Clinton Argues That Obama Can’t Beat McCain

ABC News’ Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton held a fundraiser in Ft. Mitchell, Ky., tonight and went a bit further than she’s gone before in explaining why she believes Sen. Barack Obama cannot win in the fall.

"We did not go through such a long and rigourous campaign to see four more years of Republican leadership in the White House," she said. "Senator [John] McCain will be a formidable candidate in states like Ohio and Kentucky and Pennsylvania — states we’ve got to win. And so therefore I’m grateful for your help tonight, but let’s stay with it, let’s keep going, I believe we are going to prevail."

Clinton thanked the group for their fundraising efforts and then said, "It’s embarassing how much money the two of us have raised. But it’s so expensive to run such a vigorous contested election for as long as we have."

Clinton thanked them for continuing to take her message "on to Puerto Rico, Montana, South Dakota. Also making sure we seat Michigan and Florida."

Clinton said to the crowd, which included Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, that she "will continue to make the case to the superdelegates. … My case can really be can boiled down to two simple propositions. I believe I will be the best president, and I believe I will be the stronger candidate to take on John McCain."

Clinton made the point, as she has frequently, that this contest is not over.

"This race is still too close to call," she said. "They’re still coming around the home stretch. We do not have a nominee. What we have is a very close contest where I’m leading in the popular vote. Where my opponent has an advantage in the delegates. But where ultimately the decision must rest on who can win."

The fundraiser was held at the home of Nathan and Mary Lee Smith in their backyard in Ft Mitchell, Ky. Mary Lee Smith introduced Clinton and explained how her husband is a superdelegate and she has been fielding calls from Obama. She said she had been telling him her husband was with Bill and Chelsea Clinton when he called, but that he should call back.

Tonight when Obama called she said she told him, "he’s in the back yard with Hillary, don’t bother calling back."

Clinton pulled in $150,000 at the small 130-person fundraiser.

Obama CAN beat McCain, my uncle CAN beat McCain, the only person who CAN’T beat McCain is Hilliary… Of course aside from the fact that 2nd place is NOT 1st, she’d have to come to terms with the fact that in order for her or her party to actually beat McCain, she’d have to stop trying to get people to ELECT him, so she can run in four years. Hilliary, I think your priorites are a little out of whack to be casting aspersions upon the nominee for President of your own party!!! Stop working for the Republicans, your running in the opposition party to them, not the same party! Jeez!

Psychology at work! Because Hillary is the total loser of this campaign she desperately tries to paint Obama, who beats her, as a loser as well… Silly girl! Hillary, the GOP is going down this year and you know it. Obama will be America’s next President. Btw, Hillary, study the polls. Even in California and NY, states you once won, Obama is already doing better against McCain than you.
TO LOSE is YOUR verb, Hillary. Bye now. Fare well.

Help me Hillary fans, I can’t seem to find ANY stories about Hillary on any of the major blogs today, except this one and one about a sermon discussing adulterating Bill Clinton….

According to this story, Hillary campaigned in somebody’s “BACKYARD” today.
Yes, the race is still close, you can still win it Hillary… Just keep telling all the super delegates and your supporters not to watch the TV!!
Maybe they won’t see Barack’s crowd of 75,000 today!

Either democrat can win. Winning a primary does not lead to winning the state in the general. Both are strong candidates, and I believe both are massively better than what John McCain continues to offer us.
Democrats unite!

I told ya, I got my check ready for him.
It’s over honey. He’s the clear winner.
The majority doesn’t want you darlin’. They never did and they never will. Your days are over baby. You’re getting old.
So, sweetie, STFU. Now.

75,000 people showing at Obama means nothing for Nov. 100,000 showed up for John Kerry in one event Ohio four years ago. He still lost.
Obama’s success relies on “image” not substance and records. It is so interesting the entire country gets to know him by his two books — right, two books full of fabricated figures and out of cronical events. And most importantly, we only know him by a story told by nobody else but Obama himself. Shouldn’t we be more careful? Do a simple online research to find out what the media is not telling you.

Posted by: Amy | May 18, 2008, 11:08 pm 11:08 pm

Hillary has reached the point of absolute shamelessness. No Hillary you’re not ahead in the popular vote. Florida and Michigan at this point don’t count and the caucuses do count. Does she really think these Super Delegates don’t know this? As if everyone is blind to the reality of the situation except for her.

Posted by: Eddie | May 18, 2008, 11:10 pm 11:10 pm

Having done and said anything to secure the nomination, which didn’t work, now Hillary will do or say anything to offset her massive debt. The money raised at this spiffy event won’t amount to a drop in the bucket, but it should buy her a couple of new pantsuits.
And to think that at one time I was actually excited about her candidacy. Wow.

Posted by: Davis | May 18, 2008, 11:12 pm 11:12 pm

Reality of the situation? There’s a very simple reality that these Clinton lovers who write these mile long blogs continue to ignore. She’s not going to obtain 70% of the remaining delegates and super delegates. No miracle is going to occur which makes that happen. Delegates continue to flock to Obama even after Hillary’s big West Virginia win.

Posted by: Tom | May 18, 2008, 11:15 pm 11:15 pm

Can both sides just relax?
Congratulations to Obama for a record crowd. It is truly awesome. I love the awesome excitement he has generated.
But lets not get carried away here. Portland is a city of roughly 75,000 people. So all the people arent Dem voters and I am sure there were Clinton supporters who came to watch history in the making. But nonetheless, it is a tremendous deal.
Also, Clinton has the right to make her case. Lets not be upset because she wants to go on. She believes in herself and the voting is not over and lets just wait it out.

