supporters of Clinton keep on saying that Obama is ‘hateful’, ‘he whines’, he’s not going to make it, and so forth ?
As far I’ve read/seen (and I do try to keep myself updated), he’s the one who brings sanity to every situation where it has been blown out of proportions, either by the Clinton camp or the media. He tackles every question with practicality and logic. He answers (mostly) to the point. He doesn’t take digs at Clinton. Why, even last night, when he compared Clinton’s cookies’ comments, he didn’t make it sound derogatory or ‘elitist’. Instead he made a point that comments taken out of context can be conjured up to showcase anything. Specially falsehoods. And frankly, if the President of the United States is not an ‘elitist’ position, I can’t fathom what is !
Has Clinton ever let go of any chance to take digs at Obama ? I don’t think so. Not even last night.
And Rocky ? Before the beginning of the primaries and caucuses, before Iowa and New Hampshire, does anyone remember how far Obama was behind Clinton ? Did anyone realistically think that he’d be such a pain in the a$$ for Clinton ? And now he’s in front! That hurts, doesn’t it ?!
I’ve got nothing against Clinton. And McCain. But Obama is so clearly the front runner. If only people opened their eyes, and looked at issues without prejudice and blind faith.

Hillary is the most electable one.
She has honor and honesty and sincerity on her side.
It took a Strong Person to apologize. She won my respect for that. To me that makes her the most trustworthy candidate the democratic party has.
Obama on the other hand, Lies through his teeth, to the American people at a rapid rate. He will Never take responsibility and never Apologize for anything. Even for major Lies or Insults to the American people.
He started on day one being the meanest
nastiest candidate. Slinging mud, lies and blames and insults at anyone. He knows it and continues. His staff, his youth, and himself have worked overtime, trying to dig up something to use against Hillary to force her out of the race, only way he won. As he did in Illinois and for the senate seat. He has failed at that miserably also.
The debate last night showed a peek at the side of him he has been hiding away from the American people. There is more to his dark side he will do anything to keep from exposing, before the convention. The republicans will bring that out, but it will be to late for the democratic party then.

Obama picked up an Oklahoma superdelegate, add-on Reggie Whitten. Clinton now leads in superdelegates 257-235. Since Sunday, Obama has picked up five supers to Clinton’s zero. With his three elected superdelegate pick-ups yesterday, Obama has moved past Clinton among the group (U.S. Senators, Reps and governors): 96-94. In the overall count now, Obama leads by 142 (1,651-1,509). He has a 164 pledged-delegate lead (1,416-1,252).

Hillary was GREAT on Colbert tonight. No mixing of politics with comedy, nor did she use the show to advance her political ambitions. Barack, on the other hand, changed his mind, decided to go on the show [his sense of humor is terrible-so I can understand why] in order to “manufacturer” his new mind-control talking point – “manufactured political distractions are officially put on notice” . Really Mr. Obama? The PA voters “manufactured” your elitist and condescending comments toward blue collar voters? Gee, I thought that YOU were the manufacturing plant that churned that BS out. And after the ‘debate’ last night, many of Senator Obama’s supporters were donating money to his campaugn like crazy. They were pissed and lined Senator Obama’s coiffers even more. NIcholas -
If you read or listen the ‘large’states are not the factor in the GE, but the electoral college. Senator Obama will take the large states that normally vote Democratic and pull a few surprises as well. He has more grassroots support then the Hillary people give him credit for – evident by how he has closed huge gaps in many states where Hillary was projected to win. She may still win PA but will not pull any more delegates out then Senator Obama. From watching the polls in PA and the endorsements Senator Obama has received from the major newspapers there plus the Scranton newspaper – Hillary’s childhood home – Senator is doing very well. Even the Pittsburg Steelers are getting in on the act – putting together many blitzes for Senator Obama. He has also begun to pull together huge support bases in Pittsburg and Philadelphia. Senator Bill Casey’s support has been a huge boon to Senator Obama.

