‘Let’s Move Forward’, Axelrod Says of Clinton RFK Gaffe
ABC News’ Mary Bruce reports: Sen. Barack Obama’s chief strategist asserted this morning that his campaign is not trying to stir up and prolong concern surrounding Sen. Hillary Clinton’s comments on Robert F. Kennedy’s assassination.
"As far as we’re concerned, this issue is done,” Axelrod said in an exclusive appearance on ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” “It was an unfortunate statement, as we said, as she’s acknowledged. She has apologized. … Let’s move forward."
However, as recently as Saturday, Obama’s campaign was bringing attention to the incident by sharing harsh commentary against Clinton from another television network.
On Friday, when referencing historical contests that have extended into June, Clinton explained, "We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California."
The Obama campaign initially reacted negatively, saying the comment was "unfortunate and has no place in this campaign."
Axelrod went on to say he believes the nomination contest is coming to a close.
“This isn’t ‘American Idol,’ OK?” he said. “This is a nominating process. We have rules. We elect delegates state by state. Sen. Obama has built a lead over these six– over these five months. And we expect on June 3 that this process will come to an end.”

This is not Obama’s problem, Hillary spoke it, she has to live with it, no matter how it is spun

There is no reason to carry on Clinton’s stupid remark unless she follows throught with it and strangers things have happened….Obama figured she is finished why go through that crap and deal with her mess.Like they use to say “You made your bed now lay in it”

The sad thing is Hilliary’s support comes from older women, gays, and hispanics. McCain gets the old white males, and scared old ladies and Obama gets the young men and women, plus all of the college educated and the other half of the “guilt vote.” Somehow I just don’t see Hillary grabbing outside her base, or McCain attracting more than his vastly limited base. Unless Hilliary’s fantasy (or veiled threat) comes true, I think Obama wins with the independents pulling him over the top, wether we like it or not. Hilliary’s done everything she can to lose, while McCain is a one way ticket to the center of the earth. I just don’t see the media allowing Obama to fail, just like I saw the same thing when Bill got in there in ’92.

Axlerod is too nice to concede that Hilary Clinton has apologized. She bever said “sorry” or “I was wrong”. She just stated her habitual “if, maybe, I didn’t intend etc”

I thought that the campaign’s initial response was remarkably mild. And the subsequent response was remarkably gracious. Just think about what the situation would be reversed? Does anybody really think she would let this one go? And no, she didn’t apologize to Obama or his family for her insinuation — she quasi-apologized to the Kennedys and then went on a tirade about why she’s still in the race.

It is impossible not to conclude that ABC and This Week are totally in the tank for Clinton. However Clinton’s remark is interpreted it is still breath-takingly and horrifyingly insensitive, and yet we are led to suppose here that the big news is that the Obama campaign reacted (in a restrained manner) negatively? Please…

I am a women, elderly, in the south (New Orleans), and white….. demographic for HRC. But I support Obama 100%. Obama has the brains, the faith, dignity and integrity to run the country. Is he going to make mistakes, of course he is human. Which is a lot more than I can say for Clinton. I have naver seen such raw abition. I finally understand the attraction between Hillary and Bill. You don’t want her anywhere near serious power.

It is interesting how a candidate who is running for president can hint on assassination and still walk free. If the same statement about assassination was made by Joe down the street, he would have been visited by secret service and FBI and taken into custody.

Hillary Clinton’s comment about the assassination of Kennedy in California in 1968 just another example of why this woman should never be the Democratic nomination for President. Her spoiled little rich girl…”If I can’t have it, then neither can you” attitude is the product of someone who is overly ambitious self serving personality. I used to be a Hillary Clinton supporter……until the day she shed the fake tears in New Hampshire.

“Forward” for the Clinton campaign is a matter of perspective. She jumped off a cliff. Now the spin is that her campaign is picking up speed. I suppose that’s true, and it will continue to pick up speed. It is the sudden stop at the bottom which will cause the problem.