Posted by: Joan | May 18, 2008, 11:15 pm 11:15 pm

Well Susan it’s too bad the Hillary lovers are too blind to see the reality of what she’s doing. It has nothing to do with thinking she can win. It has to do with the keep the appearance that she can win in order for the money to keep coming in.

I have a hunch that we’re going to find out if Obama can beat McCain come next November…
I don’t see the superdeligates being dumb enough to overthrow Obama for any reason at present because the party’s largest block of voters, blacks, may very well decide to sit this election out and not vote. They don’t have to vote for McCain; just not vote for the Democrat and McCain will win…
I still believe that Clinton is quite content to let McCain win this year and hope for a shot at defeating him in 2012. In spite of the egos of both she and her husband, I can’t imagine that they are continuing to beat on the “Obama can’t defeat McCain” drum at this point in time…

One Hillary supporter to another:
When our Hill eventually concedes (as she almost certainly will) and when she calls for us to support the party’s nominee (as she most definitely will if defeated), will we then turn our backs on her call? Will we tell ourselves that she doesn’t mean what she says and that she is just a pretender as some of her critics claim she is?
Are we driven by a love and respect for Hillary or by a blind and unholy hatred for a Black man?
Those who voted for Bush in the last two presidential elections can forgive themselves for not realising the tribulation their votes would bring. But there will be no excuse for those who will vote for more of the same just to satisfy their ill-feelings.
Life does not stand still or go backwards. Those who lack real honesty and the desire to embrace a positive future for all humankind will fade into extinction. Like the dinosaurs.

Hillary realizes it was she and her people who really disenfranchised Florida and Michigan by supporting penalties.
Hillary realizes the hypocritical nature of wanting the delegates to count so she and her followers now cling to popular vote which technically the democratic party did not provide any sanction on.
Of course since the primary didn’t matter, Hillary ran basically unchallenged in Michigan and the Florida results are skewed at best. There truly is not telling how the results would have gone in a true contest.
Since the votes were to chose delegates the votes don’t matter in any real sense. Hillary’s conduct on Michigan and Florida shows the nightmare of a Clinton Presidency. A lack of concern about details and long-term implications of decisions led to this in Hillary’s campaign. A similar lack of long-term concern let Al Qaeda fester before 9-11 which was essentially set as a result of the previous World Trade Attack, several impotent responses to other attacks. The North Korea nuclear issue was the result of a bad agreement with NK under Clinton1. Proliferation was accelerated under Clinton1 with Khan et al.
Outside of his direct response to 9-11 nd perhaps the NK nuclear issue, Bush was the worst President and Clinton1 set the table for the bad guys for the crises.

First, Obama supporters call Hillary supports: uneducated racists. They call Sen. Hillary Clinton names that I can not even imagine anybody would call his worst enemy.
Why on Earth we have to unite with this type of the party?
I don’t see that it is democratic anymore.
I also don’t see McCain as Bush. McCain serve this country well and proud of it.
We didn’t give up on the Democratic Party. Democratic Party gave up on us. Gave up on people who can not max their donation, working class who living from pay check to paycheck.

75,000 Obama in Oregon is not a big deal. Oregon left wingers are going to show up for him of course LOL. Now if he is the strongest, why is he giving up KY, PA, or other states he is not doing well? Not even in Indiana with all the millions or in West Virginia where he outspent Hillary 4-1 he wasn’t able to win there. His campaign instead loves to stage this huge crowds of the same cult followers, lefties, students, blacks and rich white guys.
Their strategy worked well, they won the caucus states vs. the real battle ground states. Hillary startegist Penn sux; but doesn’t mean Obama is the strongest candidate. His American Idol propaganda will take him only so far!
Obama will be toast in November! I feel so sorry for all the cult followers that are seeing Obama as the “coming” to save their lives. LOL

“BARACK OBAMA DRAWS CROWD OF 75,000 IN OREGON Sunday. Reports say crowd size of a “City.” +++++++++++++++ LOL at Oregon!! I hate to bring this up but last time I checked Oregon had, erm, 7 (seven) electoral votes! Oregon isnt exactly considered a make you or break you state in presidential elections. The argument that Clinton is making is exactly that – the states that actually matter in the (messed up, IMHO) electoral college – the ones who actually put presidents into office – are with her and not Obama. And shes right. Not only that but the Republican election machine managed to put Bush in office, TWICE. They can get McCain elected – dont think otherwise, and Clinton has a far better shot at beating McCain than Obama. Just wait, just wait… until if/when Obama is officially declared the nominee – McCain is going to mop the floor with him, a young man, a man of color, a man with an Arabic sounding name – just watch what they do. And they will appeal to the fear and bias of the same geniuses who voted for Bush. If you’re a Democrat I suggest thinking long and hard about what dirt Clinton has already survived since her husbands administration, compared to what new dirt we don’t even know about Obama that will only come out once the Republicans are sure he is the nominee. They are going to sink him. Keep up the fight Hillary!

Posted by: Sparky | May 18, 2008, 11:38 pm 11:38 pm

Viktoriya writes: “Why on Earth we have to unite with this type of the party?”
The reason is that the person you love, respect, and put your trust in – namely Hillary – will strongly advise you to do so.
I ask again. Will you ignore her call?

Posted by: Geeza | May 18, 2008, 11:39 pm 11:39 pm

What’s even funnier is that Obama and his supporters think the Hillary Supporters will unite and vote him into office. Hah. Let’s see, after calling her every name in the book and deriding her supporters as uneducated and ignorant, they think we will help put their man, Heinz57, into the WH? A man who does not even know how many states there are in the US. A man with questionable ties to very shady characters, a man who has even lied about the circumstances of his birth? Noooo – I don’t think so. Guess those poor Obama Supporters will have to get him into the WH without us – and just what is the chance of that? Especially since most of us will be casting our uneducated and ignorant votes for McCain or Nader. Call me anything, just don’t call me an Obama Supporter. Good Luck on that WH deal! ROFLAMA!!!

