Edwards: Not Interested in VP, Not Thinking About AG

ABC News’ Raelyn Johnson reports: One day after endorsing Sen. Barack Obama,  the presumtive Democratic nominee, former Sen. John Edwards says he is not angling to become a vice presidential candidate.

"I have no interest in running for VP," said Edwards, arriving at an event in New York City Thursday evening.

For some, Obama and Edwards standing Wednesday on a Michigan stage with their arms raised looked like a possible Democratic convention scenario — with the pair standing on stage as the Democratic ticket.

Edwards aides also said the former senator was not eyeing a vice presidential bid, and that no deal was cut for his heavily courted endorsement.

On the possibility of being picked as an attorney general nominee, Edwards told reporters, "I don’t have any thoughts about any of that."

Edwards was in New York attending an event sponsored by Demos, a non-partisan public policy research and advocacy organization.

Edwards took the stage and quickly revived his stump speech, but paused to hold back tears when speaking about working-class Americans.

“Every time I see any of these people, I see my father,” said Edwards as he began to choke up.

He continued, “Who I watched, for a long time, 30-some-odd years, go in the mill every day so that I could be in this place.

“Every man and woman who works in these hotels, who works in our nursing homes, who work as security guards — every one of them is worth as much as me and every person in this room.”

Edwards spoke very briefly about his recent endorsement of Obama.

“God bless, Barack Obama; I only endorsed him because he used to be a member of Demos,” said Edwards. “But God bless Barack and God bless Hillary and, begrudgingly, John McCain.”

In addressing the several hundred people, Edwards said he believed that a Democrat would be elected to the White House in 2008, but cautioned, “The idea that that president is going to solve all of our problems is a fantasy. All of us have to be there every step of the way, from the ground up. This is about organizing. It is about educating. This is what demos is about.”

Edwards was originally slated to attend the event with his wife, Elizabeth Edwards, who was absent from Wednesday’s Obama endorsement. When asked where Elizabeth stood in the endorsement process, Edwards declined to speak for his wife.

He acknowledged that he is working with Obama, figuring out their schedules to see what type of support Edwards can lend to Obama’s campaign. Edwards is also encouraging his remaining pledged delegates to switch to Obama.

As for alerting Clinton to his endorsement, Edwards acknowledged, "I called her. We kept missing each other. I tried to speak with her.”

No deal was cut? Yeah, I sure believe that.
And to think Edwards used to be my guy.
Where’s Elizabeth when you need her? SHE should have run!

Seems that some people are holding a grudge against Obama for getting more votes than Hillary.
The audacity of the guy for getting the most votes. Imagine that.

Edwards is a traitor to the American working class that he teared up about. Political bull****.
He is a traitor to West Virginia who chose who they believe will better represent them and help them.
I cannot get over how out of touch these dems have become.
Hello Edwards – you just betrayed the memory of your father.

Do not fault Obama supporters b/c Obama ran an extraordinary campiagn.

What I’ve found that amazing is that the day after West Virginia….the state that is arguably the poorest in the nation, votes overwhelmingly for Clinton…the “Candidate for Change” comes out to support the “Candidate of the Elitist”. John Edwards’s endorsement of Barack better have sealed the deal on Edward’s political future ( AG, VP, or otherwise). If not, he will be the kiss of death on any future political campaign ( after two humiliating losses….same with John (I own ketchup) Kerry.

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. During this election season, this same road has led directly to Barack Hussein Obama, and it has been throughly lacking of any ‘positive’ intentions. Once again, we have found another Democratic leader falling back in line with the ultimate symbol of defeat and humiliation (Obama), only for the ulterior purpose of increasing their Party’s future prospects among African Americans and youth voters.
Now, to this long list of shameful converts, you must add John Edwards. A loser in his own right, he has already experienced personal and National political defeats for the past decade, and is now once more demonstrating his ability to gravitate towards loss and shame, extending his dubious record with Obama at his side (and at the helm!).
To an Independent voter, John Edwards always seemed like a fair candidate, considering the mainstream alternatives that were creeping out of both parties at the beginning of this electoral season. He had a successful background as a plaintiff attorney, and seemed to be flirting with a populist message that would have been somewhat attractive, had he been poised in a general election scenario. His policies were similar to Hillary Clintons’, which seemed somewhat reasonable, although not necessarily the best thing in the world for any independent strict ‘constitutionalist’, who highly disprove of giving more responsibility and power to a central government that has shown itself to be highly inefficient and corrupt (with both parties at the helm). Nonetheless, his policies seemed to have been specifically tailored for the same White working class voters that Obama has almost completely lost (and will probably no longer recover no matter Edward’s efforts).
We must not forget that Barack Hussein Obama LITERALLY stole Edwards 2004 Announcement speech (almost) in it’s entirety, without in any way encouraging the wrath of John Edwards or his (then alive) campaign.
We should also remember how in the Nevada Democratic Debate, Edwards pointed out that Obama had passed all other candidates in his acceptance of financial support by drug companies and pharmaceuticals, a factor which Edwards claimed was directly causing harm to fellow Americans and thus an issue close to his heart. In said debate Edwards mockingly asked Obama; “do you think they expect something in return”? I guess we now know at least what EDWARDS wanted in return for his submission; political relevancy. Among the many issue which Edwards also declared to be important, and which stood in direct conflict with Obama, his (Obama’s) dysfunctional plan on withdrawing troops from Iraq, and a Health Care proposal that was NOT in any way universal.
But now, suddenly, we are to understand that all of these issues have evaporated and taken a back seat to ‘following the Party line’ with whomever is labeled a “Democrat” in the November ticket! Do any of these politicians have an understanding of dignity and/or honor? Are they so easily swayed by dogma and economic/political/collective self interest, that they completely willing to abandon their own principles and supporters?
At least, this whole shameful event will push voters to realize that the Founding Fathers were correct when they stated that the ONLY correct way of voting (and acting) within a Democracy was by staying OUTSIDE of political parties, and thus judging the character, integrity, honesty and values of the individual candidate running for office, irrespective of his SUPPOSED political affiliation? We all know that this task is difficult enough!
Do voters forget that candidates have to join a party to be able to run for office? These decisions are usually made out of necessity or simple convenience, thus you get a “Democratic” Lieberman and a “Republican” McCain.
At the end of the day, the core preoccupation about our floundering Democracy lies in the issue of consistency and integrity. John Edwards knows that Obama is the ‘offspring’ of Chicago’s corrupt political machine, but he still supports him. John Edwards understands that Obama has personally funded, via his directorship in the Woodsfund, terrorist sympathizers (Khalidi and others) who claim that SUICIDE BOMBING is a legitimate method of resistance fighting (even if used against school children). John Edwards also knows that Obama is completely unprepared to become Commander in Chief, something to which he had continuously alluded to in multiple interviews, nevertheless, we now have him riding this faux pony all the way to the White House (it’s gate!).
With Barack Obama’s upcoming “surprise” leak, in which he will eventually declare Claire McCaskill as his November running mate (this is a well sourced rumor), this political season has become a spectacle of self interest and rabid pandering. Somehow, Obama’s campaign is expecting that Southern Whites and women are going to flock to the most divisive candidate in modern history, just because they intend to place a White female (ROOKIE) from Missouri as his “second” on a National ticket.
If our citizens have any self respect and/or dignity, and they are not easily swayed by cheap political maneuvering, this election will be the one to demonstrate it, by serving up the biggest Democratic defeat in history.
If this Nation deserves a second chance and a straight route to save it’s collective soul, this will be the enduring election that will wrestle it’s HONOR out from the historic jaws of extinction.

When you think about it, the DNC is made of nothing more than lawyers who don’t have a clue about how to earn real money in the real world. They only know how to twist things to take money out of each of our pockets. Hey, that’s what a politician does best. They produce no worth, they take money they didn’t earn, and at the end, they sucker you into thinking that they’ve served you. Yes, they served you an excrement sandwich and you thank them for it. That is so pathetic. I had heard on my local CBS radio station today that local US congressmen even charge the taxpayers for gasoline. So, on top of the best healthcare in the world, we pay the $4/gal gas for their SUVs. Yes, SUVs. Then they have the gall to lecture us about our polluting the air.

Reading some of these comments, I can see why politicians have pander to ignorance to win. A lot of Hillary supporters think John Edwards (and probably Bill Richardson) are “backstabbers” because they didn’t endorse for Hillary. Don’t you people understand that an endorsement is supposed to be about who one thinks would be the best candidate? Don’t you understand that an endorsement would mean nothing at all if it was based on who you were most connected to or who you had to return favors to? Some of you think that Edwards should “repay” Bill Clinton for this or that. Why would I, as someone who respects Edwards, want to know who he needs to repay the most, rather than who he thinks would be the best candidate?

Posted by: James Davis | May 15, 2008, 10:36 pm 10:36 pm

Geesh, Hillary fans, please don’t be so angry. Hill has had lots of endorsements. I didn’t yell no fair when the Eddy Rendel put his mighty machine to work for her in PA or when Bayh did in IN or when Governor Stricland did in Ohio. I didn’t yell unfair, though I was tempted, when she hired Hispanics by the hundreds to get out the vote in the Texas border country while we were using only volunteers. Mrs. Clinton has had lots of surrogates and endorsements. John Edwards never promised either of them anything and Mrs. Clinton doesn’t resent him. Why so mean about it? I would be disappointed too, but there are limits aren’t there? Do we want to live in a world where there are no limits? Is that the America you’ve been holding in your heart and dreaming of? I know that that isn’t what Senator Clinton has been wanting for you or for any of us.

It is difficult to see how committed Edwards is to the plight of working-class Americans and then endorse Obama. He saw Hillary’s landslide in West Virginia, her wins in Ohio, Pennsylvania and other big states. Why? He could have had impact at the Convention, and certainly retain his stature as a leader. Now, his image has lost some luster.
Regardless, this race is not over.

ABC, why don’t YOU investigate this? Read below:

I am one of many who immediately received a request for funds for Edwards’ pet project just after the endorsement. But I am not a subscriber to any of his stuff. Where did he get my name, and how did he get this mailing out so fast? This bears exploring, I think. I build websites for a living, and I can tell you that getting a huge mass mailing out like this is no small task. It is very server intensive, and a list of that size would require quite a few servers to be crunching those emails out in order to get them all to their destinations as quickly as these did. Did he get the list from the DNC? I used to be on their list, but unsubscribed after they started being so biased toward HRC. I also signed up a long time ago onto barack’s website so I could look around. So it may have been BO’s list. I have never received any solicitations from him, however. Is this the deal Edwards made with Obama? -

For someone who is running a campaign of inclusiveness, I have never seen so much division. To Clinton supporters: Bill Clinton is not running for president, his wife is. It seems that there is something nostalgic about Hilliary Clinton running for president, as if we are going to suddenly live in the 90s again. We have had the Bush Sr (4 years) Clinton (8 years) Bush (8 years), please, I don’t want another Clinton (4 -???). Lets have something new and promising. We need a change!

You know all of you so called “democrats” who insist that if Obama gets the nomination then you will vote for McCain in the fall. Well you’ll show them huh? Then we will have a 3rd term of Bush as if the country is not already shot to….well you know the rest. WOW just because the nominee that some democrats wanted Hillary isn’t going to get the nomination doesn’t mean that you should switch parties. What are you accomplishing? If you vote out of anger and not on the issues then you are only hurting yourselves..because whoever gets the Whitehouse is already financially stable and has no worries. Regular Americans however should have alot more vested in this decision and not just vote out of anger. If you know the issues then you know that Hillary and Barack’s stances on the issues are very similar almost identical…so what’s the problem. Oh is it that he is an African-American or is it his name? Oh give me a break…the guy didn’t name himself! Sorry that Hillary feels entitled to the White HOuse because of Bill’s tenure….Maybe we should have just handed it to her on a silver platter….Haha. Get REAL DEMOCRATS! IF YOU WANT CHANGE AND TO BRING OUR TROOPS HOME AND TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY AND REWARD THE HARDWORKING EVERYDAY AMERICANS THEN YOU WILL VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA. IF NOT…..THEN FACE 4 MORE YEARS OF THE SAME BY VOTING FOR BUSH’S CLONE…JOHN MCSAME. OR MCBUSH OR WHATEVER HIS NAME IS.