Just don’t understand why mud has to slung – even here! Why is Obama ‘a moslem’, ‘a terrorist’ (incredible, isn’t it ? what a US presidential incumbent has to face from his countrymen !! makes me wonder why I’m even bothering to comment) and Clinton ‘a liar’ ..well, pretty much that :)
Whoever brought up that Obama hasn’t won in the big states, and how he’ll be crushed there by the Reps in the General Elections. Question :
By which theory of induction do you conclude that since Clinton has won there, Obama won’t ever win ? Even against a different opponent ? The theory of induction of stupidity ?

Andre – Obama IS the enemy, as far as I am concerned, so go ahead and throw up. I do plan to vote for McCain if Hillary does not get the nomination. Apparently, you think the rest of us should care what you think. I don’t. So get over yourself. Your opinion is not as important as you think.

I am still on the fence. Mc Cain has to make his case. He needs to move to the middle more. He has a very liberal record for a republican, and lets face it, I trust the guy.
If he can make the case, I will vote for Mc Cain. If not, I will write in Hillarys name on the ballot.
I will NEVER vote for Barack Obama. Regardless if Hillary and Bill do the old suck up at the convention.

tomdavie – so bringing home our soldiers in body bags is okay with you -or having them maimed so horribly physically and mentally that they wil never live a normal life – McCain’s philosopy as well as Hillary’s. Did you not hear Hillary’s remarks last night about her ‘solutions’ for the Middle East? Since when do we have to be the saviors of the world? Our own ecomony is in the sewer, our young people are dying, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great grandchilren will be paying off the Iraq War for generations to come – a war we should never have had involved in in the first place.

Doug I gotta tell you have no idea why Hillary is in her marriage. Obama doesn’t like hard questions…the thing is his smear and run politics is the least hopeful thing I have ever seen.
The hypocrisy and anger is exactly what his campaign is all about. I see it in people like you when you vent your rage in places like this.

Also, the Democrat Party is not exactly representing me or a lot of others. Obama, I feel is not qualified for all the reasons you have seen posted in these blogs. I could care less that he is black – I’m black too. I feel so strongly about how unqualified he is that I have no problem throwing my support to McCain. My loyalty is to my country, not to the Democrat Party.

Be careful who you idolized…Hillary Rodham Clinton seemingly is a pathological liar. She easily adjust her words and/or sentences to make herself look and/or feel good for a ardent purpose. OTHERWORDS, SHE WILL DO OR SAY ANTHING AT ANYONES EXPENSE TO GET AND/OR HAVE HER WAY! EVEN IF IT MEANS DESTROYING ANYTHING OR ANYONE IN HER WAY!
What mother would put her child in “sniper fire”? Yet she questioned Sen. Obama for keeping his relationship with Rev. Wright, when she didn’t fire Mark Penn for supposedly going behind her back to push for the Colombia trade deal…GO FIGURE! DOUBLE-TALK…WINK…WINK AND A NOD! The Clintons as usual.

Right on, LeeLee07! You are the ONLY who I’ve seen who feels like me: I vote for the issues (including the experience/character/morals/patriotism of the candidate) and NOT for the party.
I’m a republican and my choice was Mitt Romney; I feel like McCain is a traitor to how we conservative republicans feel. Anyway, if the race boiled down to Hillary and McCain – I wasn’t going to vote in November, since – in my opinion, some of their ideas (or ‘agendas’ – whatever you want to call them) are about the same (and I was mad at how McCain played dirty against Romney), so I would be o.k. with either one of them being our president. BUT, if it came down to OBAMA and McCain – I would then DEFINITELY VOTE – for McCain.
BTW, I’m going to vote for Hillary in my May 6th primary to STOP Obama.
Obama and his supporters are downright hostile and EXTREMELY degrading towards Hillary and that makes me sick; whether or not they support her, there is NO reason to be so mean and cruel and especially talk about her daughter or her husband messing around on her (THAT wasn’t Hillary’s fault – and if she decided to stay with him and remain faithful to her marriage vows, then THAT’S a GOOD thing but people want to vilify her!) I don’t know about all her other baggage but I don’t think she’s anti-American, like I think Obama is. I hope you democrats DO form a coalition of Hillary supporters who WILL NOT VOTE for Obama if he’s the nominee.