Will some ardent Hillary supporter tell me how much they respect Hillary’s wisdom?

No I will not vote for Obama, even if Hillary begs us to do so, and by the way I would have to be listening to hear anything,if and when she decides to concede, that will be the last day that I watch the MSM until November, I will go on a total Media Blackout. I am not interested in the Dog and Pony Show that The DNC will require of her in order to bring the party together. The party should have thought about that before they threw her under the bus. She has to do what she feels she has to do for the sake of the party, but after 22 years of voting Democratic. I will review McCains Policies and his credentials and if I can hold my breath and vote for him I will, if not I will stay at home for the first time in my life. Let the chips fall where they may.

Posted by: Geeza | May 18, 2008, 11:55 pm 11:55 pm

I am sympathetic to the Clinton supporters because, frankly it seems like she lost because her campaign staff (Doyle and Penn) did a terrible job.
She got killed in the caucus states because these so called expert advisors thought these states didn’t matter and weren’t worth competing in. This allowed Obama to run up ridiculously high margins and build a significant delegate lead. If HRC had competed in Idaho, it is hard to believe Obama wins 80%of the vote. Thus, if she had competed in these smaller states, she would now be in a strong position to win the nomination. How frustrating that must be to the Clintons.
But the reality is he has won. He has an insurmountable lead in delegates which is all that matters. (And the popular vote claim, for the reasons others above have noted, is rather dubious)
What I don’t understand is why Clinton supporters would vote for McCain. Justice Stevens is 88 years old. Roe was upheld by 1 vote. If McCain wins the election he will appoint a Justice who will overturn Roe. What about health care? Barack’s plan may not be as universal as Hillary’s but its a lot more progressive than McCains. What about Iraq? Do Clinton supporters really want to vote for a candidate who will have us in Iraq on a long term basis?

Posted by: Jason | May 18, 2008, 11:55 pm 11:55 pm

I was there today, and the crowd was almost 100 percent white, not that that matters. Regardless, I simply don’t know how some people who are hillary supporters would be so stupid as to say they wouldn’t vote for obama. HELLO? Are you paying attention? They agree on almost everything, and our country is on the verge of collapse.
Will you seriously be able to look your children in the eye when they have to scavange for food and say “i’m sorry i brought this on you because I kinda didn’t like obama”?

Posted by: John | May 18, 2008, 11:56 pm 11:56 pm

Geeza – We respect Hillary very much, but in the end, as a matter of personal integrity, each person has to vote their principles. Most Hillary Supporters really feel that Obama is not qualified (for reasons already listed countless times) for the job. We will vote McCain, Nader or sit at home. From reading these blogs, most of her supporters, myself included, will vote for McCain. Also, a lot of us will change our party affiliation to Independent because we feel that this Democratic Party no longer represent our values.

What I am saying is that Hillary is a Democrat and she has loyalties to the Democratic Party, Which after this Primary I don’t understand why, but she is an American and she has the righ to do what she feel is right for her and I have the right to do what I feel is right for My Family and Myself, we all have that freedom. I voted for Hillary and Supported her because I feel that she is the right person for the Job. I Did not Support Obama because I did not have any faith in him as the right person for the job, that has not changed and it will not change, so just because someone tells me to vote for him, that will not make me change my mind. I did my research. I did the work, I compared the policies, I reviewed the records. I watched the debates, there is no substance there, he is not credible to me, therefore I have to look at the other option and then make one of the two decisions that Geeza,I stated earlier, by the way this has nothing to do with hate, I don’t hate anyone. I don’t hate Obama, I simply do not respect him or feel that he is credible and by the way I hope that you are not trying to make this a race thing because I am an African American and I have no interest in making history, my interest lies with the issues Period. The nation may very well self destruct sooner with Obama.

I am also one of those Hillary supporters who will never vote for a newbie Obama even if Hillary pleads for me to do so. I hope if the Democrats push for Obama as a nominee, Hillary would run as an independent. If she is not on the ballot, I have already researched McCain’s policies and will unashamedly support McCain. My country is above any party and therefore I will vote my conscience for McCain.

So you feel that another term of Bush’s policy would be far better than what Obama and Clinton offer. After all, their policies are very similar and in line with the party.
Why would you vote for McCain?

There is nothing ABC news can do to stop Sen. Clinton from becoming President. About three years ago a well known televangelist, Perry Stone Jr., told his congregation that God spoke to him and said Sen. Clinton will be the next President. This information can be obtained from one of his published works on CD entitled “Strange Patterns of Recent American Presidents.” On track 7 of this CD, he tells us that Sen. Clinton will once again be in the White House. So give it up ABC News. And Barack, your days are numbered.

Under Obama watch, gas will be $15.00 per gallon and food banks will not be able to provide food for the long lines of people. The Obama who wants to increase payroll and capital gains taxes has no vision to balance the budget without taxing the people. He will bring change all right, change like we never saw before. Change in the form of hungry, homeless families!

CNN reported the following:
“Ahmed Yousef, chief political adviser to the Hamas Prime Minister said, ‘We like Mr. Obama and we hope he will win the election. He has a vision to change America.’”
It appears Obama’s message of “change” includes opening negoitians with the Hamas if elected President. Israel is God’s chosen people and if America lets down her guard against the Hamas, it will be very bad for America’s foreign policy. I’m afraid that Mr. Obama is setting the USA up for a catastrophic loss with his rhetoric. He tells people what they want to hear, but has no solid plan of action to achieve anything he is campaigning for. I would challenge the Obama supporters to rethink their support of this man.