I find it amusing that the conserviHacks like Hannity and Rush still try to play off like they actually have any influence over the MSP (mainstream people). Let’s see … they wanted Hillary so they could beat her in an election. Not only do they lose that battle with Obama winning, they actually present her with some stature by making good “thou shalt not lie” Christians voting for her, boosting her umbers. And the nominee they ‘support’ – hah! someone they’ve derided as a RINO “republican in name only” for years, who gained that nomination by trading his soul for a pair of flip flops.

Obama was wrong, it’s Hillary’s supporters who are bitter. Grow up and get over with it. This is politics and Hillary has lost. Listen to Hillary and support the winning candidate.

I can’t believe all the hostility towards John Edwards. Its amazing how some Hillary supporters think she should be the nominee no matter what the voters say. Edwards is entitled to support whoever he wants, its his right, and you should respect that. By the way, names don’t make a person. I’m sure there are some people named John who are sadistic murderers, and others named John who foretold the coming of Jesus….does that mean the name John is bad? No, and the same goes for Hussein…King Hussein of Jordan was a great man, and Saddam Hussein was an evil tyrant…but neither of them have anything at all to do with Barack Obama.

in wyoming? idaho? nebraska? utah?
washington dc?
mississippi and vermont?
HA H A HA HA HA
and in the rest of the states where she won by 10 % or more we had to split
the delegate votes by half…
this is a win? remember the republicans dont’ care about how we proportion our delegates
by affirmative action protocals…
and so doesn’t the general electorate in november

Sweat mother of Abraham Lincoln! I don’t get it all these post. If your a democrat then you are ultimately voting to support the party’s platform. Regardless of whether Obama or Clinton wins the nomination. If you don’t vote for Obama because you are not happy that Hillary didn’t win then you are a fool. A vote for McCain is a vote for Bush. Do you really want more of the same for the next 4 years? If you do then you are a bunch of hypocrites and have no business voting for Clinton or Obama.
And what is the deal with highlighting his middle name like its suppose to mean anything. It is a name for crying out loud! If my last name is Bundy does it mean I’m going to be a serial killer! Really what is the point

I have noticed not only in these political blogs but other blogs as well, that America has alot of anger and almost seemingly hate for others that do not agree with who should be president or if one does not believe the same as they do. None of us actually know any of those running for President, we only know what they tell us and what we research and who ever gets into office is not going solve all the worlds problems. I myself am voting for Barack, I can look beyond all the negative, name calling, slamming of his back ground, just as all of you that are behind Hillary are doing. If Hillary was the nominee I would vote for her, though I am for Barack, why because I do not want to see another 4 years of a republican in office. You know when I read all this that people say about Barack, how they make snide comments about his name, (which he had no choice in what his name is), it paints a picture in my mind of a outsider moving into a new area, going to a new school and everyone makes fun of him, just because they see him as different, and in Baracks case the media has tried to paint a bad image of him and it is sad that many times people are sucked into believe what the media portrays as the truth. As for John Edwards, doesn’t he have the right to support who ever he chooses, we do, I don’t need to get all bent out of shape just because those of you are backing Hillary, so why get all bent out of shape over John Edwards backing Barack. Some are saying on here that he sealed a deal with Barack, that you really don’t know and you don’t know that Hillary could have done the very same thing for some of her supporters, we don’t really know what goes on behind the scenes of politics, and who is lining whose palms, with money or promises.
If you are a true democrat and want to see a democrat in office, why would you vote republican just because your canidant did not get the nominee? Won’t you be screaming with anger even more so knowing another 4 years of Bushes politics are in office, aren’t you bringing more of the same hardship upon yourself and fellow Americans?
If your a real believer in Hillary why would you vote republican, when she says she will support Barack if he is the nominee, wouldn’t her followers, follow her lead?

Democrats across the nation are uniting under the candidate who is ahead in the delegate count according to the last five national polls. Obama’s lead over McCain is also beginning to widen. There may be a few followers of Rush Limabaugh’s “Operation Chaos” here along with the kind of wackos that sound like the kind of people who like Bill O’Riley (the irrational unsubstantiated attacks here are the proof of it).
None of it is strong enough to stop a movement of hundreds of thousands from becoming millions by November. We will number in the tens of millions by 2011 and will shift the course of this nation in ways that most don’t understand. Its not really the candidate that will bring lasting change; it’s the people behind him.
The last three special elections were already a referendum on the kind of divisive tactics that so many “supposed” Hillary supporters here are using. The polls prove that there are enough people in support of Obama for him to win the Presidency, so for all the bluster here, it comes down to this: we marched on the primary states and won the vast majority; we give more of our own money in millions to our candidate; and we will out work all of you to the White House, Congress, and eventually to the Supreme Court. It’s the proof of the commitment in the movement to “Change we can believe in.”

The voters will not accept him. There is an open rebellion at work in Democratic ranks.

Since 1916 no democractic presidential candidate has won the presidency without winning wva…
got it?
…and the last one who did win wva was bill clinton twice
ohio is a major swing state and pa is as well… EVERYONE understand this
& no dem nominee has ever won white house since 1964 johnson w/o winning ohio…
oregon is a joke in comparison to these state and karl rove knows it…
just check out how many trips bush and rove made to ohio in 04 in final two months
[twenty two if you need to know]
how many trips did they make to oregon?
and will obama win california or new york, really?
or will he truly win the west as some seriously out of touch howard dean dream team is stating…
i mean come on..obama winning …wyoming or idaho or idaho?
that’s laughable…
will obama who lost ohio and pa by over 10 % truly stand a chance in the fall in the midwest?
wva by 41% its a no go…
and the O will NOT carry the south either…where the blacks are outnumbered by three to one…republican voters…[hint that's why there was segregation, remember?]
but back to the north
he’s so indifferent to these major swing dem states in the midwest
he did not EVER visit ohio’s southern forty four counties once in a month
and never personally campaigned across wva himself…[was this smart for a unifying candidate?]
but yet had much more staff and field offices and out spent hillary by 3 to 1 or more, in every such state in midwest
but lost them in a major way, except indy…
its just not smart presidential politics nor strategy to put the second team in to win the majors…this is the big leagues billy bob
[ ps edwards did not win a single southern state for kerry in 04 and did nothing for the ticket in ohio as well
so much for his endorsement becoming a factor in the fall...where it would matter most ]

Paul, The voters have not said that Obama is our nominee. You say it, some say it, Edwards may say it, but we say no he is not. First of all, he doesn’t have the necessary delegates…there are more primaries to be conducted, and there is the question of FL and Michigan. This thing is not decided. Get your facts straight!

No one can claim the “nomination” until the convention but to be the presumptive nominee one must be closing in on the delegate count – Obama will have them after OR if not before – he is only 126 short – he wil pick them up in the next 5 primaries plus the superdelegates are marching one-by-one into his camp – 5-6 announce every day.

ohio pa and wva and california and rhonde island
by the way..rhode island has more delegates than many western states that obama won…by far
…and its so sad…
vermont was profiled higher than the win in rhode island and texas, almost
by many news agencies…
but…what is truly dumbfounding
is the affirmative action proportional delegate counting dem party rules
..and of course
if hillary is denied the 500,000 thousand votes she obtained against a month long national ad campaign by obaman fully fun in the state
then this is the biggest election fraud in U.S history…except for when the reconstruction era elected r b hayes over tilden…
….its simply stunning as hillary states often
that obama will even WANT to be a candidate nominee without having florida and michigan voters given a true chance to have one person one voter count
….would have known america’s howard dean, as short and shouty and intellectually curtailed as he is

Question for the Uber Hillary supporters? Straight answers much appreciated
1) Were you part of the crowd who torched Ralph Nader for being responsible for Bush’s appointments to the Supreme court. If so, would you vote for McCain knowing that you would be doing the same?
2) When you talk about 50 states to include MI and FL:
a) DO you think Hillary can win the general election without the AfAm vote?
b) Do you think its fair to penalize caucus states when talking about the popular vote, since you make no accomodations of numbers when talking adding up the numbers
c) is it fair to include PR in the “popular vote”, when they do not vote in the general election by virtue of their own decision to remain a commonwealth rather than a state

HILLARY SUPPORTERS AND INDEPENDENTS – BOYCOTT OBAMA: Ohio resident Cynthia Ruccia, a spokesperson for a group calling itself “Clinton Supporters Count Too,” said the group stands ready to boycott the Democratic Party if Clinton doesn’t win the nomination, and will work against superdelegates who support Obama over Clinton as a means of registering their displeasure with the party. “We have a plan to campaign against Obama,” the group said in a press release Thursday. “We have the (wo)manpower and the money to make our threat real. And there are millions of supporters who will back us up in the swing states. If you don’t listen to our voice now, you will hear from us later.” Ruccia tells ABC News that she believes “millions” of women share her group’s views, though they have only begun to make contact with like-minded women. They’re disgusted, she said, that Democratic Party leaders haven’t more aggressively denounced sexist media comments and coverage in the campaign, and are angry at the drumbeat for Clinton to get out of the race. “We’re just at the boiling point,” Ruccia said. “Women will sit back and be quiet about things for a while, but we’ve had enough. Unless Hillary is our nominee, we are not going to support the nominee.” Ruccia said she doesn’t necessarily view the disqualifying of delegates from Florida and Michigan as sexist in itself, but added: “I do believe the people there will not forget that Sen. Obama stood in the way of having their vote counted.”
This group is real, folks. If you are sick and tired of all of the media bias and those who have been trying to force Obama down our throats, we need to band together and make a difference. Donate to Hillary if you can at hillaryclinton.com, but contact this group in the meantime so that we can start spreading its message to all 50 states. let me say it again
ohio and pa are not equal to five western states like a nebraska oregon and idaho and wyoming…
the western states MEAN NOTHING IN THE FALL literally
nothing..when compared to ohio and pa and when combined with the idea that all mccain has to do is win indiana, which is very very likely and

I’m not bitter about this endorsement. I think it’s perfect that all the losers are flocking to Obama in the all boys network. Have it however you’d like, Hillary now or Hillary in 2012. I’ll be voting for Hillary Rodham Clinton for President in November, for a fact. And speaking of bitter….

THE INTEGRITY OF JOHN EDWARDS: Sometimes, a moment in time tells you all you need to know about a politician. Here is such a moment:
Monday, May 12, 2008: Edwards told CNN’s Larry King that he wasn’t prepared to make an endorsement. “What I don’t want to do is contribute to the divide,” he said. “At least for this moment, I think the reasonable thing for me to do is let voters make their decision.”
Tuesday, May 13, 2008: The voters “make their decision” in the West Virginia primary. The former first lady routed Mr Obama by 67% to 26% in West Virginia, and was the runaway leader with white and lower-income voters.
Wednesday, May 14, 2008: After the voters had “made their decision,” John Edwards endorses the candidate who the residents of West Virginia voted against by a margin of over two to one. So, on May 12, 2008 he says the reasonable thing for him to do is to let the voters decide; on the next day the voters decide overwhelmingly in favor of Hillary Clinton; and on day three he endorses the losing candidate. This has to be one of the quickest and most despicable flip-flops in recent history. Obama must have offered Edwards something very special . . .

TCG,
The bad news for you is that more good Democrats have pulled the lever for Hillary over Obama, though the Democratic party, under Howard Dean’s missed leadership, is doing its best to blow off those millions in Florida and Michigan that have done so. Oh yeah, the rules, the rules. Hey, guess who has now has substantial control of the rules committee. Yep, it will all be within the rules, let’s follow the rules. Fact: Clinton has a provable larger constituency than Obama.
One other sad fact, though, places like Texas awarded 2x and 3x delegates to African American districts, some form of atonement I suppose. It’s within the rules, though, unfortunately, the general election doesn’t follow such rules, I guess you are hoping Obama is capable of a miracle.

It is very important to register your displeasure with the way this election is being handled by telling Howard Dean what you think. I e-mailed him Tuesday evening and last night when the cowardly Edwards endorsed Obama to let him know I didn’t care who Edwards endorses. Hillary supporters want MI and FL votes counted…they want her to be treated fairly by the superdelegates and, last but not least, I warned him that Obama would probably not be elected, that there is widespread and mounting displeasure if he is nominated.