Obama is evil
He lies so much he gets confused when asked a question, because he can’t remember which lie he used last.
He gets that puzzled look like he did at the debate.
I see the PR guy his camp got to go to TUCC has cleaned up the site. What other services did they do. *cough* charity donation huh?
I guess he owed them then, since TUCC and UCC is more of a Political organization and a front as a church.
All those Campaign speeches he has done at all the churches across America. They all new it was against non-profit regulations, but they did it anyhow.
I see they are pushing for Israel to lay down their guns and tear down their wall. But have no demands on Palestine or Hammas. That sounds like peace with a punch. Why does all of UCC hate the Jews?
I see Rev Wrights retirement home is a mansion, How much is he getting as retirement benefits $300,000,000 a year?

How about that lobbyist money, the earmarks still special project your wifes hospital?

Obama is some one who is really ruthless he is arrogant and I can’t believe his ties to people who caused this country alot of pain in the late sixty’s and early seventy’s thier are to many questions to ask and no answers Is this some kind of fourty year plan taking place? And I’m sorry but he gets really pissed just like Bush if you dare to ask him something he thinks he does not need to answer. The black panthers and the weatherman caused big riots in this country we need answers they worked together the media ned to work on the answer .And like in the seventy’s it all came out of chicago.IMO thier is something more to this left of the left.

For Sen. Obama, the voters just listen to what he’ve said, not what he’ve done.
If he could not answer the voters’ questions, he’ll get mad and tell voters ” Do not distract, focus on what he’ve said”. Like fathers told to their kids.

Posted by: Allison | April 18, 2008, 8:42 am 8:42 am

The one thing that annoyed me in that debate is when he was pressed to answer some of those questions, he blew it off as dirty politics and silly. I don’t find any of what they asked silly. I want to know just who and what this man believes in.

I didn’t see the Colbert report last night, however I do have some responses to some of these hateful, nasty posts of course directed at Hillary. I think Obama supporters are probably the most hateful immature bunch I’ve ever seen. Obama can’t run with the big dogs, gets irritated when he has to answer a question he doesn’t like and thinks what the American people truly want to know is nothing more than a mere “distraction.” Looking into one’s character should never be considered a “distraction.” I don’t trust him. Hillary may make up some stories about sniper fire and the like (just like Obama has made up some whoppers and so has about every politician out there), but you just don’t see Hillary tied to any criminals, terrorists, racist reverends or the like and then denying she knows them or anything about them or thinks like them. Fact is, I wouldn’t have sat in Wright’s church any longer than Hillary had my pastor come out after 9-11 and blamed the US. I guess we forgot about all those people that died already. I’m appalled. He tells big sweeping lies to try to cover his tracks when it’s way too easy to find out otherwise. He’s the exact definition of a fraud. And these are big deals, not just sniper fire on a trip to Bosnia either. Then he blames everyone else and whines when he has to answer hard questions. That’s a sign of someone that doesn’t want to deal with the truth cause he’s not man enough to handle it. I’m tired of looking at his ignorant, arrogant self. He claims this idea of new politics- he doesn’t come out and fight for himself- he has all of his cronies and campaign people come out and do it for him. He has been ripping on Hillary from the beginning- tearing into her- questioning her integrity, calling her old politics and divisive and polarizing, among some other more negative things. Like he’s above this fray and he’s not participating in such nonsense. Please. He’s worse than Hillary ever was. At least she’s woman enough to do the crap herself. His supporters and campaign people have been downright nasty to Hillary Clinton and it’s disrespectful at the very least and appalling to anyone watching it. For once on ABC he got a little taste of what will happen to him in the general election and also the taste of some of his own bitter medicine. If this is all he’s got, then John McCain will certainly win. I’m appalled at the democratic party this year.