Any Democrat or Independent who refuses to vote for the nominee because THEIR choice is not the nominee is a fool. This isn’t a junior high school popularity contest. There are serious issues at stake for our country and if you think having a childish tantrum and staying home or voting for McCain is going to get us back on the right track; well, you’re stupid. Obama and Clinton are both intelligent and thoughtful, unlike the current idiot in office, and they both have considerably more integrity than McCain. Either one would be a much better president. Grow up!!!!

White, male, 39yo, educated Pennsylvania voter. The Obamaniacs are kidding themselves. Hillary supporters will NEVER vote for Obama. Not matter if she begs us to do so. Not if Bill Clinton comes around and joins a Kumbaya ceremony with the Kennedys. Not if Osama Bin Laden says he’ll give himself up if Barack is the President. UNDER NOOOO CIRCUMSTANCES.

Geeza – Obama’s policies are similar to
Hillary’s because he stole most of them from her. He is unable to talk in-depth about any of them as proven at the 4 debates he had with Hillary. I have no faith or confidence in his ability to get the job done. McCain, on the other hand was courted by John Kerry to run with him as vice president. I have researched McCain, and why I don’t agree with all of his views, I am far more comfortable with him as POTUS than I am with Obama, a man with more questions than answers. I also think Obama is racist and ruthless, with more leanings to Farrakahn than MLK. He leaves me cold.

The church is thepeople, not the pastor. Can you imagine Jesus staying away from the people because of what was going on with the church leaders?
Then again only a true Christion would understand how you can disagree with a pastor but still love the church.
Obama is the only true democrat. We see that hillary has pulled all of the republican bag of tricks out. How did she get good at it? She was a republican before she met Bill. She switched her views for power. Obama has always been a democrat.

Oregon is the blue state not the swing state and there are a lot of liberal and young population. If he cannot win Kentucky, how he can the win GE. He lost big W. Virginia, Ohio and Pen. He is a head of delegate because of 140 delegates from caucus. He couldn’t win big state primaries except in his own state and NC which is a lot AA population. If no AA in NC, he would loose it.

I was just reading an article about him on the New York Times which was detailing how he had started writing his memoirs when he first started running for office. As far as I can tell, his “success” doesn’t come from any substantial accomplishments or experience, it comes from him giving speeches and writing books about himself. Who writes their memoir in their 30′s?
He’s just full of himself and full of words to bamboozle people.

yes, maybe 75,000 of people did go see obama give one of his speeches, but it was in Oregon- a state Kerry won…a blue state. Hillary has won all the states needed to actually be able to win the WH. The swing states…she won Ohio (which got Bush re-elected), Penn., Florida (Obama was in the ballot), West Virginia and so on. Hillary can win swing states, Obama can only carry blue states which will vote democrat no matter what.

Obamas tribe would rather loose the election then confest that obrak is looser..
Obama can only win dem nomination due to silly way democrats distribution their delegate ,,
But in general election the Winner takes it all..
And if you distribute Obama and Clintons states that way
She is already over 2300 delegates and Obama is barely on 1700 …
Its obvious that only Clinton can bit McCain and
Obama will loose general election

How dare you assume we judge him by the color of his skin?? Fighting for equality and against racism and against bigotry is JUST as important!! Green, purple, plaid or yellow, We will rise up and fight against racist Obama supporters like you!!! In truth, bigoted Obama supporters like you are the reason most of us hate Obama. SHAME on Obama supporters for their racism!! We’re voting no to your racism!!! We’re voting no to your silence when racist, bigoted remarks fly from Obama supporters!! NO MEANS NO!!! “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” MLK Jr. We will fight for Equality for Everyone, not when it is only convenient to Obama and racist Obama supporters!!!

He lost all the big states[blue-red-toss-up]with the majority of the electoral votes. At least he needs those toss-up
states to win in november.
I don’t see how is going to carry

NY and Cali swing states? They have voted Democrat in at least the past four presidential elections. West Virginia voted for Bill Clinton twice, and made him president, however it voted for Bush in 2004 and Kerry lost. Hillary won there. Obama can’t win there, Hillary beat him by 40 points!

She already won with over 2300 delegates

at general election he is a looser with this performance , for he must take those key states he lost

She won all the possible swing states come November.
She won Ohio, Penn, West Virginia, Arkansas, Florida, New Mexico.
Those are the swing states, the presidency will be determined here.

Steve.
Swing states are OHIO,PENNSYLVANIA,
MICHIGAN,FLORIDA etc.
Kerry lost OHIO and lost the elections.
Obama’s electability in november is
very slim,OR almost ZERO.

Democrats love losing elections. People like Steve who do not even know the meaning of swing states, rally behind a man that has absolutely no chance of winning and lose us an election that was in the bag. All Hillary Clinton must do is win all the states John Kerry did in 2004 (all blue states) and then one more state and she’s president. That one more state must be Ohio, Arkansas, West Virginia or Penn. A SWING STATE

Arkansas and West Virginia are very much swing states, but only if Hillary gets the nomination. Hillary was first lady of Arkansas for 12 years, homestate of Bill Clinton, Arkansas polls have her 18 points ahead of McCain. West Virginia voted twice for Bill Clinton and made him president, Kerry lost the state and the election.

Posted by: omg | May 19, 2008, 1:54 am 1:54 am

yes bobb, but all those states are democratic states…they will vote Democratic no matter what, just like Alabama and Idaho will vote Republican no matter what. Kerry lost the key states, the SWING states, the states Hillary is strong in. He lost Ohio, Florida and West Virginia, and therefore the White House.