Posted by: Tina from Florida | May 16, 2008, 12:51 am 12:51 am

Let’s stick to reason:
Pollster.com state by state polls prove that Obama can win the Presidency without WV.
Obama is polling very competitively against McCain in every state that Hillary won, so clearly Democrats are uniting under him or the trend would be moving away from Obama toward McCain instead of toward Obama as it is now. (e.g. Ohio: http://www.pollster.com/08-OH-Pres-GE-MvO.php)
1.5 million Obama supporters are not naive cult followers who don’t realize that Obama is a product of an imperfect political system. His willingness to reject the influence of wealthy donors as compared to Hillary and McCain will make him the most independent person to ever step into the oval office. The Clinton (e.g. The Telecom Act) and the Bush (e.g. Haliburton) history shows how much influence the people who pay for a Presidential campaign have once they assume office. Because donations over $2300 do not make up the majority of Obama’s money, he will be better positioned to tell the Oil companies that we are moving toward renewable source, better able to tell the health insurance companies that a government run agency will bring needed competition and options for the uninsured; and so many other causes important to our future.
two-cats, I’m not sure where there is any historical evidence to support the idea that young voters come out for the primaries and stay behind in the general. I think you may have that mixed up with past youth registration that did not materialize into general election turnout. Republican worst fears are being realized: Generation Obama is not only registering, they are coming out to vote in Primaries; a time of low voter involvement. Worse than that, you should see how many of these young people are so pissed off at what a mess Republicans have made of things that they are now active engaged members of the movement that will move us away from the “let’s invade Iraq” rhetoric of Rush Limbaugh and the “if you don’t agree with me shut up” politic of Bill O’Reilly.
Fellow Obama supporters, let’s agree to give to our candidate every time we see others employ the kind of tactics that drove Bush to the White House and our country down. Every month when the quarterly reports come out we can rejoice in the fact that we are putting our money where our mouth is. We are coupling that with the work in the streets that have some many people here writing irrationally in their fear of what is coming. 129 delegates to go. It’s gonna be a great May 20th. If the superdelegates continue bringing the party together, we should begin to shift our focus more and more on McCain.

Edwards and Obama are a lot alike……Obama would not renounce Uncle Jeremiah, then, when he was hurting his campaign, he threw him under the tacks…flip-flop. Edwards said he wouldn’t endorse a candidate, let the voters decide (which they did in West Virginia), then, two days later, endorsed the loser, Obama…flip-flop. Richardson’s state was won by Hillary, then Richardson endorsed Obama…flip-flop. Obama caught in lie about NAFTA, then lied again to cover up…flip-flop. So now, the “presumptive” demoncratic nominee will be Obama….and, in November, we will see the GOP “flip” Obama and watch him “flop” as he loses the election for the Democrats. Without Hillary, vote McCain !

lets put it this way
….obama wins the nomination
and loses big…in ohio and pa
and in wva…
and in ky
and in tennessee
and in south carolina
and in georgia
and in alabama
and in utah
and in dakota’s
and in arkansas
and in texas
and in florida
and all because…
he wanted to be the first black dem presidential nominee in us history
and by doing this for himself and for those who support him in the major leagues
he can say..’we have done right by the black history and voters of american dem party pols…’
…but they take this approach
by affirmative action proportional delegate urban delegate higher than average weighted delegate methodology
…AND by doing the EXACT opposite of years of us supreme court precedent and
the voting rights act and the entire civil rights movement of the modern ear
stood for
by DIS ENFRANCHISING
the basic notion of the one person one vote ideal
…inohio…and in southern states
the white voters one person one vote
was diluted
and don’t even begin to ask the latino’s in texas as to what happened to their one person one vote
ideal in terms of how many delegates vs the urban houston and dallas and austin urban citizens cast…
its SO VERY UNAMERICAN that the recent new iranian elections had more representational merit than did those in this democracy primary
why not the problem in the rep party
becuase they are amazingly more democractic in their nominating process than the party that brought you the
voting rights act of 1964
ironically professors and observers and civil rights adovates
are going to be writing and discussing this dirty little secret for decades to come
how american obtained the first national party AA nominee w/u using
the basic principles of the Historical
principles enshrined in the very deaths of goodman, shwermer and chaney
and the birmingham children’s death
which led to the voting rights act
not too mention, even more ironicall
jfk’s death
…by disenfranching millions of voters
in mich and florida UNTIL AFTER A NOMINEE IS CHOSEN
no matter what reason
and then ….doing an about face to make it appear pc by adding them AFTER the fact
we have cheated..not only the hillary effort
but the very american notion and the very dignity of those who gave so much over hundreds of years to make
political equality matter in this nation
one person one vote
was not destroyed in our present
by the bush attack on civil liberties
…as much as it has been by howard dean and the obamaites
willingness to make an affirmative action presidency the first one in us history
so much for ‘working the system’ as obama likes to often say…
…its sad…but he used every close reading of teh national dem party rules to acheive
a very very split and controverted outcome which ended up not unifying this nation
but splitting the greatest progressive party this nation has known in recent decades….
way to go….my ‘new politics’ friends
winning the path to highest corridors of power by selling out the very landmark notion of every voter vote counts equally
…48 out of 50 states
does not equal a democracy…guys and girls
and its such a facade…every true genuine believer of american ideals
is and/or ought to be ashamed
or at least aware of what has happened
to this american experienment in democracy
not by bush and cheney
but by dean, kennedy
and the dailey machine from chicago
amazing stuff

Edwin, I think you have me confused with another poster. I have not commented on the youth vote. However, on another subject, I do not want the Democratic Party to put forth a candidate who is not electable, that being Obama. Since 1916, no Democrat has taken the Oval Office without winning W. Virginia and Ohio, also. I think we have a better candidate than Obama to offer Americans…a candidate they know, who has tremendous experience, whose dedication to all people is not questioned, who has demonstrated she can win the swing states, and who has a spouse who has a reasonable opinion about America. Obama’s past associations leave too many questions unanswered for average Americans. They will not put him in office. I firmly believe this.

Just like John “opportunist” Edwards, Obama would appease Lucifer if he thought it would benefit him politically.
Whether or not the subtext of Bush’s remarks today were directed at Obama is irrelevant. Obama took the bait because he knows his stance to meet without preconditions with Mahmud Ahmadinejad, and the leaders of Syria, Cuba, and North Korea won’t appeal to the vast majority of the electorate. It’s keeping up appearances in Obamaland.
Everything Obama does is in defense of his own bad judgment. He’s sorry he called a reporter “sweetie.” He’s disappointed about his reprehensible and racist pastor Wright. He barely knows Weathermen terrorist Bill Ayers. He hardly knows the indicted Tony Rezko. He’s sorry the public somehow misinterpreted his closed-door elitist remarks about small town, blue-collar, gun-owners and church-goers. He didn’t mean this gaffe or that misstatement. He misspoke, he didn’t mean it, he didn’t hear it, he doesn’t know him, it wasn’t in context, he wasn’t there. The hope ‘n change man sure does a lot of changin’.
With all that Obama allegedly has not done, not seen, not heard, not said, didn’t mean, never felt, and doesn’t believe, what exactly has he done, seen, heard, meant, felt, and does believe? Whatever voters want, if it’ll get him elected. Where ever the winds of political fortune blow, so goes Obama, and Richardson, and Edwards…

Stories and movies about political intrigue are almost always popular. But if any TV writer had come up with a script which said we’d be electing a “former” Muslim named Hussein as President seven years after the Muslims hit us hard, the script would be rejected as ridiculously far-fetched (or maybe accepted as a comedy or parody).
But don’t worry about me; at 69 years old I’ll be dead soon enough, and the next generation can tear America to shreds without resistance from us last-remaining “dinosaurs”. Have fun!

Any of you who believe there exist honest politicians are all super stupid. As part of their job, they have to say what you want to hear. So, be smart and stop excusing one or another a liar.

appalachian blue,
What follows is why Obama supporters have good reason to believe he will win in Nov.
1. We are competitive in three of the largest states you mentioned. We will win all of them.
2. Our position now is as strong as Kerry’s was in 2004 and we have so much more going for us.
3. We have twice as much money coming in than does McCain
4. We have the strongest grassroots infrastructure in modern Presidential history. Thanks to Hillary, we are organized in every state and will make Republicans pay for every square inch of this country. (I really can’t wait until 2010, when we take our wins and really drive into the supposed red and find that Americans are sick of what the Republicans have done to this country and are ready to get involved in the Party that will bring better health, end corporate welfare, move us toward a sustainable future, wage a smart war on global terrorism and end needless war.)
ab, here are the state polls for the states you mentioned (most of which Kerry “the moderate” lost)
Obama vs McCain
42 vs 43 OH
46 vs 39 PA
43 vs 44 FL
35 vs 53 WV
33 vs 58 KY
31 vs 58 TN
45 vs 48 SC
40 vs 54 GA
36 vs 55 AL
39 vs 50 UT
38 vs 44 ND
34 vs 51 SD
33 vs 57 AR
39 vs 52 TX

democratformccain, you should realize that the entire Democratic primary procedure has been run from the “Star Chamber” (the DNC headquarters). They have steered the nominating process from the get-go, and are about to take the entire party right down the tubes. The only thing which could save them is the fact that McCain is no prize, either. He doesn’t even have the support of all Republicans, and now Ron Paul and at least one Libertarian are thinking of running, to make SURE the Democrats win in November. This election is just one big mess!

Posted by: Rhys | May 16, 2008, 1:26 am 1:26 am

Good God Almighty…
…Okay…here’s the deal…Obama and Hillary Democrats…
STFU!!!! Stop bickering like 5 year olds on the playground, otherwise NEITHER candidate will win in November, and we’ll have to face 4 more (perhaps 8 more) years of Bush-Cheney Republicanism in the form of John McCain. Why do I say this?
Because there are enough stupid people out there who, simply because they don’t agree with Hillary or Barack, will vote for McCain out of spite, SPLITTING the Democratic ticket and causing McCain to win in a LANDSLIDE, even though the Republicans are HATED right now. Now, I don’t like Hillary at all. I’m a registered Democrat. Will I vote for McCain if Hillary is the nominee? NO. I’ll vote for my party before I vote in spite.
So, Hillary supporters…please, by all means, vote in spite if Hillary’s finger is that far up your own @$$holes, but I will spit in your face if I hear “OH MY GOD! WHY IS GAS $6.75 A GALLON UNDER MCCAIN?!” in 2 years. But Democrats, if you want to see this nation chance, and if you want to prove to the GOP that the Democratic party isn’t a clusterf*** of idiotic stoners or welfare addicts who pander to a bunch of charismatic lawyers, then STOP THE BICKERING! Shake hands, make up, and find a plan.
“An enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
But this constant “Hillary is bad…” “Obama is bad…” is total bullshit, to quote Sen. Biden.
(And P.S. I live in West Virginia…and I couldn’t help but notice how RACIST the Hillary supporters were here, calling the black Secret Service guys “colored” and calling them “boy” like the old South. THAT is why I don’t like Hillary; the majority of her supporters that I’ve met are RACISTS).