I have an idea that might catch on and get the left wing liberal media and strongarming left wing liberals who run the DNC’s attention:
Do as I have done, support the person, not the party, as an Independent registered voter.
Change your voter registration from Democrat to Independent after the primary in your state!!!
Disenfranchised in Florida
P.S. Notes to:
Those bashing strong women; please go to the dictionary and look up the word
MYSOGNINISTIC;it would be hilarious if the strong women in American went on sexual strike with their husbands or significant others. And just remember the old adage, “If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!”
Perhaps Obama is not UNELECTABLE because he is black or because he is a man – but because he is GREEN!

Dear Ellie,
Perhaps you mispoke or maybe you misread your own post. I did not say Hillary had ever been convicted of wrong doing.
You wrote, and I quote “but you just don’t see Hillary tied to any criminals…”
I proved that to be untrue.

Posted by: DMWhipp | April 18, 2008, 11:25 am 11:25 am

Monetary scandals, and trying to dig and find crap that doesn’t exist is nothing new in politics and I’m sure you’ll find many other politicians going through a lot of those very same things. I’ve read quite a few books about watergate and I’ve read right wing conspiracy books against Hillary Clinton, etc etc, but there is nothing there. There have literally been investigation after investigation and no one can tie her to anything. Period. As for the junk you just listed, there are literally thousands of cases you can make against any politicians regarding monetary, fund raising issues, and the people they are tied to that do sneaky stuff- INCLUDING BARACK OBAMA. But you don’t see her or Bill tied to racist reverends or underground terrorists- not in the same ways that Barack Obama is. I don’t even care about the Rezco situation and I’ve never used it as an argument because I think it’s irrelevent. No one cares much about that stuff or most politicians wouldn’t be where they are. I think his ties to certain other types of people are what make Barack Obama a bad candidate with poor judgement. Not only that but he’s full of fluff and nonsense and he’s just not believable at all to me.

Has anyone noticed that Obama only speaks well and acts like a so called “leader” when he is surrounded by his supporters. On the Colbert show, Hillary came out on stage and did her thing. She didn’t have a big sign behind her, no bleachers full of “Yes, we can” men/women. But Obama did. He is all show. He acts like a preacher in a church when he gets in front of people. Preaching about people, calling them all kinds of names, acting all tough. But he is a wimp in person!!

Being a woman myself, as I stated in my first post, hatred of women is not my issue with Hillary.
Forget everything I said in all of my previous posts.
I am voting for Obama purely because I cannot stand the thought of 4 years of pantsuits and Goo Goo Dolls, Fall Out Boy and Bruce Springsteen all like him – so Obama rocks!

She should be embarrassed by her actions.

I am a white, 62 year old, male, from Texas, former small business owner, and now former Republican. I am also a member of various organizations in Houston Texas, one of which has over 6000 members in the computer industry in Houston. Many members of this organization, including myself, are now supporting Senator Obama. One of the major factors in our decision to support Senator Obama, has been the incessant, non-stop, rhetoric and spin fomented by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, others similar, and their followers; many of whom, seem to be content in perpetuating and posting on a daily basis, the useless and non-factual diatribe obviously intended to influence decisions by Americans who either don’t have the time, don’t take the time, or perhaps lack the intelligence, to make informed decisions regarding the Presidential race, based on actual facts. For Limbaugh, Hannity, and their lackeys, I, along with many others, thank you, for your daily bombardment of the airwaves and media with your useless discourse. Why do I thank you? Because many of us who do have a mind of our own, have realized the daily spin and rhetoric of which you seem intent on continually perpetuating, and bombarding Americans with, are not solutions that are going to come anywhere near correcting today’s problems many American’s face. You have helped many of us in that regard, to take the time to research deeply, the records and policies of the one woman, and two men, still vying for leadership of our great nation. Myself, along with many others, have spent many months digging into government archives, both state and federal, news account archives, present day legislation and more. To summarize after many hours of scrutiny, Barack Obama emerges as the only viable candidate having the fortitude, vision, and intelligence, to direct this nation back to a course of viability and dominant world power. His previous records and present day legislation reflect a degree of intelligence and comprehension of solving problems that has been lacking in our government structure for the past several decades. Senator Clinton and Senator McCain for many reasons, have not measured up to, nor met the same scrutiny. There are many reasons why, and too many to post in this space. Americans, wake up!!