Posted by: danny | May 19, 2008, 1:59 am 1:59 am

Those who exalt himself should be humbled.
Many of the Obama fanatics in the net are just hired hands smearing from Bush’s playbook. They mislead and cheat. A vote one person, Hillary is the winner now. They cheat on caucases; they cheat on rule of nomination; they cheat on MI and FL.
Now Hillary has found her faithful voters and her voters have found their candidates. These are prefect match. Together all the way to the WHITE HOUSE.
We want more democracy not less. The venom from the BO fanatics is divisive and hurtful AND deny people’s constitutional rights to select the one to be nominated, to deny voices of people, to deny people’s votes. These fanatics called us names, days in and days out; jeers and sneers the honest and faithful voters. We have come to a conclusion after that; NOBAMA.
VOTE FOR MAMA AND NOBAMA.

West Virginia becomes a swing state if Hillary get the nomination, otherwise it isn’t. How many times must i tell you, she beat Obama there by 40 points and West Virginia voted for Bill Clinton twice and made him President twice! GET it thur your fat head.

Posted by: danny | May 19, 2008, 2:06 am 2:06 am

the election isn’t only about the war. McCain can beat Obama in Ohio, Penn. and West Virginia by reminding rural voters that Obama called them bitter, by telling them Obama’s pastor damns America for 911 and killing innocent children. Republicans are pigs, and will stop at nothing to destroy Obama. Clinton has fought them before, and beat them twice in 92 and 96.

I am watching FOX Strategy Room now and they are reviewing worst debate moments (can’t wait to see the #1 worst…sure it’s an Obama moment). The whole audience is full of Dems and Reps. and they are polling the audience and judging new ads by all the candidates. He asked how many want to see Hillary stay in the race and everyone raised their hands. People still want her in this, many believe she is the stronger candidate to beat McCain, because they are both centrists.
This primary seems as if it was brokered early on for Obama by billionaire liberals, and if BO doesn’t get it there will be revolt by college kids, black, & liberals. I just keep thinking of “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” and there will be millions of “scorned” women who may not riot, but will quietly vote McCain in Nov. Policies aside, people vote who they like and relate to…because most promises are unlikely to be delivered anyway. Obama told all his supporters to “be nice to Clinton supporters” yesterday….I say “screw him”! Hillary should stay in the race…you never know if Rev. Wright is going to come out and play with the press again.

I love it….the number 2 worst debate moment is BO trying to explain how he has disowned Rev. Wright’s comments. The mixed (Rep./Dem.) audience laughed and his rating kept going down on the graph that they were all turning their rating nobs on. Even if they keep Rev. Wright locked up until Nov. (J. Jackson, and Sharpton too)…..it will still be the downfall of Obama’s candidacy.

There is no question that Obama can’t beat John McCain. Look at 2004, even Kerry/Edwards can’t beat G.Bush because of moral votes from religions. This time, the patriot votes which come from every corner of America will hand the White House to GOP again.

Policy reasons this Hillary supporter will vote for McCain instead of Obama
1) I oppose legalization of marijuana 2) I oppose refusing medical care to a newborn child that survives an abortion procedure (although I support abortion
3) I oppose gay marriages (although I support civil unions)
4) I oppose a ban on handguns and I oppose the adoption of the UN Milenium Standards
5) I oppose sending 6-8% of the US GDP to developing countries during a economic slowdown at home (i.e. Obama’s Global Anti-Poverty Bill)
6) I oppose the use of a non-military solution to a nuclear attack on Israel, especially given the US is likely to be Iran’s second target in a nuclear holocaust
7) I oppose associating with communists such as Frank Davis, with homegrown terrorists like William Ayers and his wife Bernadette (the Obamas worked at a Chicago law firm where they befriended Bernadette), and with Jodie Evans who has only recently raised more money for the Obama campaign than for the families of the 9/11 terrorists … a lawyer should know that you avoid even the appearance of impropriety.
His position on social issues and on national security issues are not the same as Hillary’s–they are much more liberal. A Democratic Congress can reign in a President–if it does its job–and it will be much more likely to do that if McCain is the President.
Personal reasons this Hillary supporter will vote for McCain
1) I don’t like being called an uneducated bigot
2) I don’t like being told to “sit down and shut up” while the party elites and the MSM select the nominee
3) I refuse to be a party to disenfranchising the people in Michigan and Florida
4) I refuse to support the abuses of the caucus system which denied working voters and elderly or shut-in voters an opportunity to be counted
5) I can’t get over all the “what ifs” associated with Barack Obama
6) I feel a strong sense of unease about Obama that I can’t pinpoint
7) On a gut level, I just don’t trust him
Plus, it doesn’t help that Obama is out there telling senior citizens that McCain is going to take away their social security–talk about fearmongering amongst one of the most vulnerable populations.

Obama has a double digit lead over Clinton in Oregon, not a real big minority state either. White, rural yes and he leads, what’s up with that?? Oh yea, EDUCATION!!! So smart people vote Obama. Makes sense to me.

Does Obama have any idea what the 527′s are going to do to Democratic presidential chances with Obama as nominee? More importantly, does the DNC and superdelegates have any idea?
I would really like to have a chance. How about going with the person who wins all the swing states and electoral votes to give us that chance.

democrats can hand it over to mccain if they let obama get away with this.
the democratic process is noit over yet. the race for the democratic nominee is not over yet.
counting ALL votes is not over yet. yet obama wants and pushes to cut the democracy short.
obama is against people voting.. in the democratic party – that is unheard of and every signle voter should have a pause just because of that!
mccain will beat obama to the punch – there isn’t even a question about that if one looks at the electoral map.
Hillary wins this.