Hmmmm. The ABC moderators must be sleeping tonight. I tried to post something semi-substantive earlier, but bobb (aka boob) and Sluggo seem to have the floor. I have no idea what they’re talking about, or even which candidate they’re supporting. Perhaps that part is moot. :-)

Posted by: Emily | May 16, 2008, 1:29 am 1:29 am

ncdem – dream on! Hillary will not be the nominee nor will Obama pick her for the VP spot. Her only hope is that she can still hang onto her senate seat with all of the damage she has done to the party and the party leaders she has trampled over. It really does get you that Obama came out of nowhere – beat the Clinton political machine, a war chest of money, name recogniton.
Robert Creamer has this to say about Senator Obama today:
Ten Reasons why Obama won the nomination:
Great Team
All-States Strategy
Clinton No Plan B
Excellence in Execution
Explosive Obama Fundraising
Obama Out-Communicated Clinton Using One Consistent Message
Hope and Inspiration trumped Fear and Anger
Unity Trumped Division
Change Trumped Experience
Obama is an Extraordinary Candidate. Inspirational, articulate, brilliant, funny, attractive and naturally empathetic – his history as a community organizer, his experience abroad, his beautiful family, accomplished wife, and adorable kids: Obama is the kind of candidate any campaign manager would want in any year. As the campaign tested him, he showed he was cool, deliberate and effective under fire. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-creamer/top-10-reasons-obama-defe_b_101307.html
And Obama didn’t blow off the results in Florida. Like others have pointed out, he agreed to the same rules and Clinton. She tried to change them at midnight, and Obama called her out for cheating. As he should have. Clinton has similarly fought revote or recount methods that don’t favor her. Obama isn’t the only demon on that front, so let’s get our facts straight on that. And certainly no worse than Clinton discounting the validity of the conservative states that “don’t matter,” or discounting the caucuses. I continue to find it amusing that Clinton supporters are so pissed at Obama for “not wanting people to vote” when Clinton is the one crisscrossing the country talking about all the irrelevant states and their irrelevant voters. Like THAT’S a winning strategy.
Enough said – time for bed – moving into my new house tomorrow. Besides, it is hard to carry on an intelligent debate with people who are so narrow-minded that destroying the party is more important than getting Obama in the White House. I would have voted for Hillary had she been the nominee. I would have had to hold my nose and turn blue but I would have done it just the same.

I bet a lot of people are digging into the Trinity Church tapes now looking for footage of Michelle Obama. The details of what the Republicans have supposedly found in the tapes are discussed on No Quarter and HillBuzz. Was this to be an October surprise from the Republicans and can the media or the Dems find it also in time to take appropriate action?

I used to have such respect for Edwards, until now. Does he REALLY believe the American people are THAT STUPID?! Just Monday, he was going on about how Hillary was “in a tough place” and how we should “let this play out”. 2 days later you say we all “need to get behind OBAMA”. Why the (VERY SUDDEN) change of heart? If he’s not interested in being VP, then the POPE is not catholic.

Posted by: TiredoftheBS | May 16, 2008, 1:31 am 1:31 am

Who would of known……at one time I thought Edwards was classy guy. A tear may have ran down his cheek when referencing his father tonight but he sure didn’t give a rats a__ for the voice of hard-working (avg. income $30.000) West Virginians. Talk a bout ANOTHER slap in the face by yet ANOTHER “new politics” kinda politician.
The ONLY candidate that represents a NEW KIND of politics is Hillary. The good’ ol boy network is just too darn threatened by her strength, her fearlessness, her experience, her fight for justice…..
NEVER!!!! WILL I VOTE FOR OBAMA. If he thinks Hillary’s supporters are going to line up like blind sheep and support his devisive, elitist a__.
WRONG !
There are millions of us out there that REALLY want the politician that will deliver a NEW KIND of politics. The fearless, fighter for the people….HILLARY!

C’mon folks, there’s no need to resort to personal insults, such as those about Michele Obama’s looks. What IS important is her anti-American attitude; who cares what she LOOKS like?! But remember, BHO sat and listened to hateful rantings in church for 20 years, but didn’t realize how hateful and intolerant Wright’s sermons were. Won’t he make an exciting White House “spiritual adviser”?
I graduated from high school in 1956; this is NOT the same country in which I grew up. Our ancestors must be spinning like lathes in their graves.

Posted by: Rhys | May 16, 2008, 1:35 am 1:35 am

Paul, Rant on but we won’t go away. We do not feel Obama can win, we do not think he shares our values, we don’t like his surly wife, and we won’t have him crammed down our throats by greedy superdelegates on the take for their reelection. I don’t think Democrats have very good sense about how to win an election. The American people will vote their opinions and the Democratic Party is making a mistake if they put up Obama.

Posted by: Emily | May 16, 2008, 1:38 am 1:38 am

hey paul
…i have worked on hillary’s campaign in five states and can say outright
you’re statement is simply grossly
UNTRUE that hillary’s supporters are racists…
that’s bullshit
i’m a civil rights lawyer..who worked in inner city neighborhoods for 14 yrs
and …i may add
…you must NOT have campaigned AT ALL
in this election…because the racial comments and actions were NOT LIMITED TO SOME OF THE BIGOTS FOR ONE CANDIDATE
do you understand??
i know because i have been to five states
and
no ONE IS HEARING ABOUT THE ABUSE HILLARY SUPPORTERS AND VOLS HAVE EXPERIENCED AT THE HANDS OF MANY BLACK CITIZENS
why?
we have too much dignity TO NOT MAKE IT KNOWN TO THE WORLD FOR THE CAUSE OF DEMOCRATIC PARTY
UNLIKE SOME OF THE OBAMITES WHO USE EVERY RACIST ACT OR COMMENT TO MAKE OUT THE HILLARY CMAPAIGN AS IF IT WERE NOTHING BUT RACISTS
you need to come out and play my friend
and get into the real world
and see what is truly happening on the ground
i can tell you literally hundreds of storieis
but i will leave you with this one
a young black 16 yr old AA youth
holding out high and proudly
a HILLARY SIGN right in the middle of a very poor and urban black section of a major southern city
i could have wept paul…when i saw this …because
for us hillary supporters
this young 16 yr black male
risking SO MUCH IN A STATE WHERE SHE WAS OUTGUNNED FOUR TO ONE IN FIANANCES AND OFFICES AND SUPPORTERS
WAS STANDING UP FOR A PRINCIPLE FREE OF HIS OWN SKIN COLOR
i have to wonder…my friend
if you have seen this kind of courage
and if so…i wonder why was he doing it??
did he know something that many like you latte liberals did not?
we who have been in the trenches…
are neither racists nor haters
but believes in the person with teh most experience adn the most fair policies and greatest appeal to the widest audience
will be the best for our nation and our party…
and that is hillary..the one who did NOT recieve the
proportional delegate favorities of the affirmative action program employed by howard dean
tell this to the southern ohio forty four county white folks
and then tell it to the latinos of south texas
if they enjoyed their vote being diluted by what the african american’s used to rightly and justly
head into the jails of america for in protest over
and some white and blacks persons of concience died for
…why then ought a white woman
be given less delegate measurements than that of a black male
is this equality?
is this racist to ask for just results?
…i’m afraid…if it is..
our cause as a free and open society today
is largely itself…
symbolic and lost upon a era of political correctness

yes that is what we should focus on… nobody dwelled on when michelle said she was proud of america for the first time in her life etc … just when thinking people hear stuff like that it makes you take another look at the person and think “well I can understand that now”

Vote for the good of American people.
Choose Hillary.
If Hillary is not the nominee… then vote for McCain who at least loves America too.
But I would rather choose Hillary so that our tired troops will come home sooner than year 2012.My heart breaks everytime I hear the news saying that another soldier was killed.
I do not trust someone that says, “Change we can believe in” I bet we really can believe that change for sure.
A great example? Just look at what happened with our country for 8 years now. Yeah!!! that is really some change that we can believe in!!! We do not want a repetition of that.
We cannot and do not trust another un-experienced man leading the country again… our country has changed a lot.

Independent Voter: I won’t even justify your slew of filth with a response.
Two-cats: I don’t really have to rant on, and you go right ahead…for my candidate is just around 100 delegates away from the finish line…
The question is: will you continue to hurt Hillary by destroying her party? Think about that.
Oh, and for a nightcap: Bill has had a record of being surly and uncouth during this campaign.
*Hillary-supporter response: THAT’S A LIE!!!*
Then why did they pull Slick Willy off the campaign trail by mid-February? Probably because he was pissing off too many people. Put down the copies of Living History, stop listening to Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter, and realize that Hillary and Barack aren’t too different in their politics…

…thanks both….we have to keep it real and keep it on the low
we have the better candidate…we know by far
its not a hit or racist thing to say this
just ask Shirley Jackson Lee from Houston and/or the beautiful Erika Alexander right?
…right?
i mean why are so many young black voters involved on OUR SIDE?
are they racist?
are they not concerned about america?
are these powerful black women somehow being uncle toms for the cause?
its amazing…
but we do have to keep the focus not on race as much as facts
and if the delegate math thing is truly exposed
for what it is..hillary would be WAY AND AFAR the winner…that she is already
…not too say…howard dean and
[and of course, yes donna brazile…are way too over involved in making ‘fair’
the symbolic victory of “every voter”
but in reality…
they wish to trump the will of the people
and then in a very orewellian most UNdemocratic party fashion
lable it
“teh will of the people have spoken”
just like animal farm
2 plus 2 equals five
…especially if we in power say so…
its the ronald raygun motto
borrowed from hitler
“say teh big lie enoug times and if its bigger than the rest of them
it will eventually become accepted
as true…politically”
and with this…kind of “positive thinking” [it was truly called this by the propanda machine of hitler…’legal positivism”
&…with it…
came the rise of the Third Reich…
its always the first rule of ending democractic instincts
make the people believe they are making change occur
by telling what the change will be

ncdem,
It takes two to tango; so if your girl Hillary wants to lock up the DNC until August and destroy ALL chances of the Democrats winning in November, then have fun with that. If Hillary files the case, will it be Obama’s fault? Gee, everything else has been apparently, all because he didn’t stand down when Hillary won New Hampshire.
And Appalachian Blue…I’m not trying to belittle your remarks, but I dare you to find where I said that ALL Hillary supporters were racist. I said, I have heard the terms “colored,” “blackie,” “ni**ers,” et cetera more in the past 5 months from Hillary supporters than Obama, McCain, and Independents combined. What does that say from my POV? That SOME, NOT ALL, Hillary supporters ARE RACISTS, to a HIGHER percentage than others based on my control (scientific terms here)…which means that I still stand behind my commentary that many of the Hillary supporters I have met are indeed racists.

Posted by: Paul | May 16, 2008, 1:56 am 1:56 am

So all these crazy Clitonitas out here are making Hillary look worse then she is to anybody who isn’t already in her camp. Some of these comments are a diservice to the entire Democratic party and esppecialy Hillary. All the hard working supporters that have put their lives into this race will have done it for nothing if Hillary is pegged as the reason the dems lost 08 because she couldn’t rangle in all her supporters after getting them all riled up.

maybe ..its your experience on line or something…
but have you tried to campaign in the southside of pittsburgh?
or in the inner city of say a southern city in nc?
i don’t think so and you would not say this “more than his, hils people are racist
i lived w/ two very liberal and dedicated but hilary supporters who would have been killed if they did not stop canvassing a black neighborhood
in a very nice and low tone…
by the way..they were saved by a older black female who was simply great and very very concernd for them
so…please…stop making such divisive comments largely from your comfort zone behind the keyboard
and i don’t mean this in a nsty manner
just come out and play…w/ a while
…maybe in certain sections…it can be true…
but a 92% black vote in indiana and nc and many many american cities
does not equat to some kind of racial politically divide
i mean…as i said…
i was literally doing the work of God Himself…
in the inner city and being saved by the Clinton Justice dept in the nineties
so when i hear people anywhere saying
bill said this and bill did that
…i have to sit back and laugh out loud and then
weep for my country
and for those in the inner city who will suffer because
they not whom they …will get in the fall
just ask shirley jackson lee
….and lets find out where this nation is headed…
no one knows for certain…
but demonstrated committement to civil rights at the highest levels
IS the legacy of the clinton adminnistration…i know…because
i was ….involved directly with them
so i do NOT like when people say hillary supporters are basically or more than his
racists…
its …wholly…and completely
and categorically
untrue
and its seriously untrue if YOU HAVE EVER BEEN TO EVEN ONE OF HER FIELD OFFICES ANYWHERE IN AMERICA

yea and the BO Obamabots talk about how Hillary will win at all costs… they telegraph what they are doing by accusing the other candidate of it … classic Karl Rove… can we guess who he might be advising?

the ignorance of obama supporters to blame others for that which they have done to their own candidate and the arrogance to believe that he is infallible and without flaws……his inevitable failure will always be someone else’s fault, not his or his “supporters”….

So people ask, ‘why are the Clinton supporters so angry?.
Many of us are hard working, lower-middle, middle- class Americans who don’t feel we have a voice. Months and months and months of the media and the DNC shoving Obama down our throats. Scandal after scandal revealed only to have the media powerhouses spin it to favor Obama. We’re fed up with the so-called democratic process be everything but DEMOCRATIC. The question is…. who REALLY determines the nominee. The votes continue to be tallied….. Hillary is ahead. Hmmmmm.