May we all remember…politicians are HUMAN. We all have mis-spoken; we have all made mistakes.
When Clinton (Bill) lied, NOBODY DIED! The real problem is that Bush first became president falsely, with the help of the Supreme Court, not most Americans! Bush and Cheyney have committed outrageous acts of lying that has cost Americans’ lives. Outing a CIA spy and lying about Iraq having WMD should be impeachable offenses.
Obama voted for the Bush/Cheyney energy plan. Is that helping our Planet and our Economy? His mailers say he is for Universal health coverage – but his plan does not cover everyone. Aren’t they lies? And why is Obama allowed to play the martyr when the going gets rough? Is that presidential? Why is Hillary judged by such different standards? And furthermore, we were MUCH BETTER OFF under Bill Clinton! What’s wrong with a fed govt surplus?? What’s with ending Welfare as we knew it to be?
Hillary’s tough, smart, open-minded, surrounds herself with the best and the brightest, has a track record of SOLVING PROBLEMS even with REPUBLICANS. She is the best candidate to take us back on the right track!!!

LeeLee, it seems your gender has completely blinded you to the shortcomings of your candidate. How do you explain the made up stories about Bosnia, which are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the made up and embellished things she has repeatedly said over the past year. No one noticed when she was the frontrunner, but now its pretty clear that much of her vaunted “experience” is largely a figment of her imagination. Its really sad that women have to cling to the idea of Hillary being some sort of saviour for women, there are MANY other better qualified female candidates who aren’t maniacally ambitious, willing to stoop to anything, and who don’t make up stories willy nilly to suit their audience. Its really amazing how blinded women are on this, its only the really thoughtful ones, like Amy Kloubacher, who can see the reality of the situation….

Posted by: Richard | April 18, 2008, 9:25 pm 9:25 pm

I think all the nastiness on both sides should stop. I was a Hillary supporter one year ago but the simple equation since then has been: the more I see of her, the less I like, and the more I see of Obama the more I like. However, I don’t hate HRC. Its like being a Christian, hate the sin, not the sinner….and all this talk about not voting for one of them if the other wins, this is lunacy, which seems to be coming more from the Clinton supporters. If this is their attitude then it merely confirms what some have known all along, its not about whats best for the country, i.e. electing a democrat, its all about Hillary or electing a woman. If this is the attitude of Hillary supporters then fine, stay home, we will win the election without you and you will have no say in a historic transition in this country. Play this childish game, and you lose, in many ways…

Sen. Hillary Clinton not only have a good sense of humor, her intelligence is clear unlike the Senator from Illinois. Sen. Clinton, unlike Sen. Barak Obama is not afraid to apologize or be held accountable.
Sen. Obama has already revealed that he is too much like President Bush and Obama’s campaign manager is just like VP Chaney. I guess because Obama is related to Cheney, Obama’s campaign managers feels that he is free to follow in the same manner. As for Obama’s campaign committee, clearly they have become the “Obama mafia”. They will do and say anything and Sen. Obama has said it repeatedly that he is not responsible for their actions. Like Bush, as president, Obama will not be responsible for his actions.