Hillary Clinton needs to understand one thing right now, no matter who the nominees is, the MUST beat McCain. By adding her opinion that he cannot neat McCain she is defeating the purpose. Everytime she puts more doubt into the brew, she makes it harder for ANYONE to win over Indep and unhappy Reps. She needs to BACKOFF until there os a nominee and then BLAST McCain. Plus she just showed everyone why she cannot be trusted. She must have lied publically in the last debate when she said he could beat McCain…HRC get with the program…

General election -no caucuses, not closed to one party, Florida and Michigan will count, GOP and 527′s will bring up stuff on Obama that Clinton has not, Obama has lost all the swing states, WV, OH,PA,FL,MI. he will lose MO,VA,NC,SC,Al,MS,UT,NB,ID, and all the safe GOP states.

Obama is the creation of the media and those corporations and special interests that have supported him generously. He supports many republican ideals: big buisness-wants to help Mexico and Brazil with their employment program aka: setting up corporations in those countries? were are American jobs going? O yeah I forgot:Those are the bitter white people who cling to their guns and religion…racist…low level…
He didn’t even bother to campaign in those states WV& kentucky-he didn’t even try..why Obama supporters????keep asking yourselves??? and rest assured if he’s elected it will give the repulicans time to come up with a new candidate and a new strategy after the mess that was left by Bush…
Then there is this “non moral” approach to traditional issues to appease younger voters making him look very left when he is not. So he will offer subsidies to big buisness to help develop new environmentally sound technologies?? Why should these tyrants of oil, the media including media technology,automanufacturers-get any taxpayer money? They are the ones that will get it. You know-not the young bright college grad and his friend who’s parents have lost their house and healthcare..Think long and hard about that young obama supporters …becareful what you wish for.
Hillary Clinton has sound experience amd a get tough realistic approach to her campaign. The USA had its greatest economy in history when Bill Clinton was in the White HOuse.
She is going to surprise all you nay sayers and she will win. If not Novemeber 2008 is looking bleak.

geevil….that is valid except HRC thought she was owed this election from the beginning. She NEVER counted on it goin this far, that is why she is out of money now. She didn’t make an effort to look at caucuses and realize, if she attempted to run in them she could win. HRC is also weak in Rep states which Obama isn’t. Most of the states he won where places Dems have NEVER won. That is such a plus for the party…I look at it this way..if Hillary is SO great why hasn’t she blown this freshman, unknown Senator out the door by now?

He’ll lose. Then he will blame America.
Better get a thick skin. After the things that have been said about Senator Clinton, the vile names, the attempts to humiliate her family, the tenor was set for the campaign to come.
No threats. Just saying…

The DNC is truly miscalulating if they believe most Hillary supporters will, in the end, support Obama as the nominee. There are 18 members of my extended family who always vote Democratic. Of those 18, 17 are voting for McCain, and at least half of those have NEVER voted Republican in their lives. Our loyalty is not to Hillary Clinton. Our loyalty is to the United States. A man who remains in an Anti-American, anti-white church for 20 years does so BECAUSE HE AGREES WITH THOSE VIEWS. Just ask his wife. She can barely hide her contempt for this country or for white people.

Posted by: jld1959 | May 19, 2008, 9:38 am 9:38 am

Posted by: geevill | May 19, 2008, 9:41 am 9:41 am

Hillary is obviously not looking at the polls where the same Hillary supporters have said off the cuff and out of anger they will not vote for Obama in the general…just like Obama supporters ahve said they will not vote for Hillary out of anger at her campaign.
Most people know and are smart enought to realize people vote on issues first…not out of spite.
The polls we have seen where it is a close race between either of those dem candidates inherently have to include that spiteful anger which will subside substantially before the general… as much as Hillary and a handful of supporters say it will carry to embolden their argument…it won’t carry enough to effect the massive drubbing that McCain will get even before he has been scrutinized.
The numbers of present potential defectors that the exit polls showed are included already in those polls that show a tie (they inherently have to) in the head to head match-ups.
Those numbers in exit polls are at best double what will be in the general…
but just for arguments sake and hillary’s fantasy…lets say 80-90% of those people continue to be defectors…(which is beyond ridiculous) and really put there real vote against all those policies that Hillary fought for…
Obama still would win.

Posted by: Samantha | May 19, 2008, 9:56 am 9:56 am

This is so silly to me. What Obama supporters fail to acknowledge is that most of his wins came before he and all of his baggage was known.
The DNC should have properly vetted him before they shoved him down our throats.
Millions of people in the early races feel bamboozled and will no way vote for him in the GE. That, on top of not being able to get Hillary supporters to back him, well, how can you all not hear the fat lady singing the blues for him?

The media has not given Hillary a fair shake. I agree. When 42% of political coverage was on rev wright and additional coverage on Rezko, I barely saw a mention of Hillary’s scandals; Norman Hsu, Peter Paul, cattlegate, filegate, etc. There wasn’t much on conflicts of interest where Bill Clinton is basically a paid lobbyist for columbia, china, etc. Bill is making tens of millions as a lobbyist and will have complete and unfettered access to the president if Hillary’s elected. There wasn’t much coverage on Bill’s links to Kazakhstan or other countries. I agree. Hillary hasn’t been given equal air time recently. Media, please start talking about Hillary and here scandals, questionable associations and (mainly Bill’s) conflicts of interest.