Posted by: catherine in nm | May 16, 2008, 2:12 am 2:12 am

the naivete of many obama supporters regarding political history, politics in general, and compromise is one reason why so many are turning against them……we believe Senator Clinton is the best candidate, but your attitude and the poor judgment and hypocrisy of your candidate make it near impossible for us to ever support his candidacy….

A firstread blogger asked that Obama supporters list FIVE things Senator Obama has accomplished. Well, here’s ELEVEN:
1. Obama has ELEVEN years of Senate experience to Hillary’s EIGHT. He was in the Illinois state senate for 8 years and has been in the U.S. senate since January 2005. In the state senate he sponsored 780 bills, of which 280 were signed into law. In the U.S. senate he has sponsored about 152 bills and resolutions, and cosponsored about 427.
2. He worked as a community organizer in Chicago, making $13 an hour, helping thousands of people who had lost manufacturing jobs get back on their feet (jobs, health care, housing). He also helped register 150,000 voters.
3. Obama sponsored the Health Care Justice Act in 2004, which “encourages Illinois to implement a health care plan that provides access to a full range of preventive, acute and long-term health care services.”
4. He sponsored a 2003 bill that expanded KidCare and FamilyCare, health insurance programs for low-income families in Illinois which led to more than 150,000 additional people receiving health insurance through these programs.
5. He introduced a bill that required that police officers tape interrogations. This bill passed in the Senate 58-0. The Governor who originally opposed this bill, signed it into law.
6. He increased the minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.50.
7. Obama cosponsored Secure Orderly Immigration Act by John
McCain. It passed 62-36.
8. He Worked with republican senator Lugar to expand and author a
program to locate & dismantle stray Russian WMD’s left over
from the cold war after the disbanding of the USSR.
9. In the first two weeks of the 110th Congress, Senator Obama helped lead the Senate to pass the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act a comprehensive ethics and lobbying reform bill, by a 96-2 vote. This landmark bill was signed into law by the President in September 2007. The final bill that the Congress passed closely mirrored and drew key provisions in a bill that Senators Obama and Senator Feingold introduced in January 2007 to establish a “gold standard” for reform
10. He toured Kuwait, Jordan, Israel, Palestinian territories and told
Palestinian Authority Abbas that the United States would never recognize
Hamas leaders until they renounced mission to attack Israel.
11. As an Illinois State Senator, he helped pass the state’s first major ethics reform bill in 25 years.
Would you like me to go on? Oh and here’s an 11th accomplishment: He beat the Clintons! Not just Hillary, but all three of the Clintons. The Clinton brand is VERY powerful. They have been on the political scene for decades. Everyone is a familiar with them; they have strong ties with a whole host of Democratic leaders and many states as well. I mean, they were Preisdent and First Lady for 8 years! Obama was not really well-known outside of Illinois until 2004. Yet he has managed to run a better campaign than them and has beat them. That’s HUGE.
People shouldn’t take the candidates and the media at their word. Go to the candidates’ Senate Web sites and their campaign Web sites and READ what they have done and plan to do. INFORM YOURSELF.

Sluggo: Sence when is it “human nature” to hate your savior, TWICE none the less. I think you have an inferiority complex to be thinking you have to kick the a$$ of somebody who helped you or hate them. I think the French are upset because they nolonger see America as the shinning city on a hill top anymore. I wish you republicans actualy would look up what Regan did instead of just talk about him all the time. I don’t think the gipper would like to hear the US talk about its ally’s so badly. I sure the republican founders are rolling in there graves to find out the republicans truned out to be the racist war mongering party.

Two-cats,
I can see that happening, and do not deny that it is. Like me, that is of your personal experience though.
The thing is, I thought the Democrats were supposed to be about racial unity? But it seems that we are more divided than we originally thought. I am a white male supporting Obama, and the reason why is because I don’t trust the Clintons on areas such as civil rights, supporting the military, et cetera, because during the 1990s they failed at doing so. Bill signed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996 to get conservative votes in the election. That was a cheap move, to sell out 10% of our society simply so he could live in the White House for another 4 years. But that’s not even the worst.
My father was in the Navy, and he was earning less money as a First Class Petty Officer in 1995 than as a Second Class Petty Officer in 1992. Many servicemen and -women were forced out of the service at 19 and a half years, 6 months shy of retirement, simply so the government wouldn’t have to pay for their healthcare.
Bill signed an executive order in September, 1994, that ordered all dependents living in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to evacuate due to a water shortage made so by his incessant importation of Haitian refugees to the base. I was part of this group, at age 7. We left for the United States with a promise from Bill Clinton’s defense department that we would get money for rent, food, gasoline, a used car, and small purchases (clothing, shoes, etc.) But once we left, the money never came. My brother got sick, nearly dying twice, so whatever money we could tap out of our savings went to emergency room bills. By December of 1994 I had to help my mother steal a Christmas tree from the Salvation Army, a tree we had to lean on the wall in our apartment because we didn’t have a stand; a tree we decorated with yarn and construction paper, simply to have a good Christmas.
I’m sorry, but I cannot trust Hillary, and should Obama turn out to be a racist like Rev. Wright, I would rather deal with that then have to watch another mother crying herself to sleep in a hospital waiting room, after being told by a doctor that because she was so poor, the best they could do for her dying two-year-old son was to make him comfortable; she had been promised money by the Clintons, but it was just another broken promise. The Clintons have screwed my family before, why should I trust them again?

as for obama’s sate senate record
we ALL by now know how he came by passing “280 bills” in his name
it wasn’t because he thought of these bills himself…
his mentor and close kingpin ‘merchant of legistlation”…and elder black state senate leader…
knew obama was ambitious and moved these bills ALL IN A YEAR…
…and if you think you can compare
even two terms in a state senate
to even one year in the us senate
then you must be …a neophyte…at politics
……finally
hillary wrote national legistlatiion and proposals twenty five years ago…
…and had a critical role in the making of various national legistlative initiatives
including the chips program, the head start programs [which largely helps inner city urban poor for the past two decades or more]
and has been in eighty separate countries
and is a full working member of the
european union…
which is basically a diplomatic status only inferred by merit upon those who are members
….
while obama was in diapers in other words
she was writing national policies
for the nation
so please…do not EVEN TRY TO COMPARE THEIR RECORDDS IN TERMS OF LEGISTLATIVE INiATIVES it is silly to do so…
…by the way…
i have more experience than obama in both civil rights and helping more poor people
get higher salaries in comparison
and i did it over 15 years ago myself
and i did it at a much younger age and
w/o as much compenstation
and i have risked my life for people of color for …many years
..and have helped the working poor myself thru high state legislative iniatives
in ohio…a major state just like his
and did it…without expecting a political career to made in the process
out of any of it…
..we did it gbecasue we truly believed in what such work stood for
…’
and i never became rich in and on my way to working on behalf of the poor and the downtrodden and especially
could not consider just because i have done more than he…loads more than he
at a n younger age
i would qualify as a president candidate
at any time…
its just a non sequiter
and its bizarre
ncdem
and two cats
i have to get some rest
i’m headed out for kentucky
to make sure the totals there equal
that of wva
and that all of us
“dumb under 50,000 and uneducated white folks”
can make our voices heard…yet one more time
in this amazing national debate and primary race
…are you headed there too?
come on down
and we’ll turn even more heads when the totals equal wva
ok?
good night

Paul, Hillary is not Bill. But beyond that, I do not believe the American people will put Obama in office for these reasons: He has not demonstrated at the polls in Democratic states that he can win, he has not won bellwether states, and, above all, he has not won the important swing states. If he can’t beat Hillary spending 3 and 4 to 1, I don’t think he can beat McCain.

Well I am not a repub, not that it really even matters. People should make up their minds on the issues not the party. I do however have a good deal of republican friends that have become disenfranchised with the republican party lately. In our discussions of the history of politics with my friends we always try to look at and find what was good and bad during each administration regardless of party lines. I think it is kindda stupid to try to insult a person by calling them a republican or democrat.

paul….apologies for your situation and hope everyone is better…chances are, you are impossible to persuade to support Senator Clinton……but that does not change the fact that she is the best candidate out there for the great majority of people, children, troops and the world……she has the qualifications, the preparation, the resources, the intelligence, the foresight, the tenacity, the fortitude and the insight to see what’s coming and what needs to be done and she will fight with her friends and work with her enemies to make sure the most people get the most benefit, because you can’t make all the people happy all the time, but that won’t prevent the workaholic Junior Senator from New York from trying to do just that……you do what you have to for yourself and your family…..my duty to my son, my family and my own conscience dictates that I support the one candidate I know will be the best President for them: Senator Hillary Clinton

Good night, Appalachian blue. Keep up the good work!

Posted by: Two-cats | May 16, 2008, 2:41 am 2:41 am

Part 1
I’ve been a Republican for most of my life – I’m a Christian, with conservative values – both on social and fiscal issues. But in the past two years, I’ve said, “I’m a political agnostic – there are two parties, but I don’t believe in either of them.” And I’m also like most of Rush’s listeners – I’ve read enough books by people who’ve been close to the Clintons to know that they are dangerous. And so, when I heard that Hillary was beaten in Iowa by Barack Obama, I perked up. And then, I started watching the primaries on Tuesday just for the thrill of seeing her get her butt kicked.
But right now, Hillary’s ego and ambition have guaranteed that this will go to the election. She doesn’t need Rush for that. But you just have to look at the numbers from the primaries (you can see them in several places – Fox has them on their website state by state) and you can see that the number of voters in all of these states shows that the Republicans were outnumbered by 3 to 1 and sometimes more in most of the states with primaries. So, if you’re going to vote strategically – you need to be doing everything in your power to make sure Hillary is not standing on the steps in January with Chelsea and Bill at her side being sworn in as President. (And while Rush is looking over his invite to the Inaugural ball, all of his followers are going to be there saying, “I helped do THIS to our country!”) What strikes me as odd is that Rush is so quick to brush off the questions about “what if she wins?” I think he’s more motivated by his personal beef with McCain than anything.
What bothers me the most about what I’m seeing the re-emergence of the deflection of attention and the incredible spin machine that the Clintons have. I first noticed when after Super Tuesday, the top story was “Harold Ickes said”, or “Wolfson of the Clinton campaign said…” Sidney Blumenthal has been sending emails that are just outright lies about Obama to conservative magazine editors. The email that went viral with saying things like “the Muslim terrorists want to gain a foothold in our government…” came from the Clinton camp and was circulated to who knows how many millions (I’ve gotten it twice). It makes me wonder if that’s how they’re going to operate when she’s in office? It’s working pretty effectively for her so far.
Rush is very careful about telling his faithful listeners, “hey – this isn’t the general election, I’m just trying to create chaos…” But while Rush has no children in the armed services, while Rush is economically fairly well protected from the economic setbacks the rest of us are facing, and Rush will probably be able to make a lot of money with the Clinton saga – Part II (and may even get an invite to the Inaugural Ball), life is not going to be that easy for the rest of us if Bill and Hillary are back in the White House.
Despite Rush’s simplistic analysis, Hillary and Bill Clinton are not the same as Barack Obama. The difference that scares me is the first, the back-room deals and profit-motive of the Clintons and second their attitude towards the military and foreign relations. By sticking to the high road, Barack Obama has not brought up these glaring issues, but this is my perspective:
(Part 1 ends)

you are just taking that info from your parents thats the problem with the young people trying to take charge…I know of someone who is a republican had their 18 yr old daughter call her on primary day and said,”uh, mom, why isnt Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton on the ballot?” …”Because you are a republican dear!” the point is the yohnger vote is against Hillary because the dont know any better and the african-americans against her are doign it out of false vengence

Paul
Hillary is not Bill you know it thats dumb to say

Posted by: ncdem | May 16, 2008, 2:45 am 2:45 am

Part 2
1. Bill has been making a lot of money from deals with other countries and large multi-national companies in the past 8 years – a lot more than the $109 million reported, because some of these donations are going into the Clinton Family Foundation or the Clinton Global Initiative which has raised $500 million, or the Clinton Presidential Library which has raised over $500 million. Come on people, what is Bill doing that is worth a billion dollars?!