I will note vote for Obama even he approaches Ms. Clinton on his knees. The Obama camp crossed the line this time.
Well, Obama didn’t find any problem associating with terrorists (William Ayers) and also with Hamas sympathizers or the God Damned Rev. Wright. Rev. Wright must have poisoned enough minds over 20 years who may have went on to commit crimes against white people. Obama should take responsibility for all those crimes.

Obama will not have enough delegates to be nominated. Those are the rules Mr Axelrod. The nominee is the one who gets the most popular votes when BOTH candidates have had all the time needed to get the 2,026 delegate votes. This is not a race to see who gets the most the quickest. The threshold will not be met by your guy and the most popular votes goes to the lady.

I don’t see the media favoring Clinton. All the pictures, all the stories, etc early on when Clinton was in the lead made her out to look like a wild eyed loon. Conversly all the quotes, pictures, and stories from Obama made him look cool and reflective. I’d say the bias clearly is for Obama — and with the republicans influencing the media (they do own it after all) it makes me wonder what about Clinton scares the conservative wing so much.

The Obama team has run a very strategic, effective, well organized, and honest campaign. They have not opened Hillary’s closet(garage)of skeletons and scandal. They are setting a great example and are rewriting conventional campaign wisdom. They have stayed in the realm of common sense and have not wandered into the land of pettiness.
This election is too important to vote on a candidate based on genitalia or skin color. We need a candidate who is skilled at bringing two very polarized sides together to accomplish the change this country desperately needs. We are tired of the gridlock and partisanship that is choking progress and the life from this country.
Other world leaders are watching this election unfold and most have expressed a belief that they could embrace a presidency of Barack Obama. He can repair the damage and restore the credibility we have lost through the deceit and incompetence of our current administration.
Democrats ,lets put aside our personal preferences and get behind the candidate that will be our nominee. We can`t afford four more years of madness.

Threats, lies, propaganda = Obama/Axlerod strategy.”
response:
There is a big difference between Hillary winning and Obama winning at this point. If Hillary manages to win, it will have been because she managed to have the rules changed in the 9th inning, which is dishonest, and the whole process would have been unfair.
Obama supporters would not revolt against her, but against what she did. Conversely, Obama has played by the DNC rules as is required. Why would you have a problem with that? I am an Obama supporter who happens to like Hillary Clinton, but if she plays dirty politics to win the nomination, it would be difficult to reward that kind of behavior.
When is comes down to it though, would we really elect McCain? No.

Clinton has the support of plenty of “college educated” voters, including myself — IMHO, she has the support of the more rational, less idealistic voters, rather than those who are swayed by empty rhetoric, charisma, and the desire to appear politically correct. Based on the most recent state polls, if the election were held today, Clinton would beat McCain easily, and Obama would lose to McCain. Clinton owes it to the party and the nation to keep fighting for the nomination, because she will beat McCain, and she will be a more effective president than Obama.

This is crazy, I think you need to put aside your pity differences and set our site on the real enemy (Mc Cain). As a former Clinton supporter, I now believe that Obama is the nominee. He won fair and square, to say otherwise is just stupid. Hillary is a great woman, and would make a geat president. The primary system is there for the voters to make their preferences known. And they Have, to say that Clinton is leading in the popular votes is dishonest. We have rules, and rules have to be followed. To change the rules now is not fair, I hope the die hard Clinton supporters realize that. I live in Florida, and voted for Clinton here, I only went to vote because we had a property tax referendum on the bollot. We’ve known for months that Florida would not count because the republican legislature moved our primary. Enough is Enough, we need to unite, and fight our Common enemy John McSame. Every knowledgeable pundit on Meet the Press this morning said there’s one thing you don’t mention as a candidate, and that’s assassination! And still you cling to the fantasy that Hillary is the “experienced pro” here.
Who has raised more money from grassroots contributors than any candidate in history? Whose campaign is consistently solidly in the black (no pun intended)? Who has repeatedly demonstrated grace and dignity even under fire?
I can’t remember an instance in this whole sorry affair where Obama personally attacked Hillary. (She got bent out of shape when he supposedly “misrepresented” her medical care plan, but that was not a personal attack.) But her campaign is riddled with personal attacks on him, even to the incredible point of claiming McCain is more qualified to be Commander-in-Chief!
Hillary supporters, OPEN YOUR MINDS, if possible, and be objective!