Posted by: Thomas Mc | May 19, 2008, 10:28 am 10:28 am

Colleen
as Obama supporters we would love to debate issues…but we never get there because it is all about this other crap she needed to try and win.
Obama’s policies are detailed and nuanced and not able to be debated in the 30 second soundbbite…because that is what these issues need not…the political spin for votes hidden behind taking the voters eye off the ball.
and the press NEVER asked…and no the American people don’t know any of this…as much as you want to say it’s old… it’s not and it has never been asked…and she has NEVER answered most of these questions… These were not all created…the Peter Paul’s and the fines and censures and the investigations.
The Mass media gave her a pass on ALL of it. So stop with that.
Let’s look at her healthcare just as one of the policies and the one everyone says is her strength…she is wrong on almost every issue her policies are political not solutions and this is one example)and tell me how her plan addresses the problems at hand besides getting universal healthcare…
because everyone knows the challenge to get universal healthcare is about costs…and the biggest issues with costs are
Medical Billing and a huge bureaucratic organization like medicare or the Massachusetts plan will drive those costs up (and any medical billing professional will tell you that medi-care is a huge problem with billing…the worst.)
Lawsuits… redundant and exorbitant…which inherently don’t punish the doctor who made the mistake as much as get passed on to the consumer… people don’t realize the redundancy of many of these multi-million dollar medical awards going out…and are made to be so large to punish the doctor or hospital but just punish the patients… this will get greater inherently with more patients and no increase in providers
then there is the third biggest cost issue …the simple lack of professionals and staff…in nursing family practice, surgery, billing…
these will all get hugely more costly with Hillary’s plan.
then there is drugs…where a payola system still exists in the pharmaceutical industry…do you understand that pharmaceutical companies can track doctors prescriptions in most states…
and on top of that she wants to do it through garnishes and tax breaks…
I don’t know if you have ever been in the less than 30k tax break but when yuo are trying to decide between rent and food and healthcare ends up not in the decision process… garnishing wages with a taxc break for a group that 99% of them file a 1080ez (because they don’t have accountants and don’t understand tax laws and breaks) is not going to help them keep food on the table.
she is out of touch with the people she is saying she is fighting for.
It is about cost… first. We can’t get to universal healthcare until the costs are reigned in. and to promise that for votes is a very underhanded thing. She can not achieve it…even with a predominantly democratic congress.
so as Obama supporters we would love to debate issues…but we never get there because it is all about this other crap she needed to try and win.
Obama’s policies are detailed and nuanced and not able to be debated in the 30 second soundbbite…because that is what these issues need not…the political spin for votes hidden behind taking the voters eye off the ball.
the number one reason I can’t stand that Hillary supporters give…that the media was easy on Obama…
tell me one question she answered about what is whitewater?
tell me what she thinks of people giving her money for staying in the Lincoln bedroom
tell me who Mr. Hsu is from any question posed to her about his discrepancies
tell me what the cattle futures questions were …from someone asking her and her answering…once…
tell me why her campaign chair cleared out Vince Foster’s office the day after the suicide when it was not even close to her job and before investigators got in there?
does she think there is a vast right wing conspiracy still
…the lists of questions that we have never had asked of Hillary… never mind during this entire year and a half primary is ridiculous…

Posted by: dl | May 19, 2008, 10:28 am 10:28 am

We elect our president in the general election by winner take all. If the democratic primary was more like the general election process or even the Republican primary, Hillary would be the nominee already. He would have over 2,500 delegates, while obama would be stuck at 1,700. Just watch Obama be another John Kerry in the general election.

Posted by: danny | May 19, 2008, 10:42 am 10:42 am

Why do Obama supporters always cry racism when someone does not want to support their candidate?
Could it not possibly be that we don’t feel he is of good character? That his associates are not of good character?
That we feel he is less than truthful?
Racism is the only justification they can come up with. That is so sad.

Posted by: Marl | May 19, 2008, 10:43 am 10:43 am

Yet Obama supporters are pulling at straws when they come up against an African American such as myself who does not support him. I can’t be called a racist because I am also black, but they resort to accusations of jealousy.

Posted by: Samantha | May 19, 2008, 10:48 am 10:48 am

Obama supporters think Hillary supporters are terrible because they say they will not vote for Obama in Novemeber. They keep saying she lost. He is only winning because of the early races and a lot of those people are not going to vote for him in Novemeber.
This is a case where he is going to win the battle (the nomination) and we are all going to lose the war. (McCain will win the White House)
If Obama supporters were realists they would vote for Hillary as she is the only one who could beat McCain.
So keep crying “we won” all you want and lose in Novemeber. That is some swell victory.

Posted by: Ann | May 19, 2008, 10:56 am 10:56 am

The general election argument is not valid. It is actually part of the reason Hillary is trailing in delegates. Mark Penn didn’t seem to realize that the democrats use proportional allocation and Hillary’s resources where aligned to just go after the big states. Obama’s camp went after every state and aligned their resources to gather up many delegates in states Hillary basically ignored. Knowledge of the rules and a great strategy has give Obama the advantage. If the rules were winner take all, Obama’s camp would have aligned their strategy differently and the outcome would be different. I’m not saying he would be ahead of Hillary. I am saying changing the rules after most of the game is played and then saying you are ahead doesn’t make sense. Imagine playing 3 quarters in a basketball game and then the trailing team says lay-ups are worth 4 points and, by the way, they did more lay-ups in the first three quarters and are now ahead. It just doesn’t make sense.

Posted by: X marks the spot | May 19, 2008, 11:01 am 11:01 am

LESSON TO LEARN (FROM GOP) FOR DEM IN PRIMARY.
1. No Caucus.
2. Winner Take all.
3. Do not allow voters other than Dem member to vote.
Hillary Clinton will be nominated if those rules are applied and we will take the White House in this November.