Posted by: Directly from an Operation Chaos Member | May 16, 2008, 2:46 am 2:46 am

Thank you, Chris for your words.
And I agree with you: our duty is to pick who we feel is the best candidate for the job. As a Hillary supporter, you believe Ms. Clinton is the person for the job. As an Obama supporter, I believe Sen. Obama is the person for the job.
However, it is imperative that we as Democrats realize that we will destroy all chances of the party winning if we continue to bicker. This situation has become the GOP’s best friend: the same scenario destroyed the Democrats chances in 1980 just 6 years after Watergate (when Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter had a battle-royale to the convention). It is my plea that, should Obama win the nomination, Hillary supporters will turn to Obama just as I will turn to Hillary should she win. It is obvious the amount of emotional contempt I have for the Clintons, but it is for the good of our party and our country that a Democrat is elected in November.
That has been my point all along.

Posted by: Paul | May 16, 2008, 2:47 am 2:47 am

Part 3
When the Clintons left the White House, remember the 140 pardons that were issued on the last day. Pardons to Marc Rich who contributed to Hillary’s first election campaign. Remember the pardons for drug dealers that were arranged by Hugh and Tony Rodham – brothers of Hillary? Well, those were messy transactions. But donations to a “Global Initiative” or a Presidential Library are sanitized. And the question that has never been raised by the “journalists” covering this campaign is “What will Bill do with his Global Initiative?”

Posted by: Directly from an Operation Chaos Member | May 16, 2008, 2:48 am 2:48 am

President Clinton also called for expanded benefits and pay for military personnel and Senator Clinton, as First Lady, was involved with investigating cases of Gulf War Syndrome from the military operations of the early ’90′s to oust saddam from Kuwait….

WOW!!! After reading most of of the comments expressing such hate. It’s no wonder America is in the shape it is in. How is it that we should expect to accomplish peace in the world when we state so much intolerance of each other here at home. One thing I’ve observed during this election it has certainly brought up a lot of underlying feelings of people’s intolerance seems like we’ve been in cold war with each other for a long time. Now we are verging on declaring all out war. Is this the America we want? It certainly seems like the America we have become. In the past we have always voted for who we wanted to or not at all this is our right, but America please let’s not air out our dirty laundry on the internet and give the world who is watching us the weapons to beat us with. This type of hostility and divisiveness is an invitation to terrorist to come in an further exploit or intolerance. Are we so bent on hating each other to the point we want to be like the countries we are trying to stop fighting each other U know the sunnis against the shihites etc.,etc. This is what it sounds like to me U want. I researched the canidates all of them listened to what their platform was and made my decision. I found one with a pending fraud case pending against them that may immediately put the US in turmoil at PeterFPaul.com I disqulified that person and I rest my case.

ncdem,
wow, thank you so very much for correcting me, considering you have NEVER EVEN BEEN IN MY SHOES.
No, let me correct you on a few things:
1. I do remember that my parents were CLINTON SUPPORTING DEMOCRATS in August, 1994.
2. I do remember seeing the tent cities being established on the golf courses in Guantanamo.
3. I do remember my parents talking about the water crisis and the fact that some of the higher ups had been talking about evacuation.
4. I do remember sitting on that airplane with my mother as she clutched her purse with the last $20 to our name. The airplane was a DC-10.
5. I do remember when I woke up in the middle of the night and saw red lights flashing on my ceiling from the ambulance waiting outside.
6. I do remember my brother being carried out of our apartment on a stretcher with oxygen.
7. I do remember my aunt picking me up because my mother rode in the ambulance with my brother.
8. I do remember sitting with my mother in the hospital room as she cried knowing my brother would probably die.
9. I do remember my mother tossing a Christmas tree over the fence in back of the old Salvation Army on South Loudoun Street in Winchester, Virginia on December 4, 1994. I do remember shoving it into the back of our beat up old 1979 GMC Custom.
10. I do remember sitting on the floor with construction paper and yarn making ornaments for that tree.
11. I do remember that my parents voted REPUBLICAN in the 1994 midterms.
That is what I remember from 14 years ago. Do I need to go into my research of primary and secondary sources, or could you please allow me to have my own judgement of the events that have happened in my own lifetime?

i agree that a Democrat should win, but obama can’t win…..he will be an exact replica of the kerry campaign of 2004 because of his gaffes, his mistakes, his poor choice of words, his poor choice of supporters (wright, rezko, etc.) and the 2008 version of the swift boat vets will eat him alive, and the arrogance, ignorance, racism and sexism proudly on display by many of his supporters (not you) is driving many away from him and his campaign, not to mention the way he has conducted his campaign against Senator Clinton, which directly contradicts the inspirational words he uses to charm the masses (“hope”, “politics of change”)…….I have seen too much from obama and his supporters to honestly believe he has any chance, and their collective actions with regard to Senator Clinton has made my continued support of her campaign even stronger and more resilient…..in all honesty, i do not believe mccain is anywhere near as evil or horribly incompetent as dubya and his cohorts, but I also do not believe mccain is as intelligent as obama and Senator Clinton….furthermore, I believe only Senator Clinton is capable of achieving that which she promises……admittedly, obama will probably win California, so my vote for Senator Clinton will be largely symbolic, but it is the only vote I can make with pride….

…i have to respond…to paul
that’s is a moving story and its one that has a personal aspect…
and i ‘m sure you blame clintons
like the cubans still blame the kennedy’s for the bay of pigs..disaster
but oftentimes…its not bill…that did the policy moves…its the pentagon and its the way it even works today…
my father loved roosevelt and was a d day veteran..and lost eleven teeth and had a hole created in his head from d day invasion
but when it came time to reward him some vet benefits years later for complications from these serious wounds
the pentagon…not roosevelt himself
..said
“we can not find your records” and so vet benefits ever were confered
ironically…the nation of france
conferred upon my father
his only true d day medal
…because they could demonstrate themselves he was there and his company was that of the one which made the movie ‘saving private ryan’
its the military and everyone knows its f***d up as its treatment towards true veterans and families
but my father does not blame roosevelt for the same..he loves him to this day at 87 years of age
…as for civil rights…
the clintons thru my own personal efforts
were the FIRST president in the US HISTORY
to enforce what is caleld
“pattern and practice” police brutality

Obama’s advantage in the primaries is because we did not know about his alliance and alliagance with Rev Wright and Black theology or his contacts with Hamas and how many “favors ” he did for millionaires in Illinois. Once we knew he has not win anything but NC. He is fake and deceivng and he is conning supporters about being a “different kind of politician”.

democratforMcCain: “so it is not all black, but a bunch of it is”
Thanks for conceding that point. I may not be as old as you, but that gives me a unique perspective in life. I am not saying life experience is bad. It just seems to leave people stuck in a ideological mind set that was developed over time. Those mind sets are both good and bad. My point is that the youth bring along an ability to see outside the box. This is why the wining combination is an experienced person who can help guide and utilize the potential of the youth for everyone’s benefit. I believe Obama is that person. He is not exsactly a “youth” himself. He has a wife and two kids.

Many Democrats that voted for him before the revelation of Rev Wright, won’t vote for him in the GE. he disinfranchised the blue collar workers, the rural workers, the Hispanic vote, moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats. with thise votes Hillary can defeat MCCain. Obama does not have a chance.

The other networks were protecting Obama and pushing him as the dem nominee Wright is not only his pastor, is his spiritual advisor, personal friend and mentor. Ypu will see from now on how the media that pushed Obama agains Sen Clinton will begin to turn their backs on him.All was planned because the Republicans fear Sen Clinton. Come on that’s like saying the only reason McCain got any votes is because he is an old vet. Or Hillary only wins anything because she is white and a woman.
Obama has won more of a cross section of the population then anybody other then him. So in that respect Obamas coliltion truley is the most mixed race at this moment. Hillary only reviced one in ten support from blacks. Granted her support is strong with woman, hispanics and the 65+ crowd. However, Obama has the most support among jewis votes, asian, blacks, and has a sizble amount of whites and youth vote not to mention the gaing support among hispanics.

Well, the only thing I have to say is this:
Hillary Clinton won big in West Virginia. Do you know what the only other state that she won by a 30%+ margin was? Arkansas. Two of the poorest, most uneducated (don’t pull any elitist BS out on me either, I live in WV) states in the Union, populated by hill folk (I live in Logan County, West Virginia…the most West Virginia the country gets…) who would NEVER vote for a black man even if it were Jesus Christ.
Regardless, Obama has won by a 30%+ margin in 10 states and 3 protectorates: Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Illinois, Georgia, Alaska, and Hawaii. To put it in comparison: Clinton has only won 16 states total.
Obama is not unelectable. He lost California, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire by slim margins, and those are important strongholds and swing states for the Democrats.
But, as I’ve said this whole time:
The longer we bicker about Hillary/Obama, the more strain you’re putting on the party. It will be destroyed, and McCain will win in November thanks to the divisiveness of this primary. 4 more years of Republicans, 4 more years of war, 4 more years of high gas prices, 4 more years of evangelicals, 4 more years of the world hating us, 4 more years of a bad economy, 4 more years of sword rattling and maybe 4+ years of Iran?
Go ahead and write in Hillary’s name on November 4…you’ll split the ticket, and both Obama and Hillary will lose. Go ahead and vote for McCain; the Dems will lose. The only way for Dems to win is to vote Democrat whether it be Hillary or Obama.
And to close, I would like to say: Abraham Lincoln only had 4 years of congressional experience…but he turned out to be one of the greatest (and by some historians, the greatest) President in American History.
Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, and have a fantastic evening.

Once Obama, Edwards and Hillary are all out on the stump “wooing people” we are all going to be like “OMG I love the dems so much”. There powers of charisma will be to great. They are all just too smooth. The dems chances are really good this year. It makes me feel good knowing we got to pick from an all star draft this year before the GE. Thank goodness Edwards decided to give his delegates to Obama and put to rest any speculation that could keep this year and a half long primary going on any longer. Its time to bring it to McCain.

Quite frankly, I’m a bit discouraged by this whole thing! I can’t help but what wonder what’s coming next…I have a feeling that Mr. Obabma won’t turn out to be the “second-coming” that he’s allowing himself to be portrayed as, and unfortunately when that breaks it will be too late. The convention will have been held, the “king” will have been crowned and the nominees will be in full-throttle mode for the General Election…Unfortunately by the time the veil is lifted and the truths exposed, the crown will be left lying on the floor with no one who will want it…Sadly, though, for those of us who decided to sit this one out, we’ll be left to say those four well known words…”I told you so!” Fear not, though, at the end of the day, the RNC will have managed to pull the biggest coup of all time, bigger than Gore’s Florida debacle and bigger than Kerry’s unchallenged bid in Ohio…welcome to Jan 20th, 2009, the beginning of third term of the current administration! Oh well, this will be business-as-usual and this election season will go down in history as the biggest, most expensive, most contested and divided “much-to-do-about-nothing” ever!

In doing so, he helps “bridge the gap” between Obama and the oh-so coveted “white-working man’s” vote, correct? Hmmm, wait a minute, hold on! Isn’t John Edwards the guy that pays hundreds of daollars for his hair cuts?…check it out!
updated 2:08 p.m. CT, Tues., April. 17, 2007
WASHINGTON – Looking pretty is costing John Edwards’ presidential campaign a lot of pennies. The Democrat’s campaign committee picked up the tab for two haircuts at $400 each by celebrity stylist Joseph Torrenueva of Beverly Hills, Calif., according to a financial report filed with the Federal Election Commission.
FEC records show Edwards also availed himself of $250 in services from a trendy salon and spa in Dubuque, Iowa, and $225 in services from the Pink Sapphire in Manchester, N.H., which is described on its Web site as “a unique boutique for the mind, body and face” that caters mostly to women.
A spokeswoman for Edwards’ campaign did not respond to requests for comment.
Hmmm, looks to me like that gap just got a whole lot WIDER!

I would be disappointed if Edwards was not chosen to be VP and more disappointed if he did not accept. It’s all about priorities. He is doing what is best for the democratic party and what needs to be done to win in November. Why would he endorse Clinton? She is not going to be running for president. He would look like a fool endorsing her. Also, anyone who votes for McCain after 8 years of Bush is just plain STUPID.