Many of the Obama supporters are say what if the situation is reversed… This is the same question regarding Obama-Wright that a lot of us are asking: what if the situation is reversed, that Hillary has maintain an intimate relationship with some one like Wright — what would happen?
Hillary lost the nomination because of her campaign, not because of her quality. I have come to terms with this. But, the events that doomed her campaign are exactly the kind of non-issue pushed by Obama campaign to paint Clintons as racists, as devils. This RFK stuff is exactly repeating the MLK-LBJ stuff right before SC primary. The Obama camps, their memos, their emails came out to press the media and some politicians to suggest the evil-meaning of Clintons’ words. Obama camp has all along known that they can not beat Hillary on sustantive issues, they resorted to character assasination by twisting words and skewing interpretations. The media is all too happy to play along.
Even stupid Bush came out laughing at the notion that Clintons are racists. The newspaper who reported on the RFK comments came to Hillary’s defense today. Her words made perfect sense within the context — she was talking about the timeline in a primary, and used an example (may not be a very good one) that primary has lots of uncertainty, even in as late as in June.
I also believe there are uncertainties from now on. Who would have forseen that after 11-straight win, the Wright stuff came out that almost wrecked Obama’s candidacy? Now, Rezko is to be convicted soon, what if he decides to work with FBI and starts talking about the corrupt governments in Chicago, which Obama is part of? Also, rumor has it now that tapes exist showing Michelle Obama chanting “whitey!!” with TCC member and Wright.
Obama has provided and is providing too much amunition to the republicans to fire at him. Obama’s nomination will eventully remain as a footnote when McCain wins GE. You know the Dem party is loosing and will loose big when you can not even openly discuss hitorical events.

Despicable Character Assassination of Hillary Clinton
After Barack Obama’s speech calling for Party Unity, it didn’t take long for his camp to slither down the low-road by deliberately mischaracterizing Hillary Clinton’s remarks involving RFK and precedents for continuing her campaign.
Hillary in no way referenced Obama dring the interview, yet Axelrod and his rabid gang of left-wingnuts made that the headline, and spead it across the country.
True to form, spokespersons with the Obama campaign maliciously took the remark out of context, and purposefully made hateful implications about Hillary Clinton, as they did at the time of the death of Benazir Bhutto:
Bhutto’s death will “call into issue the judgment: who’s made the right judgments,” David Axelrod, Obama Campaign.
This added on top of fake Clinton-murder conspiracy theories & comments about food tasters, which they’ve used to indoctrinate new voters and draw upon deep wells of sexism and reverse racism to ful the campaign.Yet they dismiss the fact that Hillary and her have faced threats throughout this campaign.
Kennedy Jr. has personally decried the willful and destructive spin so eagerly crafted to unfairly vilify Senator Clinton. This represents another example a disgusting, vulture-like pattern of character assassination of Hillary Clinton perpetrated by the Obama Campaign, and many media outlets.
It cannot be tolerated and will not be easily forgotten.

Obama supporters, you need to relax. The Clintons have done alot of good for this country. They’ve done alot of good for African Americans and civil rights in general. To say that they are racist is absurd, and idiotic. I do however believe that Bill made a strategic mistake by down playing Obama’s SC win. The African American community felt dissed. As a result Hillary has lost 90% of the black vote.
Hillary Clinton is an Icon, she will always be an Icon. It’s too bad she can’t be elected president this year. I believe we need a democratic president. We need to get together and elect Obama