“We did not go through such a long and rigourous campaign to see four more years of Republican leadership in the White House,” she said.
Nora, Hillary implied that if Obama wins the nomination, there will be another Republican in the White House.
So, if you’re looking where Hillary says that Obama can’t beat McCain, there’s the quote above.

Posted by: RFBorjal | May 19, 2008, 11:29 am 11:29 am

What else does she have left? Honestly. She’s grasping at straws during the final lag of the race, only hoping that she can throw out something like this. She’s only hurting Obama’s chances more by saying that too because she’s rifting the party. Which is fine by me.

Posted by: Nate Nead | May 19, 2008, 11:59 am 11:59 am

Funny, these Hillary supporters. They say that they will believe that the primary is finally over when “the lady in the pantsuit says so”, but they will defy her if she tells them to support Obama in November.
In other words, they will obey their much worshipped heroine on such a simple matter as putting an official end to the primary, but they will defy and disrespect her on the all-important matter of putting an end to the Republican leadership that 82% of the people think is taking the country in the wrong direction.
For all their supposed undying faith, Hillary’s supporters don’t really trust her on the things that matter most.

Posted by: RFBorjal | May 19, 2008, 12:00 pm 12:00 pm

I think that Hillary will stand behind the party that deserted her because she loves the party.
I do not have the same loyalty to the party that deserted the better candidate and spit on half the party. I will never vote for a racist Anti-American. I would not vote for him if he was on the same ticket as her.
I love my Country too much to do that.
What Obama people should be asking themselves is if/when their candidate is going to come clean and ask you to back Clinton as he knows he is un-electable.
I would guess he will not do that so in the end we will see who really cared about the party won’t we?
In January you will be saying President McCain along with the rest of us.

“This is a case where he is going to win the battle (the nomination) and we are all going to lose the war. (McCain will win the White House)” – Ann at 10:56:03
Another mystery from Hillary’s supporters. If McCain’s winning the Presidency means losing the war, why do they want to vote for McCain and thus contribute to losing the war? Where’s the logic?

Posted by: RFBorjal | May 19, 2008, 12:17 pm 12:17 pm

NCDem, the top finance people from both campaigns have been meeting now behind the scene to plan for the consolidation of their resources for the upcoming GE campaign. The Democratic Party will be united behind the nominee in November. The Clintons are astute politicians. Bill already has his legacy. They will not do anything that will destroy the Party and throw away that legacy. I don’t think they are foolish enough to want to lose their place in history just so they can spite the Party for their loss in a primary.
Hillary will endorse Obama and call on her supporters to elect him President in November.
Hillary is long-sighted and sees beyond this primary. You are short-sighted and see only this primary. She is bigger than you are.

Posted by: RFBorjal | May 19, 2008, 12:48 pm 12:48 pm

Anyone that wants to vote for McCain can, but when you suffer for the next four years with him as president remember this could have been avoided. In my opinion Hillary has no class. She could have done a lot to have the party headed in the right direction, but she has made this choice to drag it out. Clinton is a very smart lady and she is self serving. She is speaking out of both sides of her mouth. The Clinton supporters should support her but in the end get in line and vote for your party. Instead you will vote republican. Are you crazy or just stupid.

Posted by: KDH | May 19, 2008, 1:03 pm 1:03 pm

America is grateful to McCain for his past service, but he is the wrong man at this time. Extending Bush’s term for another 4 years (just so Hillary can run in 2012) will not serve the best interest of the country.
Obama is the right person to turn this country around and lead it in the right direction.
You have your opinion, I have mine. You don’t need to be vitriolic. Only the collective wisdom of the American people will decide who is right and who is wrong.

The party didn’t desert Hillary. She started with 160 super delegats before the first vote was cast. Nobody even knew Obama’s name and the media was declaring the first woman president. Then a funny thing happened, the voters said “no, we don’t want Clinton Part Duex!” We voted and, despite Clinton’s name recognition, Clinton’s support from the former president, Clinton’s support of 160 supers, Clinton’s support of the party’s organizational arm, Clinton’s connections, Clinton’s tens of millions, we voted NO! No one deserves the presidency. More voters (including FL, MI and the caucus states which aren’t usually quoted in the popular vote) have voted for Obama.

The truth is, Barack Obama, is not electable, and never be president. He should surrender now and go home. And be a rock star or a cult leader.

Hillary supporters:
Your candidate fought a good fight… but it is OVER.
Now many of you are saying, “I will never vote for Obama!”
Why? Clinton and Obama agree on nearly every policy issue. You may not like his personality, but we are voting on POLICY here. No president has ever been perfect (and some were glaringly imperfect), but they have still been able to do great things and change the direction of our country in a time of crisis.
Would you honestly prefer 4 more years of McBush and the same old failed politics (Iraq, the economy, civil liberties, the environment, education, the mortgage crisis, healthcare, SSI, gas prices, etc)???
Democrats MUST unite. You can hold your nose while you punch your ballot, but you cannot vote for another Republican nightmare. We are at the tipping point…and the world needs us to step up and provide the right kind of leadership NOW.
If Democrats cannot win this year with all of the new supporters and all of the issues on our side, we do not deserve to. Let’s not make this a self-fulfilling prophecy. Only by standing together can we heal our country and our planet.
I have supported Obama since he announced his candidacy, and I DO NOT like or admire Hillary in any way. In fact, I frequently change the channel when I see her face or hear her voice. However, if she were the eventual nominee, would I vote for her? You bet. My loyality is to my party and the issues I believe are important to my country. We cannot allow pettiness to tear us apart…