Speaking of who forgot what. Bill Clinton would not have been President if it had not been for the Black vote, yet when it became necessary to use race ( to no avail)he didn’t hesitate.
Quit bashing Edwards and Richardson because they can think for themselves. Are they not allowed to endorse who they wish ?
Maybe being on the inside of the Clinton White House showed them that they didn’t want to see us go back to thattype of crap. As much as I WAS a Clinton Supporter in the 90′s, I am also intelligent enough to realize that some of the divide between our nation politically rests squarely in their laps.

If everyone would put their blinders on a minute and remove sex and race and Rev Wrong from the equation their messages are almost the same they almost repeat each others messages. Hillary is losing and will lose because she assumed she was owed the nomination by all those Democrats the Clinton’s screwed over and threw under the bus in their previous reign. She would have had a better chance if she ran with her maiden name. The thing she did not see coming is that Obama gave these senior democratic delegates a way out and they are taking it. And all of you thinking that she can run in 2012 if she doesn’t have the support now after all these years she will not have it 4 years from now. and for all of you that say Clinton wins or we vote Mccain ask yourself are you really ready for four more years of bush politics? Do you really hate your country that much.

Edwards put on a make-up tonight but he can no longer claim to work for the poor. He even flashes his father but sounds so unreal. He blinks and rolls his eyes trying to say something sensible for a nonsensical act.
Edwards can’t wait and let people vote. and people’s voices heard.
Hillary has won the vote of confidence of working class, the middle class and the poor that Edwards used to say that he was working for. No more does he.
Half of the democrates vote for Hillary and we will not forget that Edwards joins the party to make a fair election unfair.
To hell with the party.
Ask what the party has done for you.
Ask what BO has done for you.
Hot air.
The Clintons has done lots for this country. They are trying to distort history. After this election, we shall put them all to shame. They are using Bush’s playbook. It will not be forgotten and forgiven.
Do not let those screw you to take the WHITE HOUSE; brothers and sisters; yes we are bitter because they have been changing the rules.

Posted by: John_Lai | May 16, 2008, 7:38 am 7:38 am

BO is just a talker that has used bombastic high-flown language to fool millions of people by poetic promises of change. In reality, he has taken considerable money and support from all sorts of corporate and other special interests. Remember his Bittergate! Also, his fabricated credential is just hot air; FACTCHECK says don’t believe it. BO does not have what it takes, the stamina and tenacity to be a true, and solid reformer.
Todd Spivak of the Houston Press has documented how Obama accomplished next to nothing in his first six years in the Illinois legislature.
Then Emil Jones Jr. an African American with thirty years in the legislature made Obama a sponsor of 26 bills that became law. This is how BO portrays himself as a highly successful legislator. This is just like giving him the ball at 1 yard line. Has Obama repaid Jones? Yes. He has provided tens of millions in earmarks for Jones’ district. As to such actions, Jones famously said: “Some call it pork; I call it steak.”
Michelle Obama’s salary at University of Chicago Hospitals when her husband won the US Senate seat was $121,000. Within weeks of his swearing in, her salary went to over $320,000. The following year Obama did an earmark request for $1 million for her employer.
How great is this candidate and his spouse! smelly, isn’t it? From the evidences, do you see any greatness?

Posted by: John_Lai | May 16, 2008, 7:46 am 7:46 am

What did the Clintons did for this country:
In 1988, crime was perhaps the biggest issue in the election campaign. Blacks saw the death penalty as racially unfair. The country demanded a hard line against crime and too often associated that crime with blacks.
Today, by contrast, roughly 1% of Americans say crime is their top issue, and no one even knows Obama’s position on the death penalty is. Bill Clinton, his policies especially his bold proposal for 100,000 new cops, helped bring down the crime rate.
In the mid-1980s, pollsters found that government help for the needy was seen as welfare by voters, taking money from whites to give to undeserving blacks. That attitude was unfair, but it was a political reality. Clinton changed that when he reformed welfare in 1996. By making it brutally clear that people who didn’t work wouldn’t get much help from Washington. The Clintons made it harder for Republicans to tag Democratic antipoverty programs as handouts to “welfare queens.”
The Clinton presidency restored the Democratic Party’s reputation for economic management, which Jimmy Carter had nearly destroyed. By almost 20 points, according to the Pew Research Center, Americans today trust Democrats over Republicans to guide the economy. BO could not achieved this behind a podium
If Clintons had been more like Obama–he might have vetoed welfare reform and unambiguously defended affirmative action. He might also have gone with his liberal base and chosen economic stimulus over deficit reduction in 1993.
The Clintons restored the Democrats’ credibility on economic issues and took three of the most racially toxic issues in U.S. politics–crime, welfare and affirmative action–off the table so BO may find audiences to brag over the poetic form of change now.
The OBAMA fanatics gives us nothing but hot air, hate mails, slandering, name calling, hair pulling, blasphemy, and mockery to American traditional lifestyles.

No one in their right mind would be VP beneath Barak Obama. He isn’t deserving of the title and for someone who should’ve been above him to take the roll of VP is a complete insult. He’ll have to get a complete unknown to fill that spot. Some senator from Iowa or something.

You are absolutely right Anne K. I keep asking this question and it seems like never have a straight answer. Talk about being racist??? So Whites can cross over the line to vote for BO but 90% of Blacks will not. Who is a real racist here???
By the way, they give us a label of “uneducated people who vote for Hillary” is silly. Tell me, 90% of Blacks voting for Obama, how much income they make and what kind of degree they have in average????? Do a real survey to see a real picture; don’t just listen to those stupid pundits in the news!

It is very sad to read the many hateful and judgemental comments posted on this board about both candidates…Neither candidate should be proud to have any of you voting for them…Grow up and realize what’s important

I was very disappointed in the way John Edwards and Barack Obama chose to announce Edwards support for Obama; what hype, sensationalism, and hogwash; also, to say he tried to reach Hillary but couldn’t and also they’re somewhat good old boys condescending references to Hillary totally turned me off to each of them in a way I haven’t been before.

President: Barrack
VP: Hillary Clinton
AG: Edwards
Sec of State: Richardson
Now that is a coalition I can get behind. True representation of our country.

I love it!!! They way people make it seem that he just disowned the white race. You here phrases such as: I’m so dissappointed, I can’t believe I supported him, He’ll never get my vote ever again, LOL…LOL…LOL idiots. Then you here phrases such as; He’s a disgrace, he’s a traitor, he’s a Judas…wah wah wah wah wah. Vote for McCain if you want, and I honestly believe you will vote for him, just to say, “I’ll show that Democratic Party” like a bunch of school children. When McCain wins, I’m going to laugh, right in your stupid faces. Why? because my family will be fine, We have money, and we have health care, we live like the Dems want you to live. Why? because I’m going to vote for a Dem, no matter who it is Hillary or Obama. At least I’m going to do my part. You on the other hand want to sabotage the elections and subsequently this country. You’ll get your satisfaction fulfilled until fuel is $5.50 a gallon, then 6.00, and it won’t stop there. Since 2004 Gas prices have risen nearly 200%. Democrats are usually better than republicans when it comes to economy. The only exeption to that was the great Ronald Reagan. And I’m not sure that wasn’t due to the Carter administration. But I won’t open that can of worms.

In reading my fellow American’s comments regarding Barack Obama, and John Edwards, I am utterly disgusted. You sit and pretend to care about the crisis we all are in, yet all you have is continued negativity towards our next potential president. I mean come on, were you all born in a barn. It is not as if the president alone can change the turmoil we are all in. It is not up to the president alone, but everyone, everyone standing together in a united front for the best interest of the American people. Although you all may not see eye to eye with the possible democratic presidential nominee, he is but one man trying to do his best. What have you all done?? Effort speaks loudly over words, and I simply say with my last words, have hearts, we all live free, and we all have created our own mess. I applaud anyone with the effort in attempts to clean up the mess out society itself has created.

There is more to voting than being loyal to one party, especially if you are an independent or even affiliated with a party.
I for one, am disgusted by this whole thing has played out. How the DNC has sat back and let it all happen. By Dean saying that the delegates would be seated, he caused this to continue. What makes them come to a different decision now rather than if they would have decided a month ago?
Let me not forget the media. Whomever you support, the media has been more biased than I have ever seen. With so many people getting their news from specific networks, they need to be more careful. They have abused their power.
I cannot help to be disappointed in Edwards for endorsing when he did…they say timing is everything. It is not about his choice, that is his personal decision, it is all about the politics of his choice.

As Americans, I think we forget how lucky we are to be engaged in this election, to have an election.
We have food, most likely a home, and if we are writing in this blog probably most of the material things we need to maintain a very comfortable life. Others around the globe, even in our own country, are not so lucky.
I feel so fortunate, to be alive when a woman is runnning an amazing campaign to become the 1st female President, alongside an amazing African American who is running an amazing campaign to become the first African American President. The mere thought of these two together would be absolutely sensational! The strength of what they stand for –TOGETHER would unsurpassable.
Though John Edwards is more “typical” of what we expect, what a great candidate he is/was! I’m a happy Democrat.
I can’t wait to vote in the Fall and am planning the Celebration festivities already, dancing in the glow of our new Democratic President.
Let’s get happy! Trouncing on one another is in no way productive.
Thank you!

Obama and the democrats have lots to worry about. Half the democrats did not vote for Obama. The white middle class is not going to follow him. I think many will not vote at all and this is really going to hurt in the swing states. The Obama followers need to recognize he is no misiah. Most of the blue collar middle class are not falling for the retorhic he spews out on stage. Hillary wasn’t hard on a fellow democrat. Wait til the republican machine goes after him. Wait til Rezko starts spilling the beans after he is convicted and starts making deals with the prosecution.
Wouldn’t that put Dean and Pelosi in a pinch. Denying FL, MI, so there boy could win. Then only to have him debunked after the nomination by Rezko.
Do the math as Obama supporters are saying now.
Little to none of the republicans go for Obama and just over half of the dems does not equal the presidency.

Posted by: texas outlaw | May 16, 2008, 1:04 pm 1:04 pm

I say again! Edwards didn’t even get out of the starting blocks in this race! Why would his endorsement carry so much weight now?! Neither is he capable of being VP or AG, it takes more that that to sway voters.
That is pure wishful thinking on Obama’s part (and I suspect sour grapes on Edwards part, because Hillary is not weak, as he stated in NH, she is strong focused and determined).
Super del’s must be asking why Obama cannot win swing states. It has to be acknowledged that (whether it’s appreciated or not by DNC)the states won so far by Obama will revert to GOP in the GE and Obama cannot win the states that Hillary has, making Hillary the more electable and definatly capable of whiping the floor with McCain, to become the next President! So quit your messing ABC and show the lady the real respect she deserves!
FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT! GO HILLARY!!!

It’s a good thing that Edwards doesn’t want to be VP (apparently his only interest is that he just doesn’t want Hillary to win). As Obama doesn’t think Edwards would be a good president (VP next in line) anyway because Edwards voted for the Iraq resolution along with Hillary and Obama said Hillary didn’t have the judgment to be president because of the vote.

Why do all these democrats feel the need to protect Obama. It is getting creepy as it really shows how weak Obama is.