Senator Hillary’s remarks may be inappropriate which Senator Obama campaign aid sniped. The problem with this matter is a nuisance of connotations of between Ohbama and J.F. Kennedy or RFK’s assassination. I would like to ask who read the true story of the two persons of Kennedy families written by Jackline autobiographic. Many people do not know history and why he should be assassinated why ? why? . Please see the book ” “. Senator Hillary made a mistake in a way by saying so as if she had compared Kenney with Senator Ohbama who is a born eloquent speaker. Historically speaking, Hitler elocution killed 20 millions people because people were so foolish and deceived by his public speaking skills. It is natural that every one has always a feeling of a liking or hatred. It is a nature to have feeling well or feeling bad. Even between family members. Likewise, people had a hatred toward another people. The problem is how much hatred is extreme. The extreme hatred is a crime and bad but a small hatred is always inside as far as we live in this world as are not complete and perfect human being. Whether intended subtly or connotations have been derived, the notion of Mr. Obama being assassinated is exaggerated in the public on media. My personal interpretation of her remark only adds up the sizeup of Sen Ohbama. I only surprise their camp aids and advisors swift picking up and irresponsibe exggeration on media irrespective of her true intention andconsciousness.

Senator Clinton’s “apology” is no apology at all. It’s just another exercise in blame-shifting. She would have us believe it’s OUR fault for being shocked and upset by what she said. The fact is, this remark resonates because it really gives us insight into how Clinton’s mind works. She cannot defeat Senator Obama by either fair means or foul. So there’s a dark part of her mind that thinks about what it would be like if something removed her adversary from the stage.
Memo to Senator Obama: Do NOT select Hillary Clinton as a vice presidential candidate. If you do, you will have to spend he next four years watching your back every second!

Because of Obama’s campaign, Bill Clinton is now, INCREDIBLY, seen as a racist (Obama’s portrait of him).
Hillary is seen as a racist (Obama’s portrait of her).
Hillary is seen as a war-monger. (Obama’s portrait of her).
Hillary is now being portrayed, INCREDIBLY, as calling for Obama’s assassination!!!????!!!
Hillary’s supporters are portrayed as illiterate, uneducated, white, racists (Obama’s portrait of them).
The worst Hillary has done is argue that Obama was too inexperienced to take over the presidency.
And she is the divisive candidate?
Obama partisans: you’ve run an effective campaign, your candidate will win the Democratic nomination. But here’s my prediction: you have so alienated half the Democratic party with your smear tactics against an honorable woman, that Obama will lose the general election. Her supporters will remember. They may not vote for McCain, but that isn’t the only option. They can refuse to vote at all.
I say this as someone who WILL vote for Obama in the GE, despite what his more idiotic supporters say.
His supporters, at least as represented on this blog, are idiots.
How do you think Obama will win the general election after alienating so many of Hillary’s supporters?
Riddle me that.

Roger Miller;
All of you Hillary Clinton supporters
sound like two-year olds!
“If I don’t get my way I’ll hold
my breath until I turn blue”.
“If Hillary isn’t the nominee I’ll stay
home or vote for McCain”!
GROW UP!

CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS………………
FRIDAY-After Clinton’s initial remarks to the newspaper were reported, the Obama campaign issued a statement saying the comment “was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign.”………………………
SATURDAY-A member of Obama’s staff sent the media a “searing commentary” by MSNBC’s Olbermann slamming Clinton for her remark…………………….
SATURDAY NITE– During a late-night flight from Puerto Rico on Saturday, Barack Obama said:”I think it was an unfortunate remark. But as I said, I think when you’re on the campaign trail for 15 months, you know, you’re going to make some mistakes and I don’t think that Sen. Clinton intended anything by it. And I think we should put it by us.”……………………………..
SUNDAY-Obama’s chief strategist David Axelrod told ABC’s “This Week”, “We’re beyond that issue NOW, so certainly we’re not trying to stir the issue up.”
(already did starting Fri.and w/the distribution of the MSNBC commentary to the media)

Axelrod wants to move forward becuase of the pushback that has already started. Serval news sources have written that this was a faux controversy pushed by the Obama campaign and its blog supporters. He wants to move on so people won’t realize how disengenuous or outright crazy some Obama partisans are.
Politics ain’t beanbag as they say but
Obama’s team played this up. I don’t have a real problem with that except they linked to the Post story which really distorted the interview.
I do have a problem with them wanting to pretend they had nothing to do with it.
Bill Burton, Obama’s chief spokesman, send out an email to reporters explicitly linking Clinton’s statement with threats to Obama. Later that day they sent around Olberman’s harsh comments to reporters. (In all likelihood, his campaigned pushed the story to Drudge in the first place)
According to ABCnews, this story wouldn’t have went anywhere without the comments from Burton.
Working over you opponent is part of campaigning. Pretending your campaign wasn’t involved is rank hypocrisy.
(Obama using the exact phrase ‘I take her at her word’ shows that his campaign put some thought into it before he responded.)

What’s really sad is to hear Clinton supporters blame Obama for what Hillary said. She could not bring herself to say I’m sorry, or her usual I mispoke line. Does Hillary ever apologize? Instead she blames others or takes on the victim role when she is caught. This explains why she can’t get the educated White vote or even college students. Both of these groups can see through the lies and manipulation. Hillary would rather see the Democratic party lose in November than admit she messed up,lost and couldn’t find it within herself to unite and to ensure that the Dems will win in November. She would rather burn down the village then see anyone enter it without her.
She has turned the dream ticket into a nightmare!

Tom In CA,
I wish she will not be his VP.
I wish she will be the nominee.

Why would the Obama camp email Olberman’s “comments” to all reporters if they didn’t want to inflame the topic. Remember, Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea have been threatened many times. Obama has just begun this tour. He didn’t mind mentioning Martin Luther King’s assination, why is it so wrong to mention Bob Kennidy’s, or the threats that most of the get when running. That’s the risk they take. But, why is it wrong to bring up the subject. Hillary and Bill know more about that subject than any one. This Keith Olberman should be fired from MNNBC. He is a sexist and his comments are cruel to people, especial the comment he had about Clinton.

As I listen to the pundits, I get so angry. Last night after reading the comments that Keith Olberman made, I was unable to sleep since these pundits can spew out these terrible comments and then have the nerve to ask the candidates to make amends if they happen to step off the path. Keith Olberman and Chris Mathews are terrible with their sexist manner. “When Obama speaks, they say, it makes tingles go up my leg.? What does that mean. Hillary speaks beautifully and intelligently without having to stop at every phrase to figure out what she is saying. She is one smart lady and she has our vote. If she isn’t the candidate or on the ticket the demorats are making a huge mistake. Johnson helped Kennedy and thank God for him being their when Kennedy was killed.

In all of my years of participating in primaries and elections I have never seen anything this before. The Clinton supporters are so angry that they would rather a Republican win than their own party. There is something else going on here that noboday wants to talk about becuase there are always losers in the primary process but never with the vitrol displayed in this primary.

Obama’s campaign has class and is taking the high road again. I respect him and his team is awesome. OBAMA 2008.

Obama and his entire campaign need to get over it. This is just another example of how BO can get away with making a million misstatements but Senator Clinton is not given the same type of pass. It’s pathetic.

You Clinton supportors who say you will vote for McCain if Obama gets the nomination; That just goes to show that your party is a sham and unity means nothing to you….only that you get your own way. Hey Nancy P..hear me? Go ahead, vote for McCain. we will continue the war and the same policies as Bush….but with a John McCain mandate. You will have accomplished what then????….oh, you will have” showed that uppity black man he caint’ never be president”. Either way…thank God, Hillary will not be in the OVAL office.

RD-states white working class people will be like tthe Reagan Democrats of old and not vote for man whose mother was a single parent and on food stamps for a time-no she will vote for McCain-someone living off his wife’s $100 million and never worked a regular job in his life–and why because Obama is Black and uppidity. Well RD when you get tired of paying $7.00 for gas (4 years of MCcain )- and here about someone one you actually really know who child gets killed in Iraq, make sure you don’t tell anyone who YOU VOTED FOR.

We don’t WANT Hillary on the ticket-she has already asked someone to assasinate him-she needs to be arrested. Hillary needs to be somewhere but definitely not on the ticket. She needs s staight jacket and a padded cell.

Dear Martha Atherton,
Perhaps Hillary should have just stayed home and baked cookies, instead of getting her law degree and then co-founding the Children’s Defense Fund.
Ambition: Bad if you’re an American woman.