“The OBAMA fanatics gives us nothing but hot air, hate mails, slandering, name calling, hair pulling, blasphemy, and mockery to American traditional lifestyles.”
John Lai,
You’re a hypocrite. Don’t think for a moment that Hillary and her supporters haven’t done the SAME things.
You Hillary supporters who would vote McCain over Obama are all idiots. You’re a bunch of morons. I’m not name calling, I am stating a fact, that you are cognitively deranged to vote for a Republican if you truly want change from the status quo of Bush. If you don’t want a change from Bush, then you’re fine to vote for McCain.
Hillary supporters are wrapped up in the negative campaign that SHE started in January (she did, Obama reacted after a few weeks). They are now shrouded in the smoke of battle and they are so fired up about the whole deal that they will do something stupid, like voting to extend the Republican menace for another 4 years…and once the dust has settled you’ll realize what a stupid mistake you’ve made.
Here’s how simple it is:
48% of America is Republican
48% of America is Democratic
4% of America is Independent, Leaning either way.
The Democrats have the chance to win 52%-48%, perhaps higher, this election. However, this is what happens when half of the Hillary supporters write in Sen. Clinton instead of voting for Barack Obama:
48% – John S. McCain
26.5% – Hillary R. Clinton
26.5% – Barack H. Obama
HILLARY STILL LOSES!!! The Democrats LOSE. McCain does a Slick Willy by winning by less than half of the vote. And that’s not to mention the Independent candidates.
So there you have it: write in Hillary’s name, she still loses. SHE WILL LOSE IF SHE LOSES THE PRIMARY!
HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON WILL LOSE THE GENERAL ELECTION IF SHE LOSES THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY.
HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON WILL LOSE THE GENERAL ELECTION IF SHE LOSES THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY.
HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON WILL NOT WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION BY WRITE-INS, AND WRITING-IN HER NAME WILL DESTROY ALL CHANCES OF THE DEMOCRATS WINNING IN NOVEMBER.
HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON WILL NOT WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION BY WRITE-INS, AND WRITING-IN HER NAME WILL DESTROY ALL CHANCES OF THE DEMOCRATS WINNING IN NOVEMBER.
Hillary’s biggest mistake was going negative so soon. She could have won if only she didn’t start with the negative ads, the picture leaks, the Republican tactics of name calling, etc.
“Barack HUSSEIN Obama” – In the eyes of the generally uneducated Clintonian public, that is a bad thing. If you have more than 4 brain cells, it wouldn’t be such a problem.
“Rev. Wright is such a divisive figure” – And those same people are the ones who give money to Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell’s church. Jesus, those men said 9/11 was the fault of feminists, gays, the ACLU, People for the American way, and every American child who didn’t pray in school. Fantastic.
“Ms. Obama is smelly” – I don’t know how people would know that, and if they did get close enough to her to sniff her armpits, then I would probably have to say that is pretty creepy to sniff other people’s armpits.
See how childish it is? Uneducated Hillary freaks.

Cory,
Hillary supporters are not going to vote for Obama because he has zero experiance and does not relate to them.
They fact that he has clearly shown he more committed to the black communities then he is the working class white folks. He did not even show up in West Virginia. He abandond an entire state. Because he doesn’t think he needs their vote. He abandond MI when he did not even put his name on the ballot and then denied them the oppertunity to revote. So much for a man of the people.
He certianly spent time in North and South Carolina, Mississippi, and Georgia. That in itself is reason not to vote for him.
McCain says guns are great, and we are the greatest nation on earth and that we are the leaders of the world, where Obama says we are not so great and really need to change this country. He needs to be real careful not to insult a lot of people that have and always will be proud of this country, unlike Obamas wife.
Those are the reasons people will not vote for Obama, not bitterness. Those are Obamas words not theirs.

Posted by: texas outlaw | May 16, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm

I too am very disappointed in John Edwards endorsement of Obama. I supported his efforts as the Vice Presidential candidate in 2004 and I actually favored him early on when he was still a candidate in the 2008 election. But I became very disillusioned with him as time went by. He did come from humble roots and he continues to talk as if he is a common man. He is the Director of the Center on Poverty at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He implies, by his work and his speeches that he understands the plight of the poor, so he pays $400 for his hair cuts, I have to cut my own. He professes to fight to help eradicate hunger, and he speaks of understanding the hardships that the working middle class and those at the poverty level are experiencing, but he builds his 28,000 sq. ft. 6 million dollar house on a 100 acre estate. I live not 20 miles from him, and I can tell you that there are not many of those type dwellings between his estate and my 1200 sq. ft. home sitting ¾ ‘s of an acre. Do you really expect that his endorsement of Obama will gain him the working middle class votes, or even North Carolina??? No!, he no longer speaks for us. Obama/Edwards, politics as usual.

Posted by: someonewhoknows | May 16, 2008, 4:03 pm 4:03 pm

If Hillary is within 1% of the popular vote and 1% of the delegates there will be a strong argument for having her as VP. Especially after the FL MI thing.
If Dean and Polosi support Obama and FL and MI don’t count, the party is going to be in really bad shape heading into the general. They are going to have to find a way to get closer to the center from the left or they will loose the election.

Obamalltheway said: Hillary lied her way right out of the nomination. All she had to do was play fair, stick to the rules, and have a plan and a theme. She did neither.
KEEP ON ATTACKING HER AND HER SUPPORTERS. IT ONLY HARDENS OUR RESOLVE TO DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO DEFEAT OBAMA. SO KEEP ON ATTACKING; WE LIKE IT!!!

Not to break the spirit of the tirade going on here but I just want to offer a thought: I believe John Edwards was THE Democrat candidate for this election and would be the front runner now except that any parent in that voting booth had to wonder about what he was going to be facing with his wife and kids in the coming 4 years. He’d be a GREAT VP candidate with Obama if he wanted it, but who can blame him. He knows he’s going to be put through the emotional ringer in the next 4 years, too.

I find it funny that all these people call Obama an elitist – as if John McCain (whose wife is a bigilionaire) and Hillary Clinton (whose husband gives $500,000 speeches and who made, in combination with her husband, over 100,000,000 dollars in the past 7 years) aren’t the elite.
It’s just funny that some people vote based on who they could have a beer with. That turned out great the last time people did that, didn’t it?

Posted by: krol | May 16, 2008, 6:47 pm 6:47 pm

I think all of us who support Hillary and oppose Obama should leave the democratic party and reregister the day after they force Hillary out. We can still write her in if we so choose, but it will be a strong signal to the democratic party.
Krol – look up the word. Elitism is a state of mind. You show your bias and lack of knowledge when you say that just because someone has money they are elitists.

Posted by: susan | May 16, 2008, 7:29 pm 7:29 pm

Krol – I think Obama was out there “sipping” on a beer to get votes and I’ve heard him mention beer a few times lately. What a typical politician!

Posted by: Susan | May 16, 2008, 7:31 pm 7:31 pm

Even if Hillary had a clear majority of the popular vote, I think it is too late. If Obama had been vetted before the Feb primaries, this would be a totally different race.
Maybe the democrats will learn when they lose another election that they’ve got to change if they ever hope to have another democratic president. However, I have come to the conclusion that democrats as a whole are not very smart. Perhaps there is a need for another strong, middle of the road party.

Posted by: Susan | May 16, 2008, 7:35 pm 7:35 pm

If the democrats take over the senate and house in November, it will be okay to have McCain as president. He won’t be able to put up justices who the democrats don’t approve. By the way, some justices who are considered more liberal were put in with a republican president (David Souter for one). Your scare tactic in order to get us to vote for Obama is weak.

You know after weeks of listening to this crap i find it very disappointing as an American and a patriot.

Clinton Supporters…. deal with it. You Whine about “inexperience this” and “not capable that” “he can’t win big states” and “He’s not the best candidate”.
With the most pledge delegates, the most super delegates, the popular vote as well a well endowed campaign donation base, it refutes your claims because… Common Sense would say Hilary would have all that.. if she had the support but she does not.
Come beyond yourselves, the egos and petty childish skirmishes because they won’t bring those 4,000+ dead soldiers back. Nor will it restore our foreign policy or economic standing.
This isn’t football, deal with it.

Elite (also spelled Élite) is taken originally from the Latin, eligere, “to elect”. In sociology as in general usage, the élite is a relatively small dominant group within a large society, which enjoys a privileged status envied by individuals of lower social status.
The position of an elite at the top of the social strata almost invariably puts it in a position of leadership and often subjects the holders of elite status to pressure to maintain their position as part of the elite. However, in spite of the pressures, the existence of the elite social stratum is usually unchanged.

How rude and divisive for John Edwards to endorse Sen. Obama on the day after Sen. Clinton’s West Virginia primary? What was the rush? Where’s your good manners John Edwards and Barack Obama? Is this a way to treat an American lady? Then in the same breath talk about “party unity?” This is very typical of Obama campaign. Talk endlessly about high ideals for America and then take a real aggressive and abusive “low road!” Is this the “new politics” that Sen. Obama is promising us? Oh, give me a break! But I have to tell you, if our now “presumptive nominee” Sen. Barack Obama is going to be the “real” Democratic nominee, sadly, another “George McGovern” fate tragically awaits the Democratic Party. It’s heartbreaking to watch the DNC self-destruct and its super-delegates squandering the distinct advantage they have to re-gain the White House in 08. But don’t be surprised; knowing the fact that DNC houses the longest list of losers of any American organization! The impending Democratic presidential loss to John McCain has to be blame on the same old politicians who have never won presidential elections, calling the shots for DNC, and fumbling the chances: Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Tom Daschle, Bill Bradley, John Edwards, Bill Richardson, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and as you know many of them ran for president and lost, including old George McGovern. Now they are all endorsing and supporting Sen. Obama. They are playing the same old loser’s game. That game is called the “idealism” game. These democrats have a penchant for being indulged in idealism, just like Barack Obama. But he’s trying to sell it to Americans as “new.” That was done before too. As you know idealists like George McGovern never made it Washington. And many of them are examples of such idealist losers. All this has happened before. They all said they are going throw the bums out and clean up Washington. But they all lost to the Republicans. And when you at things in the light of what happened at the Democratic primaries in Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and in many other states, and especially when you look at the astonishing 41 point victory of Sen. Hillary Clinton over the “presumptive nominee” in West Virginia, isn’t it obvious Sen. Obama can’t win; he isn’t strong enough, his base isn’t wide enough; he has a very narrow but deep base, but not good enough to win a presidential election. There’s lots of importance to West Virginia than meets the eye. The media is not telling you any of this, as usual. Even Jimmy Carter won it. Even Mike Dukakis won it. Sen. Obama has failed to get the support of women, so called “Reagan Democrats” or working class white voters, rural voters, labor union households, Latinos, older Americans and so on; you know in spite of the media spin and promotion Sen. Obama is no more better than another George McGovern or Mike Dukakis! We all know that Black American and city liberals never won presidential elections for democrats. Sen. Obama had successfully maneuvered himself to be the front runner, with a help of zealots in caucuses states to get most of his delegate numbers. No matter how many congressional seats Democrats win in the fall 2008 election if they fail to win the White House, what the use? The situation that we have right now─ with President Bush vetoing everything ─isn’t going to change. The unfortunate thing for the Democratic Party in this election cycle is that they have a presidential candidate who really can’t win. Besides there’s even more bad news. Remember, just before the general election in 2004, Massachusetts judge sanctified gay-marriage, which galvanized the conservative vote resulting in John Kerry’s defeat and George Bush narrow win? That is happening again. The gays and lesbians are determined to give the Republican another presidential victory. Now that California Supreme Court decision allow gay-marriage would surly result in lots of social-conservatives going to 2008 polls and ensure the defeat of Barack Obama, and victory for Republican John McCain, just as it happened before in 2004. The Democratic party it known for its capacity for “Snatching the defeat out of the jaws of victory.” Sen. Obama can’t even change the defeatist dynamic of his own party and how can he propose to save America from its continuing decline?

I’m from NC, voted for Edwards for Senate, voted for Kerry in part because Edwards was running for veep, but no more. In the time that has passed since 2004, Edwards hasn’t done anything to help anyone. He was head of the Poverty Studies Center at the college, but what did he actually do? Study poor people? We have loads of impoverished people here in NC. He has never done anything to help any opf them. And on top of that, about an hour after his endorsement of Obama the other night, I got an email from the “John Edwards for President” campaign begging for donations. He’s not worried about vp. He did say he’d like to be attorney general, but I think the main reason he came out for Obama was to resurface so he could solicit donations to pay off campaign debts. No thanks.

Can we all just take a deep breath and get along? This is still America, right… where we don’t judge and slam people based on their their name, color, religion, or even gender mannerisms? And where people also have a right to endorse whom they please without persecution from those who disagree? Ironically a lot of righteous indignation was raised weeks ago when it was suggested that people get bitter when they feel frustrated, but look at us now. Some of political polarizing during the primaries has apparently infected some of the voters and stirred up some buried bigotry. So let’s innoculate some of this venom, everyone, and try to find some common ground among black, white, hispanic, feminists, young, old, and other reasonable people. There’s way too much at stake… way too much. I started out for Hillary and then decided to support Obama for my own reasons, but whichever one is named the nominee, it’s time to get focused and unite on the issues.
